and you're in Tokyo, but I think you're going to

Speaker 3 (01:28):
Week and a half? Two weeks actually as the game.
But I'll be god as of Sunday, gonna be excited
get to see some Major League baseball in another other country.
Haven't done that.
Speaker 1 (01:39):
Looking forward to looking forward to you writing a story
two on this. I want to see how far your
writings come along, and you have a golden opportunity to
go out there and put some good stuff together. I'm
looking forward to seeing what you put together. Also, just
every know I'm working on. I don't have it secured
yet on landing a longtime MLB Hall of Fame writer
Barry Blooms So, I'm known Berry a long time. We're
(02:02):
in conversation. Nothing's finalized, but I've known Barrier a long time. George,
I know you know him.
Speaker 4 (02:07):
Welcome back, Yeah, thank you, Good to be back with
everyone tonight.
Speaker 1 (02:10):
Thanks for having me. Yeah. Berry's ticketed for the Motor
City MENMO. So let's get to the agenda. Remembering Gene
Hackman dead at the age of ninety five. His death
remains a little bit of a mystery. I'm not going
to get in the specifics there. I know there's a
lot of investigating this stuff going on, but I'll tell
you I'm going to lead off of this one. First
of all, not always knowing for who's yours, and some
(02:33):
of his favorite lines for me and everybody have an
opportunity to say, there's let's see what hand I've been dealt?
And he also has a comment that when it comes
down to the basketball team, what I say is the law,
absolutely and without discussion. If you're a business owner, how
many times have you used that? And what hand have
(02:53):
I been dealt? You know what, mister ellis you're a
business owner, right, What do you think what I say
when it comes to basketball team is a law absolutely
without discussion.
Speaker 3 (03:03):
With anime, mister this one listen, one of the greatest
actors of all time and Hoosier's definitely one of the
best basketball movies of all time. Definitely will be missed.
A shame that, you know, whatever happened either way, you
know he's not here anymore, and you know it's it's
definitely a loss for all of us that are fans
of his great work.
Speaker 1 (03:25):
Age ninety five. I say he had a pretty good run.
What about you, George.
Speaker 4 (03:29):
Yeah, Hoosier was I'll take out a step further JV.
I'll say it's one of the best sports movies of
all time. But you know what, the one role that
I loved from Gene Hackman Popeye Doyle in French Connection.
I was I was only a team back then, and
I remember seeing that movie and I was so impressed
with his acting as the New York City cop who
(03:50):
ended up going to France and well, you guys probably
know the rest of the story. A lot of drugs
and stuff, but a great, great guy though. Yeah, we're
gonna miss him.
Speaker 1 (03:58):
Yeah, Rob Williams a good time and out there. Good
to have you on, Ralph. The Firms replacements, Yeah, I
forgot about the replacements. Good stuff, Ralph, find bring that
up all right, Katy, What do you think about Gene Hackman?
You see how many times to watch Hoosiers. Glad to
bring those up. Ralph.
Speaker 2 (04:15):
Gene Hackman was an American actor in the career that
spanned a spanned over five decades. He received two Academy Awards,
two British Academy Film Awards and four Golden Globe Awards. Obviously, yes,
I know him for Hoosier's I mean we even went
to see Hoosier's Gym after the fact because we really
(04:38):
loved that movie. But I mean, he's been in so
many He was in Unforgiven, he was in Bonnie and
Clyde back in nineteen sixty seven. He was in Mississippi Burning.
He was in the Poseidon Adventure. I mean, you name it, Hoosiers, Power,
Another Woman, the Quicken, the Dead, Get Shorty, the Birdcage,
(04:58):
Enemy of the State Run. He also acted in Crimson
Tide with Denzel Washington. I mean, the list goes on.
Speaker 5 (05:06):
I mean, there is a whole plethora of.
Speaker 2 (05:09):
It's sad that when we get to this, I mean,
and I hate to say this, but I'm gonna age
us that we talk more about all these great people
that we see that are have been, that are passing.
Speaker 5 (05:23):
He was a great actor. Uh loved him and Hoosiers.
Speaker 2 (05:27):
I loved that movie, but so sad to hear about
his passing.
Speaker 1 (05:32):
Go to the chat room, John Tety, great friend of
ours mine and George's John. He talks about Crimson Time
let me give you a special story about John Tety
for all of you I don't know about him, George,
why don't you talk about his incredible work as a
firefighter and how he was a he went out there
and saved the life of young Cecilia she had and
now he's been a member of Troy Sports Broadcasters as well.
(05:55):
Glad to have beyond John, This is a great show
for you to be on. Well, John Tete, Jay being
a truly big he's a big hero and he's been
a part of the Detroit media for a long time and.
Speaker 4 (06:05):
He's great for sure.
Speaker 1 (06:07):
There was a deadly plane crash right near the airport
and John me is just he's a hero and a
lot Jo. We'll bring him on the show and you
can get to meet him personally. So John, glad to
be on and thanks for bringing up those shows. All right.
Depends on some thoughts.
Speaker 6 (06:24):
Well, John Ruin for me, I was going to say
he really did good Crimson Tide and Ralph he warded
for me and I say he was really good Replacements
because what he did Replacements was phenomenal. He did an
excellent job. But whatever happened, it's sad. It's Gene Hackman
was an awesome actor. And his wife and his dog
(06:47):
that's a shame too, But I don't know. I just
feel bad for him. So that's my take.
Speaker 1 (06:56):
So for you Tigers fans, John T. D will be
in Lakeland next week with the show great Stuff. All right,
Donors Ago hours ago. We get to talk about the
Lakers tonight. But here's the thing, Pale Lambert talking about them,
so get that. Let's talk about Lebron James. First of all,
first player to reach fifty thousand points in the regular
season and the playoffs of forget that. This is why
(07:17):
I brought it on here. Bill Lambert believes that Lebron
James would be best if he played in the nineteen eighties.
He's six foot eight runs to sixty runs late like
the wind jumps out of a gym. Smart Mjay was
asked a tremendous card, but six foot eight to eighty.
(07:39):
I don't know about this one. But you know what, Joe,
what are your talks about, mister Lambert.
Speaker 3 (07:47):
When Lebron with the fifty thousand boys, Lucia.
Speaker 1 (07:53):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, talk about Yeah, Lebron James is fifty
thousand points in the regular season, and the playoffs combined.
Bill Lambert is saying that he can play in the eighties.
Do you agree or disagree with that?
Speaker 3 (08:08):
Of course not. I mean, he cries every time he's touched,
he flops. You know, he couldn't imagine him against the
bad boys in Detroit. What would he do he he
quit basketball after like his rookie year, if he had
to go up against that team with Mahorne and Lambier
and you know, I mean, listen, it's one thing when
(08:28):
you're not playing anymore to say nice things about the
current stars. You know, I appreciate that rather than the
people saying that they could have played against them. You know,
it's a tough, a tough situation when you because you
can't really ever compare generations because we don't know it'll
never happen. There's no way that you know, you can
simulate it or whatever you want, but it's not real.
(08:50):
But I mean, looking at Lebron's game, imagine him and
signed against Charles Oakley or Anthony Mason, you know, Dennis Rodman,
any of those guys, Mahrne, Lambier. He's not going to
be able to play against any of those guys. He'd
be crying.
