Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is sporting life.
Speaker 2 (00:05):
Well welcome along to the Spartan I Racing Podcast from
Lyle Ascott Preview, David R john Bike Chamberlain, Game Cunningham,
Billy and Ash and David Johnson. But before we look
ahead to our Scott, we should look back at EPSOM.
Had plenty of headlines since the Bedford Dharby Festival. What
we are takeaways as you came home.
Speaker 1 (00:25):
I take away that sport sport events in particular, they
just go in and out of fashion, don't they. And
the moment that the truth is the Derby, for whatever
reason it is, does not resonate with sports fans anything
like the way it used to. I mean the crowd
we talked about it, didn't we This time last week
the crowd was pretty much unfortunately as we expected. The
(00:46):
ITV viewing number was up on last year, but again
still nothing to write home about. And the Derby and
the Grand National do still remain our Achilles heel. But
we're very good at beating ourselves up, aren't we. Particularly
about that weekend at EPSOM, and I guarantee you in
ten days time already we're going to be feeling completely different,
because I'm pretty sure We're going to be looking back
(01:07):
at a spectacular Royle ask at the weather's set fair
and I think it's going to be the envy of
the racing world.
Speaker 3 (01:14):
And what a contrast it is.
Speaker 1 (01:15):
And I think epsom's biggest problem, the biggest problem they have,
is that it's overshadowed by asket. It looms, doesn't It
looms ominously around the corner every year at EPSOM.
Speaker 3 (01:26):
There was no royal. I don't think was there at all?
Speaker 1 (01:29):
Was there again, it's a big thing at EPSOM people
some people certainly love rubbing shoulders with royalty and there
was none of that last weekend. What a contrast we've
got coming. And Ascot's been fantastic for us at ITV
and truth. When we started we had a holy grail
of trying to reach a million viewers on a weekday
and I'll be disappointed eight years later we don't get
a million every day next week. And I was at
(01:51):
Lords yesterday, I was in London yesterday and across London,
any of you've been there, tubes, billboards, taxis just screams asking.
It's got this picture of the person escaping to ask it.
It's very very clever and ASKT of moved with the
times is the best way to describe it. I think
at least two days going to be sold out. If
it's all about costs, and cost is very very important.
(02:12):
Cost is a massive thing. But how does that happen
at Ascot? Someone explained that to me because Ascot has
got to be one of the most expensive tickets in sport,
and yet they're so clever. It's all about aspiration and
there's something for everyone these days that a modern day
role asket, I would say, and there's always one level
up on whatever you choose to do wherever you choose
to be, be that a picnic on the heath or
(02:34):
they've got twenty nine Michelin stars at ASKT next week.
I mean, it's ridiculous. And you look during the role procession,
you look down the track and I reckon over two furlongs,
You've probably got a cross section of society right there.
Ascot connects with the local community. That's a big thing.
They have a ballot for tickets for locals. They've got
local schools coming to watch, five hundred school kids to
(02:55):
come and cheer their role procession. They've got local produce,
they've got I think unlike Saturday at EPSOM. I think
what they've really got is the relentlessly high quality of racing.
You look at the cards, I mean the Group one
blitz on Tuesdays extraordinary. There's pump, there's pagetry, there's popping corks,
but there's also the racehorse at the center of it,
and Flist Barnard the new boss. There is Adam and
(03:16):
the racing stays as the star attraction. I go there
on Monday morning, just finally, auding. I go there on
Monday morning and I'm given a two hour tour of
the site from the chairman, the chief executive, the director
of racing, the head of hospitality. Not many other tracks
do that, and I just think York Goodwood ask it.
They're clever. They listen to the customer. They show off
(03:36):
what's the best things, the great things about British racing,
and they're in fashion and audy.
Speaker 3 (03:42):
It works.
Speaker 2 (03:45):
Doc Jamalini charged out the jockey clueps and was discribed
as the problem child before last year's Derby.
Speaker 4 (03:52):
It's still not towing the line.
Speaker 5 (03:53):
Is he I'm not sure. I'm not sure because the
break from the pod has been lovely for me because
it means I absolutely I just got that horse that race.
I don't have to doom scroll and be part of
this media handwringing whenever there's a negative or damaging story.
(04:15):
And it's fantastic, absolutely fantastic, but I do miss having
the chance to have a bit of fun with the
hilarious things that this sport throws up and it still delivers,
and there were a few last week. I think this
came in on Sunday morning. It was sent to me.
I don't do LinkedIn, but it came on LinkedIn from
(04:36):
the boss man I call him Charlie Boss. This is
the group Chief Executive Brackets Interim of the Jockey Club.
This is what he put on LinkedIn after a derby
which was massively underwhelming. It was jarring, as you know, lads,
you know being at EPSOM, it was jarring the sight
of that incredibly sparse crowd and most of all, and
(05:00):
this is a seminal moment in racing's barmie status. At
the moment, the two thousand Guineas winner, the star attraction
of the day, potentially withdrawn from the derby about ninety
one hundred minutes before the big race on good ground,
good ground officially good ground and time form. It wasn't raining,
(05:22):
it didn't rain until after the derby, and not a
bleeding peep from anyone. The fan base and the media
are absolutely shot shot now the battle weary and something
like that hardly generates a peep. That's not funny. This
is from the boss Man, Charlie boss On LinkedIn Waking
(05:44):
this morning, feeling very proud of the team of the
Jockey Club for the Bedford Derby this week. We battle
the rainal wind at epsom Downs to deliver a derby
for the Ages with a global audience in over one
hundred and seventy countries watching. It's utterly, utterly tone death,
but it's also hilarious. And then to top it all
(06:06):
further down, I don't like it reporters read from the phone,
but I'm going to make an exception here Blakey, he's
a colleague and a pal Kevin blake That is an
all time, an absolute all time of what he did
on ITV racing to come up with the first three
in the Darby. Lamborne was definitely double figures in the morning.
Lazy Griff and Tennessee stood where any price should care
(06:28):
to name and to use his stride frequency, striding bros
and sectional timings, et cetera to come up with the
first three was absolutely unbelievable. Now Here comes Johnny Deneen
from the Racing Post Pro punter. Now Johnny Dean said beforehand,
I liked listening and reading his stuff. He rubbished the
(06:50):
Dante form and it made me worry because I thought
the Dante might be a key race and he was
absolutely right, dead right. But the day after, four hours
after Blakie does a Hall of Fame piece of analysis
on live television on the opening show, here comes Johnny
Denneen off the top rope. I have no interest in
(07:11):
stride patterns, times and the latest finishing speed nonsense that's
being fed to us. So we'll probably see what where
the markets lean before making a proper selection. So not
here for any of this news negativity. I am here
at one hundred percent for the hilarity that this sport
keeps engendering.
Speaker 2 (07:32):
You will never stop that doing saying DJ type form
rating for Lamborn one two, I think two or three.
It puts him with a city of trig territory, isn't
it In terms of dabbu with in performances.
Speaker 6 (07:47):
Yeah, it's on the lower spectrum of some of Aidan O'Brien's.
You know, he's got to quite a few nows comparing
to I think High Chaparral and Galileo. They were nudging
the one thirty barrier. And I mean it was just
a really uneventful Derby, wasn't it. It was pretty much
over from very early on. And it is one of
(08:10):
those results. It's what you see is what you get.
Kind of Lamborn benefited from a really good ride and
he just does look in the mold of one of
those grinding types. And I was going through the stats
of O'Brien's previous Derby winners and obviously ten prior to Saturday,
and I think only four of them were able to
drop down in trip and win a group one over
(08:31):
ten furlongs City of Troy, august Row Down, Australia and
High Chaparral who did that, but only did that when
he came back as a four year old. And I'd
just be very surprised if Lamborn even sort of attempted that.
You get the impression that they see him as a
stay you know, he's gone the staying route from the trial,
(08:51):
hasn't he You know, he was one of those that
had already proven himself over a mile and a half
and he does look much more likely, I think, to
go and run well and probably win a simple edia,
then come back in trip and try and mix it
in something like the jud Mount International later in the season.
