Speaker 1 (00:01):
Hello, and welcome to the latest episode of the Shaw
Local Bears Insider podcast. I Am Chicago Bears Be reporter
Michael Duo Jack here with the Northwest Hero's Joe Aguilar
as we are getting ready for week number nine.
Speaker 2 (00:15):
As the Bears play the Cincinnati Bengals.
Speaker 1 (00:19):
Head over to the I think it's called the Queen City,
right like the Queen City on Sunday afternoon to play
the Bengals, and it should be a really interesting matchup.
Speaker 2 (00:29):
Hell, a lot of different We had a lot of.
Speaker 1 (00:31):
Different storylines here. Again we're talking about who's the quarterback
for the opposing team. Again, we're talking about Kayleb Williams. Again,
we're talking it feels like groundhog Day, Joe. I feel
like we're talking about the same things we did probably
a week ago in a game that we feel like
the Bears should probably win.
Speaker 3 (00:48):
Yeah, and just like last week, almost to repeat ourselves,
here's which quarterbacks can have played for the opponent, because
that makes a big difference.
Speaker 4 (00:55):
We know it's not gonna be Joey Burrow.
Speaker 2 (00:57):
He's go out.
Speaker 4 (00:58):
We'll see if they get them back.
Speaker 3 (01:00):
If you get to him back at any point this season,
maybe December, but in the inter room. If it's Joe Flacco,
you'd think, well, that should be a w But then
you see what he's done in the three games he's
played since they acquired him in trade from the Browns,
and he's pretty good.
Speaker 4 (01:14):
He's looked pretty good even at his age.
Speaker 3 (01:16):
And then but then he's been hurt and I don't
know what the latest status on him is. But that's
the question going forward to if they get if they
got to play you know, Jake Browning, well like being
Tyler Huntley.
Speaker 4 (01:28):
Oh wait to wait. They lost to Tyler Huntley last week,
so who knows.
Speaker 1 (01:32):
Yeah, it should be a really interesting A lot of
variables into this matchup. If you're joining us on YouTube,
thanks so much for joining us live. We appreciate it.

Speaker 1 (01:57):
Good way to grow the brand and good way to
grow the podcast in the life stream. Before we get
into matchups show, it's been a busy week here at
Hallis Hall. Obviously, the Bears, as we know, have a
lot of injury stuff, and they made a big signing,
and let's talk about that big signing. First of all,
they signed CJ. Gardner Johnson. He was available on the market.
(02:19):
He started the season against the Houston or with the
Houston Texans, and the Texans released him. Baltimore actually had
him on it's uh on there on its practice squad
for a week, then they released them and then the
Bears picked them up on Wednesday, made that official, bringing
in some secondary depth.
Speaker 2 (02:39):
Clearly, you know with Kyler Gordon going.
Speaker 1 (02:41):
On i R on Saturday that he'll be gone for
the next at least three weeks since he missed Sunday's game,
it's four weeks, but since it was a Saturday thing,
he'll miss the next three games at least. What were
your reactions when you saw the signing, Joe, because clearly
the Bears needed the secondary healthy, need someone to play
that Nickels spot.
Speaker 2 (03:01):
I think I think Nick McCloud has done a fine job,
but I.
Speaker 1 (03:04):
Think maybe the Bears are like we needed I think
they wanted someone else in that spot other than Nick
McCloud and Josh Blackwell. So what were your thoughts about
bringing in CJ.
Speaker 2 (03:15):
Gardner Johnson?
Speaker 3 (03:18):
Well, A little surprised because it's typically a move the
Bears as an organization don't make when you bring in
a guy who, lets face, it's been controversial, a melt content,
he's rubbed people the wrong way. I mean, it's not
because of talent that or lack of that. He's been
bouncing around the league here in the last year after
winning a Super Bowl with the Eagles, but it's clear
(03:42):
whise here he played with Dennis Allen. He was on
the Lions too, and Ben Johnson was there even though
Ben wasn't coaching him, So they know that the big
key here is Dennis Allen. Right, can they get this
guy to behave to exist with his teammate. I don't
know what the stuff he's act actually done to tick
people off, but apparently he has. But you could take
(04:05):
that aside. There there probably wasn't a better available football player,
let alone a corner on the market that you could
just get for for nothing. Basically, Uh, the kids Super talented.
He gets under people's skins, sometimes his teammates, I guess,
certainly other other players. We saw that with with the
Bear refuers though with Javon Wibbs and then Anthony Miller.
(04:27):
So no, he's a guy. He's one of a lot
of times hockey player is the guy. Yeah, you hate
him if he's on the other team, he's on your team,
you love him. So but just the desperation there they
were in the secondary with losing not only the three
guys we've alluded to with Gordon Stevenson and who's the
third Jayalen Johnson of Chorus. But you know, we talk
(04:48):
about going back to the preseason with Charrell Smith and
the ze Fraser.
Speaker 4 (04:52):
Kiddo they drafted, but you know it is not going
to play this year.
Speaker 3 (04:55):
So, uh, they're they're so depleted in the secondary, so
you get an opportunity to pick up this guy. We'll
see what the leash is on him. We'll see how
much he plays Sunday. We're not sure, ma you know
more about that. Maybe circumstances will dictate that, but certainly
he's a I don't think he's been to a Pro Bowl,
but he's a Pro Bowl caliber player. I think he
had six interceptions last year for the Eagles.
Speaker 4 (05:16):
So he's a dude. He's a dude.
Speaker 3 (05:18):
Just can he behave and can he be a good
teammate because if he can't, I don't know. If I
don't know if it's what's the phrase, if a Tiger
changes changes the stripes. I don't know if that's possible
with this kid. But if it is, they got a
good football player and it's for nothing. I don't know
what they're paying him, but it's a pretty good deal.
Speaker 1 (05:39):
Yeah, This for for me, felt like a move where
the Bears Ben Johnson and Ryan Pauls must feel really
confident about what they have in their locker room, where
they were confident enough where they knew that Kevin Bayers
and the Jakwon Briskers and the Tremaine Edmunds and of
the world, we're not gonna let this one guy kind
of take go over and change the culture. Right, So
(06:03):
it felt like a risk worth taking for the Bears
because of that. And you know, it's interesting because you know,
throughout the years, it seems like Ryan Bols has been
a risk adverse right, Like he he didn't take Jalen
Carter because of the situation. He has probably steered away
against some guys because of things that he've heard or
experiences he's had with But for this, it felt like
to me where Poles was confident in Ben Johnson and
(06:26):
Dennis Allen and the locker room where he's not going
to be.
Speaker 2 (06:29):
A menace, He's only going to be whatever.
