Yee ha.
The Artista series is a novel approach
to blending tobaccos, representing years of
hard work, development, and learning from failure and
capitalizing on success. To bring you our best
work yet. The artista harvest features
a supple. I can't speak that word
(00:40):
without laughing. Supple, top grade
Srimatra wrapper, a flavorful
Cameroon binder, and a filler blend that is
unlike anything we've ever offered.

Good ol’ Boy Bark: We'll be right back after this break.
(01:17):
Brought to you almost live from the dude in the
basement studios. Why? Cause that's where the
good stuff is. It sips, suds, and
smokes with your smokin host, the good old
boys.
(01:51):
Hey, man, got a light? It's
time for smokes.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (01:56):
Welcome to smokes episode, where everything good in life
is worth discussing. I'm your host,
good ol boy barter. And to my left is good ol boy
rich.

Good ol’ Boy Bark: Glad to be here, coach.
Good to have you, man. Good old boy Benjamin.
>> Good ol’ Boy Benjamin (02:10):
Yes, sir.

And good old boy Mike.
>> (02:12):
Yeah. I'm here to bring wrath
upon everything once again.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (02:16):
Yeah. Yeah, we nailed it for that one, didn't we? We were the best
thing on at 02:00 a.m. um, right before how to lose friends and
alienate yourself. And just
after, does this rag
smell like chlorophyll?
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: That's my favorite pickup line, right?
As you know, and I hope you know, our smoke segments are
about all about cigars and, well, anything that is
(02:37):
smoked. As for today's segment. Drumroll,
please. We will be
hanging out with our buddies at artistic cigars.
So strap on and hang in tight. We're gonna have fun today. But
don't worry, if you miss anything. You can download the full episode
from anywhere. You download
podcasts from Apple Music, Spotify,
(02:59):
ah, yeah. You name it, we're there. We're all
there.
>> Good ol’ Boy Benjamin (03:02):
Yeah.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (03:03):
But before we dive into the shallow end of the pool,
remember the buddy system. Where is your buddy,
Lars? Shouldn't you be watching the kids? Don't worry. I
have them on the body system. Body system?
Yeah. Have a look.
>> (03:20):
Buddy,
buddy,
buddy.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (03:30):
I love it. Every single time
I, uh, hear that, it just makes me laugh.
If you're a cigar newbie, fret
not. We got you covered in our cigar 101 episode,
where all the cigar speak will be
decoded. Just search for sip suds and
smokes cigar. One hundred one s. And that episode should pop
(03:51):
right up right in front of you and follow the link in our show
notes.
Good old boy barger, which is me,
gets the honor of going over our smokes ratings today.
>> (04:01):
Like how he can read his own.
You read such a great moment of accomplishment.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (04:07):
I'm really learning here.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: We can put anything in front of him. He'll read it.
That's right. You just put it in front of me.
All, uh, right. We'll be smoking and discussing these cigar ratings and rating
them with our sip suds and smokes. Smokes ratings.
Plus our signature sounds. Here
are those ratings now. One. This sucked before
it was even lit. Or
(04:29):
as we like to call it, Mike's rating.
Two. At least I lit it.
Three. I would smoke this again.
Four. How much you up for him?
>> Good ol’ Boy Benjamin (04:51):
Magnificent.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (04:53):
I got it. I forget that one every time.
Five. Where are they? I need a box.
So, Benjamin, why don't you go over the lineup today?
>> Good ol’ Boy Benjamin (05:05):
Yeah. The cigars we'll be reviewing today are the artist
at midnight, the harvest, the rugged country
series, Cimarron, and the Polita 60
anniversario.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (05:15):
And there's another one at the end that I didn't tell you
until you get to your notes.

>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (05:21):
Surprise. Surprise. Surprise. I'm
surprised. All right.
Good old boy. Mike's gonna take it away with the artista
harvest.
>> (05:29):
Hey, one thing I wanted to mention was another
episode that we actually got to talk with Kevin
Newman from Artista.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (05:36):
What up, Kevin?
>> (05:37):
Definitely. Take a look at, uh, that episode. It's actually
a video episode, one of our rare ones called the California
Pickle tickle.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (05:44):
Is that what that is?
>> (05:45):
Um, it's called cooking with Kevin. And it's a really great
conversation that we had with Kevin. Very, um,
interesting background. A lot of the way that he
approaches cigars, the way that he approaches cooking.
That's kind of his frame of reference, how it kind of
charges into, um, managing this product line.
And so we actually talked about his background actually
cooking. So that's why it's called cooking with Kevin.
(06:07):
And, um, so it's. It's a. It's a great
episode. Great conversation.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (06:12):
Um, speaking of sirens, huge shout out to
Juan with artistic cigars.
>> (06:17):
Okay.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (06:17):
Makes the best espresso at the PCA.
>> (06:20):
Oh, yeah. That's right. That was good.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (06:23):
He kept me going, bro. Kept me going. Love
him. Love you, Juan, uh, barger and Kevin.
>> (06:29):
Are on the first part of that episode, and then I joined them
for the, uh, online episode, which is audio
only, um, for another extended
discussion. So definitely if you enjoy our
discussion about artista and you're gonna come and actually
learn a little bit more about the person behind this brand.
Definitely check that out.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (06:47):
Definitely check it out. It's a good, it's a fun time, for sure.
>> (06:49):
Yeah.
So, uh, the first cigar we're gonna talk about from artista
is called harvest. The artista series is
a novel approach to blending tobaccos,
representing years of hard work, development, and learning from
failure and capitalizing on success. To bring you
our best work yet. The artista harvest
features a supple. I can't
(07:10):
speak that word without laughing. Top
grade Sumatra wrapper, a flavorful
Cameroon Cameroon binder and a
filler blend that is unlike anything we've ever
offered. Uh, there is the wrapper, which is
top grade sumatu sumatra. The
binder is marif el camarone, and
Benjamin's going to talk about that in just a second. And the filler
(07:33):
is a dominican proprietary blend.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (07:36):
I would have butchered the hell out
of that binder.
>> Good ol’ Boy Benjamin (07:39):
Top secret.
