Welcome to the Screen, The Screenor College Basketball Podcast with your hosts,
Mike Randall and Gus Kearns. Welcomein listeners to the Screen The Screen or
College Basketball podcast, where we're alwaystalking everything college hoops. You could have
been anywhere else in the dial, but you chose to be here with us,
Mike and Gus and Mike, Idon't know if you noticed, the
calendar has flipped to the best monthof the year. We're in March,

(00:40):
and we're excited that the calendar hasflipped. I think this is the perfect
time to talk to any listener outthere, whether it be human or dog,
about college basketball. Mike level ofexcitement currently positive Google for everything that's
going on. Absolutely love it,Conference tournament times, can't stop writing,
can't stop tweeting, can't stop supportingyou on Raven Sports. It's just non

(01:03):
stop fun. And like we willsleep literally in broad Steam. We will
sleep in May, and we maynot even sleep then because we have the
NBA going on. But it's beenfantastic, great, Yeah, it's been
unbelievable thus far. You know,we get to some of the buzzer beaters
that started off March a little bitlater, we have a select few that
we'd like to go over and highlight. But Mike, one of the things
over the weekend, we're all thesetop teams losing, and of course the

(01:26):
number one team in the country,Gonzaga gets knocked off by Saint Mary's on
the road. And all of thosetop teams did lose on the road,
and I think a few of themwere just underdogs, flat out underdogs,
even though they were, you know, ranked within the top seven of our
sport. Mike, let's let's focuson Gonzaga and why do you not hate

(01:47):
the Zags currently? Gus You wouldthink on social media that if anyone says
anything negative about Gonzaga like that isa crime that is punishable by being put
in shackles in the middle of thetown. Guys, that's a concerning loss.
It doesn't mean Mark Few is ina Hall of Famer. It doesn't

(02:10):
mean that Gonzaga isn't the best teamin college basketball. It doesn't mean that
they can't win a national title. It means that the prism through which we
look at Gonzaga is whether they're winninga national title. That's the way Mark
Few is looking at it. That'sthe way the fans are looking at it.
If they make an e leade eight, it means nothing. It means

(02:32):
nothing. But guys, they're atthe level of Kansas Kentucky and that's a
credit to them. But you cannotdismiss when they go and get pretty consistently
controlled by an under athletic Saint Mary'steam. I know it's very well coached.
I know, okay, Tommy Kouziand his fourteen points, but it

(02:55):
was fourteen big points. I know, okay, where it's the year and
that's great, and we're excited aboutMatthias Toss. That's fine. That's concerning
because it was the end of theyear. It was the end of an
undefeated regular season, and it wastheir rival. It wasn't a sleepy spot

(03:16):
at Pepperdine in January. So it'sconcerning and it bothers me. If you're
gonna pick Gonzaga, I think it'sconcerning. We can't just dismiss every loss
that Gonzaga has and say, oh, well it's Gonzaga. You would think
what I got on Twitter, obviousGonzaga hater. I'm sorry, guys,

(03:38):
So we can only criticize them ifthey lose to Shalmanad. Is that is
that fair? Or are we gonnasay, well, you know, Shalmanad's
tough at home. I can't takeit. The Gonzaga truthers back off.
It was Matthias Toss. You couldn'tscore, you couldn't hit a three.
And Tommy Kozy is not nearly asgood as the guards you're gonna see from
Kentucky. And if you want toin a national title, I just think,

(04:00):
Gus, it raised my eyebrow. That's it. I think that's fair.
It's very fair. I love theway you laid that out. Jesus,
can we also settle down with theNebhard is the best point guard in
college. I don't know where thatcame from. I look, I feel

(04:21):
like I am usually the Gunzaga apologiston the podcast reasonable part, but that
should never have been like a talkingpoint or a piece of conversation. I
mean that that's kind of ridiculous.Every single one of his shots is in,
you know, in territory. He'shad too many five four sixteen type

(04:46):
games, too many, and hehas a little too much ownership on the
offense on that end, and Ithink that's where they miss kiss Burd who
would take some of those shots awayfrom you know, whoever's running the point,
whether it be neb Hard or Sugs, they don't have that true wing
and that's I think that's where Boldencomes is going to come in and play
a big role. I think, oddly enough, he might be the most

(05:06):
important backcourt piece to this whole thing, networking, run it up and down.
But Bolden's gonna stretch the floor andhe's gonna make those tough shots that
the heart's not making right now.And yeah, I'm sorry, no,
no, no, I was justgonna finish off with Saint Mary's. I
think you were kind by saying underathletic and the thing that always is the

(05:28):
bugaboo for the for the Zags iswhen they do go up against a athletic
or physical team. That's all I'msaying, right, because they still might
win a national title. Then I'llget the lol tweets. It's fine,
guys, it's it's disturbing to metonight that Kansas didn't blow the doors off
TCU at home with the big twelveregular season on the line. That's concerning.

