(00:01):
Hey everyone, it's Jason. Ijust wanted to tack on this little extra
bit here at the beginning. BBand I recorded this episode a couple days
after the finale aired, but thena couple of days after that, I
moved across the country for a newjob, so it just it took a
while to kind of get set upwhere I could edit the episode and get
it out. So I just wantto let you guys know why it's taken
so long. And then also duringthat time, we've received a little bit
(00:25):
more feedback, so I wanted toshare that right now. Carlos on Twitter
says, great finale, taking apage out of Six Feet Under his book
to show a glimpse of the character'sfuture. Nicely done. Fantastic show.
I will miss it, and tothat, I actually I haven't seen Six
Feet Under. I had a filmschool professor that was like obsessed with that
(00:46):
show. But a lot of showshave done the flash forward for their finales
and mixed results. But I wouldagree that Superstore did it really well.
And yeah, we'll definitely miss thisshow as well. I'm really glad that
it was able to stick the landingthe way it did, and then we
got some more feedback, saying beautifulending one of the most satisfying wrap ups
(01:06):
I've seen. All of it wasperfect. You'll pretty much hear BB and
I saying the same thing in thispodcast episode. We genuinely love the finale
and found very little fault with it. So that's that. Yeah, I
just wanted to include that the electrabit of feedback, and there's another comment
within the episode itself. But Ialso want to mention you've probably heard that
Bow and Cheyenne spin off is notmoving forward at NBC and so probably not
(01:32):
at all, which means I don'treally know what we're going to do with
this podcast, if we're gonna tryto put something else out on it,
if we're I mean, I kindof threw out some ideas in the actual
episode here that you'll hear in amoment. But I do want to mention
that BB and I have another podcastwe've been working on. It's kind of
been on hiatus while we were finishingup with Superstore, but we've been covering
(01:53):
Battlestar Galactica on another podcast feed calledSpacing Out with BB and Jason, and
I think I temporarily changed the nameto say spacing out with Battlestar Galactica,
just because I was annoyed that itwasn't showing up when you search battle Stargalactica.
So but the title will revert backto spacing out with BB and Jason
(02:14):
because we want to cover other thingson that show as well. So I
just want to plug that There isa link for it in the episode notes,
so that you can find it ifyou so desire. But otherwise I'll
stop talking here and get on tothe actual episode. I know Amy being
back is a very big deal,so as her best friend, I'm just
going to put to rest any possiblequestions so we can save time. Yes,
(02:38):
California is warm. No, Zephyrdoes not have those egg shaped nap
pods. Yes, she is roughlythe same weight as when she left.
And yes, Parker is still frailand practically translucent. No. Actually,
Parker is thriving in California. Heloves it, both kids do, and
so do I. But I amhappy to see all of you. Okay,
Amy, you heard me, There'sno time. Welcome to Cloud nine,
(03:06):
a Superstore podcast. I'm Jason andI'm BB, and we're talking about
the final two episodes Superstore. Yes, the final the finale, yes,
and we're going to try to talkabout them separately. It kind of feels
weird to go back to the secondto last one right after watching that finale.
That finale was intensely great. Iloved it. But yeah, let's
(03:30):
talk about the setup first. Sothis one sets it up Season six,
episode fourteen, Perfect Store, whichaired on March twenty fifth, twenty twenty
one, Written by Owen Ellickson andLaura McCrary and directed by Victor Nelly Junior.
And of course this is like ourfinal podcast on the show, but
(03:50):
if you do want to reach outto us still you can, and if
we get continue getting feedback, we'llprobably record something and address it. Yeah,
so you can find us via emailSuperstore Podcast at gmail dot com,
or we send us a message onFacebook or Twitter at Superstore Pod. Yes,
we are still working on another podcastas well. That's been on a
(04:12):
site Hiatus, which is spacing Out, And that's like our sci fi inspired
podcast where we do Battlestar Galactica, but we also do other things. Yeah,
it's called spacing Out with BB andJason. Yeah, be specific,
and yeah, we kind of wastoo much to do to podcasts at once.
So yeah, I'm kind of gladthis one is over so we can
focus on the sci fi and getlike the ball rolling on new shows.
(04:36):
Yeah, because have y'all seen WandaVision? Never heard of it? No,
So this episode, where do westart? It's Carol? Do you want
to start with her? Do youseek her like velvety track suits from the
(04:57):
nineties? Yes, yeah, wecan talk about that. She got some
money. Yeah, not as muchas everyone thought though. No. The
whole setup is that, like thestore is closing, like Zephyra is getting
rid of the Cloud nine stores andthey're doing online only. Yeah, so
most of the stores, so they'retrying to save this one in particular.
(05:20):
Zephyr is shifting most of Cloud nine'sbusiness online, so they're gonna be closing
some stores some Oh okay, wellwhat's someone like for? And everyone's freaking
out except Carol. I guess thatwas what brought us to her. Oh
because am I settlement? Hey Istill need this job to keep me grounded.
(05:45):
That's funny. I was not expectingher to even be there anymore.
But Jonah is still technically with thelawyer lady too. Yeah, so they're
still around in this episode, andthat was interesting to see them because Jonah
in the begin I mean they're like, Jonah, what should we do?
