A HUGE welcome back to my very first guest ever on Spirit-Centered Business! After over 4-½ years I am so honored and blessed to have Jerry share his brilliance and Jesus-filled heart with us again! You can catch that very first show here: https://spiritcenteredbusiness.com/02-the-business-of-ministry-jerry-bryant/

BIO:
Jerry Bryant pioneered one of the earliest and longest-running Jesus Music syndications. Jerry was part of the early Jesus Movement of the 70s! His JESUS SOLID ROCK concerts in Carbondale, Illinois helped usher in early CCM to the Midwest. In 1978, Jerry became pastor of the Last Days Community in Woodland Hills, California with Keith and Melody Green, then moved to Lindale, Texas and worked with the AGAPE FORCE. Jerry ended up back in Carbondale, Illinois and continued with his radio show and concerts before moving to Nashville in 1993. After an extended absence from radio, he’s back doing what he loves to do: radio!

But wait - there’s more! This is direct from Jerry on his UNDERGROUND SHEPHERD Website.
“OK….Is there life for a pastor of 40 years after he leaves the stage? Yes, there is!! The opportunity for ministry in the Kingdom has limitless opportunities that never end. There are so many ways to advance His Kingdom and I can’t stop!!
It’s a new season for me since I pastored the Vineyard Nashville but I am still shepherding. Actually, I originally chose the name UNDERGROUND SHEPHERD for a blog or podcast because I think it describes what I do “off the stage”. I still care about the flock but I’m taking time “for the little one under his arm”, like the shepherd in the picture. A lot of my time is spent in encouraging and mentoring.
I have transitioned into a role as city missionary/ambassador, itinerant speaker, networker, ACT Nashville Pastoral Care Coordinator, media producer and I am re-engaging with national and international ministry, as I am invited. No time for a rocking chair for me! I also plan to try my hand at writing. God has been supplying through partnership with people who trust and believe in who I am and what I am called to do.”

(00:53):
Well, hello, they're welcome toSpirit Centered Business. Look who I
have in the house. It's JerryBryan. I can finally have it back
four and a half years plus afterhe was my very first guest. First
guest, Oh my goodness, youwere absolutely yep. I did show number
one myself just to say, hey, guys, I think I'm launching your

(01:14):
show and the show number two wasyou so so welcome back. Yeah,
and just I just have one littlebit of housekeeping before we get into a
conversation is over on Spirit Centered Businessdot com. If you have not taken
that Spirit Centered Business Business Assessment, you can go ahead and take that.
It's free, and you can justsee where you are in the trajectory of

(01:38):
how your business is established in heaven, how you're operating from the heavenly realms
with father as your CEO. Allright, that's over on Spirit Center Business
dot Com. All right, Jerry, I missed you. Tell You've reached
out to me more than once, and I've just kind of been busy,

(01:59):
and I do love you and Iwant to see this out front too.
I'm going to do my best toget behind this program and promote it.
Some people may not know, butI've been a part of Sounds of Glory
Nashville dot com Sounds of Glory Nashville, and over the years I brought in

(02:19):
a lot of conferences helping be apart of bringing in the late Christopher Carter
on occasion. I've had, ofcourse conferences in Nashville with just quite a
few of the folks that you andI both know, and probably will do
another one or two. We needto promote this particular program on Sounds of

(02:45):
Glory Nashville's newsletter, and yes,we're going to do that because this is
an awesome program and I think everyonelistening right now please take my encouragement tell
your friends how to tune in andlisten to some of these very very important
programs. Some of the guests you'vehad have been just really amazing. You're

(03:10):
doing a good thing. Thank youso much. And we have a mutual
friend, Timothy Bence, who Iwas just sharing with you. I hung
out with him all June because wewere doing conferences and retreats together and and
speaking in various places around the countryand traveling and that was a lot of
fun. And I really respect andadmire him and I learned a lot too,

(03:32):
well you will, because Timothy isa very incredibly deep individual. He's
got so many stories. He's veryinvolved in what's going on right now around
the world. GG you're connected.Yeah, And we played off of each
other really really well, and itjust felt like God was doing this snowball.

