Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is Sporting Life.
Speaker 2 (00:05):
Well welcome along to the Sporting Life Lating Podcast. David
L John By Van Bebby, Gwen Cunningham and chair. I'm
going to look back on Aintree and may Dan little
look ahead to the weekend as well ed we need
to start.
Speaker 3 (00:18):
With a Randos Grand National on Saturday.
Speaker 2 (00:20):
I was think a decent judge of these things is
how you feel when to get into the car and
home on the Saturday evening, when we're going through your mind,
Dad as your point to the car.
Speaker 4 (00:28):
South, gosh that I've got a long journey ahead and
GC or know what it's like post Grand National television show.
You're just completely frazzled, genuinely frazzled. It's hard to explain
and it's much harder than anything else I do, much
harder than any soccer Saturday I presented any football program
(00:49):
I've ever presented. Presenting the Grand National is a huge honor.
You know, only eight people have done it on Threshold TV.
But it's also really difficult, so your head is full
of scrambled egg to be honest when you come off
there and million things going through your mind. I was thinking,
what a great job they've done. An entry John Pullham
with that ground having had not a drop of rain
for whatever it was three weeks I thought was fairly remarkable.
(01:10):
Dick and White had done a great job in putting
on a fabulous show, which I'm sure we'll come to.
Cheltenham takes so much criticism, yet Antrige from Me doesn't
get enough praise for its crowds and the show it
puts on. I was hoping those two horses were okay, obviously,
and we'll talk about that, I'm sure, But obviously I'm
focused on the ITV show and how it's gone, and
you don't really know because your head is all over
(01:30):
the place. I aim with an ITV Grand National Show
to have plenty of nostalgia, to try and make people
feel young again. You know, the Champions music, the vts
we'd done. Daryl Jacob had done a lovely piece with
intense raffles. For us, I thought Alex with the horses
before the race was simply sensational. She was sensational on
Channel four. She's amazing for us and Matt's interviews will
(01:52):
live long in the memory. With Sir Alex Ferguson, I
thought it was brilliant and then his interview with Willi
Mullins when Willia Mullins cracked was great TV, really, and
I thought it was a really good Grand National. I
hadn't looked at social media or anything like that. I
thought it was a really good Grand National. I've enjoyed
it far more than I did a couple of years
ago when I sat in the car and felt horrendous.
(02:13):
If I'm honest, in twenty seventeen, I actually felt horrendous
having presented my first Grand National. I hadn't got anything
like the way I expected it to go, and then
we won an award for it.
Speaker 5 (02:21):
But on Saturday, I felt pretty good about the whole thing.
Speaker 2 (02:26):
Really, let's talk about viewing figures that they've come through.
What can we act in if the National indcline or
something for the TV audience.
Speaker 5 (02:38):
Yes and no, Yes and no.
Speaker 4 (02:39):
On the face of it, five point three, which isn't
a consolidated figure because these days you consolidate it eventually
with digital and all everything else that happens in a
modern day television audience. On the face of it, five
point three is really disappointing. Where you think of where
the Grand National was and you've got to take it
on the chin and you've got to accept it. It
is a problem for me, and I've said it for
(03:01):
a long time. You know, our success is in the
eight years we've done it and being the custodians of
the rights have been the Childham Festival have been Royal
Ascot have been York have been good with other big meetings.
The problems for me have been the Derby and the
Grand National. We've spoken about it often here. The days
of those big audiences, for one are gone, and secondly,
(03:21):
both races don't resonate like they used to.
Speaker 5 (03:24):
The Grand National. Let's face it isn't the race it was.
Speaker 4 (03:27):
To quote ruff Scott brilliant piece in the Times and
the piece he did to the opening show, the Grand
National is not the race it was, but it's what
it is now the matti and listen.
Speaker 6 (03:37):
I can.
Speaker 4 (03:37):
I can go on and on and explain in the audience.
It's very straightforward really, in the sense that our biggest
audience was nine point six million in twenty nineteen. I
think that was and the share of the audience is
bigger now than it was there, so the Grand National
is still hugely popular. The problem we have is that
not enough people are at home watching TV and why
(04:00):
they'd be the first Saturday of a school holidays and
it's blazing sunshine. We had forty percent viewer share for
the show, sixty percent for the Grand National. You take
that all day long. Back in the day, that would
have equated to an enormous audience auder but these are
very different times.
Speaker 6 (04:15):
Can I come in on that, Jose.
Speaker 3 (04:20):
I.
Speaker 6 (04:22):
I'm baffled by one element of this.
Speaker 7 (04:25):
The fact is the terrestrial audience for the National is
pretty much almost halved in less than a decade. Cheltenham
figures were so strong, really strong, and so we simply
have to conclude that the race is losing its appeal
with a huge section of the public. I don't need
to touch on certain aspects, but there's one point I
(04:47):
want to touch on again. I've touched on it before,
happy to do so again. A significant number of media
people you know who you are, lads, think it's absolutely
right to ignore a significant news story here, and I
think I know why they do it because they know
that ITV racing.
Speaker 6 (05:06):
Terrestrial Racing is.
Speaker 7 (05:07):
The last chopper out of Saigon for horse racing, and
if that shopper goes down, they go down. I firmly
believe that's the reason they ignore this. Lewis Portius in
the Racing posted a story. The number was in the
last paragraph of a story of about eighteen to twenty pars.
Very few people have touched on it. I wonder why
(05:30):
that is. I think I know for reasons just outlined.
Speaker 4 (05:34):
Yeah, I can see where you're coming from that. I
just think, then, what do you think about the FA
Cup Final? Because the FA Cup Final is probably the
one big national event you compare and.
Speaker 5 (05:45):
That viewing number of stuff is just like we did and.
Speaker 7 (05:51):
Six nations doesn't. That's held up extremely well. I don't
know why the national doesn't resonate like it used to.
I have tuned out to a certain extent, not because
of this, just because I cannot and this will lead
us into the next area. I can't abide the narrative
of fatality, free erase, triumph and one death disaster and
(06:18):
I just can't square that. And for that reason, I
stayed at home and watched it. And by the way,
I watched the race and I enjoyed it. I thought
it was dramatic, I thought it was incident packed. Thought
it felt more like an old national but bizarrely, and
you shouldn't make light of these things.
Speaker 6 (06:35):
It took a.
