Candy Ily till You're in all No what is how
he got up his bag? Attrick? Of course when you
sleep until like five o'clock today, After a very intense
test that I had, I had to let it out
a little bit. Also joining us on this crazy wild
episodes is Jacob christ and Chris.
Speaker 2 (01:05):
One two three four, Sydney Sweety is the perfect score
Here you.
Speaker 1 (01:09):
Go, and Tiger Rowski's in a house. He asked me
in a private chat, when did I have for dinner? Well?
Actually I had Checkers today, but that wasn't until later,
cyber USTI.
Speaker 2 (01:23):
You what I had Chess?
Speaker 1 (01:26):
Did you? Okay? Yeah?
Speaker 2 (01:27):
Absolutely?
Speaker 1 (01:29):
How do you keep your hair so perfect?
Speaker 2 (01:31):
I wake up like this.
Speaker 1 (01:34):
Funny? Actually I'll tell you what since really enough food
moment today what does everybody thinking about the cracker barrel controversy.
I will lead off with Jacob. I mean, you really
had some pretty outspoken comments about this.
Speaker 2 (01:49):
Cracker anymore because they did it, they brought it back.
But this was what I was saying about it, and
I was I would saying a bunch about this. You
guys saw me. It's going to go away anyway, it's
going to go down. It's for old people, it really is.
It is for old people going on their trips and
(02:10):
go see their grandkids. Oh. I remember in those days.
I remember having that showed up. I remember that show
down in nineteen twenty seven. Oh yeah, wonderful. It's like
it's for them, your your nice little ridiculous you're nice little.
Oh we're gonna bring in that. We we don't want
to offend anyboy. We gotta take the old man that
(02:30):
shoots at people, we gotta take him off the sign. No, no,
you don't do that. It's like people, it's like those
people are still alive. And it's like, guess what when
Uncle Herschel is gone, all those people are gone, the
restaurant's gonna die. So let it go with some dignity.
Speaker 1 (02:49):
Yeah, I say, the first time I've had Crack Bros
Actually out in Carolina.
Speaker 2 (02:58):
Dude, I'm this way every week, he always is.
Speaker 1 (03:02):
So yeah, I used to hit these coupons from the
ball club I worked with, and you stay end up
going there. I had to say that I love their
fried apples and their food was just great. In fact,
I have the right down the road for me is
really good.
Speaker 2 (03:15):
So those those fried apples these days are probably like
the same apples from the McDonald's. At this point in time.
You just put in the pridger in the wait.
Speaker 1 (03:26):
Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, don't ruin mine fried apples.
I love my fried apples from Cracker Road. Come on,
Chris n I can give you a lot of slack
ruin my wait wait, come on, hold something slack. I've
only been up about three or four hours. Okay, but
you'll be going off to bed soon, Yeah I will,
I really will. I think there will be a lot
(03:49):
before I wind down and get up in three or
four or five in the morning and do my other
work in the middle of the night. But don't do
it my.
Speaker 2 (03:56):
Hey, Josh, I don't smoke, I don't drink. This is me.
Speaker 1 (04:02):
Ok. There you go. Joshua and you know, you guys
probably popped in on the right showd because we'rerongly with
jovial Lusens and four of us anyways, But what the
reality is is, don't mess around with my fried apples.
I was even talking to Candy tonight. I wonder if
she got one of those rocking chairs they have around
the house, because I don't go anywhere anyways where we're
(04:22):
gonna put. Oh, we'll find a place to put. Hen't
want me a cracker barrel rocking chair, man, I really do.
Speaker 2 (04:28):
But I'll get you to say rocking chair. As as
George House's daughter, you know what she had to do
in her last years, watch really bad football.
Speaker 3 (04:39):
While she's doing you gotta get the big chess board
at the checkerboard too along with it.
Speaker 2 (04:44):
Ed matt Lock, don't forget matt Lock.
Speaker 1 (04:48):
Yeah, I don't know. I have corn over there, but yeah,
I gotta give you that rocking chair with the chicken
and dumplings or things giving stuff. But I get it.
How do you take the the old guy off of
the cracker brow damns too, But that's why they lost
so much money. I mean, they caved in the public
prision then he get the president and he've been talking
about then again, he'll talk about anything. It doesn't make anything.
Speaker 2 (05:08):
Oh he knows who he knows. That's his voter bace
exactly here. This is the thing about this, And I'm
just being honest. This isn't a hate or alike on Trump.
This is just what the truth his voter base. He
came around at the perfect time. He is the king
of timing, always has been. We have seen him on
(05:29):
the news for forty some odd years. He's the king
of timing. He knows that the Uncle Herschel people are
still alive. He wouldn't have had a chance at president
without him. He knows it. He's going to go for it.
Speaker 1 (05:43):
And he did. And yeah, John o'derry right. It was
all marketing technical and it worked. Cussing about it everybody.
Now we're going at we're getting rid of this little
we're bringing on his new contemporary logo, right, nobody likes it.
And then they come out, well we got to us
the North Coast words.
Speaker 2 (06:03):
I mean, it kind of looked like something you would
get online, you know, for the free for the free trial, right,
you get you get one of those free trial things.
It's like, Oh, that looks really good. It's like it's
an opening up our new podcast. We're gonna try this, oney,
we'll get a new one later.
Speaker 1 (06:20):
I think the whole thing was hilarious. I think it
really was. I still like the restaurant. I really people
get I look look at the CEO. You know, she'd
be a great date. You know, she'd be a great date.
She she asked you if you're b l M or
not so candy, you take it all over about this
crazy cracker barrel thing that we're talking about.
Speaker 4 (06:43):
Obviously, it was a great marketing ploy because we're talking
about it and it's you know, where stock was going down,
now it's going back up. We're all talking about it.
I mean, even the President like that was a great
marketing ploy. I mean they hired a new CEO what
two years ago, and let's face now, we're talking about
cracker barrels, and let's be honest, most restaurants are struggling
(07:08):
because the price of everything has gone up so much
that a lot of people that have extra income aren't
necessarily going out to these kind of restaurants. Let's face it,
you know, and then there's people that are struggling and
we know that those aren't the ones that are going
to crackerbil right now. So really the draw and the
people that we're going there, they're not going there as much.
(07:29):
So whatever they can do to drum up people talking
about it marketing, they've got to do whatever they can.
And hey, it's working. We're even talking.
Speaker 2 (07:38):
About well here's the thing, Candy, and you're right on that.
But you want to know who can afford going out
to eat? And go do it? Uncle Herschel just being
very honest. The guy's real name is Herschel probably, and
it's like in there and he's got his wife Helen
with him, and he's got his wife Helen with him,
and they're like, oh, let's go to marry in Illinois.
I got this perfect run over here. It's like, yeah,
(08:01):
what do you think Maldrid or Helen or whatever her
name is. And it's like, those are the ones going,
and those are the only ones that can't afford to eat.
Speaker 4 (08:09):
Do any of you can any of you tell me
how many states have cracker barrels, and how many cracker
barrels there are in the United States?
Speaker 2 (08:16):
Six hundred and fifty for them for the mount I
would guess that there's probably I guess it's probably about
eight states.
Speaker 4 (08:23):
They're in forty four states.
Speaker 2 (08:26):
Really, yes, so they're like they're like uncle Herschel Chick
fil A.
Speaker 1 (08:34):
Okay, it's not on Long Island.
Speaker 3 (08:36):
I can tell you that I.
Speaker 2 (08:39):
Know one to do with those damn things. They probably
they probably break the lot of the rocking chairs with
the two year old.
Speaker 1 (08:44):
Probably, I don't know. Now, if you have to go
all our way to get yours, you're better off with
Coney Island than your neck of.
Speaker 3 (08:50):
It was exactly. I'm closer to Cony Island than the
nearest Cracker Barrel, so Mcan's guy. Yeah, I would go
there first before I go there.
Speaker 1 (09:00):
Absolutely, no kidding. Consider where you're located, right and listen,
I should be laughing at you because back home in Detroit,
we got a lot of Colony islands and they're big
out there. I tell you one thing, every time I
go back home to Detroit, Josh door, Ery'll go back
to those other comment the latest one nobody gave it,
you know what about Cracker Barrel anymore? Until now He's
(09:21):
probably right. A lot of people that this whole controversy
probably caught some people's sure, Josh, I'm talking about it today.
Speaker 2 (09:30):
He's right, He's right with that. But again, it was
the old people and they still care. But the biggest
thing about it is it was even that sign and
the new and the cafeteria. Look they had in there,
and it's so sanitary, sanitizing that wasn't gonna bring one
new woke person in what I've been trying to do,
(09:51):
and wasn't going to bring them in there whatsoever. They're
going to Nathan's, So it's like there, it's like they're
gonna go to wherever. They're gonna make their own food.
They're going to Cracker Barrel no matter what you do
with it, So you might as well keep it the
way it is.
Speaker 4 (10:04):
I think one of the smartest things Cracker Burrell did
was they put themselves next to like these hotels and
they're not. And then you know, so if you're and
it might be the only restaurant around, so if you
all of a sudden you wake up and oh, I
gotta get have breakfast. And let's face it, some of
these hotels are doing their Continental breakfast, which is just donuts.
(10:26):
Who's gonna do donuts and coffee?
Speaker 2 (10:28):
Right, it's it's cinnamon rolls, and it's I have a
package they put no. But then I think the rocking
chairs are there because the old man going, I guess
it down.
Speaker 1 (10:41):
Well, a lot of the hold on your extended days, right, candy, Yeah, yeah,
they are not. That's smart.
Speaker 3 (10:51):
Is there anyone in Alaska? Finy chance?
Speaker 4 (10:53):
Do you think there? Well, that's not one of the
ones that's on. Let's see there are in Alaska, because
there they have a list of ones that there isn't.
Oh no, there isn't Alaska. There's Alaska, Hawaii, Vermont, District
of Columbia, Wyoming, Washington, Oregon, Maine, and the US Virgin
Islands are the ones that don't have.
Speaker 2 (11:15):
So Hawaii does or does not have one?
Speaker 3 (11:17):
Does not?
Speaker 2 (11:18):
Could you imagine? Can you imagine a Hawaiian of a
cracker barrel with those I don't know if.
Speaker 3 (11:24):
Yeah, I don't know if that would work there.
Speaker 1 (11:26):
Yeah, make sure wonder a little bit. Well, I can
talk about cracker barrel all the night, but we have
a few other things. We'll get to.
Speaker 4 (11:31):
Pineapples.
Speaker 2 (11:32):
Those would be fried pineapples.
Speaker 1 (11:35):
Yeah, that's funny, you know. Don't get me started, because uh,
she may have to give me some pineapples before it's over.
If he keeps the pineapple trip going, All right, let's
go to baseball. And I'm just gonna put this out there,
but it's a mind boggling stance that I've never seen before.
Get this earlier in the year, the Toronto Blue Jays
after eighty one games for the third time in four years,
(11:57):
or forty four wins and thirty seven losses. Can you
believe that after eighty one games that has happened in
that twenty twenty two, twenty three, and twenty five. So
get there, forty four and thirty seven three out of
four years. Is that crazy or what? Andy? What do
you think of that?
Speaker 4 (12:19):
So that they're moving in the right direction, I guess,
And you know that is kind of that is very
unusual that you'd have the same record after eighty one
games three of the last four years.
