Speaker 1 (00:01):
Welcome to Spacing Out with BB and Jason, this week
covering the nineteen eighty seven movie Predatory.

Speaker 2 (00:13):
Welcome to spacing Now.

Speaker 3 (00:15):
I'm BB and I'm Jason, and we will be discussing
the Predator franchise one entry at a time, spoiler free,
but we do reserve the right to have a spoiler
section at the end of the podcast in case we
want to discuss any future entries in the series. I
don't have any plans for that right now, but it
might come up. This means we will be covering Predator,

(00:36):
Predator to Predators, the Predator Jesus Crises titles the Predator Prey.
I think that's the one we're looking forward to the most,
and there's Alien Versus Predator, Aliens Versus Predators, Requi Requiem,
and then upcoming will be there's Predator Killer of Killers,

(00:58):
which is an animated movie that is about to come
out I think direct to streaming, and then Predator bad
Lands will come out later in the year. Also on
a note, this is being released on two different podcast feeds,
so if you're on the Spacing Out with Predator podcast,
then I do invite you to check out our main
podcast called spacing out BB and Jason. We've covered a
bunch of different stuff from Battlestar Galactica, Aliens. Our flag

(01:23):
means death Foundation, when am I missing some Star Trek,
Lots of Nerd ship. Yeah, lots of stuff over there.
So that's where we dump everything that we do. It's
just a dumping ground on that podcast, all right. Predator
The plot summary, real quick. An elite paramilitary rescue team
led by Major Dutch is on a covert operation in

(01:44):
a Central American jungle where they are tasked with rescuing
an official and his aid from gorillas. When they encounter
a highly dangerous extraterrestrial with future technology who hunts them
for sport, and are forced to find a way to
defeat it before it kills off the entire team. While
awaiting a helicopter rescue get to the Choppers people.

Speaker 1 (02:05):
Vibe check. Did we like the movie overall? How does
it stand the test of time?

Speaker 3 (02:12):
I have mixed feelings about it.

Speaker 2 (02:13):
I think it's of its time.

Speaker 3 (02:15):
Well yeah, I mean it's super eighties, but I don't know,
it's just kind of boring, very thin plot, slow paced,
shallo characters, Like, there's just not a lot going on. There.
I mean, it does have some interesting moments, but yeah, overall,
I'm not like super into it. I'm where it's a
very like iconic movie, but it's not one that makes

(02:36):
me want to keep going back to it. Yeah, what
do you think.

Speaker 2 (02:40):
I feel like it takes a really long time to
ramp up and a lot of the like classic eighties
paramilitary operation. It's just really basic and boring, like explosion here,
explosion there, Brown guys there, brown guys over there. Kill kill, murder, murder,

(03:02):
jungle jungle.

Speaker 3 (03:03):
It's like it's super like hyper masculine to the point
that like.

Speaker 2 (03:07):
It's a parody of itself in some way.

Speaker 3 (03:09):
Yeah, it feels like a parody at times. I don't know,
like am I supposed to be taking it seriously or not?
Like yeah, yeah, but at the same time, like I
feel like it's kind of trying to show these like
super machismovement my saying that word right now, but and
then like undermining them.

Speaker 2 (03:28):
Yeah. My theory is that the Predator is actually a
woman or a female and that she's taking down the patriarchy.
So with that lens to it, I think it makes
the film more interesting.

Speaker 3 (03:44):
Yeah, that's why she didn't kill the woman. They just
they misread that she's a girls girl. All right, Yeah,
I think that maybe the the ending battle is like
I don't know, it's still kind of like hard to follow.
It's like it's and they keep cutting to the Predator vision,
but it's I think that's so kind of exciting.

Speaker 2 (04:06):
Yeah, I don't know. I feel like the lack of
development for this alien creature was a disservice to the
show the movie, like he comes from outer space and
kills people when it's hot out what. I don't know.

(04:31):
It's kind of like whenever I'm watching the movie, if
it's a good movie, I put my phone down. I'm
paying attention. I'm engaged. This movie is one of those
movies where you can scroll TikTok or you know, shop
on your show on your phone and still be just
as engaged because it's not challenging. It's not like if

(04:51):
you miss some dialogue, it's like not super relevant, you know. Sure,
it's like the two screen movie. So if you're looking
for something to watch when you want to scroll, I
think this is.