Speaker 7 (06:35):
While for all the pieces to fall into place, But
after a couple of days, every single clan involved in
the National pro and anti seem to get pretty much
what they were looking for. Great weather, buzzing atmosphere, pulsating race,
great storyline, Dad and lad, poignant angle with the winning
(06:56):
owner having lost his wife. And then a little more
than forty eight hours later, here comes the winning jockey
getting an eight day witban and a horse dies because
he's been driven to the point of exhaustion. That is
the modern day National in a nutshell. And there's one
more thing I want to mention. I came home on
Friday night and watched northwester tonight the BBC local news
(07:18):
short at six point thirty, and a lady called Judy
Hobson in a former trainee jockey apparently, introduces her report
with no fatalities today, thank goodness, and my heart sank.
You're a BBC correspondent who's not meant to editorialize. And
that's where we are with this race now. It's it's
(07:40):
a great occasion. It was a spectacular race in many respects.
But it's in strife that a BBC correspondent can begin
her report with no fatalities today.
Speaker 6 (07:50):
Thank goodness.
Speaker 2 (07:53):
That leads into some of the criticism that came IV's
way and paint his way for the lack of updates
on odd Way by a celeb Dulen immediately after the race.
Speaker 3 (08:04):
How do you respond to that?
Speaker 5 (08:06):
I hold my hands up to a certain extent, Audy.
Speaker 4 (08:08):
I wish in hindsight, and hindsight's a wonderful thing that
I'd just given an update sooner that will let you
know as soon as we know anything. I'm totally in
the hands of the Jockey club with that for updates.
I knew nothing. I wish when I watched it back.
I wish I'd just said something afterwards to say, we'll
let you know about jockeys and horses as soon as
we get that information.
Speaker 5 (08:28):
I probably got too wrapped up.
Speaker 4 (08:30):
The way it worked for me is I got very
wrapped up in the Mulleins story, the Nick Rocket's story,
the Stewart Andrew's story, the Sadie Andrews story, and then
getting to a break, and then I was in charge
of the presentation down the track. I wish i'd said
something just as a holding message. In hindsight, I normally would.
I'm not quite sure why I didn't, and.
Speaker 5 (08:48):
I should have done.
Speaker 4 (08:50):
I hold my hands up all he actually did doing
the replay, and then once I had the information from
the Jockey Club the update on the two horses, I
read it out immediately. I can't speculate, I can't do
anything like that. I've got to be sensible these days
and do it that way. In hindsight, I wish i'd
done just that holding message probably would have been better.
Speaker 5 (09:12):
But there's an awful lot.
Speaker 4 (09:13):
It's a very difficult explain everything that is going on
in my earps, the storylines, what's happening, getting to the break,
it's so on and so forth.
Speaker 5 (09:21):
It all happens very quickly. There's a lot going on.
Speaker 4 (09:23):
But in hindsight, yeah, I wish I'd just given a
holding message and then said I'll update people when I can.
I can't do any more than that, and you give
the information when it's really inaccurate.
Speaker 5 (09:36):
That's really really important these days.
Speaker 6 (09:38):
I think it's to me, it's very very clear the
death of Celebradalen and the way that came about is
far far more damaging for racing than any fall fatality.
I don't know what you lads think about that. Well,
one thing I was encouraged about.
Speaker 7 (09:53):
I was listening to LBC Nick Ferrari show this morning
and Culture Secretary and wig An MP Haydock is very
close to where she is. Lisa Andy was on two courts.
I dragged out horse racing brings joy to millions of people.
There has to be a good future for horse racing,
stressing the way that horses are cared for, that welfare
(10:15):
standards have improved. I was quite encouraged to buy that.
But this contest has become an annual football, political football,
just another little punchline in the culture war, and it
depresses me, to be honest.
Speaker 3 (10:29):
How much of that?
Speaker 4 (10:30):
How much of that you see? I think one of
my best moods. I'm not on Twitter formally x anymore.
It's not worth my while. And imagine I'd looked at
that after the race and seen what was going on there,
I probably would have speculated and done something I shouldn't
have done. Your stuff about Northwest BBC worries me. I
haven't been asked to do anything normally like alf the
(10:51):
protests and after certain things I'm asked to go and
all sorts of different shows and represent racing. I've had
nothing race. I thought it was a really good national
I know social media there's all sorts of wars been
going on and I'm sure there's still going on now.
How much do you think that is part of it?
How much do you think is big picture?
Speaker 7 (11:07):
I think the race has become a bit too hot
to handle with some influential bodies. I think that's why
ITV don't promote it in a very very strong way
across their various platforms. I think the race has just
become it's become too political for a lot of a
lot of people. I'm speculating there, but there's a reason
that number is coming down year on year, and that's
(11:28):
one of them.
Speaker 2 (11:31):
Ronan, it was the first time in ages you weren't
at you were watching some Fresh from dun dark on
the Friday night.
Speaker 3 (11:38):
What did you make of the twenty twenty five that's national?
Speaker 8 (11:41):
Yeah, Look, they've take all the political things out of
it as a spectacle. I was in Belliston Racecourse evening
meeting there. There was a good crowd. Today an east
wind and go through you despite the sun, but any
race corps. I was there was on the bank at
the back of prayer and looking at the race. I
looked at it on the big screen and for what
that nine minutes the race takes effectively nine minutes and
(12:04):
six seconds, nobody was speaking. You know, it's still got
that entrolment, you know. I know it's changed in every way,
shape or form from what we knew it used to be.
Speaker 9 (12:14):
But visually for the.
Speaker 8 (12:16):
Once, for the non hardened racecors, it's still is a
good spectacle. And obviously when you're an Irish racecourse and
you see Irish horse fight now to finish, there was
a good cheer for the eventual winner and more so
maybe the second I Maximus, who I think was very
popular in the market as well. And you know the
result the emotion from Willie Mullins that we see him
(12:36):
with Patrick, something that we don't see with Willie's a
little bit of an ice man, listen, He's.
Speaker 9 (12:41):
A cool customer.
Speaker 8 (12:42):
The whole occasion really got to him and I think
that lifted the result as much as anything else that
Wade Race developed.
Speaker 9 (12:48):
For the horse away he went in.
Speaker 8 (12:50):
He was a big drifter on the anti postmarket as
well interesting giving is Bobby Joe Win a tist his
win he did bomb out in Irish Grand National last year.
Maybe that was a factor, body, Yeah, it was had
a lot going on from afar from where we were
at least, and you're probably dealing with two different cultures
between the Irish culture and the English culture as a
(13:11):
guards and anaand welfare and the way that's taken into
account in Ireland. England not saying we don't take it
in less seriously, but it's dealt to it in a
different manner and it's not say as politically at this
stage of an Irish of the Irish psyche, if you like.
It's not as big big an issue thankfully at this stage.
