(00:00):
So Cloud nine just thinks that thepandemic is over, because I'm pretty sure
nobody told the pandemic that. Yougot to look at it from corporus perspective.
They love money and they don't careif we die. Ah, yeah,
that makes sense. Welcome to Cloudnine, a Superstar podcast. I'm

(00:23):
Jason, I'm BB and Welcome tothe podcasts where we talk about Superstore.
No, don't come to the store. This episode was so weird. We're
talking about season six, episode four, Prize Wheel, which aired on November
nineteenth, twenty twenty. Written byLaura McCreary and directed by Ryan Case.

(00:44):
Yes, one comes in with theCOVID. He comes in hot with COVID.
Yeah, he has all his COVIDdonuts. This morning I found out
that Beb from my church has COVID. She seemed fine at choir practice last
night. I mean a couple oftimes, but I thought that was from
the high notes. So basically,Dina's left to be in charge, and

(01:04):
that's like disastrous. Yeah, let'stalk about that for a moment, because
yeah, surely there have been dayswhere there's not the general manager in the
store and Dina's been the next incharge. But Amy's there to temper her,
like you know what I mean.Yeah, so Dina's like the senior
out of everyone now used to beher and Amy. Yeah, she was

(01:26):
always Amy's senior. Yeah, butAmy knew how to guide Dina, Matato
and Cheyenne. They just kind oflet her go off the rails. They
even made it worse by even bringingup like the pressure of like all of
the shit you after all the snackyou've talked about, Glenn, people kind
of expect you to kill it rightout the gate. I don't know.
I just feel like she would havebeen in this position at some other point.

(01:47):
It was interesting to see her init now. I don't know.
I just, uh, it wasinteresting to see who she kind of singled
out in what way, and likehow she gave strikes who was like too
emotional for her nose? Yeah, just seeing like other players in her path.
It was just anyone that was doinganything that wasn't their job. Yeah.

(02:08):
So she had like infractions and things. She was writing paperwork, and
I hope Mateo didn't send any ofthose out. I don't think he did.
Yeah, I think he was usingthat opportunity to get a good gossip
Yep, he did. He wasso bad too. He's so he's just
kind of mean in this episode alittle bit he is, he's a meanie.

(02:32):
Well, he just like let Janetlike get yelled at. And then
it's about Sarah's nose job, wasn'tit because she's totally commin right. Well,
according to Nikki, she's Janet,I'm trying to work and you should
be too. Final warning Janet anyway, and then when he keeps talking about

(02:52):
that one person's nose job, yeah, Sarah Sarah. Yeah, when Sarah
was like telling everybody like her glassesare new and her hair is cut,
and he like perpetuates the like she'slying, Yeah, I didn't get a
nose job. I got new glassesand a freaking haircut. Girl. Obviously,
Like with Tayo, you're so badin this. I love it.

(03:14):
I kind of love him being bad. Is that mean? Probably? But
it was nice to see Sarah havemore lines. Yeah, And there's a
lot of characters with lines in thatbig scene. Oh sayeed and fucking Justine.
That's what set it all off,That's what set it into motion.
If Dina would have just been like, yeah, you guys can move over,

(03:35):
here. Yeah, that would haveprobably helped a lot, because their
altercation was pretty epic. She callseveryone mama, Hey, their mama hyproplastic
mama, then not your mama.Your mother lives in Sarasota. You just
can't handle women lifting up other women. And that was one of the things
that like Cheyenne was supposed to begood at, was like knowing who can
work together and who can and howto like navigate all of that. Well.

