(00:15):
Welcome. We are your hosts,Lisa and Jill. I would not recommend
this podcast for any child under theage of twelve. Dare to be scared
with stories of superstitions, legends, haunts and terrors. Explore the weird,
the wild, the dark and unnaturalwith us. We hope you have fun
(00:38):
and don't fault asleep. Is itscary in there? Dan? What's in
there? Adam Marca Amy? Hey, why did you just do that?
(01:03):
Because I wanted to welcome back.Welcome. Someone fell off the wagon,
so I know it's sixth grade camp. Lisa had tons of fun because I
got her a duffel bag that hadtons of pranks in it, and she
played pranks on her friends. Soto pay tribute to us falling off the
(01:23):
wagon, because you went to sixthgrade camp, I'm going to tell you
a story about camp. But firstI wanted to ask what was your favorite
thing about camp or like camping ingeneral, anything, because I have a
favorite thing about camping. I thinkmy favorite thing is probably just being there,
like the nature. That's cool?Is he What do you like about
(01:44):
camping? She squeaked. Um,I like to like spend time with family
and like go for hikes and makes'mores at the camp fire. You guys
are both wrong. My favorite thingis the way my butter smells the day
after the camp fire. I don'tknow what it is. You're not wrong,
No, it's just a weird thingfor me. It's like just the
(02:07):
smell, like you're like you goto like throw your sweater on and it
just smells like the camp fire andthe smoke, and it's like nostalgic.
It reminds you of, like,I don't know, the fun night you
had. I love it. Ilike that. I love the smell of
fire. But we're not here totalk about snugly fun time. We're here
to creep people out. So inlight of camping fun, did you know
(02:30):
that summer camps have actually had avery rich history of having death actually happened
at them. Wow? Mmm?But also camping in general can be very
dangerous. In nineteen fifty nine, there were some hikers, and I think
(02:50):
you've actually heard about them, Lisa. They were found scattered around their campsite
up on like it's called diet lovepast. Some pieces were frozen, they
were torn apart. One of themwas just missing eyes. Another one was
missing a tongue, and even anotherwas just missing the eyebrows, and it's
(03:10):
just so weird. Found they werejust found later on with their bodies scattered
all around the campsite and pieces ofthem everywhere and torn off their bodies,
and nobody still to this day hasever figured out what has happened. Some
people even think that it was likea military conspiracy theory, but that's for
more grown up adult conversation on adifferent podcast. Anyways, do you guys
(03:35):
know who Jason is? Yeah?Who's Jason? He comes on Friday thirteenth,
that's all. You know? Whatdo you know is he? I
know, like he stars in alot of movies, but like I don't
know much about him, Like hekills people, but but like that's it.
So I heard this in a movieonce that I think it was in
(03:59):
Scream or something, that the guywas saying that the mom was the killer
first in the first movie and thatJuson wasn't even there until like the second.
So Jason is a camp killer ata camp called Crystal Lake. Crystal
Lake is a real camp and therewas a real body found in the woods
(04:24):
there. What that movie is basedon a real story that being said,
are you ready for a story?Yeah? Yeah, and it's sad that
I've never seen a movie. WhenSonny Jamison saw his lawyer walk in,
(04:46):
he was more than relieved. Thesweat on his palms was starting to sting,
and the cuts from the branches andthe twigs were still open and bleeding.
The dirt on his face was nowmixed with his salty warm tears,
and he was freezing. His palmswere still wet, his shirt mostly dry
but still muddy, and he couldtaste the copper in his mouth from the
blood where his tooth was knocked out, and he was just wiggling his tongue
(05:11):
along the gums. There was nothingelse he could do, just sitting there,
nervous, not wanting to tell hisstory. Mister Jamieson, his lawyer
started, you haven't said anything withoutme present. It was more of a
statement, to be sure, ratherthan a question. But everyone always knows
to ask for a lawyer when thingsget this bad. I haven't good.
(05:38):
I've had the cameras turned off andI'll be recording the statement for my own
notes, and I need you totell me what happened so I can get
you out of here. Do youunderstand, Sonny. Sonny nodded. I
need you to speak out. Youcan't just not. I need it to
be very clear that you understand this. Yes, sir, yes, sir,
(05:59):
I stand, Sonny said, afterhe stumbled again and had to clear
his throat. He's just he's neverbeen this nervous in his life, so
it was hard to even get thosewords out. Why don't you tell me
in your own words, what happenedwhen you arrived at camp. Did you
notice anything amiss? Did you feelstrange? Was anything with you abnormal?
(06:23):
No, Sonny said, showing theanger and frustration and panic in his voice.
