Speaker 1 (00:24):
Gooding me everybody, and welcome to another attention of the
sportsune change my loud, loud, I don't know. I had
a great Motor City Man my show. What the own
and only time? Shine, I have had a great show
for a couple of his books, and you are back
at it time. You'll be a future guests on this show.
Here tonight you want, let's bring back the old Wednesday group.
Jacob Christner wasn't on last week, but better than ever tonight.
(00:46):
Welcome back.
Speaker 2 (00:47):
It feels it feels good and back and fresh and
life is kind of life is kind of moving the
same way again.
Speaker 1 (00:54):
Beautiful. All right, Chris my favorite piazza or a pizza
you call him. I'm yeah, glad to have back on
the Wednesday Show. His facial expressions when I get through
the non sports topics or are those for the ages
and look at him, he's a disctchis one of my
and I, oh my gosh, I don't get nothing like
(01:16):
this on my show on my network. Of course you're not, chrisy.
They don't get nothing like this on your network.
Speaker 3 (01:21):
As long as George and Jacob and Candy are here,
I'm good.
Speaker 1 (01:24):
Good. Did you just see me from losing a voyage.
I got George and Candy your ear. Thanks for making
those introductions there. They are brought to you by Chris Pizza.
All Right, With that said, let's get to We're gonna
go some easy ones tonight, though, as we lead it off,
and we'll lead it off with a baseball topic. Once
upon a time, the LA Dodgers were seven and oh
(01:44):
but guess what? Okay, not how master to start? That's
where you're at now. The defending champs are currently eighty
four up, sixty seven down. What are your thoughts, George
about whether the Dodgers have what it takes to finish
the job.
Speaker 4 (02:01):
Well, I'm never going to count them out. Obviously, they're
defending world champions, and we've talked many times about the injuries.
But yeah, it's been quite an interesting season and it
certainly has not been what most Dodger fans expected. You know,
you write those big checks and you're expecting win after
win after win. Well, it doesn't come that easy. There
are a lot of hungry teams out there, both leagues.
(02:24):
But to answer your question, yeah, Scott, I think Dodgers
are going to be still very dangerous in the postseason,
but they're not going to do it from a superiority,
if you will, of finishing with the best record in
the NL. We all know Candy's team is going to
be that. So all this being said, Dodgers they got
a shot. Still not as good as they did with
(02:44):
like you said, Scott when they started seven or zero, Katie,
you know right.
Speaker 5 (02:50):
Now they're in. If we ended the season today, the
Dodgers would be in. I mean, any team that gets
hot now is gonna is gonna be the team to
be like. And it could be any one of us
and it and it could All it could take is
one injury that would you know, a predominant injury that
might hurt one of the teams. Obviously, you don't want
(03:12):
any injuries, especially in your pitching going into this time
of year because that's what really is gonna could make
a lot of difference, you know. I Pat Murphy recently
was talking and he said one word to describe his
team right now, and that's competitive. They're competing no matter what,
(03:35):
and that they have that competitive edge about them. They're
not the highest payroll, they're not the flashiest names, but
they're all they're in and they're competing, and that's what's
important this time of year.
Speaker 2 (03:48):
Jacob that I can just imagine the Bears pressers when
they they're like, oh and seven, they'll start saying competitive also,
but oh ridiculous. But really overall, the Dodgers, yes, they
can just because they they have that experience and you
can get hot at any time. But one of the
issues I have with it is the fact that you're
(04:10):
bringing up fans. Fans have this thought process because you
make money that you can't be human. These the Phillies
are exceptionally hot. They can easily do it, And the
biggest thing about it is the fact you are a target.
When you're a World Series champion. It is exceptionally tough
to repeat and really, by itself is like down, here's
(04:31):
the deal. This is where I get irritated with fans
In about eight to ten years are going to say,
oh my god, we made eight years of World Series
four World Series doing that was wonderful. Right now they're like,
we're dead, you know, they're that and it's a pain
in the butt to watch. It's like, but that's just
(04:52):
realty are They're a target? So yeah, they can get
hot and they can be able to do that kind
of stuff. But the injuries come. And then here's another thing.
They don't have a bullpen, so they're going to have
to hit a lot. So we're just gonna have to see.
And as far as Milwaukee, here's the thing about Milwaukee, Candy,
and I got to say this part. They miss a
(05:12):
lot of first rounders. They miss a lot in the
first round. The thing about it is to think that,
mind you, they want to win the World Series. Don't
get that wrong. But all Pat Murphy has to do
is win a series and he will get a and
he absolutely positivity, and he'll get great and everybody will
love me. He'll get extensions, he'll get everything because he
finally did what so many did not. So he really
(05:36):
he's playing with house money. He just needs to win one.
As far as the Cubs, it's been too weird of
the year, I don't know.
Speaker 1 (05:46):
Okay, Chris, Listen.
Speaker 3 (05:48):
The Dodgers are the defending champs. Obviously that's number one,
number two, so they got the pedigree, so I think
offensively they're going to be fine. Jacob brought up the bullpen. Absolutely,
that's been their shaky point this year because their rotation
is healthy now now you've got Yama motto, you got Snell,
and you got Glass now right, one, two, and three,
(06:11):
and you could throw in Kershore as your number four starter.
