Speaker 1 (00:23):
Good eating everybody, and welcome to another edition of the
Sports Exchange. The reason why I'm not so excitable about
the beginning of the show is because of what the
title said. The pressure must be taken seriously, So I'm
going to keep my tone level to where I think
it needs to be at the moment. I do want
to think George Ikorn earlier tonight as we launched Sports
Trap here on the network, great stuff. It's a show

(00:46):
that'll be a great compliment to the Sports Exchange, being
different for a hockey side, and more importantly, it will
also be a good lead in.

Speaker 2 (00:55):
To fire up. So sometimes I'd like to be upbeat.

Speaker 1 (00:58):
Sometimes you just have to sound like we're human, which
we are, and I want to just introduce a crew
real quick.

Speaker 2 (01:04):
We'll get rid to the agenda.

Speaker 1 (01:06):
Our goal here is to make sure that we are
off at ten twenty Eastern time. I know that the
Stanley Cup Finals is on, so a lot of people
that are watching us from that. I want to make
sure that every ray's time is also divided a little
bit if they want to watch hockey tonight. But that's
a welcome Taylor Phillips Pack, He's my guy that I
can put anywhere we want.

Speaker 2 (01:26):
And this guy moves all over the planet.

Speaker 3 (01:27):
And produbly person Taylor absolutely.

Speaker 2 (01:31):
Yes, yeah, you and that magnifying glass. All right.

Speaker 1 (01:33):
Candy Ebling, the jack of all trade broadcast for production,
you name it. Plead to have her back on a regular.

Speaker 2 (01:39):
On the show.

Speaker 4 (01:40):
Thanks, Scott grit glad to be here.

Speaker 1 (01:42):
And my cleanup here by the way, is willly Epning.
He always sits an out of the park when he's
on the show, so he's a really big part of
what we're doing to re establish the culture of the
sports have changed.

Speaker 2 (01:52):
Willy.

Speaker 1 (01:52):
I'm so proud that you are on Wednesday night with us.
I really truly am.

Speaker 5 (01:56):
Honored to be here with all of you guys.

Speaker 3 (01:58):
Appreciate it.

Speaker 2 (02:00):
Christner, we know what kind of an element you bring
to the show.

Speaker 6 (02:03):
I'm the utility guy, you know. I'm not as small
as how too big, but I mean I can do
kinds of things like that. I probably eight and I
can still hit homers.

Speaker 1 (02:11):
Ah boy, I'll take it all day long. And George Acorn,
I don't have a lot really I have to say
about you. You have any other forever.

Speaker 7 (02:18):
Thank you.

Speaker 2 (02:19):
Thanks all right, s let's.

Speaker 1 (02:21):
Take care of business, and we're going to talk about
a very important passing this week that happened in the
form of a tribute to John Brent Kess, who died
at the age of fifty four due to depression. He's
best known for his est inhows, one of the biggest
ones of sports science. You know what, only I'm going
to start off with you on this, my friend.

Speaker 2 (02:43):
Yeah, this is.

Speaker 5 (02:45):
Never an easy subject to discuss, especially when you hear
the words depression and suicide attached to it. My awesome
prayers go out to his family. I mean, it's I
can't I can't even imagine what that family is going through.

Speaker 6 (03:09):
You know.

Speaker 5 (03:09):
It's just a horrific situation all the way around. And
his shows, i mean were some of the dopest shows
on ESPN. But aside from that, I mean, you know,
he was a he was a husband. I'm sure he was.
He had to be somebody's son because he wasn't born
of himself, you know. And he's a friend to a

(03:33):
lot of people, I'm sure as well. It's just you
never ever ever really want to read about stuff like
this again when it comes to uh, depression and suicide
and and all those other terrible things that you know,
we have those demons that we whisper into our ears
sometimes and you know, at some point, you know, I

(03:56):
just my prayer is that one thing that will all
be able to do is to discuss anything, no matter
how gruesome or how insignificant that thing may be to
that person.

Speaker 3 (04:09):
If we can.

Speaker 5 (04:09):
Prevent things like this from happening, then I'm all for it, Jacob.

Speaker 6 (04:18):
It shows that we can't take anything as adults at
face value. He always looked like he had a big
smile on his face all the time, you know what
I mean, He had a big he had that career.
We've a lot sports science. It was an awesome show,
but you can't tell. And it's like, how many times

(04:38):
do we hear about teenagers doing the same thing? How
many times do we hear about this big smile on
the face. You don't see it coming, And it's over
and in truth by itself with all these years and
all I mean every time that I mean, you go
on the you go on the online, and then every
time there's a thing on suicide's, ESPN will put the

(05:00):
of suicide hotline. Every time, you would think every time
that we see these you'll see that Susie hotline under
the scrolls on a lot of these shows. You'd think
this would at least stop, that these people would have
the guds, But really you have to ask how many
people in his life day did they and then did
they relied on him? How many people wanted him to

(05:22):
be tough? You know, how many people wanted to be
you know, they are at all times straight, you know what?
You know what it reminds me of, truthfully, and this
is just a show, okay, it reminds me of the
we'll just say Roseanne Slash the Connors final episode before
she dies. The character and he's they're having a flood

(05:43):
and he's down there and he's I'm having I'm on
the edge of my fingertips keeping everything alive. I don't
know how that much I can go on and he's
finally admitting it, and of course they went on years,
but that's what a lot of I mean, this is
a man's man. And he was saying that, how many
men don't say that, right? And that's the that episode

(06:07):
really got because remember everybody knows Dan Fielding the character
that's a tough guy, that's a man's man, and it's
like and he finally they're having a flood. He knows
he has no flood insurance. Their house is about done,
their foundation will be screwed. They can't do anything. And
it's like and he has no money, and it's like
he's done everything. And that's and that happens to so

(06:28):
many men. And what is the story behind John Brink
is what he had to do? Was it a something
that just set him off? And it's finally the end?
I because I haven't seen him on things lately, so
was he out of work? I don't know what's going on.

Speaker 7 (06:44):
George, Well, yeah, it's very sad. Nos, It's incredibly sad.
He did try to commit suicide. It says back in
twenty twenty three. It happened around the time that he
was selling sports science to ESCN. And actually there's a

(07:07):
story and I'm not going to go into details, but
his dog actually helped save him from taking his life. Obviously,
these demons have been fighting inside of him and his head,
and unfortunately for several years, we only could pray and
hope that his family and his loved ones and his

(07:29):
followers can all somehow remember the good days and they
will you know that that he worked his butt off
and in some of these great shows such as the
Sports Science Show. But John obviously had issues with with
a number of things that but we've got to get better.
We have to as people, we have to as citizens,

(07:51):
we have to try to help people that do have
a need, whether it's suicidal or whether it's cutting their
scan or any number of different things that people do,
especially a lot of our youngsters do these days and
experimenting with those type of things. So my sympathy again

(08:12):
to all his followers, all his family and friends and
professional workers that worked with him over the years. It
wasn't just a one man operation obviously, and let's just
let's just try to help in any way we can
so it doesn't happen again to somebody we know personally,
even right, thank.

Speaker 2 (08:32):
You, Candy.

Speaker 4 (08:37):
Mental illness is just that, it's an illness. It's mental
health needs awareness. Things like this bring this to the forefront, unfortunately,
but maybe fortunately because we need to talk about this
more and we need to get this more out in

(08:58):
the open.

Speaker 3 (09:00):
It's this.

Speaker 4 (09:01):
For a long time, it was a stigma that we
couldn't talk about mental illness, and that's what was wrong.
With things, we hit it and it needs to come
to the forefront. We need to talk about it. We
need to help those that need help, and we need
to be able to recognize some of those some of
the little symptoms that you might see. And this, what

(09:22):
this tells us is that no one's a neme to this.
I mean no one. It can happen to any of us,
someone that has done I mean, he's six his shows
are six time Emmy Award winning shows. Like He's not

(09:43):
just anybody.

Speaker 6 (09:44):
So what this.

Speaker 4 (09:46):
Tells me is that we need more awareness. I'm glad
that I work for a company that recognizes mental illness
that has gone forth and said, you know what, We're
gonna give you free sessions for mental health because we
all need to recognize there are times that are tough

(10:11):
and we need to be able to get through them.
However that may be. No matter how strong you think
you are, you're not weak to say you need help.
And that's one of the stigmas that I think is
out there, is that men think they're strong or women
think they're strong and that they don't need help. That's wrong,
that's the wrong message. So I feel really bad for

(10:34):
his family because I honestly I can't imagine and rest
in peace. Your struggle is now done.

