Speaker 2 (00:53):
That's pretty good?
Speaker 3 (00:54):
Congratulations one hundred. So uh, I guess I should pull
up my show notes so I know what we're talking
about today.
Speaker 2 (01:03):
Can you guys hear us okay?
Speaker 1 (01:05):
Because I hear a little bit of static and I'm
wondering if you guys can Are we okay?
Speaker 2 (01:11):
Or can you hear static? Susan, I know you're on
putting you.
Speaker 3 (01:16):
On the hot seat. How's that audio coming through?
Speaker 2 (01:23):
I don't know? Hopefully Okay.
Speaker 1 (01:27):
Anyways, today is our one hundredth episode. We're going to
continue going unless you guys tell us that that the
audio is bad. But yay.
Speaker 2 (01:37):
Comradulations to us, and you know what, we're.
Speaker 3 (01:42):
Having a little technical difficulty.
Speaker 1 (01:44):
But what Lupe, anyways, if we sound really bad, please
tell oh, okay, no static, Okay, that's cool, it's just
in our ears. Then I don't know what what the
issue is, but right on, right on, okay.
Speaker 2 (01:58):
So one hundredth episode. Are so excited, and we thought what.
Speaker 1 (02:05):
Better way to celebrate than to talk about doctor Chagrin.
Speaker 3 (02:11):
And Chogrin's Day. World Chogrin's Day is right around the corner,
so we're going to chat about him a little bit
as well.
Speaker 1 (02:19):
And our World Children's Day is on Friday, the twenty third,
and we're not we don't go live Fridays.
Speaker 2 (02:26):
But we thought today it would be perfect, so right on.
Speaker 3 (02:29):
That we did. We're also going to talk about the heat.
It's been hot here in southern California, very hot. Lupe
found a new pantalone to keep her cool.
Speaker 2 (02:39):
Pantalone. You know what a pantalone is?
Speaker 1 (02:41):
Actually, he meant to say pantalone is and it's actually pants.
Speaker 3 (02:46):
We ridiculing me for my Spanish.
Speaker 2 (02:49):
No, I'm proud of you. I'm proud of you. I'm
just correcting you. So so next time you say it.
Speaker 3 (02:54):
Right, I thought I was speaking French, so I'm learning something.
Speaker 2 (02:57):
Oh dear. So it was really hot over the weekend.
Speaker 1 (03:03):
Well, first of all, before we talk about the heat,
I want to say that on Sunday, right was Sunday.
On Sunday, I went live with arthritis dietitian Christina Montoya.
Christina is a fellow showgi and it was just nothing formal,
but I had a lot of fun. And actually, you
know what I've been thinking about, I probably want.
Speaker 3 (03:24):
To do that too, do Instagram lives?
Speaker 1 (03:27):
Yeah, but I think I said that last time I
went live too, and I never did it, but it's
something that I really really want to do.
Speaker 3 (03:34):
So anyway, she's going to be everywhere.
Speaker 1 (03:37):
So it was a really good conversation. And I'm talking
with my hands, but it was a really good conversation.
And actually, Brian, if you can rip the audio so
we can share it as a podcast.
Speaker 3 (03:49):
Yeah we can cool, So anyways we can do that.
Speaker 1 (03:55):
Moving on, it was I want to talk about the
heat because I had a really hard time over the
weekend because it was like eighty eight ninety and I
knew it was hot, and on Monday I woke up
and my face was really swollen. I looked like the
(04:15):
marshmallow man. Have you guys ever felt that way? I
woke up, I saw myself in the mirror and I
was like, oh my god, look.
Speaker 2 (04:21):
At my face. Looks like a marshmallow.
Speaker 3 (04:24):
It wasn't that bad.
Speaker 2 (04:25):
Yeah it was to me, it was. But anyways, we.
Speaker 1 (04:31):
Went to REI just to browse and I saw these
really cool pants and they were north Fayce and I
bought to and I've been wearing them except not today.
I didn't wear them, but those are good pants.
Speaker 3 (04:51):
Yeah, they were the what model was it?
Speaker 2 (04:54):
It was? It was north.
Speaker 3 (04:56):
Face like Appellation to point zero.
Speaker 2 (05:00):
Or no, it was an Appellationian.