Speaker 1 (06:32):
And then maybe maybe there is a short leash, you know,
something no one we didn't ask No one asked him,
you know, Ben Johnson, Dennis Allen, whether he's going to
have a short leash or anything like that. But it
did based on everything that we talked to with Ben Johnson,
you know, we talked to Dennis Allen about it. We
talked to you know, Kevin Byron about it, Jakwan Brisker.
Everyone was very confident in the due diligence and that
(06:52):
he was going to be able to fit in. So
if I'm the Bears, I'm kind of like, all right,
Like this guy had six interceptions last year.
Speaker 2 (06:59):
He wanted to Super Bowl.
Speaker 1 (07:00):
He saw you know, he even said himself when we
met with him, where he saw what it takes to
win a Super Bowl championship, Like he saw what it
takes to you know, put in the work, and I'm
curious and I'm very interested to see you know, like
most of us in our lives, like we obviously mature
with age. So maybe he's matured. Maybe he's learned from
winning a Super Bowl that this is what you need
(07:21):
to do.
Speaker 2 (07:22):
You know.
Speaker 1 (07:22):
He was asked, you know, does stuff get under you know,
do you say stuff to get out of people's skin?
And he was like, listen, if they get offended, they
get offended. Like I don't think you're going to see
him not saying that kind of stuff. But I don't
think that you're going to see him make a negative
impact on this team. Maybe maybe he can't play to
the level that he did last year with the Eagles
or two years ago with the Eagles where he.
Speaker 2 (07:43):
Also had six interceptions.
Speaker 1 (07:44):
Maybe his play on the field is not going to
be the replacement level that you need. And maybe it will,
but I don't I don't think that the Bears make
this move if there're any hint of worries that he's
going to be a disruptor and locker room.
Speaker 3 (08:02):
Yeah, I this seems like a movie, like like like
like the Chiefs make right, Like oh sure, because they
don't care because their their room is so secure, and
they got the leadership, and they they would bring in
a guy like this and then then you'd say, oh,
sure the rich get richer, Sure they get c. J.
Gardner Johnson. Okay, but the Bears. But you know it's clear.
I mean, if this was last year met Eberflus for
(08:23):
coaching team, not picking on Matt but or any other coach,
it was John Fox. I mean, you're not bringing this guy.
And so it's the familiarity, in particular with with Dennis Allen.
So now I didn't hear the whole sound the interview
he had with the media. Gardner Johnson, Uh who I
heard he? I think I said he Now he says
once to be called c D.
Speaker 4 (08:41):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (08:41):
He wants to go by c D. Now, I don't know.
I'm just thicking with what his whatever his name.
Speaker 3 (08:46):
I came in the media, But but I didn't hear
much of the interview with that. I heard a short
sound bite. I didn't hear much contrition from the guy, like, look,
when you bounced around this much, this is this is
silly because you're a good football player, and it's not
because you just think at football, you're good at football.
So I didn't hear any contrition from the guy, like,
you know what, I've done some bad things, some things
(09:07):
that rubs whatever, Like no accountability there. That's what I
wanted to hear more unless you heard that, unless he
said that I just missed it, then I apologize. But
that's what I want to hear. Like after a while, man,
it's like, dude, it's not everybody else to you. Look
in the mirror and why you're still a young guy.
He's twenty seven years old. I mean, if he stays healthy,
he just guy can play another you know, five ten
(09:29):
years in the league. Who knows, because he's good. And
what team doesn't need secondary help. I mean, even if
you're loaded as we see what the Bears, as we've
seen with the Bears this year, you always need secondary help.
And this guy's a good football player.
Speaker 2 (09:43):
Yeah, I would.
Speaker 1 (09:44):
I would say, I you know, I've seen some guys
in the comments, you know, say you need a guy
like him, and I don't disagree. Like Kevin Byron even said,
like you need a Dennis Rodman right, like you need
a Jokeim Noah, you need an Andrew Shaw. You just
need like a guy who like you hate on any
of the team, but like when he's on your team,
you like you like him because he kind of instigates
and that kind of stuff. Now, if that instigation leads
(10:07):
to fifteen yard penalties and drive kills, like, I don't
think they're gonna put up with it. But if that
leads to you know, maybe you know, you know, you know,
maybe Jamar Chase isn't as focused because this guy won't
stop the apping happened, then I think the Bears were
fine with.
Speaker 2 (10:21):
That, but so it'll be interesting to watch.
Speaker 1 (10:23):
He's gonna play in the slot, Ben Jonson said, and
Dennis and both said that he's only gonna focus on
the slot position he played. He's moved around a lot
in the secondary, but he's been playing a lot of safety.
He's been playing a lot that slot corner. So this
is very clearly a move just to kind of until
Kyler Gordon gets back. You know, he was asked, are
you gonna play this week? He said, I'll see you
(10:44):
on Sunday, So I think that answers that. So we'll
see what that impact is going to be like. But
an interesting move made by the Bears. And we'll see
how much of an impact it has in that secondary,
which was injury depleted.
Speaker 2 (10:56):
But the Bears that get some good injury news when
they came.
Speaker 1 (11:00):
To that secondary. Tyrek Stevenson was a limited participant on Wednesday.
He's a full participant on Thursday. So I would imagine
that Tyrek Stevenson is gonna get back in there.
Speaker 2 (11:11):
And Joe, that's a huge you're going against. You know,
I'm sure we'll preview that. You're going against Jamar Chase,
You're going against thee Higgins. You need Tyrek Stevenson back
in that secondary if you're gonna want to try to
stop him.
Speaker 4 (11:23):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (11:23):
Absolutely, that was really encouraging news because yeah, with Chase again,
we'll get to it, but it's gonna be like one
of those like when Michael was in his prime. It's
like you're not trying to stop the guy. You're just
trying to, you know, contain him, to limit him. Because
Jamar Chase is going to get the football and it's
just a matter of you and to me. Again, we'll
(11:44):
maybe'll break it down some more, but uh, the best
way to prevent him from getting the football keep their
offense off the field, right which means the Bears offense
and Caleb need to have a big game.
Speaker 4 (11:56):
That would go a long way in helping the defense.
Speaker 1 (11:59):
Yeah, definite would, And obviously I don't know everyone's talked
about it. He you put two or three guys on him,
it doesn't really matter who you put on him.
Speaker 2 (12:08):
He's going to make a play.
Speaker 1 (12:09):
He's made it with Joe Flacco, He's done it with
Jake Browning sometimes, so.
Speaker 2 (12:14):
It'll be really good to have Tyring Stevenson back early.
Speaker 1 (12:17):
At the beginning of the week, we had a little
bit of a little bit of a square where the
Bear's top three wide receivers did in practice. Roe, Mdoones, Ay,
DJ Moore, and Alamide's a case we're all out in practice.