Speaker 2 (10:45):
Taylor.

Speaker 3 (10:48):
Yeah, it's a serious issue. Most men like me and
John Brinketts have had that have had that stuff. But
it's always important to talk to someone whenever you yielded
that down, and someone professionally and also also get life

(11:14):
skills as well. Sometimes it takes medication like esca telepram,
the one I have to get to get you feeling
better again. So it's but unfortunately it doesn't It doesn't
help every It doesn't help everyone, but thankfully helped me,

(11:38):
but just John John Braca is just sad to see
him go.

Speaker 2 (11:43):
I don't think I'm gonna add to this. Number one.

Speaker 1 (11:45):
The first time I had actually heard somebody committed suicide
was when Freddie Prinz died of a gunshot.

Speaker 2 (11:51):
Number one.

Speaker 1 (11:53):
Number two, there's a history of it in my family.
There is my step grandfather, Sidney Tacubs went out there
and took an overdose on pills. So when you have
family history, that doesn't help. Am I going to tell
you on a live show that it never.

Speaker 2 (12:09):
Entered my mind?

Speaker 1 (12:10):
You better believe it has you It really have Number
one depression and suicide has. In fact, I'm going to
admit something that I've never admitted to many people before,
but I think it's important that we understand it. When
I was in Arizona, I was in the.

Speaker 2 (12:28):
Hospital because I took too many sleeping pills.

Speaker 1 (12:31):
So I was in a tough mental relationship with my
ex wife. She's a nice girl, but there was so
much pressure on me to carry the financial side that
it throw me over the edge.

Speaker 2 (12:43):
But I survived.

Speaker 1 (12:45):
I had other thoughts of it later on, Yes, but
the thing that saved me was a great support system,
and that's what should be taken away from all of this.
One of the more recent episodes of that. So I
thank everybody in my support system for making sure what
happened the first attempt there was no second attempt because

(13:06):
I had enough people in my support system to help.
Andy's been a big part of a lot of King
family members in FRONTS. It's not easy for me to
admit something like this on the air, but it's something
like everybody's talking about.

Speaker 2 (13:17):
You have to do it. You have to bite your
tongue and do it. And I don't mind doing that.

Speaker 1 (13:23):
Because what we're here to do on sports Exchange or
any show is we need to take care of the good.

Speaker 2 (13:28):
And the bad and the ugly.

Speaker 1 (13:32):
I'm not one of those types of places we're going
to talk about every happy thing because on This is
Life people like now unfortunately, and I will have a
follow up on this later on. But Robin Williams of
More Than Meitty fell victim to this as well, but
I'm not going to elaborate on that tonight. I have
a heart felt story that I'm going to bring up

(13:53):
probably a next week's edition of The Sports Exchange, which
people are really going to like about Robin Williams. But
I only want to mention that so it can't happen.
And I'm just glad that all six of us are
on this show that we can address this subject and
be able to look at each other in the fay
say you know what. I love everybody on this show

(14:14):
and a lot of my close friends, but you five people,
without you, five people this show here, the Sports Exchange
really really really make me happy when we're able to
do something every Wednesday night that we look at each
other as family. It's what we are, we really are, Willie.
We go back a while, we do, and I've always
felt the strongest respect for you in Norway's to one

(14:36):
anybody that called me Scooter really seriously really not bad Jacob,
You're like a brother and me too, just like really,
George Eikorn, what am I going to say about you?
Except I've known you forever around George, Yeah, okay, you
think good lately. I haven't had to do Lee and
you know where you standing. Taylor to me, you're the
new guy at the why, but you've done and Umbili will.

Speaker 2 (14:58):
Part of your progress. So I'm proud of the group
of people.

Speaker 1 (15:01):
That are on this show tonight, and I just hope
that somebody will take something out of the show. I'm
sterres of what we're addressing because it was important for
me to lead off of John because it's the right
thing to do, and that's what we're here to do,
the right thing to do. But that said, let's go
on to something that happened in New York. But the

(15:22):
guy getting paid good money to lead and the New
York Dicks fire Tom Thibodeau, who won twenty four postseason games.
Next time to listen, Mike Woodson, but coach Tavi, don't
worry about it. They'll being paid thirty million dollars, not
the coach because of his extension. Not bad, and of
course I think part of the speculation will be that

(15:42):
he didn't use his bench enough, which wore out a
lot of players at forty sixtat I can see that
a little bit. But Willie, again, what are your thoughts
about Tom Thibodeau. He's the best thing to that in
New York. For a while, it had been relevant, and
all of a sudden he's not employed, but he's making money.

Speaker 5 (16:00):
You know, this is the third time this season that
this sort of thing has happened, when a coach takes
a franchise to the levels they've never seen before, or
it's been that long since that franchise has seen that.
So I can say I'm a little surprised by this.

(16:23):
But what I'm not surprised about is if the reasoning
that they say is the reason why it happened, then yeah,
at some point TIBs is gonna have to become untips
and be something else or in channel his somewhat other
coach self because he can't continue to do these things
in terms of running his starters into the ground, and

(16:47):
by the time they get to this playoff round or
any round in the playoffs, they don't have any energy.
And I know the Knicks had a lot of injuries
this year. I wasn't I wasn't that great of a
fan of them trading Julius and getting in Big Cat.

(17:09):
I think some of the ancillary pieces that they lost,
like Deep, Dante, Givincenzo and some others may have come
back to bite them a little bit, because those are
that those types of guys are energy guys off the bench,
and when you don't have a bench, or when you
play six seven people the way that Tibbs does, you
know you're gonna be biting your You're gonna be kicking

(17:30):
yourself in the rear should that happen. So thirty million
dollars to go away. But we've seen this before with Tibbs.
I mean when in Chicago, same exact thing. You know,
he runs the starters into the ground, and by the
time it's time to really punch the clock, they have
no they have no puncher's fight left in them.

Speaker 2 (17:49):
Yeah, there's lot of gas much, okay, Jacob.

Speaker 6 (17:53):
You know it's funny. I was hearing this from the people.
They were saying TIB's gonna put them off. But this
isn't the eighties. Eighties. I mean Casey Jones had eight
to ten rotation, pat Riley eight to ten rotation. Don
Nelson ate a ten rotation. I mean, over and over,
He'll be brown eight to ten all the time. I mean,

(18:15):
mind you, they played the things, but I mean they're
eight to ten pete. But some of the people off
the bench got ten minutes. I'm like, I don't know
what they're talking about with the eighties. But here's the
thing with Thibodeau. I said this that this is probably
going to happen. Everybody saw it on Facebook the May.
They blew a seventeen point lead two and a half
minutes at home. When you do that, your players aren't

(18:40):
focused on you. They're not listening to you, right, They're
not doing anything anymore. Personally, I love that he brought
up to the Eastern Conference finals, even though part of
me was like, part of me was so glad to
see the Knicks go down because the fans were attacking
people and act like morons after the playoff win. I
was glad to see it. But in the other case,

(19:01):
they gotta win sometime. But if they're good here's the
thing that I'm saying. I'm hearing things like Derrick Rose
is a possible. You have the coach and a couple
others and all that. I mean, here's the thing, Mike
Malone or a I'm just gonna I'm gonna say, many Waiams,

(19:22):
if you can get himself a break, you know, after
his breaks, you know, after his wife died and everything.
Anybody with a ring, anybody with a ring has to
take tips. I'm saying it has to take tips spot
anybody that is they are this close, they are this close.
Otherwise he might as well have kept tips, right, because

(19:44):
all you're asking for with some of the ideas of
on ESPN, because they want their hits, their clicks and
all that garbage. Right, all you're asking for is gonna
have twenty five wins after being this close to the finals,
and and it's like, and that's the big thing. You
just got to make the right decision. You've got to
get somebody with a ring that has a rain, that's

(20:05):
been experienced with it, and that otherwise he might as
well kept Thibodeaux.

Speaker 2 (20:12):
Enough.

Speaker 7 (20:12):
George, Yeah, I was very disappointed. I don't feel this
was justified at all, he has done a terrific job
in New York, as you guys mentioned, you know, leading
them into the Eastern Finals for the first time in moons.
And I do conceide that, Yes, his bench was not

(20:33):
deep enough. I do concede that. But the fact of
the matter is is that he did more for Knicks
basketball the last time I looked, than anybody else in
recent history. We all know about the collapses of the Knicks.
It happens a lot, and in many years it was constant.
But I'll tell you what, Tims is gonna land somewhere nice.

