covering the twenty twenty five animated movie Predator Killer of Killers.
Speaker 2 (00:13):

Speaker 3 (00:14):
I'm Bb and I'm Jason, and we are discussing the
Predator franchise one entry at the time. And if you're wondering,
where's Predator bad Lands, because that's already out or we
will be recording that for next week, so go see
it if you have it, because right now we're going
to talk about Killer of Killers and which you can
find on Hulu. You can find all the Predator movies
on Hulu or Disney Plus depending on where you live
(00:38):
or when you're listening to this. In this film, three
of the fiercest warriors and human history become prey to
the ultimate Killer of Killers. It is a very short
summary of this that is very short.
Speaker 1 (00:53):
Five check did we like the movie overall? How does
it stand the test of time?
Speaker 3 (00:59):
Love it?
Speaker 2 (01:00):
Love it? Love it, love it, love it. Love it
was great, interesting, creative, full of action. I'm blood this
memberment love it.
Speaker 3 (01:10):
Yeah, I think it was great. It was just fantastic.
I loved each of the stories and I liked that
they all came together and I liked the animation. I'll
just go across the board.
Speaker 2 (01:21):
Yeah, really good. No notes, Well, maybe something we'll see.
Speaker 1 (01:28):
Trivia time. Let's hear a little information about Predator Killer
of Killers.
Speaker 3 (01:33):
So this was Predator Killer of Killers, which originally premiered
on June sixth, twenty twenty five. Written by Mitcho Robert
Rutaire and story by Dan Tracktenberg and Micho Robert Rutaire.
This film was kept secret during production, being announced in
October twenty twenty four with no other details other than
that Van Tracktenberg had directed a secret film to be
(01:55):
released prior to Predator bad Lands. I remember hearing about
that and being like, how how do you make a
secret movie on a big scale like this? Forning was
going to be a short film or something, but no,
it was animated months later. Is Real to be an
animated movie with production happening simultaneously with Badlands. The film
was animated with Unreal Engine, which is a computer graphics
engine developed for video games and it's more recently been
(02:18):
used in creating virtual sets for films and television. If
you think about like the Mandalorian and those virtual backgrounds
they have stylistic influences come from nineteen eighty eight Sakira
and Netflix's Arcane, embracing stylized violence and spectacle. Then, on
July twenty fifth, twenty twenty five, an extended cut of
the film was released, which adds the characters Dutch Schaeffer
(02:40):
from Predator and Mike Harrigan from Petator two to the
suspended animation Chambers at the end of the film.
Speaker 2 (02:45):
That's like Danny Glover and I.
Speaker 3 (02:47):
Don't know's fortune.
Speaker 2 (02:48):
Yeah, okay's like, who the fuck are those guys?
Speaker 3 (02:52):
And The film had high high viewership numbers on streaming
and critical reviews were positive. That currently sits a ninety
five percent on Tomatoes.
Speaker 1 (03:03):
Deep Space Dive, let's break down some of our thoughts
on the movie. You can share your thoughts with us
through email or social media. We may use your comments
on an upcoming episode.
Speaker 2 (03:16):
Well, wow, we had so much diversity. We had an
old lady, we had Asian guy and a Mexican dude.
Speaker 3 (03:28):
Which storyline was your favorite?
Speaker 2 (03:30):
I really liked the lady because she had like this
vengeance plot that was really interesting. And I mean, I
like them all. Oh my god, I can't pick a favorite. Yeah,
because they were all interesting. I think hers was the
most interesting to me personally though, because like, I don't know,
I feel like whenever you think of a Viking warrior,
(03:51):
you think of like thor right, you think of like, oh,
a white guy. Yeah, you don't think of an older
woman with gray hair, and she's.
Speaker 3 (04:00):
Such a badass.
Speaker 2 (04:01):
So I don't know, it was. They were all different
stories too, which is really good to see, Like, yeah, I.
Speaker 3 (04:09):
Think, I mean, I like them all too. I think
my tator was the second one, the Japanese one.
Speaker 2 (04:14):
Yeah, with the brothers, two brothers that took two different paths.
I think, Yeah, that one was really good too, and
the I really liked the use of the traditional Japanese
architecture as like the battleground Yeah, like using all those
U scaled roofing like that was so cool. I think
(04:38):
my least favorite was the American one, just because it
was kind of basic and I felt like it was
shorter than the rest of them.