Speaker 4 (09:07):
And Billy it was a great weekend.
Speaker 2 (09:08):
It was ever thus at Epsom for aid in all
three group ones, Fantastic Oaks finished Mini Hall and World
and Jan Brugle. It was really the way he spoke
afterwards about that Yan Brugol Calandigan battle in the Press
Cup was just magical out of it that their whole
battle plan was to get Calandigan on his knees at
the two furlong pole and get him into a brawl.
(09:29):
He said, if you come at Yan Brugles slow, you
won't get past him, and he came as slow aiden
in great format.
Speaker 4 (09:35):
But what did you make of those performances?
Speaker 7 (09:37):
Yeah, like you said, Jan Brugle, we discussed him last
week on the part and you know weren't very complimentary
about him after his comeback effort at the Chorra. But
in fairness, bond right back to his best nothing wrong
with his attitude last weekend, and you'd have to say
probably old steed Lan again. Maybe I'd battle them as well,
but certainly outstayed and I think and fully deserving winnen.
(09:57):
On the day the Oaks looked the I suppose it
kind of fell into their lap as small. But with
Desert Flower really not running her race, I don't think
you can say that that the distance necessarily beat her.
She didn't not stay the trip she does never looked
particularly happy to me, and it started left it up to.
Speaker 8 (10:14):
Aiden's too, World and Minihawk to fight out the finish.
Speaker 7 (10:16):
For a long way I thought World was going to
get the better of that argument with Mini Hawk outstay,
And as DJ said, the Derby was I hate to
use the word boring, but it not really much happened
in the race. I mean you could see, like if
it was a bit of a foregun conclusion from early
in the strait delighted to see why Lordon win it,
But you know, Lomborn looks an ordinary Derby winner at
(10:38):
this stage. Maybe a few of the ones in behind
them might even get to you know, hopefully we'll get
to take them on again at.
Speaker 5 (10:44):
The Irish Derby.
Speaker 8 (10:45):
We'll see what happens there.
Speaker 7 (10:46):
But great beginning for Aiden, but none of the races,
you know, maybe it'll be interesting to see how they
what effect they have on the pattern season as it progresses,
because none of those horses are maybe top that, you know,
outstanding her was at this stage.
Speaker 2 (11:02):
Now GZ I was completely agree Reruling cart. I couldn't
believe there's a lack of crowd reaction the news he
was coming out out that was announced to the race.
I thought there was even a murmur of a groan
from the stands at the Guineas mid But that does
mean get they head to head in the St James's Palace.
G see the rematch with Field of Gold. The market
says the guinea second takes his revenge comfortably. So how
(11:22):
do you say it?
Speaker 5 (11:23):
It's probably right. And my short assessment would be not
so much to dwell on the tactics employed at new Market,
but to just say simply, the field of Gold has
definitely improved since Newmarket based on that Curra romp. And
we're not sure quite what Ruling Court has done in
the interim. So the fact that the Field of Gold
has gone on and put up what I would consider
(11:45):
to be a better performance at the current would sway
me in his direction. But it looks it looks a
tremendous race because if you when you design that race,
your dream scenario is the English winner, the Irish Guineas
winner and the French Guineas winner, and it looks like
we'll have all three, which is great.
Speaker 2 (12:06):
And David does a bend. Could that change the scenario?
Does that change things significantly?
Speaker 9 (12:12):
It could do that.
Speaker 6 (12:13):
The drawer might be interesting and obviously it's going to
give Colin Keen or William Buick a decision to make,
dependent on where they are. But I think it's quite
easy to try and tie yourself in knots. And you
know what's the phrase analysts analysis by paralysis or vice versa.
(12:34):
I think you know I've gone down that road many
times with the Saint James's Palace, thinking, oh, greater tests
to speed than the guineas and it'll form turn around
that kind of thing, and I just don't think it
does tend to be. I think we underestimate what a
test is. Stammin at the round miles still is it ascot?
You know they do start whether and there is still
(12:55):
a bit of a hill that they have to climb,
so I wouldn't be getting too carried away in terms
of that, and I think just concentrating on what the
best horses and like GC says, what Field of Gold
did in Ireland suggests that's him. But I thought one
of the interesting things about Ruling Course missing the Derby
is how we've got such a big change in terms
(13:17):
of where these horses go. You know Royal Ascott, We've
now got Ruling Court here, a shadow of lights probably
not going to take in this race. He's going to
go sprinting and it just sort of mixes things up
and all these races that we thought we were going
to get they're going to look a little bit different
just as a result of that one decision at EEPs
and last Saturday.
Speaker 5 (13:37):
Wind Lord is going to be a key component in
this race for Field of Gold, isn't he? Because he's
he's going to be in to make the pace and
the tactical shape of that race will develop behind him,
you would think, And.
Speaker 2 (13:49):
It's probably the first, I think one of the first
second big ride for Colin Keen has retained rider and
the jud once ell you'd be excited to get in
a board Field of Goldn't you back on him obvious,
big time.
Speaker 1 (14:01):
Big time. He's got a high pressure a few days,
hasn't he? But I do think Field of Gold is
going to take an awful lot of beating.
Speaker 5 (14:09):
Here.
Speaker 1 (14:09):
One cheer you might have heard when Ruling Court came
out of the Darby was from the commentary box because
Hoyles was all over Shadow of Light for the Commonwealth Cup.
So he will be delighted if Ruling Court goes Saint
James's in Shadow of Light goes Commonwealth Cup, where he
could be something very good over over six furlongs. But
it's a really good Saint james Palace this as Gcy says,
it's got what you want for me. I just think
(14:29):
Field of Gold is going to prove to be much the.
Speaker 5 (14:31):
Best potential negative for mister Hoyle's there. His Field of
Gold's presence in the Saint James's Palace means John quill
is going to go for the Commonwealth Cup. And we'll
come on to that later. Because they're two high quality horses.
Speaker 2 (14:45):
Billy, we need a line on Mattie I said would
never win another Group one after his Breeders Cup success
and off the back of his friends two thousand.
Speaker 7 (14:55):
Yeah, I think he's one of the real breed of
bally Dieharst's possibly a little bit under estimated in that.
Speaker 8 (15:01):
You know, he blotted his copy book once or twice
last year already.
Speaker 7 (15:04):
He should have won a national sax of the Coral,
I thought, and he probably beat himself on that occasion.
Speaker 8 (15:08):
They tried blinkers on him in France. That didn't work,
but they.
Speaker 7 (15:11):
Seem to have found the key to him since, and
the key to him appears to be a very well
run race on quick ground. You know, the breeders cups
seemed to suit him down to the ground. He was
quick ground in France and they went hard and it
really suited him. And I think that's what they'll try
to do again at Ascott. If they have officer on
the first wave in the race. GC already mentioned the
wind order to be in it, so I think there'll
(15:31):
be loads of pace on here. They'll want to go
hard for running the tease, but that will also help
the other two protagonists. Field of Golden Ruling Court like
the lads. I was hugely impressed with Field of Gold
at the Kurra, and I think the other significant factor
is that Colin Keen now knows him a little bit
better than he did at the Corral. I think he
may have held on to him a little bit longer
at the Corara had he ridden him before, because he
(15:52):
hit the front a long way out of the Corral.
Now he might have been mindful of what happened at
new Market. But he'll know him a bit better, he'll
be more confident in them. I think everything pints to
Field of Gold. I said about Ruling Horde last week
go into the Derby. I thought that was an after thought.
Well this is an after and after taught to run
them back here. They've been training them for the Derby.
Look I don't all I wouldn't fancy myself. I think
(16:14):
I think this is Field of Gold's race that it
was to be.
Speaker 2 (16:16):
Honest, and let's talk about the Queen Anne. But always
the best first race of any meeting, and this year
an intrigue ven deal with a lock insurmatch.
Speaker 1 (16:24):
Oh Blockbuster starts the meeting and what a day's racing.
