Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to Spacing Out with BB and Jason this week,
covering Foundation season three, episode four, The Stress of Her Regard.

Speaker 2 (00:14):
Welcome to Spacy Now.

Speaker 3 (00:15):
I'm Bb and I'm Jason, and we are discussing the
Apple TV sci fi series Foundation, one episode at a time,
covering season three as it releases in real time. And
you might be listening to this on our Foundation podcast,
but we do have our main channel, spacing Out, BB
and Jason. We've covered Battlestar Galactica, Alien, Our Flagming's death,

(00:38):
some Star Trek, and we're.

Speaker 2 (00:40):
Open to suggestion. Yeah, you have any sci fi series
or television that you'd like for us to consume and discuss,
let us know.

Speaker 3 (00:49):
Yeah, and you can always write into us. We've got
an email and social media. All that is in the description.
I believe our robot voice reads that out as well.
In this episode, the Murzelle reveals to Zephyr brote Valeris
that three centuries ago she orchestrated the attacks on the StarBridge,
framing Thespis and anacreon On. Pritcher meets his lover Gail

(01:11):
on Ignis, proving that BB was right about him. We
were both right, Supreme Palver helps Pritcher reveal that the
Mule read him, but we'll see is aware of Gail
in the Second Foundation, he does not know their location.
Tormented by her visions, Gail urges Pritcher to convince the
First Foundation to support war with the Mule ahead of

(01:32):
the third CELLDN crisis just seventy two hours away. Ebling
Mee talks to a new Terminus Mayor Endebur and Ambassador
Quin about his discussions with Terry Selden. Quint and Dusk
explore the prime Radiant. Day seeks information from cleon the
First about his role suppressing the robot worshiping Inheritance cult
and Mysogen in the year twenty six. The Marzelle tells

(01:54):
Day about the connection between robots. Dawn meets with Gail
in person, but has followed, and they escape together on
Gayl's and fulfilling his plans with the Clavenger, Day escapes
the palace and removes his nanites, but shoots the Clavager
as he's disloyal.

Speaker 2 (02:09):
What an episode?

Speaker 1 (02:11):
Indeed, indeed, vive check, did we like the episode overall?

Speaker 2 (02:19):
I liked it a lot. A lot of things happened,
a lot of things are moving. The one thing I
didn't like is the Gail and the other guy from
the Second Foundation First Foundation's love story. I don't know
why they are always trying to like hook her up
and give her like a love line.

Speaker 3 (02:38):
I like that they had a thing. I just don't
know why he was so pushy.

Speaker 2 (02:42):
She was very pushy.

Speaker 3 (02:43):
I didn't like that, Hey, you heard about this marriage
thing because we need to lock this death.

Speaker 2 (02:48):
I feel like she's been engaged before, like and for
her it wasn't that long ago.

Speaker 3 (02:53):
Yeah. I think they were trying to break down that
disconnect on how long they've experienced together. So, like, the
episode is really good. I think this season has just
been delivering strong episodes. And I always I wander on
to IMDb as I'm gathering the information for the shows,
and all these episodes are like in the highest rated ones.

Speaker 1 (03:18):
Trivia time, What facts or news could we uncover for
the Stress of Her Regard?

Speaker 3 (03:23):
This is Foundation season three, episode four, The Stress of
Her Regard? Not sure where that title comes trump. This
aired on August first, twenty twenty five, Written by Jane
Espenson and David Cobb and directed by Roxanne Dawson. Those
are all people we have talked about before, so I
don't have anything new to add, and didn't find any
significant news about the show either, So that's all for Trivia.

Speaker 1 (03:47):
Deep Space Dive. Let's break down some of our thoughts
on the episode. You can share your thoughts with us
through email or social media. We may use your comments
on an upcoming episode.

Speaker 3 (04:00):
We kicked this thing off with the Murzille processing her
actions in season one of bringing down the StarBridge to
finally got some answers on Crazy Crazy.