(05:51):
Is that okay to say? Isthat fine? Or because they didn't
have Matthias toss inside. Therefore it'snot exacting. I can't can't take it
anymore. Jeez, it'scus I'm complimentingthem by looking at them through the prism
all of the elite teams in college. Rest of the blue bloods, right

(06:13):
right, right, not the notthe new bloods. They're doing great work
out there at West of course, but no, the blue bloods. And
I think, yeah, you haveto include them in that conversation over the
past five years, not just thisyear like that. That's that's that's a
talking point, and that's I thinkwhat the program expects. I think what
the coaching staff expects. I thinkwhen people enroll there, you know,

(06:34):
student athletes enroller, that's what theyexpect. They expect to have a chance
at a national title. And thisyear's no different, right, I'm not
there's a difference, gus if itself doesn't win it or Calipowery doesn't win
it. When you go to thebarber shop, remember Jerry Tipton tell us
about this. You go to thebarber shop, they're saying, oh,
it's a disappointing year. No onein Gonzaga will say it's a disappointing year.

(06:58):
But I do think if we werein the inner sanctum with Mark few
he wants to win a title. Is that fair? So can we not
examine the last game of the regularseason against the arch rival in a conference
GUS that doesn't have the normal levelof competition as some of the larger conferences,
and say, hmm, Kozy didn'thave thirty Uh, it wasn't like

(07:24):
a fluky loss. It was theycouldn't solve the slowdown. Like that's all
I'm saying, Like, we cannotcriticize anyone anymore. We can't. I
just can't take it anymore. Iloved Gonzaga. It's fantastic, God forbid.
It's a questionable loss, that's it. And and you know you just
suppose that against the other top teamslosing as well and bringing up those exact

(07:48):
same questions also concerning yes, andwe can we can dissect each one of
those, but I think this thumbnailsketch for the Zags can speak to each
one of those other programs, whetherit be your Kansas or your Kentucky that
lost this past weekend as well, and they've run into a little trouble.
Yeah, it's and all of thoseteams are included in the conversation of I

(08:13):
think that team is on my shortlist to win a national title this year.
Can't make fun of somebody's mother, and you can't criticize Gonzaga on social
nat. I agree with the motherpart. I think I think we can
still, you know, poke holesat some of the things that we're concerned
about with Kenzag. Imagine if Iwere at a point in life now where

(08:35):
it's controversial, say, you know, Gonzaga only may make the Elite eight
this year, that's blasphemy. That'swhat we're gonna call a pot tonight,
Gonzaga blasphemy perfect and congratulations on attainingthat level that we could be like,
you know what, look the Eliteeight. I'm not sure. I don't

(08:56):
know if that's going to be viewedas this. Okay, we're in a
good spot. Everybody's in a goodspot. Everybody needs to settle down.
And the only people that hate memore than Gonzaga fans are Villanova fans,
because, folks, that is aterrible win over Providence at home with no
aldorm. But we can get intothat a little later. We we we
can. We can pick holes ineverything here, right all right, so

(09:18):
Mike, let's get down to youknow, what we really love and where
you know, we often put oureyes and we don't just pay attention to,
you know, the blue bloods thatwe talked about before, the top
six teams that drop. We dopay attention to all the other conferences that
are sprinkled around the nation and insideour great sport of college basketball. And
to just preface this, this iswhat makes our sport great. Each team

(09:43):
in the country has four opportunities duringthe season to like be a new to
like just peel off, you know, exfoliate or molt or whatever the turn
you want to exfoliate. Excellent useof exfolia. Thank you. They can
just be they can look at itwith fresh eyes. When everybody starts,

(10:05):
they have their non conference part ofthe schedule where they could maybe get an
upset win or have that signature winor make some noise or whatever the cases
they're trying to accomplish. Right,it's a if it's Texas Southern, you're
just trying to accumulate, buy gamesand take losses and then go win the
conference later whatever the goal is.Then once conference play starts, it's a

(10:28):
new again. You have that thatthat renewed energy. Okay, hey,
let's get it right in conference. Then you have the conference tournament that we're
in right now, and then youhave the Big Dance. So you have
multiple opportunities throughout the season to reallyfind that signature, whether it be performance,
whether it be win or maybe evenmagical run, whether it be in

(10:52):
your conference tournament or in March. And we're in it right now again,
and some of these smaller conferences areexperiencing that rebirth right now, so everybody
is looking at it with a freshpair of eyes. Mike, where we're
gonna go first, Gus, I'dlike to talk about the Big South,
Okay, because all that happened inthe Big South was the following on Wednesday,