(20:56):
He's gonna get a good job, I hope somewhere. And
I agree with with Jacob. I mean, they're gonna have
to get somebody that's either a want it or B
taking teams into the finals several times even if they
haven't won it all. But it's gonna be difficult, it
really is. It's not easy to come back another season.

(21:16):
They've got the good they've got, They've got good starting
five year old question and a couple of guys off
the bench. But it's gonna be It's gonna be tough.
But no, I I'm tired of these knee jerk owners
and and CEO presidents whatever they are basketball ops doing
this kind of crap and they could pay a heavy
price for this the next we shall see. But Tis,

(21:39):
you did a great job, Taylor Well.

Speaker 3 (21:43):
I was shocked to hear the firing of TIBs. I
I think the Knicks came a little. The Knicks came
just two games short of reaching the NBA Finals, and
Tom Tom thibodeau them that far. Really, players like Karl

(22:04):
Anthony Towns, Jalen Brunson, O g Ananobi, Josh Hart all
those guys. Those guys are are are great and coachable.
There's just no way Tim should have been fired period
that I thought. I thought. I just thought that was

(22:27):
the wrong decision. That's it, Handy, He's.

Speaker 4 (22:33):
Getting paid thirty million dollars for the next two years
to do whatever he wants. Hmmm, I want to sign
up for that. But anyways, come on.

Speaker 8 (22:48):
You're getting paid that much at your place. Record isn't fair.
It's what you sign up for. And let's face it,
intoday's game, and I don't here what sport you're you're
coaching or managing.

Speaker 4 (23:04):
If you don't have the end result that the owners want,
this could be the end result no matter what, and
what everybody is looking for is that Stanley Kupp the
NBA Final, winning that World Series champion. You want to
be the number one team and that's what everybody the
super Bowl champion, that's what everybody's going for. And if

(23:27):
you're not that and you don't get your team to
that point, a lot a lot of owners are pulling it,
pulling it and pulling it quick. Now. The one thing
I will also say, managing and coaching today is not
the same as it was five ten years ago. It's changed.

(23:50):
The players have changed. And if you can adapt to
those changes, what happened to Tom Thibodeau is going to
happen to more, more and more. You know, if if
you look at the Pacers Rick Carlisle, he's adapted and
changed his coaching style over the years and that and
look where he is now. So if you're a coach

(24:10):
and you don't do that, you might end up more
like Thibodeaux instead of like Rick Carlisle.

Speaker 1 (24:16):
Well, and I'll talk about Rick Carlele later in the show,
but I'll let you brought his name up glad to Jacob.

Speaker 6 (24:21):
Well another thing too, in truth, I think about this
John Wooden could. John Wooden could coach in any era,
just considering how his temperament was. Really, by itself, you
can get on them. Someone asked an office, bring up
another one, Larry Bird that coached Indiana. Someone asked if

(24:45):
he could still get away with doing things the way
he did as a three year coach in Indiana. Absolutely,
And it's not because it wasn't because it's a simple fact.
Yet he left him on the play, you know, he
left them because they were late. All that kind of stuff.
It isn't what gets the players. That's not what's getting

(25:06):
the mad. That's not all that kind of stuff like that.
It's how honest are you? Right? How honest are you?
And it's like the play by itself, with the egos
the players have. If they know you're straightforward and straight up,
it doesn't matter what era you're in. The main thing
about it, though, is Timbo screaming all the time. It
reminds me of Carlossimo. It's screaming all the time. Are

(25:29):
you a tough guy? No? I mean, in fact, I
saw a picture of Thibadeau today with a mullet. He
he he looks like pat Riley with a mullet. It's
I mean, you wouldn't believe that kind of stuff. But
it's like he just he used to be stylish and
you're not a tough guy. But that's what I think
of when I think of people screaming all the time.

(25:51):
You're trying to be tough. It's like, that's not the
way of communication. And unless you are their dad or
you're don't do it often, but you get their attention.
It's not gonna work anymore. Screaming constantly is not gonna work.
Bob Knight would not work here. It's just true. It's
you got it. You gotta give it a reason when

(26:13):
you're screaming and everything like that. It's like you got
to give it to a point where it's every forty
games and you're you're having a losing streak and you
finally go off. They'll listen. But it can't be every game,
every play, every everything like it can't be chaos. And
that's what Thibodeau is. As wonderful as a coach as
he is, you got to stop the chaos a little bit.

Speaker 1 (26:37):
Great points I'll will say about this. I want to
keep moving the show along. Is James Dolan I just
hope for your sake this one doesn't bite you because
a man had the franchise going in the right direction.
And that's all I'm gonna say about it. I'm gonna
keep my words short and sweet, right to the point. Now,

(26:57):
non sports topic of the night. Oh I love this
one because I'm in the travel business tonight. Oh my goodness,
I've been waiting to get this one out here for
a long time, and now we can tell it. Great stuff, really,
seriously really, Oh, I love it all right. Americans will
need a visa in two thousand dollars to visit Brazil

(27:19):
beginning April of twenty thirty five for tours of business
or transit, ending a free visa policy in place at
twenty nineteen. Guess what my travel agent said. It's too dangerous.
I wouldn't send you there anyway. Don't worry about it.
I'm only putting this out there for information. FYI. Nobody
asked to come on it. I want to get it

(27:41):
out there anybody that wants to find But we're not
going around a horn of this one, or any of
them for that matter, on a non sport.

Speaker 2 (27:49):
There you go.

Speaker 1 (27:50):
But if that makes it even more interesting. If you're
in Brazil. Guess what we'll continue the In Brazil, prisoners
can actually reduce their sentence by forty by four days
for every book that they read and write a report
up to forty eight days per year. My goodness, why
we do things in Brazil?

Speaker 6 (28:10):
Love it? No, not in that.

Speaker 2 (28:11):
Particular situation or the other one.

Speaker 1 (28:14):
I'm not putting two grand in my pocket to go there.
Maybe when I was single many years ago and I
had the greatest person on the planet next to me,
I would have gone to Rio. I would have had
a good time with the Brazili Wins. And I know
Real dejon Earra was a great place to go. In
my phone say there, but the best one of the
group was actually really really Newest travelers now need a
approval to enter UK as a January twenty twenty five,

(28:38):
the Electronic Travel Authorization. Now this one isn't bad. I'll
tell you why again. My traveling travel agent Adrian so
sol lover, she's booking our trip right can says it
will it take three minutes to get him?

Speaker 2 (28:54):
Will we got ours in three minutes?

Speaker 1 (28:56):
I was shocked. What did we do on candy on
Friday Night? What did we do afterwards, booked everything else,
biing go. It's so bad to go to the UK,
but the Brazil, Hey, the prisoners are getting rewarded for
reading books and you have it to have two grand
in your pocket.

Speaker 2 (29:16):
It's dangerous.

Speaker 1 (29:17):
And when Mike Greenberg had to fit with the water
down there for the Olympics, you wren't too happy about
it either. There's your travel tips of the Night, presented
by The South worda tribune and shake Back Media Group.

Speaker 2 (29:28):
How about that? What was the coast sponsor on this one?

Speaker 6 (29:30):
There?

Speaker 1 (29:31):
Because I decided to take this thing travel and shake
Back Media Group as now the unofficial or official sponsor
of the Sports of Change tonight. And you'll get to
mention that later in the broadcast.

Speaker 2 (29:41):
How's that sold? Will? Never expected that? Did you? Unbelievable stuff?
There you go.

Speaker 1 (29:47):
Nobody has to comment, but there you go. UK, there
you go, flash out of the hardware of their will
a god love it? So you better have two grand
in your pocket and probably a whole lot more when
you go to Brazil, because that's the chicken to need
and to get that visa and court prisoners. I think
it's a good time for the behavior. This guy get
a little smarter in prison. UK were on our way.

(30:10):
What a beautiful thing. Anybody, I'll say anything, you're going
to move on.

Speaker 7 (30:16):
I know the Brazilians have a lot of partying.

Speaker 6 (30:19):
They do.

Speaker 7 (30:20):
I was at a conference once in Nashville for a
company I worked for, and we all gathered in the
evening for some fun times and some you know, dancing
and all that. But the Brazilians stole the show. They
were all grouped together in what part of the outdoor
plaza we were on, and they were hopping in, hollering
and drinking and carrying on like nobody else. No one

(30:44):
else from the United States could match their level of excitement.
So I've seen the Brazilians up clost at least one
time in my life, and yeah, they're They're definitely in
there for entertaining and partying. I don't agree with that.
I don't. But in today's political environment, which I'm not
going to bring up, but I did. No, No, I
don't like teams and I mean countries anyway, slapping stuff

(31:07):
on and all that stuff.