Speaker 1 (05:07):
It trivia time. Let's hear a little information about Predator.

Speaker 3 (05:14):
All right, So this is Predator which released on June twelfth,
nineteen eighty seven, written by Jim and John Thomas and
directed by John mcfernan. So the writers Jim and John
are brothers made a few screenplays of their name, in
the earliest of those being Predator and then Predator Too.
Director John mcfernan is known for Predator, die Hard, Diehard

(05:36):
with a vengeance slash action hero, The Hunt for Red October,
and by Thomas Crown Affair.

Speaker 2 (05:40):
Wow, What a dude films?

Speaker 3 (05:43):
Yeah, definitely a mans Man that late eighties nineties.

Speaker 2 (05:49):
Action Machel Man aesthetic.

Speaker 3 (05:52):
Predator is written in nineteen eighty four with the working
title of Hunter, and filming ran from March to June
and nineteen eighty six. The budget was around fifteen million,
and it grossed the ninety eight million worldwide.

Speaker 2 (06:04):
Wow what a what a profitable film?

Speaker 3 (06:08):
Yeah. The creature design was done by Stan Winston, who,
in addition The Predator, is known for special effects makeup
on Terminator, Aliens and Jurassics Park. The character of Hawkens
is played by Shane Black, who would later write and
direct twenty eighteen's The Predator. John Claude van Dam was
originally cast as a predator and was intended for him
to use his martial arts skills in the role. However,

(06:30):
he was significantly shorter than the rest of the cast
members and struggled with the suit beats too hot in cumbers.
He was just a little guy. I think there's footage
of him, and like his costume was very different. It
was kind of like crab like I think, but I
think there's footage of him out there. But he was
replaced by the seven foot to Kevin Peter Hall. Arnold.

(06:54):
Schwarzenegger got married during the production, so they switched to
the second unit while he was off on his honeymoon.
Took place in Mexico in the state of Jalisco. Woo
oh gee. I don't know why I put this in here.
Most of the cast and crew suffered from traveler's diarrhea
during production.

Speaker 2 (07:09):
Yes, Mona Zuma's Revenge.

Speaker 3 (07:13):
The actors undertook a very rigorous fitness routine while shooting
the film, with Schwarzenegger having workout equipment shipped to their location.
I feel like that shows on screen. They're always really
buff and sweaty. Yeah, they look like they're like doing
pushups in between takes. Production is very challenging with cold
temperatures in the jungle, difficult terrain, and fight scenes where

(07:34):
the Predator actor could not actually see in the suit.
Initial reviews were mixed, but the film has since been
considered a classic of the action and science fiction genres
and one of the best films in the nineteen eighties.
What people love it?

Speaker 2 (07:48):
Oh shit, well we're going to be I'm going to
be very divisive in this.

Speaker 3 (07:53):
It was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Visual Effects. Wow,
and the success A Predator launched a media friend of films, novels,
comic books, video games, and toys.

Speaker 1 (08:07):
Deep Space Dive. Let's break down some of our thoughts
on the episode. You can share your thoughts with us
through email or social media. We may use your comments
on an upcoming episode.

Speaker 3 (08:19):
We're in this deep space Deep Jungle Dive.

Speaker 2 (08:22):
I do like that it's an original idea because in
today's world, everything's like a copy of a copy of
a comic book or movie that's already came out in
the eighties or some other shit.

Speaker 3 (08:36):
Yeah yeah, I mean you might say, like it is
derivative of other things, but.

Speaker 2 (08:42):
Like, what the most dangerous game?

Speaker 3 (08:44):
I don't know I feel like it's definitely like Vietnam
movies and stuff, but then it pivots into sci fi.
So yeah, so maybe that's to its credit.

Speaker 2 (08:53):
The visual effects were rough.

Speaker 3 (08:55):
Yeah, the visual effects were what they were.

Speaker 2 (08:58):
They were interesting. I kind of liked the subplot of
Carl Weather's being like steaky, snaky government agent. It's like,
let's hire these mercenaries to go across the border and
do illegal shit.

Speaker 3 (09:14):
Yeah, I mean I feel like that was the only.

Speaker 2 (09:16):
Like interesting thing in the script.

Speaker 3 (09:19):
Yeah, I mean the plot was very straightforward other than that,
like he did some manipulative.

