a little bit of background about you.
Speaker 2 (00:51):
Thanks appreciate you having me on. I'm a co host
to n Y MLB Talk. Basically, we are a pot
cast out of New York, mostly Mets and Yankees all
at MLB. We have other topics too, we do inside
our show where we start, we always talk about baseball.
(01:13):
But like last Monday, we had magicians come on. They
did some tricks during the show, and we had we
had a vet come on who's a big Cincinnati Reds
fan and he talked about the red So we changed
the topics. Mostly Mets, Yankees all MLB and all of
a sudden, the show has taken fire. It's it's it's
(01:34):
out there and we're everywhere. Well, that's a tough one already,
question right out of the box. I'm gonna answer, Yeah,
I could, I could try.
Speaker 1 (01:49):
I will go ahead answer.
Speaker 3 (01:51):
I went does the answer that l m B in
Brooklyn is that's one of my answers. That would be
one A for me one B also like Da Vinci's
in Brooklyn as well. On eighteen and sixty fifth.
Speaker 1 (02:05):
All right, well, good Chris Pizza or Poziah, I'm kidding
with you. With a name like that, I have to
go out there and throw the obvious cliche in there
about your name. I'll just call it Chris Pizza for
the show only. Let give everybody a little bit of
an introduction about Yeah.
Speaker 4 (02:22):
My name's Chris, and I think Rob told you about
the show that we that we co host ny MLB Talk.
We talked Mets, Yankees, all of Major League Baseball and
other topics. Like Rob said, throw some magicians in there
and and everything else. But yeah, we have a great time.
We usually do about two shows a week Mondays and
Fridays or on YouTube and all that so check us out.
(02:47):
I've been the longtime Yankee fan my whole life. Rob
has been the Met all time, you know, the Met
fan all of his life. So you know, we could
get some pretty good interesting conversations going on about Yankees
and Mets, for sure.
Speaker 5 (03:00):
Are so we have good debates as well. So uh yeah, and.
Speaker 4 (03:03):
I'm just happy to be on you. Scott.
Speaker 5 (03:05):
Thank you very much for for the you know, for
the invite, man, we appreciate it.
Speaker 1 (03:09):
Listen, little looking forward to having you on our family
of network of shows. I'll tell you one thing. I'm
looking forward to what you guys get in the Country
Club with Candy, Oh my god, she runs an incredible
ship over on Fire Up. And of course Rob, I
already got you penciled in for Inside the Pick and
I got some heavy hitters in that show, my man,
So you're gonna have to deal with me, uh Tuesdays.
(03:30):
And of course Chris, you know, well, Pizza, you know
we'll bring you on College fourths. Guy, welcome to the
big show. Okay, So if you if you haven't subscribed
our YouTube channel, please do so if you have, And
gracias this is the only word I know in Spanish. Anyways,
I guess I means thank you. So Chris, mean, well,
we'll have an opportunity to come on this one as
long as I make sure the topics are like Bob
(03:52):
Barker will tell you the price is right the top okay,
and we'll bring them on baseball and we'll know we'll
bring you guys. It's got plenty of work for you
guys about your rack platform as well. So but mean,
while we have Chris ticketed for baseball, and we'll have
a ticket to the country. Everybody goes to country. So
that and now we got Jacob Christner and welcome back Jacob.
Speaker 6 (04:18):
Way, what's going on? You guys had magicians? You said, right, yes,
did they get Preciss hillndor hit you gotta hit today?
Didn't he didn't he run?
Speaker 1 (04:29):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (04:29):
He hit a home run. Hits two hits.
Speaker 1 (04:34):
One of you guys gotta like the fact I got
Mickey Callaway on every Monday night.
Speaker 2 (04:39):
Yeah no, I mean listen, his he still a winning record.
He had a winning record with the Mets, Okay, so
you can't say anything bad about that. He had the
worst owners in baseball at the time, the Wilfarm, So
you know.
Speaker 6 (04:54):
See here's the thing, Scott, The one thing I love
about this place is you can bring t Move Road Band,
Damn and Mike and Sessa on the show.
Speaker 1 (05:02):
So it's perfect. Looks I got Verady brought two of
them on. So now what these two guys are. But
we're gonna find out the time goes on. They hop
in there and create their own identity with the big show.
Really seriously, really okay, Katy is back on as well,
will whenever you get you get there. We're gonna start
off with pundit funded tonight, though, says Jacob obviously has
opinions of his own that will transition.
Speaker 6 (05:23):
To other minor facts. Minor facts.
Speaker 1 (05:25):
Oh okay, Candy, what's going on? Candace?
Speaker 7 (05:32):
I'm glad to be here with all of you, gentlemen,
and it's nice to have Chris and Rob first time
on the show. Glad to have you guys on.
Speaker 4 (05:39):
Thank you.
Speaker 1 (05:40):
All right, Well, you know what, We're gonna lead off
with Pundit's funny, Jacob, what do you got?
Speaker 6 (05:44):
All right? Coaches, I got something for you here. This
is gonna start with It's gonna start with Craig Counsel
and it's gonna go all the way through to any
other sport possible. Your analytics are killing you, absolutely positively
killing you. It's like the Craig Council. Instead of going to.
Speaker 1 (06:06):
Oh now we lost him.
Speaker 4 (06:10):
How many David like what he was saying, so he
got rid of him.
Speaker 1 (06:16):
I'm sorry, positionechnology and technology we trust not really, but okay,
this is this was the thing.
Speaker 6 (06:25):
It's like this what I was saying with this is
like instead of going to trip away and go pick
up a player just because Jordan Wicks didn't work out
in Chicago, you want to keep playing one inning pitcher, yeah,
and then put in another. Does that means you have
six or seven pictures a game. You're wearing out your bullpen.
That's your analytics for you. And then you want to
(06:45):
play Justin Turner who's like seventy seven years old, and
you want to play him there you want to do
the lefty righty thing. Whatever. See, all of this comes
it goes to it goes to football, It goes to anything.
You guys. Remember I'm just asking you guys, is do
you remember a couple of years ago when it was
Philadelphia versus San Francisco Super Bowl not Super Bowl? The
(07:06):
NFC title game and Brock Perdy got hurt. You remember
that thing. Shanahan is supposed to be this absolute positive guru.
Yet when you party went down, there had Josh Johnson
and everything else. They ran the ball in the middle
of the whole time. Meanwhile, Mike dick Get, the most
(07:27):
boring dude in the history of the universe, was doing
reverses reverses with Walter Payton and Jim McMahon while you
know we should going the other way. I'm saying, and
this is the most boring offensive guy in the world,
and he was doing that.
Speaker 2 (07:42):
That different year, right, different year, right, the game has changed.
Speaker 6 (07:48):
Why did the most boring guy had the one of
the most exciting ideas and the most analytical guy doesn't.
That's my point whe're at. We're overdue. It's like they
brought analytics in with the movie Moneyball. They brought those in.
They were supposed to mix with the gut, with the
Jack mckeons. They're supposed to mix in with with all
(08:10):
of the one with the Dusty Bakers. They're supposed to
mix in with that. But that did not happen. All
of these young ones, the Craigy, the only the only
manager in the league that goes with this guy I
believe is Dan Wilson of Seattle, and it's like and
it's one of those things, and then that's just fifty
to fifty and how people think of him. We have
(08:33):
a problem with coaches. We have a problem with coaches
not there. It's like they coach like they're afraid to
get fired, even if they're winning, they are afraid to
get making a thought. It's like I think Aaron Boone
is way too over the top with analytics. I think
the Craig councils over the top of analytics. I think
Ali mar Moole is terrible, and the Cardinals with it.
(08:56):
It's like, you don't have to yeah, and we don't.
We have a problem with thinking for yourself. And it's like,
oh my god, even if I win, I could be fired.
And I think it goes back to Matt Maggie with
Mitchell Trubisky, and when Trubisky would make a good play,
he's still scream at him. It's like, we're not allowed
(09:19):
to think for ourselves anymore. We're not allowed to think
for ourselves anymore. It's like I brought up Ditka as
the joke. Thank you very much. We appreciate that brought
up Dicka as the joke, but he had somebody say
to him, chill, we scored a touchdown, and then he
shut up. We need these things, we need a little bit.
(09:41):
We don't need all the screamers, and we don't need
all the things we need that. We do need a
certain level of analygs because the world's changed in sports,
but we also need people to think for themselves, right
Because how I'm just gonna say this in a final
part of the Pundit's pundit here, I'm gonna say this,
how good of a coach are you really? That's where
(10:01):
the thing is. You can because I mean, are you
doing all your analytics? You win it all in the
first year, and then everything cas in, your injuries come
and then you fail, and that happens more often than not.
The best coaches are the ones that keep things alive
when things are when things are going bad.
Speaker 1 (10:20):
And so take them. Go back to Justin Turner. Give
me some clarity about where you were going with Justin Turner.
Speaker 6 (10:26):
Justin that was just an example. They use Justin Turner
and match up positions and he hit like two O eight. Okay, Yeah,
he's in like two o eight and it's like, you
have better options than that. But that's the thing that's
my thing with all coaches. Take your risk and your job,
and I'm talking about quarterbacks and everybody to take your risk,
(10:48):
think for yourself because the ones that think for themselves
are the ones that are going to make it when
things start to cave in. We have to get back
to that again.
Speaker 1 (10:58):
Hey, College got sports guys. Thank you very much for subscribing.
Much appreciated, georgeo Iycorn. Great show tonight, Thank you very much.