And he couldn't answer it. I'mjust trying to be realistic. I mean
we've been flattened by these guys overand over. I just, yeah,
(06:10):
I don't know what to say.Hey, I'm not sure that's an idea
so much as a downer. Somaybe next time, just don't stop the
meeting if you don't have anything.Yeah, And that was kind of like
Jonah being speechless was like, Oh, there's not really any hope here.
Is there a reality check for real? Yeah, because he's the one that
would rally everyone. Yeah, he'sthe hopeless romantic that's always seen like the
(06:31):
positive outcome of like a dire situationor how to like push against the powers
that make those things, you know. Yeah, So he doesn't know,
and he tries to talk to hisgirlfriend about it and she's like, yeah,
yeah, she's not offering him anything. And I think we kind of
get the contrast with his little likenews interview speech at the end, like
(06:57):
he's being inspired I guess by Amy'sthere and just seeing everyone and at the
end, there's a news report andhe volunteers himself to try to change the
narrative because something horrible happens in thestore on their day that they have to
be perfect to convince the corporate womanwho doesn't know Amy to like keep the
(07:21):
store as one of the ones thatget to stay open by Zephyrra and it
kind of works. What do youthink, Like, do you think that
they're actually saved? I don't thinkthey're saved. We know that right Well,
yeah they're not, but they're becominga fulfillment center, so a few
people are going to keep their job. Yeah, they kind of keep us
(07:43):
in the dark about that. Thesepeople are my family. I grew up
here, I spent half of mylife. Amy, we're not closing this
one? What really that has greatsquare footage? And I says central it'll
make a perfect fulfillment center. Idon't know. He didn't really do much.
He just kind of voiced his likesadness about how special the store is
(08:05):
to him. We just we keeptrying to show everybody that we're the perfect
store, and the truth is we'renot. Okay, we're just us.
And it was like everybody was acknowledgingthat it was weird and awkward that Amy
was there. Yep, because Amyshows up in this episode and they have
a meeting because she's supposed to vouchfor them and Sandra. They get like
(08:28):
a full update on everything Jonah hasdone for Yes Andrew. Besides, it
doesn't matter Jonah's seeing someone. Ohwell, that's great for Jonah's none of
my business. It's my lawyer. And she's a redhead, so safe bet
is. She's like the filthiest freakin the world. Dona, No,
I'm begging you all, please stop. Also, Amy, you should know
Kelly came back although nothing happened. Why should she know that? And he
(08:50):
also asked Nia out, But she'sa lesbian at least that's what she told
him. No, I am alesbian. Doesn't matter. He's all about
Amy now. They Yeah, likeAmy shows up and it's like super awkward,
and then they have a meeting wherethey update everyone on everybody's business,
Like Amy answers questions about California, and then all the co workers tell us
(09:11):
Jonah's business. Yeah. Sandra wasso good in this episode because she's like
you think I don't know. She'svery Sandra in this episode with Jonah and
Amy. Yes, there's a lotof like they talk about how like Amy
(09:31):
left and she's like worried, likeis he sad about it or what?
Like? Yeah, I think that'sthe next episode. Oh really Yeah,
what happened in this one then withAmy and Jonah? Besides awkward, I
mean I was kind of it.And then they they made their little googly
eyes together and basically not address theirrelationship that much, but they did make
(09:52):
googly eyes at the at the interviewat the end. Yeah, Hey,
it really means a lot that youcame back here even knowing you'd have to
deal with the Jonah at all.Yeah. Well, I mean it's less
weird than I thought it would be. It's actually kind of nice. What
else about this episode? Did youlike? I like the foot stuff of
severed feet? Yeah, that wasreally creepy. Oh my god, Oh
(10:13):
my god. Hey, Justine calmeddown. Well that's the right reaction.
There's like eight severed feet in there. Oh my god, Oh my god.
This fucking a bag, bro awhole bag because we had that,
we even we've had a whole bodyinside of wall and this isn't the first
foot they found. No, thishas been a recurring issue and it creeps
(10:35):
me out. This will be likesomething that I hope they address one day,
or do you think this will besomething that like, I don't know.
For me, it's always been amystery, like why is there so
many feet? The foot guy?Well, I mean we were is that
what so that you think that answersit? Yeah? Creepy, right,
creepy. Now if you watch itagain, you know, and we'll never
(10:58):
look at Elias the same. Inever will, even when he's like comedic
relief. Yeah, I know it'snext episode. Let's mention Elias is related
to Glynn in Drusha. He's Drusiha'sbrother. Oh so that's yeah, that
makes sense a little bit. Butyeah, it was a good episode.
I liked. I liked the dramaand the fact that like everybody was trying
(11:22):
to pretend to be perfect. Yeah. The one thing I was hoping for
is there was a really funny thingI don't remember, maybe like season two
or something, where they talked aboutthe day they had like a perfect day
with no issues. I think itwas March fourteenth. Yeah, I might
be wrong on the date, butI always thought that was like a funny
gag that they could have brought backat any point, and they never did.