They all returned to practice yesterday in limited fashion. DJ
Moore is just going through that real Madons they had
a heal, and Alamode is still dealing with that knee.
(12:40):
We didn't get a chance to talk to Elaminade, but
DJ and Romebo say they'll be fine, so I'm not
really concerned about that. Cole Comet returned to practice this
week two with that back injury. He's limited in both
back to bad days. He said on Wednesday. We'll see
how he's feeling, but he's hoping that he can get back.
That'll be a big addition back in there, especially if you're.
Speaker 2 (13:01):
Trying to run the ball.
Speaker 1 (13:02):
Joe Touney had a rest day on Thursday. Not concerned
about that. It seems like they're just gonna give him
a rest day every Thursday. Luther Burden remains out with
a concussion. He hasn't left concussion protocol.
Speaker 2 (13:14):
So I don't know how he would do there.
Speaker 1 (13:16):
The biggest one is DeAndre Swift, right, and we've talked
about DeAndre Swift here for the past couple of weeks,
and we've given him his kudos where it's very clear
that he's playing injured like he's not. He's not one
hundred percent. They're trying to limit him with that, with
that growing injury. He didn't practice on Wednesday and he
didn't practice on Thursday, which is different from the previous
(13:38):
two weeks where he didn't practice on Wednesday, but he
was limited on Thursday. Obviously, we'll see what the injury
report looks on on Friday, But Joe, are you concerned
that you know, even if he does practice today, it
does this kind of feel like a game where you're
you're this might have to become the Kyle manung Gay game.
Especially you know, Roach Johnson has been out with the
(14:00):
back injury.
Speaker 2 (14:01):
Even if you get DeAndre Swift.
Speaker 1 (14:03):
In there, I feel like this feels like, hey, rookie,
like we need you to carry the workload here because
our number one guy, like he's he's just dealing with
a nagging injury at this point.
Speaker 3 (14:14):
Yeah, and to clarify, is what's the injury with is it?
Is it a a groin? What's what DeAndre Swift?
Speaker 2 (14:20):
The injury? Swift, it's a groin.
Speaker 3 (14:22):
It is a groin, right, Gotta be careful. I mean
it's funny because you know, so many people before the season, like,
you know, we're looking like we need a number one
running back, not you know, a complimentary back. We need
a number one running back, and all of a sudden,
like you can't afford to lose him, you know, if
you have to play one game with on him, that's tough.
I mean, no offense to Kylemanunguy. I think you got
(14:45):
already a lot out of him for a seventh round pick.
But if he's gonna be your featured back, probably means
you're gonna be seeing a lot more. Not I'm saying
ten or twelve snaps for DJ Moore out of the backfield,
but probably you on him running a little bit there
because I don't know about Rosehawan Johnson. I mean that
then you're pretty much kind of too late to get someone.
(15:09):
I guess you could always activate someone off to practice
cover whoever they are. Travis Homer, I guess is ready,
but he's always been just a special teams guy.
Speaker 4 (15:16):
He's just a guy.
Speaker 3 (15:18):
So that's tough because Swift, he's not. Only Again last week,
even though the numbers weren't great, he was playing hurt,
didn't get a lot of touches out of the backfield,
I thought he but he still had a really good game.
Speaker 4 (15:31):
So that's three in a row here.
Speaker 3 (15:32):
And you know, especially with the with the run the
run game, that the offensive line uh doing a better
job there in space and part creating space.
Speaker 4 (15:43):
That's big.
Speaker 2 (15:44):
So I don't know.
Speaker 3 (15:46):
I mean, there's not so many injuries, but it's it's
funny again two months ago, if you would have said,
you know, a big loss would be DeAndre Swift, you say,
come on, but yeah, that's that's looming where that could
be a big loss comes Sunday. I hope, but you
gotta be careful with him. So with an injury like that.
Speaker 1 (16:02):
I think you have to be encouraged that if there
was a game that you were playing where you maybe
are playing without the Andrew Swift or you're limiting him.
It's against the Bengals, right Like the Bengals are averaging
are allowing an average up one hundred and fifty one
point nine rushing yards per game. That's the most in
the NFL. This really feels like a game. And we'll
(16:22):
hear from Bett. We'll talk to men. He have been
here in a couple hours, and I'm interested to see
whether you know, do you this is like this is
very clearly a nagging injury for Swift. So I wonder
do you just rest them and you rely on the rookie,
you rely on Travis Homer, maybe you get DJ Moore
a little bit in there. But given how bad the
Bengals rush defense is, maybe this.
Speaker 2 (16:44):
Is a game where you just rest Swift.
Speaker 1 (16:45):
You can give him a few extra days to kind
of get back in there, and then you can get
ready for the Giants. Here in a couple of weeks.
I'm interested to see what the thought process is. You know,
Ben's Ben's not gonna tell us anything. He's very clearly
someone who believes he's keeping you know, national secrets when
it comes to the injury report. But I do wonder
whether this is just a spot where you just don't
(17:07):
put Swift out there in harm's way. You let him
heal up, and you let the rookie and Travis Homer
just kind of run out there.
Speaker 2 (17:13):
Against a very bad, you know, rush defense. Yeah, I
don't know.
Speaker 3 (17:18):
I mean, since he played last week. I guess Baltimore,
I would.
Speaker 4 (17:22):
Think listen to just being careful.
Speaker 3 (17:25):
And almost like you know, do's not risk anything, go light,
don't practice whatever. I would hope he plays, but you
you have better pulls on that than I do. But
they're also at this see that this is just weird
part of the season now because where you're at record wise,
like do you think you can make a playoff run
(17:47):
or you're like, hey, we're just trying to see improvement,
you know, week to week or month to month here
and figure out the offense and get the quarterback right going.
Speaker 4 (17:58):
Into year three, I mean, what kind of year is this?
Speaker 3 (18:01):
You know, because then it's like, with a trade deadline
coming up here too, do you make a move to
get better as a football team? And you're like, Nah,
you know, we're not gonna risk draft capitol. We're not
We're not beating the Lions. We're not gonna win this division,
we're not beating the Packers. So I don't know where
they're at. It's a tough one. When you stink, it's easy.
When you're good, it's easy. But when you're in between,
so many teams are in this you know, five hundred
(18:24):
give or take a game, you know, it's a tough
spot to be in. So I'm not sure how they're feeling.
Like how I guess by my point, which I'm not
doing a good job of making, is how badly do
you think you need to win?
Speaker 4 (18:34):
This football game?
Speaker 3 (18:36):
Comes Sunday against the Bengals, Like, do you look at
it as they must win if we're gonna be a
you know, have a shot at the playoffs. You're like,
you know, we can't tell anybody on the record, but
we're okay if we lose, because where we're at, we're
just looking for improvements from other players and in other areas.