I wasn't alone. I wasn't alone. I told everyone I wasn't alone.
And he started to sob again, just repeating himself. Okay, okay,
calm down, I'm here for you. I can only help you if
you tell me what happened. Sobreathe deep again. Just tell me.
(06:45):
When you arrived at camp, didyou go to your bunks to unpack?
We didn't unpack. We just droppedour stuff off and then went to the
mess hall for lunch. Nothing waswrong, then it was fine. We
unpacked after lunch. Then we wenton a hike. The hike, Sonny
turned his head to the side.A blank glaze slowly rippled down his face,
(07:09):
from his eyes to his lips, and he didn't speak for over a
minute. Thank you, Sonny,Can I get you some water? His
break in the silence brought Sonny's gazeback to the room. He was present
again and picked up where he hadleft off, as if there was no
lapse in time. When we wenton the hike, it was further up
(07:30):
than I had expected. They toldus we were only going for a mile,
and I didn't really trust the campcounselors, but I thought, why
not, let's keep going. Itseemed strange in the beginning. You know,
they were strange. It wasn't me. I didn't do anything. And
again Sonny stopped and he couldn't speakand just took a minute. Sonny,
(07:55):
are you going to need some timewith this? Mister Brenner asked again.
I'm sorry. I'm sorry. Itjust I don't think anyone's going to believe
me. I don't think anyone's goingto believe what happened. I didn't do
anything. It's not my fault.I didn't do anything. Look, Sonny,
I know we haven't had time,we haven't had the proper introduction.
(08:18):
Let me just start by saying,Hi, my name is Alex Brunner.
I'm your lawyer. I'm here tohelp you. I am not here for
them. I can't help you unlessyou tell me exactly what happened when you
went out there. I will doeverything I can to protect you and get
you out of this mess, aslong as you can tell me. Sonny
(08:39):
got sad. He actually had aface that Alex had never seen on anyone
before. It wasn't just sadness,it was confusion and anger and so much
just welled up into one. Andthen when Sonny spoke, he looked directly
at Alex in his eyes, andAlex got a feeling of terror that just
struck through him like lightning. Itmade the hair on his arms stand up,
(09:03):
and Sonny said, I'll tell you, but you can't help me.
Another minute went by where Sonny wasjust quiet, and Alex sat there in
the quietness with him, just waitingfor when he was ready, and what
he heard only made him walk outthe room without ever being able to help
Sonny. We hiked up to awell. The counselors told us that It
(09:28):
was a wishing well, and theygave us all rocks from around the area.
They were white rocks, and theysaid, all you do is throw
a rock into the well, makea wish, and we'll head back down
the mountain. So we did justthat and it was fun. Everything was
fine. We played around, wethrew some stuff around. But on the
(09:50):
way back down it started to getdark and we started to hear things.
We heard rustling, we heard howling, and then all of a sudden,
they were rocks being thrown at us, these same white rocks, These stones
were coming out of the trees, out of the air. We we didn't
even know what was happening. Wewere getting pelted by them. We we
(10:13):
knew we had to take cover, and that was it. Alex interjected to
ask Sonny how many people were onthe hike. There were, There were
six of us before she came.Who do you mean she the woman in
bloody clothes, Sonny said, Andthis woman in bloody clothes, she wasn't
there when you arrived to the camp. She was only on the hike.
(10:33):
Yes, she showed up on thehike. We went to the well,
we came back down, rocks startedcoming out of everywhere. We were hearing
things, and then we saw her. We saw her and we just started
running. We were running and wedidn't even know where. We were confused,
and it wasn't toward the camp, and that's how we ended up in
(10:54):
the cabin. But the whole timeshe was behind us, she was just
there and we didn't hear her running. We would stop when we would check,
and it seemed like it took forever. And I know, I know
it sounds crazy, and I knowyou don't want to believe me, but
this woman was just there. Andthe weirder thing about it was that the
camp counselors were just watching us scramble, like they ran with us. They
(11:18):
stayed with us, but they didn'tseem interested in finding a solution or getting
back to the camp. They werejust kind of there. Okay, Sonny,
So these camp counselors, where didthey come from? Were they there
when you arrived at the camp?Yes, I said they were there.
We went and we ate and weleft with the counselors. Sonny. There
(11:39):
were no counselors assigned to the camp. This was just a camp experiment where
you all were supposed to go therespend a week and then leave to see
how you would all do in yourown social environment together. There were no
camp counselors, Sonny. There werecamp counsel I'm telling you they were there.