This is what a day's racing this is And the
Queen Anne GC says that Saint James's Palace is what
you want This is what you want in a Queen Anne,
isn't it? Rematch? Love a rematch, And there's four of
them having a rematch from the lockings, which I'm sure
we'll watch over and over again because they're all fancy
their chances again. You know, the winner lead artists, the
(16:45):
second dancing Gemini. I'm sure you know Ryan doesn't make
too many erarors, but I'm sure you'd love another go
at that. Resalian and Notable Speech will definitely come on
for it. And I know on the opening show that
day they said the lock into is a group one,
it's not a prep, but but it looked a prep
to me, particularly for a Salian. He was too free
in the race. He was definitely rusty. I think he'll
(17:06):
take a massive step forward. Notable Speech might as well,
but I haven't forgiven Notable Speech or what happened to
Royle Asket last year.
Speaker 3 (17:12):
And there's others in the race as well.
Speaker 1 (17:13):
It's an absolute belting start at the meeting, but I
think I'm going to go in with Rassalian order to
take a big strike forward from the lock inch. I
think if there is one horse, they might be all
much from much as they might be but I think
if there is a real, real top not show, it's Retalian.
Speaker 2 (17:28):
For me, Billy it was, it was Billy.
Speaker 4 (17:31):
It was interesting.
Speaker 2 (17:32):
On the Nick Look Daily podcast earlier this week, which
is Adam was interviewed and said that Sean Levy got
off Italian and said we'll win the Queen Anne.
Speaker 4 (17:39):
They spoke to Charlie apple Be late.
Speaker 2 (17:40):
In the afternoon, who said that William Buwick had gone
off notable speech as they will win the Queen Anne
within that territory, I with nobody actually really knows to
be fascinating to find.
Speaker 7 (17:49):
Out, Like you know, as as Ed said there, I
mean all four of these will will fancy their chances
next week. I must admit I'm in the same boats
as Ed here because I thought Rasalian ran a smashing
race that day, and I think, yes, it wasn't the
prep run per se, but I think it should set
him up nicely because obviously he missed a good chunk
of last season, and I think he'll come on a
(18:11):
lot again. Like Ed notable speeches. Ascal performance last year
was massively underwhelming, and it would be a negative from
my point of view. You know, he seemed a little
bit hit or miss last year. We know he's very talented,
but I just thought his performance at ASCA wasn't great
last year, and I would be inclined to not so
(18:31):
much overlook him, but I'd certainly be happy enough to
take him on lead artist. He's entitled to improve again
himself from it, but I just think everything points to Rosalian.
I thought it was a really good comeback effort. I
think he'll be hard to beat. The You know, it's
we're talking about the four of them. It's not just
the four of them. You obviously have international runners as well,
(18:51):
Karen Sparkler. I'm sure we'll get onto and Eden will
probably run the ego of Alaska's, who was progressive himself
last year. He won a Group three and a Group
two with Leopardstone. We don't know if he quite grew
one level. He was being lined up for the Breeders
gott Mylin didn't make it, and it's his first start
of the season. So even though he might develop into
a Broup one horse later in the year, this is
a very tough ASCA in first time out.
Speaker 8 (19:11):
So I'm gonna go with it here, and I'm gonna
go with residing.
Speaker 2 (19:15):
Jac One of your early views of this queen anp well,
every time I look at the Lockinge, that must be
the key guide.
Speaker 5 (19:22):
And I've looked at it. I was there on the day,
I've seen it multiple times since, and I just think,
let's face it, you can make a case for any
of them. For those four, you really can. And I
wonder if as Billy touched on, I think there might
be more to it than the lockrange. And I'm quite
intrigued by this Sardinian warrior who is He's not a
big prize he's only seven to one I think, but
(19:43):
he's crept up on the blind side from through the
handicapped ranks, really good performance course and distance to get
the better of last year's Queen Anne runner up Docklands
in that Paradise stakes and a very good performance quickly
quite well then not quite able to contain Soulsi over
eighteen hundred meters nine furlongs last time. And I think
(20:05):
he's rated one one seven bh low one twenties time form.
There's not that big a gap between the Lockings principles
and him to make me think that this fellow can't
get amongst them. So it's a really tight market this
but I think Sardinian Warrior has a fur bordive upside
certainly when in place.
Speaker 2 (20:26):
And DJ in terms of time for eightings, I think
it's for sallycos out on top, but would.
Speaker 6 (20:30):
Only just yeah, exactly pretty much throw a blanket over them.
Rassalium one thirty eight, Notable speech Lead Artist one thirty seven,
Dancing Gemini one thirty six, which tells you a lot.
They're about the lock Engine. I sort of saw of
a similar way to GC well certainly the same same
working out but different results. And I came down on
(20:52):
lake Forest, who I think it's really interesting that they're
going to run him here and he's got the running
style that I think he's going to be really shoited
by how this race is going to pan out. They're
going to ride him chilly and see how many pieces
that they can pick up. And he's obviously got form
at this meeting. Last year he ran really well in
the Commonwealth Cup and he's improved since then as he's
(21:14):
gone up in trip. His best performance was out in
Australia where he won over seven and a half furlong,
So I'd be pretty hopeful that he'll stay the mile
and just think he looks an interesting horse where for
various rooms that I'm not convinced about them. At the
head of the market, Broussellian he probably is just about
the one to be, but just as that form went on,
(21:36):
obviously he missed the rest of the season after the
Saint James's Palace and just by the end of the year.
I'm not sure that being a next superior to Henry
Longfellow is a great deal to shout home about. And yes,
obviously he was value for extra on the day. I
get that, But maybe those three year old milers last
year aren't any great shakes and lake Forest, as a
relative new kid on the block, could just put it
(21:58):
up to them.
Speaker 5 (21:59):
Maybe how about this Carl Speckler as an absolute classic
symbol of Royal Ascot internationalism. What's trained by the top
turf trainer in America now trained by the top trainer
in Australia. Kieran mar has been bought by leading Chinese
owner for you long investments, and he's going to be
(22:19):
ridden by a Kiwi in one of Britain's biggest mile races.
So he brings a lot of color to this. I'm
not sure whether he'll adapt to the straight mile. But
he's his American form David and his time form rating
puts him in the mix of the big price, isn't it.
Speaker 6 (22:33):
Yeah, he's a Grade one winner out in America, isn't he.
He didn't really do himself justice in the Breeders Cup
Mile when we saw him, but I think he was
very much towards ahead of the best in that day.
Speaker 9 (22:44):
Was he only like a three to one chance or so?
Speaker 6 (22:46):
So Yeah, in terms of the form that he brings
to the table, he's not out of place in terms
of being a group one mile. But like you say,
it's just a very difficult task for them to come
and adapt. And was it there's something Kingdom the Kentucky
Derby when he came king. Yeah he didn't manage, did he.
(23:06):
But obviously Tepping she was able to come across it
and do it, and she's obviously had an impact over
on the European breeding as a result. But yeah, I'm
glad he's coming, but I'd be surprised if he's in
the winner's enclosure.
Speaker 5 (23:20):
One for the Caddyshack fans, if you remember that film
Else Blackler.
Speaker 2 (23:24):
Great film that's on the belting film Your Golf comedy
series on Apple TV as well. I believe it's just
been large. There you go, top topic. I've not paid
Bipple TV.
Speaker 3 (23:32):
It's on that golf theme.
Speaker 1 (23:33):
The Tyler Weaver, Jason's boy T's off at seven thirty
one tonight in the US open love to wish him?
Speaker 2 (23:39):
Well, Oh yeah, great to say, isn't it.
Speaker 5 (23:42):
Jason. Jason's used to writing riding in some of the
biggest races in the world, but he's never been more
nervous at any sport and event than watching his lad
on the first teav.
Speaker 1 (23:52):
Yeah teeing it up seven thirty one and his brother
Max on the bag. Honestly, it's such a good story.
He's so proud of his boy. Jason would never say it,
and he tried to change the subject every time we
mentioned at an episode last weekend, but he's just brimming
with pride.
Speaker 3 (24:05):
It's lovely.