Speaker 1 (09:09):
Patrick Carlone and great point, Joe. Let me tell you
a little some about Bill m Beer. Him and I
never really particularly got along. Then again, he didn't get
along with anybody. So I'm at the Boston Garden and
I'm interviewing Dennis Robin and Bill's getting on my nurses.
Speaker 6 (09:25):
You know.
Speaker 1 (09:26):
Dennis said, well, get off his back. I see, you
know I told so. I ended up telling Bill just
because you can afford your car payment doesn't mean that
I can afford mine. And that's when Rodman went after him, saying,
get out of here, Bill, and then Bill moved. I mean,
he don't want no part of me. At that point,
said think about you can afford a car payment and
I can't up beat it. That's in the Boston Garden.
Number one. He did some great work at the WNBA,
(09:49):
but he alienated so many cotton picking people that the
only thing that he sniffed in the NBA was an
assistant job with the Kurt Rambis, who he played against
with the li And he never got a job in
the NBA. I wonder why because he burned so many
staking bridges. Really, seriously, really, that's a new hat by
the way coming out, by the way, and I have
(10:10):
another one called seriously, really seriously, I'm telling you I
have a different hat tonight, but I have all kinds
of different hats of Bill Lambert. Don't hold your breath,
Jbelis said my point for me, I don't think I'm
gonna lose my voye there. He wouldn't have been able.
He would have to have some real dental work of
Rick mchorne Hammer I'm Charles Oaplely was a physical character.
And Anthony Mason. Seriously, really seriously, I'm telling you this
(10:32):
guy would have gotten his brains. He wouldn't have gotten
every recall. In fact, I'll even go a step further. Okay,
he has fifty thousand points. I don't give him thirty
five thousand combined in that era. No way he get killed.
Speaker 3 (10:49):
I just.
Speaker 1 (10:51):
Acknowledging everybody in the chat room. But I'm telling you
this is the one topic of the passion of bringing on.
Of course Ycorn being on the show pretty much help
because he lived in with me with the Bad Boys.
You didn't really George, I'm gonna ask you, my friend,
do you really think that Lebron James is surviving the
Bad mois Ears when the end day was legitimate and
that it was good basketball called defense.
Speaker 4 (11:12):
No, I do not think so. He would not have
anywhere near these numbers back then. Plus there's been expansion
upon expansion. There's new teams. He cleaned up on a
lot of bad basketball teams. I'm not taking anything away
from the guy. She's he's forty years old. But still, no,
he could not. You see what the pistons back then,
you know, gave fits to Michael Jordan, but you know,
(11:34):
before he started blossing me into his own. But the
fact of the matter is that I think Lea Beer
is right on with this one, you know, and take
it from a guy like Lamvier, he's got to be
the one throwing cold water on somebody like this typicult
Bill lam Vier, Scott. He gets his two cents and
now he's questioning something that everybody's going gaga over and
(11:54):
he's got the right to do it. But like you said,
you know, it's it's a great achievement. But no, in
that era, he would not have bd this kind of
phenomenal success.
Speaker 1 (12:05):
No way. First of all, Bill Lamber is absolutely bored.
All he's waiting for now is for Tom Gorris to
get the Detroit Shock to play back at that's all
he doing, and I think that's inevitable at some point.
Cleveland got at first, but the Detroit Shock will be
back in Detroit at some point. But Bill and Beer,
(12:26):
you are absolutely delirious. Really seriously, really give me a break.
I never like you anyways, and I'm sure there's no
love lost between Dan Marino and Bill Lambert. To the
people I can't stomach the most and if i want
to put another one in there, although I've never met him,
Dion Sanders, but I'm actually liking on him a little
bit more because of the job he's done in college football.
(12:48):
Bill Lamber, I know you're bored. Okay, Vegas Aces moved
on from here because they got Becky Hammond. But really, seriously, really,
there you go. Joshua got it right. You've got a
cap in the mail for that one too, because it
was his idea in the first place to get one.
So with all due respect, Bill Ambert, I don't know
where you're drinking this kool aid, and I don't think
(13:09):
that Lebron would have made it. I'm sure you would
have taken every stupid cheap shot at him anyway, And
now you're telling me he would have made it in
the eighties. You are absolutely, without a doubt, lose at all.
All right, can'ty go ahead see if you can somewhat
call me doubt because I knew the topic was going
to wipe me up.
Speaker 2 (13:26):
So you have to give kudos to Lebron James. He's
already he was already the first all time in combined points.
Speaker 5 (13:34):
Let's face it.
Speaker 2 (13:35):
The next nearest person to him is cream Al du
Jabbara's second with forty four forty nine, while the closest
active player is Kevin Dulant with thirty five and twenty
five points. James is also the NBA's all time scoring
leader in both the regular season and playoffs, with forty
(13:57):
one thousand, eight seventy one and eight thousand and sixty two, respectively.
The other thing is is James already passed fifty thousand
points when counting his play in tournament and the NBA
Cup points, but the league does not recognize those stats,
so those points don't count towards this fifty thousand that
(14:18):
he has already.
Speaker 5 (14:20):
But would he have been able.
Speaker 2 (14:22):
To play in the eighties, Absolutely not.
Speaker 5 (14:26):
He does not tough. Uh just doesn't.
Speaker 1 (14:32):
No, No, Ron James doesn't make pr mistakes like Steven A.
Smith talked about. And I'm gonna tell you something, I'll
take Irvin Magic Johnson all day long over Lebron James.
Continue your thoughts.
Speaker 2 (14:46):
And I was just gonna say, give Lebron credit in
this day and age he is doing. He's doing phenomenon.
He's obviously scoring points and you can't take that away
from him. And like JB said, you cannot compare him
to anybody from the eighties or the seventies because it's
(15:09):
a different game and it's totally changed. Is he good
for basketball? He has a lot of basketball talent and
I don't think any one of us on this panel
would say he doesn't. Do we like him as a player.
That's completely a different question. But he obviously to get
to get fifty thousand points in a league, he has
(15:30):
to be doing something right.
Speaker 1 (15:32):
He's a heck of a player. I'm not saying he's
not a great player, but the bottom line is they
don't play defense. Defense in the NBA. Is they called
a foreign language? And I tell you, if anybody that
knows me, I hate foreign languages, which is why I
always went back to wood shop and metal shop, whoever
shop you can get. In fact, I was so desperate
to get out of a foreign language class. I even
tried to take auto shop and didn't do that. Great
(15:53):
or small engines is what they called that day. But
I was in about four language. Okay, here's the thing.
Lebron James did not take the NBA out of tape delay.
It was Magic Johnson and Larry Bird. He's lucky. So sorry, Bill,
I'm not drinking the koolid. The only reason why you
even made any money is because of urban Magic Johnson
(16:14):
and with all due respect Lebron James of the townel
but Stephen A. Smith has said, this guy's a public
relations nightmare. He get a pr straight. Anybody that could
go out there and put on a TV show called
The Decision, Oh my goodness, that was battle old as
everything else. And then he didn't want to play in
the most recent NBA All Star Game because he was
heard about an hour before. Lebron James. There's no way
(16:37):
you're making it in the eighties and no, as far
as Bill Lamber is concerned, you know what Josh was
talking about beers. Maybe I'll give you a little lesson
from Joshua. Maybe he should be drinking a few. And
in Detroit, I think the biggest beer that I know,
George correct me if I'm wrong is probably Stros Beer
is that's still in business.