(11:15):
Number eight Radford verse number nine,North Carolina ant North Carolina A and
T upsets seven point win in overtime. Number five unc Asheville verse number twelve,
Charleston Southern Number twelve, Charleston Southernsecond upset wins seventy nine, seventy
eight. Gus, that's a onepoint win, one point game, right,
okay. Next number seven, highpoint verse number ten Hampton number seven

(11:37):
high point wins. But in overtime. That's two overtime games and one one
point game. And finally number sixCampbell and the Blue Hose Near and dear
to my heart, Number eleven Presbyterian. That game, Gus was won by
the favorite in double overtime. Solet's recap overtime, overtime, double overtime,
one point win. I need acigarette. Thank you Big. That's

(12:00):
all we're saying is just say thankyou Big, Saal. It's phenomenal.
Like who do we like out ofthat coming forward? I mean, obviously
Longwood has to be considered the favoritethere. Winthrope is always a threat,
and of course the showdown between Campbelland Gardner Webb is going to be interesting
as well. But if we're leaningone way, obviously we're gonna go along
with that trio of guards, andwe don't want to ignore Winthrope. I
think Winthrope has the pedigree if nothingelse. But Mike, where do you

(12:26):
want to dive into next? TheBig South just got us off to a
tremendous start. And where do weneed to pay attention to next? I
think we should go to the MissouriValley because, after all, gust it
is arch madness now tonight, IllinoisState beat Indiana State. They are moving
on because they are not beating NorthernIowa. I just want it, you
know, ahead of time. Iactually have the Almanact for back to the

(12:48):
Future. That is not going tobe a window. However, that game
is on Friday Tomorrow at noon.Valparaiso is defeating Evansville, so it looks
like they're going to slide in againstMissouri State. A couple thoughts here and
then tell me I'm an idiot.I love Northern i Are where they're not
getting upset tomorrow. Loyola versus Bradley, Absolutely love Bradley. I always have
problems when a great head coach leavesMichigan tonight. I always have trouble when

(13:13):
you lose a great head coach.I think there's a bit of an adjustment
period. Loyola still has a tonof seniors. Loyola is still solid.
They've also looked vulnerable this year andthey've had issues. Loyola may win this
game, whatever the spread is goingto be. I'm going to take Bradley.
I'm telling you right now. Bradleyhas been an issue all year,
battling these big schools. Missouri StateIsaiah Mosley Pole against Valpo. That's a

(13:37):
tough one for me because I reallydo like teams that play in from the
playing game, except it's Northern Iowa. So gosh, guys, I would
advise like a first half Valpo lineif you can get it there, maybe
a plus four in the first halfto keep it close and in the bottom
Drake for Selling Illinois. I amgoing to pick against Drake at some point.
I just don't know if it's gonnabe Southern Illinois. So my early

(13:58):
thoughts love Bradley and points. NorthernIowa, no problem, Valpo first half
against Missouri State, Drake Southern Illinois. I'll probably hate the points, but
I think Drake will advance. ButDrake is not getting to the finals here.
That's not happening. Okay. Sowhat if I tell you that Loyal
Chicago is favored currently by six isoh, right now, I'm taking right

(14:18):
now in the action app absolutely I'mtaking, Okay. And then what if
I told you Drake is favored bythree and a half. Yeah, that's
that's you have to think about that, don't you. Yeah, I'm taking
it right now. I was takingI'm taking both underdogs That's just what I'm
doing because I look, I thinkmy overall view here is I love Missouri
State here as much as you mightlove UM Northern Iowa. I'm on the

(14:41):
Missouri State Bears wagon. I thinkthat, you know, Gauge prim is
gonna put up big numbers in thepost. And you already mentioned Mosley.
He's unbelievably talented and plays at hisown pace. Conrect the game. Yep.
Yeah. And one of the thingsthat we talked about with UM coach
Chris from CBS is like those gamewreckers or even those tournament wreckers, and

(15:05):
I wouldn't be surprised to see Mosleygo off for another thirty spot here somewhere
on CBS Sports Network. So Ireally like them. But I'm down with
the Bradley loyalist Chicago. Like Squeezeplay there, I think that I think
that might have some value, ButI don't know if I can jump on
the Valpo first half against Missouri State. I think, yes, like tournament

(15:28):
setting, like people are gonna befired up, Valpo is gonna be fired
up, But I think that one'shard for me to get behind. And
I have to tell you, Ithink that Drake still has something going here,
so I might that that three anda half looks like just enough for
me. Oh man, I'm excitedthat we're just talking about the valley.
All right, thank you for that. Now, the theory took Bradley Cluff

(15:48):
six. I just took it.So the five it opened at five and
a half went to six. SoI'm debating that I could hit it again
to Mark because it could go up. It could continue going up. But
just keep in mind, guys,Bradley this verst year, this year versus
Loyal Chicago lost in overtime away onJanuary eighth. Loyola was rolling and then
blasted Loyola, well blasted one byseven, um on Wednesday. So they've

(16:10):
played very well against Loyola, andno problem there. Let's say Drake this
year. Let's say Drake against SouthernIllinois. There are two games, um,
Drake, one by one away andthen they won by two at home.
Okay, I think you all right, you're onto something there, Okay,
okay, And that's a little wagerof one unit and it's good.