Speaker 2 (04:12):
She's like, at first, I was like, foundations, good, I'm
down for that. Let's support them. I got to use
their emotion, and I'm like, surely the shit there could
have been, like, you know, something to make them emotional
without killing like millions of people.

Speaker 3 (04:29):
Yeah, that was wild.

Speaker 2 (04:31):
And then like those executions, cause it was like the
bad Day too, Like day was really rude to those
people that were allegedly responsible for the attacks. So I'm like, fuck, dude, Like,
not only did like a lot of people die during

(04:51):
the whole incident of the skybridge falling, but also now
two planets are alienated from Empire and no longer have
access to trade and commerce and effectively like severing them
from society and prosperity.

Speaker 3 (05:09):
Yeah. And I'm trying to remember season one.

Speaker 2 (05:13):
What all you like murdered everybody that came over to
see him that day? It was a lot.

Speaker 3 (05:18):
Yeah. And then there was fighting on Terminus that I
think was related to it. I honestly don't remember, but
I know it was bad. It was Yeah, And then
de Marselle is like, I really love this exploring of
her and what her once might be versus her programming and.

Speaker 2 (05:36):
Her consciousness, consciousness, her capability of having remorse and all this,
and that girl really pressed her. That religious leader, Yeah,
was like really pressing on her, like saying you've died,
you are a different person, you have reincarnated. For you
to say you haven't is foolish. And I feel like

(05:56):
she's got a little grain of truth there, and I
think that's what really picked like it really really like
upset drumisol.

Speaker 3 (06:03):
Yeah, and is she looking for like these loopholes to
try to get out of her situation, but she also
like can't admit that because that would be her working
against empire. Like it's really fascinating, and they keep showing
that she has complexity. And then she also talks about
like she was designed to, you know, be in connection

(06:24):
with other robots, and she has none around her. And
we know that brother Day is going to the robot
worshiping cults, so I feel like they're setting up to
have her not be the only one.

Speaker 2 (06:37):
That's going to be Christine, to not have one robot
to to show that there's like, it'd be fun if
it was, like, you know, she's like a high class model,
maybe like we see a little rickety one.

Speaker 3 (06:51):
Like.

Speaker 2 (06:53):
It sucks too though, because like Cleon the first, the
og when to this robot planet to steal robot tools,
So that means that if there is a robot on
that planet, the tools aren't there anymore for that robot
to use. And when the new Cleon the the you know,
the twenty sixth or whatever, when he comes in, he's

(07:15):
going to be like, oh, I have a tool for you,
and that robot's going to be so excited.

Speaker 3 (07:20):
I would hope they have more tools.

Speaker 2 (07:22):
No, because it was a relic, you know. But and
and Cleon like himself, eradicated the planet of Believers and
he was.

Speaker 3 (07:30):
Proud of that.

Speaker 2 (07:32):
Oh what a pig. I really like the current Cleon
the Day because he's just like he's more perceptive than
he seems.

Speaker 3 (07:41):
Yeah, and as he showed that with the Clavenger and
all that time he spent gambling with.

Speaker 2 (07:48):
Them, he was like reading them and assessing them.

Speaker 3 (07:51):
Yeah, he's become a lot more interesting than just kind
of this joke of a this oaf, this.

Speaker 2 (07:58):
Lazy kind of like dude that likes to do drugs
and hang out.

Speaker 3 (08:02):
Yeah, and kind of like what's the word for it,
like just doesn't believe in anything.

Speaker 2 (08:07):
Yeah. Well, and I think his attitude towards Demerzoll is
really interesting that he hates robots. He calls them things
and he's like, oh, it's like when the toaster of
then communicates with the wall or whatever. It's very like,
you're not a person, You're not real, You're it's very angry.

Speaker 3 (08:29):
Yeah, nihilism, that's what I was thinking of.

Speaker 2 (08:31):
Oh nihilistic.

Speaker 3 (08:33):
Yeah, yeah, he because he sees the Merzil as someone
who doesn't actually care for him and isn't looking out
for him as a human. But it's just her objective
is fact Pretty true?