Never know you might be back on here sometime as well.
I never rule out bringing you on this show. I
just try. I'm like a hockey coach. I just go ahead,
Mitch and nass the line and see which one's work.
So I cour just a little fyi. You never know
when you'll be on Wednesdays, and I'll never know what
day you won't be on. Stay tuned as the world. Okay,
(11:21):
as long as I'm out of General Hospital, that's good enough.
All right. Well, we're gonna recap something that we talked
about last week very quickly, and that's says we talked
about around the Horn and here for their final episode,
it did draw four hundred and eighty two thousand people,
so that's not a bad turnout for Around the Horn.
As I said before, And I'll let Rob and Chris,
(11:45):
what are your thoughts about Around the Horn.
Speaker 2 (11:48):
I haven't watched Around the Horn in a long time.
I have to tell you esp I've been a little
down on ESPN. I haven't liked their baseball coverage.
Speaker 1 (11:59):
You know, for a long long time.
Speaker 2 (12:01):
So I really have not watched that show. I don't
know the last time I watched it. I did not
even catch the last episode, so you know, I gave
up on it a long time ago.
Speaker 1 (12:15):
I only had two words for good riddens. I knew
a lot of people on there. I thought it reminded
me of Highlight. Okay, it was a fix, and I
know a lot of guys. They had bad opinions, they
were looking to get out earlier, but I knew the inside. Okay, Pizza,
I'm gonna call him Pizza because that's easy for me.
Speaker 6 (12:30):
That's right, that's fine, Jaziah Pizza.
Speaker 1 (12:33):
Yeah, what do you think, Pizza?
Speaker 4 (12:37):
I've heard a lot. No, I'm the same thing with Rob.
I used to watch it every day, right, but I
would say ten fifteen years ago, I just gave up
on it, like you said, it just I don't know,
it just got to the point where I was just
sick of the show, you know. But I did like
the format early on, but I guess it just.
Speaker 6 (12:55):
Wore on me.
Speaker 4 (12:56):
And ESPN as a whole is just as just really
you know, turn into garbage. You know that baseball coverage
is horrible. If it's not basketball, they don't really give
you that much coverage on on the sport. So I'm
just not a fan of you. And and again ESPN,
I used to love, you know, growing up with it.
It was it was the best around, you know. Now
I just for baseball coverage. I stay on MLB Network,
(13:18):
you know until the Yanche games start.
Speaker 1 (13:21):
Oh well, yeah, it's regressed. I remember when, yeah, when
they had Sean Miller and Joe Morgan. I want to
keep messing with It's regrets so bad it makes me
sick in my stomach. I would rather go ahead, eat
my own cook and think God, candy coats. I don't
have to waste my time to get sick. I got
enough medical problems as it is. I don't have to
(13:41):
call their perch and my kicking. But it is awful,
all right. So what we're gonna do is we do
have a format in here compliments of the country called
called my Town. So that particular said, Okay.
Speaker 6 (13:54):
You're asking about the you're asking about the let's see
you around the horn.
Speaker 1 (14:00):
Well all those just informing people. Jacob is that the
last episode had four hundred and eighty two thousand people
that watch it.
Speaker 6 (14:06):
Anything you want, two thousand and one voted for j Marriotti.
Speaker 1 (14:11):
I remember Jay Marriotti used to work in Detroit before
I went over to Chicago.
Speaker 6 (14:15):
He was heard, was, yeah, it's good Rins like you said.
Speaker 1 (14:21):
I like George bu Bori's common candy. Put it up there.
Did you see Steven A. Smith play Solitaire on his
phone from the end that was bad?
Speaker 4 (14:30):
Yeah, he was probably doing the same thing I was doing.
I wasn't watching it.
Speaker 6 (14:37):
He was trying to make five bucks at a time
on one of those cash games. You can't afford anything else,
you know.
Speaker 1 (14:43):
Yes, yeah, still, I guess if they're that boring. Steven A.
Smith's an interesting burry. I did meet him actually at
the super Bowl. Its unbelievable, but it's okay to take
a picture of him. He was nice to me. But
that's as on I get my candor from them. No,
I get from caffeine. But that's for another story, not
(15:05):
that you can hardly tell. So what we're gonna do
is we have a segment in here called my town.
We're gonna let the new guys get going here. All right, Pete,
So what's going on in your town right now?
Speaker 4 (15:15):
I mean, right now? You gotta go baseball? Right base
Mets Yankees both in the division, hunt for their for
both their divisions. They're both playing good, and they're not
even playing as good as they should be. Right I'm
sure Robbill said the same thing about the Mets. The
Yankees are not playing that good right now. They're losing
to Toronto eight to four, so it looks like they're
probably gonna lose that that series two, two to three,
(15:38):
and they're gonna go down, what back down to four
games for the or five games out of the out
of the division. So but they're still leading in the
in the wildcards, so as long as you make the playoffs,
I guess that's good. But I think right now, both
of us, and I think all of Major League Baseball
are waiting for the trade deadline, right, I mean, I
(15:58):
think we were waiting for teams to step out and say,
all right, we're selling or or whatever so we could
get this, you know, get more, get get more moves going,
because both both our teams need to add. If they
don't add, I don't see either team making it or
having a chance at the World Series. So the trade
deadline is much needed for both of our teams, especially
(16:18):
I know, especially my.
Speaker 1 (16:19):
Team sorright, Rob pick it up from there. What's going
on in New York Town?
Speaker 2 (16:24):
Yeah, well, if it's about the same really Mets and Yankees.
What's going on the Mets? The Mets swept Los Angeles
Angels for the first time ever, so right now they're
you know, they're starting to hit a little better this series.
It looks like the Bats are starting to wake up.
(16:44):
Problem with the Mets the pitching staff, the relievers are
tired with all the injuries to the starting pitchers, to
the starting staff. Like a lot of teams, the bullpen
is overused and right now you could see the effects
of the Mets. So they're gonna have to make a
deal for a reliever, which Stern said that they definitely
(17:08):
are going to so we just have to see him
wait for the trade deadline. Like Chris said, that's what.
Speaker 6 (17:12):
We're waiting for.
Speaker 2 (17:13):
We're waiting for it this this week and I guess
the next.
Speaker 6 (17:20):
Nope, Rosen in time sellers.
Speaker 1 (17:24):
Okay, going all right, Jacob, what's going on in your town?
Speaker 6 (17:27):
Well, I'll do two towns. I'm doing Atlanta here and
I'll do my old town in Quins, Illinois.
Speaker 1 (17:32):
Just for the thing.
Speaker 6 (17:34):
The Atlanta right now, they're gonna be selling, you know,
for the as the you know, it's main thing right now.
I'm just having a hope and a wish that the
Cubs would go get someone like either Spencer Schwellenbach or Ronalcon.
The schwellen box hurt anyway, So nothing else going on there.
They're gonna sell regardless of anything. And they're probably gonna
lose Snicker, who Brian Snicker has been with the organization
(17:56):
fifty years this year between minor leagues and may so
that's a we will not see that again, there's no question.
And Quincy.
Speaker 1 (18:06):
Their team, they have a madad.
Speaker 6 (18:09):
They're a town of about forty thousand people and they
have a semi pro team. They used to be called
the I'm gonna give you a little history here. They
used to be called the Quincy Riverman. That was Kirby
Puckett was with in nineteen eighty one. Then they were
called the Quincy Gems, which actually fits because it was
the Gem City. Now they're the Quincy Doggie Paddlers and
(18:35):
one of the owners is Jeff Jarrett, the wrestler, and
I have to wonder what drugs he was on the
say that that was a good name. But they're just
saying right now they've lost fourteen in a row and
they're dead last in their position. I think I think
thirteen was the games and one was picking that name,
So it's either way though. But overall, nothing too too
(18:56):
much going on. We just know there's a lot of
losing at the two cities that I've talked to right now.
Speaker 1 (19:01):
Hi, Candy.
Speaker 7 (19:04):
Well, Chris and Rob, you guys don't know. Yes, I
live in South Florida, but I'm actually originally from Wisconsin,
so I am a Brewers fan. They have the best
record in baseball right now for a small market team.
That is so awesome and awesome to hear. I just
hope they stay hot. I think they're going to be
(19:26):
adding it the trade deadline if they can. They could
use a good outfield, a good bat. They have some
good pitching, but they need it, you know, a good bat.
And as far as because I am a huge NFL
fan as well, I am a Green Bay Packer girl. Yes,
and they open training camp and for the first time
(19:47):
one of the coolest traditions I think in sports is
the Packers players ride bicycles of kids from the practice
from the training facility into the practice field and today,
for the first time I think ever, a coach rode
(20:07):
the bike down as well, So Matt Leffleura actually rode
the bike. So they opened training camp. I think that's
cool that they still do that tradition. So those are
my two of the things that are happening in my town.
I guess the third thing would be the Milwaukee Bucks.
They obviously we all know le Damian Lillard. They released him.
(20:28):
He signed with Toronto. You know, kudos to him because
that's where his family, all of his family is, that's
where his heart is. Yes. Is it a big hold
a bite for the Bucks to keep paying him, of course,
but kudos to him that he can go back home
and play where you know, in front of his family,
(20:48):
and even his daughter said, you mean, we don't have
to get on a flight to go back to Milwaukee
and stuff like that. And so that's as much as
I'm not happy to see him go, especially the chunk
of money that we have to pay him, I'm happy
for him as a person to be back home with
his family.
Speaker 2 (21:08):
Though.