(16:34):
Okay, thank you. I likethe I like the live like, you
know, confirming of your bet likeon the podcast three and a half.
Well, well, Wendell Carter Juniorgoes under, it's a good day,
okay, But so we got somemoney to play with anyway, Um,
yeah, I'm with you. Ithink Terry Roberts from Bradley will keep that
interesting for sure. All right, where we're gonna head two next? Now

(16:56):
that we dipped into the valley, what's what's in? What's the next stop?
Gus? How about we hit thehorizon? Okay, so the horizon
bracket updated as we speak. Okay, okay, So in the horizon we
lost our dearly beloved Oakland early on? Is that true? They lost tonight?
You know, I didn't like them, Gus. I wanted them in

(17:18):
my heart. My heart said yes, my head said no, because that
that that late season slide just reallyit was a struggle. There was a
struggle in it, and it reallyhurt them. Yep. Like we talked
about on the last podcast that unfortunately, that's been one of the tendencies with
that, with that Oakland squad,is that they get off to these you
know, decent starts, especially inconference, might even garner like an impressive

(17:41):
win or performance along the way inthe non con and then that you know,
just slowly kind of drips away, like the leak that you can't fix.
And it obviously didn't get fixed againstRight State in the quarterfinals, that's
for sure. Yeah, and tonightwe had a big win for Northern Kentucky
because I actually said they had losttwice to Detroit this year, so I

(18:06):
thought that was a little frisky. But in the first half they pretty much
were locked in to Davis and hereally wasn't able to get things going.
I will tell you this, NorthernKentucky is the tough out in this conference.
I get it. Darren Horne, veteran coach. The whole thing.
Perdue Fort Wayne is the upstart.John Kaufman's had them here for two years.

(18:30):
They lost to Northern Kentucky fifty nineforty nine this year away. I
like Perdue Fort Wayne in this game. I think a Northern at Kentucky.
If you look at their metrics, they are not great, okay, and
they will be favored by two inthis game. It looks like next one
is on Monday, so we havea while. I really like Perdue Fort

(18:51):
Wayne. They did not have greatodds because they're Perdue Fort Wayne. Despite
being the number two seed, Ithink they were around plus five fifty something
like that, So a lot ofpeople will back the Norse here. I'm
gonna take Purdue Fort Wayne. Icouldn't believe their number, and I kind
of like him in this spot. They're gonna have to deal with Warwick.
Work's gone Banana is the last coupleof games and has just kind of been

(19:15):
that tournament wrecker type player for NorthernKentucky. And he's I don't know,
maybe he's that player that's going tokind of take things over. His last
couple of games. He put uptwenty three, twenty two, thirty and
twenty seven. Look out, He'sgoing to be a handful of guard.
He doesn't necessarily need the three pointer, but guess what, he can nail

(19:36):
a bunch of them in a hurryand make you worry. So I like
Warwick. I'm always a player guy. You're you definitely look at the metrics.
So if you're gonna, you know, go one way or the other.
If you're a player person, maybeyou look at Northern Kentucky. But
if you're the metric person, maybeyou go with Mike and take a Purdue
of Fort Wayne. I would loveCleveland State to be Right State in the
other side, because Right State actuallydefeated Perdue Fort Wayne twice this year,

(20:03):
fairly comfortably. They dropped eighty sixand beat him away on December. I
know that's a light years away,so it's not comparable, and then in
late January they beat him at homeby twelve. The guys the it's hard
to beat a team three times inone year. That's been disproven. That
is actually statistically false if you lookat the numbers. But but I just

(20:25):
Right State has had some terrible stumblesunder Naggie in the horizon. They've lost
in the first round two years ina row, at one game and out
when they had love as well, and I think they were the number one
seed and lost in the first round. They had the player of the year
and had the number one seed.Yes, the only thing I can tell
you is I do not think ClevelandState is making it. I love what

(20:45):
they do. They're gritty, they'regutty, great game last year. I
just think the offense will stall.I do not will not be picking at
Cleveland State. That's the only thingI can tell you from this. And
I'm rooting for Perdue Fort Wayne.I like them, but The only thing
that would shock me is if ClevelandState won this a second consecutive year,
it would surprise me. They havegreat guards, they have great defense,

(21:06):
well coached. I just think theystruggle on offense too much. Agreed.
And if we're talking about offense,we can just go straight to Tanner Holden
the Right State kind of do everythingforward, slash guard. He's a threat
for a triple double anytime he stepson the floor. He's averaging almost twenty
points a game. And if wetake a look at three out of his
last four games, he's gone overtwenty three out of the last four.