Speaker 6 (31:08):
So allars, okay, George, that's the bucket list. I gotta
get on now I'm.

Speaker 7 (31:13):
To see Okay, all right, I.

Speaker 6 (31:16):
Gotta see you dance, George. That's my bucket list.

Speaker 2 (31:18):
Oh I say, I'll say one thing.

Speaker 1 (31:21):
I got it Brazilian that lives next to us, and
when I did have back surgery, the guy did make
me food.

Speaker 2 (31:25):
He is a pretty good took any rights of fight.
But I'll even at that.

Speaker 1 (31:29):
Not going any further. I think I've gone further enough
because we're going to my town, Willie. I'm gonna call
on you first because I've asked you to do us
a favorite and give us some information. And then the
Dallas Mavericks they say they need a new arena by
twenty by twenty thirty one, thirty two seasons. CEO Rick
Wilt says, what do you think of that? Do they
really need a new area?

Speaker 5 (31:53):
Will not necessarily need? I mean, ac Is is still
pretty modern, and what's the other word, I'm looking for renaissance. However,
I do understand the competitive nature of franchise owners and

(32:14):
team presidents and all those great things to where they want.
They want to have the shiniest new toy out of
the box. I'm more interested in seeing what would happen
with the AAC Some of you guys may know or
may not know that it's downtown Dallas. And the mayor
prior to the last mayor, prior to the mayor before that,

(32:37):
was solely responsible for not only the new Cowboys Stadium
built being built in Arlington, but also the horse race
part that we have in grand period, all of this
stuff was supposed to be downtown Dallas. So I just
wonder what's gonna happen. And to be honest, I mean

(33:01):
the MAVs, I think they're going the other way at
least for until Kyrie comes back all the way healthy,
like we know Kyrie to be. So I understand what
It's twenty thirty one, so that's what six years from
now by then, I mean, I don't I'm glad. I'm
just glad that when they do or if they do

(33:22):
approve it, I'm glad I don't live in Dallas County
because that tax is going to be high.

Speaker 1 (33:26):
I did say one thing for those individuals, AC I
believe it's the American Airlines Center, right, Yes, yeah, because
they used to have an.

Speaker 2 (33:33):
American Airlines arena in Miami from the heat.

Speaker 1 (33:36):
I'm going to continue to mind town for for everybody else.

Speaker 2 (33:39):
First of all, we're gonna go to no.

Speaker 1 (33:41):
The Southeastern University here locally and they're based in Davy.
The Miami Miami Dolphins actually used to train over there.
They built any facility there. I don't know what they're
doing with it now to use that. But their men's
basketball team get that. Okay, they win the Division two
national championship is what they did. But their head coach,

(34:02):
Jim Crutchfield, it was honored as the NABC Coach of
the Year since a twenty twenty one twenty twenty two season.
And if she was one thirty five and five, let
me repeat, people, one thirty five and five with a
nine to sixty four winning percentage, that's unbelievable. And then

(34:24):
for winning four consecutive Sunshine State Conference Regular Season of
Attorney titles and the rest you can read on the
South for a Tribune. And they also have two national championships.
The show for their efforts as well as an undefeated
season to get one of those national titles. Well, you
know what, even though it's my town, you're the basketball authority,

(34:46):
what do you think of the job that's being done
as a division tool. So I've had I've interviewed Jim
Crushield before Michael As. One of these days, I'll go
ahead and bring them on our seven and maybe there's
a chance with the sports rep you and I and
him can talk if you're ever interested on a Thursday night.
If not, I'll have on line myself. But Jeff Crutchfield
done an unbelievable job, and this guy is on the

(35:08):
best kept secret.

Speaker 3 (35:09):
It's a college basketball.

Speaker 5 (35:13):
And if he has an inkling or a desire to
go to a different level, I think wherever he is
or the location that he's currently at, they should grant
his all out release for what he's been able to do.
I don't care what the competition level competition level is,

(35:35):
I don't care if it's beginner on Madden or all
NBA on NBA jams. I just don't that that doesn't matter.
When you have that type of success, the cache that
you have developed, the pool that you now have, you
can he should not have to ever have to buy
a beer or a steak again in that town.

Speaker 1 (36:00):
We say one thirty five and five and nine with
a nine sixty four winning percentage is unbelievable.

Speaker 2 (36:07):
And I will leave it at that. I don't care
what level you're on. And by the way, he likes
it there.

Speaker 1 (36:12):
I'm gonna work diligently when I get back from Europe
to get this guy on the show.

Speaker 2 (36:16):
Where I'm going to go back down there.

Speaker 1 (36:17):
But I wanted to make sure that Nova Southeastern University,
which by the way, is a media distribution partner for
the South work Tremune got their national recognition. And since
we'll be talking a lot of championship basketball on the
college level, as I introduced more and more of those
topics here on the Sports Exchange, I felt like it
was necessary to give Nova Southeastern University. They're due tonight,
Nova Southeastern University. We're proud to have you a part

(36:40):
of affiliate with us. All right, I'm going to flip
it around the horn, Willie. Do you have anything else
you want to add to your mind town or as well?
Or I know we talked about the MAVs. I kind
of ask you to do that one. There might be
something else that you have.

Speaker 5 (36:54):
Uh No, I'll save my I'll save my trolley for
the for this part of the show and football season starts.

Speaker 2 (37:04):
Oh, I'll spare all right, Jacob.

Speaker 6 (37:06):
I got in my town. I'm gonna go from my
old town in Quincy Illinois where I was last week,
And this is to Candy. By the way, we got
the first woman mayor. They got the first woman mayor,
and after over one hundred some odd years, they got
to her. And her name is doctor Linda Moore. And
I mean things I can agree, things I can can't.

(37:26):
I'm gonna go whatever. But she's pretty I can say,
she's pretty infensive. Right now she's trying to fix all
the potholes which are up pile. This is ridiculous. Right now,
she's working in itself. She's gonna be paying, she's gonna
be paying a hew heck of a lot of bills
and trying to get everything like that. I'm not sure
what she's good. I'm not sure how much is gonna
be built up there, but there's But the first thing

(37:47):
is the basics, which was needed a long time ago.
So I thought i'd tell you about that. That was
the first, over one hundred some odd years, they got
a woman mayor. Now so in Quincy, Illinois. So but
the funny thing I find I wanted to say that
they just they put together at sports commission in that town,
which Quincy's nothing but sports. It's uterly Cornfields and sports.

(38:10):
It's like putting the Sports commission there is like putting
more tennis players in wibledon. So it's I mean, it's
just not it's not necessary. But overall, you know, congratulations
to them for what they did. It's like it wasn't
a big the voter turnout, but she took vantage of it.
She got it, and I just wanted to bring that.

Speaker 2 (38:29):
Up to you.

Speaker 6 (38:30):
I thought you enjoyed that candy.

Speaker 4 (38:32):
Thank you.

Speaker 1 (38:33):
M h kay, George, I know you're in Detroit. You're
gonna say something boutb but go ahead and say what
do you want about Detroit?

Speaker 2 (38:38):
That's your opening.

Speaker 7 (38:39):
Well, it's a sad report, and obviously you guys have
all heard that. The Lions center Frank reg now four
time Pro Bowl selection seven NFL seasons, only twenty nine
years old. I repeat, Frank, only twenty nine years old,
said the past couple of months have been very trying

(39:02):
as I've come to the realization that my football journey
is ending and I'm officially retiring from the NFL. Not
the kind of news that Lions fans and management wanted
to hear. But he's been so banged out the last
few years. He's been a warrior, a gladiator, toes that
have bothered him and knees and all the shoulder injuries

(39:23):
and everything else. Frank, you are definitely an All Star
and we are really really sad that you're hanging up
at such a young age. But it goes to show
and tell people that yes to the number one game
in America football, but it still is a very very
brutal and physical game that you really really don't realize

(39:46):
unless you're in the trenches like Frank Ragnow. The Lions
are gonna miss him. They're definitely gonna miss him. Brad
Holmes will go out and as he does so wonderfully
the last few years, and find some more talent. He
signed some guy today already. Uh, but there's gonna be more.
There's gonna be more. But trust me, this team and

(40:07):
the quarterback Jared Goff, everybody on the offense is gonna
miss Frank Gregnow. And just thank you on behalf of
Lions fans for all you gave.

Speaker 2 (40:19):
Taylor.