Speaker 2 (24:07):
Better look to the Weavers over their fingers crossed, JC,
Let's talk about the King Child to third, talk about
the Insassle flavor as film and wind know does it
as Scott did it last year?
Speaker 4 (24:16):
Any chance of a repeat? How do you say it?
Speaker 5 (24:18):
Yeah, there is, there is a solid chance of repeat.
It's odd to think that she's zero for seven in
group ones in OZ. But it's a shallow we pond here.
And she did well to win last year because from
the seventeen box you had to Murphy was very cute
when he sends the pace wasn't holding up in a
small group on the near side. He smuggled his way
(24:38):
over and got with the right pace.
Speaker 3 (24:41):
Of late.
Speaker 5 (24:42):
She won a group three, and she was seventh in
a group one in April in OZ. And she's probably
I think she's probably still the same Philly, isn't she,
Which puts her in with a pretty solid chance. And
I saw a line on the EIGHTR website. I think
that her trainer, Henry Wire is looking for what he
calls the added one percent. He's going to put blin
honor next time. So if you like asked for her,
(25:03):
then regional and believing tie in very closely. One way
or another. You think last year's race is gonna it's
going to be a significant piece of the puzzle, isn't it.
Speaker 9 (25:13):
It should Sorry, just the different preps.
Speaker 6 (25:17):
When she came last year, they took the trial in
Temple and she ran there like she needed it. So
it's just a bit of a concern for me is
that they've come here straight away and they're going to
try and hit the gates running rather than have that
trial under the belt.
Speaker 9 (25:33):
So just that'd be a little bit of a worry
to me.
Speaker 5 (25:35):
For the other dads. Have I got this and there's
all sorts of angles. I think I've got a horse
at the big, big price you will run well.
Speaker 2 (25:41):
Here.
Speaker 5 (25:41):
You all know him American Affair, the Jim Goldie horse
hold up horse with a real good turn of foot,
who he bolted up from an unpromising position at York.
It was only a handicap and it was only from
ninety eight. But I can forgive his temple run. He
was keen, he got squeezed around, saw too much day light.
I think he might be a horse who will be
(26:03):
very very well suited by the demands of this race,
and at a big, big price. Don't sleep on him,
Jim Goldiot roll Ascot. That would be a good story.
Speaker 4 (26:12):
Wonderful story of tremendous splinter coming through the hand points.
Speaker 5 (26:17):
Each way around here. Please state your case as we
go along.
Speaker 1 (26:25):
I think that I think Night Raider will trade short
in this race. He is so fast I just fear
he might be more of a nun thought port than
an ascot of horse. I just fear he'll lead and
then beyond fumes up that hill with Aspora and and
American affair coming. I mean, I think I think he'll
he'll he'll be very very quick in the in the
(26:47):
King Charles.
Speaker 3 (26:47):
But can he hang on? I'm not so sure.
Speaker 1 (26:49):
I think I think Aspora might might come and get him.
Speaker 2 (26:53):
Believe that's even Group Saturday.
Speaker 1 (26:57):
I'd love her to run on Saturday Saturday the races,
isn't you. I just think she's just at that crucial
moment she'll just get found out again.
Speaker 5 (27:06):
Over five.
Speaker 1 (27:07):
I love her to bits and I'd love her to
win that group one in this country. But I've always
thought it would be over six.
Speaker 4 (27:16):
Yeah cautious, Yeah, yeah, David. How do see the King Charles?
Have ever got the NLS into it?
Speaker 6 (27:23):
There's a couple that I thought might run well, Flora Bermuda.
I think she will pitch up here, you know, because
she's recently been bought, hasn't she by Wathnan And they've
got kind of blue in the q E two Jubilee.
But they've also bought the favorite there. Haven't they love that,
so you'd be very surprised if they fired three bullets
in that and left this one without having a go.
(27:46):
So I think she'll turn up here, and the way
that her form's gone, I just think she's an improving filly.
I don't think it's necessarily that she's improved over six
furlongs as such, So I mean she bombed through the
Duke of York. She traded at one point three and
running and maybe just needed it. She's really weak in
the betting that day, so I think she's run well.
But I also noticed that rum Star was trading at
(28:09):
thirty threes for this, and obviously he's a course in
distance winner, was very impressive when he won at Newmarket
on his reappearance, and I think he went off at
just eleven to four for the Temple, disappointed there, but
he's obviously not become a bad horse overnight, and just
some of the horses that are tied in that ran
(28:30):
in the Temple that they're a fair bit shorter in
the betting than what he is. And if he does
turn up here for Johnny Portman, I could see him
bats him back in thirty three to one he's got
a bit more of a squeak than that, I'd suggest, David.
Speaker 5 (28:41):
He did write about Flora. She's twenty to one as well.
She's rated one twelve, but she's on the up grade.
She gets the Phillies allowance, goes well at Ascot, she's
going to be more like a ten to one chance
when they jump.
Speaker 6 (28:53):
I think, yeah, we should just pointing out and in fact,
looking at it, it seems like night Raider has been
bought by Whatton as well. James Doyle is chopped up
on that. So we'll ask to see if she does
definitely go. You wouldn't want to be playing anti post,
so yeah, we'll see.
Speaker 5 (29:14):
I think I think Flora will go Tuesday now. I
don't think they'd have declared a five days if Saturday
was a plan. Either way, I agree with you of you.
I think she's a live one.
Speaker 4 (29:24):
Andrew Balding said in last got stable have clicked on
the long link.
Speaker 5 (29:28):
He was still they've got multiple possibilities.
Speaker 4 (29:32):
Well then boys, then boys, they've got loads to go.
Speaker 2 (29:35):
Billy a bit like there's lot speculation really they're going
to let the Irish sprinters next year have a race
against oil procession what jo rather going into the good ones.
It's five to six each of two cabbage three with
Paddy power. But obviously, Bill, we have got the no
brain sprinter who you're opening all your hopes on. At
the back end of last year he was going to
be the savy for the Irish sprinting. See, is there
(29:56):
any chance the impart is going to come to the
party on Tuesday?
Speaker 7 (30:00):
Not if he turns up in the same form he
was in at the Corra a couple of weeks ago already,
because that was a pretty inauspicious Let's say, started his
career in the Northern Hemisphere and he ran in what
I didn't think was a particularly strong Greenland's and heyah
he finished last Yek got badly hampered, but he was
well beaten at the time and he got hampered, so
it was it wasn't the start.
Speaker 8 (30:19):
That we're looking for. But at the same time, Aiden
then told us after the.
Speaker 7 (30:22):
Race that he basically hadn't been training him and that
he you know, he'd barely been out of a half
speed at home. So I'm sure they've got plenty of
work into him both based on what he what he
showed at the Corral. They need to have done because
that was that wasn't a good start of the season.
No doubt he'll progress already, but you couldn't back him
on the on the strength of that performance.
Speaker 5 (30:39):
Anyway, Saturday looks the better bet. Get some extra gallops
in to finally get him working.
Speaker 2 (30:46):
We've still got time, Billy.
Speaker 4 (30:48):
Let's talk. We mentioned upon the shuffling of the packs.
Speaker 2 (30:50):
Nayden touched upon it the weekend, how Kip moving everything
else moved up a peg in that division and that
Los Angeles is now the boss, according to Aiden Billy
among the middle horses about it, he's the goat man
gets first pick. Prince of Wales Estakes on Wednesday is
where he's bound his favorite does it win, Billy match.
Speaker 7 (31:09):
He is vulnerable here already, and I'll tell you why.
I look, I've always thought he was more than a
mile and a half horse than a mile and a
quarter half. That they seem to be kind of manufactured
him into a mild quarter horse, if.
Speaker 8 (31:19):
If you know what I mean.
Speaker 7 (31:20):
Now, he has done nothing wrong, and he's he's very tough,
and he's very genuine and he'd be hard to pass.