Speaker 2 (09:24):
Things, yeah, very government agent style. And then they decided
to take hostage. And the thing is like, at first
when they arrived to the rebel camp, which what are
they rebelling against? Probably a hostile government takeover that's funded
by the CIA. So how much of a bad guy

(09:45):
would you be if you were trying to keep your
country together and become a socialist country where everybody gets
to eat and everybody gets some land.

Speaker 3 (09:54):
Yeah, So like there was room there in the movie
for them to like also explore some of these of
like what what this where the what's the CIA and
everyone doing this for? In jungle.

Speaker 2 (10:05):
Yeah, and then like I was a little shocked when
they did kill the quote unquote hostage on their little camp.
But then I thought about how many South Americans probably
died in the hands of, you know, the government, and
I'm like, oh, damn, well, just one guy, big deal.

(10:28):
But it was shocking. That was a little sad. That
was like the first death before or after they found
those bodies kind of skinned and uh gutted, which was
pretty gross. And I wish they would have gone into
the process a little bit more, kind of a little
more horror movie esque where the predator is like preparing

(10:50):
the bodies. They kind of did that when he or
they took out the spine and were putting on trinkets. Yeah,
but I wish it was like, give us a little
more insight as to the thought process behind this like adornment.

Speaker 3 (11:07):
Yeah, I think. I mean, I'm not spoiling anything, but
I think we learn more about that in future entries.
But this movie does not.

Speaker 2 (11:14):
They don't care. Yeah, it's just like any character development
anyone anywhere. Like, I think the most character development they
did was with that NAC guy who like gets traumatized
by seeing his friend die and he like goes out
and looks for the predator and then he dies, Like yep,

(11:38):
I don't know. It was just like very one note.

Speaker 3 (11:41):
Yes, that's the note. I had one note.

Speaker 2 (11:44):
And the dialogue had so much to like, Like I
know that the eighties were full of like really interesting
and iconic lingo, and they just they were basic bitches
when they spoke, like Arnold Swissen stops and does a
catchphrase at one point, and then there's that one guy
who has the pussy jokes, and I'm like, what is

(12:08):
going on? This is not how people speak if they
were like a former military or something, like if they
were mercenaries, there would be more conversation. When Carl Weathers
gets his fucking sho spat on by that gross redneck,
that would have been a great opportunity for him to
just punch him in the fucking face and they could
have had a conflict. Yeah, Like there is no conflict

(12:30):
in the movie except that they're being hunted by an
invisible force.

Speaker 3 (12:34):
Yeah. And then so like most of the team doesn't
respect Carl Weathers and that never really announces to anything.

Speaker 2 (12:41):
It never changes, He never proves himself, He never like
I don't know, it's weird Carl Weather's getting his fucking
hand chopped off though, crazy. Yeah, I thought he was
gonna live. I don't remember much of this movie, like
I know, I've seen it like maybe once before, and
I probably zoned out or got way too high to

(13:02):
pay attention. So I was really surprised that Carl Weather's
like a very iconic actor still to this day, like
very well known. I think, I don't know, maybe I'm wrong,
but I thought he was going to be like one
of the guys on the Chopper with Arnold, not that
woman who all of a sudden started speaking English.

Speaker 3 (13:25):
Right, we should have talked about this up top. What
is your experience with the Predator franchise? You say you've
seen this one a long time ago.

Speaker 2 (13:35):
Yeah, maybe even in high school, and I was stoned
out of my mind, and I used to watch the Alien.
I seen Alien. We know that, so in my head,
they're kind of like the two sides of the same coin,
like the superior being that chases after people. And I've
seen Prey and that was really good, but I've never

(13:58):
seen Predators or or Predator too, or Redemption or whatever
they call it. I don't know, but I'm familiar with
the figure of the Predator. There's been like spoofs on
like Family Guy and stuff like that where they make
fun of him. And I think it's interesting that the
character design has like locks, like very like African American

(14:25):
coded in that way, so I think there's something about
that that's very interesting. And uh, I don't know, the
design is very interesting too, with a mask, and then
when he takes the mask off, it's like very vaginal
almost I don't know what to describe it as. It's
just like very like soft tissue with teeth, and I

(14:49):
don't know. That's not how I remember seeing it. It's
the mask, you know.