Speaker 3 (05:02):
It was kind of cool because they kind of looked
like crinkled, like they're bunched up on the pants a
little bit on the pantalones.
Speaker 2 (05:09):
It was like north Face alfro dyed or something.
Speaker 3 (05:14):
That's what it was.
Speaker 2 (05:15):
They were very very comfy.
Speaker 1 (05:17):
I actually recommend those, and no this is not sponsored,
but they were really comfortable, and I actually I went
I went back to Arii online Amazon and I bought
every color because that's how I roll, That's how much.
Speaker 2 (05:31):
I like them. It's like, you're not even wearing anything.
They were really cool.
Speaker 3 (05:35):
So yeah, and it's a wicking material, really light airy.
They feel kind of cool. I think i'd look a
little silly. And because she got the capri once and
guys were capris. Yeah, I can't say I've ever worn
a capri. Who knows, I might like it. I should
try it.
Speaker 2 (05:56):
But anyways, what did I do.
Speaker 1 (05:57):
We kind of cleaned the house a little bit because
we were dragon sitting. We have a bearded dragon and we
were dragon sitting, and we decided that we were gonna
change the habitat a little bit.
Speaker 2 (06:12):
So we did that.
Speaker 3 (06:13):
Yeah, cleaned the house quite a bit when a this
was Sunday, Yeah, Sunday. But it's been warm, and you know,
we said last summer we don't have AC so it's
you know, we rely on fans. That new humidifier you have, though,
has the cool mist, so it's putting out that cool
mist which helps cool her down. I'm far enough away
(06:36):
where I don't get much much love from it, but.
Speaker 2 (06:39):
No, but it's like I'm in the clouds. It's really cool.
Speaker 3 (06:42):
I it was helpful for her, which was awesome, which
was awesome.
Speaker 1 (06:46):
Yeah, But what did I do to try to stay cool.
I kind of just lay there on the couch like this.
After I got really hot and exhausted. I drink a
lot of water, and when I'm dehydra I do get
a headache. So it was really hard. So I tried
sipping constantly and staying hydrated, but it was it was
(07:07):
tough for.
Speaker 2 (07:07):
Me this weekend.
Speaker 1 (07:09):
Yeah, so yeah, yeah, but but what should you guys
do to stay cool besides drinking water, besides resting.
Speaker 2 (07:19):
Go to the park, hit a.
Speaker 3 (07:21):
Local swimming pool, your local library, your mall, your local RII.
Speaker 2 (07:27):
It's a really good excuse to go shopping.
Speaker 3 (07:30):
So hit hit those large places where ac and you know,
that's one way to stay cool as well, especially in
the middle of the day, the heat of the day.
It's good to be somewhere. You know. Now that we
can go to movie theaters again, maybe hit a movie
theater and you know, spend an hour and a half,
two hours sitting there enjoying something that was produced in
(07:52):
the cool.
Speaker 2 (07:53):
Bring your own popcorn.
Speaker 1 (07:55):
This is expensive, you Yeah, So anyway, let's talk about.
Speaker 3 (08:03):
Doc Let's talk about doctor Chogrin. So Henrik Samuel Conrad
Chogrin born in eighteen ninety nine died seventeen September nineteen
eighty six. Swedish born went to school in Stockholm, graduated
with his medical degree in nineteen twenty seven. But he
(08:26):
is attributed to coining the term Chogrin's syndrome, having done
quite a bit of research onto it. And you have
something here in red world. Shogren's Day is obviously Friday,
July twenty third, if you're a member of the Chagrin's
Foundation here in the States. They put out a newsletter Monday,
I think it was, yes, talking a little bit about
(08:48):
it and how you know, this day's being used to
just recognize all the people that remained pretty well faceless,
you know, because it is that silent syndrome, if you will,
And are we are we changing from syndrome? Yes?
Speaker 1 (09:09):
Done, it's children's just children's syndrome. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,
but yeah, he he was the one that kind of
put all the symptoms together, right and.
Speaker 3 (09:24):
Yeah, so obviously named in his name, which is kind
of cool. And you know when we're talking about especially
nowadays with and I really don't want to get on
a COVID track, but all the new developments with medicine
and research and science, you know, they do help so
many people, and unfortunately, if you're living with conditions now,
(09:45):
you know, this research takes time, takes a lot of funding,
and takes a lot of time to make a lot
of breakthroughs to help the next generation of those who
follow in our footsteps.