But if you look at his win the last day
at the Kurra the Tarasall's Gold Cup, it's a mile
and a quarter and a half of furlong, whereas here
at Ascott, you're it's actually less than a mile and
a quarter. It's a little bit less than a mile
and a quarter here the Prince of Wales, it's a
(31:41):
slightly different track. Okay, Ascot is stiff, But at the
same time, I think he's going to be vulnerable here.
And you know he he won the Tarasall's Gold Cup,
but not by much and he would be reopposed by
a Matt White Birch who was.
Speaker 8 (31:54):
Very unlucky in the run.
Speaker 7 (31:55):
In running that day, I'm not saying he definitely have won,
but he'd have finished right up on top of them.
Speaker 8 (32:00):
And you've got the.
Speaker 7 (32:00):
Legs of Tamfana possibly Economics Calipana. This looks like a
really really strong race. I think he's vulnerable here are.
He'll run his race, he'll go very close, he'll be
hard to pass. But I think if he's going to
get beaten, and mind the quarter of this is probably
the least to get beaten.
Speaker 4 (32:13):
In At Chamberlin, Prince Well's this, how do you say it?
Speaker 3 (32:18):
I think that field.
Speaker 1 (32:19):
You talk about Billy's going to slightly fall apart for
this race. Actually, economics doesn't go Panna's going to go Hardwick.
I'd be surprised without weather forecast if we see al mccam.
Speaker 2 (32:30):
At the moment he's not being confirmed with ten minutes
to go.
Speaker 3 (32:34):
Really yeah, we could have breaking news the songs he.
Speaker 4 (32:38):
Has been supplemented, but I don't know what's been supplemented.
Speaker 1 (32:40):
The weather that's set their Okay, the supplement the horse
will be interesting because at the minute it looks like
it's going to be a very small select field, and
it looks like it might be head to head in
a rematch from that race, where I imagine Jim Crowley
might like another go on an malt. But then again,
Los Angeles is so tough. He will take a step forward.
Speaker 3 (32:56):
I'm with you, Billy.
Speaker 1 (32:56):
I think ten furlongs and asking you'd like to think
and would have too much speed for him, But.
Speaker 3 (33:01):
It wouldn't be It wouldn't be.
Speaker 1 (33:02):
A confidence one order because you just know what these
Vali diabases. Los Angeles will take a step forward as well,
and he'll say catching if you can, and maybe Crowley'll
leave it a little bit later. It could be it
could be a small but select field, but a good
race all the same.
Speaker 8 (33:15):
She Silfway perch as well.
Speaker 7 (33:17):
You know, it'll be interesting to see if Colin keen
roids and I don't know if there's a if there's
going to be a jud mandarson the race, but I'm
sure Coldin will be keen to keep the riding him
would be good.
Speaker 5 (33:25):
Keep an eye, David, find out the supplementary entry if
you can.
Speaker 2 (33:28):
That's honest.
Speaker 4 (33:29):
My maths is.
Speaker 3 (33:32):
Because I think I think Andrews said Calparna was going
to go hard with rather than she. She's not in there.
Speaker 2 (33:36):
She no, she's not, no, not at the minute? Tell
you what is in GC? Continuous is in for Aiden? Well?
Clearly is the gold to man for the helping answer.
We clearly know what they're going to do for Los Angeles,
very straightforward.
Speaker 5 (33:47):
It's one continuous from the ledger. I thought he was
going to be a proper mile and a half group
one fourth and he's now reduced to the pacemaking role.
And he missed the break when he was invented in
the tax or. I do you want to knock Los Angeles?
Whenever I look at Los Angeles. I always think he's
his real role, big black, raw boned horse. I always
(34:08):
think he'd be ideally suited by having a plume on
his head and leading the carriage parade at an East
End gangster's funeral. He just looked at that type of
you know, quite scary looking horse and it's not elegant.
But he does find loads, he finds absolute tons off
the bridle. But I'm I'm with Billy's line of argument here.
(34:32):
It's not a short strain at Ascott, it's over two furlongs.
But you generally to win this race you have to
show genuine acceleration and I'm not sure he's got it.
You know, I think the likes of Ann Matt white Birch,
maybe he always say Colin Kean keeps it simple. He
(34:52):
didn't keep it particularly simple. And the task gold Coup
he went inside and it was the wrong way to go.
A map of stars the French House, who I have
a lot of time for. I think he. I think
he's progressing really really strongly, and be very surprised if
he's not a one twenty plus uce. So of course
Los Angeles is super consistent. But and I'm not going
to hold his Champion Stakes defeat against him well behind
(35:14):
and Martin company, but that was only thirteen days after
a very hard race in the arc. I'm just not
sure that a little short of two thousand meters fastest
round as Scott. I'm not sure that even you know,
continuous trying to drag the speed out of the finishes
will be ideal. So a bit tentative for here, but
I think a Martin map of stars might be the
(35:36):
way to go.
Speaker 2 (35:38):
Did change?
Speaker 9 (35:38):
You have a strong feel on the base, not a
strong view.
Speaker 6 (35:42):
It does come down to watching that Tassel's Gold Cup
and just thinking that maybe and Mark with a run
under his belt, could reverse the form really pretty much
for the reasons that have been outlined. But against it
wouldn't be in any way of a surprise if Los
Angeles did grind it out. But he's one of those horses,
given what price is going to be in the vulnerabilities
(36:05):
that he has, I don't mind trying to get him
beat and I'd probably be leaning towards Ann Marked at
this stage.
Speaker 5 (36:11):
He's become a big horse for Ballydoyle next week, of course,
because it's sort of crept under the radar that there
are three aces in terms of shortest priced runners in
the anti Polse market. Lake Victoria retired, Kyprios and Albert
Einstein have all met with setbacks that ruled them out
of the meeting. So they're they're traveling with a very
(36:32):
strong contingent, but not the contingent they were hoping for.
Speaker 2 (36:35):
In the Income and Billy, it's Illinois who steps into
the Kiprios shoes in that Goald copy to Sharp fives
favorite to keep the trophy at Ballydoyle. How do you
see it?
Speaker 7 (36:46):
Look, you can certainly see the keys from already. I mean,
he was very good last year. This is probably the
natural progression forum. And if Kyprios hadn't been around, we'd
have been saying that, you know, Illinois.
Speaker 3 (36:55):
Was the.
Speaker 7 (36:57):
Well the pretenders of the throne anyway, you know, But
would I want to take a really sharp price about
him trying this trip for the first time, I'm not sure.
Speaker 8 (37:05):
Two and a half minds is a completely different animal
to the mile and.
Speaker 7 (37:07):
Six he's been running over and he's in against some
pretty you know, hard knocking stairs, the likes of Charlom
and the las of Sweet William, who we know have
been there before. They can They've been there and done
it if you like. In I have massive respect for him,
but first time at the trip, I just be a
little bit concerned. I think he's plenty short enough of
(37:28):
the betting for my liking.
Speaker 8 (37:29):
Anyway, Really did.
Speaker 4 (37:31):
What's that rut you think the skull Cup is?
Speaker 6 (37:35):
It looks a pretty good one. I mean it obviously
doesn't have kit Prios, so it doesn't have the outstanding host,
but in terms of the kind of staying test that
we would hope for everything else is pretty much there
isn't he You know, We've even got the French horse
coming across Candelari, who adds a fair bit of intrigue
and similar question marks to him with regards the trip
(37:56):
as what there is to Illinois, but he does bring
a little touch of class to it, so which you know,
we know the standard that Trolloman and the sweet Williams
of this world sets, and they are vulnerable to something
taking a big step forward, and I think that's the
thing to consider with a horse like Illinois. Yes, he's
only rated one hundred and twenty one now, but I'm
(38:18):
bruge oil. He was only rated one nineteen going into
the Coronation Cup, and he's one twenty eight now, so
that's how quickly these things can change. So I'm sort
of seeing this in a similar way as to what
I would be the Prince of Wales stakes, in that
it wouldn't surprise me at all if Illinois goes and
(38:39):
wins this, but at the prices, I don't mind taking
him on, and I would probably play it safe with Troloman,
who has done more than enough to win a typical
Gold Cup. In the absence of a horse like kit Prios, yeah.