Speaker 6 (21:09):
Hey, Candy, the thing you talked about the Green Bay
Packers tradition. Just to be very glad you to have
Vince Wullfark on your team. Yes, some kids might have
been very very sad if he had done that.
Speaker 1 (21:24):
Okay, I'll live it my town to his topics. Number one,
let's go to Tallahassee. We're gonna go to Tallahassee because
former FSU coach Jimil Fisher is signed to join the
ACC network and he's getting paid pretty good money by
Texas A and m just to stay away. But now
we get to talk and get paid as well. Hets
(21:45):
to get paid by the ACC network and he getting
Texas A and m Aggie dollars. Number that's number one.
Number Two, there are new renovations over at toe Campbell
Stadium and then have produced the capacity by about twelve
thousand seeds, so approximately sixty eight thousand. The actual numbers
are the originally seventy nine, five hundred and sixty now
to sixty seventeen seventy seven. Candy and I had the
(22:06):
good fortune to go into dope Campbell Stadium. It's a
cool place to go. So here we get a chance
to go to dope Campbell Stadium on Tallahassee. Go ahead
and do it, so more power to them at Florida State.
Candy and I won't see him this year, but we
saw him last year and they see him the last
few years, so they're gonna do some great things at
that stadium. So hey, why not. Tallahassee is a good trip,
So Jimbo Fisher, I guess we're not done listening to
(22:28):
you yet, tesxas they've got a lot of money and
texted and they're paid you to talk, and don't Campbell
Stadium probably be even cushier than it already is.
Speaker 6 (22:39):
Now.
Speaker 1 (22:40):
Some of the drawings that I have actually seen have
been pretty good. Now we're going to talk about some
of our non sports topics tonight, and this is going
to be new for Rob and Chris. But don't worry
you guys will fit in nice because they're very general
and generic, So that's not that big of a deal.
California want Canadian tourism back and is offered twenty five
percent off of one thousand old dolls. What do you think?
(23:00):
Do you think that the Canadians are going to go
out there and be enticed by all of this? I
don't know.
Speaker 4 (23:07):
Does does anybody want to come to our country right now?
I don't know, especially California right I'm not sure.
Speaker 1 (23:14):
I don't know.
Speaker 4 (23:14):
I don't know if Canada, with everything that's gone down,
I don't know if they want to come and visit
us as much as you know they use it. And
it's twenty five percent? Is that really that big of
a you know, a deal? You know you're saving what
twenty five bucks? Maybe fifty bucks if it's a two
hundred dollars hotel room. I don't know. I don't know
if that's really enticing people to come. Has to be
(23:36):
more than that.
Speaker 1 (23:37):
Not fair enough, see you think anywhere? Like God, don't
tell your tail sharp pizza, It's okay, it's good, all right, Katy?
What do you think about that deal? Do you take it?
Speaker 7 (23:46):
You know, we down here in Florida, we see a
lot of Canadians that come down here. You're right, Chris,
at this point, with all the politic political things that
are going on in our country, is it really there's
a lot of people coming down here or not? And
it all remain to be seen. But I agree with you,
twenty five percent off a hotel is not enough to
(24:10):
really entice me to come down and stay for a
length of time.
Speaker 1 (24:15):
All right, Jacob, Nah, just no, not really.
Speaker 6 (24:21):
I mean you're right about the twenty five percent. You're
talking about the twenty five percent, and it's you got
to realize this was the one that had the It
took sixteen years that hit a high speed rail before
it was taken for itself. You know, they couldn't figure
anything out. California cannot figure out their economy. To make it,
it definitely needs to be fifty to seventy five percent.
But in truth, I don't know if Californians and Canadians
(24:45):
are gonna have anything in common to begin with. I
mean they could pretend to be and stuff like that,
but it'll be a lot of a a lot of
a and either yo yo, I'd be New Yorkers already, Dude,
it just be it just be a lot of the
off that it'd be a lot of awkward talk.
Speaker 1 (25:05):
Yeah, what do you think, Robbi've had a chance to
take this or do you take that twenty five percent
of Canada to California?
Speaker 2 (25:12):
Now, I think they're sick of Mickey Mouse first of all,
you know, I don't. I don't think that twenty five
percent is going to entice them. And also the things
that they're seeing right now in La. When when they're
seeing videos of homeless people laying on the Hollywood Walk
of Fame or should I say Walk of Game and
(25:33):
stuff like that. You know, when you hear things about
San Francisco and what happened, what's going on in San Francisco,
you know, it's what's going to entice them. They got
to clean it up, They got to find the place
to put these people. They just have to get everything together.
If they want tourism back from Canada. Not only is
(25:53):
it too expensive, but when they see this stuff, why
come to California?
Speaker 7 (25:59):
No?
Speaker 1 (25:59):
I agree, And you know what, that's an interesting point
that you made, Rob, because I've been to La quite
a few times. That really sunk in even more so
The last time I was there, I was there for
the Southern California Sports Broadcasters meeting out there that I
had with some of my colleagues out there, And when
I saw the homeless people out there, it was really, really,
really sad. So I couldn't agree with you more. But see,
that wasn't too hard. I got an easier one, though
(26:19):
it's a little bit more choice than this one. Ready, guys, Miguel,
get this. The world's first space hotel is set to
launch at twenty to twenty seven with a bar, cinema,
spa more in Earth's orbit. Now, if that'd be tepting, now,
that was different than this. I don't think there'll be
any homeless people in orbit.
Speaker 2 (26:38):
What do you think, Rob, Yeah, no, there won't be
any homeless people. The problem is they got to get
them up there. You know, hopefully it may be Musk, right,
let's say, see he may be the one transporting these
people up there. So let's hope that the rocket doesn't explode.
That's happened a couple of times. You know, it's enticing first,
(26:59):
certain and you know people who want that thrill, Yes,
enticing if it was safe and if I was younger,
I would love to do that, but you know, I
don't know if it's so safe. And I'm not as
young as I used to be.
Speaker 1 (27:12):
The god. This isn't complicated stuff. Guys, you got pizza.
Pizza and Robber are a little bit worried about this
is being Harvard stuff. This isn't Harvard stuff. People that
don't don't sell yourself short. Please reallyily this guy they're
telling good. They're passing their first debt there? All right,
what do you think they're taking? Were you going up
in orbit with all this business?
Speaker 6 (27:33):
No?
Speaker 1 (27:34):
Imagine you're in orbit with your language? We have three
we have.
Speaker 6 (27:40):
Three years left for him to call it the Trump
Hotel in space.
Speaker 1 (27:43):
There, Jacob's in orbit because he thinks I came up
with a topic that was in orbit. And he's right
because he's said, oh, what is he gonna come up
with next? Don't worry, I got something.
Speaker 6 (27:52):
It's just kind of crazy.
Speaker 1 (27:56):
So would you go to orbit taking?
Speaker 7 (27:58):
No?
Speaker 1 (27:59):
Okay, what about you, Candy? We just came from Europe.
Maybe is orbit different?
Speaker 7 (28:04):
Why not? Let's go for it.
Speaker 1 (28:05):
Let it fi great. If there's a way to shoot
a video and for me to talk behind the microphone,
I'll do it. I'm going back to Orbit. I don't
think what do they got a bar? Cinema as fall.
I'll tell you that my sixty two year old body
can use that at cinema. I can't keep my mouth
shutting the cinema. So I got a problem with that
one and a bar as long as I got a
lot of diet coke And if you want to give
(28:27):
me a few, Uh, what do you call those old
strawberry Margarita's? Really loaded?
Speaker 6 (28:32):
Boy?
Speaker 1 (28:32):
I like the way they have them over a blackrock frozen.
Those are darn good drinks. And I it will totally
shut me up and might contain me a little bit.
But I'm gone to Orbit. What about you pizza?
Speaker 7 (28:42):
Uh?
Speaker 5 (28:43):
You know what, I don't want to be the first
one up there. I'll let other people go first.
Speaker 1 (28:46):
All right, I'll be first and you could go second.
Speaker 5 (28:49):
Yeah, I'll let other people test it out first.
Speaker 1 (28:51):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (28:51):
I'll take the seventy five percent off.
Speaker 4 (28:53):
Yeah, yeah, you know what. I'll start in California with
the twenty five percent off. I'll hang out with Jacob.
You know, we'll complain about our teams. I'll let everybody
go out for the first few months and then and
then I'll fly up there.
Speaker 1 (29:06):
And I'm gonna tell you one thing to say about
those twenty five percent off. If you've ever been to California,
you do have to get over to Santa Monica Pier.
That's an unbelievable place. And if you want to go
to Rodeo Drive or road Dale Drive, whatever the heck
could call it, that's pretty good place out there. A
little bit of money out there. There's a great jelly
that I went. I'll never forget when I went out
there with a friend of mine and Candy was with
(29:26):
one of her best friends here in the area. And
I'll tell you that Delly is to dive for. I
don't remember what it is, but it was awesome stuff
in Beverly Hills. But twenty five percent don't get you
very farm Beverly Hills. I'm going to Orbit. I get
came from Europe. I'm ready. I'm roadsick if I go
to Orbit. I'm going. Some people already think I'm there. Anyways,
what's the difference. I'll tell you what. We're gonna go
(29:47):
to a quick station break. We're getting started. I'm gonna
give you some words of wisdom when we come back. Go, hey,
can't he We'll go to our first station break and
if Willie doesn't get here, well, just keep rolling along.
We'll big deal Willie. Well, we'll bring him on the
next week and we'll see when we come on. All right.
