Hello, good evening, ladies and gentlemen.
Speaker 2 (01:46):
And we have Will Person. All right, well, glad to
have you on.
Speaker 1 (01:51):
Obviously, we have a series going with John with No
Limits talking about CTE, brain trum and so forth. Well,
won't you give the audience an overview of what you're
all about?
Speaker 6 (02:02):
Okay, yeah, yeah, I appreciate you guys having me here. Well,
my story is I was a Bob's Letter. Let's put
it this way. I was always a really fast guy,
but I wasn't fast enough to make the US Summer
Olympic team. Those guys are running nine when I'm only
running ten, you know. So it was a huge difference.
But I was way faster than the average Bobs Letter.
(02:23):
So I wound up finding putting roots down over there
and spending ten years, no nine years, I'm sorry. I
spent nine years with the US winning Olympic bobsled team.
So from nineteen ninety nine to around two thousand and
seven was my last race. And the truth is, like
a lot of my teammates or really was the sport
of Bob's letting and the injuries really linked up with football.
(02:45):
I had teammates that began to commit suicide. I was
at my lowest point as well. I got really really
sick from the symptoms, and thanks to football Joe Namath,
he helped me find my way back by using hyperberic oxygen.
I been on the journey just spreading the word. I
see these football players and our military guys just suffering
(03:06):
from the symptoms, and I.
Speaker 3 (03:07):
Trust my head to all the same ones they had.
Speaker 6 (03:10):
But it just took for me to get in a
hyperbertical oxygen thanks to Joe Namath, and it turned me around.
And so I'm just here spreading the word, just trying
to save as many many lives as I can. So
matter of fact, you guys might see my GoFundMe down there.
We're trying to raise money just to get the equipment
so I can keep treating football athletes, actually all the
athletes as well as the veterans for free, Like it
(03:31):
has to be a free service because it's so expensive. Guys,
Like when I went through it, somebody blessed me. They
let me go through the first two rounds of treatment
for free. It got rid of my cloudiness, my anxiousness,
the anxiety, the depression, everything just went away overnight. And
then next thing I know, I needed twenty five thousand
dollars to buy this machine for myself and I didn't
(03:52):
have it, but my dad stepped in and saved my button. Man.
Speaker 3 (03:55):
So I'm just trying to pay it forward.
Speaker 6 (03:58):
So I just really hope that by listening to football guys,
like they said, I think ninety percent of the brains
have been tested have that ct in it, and so
it makes sense. But nobody needs to suffer like that
because there's treatments out here, but no one's like I said,
they're not really talking about it.
Speaker 3 (04:15):
I found it by accident.
Speaker 1 (04:17):
Well, when people get done with this show, they're gonna
feel like CTE because I go faster than the pot food.
So if you don't understand that story.
Speaker 2 (04:24):
I believe me.
Speaker 1 (04:25):
I'm just kidding with you. But I do move fast.
That's what I do, and I have to. I have
to make a confession today. Okay, I'm not going on
Saturday the church to do it. I'm gonna do it
in front of a national audience. I did something that
you don't do in the kitchen. You don't throw a
hard boiled egg in the microphone for thirty seconds because
if you do, you'll pull the stupid thing up. Or yeah,
(04:47):
is that when I say yeah, you tell the story.
You don't put a hard boiled egg and a microwave
because who do you have? You have a hard boiled
egg that unfortunately makes the microwave dirty, and Candy has
to behind me.
Speaker 2 (05:00):
So there you go.
Speaker 1 (05:01):
People don't put a hard boiled egg and a microwaveleg
doors truly dead. I've been banned from the kitchen for
a nine million time. No other time she'll ever let
me go in there is and I want to get
pop or a mountain dew, and that's that day, coach. Otherwise,
stay out of the kitchen. You are not allowed to
go in there. Unless I had to do something with
a sixty second meal that doesn't require.
Speaker 2 (05:22):
A lot of thinking. Now that is.
Speaker 4 (05:27):
Okay, there you go.
Speaker 2 (05:28):
But can you put a regular egg in there? That's
a hard boiled egg, But can.
Speaker 3 (05:32):
You put a regular egg in there?
Speaker 6 (05:33):
Yes, I'm about to find out tonight.
Speaker 1 (05:38):
Thanks a lot, Thanks a lot. Yeah, but don't go
out there and expect cooking invite from me. I'm not
the guy that's gonna give it to you. I'll tell
you when I was in college, I put a grow
cheese sandwich in a microwave for four minutes and I
could have broken a triple plane window with that thing.
If you don't want if you want to get nail
for a salt and battery, just take a piece of wood,
(05:58):
put a growed cheese sandwich on top of you. Get
somebody in the head with a crochee sandwich, and guess
what you'll be over in the jail before you can
fast and turn your head. And if you want to
break a window, if that's okay, that four minutes five
minute grocheese will get it done.
Speaker 2 (06:11):
All right, that's enough.
Speaker 1 (06:12):
This is not a cooking show, although I'll be cooking
a lot of good content tonight. Oh I'll tell you. Well,
you saw me when I was just getting going. Now
you're gonna see me whatever.
Speaker 2 (06:20):
Really can't go.
Speaker 1 (06:22):
I'm glad everybody ended out there watching us. We have
a lot to get going here today. We're gonna start
off with a National Football League or no, maybe not.
Speaker 2 (06:31):
We're gonna start off and that I told you so
a moment because this really hurts.
Speaker 4 (06:36):
That mean this.
Speaker 1 (06:37):
Okay, let's talk about the USC Trojans. Then what they
did to the Michigan Wolverines. All they did was beat
them was at thirty eight to thirteen. Well, let me
set the stage for this football game. Okay, it was
a rematch of last year's close matchup. Okay, they were
a little light Michigan defense versus uses high power offense
(06:59):
will be a great matchup.
Speaker 2 (07:00):
Well, it didn't quite turn out that way. Okay.
Speaker 1 (07:03):
Their star wide receiver Mattaie Levin leads the power five
and receiving so far. I'm sure Marven I'll be moren't
happy to give us an update on that one. And
USC is one of the best offenses in college football,
led by Jayden Mayava. And if that isn't good enough,
USC leads a series six to five, but lost in
the Big owns last year, make it seven to five.
(07:25):
But that said Marvin, that's sure. But the only bright
spot that came out of that thing for the Michigan Wolverine,
by the way, was a guy by the name of
Andrew marsh He had a career high and then a
team high eight receptions for one hundred and thirty eight
yards of touchdown. Bryce Underwood primary target. Marvin take over
(07:45):
the narrative about what the Trojans just did.
Speaker 7 (07:47):
Yeah, so this was the biggest win in Lincoln Riley's career.
You know, he's been there for four years and when
he came into us, when he got to USC, he
was talking about making it the mecca college football. You know,
it was almost to Lebron's you know, three four five,
it was. It was something like that. That was the
energy he was given off. And you know he came
(08:08):
in in that first year, they had a run. Caleb
Williams did great, and you know, they didn't make the playoffs,
but they won eleven games. The next year, calebern is
the heisman, but we only won like seven or eight games,
and then last year it was subpar.
Speaker 3 (08:22):
And after all.
Speaker 7 (08:23):
The improvements, the nil money, the facilities, the all star coaching, staff.
You know, we've been waiting for a signature win because
we really haven't had it yet. Michigan is a team
who's highly respected in college football. They've been in the
playoffs in the last couple of years, they won a
championship a couple of years ago. So this is considered
to be a top ranked program, a real Big Ten powerhouse,
(08:45):
and we wanted to see if Lincoln Riley, you know,
can put together a team that could compete with that
caliber team. And not only did they compete, it was
almost a blowout. You know, we had two we had
two red zone turnovers that really changed the momentum in
the game. And throughout the entire game, USC was in control.
There was there was no point in that game where
used to where Michigan fans felt that they had a chance,
(09:08):
or that they had the momentum or this is about
to happen. That never happened. USC dominated on offense and defense.
Speaker 8 (09:15):
Uh.
Speaker 7 (09:15):
Michigan has a high powered run game, that's what they're
known for. USC shut them down. Uh, Michigan. I ended
up having less less than I want to say, less
than one hundred and fifty yards restaurant.
Speaker 2 (09:27):
I believe.
Speaker 3 (09:29):
There you go. You know where USC.
Speaker 7 (09:31):
Had almost five hundred yards four hundred and eighty nine
yards of offense. I mean listen, for Lincoln Rally. This
was huge at home. We had a packed house, We
had over one hundred recruits there and for Lincoln Rally.
In this program, you know, this is what USC fans
needed to see us being able to compete in prime
time on a national stage against a real opponent. And
(09:54):
as we know, there's there's another opponent coming up this
week with Notre Dame. But this was a huge win
for us, for our program, and it just lets us
know that at the midpoint of this season, you know,
we're in contention, we're relevant, We're still there. We're ranking
in a twenty right now, but after this win we
should shoot up there.
Speaker 3 (10:12):
Let go.
Speaker 2 (10:13):
So there's your what are your talks about the performance
so of Andrew.
Speaker 3 (10:16):
Marsh Yeah, freshman receiver. I'll tell you what.
Speaker 7 (10:20):
Michigan has a five star quarterback, Brush Underwood out of Detroit, Michigan.
This kid is promising. He's been averaging about two hundred
yards of game passing. The passing game hasn't been effective,
really hasn't. He hasn't really moved the Needle and the
game against US, they found a stud in the receiver
of marsh who actually had a good game prior to
the USC game, but against sc he blew up. He
(10:43):
had like over one hundred and fifty yards. Key plays
big plays even though the game was never really close.
He gave them hope. He gave them a little bit
of hope. So he's a spectacular player. And with six
games to go and for them maybe playoffs, I don't know,
you should see him continue to make place. Not like
Makayle Lemon, who you mentioned earlier. Mikayle Lemon right now
(11:06):
is probably the bleating the cough leader. Jade Mayava is
absolutely somebody who should be considered for the heisman. Right now,
Makayle Lemon is playing as good as any receiver who
has ever played at USC. When you watch and he's
a difference maker, he's a game changer. He's a receiver.
He's a six foot receiver. When he gets the ball,
(11:27):
he runs that ball like a high like a power
running back. This kid is dynamic, phenomenal hands, speed, quickness.
I mean, he'll make you missing a phone book, that's
who he is. But he's tough. You know, so he's
a phenomenal player. Watch out for him this week against
Notre Dame.
Speaker 1 (11:42):
Yeah, and keep in mind once again, the final score
was thirty one to thirteen in favor of the trophy.
They came out, they were team on a mission, and
they took their business quality win against a top tier opponent.
We'll see what happens, you know, with the wolver rings
and the Trojan's good rivalry. I guess that's one of
the reasons I'm glad that USC and uc LA joined
the Big ten lbit. Geographically, it doesn't make a lot
(12:02):
of sense, but you know, considering the direction for the
fact twelve Yes, following up on Land America, there you go,
all right, well, you know what, you're in southern California.
What do you think of that signature?
Speaker 6 (12:16):
When well, you know, actually one of my best friends
is a USC alumni, and he's in the film. He
was out of the film department, so I used to
go to a lot of the USC football games. He
got was a tailgated with tailgating and then we go
in and do the get them home tickets. But man,
you can usually tell when USC is gonna be good
(12:37):
that they have a certain swagger to them, and I
don't care what when they have early if they don't
have that same swaggers they had in the nineties, like,
they kind of usually fizzle out. And so I was
watching them this weekend with that game you're talking about,
and I think they're actually gonna probably do pretty good.
They gonna do pretty good. I shouldn't have to talk
my friend out off the last too much this year. Yeah,
(12:58):
but I know they lost that game. I forgot who
they were playing, Illinois, Illinois.
Speaker 3 (13:02):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (13:03):
Yeah, that's the kind of thing. You never know with us,
what's gonna show up. But usually when they really fired
on all cylinders, like that's certain. They just have a
certain level of swag and I'm starting to see that. So,
like they played Notre Dame next, is that it?
Speaker 3 (13:18):
Yeah, we're gonna beat No Dame Saturday. I was about
to ask you who, Yeah, what's the score? Thirty five
thirty four? Usc Okay.