Speaker 3 (14:53):
Yeah, So for me, I think I've seen all these
movies just once before, and my memory of them isn't
super I watched some, I don't know, over a decade
ago for most of them, except for the ones that
came out more recently, but there was definitely not like
a huge desire to go back to a lot of them.
This movie was. I remember it being more engaging than

(15:14):
I felt like it was this time around. I blamed sobriety.
At the beginning of the movie. I saw, like this
is super eighties. The way I was starting the music.
And then just like all those guys getting off the helicopter,
which it felt like there was no consistency in how
they were dressed, Like one was in a full suit,

(15:34):
another guy's just like in a polo, and then sweatpants.

Speaker 2 (15:37):
Another guy was wearing an emptv T shirt. And it
was just like, oh, it's like a hodgepodge of guys
and they don't even give you an opportunity to be
like endeared by any of them anyway. Like the most
endearing one was Billy the Native American guy vaguely Native American.
We don't know, but it sounds like you might be

(15:59):
represent I mean like a native guy. But he dies.
It just sucks.

Speaker 3 (16:04):
They all die, and most of them are very like
stoic and just like not giving you much. And then
the one guy that you know spits on Carl Weathers.
We're just like waiting for him to get killed.

Speaker 2 (16:17):
Because he doesn't even have like a cool epic dess.
He gets shot by a gun thing.

Speaker 3 (16:22):
Yeah, then he's like the only one that we see
them like more about yeah, yeah, like why does he
get like a funeral sequence almost? And then the music
it's just really weird in the beginning. It's very like
comedic almost, it's like cartoonish.

Speaker 2 (16:38):
Hmm. Yeah. That was the one thing that kept like
breaking me out of the like jungle. Like I was like,
why am I all of a sudden in a Looney
Tunes adventure? Why am I watching Dennis the Menace like
this like very Hollywood like comedy scoring on this like

(17:00):
suspenseful movie. They should have just stuck to the violins
and left the percussions at home. I don't know what
they were thinking. It was crazy.

Speaker 3 (17:09):
I know, they're like fimbing up into that helicopter where
they find the first dead bodies, and it's just like,
is it like a slapstick scene or something?

Speaker 2 (17:17):
And like to me, it was just short of like
a bonnyoing like like I was just waiting for some
fucking just ridiculous sound effect, you know.

Speaker 3 (17:29):
What I mean? Yeah, just tonally odd. It was weird
way into it. And then we get into that first
big action sequence with lots of explosions, and just like,
I don't know, run of the mill eighties action movie.
We could be watching Rambo or anything else like that.
It's like dudes and muscles and explosions and gunshots.

Speaker 2 (17:50):
And to me, it was kind of chaotic. It wasn't
very organized, and I was like a little disappointed because
these were supposed to be like highly trained mercenaries that
nobody could do what they do. And I thought, like personally,
like I would have liked it better if they were
doing like a sneak attack, like a gorilla style warfare

(18:14):
where they take one guy out at a time until
the whole compound is gone with out creating chaos.

Speaker 3 (18:21):
That's what they would do. They would as many guys
as possible as they could eliminate without alerting anyone to them.

Speaker 2 (18:28):
Especially because they're enemy territory and there's you're surrounded by
other gorilla warfare like camps that could come back to
the main camp to like check out what's going on. Now,
let's use our machine guns and our fucking bazookas and
explode everything. It was just like really chaotic. I thought

(18:51):
it was just like, if you were supposed to show
me that these were skilled killers, then they should have
been skilled killers, not just haphazard like I don't know,
just like fools.

Speaker 3 (19:03):
Like they're really skilled at not getting hit by all
the raining gunfire.

Speaker 2 (19:08):
Yeah, because the script asked for it.

Speaker 3 (19:10):
And there's a moment where Carl Weathers and Arnold Swarzenegger
are talking about them being expendable assets. I thought that
was notable because Arnold went in to be in the
movie in the Expendables because kind of about that concept,
but in like embracing it.

Speaker 2 (19:26):
I was wondering if he was in that movie doesn't
have a stallone in it too.

Speaker 3 (19:31):
Yeah, it's a bunch of those old Katies action heroes.