Speaker 7 (30:03):

Speaker 1 (31:30):
Back to you, Scott, Thank you, Katie. I'm going to
start off with some words of wisdom. Then we're going
to talk about a colleague of mine that I actually
knew when I was in for Laurao. Where's a wisdom
coming from Warren Buffett? He says, you know what, it
takes twenty years to build a reputation in five minutes
to ruin it. So if you think about that, you'll
do things differently. What do you think rock you like college?
(31:51):
What mister Buffett has to say? Yeah, I like it.
Speaker 2 (31:54):
Another thing he said which I found interesting, He said
this recently. He said, if you have a thousand dollars
to invest, you don't have to have a lot of money.
Put five hundred on Amazon and five hundred on Coca Cola.
I don't know, the man knows what he's talking about.
But isn't it a little too late for both of those?
(32:15):
With just five hundred dollars? How are you going to
get rich off of that?
Speaker 1 (32:19):
I'll take that. What do you think, Jacob, he's.
Speaker 6 (32:21):
Ninety four years old. I mean, you got to realize this.
He's he's still using an advocatest to count but I mean,
but still, but no, I mean, I love him at Warren.
But in truth though, you got to realize he was saying,
it takes twenty years to build rotation five minutes ago.
I've spent twenty years saying a bunch of things that
should get me fired in about five minutes, you know,
(32:44):
to kill my reputation, and I get away with it
all the time.
Speaker 1 (32:47):
So that is that? What do you think, Candy?
Speaker 7 (32:51):
I think you can compare also your reputation to your
credit score. You can ruin that in five minutes flat.
But it takes you twenty years to build it. So
I agree that you know, reputation takes a while, but
it doesn't take long to ruin it.
Speaker 1 (33:10):
Well, I do you, Pizza?
Speaker 4 (33:12):
I agree? But you know what, in certain situations, people
have a have a short term memory, right, they will
forget about whatever this person does that's not good. So
I think in certain situations, totally agree. Business wise, yes,
but we've seen in social media out there and with
(33:32):
the stars and everything else, a person could do something
really bad, and you know what, a few months go by,
people forget about it and they move on.
Speaker 1 (33:42):
Well, tell you what, I'm gonna go to a reference
in my book. Al Campanis went on ANBC News Nightline. Right,
of course, you guys are baseball guys, aren't you. I
think particular race could manage It took him all a
few minutes with Ted Copple on ABC News Nightline, get
fired by the LA Dodgers, a team that takes civil
(34:03):
rights very seriously. So you talk about Warren Buffett's comments
being so true. Let's go back to Al Campanis, and
I got to know Al Campanis back to the Winter
Baseball Winner meetings, and he want really nice guy, but
unfortunately and then he made a mistake. In fact, not
not only that, since I have a couple of baseball
guys on here, I had Fred Clare on this show,
and Fred felt so bad for him, and he said, man,
(34:25):
I wish he wouldn't have done that. We warned him
not to do stuff like that, but all of a
sudden he did it. And you talk about career suicide,
that was definitely it. So everything mister Buffett is saying
definitely has a lot of relevance to it. So I
want to go and I want to send a few
prayers out to my colleague, an LA Times column thiss
informer around the Horn panels Bill flashed me as he is.
(34:49):
He reveals that he's been battling Parkinson's disease for the
last four years. We all know what we all associated
with Muhammad Ali. I've interviewed Muhammad Ali as well. Whether
you're a player or not a player, Parkinson's is not.
It stinks. I mean, Michael J. Fox is going through
it and I've had shows on it. What's your perception
of Rob about Parkinson's disease and what Bill has to
(35:12):
go through right now?
Speaker 2 (35:15):
Didn't he cover the Dodgers's he covered the Dodgers right.
Speaker 1 (35:19):
Right, and that he used to work for the Fort
Lauderdelle Sun sent so many years ago when I met him.
But yes, he moved out to the Dodgers.
Speaker 2 (35:25):
Correct, Okay, yeah, well it's it's a tough thing. Look,
Ozzie Osborne has died right yesterday. Michael J.
Speaker 1 (35:33):
Fox.
Speaker 2 (35:33):
Parkinson's bad. My uncle had it for twenty years. He
every time you saw him, he would just shake, shake, shake,
and it just got worse. It progressed, horrible disease. Hopefully,
you know, they could.
Speaker 1 (35:48):
Michael J.
Speaker 2 (35:49):
Fox has been raising so much money for this, and
you know, like anything else, it takes a long time.
They got to figure out what's going on. Harrible thing.
Speaker 6 (35:58):
You know.
Speaker 2 (35:59):
My heart goes out to him and his family.
Speaker 6 (36:02):
Well like you, Jacob, Yeah, you brought up a Hosie.
It's like one of the things is in two weeks
before he has a final concert, has to sit down
in his bathroom. You know, good for him, though, you
know what I mean, it is his world and he
and but you know something, you think about all of
this and it's like Ozzi did it the right way.
(36:23):
Had his final thing in front forty thousand people and
then he just kind of faded away, and and the
thing is, in truth, that's the way we all should do,
regardless of it is probably it's like and you've got
to hope that Bill Plashki, to the best of his ability,
stays active in some which way. One of the things
one of my favorite actors is Alan Alda. He got
Parkinson's about seven eight years ago and he ended up
(36:45):
taking boxing classes because they do boxing classes. Has been
known to do combinations like on the bag and stuff
like that and help your brain continue and it slows
down the it slows down all of the symptoms. So
it's one of those things. I hope that Flashi or
sometimes they'll do music therapy and stuff like that. I
hope they're doing those kind of deals, those kind of
(37:05):
therapies for them right now. And so down there it's
a hideous disease.
Speaker 1 (37:10):
Yeah, it really is. All right. Willly joins the group
here just in time for a little nank g All right,
who we have, We got Candy and then we're gonna
put Willy on this topic and then we're good to
the rest of them. Thanks for popping in, Willie. We
appreciate you. Glad you made a big guy. All right, So,
Kendy what yourys talks about. But Bill Plashki is going through.
Speaker 7 (37:28):
Tough disease. One thing I will say, and I hope
you don't mind me saying this. Scott, at one point
you were diagnosed misdiagnosed with Parkinson's, so it can be misdiagnosed.
It is not a pretty disease. It's not a pretty
disease to watch somebody have either. Not only do they struggle,
(37:52):
but the caregivers struggle with them. And just said, I
hope they I hope with all the money that Michael J.
Fox is raised, that they find a cure sometime soon.
Speaker 1 (38:05):
And Pizza. All right, well you got some new teammates
that they got pizza and you got Rob Okay, you
gotta like Willie. He's he's a cool cat. Here's a
what do you got to say about Bill Plasky.
Speaker 4 (38:17):
Yeah, no, it's it's just really sad news. And you know,
I think Jacob said it right. You know, hopefully hopefully
they try these different things with him to kind of
just slow down the progress of the disease, you know,
and he could still stay busy and what he does best,
you know, but hopefully all these you know, all these
other therapies that that.
Speaker 5 (38:38):
Could that could possibly help him. Hopefully they give it
a shot, you know.
Speaker 4 (38:42):
And if I'm if I'm going through that, I'm saying, hey,
I'll try anything, right, because you want to you want
to live as long as you want, you know, you
want to see your kids, your grandkids and all that.
So yeah, I'm praying for him. I'm hoping that everything
works out for him and and he could just slow
down this disease as much as possible, and and hope
with all these all these charities and everything that you mentioned, Ozzie.
(39:05):
Ozzie raised over two hundred million dollars with that concert
a few weeks ago. So I mean he went out
on top. If if if there's a way to go
out on top, that's the way to go out, you know,
doing what you love best and raising over two hundred
million dollars for charity. So so yeah, let's just just
hope and pray the best for him.
Speaker 1 (39:23):
All right, Great, Jo Willie, what we're gonna do We're
gonnalet you talk about plastic. I'm gonna give you a
couple of other things that you can catch up on
as well. And then we got and I saved a
lot of the other stuff when you got on here.
So the time he couldn't have been any better for
you to get in here, which is raised stuff. Okay,
First of all, what are you talking about what Bill
Plaski is going through with Parkinson's.
Speaker 8 (39:40):
Well, first of all, thank you again for whoa what's
going on here?
Speaker 1 (39:45):
I don't know.
Speaker 8 (39:47):
Uh oh, I don't think guys.
Speaker 1 (39:49):
That's right. I'm not that smart enough to figure that
stuff out. Don't ask you that stuff.
Speaker 8 (39:53):
Oh my goodness, I can't even hear all right, I'll
hear you.
Speaker 1 (39:57):
Yeah, we hear you.
Speaker 8 (39:57):
Good, you can hear me. Good, Okay, yeah, get in Yeah.
Speaker 9 (40:01):
First of all, thank you guys for having me back again.
And uh, sorry for my tardiness. I had to try
to get one of my teammates squared away. But anyway,
Parkinson's disease, we've seen it just wrecked the lives of
so many great, great athletes, great people.
Speaker 8 (40:20):
I know there's there's not really a quote unquote cure
for it, but I agree with.
Speaker 9 (40:26):
Everybody on the panel in terms of the medical advancements,
in terms of research that have been made.
Speaker 8 (40:34):
Hopefully and prayer fully for.
Speaker 9 (40:37):
Mister mister Bill and his family that they can slow
it down as much as possible and he can continue
to lead at least somewhat of.