Speaker 1 (09:57):
But it was thanks to him and h thanks to
him we are where we're at and thanks to the
Foundation and all the research that they do.
Speaker 2 (10:07):
So we really appreciate him that would do.
Speaker 3 (10:11):
So, how are you staying cool in the office, because
your office doesn't have AC does it?
Speaker 1 (10:18):
Actually my office does have a C but it has
to be really hot for them to turn it on.
So I have a really small fan, like really tiny
that I bought at Walmart for five dollars, and that's
how I stay cool. So I have my fan and
my personal humidifire, you know, together, and that's kind of
(10:39):
how I stay cool.
Speaker 2 (10:40):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (10:41):
I took a paper towel and put water on it,
put it on her forehead one night because she was
so hot.
Speaker 2 (10:47):
Oh over the weekend.
Speaker 1 (10:49):
Yeah yeah, yeah, it was really hot. I couldn't cool down.
I just couldn't cool down. I pulled off my clothes
and it was tough. But yeah, you took care of me.
Appreciate that.
Speaker 3 (10:59):
Wasn't going down that road for that. But and and
one other thing we've talked about before is the types
of clothing you wear. Obviously you want to stay away
from denim cottons, get into you know, more athletic wear
that's thin, light, breathable, and most importantly wicking. So if
you are able to sweat that, you know, moisture is
being pulled from your body, helping you cool as well.
Speaker 1 (11:21):
The I have a lot of clothes. We've talked about
this before, but I have a lot of clothes that's wicking.
And it's again not sponsored, but I have a lot
of Columbia shirts and pants and I've never had a
north face and these pants were really cool.
Speaker 2 (11:38):
They kid me really really cool.
Speaker 1 (11:40):
So again I'm waiting for them to arrive in every
color and I'm gonna I'm going to live in them.
Speaker 3 (11:46):
And it sucks. I'm a pretty frugal guy and I
don't like to spend a lot of money on clothing.
You know. I don't wear LEVI I I don't know,
that's just me. But when it comes to my hiking gear,
it's my boots are higher end my pants, my shirts,
(12:07):
because when you're out there like that, you need those
high tech fabrics to help you stay comfortable, help you
stay cool, help you perform better, or in my case,
perform at all. But just because it's meant for hiking
or outdoor activities doesn't mean you can't wear them on
a normal hot day. There's a lot of brands now
(12:30):
that have clothing that looks good in an office environment,
especially if it's business casual. So don't discard that type
of clothing because it will help you stay cool and comfortable.
Speaker 2 (12:46):
And I'm lucky that I work in a really casual environment.
We could wear anything we want. Shorts.
Speaker 1 (12:55):
What's that guy with the headband that exercises that he
was really short.
Speaker 3 (12:59):
Shorts, jack u Laine.
Speaker 1 (13:00):
That was what was his name, the Curdi hair, I
forget his name.
Speaker 2 (13:07):
With those with those.
Speaker 1 (13:08):
Shorts, there's some there's some guys that are going wearing
those shorts, which I think is really funny. But whatever,
whatever keeps you cool, right, that's what it's all about.
So I'm lucky I could wear whatever I want, you know, jeans, capris,
I don't have to dress it up, So I'm glad
about that.
Speaker 3 (13:26):
That's that's fortunate.
Speaker 2 (13:29):
It really is.
Speaker 3 (13:33):
So in the office you have ac but they only
turn it on when it's really hot. You have a fan,
are you obviously hitting the water bottle quite a bit?
Speaker 2 (13:43):
Hitting the water bottle. This is like my third one. Today.
Speaker 1 (13:47):
I was really bad because I needed to leave the
office for something and Starbucks was in the on my
way back to the office, and I actually went to Starbucks,
which I kind of regret because I do believe because
I flared a little bit over the weekend because of
the heat. And I think it had a lot to
do with sugar, right, because I had a little bit
(14:07):
of candy, and I also had a Starbucks and that
has a lot of sugar and I know better, but
it has cracking it or something Starbucks does.
Speaker 3 (14:17):
No, there's no crack in Starbucks.