Speaker 2 (12:32):
Well, it's not very Aaron Boone, they were not born
thirty seven.
Speaker 1 (12:36):
That's they basically.
Speaker 3 (12:37):
Had the same team the last few years. They felt
like a around the five hundred team right this year
a little bit better, but you know, the last few years,
that's what that team felt like like a you know,
not a horrible team, but not a great team either,
So it kind of makes sense, you know, to be
right around five hundred with that team.
Speaker 2 (12:56):
I get very Aaron Boone, Aaron.
Speaker 3 (13:01):
Booty, it's no love. Come on, he's just a puppet,
trust me. That's that's not him. It though, that's not
him managing.
Speaker 1 (13:08):
Don't get him going with the Yankees. I actually had
a Yankees topic guy here for him. But the whole
reason why I brought it up, but it was forty
four and thirty seven after eighty one games three in
the last four years. Well you mean that?
Speaker 2 (13:22):
You know what that says to me? Though, it's like
it's pretty good but not so good. It's like it
says a team is supposed to improve itself each and
every year. It's saying that they're kind of staying stagnant.
Speaker 1 (13:33):
But I'll tell you one thing, and I just wanted
to bring this up. I think that looked pretty cool.
It's just pretty hard to imagine the same record three
out of four years. There's no different than going bowling
and getting the same story three executive games.
Speaker 2 (13:48):
If I got that, it would be it would be
twenty twenty twenty.
Speaker 1 (13:52):
Well many years ago, I think I got a I
think many years ago. I got a triple kid at
seventy six, seventy six, and seventy six, So that was
when I was a kid. That shows you what my
bullying skills were like. Anyway, Toronto Blue Day, forty four
thirty seven. Then right now, they currently reside in first
place in the American League East. And for those of
you that don't know by now, I had a one
(14:14):
on one interview with Don Mattingly on Saturday and it's
on the South YouTube.
Speaker 2 (14:22):
Thanks Chris handed from third base.
Speaker 1 (14:26):
No, no, he no, but Jacob, you got to listen
to every brother. I know you can handle. It's only
nine minutes. I'm not nine million, millions.
Speaker 2 (14:35):
And no, no, no, it's all good. No. Well, I
was doing it as a compliment. I mean, maddingly could
do it all. If you're playing third base left handed
throwing them out, you're ridiculous.
Speaker 1 (14:46):
Yeah right now, with my shoulders, I don't know how
my good shoulders are good right and left handed. So
what we're about throwing left handed?
Speaker 3 (14:58):
Yeah, I know one good shoulder.
Speaker 2 (14:59):
Now what happened to your other one?
Speaker 3 (15:03):
That's that's for another podcast.
Speaker 1 (15:05):
All right, Well, you know what I did you don't work.
Speaker 3 (15:09):
Out if we run out of topics tonight, we could
have a little I'll give you a little history about me,
But I don't know if you really want to hear that.
Speaker 1 (15:19):
You know you're not gonna run out of topics tonight,
that's for sure. I'll run out of time before I
run out of topics.
Speaker 3 (15:25):
Good.
Speaker 1 (15:25):
But anyways, I promise the Yankees topic because I have
Chris on so I'll go out there and go back
in time. Alfonso Alfonso Soriano hits a home rall Justin
Verlander against the Tigers that put him in the two
thousand hight club. That was a little ways bug. But
I'll tell you one thing. I always liked Alfonso Soriano
(15:46):
a lot. Here's a guy that never got the publicity
that he should have gotten, but a pretty solid payer.
Well here talks about Alfonso Soriano.
Speaker 3 (15:53):
Chris Ah, I loved him as a ballplayer. He came
up with us and he was unfortunately the guy that
we had the trade to get a rod right back
in right, three, right four right. But yeah, great ballplayer,
second baseman. Then he had to go out and play
the outfield. But one of those guys the speed, the power.
(16:17):
I think, like he said, he doesn't get enough credit.
I mean, he was a thirty thirty guy. Actually four
did he go for? I know he just missed forty four.
I know he did do forty forty one year with
what his one year with Washington he went forty forty.
So he was one of those underrated players that you know,
during the end of the steroid era kind of and
(16:40):
you know, he get he goes kind of under the radar,
but he put up some you know, really good solid
career numbers. Right, four hundred and twelve career home runs,
eleven hundred and fifty nine RBIs. You know, he batted
two seventy he had two hundred eighty nine stolen bases.
So he had a really nice career. You know how
many All Stars, seven time All Yeah, All Star, MVP,
(17:03):
So he had a nice you know, he's got a
nice little resume. You know, probably not Hall of Famer,
but definitely really good player. And I you know, always
enjoyed watching him play.
Speaker 1 (17:12):
I did too, go ahead check him.
Speaker 2 (17:14):
Ah and he was a cub.
Speaker 1 (17:17):
Oh he's well, I got one coming up after this,
so don't worry about it.
Speaker 2 (17:20):
Oh he we knicked everybody here. He had the stupidest
strikeouts all the time. Yeah he could, he could when
he hit, he could hit. But oh he had the
stupidest strikeouts. Oh he had those. He was the Hobby
Baias of his day. But the oh my god, he'd
swing and yeah, I mean it'd be nine feet over
his head and he's swing at it. Oh my god. No,
(17:43):
but he was. I with his numbers. I called him
to James Harden of baseball. It's like, yeah, he's got
all the good numbers. He's got all the good numbers,
but he'll absolutely bar for when it comes to the
big moments. But just what he's but.
Speaker 3 (17:56):
But wait, two thousand and one World Series, he would
have won the World Series for the Yankees in Game seven,
right if Rivera didn't blow the game in the Okay, you.
Speaker 2 (18:07):
Have a good point on the hard one ever get
that close. But still I'm saying the saying, but I've
been I've been saying that stuff for two or three
years with hard or No, it's fifteen years of hard now.
But still but the but no, The big thing about
it is, though I hate strikeouts, multiple ones with an
absolute passion. I think it's very undisciplined. It's very very undisipplined.
(18:29):
It's like, uh, it's but it's like is he can't
when he can hit, he can really hit. Okay, I
got another comparison, Jake Cutler. Jake Cutler, he could really
Jakelly could really throw when he we had his ard times.
I mean that, sorry, I could really rake. But when
they were bad, they're really bad and they came out
(18:52):
the possible worst possible times.
Speaker 3 (18:55):
Jake Cutler would be an interesting topic.
Speaker 2 (18:57):
Oh, good job.
Speaker 1 (18:59):
Yeah, Hey, let me tell you one thing. I got
a lot of Chicago stuff. Find up for Chris hopefully,
hopefully Jake Cutler.
Speaker 2 (19:10):
Go ahead, the old guy. The only guy I hate
worse than Jay Cutler is is Kaled Williams.
Speaker 3 (19:19):
You gotta give a break, Come on, give him, give
him at least another year with no Ben Johnson's I
don't like.
Speaker 2 (19:26):
I don't like makeup on the ball. Oh no, I
don't thank you. I don't I don't like. I don't
like Baby League. I don't like the Baby League spokesman
for my quarterback.
Speaker 1 (19:38):
That's funny. I can't close out this topic. All of
a sudden, we have a shoulders bring into a comedy
show between christ and that's why I'm glad I only
have four people want to watch these two guys tonight.
It's really to watch. So.
Speaker 4 (19:51):
Sorriano is one of only fifty eight Major League players
to hit four hundred or more career home runs, and
was seventh among active players and home runs at the
time of his retirement. He Also, in two thousand and two,
Soriano became the second Yankee in franchise history to record
thirty home runs and thirty stolen bases in the same season.
(20:16):
The first was Barry Bonds in seventy five. He then
repeated the feat in two thousand Barry Bonds.
Speaker 3 (20:22):
Bobby Bonds, Sorry, Bobby Bonds, Barry, Is that all, don't
you think?
Speaker 4 (20:30):
Also in two thousand and two, he led the American
League with six hundred and ninety six at bats, two
hundred and nine hits, ninety two extra base hits, forty
one stolen bases, one hundred and twenty eight runs, and
set a Yankees team record for most at bats and
here's probably a stat he's not happy about. And the
(20:51):
most strikeouts one hundred and fifty seven in a season.
Speaker 1 (20:57):
Third in the MVP there you have it.
Speaker 3 (21:01):
All right, So now let's let's go strike out.
Speaker 1 (21:03):
Let's go on to our Chicago topic comparing contrast. Here
we go, Jacob, I always trying to find one or
two Chicago things on here.
Speaker 2 (21:12):
For my own other guy, I'm sure you do.
Speaker 1 (21:14):
Oh yeah, no, I always do. I always have you
in mind. Christeners. Let me tell you do I ever
you know mister pugnant here but not anyway, Terry Wood
picks up his one thousand career strikeout. The youngest picture
or reached a thousand punch outs, and he did doing
so in one hundred and thirty four games. He broke
(21:36):
Roger Clemens mark. He's just on one of those unfortunate
stories of what could have been. But this guy here,
Terry Wood, was on an unbelievable trajectory. You what do
you remember the most Terry would.
Speaker 2 (21:48):
Remember he was twenty. I remember when he was twenty,
and that's twenty strikeout. Here's the deal. That should have
been a no inner. Yeah, that should know perfect game.
He didn't have a walk. That should have been a
perfect game. It would have been the greatest one of
all time. It's like they can't not a way that
it was an error, that wouldn't have been perfect game,
but never mind, you know what I'm saying. But no,
(22:10):
it was the great It would have been the greatest
no hitter of all time because I mean that they
had an error and he had that whatsoever, but they
gave him a hit and that was an unbelievable game.
And here's what's crazy about it. Next two games he
had thirteen strikeouts each, So he had forty six strikeouts
in three games. So the thing about it, the thing
(22:31):
about him, though, is they blamed the ding Dongs. Want
to blame Dusty Baker for this. They for realized that
he played, he pitched both ends up double headers into
high school. Every everybody in around that, whether college or
in high school or anything like that, whatever he was doing,
wore his arm out because he had such an army,
(22:54):
had such stuff. And he's I hate that. I hate
that people call one hundred some innings the too much
work now, But his issue was the reason.
Speaker 3 (23:07):
Being honest, Yeah, he was one of the best young
pitchers we've seen right over the last twenty years, without
a doubt. I mean, he's basically what even probably better
than what we've seen out of full schemes early on here.
But yeah, I remember, and I actually watched that that
twenty strike because I had satellite TV at the time
and it was w It was on WGN that that day,
(23:30):
so I did watch it. That was incredibly impressive. And
he also did it against the Astros. We had a
pretty good lineup right, they still.
Speaker 2 (23:37):
Had bad He absolutely annihilated.
Speaker 3 (23:40):
Yeah, that's even more impressive.
Speaker 2 (23:43):
Well, the think about it, The thing about it is
it's like he could he struck I mean, Caminetti struck out,
I mean was straight at the three straight. I mean,
these are power hitters, Cavanetti and INDI had, Derek Bell,
you had, I mean, all these types of guys. But
the big thing with the big thing with carry, big
(24:03):
thing with carry by itself, he had the thousand quicker
than anybody, and then he probably it was like, here's
the deal. Larry Bird had seventeen thousand points in the eighties.