Speaker 2 (08:46):
Yeah, it's crazy though that she's losing rain of everyone again.

Speaker 3 (08:51):
Yeah, So at the end of this episode, like day
is out of there Don is out of there. Dusk
also appears to be pretty friendly with the Foundation ambassador. Yeah,
but I think he's still very much Empire.

Speaker 2 (09:06):
He's still present because he doesn't want to turn into dust.

Speaker 3 (09:09):
Yeah, and he has a death star. Never forget that.

Speaker 2 (09:14):
Yeah, don't forget he has a death star. But that's
crazy that she lost rain of them again, Like this
is the second time now, maybe third if we count
Baby down running away and getting entrapped by those other
people that were like cloning him. But I feel like,

(09:34):
I don't know, Maybe she is self sabotaging because your
house is unwell more than once, and you're not changing
your patterns, you're not changing your approach in any way.

Speaker 3 (09:46):
Yeah, but I mean we also we jumped over two
hundred and fifty years where I assume things went okay.

Speaker 2 (09:52):
Maybe, So Gail is chilling. She's just chilling, hanging out
by the pool, and and all of a sudden, the
Mule knows her name. The only reason he knows her
name is because she sent out a spy. Yep, so
she did it to herself. It's like when you shoot
yourself in the foot.

Speaker 3 (10:09):
Yeah, they've reshot those Mule scenes from last season because
they changed that actor. That was interesting. And then so yeah,
so we we're both right in a sense about Han Pritcher.
He was we saw him as part of the first foundation,
and I clocked him on the second foundation.

Speaker 2 (10:27):
You did well when he said nobody can hear you,
you can't do anything while I'm here, I was like, Oh,
he's got mental abilities.

Speaker 3 (10:35):
Yeah, well, John, Like that's interesting. Does he know that
he has those?

Speaker 2 (10:41):
And I liked when they did the mind meld and
they were all at the Mules party. That was really cool. Yeah,
and I thought it was very interesting that they were like,
the music is part of his like it grows his power,
it makes him more influential, and knowing that they took
away his musician is like going to add to the

(11:02):
element of like what what are these other fools, these
two influencers going to do. How are they going to
play into like maybe the third crisis.

Speaker 3 (11:12):
Yeah, it's also interesting that you know, the music's a
part of it, and they have a death character there
who would presumably not be affected by it.

Speaker 2 (11:21):
But he says he can feel it because vibrations and
you can still feel music even if you can't hear it.
There's sound waves move and vibrate throughout like solid items
and objects. So just because you can't hear the music
doesn't mean it can't affect you.

Speaker 3 (11:42):
I think. Yeah, but if the situation were to be
where he was in the presence of it, I think
he would be at least less affected by it.

Speaker 2 (11:50):
Yeah, yeah, he'd be more resilient against his persuasive powers.

Speaker 3 (11:55):
Perhaps.

Speaker 2 (11:56):
But they sent the wrong guy, then, yeah, they sent
the wrong guy.

Speaker 3 (12:01):
Gail had to get her clinging boyfriend out of there.

Speaker 2 (12:04):
Yeah, she's like, you need to leave, you need to
go on this mission, and now she's sending them on
another mission. And then he had the nerve to say,
salve Or wouldn't want you to be alone? Like, bitch,
you never met Salvor. Get the fuck out of here
with that noise.

Speaker 3 (12:18):
I don't want you talking about Salvor rude.

Speaker 2 (12:21):
And what kind of life would you expect to have
with her if she goes to sleep every other like
every ten years or whatever, what kind of like are
you gonna be celibate for ten years? Are you gonna
like not have any sort of relationship for ten years
at a time and you grow old and she stays
the same age. That's fucking creepy, bro, even creepy when

(12:44):
you think about how you met her when you were
a child. Yeah, what's the grooming situation here? What do
we talk like? How is this okay? I don't know.
It made me uneasy. That whole relationship made me uneasy.
I met you when I was five, and now I'm
twenty five, and we're when you're three hundred years old.
Iw iw I don't care. I don't care. It's not cool.