(03:53):
We started in a retreat in Orlando, and the was showing us it
was the face to face retreat, how to come face to face with the
Lord. And so Timothy would speakon a subject and then I would do
an activation so that people could actuallyimplement what he talked about, and then

(04:14):
I would bring something and then hewould tell stories about that, and it
was just really good. And wemoved to Jacksonville, and then we did
we met in Oklahoma City and meta dear friend over there, and then
Colorado. So I think the Lordwas really doing something. But it's not
about him. It's not about me, it's about you, Jerry Oh.
Yes. Of course. Like Itold you before we started, I think

(04:39):
I'm a legend in my own mind. Now I hear a legend in a
lot of our minds. I canbless that so many people have given me
favor and invited me on their programs, and I've been able to produce some
programs for people when they were outof sink and they just needed someone to
fill in. I've done that andI really have enjoyed this. I never

(05:03):
knew Braylan I would ever get thisdeeply involved. For those who have never
met me, I'm the pastoral directoror coordinator for our cities Ministerial Alliance.
I'm talking about the Nashville Ministerial Alliance. We call it the Worship City Alliance.

(05:25):
I don't know if any of themknow what I do on the side.
This is my this is the hiddenthis part. I don't find a
lot of people in ministry in Nashvillethat are fully engaging and some of the
things we'll be talking about. Andit's fine. I'm serving this city.
I'm serving alongside them, but Idon't know that they would understand some of

(05:49):
the things or feel like they wantto be a part of some of the
things that we've embraced in these lastfour years. But here I am trying
to, you know, making influencein the prayer movement in the city.
And I'm available to do weddings.I do. There was some time to
time, and I teach and shareand then I travel in missionary work.

(06:12):
I stayed very busy. I mean, I'm not worried about something to do.
Yeah. In fact, you justgot back from Wales, right.
I was in Wales. I gotto climb a castle, carrie Filly Castle,
Philly Castle, the largest castle Ithink in your actually, and it's

(06:33):
well preserved from twelve hundred sixty three. What a day we just it was
a beautiful day. We went upand down all of the castle and took
pictures and and then I wasn't expectingthis. I went back to where the
Welsh Revival began in nineteen oh fourand went to the original chapel that not

(06:57):
Reese House but Evan Roberts preached in. It was a great revival all through
Wales. Out of that became aprayer movement. Reese House actually had a
place Swansea, or they call itthe Bible College of Wales now, where
they had intercession going on continually. And I'll just end to this to say

(07:19):
that the World War Two that wasgoing on during that time, that it
they believe, and they have adocumentation that the prayers turned the course of
that war from the prayer room.So I went to visit that. Oh
my goodness. I mean, Iwas awakened at what people have done to

(07:43):
entertain the fullness of his presence andhow it's shaped history. And we're shaping
history today. Oh my gosh.I love that, shaping history with the
fullness of His presence. Yes,isn't that where we're all here to do?
Amen, That's what I was bornfor exactly exactly. Oh my gosh.

(08:07):
So I know that you're working withthose pastors and those worship leaders.
So is that difficult to not beable to speak the language of stepping into
the heavenly realms or turning our focusin or whatever language you use. Is
that hard to just not say, come on, guys, let's do it
from heaven. Well, that's areally good question. I think that the

(08:30):
answer has to be that if youdo everything and love, you just take
people where they are. I don'tfeel judgment toward them. I don't feel
resistance. I just love them.I'm available. They know that, they
know that I have a shepherd's heart. The fact one of my ministries I
have so many hats. One ofthe ministries that really supports just paying the

(08:56):
bills is the ministry called Underground Shepherd, and I have an inactive website with
that, but I do have aFacebook page Underground Shepherd. I post a
lot of things about things I'm personallydoing with my life. And I want
to be off the radar, underground, so to speak, and I don't
need to go back on the stageagain after fifty years of ministry and pastoring