>> (07:40):
Yeah. So, um, Benjamin actually did a little bit of
hustle. We were sitting here, and I'm like, well, who's Mirafel? I'm
like, so you figured?
>> Good ol’ Boy Benjamin (07:47):
Well, you know, actually, I think the.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (07:49):
Conversation went, what's mirror?
>> Good ol’ Boy Benjamin (07:53):
And Benjamin was like,
I've seen that my refrial before.
>> (07:58):
That was the way you said it. I didn't say it that way.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: Like, your real vision.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (08:03):
That's exactly right.
>> Good ol’ Boy Benjamin (08:05):
Uh, but super cool, uh, piece of cigar history,
right? The Cameroon wrapper, um,
being, for me, one of the more sought after hours.
I tend to enjoy a lot of things
wrapped in Cameroon. The original Cameroon leaf,
though, does, uh, come from, uh, central
Africa. Uh, and in the Merritt fell,
Cameroon is actually, um, a
(08:27):
specific grower of this Cameroon
wrapper. Um, so Rick Mirafel and his family
have been growing the Cameroon, uh, tobacco
wrapper for over 140 years, um, in
central Africa. It's, uh, priced for its flavor. And
the more impressive part of this wrapper for, uh,
tobacco is that it's grown in some of the most dangerous and corrupt
(08:48):
areas of central Africa. Um, um, so
not only, you know, is you,
you get to
utilize this beautiful product
right out of a, ah, very,
um, you know, dangerous and chaotic
place.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (09:05):
Yeah, that's awesome.
>> (09:08):
Uh, here are some of my notes on the artista
harvest. This, I did not mention the
size. Um, which is, uh, what's the girth?
54 by five.
>> Good ol’ Boy Benjamin (09:17):
Today we're going to be demonstrating how to measure girth.
Girth is a very important measurement when determining
sizes. First, take your tape measure,
place it at the center of the shoulder, bring it
down through the crotch and back up
again, making sure
it's going over the widest part.
>> (09:36):
M again, I'll give you the widest
part. Uh, you know,
here are some of my notes. After fighting tons of
construction issues. Bad draw. It went out
twice. And then there were burn line issues. Um,
yeah, I was, like, bobbing and weaving through it
all. Uh, it's kind of spicy up front with,
uh, cedar and pecan nuts. Um, and then
(09:59):
it kind of moved to a mild profile with some stone
fruit kind of thing going on. So,
um, definitely not the favorite of
my, of, ah, this product line for me.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (10:10):
Really?
>> (10:10):
Yeah. I, um.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (10:12):
So you gave it, you know, your good old mic rating.
>> (10:14):
I did. And, uh, you know, I am just
not a fan of construction issues. It's just too easy to
hit the mark and do it right, you know, and I
just. When I'm having to fight through something like
that, I just wasn't a fan.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (10:27):
So what were the issues?
>> (10:28):
Uh, everything. Um, so,
yeah, um, bad draw, you
know, burn line issues, you know, just general
construction. And actually went out twice, you know, so.
And then, you know, the. The one
we're going to talk about later, you know, had some similar problems.
Rich, what'd you think, man?
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: I actually kind of liked it. Um, it was a
(10:49):
little bit, I think. I didn't have any construction
issues on, on mine, so maybe
that has a lot to do with it. But, um, it burnt
nice. Um, I thought it was,
uh, full flavor, but I didn't feel like it was
real complex.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (11:04):
I wonder how your humidifier at home is.
>> (11:08):
I had this in a fully humidified bag. I am
not going to take any grief. I had stored it the
whole time.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (11:14):
Is it a ziploc with a hole in it or something?
>> (11:16):
Yeah, that's exactly how I keep things
regulated. No, it was with the boveda bags,
man.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (11:22):
I loved the harvest, huh?
>> (11:24):
Ah.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (11:25):
I mean, I've smoked. I have probably smoked half a
box.
>> (11:28):
Of, say you like them, because you probably smoke,
like, eight of them.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (11:32):
Yeah. I mean, well, the thing is, is like,
you know, I'm, um. I'm a little biased to
people that I like and, you know, love and appreciate. So,
like, I've smoked quite a bit of the
artista line, but even before I got to know
them, like, I was smoking the buffalo tins.
I was smoking a lot of, like, the paper boys. The paper boys is my
(11:52):
jam. Like, it's that dog walker sized
cigar that, you know, we all love. That paper boy is
so good.
>> (11:59):
Yeah, I panned it.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (12:00):
Yeah, absolutely.
So, so. But the, but the thing is, is, like,
with, with the harvest series, um,
like, I really enjoyed. It's
a very middle of the road for me. Like, it's.
It's mild, not overly complex, but that. That
little bit of that cameroon pops out in, in
(12:20):
the flavor profile, and. And I think that it
gives it that really good kind of little bit of
spicy wash to it. Does that make sense?
>> Good ol’ Boy Benjamin (12:28):
100%. This one, for me, especially
being, uh, more familiar
with the, uh, like, buffalo tin, uh,
experience, and then that being my introduction to
artista, getting into the
harvest series, uh,
this one. This one was a step up for me. This is the one that actually kind
of, you know, you know, elevated m
(12:50):
mod.
>> (12:51):
Definitely better than the buffalo ten opinion of it.
>> Good ol’ Boy Benjamin (12:53):
I was okay. You know, like, they're doing some things here.
It's still, you know, a great purchase.
Right. Like, the price point on these things is solid.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (13:01):
Yeah.
>> Good ol’ Boy Benjamin (13:02):
You know, box press is, ah, $10.
That's for sure. We could have all episode about why I don't like box
press.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (13:08):
So. So let's give it a rating here.
>> (13:10):
Uh, yeah, yeah.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (13:13):
We'll go three across the board.
I say across the board. That's because it's the first thing that pops into my
mind.
>> (13:19):
Yeah.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (13:19):
But, you know, we all know you.
>> (13:22):
Give it a one, I think. Ho's, Mike.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (13:24):
Yeah.
So we just rated the artist a harvest cigar. Thank you for
coming back from the ads, and I hope you buy all of the things
from them. We rated the artist harvest a
three.