Speaker 4 (16:55):
Stros Beer is manufacturer now in Milwaukee, I believe.
Speaker 1 (17:01):
Well, it wasn't Michigan.
Speaker 4 (17:02):
Yeah, they folded from Detroit area, yep, but they kept
the name brand alive in Milwaukee.
Speaker 1 (17:08):
I think, well they brew everything there anyway, all right, Yeah,
the last.
Speaker 6 (17:12):
Word, I am not from the eighties. I'm not from
the seventies, so I'm gonna transition. Some Swiss Lebron James
Wood have made it in the eighties and nineties, but
I was a kid Patrick Ewing, Karl Malone that they
would have easily stopped him. Gary Payton would have gotten
the ball from him. It's just I have not taken
(17:34):
anything away from fifty thousand. A good job of getting
fifty thousand, but you're supposed to make a game winning shot.
A couple of weeks ago, I saw highlights that Lebron
had two chances of getting the game tying shot and
they couldn't get He couldn't get it in twice and
they ended up going in overtime and ended up losing.
But as far as that the eighties and nineties, I
(17:57):
don't think they would have survived with Carmelone and Patrick Keoy.
Patrick Ewey would upstad this ground even but Tumble would
has blocked him.
Speaker 1 (18:05):
I'll think about Isaiah Thomas would have given him a
hard time too, because Isaiah had been a little guy,
but he was a physical guy that had a lot
of blood. But there he had a lot of hard too.
Won't go in and anymore. We wrought some good names. Well,
we'll tone this conversation down a little with the NBA.
This one isn't so but I had to get Bill Lambert.
But George and I on this show we lived in
with the bad daily. So now the most point by
(18:28):
a Canadian guy in a single game is fifty five
by Jamal Murray of the Denver another versus the Portland Trailblazers. Yes,
the Canadians can go out there and in the Four
Nations tournament, but every now and then they do produce
a pretty good basketball player. Jamorrow. Murray's as good as
you get, George. Since you're right across from Windsor where
your talks about what Jamal Murray has done.
Speaker 4 (18:49):
Well, yeah, I'm very proud of him. I mean, you know,
there's a lot of a lot to be said from
UH sports stars coming in Canada, from me, I mean,
coming from Canada, but early do we see a lot
in the NBA. So I think Jamal has done a
nice job. I'm happy for him. Denver's got a nice
team out there, and you know, I'm all for it.
(19:12):
I mean, we all know that basketball is international, so
makes more sense than anything right across my border, right
across the border from the US, our friends in Canada,
and they should be contributing. They have a team. They
have a team at Toronto, of course. But yeah, Jamal
is doing a great job. And like I said, kudos
to him. Man, he's he's playing some good ball lately.
Speaker 1 (19:33):
Josha, I don't remember who the beer guy is, so
I can't give you an answer to that particular question. Yeah,
I appreciate you bringing up with Bill Amber. You ever
see him? Gold Film hesitate to send him a few beers.
I could send him a lot of other things, but
it doesn't matter. Who knows our day we'll ever cross.
So all right, JB, what are your thoughts about Jamal Murray.
Speaker 3 (19:52):
Jamal Murray's throughout his career has been really good. I mean,
you know, he's a fun guy to watch, plays a
great game. You know, he's when he got injured last
year one of the reason why Denver just wasn't the
same and they didn't have a chance to win.
Speaker 6 (20:10):
Ye man, he's doing all somewhat like what he does.
He reminds me of a young Irish when he was younger,
just explosive. Just needs to stay healthy and him and
Nookfitch will be fine and I think they can get
some titles together.
Speaker 1 (20:29):
You know, here's one of those things Jamal Murray could
play for any coach, Chuck. I can only imagine what
he would have done like and Chuck Daily System. Yeah,
Gary thought, isn't it some thoughts on this?
Speaker 2 (20:41):
He's twenty seven years old. But this goes back to
the last topic that we just talked about and how
there is no defense played in the NBA, because if
there was a defense played in the NBA, you would
not be seeing fifty five points.
Speaker 5 (20:56):
From one player, you just wouldn't.
Speaker 2 (20:59):
I mean, that's that's crazy, but you know it's it's
the third most scored in a single game by a
Nuggets player in their franchise history. He also that night
had what did they say? They said he had? I
was trying to look for how many rebounds? He had
four rebounds, five assists, two steals while hitting seven threes
(21:23):
in forty two minutes.
Speaker 1 (21:25):
Wow. Well he plays for Michael Malone and George and
I know Brendan Malone. And I'll say I have a
great story about Brendan Malone. I really really do. Brendan
Malone and Brendan Sir and I route in Cleveland and
the Richfield area, you know, and I ended up going
to this place called Whitey's is the sports bar. I
never forget what Mike Ambernower says when I was at
the Kissing Hotel. So you know you're not a part
(21:46):
of the team. Great to know. I knew that. Okay.
So meanwhile, what happens. Brendan Malone and Brendan Sir asked
me for a ride, and well went to White Eyes.
Brendan Malone looks at me, called me Scottie because he did. Yeah,
if he liked me, he called me Scotty. Don't like me,
tell me whatever you want. And I have actually taken
on Iceland. It's one of my new nicknames because I
(22:07):
have ice in my day. My wife knows about the track.
And anyways, both of those two guys saw me going
into a corner spot. They said, it's like they look
at I because they see it on the NBA car.
You guys get that gal. So I pull into a
corner spot, so Brendan will ask me, why did you
go after that? Here? Here you go. Brendan's okay. Well, then,
because I had two of them, at least I know
(22:28):
one side of my car is not going to get hit.
And these guys just broke out and started smiling and laughing.
It was just unbelievable. And then I asked them in
the restaurant, do you guys mind if I sit here
and eat dinner with you? No, not at all. You're
welcome to sit here with us. I won't talk. I
know you're scouting. No, no, they said, we can talk
basketball with you. We'll talk. But they learned a lesson
how to park their car on that particular night. They
(22:50):
really did. It was just fun. I mean, you know,
working back to the piss and packed and the bad
boys or something. I take a lot of pride in
I have a thanks to Bill Wickett whose now I
believe with the National Press I have. George probably has
one too. He has a little piece of the floor
on his wall somewhere. Yeah, I probably look at that
knowing those are some great times of cover NBA basketball.
I haven't been to a basket NBA basketball game, and
(23:11):
while I'm not really any hurry to do it, but
it was still some unbelievable time. But I'll tell you
what it's also important to do. Now turn order Candy
amplay for his patient, right guy can.