That's pretty good and he's been pretty solid coming back
this year. So they're definitely gonna be a problem in
the playoffs with that starting rotation. Right now, they're lined
up to play the Mets, i think in the first
round in the wildcard round in LA, so anything could happen,
(06:32):
obviously in a three game series. So but the Mets
aren't playing that good, so you would think the Dodgers
are going to move forward at least out of the
wildcard round and then who knows what's gonna happen in
the in the in the divisional round. But with with
those horses in the rotation, I mean, they could they
could line they could match up against any team in
the league, and we'll see if they're bullpened, settles down
(06:57):
and just you know, plays or itches up to their
potential that they're going to be back in the World Series.
Speaker 6 (07:03):
But we'll see what happens.
Speaker 1 (07:05):
Part of the reason they had that seven th started
they got a three game sweep with the Tigers at
the beginning to begin with, but after that particular point, Yeah,
give us that. Look, George, it doesn't have it. It was
just a three game sweep at the beginning and not
the end. But in the end, the reality is the
Dodgers know that on one hundred and sixty two game
season is one hundred and sixty two game season. We
all know that one thing about baseball play the other
(07:27):
other sports is marathon, not a sprint. We'll leave it
at that. Lots of other topics I want to get to.
I wanted to lead off with that. We're gonna be
bouncing around a lot of different sports tonight as well
as a lot of different things, So stay with us.
The NBA is returning to NBC in eleven year deal
that'll have Michael Jordan on the broadcast and Carmelo Anthony,
(07:47):
Reggie Miller, Mike Turco, and No Eagle among those joining
the NBC universal as Paul. So, George, what are your
thoughts about this group that they have.
Speaker 4 (07:58):
I'm very pleased. I really might think that NBC obviously
had an unbelievable run with the NBA back in the day,
and of course Marv Albert and others were involved back then,
but Mike Turco is so solid. I mean, Mike can
do any sport we've we've seen that as well as
anchoring sports. Noah Eagle has been around several years now.
(08:19):
I'm very impressed with his work. I think he's going
to do fine. And a lot of the other other
commentators and play by play guys that they're releasing names
of soon. But the thing is is that you know
they're gonna go and they're gonna show primetime games in
the regular season. Okay, ABC did that too, I know that,
(08:42):
but NBC is going to get a big boost on
that because NBC hosts the Olympics. Also, the NBC's got
the NFL Sunday Night package, as we know, and you know,
I think it's going to be a really great opportunity
for ENBC to get back into the pro basketball game.
I'm looking forward to it.
Speaker 7 (08:59):
Scott Kenny, you know, you put you threw out some
pretty big names that played the game that are going
to be on the broadcast.
Speaker 5 (09:11):
I like some of them. I like when you have
former players because they give insights that if you didn't
play the game or that you might not really know
or realize. So that's that's good. But I don't know
that I know them as broadcasters to know if they're
good enough that I would sit and listen to them broadcasts.
(09:34):
There are there are some former players that I would
rather turn the radio version on on some of the
other sports that and I'm not going to even go
into what sports I don't like certain announcers for. But
kudos to them for, you know, for NBC getting them,
because I mean, those are some pretty big names that
(09:56):
will help them with their viewership just by name.
Speaker 2 (10:02):
Jacob Don John has to retire now. But but no,
the big thing about it, this is what I would
like to see people they remember the music, remember the games,
remember all this stuff. There's a new generation that can
watch all of these, you know these games now they
(10:24):
have their favorites. And we got the last year of
Lebron and I don't think any of us gonna miss
him on here, but still they will. But the but see,
this is the thing I would love to see NBC
for their first one do a package, just like to
try to get everybody again anticipation between NBA and CBS
(10:44):
and NBA and NBC. The packages, you know, they're the
slow packages and the slow Burn. I think that's something
that really needs to come back a little bit. Get
the heart racing, you know, get all that kind of
stuff like that. It's like they're afraid to do those
packages that we're gonna lose people. But there's more people
in this generation that would really enjoy that to get
(11:05):
to that moment, because right now NBA is pretty boring.
It needs something to really get an anticipation.
Speaker 6 (11:14):
Chris, Yeah, I'm with Jacob.
Speaker 3 (11:16):
I really haven't followed the NBA in probably over twenty years,
and I used to love the NBA. The last time
I probably watched it was when they were on NBC,
And hopefully NBC can bring back some of those fans
that that kind of left over the over these last
few years.
Speaker 6 (11:32):
You know that it's because it's gotten boring and there's
no yet.
Speaker 3 (11:37):
Obviously everybody knows Lebron, but after that, if you're a
casual fan, there's no more big time superstar that you're
watching the NBA for, Like back in the day, you
know when Jordan was around yet, Jordan Bird, Pippin' Magic,
Uh yeah, all these.
Speaker 4 (11:54):
Superstars if you watch, say again, so don't forget Isaiah Thomas. Yeah, yeah,
that guy do.