But all that happens over over the other side are
(13:34):
can become an issue five and ten yuars down the line.
So something we all got a bear in mind as well,
and how you protect the sport.
Speaker 2 (13:42):
See that immediate after Matt, that instant Willie Mullen's reaction
on ITV or they couldn't speak. That for me was
the defining moment of God National. They just see when
never seen that before.
Speaker 6 (13:53):
I absolutely loved it, I really did.
Speaker 7 (13:55):
I'm all right, thinking Patrick is William Jackies only child. Yeah, yeah,
we've got one son, and you know, I've done watched
him play sport and there's absolutely nothing like him. I'm
sort of gagging a little as a speak. I cannot imagine,
cannot imagine watching you know, your your only son excel
(14:20):
on a stage like that. And I thought, I thought
it was spellbinding, spellbinding, Telly. You know, Chapman did a
really great job there, go Matt. He's always putting me
up for having a little popery. He did a great
he handled out with real sensitivity and good time and
good humor. But I thought it was, you know, take
all the politics out of it, as friend said, and
(14:42):
look at that it was. It was wonderful, Telly, for
a wonderful achievement. And that Dad and Ladd angle, it
plays so so strongly, you know, parent and child Jackie
as well, you know that family angle.
Speaker 6 (14:55):
And we'll come onto.
Speaker 7 (14:56):
The the the vast, the vastness of the achievement, you know,
to have all those sources in with every chance to
come into the last. So I thought that was I
thought that was the moment of the meeting by far.
And it will take a lot of topping for the
moment of the season.
Speaker 3 (15:13):
Need we were saying that the national lead did romance back.
Speaker 2 (15:16):
It's an unlikely source in a way that the biggest
superpower the sports ever seen brings it back forwards.
Speaker 3 (15:21):
But that was moment, that moment did that.
Speaker 2 (15:24):
That was just human, wasn't It wasn't raised and that
was just GC said father, and the race needed it.
Speaker 4 (15:30):
Let's be honest, the race needed a bit of that
romance back in it.
Speaker 5 (15:35):
And yeah, it felt like that provided it.
Speaker 4 (15:38):
I mean, the father and son angel of GC explained
so well, was great, but the owner as well.
Speaker 5 (15:43):
I mean, my goodness.
Speaker 4 (15:46):
The story there with the wife having had her is
it first communion Fran the way it works, the first
communion with Lilly, I mean, and then sending the horse
to him and her losing her battle with cancer, And honestly.
Speaker 3 (16:00):
It was.
Speaker 5 (16:01):
It was extraordinary, really raw emotion.
Speaker 6 (16:03):
It was.
Speaker 4 (16:04):
It was pretty special to be there and experience that
and Mallins's achievement I describe it as as Dickinson esse.
Then you could argue it was even it was just extraordinary.
What might have happened if Manella Kakuna's saddle hadn't slipped
I mean it's frightening really, I mean the whole week
was frightening from a Mullin's point of view when you
think that was his second team dominating great Ones.
Speaker 5 (16:24):
Yeah, it's it's terrifying really.
Speaker 4 (16:28):
You know, the elite have been saved for punches down
and he was absolutely rampant with his second string, I
mean the top and was just bonkers how he won
that with gentlemen to me, and then he just completely
dominated the Grand National.
Speaker 5 (16:41):
You have to absolutely marvel at it. But it's also
really scary.
Speaker 7 (16:45):
Fran What was the reaction in Ireland to Willie's emotion
because I could he was barely saying anything, just the
odd word here and there, but I could sense that
he was he was thinking about his own parents as well, wishing,
you know, that they could have been there, so that
everyone could have been present.
Speaker 6 (17:01):
Of course that's not possible.
Speaker 7 (17:02):
As people get old of it, there was something spectacular
about the whole aura around that few minutes.
Speaker 9 (17:09):
It really was.
Speaker 8 (17:10):
When you see Willie gold Cup's previous Grand Nationals, you know,
he so got it together, Dusney Graham and you know
he's dignified win or lose. There's a great clip of
him when lossy Mouth was going to win obviously the
Horle earlier in the week and he was looking back
to see how Constitution Hill was madeway through the race.
I thought that was great feeling. I think it was
the I TV cameras as well out birthday. I saw
(17:30):
it on social media and you know that's a mark
of the man. He's got his own way of doing things.
He keeps his cards close to his chest. Everything's a
measured response. But the guard dropped, and it dropped in
a really good way on Saturday, Alladay whatever, what's Patrick
thirty five years of going into going into raising a child,
(17:52):
pursuing a career and to culminating that win as well,
and the manner in which it was won for the
stable and Will he knew what was second or thurd
maybe looking on at Patrick Bouchet.
Speaker 9 (18:04):
Yeah, it was quite a feat as well.
Speaker 8 (18:06):
And one wag did say to me after Cornelliets shed
tears of giant relief after one who on the Friday,
chelm Will he's just gone en up the ante again.
So I don't know that's it's It's good to see,
isn't It's good to see what it means to these
people as well. We're in an ear of super trainers.
It's all very businesslike, but when it comes down to
(18:27):
results mean a lot and there's still an emotion there
which is good to see.
Speaker 7 (18:31):
And it shows that the sport and the history and
the legacy angle of it is play stronger than any
any financial championships.
Speaker 6 (18:39):
It's it was. It was wonderful.
Speaker 8 (18:41):
It was great, Telly and an interesting one and it
was only on Our Sporting Life Dave will have the
audio preseason tour. We're talking about the good days and
your dad training and they his dad, Paddy Mullen's got
a Trainer's Award. I was in the Kid Their Years
Go and the Hall of Fame war and the MC
(19:03):
in the day said that Don run Paddy was the highlight,
No the mayor winning the British Champion Stakes. Hurry Harriot.
I think it was nineteen six, late nineteen sixties. That
was the highlight of my career and the MC went,
why was.
Speaker 9 (19:19):
That, Paddy? You had to be there?
Speaker 8 (19:21):
And that stuck with me and I asked Willie on
the occasion that Sport Life for there, why did he
say that.
Speaker 9 (19:26):
And not Don Run? Tony didn't write Don run.
Speaker 8 (19:29):
You know, he'd been taken offer and that took the
joy out for Paddy months.
Speaker 9 (19:34):
So it comes full It.
Speaker 8 (19:35):
Comes full circle with Patrick around a winner like that,
I'd say I'd say that that going on from fourty
years ago, he knows what I meant to have Patrick
in the saddle.
Speaker 7 (19:44):
And as someone who didn't study the film for the
rest of that deeply this year it's going to go
down as one of the old time odd prices. Thirty
three to one for a host with that profile, isn't.