(11:43):
And I thought the title being perfectStore, that they would be referencing
that perfect day they had. Yeah, that would have been that would have
been a little just a little bitlike a perfect little if you know,
you know, well, yeah,we had this severed feet and Glenn's reaction
to it, which was he washaving a really tough time with the morality.
(12:05):
Effoot, he really was, andeven Dina was kind of like,
there's no way we're moving this.Yeah, so and that's kind of what
this was such a good moment. When Marcus Fice, no, no,
you understand, there's a bunch ofhere, I just kind of move these
(12:28):
out of bedding because like, whyare there drinks here? And the boom
six seven feet? Well it's eight, but it's fine. Just calm down
and we'll explain everything. I'm sorry, did you just say severed feet?
They just fell off like acorn. Why are you guys acting like this is
normal. He's so horrified, fuckingMarcus, He's super horrified. He's like,
(12:52):
this is the only thing I'm evergoing to think about when I come
into the store. He's narrating theirworst nightmare, and it was so nice
to see that. And then youcut to all the cops and people outside.
That was really good. Who goesup to him and like just says
(13:13):
his name and it's like, stop, was that Amyah? Jonah? Yesh,
this is so disgusting and scary. This is what I'll think about every
time I come into the store.Marcus stop because Jonah was like kind of
going along with it really hard, right, Yeah, he was trying to
(13:33):
pivot it to be talking about aTV show or something, you know.
Yeah. Yeah. And then thisepisode also had Garrett really like caring about
the fact that Amy hasn't like specificallycalled him out to say hello. She
said, out everyone this morning. No, she said, hi everyone.
Okay, so I'm just supposed toshare a hello with Elias Nod. Dude,
(13:54):
I'm forty years old. I thinkshe's just a little preoccupied. Yeah,
right, of course, I'm kidding. It would be funny if I
cared the right. That was alittle I don't know, I don't know
how I felt about that. Imean, it just didn't seem to go
anywhere, to be honest, Like, I think it was just plot device
for him to like walk in onher phone call. Yeah, but that
(14:15):
didn't like really cause any problems. It was just like a little bit of
awkward. You know. I thinkit's really messed up that you came all
the way back here and you haven'teven said hi to me. I'm so
sorry, Megan. My neighbor justbarged in that work from home life.
Am I right? Also, youleft your trash cans in my driveway?
Yeah, but it didn't get addressedat all. Really. Yeah, it
(14:37):
feels like something that maybe they hadthe cut scenes out for time, maybe
because I feel like the reason shewould maybe avoid him is because like him
and Joanah are really close. Yeah, that would be the only thing that
I would think of. And Idon't know why she wouldn't. I don't
know address it in a way,But yeah, that was that was like
me I was. I was moreinterested in like how Carol was like flaunting
(15:03):
her stuff, and I don't know, it was just interesting to see everyone
else. I forgot. What didChian do in this episode? Cheyenne was
present, Yeah, she's more presentin the next one. Yeah, I
know. I mean she was partof like when Amy and Jonah ran into
each other for the first time, and she's the one that didn't tell Jonah.
Oh God, Chyan, I thoughtyou were going to tell him I
(15:24):
was coming. Yeah, I wasgoing to, but I figured it would
be awkward. Oh well, I'mglad we avoided that. So she let
this awkwardness happen later. And thenlike Mateo's worried about where he's gonna find
work, and he's trying to hitup Carol. Maybe we should just all
ask Carol for money. I mean, I guess that's possible. She might
(15:46):
need a personal assistant. Maybe youthink she'd be go with pain you cash
into the table. Of course, that's how all rich people pay their immigrants.
This is where Mateo's a personal assistant, but for free. Because I
remember he was holding flowers because theyput flowers everywhere as like a way to
make the store better somehow. Yeah, they put flowers everywhere, and he
(16:10):
was holding a bunch of flowers andmopping at the same time. And I
was like, that's not clever, that's not useful or accomplishing anything. And
Channe also had that thing at thebeginning where she stops the meaning to ask
for what Jonah has to say whenhe has nothing to say, and then
she tells him, don't interrupt meetingsif you have no ideas? Jonah,
(16:34):
What do you think about? Likeall the stuff they were doing to make
the store all fancy? I likedit a little bit. Actually. I
really enjoyed all the flowers and thetoilet, Yes, that was really good.
And then like the soft furnishines inthe food place, like they made
the food court look nicer. Yeah, and they were cooking all that cookie
(16:57):
dough. They had a mound ofcookie dough that the customer was like,
how much'll smell great? Howmuch? Oh, they're not for sale,
they're not even shaping the cookies. It's just a mound. How much
for the mount? So it wasreally I liked it. I thought it
was funny and like they were like, put something up so she doesn't step
(17:21):
on that fucked up pile. Thatwas good until the foot thing happened.