(21:30):
Doesn't necessarily need the three point shotto be really efficient on offense, and
we'll do a little bit of everything. He'll board, He'll garner a ton
of steals with his length on thewing. So if you're gonna lean one
way a player wise, Tanner Holdenon Right State is definitely a guy to
look at. I've loved his gamefor a couple of years now excellent and

(21:52):
the last one I think we'll turnto a partner here. Can we talk
about the Ohio Valley? I thinkwe need to. All right, I
have some issues here, Okay, okay, great, let's get to them.
Okay, I am running two thesports book tomorrow to put a substantial
wager on Southeast Missouri State against MurrayState. The number will be well above

(22:21):
ten twelve thirteen. They played onFebruary twenty sixth at Southeast Missouri State and
Murray State one by two. Thisis a team that can score. They
can put points on the board.Southeast Missouri State under Brad Korn, they
are the number one three point shootingteam in the Ohio Valley and you're going

(22:41):
to get a massive number with them. I love them first half, I
love them full game, and Iwould not be surprised if they did pull
the upset on Murray State. Thatbeing said, if Murray State wins this
game, they are not losing inthe championship game. But I love the
RedHawks, who will get approximately negativegoogle amount of the money tomorrow against the

(23:04):
Murray State Racers, who I thinkus are in the tournament where they win
it or not. Oh, agreed, They're definitely in a tournament whether they
win or not. And yeah,I don't think there's anything wrong with a
little Semo love. I'm a littlebit down with that. And again,
if we're gonna go player here, and you're gonna look at South Eastern Missouri.
You know, Eric reads the guy. He shoots it nice from deep,

(23:27):
averages about sixteen points per game.In the game against Murray State,
he got held down. So maybeyou can use that as like motivation and
say like, hey, I wantto show out against the best team in
my conference, and here's another opportunityto do so. And we, like
you mentioned seventy to sixty eight, maybe if I make one more jumper,

(23:48):
maybe if I make one more bigplay, we win that game. And
that's coming off of two games wherehe was over twenty. Yeah, so
I think if you're gonna pay attentionto Read, maybe he might be the
different maker in this and keeping itclose and really playing with a little bit
of an edge and a little bitof chip on his shoulder. Yeah.
And it's not like, man, that they played tonight and they played on
the same court they're gonna play intomorrow, and it's it's certainly not like

(24:12):
in any way that Eric Reid wentfive of ten from three point range tonight.
I mean, it's certainly not that, and it's certainly not can I
get that number? I'm gonna getit right now. Let me go sports.
I love the We have another onehappening right here. This beautiful guy
all right, so that one Ilove. They're not blowing them out.
They go w Murst take win eightpoints, nine point whatever. Fine,

(24:32):
No, Seemo is live. LoveSimo is live. That would be the
secondary title of the podcast, forsure of this evening spreads that out,
Yeacus, I'm waiting on it ahead. Okay, well then if we just
look further down, obviously we wantto see that more Head Belmont rematch from
the title game a year ago whereJohnny Broom went absolutely bananas on Belmont.

(24:56):
So you want to see if Belmontcan right that wrong sort of speak,
and then and maybe you know, even out that score. And man,
when Belmont played Murray State, itwas a little bit laughable. I mean
when we had our guy stephen Onwho helped us out with the covering Belmont.
He was super disappointed about the Belmontperformance against Murray State. He went

(25:18):
in thinking that, you know, they had a shot. Here's the big
showdown. They're a ranked team.Let's show and man, it got to
twenty in a hurry. It gotto twenty in hurry. So you might
not even get that Belmont Murray Staterematch because Morehead State does match up really
well, and we saw that resultlast year in this very conference final.
So if I were leaning one way, I would say we might be looking

(25:41):
at a Morehead Murray State final andthen yeah, I'm leading Murray State there.
But again, like you said,Astutelee, they don't need to win
any of these games to get in. They're in right now, close case,
end of story. YEP, totallyagree, and I'm I'm on it.
I think I just think Elmont isn'tquite what it used to be overall,

(26:03):
defensively or offensively this year. Idon't think they're beating Murray I think
they would be in trouble against moreHeads up fourteen right now in Tennessee Tech
with eleven minutes left to go,they've opened up. I think it's a
great game. I want SEMO.I'm telling the SEMO right now. I've
seen them. I'm like, wow, this team can really score. Murray
State time out under sixteen, SEMOup sixteen to eight, time out Mary

(26:26):
State. There you go. Seewe get that one, right, That'll
be a that'll be a ding ournext podcast, I wouldn't mind that at
all. That'd be exciting. Ithink everybody in March would appreciate that and
enjoy that, all right. Andone of the other things that we've gotten
spoiled with Mike are these buzzer beaters. I mean, this has been absolutely
it's been almost a blessing if youbelieve in such things for our particular sport.