Speaker 6 (12:02):
But yeah, no, he was a star. Yeah, no, early nineties.
Speaker 3 (12:06):
Yeah and actually, uh, the Microwave actually went to my.
Speaker 6 (12:11):
High school, so awesome. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (12:14):
But anyway, Yeah, so I think that I think the
NBA has gotten really boring lately and and there, and
I think a part of it is that.
Speaker 6 (12:21):
They don't have that one superstar that people you know,
can watch all the time. You know, I know.
Speaker 3 (12:27):
Lebron, everybody knows Lebron. But Lebron is at the end
of his career, right, He's got what another year maybe
two years at best, So I think they got to
get another guy that's going to be the face of
the NBA, so people will tune in every whatever they're
gonna do.
Speaker 1 (12:43):
You know. Now, I was waiting for George IIICRN to
get that Isaiah Thomas. That's why I wrote this his
hand really certainly, really he's not on there. You he's
not part of NBC. Yeah, to open your mouth, Jordan, right,
there's no way he's you know, Sidne. The elevens do go
(13:04):
through computers. I don't know how, but when I in
fat one, I'll make sure it has your direction. You
the man really certainly, really don't worry Christ's intended for him.
You know what I done to the toilet load management.
Speaker 2 (13:18):
Load. You're taking my jokes now, yeah, Jacob, Jacob's feeding
them the jokes right now.
Speaker 1 (13:28):
Yeah, right. And you know what, you don't have to
stand for that on that hat called ducks, not just
tigers because you even mentioned him in there. You check
them in management.
Speaker 2 (13:39):
But I do have one thing here too that when
the first NBA and NBC happened, they had Bird, Magic
and Michael for one of the years, and Bird and
Michael for two. You know, I mean to be able
to and they would put him on every week and
that that brings the that brought the ratings. Yeah, there's
only gonna be one more Lebron in the middle. There's
(14:01):
not the same amount that gets that. And they need
to start learning how to build stars and build anticipation
and be able to do all this. It's like Bird
and like I said, Bird and Magic first, and then
Bird and Burd and Mike, Bird Magic and Michael first,
and then Burd and Michaels. This is the second and Bird.
One of the greatest games I ever saw in the
NBA NBC was Bird and Michael thirty I mean one
(14:24):
had one and thirty eight one had thirty four. It
was in Boston one, you know, and it was in
the garden and like I said, you don't have as
I said, and you wanted. That game is on YouTube
by the way. It's an amazing game. But that's the
big thing is like, Okay, people know Lebron no, but
it's like, what else is there? And you have an
eleven year contract. You need to build stars, and anticipation
(14:50):
builds stars, and all these TV producers are too darn
afraid to try to build an anticipation for something. And
you've got to realize, yeah, you're gonna you're not gonna
buld a build for the fifteen year old. But there's
US forty seven, forty five, fifty forty two, forty three
year olds to remember all this that will still watch.
Speaker 1 (15:08):
Yeah, but you know what, you got a bill stars.
But guess what the stars have to play people. They
have to play load management. You ever head of that?
I remember watching those wiz commer ring around the call
or ringing around the collar. Now that's the only thing
you're gonna get out of the singing. It's on to me, tonay. Ever,
and George ought to know, it's called blue collar, blue collar,
And if you don't have ring around the collar and
(15:30):
you're wearing a white shirt, it's called white collar. Get
the message. Show up, NBA guys, otherwise nobody will frankly care. Anyways. Oh,
I'm just getting warmed up tonight, So let's go ahead
and stay on the broadcasting name. There'll be a lot
of that tonight. We're going to New York people New
York and LB talk about. Yeah, we'll do that on
Friday night when I mix it up with a New
(15:50):
York City loud mouth of the Motor City madmouth that's
on the center same tonight, and Michael King reveals plans
and he's gonna cut back on Yankee games. He's sixty
four years of age. All right, Chris, are your thought
about Michael Kaye designing to cut back a little bit?
Speaker 6 (16:05):
I'm not happy about it.
Speaker 3 (16:06):
I mean, Michael Kaye has been the voice of the
Yankees now for over twenty years, actually going back to
his radio.
Speaker 6 (16:12):
Days even further.
Speaker 3 (16:13):
But but yeah, I'm not happy about it because I
would think Ryan Ruco is going to be the guy
that's going to replace him.
Speaker 6 (16:21):
I'm not really a fan of him. To be honest.
Speaker 3 (16:23):
For baseball, he does a lot of basketball, but yeah,
I'm not really happy about it. Hopefully he doesn't do
that too soon, because I'll tell you with him, him
and Girardi that they're doing the series now again with
the twins.
Speaker 6 (16:39):
They are so great together. Girardi is awesome.
Speaker 3 (16:42):
And then when Cone, when David Cohne joins the booth,
he's awesome. But yeah, if Michael Kay is starting to
lessen the games, I know we cut down his radio
show two already his past year. He's only down to
a two hour show one to three. He does a
a low show now. But yeah, not gonna be a
(17:03):
good day. Hopefully they find someone else.