It was really good. Yeah, all right, what's next? Any other
thoughts on this? This episode? The reporter was really funny. Yeah,
she was like thanks for nothing,Jonah. Why do you think he or
(17:42):
she? Well, let's be honest, he sees your store as an ideal
dumping ground, Well, Natalie,he probably likes it for the same reason
everybody else. Does you know, our fast and friendly service, our convenient
parking, and our strong sense ofcommunity. I don't think he answered a
question. Yeah, I like thereporter a lot. I thought she was
(18:03):
good. Yeah, it was.It was a good episode, and I'm
trying to think of it independently becausewe we watch them back to back as
they intended this too, but itwas a good one to end on,
like, this was a good transitionto the next episode. Two. Yeah,
I can see why they paired themtogether, and they kind of work
separately but also as a unit.So I guess we'll move on. But
(18:26):
we're here every single day, whenit rains, when it snows, when
it tornadoes, when there's a plague, and you're all safe at home except
for when you come here to cough. We're here just just trying to get
you what you need, and allwe want is to keep doing that.
(18:47):
This is season six, episode fifteen, All sales final. Oh damn,
they went there. Huh. Ilike that title. It's really good.
That's a weird thing to be intoby, like the titles of like finales
and pilots. Although pilots often justhave the name pilot. Sometimes I have
created names. But it's also airedon March twenty fifth, twenty twenty one,
(19:11):
directed by Ruben Fleischer, and there'sa teleplay by Jonathan Green and Gabe
Miller and the story by Justin Spitzer, who was the creator of the show.
That was the show runner for awhile, and I guess he came
back for some the last year. And Amy for the name tag Vangeline.
I haven't said that in a while. Right, where should we start the
(19:34):
beginning. Amy returns to the storeand gets thrown into working by Glenn.
I'm so happy to see you.I wasn't gonna not say so short staffed
today. No, I was inthe super If we just do whatever you
can do. This is like Godsent me a literal angel. Yeah.
(20:00):
The greeter doesn't know who the hellshe. She's like, I don't care,
really, who are you? Youknow that person that exists, you
know, like in your when you'renew at work and then some former co
worker for other people shows up andthey like gass them up and are like
super excited to see them, andyou're like, I don't know, yeah,
(20:21):
like I've been sweating in here fora couple of months and that person
hasn't mattered. So yeah, canI help you with something? Oh?
Hi, it's Amy. We metlike a month ago. I thought I'd
show up on the last day andsurprise everybody, but so nice, what's
the surprise? Just me? Oh? I thought it would be like donuts
or something. I don't know you. But obviously Sandra was like super excited
(20:45):
to see her too, right, that was the reaction she was looking for.
Yes, Sandra was like lit up. She loves Amy, and I
think it's interesting that she's developed thislove for Amy. It's kind of like
how Dina grew to be best friendswith Amy that she mentioned that in that
last episode. She's like, I'mher best friend. I will answer all
(21:08):
questions. So she gets to workand she wears her vest and Jonah sees
her and they have like a semipositive interaction. Yeah, so that was
good for them. We learned thatJonah and Hannah broke up off screen.
This episode started with one month later. Yeah, because she went back to
(21:30):
California. Amy was only there totry to fix the closing. So now
everything's gone. Oh, we didn'tmention the end of the last episode,
Amy quit her job. No,you can't just do this to us.
Well, Amy, you'll keep yourjob. No, I won't because I
(21:51):
quit, which I really know thatshe needed to do that. It was
just an Amy thing. Yeah, that was the one thing. I'm like,
I don't know if that's as meaningfulas she intended it to be.
Yeah, she still had to goback to California. But I guess she's
just like fuck cloud nine. Yeah, but she's still in corporate, Like
nothing changes for fucking Namy. Idon't get it, Like unless she's working
(22:12):
somewhere like that's like not a corporation, or they hire executive directors or whatever
not. No, I don't buyit. Yeah, I was lame.
Sorry, I'm not sorry. Youknow what. Amy is back and it's
the last day everything's on sale.Yeah, and she's having feelings. I
(22:33):
think I made a mistake not marryingJonah. Ye think I just n't anymore.
She's been pretty upset too. Sandrawas very vocal about how she felt
about Amy and Jonah. Yeah, she like couldn't handle You think it's like
how far behind Amy and Jonah arefrom, like where Sandra is in their
(22:57):
storyline. She's like y'all. I'msupposed to have been together, so how
dare you not be? And whenAmy asks Jonah about his current breakup thing,
she acts all surprised, and thenDina's like, you already knew that,
(23:18):
and Amy's like, no, Dina'sexcuse for why she said that was
so wrong. I had no ideathat you two had broken up. Yes,
you did. I told you theybroke up like ten minutes ago.
No you did it. Oh no, I didn't tell you that it was
(23:42):
the other Latina employee. And youall look the same to me because I'm
a racist, So that's something Ishould probably work on. And then what
Amy said on top of that wasalso like oh girl, because she said
she still thinks Sandra's Lookedina. No, but we know Sandra Stina. No.
(24:06):
Oh that was just it was awkwardand untrue. I feel like it
was an obvious lie. Yeah,so, Dina, we learned that she
is going to be the manager ofthe new fulfillment center. I'm the new
fulfillment center manager, but I canonly keep five employees and I can't make
up my mind. I still Ithink we've speculated that more than one hundred
(24:30):
people work there. At least morethan you know because of the shifts and
the night crew, which we neverever meet, right, but yeah,
so yeah, she has to pickfive people and she's having a hard time.