Speaker 6 (13:29):
I think that they can shut Notre Dame down a
little bit better than that. I think they're gonna I
don't think Notre Dame is gonna score that much.
Speaker 7 (13:35):
They got a quarterback, they got two serious running backs.
They have a veteran offensive line. They do have playmaking receivers,
absolutely do.
Speaker 2 (13:44):
Uh.
Speaker 7 (13:44):
They spread it around. If you look at their distribution,
it's to the tight end the receivers in the backs
top four. So you know they got something. But so
the way, Yeah, what are they playing when they playing
at home? Or yeah, we're gonna beat them in Notre
Dame in South Bend.
Speaker 6 (13:58):
Oh yeah, that changed a little bit. I still hope
the UC pull this one out.
Speaker 3 (14:04):
Though it'll be seventy four degrees and clear.
Speaker 1 (14:07):
George, I think you've been pretty quiet over the whole thing,
your thoughts about what I WOULDMITI The USC also looks
like old time for all the wrong reasons.
Speaker 8 (14:14):
In the Road Bowl, Well, yeah, I'm very disappointed with
Michigan's performance. They got their head coach back after his suspension.
He took the team out there an extra day early
to try to acclimate it to the time change. You know,
he kept I think Bryce Underwood under wraps too long,
(14:35):
and not only him, but in the other games too.
This year, they're very slow in letting Bryce sort of
run the offense. I know he's brand new, obviously a freshman,
but he did pretty well. Fifteen out of twenty four
two hundred and seven yards. He averaged eight point six
every throw, two touchdowns, one intercept, and then like you
(14:55):
were saying, Scott, I mean the kid just oh the
what a great Andrew Marshad.
Speaker 3 (15:01):
But it wasn't enough.
Speaker 8 (15:03):
And like my friend here said from USC, you know,
one hundred and nine yards that's not going to cut it. Okay,
U have m You allowed Trojans two hundred and twenty
four yards rushing and you only had one hundred and nine.
That is not a Michigan typical game plan. However, however,
they did have more yards receiving, but it still didn't matter.
(15:24):
I mean, defensively, they couldn't stop USC and they're paying
the price right now, you know. So it's just something
that you know, you knew these things were going to happen. Okay,
when the Big ten expanded, you were getting some very
very prestigious and name programs like you mentioned Scott, USC, UCLA, Oregon, Washington.
(15:47):
You know, this is something that the Big ten, of
the Big ten traditional teams universities, if you will, they
knew this kind of thing was going to happen because
of the time change, the talent level, the recruiting. Oh,
the West Coast offense, whatever you want to call it, Well,
my hat's off. I'm disappointed at the U of M,
but my hats are off to the Trojans because you
(16:08):
you whipped us pretty good.
Speaker 3 (16:09):
Man.
Speaker 1 (16:10):
I can't We have a lot to get to the
night here on the Sports and Chade, we're just getting started,
but I had to go with this one. Candy or
you're thoughts about what took place with Michigan USC.
Speaker 4 (16:19):
USC's defense came to play and the reason why I
know that is Michigan on third downs were two of nine.
On fourth down zero of two. You're not gonna win games,
you know, going two of eleven on third or fourth
downs like that's just not gonna happen. That also tells
me that you were probably I will admit I did
(16:42):
not see the game, but I'm guessing that on first
and second down USC was holding them to very few yards.
So their third downs were like third and five or
third and four, and so it makes it harder, and
especially if the USC is really defend the rush and
not allowing a lot of rush yards, that means now
(17:03):
all of a sudden, you're trying to pass and you're
trying to throw and if your guys aren't open. But
that's why Marsh got I mean he was only he
was only targeted nine times. If you think about that,
eight receptions for one hundred and thirty eight yards. So
he did well. But that means enough of the other
team wasn't whether it was USC blocking getting in the
(17:24):
way forcing. USC also had three sacks, so that makes
a difference too. You know, kudos to USC for beating
a very quality opponent in Michigan. And as a Badger fan,
that pains me to say that. So but this whole
(17:44):
season pains me as a Badger fan right now.
Speaker 2 (17:46):
So I'll oh, don't worry.
Speaker 1 (17:49):
I got some good stuff for you now that you
just said that for next week, Candy.
Speaker 2 (17:52):
It marked my word. Now you really put your Now,
you're really setting me up for what's going to happen.
Speaker 1 (17:56):
Oh goodness, watch out Candy for next week because of
what you just said.
Speaker 2 (18:00):
So here's my take on it. Real quick.
Speaker 1 (18:02):
I recorded the game, Okay, went covered FAU against UAB
Okay saw the score, didn't like it when I saw
it ended up the way I did. Didn't matter, Hoseland.
I saw FAU football defeat UAV players that worked out
out to be Trent till first final football game period.
So if you don't like what you see, hit delete
(18:25):
and you're done. Just like I'm no longer going to
talk about this topic. That we have a whole lot more.
We're going to National Football League people. That the Buffalo
Bills are the first team to overcome a fifteenth plus
point deficit in the final four minutes and went in
a game thanks to Josh Allen. But so far that
seems to be the high point of the season because
(18:46):
they are on a two.
Speaker 2 (18:47):
Game losing streak. Marvin, I'll tell you one thing.
Speaker 1 (18:50):
You can put yourself in the record books for a
certain reason. But now you have a two game losing
streak and everybody's questioning any So we're here talks about
the Buffalo Bills.
Speaker 7 (19:00):
Yeah, listen, you play seventeen games. This is a long season.
The season is like five months long. Okay, you're gonna
lose games. There are no easy games on an NFL schedule.
It is any given Sunday. Okay, I do fantasy football.
I do these knockout pulls. It is impossible to pick
who's gonna win a game straight up on who's not,
(19:20):
you know, because even the worst team has high caliber players,
even the worst team has first round draft picks. The
worst team in football will beat a good team any Sunday.
We see it happen all the time, you know what
I mean. So I'm not surprised that they have als.
I mean, the Bills may end up, you know, eleven
and six, that's good, and they still win the playoffs.
(19:40):
They have arguably the best quarterback in football right now.
And when you have the best quarterback in football, you're
in every single game, every it doesn't matter. Nothing else
really matters. I mean, and it does. But if you
have the best quarterback, then you have something that's very special.
In an NFL offense where the quarterback is everything, they
have an MVP.
Speaker 3 (19:58):
Josh.
Speaker 7 (19:59):
Josh is looking at another MVP season. His team is
gonna be in the playoffs. His team, you know, as
we get into the second and third parts of the season,
his team will going to continue to win games, and
they'll probably get beat again. But again, you're looking at
maybe eleven and six, you know that that's realistic. It
could be could be twelve and five, you know, but
(20:20):
still they'll go to the playoffs. I'm not worried about
the Bills at all. I'm a Jet fan, trust me,
the Bills have nothing to worry about. The Jets ain't
beating the Bills no time soon, all right, So that
that's a win right there for you. But Josh Allen
and the Buffalo Bills are a top organization. They have
they have one of the best players in the game,
and that makes im relevant in every game him, Katie.
Speaker 4 (20:43):
The Buffalo Bills are four into They beat the Ravens,
the Jets, the Dolphins, and the Saints. Now they lost
to the Patriots twenty three twenty but the Patriots are
an up and coming team with a new coach, which
is an old coach. But Mike Rabels got those Patriots
playing pretty good ball. Then you go in and you
(21:04):
have to play Atlanta, and yeah, that's where they didn't
do as well. But Atlanta's three and two. They're not that.
Like Marvin said, any given team, on any given Sunday,
I would say this year, I feel that there is
more parody in amongst all the teams than there ever
has been. I mean, look at the Eagles have lost games,
(21:27):
the Chiefs have lost how many games, and you would
have thought the Lions have lost a couple of games
like those are the teams that you thought coming in
would be at the top, and they have losses. It's
a long season. You play, how many get you play
seventeen games, You're bound to lose a couple here and there.
Not everybody can be on their a game every given Sunday.
Speaker 3 (21:51):
So what are you saying is Baltimore is making a comeback?
Speaker 2 (21:54):
Yeah, Baltimore.
Speaker 3 (21:59):
Because Marvin, if you got a great quarterback, you.
Speaker 4 (22:01):
Know, yeah, yeah, but yeah, but their quarterback is a
little injured, a little banged up right now.
Speaker 1 (22:07):
Yeah, all right, So with that said, go ahead, Well
what are your thoughts about what's going on here with
the Bills? I got plenty more stuff to get there.
We're just getting warmed up here.
Speaker 3 (22:15):
Go ahead, Well, Bills are a tough team.
Speaker 6 (22:17):
Matter of fact, this probably is not even relevant, but
after when I was still running track, they came out
and worked me out one time, invited me to camp
years ago.
Speaker 2 (22:25):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (22:25):
Yeah, but I was a four two, three forty guys,
so that's why I didn't have no special football skills
or anything.
Speaker 3 (22:31):
But yeah, I do, like I do love the Bills.
Speaker 6 (22:34):
But man, it's it's tough, Like over the last two seasons,
Like usually there's teams you know are gonna lose, you're
gonna your team's gonna play them and they and they're
gonna win. But the NFL has changed over the last
two years. Like it's like you just never know who's
actually gonna win these games. Like you could throw all
the stats out there and all the people who on
(22:54):
there and the contracts, who's got the who's spending the
most money on players, and it means absolutely nothing. So
I don't know, man, it's just uh, I'm just actually
starting to enjoy it again because for a long time
because of my my like I get those migrants from
the concussions and stuff, so it's kind of hard.
Speaker 3 (23:11):
Sometimes it's hard for you to watch the game.
Speaker 6 (23:13):
But the last two years I've been able to watch
since I actually once against since I've been getting treatment,
you know, and so it's it's just been first of all,
it's nice to watch a game and you don't already
know who's gonna win, right, Why do you watch that game?
Speaker 3 (23:26):
You know?
Speaker 6 (23:26):
Yeah, So no, I'm just excited about the season, like
and just being able to enjoy it again. And uh, actually,
I'm I'm happy to be here. I appreciate you guys
having me on here, But next time I'm gonna pick
I'm picking out stats. I mean, you're not gonna be
stacked me to death with it. I'm gonna beat you
on them stats.
Speaker 1 (23:42):
Let me tell you something I didn't prepare for this, man,
nobody this show.
Speaker 2 (23:47):
Don't give up like I do anywhere else.
Speaker 1 (23:50):
But you know what, you're making a good audition there
where you might become a regular on this program.
Speaker 2 (23:55):
How do you like that.
Speaker 1 (23:56):
I'll put you on with a double hitter brother and
you'll be on too, and both of them.
Speaker 2 (24:00):
Can you handle it? Handle it?
Speaker 1 (24:03):
Boy, Marvin, you got a new teammate back in so
call they will person at George Ichord's watching it, and
George Iicord gets the last word on the Buffalo Bills,
although I'll slip one in the first.
Speaker 2 (24:13):
Okay, tell you one thing.
Speaker 1 (24:16):
You come from fourteen point line, yes, seventeen game season,
but this league humbles you pretty quick. That's all I
have to say. With the Ichord and I have some
different stuff. Well, you're gonna get the field of the show.
This is a show that's hard for a lot of
people to make because I do so much off the wall,
gun flinging stuff that nobody can handle it. But I
don't feel you're gonna do all right. You won't find
yourself a regular on this program. Brother, keep it up.
(24:37):
I only have another ten to twelve more topics to
get to and only about ninety minutes.
Speaker 2 (24:41):
To get you up. But that's okay, all right, go ahead, George.
Speaker 8 (24:45):
Well, you know the stats that I look at, it
obviously are some of the same ones as you guys
looked at. But anytime Josh Allen has only one hundred
and eighty yards passing, Josh Allen, two interceptions, sacked four times,
in a horrible back rating.
Speaker 5 (25:01):
They're not gonna win.