Speaker 8 (40:46):
A long life, long healthy life. You talk about Michael J. Fox,
and most.
Speaker 9 (40:52):
Recently before that, before Ozzy Osborne, of course was Dave
Parker who who also died it. So it's just us
we're losing. We're losing people to this dreaded disease, and
hopefully he'll be the one that can somehow crack the
code and live a sustained life.
Speaker 1 (41:15):
Yeah, Barry Melrose of the National Hockey League also got
it too bad because I like watching Barry on the NHL.
I will we'll bring up to pet on a couple
of other ones. It's the words of wisdom from Warren Buffett.
It says it takes twenty years to build a reputation
in five minutes. Saruna, If you think about that, you know,
do things differently. What do you think about what mister
Buffett has to say.
Speaker 9 (41:34):
Well, it's kind of hard not to listen to somebody else,
a multi multi billionaire, you know, right, He's exactly right,
And I'm pretty sure that that has come from some
people that have burned him along the way. At this
point in his life, I'm pretty sure he really doesn't care.
But yeah, it was also Warren Buffett that said the
(41:56):
way that wealth is not by one hundred percent of
your own effort, by one percent of ninety nine other
people's efforts, and that's how you get wealthy.
Speaker 8 (42:03):
So that that guy has that guy has uh as
barbs for days.
Speaker 1 (42:12):
Okay, you know what you're gonna like these non sports
topics because these guys all ate them up alive, all right,
so we'll see what you think about them, willing all right?
California wants Canadian tourism back and is offered twenty five
percent off a one thousand hotels. What do you think
about that? Do you want to the Canadians really want
to go to California?
Speaker 8 (42:28):
Wait a minute, say it again. I didn't hear it.
Speaker 1 (42:31):
Yeah, a lot of people wouldn't want to hear this one,
but that's okay. California wants Canadian tourism back and is
offered twenty five percent off at one thousand hotels. Would
you take that deal?
Speaker 4 (42:41):
Heck, yeah you would?
Speaker 1 (42:43):
Okay, I mean twenty five percent off at one thousand hotels.
Speaker 9 (42:49):
At one thousand hotels, now, I guess it kind of
depends on which hotel it is, because it is Best
Western or Super.
Speaker 8 (42:56):
Eight or he kind of lodge, then no pass.
Speaker 9 (43:00):
But if we're talking at least a three to four
star type of facility, heck yeah, why not?
Speaker 1 (43:08):
Okay? Okay, Canada? According to Willie, all right, next one,
I got it one even better? Okay, And I didn't
have to have canteen to dream from this one up,
the world's first space hotel is set to launch at
twenty twenty seven, with a bar, cinema, spa, and more
and Earth's arm it. What do you think of that?
Will you want to go to the army?
Speaker 4 (43:27):
You want to go?
Speaker 1 (43:28):
You want to go in one of those space hotels?
Speaker 8 (43:34):
M No, I think I'm the past.
Speaker 6 (43:38):
Think of the views, traffic up there, A lot.
Speaker 8 (43:43):
Of great views in my time. I don't know if
my heart is ready for something like that.
Speaker 1 (43:50):
All right, last thing, I'm gonna do that. Then we're
gonna get to the red the other topics here? All right?
My town? What's going on here? Town? Will it?
Speaker 8 (43:57):
My town? Okay?
Speaker 9 (43:58):
So I was around my little town of Fate, Texas
earlier today. And Fate, Texas is in Rockwall County, which
is about forty five minutes northeast of Dallas. So I
was riding around and discovered that we are getting our
very first high school.
Speaker 8 (44:17):
Built on the north end of town.
Speaker 9 (44:20):
So my entrepreneurial spirit got the thinking, you know what,
I'm going to contact the city hall and see when
this school is going to be finished. And then the
city hall sent me to the school district. Now, even
though the town is Fate and the county is Rockwall,
the school district is Roy City, which is up the
road about three exits.
Speaker 8 (44:41):
So they pointed me to them.
Speaker 9 (44:43):
And what I did, or what my inclination is in
my manifestation hope will be that I can get some
some members of my team and we can begin to
cover the athletics at this brand new high school that's
coming to our town.
Speaker 1 (45:02):
All right, here we go. Title of the show says,
Matt Ryan Hall of Fame. Were they, well, does Matt
Ryan deserve to be in the Hall of Fame? Well, wait,
what do you think does he deserve to be in
the Hall of Fame? To a good job at CBS,
and now we're talking Hall of Fame.
Speaker 8 (45:16):
I'm gonna say I'm gonna say no.
Speaker 9 (45:19):
I'm gonna say no, because it is the Hall of Fame,
not the Hall of real good, not the Hall.
Speaker 8 (45:27):
Of good Enough.
Speaker 9 (45:28):
He's got he's got stellar numbers, He's got a few
Pro Bowl appearances. I think that even though he wasn't
the reason why he was the quarterback and twenty eight
to three will leave a forever staying on his resume.
So I don't think he gets in. That's not to
(45:50):
say I don't want him to, because I actually like
Matt Ryan as a player. I loved when he was
the number one overall pick coming out of Boston College.
Those Atlanta, those Atlanta, those Atlanta Falcon teams, some of them,
some of them were really good. Some people will say
that he may have even he may have underperformed with
the lights of Roddy White and Julio Jones and Harry
(46:11):
Douglass and all the rest of those guys. Michael de Burner, Turner. Uh,
even Devontae Smith for or Devonte Uh. What was Devonte's
last name?
Speaker 8 (46:19):
A running back? I forgot his name. He went to
Florida State.
Speaker 9 (46:23):
Vont Freeman. Yeah, Davonte Freeman. Some may even say that
he underachieved with all that talent, but I don't think
that he gets seen just based on those things. But
I'm hoping that he does.
Speaker 6 (46:35):
Didn't he get work, didn't he have worked done for
the law?
Speaker 8 (46:37):
He did have work done as well.
Speaker 1 (46:39):
Ye, well, that's a good segue. Let's go over to you,
Jacob your arn neckelaw Woods. Anyways, not I think he.
Speaker 6 (46:47):
Makes it, but not first to ballot, maybe a couple
of ballots up, maybe deadline. Every once in a blue moon,
a Hall of Fame will run into a situation where
they don't have the Meggas stars. What if he's beginning,
if he's in a megastar based year, he's not gonna
make it. They're just not gonna take it over again,
especially with that they brought up the Super Bowl thing.
(47:08):
He's had the absolutely stellar numbers that he's brought up.
He is a really good quarterback, but he's been pretty
shoddy in the playoffs where it matters. So I think
somewhere down the line, near the end of the Veterans deal,
near the end of his original ballot, I think he
(47:32):
makes it, but it'll be like fourth or fifth ballot.
Somewhere along the line. I just I think they're just
gonna do it when they need someone that's gonna probably
be the main event of the show and gonna be him.
Speaker 1 (47:44):
Absolute boys, what do you think, Ron?
Speaker 6 (47:47):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (47:47):
See, I was gonna say a direct no, because listen,
we know how important the super Bowl is to get
into the Hall of Fame. One super Bowl and they
blow that lead. I can't get over that lead, all right,
twenty eight to three, and then they lose the game.
Speaker 1 (48:04):
So I you know, he's on the line.
Speaker 2 (48:07):
He's one of the he's one of those quarterbacks that
are on the line that could go either way. But
listening to Jacob, you know that that makes sense. Maybe
he goes in a year where there's there aren't big names.
Somebody's got to go in. I think that's his best shot.
But you know it's not gonna be for a while,
and not enough. You know, he's just not a great quarterback. Yes,
(48:30):
I liked him, but that's that Super Bowl is a
big stain.
Speaker 1 (48:34):
On his career. All right, Candy, what do you think?
Speaker 7 (48:39):
He played fifteen years? In twenty sixteen, he was voted
NFL Most Valuable Player. Just because you didn't win the
Super Bowl means you're not gonna get into the I
have a hard time with that. He also is ranks
(49:01):
in the league's all time top ten in past attempts,
pass completions, passing yards, and passing touchdowns. And you're gonna
tell me that someone that ranks in all four of
those categories in the top ten, you're not gonna put
him in the Hall of Fame just because he hasn't
won a Super Bowl. I don't know, not me, I'd
(49:22):
put him in.
Speaker 1 (49:24):
What about you? Pizza Pizza man necessarily stands out. You know,
I bring a guy on here. He's got the best
name on the planet, I swear to God. Do they
call him pizza a lot of times on the air too?
Speaker 6 (49:35):
No?
Speaker 4 (49:36):
No, but they will now, Yeah, I think, guy, I think.
Speaker 1 (49:45):
I have a pizza on the air. And now every
time I Getza get this here, hold on, every time
I get Joshua thor And and I get cyber rusk
ot here, what do you have for dinner? I got
pizza here, Shut up and get out of here. Stick
the man. I got a pizza on here. What a luxury?
Speaker 6 (50:01):
You know what?
Speaker 4 (50:02):
Yeah, he's one of those borderline guys, But Candy brought
it up. I mean, this guy's a top ten in
all the stats, right, touchdowns, yards, pass attempts, all of that.
But you could also flip that on the other side too.
It's it's a different league now, right, It's a passing league,
so guys are going to rack up those kind of yards.
But he still did it right. He's still I think
(50:23):
eighth in yards, eighth and touchdowns and not to me,
he sells a lot. He's an MVP former Rookie of
the Year too.
Speaker 1 (50:28):
I believe.
Speaker 5 (50:31):
Pro Bowl four times ap one year, I think, and
I think Jacob said it right.