He got three more years in the nineties he had
three thousand. He had four thousand total after that. You know,
those types because of his injuries, you just never know. Yeah,
(24:24):
because it ends like that, Yeah, it can end like that,
and it's like you get to that thing it's like
literally Larry Bird was the third to high score of
the eighties Alex English and I forget the other, but
it's like, it's all that stuff, and then he had
to end up with twenty one thousand. Yeah, and that
just and if he would have had those this is
the thing I figured out from his amount, if he
(24:45):
would have those years, if he would have been healthy
all three of those years that he was there, he
would have twenty six thousand points. That's have a check.
So that just tells you what that those injuries.
Speaker 1 (24:56):
Have do to you. Yeah, I mean the whole thing
put in perspective though, and the reason why I brought
this thing up at one thousand careers strikeouts and being
the youngest one in you put him in the same
sentence as Rocket Clemons is too surreal. That's why he
might get there.
Speaker 2 (25:12):
Schemes might get there.
Speaker 3 (25:15):
That's but that's the thing, right with schemes, You're almost
waiting for the injury that did Tommy John to come
right or the shoulder.
Speaker 1 (25:22):
Come on, Chris, I'm hoping not.
Speaker 3 (25:23):
I'm hoping not hopefully. I just hope him. I hope
Scooble stays. You know, another twenty years and I want you.
Speaker 2 (25:30):
The problem is the problem is they go five and
two thirds and out right, well, let's it two that
they won't let they won't let him pitch through right.
Speaker 1 (25:41):
Well, well good, that's a good segue to let you
know that on Saturday, I'll have a talking baseball returns
of myself, Mickey Callaway and former manager Jim Riggle that
will be on as well, speaking of bubs. Yeah, there
you go, nine o'clock. Dam these are time and of
course I'm Friday night. Mickey and I will joined Chris
(26:02):
and Rob on their show as we get ready to
They will give us an opportunity and forum fans of
our show as well. So we enjoyed going on with
Chris and Rob Kenny some times on Carrie Wood. Before
we move on, we have a lot more to get to.
Speaker 4 (26:18):
So Carrie Wood won on to record over two hundred
strikeouts in four of his first five seasons, with a
high of two hundred and sixty six in two thousand
and three. He actually holds several MLB strikeout records, but
he struggled, like we said, with injuries. He was placed
during his career. He was placed on this disabled list
(26:41):
fourteen times in fourteen major league seasons, which included missing
the entire ninety nine season due to Tommy john surgery.
Speaker 2 (26:52):
Wow, everybody blamed this was the thing. Everybody blamed Dusty
because they're idiots. But he had the Tommy Johnny before
that part and they board and in truth, that's just
morons wanting to blame the manager. And it's like the
Cubs when they wanted an O three, they needed them.
They needed every ounce of prior and would every inch
(27:15):
of them. They don't win if they take them out earlier,
try to rest them like idiots, moron dumbass fans do
say you know what I mean, It's like they don't
get that. It's like they needed them every ouncident.
Speaker 1 (27:28):
Well, I only to say this, Well you put the
Kerry Wood story and perspective with Candy and those injuries.
I go back in a time where Marcus burn Friedrich
had a whale of a career and that cutup. It
was cut for prematurely, but it was exciting to watch
when he was out there. I know we could talk
about what would have been with Carrie Wood, but we're
going to talk about what is right now about March
(27:48):
Madness legend Sister Jean who turned one hundred and six.
I sources by Megan Price from the ship Off, so
how that's where I got this information. But obviously she
was a good luck churm for Loyal of Chicago. Were
here talks about Sister Jean turning the big one O six, Jacob.
Speaker 2 (28:07):
Well, when when she dies, you know they're not gonna
make it anymore because they have no reason. No, no, no, no.
That's awesome. And personally, my person my personal thing about
being over one hundred is I look to get to
one hundred and then six more. And if I'm doing
this six years, I'm looking at it as bonus years.
(28:29):
So it's like my main thing is I got to
make sure that I'm healthy enough and I'm walking still,
I'm not in a wheelchair.
Speaker 1 (28:36):
Yeah, this is incret When I saw it was an
incredible story that the woman turned on hundred sixty. My
goal is sixty five and I'm battling hard at sixty two.
So Sister Jean, keep it up. Everybody, we know you're
a March Madness legend, and when you're there, I think
it's a whole different world. When Loyal in Chicago that
was unbelievable. Anybody can have any quick thoughts even though
(28:57):
I know this is up saco Alli.
Speaker 4 (29:01):
The one of the things she said that to see
her secrets to living a long life is loving others
in God, taking care of your mind and body, and
interacting with young people.
Speaker 2 (29:12):
Well, and that's true, that is completely true. It's like
I've always said, I always tell this to the people
on this that is about age. My dad passed at
eighty two, but he was fifty when I was born,
and my parents were eighteen years apart heat by the
time he had his first family, had a second one.
He had a wife that was eighteen years younger, and
(29:34):
two kids in there and two kids in their teens.
In his sixties, and then the big thing about it
is that he still was running his business and it
was construction. And the thing you say this all the time,
he didn't look it. He had his gray hair, but
he didn't look at He had energy, He had all
that kind of stuff. And it's like when it comes
to older age, you got to keep up your energy
(29:54):
and you got to be around youth. And if you're
if you got a kid that's ten years old and
you're going to the school things. All of those parents
are thirty two years old. You understand, are thirty five,
So it will keep you young. You have to keep
your you have to keep your youth and keep your mind.
I agree.
Speaker 3 (30:12):
But listen, my dad is he's gonna be eighty five
next month, and he's the youngest probably eighty five, well,
one of the youngest eighty five's that are out there.
He's so active. He's actually in Disney Disney World right now.
So that just shows you how how youthful he is. Right.
He actually called me today and so he goes, I
(30:33):
don't know if I can go on somebody's rise anymore.
They're a little too much for me.
Speaker 2 (30:36):
But I said, ah, yeah, no, no to him, No, no, Dad,
you're young, right.
Speaker 3 (30:41):
I said, I don't worry about it. I said, just
you'll be fine. And he's great, you know. And that's
the thing, like it's just a number. You gotta you
gotta stay active, that's the biggest thing. You gotta stay active,
keep your mind going as much as possible, and and hope,
you know, and cross your fingers. That's the other thing,
you know. You six.
Speaker 2 (31:02):
I want to make I want to make a hundred
and everything else is bonus. That's because I love life.
I love even with the chaos we see right now.
It's it's leading to something that is a new world,
and it's kind of fun to be honest, I don't
know if it's fun, but yeah, no, I'm saying it's
fun to see where the future is going because it's
are we're not going to recognize. And I'm not saying
(31:23):
it's not it's not fun to see the chaos. I'm
saying it's fun to think of what can come from
all this, and I want to be able to say
what I can. It's like i'd hate I would hate
to miss it.
Speaker 1 (31:33):
Who did you say, Candy?
Speaker 4 (31:36):
You know, my grandma lived to the age of ninety six.
She managed one hundred and ten acre crop farm up
in Wisconsin all by herself. Lived on the farm all
by herself. That's what kept her young, like going up,
you know, getting up every morning, going out doing chores.
You know, she had people, unfortunately, she lived up in
(31:57):
the farm and people would drop off their stray cats
and let them and so she'd feed him. There were
times she'd feed anywhere from ten to twenty cats at
a time. She had a she had a garden bigger
than Scott and our house.
Speaker 1 (32:11):
Like.
Speaker 4 (32:11):
It was a big garden and we'd go up there
and help plant it. But she'd keep it up and
harvest it and give give it to other people. That's
what kept her young because she kept moving and kept active.
Speaker 2 (32:23):
I bet she was tougher than I bet she was
tougher at three dollars steak, wasn't she.
Speaker 1 (32:27):
Oh yeah, So, Katy, do you have my make your
Own kind of Music handy here? Okay?
Speaker 4 (32:33):
Oh gosh, I can get it while you.
Speaker 1 (32:36):
Can tell you know what to dedicate this segment to
Jacob and sister Jean. Okay, we'll see. We got to
put it up there because you know, I'm in a
very relaxing move here and old Chris here. Yeah, I
love it. Yeah, I'm waiting to see Rob tell me
(32:57):
what he did when he was out on his crew.
He'sn't delivered yet, but I'm gonna get him one of
these days. Well, I got to see your version of
make your Own kind of Music, but he went to
Bermuda wherever. Don't worry now coming up after my tape
make your Own kind of Music? Well do We're gonna
do all the fund. It's fun that all right, there
you go. We're having I'm looking for it. Okay, no problem.
Speaker 4 (33:21):
Okay, hold on here, let me now share my scream.
Oh bokay, share a screen.
Speaker 1 (33:33):
Here we go. We gotta have this lighthearted moment here.
I'm glad we keep taking see the right. You can't
(33:53):
go out there and use these things the right way
and make a musical instrument out of them, because to me, chopsticks,
these are metals. So these are good news to go
instruments everybody, I mean later on the boat. And I'm
right now that I know I'm not going to use
(34:14):
them the right way, so we might as well go
out there and entertain you know one full well that
courts or my reality. These little bad boys called chopsticks
that metal make great musical and strung men. Lotorcity man
Mouth is here in the boat and he is here
and is enjoining the foot see you up there. So
(34:36):
you that don't want a new musical instruments out of them,
because I'll say one last time, may your ode, may
your old. So if you want to see this video,
subscribe to the south for a Tribute YouTube channel. That's
right Southolk for Tribute YouTube channel. Then you get to
(34:58):
see my wackiness here at one of my specialty are
looking forward to the food, but I'm not using the
bad boys because they are instruments or food tools for
a Let's see the next time. All right, that was.
Speaker 2 (35:14):
Still more entertained at Cowboy Carter.
Speaker 1 (35:17):
There you go, Thank you. I appreciate it. I will
tell you what you're going to entertain us with your
fund Pundit segment. Go ahead, check out what's on your mind.
Speaker 2 (35:28):
I saw this. I saw this one thing the other
day and it was basically it was a whole little
it was a little screen cap. It was probably a
couple of minutes, and they were talking about what was
going on with baseball, and then it reminded me of
a thing that I saw last night on the Yankees.
The Yankees made a stolen base because the pitcher didn't
even pay attention, didn't even have to slide. You know
(35:50):
that what I talk about, Chris. And it was like
and then they said, how come you don't steal most bases?
How mom, you don't do that? And they said, oh, well,
if I get my percentage down and stuff like that,
it's hard for me. And arbitration it's hard for me
in my contract. That's what the I had said this
a thousand times, and you saw what I was saying
(36:11):
on the Facebook. Agents and managers and the lawyers are
running our sports and they're ruining them. It's like these
this is the thing. These athletes are not. These athletes
should be, especially now when they got more powers, should
be bucking these and these agents. But they listen, and
(36:32):
it does ruin our sport because our sports, not even
our sports ruins them because how many threes do we
see that have our I mean, we don't even set
up the threes anymore. Everybodys shooting for forty feet. Not
everybody is Stephen Curry or Caitlin Clark. Yeah, it's like,
I mean even if you if you ever watch angel rees,
(36:52):
try to take a three pointer, I mean it's, oh
my god. But it's like, but if you've seen those things,
but it's the world we're in, it's like we got
to see it because it's gonna be on TikTok and
we're and it's that stuff and then you see that
and you see football. We have to go get That's
why Anthony Richardson or a Caleb Williams. I'm saying this
(37:12):
word to picks, so darn high is because everything that
you saw was their big, splashy highlights. In mind you,
Caleb had a lot higher throwing percentage than Anthony Richardson,
don't get that wrong. But everything that you see with
them is moving around with like a Benny Hill music
(37:33):
in the background while they're going around and avoiding everybody,
while they're trying to find someone sixty yards open. That
was their highlights. But that's what shows, and that's what sells,
and then it's there. Then it's their combine numbers. We're
not looking at wins, We're not looking at what makes
the thing efficient, what keeps them around. I just saw Matt.