(03:59):
She tried to like soften her onthat stance, but then she like
totally shot herself in the foot ina way by reminding Dina that she's like
bit bitch about Glenn being bad athis job. I've been criticizing Glenn for
years passionately. I like to thinkI've made something of an art form out
of it. But now that it'smy turn, I kind of have to
be perfect. It was an interestingstory. I liked that storyline. It

(04:23):
was good for me both side andJustine and Dina being bad at her job
because she doesn't understand emotions in thesame way as others and how pairs can
work like and teamwork and all thatshit. She understands like efficiency, but
not the human part of it.Yeah, Like she wouldn't let Marcus look
at pictures of his nephew. Wasso awkward. That was like, I

(04:49):
understand you because I am an auntto a children, babies, and so
yeah, it's like you want tosee them. It's like horrible that you
can't see them during this pandemic. So that was really I like that they
touched that on that emotion a littlebit, like there was a moment where
it's like, that's really real fora lot of folks. No, I

(05:12):
just became an uncle and I haven'teven been able to meet my fat baby
nephew yet. I mean, lookat those rolls. You can lose a
chapstick. And it was weird howhe was like being so awkward with customer
though, yeah, what is Mark'sdoing in the front. We agreed he
stayed in the back. He's agood guy, but he's just like sometimes
subhuman, not with the customers.Dude. You could have asked Garrett or

(05:38):
what been on Jonah's interview? Thatwas a shit show. Marcus, Like,
I know he's in charge of thewarehouse, but he seems to be
the only warehouse person that just alwayswanders out into the store. Yeah,
they haven't really built any character fromthat space, any other warehouse characters.
So Glynn spends his day in thecar, sitting next to all those donuts

(06:01):
donuts guys in a fucking he betterOh my god. Glenn could be like
the character that gets sick because ofCOVID because he's like, yeah, he's
diabetic and he hangs out at superSpreader events. Yeah, so that was
kind of right. I thought thatwas good like that, it's kind of

(06:25):
obviously going to have to be Glennto be one of the first. But
then he ropes Sandra into this weirdthing because they have so everything's going around,
like this big store sale thing. They have a wheel, and Glenn's
gotta leave the day of the wheel, and that's like the whole thing.
That's what he's excited about. Yeah, everyone else is really annoyed by it,

(06:46):
Yeah, because it's just having todisinfect another thing over and over again.
Yeah, every time someone spinds it. Yeah, and giving away those
like weird cloud things, those DJclouds or something. Having discussion about his
anatomy, yeah, always that thecloud was his head and he had no
body. No, he's all body, So he has eyes in the middle

(07:08):
of his chest. That's better thanarms going out on the sides of his
head. Oh, like hell itis. And it's good to see them
have that chaotic moment at the endbecause like Dina ignores everyone's feelings and like
everyone's in their feelings about it andshe can't control it and it's like a
back and forth that's just kind oflike tiring after a little bit. Like
they could have cut that bit alittle bit more, it would have been

(07:30):
fine, But really get into thefeelings. Don't just like pretend to give
me feelings. I want to seemotherfuckers cry at work, because don't you
tell me that in that store. No one has cried at work. I
mean, at least just see.But yeah, I at the end,
I really didn't like how they hadthat aggressive Jonah moment. It was so

(07:51):
awkward, like Okay, Jonah, calm down. I really yeah, I
was ok because Jonah had his oldside journey thing that nobody cared about.
Everyone had to get their rage out. Yeah, I really want to know
what that smell was. That waslike the whole thing that I was just
like really invested in throughout the wholeepisode. The customers have been complaining about

(08:13):
a weird smell. Oh yeah,it's like our worst smell yet. It's
like two moldy sponges puked on eachother. Wow, that's that's exactly what
it is, that awful smell.Because they found a crusty teddy bear.
There was like a weird pile ofor not even it was like an oil
slick the sludge. Yeah, itwas weird. I was disgusting, and

(08:33):
they were going to start mopping itlike I was just going to spread that.
Yeah, that was a thing.Yeah, I'm glad that we're on
the same page about that. Theyshould have gotten like a dust pan situation
and seeing how much of it wouldactually just peel up, yeah, and
then dispose of it. There's alsolike a powder that you're supposed to put

(08:54):
over wet things or things that aregelatinous whenever there's a chemical bill on the
floor. So the safety hazards alonewere just like problematic for me on so
many levels, and that's why Ireally engaged with that. Do you remember
when Glenn went back to being afloor worker and was really excited about cleaning
up all the spills and stuff.Yeah, he was probably really good at