(09:22):
back to your question, I tryto work in some of my stories.
I'm not afraid to say I hada heavily encounter I'm not afraid to know.
And and quite a few of theintercessors and prophetic people that come,
like doctor James Gall. He's hada lot of encounters. I work with

(09:43):
him, and he's he is abusinessman extraordinary. I have never seen a
man with more business things happening withhis video and audio cast and his books
and his conferences and his mentoring. This man. If you want to watch
an example of somebody very very successfulin Christian business and ministry, it's doctor

(10:07):
James Gall, one of my closestfriends. Oh my gosh, you need
to get him on my show. You know, if you can find time
to get him on, he willbe enough. You'll need him on for
two or three shows. We cando that. It's gonna be like Magra
Falls the Red Carpet. His ministry. You could look at him on Google.

(10:30):
It's encounters and honestly, the Lordhas so gifted him in these areas
to juggle all of this. He'sgot his own studio at his house.
When he came and we first met, I invited him to speak at the
Vineyard Christian Fellowship that I was pastoringin Nashville, Tennessee. First one that

(10:52):
I had brought in from Kansas City. He had never written a book.
I think he has fifty now.Oh my gosh. Wow. You can
hardly look around and not see hisinfluence and the influence of Dot Derek Prince
that influenced him and Bob Jones wasin his life a lot, and he
moved in Kansas City here after beingwith Mike Bickle. He's just an extraordinary

(11:16):
individual that you could learn a lotif you want to see some of his
you know, business principles and howhe advertises and so he's very successful in
that and generous. I don't knowanybody's given away more books and it writes
my ministry. He's just so generous. I think that is a key,

(11:37):
my friends that are listening. Ibelieve that the more we can choose generosity,
believing that God has given us thesegifts and these finances to bless others,
help others get started, like doctorGaul does. This is a key
to success, you know, justdon't be self focused and thinking, well,

(12:00):
I got to make things. Youknow, sure you have to pay
the bills, but go slow andstay low. Yeah, you've got to
You've got to go slow. Andsome things where we get anxious. I
want to I want to do this. I want to do that. He's
showed me to do this. He'sshowed me to do that. Yes he
has, but in his timing, and he's working on your heart always and

(12:24):
on your And I've got to sayto you right now that one of the
things that has been such a blessingin my life is learning how to cleanse
my soul gates of all negativity andjudgment and criticism and opinions and all of
those things against others. It saysin the word cast down all imaginations.

(12:46):
And most of this is imagination unlessyou've heard from the horse's mouth. Cast
down all imaginations, reasonings, speculations, opinions, all of these things that
lead to gossip and atitudes. Itry every morning to get up and say,
I'm going to cleanse my soul.Great right now, is there anybody

(13:07):
I have an opinion toward because theydidn't answer my phone call, they didn't
call me back, they didn't inviteme to do this or that. Is
there anyone that I could possibly haveany offense. I'm cleansing that right now.
I want to stay clean. I'mgoing to stay pure now, folks,
that is a key to business inany dimension. And this is hard

(13:30):
because it's so competitive, and weget put down and get a lot of
rejection, a lot of no andit's hard to say, wait a minute,
I'm trusting Jesus in this. Fully, He's the one that's going to
show me how to navigate through thislittle tough place or thin place, as
they used to say. You know, in the Celtic history, we can

(13:54):
say they talked about it as athin place. The thin place is a
good place. It's a happy placewhen you know God's in charge. I
am so sweetly surrendered right now tohis plan for my life. I don't
entertain. I can't think of thelast time I had an anxious thought I
just won't do it. I justwon't do it. And when I came

(14:16):
back from Wales, I said,I'm not going to do jet lag either,
and I didn't really really good getme started here, But go ahead
and keep going, Jerry, youcan do it well. You know,
when he come right down to itis a lot of our business efforts do

(14:39):
revolve around how we think right inbetween these two years, our heart attitudes.
God is not worried about you becomingsuccessful in what you're putting your hand
to. But he is concerned thatyou do it for his glory. He
is concerned that your heart's clean. And this is our hardest. We get