Now, next up, good old boy Benjamin
has the glorious pleasure of
(13:46):
telling us all about the artista midnight,
which is another harvest series.
>> Good ol’ Boy Benjamin (13:50):
Embrace the Dark.
>> (13:52):
Embrace the dark.
>> Good ol’ Boy Benjamin (13:54):
The Artista Midnight series is a novel approach to blending
tobaccos, representing years of hard work, development, and learning from
failure and capitalizing on success. To bring you our best
work yet, Artista Midnight is our first premium full
bodied cigar featuring a dark ecuadorian habana
wrapper, a Connecticut shade binder offers sweetness, and the filler
tobaccos from three countries impart an incredible
(14:14):
flavor profile. Uh, those three countries on the
filler are nicaraguan, dominican, and USA
blend. Cannot, uh, say
enough wonderful things about the artist
at midnight. This thing, uh, even, you
know, obviously from the branding perspective, it
looks in line with the harvest.
Um, so just thinking originally
(14:36):
holding it in my hand. Just originally
thinking that this was just gonna be a darker,
shade wrapped version of the harvest.
This thing is a completely different animal. Right upon,
upon further investigation, completely, um,
different blend, uh,
big, chocolatey coffee notes, subtle,
(14:59):
uh, spice. The retro hell on this thing, it's a little bit more
spicy.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (15:02):
I really like the retro.
>> Good ol’ Boy Benjamin (15:03):
And it was, it very, very. It's one of those cigars
where, uh, uh, you know, you're not supposed to retro
hell too many times. Right. It'll. It'll definitely mess
up the old factory.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (15:13):
There, the whole thing.
>> (15:14):
Uh, uh.
>> Good ol’ Boy Benjamin (15:15):
But I caught myself, like, trying
not to retro hell this cigar because I enjoy it so much.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (15:20):
What I really like is how the Connecticut shade
blended with the ecuadorian habano. And
I think that the subtlety of the spice that's in
it with the, the cocoa
notes of the habano is, uh, uh, with that
Maduro shade, man.
>> (15:36):
I think it was going to be a doormat, you know, to the
rapper. And it was
not. No. Uh, you know, I was. I
was like, wow, okay, this thing's kind of like, standing up to it.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: No, this is a. Yeah, this is a great smoke.
Oh, totally.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: I felt like, um, I thought it was going to be a lot
fuller than it was. So it was a little surprising to me
that I, um, felt like it was a bit smoother
(15:59):
than I had anticipated. Um, but
again, it, um, had a
lot of good, like a spice flavor. Yeah, that
left, kind of left that flavor.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (16:09):
Yeah.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: That Connecticut going was that aftertaste, you know, that
you kind of take around with you. But, yeah, it was really good and
I think, enjoyable.
>> Good ol’ Boy Benjamin (16:16):
You know, I think rich nailed it. Right. Expected it to be maybe
like a little more fuller, a little more punchy. Um,
um, then, you know, because of its shade. Right. And have
a little bit more power and, uh, artista rates at the same way.
Right. Like, this is full on, uh, uh,
you know, top end spectrum of
body and strength. And because it was so smooth
(16:37):
and well constructed and blended, this thing was
an easy sips. And, you know, this, this, it was
very, very, uh, uh, enjoyable
from a smoking perspective.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (16:48):
Yeah, well, I mean, I think it was
awesome. And like I said, I'm a big fan because I've smoked quite
a few. Uh, so I may be a little
biased. Let's just throw that out there. Um,
you know, full transparency here,
folks. I'm. I really like all the things
that they do in their profiles so best.
>> (17:08):
You like the lineup for me, hands down.
And, you know, I'm reading through my notes and
I don't get to type this very often. Oh, my.
Such great flavor.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (17:20):
That was the same thing he said about me the first time.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: Is he going to rate this a two full
leather? I'm shocked.
>> (17:26):
You know, a little subtle spice. Really
great construction, you know, around
this. Um, I remember that I was
about a third away through this stick and
I was like, um, I was just enjoying some
water with it initially. Uh, and I'm like, hmm, I really want
to see, you know, I don't know, I want to try
something different. And I went and grabbed a spanish gin, one of my
(17:49):
favorites. Van againder is the name of it.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (17:51):
Say that three times.
>> (17:52):
Yeah, um,
really fabulous spanish gin. And just had, it
was straight up with, uh, you know, a gin and
tonic. And, wow. I just was
ready to put up a sign, you know, um, by
me that says, go away.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (18:09):
Yeah.
>> (18:13):
Wow. I think probably the only thing that I
didn't like about this is I wanted another
stick and I didn't have another one.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (18:21):
And I was like, wow, I can make that happen.
>> (18:23):
Yeah, it, uh, definitely
was a game changer. Probably one of the better
Maduros that I've had. And again, you
know, my comment about, I really thought the
ecuadorian Connecticut was just literally going to
be nothing experience. And I'm like, well, this is just
going to be, you know, all smoke and, you
know, this heavy overtone from the Maduro wrapper and
(18:46):
the, you know, the rest of the cigars is going to sit there and go,
whatever, man. You know, and I,
I liked how it was a really elegant
cigar. I loved it all the way.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (18:56):
Well, let's give it a rating here, boys. That's a five across the
board. Uh, and I mean across the
board.
>> (19:03):
See, I can say nice.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (19:05):
You just gave a cigar a five. I don't know. It's a
great stick, man. Is this what a stroke
feels like?
I think I'm having a stroke.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: Am I drinking some?
>> (19:19):
Here's some new personal lube for you.
Enjoy the moment.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (19:23):
This is spearmint flavor.
All right, well, rugged country series,
uh, Cimarron. Is that Cimarron, is
that what. Rich is going to go over that with us right now? Tell us about it.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: This is a wild, raggy river. Cuts
craggy, snow packed peaks, raging
rapids slash through sparkling granite shores
(19:44):
dotted with tall pine trees, flowing
to a landscape with saturated riverbed.
>> (19:49):
Is this a movie something in Switzerland or. What's going
on?
>> Good ol’ Boy Benjamin (19:54):
I think it's the process of making that gin.
>> (19:56):
You were just waiting for Julie Andrews to hop out and go. The
hills are alive. Go
ahead.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (20:03):
All right, keep going.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: Sorry.