(09:18):
that and I'm like that was oneof the things that like Glenn does have
abilities to lead these people somehow, yes, and his own Glen ways,
and I like that they're bringing Glennback in that way. But she looked
I don't know. I didn't likeDina in the suit either. That suit
jacket was deserting. I hated that. So, yeah, it was a
good episode. I would have focusedmore on side characters. I didn't really

(09:41):
care for the Jonah show. Reallydon't What was Cheyenne doing besides chasing around
other people's things too. I wouldhave liked to see Cheyenne one seen by
herself delegating tasks. This is herfirst time being seen as the floor supervisor
and she's basically getting pushed around byJonah. That wasn't fun. I wanted
to see her step into the rolea little more. And yeah, at

(10:03):
the beginning, I don't know, she was like following Dina around to kind
of shadow her a bit. Shedidn't seem to be like assigning task or
anything. Yeah, she was justkind of sidebarring like nothing that like it
drove the plot some, but itwas never about Cheyenne. She talked about
her needing a new roof and usinga mattress and that was depressing. We'll
try to cut out our own skylightand it is a mess girl. What

(10:26):
you would ask? I think lastepisode like if we think Jonah is going
to go back to school, andit kind of came up in this episode
that like that was the big obstacleof him not being able to move on
as he didn't have a degree.Yeah, so that might be happening.
You spent the last five years workingin retail. You don't have any corporate
experience, and it's higher and markgoing to be tough to justify bringing you

(10:46):
on, right, Well, butI did I did go to a business
school. Oh really, I didn'tsee that on here. When did you
graduate? I didn't. So wecan part time him and not see him
as much, or are we goingto follow him to school because that's a
mistake. He's probably just gonna talkabout school a lot and be a student,
probably try to talk about all theseconcepts that he learns, and everyone's

(11:07):
like, I don't care, dude, shut up. Yeah, I'm just
wondering how they're gonna deal with holidaysand stuff if they're picking up, Like,
what's the timeline here? Because I'mwondering if this is spring or fall,
what part in the COVID does itlay in, because it could be
early COVID or it could be likecurrent COVID. I believe we're current.

(11:28):
Yeah, that's what it feels liketo me. But I wonder how if
they're going to do like a holidayepisode or any I want to know what
the store workers are definitely going throughand through this medium, which is weird.
I know some people don't like theircomedy or their television or whatever to
be realistic. They want to escape. Yeah, and I'm like, why

(11:48):
escape? It's so interesting to seesomebody else's reality. Sometimes I don't know.
Yeah, I believe the first episodeof this season caught us up to
the current times. I don't rememberthat time stamps that they gave, but
I think it caught us up tothe fall. But that's a good time
to mention that we're not getting anotherepisode until January, so we might be

(12:09):
kind of jumping over the holidays, maybe doing a retrospective of the winter.
Do you think we'll survive Winter omgwithout Superstore. I mean it's gonna cut
to like a post apocalyptic thing, and the employees are all living in the
store. Are you fucking kidding me? Like, we went to a fucking

(12:31):
super Target yesterday and it felt alittle post apocalyptic when I saw empty shelves.
Yeah, we're back to this notoilet paper thing. I guess.
Oh god, girl, Yeah,it's gonna be a thing I'm not excited
about, like the pressure that we'reabout to put on like frontline workers.
Yeah, And I was when theywere saying in the beginning, like the
surprise wheel is to bring more peopleinto the store because people aren't shopping as

(12:54):
much in person. I'm like,I was just at Target yesterday and it
was way too crowded to be comfortable. Like yeah, and it would be
really good to show like the butit's it's dangerous to show it even right
to make I mean, you couldput cameras in like your fake set or
whatever and make sure everyone's safe, but I still wouldn't trust it. But

(13:16):
there are so many people, Andlike when we went, there was a
people with the shopping carts that areshopping for you, So it like just
made the aisles more cramped for theemployees to do their shopping. So it
was just like, ooh, Idon't know how y'all are doing it.
Y'all are doing it though, showingup to work dealing with these customers.
Oh, I don't know. I'mhopeful that they can get like real accounts