Marcus was mentioned though, Yeah, and Marcus is one that was selected
by Sandra to stay. Sandra wasquick on that. I love that energy
(24:52):
that she brought to that that scene, Why the am next to your name
because I'm your system manager. Itwas so good and she does the whole
like mic drop moment twice it's okaywith you. I don't want to be
presumptuous, No, you're in.I was going for like a cool,
badass moment. Yeah I got thatgood. Yeah you don't need to do
(25:15):
Okay, you did all. Wegot to see like kind of both sides
of Sandra there though, like superconfident one the storms out and then the
the one that's kind of unsure ofherself as she doubles back. But I
loved it because she ended on theconfident one. Yeah regardless, Like that
was really good to see Sandra likethat and to see the growth was so
(25:38):
good and she's like I'm working withyou, We're doing this, like oh
my heart. Was good to seethem doing that and Dina didn't shit on
her, No, which was greatbecause Dina used to shit on Sandra and
it was nice to see that,to have that moment where yeah, I
mean like early seasons, Dinah,I would have never accepted Sandra as her
(26:03):
as system manager. Oh no,no, but yeah, it was really
nice to see that growth and development. What else you got there? I
saw Bo Bo was there a lot, wasn't he? He was getting scheming
with those machine a smart time tobuy a new washer? Oh actually Bo
wants to buy them all. Ohyeah, get him from mad Sheet and
we sell him to the suckers.Make that scrilla. What if he can't
(26:25):
sell them, then I open upa laundry mad Come on, man,
think use those glasses. He's alittle schemer. And he that he had
a plan and like a backup planready. Yeah, and then Cheyenne offered
for Mateo to do laundry at theirhouse, but he's like for a reasonable
fee. He's like, I can'tbe losing money on this. I'm gonna
(26:49):
buy them all. Okay, Yeahthat was really good and Mateo is like,
oh he's so anxious in this, you can feel the terror. Well
yeah, because I mean, he'sthe one that can't just get a job.
No, it's really hard to geta job under the table. He
(27:10):
tried it with Carol and she can'tsustainably do that, like because she's a
dumbast. But that was that wasreally good to include that, Like,
and the juxtaposition of him with Glennand how they're having this moment where Glenn's
saying, I'm sixty and you're undocumented. We're the same person, and it's
(27:32):
like, are we Though it's funnyyou're undocumented and I'm over sixty and America
doesn't want either of us to workanymore, right, but I'm under constant
fair of deportation. And you getdiscounts of movie theaters so not new releases.
Wow, must be awful to livein Terrorristlers or not. No,
I mean there are some parallels, but it's not not the same. It's
(27:56):
not the same at all. Andlike, I'm glad that Glenn was able
to create an opportunity for him,but it's like, it sucks that that's
how we had to like, that'show we deal with it. You know,
there's nothing systemically that can change forMateo to make it a better situation,
So we have to have somebody orsomething happen where that situation is made
(28:21):
better. That's just not him justgetting papers or you know, being undocumented,
Like somebody has to be able torecognize that that's an issue and then
find a way to work around thecurrent system to make it, like I
don't know, just so that hecan survive. Because Matteo's character, like,
uh so they did this thing wherefucking Glenn was recording interviews? Did
(28:45):
you secretly record our job interviews?Yeah, but you know, just so
i'd have proof in case someone accusedme of not hiring them unless they did
me sexual favors. I mean PastorCraig was falsely accused thirty times by women
and man. They played everybody Addy'sinterview and when they played Mataos that was
the first episode, yeah, becausehe started the first episode, Yes,
(29:07):
and it was I don't know.I teared up when I saw Mateo's interview
because it's like his interview and likethe day that he presented himself on the
first day, Like all of thattracks so well with his character. I
saw to say that if you giveme the chance, I will work harder
than anyone You know, I willliterally dig through concrete with my bare hands
(29:29):
until their bloody stumps and I haveto do stuff with my feet. You
know. I could use a hardworker like that at Sturgison Sons. Really,
thank you. So we do likedenim or leather aprons, like a
broad denim. Okay, I loveit. I love it. Yeah,
because he was there to work sohard and this was before he knew that
(29:51):
he was undocumented. Yeah, soit was just hustler. Yeah, and
I thought that was such a Idon't know, it was really nice to
see kind of the tenacity and thevibrancy that this character had, And it
was I don't know, I wasjust really touched to kind of recall how
his story has moved through this seasonand through the whole show as an arc.
(30:15):
Yeah, and I like that therewasn't some like miraculous thing or like
he's suddenly is going to be documented, or like there wasn't some unrealistic like
saving of him. Like I mean, it was a little far fetched that
Glenn, the diabetic man, who'spresumably very poor because he has like a
million kids, would be able toopen a hardware store on a whim.
(30:37):
Like there's something there. That's likea little fantastical to me, just just
a little yeah, but it's afantasy that I'm like, I want for
this character to have, Like, that's a beautiful thing for him to go
on to do. And I lovethat because I used to work at a
hardware store that wasn't like that.I wish, right, But I loved
(31:00):
it when Matteo's like denhim or leatheraprons denhim. It was so good.