Speaker 4 (18:50):
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (18:51):
Rick says that crazy talk, Joe, you play to win
every game, and you know, I'm sure I get that
mindset obviously, but I do wonder. It's one of those
things for me where it's like, do you benefit yourself
for the rest of the year if you have Swift
missed this one game? Like you like, these injuries are
just like the soft tissue injuries don't go away.
Speaker 2 (19:13):
You know they they are going to nagt.
Speaker 1 (19:15):
There and they're gonna keep on being an impact for
you throughout the season. So I think the Bears would
rather have a healthy DeAndre Swift against the against the Vikings,
against the Eagles, against the you know, all those different
difficult teams that they're gonna play against.
Speaker 2 (19:33):
So yeah, I agree.
Speaker 1 (19:34):
It's an interesting thing and it will be really interesting
to see what they end up doing. Robert chiming in
from across the Ponda to hear from Robert, isn't Homer
ready to go at running back?
Speaker 2 (19:44):
I would assume he would go.
Speaker 1 (19:46):
He's been getting the second team reps during whatever we're
allowed to see during practice, and I would assume that
he would get the second team reps.
Speaker 4 (19:54):
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (19:55):
I think DJ will get a couple rushes here or there,
but especially with him dealing with that injury, I just
think you kind of need to limit him and have
him be a guy who's making an impact as a
wide receiver threat as opposed to you know, running back threat.
But again I might be wrong, and Ben Johnson might
think might think otherwise. All right, Joe, let's get into
(20:15):
our previews here. We've got to talk our big matchups here,
bears taking out the bagels.
Speaker 2 (20:20):
What's your big matchup they're watching for a Sunday afternoon.
Speaker 3 (20:24):
Well, I'll go with the obvious one. It's Jamar Chase
against who's gonna defend him? I would guess it's Tyreek
if he's good to go, But then it's who else?
And I really want to see what CJ. Gardner Johnson
brings to the football team, how much he'll play and
how much of thorn in the side will he beat
to anybody? Will he try to immediately go and be instigator,
(20:47):
you know, whether it's Chase or don't forget about T Higgins.
He's also good at football.
Speaker 4 (20:51):
So but and then.
Speaker 3 (20:53):
Again it's like last week, well who's the quarterback? Because
we don't know yet right for certain if Joe Flacco
is going to play. So that said, I mean, it's
just gonna be fun to watch Jamar Chase. I mean,
he really props to this guy. He's got what seventy receptions?
I mean, he could break Michael Thomas's record, which wasn't
set that long ago for receptions in a season. I
think it was one forty nine Thomas had with the
(21:14):
Saints a few years ago. And then remember Cooper Cup
few years ago, a couple years after that had like
one forty eight forty nine. But anyway, I mean, Chase
Triple Crown winner last year. He's just a special football player.
If you look at his career number, and this is
year five for him in the league already, now it's
really spectacular. I mean, he's not a Hall of Fame path,
you know. So he's just gonna be fun to watch him.
(21:36):
And again they've been he's been targeted ninety nine times.
Speaker 4 (21:40):
I mean, I don't know, you know, I don't know
what the Bear's targets.
Speaker 3 (21:44):
I'm assuming that Rome's you know, Rome leads with targets,
but not close to ninety nine.
Speaker 4 (21:49):
So it's that's not it's not a secret. What they're
gonna do.
Speaker 3 (21:53):
So, even if you don't want to watch that matchup,
you're gonna watch that matchup because they're gonna be going
to him a lot. But it'll be fun to see
what he does. Can they keep him out of the
end zone or try to limit his touchdowns? But he's
a special player and it'll be fun just to watch
that match. Whether it's Tyreek, they put Johnson, Gardner, whoever
they have back there, Nay Shawn right at times, whatever
(22:15):
they can to just try to not stop him, but
just try to contain him a little bit.
Speaker 2 (22:22):
I think you're gonna.
Speaker 1 (22:23):
Have to put both, you know, Tyreek Stevenson, and you know,
whether it's Kevin Byers, Kwon Brisker or in my PCJ Gardner, Johnson,
You're gonna have to get a lot of guys on him.
Speaker 2 (22:32):
He's on. He's been at an incredible pace here the
last two games.
Speaker 1 (22:36):
Twenty three targets against the Pittsburgh Steelers a couple of
weeks ago, sixteen receptions for one hundred and sixty one yards.
Speaker 2 (22:42):
Last week it went down Joe to nineteen.
Speaker 1 (22:45):
Targets for twelve receptions in ninety one yards. I'm interested
to see you know, I don't know, I don't think
it will change that much if Jake Browning as the quarterback,
but I yeah, I mean it's just incredible the pace
he's going on right now. And I don't know if
you have, like, if you're Joe Flackell, why would you
not throw the Jamar Chase right, Like, He's just an
(23:05):
incredible athlete who can do like you can throw a
fifty to fifty ball, And for Jamar Chase, I feel
like he probably gets like what eighty percent of the time,
seventy five percent of the time, maybe even higher than that.
Speaker 2 (23:15):
Like, he's just an incredible athlete.
Speaker 1 (23:17):
He's got this great speed, he runs his route so quickly,
his catch radius is insane. He's you know, I feel
like this fluctuates a lot, you know, Jamar Chase justin Jefferson,
I'm sure I'm forgetting someone right now, but he's one
of the best, if not the best wide receivers out there.
So yeah, I agree, this is going to be a
(23:38):
really tough spot for him. And I think let's not
forget Te Higgins is on the other side of things,
right Like, t Higgins is not a wide receiver to
you know, look, down upon at all. So this Bear
secondary is going to be really tested. And listen, this
is a really good opportunity for that pass rush to
create some pressure. Whether it's going to be you know,
(23:59):
Joe flat Echo who's actually run who's actually run it
a little bit more than he used to, or whether
it's Shake Browning, Because if you can't get much of
a pass rush here, you can't you can't let Jamar
Chase have four seconds to make a play on a
guy because that's just he's going to create a gap,
He's going to create some sort of space, and he's
going to create a lot of opportunities. So the Bears
(24:20):
are really going to need their pass rush to get
going if they want to stop you know, Jamar Chase
and t Higgins from having a big game. All right,
My big match up here is kind of what I
talked about last week, and that's you know, Caleb Williams
kind of living up to the moment, right like I
you look at this defense, This defense for the Angles
(24:41):
is just bad, which has kind of been crazy for
how good they kind of were expected heading into the season.
But Trey Hendrickson has in practice this week, obviously he's
not healthy, You've got I forgot who the defensive end
or the defensive tackle at your requested to trade yesterday.