Speaker 9 (19:55):
It really well? I was, especially with the Bobby Joe.
Speaker 8 (20:01):
Especially with the Bobby Joe's trend in recent seasons has
been the goal to race for the National the week
after the weights are announced.
Speaker 9 (20:07):
He goes and wins it on the back of testas.
Speaker 8 (20:09):
Yeah, it's quite remarkable and day I unfortunately on Saturday
a few people text me. I tipped, excuse me, the
Gan Cromwell horse who I should run personally goal? And
I said, Nick Crockett has gone to a mad price.
You better have something name as well. But I never
never followed up myself. So there you go, and you go.
Speaker 7 (20:28):
The man to answer this question, what happens to Patrick's
percentage about forty your granded.
Speaker 9 (20:33):
Thing in Ireland.
Speaker 8 (20:35):
In Ireland, and I presume it's in England, it goes
to racing charities, so it's too as in as in
a jockey charity. I think it's Jockey Accident Fund in Ireland,
which was set up on the excuse me, the Jockey's
Emergency Fund. I mightn't have this one hundred percent, right Graham,
But in Ireland, I remember when Katie watch one day
carry National for a friend of mine got the percentage
(20:59):
went to the margins He Fund. I suppose counteract owners
putting out amateurs and getting the benefit of one hundred
percent of the prize money. And there's a mutual tax
if you like to support raising charities.
Speaker 9 (21:11):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (21:11):
Do you know what what came to mind after the
aftermath of Saturday.
Speaker 6 (21:17):
I left a tree just after.
Speaker 7 (21:19):
John Bond had won on Friday and just after the
cement footed El Fabiolo had made his latest a blunder,
And I don't know whether Patrick had been out onto
the track, but it was Lady's day. It was hopping
absolutely hoping the weather was great, hundreds of people having
a great name.
Speaker 6 (21:37):
Patrick's really tall, isn't.
Speaker 7 (21:38):
He going to be six' three dinner as a, stick
bridges on boots on some sort of, tunic military looking
type tunic on a really really striking, figure just walking
through the, crowds and nobody really recognized him because they
were all right on.
Speaker 6 (21:55):
It you, KNOW i thought it.
Speaker 10 (21:56):
Would have been a really lovely still picture of this
lone tall widthin jockey just going through the crowds Of Ladies,
day and twenty four hours later he's A nicall.
Speaker 6 (22:08):
Winner what did you make?
Speaker 4 (22:10):
Of what did you make of the? Race and your
guys at The Sporting, life what did you make of The?
Speaker 5 (22:14):
National?
Speaker 2 (22:15):
WAS i actually said To shindong the worst thing we
don't want to happening of Is Nick rocket winning islefter
Grabb patrick afterward to.
Speaker 3 (22:20):
Be maym so needless to, say we manage it from our.
Perspective it was. Fantastic praffic was.
Speaker 2 (22:26):
Strong it was a good story that The mulleins interview
ON itv made.
Speaker 3 (22:29):
It we read the human side was with.
Speaker 2 (22:32):
Show but it was also a really good. Grandash if
you look at the, horses you look at the time phone,
numbers and this is going to be an increasingly modern,
trend isn't? It one six Six Nick rocket the joint
highest since nineteen ninety. FIVE i Am maximus one six
eighteen Second up's third highest Since crisp for Beaten Grand national,
horse the actual Quality Green's Claire west. Third he's run
to a massive figure as, well given that the class
(22:54):
angle and was.
Speaker 4 (22:56):
It also sounds like it also sounds like despite the
doing thing that messing, turno it was.
Speaker 7 (23:00):
Really, yeah, angry crowded entry was at four or five,
grand wasn't it On?
Speaker 2 (23:07):
Nationaley, YEAH i think and they think THAT i had
the winds we've Got like at the, minute it.
Speaker 3 (23:13):
Just felt LIKE i thought it was a really GOOD
i found it.
Speaker 2 (23:16):
FASCINATING i thought it was a great race to, watch
the way it, unfolded the drama About he said that
it was more like an Older Grand national what there
were incidents. Happening there was more more of a curving
at that moment between the second lass and the last
where The mullings armad set sail And. EROICA i, Mean,
Fan i'd, imagine what do you want another? Girl do
you think on The eroco?
Speaker 8 (23:36):
Right?
Speaker 3 (23:36):
Fan if you could have, IT.
Speaker 9 (23:37):
I need to look back at it.
Speaker 8 (23:39):
Again dave Bush a read like it read and visually
from the, DISTANCE i was like he made up with
quite a bit of ground to get. Into it was
probably a doubt about and the, distance but what does he?
Do Two english trained horses in the first ten and
he's AND i shown ONE i, suppose but it's AS.
Speaker 6 (23:57):
I think.
Speaker 7 (23:57):
It's it's now a five year average of. Two, Yeah
british horse is in the first ten, home which is.
RIGHT i should have mentioned this, beforehand, gentle sort of
bring it on your. Slightly if there was another little,
change your tweak that you think might be made or
would like to see, made what would it be or
do you think they've reached a relatively happy medium?
Speaker 6 (24:16):
NOW i.
Speaker 5 (24:17):
WOULDN'T i wouldn't change. ANYMORE i still would love to
see more.
Speaker 4 (24:21):
Runners i'd still think that that's the one change THAT
i probably wasn't in favor.
Speaker 6 (24:26):
OF i.
Speaker 4 (24:26):
WOULDN'T i wouldn't do. Anymore we can talk about the
start of the other. Races they actually got The Grand
national one right and just going to a roco ORDIN
i Am maximus was even further back than him at
one point that an incredible race on the first.
Speaker 5 (24:39):
Circuit ap Who i'm stood next to is.
Speaker 4 (24:41):
Going he's not enjoying. It he's not enjoying. IT i
feared this might have and he's not enjoying. It how
he got into it was. Remarkable that is some race.
Hours AND i still think if he if he'd had
that run in The Bobby, joe he'd have won On.
Speaker 5 (24:53):
SATURDAY i, think are you, SAYING i know.
Speaker 3 (24:56):
We didn't have The Gold cup winner this.
Speaker 2 (24:58):
Year he'd been about seventy fived he turned off given the.
Speaker 3 (25:01):
Handicap micro is going to be right.
Speaker 2 (25:03):
Up but it struck me as well that not high
Are Maximus, Greats Claire west The hearts were The Gold cup.
WINNERS i think if they've got to be turning up
here under twelve stone for million, quid it is a
long enough gap between the.