(13:06):
She needs to find somebody of her own caliber. She
should have just hooked up with Harry Selden, not just kidding.
That would have been terrible too, because there was a
big age gap there too. I don't know.

Speaker 3 (13:18):
I will say, like Gail's a frustrating character for a
long time because the show wouldn't break her away from
Harry Selden, and she always seemed like she was being
suppressed by him and not manipulating able to be like
her full self. And then Salvar comes into the picture
and they they're very like cold to each other, like

(13:39):
there doesn't seem to be chemistry at first, and that
grew and I got better. But I feel like now
like Gail is such a better character in the show.

Speaker 2 (13:47):
Yeah, she's stronger, she's independent, she's in charge. She's giving
directions and trying to figure out how to best deal
with the Mule without Selden, without any guidance from a man.
But here's this man telling her you need to marry me.
You need to marry me right now because we're running
out of time. That's so rude. That's not what you

(14:10):
want to hear when you're in crisis. A true partner
would be like, how can I help?

Speaker 3 (14:13):
Also, she had a date to go to with Don.

Speaker 2 (14:17):
Yeah, she had a date with Don and she had
to go irl and she revealed her powers to him.

Speaker 3 (14:24):
Yeah, and then seeing him like running through those tunnels
reminded me of season one of the Down trying to escape. Yeah,
but yet another another Don escaped in the Empire. Yeah,
this one didn't really want to.

Speaker 2 (14:38):
No, he wanted to stay because he was so close
to the throne.

Speaker 3 (14:41):
Yeah, he's like, can't you come back next week?

Speaker 2 (14:44):
You don't need to take me. I'm just gonna be
there in charge soon, you don't, you know, we don't
need to deal with this. And then Homeboy gets out
of the vault after insulting Seldon.

Speaker 3 (14:55):
Yeah, we didn't see doctor ebling me for a couple episodes.

Speaker 2 (15:00):
Yeah, and he spilled all the tea. He's like, empire
has a fucking prime radiant and we need to worry
because the third crisis is coming in like three days,
and we need to call the envoy that's on fucking
terminus because she needs to know right now. And once
she spills the tea in front of Dremosol in them,

(15:22):
they are gagged. Yeah, they are gagged. And then uh, well,
don Dusk is like, well, I might as well show
her come on Demerzol, and Demerzel's like, fuck, are you sure?
Like damn? And I don't know why she doesn't like
protest more.

Speaker 3 (15:38):
Yeah, I don't know, but.

Speaker 2 (15:39):
It might be that thing where she's like into self sabotage.

Speaker 3 (15:43):
I mean, how much can she how much does she
control the emperors versus taking orders from them?

Speaker 2 (15:50):
Well, she can murder them.

Speaker 3 (15:52):
Yeah, but it has to be like a complete threat
to the empire.

Speaker 2 (15:55):
You don't think this is showing an enemy your prime
radiant apparently crazy. I wouldn't do it. I wouldn't do it.

Speaker 3 (16:03):
And then there's a random a rectile dysfunction joke in.

Speaker 2 (16:07):
There is there. I didn't notice sick. What was it.

Speaker 3 (16:10):
When he tries to open the prime Radiant and he
can't get it? Oh, and he's like, I swear this
never happens. She's like, oh, should I give you a moment?

Speaker 2 (16:19):
Oh? I didn't realize that was that. Okay, because he's old.
I get it.

Speaker 3 (16:23):
You always miss the cruider jokes.

Speaker 2 (16:25):
I don't know why.

Speaker 3 (16:26):
Yeah, So what's their relationship?

Speaker 2 (16:29):
You can obviously tell that they're close, So I don't know.
I'm very interested how this is all going to play
out with the Foundation and Empire. I feel like they're
slowly intertwining.

Speaker 3 (16:41):
Yeah. I like that there's more players on the board. Now,
there's not just Foundation and Empire. There's a second Foundation
and the Mule.