All right, these are the regions of
America, and the inspiration for Cimarron
cigars. One is. One is a
spicy Maduro complimented with hints of earthy
sweetness. The other is a mellow Connecticut
shade that enhances notes of cedar leather
and earth. Hmm. We've
(20:24):
selected rare and exclusive select tobaccos for
a smoking experience like no other.
And we're going over the Maduro.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: This is the Maduro. Yes. Rappers of Mexican san
Andreas. The binder is a Dominican
rare, uh, negrito. Yes,
Negrito. And the filler is a colombian,
dominican, and USA blend.
(20:44):
That's awesome. Well, this is actually one of those
cigars where it kind
of feels like, ah. Um,
it's very deceiving. The banding is very deceiving
because it's banded as a, like a budget, like a
cigar. M almost all their cigars are
under. Almost all their cigars are under
$10. So. So that's, that's a
(21:07):
good price point for me. So this,
this banding is a little
plain, um, for me. So it's like a
green, a green and white banding with cimarron
on the label.
>> Good ol’ Boy Benjamin (21:21):
Yeah, I mean, I'm in. I'm into
subtle, simplistic, uh,
labeling. Right. I think that there's a lot of
brands out there that really try to go over the top with
the band and really trying to sell
you with, with window
dressing.
>> (21:38):
You know, it covers up, uh, half the rap.
>> Good ol’ Boy Benjamin (21:40):
And, and I think that, you know,
what they're doing here for Martista is
really just keeping it simple.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (21:47):
Yeah.
>> Good ol’ Boy Benjamin (21:48):
Right. Keep, you know, keeping the.
They're. They're putting their money into the cigars
and the blends and. And the tobacco. Right.
And then, you know, obviously putting. Yeah, they're
banned on it, you know, so that you know what you're smoking,
but. But not trying to beat you up with it.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (22:05):
No, I get that. I, uh,
wholeheartedly understand what you're saying. Like, I, uh.
The. The way that they keep their price point down is to keep it
simple, for sure. A hundred percent.
>> Good ol’ Boy Benjamin (22:16):
And it's a country series, but,
like.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (22:19):
I don't know, like a four x four on it or something. Like a monster
truck or something, you know, some mud.
Uh, I don't know. It's not from Murray, Kentucky,
but anyway, like, uh, it's very
deceiving as well.
>> (22:33):
Completely underdressed.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (22:34):
Right.
In a second, just for
me. Uh, and we've. We've had this discussion
multiple times in. In here, in this
room and in other rooms that I can say, mike is right again.
No. Well, maybe. I don't know.
But I'm a sucker for branding,
(22:56):
and, and we all know that I'm a sucker for branding. And I
love their, their branding on
their harvest series, how they do their labels, and they,
they're color coding on that. And then it's just hard for
me to go from that to a simpler
band. But what
I have found is that,
(23:17):
man, that product really speaks for itself.
That Cimarron cigar. It's
fantastic.
>> Good ol’ Boy Benjamin (23:25):
Fan tastic.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (23:27):
And I, uh, uh, when I first started,
I really wanted to be like, okay, it's a
budget stick. Let me just see what it's about. But, dude,
I was wrong. And you could put that
in writing and tell my wife.
>> Good ol’ Boy Benjamin (23:40):
What did you say?
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (23:40):
It's fine. I was wrong. That cigar
was freaking awesome.
>> (23:47):
Um, my comments here about the, uh,
artist, Cimarron, um, a bit spicy
up front, kind of rather mild, um,
for this particular wrapper, um, some
off flavor thing that was going on in the middle of this. Um,
your fingers just kind of
a average, you know,
(24:08):
um, dominican, you know,
colombian thing going on. I just. I don't
know. It, um, it was just. Okay.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: Did you smoke the Connecticut, by chance?
Anyone?
>> Good ol’ Boy Benjamin (24:19):
I did. I smoked it.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: They're rating the Connecticut as, uh,
fuller flavor than the Maduro.
I, uh, concur.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: Did you see that?
>> Announcer (24:27):
Yes.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: You agree with that?
>> Good ol’ Boy Benjamin (24:28):
100%, I think you're saying. Well, I just think
that's one of the cool things. And that's. That was gonna be my talking point about this,
is that even though the Maduro
leans to be or would make
one think that because it's a darker shade
that it's gonna have, I, uh, am here. That's exactly
right. It's gonna have more
(24:48):
body or strength or what have you, I felt
like this was more of, like, the dessert
spectrum m of Maduro. It does have that
depth of flavor profile.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (24:59):
Yeah.
>> Good ol’ Boy Benjamin (24:59):
I thought that the strength of the cigar was very
medium, um, very approachable.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (25:04):
So it's like having Kevin Westbrook. I'm not gonna hit you.
>> Good ol’ Boy Benjamin (25:07):
And, and the Connecticut, for me had a bit more
body.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: Yeah, right.
It had a bit more strength to it, which I think is also.
It's just that juxtaposition. So shade versus
strength.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: I wonder if they're trying to teach us a lesson about the branding
and the band and the color.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (25:23):
Don't judge. So some of their other
brands are kind of simplistic as well, like the Buffalo ten, like we talked
about. The paper boy.
>> (25:29):
Yeah.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (25:30):
Like those. Those kind of our simplistic bands,
but the. Their whole packaging and
motif is what they go for with that. So those comes in
five packs, you know, that are.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: Yeah.
Brown paper wrapped and. Yeah, you don't really see what's in it. And
so it's. It's. It's definitely
interesting what you. I agree with what you're saying, and I think.
>> Good ol’ Boy Benjamin (25:48):
I think the other thing that rich is trying to get to is that
don't judge a cigar by its wrapper.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (25:53):
No, absolutely. Absolutely.
>> Good ol’ Boy Benjamin (25:55):
Just. Just because you maybe a
boulder, full strength,
full, deeper flavor smoker doesn't
mean that there's not a Connecticut out there.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (26:05):
Sure.
>> (26:06):
I'll smoke half of this stick and then walk back in and say, can
I have another midnight instead?
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (26:11):
Yeah, for sure.