Speaker 2 (19:35):
They're like aged out, but they're like, we still got it.
Watching it, like parts of it, especially when he was
covered in mud and kind of was giving blackface, I
was like, that's the future governor of California. Yep, he
would have wont he if he had it his way,
he would have done it like Ronald Reagan, actor turned

(19:56):
governor turned president, But because he's not an US citizen
and born in America, he couldn't do it. Seeing what
I've seen now, I could totally see like a Swatsenegger ticket.

Speaker 3 (20:11):
Yeah. So after they start having encounters with this alien
creature and start believing it's not just some dudes.

Speaker 2 (20:20):
Carl Weathers is adamant it's three guys. Yeah, he's adamant.

Speaker 3 (20:24):
Three guys tops when they start setting some home alone
style traps out there, and then then they start to
pick up and learn some things about the creature. How
it's it wants to hunt him for sport, it's not
going to kill them unarmed, and you can't see them.
Couldn't see Arnold when he was covered in mud.

Speaker 2 (20:45):
I liked when Carl Weathers finally does see him and
like his little invisibility cloak fails and he kind of
sees the real alien thing, like this real scary monster
looking guy and he's like, oh shit, Like this isn't
something I'm normally up against. Yeah, And I feel like

(21:06):
it would have been so cool if they would have
let him live with his one arm and he was
trying to trap him instead of kill him, to like
bring him back to the American government for study. How
can we use this technology to vanquish our foes type
of storyline.

Speaker 3 (21:24):
Yeah, because there's there's nothing at the end, like there's
no evidence or anything.

Speaker 2 (21:29):
Yeah, And I like that The the Predator, I don't
know what its name is, Rank, I don't.

Speaker 3 (21:35):
Know UT's name.

Speaker 2 (21:37):
Yeah, I don't know. Everybody else got a name, well, no,
not the woman. Our name is Annie, Annie. That's not
that's not a Central American name. Maybe Anna, not Annie. Anyway,
I did like what was I saying?

Speaker 3 (21:55):
No, it was Anna.

Speaker 2 (21:56):
I'm just gonna say. I like how the predator was
learning English.

Speaker 3 (22:01):
Oh yeah.

Speaker 2 (22:03):
And then at the end, right before he maybe killed
himself or exploded himself, he was laughing like Arnold.

Speaker 3 (22:10):
He was laughing like that the other guy.

Speaker 2 (22:12):
Willy or Billy.

Speaker 3 (22:13):
Yeah, yeah, I thought that was great. Yeah. I wish
that built more though, like he's learning, like how they communicate,
and then they didn't really use it except to laugh maniacally.

Speaker 2 (22:26):
Maniacal laugh, maniacal laugh explosion.

Speaker 3 (22:31):
What was up with Bill Duke always shaving?

Speaker 2 (22:33):
I don't know. And he was dry shaving too, so
that's even weirder.

Speaker 3 (22:38):
Well, it wasn't dry shaving because he was super sweaty.

Speaker 2 (22:41):
No, but he was dry shaving in the airplane on
the way in.

Speaker 3 (22:45):
Is that just anotherculine thing.

Speaker 2 (22:47):
Maybe it's like a compulsive thing, or maybe he's like
a really hairy guy. If he doesn't shave all the time,
he's really sensitive about it. That was weird. That was
mac right. Yeah, I'm gonna have to show the movie
to my nephew. His name is Mac.

Speaker 3 (23:03):
Mac played by Bill Duke, who's of course best known
for running the black market in Battlestar Galactica.

Speaker 2 (23:12):
I don't know, is there anything else to say about
this movie? Like it was good, it wasn't great, Like
I'm glad I watched it, but I wouldn't choose to
watch it again, if that makes any sense.

Speaker 3 (23:24):
Yeah, I mean, I'm definitely excited for some of the
ones to come. I think it's going to be hit
or miss, but I mean we're really just wanted to
get back to pray.

Speaker 2 (23:33):
Yeah, I think that one was really interesting.

Speaker 3 (23:37):
And then see where we're going from there because we
have new movies coming out by that same director. How
do you feel about the Like the design of the creature.

Speaker 2 (23:47):
I already said I liked it very cunty, got long nails,
the little gadget on its wrist, like the little gun
on its shoulder, like give me some shimmy and black
to me daddy, you know, very iconic. I liked it
a lot. I think that was one of my favorite
things about the film was actually when whenever it wasn't invisible,

(24:11):
you got to see it's like this very like long.
I liked that it was huge too. The seven foot
four really showed.