Speaker 8 (25:02):
And you know, credit give credit where it's due the
Falcons defense, and of course Pennix did a great job
at quarterback. I'll go back to those two stats that
my friend Candy said, third down efficiency two for nine
for Buffalo, zero for one fourth down, so two for ten,
very similar to what you unveiled earlier in our discussion. Candy,
(25:25):
that you're not gonna win games like that. But I
do agree that it is a long season and Atlanta
is playing better than previous years up to now. So
it's a long season. They will be there, the Bills,
but that was not one of their better performances, even though,
like you said, Scott, they did rally from being down.
I give them credit for that, but then things just
(25:46):
kind of dissipated after that. So Buffalo will be in
the playoffs, but so will Atlanta.
Speaker 1 (25:52):
All right, well, let's continue on here. Let's go back
to let's talk about money paying for games. We're gonna
go back a little bit to the NBA playoffs. Why
do I say this because money talks no matter whenever
you want to talk about it. But get this, and
Nicks and the Celtics had a Game three playoff game
where the tickets are going anywhere between eight hundred dollars
(26:14):
of fifty four grand, the most expensive Knixt home game ever.
Who is the right mind would pay for tickets that much?
I don't know, Marvel, what do you think about eight
hundred to fifty four grand over at Madison Square Garden?
The most expensive game ever?
Speaker 3 (26:28):
And this is against the Celtics.
Speaker 2 (26:31):
Yeah, game three?
Speaker 3 (26:32):
Yeah, listen. I grew up.
Speaker 7 (26:33):
I grew up in LA and New York, and in
my time in New York. I can tell you those
people let them next boy lay Letos Knicks.
Speaker 3 (26:42):
People in New York got bred to spend.
Speaker 7 (26:44):
You got Wall Street, a lot of businesses out there, CEOs,
a lot of you know, titans of industry live out
there in New York. So the reality is the same
people who are spending that kind of money for the
Knicks are buying those tickets for the Yankees that are
right behind the home play. They'll trust me, they can
build the stadium in Madsion Square Garden whenever they want to.
There there's no shortage of New Yorkers willing to make
(27:06):
that investment.
Speaker 8 (27:08):
Uh.
Speaker 7 (27:08):
I mean, there's sports, family religion in America that are
like all the same level. Whether it's right or wrong.
People love their sports teams as much as they love
you know, their God and their and their brother. Uh.
Speaker 3 (27:19):
It is what it is.
Speaker 7 (27:20):
There's no we're passionate about We're passionate about sports and
you say that with our money. So yeah, it doesn't
surprise me. It's it's crazy when you think about, you know,
just the average family who want to go see a game.
That's that's bananas. But but it is what it is.
You know, only in America.
Speaker 2 (27:39):
Keep using that all right, Well, go ahead.
Speaker 6 (27:44):
Uh, I'm still baffled at these guys are spending that
much money at the tickets, like really, like I just
couldn't imagine how I'm just blown away.
Speaker 3 (27:55):
I'm speechless right now. Guys, just please forgive me.
Speaker 2 (27:59):
That one.
Speaker 1 (28:00):
You don't have to feel too bad for this one,
because a lot of normal people would.
Speaker 6 (28:03):
Be well, NFL wasn't wasn't good to me. You know,
growing up, I was a Cardinals.
Speaker 3 (28:09):
Fan my whole life.
Speaker 6 (28:12):
You know, they probably went to the playoffs twice in
my whole life, maybe three times. So like I grew
up in the same neighborhood that they were my This
is how old I am dating myself. My brother was
a paper boy, so we delivered the newspapers to them.
Yeah this was back in the you know, seventies, so yeah,
so yeah, they were always good to us. And so
(28:32):
now I don't cry houd they were doing good doing bad.
I've been the Fances even when they went to Phoenix.
I wind up. Actually, I used to run a camp
and I used to come and train with me some
of them. But I've always been just a fan of
the Cardinals since I was a kid, like I understand
how you can you have so man, these people like
they get so upset because their teams are losing. Like man,
(28:52):
I just still support them, my love and my support
them because they treated me like a human being when
I was like five years old.
Speaker 3 (28:59):
You know.
Speaker 1 (29:00):
Yeah, okay, George II coord you and I are too cheap.
We don't spend that kind of.
Speaker 8 (29:06):
I we we were in Indianapolis and h we know
that story it Scott about getting tickets for Pacers.
Speaker 5 (29:12):
In the playoffs.
Speaker 2 (29:13):
But that kind of money.
Speaker 5 (29:15):
No, no, never.
Speaker 2 (29:16):
That wait until tip off and we got them right
and you didn't negotiate idead but keep you get keep going.
Speaker 5 (29:23):
Yeah.
Speaker 8 (29:23):
So the Knicks uh in Boston, two of the premier
franchises of course in the NBA, not so much the
Knicks of late but the but the tradition between those
two teams. Doesn't surprise me that tickets are that much,
really because like you said earlier, Marvin, I mean you
got a lot of wealthy people there in New York.
Boston's fans are unbelievably excited the last several years as
(29:48):
they won the championship the Celtics and sellout games always
at the New Boston Garden. I really think that what
you guys have said is true. They're squeezing out the
average fan. They're squeezing out the families to go to
the games, and that part is sad for me. That's
a that's a no no for me. H, Candy, Let's
(30:10):
face it.
Speaker 4 (30:11):
I mean, it's not cheap to go to any sporting
event these days. While most of them there are a
couple that are you know, reasonable, but that is just ridiculous.
Those kind of prices is for the NDL, for the
National Drama League, but from I don't know, but there
(30:34):
are two those are also two teams that don't like
each other, and there's because there's fan bases are so
close together that that probably the supply and demand drove
that price up. You know, It's not like they were playing.
Speaker 8 (30:50):
Well.
Speaker 4 (30:51):
I mean like there's a lot of other teams from
the other coast that maybe they wouldn't have gotten the
same you know, like even if you're putting in like
the Bulls or the Timberwolves against the Boston you're not
gonna have the same supply and demand in the price
of the ticket. It's a marquee matchup for that fan base.
(31:13):
That's what's gonna drive just like that, Just like a
ticket if you were going to go to Michigan versus
Ohio State, like that ticket price is gonna be driven
up because it's a rivalry between the two schools.
Speaker 1 (31:27):
All right, let's stay with the NBA. Pacer president Kevin
Pritchard confirms that Tyrese Haliburton will miss the entire twenty
five twenty six season. Some thoughts Marvin about the fact
that the Pacers aren't going to have this guy.
Speaker 7 (31:43):
Yeah, you know, in basketball, you don't play five guys.
So when you lose a guy of his caliber, I mean,
he's a big part of their salary, cap, all Star Olympian,
a guy who's really evolved. That hurts them. That hurt
he's their best player. I mean, I said, you know,
he's one of their guys so that they really count
on and lean on. And you know, I don't I
(32:05):
don't follow the Patiers, but I know then because of him,
they've been in the playoffs obviously, and uh, I watched
the Olympics, but that's tremendous. That's a tremendous loss in
sports as competitive as it is, you know, it's all
a game adventures every sport, So when you lose a
player like that, it's tough to make that up, you know,
And so they put the team together based on you know,
(32:27):
their all star players. So you know, again, to lose
a guy who you've built around, who you build around,
is significant. And there's a lot of a lot of
people out there playing basketball. You just saw Russell Westbrook
get picked up. I'm sure they'll, you know, they're they
bring somebody in. But again, that's a significant loss and
it'd be tough for them to overcome that, I believe.
Speaker 1 (32:48):
Yeah, we'll talk about Russell Westbrook more on the sports
and saying thanks Wednesday night, so stay with us. That'll
be one of our primary topics. Well, some thoughts about
Tyrese Alibert. I don't know how much you follow up Pacers.
If you don't, I don't know.
Speaker 3 (33:02):
When it was playoffs start.
Speaker 6 (33:03):
I make sure I followed, like just for me, I
kind of cheat, like Michael Jordan brought me to the
game and when he left, I left the game. Lebron, Yeah,
when he was playing, I found him by accident. That's
how help you know. Plus, you a track athlete, our
workouts are.
Speaker 3 (33:20):
So grueling and bruling.
Speaker 6 (33:21):
Like there's like six days a week, so we don't
really get time to really watch those kind of games.
But the truth is, like, yeah, Lebron brought me back
to the NBA, you know, And so now I've just
been trying to just enjoy all these young players. Man,
they're doing so many fabulous things, and I love how
they clean the sport up, Like like I just to
hate watching it and you see some guy get closed line,
(33:44):
you know, like you're playing basketball. Why is this guy
getting closed line? Why is he laying on the floor.
You know, that's a whole lot of money they taken
away from these players and from the franchises. But it
was something I was about to take. Which player was it?
Speaker 3 (33:56):
Uh ah?
Speaker 6 (33:59):
Man, I forgot. Don't know who's gonna place that guy
on those a lot of big shoes. I'm pretty sure
Indiana's going to be struggling this year. That's what that's
gonna boil down to, all right.
Speaker 8 (34:09):
George, Yeah, that is a huge blow, no question about it.
Missing the whole season covering from surgery right achilles tendon.
You're taking nineteen twenty points away every night, You're taking
about four or five rebounds whatever in nine or ten assists.
I mean, you know this, this, these those kind of
stats really really stand out. Obviously, he's a very gifted
(34:32):
as athlete. Twenty five years old. He's done a terrific
job with the Pacers, and you know, the Pacers have
had good teams as we know, the last several years.
So this kind of puts up question mark, no question
about it. Pardon the punt on the season, because they're
gonna have their hands full trying to come up with
a lineup that replaces this guy. An All Star and
(34:53):
obviously a great player.
Speaker 2 (34:55):
That heart.
Speaker 3 (34:56):
Man can't replace that.
Speaker 5 (34:57):
Heart, No, you can't. He has a have a heart,
of course, but yeah, a great heart.
Speaker 2 (35:03):
Candy.
Speaker 4 (35:05):
In the NBA Draft in twenty twenty, he was the
first went in the first round with a twelve pick overall.
He is actually from If you guys didn't know this,
he was actually born in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. He is from Wisconsin,
Yes he is. He is two times NBA All SAR,
(35:27):
two time NBA Third Team, NBA All Rookie, First Team,
NBA Assists Leader for twenty twenty four, second team All
Big Twelve back in twenty twenty, he they are gonna
miss him tremendously. He was that team and he was
the heart of that team, So trying to replace that
(35:50):
is very difficult. Like Marvin said, they only put five
on the court, So when you're missing one of your
top guys, then obviously it's the next man up mentality,
But normally the talent level drops quite a bit. So well,
it'll be interesting to see what Indiana who they have
(36:14):
to step into his shoes for this year, because those
are big shoes to fill.
Speaker 1 (36:20):
I'll say one thing, Rick Carlisle as a coach, and
anybody can get around this problem, he will. We have
all actually Giraffe Miami. Heroll for the life. I guess
we know that what paper he likes to read.
Speaker 3 (36:29):
So there you go.
Speaker 1 (36:30):
So with that said, let's continue on George. We'll talk
about more guards in the NBA life without Dennis Schroeder
and Detroit. He's often the Sacramento Kings signed a two year,
twenty eight million deal with the Kings, So let's.
Speaker 2 (36:43):
Talk about.
Speaker 1 (36:46):
You know, and Michael Concisio, glad to have you on.
I'm looking forward to coming on your show and spreading
the Withdom. Don't worry, Michael we have a phone call soon.
Just let me know when you get your phone straight.
We're gonna make that happen. Another NBA expert, Marron get
used to, we're gonna be found in the NBA. R Michael,
let me know when you get your phone straight. And
also please come in on YouTube as well, and that
would be good. But I'm glad you popped in. Thank
(37:07):
you very much. But you can contribute in the chat
room with the topics. But it's not a matter of
if it's a matter of one, and it may be
certainly new. Think George, Dennis Schroeder, Detroit, how much will
the miss him? You get twenty eight million dollars, he's
going to be in one play for a little while.
Sacramento a team on the upright, Go ahead, George.
Speaker 8 (37:23):
Well, yeah, I do not like the fact that he
was not retained. I mean he I think he played
around thirty games regular season for them. He had a
nice average almost eleven points per game, and he was
a very very good player off the bench for Bickerstaff
and the Pistons last year. But as it happens in
(37:45):
all of sports, and especially when you start forming your roster,
it's impossible to keep everybody for their assigned and sealed
for all those consecutive years. So you're going to see
some fluctuation, especially in the second half of the second unit.