(37:56):
I just saw Matt Shaw's got barely over one hundred innings,
and the people in the and the people online, the
people in the newspapers are literally saying, or is he
being over worked? He hasn't pitched over seventy nine innings
since in twenty nineteen. That was true. I read it,
looked it up and it's like, what are we doing
to these pictures? What are we doing to these everybody?
(38:21):
It's like, did we are the agents literally saying you
don't need to win? Or are they just looking out
for themselves? And that's what I'm bringing up with something
like this. It's like it's gonna have to take to
a point where you have like the Lamar Jackson's and
all that kind of stuff where they represent themselves because
we need to have more the idea of winning and
(38:44):
the thought process and Chris, what's wrong with your screen?
Speaker 3 (38:46):
I don't know you hear me though?
Speaker 2 (38:48):
Right? I hear you.
Speaker 3 (38:49):
Yes, you'll all right, you'll got your la're you'll.
Speaker 2 (38:51):
Got you're laughing and can't get rid of it. But still,
but that's where I'm That is the thing I'm at.
It's like we for them. Everybody talks about, well, how
are we going to get young people to be able
to watch because they say fifty three percent of young
people watch a full game. And I look at in
(39:15):
this boat. No one cares about winning. So if you're
not caring about winning, why with the kids? So why
don't we Why don't we start making a real example
and showing this. That's all I'm saying with that.
Speaker 1 (39:30):
Okay, they're good, all right, We'll move on to our
next topic. Here. This as a standalone for you anyways, Jacob,
and that's this race prospect. Bob Seymour became MLB's first
Bob in fifteen years. You imagine all the names and
he's the first Bob in fifteen years. There's other stance
(39:50):
on him, but this is one that I think is
just unbelievable. I can't believe fifteen years until we've seen
a Bob, until Bob Seymour.
Speaker 2 (39:58):
Candy, how do you suppose they backwards?
Speaker 1 (40:02):
I'll be right, I was figuring, you know, it was good.
I like that. Okay, good way to kim me. So
all right, mister, how do your fellows name backwards? From
your thoughts? Little bit? You get that? Irony?
Speaker 2 (40:15):
Well, I'm waiting for the next Herman.
Speaker 3 (40:17):
Yeah, in this era, I'm gonna step out. Can you
bring me back in, Candy? Is that all right? Yeah?
Speaker 2 (40:22):
No, her Herbert? Where you know where? Where's the next Phil?
Like Phil Rizzuto? You know where's the next Yogi? We're
just waiting, unbelievable, Candy.
Speaker 1 (40:39):
I don't know.
Speaker 4 (40:44):
I don't know either.
Speaker 3 (40:45):
I don't know either, but you can hear me.
Speaker 1 (40:46):
So that's good.
Speaker 3 (40:47):
I'll stay, I'll hang out.
Speaker 2 (40:49):
You know what you look like? You look like one
of those you look like one of those true crime shows.
You don't want to be. You know, you need your voice.
Speaker 1 (40:57):
Yeah, all right, well all right, Chris, how whatever you
look like, give me your thoughts about the Bobs.
Speaker 3 (41:06):
That's pretty amazing, right, is it? Is Bob not a
popular name anymore? Is that the real issue here? That
Bob is not you know, or is not a baseball
player as much? I don't know how many Bobs are
in hockey or.
Speaker 1 (41:22):
Right.
Speaker 3 (41:23):
That's weird. No, because Bob is I thought it was
a pretty common name, so for it to not be
that popular, it's.
Speaker 2 (41:29):
How many Bobs are in apples?
Speaker 3 (41:32):
Exactly. See that's a good point, right there. See nobody
bobs for apples anymore. Right, that's another thing.
Speaker 1 (41:38):
Come on, that's fun. I who you two would find
a way to come up with an interesting twists first
one in fifty years of play in a big leagues Scott?
Speaker 4 (41:49):
Wait a minute, how likely is it that I, who
haven't uncle Bob, marries you who had an uncle Bob?
Like that doesn't happen too often either, Like I mean.
Speaker 3 (42:01):
I have a cousin Bob, Bob?
Speaker 2 (42:03):
What about Bob?
Speaker 3 (42:05):
What what about Bob?
Speaker 1 (42:07):
Yeah? Exactly, yeah, you know, and you know, let's stand
to Bob. What's the most popular serving the name that
they give out these eight bobble heads. I love that.
Speaker 4 (42:20):
I need those chopsticks. But I'm bump.
Speaker 1 (42:24):
Well look for him. We got a mirror somewhere I can.
I'll do a live demonstration of make your own kind
of music on the ear if we have to, I'll
do that.
Speaker 2 (42:33):
We already saw it. We already saw it.
Speaker 1 (42:35):
I'll do it here here in the studio. And all right, anyways,
as I said before, he became the first and'll beat
Bob in fifteen years. That is on well leave, oh
all right, well what that said. We're gonna go to
our first station of break candy go ahead.
Speaker 4 (42:54):

to this one. Rachel Galvin and I will be on
and Jacob, She's a person I have to get you
in contact with. She really is Rachel Galvin, a local
actress in Deerfield Beach. We're going to be on tomorrow. Hey, listen,
if we wanted to come on tomorrow night at eight o'clock,
I can introduce her to her on No limbs.
Speaker 2 (45:37):
It just depends on my schedule.
Speaker 1 (45:38):
By a doubt, I'm well I mean, I'm just telling
you she's a good contact. We're going to talk about
all the different celebrities that she met, and I'm going
to even talk about the recent passing of Tristan Rogers,
who obviously was about Robert Scorpioald have one of the
nice things about the summers, you can try different things
and bring other individuals on that normally would get the
opportunity to come on during their regular season. So Rachel
(46:03):
been a good friend of mine for a long time.
She's my editor over at the Gilperal Beach Observer, and
I saw her last December and it's really good that
she'll be on. Glad to have Chris back. So we're
just previewing a little bit about So I hope you
can join us for No Limits. Rachel Galvin and I
will be on tomorrow. It'll be a lot bigger change
(46:24):
of pace, and she's going to talk about some of
the actresses and actress and she's met, and it'll probably
bring people down a trip to memory lane, So looking
forward to doing that. They'll be around eight o'clock PM
Eastern time. All right, now that we have the pizza
man back in the house and miss A whole lot.
But glad we got him live here. Let's proceed with
(46:46):
our next topic, and that is my town, Candy, what's
going on in your town?
Speaker 4 (46:55):
Oh, my goodness, what's going on my town? This past
weekend on Sunday, the Milwaukee Brewers did a really, really
good tribute to Bob Buker. I mean, I have to
give him kudos because they didn't leave any stone unturned.
They went to the Yuker family and they said, hey,
we want to do this, we want to do it right,
(47:15):
we want your input, and they did. Like Bob Costas
came and he did the pregame ceremony. All the guys
wore their uniforms and instead of their name being on
the back of the uniform and said, Yuke, it is
now the Bob Uker Broadcast Center instead of the press box.
(47:37):
They also did one of the San Francisco Giants was playing,
was in town playing. If any of you know, Willia
Domas used to be on the Brewers, a very well
loved brewer. He came back to town. He actually wore
custom cleats that had Bob Buker on them and were
dedicated to Bob Buker. And it was just all. I mean,
(48:02):
Robin was in town, George Brett was in town, Ted
Simmons was in town. They all spoke. Just a really
nice tribute. Yes, the Brewers did not win the game,
but that didn't really matter because it was about being
you and you know and talking about him. The Brewers
still in first place right now doing well. Uh you know,
(48:26):
we we we will. It remains to be seen, Scott.
We will have a house divided in a week, in
a couple of days because opening of NFL season starts
and Green Bay plays your Detroit Lions.
Speaker 1 (48:44):
Yeah, I forgot that.
Speaker 2 (48:45):
The thing is, it was a perfect opening for a
Uker joke. That's the highest batting average those cleats I
have ever seen.
Speaker 3 (48:57):
But you might get a Super Bowl, I mean a
World Series matchup two de tried. Yeah, it's possible. It's possible.
Speaker 2 (49:08):
But you know something though, It's the thing about you.
He just had fun with it. And this is you know,
you could understood. That's why he lifts the darn log.
He understood his weaknesses and he had and instead of
instead of having an ego about it, he made a
career out of it.
Speaker 4 (49:25):
M hm.
Speaker 2 (49:25):
You know it's he made a career he made an
acting career, made a commercial career, made all that stuff.
I mean, he was Harry Doyle. You know, he's just
you know, just that doing a losing team, of being
drunk while he's doing it, and it's just like and
he was funny and he made Johnny Carson laugh, which
(49:45):
really wasn't that easy to do mm hmmm. And it's
like and it's like and it's like, really, the thing
about it is we us people with the gray hairs.
And then you're how old are.
Speaker 4 (49:57):
You, Chris by the way, fifty three?
Speaker 2 (50:00):
Well you're older than me. I'm forty seven. I just
turned forty seven on the twenty fourth. So but the
but no, but this is what I'm saying, though all
of us are gray hairs, if you will, we talk
about the announcers where the young people don't understand this
thing because all the announcers are now sound robotic and
from a school where they're taught what to say, how
(50:21):
to say and get you know what stuff, have a cadence,
have all this. What we grew up with was Uker,
Harry carry Vin Scully. I mean, who was on Detroit
by the way, who's the one on Detroit Scott Lernie Harwell.
They were conversation of Jack Buck. They were conversations, right,
(50:44):
they were conversations to to the audience and with the
people a partner in the booth, and it's like it's
just a conversation. Everybody's so everybody's on eggshells to say anything,
and it's like, we got it's one of those things
because they're afraid of Tom brennanman deal and Tom Brennaman
was it was just a slip of the tongue.
Speaker 1 (51:06):
Yeah, they're afraid.
Speaker 2 (51:07):
And then say with the Chip Carrey, they're afraid to
say anything because everybody's so darned And it's like it's
got to get to the point where the producers have
got to just say, Ash, shut up, he meant nothing. Fine,
it's really gonna get to that point or we're never
gonna get because if we ever get back to a
point where a producers finally say that, we're gonna see
(51:28):
those same types again. It's not the eras, it's how
you produce thing. They allowed Harry Carey to be Harry
carry Ernie Harwell, Ernie Harwell, they allowed them all because
they weren't. You didn't have a foot on their throat.
Speaker 4 (51:44):
Mm hmm.
Speaker 3 (51:46):
It was a conversation, yes and no, Yes and no.
I'll agree, you know, because there are certain things that
they say, you know, like Brennaman went a little bit overboard.
He knew like he didn't know he was on I
guess or whatever. The guy in what was in Oakland's Yeah, right,
that guy went overboard. You know, he used the N word.
Speaker 2 (52:05):
I mean, that's but no, that was no way he was.
His issue was the fact that it's obviously he did
it because he was supposed to say negro league and
he said that right. That the way he said it,
I was, we're talking about this on a show one night.