Speaker 3 (24:20):
Can you imagine if it was a little five foot guy.

Speaker 2 (24:24):
No, no, that's not going to work. I'm the sizest
size queen. But I really liked it. And again I
I'm My perception of it is, this is a woman
come down to Earth and try to enjoy her time
in Central America, and all of a sudden, this American

(24:48):
plane with these loud Americans lands and she's like pissed off.
She's like, you don't learn the language, you don't care
about the people. You're just here to spy on them.
Not on my I watch Booboo and she kills all
the Americans. So I like it. That's my that's my my,
my interpretation of Predator.

Speaker 3 (25:10):
Well, we'll let you have that. At the end of
the day, I feel like it's just an okay movie,
And I know it's like a big cultural touch point,
but I'm good with it.

Speaker 2 (25:19):
Like I still know people that are like getting the
chop that take a big iconic line, and I thought
it was more dramatic than what it was when it
was actually said.

Speaker 3 (25:31):
Yeah, that's always surprising when you like the life of
the quote has kind of become so much bigger when
you hear it in the movie and he's just kind
of saying it. Yeah, he's not even like screaming it
as much as you think now. And there's another line
there like if it bleeds, we can kill it. That's
another like quoted line sometimes, but even that didn't fill

(25:52):
that big Yeah, it's.

Speaker 2 (25:53):
Just kind of in passing.

Speaker 1 (25:57):
Astral Queen. Who was stand out character in the film?

Speaker 3 (26:02):
Who was your favorite character? Was it the Predator?

Speaker 2 (26:05):
Yes, with those nails touching on the dials like do
do do and then like sewing up her wound, she
was iconic. That's that's who I'm gonna do. Pick us,
my astroqueen, the Predator.

Speaker 3 (26:21):
I think I'm going to pick Carl Weathers just because
he was the most dynamic of all the human characters,
I guess. Yeah, the only one that had some layers
to him. Yeah, his name was Dylan.

Speaker 2 (26:34):
I did like Billy, especially when he stopped right before
they entered the jungle and he's like I sent something here.

Speaker 3 (26:40):
Yeah, I like that, and I like that you could
tell that the rest of the team like respects him. Yeah,
like they don't know what's going on but like we
trust him.

Speaker 2 (26:49):
Yeah, and then when he said we're all going to
die iconic line. Oh that was so good. So if
I wasn't If I had to pick a human character,
I think it'd be Billy.

Speaker 3 (26:59):
But you don't have to.

Speaker 2 (27:00):
Now I'm picking Predator, all right.

Speaker 3 (27:01):
Well, I think we'll do like a real brief spoiler
section here, talk about a couple of things. So if
you haven't seen the future movies and you're planning to
watch them, then don't listen further than this. But the
next movie will cover will be Predator too.

Speaker 2 (27:14):
Let's put our living stereo stylus.

Speaker 3 (27:16):
In this group.

Speaker 1 (27:20):
Race for impact spoilers ahead. If you haven't watched the
whole franchise, now maybe the time to say goodbye. Remember
you can contact us at Spacingoutpod at gmail dot com,
find us on social media, share your thoughts and be
a part of the discussion. Spoilers in five four three two.

Speaker 2 (27:43):
One is Arnold in the second one?

Speaker 3 (27:46):
Nope?

Speaker 2 (27:47):
Does it take place in Central America? Again?

Speaker 3 (27:50):
No it does not. It Actually, Predator two takes place
in Los Angeles. Ooh, so we move from the jungle
to an urban setting. Danny Glover is the main character. Oh,
none of these characters are turned like all these movies
are pretty much new cast.

Speaker 2 (28:06):
You seen Kevin's still in the suit.

Speaker 3 (28:08):
Yes he is. And so you were mentioning that the
Predator was African American coded. I think that definitely comes
more prominent in the next movie, and they started dealing
with Los Angeles and gangs and things like that.

Speaker 2 (28:23):
Is it the nineties?

Speaker 3 (28:24):
Yes, is the nineties, and it's weirdly see the movie
came out in nineteen ninety it's set in like ninety
seven or something like that, so it's like future. So
it's a little bit like dystopian almost. They just said,
like a few years in the future. Put in La in.

Speaker 2 (28:40):
The nineties was dystopian, So.