Speaker 2 (24:57):
So that defense is not looking too.
Speaker 1 (24:59):
Hot right now. And you see it in the stats.
I mean, they are averaging two hundred and fifty six
passing yards allowed in the game. The Bengals have allowed
the second most amount of passing yards this season, that's
twenty forty eight. You know, last week we said Caleb
needs to kind of have his game and kind of
take over. And that's kind of how I feel in
this game because listen, I don't think they are going
(25:21):
to stop Shamar Chase. I don't think you're gonna stop
T Higgins. Those are just the lead athletes going against
an injured secondary for the Bears, and I think CJ.
Gardner Johnson can make an impact. It's great to have
Tyrek Stevenson back in there, but you're still missing you know,
Jalen Johnson, You're still missing Kyler Gordon. And to be
quite honest, like if it wasn't for the turnover, it's
like this defense has a lot a lot of allowed
(25:43):
a lot of passing yards. So you need Caleb Williams
to step up here in a big moment. We've been
looking for it. Yes, he's had the game winning drives
against the Raiders and the Commanders. Yes he had a
great performance to get the Cowboys, but going against a
team like the Ravens, going against a team like the Bengals,
you need your number one pick to step up in
big moments. So we haven't seen that from Caleb to
(26:04):
a full extent. We've seen flashes, right, We've seen him
do the great play. We've seen him leave a drive
and you know, score a touchdown. But for me, this
just feels like a game where Caleb needs to be
on his best performance. Move the ball down the field,
convert in the red zone, don't scramble just to scramble,
make the right plays, go out of bounce when you
need to throw it away, check the ball down, don't
(26:26):
throw the interception. You're going against a defense that is
really struggling right now, and I'm expecting Caleb to show
it this weekend. I think he really you know, he
doesn't need to be incredible, he doesn't need to have
one hundred and forty passer you know QBR and eighty
percent completion rate.
Speaker 2 (26:45):
But for me, he needs to be the reason why
you win this game.
Speaker 4 (26:50):
I agree.
Speaker 3 (26:51):
I mean I don't want to jump ahead here, maybe
I will about you know, our most valuable bear, who
we think is going to be the guy who shines.
He has to be that guy this week because I
don't know, I'm not confident really, any player on defense
is going to have a game, a big game. That's possible,
(27:13):
right especially way they've been producing turnovers up until the
last week. But it's got to be someone on the offense.
It's a it's a prime opportunity for someone to shine.
Maybe it's another guy if if DeAndre Swift doesn't play.
But but Caleb, you know, we talk about all the time,
everyone talks about how progress isn't linear. Well we started
to need we need to see a little more linear
(27:35):
ish movement here with the quarterback right. And a big
part of that too is just like you said, Michael,
run a little bit, man.
Speaker 2 (27:44):
I mean, you know, even.
Speaker 3 (27:45):
If it's a four yard game, it beats a throw
out of bounds or an off target throw that you
could have been intercepted, so you pick up a few yards.
He's a good runner, He's not justin fields in the
open field. No punt attended there or double word. But
he can run, he can move. And again we see
all the big the stud qbs do it. Mahomes Alan
(28:08):
Lamar is a different story. But you know Mahomes and
Josh Allen don't prefer to run, but when they have to,
you got to make a play.
Speaker 4 (28:16):
I mean those are like momentum.
Speaker 3 (28:18):
Changing plays to keep a drive going, to give yourself
a shot. And as we're seeing too many times, and
this is probably the case with a lot of NFL games,
but there are so many times where it's just it
comes down to like two or three moments in a
game where you know, and lot of times it's early
in the game and then you know, come late in
the game, like you're you know, you're you're pressing and
(28:38):
you're throwing. Like we talked about the other day, you're
throwing an interception deep in your territory and everyone's focusing
on that interception while you lost the game. But it's
the other things earlier in the game could have kept
the drive going by doing one little thing and all
of a sudden, maybe you do it in the into
the end zone. So I just want to see a
better all around performance, uh from Caleb, Like like you said,
that's it's a perfect opportunity here.
Speaker 1 (29:02):
And obviously, you know we focus on Caleb, but you
got to get rid of the faalse starts. Those the
penalties need to stop. Obviously.
Speaker 2 (29:09):
You need your guys to you know, hit the routes
the right way. Like it's not fully a Caleb problem.
Speaker 1 (29:14):
Why this offense isn't working right, Like, it's not if
you blame the quarterback obviously for a lot of the things,
because he's a quarterback, right, But I am interested, you know,
I'm currently reading Seth Wickersham's book, you know, the Quarterback Book,
and it's been really interesting.
Speaker 4 (29:29):
And an interesting point that.
Speaker 1 (29:30):
He makes during the book is that you know, these
Tom Brady's Patrick Mahomes, they're not elite quarterbacks because they
make the seventy yard past right or anything like that.
They're lead quarterbacks because they know when to check down,
they know when to run for three or four yards
to pick up a first down, they know when to
throw it away instead of taking the sack. Like that's
(29:51):
what makes an elite quarterback. And I think that's where
Caleb is kind of developing right now, where he still
needs to learn and I don't expect him by year
two to be a Tom Brady or Patrick Mahomes, right, Like,
I'm not expecting him to be at that level, but
I do think you want to see him progress in
his development. Where I don't have anything I'm going to fight.
(30:13):
My instinct is run around for seven more seconds and
then throw it away or throw in.
Speaker 2 (30:18):
A double coverage and maybe it's a pick.
Speaker 1 (30:20):
I think, you know, it'll be really interesting to see
whether that development continues. Does he check down like Ben
Johnson talked about on an interception, Like, it's those little
things that really make a difference that I'll be watching
for too, because it'll be great if they do a
trick play it's a seventy yard pass to Luther or
whoever to DJ Moore or whatever, like that's great stuff.
But the real development to me is does he take.
Speaker 2 (30:43):
The easy stuff. Does he continue to kind of you know,
just move the ball down.
Speaker 1 (30:47):
The field, doesn't create himself in those third and long situations,
second and long situations, and does he make things easier
for the offense? So yeah, I agree, this just feels
like a game for me where you're going against the
bad defense. This is really a good opportunity to develop
as a quarterback, to work on some of those things.
So when you play the Eagles later on, when you
(31:09):
play the Vikings, when you play the Packers and the Lions,
you know what to do in those situations because you've
done it in game action before.
Speaker 3 (31:17):
Yeah, again, we need to see we need to see
a good game out of HND because it's been too long.