(13:41):
and give to that like community, because I feel like frontline workers and those
menial jobs don't They're not even gettingpaid, right they should be. There's
like a whole thing about fight forfifteen and that's like a big deal for
these corporations to give these people fifteendollars an hour. Yeah, when they're
literally putting their lives on the line. But yeah, the holidays, I'm

(14:03):
glad they get the break. Iwas kind of surprised to see that.
I was just looking up, likewhat the next episode is, and it's
not until January. I thought Iwas going to get more than four episodes.
Hey, it's a hard time.I mean, we didn't see bretton
this, right, we didn't seea lot of like our I mean,
the character cast is still pretty strong, but you notice some things. Yeah,

(14:24):
I mean that's pretty normal, likesome of the Yeah, yeah,
but that's the current characters rotate throughepisodes. Yeah, you're right, right,
I just felt like we the firstcouple episodes had like a lot of
things to cover with the catching usup on COVID and Amy leaving and stuff.
There was like there's a lot ofbusiness to take care of, and
now it's like we're just getting ourfeet under its to be like, what

(14:45):
are we going to be looking atthis season? Well to see, I
mean twenty twenty has been a yearwhere seasons are weird. Yeah, so
I think it's fair to give themspace and time to really take the show
and maybe like given new life eventwenty twenty one. Yeah, let's resurrect
it. I'm not complaining, likeI'm open to whatever needs to happen.

(15:07):
Nobody owes me episodes or anything.Garry don't give him his episodes. He
needs them. I liked the episode. It was funny, It made me
giggle, it made me think, and I want to see more Cheyenne.
So I hope twenty twenty one bringslike more more of that, but we'll
see. Yeah, And I likethe direction they're going with Garrett that he's

(15:28):
being open about what he feels moreon accident even Yeah, that was a
good one. He's like that soundedsincere. Well, good luck with your
interview, buddy, Thank you Iwas being sarcastic and it came off supportive
because it was Garrett, It's okayfeel your feelings. And see that's why
I did like this episode, becauseit was about feeling your feelings. That

(15:50):
was a good message. I'm like, she she's going to stand the you
know, the effects of time, well, like feeling your feelings and not
everyone processes the same. Yeah, and this episode could have happened earlier,
like maybe this was but you know, Amy just made it impossible for them
to focus on somebody else taking alead because she went to conferences and shit,

(16:11):
Dina could have had an opportunity thenwell, Dina stated that she's not
interested in being the manager. Nooverall, Yeah, she was just like
given anxiety by thinking of how she'sgiven Glenn so much shit that she there's
a false expectation. Although I meanthat could change. I feel like they
wanted Dina to not want to bethe manager so that they could move Amy

(16:34):
into that position. Yeah, sowho knows, Yeah, I don't know.
Glenn might be gone for two weeksand maybe we'll have like a couple
of managers. Do you want somenews or do you want listener interactions?
Ah give me the interactions. Allright. Well, if you want to
get in touch with us and letus know what you thought about the episode
or just your thoughts on the showoverall, you can reach us by email

(16:56):
at Superstore Podcast at gmail dot com. You can find us on Facebook or
Twitter at superstore Pod. And bythe way, if we don't get back
to you right away, sometimes that'sjust because sometimes it takes us a few
days to actually watch it. Youknow, it comes out on Thursday,
but we can't watch it till Fridayon Hulu, and then we got to
figure out a time over the weekendto watch and record. So yeah,

(17:17):
sometimes it takes us a few days, So just be aware, all right.
Andrew on Facebook, he wrote tous after we had recorded the last
episode, but before it had beenreleased. So's he's talking about other shows
that the main character has left andsays, I'd say that the one most
similar to this is The Office whenMichael left. They're both workplace shows,

(17:38):
and the boss leaves. I'd sayThe Office was not as funny after Steve
Carell left, but it did carryon, probably because they did such a
good job developing the other characters, like Jim Pam Dwight, et cetera.
That's what Cloud nine will need todo and looking forward to the next episode
in your podcast. Yeah, yeah, Andrew, thanks and you're right.
They I don't know. I don'tlike to say Steve Carell carried the show,