Speaker 3 (40:21):
Well. The Tigers are the first MLB team to reach
forty wins. Holy cow. They just keep finding ways to win.
Now they're leading four nothing over the lowly There's lowly
Chicago White Sox top of the second scored all four
runs in the first an what else is new?

Speaker 2 (40:39):
Right?

Speaker 3 (40:39):
They beat them thirteen to one two nights ago like
they were supposed to. Uh, yeah, they last night was
uh last night was terrible. The bullpen just took up.
It was a bullpen night. Looks like Riightley Breen's gonna
fly out there. But anyway, the Tigers are fine. In

(41:00):
a buyer's market, they have to have an extra reliever.
They haven't. They have an extra bat. I'd say, get
a real clean up hit hitter for God's sake, Okay,
and then they'll have a total package. Mike Trout.

Speaker 7 (41:16):
There you go, really.

Speaker 3 (41:18):
Or botha Schetti or Nolan arnetto.

Speaker 1 (41:21):
Yeah, I'll hold your breath and leave it alone. Mike
Trouting treat Okay, Katie, you're gonna do your mic town.
They're giving us a station break.

Speaker 4 (41:30):
Well, I'm gonna and I actually have two my towns.
So the first my town is where I currently live. So,
for the first time since two thousand and eight, an
NHL team and it's AHL affiliate are vying for their
respective cups. So the Florida Panthers obviously started tonight in

(41:53):
there in playing in the Stanley Cup. But they're AHL affiliate.
The Charlotte Checkers all reached the Calder Cup finals and
are playing in the Calder Cup. So it's first time
since two thousand and eight. And then my town back
in Wisconsin. For those of you that don't know, I

(42:16):
am a UW Whitewater graduate. UW Whitewater graduate. The baseball
team the Warhawks were the most dominant in one of
the most dominant performances in the NC two A Division
three championship history. The University of Wisconsin Whitewater baseball team

(42:38):
secured the national title with a twenty one to three
win over Messiah University. The Warhawks scored seventy four runs
over the course of their five games at the World Series,
a Division three record to hoist the championship trophy for
the third time in program history. They did it once

(43:01):
in two thousand and five, twenty fourteen, and now twenty
twenty five. So congratulations to my alma water alma mater,
UW Wisconsin Whitewater Warhawks.

Speaker 6 (43:13):
Messiah was waiting to get twenty eight to three so
I can come back.

Speaker 2 (43:19):
And that was waiting for Jacob to say some.

Speaker 1 (43:23):
All right, Katie, I'm going any longer for a station
break because you're gonna go please, thank you.

Speaker 4 (43:29):

Speaker 1 (44:35):
Thank you, Kay, one thing that should belong in my mind, Tonne.
I'll just get it up there really quickly. You're your self.
Florida Athletic director. Michael Kelly has accepted a job over
at Navy. So great work to Michael Kelly. I had
an opportunity to interview him one on one when I
was over at USF when they took on FAU. What
a great guy. And I wish Michael Kelly well in

(44:58):
his new endeavor at Navy, and done a wonderful job
at the USF Athletic program, so I'll have an opportunity.
I mentioned Michael Kelly again, great work in my alma
monitor and I hope it goes all your next stop
over at Navy. All right, With that said, we'll continue
going on. Willie wasn't here last week when we started.
But wait, this is a new segment called the Baseball
Topic of the Night. All right, because I know Belly

(45:20):
has a I know that we have a really good
good baby. Willie likes to do some bayfall on the show,
so he's going to be out having the opportunity to
go ahead and come in on this, and I'll come
up with some interesting ones as well. On April second,
nineteen ninety six, Cecil Fielders steal first base of his fields,

(45:41):
the first base of his career with Detroit Tigers. Cecil
Fielders stealing a base, Willie, unbelievable. What do you think
of cecil fielder stealing a base with a Tiger?

Speaker 9 (45:58):
That thing, cecil Fielder, that one. That's why I brought
it up, That same one. The guy in Japan and
then hit fifty home runs with the Tiger. Cecil Fielder
that one.

Speaker 5 (46:11):
Yeah, he's a five to two player now he can
beat you with his feet.

Speaker 6 (46:19):
I was waiting for a lot of other things.

Speaker 2 (46:21):
I was waiting for you to say that, Willie. I do.

Speaker 1 (46:23):
That's why I went off with you. My brother, because
he's a five too.

Speaker 5 (46:27):
He's a five two player now.

Speaker 2 (46:29):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (46:30):
And the man that refined his baskets in Japan, small
Berrys and the Tigers. That was a holiday I saw
that April second, ninety six. Yeah, baseball probably of the night,
all right, Jacob Christper.

Speaker 6 (46:45):
Yeah, it's I remember I saw that part, and I'm
like This is the only thing I can think of.
What in the world did that catch her out there?
What hell did he catch in that locker room, allowing
Cecil Fielder to get a stolen base? Yeah, yeah, Tessil,
you have to really, I mean, it is like putting
a flatbed truck on the on a on the Landamore

(47:08):
S Freeway just racing it. It's just I mean, it's
just ridiculous.

Speaker 2 (47:13):
You know, it's a good one.

Speaker 1 (47:15):
Atlanta over Speedway and cider in the same.

Speaker 2 (47:20):
Comments my Christopher very much.

Speaker 6 (47:22):
Yes, all right, all right, George.

Speaker 7 (47:25):
Yeah, it's a great topic, very timely.

Speaker 2 (47:29):
Uh.

Speaker 7 (47:29):
I know on YouTube if you folks want to look
it up, they got George Kell and al Cayline were
the announcers and they do have that posted that stolen base,
and they were just beside themselves. I remember Kelly Kaylin.
They couldn't believe what they just saw Cecil Feeler. Really
it was a great moment in Detroit Tiger's history, and

(47:51):
there have been a lot of good moments, but I
always like says, he was a great guy. Obviously, it's
unfortunate what happened with him and Prince over the years,
but he was a great part of Detroit. He got
inducted last summer, I'm sorry, last fall, finally into the
Michigan Sports Hall of Fame. Hats off to you, Cecil.

(48:13):
Was good seeing you there and being part of the
Class of twenty twenty four. And he also, as you
remember Scott, he cleared the roof one time among a
select few that did that at Tiger Stadium.

Speaker 6 (48:29):
He's done it twice. He did it twice.

Speaker 7 (48:32):
Okay, I'll take your word for it, mister Jacobs.

Speaker 3 (48:35):
Five times on the roof, two twice over the roof.

Speaker 7 (48:38):
Okay, thank you, mister baseball.

Speaker 2 (48:40):
I mean Taylor.

Speaker 7 (48:45):
Did it twice. Anyways, I love you. I'll move away
and let you have the guys comment.

Speaker 1 (48:52):
Well, want not forget Reggie Jackson didn't.

Speaker 2 (48:55):
All right, Taylor, go ahead.

Speaker 3 (48:57):
Cecil Fayler was a beast. He was my famor, a
Tiger of all time. He just kept hitting Bob after
bomb after Bob after Bob and didn't even steal his
first base until nineteen ninety six at the Metro Dome.
That that's exactly the year Cecil stole his first ever
Major League baseball base.

Speaker 2 (49:20):
That was.

Speaker 3 (49:22):
Running power.

Speaker 1 (49:23):
I told gave it an ouncers. Really good.

Speaker 5 (49:28):
That explains the whole thing right there. That's the fast
turf in the old Metro Dome.

Speaker 3 (49:32):
There you go exactly. I saw it on a YouTube
video too. I even saw it live when I was
a teenager.

Speaker 1 (49:37):
For goodness sake, Well, let me tell you something about
the Metro Dome, since I have an illustrious injury history
there cover the lions and I'm actually wearing some hiking
boots and they got caught in that stupid turf over there,
and I.

Speaker 2 (49:52):
Had had my knee drained when I got back.

Speaker 1 (49:54):
And for all you people that have to know that
Billy Simms career ended over the Metro Dome, I'm leaving
at that talk about the Minisoma turf. Well, I like
your reference, but at least my knees and my hiking
booth didn't really quite jive on that surf.

Speaker 2 (50:07):
That's how I'll leave it. That with my creble.

Speaker 1 (50:09):
So now you heard about the the first part of
my mindset with the we talked about earlier, to show
well the depression business with all across the now my
injury history with these over the Mexrodome. I quit with
that stuff. Okay, I'll turn over to Candy eviling so
we can talk about some upbeat NBA WNBA news. Go

(50:30):
to puntit punt. We'll wrap it up tonight, Candy. W'll
probably have a parting shot, but all right, go ahead, Candy,
you're wrapping up with not Prince but Cecil Fielder.