(12:01):
We were not alone. It wasn'tjust us, Sonny, all of
you. You all got sent therefor the same reason. All boys between
the ages of eighteen and twenty onewho don't have homes go to this camp,
do the experiment. They stay together, and then they go on to
the next part of the program sothat you can then get jobs, and
(12:22):
then we pay you. That's howthe program works. Sonny freaked out.
He jumped up so fast that thechair actually slid back, hit the wall,
slammed into it, and he startedyelling, Hey, hey, somebody,
get me out of here, Getme out of here. He's one
of them. I need out ofhere, I need help. I need
(12:43):
a different lawyer, somebody, andhe was freaking out. All of a
sudden, two police officers burst intothe room. The lawyer just picked up
his briefcase walked out while the officershad to subdue Sonny and calm him down.
The whole time, he just keptscreaming and the door closed outside the
lawyer had a discussion with one ofthe officers, who then came back into
(13:07):
the room, sedated Sonny with aneedle, and took him to a holding
cell. So far, we knowthat Sonny has been to a camp.
They are saying he did something,he's being held for it, and the
lawyer is kind of suspicious. Whatdo you guys think is going on?
I think that they're trying to accuseSonny of something he didn't do so the
(13:33):
camp could keep going with their program. That yeah, that's a good theory.
I was just like, I don'tknow, but I really love this
already. I'm just I don't wantto see where it goes. What do
you think the program is? Maybelike somewhere were the trick teens that don't
have homes and like just makes themdo things and then gets blamed for it.
(13:54):
Well, here we go. Therewas a boy named Justin waking up
confused at the well on the samemorning that Sonny was being held down at
the local police department. Justin didn'tremember how he got to the well,
but he remembered everything that happened atcamp the night before. You see,
(14:15):
he just knew that his head waspounding and he wanted to go home.
It was the weirdest, creepiest timehe had ever had, and he hoped
that it was well worth the money. He walked down the path from the
well to the camp, where therewas a car waiting for him. The
person didn't say anything, thank god, because he had had way too hard
(14:39):
of a night and he didn't wantto have a discussion, so as he
got in the back seat, hejust relaxed exactly as promised. The car
took him to the fanciest hotel inthe area. He was handed an envelope
full of cash, which he hadto open and check it and there it
was probably the biggest Manila envelope thathe had ever seen in his life.
(15:03):
I mean, like, how doyou pack five thousand dollars into this small
envelope? Five thousand Wait a minute, there's more than that, ten twenty
thirty fifty fifty thousand dollars. Hecounted. He couldn't believe it. He
(15:26):
was given fifty thousand dollars for spendingone night at a camp one night.
Everyone else had to be there fora week, and he only had to
be there for one night. Andall he has to do is go back
and write down what happened and mailit in. How easy was this going
(15:46):
to be? Well? Best dayof his life, he thought, Sonny's
in jail, lawyers being weird,Justin's getting special treatment now Corey spelling and
woke up in the morning just completelyon fire. She was ready to hit
that newsroom and get after it,and she did. She walked into work
(16:11):
fresh, and she had been singingon her way to work, like totally
jazz. And there was a redenvelope on her desk. Was this what
she had been waiting for? Shewas told she was going to get a
big story, a story that wouldchange her life. All she had to
do was wait and make sure thatshe published it, and it would come
on this day. And here itwas. It was the envelope. Corey's
(16:37):
fingers grazed the envelope and she slowlyslid them along it, feeling its softness,
knowing what's inside of it would changeher life. This meant everything to
her. She picked it up andshe smelled it. It was so weird.
She knew there was nothing in it, but to her, it was
like imagining the smell of money, imagining the smell of her life changing She
(17:00):
just couldn't wait to get out ofthis town, and this was going to
be it. This was what shewas promised. But what did it say?
She slowly opened it, she didn'twant to do it too fast,
and she was like excited and nervous. It was not a very thick envelope,
(17:22):
So how could it change her life? I mean, so many emotions
went through her as she was openingit, And when she reached inside and
pulled out the only three sheets ofpaper that it held, she had the
most captivating next few minutes that shewould ever have for the rest of her
(17:45):
life. This was a story unlikeany other. To whom this may concern.
I'm a citizen that was contacted lateon such and such evening a month
ago. I was told to showup at camp to give an observation and
then write you this letter with thepromise that you would publish it. When
(18:07):
I showed up at camp, therewere six individuals. None of them knew
that I was there observing. Theyhad just finished having their lunch. It
seemed as right after the meal theystarted to hallucinate. They thought they were
talking to individuals that were convincing themto come on a hike. I followed
them. They just kept walking untilthey came to a well where they were
(18:32):
mumbling and throwing different things that theyfound on the ground into it. Then
they started to hike some more. They started thinking that things were falling on
them and hitting them and hurting them, And then they started running to a
nearby cabin and they hid inside.I didn't get to see much of what
(18:52):
was inside because the windows were closedshortly after they went in. What I
did see was that one of themseemed to be hallucinating more than the others.