Speaker 2 (23:20):
South Florida Tribune Publishing Company published a book. It's called
Lessons from the Microphone, Tuning into the Entering Wisdom of
Visionary Leaders. It is written by our host Scott the
MotorCity mad Mouth Morgan Rock. The forward is written by

Speaker 1 (24:42):
Thanks Scott, Oh, you're welcome. Siber Russie good stuff. Yeah, Scottie,
slap rock kind of wearing on me after a while,
don't mind it sometimes you're wearing that. My wife when
she met me called me crazy man, and that definitely
has worked. But the only thing we haven't done, what
that is, I haven't gotten a I think I do
have a domain name for it, and I haven't gotten
a hat, but I'm not getting that to seriously really
think out that. So with that said, let's continue on
(25:04):
a guy that unfortunately passed away so I have a
title on him too. Is Al Troutwick, the former play
by play announcer passed away at the age of sixty
eight from cancer. He was called New York Rangers, Games
and Knicks and also worked for the USA Network thirty
years at MS GENI and also, you know you can
talk about NHL Olympic coverage. Here's another iconic guy. Al
(25:25):
Troutwick was a guy that I ended up finally learning
about when I was watching the NHL on the USA
cable network and he was commonly doing those pregame shows
with Gary Green the announcer and Dan Kelly SR. And
I'm going to tell you something. Al Troutwood to me
is a guy that, if you're patterning yourself around in
(25:47):
the metropolitan New York area has produced some iconic broadcasters.
I just think that probably Al Troutwick may be one
of the most underrated broadcasters out there because they've had
so many great ones for the I'm not going to
go out there and get into all of them. I
want to make sure the focus remains on Al Troutwick,
(26:07):
although I won't mention Kenny Albert, who was on The
MotorCity Man Mouse Show last year. Al Troutwig, all I
can say, my friend is rest in peace and being
a national guy like I am. You did some unbelievable
work and this society is better because of guys like
Al Troutwick. All Right, Joe, you lived in a metropolitan
New York area. What's your best recollection of Al Troutwick.
Speaker 3 (26:31):
So in the year I believe it was ninety four,
the Ragers won their Stanley Cup and the Knicks got
all the way to the finals. Oja was getting chased
in the Bronco. There was a lot going on, and
you know Al Troutwick was always a staple ont MSG.
You know, he classy guy, did a great job talking
(26:54):
talking sports. He had the heartbeat of New York. I mean,
you look at who I'm missed he had. At that point,
they had mar of Albert do a play by play,
you know, Walt Frazier do a color commentary. If I'm
if I'm remember correctly, Al Troutwick, who was one of
the best Sam Rosen doing Rangers games. They always had
(27:16):
really top notch people and Trotwick. I thought it was
a lot older. When you know, I heard he passed.
I was very surprised to hear that it was only
in the sixties. But knowledgeable guy always seemed like he
knew what he was talking about. I just I enjoyed
watching him growing up exactly.
Speaker 1 (27:33):
I enjoyed it. And he was nothing but class and
the way he carried himself. This guy was with him
as chief for thirty years, and I got to know
him on the USA Cable Network, Dan Kelly. If anybody
knows anybody fendary hockey announcers, you can come up with
all the one you want. Dan Kelly Senior died a
way too early, and that's where I first got my notice.
Took notice of Al Trout Rest in peace, Al turn
(27:57):
over another veteran, George Iiklin, Go ahead, what are your
thoughts about al? Uh?
Speaker 4 (28:01):
Well, he's obviously synonymous with with with successful broadcasting. He
was so versatile. You know, when he got a call
to do the Olympics, when he got a call to
do wide rule the sports or whatever event he was at.
I know his primary focus was hockey, but boy, this
guy could do them all. I was too very disappointed
(28:21):
when I heard the news. He was still only in
his sixties. But I'll tell you what he showed, how much,
uh love he has for the game of hockey, and
and how much he admired the players themselves and the
coaches that he interviewed. I have nothing but good words
for him. I mean, you know, people some people link
him just to the Olympics and all that. Well, they
(28:41):
don't know the whole story. Yeah, he did Olympics, of
course he did. But he really really, like, like you said,
Joe with the Rangers and that he became synonymous with respect.
They had so many great announcers in New York and
the Alberts. Of course myerv Elbert is right up there too.
But yeah, I'm gonna miss him. I'm gonna miss um,
not only for the networks, for MSG and uh he
(29:03):
worked for NBC a lot, and he's a he's a
great guy, great sports broadcaster.
Speaker 1 (29:09):
Iends. I know it's probably a little bit all your time,
but anything you can add be okay.
Speaker 6 (29:15):
He covered the Indy five hundred, he did the Yankees,
and he did tennis too, and he when he made
when you were watching the hockey game, it was Penguins
and Rangers. As me as a Penguins fan, he made
you feel like he was you're at the game, like
Mike Lang for the Penguins. Mike Lang, he made you
feel like you're at a Penguins game, but when they're
when at the Rangers game, he made you feel like
(29:36):
you're at the Rangers game there too at Madison Square Gardens.
So I just want to point that out too, that
he covered the Indy five hundred and tennis too good stuff.
Speaker 1 (29:47):
I told you anything you provided a table de pendants,
always appreciated candy here Ego, you're the one who does all.
Speaker 2 (29:53):
Left, anything left, guys, I'm just kidding.
Speaker 1 (29:58):
Well, anytime I'm dealing with the researcher at the end,
you always like to be the lastly glad you'll fill
in all the blanks anyways, as you're a correct researcher.
Speaker 2 (30:06):
The two thousand New York Sportscaster of the Year, Troutweed
covered eight Olympic games and won New York Sports Emmys
for his coverage of the Yankees, Knicks and Rangers. He
also yes hosted Football NHL. He did the Indianapolis five
hundred with Jim McKay He also co anchored coverage of
(30:29):
the Tour de France, the Olympics, NBC's coverage of the
Arena Football League. He also did US Open Tennis. He
had a cameo in the movie Cool Runnings as an
announcer for the bob sled competition he did. In two thousand,
he replaced John Tesh as play by play announcer of
(30:52):
the US national and international gymnastics competitions for NBC. He
also did did you know? He did lots of others things.
He was in the twenty sixteen Rio Olympics and there
was some there was some controversy along that lines and
(31:14):
stuff like that. But and that was when he was
permanently then removed from gymnastics commentary.
Speaker 3 (31:20):
But what a career.
Speaker 2 (31:23):
You know, some iconic teams too in there. Those aren't small,
you know, like you're New York. That's a big market.
That's a big market. So to be there that long
and have that long of a career, kudos to him.
Speaker 1 (31:38):
Can I say, that's why he's appropriate for the show.
And that's on little reason why Hello, that's would Tooby
jb Ellis because I know that being in the metropolitan
New York area you had a chance to see him
an awful lot. Yes, Ral Wlames are broadcasting icons for sure.
All right, great feel good story out of ann Arbor
planed Colden proposal's girlfriend and Michigan after Michigan has lost
to Michigan State. I saw him play over FAU under
(32:00):
Dusty may Blad. Golden to me, is definitely going to
be a top is an easy first round pick in
the NBA draft. And to be able to propose those
girlfriend who by the way, played volleyball at FAU. It's
just unbelievable how she moved up to Michigan and he
gets to see him finish his career with the Michigan
bul Range. What an incredible story of Vlads to me,
(32:23):
has been a privilege to be able to cover you
when you're at FAU and you were part of those
great couple of years over with the Owls, and now
to see you at Michigan is just unbelievable. I can
only wish lad Golden nothing but the best. That I'm
looking forward to seeing where he goes in the NBA career.
We'll go to our other Michigan resident, George Iikrn, What
are your thoughts about vad GOLDI you've only had a
(32:44):
year there with him, but let's face it, the area,
it has to be extremely excited about him.