And you know, I'll get back to that opening drive
last week against Baltimore and you know, we know the
plays are scripted and everything, but that was a great,
great drive and then they then they broke down in
you know, inside the ten yard line. All that drive
was missing was the finishing play to get into the
end zone. And every time I'm watch an NFL highlights,
(31:41):
I'm seeing like guys like wide opening the end zone,
like from you know, on a first and goal from
the seven or you know, second and goal from the aid,
and then you're seeing guys like wide open.
Speaker 2 (31:50):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (31:51):
So there's gonna be a play like that, a well
designed play to finish a drive like that, and then
I think the confidence goes up, not only for Kayleb
with the entire offense.
Speaker 2 (32:01):
All right, Joe, what is your surprise prediction for Sunday, Well, I.
Speaker 3 (32:08):
Told you last week or yeah, I love CJ's about
a clean game.
Speaker 4 (32:14):
Basically, I don't know if that's gonna happen.
Speaker 3 (32:16):
Now you now you signed a guy who like watch CJ.
Gardner get a and get a fifteen yard on Sportsman
like comes down. Oh boy, So I'm not gonna go
that route. That would be lovely to see that.
Speaker 4 (32:28):
Uh not the.
Speaker 3 (32:29):
Penalty, the the you know, the lack of penalties by
the Bears.
Speaker 4 (32:33):
But I picked the Bears to win. I think the
Bengals still favorite.
Speaker 3 (32:37):
Again. The quarterback thing is so it makes us a
tough one. But I think you and I both in
the paper anyway, we both picked the Bears because I
went back and forth on that.
Speaker 4 (32:47):
But I don't know if it will.
Speaker 3 (32:48):
Be really considered a surprise. But I'm gonna pick the
Bears here, and I'm gonna pick I guess he's kind
of one of the same with my m VP Bear.
Unless you were gonna take him, it's Caleb. I think
he's gonna bounce back. I don't know, there's nothing I
make that opinion based on what's happened the last two weeks, certainly,
but I think he's due. I think this team Cincinnati
(33:10):
is right for him, and I would certainly think after
what's gone on the last two weeks, he's like, what
are you doing in practice? Otherwise if you're not getting
better here, it doesn't have to be day to day.
But I think I think he's just due for a game.
So I'm gonna say the Bears win this one, all right.
Speaker 2 (33:30):
My surprise prediction is that montest When is going to
have a big impact. I think that he's been he's
been getting there.
Speaker 1 (33:37):
I think he's been doing a good job the last
three weeks. Last year, he had a good start, kind
of kind of flamed out a little bit there, But
I think he'll have two sacks. That's my prediction. My
surprise prediction is going to be they has two sacks.
I think this is this is a Bengals offensive line
where you can maybe create some pressure and create some
good opportunities. So I think montest What is going to
(33:58):
have a two sad game here and kind of step
it up here.
Speaker 2 (34:02):
Robert chiming in, Ozzie's gonna have a touchdown.
Speaker 1 (34:04):
Palace reported as eligible receiver like ten times last week.
Speaker 2 (34:08):
Yeah, they've been doing that a lot the last two weeks.
I think that you know.
Speaker 1 (34:12):
Obviously the game, the extra blocker there, but every time
I'm like, this is going to Ozzie and you know
it hasn't yet, but I'm curious to see what that
kind of looks like. But Declan Doyle was asked about
that earlier this week and he said they've liked what
they seemed so far. Hasn't been too many times, like
Robert said, but they've enjoyed, enjoyed doing it. Se CJ
chiming in the biggest surprise, Bears keep passing game and
(34:33):
check by controlling the clock.
Speaker 2 (34:36):
I think I would agree with that. I think that
this is a game where you just want to contract that.
Speaker 1 (34:42):
Last week's game went so quickly, just all of a sudden,
it was like the end of the first quarter. It
was like halftime, and everyone was just like, wait, we're
not ready for halftime yet, Like this is taking too quickly.
So I can see that I can see that taking place.
All right, Joe, let's go to our most valuable bear.
You kind of cooped us here a little bit earlier.
I've got last week you won based on choosing DeAndre Swift.
(35:06):
He finished with eleven points. Coaston Loveland finished with seven
Fantasy points, so.
Speaker 2 (35:12):
He gave it to you.
Speaker 1 (35:12):
So now losing here a little bit left a two
game winning streak for Joe. I am like the Bears.
I've got a four to three record here, and Joe,
you have the first pick and you're gonna use your
second Caleb pick of the season.
Speaker 2 (35:24):
You're going to Caleb Williams.
Speaker 3 (35:26):
I am, I'm gonna burn my second Caleb, which I
have one left and half the season to go after
after this week. So yeah, I pretty much said everything
I need to say. But uh, the quarterback is better
than what.
Speaker 4 (35:44):
He's shown the last two weeks.
Speaker 3 (35:45):
Can we all agree on that? And you and I
talked about it a lot on Monday. We're not ready
to call him a bust by any means.
Speaker 2 (35:52):
And so it's not all on him.
Speaker 3 (35:53):
But I wanted to see more, you know, I want
to We have a game with zero false starts would
do wonders for this offense, It really would.
Speaker 4 (36:03):
And finishing it not only in the red zone. But
I mentioned this the other day.
Speaker 3 (36:07):
When you get the ball, when you get the ball
on the opponent's yard line, you know whether it's the
forty nine or because they've struggled with that too. And
there were a couple of key moments, one in particular
in the second half or late first half where it
was after the long kickoff return by Douverna me that
was second half where they had it at I don't
know the forty something yard line of the Ravens and
(36:28):
Squat didn't even get a first dollar. That stuff is
a killer. So a better execution there, the completion rate,
we know it's got to be much better, take the
easy throws. I think he's just got to be better
here after what we've seen the last two weeks. And
I'm not saying we need to see what he did
against Dallas, but we need to see we need to
(36:50):
see a happy quarterback too, and just guys like because
this is tough, it's tough for the whole offensive unit,
and I just want to see more of Rome. I
think Rome with Dunsa, I don't know. I don't play
fantasy ball. I don't know where we kind of where
he stands with fantasily, but I really like the player
(37:11):
Rome is developing. And do I keep seeing something on
social media about people say, oh, he's not making the
number one wide receiver catch, like the spectacular catch like
that one handed grab by DJ late in the game
against the Ravens, or you know those spectacular catches in
traffic that aside. I think he's been really good and
we hoped the Bears needed him to take a step
(37:33):
in year two. Rome has done that, and now Caleb,
you're the guy to getting the ball.
Speaker 4 (37:39):
I mean, maybe you're targeting him too many time.
Speaker 3 (37:40):
I know that's been a topic of conversation all week,
but I think Caleb is due.
Speaker 1 (37:47):
Yeah, I think you know the room we can get
into the room because I'm gonna go with him as
my most valuable bear.
Speaker 2 (37:53):
I think Rome is going to have a big game.