He seemed to be in charge. He was angry. He was pushing
them around. He was asking themwhy they couldn't see the woman, the
woman in bloody clothes. He keptinsisting that she was there, and he
(19:17):
was pointing. And then I'm notsure if he saw me, But that
is when he closed the curtains, and it didn't get silent. It was
what I heard, not what Isaw. I heard screaming, moaning,
people running up and downstairs. Iactually did hear a woman, even though
(19:40):
I never saw a woman in thecabin. To begin with, the cabin
was abandoned. It was hard forthem to get in. They couldn't find
a key, and when I waspeeking in the windows, it looked like
there was no up to date furniture. When I could hear the woman,
all I could hear was dream alittle dream. That's all she would say,
(20:02):
over and over. Dream, alittle dream, dream, a little
dream, dream, a little dream. She just kept saying it, and
then it would stop. These grownmen were going crazy in there. You
could hear them just telling her tostop. I'm not sure at this point
if they were actually hallucinating, becauseI could hear her. At one point,
I heard someone yelling, Sonny, leave me alone, Sonny, leave
(20:26):
me alone. And then this person, which I'm assuming was Sonny, kept
saying, stop it, stop it. Don't do that. You don't know
what you're doing. And then therewas a loud crack. I'm not sure
what it was, but after thatthe person got quiet, and Sonny just
started freaking out. Oh my god, oh my god. That's all I
(20:48):
heard was, oh my god.Corey wasn't sure what she was reading or
where this was going, but shewas definitely interested. And even though she
wasn't sure how this was going tochange her life, it was still interesting
enough to where she knew she wasdefinitely going to publish it. Corey kept
on reading. The next thing Iheard had a motor and I'm pretty sure
(21:11):
it sounded like a chainsaw, andthe person Sonny, Well, I think
it was sunny because over the chainsawit was hard to hear anything. All
I could hear was you don't knowwhat you're doing. You don't know what
you're doing, and I thought thatit was the same guy saying it,
But also at the same time Icould hear dream a little dream, Dream,
(21:33):
a little dream, Dream, alittle dream, and it was like
a mix of Sonny's voice saying youdon't know what you're doing at the same
time of this woman's voice saying dreama little dream. It sounded like the
two were talking together. Well, needless to say the chainsaw, it was
loud and all I could hear wasyelling and screaming and the words no and
(22:00):
stop until there was silence, completesilence. I wanted to run, I
wanted to leave, but I couldn'tbecause the only thing else I could hear
was Sonny's voice and a weird creakingnoise as if he was rocking in a
chair. He said it was thewoman in bloody clothes. I wasn't dreaming.
(22:22):
It was the woman in bloody clothes. I wasn't dreaming, he repeated
himself, over and over and over, and I couldn't take it anymore,
so I left and anonymously called thepolice. I don't want anyone to know
who I am, but please,if you're reading this, someone needs to
(22:47):
know what happened out there in thewoods that night. At the same time
Corey was finishing up reading the letter, Alex Bruner was stepping into his lab.
His phone rang and he answered it, Hello, mister Brenner. Are
we sure that everything is handled withSonny? Yes? And how do you
know because I had them give theinjection myself, and you're sure he won't
(23:11):
remember. Yes, I'm confident hewon't remember. And do you have the
next group ready? Yes? Thenext group is ready. Okay, we
have already put the subject in thewoods and she's waiting in the cabin.
The phone clicked and there was justdial tone. Okay, what do we
(23:33):
think of this story? Ladies? What do you think happened? I thought
that it was going to be Sonnythat killed everyone, but I'm not sure
anymore because the girl in the cabinmight have done it too. At first,
I thought the Sonny was like notlike haucin any anything. I thought
(23:56):
he was actually telling the truth.I didn't. I don't know. I
thought he didn't do it, Andnow I'm also not sure. Yeah was
it a good story? Yeah?Yeah? Yeah? Did you like joining
us for that one? Is?It was amazing? I can't wait for
the next one. Oh, shewants to come back, Lacy. Did
(24:18):
you like having her here for it? Yeah? All right, we'll have
to have you here again for sure. We're glad to be back. I'm
so sorry it took us so long. And I actually have another chilling story
right around the corner that I've beenwriting for somebody special, and I think
the lesson will take from it ishow we need to make sure there's nothing
(24:44):
creepy in the piles of things youkeep in your room. Sometimes rooms get