Speaker 4 (50:39):
Fielder had a reputation for being a slow based runner.
In nineteen ninety six, he set a major league record
by taking one thousand, ninety six games to record his
first career stolen base, which occurred on a botched hit
and run. He stole another base that season as well,

(51:00):
and finished his career with two stolen bases over thirteen
seasons and one thousand, four hundred and seventy games. He
was one of only four players and the only Tiger
to homer over the left field roof at Tigers Stadium.

(51:21):
The other three were Harmon Killerbrew, Frank Howard, and Mark McGuire.
He also hit the only home run to ever travel
completely out of Milwaukee County Stadium during either the Braves
Milwaukee history from fifty three to sixty five or the
Brewers Park history from seventy to two thousand. He played

(51:45):
his final season for the Tigers in nineteen ninety six.

Speaker 1 (51:50):
They go Milwaukee County Stadium. People Harmon Kilroy. Those are
some names in the past. Great, yeah, okay, well.

Speaker 2 (51:58):
It is what it is, all right.

Speaker 1 (51:59):
You know we're going to NBA. Well maybe not quite
the WNBA house that that we.

Speaker 3 (52:03):
Go the NBA.

Speaker 1 (52:05):
You want to talk about impressive stories, we always talk
about the other. Obviously, this is an unbelievable story. That's
why it made tonight show. Golden State Balcrease, here's a
name to seventeen thousand, four hundred and twenty eight fans
for their WNBA preseason debut. People, listen, preseason, I've talked

(52:27):
about Liason. They put seventeen thousand, four and twenty eight
week man in the Chase Center. Can't it a little bit?
We all know a little bit about Chase. I have
a big acount with a mother, which is the third
highest ever attendance for a WNBA preseason game. But we're
not finished. It even gets any better to add to that.

(52:49):
Now they have three straight regular season sellout and they
became the first WNBA franchise to pack the house with
eight two thousand plus fans and their first three games unbelievable.
Willie a Baria man. Right, we always us to have
that thing, right, but we're talking about the Golden State. Crazy, Hope,

(53:13):
I'm saying it right. Yeah, you bang by somebody.

Speaker 5 (53:18):
Yeah, you're saying it correctly, Scooter and uh, I don't
want to look at the Valkyrie franchise as the singular
responsible party for this because my wife and I have
credentials to cover the Dallas Wings.

Speaker 2 (53:37):
Okay, And we were at.

Speaker 5 (53:40):
The game this past Friday night when Angel Rees in
the Chicago Sky came to town. But unfortunately there was
no Page Beckers in this game because she was dealing
with concussion of protocol. But I think for for an
arena like that, obviously that is suited for the NBA.

(54:00):
To get that kind of volume for a preseason game
is a true testament for that league. And it's been
in existence now for thirty years, since nineteen ninety five.

Speaker 10 (54:14):
And.

Speaker 5 (54:15):
All things in reference to their ceiling, that league ceiling,
it is like unimaginable the types of things that they
could do with what they have already in the league
and the influx of these great players. And then next

(54:36):
year is not gonna be anything different with a couple
of stars coming out from usc Juju Watkins and some others.
I just think that it's about time that the WNBA
is getting the just due that they deserve.

Speaker 1 (54:50):
Right well, don't worry. What more w NBA topics is.
This one's too good to pass up. With women's basketball
drawing seventeen to eighteen thousand, that's just unbelievable. And bear
in mind these facilities here are used just because you
have more dates of those arenas, and Golden State doing
it in a big way. Let's not kill herself as
the numbers don't why they really don't. And I know

(55:13):
Page Becker's and Kaylyn Clark and the faces of the league.
But with Golden State doing early on the first impressions
made anything that valcras are auto tremendous. More power to them.
I'm happy for them. Never field good story in this league.
They really are, Okay, turnover to mister opinion, Jacob.

Speaker 2 (55:30):
Mister fact that too.

Speaker 6 (55:32):
Okay. The big thing about it is I was reading
up on something and when Kaylen Clark went down. Before
she went down, the average price of a ticket forty
one bucks now down Byking Indiana's down three bucks to
three dollars for the lowest ticket it went that low
that fast. So this is the thing. Congratulations to the

(55:53):
Valkyries for doing that. That is awesome for them. It's
necessary and it's needed because there is going to be
a CBA. There's gonna be a CBA coming up in October.
This determine all this and I'm calling it it's both
the Collective Bartney Agreement and the Capeman Bargaining Agreement. They
are because they they had better hope she doesn't want

(56:15):
to start her own league and get that. It's like,
it's because let me tell you this, I watched the
Liberty in Indiana game. That was way more exciting than
most of the NBA games, way more exciting, wonderful ball,
I mean, And the thing was they cut the three
pointers in half and then they go inside. That was
great passing. I was loved it. It's beautiful. But it's

(56:38):
like the big thing about this is the fact that
they lost forty million last year because they spent more
than they've ever spent before just because of the promotion.
But the issue being you have that now you're gonna
spend even more now to go try to make some money,
and now you've got to Now you have a Collective
Bargaining Agreement coming, you have to prove to them that

(57:01):
they got to be able to keep because they're not.
They're still not making the money of the NBA, the
share the you know, the shared value, they don't make
it anywhere near that. And then there are ones that
are saying they'll just sit out if they don't get
their way, and it's like, how do you convince by itself.
That's why I'm saying that I made the joke of
the Kaitlyn Barney agreement because you better listen to her.

(57:23):
But it's like you better listen to her because WNBA
can't go down. They can't do this. This is momentum
right now. They lose momentum now they'll never get it back.
It's like, and it's not like that it would hurt.
Caitlyn should just go play professional golf. Yeah, it's it
just it just doesn't matter. I mean, Angel Rees go

(57:44):
do some podcasting. I don't know, it just won't matter.
And it's like they have to keep their momentum going constantly,
which means get the CBA done before that time.

Speaker 1 (57:55):
Seriously, Well, it's funny you say momentum, George, and I
use that word a lot in our first edition of
wart Rafts all even at that, but I will not
hesitate to turn over to mister Eichhorn.

Speaker 7 (58:06):
Go ahead, George, Oh well, thank you. You know they
want too.

Speaker 2 (58:11):
Can be nice to this guy when he's doing the
right thing.

Speaker 7 (58:16):
Won two and lost three I think in the preseason.
But those statistics are outstanding their attendance. It just proves
again that people out there, women and men, are hungry
for the WNBA and see some exciting basketball. The ladies
do a terrific job. I mean, I know they've toiled
for what two decades or more. Now the WNBA we

(58:40):
had a franchise in Detroit, we lost it. All that
to say, it's still very very and it's increasing in popularity.
So I'm glad to hear in now. San Francisco is
a great area for basketball. You know that Willie and
Scott and jacob us that have been around a long time,
go back to the days when the Warriors did play
in San Francis scope before they moved to Oakland, and

(59:02):
now they're back in San Francisco and Steph Curry and
all the rest is history. But the women now have
a chance to shine in Frisco, and I think that's fantastic.
Those crowds have been really, really good. Yes, I know
a lot of it is Caitlin and some of the
star players, but what the heck, why not, you know,
ride that momentum and ride that challenge that you have

(59:23):
with trying to get people into the seats. But they've
done a great job the last year or two. Keep
it up, Keep it up, w NBA and San Francisco Taylor.

Speaker 3 (59:34):
Golden State finally has a w NBA team. Whoop do do? Well? Yeah, well,
look what happened to the Detroit Shock, but Golden State, Well,
the Detroit Shock may come back because of Tom Gores,
but the Golden State Falkyrie's Holy cow. It's a hot ticket,

(59:58):
like George Icon pointed out two and three in the preseason,
but you never know what's going to happen in the
regular season. So I just wish them good luck.

Speaker 4 (01:00:07):
Candy Valkyries have done a good job by getting name
players to be out there and help them. How big
is it for Golden State Warrior Steph Curry NBA Champion
to wear a Valkyrie's T shirt and put it out
there on social media? Is he publicizing is he repping,

(01:00:29):
you know, for the Golden State Valkyries of course, and
there's other celebrities that have shown their support as well.
Two thousand and eight Valkyries were the first w expansion
teams since two thousand and eight. Before they even tipped
off the inaugural season, the Valkyries had sold ten thousand

(01:00:54):
season tickets. So getting eighteen thousand to me, if they
have already ten thought season ticket holders, kudos to them.
I mean, they're the first W team to reach that
mark ten thousand season tickets. Kudos to the Women's League
for and not just basketball, but all kinds of different sports,

(01:01:15):
because let's face it, if you don't know, well, this
probably should have should be my partying shot at the
end of the night. But there's a new women's professional
softball season that's gonna start June seventh. Kudos to women's
sports taking a forefront and coming back and people liking it,
people are attending it, people supporting women's sports. I love it.