(18:00):
but he definitely was like a Manni'syou know what I mean. Yeah,
in the very white sandwich of theOffice. But it was a good
one and he was very well, like integrated into all the all the show,
all the stories, like he wasin there. Yeah, so it
definitely felt different after he left. But I gave my response to this on

(18:22):
Facebook saying, like, I thinkthe show was kind of losing quality for
you know, a few seasons, and when Steve Carell left, it didn't.
It wasn't like a huge drop off. No, it was like a
plateau that they were hitty. Yeah, and the later seasons are still good.
It's just they're fun. They're justlike, you know, if you
have a deep connection with the verybeginning of the Office and the whole Jim

(18:44):
and Pam thing too kind of fizzlesout. It's a whole thing. Yeah,
So I don't know. I didlike that they gave you more characters
to invest it. Yeah, andI think we're set up well with a
superstore with other characters. Oh yeah, I'm so excited about Said and Justine.
Like just that like when Garrett Idon't know, but I love that

(19:07):
say it is not afraid to likeexpress his dislike for working with this person,
because sometimes you just can't work withsomebody. And I did like how
Garrett kind of side eyed her useof like bees notch or bitch or whatever,
like I should be able to callpeople mama or girlfriend or my bad

(19:30):
beat? Should you? You shouldn'tcall customers? Probably just a briat like
but that was good. So yeah, like these characters are very good at
being independent and I hope they getmore development. Oh my god. Yes.
And okay, so when they weredoing their like emotional explosions, somebody

(19:52):
told Sandra, I think Cherry shouldhave ended up with Carol. Okay,
at that time, this was good? Is everybody good? And that like
just flew her up, Sandra, honey, why aren't you not in the
very mate? Like you fucking talkingto Glenn was bullshit? Okay, you

(20:14):
could have had somebody else on thatphone. It could have been fucking Shyenne,
because I would have loved it ifSandra was doing her own thing too.
Yeah, maybe not the best useof Sandra in this episode. She
like launched that guy. Oh andhis haircut was bad. It was good.
It was a good session. Iliked that well. And also what

(20:37):
other engagements do We got mos andus some messages and great episode, loving
all the new people, especially Garrettgetting some growth. I agree already mentioned
that, And I do like therewas a lot of people in that big
warehouse scene that got lines that weusually get maybe like one or two of
them, but there seemed to belike several of them. Yeah. I
like the back and forth and thedifferent storylines that are developing, and I

(21:00):
hope they don't get like too jumbled, but so far, I like it
a lot. And I'm just bringingthe bucket hat back. They're doing a
lot, and then going on tosay, what do you and BB think
is the under over on Garrett havinga kid he doesn't know about. I'm
thinking Tony is his biological kid.Oh drama. I don't even think about

(21:21):
stuff like that, but I guess, yeah, I don't know. I
would just imagine Garrett's like wraps itup. Yeah, I don't know,
I guess he is impulsive, buthe seems like it's more careful than that.
He keeps his sneakers clean, youknow what I mean. I don't
know, that's a good like Idon't know, more soul to think on.

(21:45):
And that'd be like a good longhaul kind of like plot device too,
because then he'd be in a relationshipwith Sandra and Garrett and Jerry.
What a trumpet? Yeah, thatwould be a weird family. Just imagine
looking down like a street getting intheir van or something, because that kid

(22:06):
is huge, right. I don'tknow, Like if this was set in
like a small town, I'd bemore inclined to feel like, oh,
that's very possible, but it justseems nos Yeah, I like, I
like where your mind's at. Garretthaving a baby running out there. That
means Marcus could also have a child, and that's that's a little more likely
in my opinion. But I guesshe doesn't get laid a lot. I

(22:29):
don't know what about Elias. Eliasis Glenn's brother in law. You remember
that what talk about that Glenn's wifeJerusha in there being all brother and sister,
Like, oh, I love thatlady. They just like randomly said
one time that Elias is Glenn's brotherin law and they've never like done anything

(22:53):
with it. I see. Thisis what happens when you write like some
when you don't keep hack of yourfamily trees and things of that nature,
when you're thinking about writing for characters. That's too much. I can't handle
that anything. What else what yougot for news? Or is that for
news? What character do you thinkis making a return to the show.