Speaker 3 (04:45):
I don't know if it was.
Speaker 2 (04:46):
It just felt shorter to me.
Speaker 3 (04:48):
I like that it changed it up a little bit
and made it about the battle and the sky versus
the more hand in hand combat. Yeah, we haven't really
had that. I think in any of the Predator movie.
Speaker 2 (05:00):
No, we don't really focus on them and their ships.
Speaker 3 (05:03):
Usually the ships are just dropping them off.
Speaker 2 (05:05):
I thought it was crazy that he learned how to
drive one in like five minutes. Yeah, he just like
closed his eyes and intuitively knew that's crazy.
Speaker 3 (05:14):
Yeah, he got that power from his dad.
Speaker 2 (05:16):
Taught him not to flood the engine.
Speaker 3 (05:18):
Yeah. The Viking one had that underwater stuff too. That
was really cool. Yeah, that was so cool.
Speaker 2 (05:23):
And I was like, this Predator is used to like
tropical heat, so seeing them in this cold environment with
snow and ice was really I'm sure it was like
to her advantage to have him in her element.
Speaker 3 (05:39):
Yeah, I was wondering. I mean, there's not a lot
of like way they could explore this, but like was
that an issue for the predator but in some ways
because like it couldn't see her under the water.
Speaker 2 (05:50):
Yeah, I was wondering, why wasn't he wearing a coat?
Speaker 3 (05:54):
Right? I know. I feel like they made such a
big deal in the first two out of their movies
about how many they liked the heat. Yeah, and they
never really came back to that.
Speaker 2 (06:05):
No, because man, if it's forty degrees out, motherfuckers will
be wearing their parkas and their heaviest coats. I imagine
it was way colder than forty degrees in that Viking winter.
Were they in Russia though, because that guy had a
point a hat that indicated like Slavic.
Speaker 3 (06:25):
Kind of they were in Scandinavia, okay.
Speaker 2 (06:28):
But that hat, that hat that the guy was wearing,
it gave Russia, and he was an invader, so I'm
wondering if he was like Slavic.
Speaker 3 (06:37):
Yeah. I think what makes us so good is that
each one of these stories was engaging on their own
in some way. I'm like, man, the preadter is going
to show up and like interrupt this story.
Speaker 2 (06:47):
I'm enjoying, right, Yes, yes, Especially when the two brothers
were fighting, I was like, oh, man, the partiers come
in back day. And then he interrupted them when they
were getting their like vitory against the weird old guy
in the Viking set too. Yeah, and then he like
tore down their hall. It was crazy.
Speaker 3 (07:07):
Yeah. So and then you think this is going to
be kind of just a bunch of like short films
stacked together, but they start intertwining and they come together
at the end.
Speaker 2 (07:16):
Yeah. I like how they can't communicate, but eventually they're
all on the same page. Yeah, and she even like
gives her life basically to let them run away.
Speaker 3 (07:28):
But she's back in suspended animation. So yeah, I don't know,
like with them teasing that at the end, is there
going to be another like animated movie or no.
Speaker 2 (07:38):
I wonder if there's this is going to call back
to the bad Lands. I wonder if it ties into
that one. In my head, I want to see there
be like a data breach or like they forget to
pay their light bill and they all of the people
that they've all of the creatures because I saw aliens too,
(07:59):
all of the creatures that they have in those cryogenic
like pods wake up all at once and like slaughter
the predator race. But like one of the things I
was wondering, if they survive, if they make it out
of there, how will they make it home?
Speaker 3 (08:16):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (08:17):
Is there like a navigation system that he's able to hack.
Speaker 3 (08:21):
There's no way, right, Like it's such a stretch that
he could fly that thing at all. Yeah, over him
to be able to read anything enough to navigate to
go home, to have any idea like where is Earth?
Unless there's just like an Earth button.
Speaker 2 (08:35):
Yeah, because they love Earth, Like a lot of the
creatures in there were human, and they frequent Earth enough
that they have at least three humans fighting against each other.
I kind of like that. At the end, they showed
all of the people that have been in the movies,
like the girl from Prey, and which means like they
(08:59):
came back.