Speaker 7 (25:14):
Two depending on the, connections you, know you need the
right type of person for that havical. Mentality but, no
it's IT'S i. Think in terms of, CHANGES i have
no strong views at the. Moment i'd have to think
a little. More but we're going to have More grade
one And grade two level chases in the, race so
if there are any, tweaks it might be to try
(25:36):
to create a, few just a small number of winning
you're in contest that enhance the winter campaign and maybe
get the The rags To riches angle at least represented
in The Grand National, AGAIN i think that might be
worth putting on on the next blank piece of paper
they use at the marketing.
Speaker 2 (25:54):
Meeting tied to the title, now but depending williable inns
springing his step he's got forty hous or what the?
Speaker 3 (26:02):
Enders SHOULD i say?
Speaker 6 (26:03):
That?
Speaker 2 (26:05):
Sat do you play golf With David casey earlier in the?
Week are they had the Close sutton team all in
on pan to defend this?
Speaker 3 (26:11):
Title?
Speaker 8 (26:11):
Now, Well i'll give you a little story on, that Say,
dave Obviously david case myself for good pals who play
golf when we can nine holds or go to to
hours whatever to get out and get. Back casey shot
him seven the fourth when he got his handicap at
at our club last year twenty so he's got to
give me six, shots SO i have every chance if
(26:32):
we ever actually played for. Money but it's good. Fun
but as regards to what will you run over the coming?
Weeks what the owner of copec to board one of the,
Lads i'm quite friendly with him with Him dave McCarty
In dubai and he texts, me just SAID i might
go Into Aaron, saturday and SO i got him playing
(26:53):
golf With David, casey his, Horse david's favorite for The
Scottish national On, saturday the one last.
Speaker 9 (27:00):
Year he's a market spring of Willis no they won
overheards last, year so he chose him.
Speaker 8 (27:08):
With this and they he, said, well you Asked david
case he's running On. Saturday we got a book flights
From dubai AND i said To, DAVID i SAID i
will worry about that and tours the. Month so so
so that's the Way Willy Willie. Rhoades obviously it's all
on the day how the hearst are. Traveling but based
on what he did last year is a great success
(27:28):
in there AND i.
Speaker 9 (27:28):
Think they enjoyed it as.
Speaker 8 (27:29):
Well they were very much welcome to their part various
meetings that they got in and the finale. Sandown SO
i feel For Dan. SKELTON i thought he in The
RACING tv piece With lady And ruby came across for
you very, well and you know he looked at home
and host Will the unthinkable happened last, weekend but with
momentum and history would, suggested given the numbers To willie
(27:50):
will throw at it that he's got to fight in
his hands down and wouldn't be won be backing Against willie.
Speaker 2 (27:55):
Distage if you Are Dan, Shelton, jase look that you
did that counting past to lie that you look you
straight down to the.
Speaker 3 (28:03):
Prize but they're, thinking, cce there we go.
Speaker 7 (28:05):
Again, yeah it's a strange thing because there's there's No David,
power you, know five hundred grand cash prize or. Anything
it's a pride in the status. Thing but if you've
come this, far you really want to win. It so
it'll be it'll be fun to watch the next couple of.
Weeks but it's the scary thing is for not just For,
dan for for. Everyone the sort of the second as
(28:28):
it touched on the second wave is better than most people's.
First the third and the fourth wave are still mighty.
Powerful so if you you've got tickets for air this,
weekend there'll be plenty OF iris, runners that's for.
Speaker 9 (28:40):
Sure just just, one just one side note An.
Speaker 8 (28:44):
Atrian we might forget as race and professionals been in
the bubble and, everything But, dave you've been in my home.
Town it can call. In it's middle a. Cclarium it's
a race mad. Town BUT i think there's about thirty
people went across from the Town Ta tree for on
a on a. Tour they just find it easier to
get in and out and go To. Cheltenham but they
(29:05):
came back On sunday morning a little worse for, aware
but they already booked accommodation for next. Year so racecore
experience a coupled With. LIVERPOOL i think it's a, big
big win if you can take out the politics at
The Grand national and you've got to remember the people
that go there year, in year, in year out are having.
Speaker 9 (29:23):
A good time as, well AND i think we forget that.
Speaker 7 (29:25):
Sometimes and it was visible how Hard entry had tried
to improve their facilities and their food and bevery options
since last. Year so hat tip to. Them they put
on a good shovel of. Weather it is a massive
help of.
Speaker 3 (29:40):
A wonderful three, days oneful three.
Speaker 2 (29:43):
Days Ad let's top book In Hill now he was
going to be posted by on day one At.
Speaker 3 (29:48):
Chamberlain where do would do we?
Speaker 6 (29:50):
Go?
Speaker 5 (29:50):
Now with him hopefully punches?
Speaker 3 (29:53):
Down do you think you'll go To?
Speaker 2 (29:54):
PUNTN'T i can't believe we'll go to punches, down But
nicki still says so doesn't He, well.
Speaker 5 (29:59):
Yeah we'll say it's not.
Speaker 4 (30:01):
Impossible it was such a fascinating race that And fan
will be able to tell you. MORE i Thought Danny
gilligan was brilliant on what who turning for? HOME i
mean it was literally heart in your mouth. Stuff the
way they boxed In nico who then pulls them out
and then that.
Speaker 5 (30:15):
HAPPENED i mean.
Speaker 4 (30:16):
It was incredible. Drama, really everyone says he jumped well
to that. POINT i mean that one in front of the,
stands he did it there as, well going, slower he
got away with. It actually Made wado take off with
it and she nearly paid the price for. That, yeah
it WAS i feel sorry for the jockeys in this.
(30:37):
Situation the abuse That nico De boynvill has had to
put up, with by the sound of, things sounds just,
horrendous really really cruel and. Unfair i'm sure he'd like
to have thinks to have played out, differently but let's
not forget what these jockeys go.
Speaker 5 (30:50):
Through and fran he was put in a.
Speaker 4 (30:53):
Box it was just compelling to watch with the Two
irish boys putting him in that hole turning for, Home
nico had a big.
Speaker 8 (30:59):
Problem to, me he, did And i'm going to say
this as ex rider who got locked up in an
eight Runner Saint leger had Don, casters so with five furlongs,
RUNNING i, THOUGHT i Thought nico was. Asleep you, Know
Danny gilligan's tactical and that decide to. MOVE i think
he's got in a habit of everyone want to Follow
(31:20):
Constitution hill and you're getting a free run around at.
Speaker 9 (31:24):
Times tactically as.
Speaker 8 (31:25):
Well you've Seen Dan challon when he won that race
In january as, well and a little bit of just
not being on your game put him in a position
that he shouldn't have been In the fall Was nicholas.