Speaker 2 (16:50):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (16:51):
So it's just a lot more interesting from the political
drama side of it.

Speaker 1 (16:56):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (16:56):
And I do love a political drama. I really do like.
And I love like when like like that guy Pavlov
or whatever his name is, who plays two sides? What's
his name?

Speaker 3 (17:06):
Who? Han Pritcher, Pritcher, Pritcher, not Pavlov, that's the dog guy.

Speaker 2 (17:11):
And even day like or Don, I mean Don was
also playing two sides of like, so we have double agents,
which is very interesting.

Speaker 3 (17:20):
Yeah. I liked when Day goes to talk to cleon
the first when he spits on him iconic. Yeah, just
really like drawing the contrast between who he is versus
who the original was. Like visually, you very clearly see
the clean cut and kind of gladiator looking guy.

Speaker 2 (17:40):
Even says he's like, are we in decline like reading
him like saying, oh you look bad, brother.

Speaker 3 (17:48):
He shuffled in here unshaven with the ferret and sandals,
and but yeah, I just how how different this day is.
And I mean you already talked about how he's not
as checked out as he seems to be. Yeah, very
aware of a lot of stuff.

Speaker 2 (18:06):
And I think that's really surprising because of the way
they've been portraying him as like this drug like induced,
like chill hippie guy. Yeah, and then all of a
sudden he like, I could read your tells and I'm
gonna fucking murder you. Because this was the plan all along.

(18:27):
These nan nights were never for your daughter or your kid.
They were always supposed to go to you so that
they could fucking think that my body was dead.

Speaker 3 (18:34):
Brutal, brutal Are they going to find that body, and
is it going to be in bad enough shape to
not idea.

Speaker 2 (18:42):
I think it's gonna be a couple of days maybe
before they find it.

Speaker 3 (18:47):
It's just to slow him down.

Speaker 2 (18:49):
Yeah, it's to slow him down so that they don't
look for him outside the castle walls. They're looking for
him in the water. But I mean, that's a black
man that there's no mistake in him.

Speaker 3 (19:00):
I think, guy.

Speaker 2 (19:04):
I still can't believe that the nanites are easy, that
easy to take out of your body though, after that,
for after that one incident with brother Dawn getting abducted
and they were going to like trade it swap them,
I would have thought that they would have like made
those nanites way more difficult to take out of their bodies. Nope,

(19:24):
doesn't seem like it.

Speaker 3 (19:25):
You just need a little like, uh, what's it called
donating plasma?

Speaker 2 (19:29):
A little blood pump. I want to know who was
that guy signaling with his lights.

Speaker 3 (19:34):
I assume it was either like the other people he
worked with, the other Clavagers or I mean maybe it
was for Demerzal or Dusk or someone else.

Speaker 2 (19:42):
But Demersal didn't know, so it might have been his
other friends. Just to not let him out, but he
got got.

Speaker 3 (19:49):
Yeah, I don't know, because it doesn't seem like days
going to be stopped. No, he as a reult of
that flash.

Speaker 2 (19:55):
So I'm excited to see him go to the robot people.

Speaker 3 (19:58):
Yeah, I'm excited for them to explore other worlds, a
new new culture. And so we're headed towards the third Crisis,
which I'm gonna mention in the books. So Harry Selden
when he comes out of the vault to talk to them,
he's not like actually like a conscious thing that's reacting
to what's actually happening. It's more like a pre recorded

(20:20):
message that he set up in advance to be like
this is where I think you'll be, and this is
the situation will probably be, and this is how we
should get through it. So when they get to this
point where the Mule shows up, he did not account
for the mule kind of disrupting everything. So he everyone
is like desperate to hear from him about like how
do we deal with the mule? And he comes out
and he's like, so you think you're at a civil

(20:42):
war point or something. They're like what, No, So he's
he's completely wrong about their situation.

Speaker 2 (20:47):
Right right, because Gail told him that his numbers didn't
add up. At the very beginning of the move of.

Speaker 3 (20:55):
The show, there were still gaps in his mass math.