I call it not the starting five, but perhaps you
will there too. Schroeder was a good ballplayer, good ball player.
Speaker 5 (38:06):
I liked him. He's a good shooter. But you know what,
they went out and got a.
Speaker 8 (38:10):
Couple other guys, you know, and LeVert and Duncan Robinson,
so we'll see what happens. Pistons are losing a little
bit of their depth and that does concern me. Scott,
and if there was a way, I wish they would
have would have kept Schroeder.
Speaker 1 (38:24):
To be honest with you, well, it's okay if I
hold on you first, you're the one who obviously covers
the Piston. The Detroit Pistons have been great for me
over the years, so I always have a special place
and I have a like you, I have a piece
of their floor in my hallway, commemoring the bad Boys
era and going back to Matt Golbeck and obviously Bill Wickett,
(38:44):
and then of course they have Kevin greg I think, yes,
those people have always been great to me so well obviously,
you know, do you follow the Pistons much? Dennis Schroeder
is a good player, he really is.
Speaker 6 (38:55):
Well, I had a guy I used to train, Kevin
Knox Senior playing there, Kevin Knox Junior. I know he
was with Detroit for a little bit.
Speaker 5 (39:04):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (39:04):
Yeah, So I followed him for a little bit when
he was with him, But after that then once they
got rid of him, I believe haven't followed him too much.
Speaker 2 (39:12):
All right, no big deal, that's fair enough, Candy.
Speaker 4 (39:15):
You know he's actually he was born in Germany and
he played over there for a little while. Uh, but
you know he was drafted in the NBA first round,
seventeenth pick overall.
Speaker 8 (39:33):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (39:34):
He's played with a number of different teams here. He
also is he was he was most improved player back
in the day. So Detroit didn't have him long. But yes,
anytime you take somebody that's been around the league for
a while, they they're a proven player and they have
(39:56):
a veteran they're a veteran presence that you're gonna miss.
Stat important Marvin.
Speaker 3 (40:04):
Yeah, Kenny hit it on the head.
Speaker 7 (40:06):
I was gonna lead to with he's a veteran player,
he's a tough player, gritty player, physical player, a guy
who's not afraid to mix it up. You need that
kind of guy on a team. So, you know, in
a league full of good players, where good players get
cut all the time. I mean, if he wants to
just like Russ, I mean he'll he'll, he'll be somewhere soon.
But he he is a player who has it, who
(40:27):
can impact the game. I enjoyed watching. I think he
was with the Lakers, played well with Lebron and he's
the real deal.
Speaker 3 (40:37):
I'm sorry I did he come from.
Speaker 6 (40:39):
I know he played in Germany, but he wasn't a
resident there was he military baby or.
Speaker 7 (40:45):
I think, well, now I think he's German. I think
he's just Yeah, he's the.
Speaker 4 (40:49):
Sole owner of his German German hometown team basketball Loewen
Brushwig of the Basketball bush linga whatever, and he's the
majority own the team since twenty eighteen.
Speaker 5 (41:02):
Wow, good for him.
Speaker 2 (41:04):
Yeah, well, I'll just say one thing.
Speaker 1 (41:05):
I'm glad the guy got paid and he hit twenty
eight million dollars in a good job and pistons in
the postseasons. Oh, we're gonna go to our first nons
for topic of the night. I know Marvin loves these.
Oh my god, what.
Speaker 2 (41:19):
I'll tell you.
Speaker 3 (41:20):
I don't want to go to cancel Scott. I don't
want to get you canceled. Man.
Speaker 1 (41:23):
You know I always gotta cancel me. Man, Not over
this topic. I could see other ones they might attempt you,
but not over this one.
Speaker 2 (41:30):
I don't know. I'll want you be the judge of that. Marven.
Speaker 1 (41:31):
You're gonna be my agent when it comes to that stuff.
I love having guys like you as an agent. And
of course we'll have a lot of good attorneys dealing
with them with all this brain injury stuff that I
may have.
Speaker 7 (41:40):
Now, I went to law school thinking I was gonna
be an agent, and that did that was That's not
I wasn't it for me.
Speaker 1 (41:47):
Don't worry after your first tacto. Way you handled that
first topic, this will be easier. That will be other
ones than are, but not this one. All right, and well,
was gonna find out our first.
Speaker 2 (41:55):
Notch for topic of the night? You ready? There we go?
Speaker 1 (42:00):
Or Texas is banned China, Russia, Iran in North Korea
from buying land and the state people. They have banned
from buying land in the state. Why because here's what
they're looking to do with the law aiming to protect
Texas security and businesses.
Speaker 2 (42:20):
Homes, farms, land used for mining and water.
Speaker 1 (42:24):
Marvin, Texas is trying to make sure that they got
to protect their interests.
Speaker 3 (42:28):
You like that idea, I listen, I'm with that completely.
Speaker 2 (42:31):
I don't.
Speaker 7 (42:32):
I don't understand why we're allowing these other countries to
buy land, farmland, you know, get get any kind of
minerals or precious stones. Why would we want them to
come do that? Why would we allow them to come
do that? That's insane to me, and even from a
national security standpoint, it doesn't make sense. You know, we
shouldn't allow Listen, I'm not for really allowing any other
(42:53):
country to come set up shop and take advantage of
our natural resources here.
Speaker 3 (42:58):
I don't know why it's even allowed to be with you.
Speaker 7 (43:01):
To me, it's just a threat, especially in this day
and age of technology, and you know Espionade, and I
mean it's real.
Speaker 3 (43:08):
That stuff is real. It's not just on Netflix. That's real.
Speaker 7 (43:11):
That's this stuff happens, you know. So yeah, I don't
pudo Listen. I'm not I'm not a fan of the
guy who's running Texas, but I get it, and I'm
with and I'm with them on that, all right.
Speaker 6 (43:24):
Well they will, oh man, I'll tell you what. I
agree with that one hundred percent, and uh, I'll take
it even a step further. There was times where I
tried to buy a house. It was like twenty twelve
or something. It was after that housing market crash. I went,
I made a full price offer on a home and
I didn't get it, and I found out later they
(43:45):
sold it to a company for cheaper than the price
that I offer for it. And so there's these companies
that's coming through these cities and they're buying two or
three thousand dollars two or three thousand houses at a
time with the spipe of a pen, which is causing
the rental prices to go up all through the country
because they're now controlling the all of the surplus of houses.
So I agree with that one hundred percent, but they
(44:08):
should go a step further and stop these companies from
buying up all the real estate.
Speaker 5 (44:12):
Okay, George, Yeah, it's hard to not support that.
Speaker 8 (44:18):
Governor Abbott, and of course the Texas legislature whoever worked
on this proposal, and you guys bring up an excellent point.
Speaker 5 (44:26):
I mean, when you know it's one.
Speaker 8 (44:29):
Thing to be an open country, open borders and open
business if you will open we're open for business, as
it's saying used to be. But when you're taking it
too far and then you're gouging people. You're gouging the Americans,
our own country, our own citizens, and things like this
are happening, and you're driving prices up. Like you mentioned,
those things, I will not accept. And I and I
(44:50):
know they're targeting these five so called nations, but I'm
sure there's many many other ones too that are trying
to make cheap land deals or underhanded deals, or control
our minerals and resources. So no, I I I definitely
don't want that. So I'm in agreement also on this one, Scott.
Speaker 4 (45:10):
The ban applies to governments, companies, and individuals domiciled in
the listed countries, So it bans entities from China, Russia, Iran,
North Korea, and other governor designated hostile foreign adversaries. The
(45:31):
restrictions do not apply to US citizens or lawful permanent
residents Green card holders, regardless of their country of origin. Now,
I will say that it is there, they are fighting it.
There's it's facing legal challenges, and there's they're also facing
(45:51):
a similar law passed in Florida and is also facing
legal challenges. But yes, I am opposed to foreign countries,
foreign even foreign businesses owning land here. One of the
(46:12):
one of the problems that they're the legal is facing
is they think it's gonna could lead to wide spread
racial profiling. So it just has to be careful. There
is just some legal issues. They got to figure it out.
But if you're here legally, you should be able to
(46:33):
buy here, you know, but if you're not then you shouldn't.
And if you're not living here, you shouldn't own land here.
You can buy companies and stuff like that, but you
can't own the land here. That that I just I oppose.
Speaker 3 (46:50):
Oh I got another one for you, if you don't mind,
go ahead. Yeah.
Speaker 6 (46:54):
Actually, when I first moved to La out I remember
I wanted this porsch.
Speaker 3 (46:59):
I had to have it. Had just had to have one.
Speaker 6 (47:01):
I found one, right, So, my poorch guy, he was
teaching me a lot of the tricks of the trade
around here and what they were doing. The students were
coming in from other countries. They can bring all the
cash they can bring with them so they can they'll
buy up all the houses, the cars. You know, these
are students at usc UCLA around here right around with Lamborghinis,
you know. But that's the way that they get the
(47:22):
money into the country. So they really got to stop
it over there, you know they you know, because that's
really the money larder's coming from the students coming from school.
Speaker 3 (47:30):
That's the truth of it. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (47:31):
Great, So going to can't you go to Michael Concishow's comment, Chervan,
I really liked this one.
Speaker 4 (47:35):
Breed at Please quiet as kep. Let's take care of us,
then look out for others. Imagine if we all as
USA citizens can thrive, how powerful we would be as
a nation.
Speaker 2 (47:48):
I mean, no bull Eye conci show.
Speaker 1 (47:51):
Just let me know privately if your cell phone fixed,
you got it all figured out. I'm gold hairs and
have you on in approximately two weeks. Okay, we'll go
from there. Keep it up in the chat room, Michael.
We appreciate your participation. It's unanimous all the way around.
I'm on board with the rest of the group here.
All right, one more topic. We're gonna go to a
station break shortly. We have a lot more to get
(48:11):
to here on the Sports Exchange, newport The new Portland
WNBA team's name has been revealed. The Portland Fire, the
league's fifteenth team, will revive the name of the original
Portland Fire, honoring the franchise that played from two thousand
to two thousand and two. It does make sense. Think
about it, everybody. They have the Portland Timbers, and you
(48:33):
all know that fire and would go together. Marve all right,
well here, you know, you lead off with it, then
we'll go to Marvin. How do you like that analogy?
Speaker 6 (48:43):
Well, boo, come, I was actually about to say, you
know what, that could be a lot more creative than that.
And then when you said the original team with the Fire,
and I backed off. Well, sorry, now that you I'm back,
I'll take that.
Speaker 1 (48:56):
I don't care. All right, you got fire and timber.
Now that you stepped up, you get to talk about
first time. I'm going to Marburn.
Speaker 3 (49:01):
You see what you see?
Speaker 6 (49:02):
All these forest fires we have here in la We
you know, fireing timbers. It's just a bad topic around here.
Taboo taboo.
Speaker 2 (49:09):
Yeah, well we're in Portland, man.
Speaker 1 (49:11):
For you, I'm talking about like fire, We're talking Portland.
We're talking about the name of a team. Will get
used to be talking this low because.
Speaker 2 (49:19):
I do it out here. I get to be a
nice guy to your show because I've.
Speaker 3 (49:22):
Sent it in this CT.
Speaker 1 (49:24):
I have CT okay in a different way. Okay, and
I think it's a three ways of ways to describe it.
Speaker 6 (49:32):
They're gonna come up with it. We're gonna come up
with a better name. Is get a petition going and
we're gonna change that name. How about that?
Speaker 2 (49:37):
All right?
Speaker 1 (49:38):
But meanwhile, stay out point with the topic. You like
Portland Fire? Do you like the Portland Timbers? No, this
ain't the La fire Man. We're going up to the
Pacific Northwest.
Speaker 6 (49:54):
You don't like It's the Bigfoot, the bigfoots, bigfoot, a
lot of bigfoots, satas watches and stuff.
Speaker 3 (50:00):
We're up there the Bigfoots.
Speaker 2 (50:02):
What are they telling you to move there?