Speaker 2 (14:20):
But then how come mom addicted?
Speaker 3 (14:21):
Because that's the caffeine.
Speaker 2 (14:23):
I don't it's tea.
Speaker 3 (14:25):
There's caffeine and some tea's.
Speaker 1 (14:28):
It could be the caffeine actually, because actually why I went,
it's because I started feeling a headache coming on and
I thought, well, I'm drinking water, what is it? Well,
I have to wead myself off of that so.
Speaker 3 (14:39):
Yeah, and real quick, I had a really cool idea
and now nothing's working. Obviously we're having issues with tech today,
but I want to talk about the audio only version
of this. If you're watching on Facebook or YouTube, or
consume the contents on other platforms other than a podcast.
If you have a smartphone, you have a podcast player
(15:01):
installed by default, even Android now I believe is coming
with Google Podcasts. There are other podcast players on the market.
If you go to your app store and search podcast,
you'll find tons on the iPhone. I use Apples podcast Player, however,
(15:21):
but I have Wow however, but I have redundancy tonight.
I have a few other podcast players on it as well,
because I like to sample and as they upgrade and
do different things, I like to be able to understand
to explain it to other people. And Android Google podcast
is actually really good. They put out a really good
(15:43):
product for consuming podcasts. But there's podcast Addict and pocket
cast and a it's free, no cost. You can download
one of these apps onto your smartphone. If you do
not have a smartphone, you can also consume this content
on a PC or Mac in the Apple Store and
(16:04):
or go to Google Podcasts and you can listen. Back
in the day before there were any listening devices, we
had this piece of software that would go look for
this stuff in the middle of the night and download
it when no one was using a computer because it
was very really slow connections back then. And then it
got into the what's the Apple iPods? And then Microsoft
(16:29):
came out with a Zoom And I don't know why
I'm getting this deep into podcasting, how I love it. However,
you can subscribe and listen to a lot of content
for free. Now there are some paid platforms coming out
to where some podcasters have you subscribe and pay a
monthly or an annual fee to get the content. But
(16:52):
there are hundreds of thousands of podcasts that are free
and there's a lot of great content being created. So
if you would like to take Sugar and Strong, if
you'd like a little loope in your pocket, no shoot,
you can subscribe on a podcast player and take it
with you. I listen to podcasts in the morning when
I'm in the shower. I plug my phone into a
(17:13):
larger speaker while I'm driving to work, driving home. When
do you consume?
Speaker 1 (17:18):
Oh, when I'm at work, she's got an Earbut yeah.
Speaker 2 (17:23):
I'm a computer.
Speaker 1 (17:23):
If I'm working on something that doesn't really require me
to think or you know, I don't know concentrate. I
actually it's in my ear so or on my way
to work, but my drive is not that long anymore.
It's only about three minutes. So yeah, no, I don't
even do it on.
Speaker 2 (17:41):
But like if I'm going to the store or but yeah,
really at work.
Speaker 3 (17:45):
Yeah I wish I could. It's hard to do my job.
I work in audio, so it's hard to work in
audio and listen to audio other than that which I'm
working on. So and you know, I have a short
commute as well, opposite direction of Lupe here. But yeah,
it's I'm lucky to get ten minutes in during a commute.
(18:07):
But we want to tell you this just in case
you can't tune in while we're live on Facebook and
you don't want to go back and watch the Facebook
or YouTube video. Now that we're actually on screen and
it's not just the cover art like the old days,
remember that.
Speaker 2 (18:22):
I do remember it still people listen.
Speaker 3 (18:25):
People subscribed today, and I guess they're doing other things.
They're starting the video and working on other things as well.
And that's the beauty about podcasting. You can listen while
you do the dishes, mow the lawn, you can do
other things while you're consuming it. But if we're not
live on video, we might be live on audio. So
(18:46):
to listen to the audio live, you have to have
the speaker app, which is where the audio is being
broadcast live. However, when it ends, it rolls over into
a podcast, so you can catch it on any podcast
player within a couple hours or you know, best case scenario,
Thursday morning on your drive to work.
Speaker 1 (19:05):
So I have a question speaking of that for those
of you who are watching live or have watch live
or will watch live. Are you enjoying Facebook Live? Do
you like us on video? Or I mean, is that better?