Speaker 1 (17:05):
I can't eve the chat room acknowledge old people since
all the people in there are being very very good tonight.
What's going on? Joshua Doors are now pays work prompt.
I don't know about that, but I'm not gonna complain
about a race at all. Thanks about josh Door for
popping in the night, Jacob. When you're talking about Michael
k backing off, let me tell you this one of
(17:28):
the I think we hear one of the things like
for ends. Let's give an example Chris Foller the other
night and Monday night foot right. It's like that gives
you an example. They're getting older. They work like crazy,
they go on these red eye flights, they do all
I said, They go on like a mad dog.
Speaker 2 (17:42):
They're getting older, like I said, getting older, and their
their throats are not going to be the same. It's
like you ever see, here's the deal. You see them
with a cup of it looks like a coffee cup
at all times. Now that's tea. Now you know they're
able to drink tea because they're talking all the time.
They're having to do everything to protect themselves so darn much.
I mean, everybody does that. It talks multiple hours and
(18:05):
they're having to do this and plus the in fact,
you know, if they're on a airplane all the time
they're doing red eyes, they're gonna have colds. They're not
feeling good.
Speaker 4 (18:12):
Yep.
Speaker 1 (18:13):
And it's like, this is the thing.
Speaker 2 (18:16):
This isn't a hairy carry deal where he was eighty
five years old then he just like collapsed in the
offseason and died. This ain't that situation. It's like, this
isn't that situation where you know people are looking after
their health a lot more. Right, they're looking after their
health a lot more. And they're not gonna go to
Vin Scully. That's the thing that's gonna be the unfortunate
for all of us. We're not gonna have the Harry carry,
(18:39):
Vin Scully, Jack Buck, you know, Ernie Harwell, we're not
gonna have them anymore because they're not going to go
that long.
Speaker 6 (18:46):
It's a lot of get paid a lot more money too, right.
Speaker 2 (18:49):
Yeah, they can pay up more.
Speaker 1 (18:50):
Way, they don't.
Speaker 2 (18:50):
They're not going to go that long. There's not It's
like it's like golfers. It's like I saw. I'm just
gonna give us an example. They were talking about the
top three main cut of all time and it's on
Nicholas Michelson named the player. You're not going to see
forty five years out of these guys anymore. You're not
gonna see these records gonna stake and you're gonna see it.
You're not gonna see that of that and the announcers.
(19:11):
You're not gonna see that in anywhere. Because they make
so much money, they're not gonna win themselves out. That's
probably a good thing.
Speaker 6 (19:17):
And also just to d Michael Kay has two young
two young children too. That's that's probably another reason why
he's cutting back.
Speaker 2 (19:25):
I come from a fifty was fifty when I was born,
so I come from that.
Speaker 1 (19:28):
So I respect that. So you know, well, I'm taking
I've gotten to meet Michael Kay a few times. I've
never met a more classier person than he is. Taking
a few pictures of a nice guy. Yeah, I think
family has everything to do with lying back and off.
I flought him for doing it. We've always talked about
family first. Let me tell you, Michael Kay prescribes to that.
I met him one of the classiest people I've ever met.
Candy go ahead, great, great comment by both. I can't
(19:51):
wait to hear the other two. And great stuff in
the chat room from Cyberusky and Josh or keep it up.
Speaker 5 (19:57):
Michael Kay is an Emmy Award winning Yankee play by
play announcer for the Yes Network who also hosts the
network's Center Stage series and its various programming specials. The
twenty twenty five season will be his thirty fourth year
broadcasting Yankees baseball. The first ten years were on radio,
(20:18):
the latter twenty four are on YES. He was part
of the Yes Yankees team that won a twenty twenty
four New York Emmy Award for its season long coverage,
a twenty twenty three Emmy Award for its pregame shows.
He's won Kay has actually won all kinds of Emmys himself.
He is actually in New York's. In November of twenty sixteen,
(20:43):
he was inducted into the New York State Baseball Hall
of Fame. He was inducted into the New York State
Broadcasters Association Hall of Fame. He's also was awarded the
Lugarig Sports Award by the Greater New York Chapter of
the alsuciation. He's received the Vincecully Award for Excellence in
(21:04):
Sports Broadcasting. So he's obviously had a great career in broadcasting. Jacob,
like you alluded to the people, the time for people,
the for people to have one career for a long time.
The I'm just gonna put out there the Bob Youkers
of the world, where he did fifty years like that
(21:25):
is that's you're not gonna see that anymore. That's just
that was a great career. It was awesome. But people
do burn out, and I think one of the things
that we don't that most of the general public don't
realize how much research these broadcasters have to do before game,
(21:49):
before and after the game, and then they go to
the game. It's not just going to the game.
Speaker 8 (21:54):
They're there hours before, they're there, hours after they're they're
on days off, have to do interviews with the players
and talk with the players so they get to know them,
so they have the stories to talk about during the
broadcast and stuff like that.
Speaker 5 (22:09):
It's a very time consuming and very demanding job. So
kudos to him for the career that he's already had,
and kudos for him to be able to step back
a little bit and say, you know what, I also
want to have time for my family and my health
and that's important to me too.