Speaker 4 (32:49):
Oh yeah, yeah, the big fellow. Yeah, Lad said a
really good year. Twenty nine games so far this season,
he averages six point four rebounds. I was a little surprised.
I mean it might be a little higher than that,
but he leads the Wolverines with sixteen points a game
as average, and he's just done a great job. I mean,
you know, he blocks, he he's good from the field.
(33:11):
He's got a sixty almost a sixty five percent field
goal average. The Lad Golden And I'll tell you what
you know. And this goes back to what you said earlier, Scott,
on previous shows, I've been on with you about Dusty
May and how fortunate Michigan is to have such a
great coach like that to come in. And not only that,
(33:32):
but like you said, you know, Lad came out over
and I know a lot of other guys from the
Portal came to Michigan this year. Dusty's done a great
job bringing all these guys together. But yeah, that was
so cool because I guess I had heard that Lad
was talking about proposal to her at a different, different setting,
not at the not at the game itself, but something
(33:53):
I forget what they said. Something went a rye where
he was going to do it beforehand. Not at the
arena though, but in another setting. I can't remember what
it is. But yeah, when he did it on the court,
that was so cool. And it's funny because he dealt
down and he was his head is almost even with
her because the height difference with his girlfriend is Yeah,
I say, you know, she's shorter, and obviously he's this
(34:14):
big guy, and uh, he's he's just a real good guy. Yeah,
I'm so happy that Dusty brought a.
Speaker 1 (34:20):
Bed well Chrysler Center. Hey, listen, when I promoted the candy,
I told her, issues, there's no way I'm getting on
my knees. So what do I do. I take her
to the Everglades. I go to a boat landing and
ended up actually doing a serene Sunday. Get this. I
went to the boat landing and I said, here you go.
I proposed her. Then there's no way I'm getting on
my knees because you're gonna have to get me back up,
(34:41):
and it's gonna be one painful way. Up, so go
to the bottom of the boat landing she's standing up there.
It worked out pretty good, So Joshua Door, if you're
still on the show tonight, Serene Sunday, that was one
of the first places I actually did it. One of
the first place I don't remember the first Lace Sunday. Yeah,
Chrysler Center Word Manual had to bring this guy on board.
He came from MBA. You were removed a couple of
years away from a final four. If ward Manuel did
(35:03):
bring him on board, then a dunch camp was waiting
for him. But ward Manuel moved quickly because he knew
he had a good coach. As a result, Michiean Wolverines
is going to the n CUAA Tournament. I know they
lost to Night to Maryland, and I know they also
lost to what was at Illinois on Sunday, and they
get Michigan safe to close it out. But I think
the Michigan Wolverines could be very dangerous as ahead of
(35:24):
the n CUAA Tournament and lad Golden watch out. This
guy is one of those true big men that are
going to transition to the NBA real well, whatever's left
of it. If they don't find any other gimmick to
get in. But Lad Golden may not be Magic Johnson
Larry Bird, but he'll be a great addition to the
NBA providing it this guy stays. Elsie's some thoughts, Fender.
Speaker 6 (35:46):
I think, I think Michigan's gonna be a Cinderella story
and the March madness with him. He's a really good
basketball player. He's gonna be He's a really good NBA prospect.
I know you guys are looking at Cooper Flag from Duke,
but keep an eye on this guy coming up. So
just watch out because this guy's gonna be. He's not
(36:06):
gonna be like Le Broader or anything, but he's gonna
be a contributor wherever team drafts him.
Speaker 1 (36:11):
So can he took a lot of photos of Lad
gold Will you think about what he's done with Michigan
as well as well as FAU.
Speaker 2 (36:20):
I think led led Golden is a very talented player. Wow,
we miss him down here at FAU. But I totally
understand the coach that brought him in that you know,
with coaching him left and he went with him, and
that's just the nature of n I L and the
(36:40):
transfer portal these days. Does that happens, and you hear
about that in a lot of the different sports. But
kudos to him for having the success uh in a
different school with different teammates around him.
Speaker 1 (36:56):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (36:56):
But kudos to him and good luck in his marriage.
Speaker 1 (37:01):
I actually thought that John L. Davis is going to
go with him, but he ends up going to Arkansas.
I knew that the Golden was headed the Michigan but
Johnelle Davis. I thought for sure they were a good
one two punts. But Dusty May went everywhere and he
could get anybody wants. And it's good that were manual
raised him a million bucks, although Michigan had money to
burn anyway. So well that said, let's continue on to
(37:22):
the Detroit theme sort of. Matthew Stafford, he's back with
the Rams on a two year deal. Was there any doubt,
George Eichhorn in your mind? And Matthew Stafford was going
to re sign with the Rams knowing that he was
offered one hundred million dollars more to go to Las
Vegas Raiders no state income text, but Matthew won a
title there. I still think it's a win win trade
(37:43):
for both teams between the Rams and the Lions. But
Matthew Stafford. He's surprised at he stayed in LA.
Speaker 4 (37:50):
I'm not really surprised. I mean, the media kind of
made it and whipped it up as a frenzy kind
of thing, and rumors about him going to this team
and that team and then he would leave LA. And
Kelly was involved somehow, his wife about you know, being
disgruntled or whatever with the Rams. But it was all
smoking mirrors when you think about it. I mean, yeah,
(38:12):
he just he would be it would be too much
of a gamble, too much of a risk for the
Rams to let him go this. You know, he's still
in his prime. You know, maybe not totally in his
prime anymore, but boy, he's still a damn good quarterback.
He knows what he's doing. He's got so much experience.
They wanted Super Bowl forore crying out loud with him,
and and obviously he's got several good years ahead of him.
(38:33):
So I'm not totally surprised. But again, the offseason, you know,
they like to talk about different things and throwing his
name out there as being a new quarterback for whatever
it was worth, you know, the Jets or the Giants
or I don't know where they had him going New
Orleans whatever, But yeah, there you go, except one not
in Detroit thirty one anyways, just kidding with.
Speaker 1 (38:55):
Your pensman, But yeah, yeah, I got you.
Speaker 4 (38:58):
He's a good Yeah, he's a good guy. He's a
good guy. He's probably going to be a lifer with
the rest of his career with LA the Rams.
Speaker 1 (39:06):
Yeah, I could definitely see Stafford being in the pride
of the Lion's Ring of Honor when it's all said,
I needed great work Detroit. I don't care about the
sub five hundred record that he had. He didn't have
much talent around him when he expected then. But if
he had, if he had Brad Holmes and Dan Campbell coaching,
I don't think there's any doubt in my mind at
this particular juncture that Stafford would have stayed in Detroit
(39:27):
his entire career. But that'll be a hypothetical for another day.
Some thoughts. JV. Ellison, Yesked, you're right that Ralph than
you know, feeling he was going to stay there and
doing well for himself, no doubt, And I think loyalty
mattered there. So good point, Ralph. So JV. You're talked
about Stafford remaining in LA.
Speaker 3 (39:44):
Yeah, there really wasn't many options that fit that would
work for him. He's, you know, a veteran quarterback that
would a Super Bowl, that has a lot, a lot
of talent. He's not you know, top three or five
at the moment, but he's not you know, bottom half
fifty sixteen through thirty two. So he's not going to
(40:05):
go to New Orleans and rebuild there. He's getting older.