Speaker 3 (19:23):
Or how are you consuming? Right now? We have people
on Facebook, we have people on YouTube watching live. I
don't know how many people are listening live. That data
is a little slow to roll in. However, how do
you like to consume? Do you like looking at this mug?
Speaker 2 (19:41):
Do you like us live? Is this something that we
should continue?
Speaker 1 (19:46):
Let us know because we've just been wondering because we
know that most people consume via podcast like the following morning.
Speaker 2 (19:53):
But I don't know.
Speaker 1 (19:54):
I just I want to know. Maggie said, love love
the Live. Thanks Maggie, Thanks Susan, Thanks everybody who's watching.
Speaker 2 (20:04):
I appreciate that.
Speaker 1 (20:05):
I just want to feedback because I find myself why
I'm asking is because I know that before, when when
I was just doing audio, I was really open about everything,
and I find myself that now that I'm doing live,
I'm kind of being more reserved and I'm holding stuff
back and I just want to let it all out.
Speaker 2 (20:26):
So I'm just wondering if you guys are enjoying it.
Speaker 1 (20:29):
I really would like to know, because I have thought
about maybe we should just go back to audio, you know,
so I could really really be myself. But I just
really really need to feel comfortable with being live.
Speaker 2 (20:40):
I think that's what it is.
Speaker 3 (20:41):
She's slowly breaking out of that shell.
Speaker 2 (20:45):
Yes, yes, And.
Speaker 3 (20:49):
On that note, we've been working hard at lining some
things up for content on the show. You know, the
shows kind of went from interviews and more bullet points
and how to to interjecting a little more of us
and you know what we're doing through the week and
how we're dealing with chogrins throughout the week. Also, let
(21:11):
us know what kind of content you like. You know,
we have access to some awesome people with some awesome stories,
and you know, we also enjoy this part about it too,
just kind of bantering. Nice to have bullet points.
Speaker 1 (21:27):
Well we do, but we also enjoy you know, back
and forth with with whoever's watching. So you know, we
we do like reading your comments and your feedback, and
we do. I already have a few people lined up
that I want to bring on the show, but I
don't know how that's gonna work live.
Speaker 2 (21:48):
We can still do it.
Speaker 3 (21:49):
We can bring them in remote, or they can join
us here in the studio.
Speaker 2 (21:52):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (21:52):
A lot of people have reached out they want to
be on the show just you know, to talk about
their experience or you know, professionals and so I you know,
I just want to feedback from you guys.
Speaker 2 (22:04):
If if you're enjoying it.
Speaker 3 (22:06):
Really let us know.
Speaker 2 (22:09):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (22:10):
So for the weekend, plans to be a plans.
Speaker 2 (22:13):
It's probably gonna be another hot one, so probably not.
Speaker 3 (22:16):
Yeah, yeah, Yeah, we need to get on our bikes
again and do an early morning ride before that blister
in the sky pops.
Speaker 1 (22:23):
Yeah, and I want to put it out there that
the walk for Chogren So the California Walk for Shogrons
is coming up pretty soon.
Speaker 2 (22:30):
It'll be here in no time.
Speaker 1 (22:32):
So I just want to put it out there for
you guys start thinking about it, because, uh, we're going
to be promoting it that.
Speaker 3 (22:39):
We are, and we're going to be raising funds with
it as well. So don't get upset. We're going to
be asking you to part with that hard earned dollar.
But it helps all of us and it does.
Speaker 1 (22:52):
Remember last year we were five dollars short ourgo.
Speaker 2 (22:56):
It was five dollars. It was so funny.
Speaker 1 (22:58):
So hopefully, I mean's hopefully this year will we'll meet
our goal.
Speaker 3 (23:04):
And every year we've increased our goal, so we'll do
that again. You know, it's been tough. I work with
another nonprofit in addition to what little I do with
the Foundation, but it's been a tough year for nonprofits
to raise money. I mean, thousands of people are out
of work and uncertain about life and living and it's
(23:26):
just it's been a crazy year. I don't know of
one that went, yeah, we rocked it this year.
Speaker 2 (23:33):
Yeah, Yeah, it was tough.
Speaker 3 (23:35):
So it was tough. I mean even the Red Cross
is hurting for blood. People aren't even donating blood. So
it's been it's been a tough year.