All right, well, let's give it a rating, fellas. What do we got? Uh, that's
going to be a five across the board.
>> Good ol’ Boy Benjamin (26:19):
I think you need to work on how averages happen.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (26:23):
What do you mean? It was.
>> (26:24):
You have to look beyond your own hand, Barker.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (26:26):
It's majority rules.
>> Good ol’ Boy Benjamin (26:29):
Okay.
>> (26:29):
It's all right.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (26:30):
Uh, it was two to one, for sure.
>> (26:33):
It's all right.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (26:34):
Yeah. Anyway, good. Uh, old
boy Barker is gonna have the, uh, polita. Yeah.
Speaking of myself, in the third person, I'm
gonna talk about the polita, the 60th
anniversario, uh, series.
In 1956, a humble cigar roller in the
Dominican Republic, Ramon polita
Rodriguez, established
(26:56):
tabacalera el artista.
Beginning with a single blend and a dream to build a factory,
Don Pulita launched a legend.
In 2016, we revisited
the original blend that made Don Pulita famous. Sparing
no expense, we sought out the original tobaccos
for a true vintage smoking experience.
(27:17):
We developed a true to the original blend of
six exceptional tobaccos, including tobacco
grown in the aged by our own skilled craftsmen. For
an unmatched smoking experience. The
polita 60th anniversario features a rare
negrito wrapper with a velvety,
smooth dominican cacao finish.
(27:39):
So on. Um, that I got a wrapper of a rare
dominican negrito. I got a binder of dominican
criollo, 98
criolo, and a filler
of nicaraguan, dominican, colombian, and a USA
blend.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: So. So this is the one where they went
out to recreate the
original blend.
(28:00):
Yeah.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: Yes, but they didn't. They didn't use the
original, uh, tobaccos. They just were
going.
>> (28:05):
Original branding? Uh, I think.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: Yeah, yeah, but they were. But they were looking for the
flavor. Right.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (28:11):
So, basically, to my understanding, and I could be wrong, and
if I'm wrong, then just tell us in the comments. Um,
what, what happened was they probably had some of the
older stuff still available, right?
Ah. Or some of the older already rolled cigars,
maybe still hiding. And they smoke them and say,
well, we want something like this.
>> Good ol’ Boy Benjamin (28:31):
They were just saving them. They're not hiding.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (28:32):
Sure.
>> Good ol’ Boy Benjamin (28:33):
I had this conversation with someone. I was at an event today, and they were talking
about, how do you have some of those super
secret special releases in the back? Or, like,
did this come out of a special barrel that somebody forgot? Like,
nobody forgot about the barrel. Nobody. Nobody forgot about these
cigars, man. They just been saving them.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (28:49):
Yeah, the federal government won't let us forget.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: Yeah.
Uh, we know it's there. We pay taxes on it.
>> Good ol’ Boy Benjamin (28:54):
That's exactly right.
>> (28:54):
Right.
>> Good ol’ Boy Benjamin (28:55):
Dude, that was my. So I said, you, you don't forget things that you pay taxes
on. Yeah.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (28:59):
Yeah, that's right.
>> (29:00):
I don't think I've walked into a cigar shop and go, hey, man,
what do you got in the back?
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (29:07):
Everywhere I go, uh, just to see people's faces.
>> (29:10):
You got some bland.
>> Good ol’ Boy Benjamin (29:13):
The best french truck all the way here.
>> (29:14):
That's where we got any cigars from.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: 60 years, where we keep the swish or sweet.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (29:19):
Where's happy at? Over there.
So I. You, uh, know,
this is my favorite cigar of the.
Of the.
>> (29:29):
Are you guys keeping track?
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (29:30):
That's his third.
>> (29:31):
That's his third favorite.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: Yeah.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (29:32):
Okay. That's not my third favorite.
>> (29:34):
I just want to make sure that.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: I was keeping best friends. He has.
Yeah.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (29:37):
You know all of them.
Yeah. You're welcome.
>> Good ol’ Boy Benjamin (29:41):
Such a sweet man barter, man.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (29:43):
I'm telling you, I have smoked this
cigar in the morning, I've smoked a cigar in the
evening, and it's supper.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: Time, and he's done it in the shower.
That's right. Uh, if I could have a shower cigar on a
train.
>> (29:56):
He does it with a house. He does it in a mouth.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (29:58):
That's right. That's right. That's right.
I do care. That's right. But I, uh,
mean, what, you guys are gonna, you know,
laugh at me? So what do you guys think?
>> (30:10):
I wouldn't do that. I would not laugh at you here or
there. I would not laugh with you anywhere.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: Now laughing at you.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (30:17):
Yes, for sure.
>> (30:18):
Sure. So what do you think, rich?
Fire away, buddy.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: Yeah. It's a good cigar. I mean, you know, what can you say?
It's. It's a solid smoke all the way
through. I didn't have any problems with it.
So that's all I got,
uh, you.
>> Good ol’ Boy Benjamin (30:34):
Know, I would have been. I would have liked to have the opportunity to,
like, smoke an original. Right?
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (30:40):
Yeah. Uh, right.
>> Good ol’ Boy Benjamin (30:40):
Just for conversation sake, just.
I've gotten to taste, um, rim send us some,
some point in my life, like some older whiskeys
and stuff like that. Right. And it's. It's that effect of
drinking in a time machine. Right. Or getting to experience in something
in a time machine. And so to, to be able
to know what they were shooting
(31:01):
for versus what this, you know, new product was,
this anniversary edition was, I think would be super
cool.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: Yeah.
You know, this is something I would, I would buy again. Right. I would keep a
couple in the humidor because I enjoyed it. It
did, uh, have a little bit of, like, nice, ah, spice
to it, some. Some cool, like, toasty hay notes, a little bit of that, like
that nice kind of classic leather. Um,
(31:22):
but it, you know.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (31:26):
It would.
>> Good ol’ Boy Benjamin (31:26):
It would also have to be at the right price point for me, like
anniversary edition. As long as it's not, I
mean, they're crazy out of its price point.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (31:33):
Price point on these are under $15.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: Yeah, well, and like you said, how do you know it
tastes like the original if you haven't had one?