Speaker 9 (31:36):
Fault look the horse did the same thing that he
did At.
Speaker 8 (31:38):
Cheltenham but that are turning in cast to die in
some respects as, well and maybe that's a reflection of
the gulf Between irish jump race And english jump race are.
Present all the riders are going around In england in
single figure fields much of the, week AND i know
it was in a single figure, field but the tactical
AWARENESS i think of The irish based riders through riding
(31:59):
in your fields and be more aware of what's happening
and maybe a bit more competitive natured.
Speaker 9 (32:03):
RACING i think it definitely Told arn dedicasion as.
Speaker 8 (32:06):
Well and you, know the fall wasn't anything nicer could
do about, that but the mistake turning in Letting Danny,
gilligan who was very sharp and very alert to Then
paul down and seal the deal by kicking up around
him as well when he'spied his opportunity put A Constitution
hill a spot that he shouldn't have been in and
maybe just you, know outside the top two riders In.
Speaker 9 (32:28):
ENGLAND i think there's a little bit of a.
Speaker 8 (32:30):
Gulf there in tactical awareness of times with THE uk
writers due to lack of competition at.
Speaker 7 (32:34):
Times that's really interesting AND i sort of echo that,
thing AND i wonder why they're so hesitant to Show
Constitution hill the front early in a.
Speaker 6 (32:46):
Race, now if you, remember.
Speaker 7 (32:49):
You know when you win The Supreme novices and when
you run away From State, man you know he gets
to the front and when he's on, song he piles
it on and here he's hemmed in in a steadily
run tactical race with one hundred and twenty five to.
One outside are still on the bridle at that point
and the splits e quickening from fifteen and a half
to thirteen and a.
Speaker 6 (33:09):
Half AND i found that puzzling.
Speaker 7 (33:12):
The tactics because he seemed to be a completely uncomplicated
ride when he was in his.
Speaker 3 (33:16):
Pomp, YEAH i.
Speaker 2 (33:19):
AGREE i thought they'd have been more positive than there
WERE dc For henderson the. Season I've gunbond delivered Because
John bond always. Delivers but we didn't.
Speaker 3 (33:27):
See The Lamb.
Speaker 2 (33:28):
Versugino, sadly we know he's been it's just fizzled out
from where it looked to be going in sort Of
January february time.
Speaker 7 (33:34):
Slightly and it's, misfortune isn't. It it's hard Look Constitution,
hill it's injury for So.
Speaker 6 (33:40):
Gino he may well regret not having to go With
La lamber on day.
Speaker 7 (33:44):
One waited Till saturday in the ground ride up and
didn't want to go on that. Surface so, yeah it
has been a bit of a frustrating week or two
in some, Respects but As ed, said they've got the
chance to end with a mighty bang At Punches down
and that big, race that Big grade one there if
(34:05):
we could get Brighter day's, Ahead Golden, ace The statesman
And Constitution. Hill that would be a hell of a
hurdle race for the end of the.
Speaker 6 (34:14):
Season it.
Speaker 2 (34:15):
Was it was Interesting willy after lost his. Mouth somebody,
said But chigo for the Punches. Town he, Said i'll
no State man's going. There she might, do but we,
Said stateman's all guns blazing for, that so he's definitely on.
Speaker 7 (34:25):
Target before we move on to one's with, you how
much did los In mouth have been? Handed because it's
interesting to note that she only ran to one fifty
one on the time form, scale so you have to think,
that you, know a fit and Firing Constitution hill would
have given her a right. SHAKE i know she had
a bit in, hand but she had to be livened
(34:47):
up and given a few cracks to us over a
cracking filly in Wad Who but it's all lifts and
butts and in the middle Of april almost we still
don't know who the best two mile hurdler is two and.
Speaker 2 (34:59):
A half mile doing the quest will continue through to
punch out on that. One let's Talk GAELIC a great
time for that felt like a really significant. Win Fame
i've Said i've lost the COUNTERTIMES i said he's a
three mile quick ground but not be. Listening but what
do you think For gaelic were.
Speaker 3 (35:19):
Going to see? Him King george is a nice as
like that from.
Speaker 8 (35:21):
Now, Yeah and it was spoken about With william and
we're down the early season and as a Potential King george.
Horse obviously his season got going later and they went
to two mile routes At christmas with, Him. Dave but
he's found his niche and when he, WON i was
in the three Mile Loves grade one to punch his.
Town he, won he overheard he was very very impressed
on that. Occasion, obviously the soft ground in THE arca
(35:45):
last year and a bit of class got him home
at that. Occasion but with hindsight he's found his niche
at least some good ground over three, miles and one
would think he has to be on you, know his
early season target has to be The King george flat
track going right. Handed he's going to be better going right,
handed the way he. JUMPS i can jumps. Right he
didn't as much over the mild course ridden, cold but
(36:07):
you'd have to think The King george would be made
from base what we've seen as, well and just shows
you whatever happens To. Willis you, know In, december people
are saying he's got A Novis, harler worked anything really
and then come To domin race and, festival he's got
a battalion and get aquarried in.
Speaker 9 (36:24):
Shape all that well there again on that.
Speaker 8 (36:26):
Occasion but come To, spring come the, air come to,
horse come To man's amazing for the.
Speaker 7 (36:31):
Race i'm, thinking how's this? Thing eleven to? Four, yeah
but as you, say it's just you knew you were in.
Trouble the more the money kept. Coming if you'd laid
him AND i, didn't he's normally the word to lay
at that, price then he's going to run really.
Speaker 6 (36:47):
Wearier then money's telling me.
Speaker 4 (36:48):
That scoop tipped him in the, morning, yeah and not riding.
Speaker 5 (36:53):
Him then he's Sure scoop was absolutely, bullish wasn't.
Speaker 2 (36:56):
It it was Tragic and the one thing that's to
me with more with that four grade ones on that
day and what. Happened he's winning races For simon and
here at Alatac, swade he's winning for The, donaldies he's,
winning he's winning For, alexander he's winning For Rich, rich you,
know owners have all enjoyed great, seasons but now they've
had days in the Sun grade one days in the
sun in the, spring just when the shopping start In.
(37:19):
Finex yet his ability to keep all these people AND
i don't, REALLY i don't know the people you'd imagine,
egos successful business people don't tend to.
Speaker 3 (37:26):
Be shy and coming.
Speaker 2 (37:28):
Forward he's ability to keep them all sweet when they're
not the biggest fish in the. Pond Is it's one
of his many, streets isn't.