Speaker 1 (37:56):
I you know, with the Rome conversation about him, I
agree with it sometimes where it's kind of like there's
some there's at least one or two ball to him
in a game where he's kind of like, man, that's
like a number one catch, is that right?
Speaker 2 (38:09):
Like a top ten wide receiver catches that. And that's
not to say.
Speaker 1 (38:13):
That like he's not taking care of Like he's doing
what he needs to be doing.
Speaker 2 (38:16):
Like his routes are great.
Speaker 1 (38:18):
I like his blocking a lot on the outside, but
there's still some plays sometimes.
Speaker 2 (38:23):
Where it's like it's a hard catch.
Speaker 1 (38:24):
Mind you, I'm not saying that it's an easy catch,
but those are catches that number one receivers make, right,
Those are catches that Jamar Chase makes. Those are chances
that Jeffer's justin Jefferson makes that like, those are elite
wide receiver catches.
Speaker 2 (38:38):
And if Rome wants to be a top ten, a
top five wide receiver, like I'm sure.
Speaker 1 (38:43):
He does, those are the catches that he needs to
make sometimes, the catches that other wide receivers don't make.
So I don't think that don't and I don't think
there's too much criticism out there about him being like
bad or any means, but I do understand sometimes where
they're kind of like, that's a catch that he should
probably make if he wants to be considered a lead
wide receiver. But I am going with Rome. I think Rome,
(39:05):
you know, we were. It was one of my points
in my story on Thursday about is Caleb targeting you
know Roma Dunes say too much.
Speaker 2 (39:13):
Declan Doyle didn't consider it that way.
Speaker 1 (39:15):
He he you want to get your number one receiver
as many progressions, as many reads as possible, right, Like
the problem is if Caleb is focusing too much on
Rome and not going through his progressions to two, three, four, right,
I think that's when the problem is. And the Bears
don't consider that a problem right now, and so we'll see.
(39:37):
Maybe it was just highlighted this past week because he
obviously threw in the double coverage to Rome for that
interception when he had Kalm and I mon and I
open on that checkdown.
Speaker 2 (39:45):
But for right now, the Bears don't consider it a problem.
Speaker 1 (39:48):
So it'll be interesting to see what that target share
kind of looks like here this weekend, especially when you're
going against a not great defense, Like, is this an
opportunity for I've seen other guys mentioned Colston Lovelin, Is
this an opportunity for like CJ and Robert are saying
DJ Moore to kind of step up here. So it'll
be really interesting to see what kind of an impact
(40:09):
he's going to make and what kind of the impact
the wide receivers are going to make.
Speaker 2 (40:14):
All right, Joe Bears are playing at noon Central time,
one o'clock Eastern CBS game again as they travel to
an AFC East opponent. What happens Sunday afternoon.
Speaker 4 (40:26):
I think the Bears win.
Speaker 3 (40:28):
I don't have a lot of good reasons why I
think they should win other than I think they're due
for a good game and even go back again. Even
even the win against you know, the Saints here wasn't pretty.
The Raiders game wasn't pretty, you know, But I think
they're due here. We're almost at the halfway point, and
(40:49):
this is what does will be game eight right there?
Speaker 2 (40:52):
Four to three.
Speaker 4 (40:53):
Yeah, So I just think they're they're good again.
Speaker 3 (40:59):
I mean, if you, I guess you'll look back at
the seven games they've played the Cowboys is like that's
the game with the Star right that? No, no, you
no PU attend to there, I guess with Dallas, but
that that's you. That's your best game. I think they're
ready for another one, and I think they're gonna win
this football game.
Speaker 4 (41:16):
I think they're gonna score.
Speaker 3 (41:17):
I think you're gonna see I mean, what what what
means lovely to see the Bears like drop forty on somebody.
I don't think they're gonna get that high. But I'm
gonna say they're gonna get twenty eight points. I think
they're gonna win twenty eight, twenty eight, twenty one.
Speaker 4 (41:31):
How about that?
Speaker 2 (41:33):
That sounds right? Obviously, you know our our our score priate.
Speaker 1 (41:36):
I think we're I think I would choose the Bears
regardless if Flacco or Browning are playing. I think our
score predictions are gonna change it if it's Browning. I
think the Bears kind of blow this one up a
little bit. I think, uh, I think that they obviously
will do a bit. But there's a reason why you know,
the Bears, you know, or the the Bengals trader for
Joe Flacco, he's he's made an impact for them. But
(41:57):
I think the Bears win this game regardless. I think
I think they didn't like what happened last week in Baltimore.
I think they knew that was a game they should
have won.
Speaker 2 (42:06):
You could tell that.
Speaker 1 (42:06):
You could tell that in the locker room after they
got their own way and with all the penalties, with
all the inconsistencies, And I think they go back on
the road and they kind of show what they can
do against a winnable team, because listen, you've got you've
got the Bengals, you've got the Giants, and then you've
got I guess the Vikings and the Browns, who are
(42:27):
teams with losing records. The rest of your team unless
the game, the rest of your games are going to
be against winning teams and teams with that really good records,
like two loss games, three loss teams. So this is
a big opportunity that the Bears I think need to
take advantage of. So I think they will. I'll go
with a twenty eight to seventeen win. I think they're
(42:49):
I think they limit the Bengals a lot. I did
like the thought of they control the clock a lot here.
I think they're going to run the ball a lot.
Speaker 2 (42:57):
I think they're going to set up the pass by
the run, and then Caleb is able to execute some
key plays.
Speaker 1 (43:04):
So I don't think that I would love to see
them get to thirty or to forty.
Speaker 2 (43:08):
I just don't think there's gonna be enough time there.
Speaker 3 (43:11):
Yeah, that's the the onus is on the offense here,
because the Bengals will move with that. You know, those
receivers they have and no offense actually had a pretty
good year for them so far. Kind of well traveled now,
still a young guy, but anyway, so yeah, keep keep
the other offense off the field. That's always a good
(43:31):
way to play good defense quote unquote by not giving
the other team opportunities. But because when they get the ball,
they're gonna move there. They're probably not gonna have too
many three and outs. So when you get the ball,
hang on to it. It's got to be Kyleum a
young guy, Dad, it's got to be Kylam anung guy.
Speaker 4 (43:46):
Day.
Speaker 3 (43:46):
They're capable, and he showed two weeks ago what he's
capable of. Get a little confidence, and you get momentum
going on offense running the football like they did against
the Saints, but had a big game.
Speaker 4 (43:59):
So let's hope.
Speaker 3 (44:00):
DeAndre Swift plays because he's I just want to see
that role continue for him, because he's a weapon.
Speaker 4 (44:06):
We knew that.