>> Good ol’ Boy Benjamin (31:41):
Marketing works.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (31:42):
I mean, you know, they'll send us some original.
I got a best friend somewhere.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: No, it's good, though.
>> (31:48):
Yeah. You know, I think that's always the difficulty, uh,
when you're choosing to show homage to a
past element of, of something
that if people don't have that frame
of reference to know what things taste, you know, what that was
like before, you know,
uh, I just. They could have said, well, this
(32:08):
wasn't really about anniversary. And I think the way they kind of
spun it up was that, you know, they
were saying that they were trying to, you know,
strike gold, you know, once again. So let's read it
after we come back.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: Well, and I just. Yeah, and it's, it's, it's. Well, never
mind.
Hey, welcome back to Sip Suds and smokes. Today
(32:29):
on our Smokes episode, we are going over a product line
from Artista cigars.
Artista, previously known as
El Artist Artista. So, uh, we're going
through a series of cigars, and we were in the middle of
discussion for the artista
pulito, 60th
anniversario. And,
um, I was going to talk, uh, about a little
(32:51):
of, um, my notes, uh, about this particular
cigar. I wrote down really good, great, uh,
balance, kind of touch, ah, of spice, and
there's kind of a bit of cement you know, in the middle of this
that, uh, I kind of picked up probably on the retrohill. I know
myself.
>> Good ol’ Boy Benjamin (33:07):
Definitely some herbaceous vibes.
>> (33:09):
Yeah. Um, kind of a fair finish to this.
So I thought it was kind of good and
average. Once again, I, you know,
I. Going back to our, you know, our discussion, I
really wish that I'd had that compare and contrast
moment. I, um, was just kind of judging the cigar
for what it is, not. How well did they strike
gold and reproduce something that they had done in the past?
(33:31):
And so, for all I know, this was, you
know, uh, ten times better than the original. Well,
I know. Or they may have completely missed the mark, and
it was ten times worse.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: And my point I was trying to make earlier was, you know,
what. How's the taste of a smoker changed
over the years? What were they smoking back then? Was it as
complex as we're smoking today? I don't know. I mean.
(33:53):
Yeah.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: Or is it. Or is it more complex? Was it better? I don't
know.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (33:58):
Yeah. Uh, there's really no telling. I mean, unless
you've got a vault.
>> (34:02):
With a, uh, lot more chemicals that you don't want to know.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (34:05):
Yeah. A lot more Agent Orange in there,
maybe. You know, who knows?
>> Good ol’ Boy Benjamin (34:09):
That would. That would be a fun episode to get into. Would be like
the farming practices or something like that, because
we've drawn the lines for, like, vintage
whiskey versus, uh, new age whiskey. And we know that those
have completely commercialized vintage cigar. Right.
So everything that you ever see about
cigars is. It's still hand
(34:30):
picked, hand grown, like from. From
seed to sprout to full grown plant.
These things are cultivated by hand.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (34:38):
So I think that the practices have not
changed. The production
facilities have changed.
Well, for the most part, they have in the
aging process, which a
lot of the tobaccos that are grown and age now.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: But as the world gets smaller, though, you're also able to
pull, uh, tobaccos from different parts of the world and blend them.
>> (35:01):
And fermentation process is definitely.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (35:03):
Yeah. Yeah. This flat earth gets pretty big.
>> (35:06):
I would say that they're definitely using, you know, the use of
herbicide and pesticides has dramatically changed
and altered in a. In a broad range
of, you know, agricultural products. But,
you know, I'm thinking of the two things that are side by side, you
know, in the Dominican Republic, which are,
uh, coffee and tobacco are going to have
(35:27):
a very shared space, you know, together.
And there are more pesticides that are used on
coffee than any other agricultural product.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (35:35):
Yeah.
>> (35:35):
I mean, you know, I. If you've
listened to any of our copy episodes. I've warned you. I've told
you. Listen, if you're not staring at the one that says
organic on it, you know, you are
kind of rolling the dice, you know, about exactly what you're getting. At
the end of the day, a lot of that stuff is washed off. I mean,
when you really kind of look at what is a coffee bean, at the end of
(35:56):
the day, it's a fruit, it's a cherry. You
know, there's a bean inside of it that's been protected from a
lot of those elements that, uh, actually have not leached
on it directly. Plus, you know, you look at the
finishing process for beans, where it's washed, there's a ton of
water that's gone over it, which could be also full of
pesticides as well, you know. Um,
but, you know, tobacco, uh, you know,
(36:18):
has gone through some of the changes, you know, in cultivation as well, and
the use of, you know, both herbicides and pesticides
as well. Even the way in which, you know,
coffee or not coffee, but
tobacco varieties are actually managed. Now, I think
to your point, rich, which is tobacco was
a very locally produced, locally grown,
(36:38):
locally, you know, consumed product because
it was not shipped all over the place. And it wasn't
really until a lot of colonial
pirates, pirates.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: Pirates.
Until a lot of, uh, you know, colonists from
the old really, uh, occurred where, you know,
that tobacco was actually moving, you know, across
any large body of water or landmass. And so
(37:00):
today it's just all a matter of, you know,
a cargo container and, you know, dropping stuff on a pallet and
away you go, you know. So,
um, you know, I, um. Again,
I, uh, thought this was a good cigar. It was just a good
average, you know, product. Uh, at the end of the day,
I was waiting for some wow bang thing to happen, you
(37:21):
know, Don Palito. I mean,
super famous. But, you know, I didn't get the. There were no
laser show or fireworks shooting out of this thing, so.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (37:29):
Well, there were on my.
>> Good ol’ Boy Benjamin (37:30):
You had to pay for premium for that.
>> (37:32):
And I hated the banning on this.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: It was so plain.
Sorry.
Little bit about.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (37:42):
I will say this. Um, you know, the
banding on this is pretty basic as well. And
for when I first got these, I was like, I don't know
if I'm gonna like that. Okay, whatever. And then
I actually got a hold of one of the boxes.
And the box is beautiful.
The box is absolutely beautiful for the cigar.