Speaker 2 (22:26):
Well, you got me say this too. Let me say
this too, Big Candy with the amount of money that's
around there, and in one case, I'm so happy everybody's
be able to get that kind of money. I would
love to be able to get paid like that. Chris would,
We all would, Candy Wood, then Scott would, I mean
George Definitely, I'm saying we all would love to be
able to get that. It's but the biggest thing about
(22:47):
it is there was one thing about the old time.
When it comes to the announcers, it was like they
didn't get paid all that money. They had to do
all that work, but there was when you don't have
that and stuff like that, you know, it's not there.
There's a joy too. There's a certain level of pressure
when you have that kind of money now that you
have to it's almost like they have to perform all
the time. Here, I'm just saying this being truthful. Harry
(23:09):
Cary couldn't go get drunk like that making millions.
Speaker 1 (23:12):
He couldn't do it like that. He could not.
Speaker 2 (23:14):
They wouldn't allow it. There's an insurance on something like that.
Bob Yucker couldn't be off the cuff, being like he
was off those years and stuff like that. It's like
it's all the things. It's like John Madden if he
I mean, John madd got millions in his own way,
but it wouldn't be from a CBS. He couldn't have
done that kind of thing and boom bang.
Speaker 1 (23:34):
You know.
Speaker 2 (23:34):
It's like the money now makes it kind of robotic
where they have an expectation that you're going to do
things their way instead, and it's like it was more
fun to be able to listen to Harry just go
off the beating off the cuff, and anybody says you're
out of line, I don't care. Meanwhile, the ratings are ridiculous.
It's but it's like there's those type of things. But
(23:57):
another reason. But see, there was forty five fifty years,
like you were saying with Yuker and all that kind
of stuff, there was those There's just a joy to
doing it, even if you had to work because they
aren't ad the money for it. It's just plus the
fact that if you get drunk all the time, there'sude.
But the thing is, though as we grew up, there
(24:17):
was that joy to listen to. It's like it's like
a guy at the bar or your family member just
to be able to get to that. It's money doesn't
and I love I want the money too, but it
doesn't make the same deal. So you're not going to
see them around that long.
Speaker 1 (24:32):
Great stuff for both of you, guys. I enjoy watching
the dialogue between. It means that my voice figures will
make it to the whole thing. Yeah, without a doubt.
So all right, George, I know you're gonna mention Ermie
and her will reference and get it over with, well,
Michael K. So first and see if we could graduate there.
Speaker 4 (24:49):
It doesn't surprise me because on July third, twenty nineteen,
he had to undergo vocal cord surgery, keeping him out
of the broadcast booth from July to late August that
season nineteen, and the final broadcast of the Michael K.
Shaw was already done. That was on December thirteenth and
twenty twenty four. And the other thing, of course, which
(25:11):
is already mentioned earlier. He's got a daughter who's uh
a twelve and a son who's eleven years old. So yeah,
these guys aren't getting burned out. I mean they are.
It's a very tough lifestyle. There still are some that
do it and are able to do it multiple sports.
Speaker 8 (25:28):
You know.
Speaker 4 (25:28):
It's difficult, it really is. Michael's done a nice job.
I don't know much about him. I've never met him,
but I do admire his work.
Speaker 1 (25:35):
Yeah I have. He's one of the nicest people I've
ever met at New York MLB. Talking assume here it's
rob He's booth second best and based on New York.
Say what you want, but I'm telling you they're just
a great booth. All the way around. I think somebody
on this panel will disagree with you, and again, you
know there's a little bit of partiality across the Burroughs.
We'll leave it at that.
Speaker 2 (25:52):
Yeah, I don't have to do with Frank the Tank,
so there's that there.
Speaker 1 (25:56):
I'll leave it that we defend each other in this
there on the show. You have the right to defend
your mets broadcast on Monday Night. But meanwhile, we have
a great show tomorrow night. I should point out a
legendary sportswriter, Bearing Bloom will be on their Broadcastrow night,
planning to get him out at eight o'clock in Eastern
time to MotorCity and Mad Mouse Show. Let's continue the theme,
all right. I never thought i'd bring this topic up,
(26:19):
but I have no choice. But this is fun. That's
why it's on here. Michelle Palma compared program used to
be in programming to Real Housewives. How do you like
that one? Real house lives people? If I watch ESPN
for an hour, it's like watching Real Housewives in Atlanta.
It's the same drama. They're willing because they're yelling at
(26:40):
each other and they don't get along. Steven A. Smith
would be a great Real Housewife and Michelle Obama, says
his son the Matt Rogels, on watching ESPN via I'm
a podcast. You know what, I think it's pretty interesting
to compare USPN programming the Real house Lives. That's why
I brought it on here because this is a really
(27:03):
different show. All Right, Ni cor We've been in the
business for a long time. What are your thoughts about
Michelle Obama comparing the esp to the Real Health Lives.
I know Josh o'door and Cibruski are somewhere out there
in La La Land listening. This is different, a little
bit used to what they're used to do with Real Housewives.