Speaker 3 (50:05):
No, they got a new name name, you know.
Speaker 1 (50:07):
But you got big mouth talking to you?
Speaker 2 (50:11):
Got me? I'm big mouth, motor mouth man. I'm loving it.
I love this group.
Speaker 1 (50:16):
Oh you don't like to name Portland Fire?
Speaker 2 (50:20):
That's for me.
Speaker 3 (50:21):
He's still talking to me. I already blocked that one out.
Speaker 2 (50:26):
I don't.
Speaker 1 (50:28):
Obviously he don't like it all right, marvel anything. Listen,
this guy got personality.
Speaker 2 (50:32):
I like it. That's coming back on here.
Speaker 7 (50:34):
If this was the original team name, then I get it.
They probably have a small following they want to reconnect to.
Smart for marking the reasons. Listen, this is great for
the w NBA. It's a testament to their growth right now.
I mean, even though they've been in in existence for
over twenty years, you know, they're still in their infancy.
You know, they're still trying to figure things out. They're
(50:55):
going through a new CBA. I tell you like this,
whether you like it or not. The best thing that
happened to the w n B A is Caitlin Clark.
You know, the rivalry with Andrew Reese is a good
thing for the league.
Speaker 3 (51:06):
I believe.
Speaker 7 (51:07):
I don't like how the media purchased it as a
race thing. I don't think it's that at all between
those two. But again, they're trying to recreate that Burden
magic thing. You know, listen right ride that Clayton Clark,
Caitlin Clark wave the best you can follow the path
at the NBA, in the NFL, go global, get profitable,
make some money, get these girls paid. But yeah, This
(51:29):
is a good thing for Oregon. Oregon is a big,
big sports state. Being a packed twelve guy myself. I've
been to Oregon a couple of times, and I can
tell you those fans out there are real, So kudos
to them. I hope they're successful and I hope the
w n b A continues to grow well.
Speaker 1 (51:46):
I tell you I covered the Portland trail blas as
many years ago when they were looking at when they
went out there, and they treated me well when I
was over to Portland. Telliseam during rip city and not
obviously with George, and I know Chauncy Phillips is there.
Portland's a great place. I enjoy my time up there.
They see me well, all right, I continue to thank
Mike appreciate that. Oh yeah, I can put his comments
(52:07):
up in the chat too. This guy's on a roll.
We got to get him out there social promote, conceiitio
go ahead, George, he.
Speaker 5 (52:12):
Says, scott is great.
Speaker 8 (52:13):
Do not like the name, but Portland has a great
NBA history and it's great for the WNBA and for
the Portland community. Yeah, I Portland is a great basketball town.
I'm so glad that the WNBA is going back there.
I don't have a problem with the Fire. Oh my god,
I'm dating myself. But I could go back to a
team called the Chicago Fire, which I believe was a
(52:34):
USFL or was it one of those leagues a football name.
But the Portland Fire Portland Timber those I can live
with either one of those two names. But the important
thing is, yeah, that the ladies in the WNBA and
they continue the growth of that sport because they have
such tremendous talent, such tremendous young young women coming out
(52:55):
of the college ranks and playing in that league. So
I'm looking forward to Portland being back in there and
then and then I'm looking forward to another city closer
to my interest.
Speaker 2 (53:03):
I leave it alone or don't worry. I got references.
I don't stay the cat out.
Speaker 1 (53:07):
Of the bag on that when you sick that bad,
really seriously, really don't do it, all right, Candy, go ahead.
Speaker 4 (53:15):
So the Portland Fire they originally started back in they
were there in two thousand to two thousand and two.
They got their name for the Great Fire of Portland, Maine,
which was in back in eighteen sixty six. Now, I
will say on September eighteenth, twenty twenty four, Portland was
(53:38):
officially awarded a franchise, which will be the WNBA's fifteenth team. Now,
I want to say, on June twenty sixth of this year,
the team surpassed ten thousand season ticket deposits. That is
really great for the WNBA. July fifteenth is when they
(54:00):
named that. They announced that they would be named the
Portland Fire. But to have ten thousand season ticket already
sold and you know the team isn't even playing yet,
that is great, great news for the WNBA.
Speaker 2 (54:17):
Yeah, it really is.
Speaker 1 (54:18):
But that said, we're going to a station break Candy.
When we come back, we'll talk about our feature topic
of that like the Detroit Lions and at Kansas City Chiefs.
Whill we come back a lot more to get through, Candy.
Speaker 3 (54:27):
Go ahead.
Speaker 4 (54:28):

(56:41):
Thank you, Becky, Scott Candy.
Speaker 1 (56:43):
Well done. Let's talk about a feature top of the night.
George Iicorn, by the way, will be covering Detroit Lions
and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers mondaynight. Problem with Icorn what
he tells back, he'll definitely be giving a report on
the game, but I was feeling he'll be targeted for
Fire Up next week and then they'll talk about it
as well another night because we're gonna have a loaded agenda.
(57:06):
We're hoping to have making price on right Candy next week,
so that'll send George probably over to Fire Up for
one week anyways. But meanwhile, willing going anywhere, he'd come
out here every week and he's gonna be meeting a
lot of people. Now I have a quicker way to
promote his call by putting them on these primetime shows. Anyways,
let's talk about the Lions and the Kansas City Chiefs.
We'll take it down this particular road. They lose to
(57:28):
the Kansas City Chiefs thirty to seventeen. They get Tampa
Monday night. Bryan Brown incident, Oh my goodness, that was
not a good look people, with what he did to
Juju Smith Schuster. We're gonna go a lot of different ways.
Dan Campbell didn't like it. He gets a one game
suspension for it. So as we go, and we'll also
talk about some of the other mistakes. And now I'm
(57:49):
gonna turn over to Marvin first. In that particular game, okay,
the Lions were playing up hill the whole time to
begin with, and to me, they were running.
Speaker 2 (58:00):
To me, it looked like they were running behind all night.
Speaker 1 (58:02):
Aiden Hutchinson's personal follow the roofing the passer called in
help at all with Patrick Mahomet, Why did you do it?
We all know about the highly publicized Bryan Branch scuffle
and the Dan Campbell gamble on fourth down that failed
when Mohamma Saint. I'm a Ross Saint Brown dopter fourteen
year pass and it didn't help matters any either. But
(58:23):
then they also had an illegal formation on Jared Doff
that was actually overturned in New York that led to
a lunchdown reception that was negated. So with that said,
we'll talk about that. I'll follow it up about what
we can expect Monday night. I should also point out
another nugget too, that Aiden Hutchinson's get this. On September seventeenth,
(58:46):
he tied a franchise record by producing a quarterback hit
in seventeen straight games. Take note Bucks quarterback Baker Mayfield,
because I'm going to tell you one thing, it's hard
to believe to this date that the Daxonville Jaguars passed
on a Hunchinson. All right, George, we're gonna let you
take the lead on this and then we'll I know what,
I'm gonna put all the facts out there so I
(59:06):
don't have to go back and get them. The Lions
have scored thirty plus points and nine of their last
home ten home games. Now they'll need that Monday night
to get to Tampa Bay Bucks to try to go
into the bye week five and two a lot of information.
If I hit you at too much of it, no problem.
Just go back here at about the one hour mark,
and then you can go ahead and find it on
(59:27):
our YouTube channel and then you can get it all.
You'll have plenty of time before Monday night. Okay, George,
you're gonna be there, but let's first you're gonna talk
about the Kansas City game, and then we're gonna talk
about the bugs and all the facts that I hit
you with. No restart necessary by anybody. I gave it
to you. Go ahead, George.
Speaker 8 (59:44):
Yeah, Well, that game against Kansas City obviously had a
lot of a lot of stuff going on at one time.
As you laid it out, Scott, the Lions were battling
from behind, and you're right, they look like they were
looking over their shoulders the whole game. They probably were,
because Kansas City was pretty damn ferocious defensively and offensively.
(01:00:07):
I don't want to get into some of those calls
because some of them were controversial. Obviously, the Detroit fans
and some of the media here in town are just
all bitch and moaning about the lack of a penalty
on Kansas City? What right did what right did the
officials have to call New York into the situation?
Speaker 5 (01:00:26):
And you know, and other stuff like that.
Speaker 8 (01:00:27):
But the bottom line is this, You're not going to
beat Kansas City when you're leading Rushier Gibbs had just
sixty five yards and you're not going to beat them
if Jamison Williams only had sixty some yards as.
Speaker 5 (01:00:41):
You're leading receiver.
Speaker 8 (01:00:43):
I mean, those stats alone, those stats alone illustrate the
problem that Detroit was having, and that was with the
tight defense and the aggressive defense that the Chiefs threw
out at them. There's no question about it. The Chiefs
were aiming for this. Obviously they went into and three
and Detroit was going in.
Speaker 5 (01:01:01):
Four and one. But I'll tell you what, it was
a hell of a game.
Speaker 8 (01:01:05):
But the Chiefs really showed who actually controlled that game
and offense and defense as far as Monday Night goes, Yeah,
this is gonna be a heck of a game. You're right, Scott.
I mean, you know, Tampa Bay is loaded right now.
Mayfield's playing great golf. Of course is a great quarterback
as we know in Detroit. So that is gonna be
I think that's gonna be an offensive display on Monday
(01:01:27):
night too. It's going to be lights out as far
as the points going on that board scoreboard. But I'm
gonna listen back now. I'm interested knowing you know. The
rest of your panel is how everybody feels about this.
Speaker 1 (01:01:40):
Well, let me add another nugget before I turn it
over to Marvin Powell. Okay, the team's went out there,
put the blooprint out there for everybody to stop the
lines with that immaculate performance on Sunday night. They really
really did, so go ahead, Marvin. Okay, let's put Concisio
back up there. This guy's on a roll. I love
it when guy's on a roll. That Marvin's comment after that,
(01:02:01):
Go ahead, Candy Well Georgie read it, and then we'll
go to market.
Speaker 8 (01:02:05):
Sure, the NFL seems to go in the direction of
parody due to injuries and lack of the running game.
Coaching does make a difference. See New England Pats. Jerry
Jones needs to be tested for the illegal substance.
Speaker 1 (01:02:18):
Okay, that's pretty hard to follow, but we will say.
Let's put his opinion out there, will standpoint with the topic.
Speaker 2 (01:02:25):
Go ahead, Marvin.
Speaker 3 (01:02:26):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (01:02:27):
In regards to Detroit I'm a believer. Dan Campbell has
established real culture, like real culture, and you see that
there's played out with the players and how and how
the games are going offensively, defensively.
Speaker 3 (01:02:40):
This is a tough team. This is a very tough team.
Speaker 7 (01:02:43):
They lost some players, they lost some coaches, and they're
still making plays and still balling in regardless of them,
you know, losen to the Chiefs. The NFL has a problem.
And that problem is that the Chiefs are a wounded animal,
all right, and you don't want to see you don't
want to go against the wounded animal. If you look
at Pat Mahomes, if you watch his press conferences, you
can see his energy. He's I mean he has he
(01:03:04):
has a high degree of emotional intelligence and he always
says the right thing. But you can tell this guy's
burning up. I can tell when I'm watching them, you know.
So I expect k c to come back this, you know,
as we get into the second or third part of
the season. I expect k c UH to improve and
play better. I think that they're going to be challenged
(01:03:24):
within their own division. The Raiders, the Chargers, these teams
are real well they have to heard it. But the
Chargers and the other team vision. Anyway, winding animal in
regards to my my USC brother Juju Schuster uh Smith Schuster,
who was assaulted after the game, that's a horrible that's horrible.
Speaker 3 (01:03:46):
There's no room for that in the game. Listen, listen.
Speaker 7 (01:03:49):
It's a violent game. I get it. You know, things
happen you go out there. But you can kill somebody
in the football fiel.
Speaker 3 (01:03:54):
We've seen that.
Speaker 7 (01:03:55):
Unfortunately, we don't want that, but but it's real like that.
And obviously we understand the dangers of seeds, as Will
has talked to us about his situation.
Speaker 3 (01:04:03):
But the reality is it's.