(23:17):
Can I get a clue? It'ssomeone that was a big part of the
show for about a year. Youmentioned it, I think last time.
Oh god, I can't remember whatI said this morning or like twenty minutes
ago. It's Kelly. Oh mygod, it's Kelly. Yes, Okay,
it's confirmed that she's returning, andwe don't know like the details around

(23:41):
it, but it'll be an episodeseven. It's called the Trough Trough,
Yeah, like a pig trough,I think, so. I guess it
is set in Missouri, so that'llbe a few episodes away, and I
don't know if she's coming for oneepisode or if she's rejoining the cast.
Well, honestly, like if sherejoins the cast, I hope she comes
out as like a gay woman orsomething. Give her a little more crunch

(24:03):
because she's so vandilla. Like,if it's just her and Jonah interacting again
and making it awkward for the wholeshow, I'm going to pass. I'm
just saying, make her interesting, give her something other than a fucking Jonah.
I'm sorry, Like he was sucha douche in this episode. I
feel like they're going to be revisitingtheir relationship now that he's broken up with

(24:27):
Amy, and like, how brokenup are they? And yeah, I
hate that. I hate that.I'm sorry. I would rather explore the
baby daddy thing with Garrett and Sandra. Okay, give that kid a backseat.
Cool, Well that's all I got. That's all you got. Was
a good episode, Glenn, watchingthem destroy the thing that he never even

(24:48):
got to experience. He was sobroken. It was great. I loved
it. That was really good. But yeah, it was a good one.
Yeah, so we'll see you.The next episode is January fourteenth,
twenty twenty one. What's the nameof the episode? Do you know?
Don't even know yet? An?Oh my god, but Trough is already
on the books. Yeah, ewit's gross. Okay, Well, so

(25:15):
I guess it's a good time tomention that we have another podcast we've been
putting out episodes on. Yeah,if you want to cozy up on some
other television shows with us, it'sso cute where you could really feel the
warmbth over here. The show's calledSpacing Out with BB and Jason. Yeah,

(25:36):
we're watching Battlestar Galactica right now,but we're open to suggestion science fiction,
genre television. Yeah, so we'vebeen working on those episodes. That's
been a lot of fun. Yeah, it's been good times. Have you
seen this show? It's the twothousand and three version, so it's the
good one. There's a reboot, but we don't know her yet, right,

(25:56):
but it's follow that if you reallywant to watch more TV and have
access to this kind of entertainment.Yeah, So I guess if we'd think
of anything else to put out onthis channel, we will, But otherwise
it'll be January and send us memes. Is there Mateo memes, because I'm

(26:17):
sure there are. We did.Moe also send us this video that NBC
put together as a like a supercut of Dina and Dwight. Oh really,
yeah they are. Yeah, Icould see them being like related.
Yeah, she's definitely a shrew.I think a little bit of a Ron
Swanson as well. Yeah, she'sdefinitely an amalgamation of these, like traditionally

(26:40):
masculine characters. That's why I likeDina, because she's like overtly masculine femme.
Yeah, because she's also like animallover and vegan and these other aspects
that are unique to her. Shehas a truck with how to speak with
how the stereo extra? That's Dina, And she's also in a relationship with

(27:07):
a fucking veterinarian. Yes, andwhat is going on in there? I
hear screaming Hill, so I don'tbe careful that lady sounds like bad news.
That would be fun if they did, like an episode like that,
like you would see a community. They would do that a lot, where
there's like a theme to an episode. It'd be cool if the theme was

(27:29):
whatever the fuck was in the electronicscenter. Well, Glenn was on the
phone. What was going on?It was like a tunnel and some lights.
It was creepy. It was likedungeon porn, but at the superstore.
And he was really concerned, buthe kept his distance, and I
was proud of Gleunn. Anyway,I like the show without Amy, and

(27:49):
they need to cut Jonah out.Just cut it out, whatever he's got,
cut his lines in half and givehim, like, divide him equally
between everyone else, give him tosay and and you know the other Amy,
Cheyenne new Amy. Yeah and thenjust yeah, the show will be