The way he said it showed that he says it
before in private, and it was a slip of a
(52:27):
tongue and a mistake. He shouldn't have said it. He
should never even think of saying it. But if you don't,
I was saying this too in our show one night.
I said negro league, negro league, negro league. I don't
have a slip of the tongue because I don't say
that word right. It's obvious he said the word right exactly,
so he should know better. That's the problem. Yes, right,
(52:48):
that was. But that's the point I'm saying though, and
I understand that. And then there's things that you don't
say it that should be common sense, but we don't
have a conversation because people walk up too many gig.
Speaker 3 (52:57):
Shows, right that. I agree, Yeah, some things, it's like,
all right, come on, the guys, whatever, But I understand.
Speaker 1 (53:05):
All right, So what else is going on in here?
Speaker 4 (53:07):
Wait? One last thing, one last thing. This is a
make or break year, I think for Luke Fickle with
the Wisconsin Badgers. He has been there how many years now.
Last year was the first year in like twenty one
years that they did not make a bowl game. I
think this could be. This is definitely a make or
break He's done. He was very successful before. I know that.
(53:31):
We have a tough schedule and we're in a tough conference.
We open up tomorrow night at home versus Miami of Ohio.
Speaker 2 (53:40):
So well, remember this part. He has been successful in
the past. But the Wisconsin's been doing it right, Candy,
They've been doing it right. Is when I say replace
the coaches, replace managers, replace all those you know what
I've always said, I've always said, make sure it's not
(54:00):
just a warm body where things can get worse. Make
sure it's the right replacement. Well they're doing that with Wisconsin,
and he can go out at the right time to
where you can find something. The biggest truth is Illinois
and I and I wasn't the biggest fan of Bielma
being in Illinois because I thought Lovey was love He
did everything he could with him pretty crummy school. But
(54:24):
Bilma has proved me wrong. He's proved me wrong. But
also Lovey got them into a bowl game when they
had nothing, so he he can coach. It's just they
got something better. When you do that, when you get
someone better, you get yourself a chance. It's keeping around.
But when you get rid of people too early, like
a lot of fans want, then you get then you
(54:45):
just get crap. You get mel Tucker.
Speaker 1 (54:48):
Okay, so you say, Candy make or break there for
Luke kel Is that correct?
Speaker 3 (54:53):
Yep?
Speaker 1 (54:54):
Okay, Okay, Jacob, what's going on in your town?
Speaker 2 (54:58):
Oh, we're gonna get it Atlanta. The Falcons is gonna
be an interesting case here because they played third stringers
all pre season and all and it's so now Pennix
is gonna have to figure something out with the first
stringers and they have no reps. So that's gonna be
an interesting situation. And as far as my team in
(55:20):
Minnesota Chicago, it's Caleb, So I think Minnesota wins.
Speaker 3 (55:26):
Okay, Chris, hey, listen, the Yankee swept the Nationals today.
Mets swept the Phillies today. So all is good in
baseball and in New York football. You know, we know
it's starting next week, Jets start against Pittsburgh. And today,
I mean, I just want to give you a quick
(55:47):
name in the press conference with Aaron Glenn. I love
Aaron Glenn, I love the hiring, but you know, this
tough guy attitude talking with the press is starting to
wear a little thinner ready, you know. Like one of
the one of the reporters, Rich Semini, you guys obviously
know him. He asked the question who's going to start
(56:08):
at center? Because there was a battle at center between
Tipman and Josh Myers. Candy knows who Josh Myers is,
right the center from Green Bay, so we brought him in.
So there's been a battle. They haven't named the center
yet a starter yet, so he asked him who's going
to start at center? He goes, oh, a center, will
so Simini goes, Okay, which one he goes? The one
I'm gonna name that I'm not ready to name yet,
(56:30):
you know, like just being a little bit, you know,
not so nice. I get it. You know, Simani's a
little Sumini's been around for what thirty years? I think
covering the Jets. I mean, have a little have a
little bit of respect to the reporters. I know you're
trying to come off as this, you know, the Bill
Parcells type, you know from back in the day. But
(56:51):
first of all, and again, I love Aaron Glenn. I'm
not putting him down. But you know what, you have
proven nothing yet. This is your first time as a
head coach. Prove yourself first. Then you could be Bill
parts Hell's if you want. Then you could be missed
a tough guy. But for now, you know, just answer
the question. You could say, listen, it's a tight battle.
Wh're not. You know, we didn't name anybody yet, but
(57:13):
you know we will very soon.
Speaker 1 (57:15):
Oh number one, I do think I think I remember
him being a head coach of the Chargers for like
one or two years, if my memory serves me correctly.
Speaker 3 (57:24):
No, not Aaron Glen.
Speaker 1 (57:27):
Wasn't Aaron Glenn. You sure you're.
Speaker 3 (57:29):
Thinking of, oh, Anthony Lynn, you're thinking of.
Speaker 1 (57:32):
Oh, that's right, that was way worse Anthony Lynn. Okay,
thanks for correcting me. Well that's all the more, all
the more reason why mister Glenn here better not alienate
the New York media or they'll run him out of
town faster than they can snap their finger.
Speaker 3 (57:47):
I mean, what if someone answered that like you, like you, Scott,
you know you're a veteran reporter, if someone gave you
that kind of like, oh, who's going to start at
center for the for Miami A Center, and you like,
you know, like who the guy I named.
Speaker 1 (58:03):
Well number one? I wouldn't ask that type of question anyways,
I would, You'll say you, I wouldn't ask that type
of question. And the reason why I wouldn't ask that
type of question is I'll wait for a couple of
people and then I'll hit them with a haymaker of
something that I have people's heads turning. But that's just me.
I'm not one of those types of interviewers as book,
(58:23):
that is what you call position specific. I don't question
like that. I got it because especially before you had
your first regular season game. That's just my policy. But
your point is is that you do not go out
there and alienate the media when you haven't got when
(58:45):
you haven't coaching the regular season again, let alone that one,
because they'll run you out of town real real quick.
Speaker 2 (58:53):
Okay, Well, the big thing, big thing about it is
I think bit uf it's one thing if you're going
to sin Tennessee, you know, and you with specific deals.
I think Aaron Glynn understands you got to be your
personality and what it is. Remember he was around Dan
Campbell and it was around all that stuff.
Speaker 3 (59:13):
And maybe Aaron Carcels so he knows, right, I know, yes, listen,
he knows he's got to do this.
Speaker 2 (59:18):
And maybe it's just the fact that you gotta Maybe,
I think, to survive New York media, maybe you have
to be what you are, whether you're winner lose. Because
because I'll tell you this, between Atlanta media and Minnesota media,
there was Norm van Brocklyn and he threatened to fight
(59:39):
both of them. Oh that crust the old dude that
we're threatened to fight both of them. And but at
the end of his life in nineteen eighty three, when
he died of a heart attack. Both cities said, well,
he was the guy that took in kids when their
parents died. So he was a complicated individual. And this
was somebody who threatened for and who didn't even fight
(59:59):
a couple of the reporters. And that was the thing.
He did it in Atlanta, and he did it in Minnesota,
and it was like and they even with that, they
said he was a complicated guy. And it's like, if
you're phony, they'll throw you. They will throw you off
the back ledge if you're a phony nice guy. If
you're a phony tough guy, they will throw you off
the ledge. So you might as well be what you
(01:00:20):
really are.
Speaker 1 (01:00:22):
Okay, interesting perspective. Let me give you some information in
my town, c Owns, and I'm gonna about Detroit a
little bit. First of all, the Detroit Free Press and
Detroit News are going to end their joint operating agreement
at the end of twenty twenty five. Just another sad tale.
What's going on in the newspaper industry. It really is.
(01:00:44):
Have you been doing enjoy the joway for a while.
It will end at the end.
Speaker 2 (01:00:48):
Of the year, which will go away.
Speaker 1 (01:00:51):
Detroit News and the Detroit Free Press are going to
end their Joint Operating Agreement. Now I don't know if
they have investors that would go privately or not. They've
been working together for the last so many years, and
the JOA will end at the end of twenty twenty five.
That's IE number one. Item number two is a field
good story. Let's go to Florida Atlantic. We'll talk about
(01:01:14):
their annual report. This is the twentieth consecutive semester that
they've had a GPA above three. That is good to see. Also,
two hundred sixty four million dollars in philanthropic efforts. They've
given away three point three billion and earned media record,
(01:01:37):
I mean, and of course their GPA is three point
three four. You cannot ask for a much. This is
what student atlet is about. And this is a university
in their backyard that's doing some pretty good things. And
they've had six conference championships and NCAA tournament appearances, So
they're doing it on the field and a lot of
these sports and they're doing it. Think about two hundred
(01:01:59):
and sixty four million dollars for philanthropy giving three point
three which which school Florida Atlantic.
Speaker 2 (01:02:07):
Well, let me tell you this Dion's got him around
three point two or three as far as their GPAs.
It's and true in the Florida Atlantic. I love hearing
that too. The thing is, this is a much more
competitive world, much more competitive world now. It's like you
better be at the very This is not just okay,
(01:02:29):
you're gonna go be a mechanic if you can't, if
you can mix it at school, they're doing things for
mechanics now. It's a competitive, competitive world and they're teaching
these coaches are teaching them that now, and I love it.
Speaker 1 (01:02:41):
Yeah, don't sleep on FAU. I'm gonna tell you some this.
This school here was in the Final four a few
years ago under Dusty May. John Jackus is doing pretty
good job, hoping to Lando one on one before it's
all said and done. I haven't met their football coach,
will be though, Candy and I'll be doing a fair
amount of their games in the next several months on
(01:03:02):
top of the University of Miami. So it's just good
the FA. He is getting it right on a lot
of accounts. But when you think of two hundred and
sixty four million dollars just in philanthropy alone, says a
lot that really really does, and then giving another three
point three billion, and then in earned media records. That's
us unbelievable what they're doing over there. Really happy for
(01:03:23):
the Owls and Athletic director Brian White. All right, well,
now we're going to go to our feature topic of
the night, and that's the durability of tennis legend Roger Federer.
Roger Federer has played in fifteen hundred and twenty six
matches and never retired from a single one. This talks
about commitment and sportsmanship. Candy, I know how much you
(01:03:45):
love tennis. Roger Federer, to me is one guy on
the tennis circuit I can tell you I wish I met,
but he is really proving the modern tennis industry to
be what it is. Just an unbelievable player in so
many different ways, an iron man in his own Candy
taken away.
Speaker 3 (01:04:03):
So.
Speaker 4 (01:04:04):
He was born in Switzerland. He turned pro back in
nineteen ninety eight. He retired September twenty third of twenty
twenty two prize money. He has won over one hundred
and thirty million dollars, third all time in earnings. His
(01:04:27):
career record in singles was twelve hundred and fifty one
to two hundred and seventy five eighty two percent. He
has one hundred and three career titles, which gives him
second place in the Open era. His highest ranking was
number one back in two thousand and four. He's won
(01:04:51):
the Australian Open one, two, three, six times, the French
Open one time. He's won Wimbledon one, two, three, four,
seven eight and the US Opened five times. Now those
are all his singles. He has also done doubles. He
is actually one hundred and thirty one with a ninety
(01:05:12):
three losses career record. In doubles, he has eight career titles.