Speaker 3 (44:07):
It just didn't look good early and a lot of
times last year because of the offensive line. But the
offensive line is figured it out. I got to figure
out THEO Bennett a little more. He's he's having some
troubles there at left tackle. But other than that, profs
to the old line and Darnell Wright, who we were
I don't know about we I'll say me and a
lot of the people were picking on a few weeks
(44:29):
ago because he's kind of been back healthy and good,
and but again, let's let's clean it up, clean it up.
And even Ben Johnson, he's been saying this for the
last three weeks. Imagine what we're gonna look like when
we take out all the penalties. So do that, run
the football, Caleb's do and they should win a football game.
Speaker 1 (44:51):
Sunday, Eric chiming In with the thirty four to twenty
three score for the Bears winning that game. Robert chiming
In saying, the Bengals will put thirty plus points up
on the board if it's flat going there.
Speaker 2 (45:05):
I wouldn't be surprised.
Speaker 1 (45:06):
I again, I think this defense creates a lot of turnovers.
But when that doesn't create a lot of turnovers, it
does give up a lot of yards. So the lack
of a pass rush has has been noticeable.
Speaker 2 (45:18):
I want to hit on.
Speaker 1 (45:18):
Two things before you say goodbye here quickly, Joe, I'm
surprised you didn't consider Austin Booker to be your most
valuable Bear, considering he's likely going to play this week. Guy, Yes,
I thought that would have been your number one choice. Quickly,
but I guess you, I guess I guess you want
to see what he does this weekend before of fully
embracing him as your most valuable Bear.
Speaker 3 (45:37):
Yeah, I'll be totally over the top of he has
two sacks Monday when we discussed.
Speaker 1 (45:42):
With one sack even I feel like you'll start off
the podcast just seeing his praises. So yeah, we'll see
if Austin Booker is able to make He's he's gonna
have to make an impact this week. The Bear's activated
him on Tuesday, so he'll he'll be back in there.
And don't want to spend too much time on this
because we gotta say goodbye. But Joe, do you does
your thoughts on what the Bears do in the trade
(46:04):
deadline change, whether they win this game or lose their game.
Speaker 2 (46:07):
Or are you kind of neutral at this point?
Speaker 3 (46:10):
That's a great question, It really is, because they're in
this tough spot. And getting back to Rick's point about it, Joe,
you played it well, you went every game. I get that, Rick,
but look, you think you think of the if the
Ravens needed to win that game Sunday to get the playoffs.
You think Lamar Jackson's playing. He's playing, but they're playing
the Bears and they had to be careful so that
that's only my point there.
Speaker 4 (46:31):
But the Bears in this tough.
Speaker 3 (46:32):
Spot here, but if they win, Look, I still say
anytime you get a chance to get a great player,
I don't how many great players are out there. I
know Trey Hendrickson is thirty, he's gonna be thirty one
in December. But man, the guy's just been a freaking monster.
And if you could get him, I know you got
a lot of money tied up in the old on
the defensive line, I'd get him. It doesn't sound like
he's going there in the other team's rumor. Looks like
(46:54):
he might be moving, but just not to the Bears.
If that's the case. If you're not gonna get a
guy like that, I don't know what other big impact
guy who is available.
Speaker 4 (47:03):
Many teams need a pass rusher who doesn't right.
Speaker 3 (47:06):
But if you can't get a guy like that that
hold pat and accumulate those, you know, hang on those
second round picks, because as we've seen this year, we
see how valuable those second round picks are.
Speaker 1 (47:17):
Yeah, I mean, I'm yeah, I'm kind of of the
mindset where I think we'll see I don't think we're
gonna see much this I don't think we're gonna see
much next week.
Speaker 2 (47:25):
I think this is.
Speaker 1 (47:26):
Actually going to be a trade deadline where Ryan bows
doesn't do what he usually does, and I think he's
just gonna say.
Speaker 2 (47:30):
I think maybe maybe they give.
Speaker 1 (47:32):
Up like a six or something like that for like
a secondary guy, or you know, someone just kind of
boosts the secondary.
Speaker 2 (47:38):
But for me, this team.
Speaker 1 (47:41):
Is in transition and everything that I've heard from them
this year doesn't really give me the impression that they're
going to go for it this week.
Speaker 2 (47:48):
This year, I think that they're.
Speaker 1 (47:49):
Kind of like, let's hold onto our assets. We can
get more guys on team control that Ben Johnson wants
in his room in the in the draft tore the
next week. I think the only way, and I don't
know how likely this is, if you can get a
Miles Garrett, if you can get a Max Crosby, do
it without hesitation, do it right, give away whatever they want.
Speaker 2 (48:10):
I Three first round picks is a lot for me.
Speaker 1 (48:13):
But I if you can get Miles Garrett or Max Crosby,
I think you make that trade. Those guys are still
on the younger side. They're both like they're guaranteed great players,
right and they're younger if you and but you know,
the Browns have laughed and said, we're not change trading
Miles Garrett. I think they should because if he doesn't
seem happy, and I don't know what the direction of
that team is, Max Crosby's kind of hard to tell.
(48:35):
The Raiders have also kind of laughed and said, no,
but where are you going with that? Pete Carrett? Like
they seem more of it. I feel like they thought
that they can just do an instant shock this year
and be a winning team, but that really hasn't happened.
So I don't know if I if I'm the Browns
and I don't know if they again. If I'm Miles Garrett,
do I want to go to the Bears? If I'm
(48:56):
you know, Max Crosby, do I want to go to
the Bears? Like I feel like at that point in
they're they probably want to go to like a Kansas
City or a Buffalo or a Green.
Speaker 2 (49:04):
Bay, right like teams that are on the verge of.
Speaker 1 (49:07):
Winning the Super Bowl as opposed to you know, a
middlean team like the Bears. But yeah, I mean, if
you can get a plus players like that, I think
you make the trade but other than that, I think
it'll be regardless of what happens on Sunday, I think
it should be a pretty quiet weekend up to Tuesday.
Speaker 3 (49:23):
And you really made a trade if you want to
put in that category this week with getting Gardner Johnson,
which I mean, you know, after a last season, if
they would offered you, you know, if the Bears would
offer a fifth pick, they probably would have given that up.
I would have, you know, for a guy coming off
the year he had on the field. That is, so
you know, they made a move. I think they didn't
pick up some guy they just signed and then they're
(49:44):
gonna put him on the practice squad as a depth peat.
This this is the guy. If he's if he behaves,
he's an impact player. So that would probably be it
for me. Unless the right They'll be always got to
be poking around. I'm sure Ryan pols Is you know,
is so. But I think Henderson's going to be moved
(50:05):
just from what I what I read and listen to
the NFL guys who are connected to the agents and stuff,
just not to the Bears.