Same thing with the Raiders. I mean, I get there's
no state income tax, but the Raiders they're they're a
crap show. They're not anywhere close to winning. I couldn't
see him going there. If the Giants and Jets same thing.
I mean, the Jets, maybe you're a little bit ahead
(40:26):
with the talent they have, but then the Jets they'll
find a way to do something. You know. So where
else was he going to go? And you know, the
Rams came in and gave him the money he was
looking for. You know, Stafford's a class guy. I used
to abuse him a lot before he won the Super Bowl.
I thought the Rams made a dumb move get rid
of goth Like you said, it worked out for both franchises.
(40:50):
The Rams got their Super Bowl Detroit's one of the
top teams right now. You know they could have a
shot next year. I thought this year was going to
be their year. But you know they'll they'll run it
back next year. That golf will be there leading the way.
So yeah, I wasn't too shocked to see that Stafford state,
But yeah.
Speaker 1 (41:08):
He was going to the Giants hun playout Doroth alone
for an organization, we figured out that's a move backwards.
If we had Dan Campbell and Brad Holme building out there,
he would have remained at Detroit. But I'm happy for Matthew.
I'm also happy, like you said, for Jared Goff. Well,
that was a win. Trade was a win win for
both sides.
Speaker 6 (41:24):
Penman, Yeah, we listen, you go wherever you're comfortable. Sean McVay, Sam,
it's just stim It's just how it is. Stafford and
Sean McVay. They go go together. They have good chemistry,
they know how to communicate to each other. They want
a Super Bowl together, and you're if you're in a
(41:46):
comfortable in the system, then just stay there. It's no
surprise he hadn't gone to the Giants, had him gone
the Saints, had him gone to Steelers had him going
everywhere except for Detroit. Come on, don't believe ESPN. Come on,
it's a good fit. And Deak Prescott he joined what
he signed back with the Cowboy, so it's no surprise there.
Speaker 1 (42:10):
Yeah, you know what I want to address on that, JD.
Wyatt said, and let's put that back on the screen, Candy, Sam,
Donald's going to re sign with the Minnesota Vikings. He
really is. He had a good system. Ultimately, when he
finds out his value is an aside as he is,
he'll get paid handsomely out there. He's working with Kevin
O'Connell and that's a good situation for me. He can
test what he wants. But his best success as a
quarterback was in Minnesota in a backup role. JJ McCarthy
(42:33):
is ready to take on the job. But let's Fay said.
If you're Minnesota and you have a quarterback like Donald
ready and willing to take over under that system, I
think he stays there.
Speaker 6 (42:41):
J D.
Speaker 1 (42:42):
That's just my thought. Candy, you can wrap up the topic.
We have one more topic after this party shots, so
go ahead. Ken.
Speaker 2 (42:50):
I think one of the things that nobody's really touched
on also is Stafford's a family man. Stafford has four
girls that he's trying to raise, and he already uplifted
them from Detroit out to there. So does he want
to uplift them again and move them, take him out
(43:10):
of school, take them out of their norm. And does
his wife really like it where he's at or would
she want to move? Part of his decision. In the beginning,
I think he was just testing the waters. He wanted
to see how much money other people would throw at him.
But in the end, I think he made a family
decision where he's comfortable, where his family's comfortable, in the
(43:34):
system he knows. Does he want to start all over
in a new system and learn and try and get
along with new coaches and in not only a new setting,
but new players, new facility, new everything like that? That
takes a toll I would, I would think on a
player as well. So I think he made the best
(43:55):
decision for him and his.
Speaker 1 (43:57):
Family, no question. Well, yeah, I know he went off
for this, not only that. Look at Aaron Rodgers. Here's
a guy that I don't blame the situation with the Jets.
That's a bad organization with Woody Johnson, but still he
ends up going there. Matthew Stafford is a lot smarter
in this sense because he has won a Super Bowl,
and he did it recently with a really good supporting cast.
(44:19):
I'm not going to worry about their front office, Bzarre,
because they draft one another. They had bad choyces again,
A candy you make a great you definitely get it right.
Final topic of the night, and this one's gonna come
with a little bit of tape. Jv Ellison. I had
a lot of fun as well as candy over the
Super Bowl. We know we accomplished an awful lot, right
mister Ellis, I know you did and I did. So
here's a sample size of what we accomplished and everybody
(44:42):
I wonder well Darius Slagh returned to Detroit. Go ahead
and run the video and let everybody go, and then
we could go out there and comment on everybody stand
by Darius lay in the MotorCity, man Mouth and New Orleans.
It was not only like yeah, I know John the
cold and try to join heyd just set last kid
(45:05):
in his action. As far reality answers, how wash treating
you here in Chilan out here.
Speaker 7 (45:10):
Like being great man and philing man? I appreciate the fans.
I appentiate this organization and everybody willing.
Speaker 1 (45:15):
To take me in.
Speaker 8 (45:16):
I'm thinking for the coaches here, you know.
Speaker 3 (45:18):
Uh, you know.
Speaker 8 (45:19):
I've been here for five years, captain three of the years,
so it's like it's been a blessing man. So I
think he's been a part of th.
Speaker 1 (45:25):
Baby really answer you took minus questions. I don't like
the way that the culture has changed.
Speaker 7 (45:30):
The Dame Candlers.
Speaker 1 (45:31):
I'm gonna give you something to laugh about. I just
fired a podcast for two rasom. When you call him
master Christian national trash Jim, you gonna laugh back. He did,
but it was okay the home I'm human. Okay, he's gone.
But what w talking about? Game Campbell factive matters and
he changed the culture.
Speaker 8 (45:50):
And speaking to him or he did a great job.
Speaker 3 (45:51):
Man.
Speaker 7 (45:52):
There's one thing about it I can see your coaches
was to make us successful. Coach a lot like I
guess you gotta get guys to buy in. And I'm
saying for that, he made that tea e over that
by in ing that team ball there in the year,
and it didn't got the draft process, you know what
I'm saying. So they got guys that's wanting to learn,
that's coming under one of me, you know what I'm saying.
Speaker 8 (46:10):
So they do a great job. I don't like what
game Camra is doing over that.
Speaker 3 (46:12):
Man.
Speaker 8 (46:13):
I know everybody was gonna.
Speaker 7 (46:14):
Lab playing giggling, but he's trying to fight me kept
But I understand where he's coming from, Like he wanted
to to just sacrifice, you know, some couple of.
Speaker 8 (46:21):
Months to be the best you to be in when
they've been playing off.
Speaker 1 (46:23):
Now, Jack Bond told me he wanted to see the
Canander at the rematch. But but I'm talking to Jerry
Slick Junior. Yea, So the back of your mind, did
you want Opportune in a track upro bechaint Wayans in
the player?
Speaker 8 (46:38):
Ooh man, I mean see the thing is, I'm a
big Lions fan as well. I'm a Lion and Eagle
State soul. So I wanted the Alliance to win.
Speaker 1 (46:48):
So we good player.
Speaker 8 (46:50):
But then again our game.
Speaker 1 (46:50):
When the Spector two.
Speaker 8 (46:52):
But you know what I'm saying. So, but it was
it was a good back and forth. You know, I'm
willing to play anybody about low he didn't want to
play the Washington Committee for day.