The highest ranking in doubles was number twenty four. But
he also has Grand Slam doubles for Australian, French, Wimpledon
and US Open as well. He's done the Olympics, He's
done Davis Cup, Hopman Cup. You know, as I think about,
(01:05:35):
like I used to play tennis, and I loved tennis
and I still do. We've actually had some really good
tennis players to watch over the years, if you think
about it, that Bey.
Speaker 3 (01:05:48):
On board, John McEnroe.
Speaker 4 (01:05:52):
John McEnroe, Jimmy McConner, Jimmy Connors.
Speaker 2 (01:05:56):
Did well, that was my first hero.
Speaker 4 (01:06:01):
Yeah, you know Andre Legacy, you know, and he married
Steffi Graff like that just what a match made in
you know, on the tennis court.
Speaker 1 (01:06:10):
Right.
Speaker 4 (01:06:11):
But as I look back at athletes in general, when
you look at tennis players, you don't see the thugs
of the world or you know, or the problems that
you see in some of the other sports. At least
I haven't seen it. So but Roger was always I
(01:06:33):
mean him and Nadal had so many epic matches, like
you would just watch that and you know, I mean
it was crazy. He was, he was up. He included
he was a record two hundred and thirty seven consecutive
weeks and number one, Like can you imagine that, I
(01:06:54):
mean consecutive, that's a long time.
Speaker 1 (01:06:58):
Well, let me tell you I met many years ago
Bjorn Borg went South Florida, hosted Savant and did an
interview with him. He's a nice guy. Of course, everybody knows.
I have a picture of Jimmy Conners and George's book
Detroit Sports Broadcast is on the air. Jimmy wasn't bad
rough around the edge as he definitely, but my experience
on the most part with Jimmy was pretty good then,
(01:07:20):
what can you say? I mean? I saw Andre Agassi
play in a tennis match over at the Palace of
Auery Hills. That was actually the first event ever held
at the palace, and George Eichorn and I went to it,
and yeah, it was good to see him line up
with Stefan Kraft and they're doing pretty well. So tennis
has a lot of big names. They really have had
a lot of big names. But when you just think
(01:07:42):
of the numbers and what Roger Federer has done on
his own, it's just surreal. This guy here, I've never
met him, but I hear he's a really nice person,
but he lets his but he plays all the time,
and he's an iron man and he not legally is
he an iron man? Okay, he wins right.
Speaker 4 (01:08:03):
One of the other names that I didn't put out
there was Pete Sampris too, like.
Speaker 1 (01:08:06):
Well, I mean, Candy, let's not get ourselves, okay. Tennis
has a great history of a lot of excellent players.
They do, and I get it, I really do. Now.
I want to thanks to people in sports or obviously
posting reposting the stream on Twitter acts, thank you so much.
Speaker 2 (01:08:28):
I am I still play tennis. I've played, I've still
played tennis. I'm pretty competitive. I'm not I'm not gonna
say I'm gonna beat sampres For or Federer or any
of them by stretch of the imagination. But I'm pretty
competitive player, and I've watched all my life. My first
hero was bors Becker, then it was Sampress. I used
(01:08:48):
to play against my My dad build our house so
we had really really strong garage doors, so I played
against the garage door. My very first tennis racket was
my brothers Connor's metal racket. Flunk Flunk Flunk did it
three hours at a time, sometimes in my jeans, you know,
through the I used to play a lot of tennis
(01:09:09):
and jeans, believe or not. So so it's he makes
it easy and shorts, but and it's like, and I
got all that kind of stuff in my I've had
many favorites.
Speaker 1 (01:09:19):
I was.
Speaker 2 (01:09:20):
My favorites were Federer and Ferrara. Towards the end of
that part that be for and it was always hilarious
to watch Federer and Ferrer go at it because it
was like a construction worker meets a CEO with the
way that their styles were just like that dumb. It's
just like this, like Federer would just like move him
(01:09:41):
around and barely walk and he would go like a
bat out of hell. Ferrera would He'd go like a
bat out of hell and still lose. And it kind
of it just kind of shows though, where talent lies,
you know, and I mean the differences in the type
of game. And Farrera was number three in the world,
so it says these type of things about this. And
(01:10:02):
then I mean, I loved, you know, like I said,
I did like McEnroe, and I did like and I
did like, let's see Sampris Todd Martin was pretty cool.
But I mean, and then I like the servers go
even Ivanovich. I liked Ivanisevich, I liked John Isner. I
(01:10:23):
liked all the different the biggest but the biggest thing, though,
I'll tell you, the most durable that I could ever
see is Martina and nov They're about to LoVa right.
Speaker 1 (01:10:32):
Well, believe it or not, now that you mentioned that,
I want today Pulle interview with Jimmy Arias he was
a super Yeah. I actually had it arranged many years ago.
I was so, yeah, there are some Oh, but you
know what my biggest one was years ago was Arthur Ash.
I ended up doing an interview with Arthur Ash over
in Palm Beach County. We talked about how to be
(01:10:54):
a well conditioned, how to be a well conditioned and
I spent time with Arth Well.
Speaker 2 (01:10:58):
And one of the I'll tell you another one, Chris
Everts ninety career winning percentage five straight, Clay Cort, Clay,
Gorbony matches. One's that's just ridiculous. And then that you know,
if that is that's consistency.
Speaker 1 (01:11:14):
If I could, I've said this nine million times over
camera phones and we had him back then, I would
have loved to have had a photo with Arthur Ash.
Arthur ashe to me, Yeah, that's why. Why do you
think that? Why do you think this guy got everything
named after him out in New York with the tennis
Arthur Arthur.
Speaker 2 (01:11:33):
Well, Arthur class. Arthur Ash was absolute class and he
really was. And and in truth he did say things real.
He was like in one case about McEnroe, he would
be detest McEnroe's attitude and in the other case he
wishes he could beat him but he couldn't get away
with it. But in truth, I like that Arthur ash
(01:11:54):
wasn't like that. I like it that way because to me,
and I'm just being honest, in any sport, have I
just even fighting or any of that kind of stuff
we think of George Foreman. Okay, I think the calmest
ones are the most dangerous. They're the ones that are
the most dangerous. You don't know what they're thinking. You
don't want to if you get the ones that are
(01:12:15):
angry all the time, they're easy to tip over.
Speaker 1 (01:12:18):
All right, So let me ask no panel here any
final thoughts. So, oh, Federer, I'll just give you some stats.
Speaker 3 (01:12:27):
Out of the players that have won all four Grand
Slam titles, Federer is third on the list with twenty total.
Raphael Nadal has twenty two, and the one that has
the most Grand Slam titles that have won a four
is Djokovic with twenty four. And like you said, consistency
(01:12:49):
especially now, I'm you know, I'm I've watched tennis, not
a huge fan, but I do watch it. But you
could tell, like now, it's it's speed and power, right,
So to be that, to be that good for this long,
that's really really impressive. I mean, you just can't do
that in any in any sport really, and then especially
(01:13:11):
in tennis, and these guys are I mean, just the
speed and the power of these guys. It's just amazing.
Even the women now right with how look how Serena was,
I mean, she was just just unbelievable, how much he
dominated the women.
Speaker 2 (01:13:24):
I get to look at an addresses.
Speaker 1 (01:13:27):
The other thing.
Speaker 4 (01:13:28):
The other thing you have to think about when you
think about specially guys tennis is long. Is not only
longevity but stamina. Because some of those matches five six hours.
Ye you know what other sport do they go that
long and play that hard for that long?
Speaker 3 (01:13:45):
Yep?
Speaker 2 (01:13:47):
I did that one time.
Speaker 3 (01:13:49):
I had no halftime either, right, there's no halftime in tennis, right, yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:13:54):
No, no, no.
Speaker 2 (01:13:55):
I played to the buddy of mine. He was a
he he played semi, he played low level probs and everything.
His name is Christoph. He and I played ninety games
of tennis in a day, six hours forty two minutes.
And I'm telling you right now, he was playing soccer
the next day and I was laying in bed. I mean,
that was an athlete. I am not in that level,
but pretty cool.
Speaker 1 (01:14:15):
All right, You know what I want to go back
on the fau statch. I wanted to make sure I
got complete clarification on it. I know it was going
through it pretty quickly, but let me just give you
the numbers one more time. Twenty six point four million
and philanthropic giving. They have that, the Paradise club record
for the third consecutive year. That's unbelievable. Three point three
(01:14:35):
billion in earned media, got that earned media school record
for a third consecutive year. Three point three four spring
GPA school record for a single semester. It gets better
than that, twenty consecutive semesters with a GPA above three
point zero. And last he has six conference championships and
(01:14:58):
NCAA tournament appears and says that says a lot.
Speaker 2 (01:15:02):
Do you know, here's the deal. Do you know what's
awesome about that, Scott? The most awesome is this is
a world of legitimate diversity everybody, every single time. I
mean it can be I mean on any single team,
whether it's on football, baseball, any of that's basketball, any
of those. You can have black, white, Asian, any of
(01:15:24):
those different worlds, different cultures, different everything. And he's got
every single one of them as the average of a
three point three Yeah, that's that's which means that I mean,
these are different personalities, which means that they trust him
and believe in it, they listen to it.
Speaker 1 (01:15:41):
Well, let me tell you, I'm Brian White and I
are pretty good friends. The athletics or create some an
unbelievable job with that athletic apartment. I just wanted to
go back on my notes to make sure I've got
older numbers correctly. That's why I.
Speaker 4 (01:15:54):
One last thing just to add to you, Scott. If
those of you that don't know FAU owls football, they
only began playing in two thousand and one, so they
have not been around for a long long history, like
like Michigan or something like that. So to begintting those
numbers already, you know, it's pretty impressive.
Speaker 2 (01:16:15):
We know who started it too.
Speaker 1 (01:16:18):
Yeah, yeah, my father figure, Howard Schnellenberger, Thank you very much. Yeah,
I don't he Why was that the first two Bowl
games they went there? So you talk about the relationship
I had with diemantically, Howard Schellenberger was like a father
figure to me as well, So I just wanted to
make sure we got that out there. All right. Well,
let's go to our non sports top tonight. Only a
(01:16:39):
few more topics to get to one of.
Speaker 2 (01:16:41):
Them early mornings, so we got to get moving soon.
Speaker 1 (01:16:45):
But well we will, okay, but let me go through
the show so we can get it done. I mean,
I don't know when you keep giving me these restrictions,
so I want to make sure you get all your opinions.
And where do I go? I mean, you can't handicap me.
This is your show with me. I'll let you do
it if you want, but you gotta let me get
the topicsent. All right, Well I'll make this one easy.
(01:17:08):
You don't even have to comment on this one. I'll
just put some information on that's impossible. Yeah, well, well
I'm not on this one. Don't worry. Are non sports
topic of the night Japanese Bullet Japan Bullet trains have
carried ten billion passengers in sixty years with zero injuries
from train accidents. Started in nineteen sixty four, the since
(01:17:30):
has expanded to connect major cities across the country. How
about that. No, we don't have subways or anything like that.
We have a japan Bullet trained people that I mean
ten billion people over sixty years, but no injuries. It
doesn't get any better than that, all right, mister.
Speaker 2 (01:17:50):
Opinions, mister fat no, no. But the biggest, biggest thing
I saw with that is that they were once twenty
five seconds and gave all their money back to them
for that day. They're that efficient. But but you know
what I could say, though, the reason they get everything
done like that is because they don't play it by politics.
Speaker 1 (01:18:09):
Like that there.