Speaker 1 (01:01:47):
All. Right. NBA Finals predictions, I'm gonna lead off with
this one first, Okay, so I want to preface what
we talked about. We mentioned Rick Carlisle, Rick carl Carlisle
the Pacers. There is a chance to become the fourth
head coach in league history to win an NBA championship
with two different franchises. He led the Masks for the

(01:02:09):
NBA title in twenty eleven. By the way, I guess
the Miami Heat now, but four or five?

Speaker 2 (01:02:17):
Stuff? Okay? But he did.

Speaker 1 (01:02:19):
He would join Alice Handhm Hawks, seventy six Ers, Phil Jackson, Bulls, Lakers,
and pat Riley Lakers. He well, he talked about a
great company. Guess what I'm pulling for its You know
what I'm gonna do. I'm gonna predict the Dangers to
win it in six. H Okay, but that's it. What
do you think, Willie? What's your prediction his games? We

(01:02:42):
don't have to worry about how many routes there are.

Speaker 5 (01:02:44):
I actually like Rick Carlisle a lot. He's he's he's
always been easy to talk to for me. I know
he's got a little bit of a edgy side when
it comes to that, but I'm pulling for him. But
I just don't think they got enough horses. I'm gonna
say the thunder and six.

Speaker 1 (01:03:05):
Let me also point out another interesting fact. Actually, he's
in my book Lessons from the microphone, and when I'm
sitting over at courtside, I watched his calm demeanor. It's
really taught me a lot, and I've actually tried to
be that in a lot of ways in terms of
being a poker face. But when you compare the market
size of these two franchises, Oklahoma City is twenty fifth
with a seven hundred and fifty five thousand, and on

(01:03:25):
top of that, Indianapolis one point one eighty three million,
they're twenty first. So obviously, if you're looking for two
big market teams, you're not getting them in this. But
it'll be an interesting battle. And actually indian is looking
for the first championship and Oklahoma City slash Seattle hasn't
won one since nineteen seventy nine when Winnie Wilkins was there.

Speaker 2 (01:03:46):
But that said, somebody's gonna break a drought.

Speaker 6 (01:03:48):
Jacob thunder and seven. But I mind. The thing I'm
saying about it is this internet, and then we're gonna
talk about that in a second. A bunch of goofs.
They are completely underestimating the Pacers, and they're doing it
on purpose. The Pacers are a well run oiled machine.

(01:04:09):
Maybe they don't have the same horses, but that is
a well run team. Yeah, don't. It's like they're treating
like it's gonna be a four or five, and I'm like, no,
the Pacers are tough and it's gonna be a good series.
And the thing is, truthfully, this is a good thing
for the league because now the big market teams can't
just go off to being the big market anymore. Right

(01:04:30):
they're ever I mean, people are going to get used
to this. It's like, you can't just I'm saying this
part here. It isn't just gonna be Dodgers and Yankees anymore.
I'd see in the next ten years or so, probably
can see Minnesota versus Miami in the World Series. You
never know. I mean, I'm saying this ten ten years

(01:04:50):
or so. It's like, because big market and small market
almost be interchangeable as far as the kind of players
that they can be able to get. And look at
the p players that Oklahoma City has. You would see
him on the Knicks or the you see Sga on
the Knicks or the Lakers, I mean even a few
years ago. Well and he's an Okay, see look at
all these and it's like they're just gonna be interchangeable

(01:05:13):
now and it's just gonna be a wonderful series.

Speaker 2 (01:05:16):
So what was your prediction again?

Speaker 6 (01:05:18):
UNDERD and seven, I go to George Iithorn.

Speaker 7 (01:05:22):
Well, this I think will be a very entertaining series,
I really do. And it's doesn't matter if they're big
cities or not. Come on, I mean, this is a
sport that's grown in popularity for a number of years,
the NBA, and it is exciting to see teams that
haven't been there or haven't haven't been there in a while.

(01:05:42):
But most of the favorites are most of the prognosticators
are picking Oklahoma City obviously to beat Indiana. But I
really think that I think it's gonna go seven. But
I'm also going with Oklahoma City. But it's gonna be
a darn good series, great basketball. Looking forward to it,
starting with Game one tomorrow night. And Scott and I'll

(01:06:05):
never forget that Memorial Day weekend when we covered the
five hundred and then we saw the Indiana Pacers. We
got We're lucky to get a couple of tickets off
the street because we didn't have credentials back then, not
for the Pacers. Yeah, and we saw them play. Was
it the Knicks?

Speaker 2 (01:06:20):
Right? Yeah, it was unbelievable.

Speaker 7 (01:06:23):
Yeah, it was a great trip. And that was way
back in the day.

Speaker 1 (01:06:27):
Yeah, I thawt I court a little lesson what it
was like to buy tickets in the street because we're
so yes, I couldn't see that side and went till
they're ready to get rid of them there before they're
ready to get rid of the before we the Indion negotiate.
I don't know if you learned anything from that negotiation,
but we got in the Market Square arena. That's all
that matters, all right, turn over the tailor.

Speaker 2 (01:06:48):
I'm glad you.

Speaker 3 (01:06:49):
Brought that up, Thank you, and seven U. The Pacers
are going to give the Thunder a fight, but it's
going to be too much S G. A and Company.

Speaker 1 (01:06:59):
Okay, I'm glad I don't the only one that said Pacers. Well,
that means somebody's got me right here, Katie who was
born in Indiana, but I said born Okay, well who
you got?

Speaker 4 (01:07:14):
This one's tough because Indiana's playing good basketball right now,
right Okay, see played way better, had a really good
regular season. Indiana has really scrapped their way to win
a lot of these games. They've taken down some good teams.

(01:07:37):
Do they have enough gumption to beat okay See, I'd
like to see Indiana win, but I think okay See
is gonna.

Speaker 6 (01:07:49):
Take it good.

Speaker 2 (01:07:50):
I'm glad everybody disagrees with me. I really am. All right.

Speaker 1 (01:07:53):
Well that said, we're going to go over to our
pundits pundit segment and it's just a party shot.

Speaker 2 (01:07:58):
Find otherwise the show is over.

Speaker 6 (01:08:00):
Yeah, it'll be a party shot also.

Speaker 1 (01:08:01):
But okay, Well, anybody that wants to put him in
as okay, just making sure you get your fund and
funded in and then we'll proceed from there. We're on
schedule right now for what we need to do.

Speaker 2 (01:08:11):
We'll just keep it that way. Go ahead, Okay.

Speaker 6 (01:08:15):
Everybody's heard of William Randolph Hurst from here, you know
what I mean. They've heard of him. We've all done
and stuff like that. Back in his day. He only
had the money to do an eight page newspaper because
he didn't have the money. But in the midst of
it all, it was every bit of the that eras
version of big hits of you know, of the clicks,

(01:08:36):
you know, get something no matter whether it's true or not,
and you know that was that time of day, and
it reminded me of how I look forward this because
because Hollywood did the same starred thing for years and
years and years, chose who you could like, who I mean,

(01:08:58):
I mean Jenman May narrative created a narrative. They did this,
and then so you because of that, you saw the
Humphrey Bogar was five four hundred and thirty pounds of
the biggest badass in the world. Because you'd see something
like that, it's good craziness and goofingness. Nineteen eighty one.

(01:09:19):
They did it to Greg Norman. He was the coolest
dude on the planet. It was during the round, the
times of getting you know, they were just starting up
with Paul Hogan and Crackdout Dundee later on. But they
made him he was he was. He got the name
White Sharks because he's supposedly hunted sharks and maybe or
maybe not, but he was the good looking guy and everything.