Speaker 3 (28:42):
After it and then it's set during a heat wave,
I'm not because it has to be hot, because that's
something we kind of learned, is that the predators they
needed to be hot.

Speaker 2 (28:54):
Girl this oh this global warming is gonna make it
like really interesting.

Speaker 3 (28:59):
Then yeah, it's a great time to do a predator.
But yeah, so I think we learn more about what
the predators are doing has these movies go on, and
how they're hunting and doing it for sport, that's why
we get them going up against the alien creatures as well.

Speaker 2 (29:14):
I'm excited for that one because the alien is itself
like a superior being in a lot of ways, Like
it's adapted and it's very like resourceful and ingenious. And
I could, oh my god, imagine a hybrid one of
those face suckers on a Predator.

Speaker 3 (29:34):
Oh yeah, and that's a movie. Like I really don't
remember much at all from it, but I remember it
being like a decent movie.

Speaker 2 (29:41):
Yeah. I remember when it came out, everybody was talking
about it, and I'm like, I don't know anything about that.
I don't know. Watch Sex and the City.

Speaker 3 (29:51):
Yeah, like a Predator too. Not super well received, although
it does have like kind of a cult following the
sequel of the Alien Versus Predator movies. I think is
probably the worst of all of these. Oh joy, So
that will not be if I only get through unless.

Speaker 2 (30:08):
We turn it into a drinking game. Every time they
say Predator, you'd drink. They didn't say Predator once in
this movie though. I did like that, although I do
also like it when they say the name of the
movie in the movie.

Speaker 3 (30:20):
Yeah, they must have cut the line where he's like
what is this some kind of predator and we're the prey.
We also see it the predator like collecting the little trinkets,
and he's like getting one of the guys a skull
like cleaned up. We see that more. I think in
Predator too, actually we see I think the predator collects
these trophies.

Speaker 2 (30:39):
How do you decide what you're gonna.

Speaker 3 (30:41):
Take personal preference?

Speaker 2 (30:45):
I wonder if there's like something about like, oh, well,
this guy he was fearless, so I took his spine,
and this guy he was weak, so I took his ankles.

Speaker 3 (30:56):
I remember, it's all skulls, but then they're like wearing
stuff around thereat.

Speaker 2 (31:00):
Yeah. I would say the easiest thing to make into
a necklace out of the human bones is going to
be pieces of the spine, because your spinal cord goes
through it, and so there's already holes in it, so
it's easy to link up.

Speaker 3 (31:14):
I'll keep that in mind.

Speaker 2 (31:18):
Sorry, I studied bones, okay, and I studied art. You
don't think I've thought about making jewelry out of human bones?

Speaker 3 (31:27):
All right? I only have anything else to add to this,
So that does it for Predator. Sorry, we didn't like it.

Speaker 2 (31:34):
A lot more, yeah, especially considering it won an Academy
Award for Best Visual Effects.

Speaker 3 (31:41):
Wolf Did it win? I think I said it was nominated.

Speaker 2 (31:44):
Oh who won?

Speaker 3 (31:45):
Then? Yeah? Nominated? I don't know. Nineteen eighty seven.

Speaker 2 (31:48):
I'm like google it.

Speaker 3 (31:49):
I don't have to know who beat them. Oh it's Aliens.

Speaker 2 (31:52):
Oh it's a little girl.

Speaker 3 (31:53):
Wait no, I'm reading this wrong or it showed it
to me wrong. Predator was eighty seven, so Aliens was
eighty six. Movie Innerspace. The awards for nineteen eighty six
took place in nineteen eighty seven, so the year that
Predator won.

Speaker 2 (32:08):
Was the year prior, it was the year after.

Speaker 3 (32:10):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, so it would be the nineteen
eighty eight awards that award the nineteen eighty seven films.

Speaker 2 (32:16):
Should we watch Innerspace?

Speaker 3 (32:19):
I hear its visual effects are good?

Speaker 2 (32:21):
Yeah? Wow?

Speaker 3 (32:22):
All right, Well, thanks for spacing out with us, and remember,
if it bleeds, we can kill it.

Speaker 2 (32:27):
Better than saying if it bleeds, it breeds, you know
what I mean?

Speaker 3 (32:30):
Past Yeah, well they probably would have said that in
this movie.

Speaker 1 (32:34):