Speaker 2 (01:18:10):
They don't. It's like, right now, New York has tried
to get a New York has tried to get a
bullet the train, and they just and they're no longer
getting federal money because they waste everything. And it's like
and see, both sides are playing politics there. And I'm
just gonna say this point. I remember the whole thing
(01:18:31):
with the ice rank in New York. You know what
I'm talking about, Chris. I know the whole point with
the ice rank. This is the only thing I would
ever say, quit doing that with the bullet train idea
and just taking the money away and not letting them
be stuff like that. If you're a big bill, they're proven,
and do it yourself and embarrass them. That's all I'm
bringing That's all I'm bringing up, because we really do
(01:18:53):
in this country need bullet trains like that. We need
that kind of infrastructure well.
Speaker 1 (01:18:59):
In Japan ahead of us on that one.
Speaker 3 (01:19:01):
So people with with the with the injuries on the train,
does that include like, uh, self inflicted injuries, because there's
a lot of people that do that here, like they.
Speaker 1 (01:19:15):
Of my notes here. Okay, christ I'm only giving it
to you the way I see that. If they were
self inflicted, it's being self inflicted. Let's stay on with
my partes, Okay. I have to see you with that
one journalism. Stay on course with my source, okay, and
I will read it to you again. Oh Christy, I
(01:19:36):
stay on course with my sword. Don't look for the
average New Yorker. I'll hear the facts. Is there this
or is there that? No? No, this is what I have, okay,
stamping bullet trains of Kerry ten billion passengers that you
need to be thinking. This is a disney World, Disneyland,
this is Japan. Okay, it's six There was zero injuries
(01:19:59):
from training accidents and they started sixty four.
Speaker 3 (01:20:02):
From Okay, all right, all right, that's fair. You know
what a big thing and I'm just gonna throw this out.
There's a big thing. Uh, Now, like what these kids
are doing is they're jumping on top of the train
and they're like surfing. I know, I'm with you, that's
kind of stupid.
Speaker 2 (01:20:23):
There's no Japanese surfers.
Speaker 1 (01:20:25):
Listen. I got a guy here who's got a bedtime
and he's not worried about whose time and on top
of the all right, so I'm gonna.
Speaker 3 (01:20:32):
Make let him go because hey, if you want to
do that, go right going on top of them. All right.
Speaker 1 (01:20:39):
I'll tell you one thing. I got a treat for
you on Friday night, because you're trying to go out
there and put kids on top of these. I got
two topics. I gotta get Christmas opinion. Then you can
go night. Okay. We want to make sure we respect
this early time. And he's I mean.
Speaker 3 (01:20:58):
Just standing.
Speaker 1 (01:21:00):
I don't have like for her to kick around the night.
So I need somebody to where do he go? By
the way, he's on vacation this week? All right? Here?
You want to get Jason, I mean Jacob kicked off
Buffalo Bill's fans on social media, criticizing Terry can't bu
you for driving around their mega yacht worth one hundred
million while local tax bases are paying at least age
(01:21:22):
undred and fifty million for the team's new stadium.
Speaker 2 (01:21:25):
You stole my other thing for the night, done that one.
I was gonna talk about that. Okay, let's let's bring
a little monetary called monetary called great minds.
Speaker 1 (01:21:38):
Take a leg, Jacob, you've been around me.
Speaker 2 (01:21:42):
Let's bring a little monetary education to these morons. You
know what that boat is. That's not one hundred million
dollars in cash.
Speaker 1 (01:21:52):
That's a lease.
Speaker 2 (01:21:54):
That's a lease, I promise you, that's a lease. There
aren't people buying anything. They don't buy their cars, at
least their cars. Number two, guy's worth eight hundred The
guy's worth than billions. He has eight hundred million dollar stadium.
That's not eight hundred million in cash. His billions are
in cash. They're an investment's assets, they're in the capital gains,
(01:22:17):
they're in all of those things. The cash is probably
twenty percent tops. And that is an education in monetary things.
And I would I wish more people would understand that.
Then they would not complain so much that you want
to know who the last person who built their stadium
with their own cash, Joe Robbie, and that was in Miami.
Speaker 1 (01:22:42):
He did that. I don't know.
Speaker 2 (01:22:43):
He probably had more cash than he really had, but
no one is going to build on their own cash
with the way, especially with the way cash stretches. Now
they get eight hundred million dollar stadium hypothetically could become
two billion. People don't keep two billion cash around. And
it's like, these are the things that these people do.
(01:23:04):
You understand? This is why we have so many poor people.
And I'm not saying that we don't have a lot
of people and screw, but we don't have a lot
of monetary education either.
Speaker 3 (01:23:14):
What about the rich guy in Japan that we were
talking about last week that built a h a racetrack, right,
Skuy you brought that up last week. How much was
that racetrack?
Speaker 1 (01:23:26):
Well, what was it?
Speaker 4 (01:23:27):
Like?
Speaker 2 (01:23:27):
A hundred million? Hundreds of million?
Speaker 3 (01:23:29):
Yeah, well for nothing for his wife? Right, come on, But.
Speaker 2 (01:23:40):
But he stole my last thing. But I'm glad he did.
But I wanted to be able to bring that part up.
Speaker 1 (01:23:44):
It's like.
Speaker 2 (01:23:46):
They all get complaint. They think, Okay, he's getting a
eight hundred million dollars stating it's worth billions he's got
I mean, I mean, I think he's a one hundred
million dollars yacht. He paid all in cash. This is
why you're all idiots.
Speaker 3 (01:24:00):
Well what's on that boat? That's what I want to know.
Speaker 2 (01:24:03):
Yeah, the least payments for two or three years they'll
get rid of to get into one.
Speaker 1 (01:24:10):
Yeah, the only thing I want to pay about. Buffalo
should be thankful that they're building a stadium that they
can keep the bills because they didn't want to. I'm
sure they would have moved by now anyhow. So Candy,
go ahead, you got last words that. I got one
more topic to get and on, Jacob, you don't have
to hang around for the NFL up pate. Well, just
go through them and then we'll just comment regular round.
Candy's some final thoughts about the Padulas in their yacht.
Speaker 4 (01:24:33):
You know, they've got money. They can spend it how
they want. Like, that's their prerogative, you know. And I mean,
I don't come in and tell anybody that's any of
those Buffalo fans what they can spend their money on.
So why should they be telling the owner that what
he should be spending his money on. He wants it.
(01:24:56):
His investment is in the Buffalo bills. His yacht is
for him to enjoy. Like he has money, let him
use it how he wants to. Uh, we were just
talking about I was talking with somebody else earlier.
Speaker 1 (01:25:08):
Today.
Speaker 4 (01:25:10):
You're not going to remember what iPhone you had. You're
going to remember the things that you did, the places
that you went and saw. Like Scott, you keep talking
about how you loved Iceland this year and it was
a great trip, and that you want to do more
of it. So this guy has a yacht so he
can go do those kind of things. Why should we
be questioning him spending money Because he's got a yacht
(01:25:33):
and he can, he can afford.
Speaker 3 (01:25:34):
It, go and enjoy.
Speaker 2 (01:25:36):
You know, those morons that spend that money on the
Buffalo Bills fans and morons that spend the money they're
usually spending on their lost bets.
Speaker 1 (01:25:47):
Yeah, I won't again. We can talk about saying conspirazies
who should be spending a bill and who shouldn't. But
I think the Buffalo Bills fans, they can criticize all
they want, they should be thankful that they have NFL
football Western New York. Last thing I wanted to get
to before Jason has to sign off Texas versus os
U Ohio State is the most expensive Week one matchup ever.
(01:26:09):
The cheapest ticket three hundred and twenty eight dollars. The
average fan is going to spend five hundred and thirty
two dollars to secure a seat. And get this, nearly
thirty percent that's come from Texas Longhorn fans. We all
know that they like to travel, and the Longhorns got
money to burn, comes to traveling with the heck of
a matchup. I'm looking forward to watch it when your
(01:26:31):
talks about the Jacob the fans spending this kind of
money to go to the Horseshoe.
Speaker 2 (01:26:35):
Do what they have to do, but they're gonna be one.
They're going to be watching Matthew McConaughey on the National
TV to do big long horn salutes and then they
lose fifty four to twenty.
Speaker 1 (01:26:48):
Okay, fair enough. I know that you don't have a
lot of sympathy for fans anyway, I know I have.
Speaker 2 (01:26:54):
A lot of sympathy for fans. It's like, no, the
biggest thing about it is it's kind of funny to
watch McConaughey get all huge, it gets all dressed up
in his cowboy hat and gets all that stuff. Every
time he does it they lose. It's not like the
Bears wearing all blue. It looks, it looks awesome, but
they still lose.
Speaker 1 (01:27:10):
Let's not kid yourself. You don't. I've known you a
long time, Jacob. You have a disdain for fans, don't you, Big,
big time huge exactly. That's why these topers were brought
up with you in mind the Buffalo bills. I have
to think about you, Jacob. You know I.
Speaker 2 (01:27:28):
Right, that's fans of Brons.
Speaker 1 (01:27:31):
Come on, Chris, this guy doesn't like fans. Why do
you think I got the Buffalo building, the Texas long
arm time a damn No.
Speaker 3 (01:27:37):
Fans of war, No fans with Phil's mafia jumping into
jumping and breaking.
Speaker 2 (01:27:43):
A What makes them stupid? They use their head?
Speaker 3 (01:27:46):
What's the I don't see a brama. What's the problem.
Speaker 2 (01:27:49):
Because because those are the same type of people that
can they put their head through a table. Then they
wonder about money and they're not educated in it.
Speaker 1 (01:27:58):
So there you go, mister fans. Christener, That's why I
bring certain topics on the show because I know it'll
get his goat and we'll get the best opinions out
of Christaer we can get.
Speaker 2 (01:28:08):
You'll get the best backs I better have.
Speaker 1 (01:28:10):
I know he does. I'm glad you made it for
these a right, Jacob, see you next Wednesday night. Thank you, Jacob.
I'm telling you that's why he's that's why he's a
feature on this show. Be goes great. I know, I
like to I like he's one of those types of people.
I know how to press the right buttons on. All right,
Chris Candy, some thoughts about the os U and the
(01:28:30):
amount of money that fans are going to pay, and
then we'll go on our NFL updates.
Speaker 3 (01:28:34):
You know what I'm looking at seat geek. Now, it's
crazy the price is. You're talking three hundred and something dollars,
four hundred bucks for the upper deck. I mean, it's
it's insane for a week one matchup that no matter what,
if you lose, you still it's not going to ruin
your your season. I mean, we seen Ohio State loose
to Michigan last year in the final regular season game, right,
(01:28:57):
and they still went on to win the National championship, Right,
So losing Week one is not going to be And
it's a non conference game obviously, so it's not gonna
you know, it's it's a great.
Speaker 5 (01:29:08):
Matchup, right, we're talking about the money that they're paying
to do it. Yeah, but I'm just saying I wouldn't.
I'm not going to spend three hundred bucks delive it
to sit in the upper deck. I'll sit at home
and watch it. It's a week one matchup.
Speaker 1 (01:29:22):
I agree. In fact, you're gonna spend any kind of money.
You just go to the game and you wait for
the scalpers when they have to get rid of them
met the very end, and yes, get them, then go ahead.