The banding is basic. But again,
(38:04):
to Benjamin's point, they're keeping
costs down to keep the consumer cost down
by, by doing things like that. And it really
shows. And, but the, the product speaks for itself,
in my opinion.
>> Good ol’ Boy Benjamin (38:17):
I think the other thing, too is, you know, it, it's, it's
not, it's not basic. I think it's classic.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (38:22):
Yeah, sure.
>> Good ol’ Boy Benjamin (38:23):
And I think there's a big difference there, especially if you're looking at the
box like, like, this is a pretty classic
example of a cigar box. And if you're doing something
that's a 60th anniversary. Right.
It's not going to be the WWE championship
belt that a lot of, you know, brands and
manufacturers want to slap over three quarters of
a cigar before you, you know, try to figure out how you're going to get the thing
(38:45):
off, you know, and, and light and actually enjoy
the stick.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (38:49):
You know, I've actually held that belt in my hands.
>> Good ol’ Boy Benjamin (38:51):
I don't doubt that, bro.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (38:53):
Yeah, I don't doubt that that belt.
>> Good ol’ Boy Benjamin (38:54):
Is heavy as crap, but,
yeah, I think this is a really, when I think of a box
of cigars, this is what I think of really
100% and pretty, uh, pretty classic wooden
box. Um, you know, has
the, you know.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (39:10):
Yeah.
>> Good ol’ Boy Benjamin (39:10):
Palm trees and, uh, you know, doctor,
it's brandy.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (39:14):
Yeah, it's a very, it's a very vintage
style box. Yeah, classic. Very
classic. Oh, like, very, uh, man,
the. And when you open it up, there's, there's stuff on the
inside of the box that's just beautiful as well.
>> Good ol’ Boy Benjamin (39:27):
The cigars. What?
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (39:29):
Well, the cigars. And there's a little mural or whatever.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: So like a fold out.
>> (39:33):
Well, pop up cigar. Let's rate this up.
And stop looking at your own hand first.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (39:38):
I'm not. We're gonna give it, we're gonna give it a
three.
>> (39:42):
Some semblance.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (39:45):
Majority rules.
>> (39:46):
I would had a quick story here about, uh,
so I was trying to find some sound effects for us to use during
this episode.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (39:52):
Oh, lord.
>> (39:54):
And I was, you know, it's interesting when you sit
down and you're like, well, I want someone to welcome me
to Dominican.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (40:00):
Roman, you gotta stop getting your sound effects off adult
websites.
>> (40:04):
And, uh, yeah. Um,
so, uh, then you run into people that are teaching you,
like, slang words and teaching you how to cuss.
And I'm telling you, the doctor, there are
a lot of people very passionate about cussing, you know, really
well, you know, in Dominican. And,
um, so the art, uh, yeah,
but I ran across this, uh, one as, uh, one person,
(40:26):
and it was talking about elements of dialect and, you know,
if you're listening to me at any point in time, you're like, wow, that's a
really good fake british accent, Mike.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (40:34):
Yeah, that's exactly what they're thinking.
>> (40:36):
Exactly what you're thinking, right? And so. So
this guy was actually talking about tone, and I love
this conversation, the tone.
>> Good ol’ Boy Benjamin (40:44):
So you want to make your
last.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (40:48):
Your second to last syllable of, like.
>> Good ol’ Boy Benjamin (40:50):
Whatever kind of phrase you're saying.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (40:53):
You want to make that kind of elongated,
that kind of tone. Okay.
>> Good ol’ Boy Benjamin (41:02):
Not every single person talks like that, and they don't.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (41:04):
Doing every single sentence. But you will notice
listening to them speak, that. That's a way that they will
talk. What. What's so funny about that
is me, my Kevin
Newman. Every time I get around Kevin, he's,
you know, he talks a little bit of Spanish, too. And
it's funny because I'll start saying something. He'll be like, that's. That's.
(41:24):
That's dumb. Um, don't say, that's
not how they talk. But they should correct me. And I'll be like,
oh, can we.
>> (41:31):
Just apply it to English? Like, binge on
bargain?
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (41:36):
Yeah, that's right.
>> (41:38):
You know, I wouldn't even call that long tone. I just call that dragging the
middle.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (41:42):
Yeah.
>> (41:42):
What I want to call it.
Tell us about an exigot.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (41:45):
Okay, I got you. So this
is actually a surprise addition to the.
>> (41:50):
Oh, I'm doing this.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (41:52):
Yeah, this is a surprise edition. So
I kind of give this one to these guys today, and,
uh, they, or I, uh, gave it to Mike a couple days ago,
and Benjamin got it today, and
me and Rich had one at the PCA, so they
are fantastic. And Mike's going to tell you about artista
Faloo.
>> (42:10):
Yes. Artista's cigar faloo. The
faloo is a novel approach to blending
tobaccos, representing years
of sourcing and development to bring you
our best work yet. Artista
Faloo is so named for the red barns of
northern Europe. Europe and the United States stand out
in rich contrast to their pastoral
(42:31):
soundings. I have, like, this, you know, flute
in my head as this thing is playing in the background, waiting
for Bami to get her brains blown out. Anyway, so
Faloo features a toothy and rich
broadleaf wrapper sourced from generations
old family farm. For the binder, we selected an
indonesian leaf, which adds a. To, uh,
(42:52):
a touch of sweetness with the filler blend that
balances flavor and strength. Those binder,
filler, and wrapper are. The binder is
indonesian sumatra. Again, the filler is
dominican proprietary blend.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (43:04):
Proprietary.
>> (43:05):
We can't tell you what it is, man.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: Secret sauce.
Uh, roll broadleaf.
So, um. Yeah, kind of interesting. Um,
I actually smoked this right before we recorded today.
And, um. Yeah, that the
branding on this has a red stripe
on the band itself. So, you know, it's pretty
evident that.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (43:25):
The harvest is yellow right off.
Red.
>> (43:28):
Yeah. So I had, uh,
several construction issues that happened with this, you know.
Of course, it kept on canoeing on me. You know, I
kept on having to check the burn line quite, uh,
a bit. And then Barger said, you're smoking it too fast.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (43:43):
No, you're smoking it like a high schooler.