Speaker 4 (50:37):
He's not gonna get first ballot, no, but I think
eventually down the line he's gonna get in. On one
of the ballots that are kind of thin, He's gonna
get in, just like the the baseball ballot this coming
year next year is super thin. So whoever was borderline
is probably gonna get pushed in.
Speaker 5 (50:54):
But yeah, I think eventually he gets in.
Speaker 1 (50:56):
Yeah, that's a good point, Pizza, It really doesn't wropt.
I think we're onto something, Rob. What do you think
one man, Hey, Yilsten, if he can't go into country
club tomorrow, I think you should go on tomorrow. What
do you think Rob with Candy. I'm just saying, but
here's what I think. Number One, Matt Ryan inherited a
complete mess when he had to go behind Michael Vick
and all the PR that went behind the dog fighting.
(51:19):
So you had an image clean up in Atlanta, and
everybody knows that he came from Boston College and we
know that Doug Blooty came from there, and Matt Ryan
did a pretty good job cleaning up that PR mess
that was Michael Vick. Number two, Nor was the time
when everybody thought that Dan Marino's record wouldn't be broken,
and how many people have passed it to different age.
(51:40):
So yeah, I think Matt Ryan should go in. Timing
will depend on who comes out in any given year,
because I know, having been to a few Super Bowls myself,
how they're voting works new vent for my guy one year,
I'll vote for years that It depends on how everything
is all juggled around. So I'm going to give Matt
Ryan an affirmative. I guess it was a tough Super
Bowl by You're only losing to Tom Brady. My God,
(52:02):
can't hold that against him, right, how many other people
watching Tom Brady Sick, Thilller really Thursday, really, and I
haven't had that much caffeine. Tonight. I had a hockey guy,
a general manager from New York. Okay, Neil Smith. Okay,
remember have you never heard Neil Smith? Willie? Okay? All
he did was the nineteen ninety four Sanley Cup Championship.
(52:25):
He's on the big show earlier and now we're talking
about I had that much caffeine and he thought he
had a good time. Well why am I saying all this?
It's fun having you guys around his fun. But bottom
line is I still think Michael Vick doesn't get in
the Hall of Fame. But the guy that does get
in the Hall of Fame is Matt Ryan, who went
behind Michael Vick. And by the way, Tony Dungee had
(52:45):
a lot to do with getting Michael Vick on the
right track.
Speaker 6 (52:47):
I can I ask you a question about Neil Smith.
Is he like Al Bundy? He brings up the ninety
four of Stanley cub Like Albany, he brought four touchdowns
of the game.
Speaker 1 (52:56):
I'm sorry it was that question again, Jack said.
Speaker 6 (52:58):
I said, is NEI Neils s be like Al Bundy
like you bring up the ninety four Stanley Cup, like
Al Bundy brings up four touchdowns.
Speaker 1 (53:05):
And yeah, that never came up in conversation. But he's
such a good guy. I went into some of my
hey for tomorrow because he was answering so many great
questions and I ended up going to my show for
tomorrow for for Trand So this guy is great.
Speaker 6 (53:18):
I'm glad you had a good one.
Speaker 1 (53:19):
Oh it was fantastic. Neil Smith's grade and averly is.
I mean, he was the architect of that ninety four
out Rangers championship. He really did an unbelievable and he
won with Mike Keenan that he give him a double
gold medal right there. That Keenan didn't last very long,
but he got it right with him. And I'll tell
you what a good show to lead in was right
(53:41):
with a Stanley Cup champion. Now, I got you, guys,
I got I got a Fonso and the Rob on
the show to go along with the rest of his group.
Speaker 6 (53:48):
Great stuff, Mike Keenan, the Andy Sipplewitz of the hockey.
Speaker 1 (53:54):
So yeah, so Willie, you're getting all this. I hope
you are anyway, So I don't know if he is,
he isn't. If he isn't, well, do the best you can.
I don't know. So is it a down and out
in Beverly Hills? Will he or you want to try
to come back in? I don't know. Katy, go ahead
and talk of my message. See what he wants to
do me. Well, we'll continue to talk baseball, mel but well,
(54:15):
all due respect, I'm going to give Randy thumbs up
and see if he wants to come in. So we'll
go ahead and figure this thing out here. And you
know what, let's go ahead and do another station break, Candy,
Well you do that.
Speaker 7 (54:30):

Speaker 1 (55:47):
Beck you Scott, all right, Kady, we'll tell you, well
what Lily longs back. Then we're gonna talk basketball. But
meanwhile we're gonna go ahead and talk a little bit
of baseball.
Speaker 6 (55:57):
Up.
Speaker 1 (55:57):
These guys will help anyway. Two time also our teens
thirty five and ounces of retirement from MLB after twelve season.
He retires with to anyone average with fifteen hundred and
forty five hundred ten or home runs five hundred and
thirteen RBI two hundred, leven Stone and Basos who played
with the Angels or Brewers and Diamondbacks, the Mariners, affilies
of the Marlins. Okay, Rob, what are your talks about
(56:19):
James Sagura.
Speaker 2 (56:20):
Well, he had that great postseason in twenty twenty two
right with the Phillies, which really put that that defined
I think that defined him really, But he also led
the National League and hits in twenty sixteen with two
hundred and three. You know, a good player, not great player, journeyman,
(56:46):
you could say, listen he I I what he did
against the card He did he did against the Cardinals
in the postseason, if I remember it was, I think
it was in the UH Wildcard Series on top of
the ninth he he got the single that that won
the game for the Phillies. So he had a good postseason.
(57:09):
I wasn't happy about it, being a met fan, you
know that was and we don't want to talk about
the Phillies or the Philly fans right now, but you know,
a good ball player, not great, of course, not Hall
of Fame worthy, but a decent he you know, he
had fifteen hundred hits, right, he had over fifteen hundred hits.
Speaker 1 (57:29):
I mean he was very, very good, but he wasn't greete.
So Rob, is that a nine ninety five thing, is
what you're trying to tell me? Yeah, I know, don't worry.
We're on the other end of the ninety five way way,
so that I'm thinking that drive all right, Candy, you
gotta taste of cigarl? What do you think about Gino Cigar?
(57:53):
I gave you the stance this time. Now you got
to give me an opinion. He thanks.
Speaker 7 (58:02):
Do I think he's Hall of Fame where they know
Was he a good player?
Speaker 3 (58:05):
Yes?
Speaker 7 (58:06):
Was he good to have on the Was he a
good team player?
Speaker 6 (58:08):
Yes?
Speaker 7 (58:10):
One of the things his walk percentage of four percent
was tied for the sixth lowest in Major League Baseball.
Speaker 4 (58:19):
You know, he had.
Speaker 7 (58:24):
He had a way about him of he was fast.
He would he would steal. I think he had a
lot of steals if I remember correctly. In his career too.
He had longevity too. That makes a difference these days.
He was actually born in nineteen ninety in the Dominican
(58:44):
He actually won, not in America. But when he kind
of looked for the stat because I had it just
a minute ago. He actually won a batting title when
he played overseas. So but do I think he's Hall
of fame where they know? But he was a good
a good player.
Speaker 1 (59:05):
All right, Pizza, what do you think?
Speaker 4 (59:08):
Yeah, not a Hall of fame, but you know, nice,
solid career. You know what, you last twelve years in
the major leagues. That's something I don't care if you
were an All Star or not. You know, this guy
two time All Star, like Rob said, he led the
league in hits one year. He had a good the
postseason that he had with the Phillies when they made
it to the World Series that year.
Speaker 5 (59:28):
That was the only time he ever played in the
postseason as well in his entire career. So that's saying
something as well.
Speaker 4 (59:35):
But yeah, he was a it was a you know,
good player. I'm not even gonna say very good. He
was just a good, solid player, you know, good teammate.
Speaker 1 (59:43):
He played.
Speaker 4 (59:44):
He played a lot. He didn't didn't miss many games.
From twenty thirteen to twenty twenty twenty one, the guy
played at least one hundred and twenty five games, which
saying a lot, especially now we see a lot of
these guys they miss, you know, games, for you know,
you a bleak injury or something whatever it is. Yeah,
hang now whatever a cough? So but yeah, I mean
(01:00:09):
the guy, the guy. The guy showed up and played good,
solid player, played a couple of physicians. Guy you want
on your team?
Speaker 9 (01:00:16):
Right?
Speaker 4 (01:00:17):
So? But nothing, you know, like I said, a twelve
year career is nothing to be ashamed about, no matter what.
I don't care how good of bad you were. Twelve
years in the majors. Good for him, nice career.
Speaker 1 (01:00:29):
Can you got a fan out there at Fernando.
Speaker 6 (01:00:32):
President?
Speaker 1 (01:00:37):
You appreciate you? All?
Speaker 2 (01:00:37):
Right?
Speaker 1 (01:00:37):
What do you think about jeans the girl?
Speaker 6 (01:00:41):
You know these we all I can tell you all
of this. Every single one of us grew up in
a bygone era of baseball and jeans the girl is
basically the last of it. It's the journeyman, utility, the
knife player, just being honest as much as they had
money roles. This is not a Hall of Famer fifteen
(01:01:02):
hundred hits everything. Get a billion things to help the team,
that helps team chemistry. This is where I talk about.
This is where I talk about, like on specific shows
all the time, that what analytics will miss out of
everything we all go. I mean it's like whether it's
like the batting, whether you know, they all want to
(01:01:23):
they all want to try to go for the big
pop home run, they want to do everything. Everyone wants
to simplify and do everything. We miss the point of
we need the role player like that. We need these
on the team to be able to help the chemistry.