Speaker 2 (20:59):
He was too early to present, but he was eager, Beaver.

Speaker 3 (21:03):
You have any other points to make?

Speaker 2 (21:06):
No, I miss song.

Speaker 3 (21:09):
Yeah, but I'm pretty dang confident that we're gonna see
her again.

Speaker 2 (21:12):
Oh yeah, because she went back home.

Speaker 3 (21:15):
And then she won't have her memories, I guess, but
he might seduce her. We know a group that can
restore those memories.

Speaker 2 (21:23):
Oh yeah, Oh my god.

Speaker 1 (21:28):
Astral Queen, who was the standout character in the episode.

Speaker 2 (21:33):
Who's your Astral Queen? I'm gonna say mine date. Here's
his day minus day. He was a bad bitch when
he went and asked all these questions and then he
like sneakily snuck that tool at a Drmoseel's house, and
then he like went into that guy's house with a
fucking ferret and he's like, Oh, I'm just chilling with

(21:56):
your wife and kid, No big deal.

Speaker 3 (21:59):
Yeah, like the power dynamic there.

Speaker 2 (22:01):
Yeah, And then he's like, oh, you thought I was stupid?
Huh you thought you could play me? Well, pow pal,
You're stupid. You're dead now and you're my alibi. God damn,
that was crazy. I've never liked they ever ever. I
always hated Day, but this is the very first time
where I'm like, hey, that's kind of cool.

Speaker 3 (22:21):
Yeah, especially when they did contrast him with the other
version of Day, even though that's not the one we're
used to. It's very similar to who we saw last season.
Oh yeah, I like that arrogant asshole.

Speaker 2 (22:32):
Yeah. The worst Day of our time was the one
who destroyed that one planet, the Foundation. He was awful. Yeah,
but this one's a breath of fresh air. My goodness.

Speaker 3 (22:43):
Yeah, I liked him a lot too. Just to be different,
I'm gonna pick Gail for my astral queen.

Speaker 2 (22:49):
She was running down those halls.

Speaker 3 (22:51):
She was also just like very on top of things,
very confident, just like as I said before, like she's
such a better character now. Yeah, and just like seeing
her in her own and like Donna is just like
no idea what's going on.

Speaker 2 (23:05):
But he's in there. He's in it for the ride now,
there's no turning back.

Speaker 3 (23:09):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (23:09):
She said you can either stay with them and drown,
or you can get.

Speaker 3 (23:13):
Out, And then they jumped really far down.

Speaker 2 (23:16):
Yeah, but they landed fine.

Speaker 3 (23:17):
I guess did they roll?

Speaker 2 (23:19):
I don't know. They didn't show that.

Speaker 3 (23:21):
I assume that since we jumped like that, like there
see water down there.

Speaker 2 (23:25):
I assumed that it was one of those like back
to the future kind of like, uh, where he jumps,
but he's actually gonna jump on a hoverboard and he's
gonna be fine type of thing, you know what I mean?
Does that happen and back to the future, I don't remember.

Speaker 3 (23:42):
Yeah it does.

Speaker 2 (23:43):
Yeah, that's what I thought it was gonna be. And
maybe the ship could have done that. I wish it
would have. Is there anything else? Sydney spoilers?

Speaker 3 (23:51):
See, I don't have any spoilers, so I think this
will be the end of the entire episode next time
next week we will be covering season three, episode five,
where Tyrants spend eternity. So we thank you for spacing
out with us. And remember, assassination is a failure of spycraft.

Speaker 2 (24:12):
Put spycraft.

Speaker 3 (24:13):
What's up is that? From the show? Yeah says he
was me, he had abs.

Speaker 2 (24:20):
He did have abs, and he always took off his
shirt to show off his picks. Unnecessary unnecessary for him
to be shirtless.

Speaker 3 (24:28):
It was necessary for Gail.

Speaker 1 (24:30):
Thank you for spacing out with Phoebe and Jason. You
can help us out by subscribing and leaving a positive
rating or review. Remember you can contact us through email