>> (43:47):
Because then I said, well, it went out twice on me. And I
was sitting there having to screw around with it. He's like, you're smoking it
too slow, too fast. I think I know exactly
the pace, how he should smoke and
can't do.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: Anything right for you, can I?
Yeah, you know, it's like, seriously, can you hold up cue
cards for me? I don't know if I can do this on my own
accord, the way you're breathing. Is there a video I can
(44:10):
watch? I'm learning how to do this, you know, at this point in time
in my life. Life. So, um, maybe I need
to go back and listen to our own cigar 101
show.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (44:19):
I could teach you a thing or two if you listen.
>> (44:21):
Yeah. Um, you know, the. I don't know.
It just was very nondescript. Uh, you
know, at the end of the day, I was like, oh. Um, you know, I was like,
wow. You know, um, what's next?
>> Good ol’ Boy Benjamin (44:32):
So a lot of those construction issues that you
talk about. And I don't know if it's just my luck, right,
or the myriad of other things that it could be, but
it's probably not because I'm
pretty keen about cigar storage and
lighting. And, you know, I think I
have a pretty solid pace.
>> (44:52):
But you were not getting coaching from.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (44:54):
Barker in real time. You did.
>> Good ol’ Boy Benjamin (44:58):
Um, but I have that issue with box press cigars
on a pretty consistent basis. And it's one of the
top reasons that they're not my favorite type, uh,
of cigar vitolo cigar to smoke is
because, number one, I think that they feel a little odd
to actually smoke. Right. They don't.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (45:15):
You like them round in your mouth?
>> Good ol’ Boy Benjamin (45:16):
Hundred percent. Right. Uh, but then also,
too, I tend to have the canoeing issues,
uh, on a pretty consistent basis, so.
>> (45:25):
See?
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (45:25):
So I'll see. Look, I'm just gonna say this
on a box press cigar.
I consistently,
every draw all rotated in my
hand. And
I it's very rare that I have
a canoeing issue on a box press cigar.
>> Good ol’ Boy Benjamin (45:46):
They should put those type of instructions in the box.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (45:49):
But I understand too much work. Yeah, but trying to enjoy
myself. If it's a subconscious thing, like, oh, the band's facing up. Uh,
let's turn it around. The bands facing down. Let's turn it
around, like, in my brain. So, like, I
consistently keep my hotspot moving
because, yes, if, uh, and this is just me
and, uh, it's not science, it's pseudoscience
science, but this is, uh. I mean, this is just
(46:12):
the way that my brain works.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: You only believe.
>> Good ol’ Boy Benjamin (46:14):
I think the person that made the cigar that you're smoking is cringing
right now.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (46:18):
Hang on a second. That's fine.
>> (46:19):
I really have to pick up my hip waiters. It's just getting
so deep and thick.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (46:23):
I'm just saying there's heat distribution across,
uh, a square is way different than heat
distribution across the circle. That's science.
So at the same time, like, there are things you
can do to stop and prevent these, only you can prevent
canoeing.
>> (46:38):
Circle, meet the square.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (46:40):
That's right.
>> (46:41):
If I had a square mouth, it's
where.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (46:45):
That's right.
Think about it. When a cigar canoes on you, what do you
do? You lick your finger and you put it on the cigar. If it's a round
cigar, you lick your finger, you put it on the cigar, and you keep smelling smoking.
Right.
>> (46:57):
I burn it even. I, uh, keep on
moving.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (47:01):
And that's fine. And that's fine. But there are things you can do
to prevent those things. Now, the speed in which you
smoke a cigar can prevent or
cause a canoeing issue.
>> (47:11):
Yes.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (47:11):
Can so and so at the same time,
if we're just out here, you know,
in just shooting the crap and hanging out,
and you're not paying attention to your cigar, and you're sitting here
puffing and puffing and puffing.
>> (47:23):
Negative.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (47:24):
Well, you might have a canoe. I didn't say you were doing
that.
>> Good ol’ Boy Benjamin (47:27):
You did.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (47:28):
Here, I said it. You just said it.
Outside in privacy.
>> (47:32):
Do you want me to run the tape back?
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (47:34):
Yeah, run the tape back. Yeah. So,
anyway, I I mean, I think.
>> Good ol’ Boy Benjamin (47:38):
There'S maybe one day we'll all ascend to the level of
cigar etiquette and, uh,
smoking techniques.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (47:44):
You get on board with these conspiracy theories, and then we'll
talk about it.
>> (47:48):
I, uh, had a couple more comments I forgot to add, which
was, yeah, I was kind of woody cedar,
mild, uh, uh, in the middle of it, I actually paired
this really well with the Delmore cigar.
Cigar malt. It was the perfect thing.
And actually tried a,
um, little book, chapter three,
uh, from beam. Uh, and it actually
(48:10):
did not work very well. So, um, well,
my, uh, that's.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (48:15):
That's a three.
>> (48:16):
All right.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (48:18):
I disagree with that, but, you know, it's okay. Can't win them
all.
>> (48:21):
Sorry. It's alright.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (48:23):
It's okay. And that's what we find out about on these episodes.
Not everyone wins. And we're not always the.
The right one in the room.
>> (48:32):
Uh, it was really cool to have the whole product line. And,
um, you know,
I would definitely go back for that. Midnight all day long.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (48:40):
Yeah, I will definitely revisit a lot of these cigars. What about
you guys?
>> Good ol’ Boy Benjamin (48:44):
Artista's in the wheelhouse.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: Yeah, sure. Absolutely. Solid. Smokes all the way around.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (48:49):
Well, listen, listen, you guys have been wonderful tonight. I
appreciate you. We have done three episodes.
>> (48:54):
You just called me wonderful.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: Did you catch?
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (48:56):
I did. It's fine. We can talk about.
Listen, we'll jump in the canoe when we get done. It's
fine.
>> (49:03):
Uh, too fast.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (49:04):
Too slow. That's right, that's right.
>> (49:05):
I have the wrong stroke.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (49:07):
Stroke, stroke, stroke.
I want to thank our guest for coming on today. Thank you.
Good old boy rich.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: Just glad to be here, coach.

>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (49:43):
It's left, it's left, right?
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: You got a jeer from the front.