(15:00):
so frustrated in waiting, and weget so put out if somebody, you
know doesn't like what we're doing. We'll do it for an audience of one
and see what happens. Be generous, go low and slow, and when
his timing comes like it did fordoctor Gaul, oh my gosh, the

(15:22):
books just came out like Niagara Fallsand all these opportunities, you know,
to be on this TV show andthat, and people asking him, Hey,
I'm really needing to be mentored ortaught. He just doesn't have enough
time to do it. It's justso big right now, and he's very
small Ministry and Nashville, Tennessee. But he's visible, and you know,

(15:48):
isn't that what we want. Idon't care if I make a couple of
million dollars today, but I'd liketo be visible because that means that I'm
going to influence someone for the good. I know my life is to influence
someone for the good. Now,the couple of million dollars I wouldn't know
what really to do that except I'dprobably travel and go influence people elsewhere or
help other people get started something theyhave a love for. Follow your passion

(16:15):
after right. So I'm grateful forthis show because it gives me a platform
to say these things that people thatneed encouragement today. Oh yes, yeah,
you know that. And the influenceis actually part of my mandate,
Jerry, I saw when I wasreading I think it's somewhere in Luke and

(16:37):
you probably know this better than me, but where the Lord says, if
you're not if you're not gathering thespoils, you're against me. And I
saw my hand going and gathering influencethat the enemy had stolen and lost or
that got abandoned on the people lives. And I am a restorer of influence.

(17:04):
So like wow, and not onlydo I release voices that have been
held captive by fear and doubt, but I also restore lost, abandoned,
traded away, or deteriorated influence. And so that is why I love to
have people on the show like youwho can speak to people about that influence

(17:25):
and about how important it is toget our message out to the world and
how important it is to live byour passion because He designed us for that
purpose. Right, we are afacet of the Lord, and we're each
individually unique to what he is callingus to do. And so I love
that you said that because it isso important who, yeah, who,

(17:48):
you know the money is the moneyis more like just a measuring stick,
like it's it's the evidence of howmuch good you're doing in the world,
how much influence you have as faras leading people, awakening people, telling
people who they are, and theLord's showing them who the Lord is.
Whatever you're called to do. Ilove that you said that well. And

(18:10):
you know, sometimes we're embarrassed bypeople who are not believers and they're not
obviously working in Christian ministries. Butsome of these very well known inventors and
people like Bill Gates type giving awayso much money. You know, a
lot of these groups are giving awaya lot of money to social causes,
things that maybe I even wouldn't support, but they realize you can only I

(18:37):
had a millionaire friend one time. They says, you can only drive one
Cadillac at a time. All right, he said, you can only eat
one steak at a time. Idon't think the folks are listening to your
show or out there being you know, out of balance. But I just
want to say to you, begenerous, beyond expectations and see if you

(19:00):
can outgive God. Yeah, seeif opportunities. I've got a quick story.
I've got to tell you how whenyou have the right heart attitude,
God works things out. Now,I live by faith. I don't solicit
money, but I have underwriters ofthe Underground Shepherd. And many years ago
in my hometown, my neighbor andI had a good relationship, but I'd

(19:27):
never been asked for anything by himuntil one day and knocked on the door
and he said, I can't paythe mortgage this month. And he's crying.
He's upset a fear that he mightlose his house. And I said,
well, I can give you nowthe word gives important. I can
give you your mortgage payment. Hesaid, oh no, no, no,

(19:49):
I'll pay it back within a week. I've got money coming in.
I said, well, I'm goingto give it to you, and it's
not going to be looked at itas a loan, but yes, i'd
love to have you give it back, but it's up to you and God.
Because I really think that burdens myheart. If I've given it away,

(20:11):
and if he gives it back, which he wanted to and said he
would, I have it for someoneelse got it back. A couple of
three years went by, he passedon, well, I said, well,
it wasn't mine anyway, but itwas a chunk of money. One
day I get a call. Thisis like maybe five years ago. This

(20:33):
has been a long time. Hisson calls me. His son's will do
well to do lawyer, and hesaid, by the way, did my
father ever borrow anything from you?Hm? I said, well, yeah,
I guess he did, but Imean it was really not alone.