Speaker 5 (38:52):
I agree with that, but I think Illinois is highly
likely to stay and I think he and Troloman, you know,
could become clear of this lot. He's by Galileo, he's
half brother to Dandream, who broke the track record. I
think in the King George, we know he stays a
mile and a seven, and at seven he won that
big race at Longshaw last autumn. I just think he
(39:16):
gives generously and he just keeps galloping. So I get
it completely. And in the absence of Kiprios, you couldn't
have too many better deputies than Illinois for mine.
Speaker 1 (39:26):
Here's one for a poll for you, GC, who's bigger
and heavier Los Angeles or Illinois, because I know Pat
at Linfield told us Illinois. I mean he's a monster.
He's like five seven five kg or something really wonderful.
Speaker 5 (39:40):
He's a pretty solid horse, by the way. I do
think he's I'd be surprised if he failed for lack
of stamina. But as David pointed out, and troller Man
ran Kiprios to a length last year, pretty much a
peak form Kyprios, clear of Sweet William and company, and
he hasn't gone backwards based on sand. So if you
(40:01):
look down the card, I think Trollaman's probably a better
horse than sent William Yashin beat Coltrane that didn't look
a strong Cigaro True Shan. If he finally runs in
a Gold Cup, do you know he's nine True Shan
and he's never running a Gold Cup. He's missed at
least three. I think through through ground and it could
be the same again, So I don't think it's that
deeper race without Kidprios and Candelari that that's the one.
(40:24):
He was very impressive last time, but his trainer has
long insisted that he must have good ground, and the
weather forecast a Zakurra it might be good to firm
by thirsty.
Speaker 2 (40:35):
And is it a gold cup that xacs you? You've
lost your start of attraction five TV Uh.
Speaker 3 (40:39):
Does it excite me?
Speaker 2 (40:41):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (40:41):
A little bit, little bit.
Speaker 1 (40:42):
Yeah, Kiprios would have been the public course and it's
a real shame were a hero he was. It's such
a specialist event though already, isn't it not. That's why
they run up the sequences because not many horses stayed
two and a half. And it's a guess, isn't it.
If he stays two and a half, who probably wins?
I don't think the bar is that human marbles. Williams
very admirable. But if he stays two and half.
Speaker 3 (41:04):
He'll he'll win, I think. But whether he will or not,
I don't know.
Speaker 5 (41:10):
That's a similar similar profile to Strativarius, doesn't he? By
Galileo and a Queen's Bars winner?
Speaker 2 (41:19):
M there you go? Really I put it on a pole?
Has he got a similar profile?
Speaker 8 (41:26):
Well?
Speaker 2 (41:27):
He was it for a pole. Let's look at the
head Friday and obviously we're getting thinner and thin with
running plans, et cetera.
Speaker 4 (41:32):
As a week goes on.
Speaker 3 (41:33):
We know waspplemented for the Prince of Wales.
Speaker 2 (41:35):
Yet you don't find you don't find out twelve thirty
and I'm fair with it's my Matt, and I'm counting
what long. I've just done it again and I can
still see a She says as ninding that I'll double
check while we're doing this, David, the combination stakes. We've
got a French Philly at the head of the market.
We've got Phala Kaya and the Chapelheim Philly potentially being
suplemented in again. So probably not the strongest with Lake
(41:56):
victorva out. Do you have any views DJ on this
combination stakes?
Speaker 6 (41:59):
It looks like it's falling apart, doesn't it for Aregana,
Like you say, desert Flowers not going to pitch up late.
Victoria's going she's perfect, is going to go for the
Pruda Diana, isn't she? So it might be that it's,
you know, we're certainly not going to get the English,
Irish and French clash that we had that we're going
to get in the Saint James's Palace, are we? And
(42:20):
if that's the case, it looks like she might have
Phillies from the second division almost to beat, but Kontiki
is an interesting one who I think is going to
be supplemented. She obviously represents the Saffron Beach same trainer
sorry as Saffron Beach, who won a Group three, sorry
a Group one as a three year old, So it's
interesting that they are pitching her in at this level
(42:42):
in a race that bars Aragana. It's not going to
look very strong. So yeah, it's it's going to be interesting,
but I don't think it's going to be a strong coronation.
Speaker 4 (42:52):
Now does anybody else have strong views on the combination?
Speaker 5 (42:54):
I think Exactly is a really underrated filly here Bye
frank all from nine and she's rated one to eleven.
But she is very professional, dead consistent, and I think
she might be capable of a bit better. Yet she
was beaten by Zara Gana in the French one thousand,
but she was squeezed close home. It would have already
(43:15):
been a length less than a length maybe had she
got a completely clear run. And in the absence of desert,
absence of Lake Victoria, I think she'd be very very
hard to keep out of the money. And I was
really surprised with the ride the flight was given in
the Irish Guineas it was an absolute sit sprint, which
is the opposite of what she wants, so she's ridden
(43:37):
more prominently. Her second in the English Guineas would make
her have interested a big price. But Zara Gana is
another of these French raiders who could be very good
on fast ground, but she has it to prove on
that surface.
Speaker 2 (43:49):
We might well be coming to another later on as well.
Let's talk quickly about the Comwealth cop. I really enjoy
shadow of like going sprinting at Chamberlain and after thought,
do you watch that?
Speaker 4 (44:00):
Give us you think, yeah, it was a couple as
people did.
Speaker 3 (44:03):
Yeah, yeah.
Speaker 1 (44:05):
And if he'd been on the other side, because all
the cameras at Newmarket, the track of cameras on the
near side, you don't see the far side, which meant
it was Barce alone, Wasn't it got away scott free
compared to.
Speaker 3 (44:17):
Poor old Kieran Schumach.
Speaker 1 (44:18):
And that was a dazzling turn of speed he showed
to hit the front that day, so yeah, I thought
he had.
Speaker 3 (44:23):
Cornwealth cup written all over him.
Speaker 1 (44:24):
I actually thought they'd go from James's Palace at Ruling
Court had gone to the Darby because They much rather
win that race, wouldn't they? Good olphings so and it
needs to be a good Cornwealth Cup this auder. The
Cornwealth Cup needs a good renewal. You know, it's Group
one status. He's under a bit of threat and this
year looks looks decent, doesn't it? With Baboosh and John
Quill and the IDEs of March. That day when he ran,
(44:47):
the vibe for him was so strong. I mean he
was backed off the boards as well. He was a
little bit disappointed, but don't don't give up on him.
He could he took be better than that eight of March,
I think. And Friday already we did our We did
our VT the other day for this year, and I
think it was a few of our favorite day of
the whole year last year, wasn't it? And just reliving
last years Friday was amazing with Colin Keene having that
(45:10):
winner for his dad and the old boy singing in
the winner's enclosure and then Harry Herbert singing after soprano,
and he had the Barons winning the last and Luke
dancing to mister Bright's side fairy Godmother remember that performance
in the first It was one of the great ascert
days last Friday, and I'm not sure this will be
quite as good, but it's even half as good.
Speaker 3 (45:27):
It'll be a belter.
Speaker 4 (45:30):
Is just upon that his depth to this Comewealth cut potentially.
Speaker 5 (45:33):
The champion two year old name and a champion two
year old who bolted up in the middle park won
the Dewhurst in adversity, an unusual tactical race, and it
looks like he's trained on really well because he ran
right up to his juvenile mark one twenty when just
going down in a three week gone for the Guineas,
so he's not going to be inconvenienced by six furlongs.
(45:56):
He ran eleven o four going into the dip, the
fastest for longer than any horse in the Guineas. I think,
so he sets the bar pretty high. But I do
like John Quill and I think he has done really
well for the move to from start to Boulding. He
was emphatic in the Green and beat a good horse
Rusher Bar and in the French two thousand Guineas, Billy
(46:18):
touched on the speed of that race. It was absolutely
set up by Henri Matissee's domestiques the pacemakers, and he
was much closer to a frantic pace, and he kept
coming back for more all the way to the line.