Speaker 5 (37:34):
It he's the.
Speaker 4 (37:36):
Master of, that and fran will know it's better than.
Me but he goes to every Dance willie in terms of,
socially in terms of things that are laid, on he's
there at the weights lunch and he's just brilliant at.
It he's such a, mercurial engaging. CHARACTER i think the
most remarkable thing about those winners, though al day and
you can include the fifth grade one and the top
(37:59):
Of none of them were.
Speaker 5 (38:00):
Favorite no one of them was the.
Speaker 6 (38:01):
Favorite.
Speaker 7 (38:03):
Yeah the only one that was favorite of the eight
winners was the bumper winner right at the, END wu wasn't?
Speaker 9 (38:07):
It?
Speaker 3 (38:09):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (38:09):
Yeah AND i realized that seeing there were a few
finer sights in raising The Paul nichols with a spring
and this step and it's. Back it's been a good
spring FOR paula felt really. Significant Caldwell, Potter Khalif, Berleigh
Regent stroll running.
Speaker 3 (38:24):
Well that the chef was the chest was puffing out.
Speaker 7 (38:26):
Again, yeah that brought Up matt's not on the show
The brock, today but he said he you can't See
nichols ever winning another.
Speaker 6 (38:34):
TITLE i certainly can if things go.
Speaker 7 (38:37):
Right and to get all those horses to peak last
week was you, know because they've all had a few
brick bats along the way this season for various. Reasons
but he's got them all to peak at the right.
Time they'll need to keep progressing to to beat off
the mullin stars next winter as and when those battles.
Happened But Corwell potter in particular has really been you,
(38:59):
know very few horses has won at Both best of,
all how many lost his mouth and him was? IT
i Think cheltenham and, yah, yeah and you know lost his.
Mouth shelterenham win was A it was a penalty kick
in many respects and fortune was on the side the other.
Day Cole Walt potter has had to win a big
time handicap jumping like a book and then show tremendous
(39:20):
courage When jordan's came to cool last. Week so he's
obviously a high quality horse and he's a very exciting
host to watch because he lets rip a dispenses and and.
Speaker 4 (39:29):
Fran you talked about The british jockeys struggling to a certain.
Extent how good Is Harry, cobden particularly from the front like.
Speaker 8 (39:36):
That harry Conn Harry, Cobden James bonner gy to. WATCHHEAD
i think they're just far ahead of. Arrivals And Harry
cobden the jump he got out of the gray horse
at last was you, know it Was Norman williamson Esque Ruby,
walchesk who was just all momentum of his do or
die as, such AND i don't like using that word
in the context of entry. Both you, know he asked
(39:57):
him and he got to win a response for his
horse and that made it difference between winning and.
Speaker 9 (40:02):
Losing he's a great rider.
Speaker 8 (40:03):
To, watch and you, Know i'm sure he doesn't have
an easy task day today when things aren't going well
With Paul. Nichols we know he's a hard task master
ride for but he, seems by all accounts and from
What i'm, hearing well able to deal with him.
Speaker 9 (40:16):
As, well good days of bad. Days he's obviously got
a very.
Speaker 8 (40:19):
Good awareness of himself and self confidence as, well and,
yeah he'd hold his own. Anywhere Harry compton that that
was a really good right to watch as, well AND
i thought one of the most interesting takeaways pre entry
was the phone call Of Johnny brooks agent To Paul,
nichols saying that he was jumping chip to ride For William.
MULLENS i thought it's maybe the way the game has,
(40:41):
gone or just the shoes on the other, foot but
it came good for Team nichols as the week went.
Speaker 7 (40:45):
On there's always a couple of golden nuggets in Any
nichols interview and he doesn't mean any, harm but sensitivity
is not always the strongest.
Speaker 6 (40:57):
Point and he said after Co World, Pottery.
Speaker 7 (41:00):
John hills always said he was a two, miler BUT
i told him he was a three.
Speaker 4 (41:03):
MILEER i Thought Harry Harry skelton's interview was one of
the best of the week actually when he spoke ABOUT
i think they'd come second again to one Of mullins's
and he he was walking up the, steps and he
talked about his admiration For, mullins but also the determination
it's up to them to catch.
Speaker 5 (41:21):
UP i thought that was that was quite healthy to. Hear,
YEAH i would tell.
Speaker 2 (41:26):
The Story flan About Johnny burke's agent who but refewed To.
Speaker 3 (41:29):
Nichols so his agent To nichols to say was getting
off For Marly.
Speaker 2 (41:33):
Kakuna the agent said he got above as you would,
expect and felt put it. Down AND i realized that
to bring him back in half an hour to try
to get one of his other jockeys on.
Speaker 3 (41:43):
When another go it came up, empty but he went
in another, Go SO i might thinking.
Speaker 7 (41:47):
That and they've had a fantastic time of It fergie
and then, boys they've not had a horse as yet
With Willie mullins as far AS i.
Speaker 6 (41:56):
Can, recall have THEY i. Think so they're going all
right where they are.
Speaker 8 (42:01):
With don't, think don't think so horns to The rock
And gibraltar for some.
Speaker 5 (42:07):
Reason, yes.
Speaker 3 (42:13):
Before we, leaving one thing that did strike, YOU a wonderful.
Speaker 2 (42:17):
Festival it's going on the time and you realize when
you're watching the racing that leap from The british horses
that go in there with big Time Von p's and
one novice at the small, attraction they've had to take
the step. Up it's a leap, nowadays isn't when you're
coming in even against The, mullins as you, say be
team with the occasional aylists are thrown in.
Speaker 3 (42:35):
There and that's.
Speaker 6 (42:39):
Sorry what's the question, then was how big.
Speaker 3 (42:42):
It is from The British. No one or two plus?
Part do you?
Speaker 7 (42:46):
KNOW i Thought gidley park and like he's going to
be a pretty good. Horse he wasn't quite good enough
against one pass who's. Tricky he hung left, again but
he jumped and travel like a horse who's got, potential
Potential grade one. QUALITY i think Great. DAWNING i didn't
think he lost anything in defeat Behind Gaelic. Warrior maybe
(43:09):
A betfair chase on slightly less demanding ground might be
the race for. Him but the, depth, now we've talked
about it for, years not. Months we're looking at a
very very small core Of british horses who have any
pretension to beating the best of The irish and especially
the best of The mullins, battalion and.
Speaker 5 (43:29):
Just to finish with a word on The national and
what we talked. About what do you think we can do?
Speaker 4 (43:33):
More how can we increase that viewer, number increase engagement
with the. RACE i understand what you're saying about The NATIONAL,
gc but it still does remain, very very. Popular i'm
at a loss when you look at the numbers and the.