(20:59):
He said, well, I've foundout that some of his other friends felt
like he took advantage of them. And I said, it's nothing. But
when I hung up at the endof that call, you know what I
expected, He's going to pay hisfather's debt. After all these years,
He's going to take his father's debton as an honor and pay me back.

(21:22):
It never happened. Hu. Ayear went by, and I thought,
let's see how my carnal mind workshere. I am thinking that I'm
going to get that money back. But one day all of a sudden,
I noticed that there was a sizeablegift that came in for the ministry.

(21:42):
It is because ours is tax exemptfrom this son. And now three years
later, it's not stopped. Monthafter month. Have I been paid back
many times over, many times over. But you see, here's the key.
You let go because it doesn't belongto you. If you say with

(22:06):
your lips, I forgive this debt, it's not a debt because you gave
it away. And look what Godhas done. I have been so blessed
and underwritten by his gift. Andhe never said what it was about.
But it wasn't a repayment because Iwouldn't let him do that. This is
just a testimony of how we really, really really can't trust the Father to

(22:27):
take care of us. Oh that'sbeautiful. Wow. Yeah, And I
think that's that's a big thing,is just being able to trust because I
have struggle just because I'm a smartcookie. I just want to go run
and doing something for my Well,I can figure this out. I got
I got this God, I gotthis right. No, we have to

(22:52):
trust, don't we. We alwayshave to trust, and we do yeah,
and not just do things for Godbut do it the way that he
wants us to do it, becausesometimes it's in the way that he wants
us to do it that we getthe learning, or we get the lesson,
or we get the added favor orwhatever. The added benefit is that

(23:14):
the Lord is trying to get tous is in following how he wants to
do something, not just what hewants to do. I know, I'm
just saying that these should be honestlyChristianity one on one lessons, but it
takes the rest of our lives toactually remember, Oh, that's what he
meant. You know, he hadsome hard sayings and he lost a few

(23:37):
followers over them. You remember,Yeah, but those hard sailings, those
hard sayings were key elements to livingthe abundant life. And I never knew
what the abundant life was, evenafter all these years of pastoring, ministrying

(23:59):
and doing things. I've had aradio program for fifty years, which we'll
talk about sometime. But I neverfelt like I had abundant life until I
understood what God was all about becauseI had some encounters with Him in a
heavenly place like I had never experiencedthis joy of this freedom until my first

(24:22):
time of being with him right thereat the throne room, and it's never
stopped. And it's wonderful because youdon't have to die to go there,
you know, and he's got somuch wisdom to impart and peace and rest.
It's real. If you haven't triedit, if our listeners, if
you're listening and you haven't tried it, oh my, you need to be

(24:45):
open because he says, come uphigher and I'll show you things you don't
yet know. Right, and weare seated in heavenly places and you are
a citizen of heaven. So rightnow, yep, right now, it's
not you will be and yeah, exactly. But I want to come back
to fifty years having a radio show. Oh my gosh, Jerry, tell

(25:07):
us about that. I mean, sure you've surely you've had some lessons along
the way there. Yeah, Well, give me a high five because that
is really us. And yeah,I learned rejection at the beginning of the
radio show because first of all, back in fifty years ago, there was

(25:27):
any there was not any contemporary Christianmusic of my genre, you know,
with a guitar, set of drums. It was mostly choirs, quartets and
not that I didn't like that.I mean, I was raised in that
environment. But I went to alittle country rock station near my home and

(25:51):
got them to let the Jesus Freakin town do a little radio show on
their station. And it wasn't long, mind you, until I got pushback.
The owners came to me and said, well, you know, we
like your show and what you're tryingto do and help people, and but
you've got a problem that we've gotto address. I said, oh,