(26:49):
And it introduced March in just theperfect way for our sport. So
I'll just run down a couple ofyou tell me, you know if I
miss one, or you know, just what you thought of it. We
had old Gardner web friend Perez, who's you know from from the area.
He ended Iona seventy four, seventytwo. He had a little twisting floater
in the lane for our local ManhattanJaspers to get the win over Rick Patino

(27:14):
and Iona. So that one wasreally cool. And then really quick,
Yeah, you know guy or aguy Philodico or our friend who covers.
He says Perez is the player ofthe year in the conference. It's not
seriously, I was surprised, butwhen guy talks, I listen. Uh,
I don't know. I would goin deafu. I mean I think
Nelly Junior Joseph. I mean, there's some options here, but he likes

(27:37):
Perez. Good for him. Yeah, I think Perez needed to find the
right space for him to be himself. I don't think he was there and
Gardner Webber didn't end Uh, itdidn't end well there. So I'm glad
he came back home and has founduh, you know, found success at
Manhattan and its success in a bigway, so much so that he's getting

(27:59):
talked about for a Player of theYear inside the conference. Yeah, and
guys not. I agree with guy. I think he's played unbelievably well.
He's run a little point forward forthem and has been really impactful, done
pretty much everything that Manhattan could haveasked for it. And then stay in
local. Ron Harper does it again, Mike. I mean this time it
was up against Indiana and they gotthat huge road win that I think their

(28:23):
resume has been missing. And Imean he did it against Purdue. We
saw it from half court and thisone was just the pull up, just
shoot it straight in your eye.I mean he I mean, he's he's
in the conversation for Hey, we'redown, we're down two. Who do
you want the ball? With fiveseconds to play. He's one of those
guys. Yeah, and Gus,you can't say that they don't win on

(28:44):
the road anymore. Seventeen and two. Rutgers is eleven and eight in the
Big Ten, six and five, six wins against Squad one. They're in,
Gus, Yeah, they're And Iagree. One of our other games
that was just it went back andforth in the last fifteen seconds alone Chucky
Freshman right after Jade and Ivy hitsa three, and then before that,
Johnny Davis hits that pull up Banker. They played almost supporting roles Chucky,

(29:10):
Hepburn with about two seconds to go, Banks in the three. Who I
mean, you know we've constantly talkedabout the luck factor. It wouldn't be
I would sign up for this rightnow. How about if we have Wisconsin
and Providence somehow show up in thebracket together in March, and then we
can they can stage off in theluck contest. Yeah, Wisconsin, what

(29:32):
a great job. Great guard did, especially come out the last year when
they were criticizing him the other thingtoo. I am starting to get worried
about Purdue. I mean, atsome point, Gus, they got a
lockdown defensively and Jade and Ivy hasgreat plays. He also drives you crazy.
He's like a mini John Morant. But I'm concerned about produced defense in
terms of going to in a Finalfour and national championship, which you can
say about Purdue but you cannot sayabout Gonzaga. I am now getting concerned

(29:56):
about Purdue. Yes, I lostmy future on the Big Ten. I'm
a little better about that, butI'm getting concerned. Yes, here's the
reason I'm concerned about Perdue. Itseemed like in that game specifically, but
we've seen this before from Jay nIvy, and I think you just alluded
to it, he was playing moreagainst the number five draft pick in June

(30:18):
than he was against Wisconsin in thatgame, That's correct. He was attempting
to make plays that were not Theyweren't in the flow of the offense,
and you saw him pass up openjumpers, You saw him force when he
didn't need to force, and itjust seemed like he was disconnected from what
they wanted to try to do onoffense. And I think if he can

(30:42):
kind of get out of his ownNBA draft head and just play Purdue basketball,
then we're talking about something but ifhe continues to play with that type
of decision making, I'm definitely worriedabout them. Yep, yeah, perfect
siment. Yep. Our guy AndreScreen from Bucknell tips in the tying basket

(31:03):
with two seconds to go inside thePatriot Tournament. I love that. You
know, Andre Screen can have animpact in the Patriot Dayton runs the perfect
baseline out of bounds play with twoseconds to play. Malachai Smith tosses it
up perfectly to Blakeney and they beatRichmond on the road fifty five fifty three,

(31:25):
by the way, unbelievable work bycoach Grant because Blakeney was subbed in
four for that play. Yeah, brilliant. Both of them were great,
very exactly what you're looking for incollege basketball. The Dayton one was fantastic
Dayton. I was down on beginningof the year. What a job they've
done coming back from using losing threein a row to U Maslow, Limpscombe
and Austin Pay. Tremendous job byAnthony Grant thirteen and four, twenty one

(31:48):
and nine Davidson on Saturday popcorn Ready, and then they end up going to
the tournament. Great win for them, and yes they covered by the way
Gus, which was very nice. That was very nice. Can I throw
a little something in everybody's ear here? How about Dayton and Dayton in March?
Oh my god, Oh my goodness, how exciting would that be?
All in? And then your guy, ye Flanders Fleming junior from Florida.