Speaker 1 (47:00):
I wanted to spankle do to that the lastly, nobody
can tell the description holds and I'm not going to
go there, so I'm sure And to pack your line
that you checked the special place and when you're probably
bobby enough in their line regis such a such a wat.
Speaker 7 (47:16):
I mean, you have a present to get possible happen,
you know, but if it don't, don't. But I'm always
any things. But I love a viation because I have
the personal basis. I might leave him again, said him,
breaking you once. I appreciate every man based on.
Speaker 8 (47:29):
So that's alway gonna be my second home. So I'm
all have a lot of times I have.
Speaker 1 (47:34):
Nothing but the Gtory Urius. I appreciate the time of
vis through so Slay, I grew up the Cowboys, all right,
So let me preface also what he said in this
particular interview, and I've seen it recently. Darius Slade Junior
calls Detroit his second home. Now the question is will
have become his first home? But Dan, you talk about
a classy individual, this guy is it. And Joe, as
I've told you time and time again privately, as well
(47:55):
as anything, one of the biggest things I've done in
my Super bowls is I love going to these media
availabilities because I'm like a kid out of the candy store.
If they're out there, I'm going to go out there
and talk to them. Again, everybody has a different philosophy
how you cover a big event. But the more you
give me, Candy will tell you she was a requirking machine.
But this guy was a class act. And did you
see the smile when I mentioned Matt Patrasha, Oh my gosh,
(48:17):
it's unbelievable. And I don't allow anybody to talk to
about In fact, I'll go a step further. Coach John Bonomeago,
who is one of ours, took a job at the
University of Tennessee's assistant special team coach, said he wouldn't
work with this guy. And I won't mention the name.
I don't want to throw anbody under the bus. But
you don't call a guy except by his regular name.
(48:39):
But just to see the look on Slave States when
I mentioned that name was another story. George, you were there,
this is what happened. Do you think Slave's coming back? Well?
Speaker 4 (48:50):
I got mixed feelings. I mean, you know, I know
he's had some great success ins leaving Detroit obviously with
the Eagles. I really think that he could probably help
this team out, probably for the veteran leadership as one
item that I think in that secondary they could use.
I just I know that you know whether his ability
(49:11):
still can be maintained that high as he ages it
gets another year under his bell, or you I look
at it. I could go either way on that one, Scott.
But the fact of the matter is, like you said
in the interview, they am with you. He has that
heart still for Detroit. That's important because we all know
that the culture and all of that stuff that changed,
(49:32):
Like you brought up in the interviews, Scott, Darius, he smiled,
he would like it. You could tell he would really
like to come back. Hopefully that the Lions can structure
the deal in such a way that it's affordable for
them and for him. I would bottom line.
Speaker 1 (49:50):
Let me go on record, I don't really, frankly care
what anybody says about how many coaches and Lions left.
So what every team is losing coaches is their assistants
get plucked in a new job. The main thing is
how you bounce back from those particular coaching decisions and
the Philadelphia Eagles definitely did that. And I had another
comment on the other day about Nick Siriani addressing it
(50:13):
lost his coordinators two years later what happened won the
Super Bowl. With that said, I'm transitioning over to jvl's
what are your thoughts. I predicted Slaves going back to Detroit.
Jv Ellis, I said my piece, what do you think?
Speaker 3 (50:24):
I'm not really sure. I mean, you know, you know,
Detroit would never hurt to have another quality cornerback. He's older,
he could help lead the team as far as being
a defensive leader. And as far as you know, coaches
losing leaving after a winning season, that's as a success.
That's what you want when you're a head coach. You
(50:45):
want to win, and you want to see your assistants
get hired as coaches elsewhere, because that means you're doing
what you're supposed to do. If your assistants never leave you,
there's something wrong. They haven't grown to become head coaches
and you're not doing what you need to do as
a leader of the team. But you know, I think
he'd be a good fit to Detroit, But I don't know.
I don't know where he heads up but you know,
(51:05):
definitely a guy I'd love to have on my team.
Speaker 1 (51:08):
That's good. Yeah, you're right. Joe Dan Campbell loves it
when his coaches go out there and get hired, bringing
a new one. It's called the culture is what it is.
You know, he's able to go out there and bring
in these other guys. See what happened to Ben Johnson.
See it happened Aaron Glenn and they got hired. I
want to be next. All we got to New is
keep winning, keep doing what you gotta do, they'll be hired.
And Nick Sirianni, to me, is a perfect example that
(51:31):
you just went out there and saw your offensive coordinator
become a head coach, and then he brings in Vic Fangio.
We all know what happened and New Orleans. The job
he did Miami wasn't good enough because he coached those
guys too hard. When he goes, you go by ninety five.
He coached the Philadelphia Eagles, and guess what, Nick vic
Fangio has a that thing called a championship ring. And
(51:51):
the Miami Dolphins are swimming and disbelieve, trying to figure
it out, and they haven't been relevant and Jimmy Johnson left.
Not gonna get into that. That'll be another story when
Jblis returns back to the States and some good footage
on that. But all right, Benzen, your thoughts about Darius
Slaves here going back to the motown.
Speaker 6 (52:09):
I have two names to add besides Terius Slay. Well
on one other name you could Darius Slay could go
back to Detroit, but you could also get James Bradley too.
James Bradley just got released too, so that's another name
that's been thrown out there too because they released They
released those two players yesterday. So you guys get James
(52:32):
Bradley and Darius Slay too for leadership too. If you
don't get one, you can get the other one too,
So you got to think about that. Darius Slave would
be an awesome corner. He still has some guess in
the tank, not much, but he's got like Quarner tank
of gas left. But if if he stays healthy enough,
he can he can contribute to any team. And as
(52:55):
ESPN will say, he's going to the Steelers, the Jets, this, this,
this and that. But I think he has a good
relationship with Campbell and I think he can go back
to Detroit and be a leader. Like George said, but
just think of James Bradley took.
Speaker 1 (53:10):
We'll do that candy some punts.
Speaker 2 (53:12):
Well, the one thing that none of we haven't talked
about or discussed is the Lions actually have fifty two
point six y nine million in cap space, so they've
got quite a bit of you know, a room in
there that and I think someone like Darius Slay, while
he has told him that he is a great is
(53:35):
a you know, a great cornerback, he might also take
a hometown discount to go back because he's not I
don't think he's done playing. He's he he wants to
continue playing more So I think they might be able
to strike a deal. But should I say, I would
(53:55):
think Detroit would get him probably cheaper.
Speaker 5 (53:58):
Than a lot of other places.
Speaker 2 (54:00):
Now you just never know.
Speaker 5 (54:03):
But I could see him.
Speaker 2 (54:04):
Going back to Detroit and being a leader, a veteran leader,
because as I envisioned Dan Campbell's culture, that they would
really like that veteran leadership on that team. And I
and Darius, to me just seems so enthusiastic, the way
(54:25):
he talked, the way when we were there and talking
to him, that he would be that.
Speaker 5 (54:30):
Great veteran leader at Detroit.
Speaker 2 (54:33):
Do but as a Packer fan in that same division,
do I want him to go to Detroit?
Speaker 1 (54:38):
Now love to Green Bay? But that's another story. Well,
that that was the whole feeling when I talked to him.