When to talk about these real two guys anyways, forget
(27:23):
about them, keep you focus on the topic Real Housewives. George,
what are your talking about Michelle's observation?
Speaker 4 (27:29):
Well, I in select, you know, different times of the day. Yeah,
I mean she could say that there is bickering that
goes on. We all know that there's arguing. Whenever you're
taking your stance in sports or news, whatever area you're
doing it in, you aren't going to have a lot
of back and forth. And they do have some bollatile
personalities over there, including Steven A. So I mean, you know,
(27:52):
I could see a little bit of advanced is it
all day long? I don't. I don't think so. I mean,
you know, they've got their other programs or other shows,
a little bit of bickering during live of play by play,
but I don't think that's what she's obviously not talking
about that she's going with the anchor and the commentary shows.
I could see a little bit of it, but it's
(28:13):
far different from what we see with the Real Housewives theeries.
Speaker 1 (28:18):
I'll be honest with you, the one of the reasons
I turned off ESPN because I got sick and tired
of all the bickering, and when you're dealing with Alzheimer's
disease like I am, I don't need the actually yelling.
Candy will be the first to tell you that the
more yelling it is, the more it sets off my
brain headache. So you know, I'm not talking politics, I'll
talk about Alzheimer's. I'm talking about yelling as when I'm
talking about drama. That's the reason I don't watch it anymore,
(28:40):
because I'm sick and tired of it, to be honest
with you, yelling and drama is one thing. Give it
to me straight, give me the facts, and let's not
get too out of control with the volume because if
you get out of control the volume. I don't need
any more medication than them on right now. My wife
has to go out there and go to the pharmacy
nine million times a week. Anyway, a real house I
(29:01):
see her A woman's point, I really do, Candy, go ahead.
Speaker 5 (29:07):
There's a lot of different ways we could.
Speaker 1 (29:09):
Go with it exactly. That's why you're second. You don't
need status. It's all opinion.
Speaker 5 (29:15):
First of all, Michelle Obama, yes she is a housewife,
but is she a real housewife? Like, let's face it,
she's been in the spotlight. She's been in she was
the first light. She's not your normal typical housewife. So
for her to be making some of these comments and
she's she was never into sports that I know of,
(29:37):
was she?
Speaker 1 (29:38):
And I could be wrong, but maybe basketball?
Speaker 5 (29:44):
And I will say that stephen A. ESPN has stephen
A on there because he is a personality. His personality.
Part of it is the allure is the fact that
he can be very vul That's what they pay him for.
That's part of that's part of who he is. That's
(30:04):
part of what attracts people to watch him, whether you
like it or not. That's what people are attracted to
and watching him and want to watch him. He's very knowledgeable.
But Michelle, you know I would I wouldn't start commenting
about ESPN unless you've really watched it a lot and
(30:27):
watched a lot of sports, because yes, is it. Are
people opinionated our real house housewives opinion? Yes, but they're
opinionated about different things.
Speaker 1 (30:36):
Well. The only reason I mentioned Michelle Obama basketball is
I know President Obama used to like to play the
game a lot and has a record for playing it,
and it's highs. That's the reason I brought it up.
But all right, Jacob, I figured this one right up
your alley.
Speaker 2 (30:52):
Yeah, yeah, she's partially right on something like that. But
I haven't heard that she liked sports.
Speaker 1 (30:56):
I don't know. She may have.
Speaker 2 (30:58):
But here's the thing. If she's seen it on team
has no question Barack was watching it and she will
walk by. But but the but the biggest thing about
something like this is what made it. That is what
just think of it this way. Rich eisend last month,
rich Eisen in that seat and there's an empty seat
where Stuart Scott was supposed to be got humongous ratings.
Speaker 1 (31:19):
Huge.
Speaker 2 (31:21):
People are tired of the screaming and hollering again. They
annoy they really are. They do want to just that show.
They do want to see that sports. They did it
for one night, but people want to just see that
that was everybody's morning. You know, you're sitting there because
there's no phones and they're looking at the cereal box
and then they're listening to the sports. And it's like,
(31:43):
I personally don't want to go on an ESPN and
do it stuff. It isn't that I don't like arguing.
I want to argue my opinion all the time. I
get that in shows like this. I get that when
I'm invited on places, I get that idea ESPN has
producers saying which area that I mean, which site need
to be on for this time whatsoever. You sound stupid.
(32:06):
Sometimes you're gonna sound stupid. Sometimes you're gonna sound I
don't want to be scripted. And that's the whole thing.
They do it just for the fifteen minutes the quarter hour,
and it's like that's wrong by itself, and people can
tell and they can see right through it. But everything
is a show to them, Okay, Chris.
Speaker 3 (32:26):
Yeah, I'm not into the yelling shows either, so I
kind of skipped those. I like good discussion shows. I
used to love watching sports reporters. I thought that was
one of the better ones.
Speaker 1 (32:37):
And you know what, Chris, what we're gonna do, by
the way, is I'm glad you brought that up. So
let me also mention I'm doing this is the first
of a series of a bunch of media type of shows,
and the sports reporters will be brought in. But I'm
glad you brought it up. Thanks a lot for reminding me, Chris,
to do something I was prepared to do. So thanks
a lot. That was definitely one of my favorites. But
continue along, good stuff, Chris, Okay.