(32:15):
He hit the big three with sixseconds to play. And I'm sure our
buddy Eric Fawcett out there this wassuper pleased about that. And I want
to say, on the last podcastyou even said I'd love to see Fleming
in a game winning jumper, butI don't know if it's gonna happen.
And it happened against Bandy just onegame off. I love it. And
Flanders Fleming ending his Charleston Southern careerwith a big three to end the last

(32:37):
game last year for the Buccaneers andthis year picking up right where he left
off. The guy hits big shotsand they need players to make big shots
of this team still untrusted. MikeWhite like Florida a lot like their talent.
We'll see what happens. But FlanFleming love them. I love Flan
Fleming. Beautiful Friday, we talkeda little bit about what's coming up down
the pike. So we'll go alittle fortune teller here. Friday, we

(32:59):
talked about State in Belmont. They'reboth going to be in action on opposite
sides of the bracket. We haveBuffalo at Ken State. That's an interesting
one with two top teams in theMAC and then out west the WCC gets
rolling as well for their first coupleof rounds. And then Mike, we'll
just dive into Saturday a little bithere. Let's see which way you like,

(33:19):
what you're paying attention to, andwhat you think might happen, and
maybe why this game might be important. I'll just run down a couple of
you tell me, aren't your quickthoughts? Let's start with the number fourteen
Arkansas heading two, Tennessee, numberthirteen twelve new and ESPN. Are we
just riding the musbus here? KenPalm has it a Tennessee minus seven.
No way, if I get burnedby Tennessee at home, I'm fine with
it. I'm not going to getto the musbus and J. D.

(33:40):
Noote And by the way, guessI did watch that again the LSU game.
He did travel before the foul,he did leave the speed and come
back down again. But it wasclose enough that I don't care. I'm
taking the seen with the musbus.I get it. It's Tennessee. No
way, it's too high. Itotally agree. And again, we were
giving you full permission. The podcastis giving you full permission. You can
put JD. Noote on an AllAmerican team. Found everyone and everyone,

(34:02):
let's go to You mentioned this rightbefore. How about Davidson at Dayton.
It's on the USA Network at twelvethirty. You have a little a ten
feel here for us. I likeDayton at home. I foster Lawyer.
Is he gonna play? That's agreat quiet toy, play lest game against
Mason. Maybe he did play,if he listen. If he doesn't play,

(34:22):
that's basically taking like the steering wheeloff of Davidson's offen Lloyd. And
that's the issue. It's lawyer dependent. If it's if lawyer plays it to
stay away. If he doesn't play, I'll take Dayton absolutely. Number seven.
Kentucky at Florida, is you know, is just lem me gonna do
it again? Does Kentucky get right? What do we got here? I
love Florida? But oh it's sixoh Florida getting six. Stay away.

(34:46):
I can't pick that game. It'stoo much. Yeah, I would.
I would like two or three withKentucky, but six is too much.
I want no part of that.I like to Tucky to win, but
I don't think the cover. Iwould stay away from that game as well.
I think that's gonna be very fishyand very interesting. How about how
about your guy? And I thinkMitt miss Randall appreciates South Carolina, right,
yeah, Frank Martin, South Carolinais is five hundred in conference and

(35:08):
you know, kind of hanging around. They're at number five. Auburn any
shot here? No, okay,I know, because I I Auburn needs
this game. They lost to Tennessee, they lost to Florida, they beat
Mississippi State and overtime. I loveFrank Martin. Auburn beat him by fifteen
on the road. I love FrankMartin. I'm going with Auburn here.
I went a part of this,no doubt. Louisiana tech UAB, I

(35:30):
love UAB at home here. Hugegame. You have two of the best
players in the conference with you know, with Jelly and with Junior Lofton.
That alone is worth the watch. But the fact that both of these teams
are legit teams and UAB has achance to get in at large bid.
What do you think with Louisiana Techand uabat I have you right now,

(35:52):
kempom as u B minus seven.That's too much. I just think it's
too much. I love you toomuch. Yeah, I for me,
that's too much. I love you. Would be to win. I really
do four, three, three anda half shot or seven, depends what
it gets to. Maybe maybe it'sfive. But right now, if it's
seven, guts says Louisiana Tech,A lot of God its woften. Okay,
let's go twenty one, number twentyone Texas at number six Kansas.