I got the feeling that he would be.
Speaker 6 (54:46):
I can see him taking a fifteen year deal. Yeah, right,
it's possible.
Speaker 1 (54:55):
Well, I'm not going any further with that, but I
am going to go into party shots. And I know
JB was probably as one or two on his mind.
They wants to get off the chest, go ahead, And
I started out with party shots place.
Speaker 3 (55:07):
So MLB taking a page out of the NFL playbook
with these overseas games, and not only are they doing it,
but they're actually doing it right. The games in Japan
feature Joheyotani and you have Amoto of the Dodgers, so
Zuki and and Monaga are the cubs. I mean really
(55:32):
just bringing the people in Japan what they want to see.
They're stars from Japan that went overseas to play. They
brought him home to play each other.
Speaker 1 (55:40):
What a home run?
Speaker 3 (55:42):
What where is MLB marketing the other three hundred and
sixty four days a year. They figured this out, how
to appease a country that doesn't even host their sport.
Yet they can't figure out how to promote anything to
do with MLB. They lost the ESPN rights. ESPN said
that we're not giving you a five D fifty billion.
(56:02):
A Kerry said that I baseball, your god. What is
wrong with the people who market this sport? I mean,
do you see that on one head that they are
genius for this? But the other ninety n percent of
the time they got their head of the said.
Speaker 1 (56:19):
Pretty good like it?
Speaker 4 (56:20):
Georgetot Parting shot well. Hockey Town is worried again. The
Red Wings have lost five out of our last seven games.
After such a terrific streak under their new head coach,
Steve Eiseman. You've got to make some moves. You cannot
be afraid to get some more talent here to assure
(56:44):
Red Wing fans that they can compete well for that
final playoff spot or the second night of the last
playoff spot. They got to make the playoffs this year,
I do believe. And I see that only because not
as a fan, but I see it as a as
a proud franchise. As Scott and I have talked many time.
I'ms about the original six and how important this franchise
is to the NHL, as are all the original six franchises.
(57:07):
But you know the two centers went down. Now Grasmussen
and and cop and uh, Stevie, why you just got
to go out there. You gotta have the guts to
move somebody and you bring bring some more bodies in
here that could you know that Todd can have as
as healthy players I mean. And the other thing is
(57:28):
they're not playing good. They're not playing good. The defense
is still suspect. Goal tending to is still a little suspect.
So I'm there's a call out there, Stevie. Why and
I think the deadline is fast approaching for you to
make some moves.
Speaker 1 (57:42):
Okay, right, And by the way, Georgia will join me
on tomorrow's edition of Sports Exchange if we talk hockey. Also, Mike,
Mike Santos is my new guy for hockey. He's not
a really good job. I don't think he'll be on
next week because he'll be out of town. But for
all you folks that haven't didn't see the first hockey
show of Mike Santos, this is they must want this
guy here. As a former assistant general manners of the
(58:03):
New York Islands National Predators and the Florida Panthers, He's
been the commissioner of a couple of professional hockey leagues
as well. Mike Santos, And you talk about a guy
who knows his hockey stuff, this guy is it. And
he'll be joining myself and George Tichlorn tomorrow on the
Sports Exchange on Thursday night.
Speaker 6 (58:20):
Okay, some parting shots and Mike Santos. He did a
really good show the first show. Just want to point
that out. He is really like one hundred percent. IQ
is up there, but my party shots are two. Pittsburgh
Penguins have been playing average hockey since the Four Nations
have concluded. I thought that they were rested. I thought
(58:41):
everything was good to go. I thought everything was good.
Thought they're going to go up the roller coaster. Lately,
I've been talking about roller coasters on my channel. But
they've been sliding downward and been going downward. Christian Jerry
went to hershypa and gave up five goals, and what
do the Pittsburgh Penguins do. They call him back go
They're like, hey, you gave up five goals, Why won't
you come back?
Speaker 4 (59:01):
Go?
Speaker 6 (59:02):
It doesn't make sense to me. The Penguins are not
a winning formula hockey like George Setbelt the Red Wings.
They need to go and make moves like the Red
Wings do. My second one is the Steelers make some moves.
You got sixty billion dollars to play with, got Christian
Kirk available, you got DeVante Adams, you got all these players.
Get some wide receiver to help George pickens out. That's
(59:26):
my party shots, all right, Candy with sures.
Speaker 2 (59:31):
So I sense this hockey theme going on here tonight.
I'm gonna stick with it, believe it or not. And
most times, let's face it, I'm not necessarily your hockey girl.
Speaker 6 (59:44):
Can't say lightning.
Speaker 2 (59:49):
I can rule it into Wisconsin women hockey. Who goes
to them? They are ranked number one, they're regular season
overall this year they were thirty three one and two.
They are the conference record was twenty five one and two.
(01:00:11):
They are playing, they have nine Badgers, were named a
team USA for IIHF Women World Women's Championship. They are
playing in the semi in the They're in not the
Frozen four because they're in the qualifying The semi final
game will be Friday, they play Minnesota Duluth UH, and
(01:00:35):
then the championship game.
Speaker 5 (01:00:37):
Would be I believe later this weekend.
Speaker 2 (01:00:39):
But so kudos to them for having such a great
regular season, and good luck to them in the next
round in this playoffs.
Speaker 1 (01:00:48):
All right, I'm gonna stay in Wisconsin for partying shot,
But this one's interesting. It really really is. Doug Gottlieb
ESPN remember him, Okay, the guy used to talk a lot.
May end up going back there. This keeps going on.
Four in twenty eighth the University of Wisconsin in Green Bay.
He's in last place in the Horizon League. I repeat,
four wins and twenty eight losses. Really seriously, really twenty
(01:01:14):
one game losing streaking. So you think your twenty eight
game losing streaking business was bad, This is worse, especially
over there called the Division two school nobody new, and
what happens you lost to that? Doug? Really seriously, really
you want to be laughed back at ESPN, You want
anybody ever want to take you seriously about basketball, Keep
(01:01:36):
your mouth shut, focus on doing the old chalkboard thing.
Get the right players so that you can recover from
this season. That is a debacle. If anybody's value or
stock drop it was, Doug Gottlieb. I love watching you
on the air. If coaches don't make it, they end
up backing broadcasting. But how can anybody end up in
(01:01:56):
broadcasting with a debacle like this At the University of
Westcott in a green Bay everybody knows about green Bay
being the home and the packers. You don't want everybody
to be known and Uiversity of Wisconsin green Bay in
the news. Reason get it figured out, Doug. Otherwise the
University of Wisconsin Green Bay will figure it out and
(01:02:17):
show that name called the pigs Lip sooner than you
can snap your finger. All right, Well, that does it
for this edition of the Sports Exchange. But before we
sign out tonight, Kandy is gonna give us one more
station break. I know j b Ellis is gonna be
headed out to Tokyo. I hope you and have a
really good time out there. I certainly envy you for
taking a trip like that. I'm looking forward to hearing
(01:02:37):
your stories, and hopefully you'll write a story if you
get a chance to do it out there, to talk
about your experiencecause that will be a human interest all
the way. That'll be solely up to you. But I
really envy you for taking the trip, and I'm proud
of of mister Allis in more ways than you ever imagine.