(01:09:41):
He was going to be everything. And it got to
the point where he gacked up seven for the Grand Slam.
He backed up seven Grand Slam titles, leading by at
least four or five shots. At the end of the round.
You know, we're going into the last round. He was
supposed to be James. He was supposed to be he

(01:10:02):
was supposed to be Crocodile Dundee cool under pressure, and
over and over and over again, the media would just say, Oh,
he can't lose this, Oh he can't lose this, Oh
he can't lose It just kept happeningly. But see, even then,
though we unless you were a detective, you didn't have

(01:10:23):
the memory or anything to be digging up of what
the whole deal was. He didn't forget about it in
the end nineteen eighty six that everybody knows eighty six
as Jack Nicholas is winning the Masters. All the eighty
six was was Norman second place three times and one
of them also unbelievable year. But he gacked up three

(01:10:45):
of them. But we didn't have that. But you want
to know what we have now? We have the Internet.
We can dig on anything, read anything, and yet we
are still doing the William Randolph Hurst thing and creating narratives.
We're still doing it to this day. I brought up

(01:11:09):
I'm just saying he who will not be said with
the with the Bear's quarterback won't say it, say it enough.
Bringing the narratives out there. They did it with him,
They're due. They did it with Justin Field, they do
with all of these others.

Speaker 2 (01:11:21):
They did.

Speaker 6 (01:11:22):
They see, we have the internet now to be able
to dig and show its obvious, and yet people don't care.
They want the narrative. They want the narrative. And it's like,
the narrative is why we have the people we elect?
Who got who it is?

Speaker 2 (01:11:43):
Then?

Speaker 6 (01:11:43):
Because because it's they want they want to believe over
what is true. That is the big deal we have
to get. And the biggest thing is whatever we vote,
and I don't care what anybody votes here or whatever.
We have got to get more intelligent as a people.

(01:12:04):
We have to. It is imperative because other because I'll
tell you this is the truth. We're in idiocracy right now.
The movie we're in a live version of idiocracy. And
and maybe that's gonna be my next title, my thing,
William Randa Hurst idiocracy because that's where we are at.

(01:12:26):
And it's like d ken we I mean, here's what
I'm just gonna ask this question to everybody. Could media
survive if we started getting more intelligent? Good question, all right,
but it's it's imperative for our society because it's going
to get start getting worse.

Speaker 1 (01:12:46):
That's a great question, great pun of the fun of
the thought. Everybody around the horn answer this question, and
we're gonna do a couple of party shots to show
will be over with one last shout out to John Frankish. Okay, Wellie,
what do you think? And media survive When I answers question.

Speaker 5 (01:13:05):
It will survive because it'll be a survival of the fittest,
and the real intelligence is going to come from our
either ability or inability to adapt to what that truth
is going to be, right.

Speaker 2 (01:13:25):
Fair enough, Okay, George.

Speaker 7 (01:13:28):
The media will survive. It has for a long long time,
but it certainly isn't looking like our mom and dad's media.
I mean, things have changed so dramatically. And as a
side note, it was very sad to see Lester Hole
hanging it up as the anchorman at NBC has done
a terrific job filling in when Brian Williams was let

(01:13:50):
go or moved out of there. So but the media,
as we know, going back to Frank Reynolds and all
the great guys chat Frankly, yeah, it'll survive, but it's
already starting to look different. Than obviously it used to be.

Speaker 2 (01:14:05):
All right, I'll say this right now. Yeah, it definitely will.

Speaker 1 (01:14:07):
Intelligence will hurt, people become more knowledgeable what they have
around the there's always going to be around.

Speaker 2 (01:14:12):
Will they survive. I don't know.

Speaker 1 (01:14:14):
It's gonna survive. We have to have sources for information
and new it will survive. Now will job be lost?
We know that because the heat's really changing, But that's
another point. But yeah, that's a great question. Taylor Candy
is the last word, and then we're gonna wrap up the.

Speaker 3 (01:14:27):
Show a couple of minutes, all right, So yeah, the media,
of course it's gonna stay. But late lately, uh, regional
media has been declining.

Speaker 6 (01:14:38):
It's just.

Speaker 3 (01:14:40):
It's become very unprofessional as of late. Just the shilling
and and the uh any other stuff. It's it's got
to stop. Really, But but I see but I see it.
I see it lasting until the end of time.

Speaker 2 (01:14:59):
Can't your opinion?

Speaker 1 (01:15:01):
Then you can have your parting shot and we'll go
through party shots real quick and we're done with one
last tribute to Brankash.

Speaker 4 (01:15:06):
Go ahead, So will it survive? Yes? Will it be
the same?

Speaker 6 (01:15:11):
No?

Speaker 4 (01:15:11):
But Scott is a testament. He wrote a book how
it's changed over his forty plus years in the industry.
Is media going to be the same, No, But is
anybody's job going to be the same? No, all of
them are going to change. They'll be some different form
of it. My parting shot is kudos to Major League
Baseball for partnering with Pro Women's League. They are backing

(01:15:32):
the launch of the new Athletes Unlimited Softball League. It
actually kicks off this weekend June fourth, with four teams
playing twenty four games across ten cities. And who is
the league's first commissioner, none other than former Miami Marlins
GM kim Ning. Kudos to them for starting this league,

(01:15:54):
and I hope they have a lot of success. I
think games are going to be broadcast on network at
MLB dot Com.

Speaker 2 (01:16:01):
That's it, Taylor, go ahead.

Speaker 3 (01:16:05):
Oh I already said it. I already said my two
cents on it.

Speaker 2 (01:16:08):
Very good, okay, George Iicorn.

Speaker 7 (01:16:11):
My parting shot is watch out for the Detroit Tigers.
And we've been knowing this for a long time. First
team to win thirty games, first team to hit the
forty win mark, So it looks like it could be
a really, really fun time in the Old City tonight
the next weekend series at home. Hardly no tickets are

(01:16:31):
left the top one hundred and twenty thousand for the
Chicago Cubs Tigers series for three games at Comerica Park.

Speaker 2 (01:16:40):
Jacob, you got one real quick.

Speaker 6 (01:16:41):
Yeah well I didn't have that part real quick, but
let's just say this, that should be one heck of
a series.

Speaker 5 (01:16:48):
Well if you have one, yeah, real quick man. Detroit
Tigers nineteen eighty four, bless you boys. Is it going
to be one of those types of seasons again? And
just shout out to the city of Detroit and all
of the surrounding areas and the sports fandom up there,
because you guys have the Pistons, you have the Tigers,

(01:17:12):
and you have the Lions, all of course have been
in the playoffs within the last couple of years. So
I just love what's going on in Detroit sports sports
team goals.

Speaker 3 (01:17:22):
The only thing only the Red Wings join that plateau.

Speaker 1 (01:17:26):
The only thing I'm going to add to it is
this I haven't mentioned on the show. I mentioned it
really quickly since since Cecil Fielder made it, I just
want to say, once again, a rest in peace to
chat women. He personified the nineteen eighty four, Tigers like
no other I haven't mentioned on the show.

Speaker 2 (01:17:39):
I'm gonna mention it now and that's that. But that's that.

Speaker 1 (01:17:41):
I'm going to end the show on this note, and
I think hopefully a lot of people can empathize what's what.

Speaker 2 (01:17:45):
I'm going to say. I won't.

Speaker 1 (01:17:48):
I want to go out there and dedicate the show.
First of all, my step grandfather, Sidney Jacobs, who taught
me a lot about life and helped me get not
only my credit re established, but it filled in a
role with my one time grandfa with my great original
grandfather Sidney Morgan Roth, who died of cancer.

Speaker 2 (01:18:05):
Sady Jacobs, I'm thinking about you all the time. Rest
in peace.

Speaker 1 (01:18:08):
The one thing you left my grandmother when he died
was when he made the decision. You'll agree, but you'll
get over it. No, you don't get over anything. That
is very difficult to do. That said, the other one
will hate the show with John Francis. We started off
with you and we're going to add with you. So
rest in peace.

Speaker 6 (01:18:28):
John.

Speaker 1 (01:18:29):
I hope you're at peace with what you did. Your
legacy lives on and on. What can I say? We
had to start with Johnny, We're going to end with that.
And also, and the last thing I'll say about it is,
if you ever get into a situation called the National
Suicide Prevention Lin, if you need some way to talk
to that there for you and maybe Katie, we will
go ahead and go ahead on the tickers put that

(01:18:51):
up there as well in the future. Great first Gosh
episode of sports Trapped Ellie Apting, Why don't you everybody
know how they can go ahead get a hold of you.

Speaker 2 (01:18:59):
My friend. Yeah.

Speaker 5 (01:19:01):
Shake Bag Media group on Twitter says k B k
em d I A g r P. Also on YouTube,
the shake Bag Media Group Facebook, same thing. TikTok coach
Willie Facebook. Uh, what's missing my space? No, we don't
do my space anymore. Okay, I'm done.

Speaker 2 (01:19:20):
There you go, Taylor, go ahead put you up there now.

Speaker 3 (01:19:24):