Speaker 3 (32:57):
Yeah, no, that's the type of show I like, you know,
like intelligent conversations, not people just yelling at each other.
Speaker 6 (33:03):
Yes, stephen a is he is smart. You know, he
is an intelligent guy.
Speaker 3 (33:07):
But unfortunately he has to play this role on ESPN
because that's basically what they're paying him for, right, I mean,
that's why he's getting the big bucks.
Speaker 6 (33:16):
Not to sit there and talk it intelligently, you know.
Speaker 3 (33:19):
But but yeah, I mean that's why I stick to
MLB Network mostly, you know, for baseball talk and football talk.
I'll stick with the NFL Network is they're normally have
decent conversations. They're like just the yelling and back and forth.
I just it's not it's not fun, so I skip it.
And it's probably not getting good ratings either.
Speaker 1 (33:38):
And by the way, we're gonna be talking a lot
more about steven A. Smith throughout the show later on.
I wanted to make sure we get some of these
other things out there right away so we can spend
more time on steven A. Smith. There's a lot to
bite off on him, for sure. So what we're gonna do,
We're gonna talk about one more thing. We'll go to
pund and fund it, go to the station brink. That's
the order that we're gonna have. The Oakland Coliseum is
gonna hold nine Major League cricket matches.
Speaker 9 (33:59):
At Tony Fine. People are going to use the building. Yeah, craking,
major link cracking, open calla Sam. What are your thought,
mister Bathball? The open coliseum?
Speaker 1 (34:09):
Is it demolish? Yeah?
Speaker 3 (34:13):
May as well use it for something, right, And I'm
I'm sure they'll get a bigger crowd than than the
a's we're getting in that thing.
Speaker 6 (34:20):
I'm sorry, you're not worry.
Speaker 2 (34:23):
I know you.
Speaker 3 (34:25):
It'll it'll get better. Yeah, it'll at least it's being
in you. So I'm happy about that.
Speaker 1 (34:29):
Yeah, So you better transition over to him before you
say he steals anymore. Don't worry the rat.
Speaker 2 (34:34):
Well, the rats that are in that coliseum might be
able to be used for pitt runners. So it's like, but, but,
but the big but, the big thing about something like
this is the fact that they had to do it
for something. And it's always when you see something like that,
it's always going to be something niche like that because
you want to show that. It's because remember the whole
idea of the place was it was falling apart there.
(34:56):
If it's falling apart, it's not gonna be used for football,
it's not gonna be use for anything or even the volleyball.
They're going to be find something in niche. Oh see, look,
then they can get something later.
Speaker 1 (35:07):
Candy.
Speaker 5 (35:09):
The Oakland Coliseum is set to be redeveloped by the
African American Sports and Entertainment Group, which has purchased the
site from the A's and the City of Oakland. The
five billion dollar development will include housing, a convention center,
entertainment venues, and retail, transforming the area into a mixed
(35:30):
used district. The historic Oakland Arena will remain, while the
Colosseum itself will be demolished to make way for the
new project. But in the meantime, hey, kudos to them
for finding a way to use you know, you hate
to see buildings, stadiums, whatever, empty and vacant and just
(35:52):
sitting there not being used. So kudos for them to
find something, some way to use them in the mean time.
Speaker 4 (36:01):
George, Yeah, it sounds a little bit far fetched of
an idea, but they got to do something with the facility.
And uh, my own choice was greyhound racing. You know,
they could have the dogs out there and do a
greyhound track inside there.
Speaker 1 (36:14):
You got the dogs, greyhound. I think greyhound train where
you're at. But I think horse racing isn't. Uh what
happened to Northfield Downs, what happened to Hazel Park. I
think they're gong gone right well greyhound so its greyhound,
So I think you better remember what state you're in.
Other than confusion, sick the man.
Speaker 4 (36:34):
Well, the greyhound raceing, I did not know it's gone
for the whole country. I mean, it hasn't.
Speaker 1 (36:40):
Florida anyway, So our our old greyhound track, the Hollywood
Greyhound Track. I think they're using it for a casino
down there. I don't know if they're using the hounds
and get me into a greyhound truck story because I'll
go to al Paso and war Is to give it
to you. But go ahead, continue, but your own greyhound ideas.
Speaker 4 (36:57):
There's other ideas. Yeah, you could do a lot of
other things. You could turn it into a stadium for
you know, for the college high schools. Uh, turn it
over to the high school district that there are several
districts in the Oakland area for use with football and baseball.
But yeah, other than that, No, the building itself, the
(37:19):
stadium itself, I don't think it's worth saving. I mean,
and you're not gonna put that kind of money in
it anyways to improve it. So they got to do
something with it until the good old wrecking ball comes. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (37:31):
I think cricket's not bad. I'm the problem with the
United States and none of us understand what the game is,
but it building is so I've been to that building
for it definitely wide enough to hold a cricket stadium.