Not everybody has to be a Hall of Famer. This
is not Earl Weaver baseball from the day, This is
not MLB two K twenty five. This isn't anything where
(01:01:46):
you make your own team. You need the variety of people.
And in the time that we have right now, as
the time goes on, we're not gonna have to make
geants of girls anymore. So you know it's by time
we don't have to have a Hall of famerrole And
it's like you need just somebody that can help the
team and get the chemistry, help out in the locker
room with the young guys. And he was able to
(01:02:07):
do that. That's a twelve year career. The average in
the average amount of time in a major leagues in
the NFL and the NBA is like three years, so
that's four times more. So congratulations to him and he'll
probably go be a coach.
Speaker 1 (01:02:22):
Now, you know, That's what I was just gonna say.
You know what, I'm going to pick up where you're at. Okay, Jacob,
great career, nothing to be ashamed of, made a fair
amount of money, very professional, and I think he is
not done with baseball. He'll be a baseball lifer and
he will be a coach. How many Latin coaches are
there to begin with? They're coaching Jeans, the girl will
be the next one. What a career this guy has had,
for sure, some more power to him. Sometimes players have
(01:02:45):
to know when to get out at the right time.
Jean felt it was just time to get out the
right time. But we have not the last two teams
a girl. All right. With that said, let's continue on baseball.
The Houston Astros now have seventeen players on the injured list.
The latest it was Lance mcculler's junior you get a
right finger blister cause for concerned? How active are they
(01:03:06):
going to be at the deadline? Rob the Astros?
Speaker 6 (01:03:08):
That is?
Speaker 2 (01:03:13):
I think the Astros is going to make some moves
they have to. I think, like we said before, I
still got to give it a week or two to
see who's gonna be really active and who's gonna be buyers,
who's gonna be sellers. You know, I still have to
see about another week or or so of baseball to
really let you know. But you know, the Astros always
(01:03:36):
seem to make a move or two, so you know
I wouldn't count them out without without being buyers. But
I still need a week or two.
Speaker 1 (01:03:48):
Okay, what do you think, Jacob.
Speaker 6 (01:03:52):
We're gonna see. I mean, just the fact that they
have seventeen injuries and they're still in a buying mode
tells you how good they are with this, you know
what I mean. And we lost to Rob for a second,
but I'm sure we'll get him back too. But the
but I mean, you get all of this, You get
all this, and I mean, that's that's wonderful that they're
even in the buyer's thing, knowing how many issues. And
(01:04:12):
that's the point I make with teams. It's everything can
happen and things to cave in. And it's that that
I'm bringing up in the Pundit's Pundits segment. It's those
type of teams when everything starts to cave are you
thinking for yourself or are you getting everything, And this
is Houston's giving me my example there for a second,
Houston is actually building the example. It's like, if everything's
(01:04:35):
caving in, they're still winning.
Speaker 1 (01:04:38):
Yeah, that's true. Well, here's what I'm going to give
you my take on this before I turn over to Candy.
Number one. Well, let's talk about the Pittsburgh Pirates. Earlier
in the week, they were a game under five hundred
in their history the time they won. Three year old
gets the Detroit Tigers, who are dealing with some injury
issues themselves. We'll see what happens with them as the
trade deadline, but I think Houston's gon to make a
(01:05:00):
move or two before Chul said and done. But I
give them a lot of credit. They're still playing good
baseball despite the fact that they have a mashing it
out on the field. More power to them, But the
Tigers have some work to do. The Pirates are an
absolute embarrassment, is what they are, and we'll end up
seeing what's going on there. So I like the Houston Astros.
I really always have. They fought the Tigers beat them
(01:05:20):
last year, but it'll be interesting to see if they
make a move or two as well. Then Pirates well,
all right, so you got three games, Jacobs prediction of
Bob Nutting being the worst owner will come to fruition.
We'll just have to dwell on it next week, all right, Katy.
Speaker 6 (01:05:36):
They already had that.
Speaker 1 (01:05:37):
Yeah, I know exactly, and I use it on the
Baseball Show on Monday night. So great self, Jacob, your
fuel to broadcast. I appreciate your pout. All right, Candy,
go ahead.
Speaker 7 (01:05:47):
So the Astros have a six game lead over Seattle
in the Al West. Even if they're as injury prone
as they have been, they're still find away. To be
honest with you, it's kind of surprising, and I didn't
really look at it until now, but there is how
(01:06:10):
many teams that are so close together at the top.
If you think about it, the Toronto Blue Jays are
sixty and forty two, The Tigers are sixty and forty three.
The Astros are sixty and forty two. In the National League,
you have the Cubs at sixty and forty two. Yeah,
the Brewers are sixty one and forty one. The Dodgers
(01:06:30):
are sixty and forty three. So I don't know that
I've ever seen so many teams that are at the
top that are right there, that are so close. Normally
you have one team that's really like hitting it out
of the ballpark and ahead of everybody, and you don't
have that. Even with all the injuries, they're still making
(01:06:51):
it work. So kudos to them. Will they be I'm
guessing they'll be buyers. I'm guessing they're gonna find it,
you know, help with some of that injury injuries that
they have out there. But they're sitting pretty They're sitting
pretty good right now.
Speaker 1 (01:07:08):
I'd say, all right, Pizza's got the last word on
this one. They have bad eyesight tonight, because I'll tell
you what, David Copperfields entered the building, I think, so yeah, okay,
but Pizza is still in the building going and give
me your take.
Speaker 5 (01:07:27):
I think what Candy said is perfect, you know. I mean,
they got a six game lead.
Speaker 4 (01:07:31):
They're playing for the number one seed overall in the
American League, so yeah, they're definitely not selling. If they
were doing bad. Yeah, I think framber Valdez might have
been sold because he's going into his free agency year.
But now, I mean, you know, you're playing for the
number one seed, so yeah, I would assume they're going
to go for it. The pitching looks really good, maybe
(01:07:52):
they add a bat to that lineup. You know, the
problem right now in baseball is there's not many sellers,
you know, that are out there, so you know, everybody's
kind of waiting. They're waiting for these chips to fall,
for like say Arizona to decide, all right, we're going
to sell because they got some good ships to sell.
You know, teams like the Twins, teams like the Royals.
(01:08:13):
There's teams out there that are not really ready to
sell yet. But you know we'll getting to that point
because next week is the trade deadline, right so this
weekend you might see teams start to put up the
white flag and say, all right, we're going to start selling.
But the Astros are not gonna be one. I would
say they're going to look to add a piece or
two for sure.
Speaker 1 (01:08:32):
Our final topic of the night before we go to
our party shots. We'll see if Rob gets on, but
we're still going to proceed with it. Will He's going
to get it next week. He's still having some technical issues.
No big deal to a basketball topic, but a good one,
and I think a lot of people can relate to it.
This guy actually coaching New York Tips at one point too. Then,
on June twenty, eighth Hall of Fame inductee and head
coach of the nineteighteen seventy nine champion Chattle SuperSonics Lenny
(01:08:57):
Wilkins was honored with a statue outside of Climate. Candy,
your thoughts about him being honored in a place that
he won a championship, and it's inevitable that the Seattle
super Ethonics are going to be coming back during the
next wave of the NBA expansion, Candy, We're gonna start
off with you this time.
Speaker 7 (01:09:14):
Always, it's always an honor to have a statue outside
a place that you had success, because then then you're
you're you're part of history, and people will will know
about you and think, you know, and learn about you
because they'll be like, I mean, for years to come,
they'll be like, who was this guy?
Speaker 1 (01:09:34):
What what did he do?
Speaker 7 (01:09:37):
He was fifty greatest Players in NBA History, NBA's fiftieth
Anniversary All Time Team. He he was a great coach.
He did a lot of great things. Uh, he's top
ten coaches in the NBA.
Speaker 1 (01:09:57):
Yeah, he was incredible, all right, P Do you think.
Speaker 4 (01:10:01):
Definitely deserves it. I mean, he's also a three time
Hall of Famer, NBA Hall of Famer right coach player,
and also an assistant coach with the with the Dream Team.
So yeah, I think it's great, and I think more
teams should put statues up in front of their you know,
arenas and stuff like that. You don't see it enough, right,
I mean, the Mets just did it a couple of
(01:10:22):
years ago with Tom Seaver, and you know, me and
Robin been talking about they probably gonna put Juan Soto
up when he's done with his career. But yeah, I
think listen, Lenny Wilkins definitely deserves that statue in Seattle,
especially if they're gonna get a team again without a doubt.
Speaker 6 (01:10:38):
All right, Robin, let's put the Bets put up a
wild card banner for winning a wildcard once.
Speaker 1 (01:10:42):
So that's true.
Speaker 9 (01:10:44):
They did.
Speaker 1 (01:10:45):
They did well here, Jacob, now that you interject, and
what are your thoughts about Wilt getting his statue outside
in Seattle.
Speaker 6 (01:10:51):
Oh, it's wonder See he has one title in the
nineteen seventy nine. I was born in seventy eight, but I.
Speaker 1 (01:10:57):
Watched that title. I watched that game. That's all before
when they watched.
Speaker 6 (01:11:01):
He was a wonderful He was a wonderful coach. Wonderful coach,
and it shows. It's just see, you don't know me
this big Chris and Rob, I absolutely obliterate fans on
the daily. Hate fans hate absolutely. I mean you have
a peer and utter hate for them, and and them
thinking they know anything. And if they considering he won one,
(01:11:24):
they would think, oh, he's overrated. How many times did
he win? How many times you get to a playoffs?