(26:12):
what did I do? Well, you keep saying that Jesus is the only
way, and as you know,we run Timothy Leary and Boba, run
Dush and all these other gurus andteachers. And you can't say that Jesus
is the only way. I said, I didn't say it. I said,

(26:32):
he said He's the only way.Well, it wasn't long before my
first rejection. They kicked me offthe station because they didn't want to hear
a message that Jesus preached that hewas the only way to the Father.
Well, you know, when youhave the right attitude, and I had
to learn that really early. Igo to a local rock station that's about

(26:55):
one hundred thousand watch one of thebiggest one in the area. They said,
yeah, we'll let you have Somedaynights. We don't have nothing on
Sunday night. So I started outand they gave me from nine o'clock at
night till two in the morning.Oh wow, and paid me. Because
I was running the transmitter and outof that show every night, so many

(27:18):
people found Jesus. I baptized them. I got to know him. We
started a little Christine coffee house andall of that. I had a little
Jesus Commune with guys living in thishouse and girls over here at another house.
And I mean, we're part ofthe Jesus Revolution that you see in
that movie called Jesus Revolution. Itwas in nineteen seventy two, fifty years

(27:41):
ago. And so anyway, thatprogram, I didn't think of it at
the time is being something that wouldbe commercial or viable. But people wanted
to buy time on this show. They wanted to put it on stations,
you know. So all of asudden get involved in business that way,
and I ended up with that onelittle program being on a hundred radio stations

(28:06):
coast to coast. Oh my gosh. And it changed everything for me,
just because that first time, Ibelieve not taking it personal, but just
say, well, I'll just dowhat God said, but I'll go over
here and do it and get paidfor it and get paid for it and
Braylan, I'm still on the radio. I've changed the name of the show,

(28:29):
but now I'm on iHeart Radio.Quite a few radio stations but mostly
iHeart and iTunes podcasts and the samethat you have on the droid. I
don't know what they call it now, used to be the PlayStation but play
something. But anyway, that plusa lot of other other Internet groups take

(28:51):
my show. It's hurt internationally andthat show is called full Circle Jesus Music
for words. If about full Circle, I'm going way back to where it
all began. Full Circle. Allthe original songs of the seventies and eighties
when I worked with Keith Green andAndre Crouch and all the folks at Marinatha

(29:14):
and Calgary Chappell part of that JesusRevolution movie. Well, I play all
those songs every time I do ashow, and it's not dated. Now
you can actually go right now tofull Circle Jesus Music dot com and play
three hundred almost three hundred hours worthof music interviews. My recent interview was

(29:37):
with Russ Taff who used to bewith the Imperials. He told his story
of how through his own brokenness hegot delivered and set free. Oh you
can't listen to it not cry playedall of these early songs. So I've
done just a lot of interviews.I just love talking, but I have

(29:59):
to slow it down and play musictoo. So anybody that wants to check
it out, it's full circle Jesusmusic after fifty years. Yeah, we
all definitely have the link in theshow notes wherever you're watching or listening,
and we are syndicated across the FringeRadio network, so we're on spear Center
Businesses on all of those channels aswell. So we'll have a link directly

(30:25):
to Jerry's podcast or his radio showin the show notes. So I really
this has been really good, Jerry. I really want to come back to
the Jesus Revolution movement. But I'mgoing to leave a cliffhanger because I want

On Purpose with Jay Shetty

On Purpose with Jay Shetty

I’m Jay Shetty host of On Purpose the worlds #1 Mental Health podcast and I’m so grateful you found us. I started this podcast 5 years ago to invite you into conversations and workshops that are designed to help make you happier, healthier and more healed. I believe that when you (yes you) feel seen, heard and understood you’re able to deal with relationship struggles, work challenges and life’s ups and downs with more ease and grace. I interview experts, celebrities, thought leaders and athletes so that we can grow our mindset, build better habits and uncover a side of them we’ve never seen before. New episodes every Monday and Friday. Your support means the world to me and I don’t take it for granted — click the follow button and leave a review to help us spread the love with On Purpose. I can’t wait for you to listen to your first or 500th episode!