So I'm very happy to believe that John quill Is
is a danger to every horse in this race. I
thought he ran a notable race in France last time.
Speaker 2 (46:41):
Billy two big Irish players, Baboosh and potentially I match.
How do you see their chances?
Speaker 7 (46:47):
I think it's going to be It could be the
first big decision Colin Keen has to make here does
he ride Baboush or does he ride Jonquin? Though he'd
be stunned if he'd got off Baboush. To be honest,
he knows really well. You wont a Phoenix stakes on
her last year and she looked back to her best
met I think it was Nace last time she was.
Speaker 8 (47:03):
She was impressive. You know, she beat Whistler Jacket. She'd
beaten him in the Phoenix. Last year she beat him.
She put him in his place in the lacking last
time at Nace. She's a Philly that I'm mad about.
Speaker 7 (47:12):
To be honest, I think Jorlins has described her more
than once as a push button Philly. She just seems
very straightforward and she's very quick. I could really see
her running well. I like her a lot IDEs of
March like like Ed.
Speaker 8 (47:24):
Liked him a lot. Last year.
Speaker 7 (47:25):
He progressed well through the through the ranks. I thought
he ran a perfectly fine race at Newbury. He needs
to step up again. There's no that that's you know,
there's not to saying he won't, but he does need
to improve a bit to trouble the real ones in
this race. And you'd have to say Shadow of Light
is very much the herse to beat, you know, really
good to her old Last year he ran a cracker
in the in the two thousand guineas, so his farm
(47:46):
is really strong. He's the one to beat. But I
do think Babus will put it up to.
Speaker 5 (47:51):
Really that relationship between Gee Lions and Colin Keen is
Cloper Bottomed just supported him all the way. The relationship
with Cool slightly. If Colin Keen chooses Junk will ahead
of Baboosh, I suspect on.
Speaker 8 (48:06):
It definitely will. Yeah.
Speaker 5 (48:08):
Oh, by the way, I'm disappointed nobody's thrown any points
in zero point five points each way Dave nine to
one Best Dodgs guaranteed eight places. Have you seen the
way these tipsters do it now they put all this
thing on the bottom. Best dodge guarantee six places when available,
take no less than this zero point five points each way,
(48:28):
John quil Common, World Cup.
Speaker 3 (48:30):
I need your health.
Speaker 1 (48:31):
I might throw some points on Friday, lady, but I
need your help. I like that Hugo Palmer Philly in
the Albany Fitzella is it? But Richard farr Hey, one
thing we learned to depisom is Richard farre He has
got some really well handicapped horses. And he's got horse
in the holy Rood whatever it's called the Palace of
Holyrood House and I can't remember what its name is.
Speaker 3 (48:52):
Strong warrior, A strong Warrior, could well be, could well be.
Speaker 2 (48:57):
He's in at York on Saturday. I'm going to check
as if he's declared. I mean they could easily on both.
They thought he might be a comm World Cup horse
at the start of the year. And we'll please.
Speaker 4 (49:06):
It's been a bad spring for Richard characteristically.
Speaker 3 (49:09):
Which means they're well handicapped.
Speaker 2 (49:10):
Yeah. Yeah, the old horses are the two you just
haven't been having four. I mean, I can't believe. But
there's not.
Speaker 3 (49:16):
My points for my points.
Speaker 1 (49:17):
Sporting Life is going to be absolutely crucial because you'll
get the exclusive on where Reaching High is going on Tuesday,
the Royal Horse and William Mallins.
Speaker 2 (49:25):
And we will get that. Yeah, we'll get that after
this and we'll.
Speaker 3 (49:28):
Get and we'll get the far good things in the handicaps.
Speaker 2 (49:33):
Leave that to me.
Speaker 4 (49:33):
I'd leave that to me. But is a Hugo palmer
House going in as a point selection?
Speaker 6 (49:38):
Tell her?
Speaker 1 (49:39):
Yeah, we can stick that in. That's one of the
bets of the week. Yeah, already, which Grace in the Albany, Yeah.
Speaker 4 (49:46):
Okay, that's that is in Saturday.
Speaker 2 (49:50):
We're going to move on to It's the I always
get this the Queens for the second Jubilee States now
the sixth fell on Group one DJ we have a
favorite for that ins that ahead of an issue?
Speaker 4 (50:02):
I mean at what your early thoughts on the one contest?
Speaker 6 (50:07):
Yeah, as that is the one that is set in
the standards on the time form racings not particularly well
known over here because obviously he's French trained and some
of his best efforts have come either over here or
in Australia. He was runner up to Lake Forest out
over seven and a half last November. But it's coming
(50:29):
back in trip that I think has potentially the making
of him. He won the Maurice de Gist over six
and a half, but certainly didn't look short of pace
when he won just a listed race at schan Te
last time over the Bear six. And yeah, obviously he's
been bought privately since by the Wathnan team. And when
(50:49):
you think how well the horses that they bought specifically
for Royal Ascot last year, how well they said, it
looks interesting that they've had the check book out again
and this horse we've we've known for a while that
the British horses don't set a huge, great standard in
the sprints, and they tended to beat beat each other
the last last year. So yeah, he looks a deserve
(51:11):
favorite coming at that different route I think.
Speaker 4 (51:14):
And the other thoughts on Saturday charts far I got, Well.
Speaker 1 (51:16):
That could be huge questions, I reckon if you gave
Nick Smith one wish for the week, it would be
this Japanese horse in the in the whatever it's called
Red Queen Elizabeth IID Jubilee States. Yeah, so too Red,
because those have seen him work in new markets, is
that absolute rocket and.
Speaker 3 (51:33):
Japan have never had a winner there.
Speaker 5 (51:35):
I don't think they think so.
Speaker 3 (51:37):
He's a proper Group one horse that'd behind the Wishonist.
Speaker 5 (51:40):
He's been in against the fantastic sprinter tying rising twice
in Hong Kong, gorgeous looking horse as well, and I
assumed John Morrera will be here to ride him, so
he has lots of that race. I I know an
you're sharing is a very good horse. I know he
is because he's shown it to me twice Commonwealth Cup
and at your Duke of York Steaks. But carry back
(52:03):
it up again. Last year he was sort of underwhelming
in the July Cup after he won at rowal Ascot
and poor at Haydock, and he's had a window operation,
so I'm a little a little reserved about him. Lazat
looks every bit as good as David outlined there. I
would mention a horse who's going to be a wild price,
and I'm not sure whether I can get the points
(52:27):
Michael Bodiphilly called great Generation. She's not shown herself to
be a Group one horse as yet, but she does
have a turn of foot off a strong pace, which
she showed at Linfield a couple of weeks ago when
she beat Jabbara and Spiritual, who've both polished that form since.
So if you're looking for a thirty three to one
chance who might run into the top six six places
(52:50):
as you know Dave here and there, poor even she
might be one, but really good race for Saturday. And
then we have the wokinghom as well, with all sorts
of potential plots.
Speaker 4 (53:01):
What is it wonderful?
Speaker 2 (53:02):
Met is it back? I'm gonna go around for another
horse that you're looking for to my last got week,
but I'm going to throw two horses to you first
that other people have mentioned to me because Graham North
is very sweet on bussels. I think from the AID
yeah two you old team, can you give us ANOPD
down on him? But what what's your thoughts on him?
Speaker 8 (53:18):
He has just won a maiden.
Speaker 7 (53:20):
Like a lot of the AID No Brian two ye
olds that are going to go to Ascot, he has
just won a maiden.
Speaker 8 (53:23):
He won nicely.
Speaker 7 (53:24):
I think when they when he won his maiden, there
was talk about him running in the Chessim. But I
have another O'Brien Harst that I think will win the Chesham.
I think if they run a horse called Italy in
the Chesham. Whatever beat team is going to win. It
was very impressed in him with the Corra all right
Leopards Own, I should say he.
Speaker 8 (53:40):
Looks really good.