Show i'm not sure WHAT i can do.
Speaker 7 (43:50):
Exactly that five million is still a hell of a.
Crowd it's still a hell of an. Occasion and having
been on this, bandwagon everyone, says blame the. Weather the
weather has been a significant. Factor you know that that
can MAKE i would say at least a million or
a million plus of. Difference i'm not sure BECAUSE i
(44:14):
THINK i look at my son and his pals and
they're sports. Fans there's something about it that doesn't resonate with.
THEM i THINK i think younger people buy and large
live a more, comfortable somewhat risk averse. Life And i'm
(44:36):
talking in terms of punting and wagering and what have.
Speaker 6 (44:38):
You the lives are.
Speaker 7 (44:39):
Controlled they have enormous options now in terms of social leisure,
activities modern, media et. CETERA i think that crowd will
go up. AGAIN i think it will go up when
it's a really wet. Day everyone's staying at. Home in
terms of promotion of the, RACE i THINK bha and
various local spokesmen and spokeswomen have done a great, job
(45:03):
but the reach is not as substantial as those who
are anti the, project and that's.
Speaker 6 (45:11):
Problematic very.
Speaker 3 (45:13):
Interesting we're going to talk About maid and now from.
Speaker 2 (45:20):
And if you're looking at the cool maar magic, From
i'm looking at the, ability the slight gold first one
in the colors for believing so often The bridesmaid in
twenty twenty four and just shy of a million du
bad dollars snared in that.
Speaker 3 (45:35):
SPRING i mean they bought it as a brood. Man
it's a good start to hear. Season it.
Speaker 9 (45:40):
Is, Indeed dave And, day what does she? Cause three?
Speaker 8 (45:43):
Millions starling, says from WHAT i can, recall and she
got a fair you, know chunk for back in one
goal under a very good ride aft made and from
William buck To pace was very hot on the front.
Speaker 9 (45:52):
End you get the feeling that.
Speaker 8 (45:54):
The japanese horse maybe got raising too, early but he
got caught late on By philly that can finish strongly as.
Well and she tries some good, ground fast ground and
one would think at the age of five maybe the
best yet to come from her as. Well and she's
bought as A brewmair. Prospect she's a may. Mass she'll
fit him very well with the Cool more band of
stallions as teams stand as. Well but a good return
(46:18):
to for them and a big voter conference For George
boy as well to retainer as. Well you often get
these horses being sold and moving To, ballydyle obviously With
dave Storm by The stare From. Australia different scenario this,
year but we have seen EX uk trained horse spotted
the sales in the past by Cool more partners switching
Tonor brian as. Well and this and From france as,
well just wanted staying with ITS uk based.
Speaker 9 (46:41):
Trainer so that's a good voter conference for him as.
Speaker 7 (46:43):
Well And Resolute racing a partner in believing as well
That John, stewart This american owner who's making a big
splash and he's very very keen on fan. Engagement he's
an interesting character to watch this. Year he's also The
King george withan And, goliath doesn't he who who's figures
among the entries for THE q Two cup In Hong.
(47:03):
Kong night's time lucky for believing At group one. Level
we've been keeping count last year and she finally got
it all.
Speaker 3 (47:10):
Right jas was a really interesting.
Speaker 2 (47:13):
Car But Forever Young, romantic while we're both, beaten what
did you make of their?
Speaker 7 (47:18):
Performances you have to think that to a major and minor,
level they both recoiled somewhat from that innovating duel In
saudi six. Weeks they had six weeks to, recover but
they had a right scrap that, day And Forever young
was definitely not the same. Horse he got beaten by
Hit shaw and mixed sixty six to one and forty
(47:39):
in The Dubai World, cup which is a race that's
ailing a. BIT i think these days it's not attracting
THE a listers and it's producing some pretty odd. Results
Romantic warrior gave his all as he always, does but
he didn't have much in hand Of Soul rush on
a couple of bits of form one In japan last
year and he got snagged right on the. Line so
(48:00):
it's been a brilliant world tour for, him.
Speaker 6 (48:03):
You, know Winning, dubai winning In, australia et.
Speaker 7 (48:06):
Cetera but beaten a neck In saudi and a nose
at the. Weekend AND i know what The Hong kong
fans are, like are, passionate but they tend to think
the second. Sucks you, know they count wins and they'll
be going home somewhat frustrated by not having one In.
Speaker 2 (48:23):
Saudi and and slanet was calandergan in the sham of
classic author expecting to be a big part of the
major racers in your this. Season what did you make
for that that performance from?
Speaker 8 (48:35):
Him, look it was a good run as, Well. Dave
he's very consistent at the top level as. Well he
just probably is vulnerable to the likes of a city of,
tryer A horset Like dan And desail who was probably
underrating the. Market Japanese derby winner fast, ground he needed
a good gallop to him out on a long. Straight
he got that again and made down a you know
(48:56):
track in similar layout To Tokyo Race course where he
use his best formance as well performance as, Well and
it just goes to show you that he was the
second or third string in the betting as A japanese
runner and A Japanese derby winner and they come out and.
Win the strength and debt to have on in turf
contest as well as dirt race is a massive fan.
(49:16):
Day i'd be a bit like Graham. A i don't
think they do By World cup since it went back in.
DIRT i enjoyed when it's. On tapeta has captured imagination
in the same manner that he used to win his
random Na. Achiba for whatever, reason as you, said Maybe
grain DAY a listeners aren't traveling as, well and you
know The japanese tend to have a strong hand and
it came up short against Two americans this.
Speaker 9 (49:37):
Year maybe it's.
Speaker 8 (49:38):
Timing this, year it's later than the normal to clash
with The Grand national and being In, april it didn't
have it to itself on a world stage on the.
Day but, say the turf racing is formally holding up
in a top, level but the dirt racing for me
is a little bit below.
Speaker 6 (49:52):
That thank you was in the.
Speaker 7 (49:54):
News his people asked the media not to ask any
questions away from the subject to horse racing if he.
Speaker 6 (50:01):

would be kept. Up he won a big.

just touched off in The Big one on forty to
one chance.
Speaker 6 (50:16):
Mixed so a few.
Speaker 7 (50:18):
Financial problems For, frankie BUT i reckon just doing a
quick divvy up of the prize winning of the. WEEKEND
i think he trousered just either side of two hundred thousand,
Sterling so it's not all bad if You're franky at the.
Speaker 6 (50:29):
Moment you'll be seeing him At Royal aska ed maybe The.
Speaker 7 (50:35):