Speaker 3 (09:00):
And got her, Yeah, which was hinted that at the
end of Prey in the closing credits they showed like
the they retold the story of the movie and like
the drawings and they had the three ships show up there. Yeah,
so now I can assume they took her. Yeah, and
they probably slaughtered a bunch of Lakoda or whatever they were.
What were they, Shyanne Comanchi commanch And because Arnold schwartzen
(09:23):
Iyer kept refusing to return, now they could put him
in there and say he was taken. Yeah. I don't
know what else to say. I liked it. It's good.
Speaker 2 (09:32):
Yeah, it was really good. The different weaponry that the
predator used was different in every iteration too, so you
didn't get bored and you didn't like feel like they
kept hitting the same notes with the same weapon.
Speaker 3 (09:49):
Yeah, and I love this, Like, I mean it really
started with Prey where they kind of pick a different
time period in location and insert the predator storyline there.
Speaker 2 (09:59):
Yeah, and they we have a good story already without
the predator, Like it's a good story even without having
that alien element. Like we could have just watched a
short film about warriors in different times and it would
have been perfect. So I like that this director has
gone this direction. I don't know what else to say
(10:21):
about it, though. It's a really good movie and I
feel like it adds to the franchise in a way
that other films haven't really been able to do that.
Speaker 3 (10:30):
Yeah, So I mean if this one slipped by you
because as straight to streaming or is animated, and you
didn't really think it was worth checking out, like definitely is.
It's honestly one of the stronger entries in this franchise.
After we see bad Lands next week, I think we
should try to rank them. Okay, I like that, but yeah,
(10:50):
I guess if that's it, then we should move on
to the Astral Queen.
Speaker 1 (10:56):
Astral Queen, who was the standout character in the film.
Speaker 3 (11:01):
We had a lot of strong characters. Yeah, and like Honestly,
there's like, You've got several good choices here, we really do.
Speaker 2 (11:09):
Like, I can't even think of one. I think I'm
gonna give it to old Girl.
Speaker 3 (11:13):
Though, So you're giving it to where is she ursa
ursa Scandinavian Viking hunter who seeks vengeance.
Speaker 2 (11:21):
And a mother. You know, she's a mom and a warrior,
and I think that's important to remember.
Speaker 3 (11:27):
Well, I think I'm gonna go with the one I
say it was my favorite storyline and pick. His name
is Kinji Kawakami, this grace son of the Samurai Wolrd
and fun fact about him. He's voiced by the same
actor who portrayed the Japanese man named Predators.
Speaker 2 (11:46):
Oh he came back.
Speaker 3 (11:47):
Yeah, he's the guy that had the sword duel with
the Predator.
Speaker 2 (11:50):
Yeah. Yeah, yeah, the quiet guy.
Speaker 3 (11:52):
Yep, that's cool.
Speaker 2 (11:53):
I'm glad they called him back.
Speaker 3 (11:55):
So those are astral queens or as.
Speaker 2 (11:58):
You get an honorable mention though, Yeah, you hacked your
way out of that alien and save the day.
Speaker 3 (12:04):
Yeah, so you're you can be up on stage while
the others get their awards.
Speaker 2 (12:08):
Yeah, you get bronze.
Speaker 3 (12:10):
We'll be sending those too. The future forever wherever these
guys are.
Speaker 2 (12:16):
Right, it might be the past. I don't know. I
like that they gave Torres that fucking janky ass weapon.
Speaker 3 (12:23):
Oh yeah, we didn't talk about that gun. That gun
is still moving around this universe.
Speaker 2 (12:29):
They're like, we're gonna give you the weapon of your tribe,
and he's like, well you're brown, though, we're gonna give
you their gun.
Speaker 3 (12:39):
It's like when you have like historical fiction that takes
something from you know, like you know, eight hundred years
ago and twelve hundred years ago and just put some
in the same storyline together because it's all this and past.
Speaker 2 (12:51):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (12:51):
All right, So that does it for this week with
the Killer of Killers. Where we back next time cover
Predator bad Lands. We've not seen it yet, but we
will by then. I hope you have too.
Speaker 2 (13:03):
I'm so excited.
Speaker 3 (13:04):
I love going to the movie.