Speaker 7 (01:04:05):
A violent game in tempers flair, and at the end
of the game, it's realistic that you're gonna have some
kind of negative energy toward another player. That's normal, I mean,
for you know, for a hundred years, that's probably been
the case. But you don't do that, you know, you don't.
Speaker 2 (01:04:18):
You don't.
Speaker 7 (01:04:18):
You don't start a fight after the game when you
have everybody on the field, helmets off, media, families, coaches,
That's that's just not the look. Within the football game,
you have plenty of opportunity to assault somebody within a
football game. You have plenty of opportunity to go out
there and lay somebody out here and give somebody a
good old Mike Tyson punch with your helmet. You can
(01:04:39):
do that. There's no need for what he did. And
you know, I think the one game suspension, I think
he got off easy with that.
Speaker 2 (01:04:47):
Great points.
Speaker 1 (01:04:48):
Okay, Well, obviously nobody knows better about this sort of
thing than you, especially when it comes to the physical part.
But let's talk about it in general. What I said before,
Allions got beat Barren Square by the Chiefs and their
out opportunities. They did cash in on national TV. But
and now, of course you have the side show. What else,
what do you want to add to this?
Speaker 6 (01:05:08):
Well, first of all, Ken's city is just They're just
a beast. They've been dominant for the last few years
since Mahome's been there, and so you're gonna have to
come in guns blazing. But the truth is, like I
really love Detroit, but but I love him for a
different reason than you guys. I love how it was
a golf He got traded up there, he got banished
(01:05:28):
up there. They would send him up there to you know,
put him on a time out and just let his
career die and then he messed around and came back
and he beat the rams man like I was waiting.
Speaker 3 (01:05:40):
On that game.
Speaker 6 (01:05:40):
You know, that's the kind of stuff I like in sports.
But the truth is, like there's no place for this
in that sport to harm somebody, especially after the game.
Like I mean, that's when you call the police. That's
a that's an assault, that's when you know. But but
what I would really say instead of us hopping on
this guy's back right now, I'm saying, these are the
(01:06:01):
signs that like every every NFL player or anybody I
know who committed suicide, all that loved ones said the
same thing.
Speaker 3 (01:06:08):
They started to not act out of character.
Speaker 6 (01:06:11):
So if he did that, my question is who's checking
on this guy, Not the guy who got hurt, but
the guy who attacked him, because he's the one his
mind is probably not. He ain't he ain't something going
on up there. They need to check him right now.
I know you can't really get a CTE diagnosis until death,
but them symptoms of that, because I know I got
them all I live with him and then they just
(01:06:32):
destroyed my life for a long time. But one thing
that I got to say, something that Marble said earlier. Man,
I can't believe I did this. I actually turned off
the football game to watch Kaitlyn Clark play WNBA like
and to you said that, I didn't even connect them dots.
He's right, He's one hundred percent right. Like that girl
(01:06:52):
has changed the game. So let's go back to the
NBA in the NFL. But but yeah, I just said,
somebody just need to be checking on that guy, not
the one who got hurt, but the one who did
the assault, because he's probably not acting out of character.
He's probably acting out of character.
Speaker 2 (01:07:06):
Yeah, okay, so everybody called everybody or a candy or
the last one, right.
Speaker 4 (01:07:11):
Okay, so there is no place in football for that
to happen after the game. With that being said, though,
and I understand, well, yeah, maybe we need to check
on him and see, But I also wonder what did
Kansas City do during the game to provoke some of that,
knowing that they didn't get called for anything either. Now
(01:07:34):
I'm not justifying what he did. What he did was wrong,
but there's always two sides to every story in every
fight like that, some something they did not that doesn't
justify what he did, but they must have done something
as well, and I'd be interested to see and hear
(01:07:59):
more about that, because there's been some rumblings and stuff
like that and saying, you know that they did certain
things during the game and they just didn't get called.
That doesn't justify what he did, but it might explain
more to us why he did. But never should never
(01:08:19):
should he have taken it to that level. And like
Marvin said, I agree. I don't know that one game
was just enough, you know, Is that enough for him
to learn and that what he did was wrong.
Speaker 6 (01:08:34):
I got a quick one for you on that one.
Let's say we all have an enemy. We got an enemy,
all different enemies, right, and you know one day you're
gonna lay hands on his enemy. Are you gonna do
it with a million people watching? Why are you gonna
do it.
Speaker 3 (01:08:48):
Where you're not gonna get in trouble?
Speaker 6 (01:08:50):
So for some reason for him not to think about that,
he's already his brain. I'm telling you that something's not
right and we're gonna be reading about this guy a
little bit later on in this career. And I hate
to say that, and I don't. I hope that he
finds help, because that's what it is. I'll guarantee it.
I don't even know who it is that I didn't
see it, but I'm going to follow it now. I'm
gonna make that my personal business and researcher.
Speaker 2 (01:09:11):
Well that's good. Now, let me find out a couple
of other things.
Speaker 1 (01:09:13):
Maybe one of the reasons why he only got that
one game's ascension is he had a chance to tell
his side of the story. Maybe the NFL found it
somewhat believable that maybe he was provoked in some way.
I don't know, but nevertheless, I'll only close it up
this topic out on one thing. A year ago, I
got on Mike Tarico's kate because he thought the Lions
escaped and got lucky that they won because Travis Kelsey
(01:09:33):
was there. Well, guess what wasn't there.
Speaker 2 (01:09:35):
Guess what?
Speaker 1 (01:09:36):
Travis was there, and the Chiefs had the model to
end up beating the Lions. Of course, Kandy and I
went out there to the Super Bowl and had opportunity
to see the Chiefs against the Eagles. We didn't go
to the game, but we talked to a lot of
people and make Rico look a little bit better for
NBC as well. Great points everybody here across the board.
Georgia obviously will be expecting you to talk about it
(01:09:56):
obviously on Fire Up next week, which is probably where
you're headed for that one week at least next week.
And of course I'll allow you to talk about it
on the Baseball Show as well, because I want a
different audience here as well. That would be the one
time I give you the opportunity to talk about both
to justify your presidence being there as long as you
let the Lions know that you're certainly helping them out
around the nation. Great stuff all the way around. So
(01:10:18):
with that said, we're going to go back to the
hard wood and the legend. Let's talk about Saint john basketball.
I know Marvin loves to talk about New York hoops that,
but Saint John's basketball under Rick Patino ended up winning
his first pick.
Speaker 2 (01:10:36):
He's titled in forty years? Can they do it again?
This year? Marvin? Rick Patino and Marvin you know we're having.
Speaker 3 (01:10:49):
Problem with sorry about that.
Speaker 7 (01:10:51):
Yeah, So what I'll say is, based on Rick Patino's
resume regarding can he do it again? I saw all
he's ever did is win. All he all he does
is win everywhere he goes.
Speaker 3 (01:11:02):
He wins.
Speaker 7 (01:11:02):
He's an elite coach, He's a Hall of Fame coach.
He went to Saint John's. The place has been dormant
since Luke Carniseca, and you know, he had success. So
without knowing a lot of what he has on his
team and assuming that they have the nil money and
he's you know, using his name to re crude and
I'm certain he has a roster, can they have success
next year?
Speaker 3 (01:11:22):
Absolutely?
Speaker 2 (01:11:24):
Okay, fair enough, Well, what was the question?
Speaker 3 (01:11:29):
I miss?
Speaker 2 (01:11:29):
That's what we'll talk about Rick Patino every program on
the planet.
Speaker 6 (01:11:36):
You know what, it's hard to argue with success. You know,
he's Yeah, I can't say anything about him other than,
you know, they got head to have that money now
and when they start recruiting, a lot of the you
know this coaches first come in, they they they're stuck
with what they have until they you know, you can
kind of clean it up a little bit. But I
expect him to start winning again.
Speaker 2 (01:11:55):
Yeah, no problem, George, go ahead.
Speaker 5 (01:11:57):
Yeah, I mean I admire Rick Patino. He's had a
great career.
Speaker 8 (01:12:00):
I mean, I know there's been some you know, rivals
of his that don't like his style or this or that.
Speaker 5 (01:12:06):
Big deal.
Speaker 3 (01:12:07):
He's a winner.
Speaker 8 (01:12:08):
He has succeeded in almost everywhere he's gone, and more
power to him. I mean, Saint John's been a great
program for many, many years, decades. You know, then they felt,
you know, they fell a little bit, as all teams
sometimes do. But Patino is a is a man. He's
kind of like he's kind of like a grandfather figure.
(01:12:29):
But he doesn't look old, you know what I mean.
He still looks like he's you know, fresh and a's soul,
full of energy, and he's so enthusiastic. He loves the players.
He gets to know his players real. While I really
like him as a head coach, I think he'll do well.
Speaker 4 (01:12:43):
Scotty, how do I argue with what's already been said?
I mean, he he has been proven. He's two NCAA
Division tournaments, seven NCAA Division Regional Final fours, American East
Tournament Championship, two American East Regular Season championships, five SEC
(01:13:10):
Tournament championships, too SEC regular season I mean two Conference
USA Like everywhere he's gone, he's taken into the championship.
So I don't see why. Now. The one thing I
will say with nil, you have to re recruit your
same players and as well get new players. So sometimes
(01:13:34):
some of these coaches that have been around a long time, yes,
there they could be good recruits, but they might not
be as good of recruiting and re recruiting. The one
other thing I will say in basketball especially is that
you only play five on the on the floor. So
(01:13:57):
if you I'm gonna, I'm gonna say that, I think
your next man up is probably what you would have
thought is probably playing for a different team because they
wanted to be up on the on the playing all
the time. So I think those it's not necessarily the
first five that you have as important as the next
(01:14:19):
five to come up to help. And so it'll be
interesting to see how Rick does with that.
Speaker 1 (01:14:25):
All right, Well, let me put a bull on Riven
or a bull on this one. Because the legend of
Rick Patino, who actually became the first coach to win
conference titles with five Division one teams Boston University, Kentucky, Louisville, Iona,
and Saint John. Nobody has to comment on that. I'm
just putting out there as a fact everything you guys
have said regoes, he wins, and as far as I'm concerned,
(01:14:46):
when you're able to go out there and win. I repeat, people,
the first coach of win conference titles with five division teams,
Boston University, Kentucky, Louisville, I Saint John's. That's funny. Nobody
needs to comment on this one. But we're gonna do
something normally don't do. Talk about horse racing. Okay, And
why would I go horse racing? I'm telling you, I
got no tice. Ron Hey, listen, I'm talking about everything
(01:15:09):
on you. Ronter Cott, jockey wrote Secretariat recently passed away,
so it's unfortunate. Rest and peace ron Forcott. Well, and
he talks about ronter Cott or horse racing in general.
Speaker 3 (01:15:22):
No, I don't really have a lot, you know.
Speaker 6 (01:15:23):
I've went to some of those derbies they have him
Santa Anna once of that one once before. Okay, Yeah,
I don't really have a lot. My experience with horses
is the ec line stuff like therapy.
Speaker 1 (01:15:34):
All right, don't worry about it. All right, we'll bow
pass this one. But I wanted to put that out there.
Ronter Cott, rest in peace, George.
Speaker 8 (01:15:41):
Yeah, what a great guy. I mean, he's a Hall
of Fame jockey.
Speaker 3 (01:15:45):
Scott.
Speaker 8 (01:15:45):
You know he took Secretariat to that Triple Crown back
in nineteen seventy three, and you know he he just
had a wonderful winning streak.
Speaker 5 (01:15:54):
Man, that horse was unbelievable.
Speaker 8 (01:15:56):
Nobody was going to beat Secretariat that year, winning the
Ucky Derby, the Preakness, and then the Belmont Steakes. I
used to love watching the those three races, and I
still do, not as much as I used to. But
I you know, the sport of horse racing is dipped.
But this guy was definitely a Hall of Fame jockey,
no question about it. You know, he's born in Canada.
(01:16:18):
A lot of people forgot about that, but he's He's
won for the ages and God rest him, God rest
in peace.