Speaker 4 (01:29:31):
Candy, And I might disagree with you guys, because this
is such a big game, such a big market. Yes,
it's the outcome isn't going to determine the future or
it might, we don't know, but it's such a big
marquee game.
Speaker 3 (01:29:46):
I get it.
Speaker 4 (01:29:47):
They're all and we're talking. Come on, we're not talking
f a U owls. We're talking the Ohio state. You
know you got to put that V in front of it.
One thing I will say one of my favorite memories
is my dad and I went on what I would
(01:30:08):
say a big ten tour and we got to some
of the big tens to stadiums. The Horseshoe is one
of them. Obviously, you have to, like you have to
go to the Big House, you have to go to
the Horseshoe. It's one of those iconic ones in the
Big ten. Is it a great place to watch a game? Well,
it sure was when my Badgers beat Ohio State the
year that we went. You know, that always helps. But
(01:30:31):
you know, it's one of those venues that I can
see where they're going to get more money for it.
Are some people going to want to pay for it?
Speaker 3 (01:30:42):
You know?
Speaker 4 (01:30:42):
I mean, yeah, it's not the Super Bowl where you're
paying four or five thousand dollars. But in today's prices,
the price of everything has gone up.
Speaker 1 (01:30:51):
Yep.
Speaker 4 (01:30:51):
You know everything you talk about you used to go
to and I hate to use this analogy, You used
to go to fast food and you have there was
more of a dollar menu. Now now you get barely
have a dollar menu. It's a you know, five dollars
or whatever. And you go out to dinner. You used
to be able to go out twenty five thirty bucks.
Now it's at least one hundred dollars. So I can
(01:31:13):
see where this seems very expensive. But in the same breath,
it's going up, just like everything else, and we want
to watch, we want to watch these players get paid. Well,
they somehow got to get find the money to pay
these players too, when they got to make up some
of that money, you know, So is it out of line?
I mean it's it's supply and demand. Yeah, supplies. You know,
(01:31:37):
if the demand is there, they're gonna get it. If
the demand's not there, they're not going to get that
kind of money. But people can choose, you know, And
like I said, you're going to remember the events and
the places you went. You're not going to remember what
phone you had if you had I phone twelve, thirteen,
fourteen or whatever. You know, So go it is. Maybe
(01:31:58):
it's a little expensive, Go spend the money a little bit,
go to these things, go have go make memories.
Speaker 1 (01:32:05):
I mean your last words make the most sense. Make memories.
That's good. So I'm glad you had a pretty interesting
opinion on this. Me personally, unless I'm covering the game,
I'm not going anyways. That's just But again, I've been
in the business a long time, so I know.
Speaker 3 (01:32:20):
I'll do it be a great game, that it would
be a great game.
Speaker 1 (01:32:23):
To cover, Yeah you would, Yeah, I did. Marquee Mad
wet's see if but I'm not going. I'll be happy
to watch it on TV as well. We have our
own big game on Sunday night, Miami Hurricanes against Notre
Dame fighting Irish. Figure pretty interesting game, so I'll take
that Miami Notre Dame game along, but I have no
problem watching our game as well, the Ohio State game.
Speaker 3 (01:32:47):
Let's see what the price is for that one is no, no,
let's not.
Speaker 1 (01:32:51):
Let's go to some NFL.
Speaker 3 (01:32:52):
I mean you can, but oh yeah, oh right, oh yeah,
well half the price.
Speaker 1 (01:32:58):
What for the Miami Notre Dame.
Speaker 3 (01:33:01):
Yeah, you can get in like two hundred Okay, still
still not cheap. You know, you still got to pay
a decent amount.
Speaker 1 (01:33:09):
But well I can I get it. I can get
in for way less than that. So yes, and that's
all I'm concerned about, Okay. So looking forward to get
back to hard rock so that my Canes can do
some hard rocking against the Irish. And for whatever it's worth,
that Notre Dame is owen six all time against Miami
Hurricanes down there, oh and three at the Orange Hole,
(01:33:31):
owing three at hard rock. Take that for whatever it's for.
Be looking forward to seeing Carson back first time out.
So all right, final topic of the night's more of
an update. Thank Christian. You know I don't get your
own football show. Let you promote that a little bit.
But let's go over some NFL updates. But once I
have in front of me number one of the Fifthburgh
Steelers released Robert Woods one less time. I mean, I'm
(01:33:54):
sure they'll bring in another target for in that period
where where we have a lot more additions some cred.
The Bengals release quarterback Devon River. Carolina released former Kain's
wide receiver to Coolbe George. No Orleans Saints release running
back Cam Akers. The Cleveland Browns quarterback room consists of
(01:34:18):
Joe Flack, O'dillon Gabriel and now Sir Door Sanders. The
Charges released of dj Ugule, who played for Florida State
and declared for the draft after finishing his senior citizen
senior citizen, no, not senior citizens. They had a little
tongue tied there, that's probably what I am. But he
(01:34:39):
had ten and eighty five passing yard for TD sixth interceptions,
and he had a season ended early due to sergery
and is right throwing hands. So that's what you HAVELL
being I'm glad that Trey Lance actually made that team,
I really really am. And he thoughts Chris on any
of these transactions about who of this people could be
going coming and going not.
Speaker 3 (01:34:59):
Real Uh, you know, a lot of these guys are
you know, either unproving or guys that are coming back
from injuries and probably not fully back. Like cam Aker
is really good when he's healthy, but we know he's
missed a lot of games over the last couple of years,
so he may not look that great right now. Maybe
later on in the season somebody might pick him up,
(01:35:20):
you know, like he might get a little healthier. Robert
Woods is probably at the end of his career, so
he's kind of you know, I think he was on
Tennessee the last year or so, so he's probably at
the at the end of his career. The one I
kind of find a little bit amusing is the Browns
quarterback situation. Right you got Joe Flacco and now he's
got a babysit two rookies behind him, right, So I
(01:35:42):
think that's kind of funny. You know, he's he's basically
babysitting guys that are like, what half his age more
or less, So I'm surprised that they traded Kenny Pickett,
you know, because now they got no veteran behind Flacco.
Now you going full in with Flacco at forty years old,
(01:36:03):
and you got two rookies who you know, Let's be
honest there, one's a what a fourth fourth round pick?
The other guy's a fifth or five and a six
whatever it was. So, and they weren't that impressive in camp.
So that's kind of risky. Kind of risky are they
Are they showing you that they're punting the season by
doing this? I don't know. It just seems kind of
(01:36:24):
weird that they do.
Speaker 1 (01:36:25):
No, I don't think so, And I'll tell you why,
because number one, can't you pick it was hurt throughout
any camp. Yeah, you could go ahead and get a
fifth round pick for him, and it's not cloud draft
choice that should do it when you have a surplus
at quarterback. So I actually think the move was pretty good.
Can you pick? It'll be behind Geno Smith out in Vegas.
I actually think it's not a bad move for Cleveland. Yeah. Well,
anytime you have Chris, you have a surplus at a
(01:36:47):
certain position, you'll have an extra one. You see how
the whole thing plays out, and that's exactly what Cleveland dead.
You know, sure Joe Flacco is not the long term answer,
but they must have saw nothing Dylan Gabriel to have
him was a second Yeah, I guess so to me.
And doors Standers is a work in progress. I'll see
how that one plays out. But now instead of being
(01:37:09):
fourth under depth shirt, he's third. So that's an interesting situation.
Speaker 4 (01:37:13):
Go ahead, and they got something for Picket, like I
don't know if they've gotten anything from for the other two.
So you've got to go with you know, if they're
all relatively around the same, you know, as far as
accuracy and fitting in and all that, then why wouldn't
you keep your rookies so you can maybe develop them
because those might be your future and the one that
(01:37:35):
you could get the most for now. Trade trade and
get what you can now.
Speaker 1 (01:37:41):
Yeah, and since I do.
Speaker 3 (01:37:43):
But the one thing that the only part that I
would disagree a little bit is going all in with Flacco,
right because Flacco is forty, right, I think he's forty
years old. He is forty, he'll be forty one, all
right by the end of the year. But is the
thing he has not played a full seat in since
twenty seventeen. That was the last time he played a
(01:38:03):
full season. So now you're asking a guy who's forty
years old or thirty nine, whatever it is, to basically
play a full season or else you're gonna have a
rookie in there playing quarterback. So I wasn't expecting them
to be that good anyway this year, especially in that division.
You know you got you know, obviously got Baltimore, Cincinnati,
and Pittsburgh ahead of you. I don't see them being
(01:38:26):
any better than any of those three teams, no matter
who they got quarterbacking.
Speaker 1 (01:38:29):
So you're right, Chris, will be really interesting to see
how it all plays out. Yeah, but you had an
injured Kenny Pickett, and as Candy said, if you could
get something for him about for in a row right position,
you do it. That's not to say they're not going
to pick up another quarterback somewhere along the line of
I mean that their fairy team to do that right now.
This is currently what they have in their pocket. And
(01:38:50):
they must have thought enough of Dylan Gabriel to make
him number two, knowing that maybe he could be a
hidden gym. You never know. Hilan Gabriels can't. I'm not
sure about young and Gabriel did some pretty good work
up in the Pacific Northwest. I think it's interesting. I
hope to colby George Land somewhere. But a lot of
(01:39:11):
these younger players, the thing is is evil with some
of the thousand guys that got released. Keep in mind
the United Football League, we'll have their draft sometime and
I believe September, and you have the UFL and you
also have the CFL. So some of you guys can
land jobs to put them up like they didn't have
(01:39:32):
these other leagues you've always had. Canada with the UFL
is an up and coming league, although we won't talk
about that tonight. But no good points for Chris. What
I want you to do right now is I want
you to do something we've done before and talk about
your football you show. I think you have a football
show right so now you have an opportunity to go
ahead and promote that a little bit.
Speaker 2 (01:39:49):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:39:50):
Well, I do co host a podcast with my friend Charman.
We do the Lift Off Jets talk about the Jets
in the NFL. But we did start a a football
show myself, Rob and uh friend TVK who helped you
out with a with a logo, sensual logo, which was
pretty cool. Listen, Aime, you need a logo, that's the
(01:40:11):
guy to talk to if you want to upgrade your logos,
your videos and stuff like that. He's the guy to
check out for sure. But anyway, but yeah, our show
is gonna be on once a week, probably Tuesdays, just
talking about football every week. You know, we're gonna probably
preview each week the games, stuff like that. We're gonna
do picks, you know. We we've done to two shows
so far, just me and TVK Rob.
Speaker 2 (01:40:33):
You know.
Speaker 3 (01:40:33):
Because of the back, he's you know, out a couple
of weeks, so hopefully we'll see him in a couple
of weeks. But but yeah, I'm looking forward to It's
called U Flight Club Football. You know, check us out.
We'll be on YouTube.
Speaker 1 (01:40:46):
Yeah, tell him he's welcome to come on our show
any time you want, especially on Wednesday night. TVK I.
I thought the logo was pretty cool. Actually, I.
Speaker 3 (01:40:56):
Said, you need it ready on your on the on
your hat. That would have been beat. Yeah no, that
really I'm sorry, not ready.
Speaker 1 (01:41:02):

a permanent part of this show. And watching you and
Jacob Chris interact with you guys that it was really
fun to watch. So I like to see you may
have less people, but the chemistry is really really good
(01:47:56):
amongst the group. And I always like to try different
situations like a hockey coach of the lines. And I
thought we did well with the four of us tonight.