Speaker 2 (23:44):
Yeah, So.
Speaker 1 (23:48):
Whatever you guys would like us to talk about, please
send us messages and we're going to start talking about it.
Because we start talking, we need to start talking more
about issues and stuff like that.
Speaker 3 (24:00):
So yeah, and you know what, this would be interesting
if you're listening to this, hit us up in a
private message or something if you use clubhouse, because if
you use Clubhouse, we can do an interactive show every
once in a while where people can come up on
(24:21):
stage and verbally audio only be part of the show.
That might be kind of fun.
Speaker 2 (24:27):
Yeah, it would be, it would be It would be cool.
Speaker 1 (24:29):
And you know what, this is a good question, Maggie,
she asked, And I've thought about this also, she's asking,
and Susan might know. Ah, Susan just responded, can we
donate blood if we have cholgrins? And Susan, I was
gonna put you on the spot and you already responded
with yes, So thank you for that. And on that note, Susan,
(24:51):
do you know if we could donate our organs if
something happens to us if we have chogrins, Because I've
been thinking about that too, so you.
Speaker 3 (25:00):
Actually can and this is the crazy thing we knew.
Donate your Okay, let me back up. If you donate
whole body, a lot of those bodies actually go to
medical schools, okay for you know, training up and coming doctors.
(25:22):
My father, when he passed of cancer, he donated his
whole body, and we were notified that he was being
utilized in an educational setting. And strangely enough, my sister
about a year later, was taking anatomy. Of course, she's
a nurse, and they asked if anybody has had a
(25:45):
loved one, family or friend who's passed in the last
X amount of years, and they had to do some
special paperwork to make sure that she didn't get to
see dad again in class, which obviously wouldn't bode well
for men. Yeah, but you can't. As far as organs,
that's a great question. We're gonna have to find out.
Speaker 1 (26:05):
Well, let's see, Maggie and Susan, they're both organ donors,
and I'm registered to as an organ donor. But I'm like,
I wonder if they could really do something with our organs,
since you know, we have chagrins.
Speaker 2 (26:16):
But no, it's interesting that.
Speaker 3 (26:20):
I don't know, and again there's always the there's always
the educational portion, which which is good, you know, training,
training the up and coming docs is a good thing.
Speaker 1 (26:30):
Yeah, so that's interesting. I'm going to look into that
because I've been wondering, and I mean, they should be
they should be usful organs.
Speaker 3 (26:39):
Right right. So I had a nephew that passed what
three years ago who donated organs as well, which was
obviously really cool. And to come full circle, we put
a call out the family can put a car that
(27:00):
does anybody need an organ because if it's a direct donation,
I think they called it they kind of jumped to
the bump of the jump I'm struggling today, jump to
the head of the line for that and organ. And
a person that I worked with had a member of
their church that did need an organ. And we never
(27:22):
know if it went to Both families have to agree
to you know, learn of it and meet each other.
But I'm not sure whatever came of it.
Speaker 2 (27:32):
Yeah, yeah, but.
Speaker 3 (27:34):
That'd be kind of cool that someone you know of
someone you know. It was a tough time. It was,
it was we talked about it. We were on a
hike and we had zero cell signal and all of
a sudden, we're sitting down taking a break eating a
(27:55):
text came through and it was my sister letting me
know that her son was in an accident and in
the hospital that we should come. So we packed up
and we pretty much ran down the mountain, and every
time we'd come out on a finger, we'd get a
cell signal and I'm like, I need the address, and
(28:16):
we'd pack the phone up and start running some more
and come out. Okay, I got the address. All right,
we should be there about this date. This time? You date, yeah,
this time. But we spent three days with the family. Yeah,
in the hospital, but it's cool to see people, especially
that young donates to to further humanity.
Speaker 1 (28:40):
Susan said that we can still have healthy organs even
with children's which I mean I haven't. I haven't been
to the rumatologists in a while, but so far my
organs have been healthy. So yeah, absolutely, I agree with that.
It was just it was just the I don't know,
I've just been wondering.
Speaker 3 (28:59):
Yeah. But cool, yea, So what else is on the list?
Speaker 2 (29:05):
I think that's it. I think we covered everything.
Speaker 3 (29:07):