And what they did in the episodetwo that I really enjoyed was that they
showed vignettes of the future as Garrettwas closing it out. H Well,
I want to say that I calledthat Glenn was going to open the store
(31:21):
and hire people to work there. You remember that last episode, Yes,
yes, and you called it thethey're going to do something with the stars
on the ceiling. That was cutetoo, And I do like how they
did that when your first mention andI was like, Oh, that's going
to be awful if they do that. And then when this episode was going,
I'm like, I kind of hopeyou put so stars in the ceiling,
and then the way they did itwas so perfect. It was really
(31:44):
cute and it was just a moment. It wasn't like a big deal at
the show. It's just part oftheir history. Yes, it was very
well done. I really really enjoyedthis final episode. It ties up some
loose ends. We find out thatElias is a fucking guy. Yes,
good god, that's so creepy.Brett has a little eye moment, but
(32:09):
he never speaks, so we willnever know. Didn't get that. I'm
okay with that. There are somethings that I feel like are worth not
knowing. Yeah, they gave theyshowed us myrtle. They did when she
was drinking, when she was whendshe do it with that tire they were
doing like a catwalk. Yeah.It was one of the episodes where they
(32:31):
were in the store after hours, right, Yeah, were locked in.
Yeah. It was so good.It was very cool, and it was
nice to see pre COVID things, right because this episode was still COVID.
But then they like because they wereflashing forward, we had a vision of
(32:52):
a potential future of like post COVID. Yeah, everyone at that. Yeah
that was kind of beautiful too.Yeah, that was that was a really
touching sequence. And Jerry was thereand it was so good, and Matteo
and and uh Eric or whatever. They're married and it's so cute, and
(33:14):
I'm like, that's probably hopefully goingto be like the next like show is
going to be like Cheyenne and Mateoand Bo and Eric. Well I was
gonna mention this later, but theyactually announced that they're not moving forward with
Bow and Cheyenne. No why atleast that's what NBC said, So maybe
(33:35):
they got picked up somewhere else.Unlikely, but ah sadness. Well,
yeah, that's why it's good thatwe got such like a good closure with
everybody regardless. And we also hadDina asking Garrett to be your boyfriend when
the store closes, do you wantto wi keep banging and banging like as
my boyfriend? Yeah? Okay, cool, that was cute. That was
(34:02):
super cute. I like how thevery like straightforward she was like what did
she say to him? Do youwant to keep hanging and banging? But
as my boyfriend? That was sogood. You can tell this lady owns
a truck without a radio when wefind out why she hates Glenn, Yeah,
(34:27):
that's what we get in the interview. I also worked in the bird
department at Petco. Oh god,you know, I don't get how people
can keep birds as pets. They'redisgusting rats with feathers. Uh huh.
Let's move on, because he hatesbirds and she loves birds. Yes,
that was interesting to find out aboutGlenn too, because Jerusha used to like
(34:49):
embroider birds and woodland creatures on people'soutfits or like she could tell you what
embroidered animal you were. Yeah.Who else did we see in the job
interviews? We saw Amy? Yeah, we saw Jonah. It was Amy
like cgi young. Yes, shewas Amy. You were hot boner alert
too. She's a teenager. Yeah, but I was a teenager then too,
(35:12):
so it's not weird. So gladI came back for this. We
saw we saw Garrett with hair,Yeah, Garrett was rocking his interview.
Yeah, we saw Dina, andwe saw Jonah and Cheyenne with her blue
hair. It was good. Wedidn't see everybody's interview, No, but
Jonah's interview is what sparked he andAmy to have their conversation that was more
(35:34):
honest and open, I guess becausehe was still angry I think in the
previous episode or the previous conversation.Yeah, when they were at the greeting
cards and Yeah. They had anawkward interaction where he's like, I'm not
here whenever you're just like unscheduled orwhatever. I'm happy that you've figured it
out. I really really am,but I'm not just I'm not just something
(35:59):
you can schedule for whenever you're free. You know, she didn't relate to
him how serious she was about likewanting to go back with him, too,
because she told the girls earlier thatshe's like regretted not marrying him,
and that's kind of a big dealto say that, and he didn't know
that she was saying it so awkwardly. Fuckingmy, But yeah, they got
back together. Did they have anotherkid? Yeah? And the okay,
(36:22):
the forwards beds and babies right, and Carter I think okay. And we
saw that Emma was wearing I thinka Northwestern hoodie. Damn I did not
notice all that. But yeah,I saw Emma and I was like,
oh my god, she's so grown. Yeah, and I wonder if they
c gied her a little bit onthat, but it was cute. Yeah.