It's hard to win. It's hard to win, and he
won on the regular and it's tough to be able
to get there. And and most of all, he was
a teacher of the game.
Speaker 1 (01:11:42):
Right, And there's more to.
Speaker 6 (01:11:44):
This than just the somebody's stats that you'll get or
your little TikTok highlights.
Speaker 1 (01:11:49):
Right, excellent points, Rob, What do you think about Lenny
getting his statue outside of the saddle?
Speaker 2 (01:11:54):
Yeah, he deserves it. Three in the Hall of Fame,
three times, right, that's amazing. He was named one of
the fifteen greatest coaches in NBA history. Yeah, he definitely
deserves it. I agree with that one percent.
Speaker 1 (01:12:11):
I'm all in on Lenny Wilkins. I actually saw those
games when he lost the first year, and then they
came back to the following year head Jack Sigmau One,
You're the Marvin Webster ended up going to the next
and he still managed to win with Jack sickmad in Downtown,
Freddy Brown. Those are some pretty good teams that Len
he had there. And the fact is the Sonics, it's
not a matter of if, it's a matter of when
they get there. I'm glad that they put it out there,
and I'm sure Lenny's glad that he wasn't able to
(01:12:32):
see it while he was well. He's alive to do it,
so man, I'm really happy for him. All right, Final
segment of the night, parting shots. Okay, Jacob lead off.
That's I'm gonna make it it.
Speaker 6 (01:12:45):
I'm gonna make my parting shot just like and it's
gonna be toward fans and they get because I want
Robin Chris to understand the thing, because I was gonna
bring this here. If I was to tell any fan
whatsoever what to do, if you want to be able
to yell and scream and holler and say we get
(01:13:05):
rid of this guy, I'll fire this guy, I would say,
go find a minor league. Team or a semi pro
team or anything, and run the team. See how you do.
I would say something like that because one of the
things that one of the biggest faults that I have
and I've made Caleb Williams jokes tonight, but one of
(01:13:26):
the things is everybody knows what I think of him.
But the biggest thing about it is the fact that
they've made decisions based off of that. Maybe it was
a mistake, but at least someone like me is trying,
even if it's is a volunteer thing, to learn what
they're doing. I try to go volunteer into coaching. I
try to go volunteer. I try to actually understand based
off the minds of a GM or an owner or
(01:13:47):
any of those. And it's like a lot of these
fans are thinking off the basis of a better of Gambler.
They don't know. But the biggest problem with these front
offices is they're trying to appease those fans, those little
like you idiots. They're trying to appease them. And then
(01:14:07):
it's and that's why I can't stand what's happening with
the Chicago Bears. You're trying to every time you get
close to winning. You get you get close to winning,
you listen to the fans, you start to complain that
they're too bored. Winning is what brings your fans regardless.
Ye I don't care what they even say. But that's
all I would have to say about fans in this
(01:14:29):
stretch is if the reason I can't stand you is
you sit on your couch, it's the same as UFC.
You have your chips and they're all over your lap.
While you're saying I would have gone under the gold,
I would have I would have ducked that punch. And you, meanwhile,
you have chips all over your chest and you don't
train a day in your life. So that's where I'm at.
(01:14:53):
If you want to comp, that's all my thing is.
If you want to complain, go do it. Go do
it yourself, and see you probably wouldn't have it made
complaints if you understood how hard it is.
Speaker 1 (01:15:06):
Well, let me tell you something, Jacob, that's not the
reason why I don't like to sit in the stands.
And if I can't cover a game, I don't want
to go perioud. So you sum up what I think
of that? All right, Rob, go ahead, what do you think.
Speaker 2 (01:15:16):
I'm going to bring up umpires. Okay, it's a hard
job in the major leagues, yes it is. But nowadays
it's like they got to be more consistent. It's driving
me crazy with the strike zone. If they're not consistent
and they put themselves into the game too much. It's
not about you.
Speaker 6 (01:15:37):
It's not you.
Speaker 2 (01:15:38):
You should not have anything to do with the outcome
of a game. All right, mistakes are made, that's a
different story. But you know, throwing a player out after
one second for yelling out, you know, from the dugout
or a manager, or just just the way umpires have
been lately. It's this seems like they're worse and worse.
(01:16:02):
It used to be, you know, the umpire they called
the game, most of them called great games, and you
didn't hear much about them. Now forget it. They're involved
and a lot of them act like it's about them.
It's not about you.
Speaker 1 (01:16:19):
Like that, Candy your parting Shan.
Speaker 7 (01:16:23):
Kudos to Venus Williams. She became the second oldest woman
to win a tour level singles match in professional tennis.
At age forty five. She beat Natan Stearns, twenty two
years younger than her. This was her first singles victory
for Williams in nearly two years. The only older woman
(01:16:44):
to win a match was Martina Natalova at age forty
seven back in two thousand and four. Former number one
ranked Williams had not played singles in an official match
since March of twenty twenty four. You missed time because
she had surgery. The last time she won in singles
(01:17:05):
was August of twenty twenty three, almost two years ago,
so kudos to her.
Speaker 6 (01:17:10):
I do have one thing to say, Candy. I've read
up on this. This is another story for another day.
We can make it a pundit. She said in herself
she had that surgery and she said she would heard
her insurance was on Cobra, so she was going back
for the thing, to be able to get the WTA
the insurance for that type of deal. They remember, she's wealthy,
(01:17:34):
so Serena's even more wealthy. But that shows you how
crazy medical is. If Bavenis is coming back to get
off of Cobra, that tells you everything. So I mean,
she admitted it herself on an interview. She did it
for that.
Speaker 1 (01:17:51):
Wow, that is interesting.
Speaker 6 (01:17:53):
That's horrible, but she was and good for her but
I'm like, she had that surgery and then she's on
co brand. It's getting expensive, so she has to go.
He has to come back to go get her. WTA.
Speaker 5 (01:18:07):
Rob and I were just talking about, right, the medical system,
and that's that's said.
Speaker 1 (01:18:15):
So real. All right, Pizza, what's your parting shot?
Speaker 4 (01:18:17):
Party shot?
Speaker 6 (01:18:18):
What about?
Speaker 4 (01:18:18):
Hey, congratulations to the Hall of Fame inductees that are
going in this weekend for baseball. Uh, you got Billy Wagner,
Itro Suzuki, ce Szabat, the Dave Parker and Dick Allen.
Unfortunately they're not going to be there. They passed away,
especially Dave Parker. I mean, why they wait so long
to to, you know, to get this guy in the
(01:18:39):
Hall of Fame. I mean, these guys deserved it. Put
them in. Don't wait until they pass away, you know,
till they get sick and they pass away and they
can't appreciate, you know, standing up there with with all
the other greats and and having the speech and all that,
and just seeing that plaque in the Hall of Fame.
I mean, come on, don't wait so long to put
these guys in, you know, because it's gonna happen, right, Uh,
(01:19:02):
the whole.
Speaker 5 (01:19:02):
We we've been discussing too about Pete Rose.
Speaker 4 (01:19:04):
I mean, if he gets in, right, I mean, that's
gonna open up a can of worms, I think, with
maybe even bringing in the the steroid guys. So we'll
see what happens there. But why wait so long to
put these guys in? You know, I hate it, but
thank god they are going in. At least their families
are going to appreciate it.
Speaker 6 (01:19:22):
So that's it.
Speaker 1 (01:19:24):
I'll tell you. Our rookies are doing pretty good tonight,
Candy Jacob, what do you think about these two? They're
pretty good, aren't they.
Speaker 6 (01:19:29):
Oh, let's see, I don't know how much rookie there
is the.
Speaker 1 (01:19:34):
Rookies on the show. All right, anyway, all right, all
let me give you my final parting shot. Okay, parting
shot is a technoledge. You messing up on my shows
all night today, Leary were chopping it out. That's okay,
we're still making it work. But the real parting shot
is kudos to five Sports and Allison Williams replaces Laura Oakman,
(01:19:56):
who chose not to sign a contract extension. Williams left
e over Disney's COVID vaccine mandate. More power to Allison. Okay,
you weren't putting up a Disney's business and you decided
to have your child anyways and not be forced by
corporate world to do it. Fox rings her on, she
does a college thing, and now she's gone to the pros.
(01:20:17):
I'm proudy Allison for holding your ground. It took a
heck of a woman to do that. In ESPN is
a love hate relationship with the things you do. This
one falls on the hate side. Okay, I don't like
what you did, but Fox took the high road and
Lord decided to go Alison. Williams was a logical choice
to do it. So if that said, I want to
thank william Thing for at least making it on part
(01:20:38):
of the show tonight. What I will do with him
next week is probably carry over the lending Wilkins topic
for him. And meanwhile, as far as Robin Chris our concerned, pizza, Okay,
we're gonna have play. They're gonna be on the network regularly.
They've done a heck of a job tonight. I just
got to make sure that Rob knows that he's on
duty for Tuesday over on Inside the Pitch then and
(01:20:59):
Rob up you are at least later for the country
club next Thursday night, and I'll see what else I
can do to finagles some things in this week, but
at least plan on Thursday and I'll check you over
the weekend. Thee else I'm able to do. Okay, my friend, Hi,
thank you. So you guys did a great job tonight.
So with that said, Jacob, everybody know how they can
get a hold of you.