(36:15):
This one's really interesting. Four o'clockESPN. Kansas definitely has been struggling,
maybe taking some of the foot offof the gas. Texas. You want
to see them kind of figure thingsout. It's hot, it's cold,
they're good, they're bad Texas,Kansas. Will this be the big game

(36:38):
it's supposed to be or will itbe a little bit of a letdown?
I would lean the Kansas Way,fog, Senior Day, Senior Nights.
Maybe some of the that's involved.I mean, I don't know. What
do you feel with Texas and Kansashere? Texas thinks I think Beer's done
a really solid job. Tray Mitchellleft the program. Dad was mad,

(36:58):
who wasn't playing enough? Kansas nowescape TCU tonight at home, chance to
win the Big Twelve at the fogagainst Texas, who struggles to score and
their last few games have been homelost to Texas Tech home went over TCU
one point went away against West Virginiahome loss to Baylor. This is Kansas

(37:19):
by ten to me, and KenPom has it at five, So I'm
gonna lay the points right away.Love the Jayhawks here. They are not
losing to a limited Texas team withoutTrey Mitchell went a chance to win the
Big Twelve title, They're not.So if they win by four, I'll
take the loss. I'm laying thepoints with the Jayhawks. Love. Love
that strategy. Mike, what areyou more excited about? You're more excited
about UNC Duke or Penn Princeton Atsix o'clock, Oh, we going Ivy.

(37:45):
You know where are we gonna go? With the Blue Gus. I
want to say Pen Princeton so butI can't. And coach Kay's last game
against North Carolina. I can't,I want to say pen Princeton, but
yes I will, I will watchUNC. Yes, yeah, And of
course the great story of how youand missus Randall started, you know,

(38:06):
the relationship that you are now investedin is through a Duke UNC game.
So yes, perfect, all right, and then let's get to the two
late ones Boise State, Colorado State, and then we have USC and UCLA.
Yeah, right now, it lookslike Colorado State by three against Boise

(38:27):
unfortunate here for my rams that theBoise State is fifteen, is fifteen and
two colorad States thirteen and four.So Colorado State cannot win. Uh.
The Mountain West Boise State has wrappedthat up. However, I love my
rams, love them at home.Boise State great on defense, but I'll
go with my rams here and laya couple of points. It's a shame
it's not for the mount West Conference. That'd be great. But how are

(38:50):
you going against Roddy, the bodywho, by the way, should be
the Mountain West player the over OrlandoRobinson, come on, and even Matt
Bradley with his spin moves. I'mstill going with David Roddy I would go
with David Roddy for the year insidethe conference as well. And again we're
giving you full permission to put DavidRoddy on an All America team at some
point you have permission from the podcastthat's both JD. Note and David Roddy.
We want to see both of themon an All America team. Please.

(39:13):
And then do you feel like UCLAneeds to make a statement here to
kind of put themselves back into thatconversation or do you think they've just been
so at a site out of mindor do you think that the injuries that
they're trying to field and deal withare you know, messing up the calculation
that mccronan is trying to make onthe sidelines. Yeah, injuries are an

(39:34):
issue, but USC is a papertiger to me. Really got destroyed at
home by Arizona in a big gamethat they wanted sixty six percent from the
free throw line. They have someinjuries as well, they don't force turnovers.
Give me mccrone's defense at home,UCLA last stand here at the end
of the PAC twelve kemp pomp hasa ten. It's a lot, especially

(39:55):
because USC beat UCLA sixty or sixtyseven sixty four in February twelve. But
I'll take the Bruins at home andlay the number. I might go the
other way if the numbers that high. If if we're looking at double digits,
I think that USC they're still likeseeding to play for. So I
don't know if they would just goin and lay another egg against the other

(40:15):
big team in conference. I don'tknow if they would put those two games
back to back. I'm not sure, so I think I would go the
other way there. What else doyou have for the listeners out there?
Is there anything else that you needto share? Where are we going to
find you? Where should list someof the listeners go to see some of
your content? Us all over justworking hard. My hair here looks crazy.
I'm just all over the place.I got you look great, by

(40:35):
the way. I got conference tournamentsfor four for four coming out. I
got betting pros. We're going todo some NCA picks for them. I
still got the NBA picks that Ido every Wednesday and Friday on the live
stream as well, be doing somewriting for them. Livin the dream We'll

more buzzer beaters and maybe we caneven talk, you know, a little
bit more about what the Ohio ValleyConference, the Horizon Man, maybe even

things would be exciting. And whoknows what our sport is going to leave