(36:43):
And then so we had, youknow, Garrett tries to sign off
with the very you know, byebye. Too cool for this attention shoppers,
please bring your final purchases up tocheck out, because this store is
about to close forever on behalf ofeveryone here at Cloud Dyne. I'd just
like to say bye bye. Hedoubles back to be sentimental, and I
feel like they've done a good jobwith his character of like building to kind
(37:06):
of this point where he would actuallyfeel something about this job, not just
shrug it off, but really liketake an opportunity to be like, this
is my final announcement. Yeah,it was cool, and that this place
did mean something to him and hedoes care about these people and they might
be family, Like, yeah, yeah, it was really cool because we
had him earlier in the episode tryingto like brush off the idea that any
(37:27):
of them are going to ever interactagain. Yeah, we're not going to
the Applebee's even And Garrett, forthe contact list, you wrote email at
email dot email. Oh really,it's too cool to keep in touch with
everybody, just being realistic. Man, Look, we work together and now
we're gonna go work with other people. I'd rather skip the part where we
email for a week trying to plansome fictional group trip. But we are
doing a group trip because their planwas to either go to Kansas City or
(37:51):
Tokyo. Where do you want togo, Jason with all your co workers?
Like Vegas? Vegas? I thinkTokyo a good one. I mean,
I feel like they should maybe havefound the middle ground between Kansas City
and Tokyo. Maybe like try likeNew York City or Philadelphia or something,
(38:14):
Miami, New Orleans or something.Kansas City is like a couple of hours.
Yeah, h On a personal level, like I'm just leaving a job
after ten years of working there andso like all this stuff where it's like
it's their last day and the lasttime they're doing everything like that all kind
(38:35):
of hit me pretty hard. Itwas really good. I agree. I
was definitely like teary eyed at theend when I saw them all at the
barbecue. Yeah, that fucking barbecue. I think because of the pandemic.
That was one of the things thatreally caused me to like, just I
miss that shit and I want usto be able to have it one day
(38:59):
altogether. And that was really sweetthat they put him like that. I
don't know. Yeah, it wasa really good episode, and I'm sad
that Cheyenne and in her own show, we did get to see that Cheyenne
was working at the news and couldyou imagine that that show Sturges and Sons.
That'd be a cool show, that'dbe a great show. What the
fuck, NBC, y'all are sostupid. It doesn't have to be about
(39:23):
Cheyenne. It could be about Sturgesand Suns, just because you don't have
America Ferrera on the cast. Andthen you'd have Bo and his laundromat like
next door. Yes, they're allon the strip mall or something. Oh
and then Jonah, who saw wasrunning for some sort of office. Yeah,
(39:45):
he was in Saint Louis doing somecampaigning poster things. Yeah, and
I think that really related to likewe saw him doing an interview on the
previous episode and trying to pivot allthose questions. We've always seen him trying
to fight for his fellow man.Yeah, he's political, he's a teamster.
Yeah, so that was a goodthing. I didn't really considered that
(40:07):
for him, but like that totallymade sense. Yeah, he's in politics.
He seems like a politician to me. Annoying as hell. Yeah,
did we see anyone else and likewhat they go on to do? Mmmm?
I mean we talked about everybody.Yeah, I mean we saw them
all at that barbecue. Yeah, notably absent. No, I mean yeah,
(40:30):
that's the end. Yeah, thoughit definitely gave me what I wanted
from it. Yeah, it feltlike a good ending. I can't fault
it for much. No any othernotes on your thing, not that I
wrote down. We got one messagefrom someone. Oh j Free twenty one
on Twitter said, absolutely loved it. I know the co host dislikes Amy
(40:52):
slash America, but it was reallyheartwarming and gave closure to all the characters.
Who's the co host? I gotyou? Oh, I don't like
I don't like America Ferrera. Youknow, it's not that I don't like
her. I don't know her. She's an actress that I that is in
shows like I love her body ofwork. Outside of this, I think
(41:15):
mostly it's like the character of Amyand how I don't know. Well,
I think you've been very clear onthat before, but in this episode.
I guess these last two episodes,I don't think she really rubbed you the
wrong way. I didn't get thatvibe from you. No, Yeah,
she was okay, she was like, we knew what she was here to
do. Yeah, she's here toget with Jonah to complete her character arc.
(41:37):
And yeah, they did that, and it felt right. You've been
here six years. Why, Idon't know. It's a good job.
No, it's not. It's aterrible job. Not that bad, Jonah,
Why did you stay here? Whydo you think Amy? Yeah,
it was good. It wasn't great, it wasn't spectacular. I still didn't
get a wedding at the end,that's true. I'm sorry. I'm a
(42:01):
Mexican American woman, okay, andwhenever the end of the show happens,
you get a wedding. But she'snot Mexican, so maybe this is just
cultural differences. But she was good. I think that was the character.
You know. I just don't likepeople that act like that character more or
(42:23):
less because she was awkward and decisiveand mostly weak in a lot of moments.
And it's not I don't you knowwhat, If anything, it's good
to have that representation because it meansthat there are many versions of women of
color that are being portrayed, right, Like we're allowed to be like in
(42:44):
inadequate or weak or whatever, likewe exist regardless. It's just like for
me, that character was just lackluster. I want to say, but that's
just me, you know, LikeI have different relationship with her work and
how she's been portrayed, so Ialways want her to be like full and
(43:05):
she was just like, did Amyever feel like an actual mom in the
show? Like, yeah, reallynot not every day? No, but
she was a mom every day.I don't know, I don't know.