Speaker 4 (01:16:25):
He was inducted into the National Museum of Racing and
Hall of Fame back in nineteen seventy nine, like he
was voted in the New Brunswick Sports Hall of Fame,
and in nineteen eighty he was inducted into the Canada
Sports Hall of Fame. In eighty four, he became the
first recipient of the Vino Gomez Memorial Award. Like he's
(01:16:50):
just done so much. Yes. In twenty fifteen, a statute
of Secretariat and Chercott crossing the finish line at the
Belmont Stakes was unveiled and two Cutt's hometown of Grandfa
Falls and New Brunswick. That tells you right there what
a career that he had, because how many people are
(01:17:11):
going to have a statute of themselves up in their hometown.
So rest in peace, But what a career.
Speaker 1 (01:17:20):
Yeah, it's Tucky Derry Beaumont Stakes great, the stakes so great,
all right, Marvin.
Speaker 7 (01:17:24):
The fact that we're talking about a horse fifty years
later tell you how especially tells you how great this
horse is. You know what I'm saying. It's just one
of those things where even if you don't follow horse
person like myself, you know Secretariat, like you, you know
the I don't you know, if you don't love rock
and roll, you still know the Rolling Stones, you know
what I'm saying. So his legacy has lasted. The jockey
(01:17:45):
obviously is attached to that, rightfully so. And you know,
this is a sports icon, a horse in the jockey
that has at this point stood the test of time.
And they make movies out of this horse. They made
a movie off the horse. So again, for a guy
who doesn't follow it, I know enough to know that
secretary to special as is the jockey rest in peace,
(01:18:07):
No question about.
Speaker 1 (01:18:08):
We're going to go to another spore we don't cover much,
and that's diving. US Olympic legend Greg lu gainis is
going to sell his home and medals in a shocking
move to begin life over seas.
Speaker 2 (01:18:19):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:18:20):
Uh, the greatest diver male of all time, one of
America's most that great Olympians, is letting go much of
his past. So with that said, well, what your talks
about Greg lu gainis going overseas? Hey, I'll tell you
after traveling overseas and doing what I did, I'm hooked
on international travel. But more power to Greg. You know
when I saw him die back in the days, he
was unbelievable.
Speaker 6 (01:18:41):
Yeah, well, I'll tell you what like Well, you know,
as a team USA, I think we spent a lot
of time in Europe. So remind me to tell you
my horse racing story later.
Speaker 1 (01:18:50):
You know, we have time for well how you may
talk about that probably on one of your shows and
we'll the later date, but not tonight.
Speaker 2 (01:18:58):
Go ahead, No, no, no.
Speaker 6 (01:18:59):
Not not to Yeah yeah, but no, no, what Gret
know a lot of athletes are doing that, not just athletes.
But a lot of people are realizing how much easier
life is outside of America, right, Like you know, the
you can sell you're a meddle and then now you
can live over there, and and you know, people what
we pay for rent here. People are getting compounds with
(01:19:21):
the with the chauffeur and the driver or a driver
and a chef and security. And so I mean, I'm
not mad at him. I understand why he's doing it.
And like I said, it's a it's a trend. Now,
it's a trend.
Speaker 2 (01:19:35):
Yeah, all right.
Speaker 8 (01:19:36):
George, Yeah, one of the greatest divers of all time,
obviously in the world, but of course in the United States.
Speaker 5 (01:19:44):
Greg lagain is well, you know, everybody's got her own
rights to where.
Speaker 8 (01:19:49):
They want to live, and and uh, you know, citizenship wise,
I'm sorry to see him go. I'm uh not a
big fan of moving to another nation, but everybody he
has their own free will. And Greg has certainly done
a great job here in America. He has been at
the forefront of teaching young young divers too. I'm sure
(01:20:13):
he's worked with a lot of youngsters as well over
the years. And he'll continue his career in another nation
like you said, that's again his prerogative. He has a
right to do that, but we're never going to forget
all his accomplishments, of course as a United States Olympia maybe.
Speaker 2 (01:20:33):
So.
Speaker 4 (01:20:34):
One of the things he did is he sold all
of his Olympic medals in order to move out of
the US Olympic medals. While they are a prize possession
for some, they also are something that is tangible. And
are they going to Is he going to pass him
on to somebody else? Does he want to keep them,
(01:20:55):
does he want to look at them? Obviously no, he
wanted to sell him. He wants to start a new
chapter overseas. He's not the only one. And sometimes it's
not just about a life easier. Yes, it can be cheaper,
but sometimes it becomes political too, and they don't It
can be polarizing here and I'm not gonna get into politics.
(01:21:18):
But if a person doesn't agree with the politics or
the way that United States is going, their option might
be to move outside the US. And if he's been
over there because he's been in competitions, he's been in
places that maybe he liked more or he wanted to
see more of, and that could be why he's going
(01:21:40):
there as well.
Speaker 2 (01:21:42):
Okay, Margaret.
Speaker 7 (01:21:43):
He was an elite level athlete, so he did a
lot of traveling around the world for years. But the
reality is that the Internet has made the world so small.
It is so normal to create relationship with people halfway
around the world. It is so normal to create a
path where you can go list some where, you know, overseas,
and you're right in this political climate, in the economy,
(01:22:06):
with his already existing exposure to the you know, other countries.
For him, it was just, you know, a personal decision
and simple as that. It's no different from moving to
Jersey for him.
Speaker 1 (01:22:17):
You know, Yeah, more power to them. All right, let's
go to our neck non tour top of the night.
Everybody's waiting for them. This is a pretty cool one.
Now get this seven eleven baby. This is unbelievable. The
name Jamie Amy Brown was born in Saint Louis, Missouri.
But that seven eleven baby will get seven eleven dollars
(01:22:39):
for college because she was born at seven eleven and
weighing seven pounds eleven ounces. A baby girl named, as
I said, Jay Amy Brown. How do you like that?
Seventy one hundred eleven dollars just to go ahead and
have a little bit of money up front for college, Marvin,
Is that surreal.
Speaker 7 (01:22:59):
Or what I'm looking at from seven elevens perspective, very
cheap way to get some get some real marketing going.
Uh you know, getting people's hearts. You know, corporate Americas
taking a beating, and you know, so if they can
find opportunities to reach the common man, show some money out,
sell a nice story, get some people in them stores. Hey,
(01:23:20):
you know that that's good business.
Speaker 3 (01:23:21):
I get it.
Speaker 2 (01:23:22):
Yeah, they got me to do it. So there, there
you go, seven elevens.
Speaker 1 (01:23:25):
Now you better give me a big gold for free,
among the other things. I actually like the big golds.
I like those slushes, all right, go ahead?
Speaker 6 (01:23:33):
Well well, actually, uh St. Louis my hometown just so
you know, and so I spent a lot of time
over there.
Speaker 3 (01:23:39):
Sat.
Speaker 6 (01:23:40):
Saint Louis is a highly highly, highly segregated city. You know, Yeah,
this is very segregated, and so what what this could be?
To be very honest, there's a lot of racial tension,
especially at the seventy levels and the stores because a
lot of those seven levels are owned by people from
like the Mid East and things like that, and so
there's there's a tension there is, so this might just
(01:24:00):
be a way to kind of kind of calm some
of that stuff down a little bit. Like I've never
heard this story, and like I'm on Facebook, most of
people on my page are from from that area. So
it's gonna be interesting to find out exactly was that
in the city of Saint Louis. Was it in the
suburbs or was it way out in the country somewhere,
But I got to feel it was in the city
where that racial tension is still up there.
Speaker 1 (01:24:22):
Well whatever seven eleven, I mean seven one, one one, well,
whatever poor digit's worth for college and the band start
all right, go ahead, Georgia.
Speaker 8 (01:24:30):
Absolutely, Yeah, it is a great marketing idea by seven
and eleven. That's really very unique and uh and you.
Speaker 5 (01:24:37):
Know it's something that most people wouldn't expect.
Speaker 8 (01:24:41):
I mean, yeah, people that want to play the lottery,
they bet certain numbers.
Speaker 3 (01:24:45):
We all know that.
Speaker 8 (01:24:46):
But the fact that seven eleven still step up and says, hey,
if this, if this happens to a baby being born,
and this little girl was born with those kind of
characteristics with using that accombination, like you said of seven
and eleven. Hey, all the more power to it. Hats
off to the to the franchise for doing so all right, Katy.
Speaker 4 (01:25:08):
Rachel Langford's phone has been ringing NonStop since seven eleven,
when she gave birth to a girl at seven eleven PM,
weighing seven pounds and eleven ounces. But the most exciting
call came from seven eleven, which celebrated the news of
Jamie Brown's berth by pledging seven eleven dollars to her
college fund. The convenience store chain previously had called to
(01:25:30):
offer a gift basket with diapers and other merchandise. Langford
said the additional pledge was totally unexpected. She was completely
shocked and just kind of freaked out. A representative for
seven to eleven confirmed to CNN that the company has
pledged the money for Jamie's college fund, as well as onesies,
(01:25:51):
diapers and other gifts.
Speaker 2 (01:25:53):
Wow.
Speaker 4 (01:25:54):
It kind of also reminds me of you know, all
these rests that give on your birthday a free whatever
it is. It's a good marketing tool, it's a good
way to get people in. I'm sure this family now
seven eleven if they have a choice. Let's face it,
you're driving down the road. There's three or four different
(01:26:16):
gas stations. This family is gonna stop at seven eleven's
now you know they're gonna and it's a feel good story.
So kudos to seven eleven for doing that.
Speaker 1 (01:26:27):
Let me tell you something, Marvin, this is a good
field good story. When I brought you in here was
initially you survived that one man. This one's a little
easier adult, but I got plenty more coming here. All right,
let's go on to Molly karm Get all right, everybody
talking about Marley Karam and First Take. She actually recently
she is leaving ESPN by the end of the year
(01:26:49):
join the network. Back in two thousand and six, Molly
was upset that the network went ahead and Low Boulder
with a five hundred thousand dollars figure and because she
felt what she brought to the network on First Take,
and she recently did work with Yukon and Danny Hurley.
I'll tell you one thing. I like Molly Carara. I
(01:27:10):
think I even mentioned her in my book Lessons from
the Microphone. This lady'll be able to I look forward
to seeing her on other platforms. She has the utmost
respectful What she did to that show. She elevated it.
And I'll talk about steven A. Smith in a moment.
Let's folks keep the focus on Molly Marvin. This woman
is a true pro in every sense of the word.
Not bad looking either, but forget about the appearance. But
(01:27:33):
her professionalism is top notch. And again, five hundred K
for what she did to that network to calm down
steven A.
Speaker 2 (01:27:39):
Smith. She's really getting under paid for that. But go ahead, Marvin.
Speaker 7 (01:27:44):
I mean ultimately that the advertisers weren't demanding that they
have her back. The advertisers weren't making her mandatory as
part of the deal. I like Molly. She did a
good job. I do agree in regress on how she looks.
That's the thing, man. You know, they hire, you know,
attractive women, and you know that's sex sales. That's the
(01:28:05):
bigger story there is, that sex sales. Fortunately, I think
that a lot of these networks have hired out standing
women who you know, some of them are attractive, but
they seem pretty knowledgeable.
Speaker 3 (01:28:15):
So that's been good.
Speaker 7 (01:28:16):
But in regards to Molly, listen, you're worth whatever your
employee says you're worth. You're worth whatever they're wanting to
pay you. That's really how I look at that. So
you know, if they felt that you were as good
as you think you as you think you are, they
would have paid you that. But they saw different value,
They saw different opportunities. You know, when we look at
their their budget, they didn't feel like allocating you know,
(01:28:38):
so much to you. It is what it is, you know.
Thank God for a free market. Go somewhere else, make
you some more money and get your value up.
Speaker 2 (01:28:46):
Su sure will obsously.
Speaker 1 (01:28:47):
Like I said, she did a little work with Dan
Hurley with you con men basketball, what are your thoughts
can do about Molly Carom?
Speaker 4 (01:28:53):
You know she was promoted to permit host on First
Take Back on September fifteenth, twenty fifteen. Yes, she declined
the contract extension with ESPN and will be leaving the
network at the end of twenty twenty five Later, she
confirmed on Instagram, saying the news came out earlier than
I attended and not in the way I hoped. She
(01:29:17):
decided to close this incredible chapter and step away from
First take It was one of the great honors of
her career. The next day, stephen A. Smith opened up
the September sixteenth show with a tribute to her and
said that she abruptly then decided to call it quits.