Speaker 7 (53:41):
Yeah, it's the badly died juveniles are a little bit
up in the air now because obviously Albert Einstein was
the number one hope for the Coventry. He's not going
to go, so there's gonna be a little bit of
a re shuffle. I wouldn't be surprised if Charles Darwin,
who was supposed to go for the Norfolk, now steps
up the six forums and goes for the goes for
the the Coventry. So look, he's the he's the top
(54:04):
rated two year old on time from ratings as things standard,
but he's done it pretty much entirely on times. His
farm doesn't really back up, but he's run two very
fast times and two really good time figures, so he'd
be interesting. Yeah, it's hard to know what russells. The
Hersey beat the horse called Kansas another dad No brown
horse was stuffed at the weekend, so the farmer has
taken a bit of a knock. But like I said,
Aiden has he has seven race once race two ye
(54:27):
olds that will go to asker with big chances. I'll
throw another name as you called Geshdad, who I thought
might run the Windsor Castle.
Speaker 8 (54:34):
He might run on the Norfolk now, but he's very fast.
He's a half brother Devan Deep. I think he'll run
well as well and.
Speaker 2 (54:39):
Really a good journey said names his sauce and I
won't do it either. But a former jockey and I
worked on racing TV and whose dad is a leading
racing manager, has been going on and on and on
about the Liffy in the Royal Hunt Cup and it
says that's that's now well and truly out in the open.
I think Thomson Gal's put him up in antipolls price
wise as well. What can you tell me about the
(55:01):
named it? What hasn't said?
Speaker 8 (55:04):
He's one of these hards already that Aiden used to train.
He's now with Joseph. He is completely under the radar.
Speaker 7 (55:13):
He looked a good two year old and you know
one first time out of the two rold didn't run again.
Had a couple of runs last year. Now he's transferred
to Joseph. He ran the list of race at Nace.
Ran a nice race, you'd have to say, but he's
a complete or none stepping into a handicap. I'm not
sure what sort of a mark he's got. He's got
a time from rating him nineteen nine p. He's massively unexposed.
He could be a handicap plot, but you know it's
(55:35):
a it'll be a vastly different scenario because he's used
to running in small field conditions, racism, what have you,
and stepping into a massive walking him. Look, I don't
know if you haven't backed him already, you might have
missed the price. But I wouldn't be back him at
a short I put it that way.
Speaker 8 (55:50):
But look, fran Berry has probably stolen all the value anyway,
so you know best to look.
Speaker 2 (55:55):
To disgrace atlantics. Right, another whole thing looking for to
wrap up for the weak. I'll go with you for
something else on your Royal Ascot later.
Speaker 6 (56:03):
Yeah, there's a horse I've been waiting for Royal Ascot
and I'm hoping he's going to pitch up in the
Buckingham Palace. And you might be a better place source
to expand further because he's Richard far he trained, and
it's Ramazan and he's down to a bha mark of
ninety six. Now you just look at some of his
form last year. He's beaten three quarter of a length
(56:24):
in the Great Saint Wilfred off one hundred and three,
beaten a neck in last year's Victoria Cup off one
hundred and five, and a neck in the air Gold
Cup the year before off one hundred and one. So
a BHA mark of ninety six. Now, I think it
looks really interesting. And we've outlined earlier how some of
richards haven't really fired in the early part of the season,
(56:46):
but Epsom showed that they might be turning a corner.
Look out for the head gear going back on as well.
Just think everything is in place for Ramazan to run
a real big race from a very lenient mark nowadays
in the Bookingham Palace, right, So.
Speaker 2 (57:00):
Thanks djgcy something else on your rider quick guard at
that Brussels Great North fancas And I saw him at
the curR a few weeks ago on he man his debut.
Speaker 5 (57:10):
He was in a different league physically to all his rivals,
and he might be really good. So let's look forward
to him a couple of quick lines on the Hunt
Cup and walking and that my cloud might just be
a plot on the Hunt Cup. Not many horses who
can run off ninety five have a time form rating
of one hundred and nine p What a difference. That
(57:32):
horse could be thrown in with a mallet, but at
a massive price, and he has slightly snaky tendencies when
he hits the front. This horse, all of a show
for George Bowie, just pipped in the Lincoln beating the nose.
I think he's been put on a Layoway since and
he might be well suited by the demands of the
Hunt Cup. The walking another one in the same color
(57:53):
as more Thunder, who's won two big handicaps at Newmarket
and look tailor made for Ascott but at a big,
big price. Horse pall completely random Charlton horse who was
impressive at Leicester two starts ago form, worked out a
treat and he got stuck in the steadily run race
behind the ram Ram at Newberry Unlocking's day. I'm sure
he's better than that, but no, it's a It's the
(58:15):
best we've got, isn't it. Royal Ascot thirty five races eight,
Group ones, eight, Group two's twelve incredibly difficult handicaps, so
it's going to be a big week one way or another.
Speaker 4 (58:28):
I cannot wait to add one more for you for vilas.
Speaker 3 (58:31):
You can get the money on that.
Speaker 1 (58:33):
I do know that it's going to be when the
Saints will be the first song on Tuesday on the
bandstand on it that is that isn't exclusive, that is
locked in. I can don't tell anyone, but that will
be the first tune on Tuesday. That royal runner William
Maullins be typical, isn't it. I mean that was an
amazing prep as well to.
Speaker 5 (58:53):
Call this horse.
Speaker 1 (58:54):
I know the horse you mean ex stout reaching high
Jerdy Town and he rode the horse and its prep
and I just don't the sporting life is going to
have to find out where he's going, either be the
Copple Horse or the Asket Stakes. Could be Voban all
over again. And yeah the far He horse in the
Hollywood House and Fitzeller in the Orbaning.
Speaker 3 (59:14):
But there's so many. I mean, it's system magic.
Speaker 5 (59:16):
It really is just a question ed this weekend, big
weekend at York, will you be doing anything for Peter
Est to be?
Speaker 3 (59:25):
Absolutely we will.
Speaker 2 (59:25):
I won't be.
Speaker 1 (59:26):
I won't be there laying myself out for asket me
memory Lane. I mean, the archive is just full of
great memories.
Speaker 5 (59:33):
So from one see pigeons.
Speaker 2 (59:36):
Yeah, so a lovely tribute on Racing TV Richard Fire
paid on spot And it's hard to sort of put
into was it what actually achieved when you look at
the horses he had and where he saw them.
Speaker 5 (59:49):
And there's a few things he achieved that people might
not be aware of. He told me a few tales
of many many moons ago of of horses really well
in big races that how shall we say, I'm not
really sure how to put it. Let's just say that.
Speaker 3 (01:00:10):
A lawyer's ready here.
Speaker 5 (01:00:11):
Yeah, one of the two horses excelled in big races
when they weren't suspected to be in that race a
few weeks previously. I can't put it any any clearer
than that.
Speaker 2 (01:00:21):
But what a fella incredible and a bit we're gonna
went with you on the horses, far yan Ascott, give it,
give us, give us some Nash, some Nash selections to
help on the wake.
Speaker 7 (01:00:31):
Well, it has already touched on Woody Mullens and Reaching High,
who will obviously garner a lot of attention. But I'm
looking through the Mullins entries for the week punner us.
If Paneras runs in the Copper Horse Handicap, I'm hoping
that's the race he runs him, and he's got a
handicap mark of ninety one.
Speaker 8 (01:00:47):
He's a trying for the winner.
Speaker 7 (01:00:48):
He ran it like ran really well behind the Lamb,
but it punches down if he gets enough ninety one
in the Copper Horse. I can't see what's going to
beat him. The trip is a slight concern, but you
know we've seen Willy do it before the all pen,
so he'll do for me already.
Speaker 4 (01:01:03):
William willing to be hate O'Brien at Ryle to train
at Ryle.
Speaker 2 (01:01:07):
Ascott could even get on the Raadar's sending his biggest
ever team to the meeting. So much look forward to
cannot wait for you to come down. Thanks to add
to GC to Billy and David, and I hope you
have an enjoyable and successful Rila's Cup too.