I appreciated the way they tied alot of stuff back to the pilot episode,
and especially the way that we're remindedhow Amy started and she really felt
(43:27):
like she was stuck, and howJonah really did bring out this side of
her that could like have fun andsee that things could be better. Yeah.
I hated how cheesy you were.I hated how woke you were.
I hated how often you use theword artisan. But most of all,
I hated how you believe that lifecould be better than it was, and
yet here we are, and mylife is so much better than it was
(43:54):
because of you. And they dida good job of hitting those flashbacks and
stuff, and those flashbacks were reallythey were really creative and really cool to
kind of see that because I wasn'tsure how they would touch back on those
characters and their beginnings and these interviewtapes were funny he introduces them and how
(44:19):
he got the idea from his pastorbeing falsely accused of doing some sketchy stuff
with men and women. So thatwas kind of a funny dig at the
pastor. But yeah, I likethe flashback and it was nice to see
Amy succeed in her life. Yeah, and she was doing just more like
(44:39):
ambiguous corporate stuff with charts and yeahrafts. I liked, how I mean,
throughout the series they've kind of pepveredin references to the Sturgis and Sun's store,
and I kind of appreciate more nowthe Loel Anderson episode that really like
(45:00):
brought it back to the forefront sothat we could close with that with Glenn.
Yeah, that dog Food, it'sa weird episode that I like that
guy too though. That's the thing, Like, I really like that actor
who played Little, but in thisepisode he just didn't hit me as funny
at all. It was nothing funny. He was just bead and shitty.
(45:23):
Well that's that's all I mean,thanks for I mean, yeah, I
don't know America Ferrera still has work. I know that. I hope the
other people get jobs because I knowin a pandemic. It's hard. Yeah.
So yeah, I mean we're probablydon't have the Bow and giante'spin off
web series or something, come on, Sturges and Suns. But as far
(45:47):
as this podcast goes, like,I don't know, I don't know.
We'll be putting something else out onthis. We'll rewatch the series and maybe
like every season or something kind ofrevisited something. I don't know there.
Oh that's yeah, you're just throwingshit on the wall and seeing what sticks.
Huh. Yeah, well I reallywant to go back and rewatch a
(46:07):
series, That's what I'm saying.Oh, now that we see the end,
yeah, okay, let's watch episodeone. But are we doing a
podcast with it again? Like, well, I don't want to do every
episode again, No, that's alot, but it'd be cool to like
binge. I want to binge.Yeah, that's what I was saying.
If we like rewatched every season andkind of jump back in, how it
(46:28):
the reflections the spoilers. Yeah,I don't know, that'd be something maybe
just just a thought anyway. AndI don't hate America Ferrera, Okay,
I just don't like Amy. Amy'sa fictional character played by America Ferrera and
she's fine. She's still working incorporate married to a politician. Yeah,
(46:51):
any any other thoughts on this finale. I really like the design of the
Sturges and Son's logo with a keyand the denim aprons. Then yeah,
it was good. Yeah, goodstuff. Yeah, have a heavenly day.
I do want to oh not yet. I do want to say thank
you to everyone who's listened to thispodcast along the way, and it's been
(47:15):
fun doing it. Yeah, nowyou can tell your friends to watch it
because some people won't watch a showuntil it's over. That's true. It's
it'll be a good binge. Yeah, and it's six seasons. Yeah.
Maybe there'll be a movie maybe likethe one with Denzel Washington where he works
at a lows and there's bad guysthat come in and he shoots them with
a nail gun. Have you seenthis that? But Cloud nine like it
(47:42):
would be like a version like thatplus home alone kind of situation. That's
what I'm thinking. I don't know. And despite what some people like to
occasionally comment, we don't hate thisshow. Well, yeah, I really
love the show. Yeah, watchit. This is the second time i've
watched it, not spend hundreds ofhours on this podcast show. I hate
(48:06):
that's true. We just when youlove something, you you can be critical
of it and still love it.You know that means that you you love
it enough to actually see its lawsand still love it exactly. Yeah.
Because and I'm also like a personwho loves trash, So I don't think
like not that I'm saying this showis trash because I'm sure it's been nominated
(48:27):
for Emmy's or something, right,I don't know about that. Oh that's
sad. Well, this almost Emmywho were nominated show is really good.
I don't know it's it's really good. And I think you if you got
through it, I think you shouldtell people to watch it. Ask your
cashier if they've seen it when you'regoing to the grocery store, because I
think anybody who works in any sortof corporation would really enjoy this show because
(48:53):
it's very telling of it, likeit's very good to see the critique and
it's not. I mean, thefirst couple of seasons are little. There's
some things that are done that arelike they did not handle that well,
but they keep up with the times. I think does have a depths.
Yeah, that's it. Yes,have a heavenly life. All sales are

(49:52):
That's not my thing, but itdid just occur to me that this is
this is the end. Get mewrong. It's a job. If jobs
were fun, they wouldn't pay usto do it. But occasionally there were
moments that weren't so bad, andfor whatever reason, those are the only
(50:14):
things I can remember right now.You know, most jobs suck ninety nine
percent of the time, so youreally, you really got to enjoy those
moments that don't at any rate.Thank you for shopping with us. Cloud