(01:29:38):
You know, Martin, you hit the nail on the head.
There's a lot of female broadcasters in the media that
are very knowledgeable. A lot of them are very sexy. Yes,
sex sales, especially when you're trying to attract the casual fan.
Let's put it that way, because you already have the
sports fan, the diehards. What you're trying to do is
(01:30:01):
you're trying to get the casual fans in there to
watch your programming. And there's a lot of different programming
out there. You know, you have your Fox, you have ESPN,
now you have all kinds of streaming. You know that
you have Apple, and you have all these different places. So, yeah,
your your worth is what you can get from your employer.
(01:30:23):
And if you think you can get more, more power
to you. If you want to leave and try and
get it from someplace else, that's definitely your prerogative.
Speaker 6 (01:30:32):
Okay, very good, Candy, All right, Well, well I don't
think it's over yet personally. I know they announced that
she was leaving, but the same thing happened with Van
and White on. Was it the will of fortune? No,
no will fortune.
Speaker 2 (01:30:47):
Fortune.
Speaker 3 (01:30:47):
Okay, yeah, same thing.
Speaker 6 (01:30:49):
They found out she hadn't had a raise in twenty
years and Pat Sajak was making like twenty eight million
and she was making like two hundred thousand. Then we
come to find out she was actually like a La
Land kind of sewurce, like she bought up all these
houses and buildings. So she actually did very well on
her own. But the people spoke up the fans and
(01:31:10):
they say, you know, if you go turn it on
right now, she's back because they upped her price. They
was gonna let her walk. But sometimes the fans will speak,
so maybe the sports fans will say something and she
might wind up coming back with a better contract. It's
not over yet.
Speaker 1 (01:31:25):
Interesting perspective, George, You doesn't work, George, try again.
Speaker 2 (01:31:40):
I didn't take.
Speaker 4 (01:31:42):
Lip reading to get it out.
Speaker 5 (01:31:45):
You mute it real quick.
Speaker 8 (01:31:50):
Molly's a great personality, she's a great sports broadcaster. She
didn't want to be in the looking at as a
as a demotion or I'm at the end of the
line here with the SPN. There will talk about she
was going to just be on Sports Center or something
like that, and and and it sounds like she didn't
want that.
Speaker 5 (01:32:08):
I do agree with you, will.
Speaker 8 (01:32:10):
I mean, we may not have heard the end of
this because she is a very dynamic personality there and
and I don't like to see her being treated any
any any any diminished any of her skills that she's
got and the great work she's done so far all
these years for ESPN.
Speaker 1 (01:32:27):
Yeah, I have two more topics. We'll get ready to
wrap it up. It's being pretty easy. It's a great segue,
and then we'll do it. Take a little history down
memory land with ESPN.
Speaker 2 (01:32:36):
Stephen A.
Speaker 1 (01:32:37):
Smith did add two new shows with Content Empire. Who
knows what he's gonna add. I'm not going to talk
about what his political intentions are. We'll leave that for
a later date. But the value that he's brought to
that network, Marvin has been unbelievable and he's added two
more shows a Content Empire.
Speaker 2 (01:32:51):
What are your thought about Steve and.
Speaker 7 (01:32:52):
I stephen A is you know, he is the face
of American sports. He's the guy. You know, he's he's
the new mic and you know, and kudos to him.
He may he's come up from the bottom as a
sportswriter at his school. It went to Salem state and
now you know it's being reported that he's looking at,
you know, one hundred million dots of contracts. I don't
(01:33:12):
know how true that is, but you know, he's he's
absolutely at the top of his industry. He's the guy,
and you know, I've been watching him for many years.
Speaker 4 (01:33:21):
Candy stephen A is a personality. He's a big personality,
and people either you love him or you hate him.
And most of the time it's because of his boisterous
character at times that you don't like him. But he
is very knowledgeable. He is he researches things very well.
(01:33:47):
He's very well spoken. Yes, he can get loud at times,
and whether you like that or not, but he is
the face of ESPN though, and that's what ESPN wanted,
that's what they they're writing with his popularity, and you know,
he's bringing people in. So you know, like I said,
he's a very knowledgeable media PERSONA.
Speaker 1 (01:34:10):
I'll say one thing. I'll see an A Smith been
them a couple of times. Recently at Super Bowl, I
took a photo of a strong possibility and ends up
in that second book. I love his research and his personality.
Obviously in Panada, MotorCity madmouth around him that was built
many years ago. But I enjoy his dynamic, flamboyant personality.
(01:34:32):
I get it, but I will be surprised as when
I write Lessons on Microphone part two. If you see
a Stephen A. Smith picture in there with up he
was gracious enough as Candy took the photo to come
over step aside to take it with me.
Speaker 2 (01:34:44):
And is there something you want to add? Candy?
Speaker 4 (01:34:46):
Did you I do one last thing? He is not
ruled out actually running for president.
Speaker 2 (01:34:52):
And Candy that's for another day. Candy, thank you, Okay,
all right, go ahead.
Speaker 6 (01:34:58):
Well, even a smith Man, you know what, I like him.
You know, sometimes he says things that just burned me
up though, So that was a time where I kind
of didn't want to watch his show, to be very honest,
you know, especially that way he dealt with some of
the Kaepernick stuff, some of the things he was saying.
But don't always agree with him, but I usually wind
up coming back. But what I learned to do is
(01:35:19):
I put that because and I deal with that. I'm
no waise sensitive, too many concussions on me, so I
just put the TV on real low so he can't
scream at me, but I still watch him. I still
watch him, so I.
Speaker 2 (01:35:30):
Love to debate the guy.
Speaker 3 (01:35:32):
Yeah, yeah, he turned me up. Man, I don't have
enough brain sales left.
Speaker 2 (01:35:36):
He loved to debate the guy. But you know, I'm not.
Maybe one of these days will do it privately.
Speaker 1 (01:35:41):
But everything in my experiences whatever been positive, George, and
we're gonna go back to go one way, one last
topic to wrap it up.
Speaker 8 (01:35:48):
Well, you know, yeah, Steven A has obviously done a
great job. And whether you like him or you don't,
it's interesting, you know that he's become the face of ESPN,
like you guys mentioned, I mean, we had guys like
you know, Mike Tarico is now the face of NBC,
Jim Nance of CBS. So what I'm saying is that
Steven Smith, even though he's very opinionated, he does turn
(01:36:09):
a lot of viewers off, but he attracts many more.
And I applaud him for his professional journalism capabilities and
his display of knowledge is just unparalleled. So it doesn't
surprise me. He deserves it and I'm looking forward to
seeing him for many years to come over at eSPI.
Speaker 1 (01:36:29):
All right, well, now we are under our final topic
of the night. Obviously, my bedtime's around eleven o'clock. Don't
worry about that, everybody, And that's what Candy goes ahead
and takes care of the rest of the detectives and stuff.
But let's go back to ESPN's early anchors Chris Berman,
Bobb Lee, Tom Means, Jim Simpson, Greg Gumbel, Sharon Smith,
Lee Leonard, and George Grant. First of all, I'll give
(01:36:49):
you my takes on it real quick. Chris Berman should
still be active full time. Don't know why, but he's
definitely the face of that network. I had a chance
to meet Bob Ley over at the National Sports Media
Associate and we spent some time together and we talked
for a long time photos there. I wish I could
have met Tom MEAs arguably one of the best hockey
broadcasters of all time. We all know that Jim Smith
(01:37:10):
was on the original people over there, a multi virtual guy.
Everybody knows what Greg gumbles after he started, he was
original there. Sharan Smith, I don't know a lot about her,
much about Lee Leonard, and George Grant went on to
have a really good baseball career with the Cincinnati Red.
So Marvin, how many of these do you recognize or remember.
But that's a pretty good group. But once upon a
(01:37:32):
time with the ESPN turning into the empire that they have,
this is what they began with when they weren't as
big as they were.
Speaker 7 (01:37:38):
Yeah, I recognize a lot of those names. I think
the guy that stands out the most is obviously Chris Berman.
I've been watching BURM since I was a kid. I
remember being in you know, middle school, high school watching
Berman Sunday nights on ESPN just break down the day's games,
and it was with the fastest three minutes he was doing.
(01:37:58):
He was great, great knowledge of game. Just you know,
he's he spoke to you in a way that this
made you feel like you knew the guy, very grounded
and you know, Berman to me is synonymous with ESPN
and Pro football.
Speaker 2 (01:38:15):
Katie.
Speaker 4 (01:38:18):
You know, there's a lot of names there that you
think of sports. One of the ones I go back
to is Bob Lee and Outside the Lines. That was
a great show. Greg Gumbel was one of the ones
that started back with ESPN and had a strong presence
back in that first decade. But yeah, Dick Bytel, he
(01:38:40):
started with them. Chris Berman, of course, you know we
all sit there and think of NFL and and how
he helped sports put Sports Center on the map and
jump jump started the growth of the whole ESPN brand.
Speaker 6 (01:38:58):
Well, I was actually trying to look the name up because, right,
said Brian Gumble, right right, Yeah, yeah, most of the
names I don't remember, but Berman, I remember that name.
But I'll be on I'm a little bit compromised, so
my memory is a.
Speaker 2 (01:39:17):
Little Sorry, don't worry about a compromise.
Speaker 6 (01:39:19):
Yeah, yeah, but I remember watching all those shows. I
mean as an athlete, especially if they're living at the
Olympic Training Center. We you know ESPNS, it stays on
loop all the time, you always watching it.
Speaker 1 (01:39:29):
So yeah, I remember the first time I watched ESPN
was back in nineteen seventy nine. I was at a
friend's dorm over in East Lands, and you know, it's
unbelievable just watching it when it launch. George, you have
the final word on this topic. And then we as
we wrap up the show, we're going to do a
recap with well person so they could get his info
out there, and we'll call it a go ahead.
Speaker 2 (01:39:49):
George.
Speaker 8 (01:39:50):
Yeah, Chris Berman, backpack, back back, you know, and Chris
bermanisms as they called them. He's number one in my bug.
Bob Lay also a great broadcaster, Jim's Lison, who by
the way, came over from his career at NBC where
he was always the second man at NBC.
Speaker 5 (01:40:08):
They were always great. There's so many good ones.
Speaker 8 (01:40:10):
But yeah, I think that Berman and obviously Bobbla are
two the ones that I always admired most.
Speaker 1 (01:40:16):
Yeah, bob Le that means unbelievable. I love Bobby. He
defines that journalism is all about. He used to do
a little bit with soccer. That was one of his
favorite sports. But Bobby, to me is the one I'm
glad I had a chance to meet. I've seen Berman
a few times, we've cordially exchange, you know, handshase. But
I didn't know Chris that well Bobby, and I wish
I would have saw not a chance to meet Tom.
Speaker 2 (01:40:37):
Meees, who unfortunately died too early. Because I try to
answered it.
Speaker 1 (01:40:40):
But that said, that does wrap up this edition of
Sports of Change content wise. So what we're gonna do
is we're gonna go ahead and let everybody know they
get a whole do a station break, and then we'll
let we'll personally go ahead and know that he is
now a member of the Sports of Change. As long
as he wants to come out at nine o'clock after
a show, this will be a good way to cross
promote world shows at the same time. Jennifer Horseball, guess what,
(01:41:02):
you have a lot. I just gave you a lot
more work to do, So go ahead, marvel Le, they
get old yet.
Speaker 3 (01:41:06):
Yeah.

All right, all right, guys, I gotta have a GoFundMe
going right now. This technology was passed on to me
by Joe Namath and it's a very serious thing. So
many athletes and our veterans are suffering from the CTE symptoms.
I was probably one of the worst case scenarios because
I took hundreds of bop sled rides over a nine
year career and thanks to Joe NAMA's advice, it saved
(01:44:54):
my life and I've been on going on to help
save as many lives as I can. It goes for
ball players, military, bob, my Bobs, Tera, the teammates of course,
and so please support us, like just at least there's