They've got a local cricket stadium here in Candy somewhere
in Plantation. I've seen that place, never been inside the plate.
So yeah, I guess if there's roof for a sport
that needs a lot of land on the field, that's
(37:51):
as good a place as any Alitis are using it.
It's gonna Ponte Silver, Noma and all these other stadiums
that went without any use. At least they're using the oak.
I see them go ahead. Who else? One time?
Speaker 6 (38:02):
I'm saying that they're gonna get huge crowds for cricket.
Speaker 1 (38:06):
There's no cricket. Short people. Hey, I'm looking to build
a cricket audience. We did corn hole on this cricket.
Anybody uh speak English and does cricket? I don't know
what kind of a language of that. That's how ignorantcuse
no cricket.
Speaker 6 (38:18):
Going on in Florida. There's no cricket going on in
South Florida.
Speaker 2 (38:21):
I have no ideacket cricket is. Cricket is basically Indian
Pakistan as far as the rivalry. So yeah, they'll be
speaking English.
Speaker 1 (38:30):
Is that what that is? I don't know. Yes, news
for me, I don't know. I'm not knocking you people,
they know. I'm just saying at least I'm glad they're
using the Oakland Tallista or or something. Nobody does a
better job with their local facilities in Atlanta than refurbishing
them and making them good. And that'll be for another time.
We've talked about that before. What they've done. They took
the old Brave Stadium and turned it into a great
(38:51):
venue for Georgia State football. And they're using no buildings.
Every now and then when they have to tear one down,
I get it, but they don't tear around all the time.
But with that said, I'm going to transition over to
pundit pun it and turn it over to Jacob. Go ahead,
and Jacob nobody's thunder on this one.
Speaker 3 (39:07):
Well.
Speaker 2 (39:07):
One of the things. Also, Chris has seen me go
through this quite a bit this week, the whole debate
over Jalen Hurts. He's seen plenty of that.
Speaker 1 (39:18):
And this is the thing.
Speaker 2 (39:20):
One of the Goofy fans and I love to call
him Goofy. There's that or dork or the loser, or
however many other words I got for him. They'll say, well,
he's just a he's just a glorified coach on the field. Well,
he's just handing off the saquon. Okay, all right, moron.
(39:42):
Let's see here exactly. Yeah, okay, moron, let me see
here when they're going, when they're going under the center
and they're going sixty two thirty four whatever and everything
like that, and then there is leaning over to the
gext guy over to watch the shift. Guess what they did?
Someone this see to see someone. Oh, there might be
(40:02):
a there might be an audible from the linebacker, catch
it whatever, you know what I mean. That's what a
quarterback does. The stats are about two percent of it.
The stats are for the nerds.
Speaker 1 (40:16):
Mind you.
Speaker 2 (40:17):
Stats are icing. They're great icing. We none of us
have ever wanted a birthday cake that's just sponge.
Speaker 1 (40:24):
None of us have. We all want the icing.
Speaker 2 (40:27):
So we're all going to be impressed at four hundred
and fifty yards and five touchdowns or or four touchdowns.
That was actually Russell Wilson last week, four fifty seven
or something. He also lost. He also lost, And that's
the point of everything. The point of everything is to win,
no questions asked. And this is the thing that we've
(40:49):
gotten with this problem with And I love fantasy. I
play fantasy, and I mean there's something fantasy that drives
me nuts. Still, it's like the amount of people that
will threaten somebody if their team went bad or their
player went down or whatever. I mean, those are losers,
but those are losers. But the big thing I have
to say with something like this is the fact that
(41:10):
they need to understand. I mean, everybody knows how much
I love Caleb, but the thing is his stats are
high and they doesn't win at all, twelve out of
the last thirteen losses. It's this is a team sport.
It's what this thing should be. What Jalen Hurts is
(41:30):
doing is leading a team. He's the one that he's
the one that sees the signals, He's the one that
sees everything. I dare every fan this is the final
part of this. I dare every Eagles fan to say, oh,
Jalen Hurts will get hurt and then will put somebody
else and will be the same.
Speaker 1 (41:47):
I dare them.
Speaker 2 (41:50):
I dare them to throw just second or third stringer
Tanner McKee, I dare them go okay, go home. And
like when I say hypothetical on New Orleans with a
Tanner McKee, I promise they'll lose in the last second.
Speaker 1 (42:07):
They don't.
Speaker 2 (42:07):
I mean, it's like, yeah, they'll start off seven to
nothing and then they'll be like, oh see, and then
all of a sudden, seventeen fourteen at the end, they're
going wonder what the heck happened? And that's the point.
Then they're gonna be Then they'll lose six in a row.
Doesn't matter what their stats are. It's about wins. It's
about leading the team. Did you put a Tanner McKee
(42:29):
out there? Just as a hypothetical? Sa Quano gets smothered Now,
no matter how good he is, this isn't the Walter
Payton world anymore.
Speaker 1 (42:37):
Great Stop all right time fir Stakes a break.
Speaker 5 (42:41):
South Florida Tribune Publishing Company published a book, All Lessons

we are starting a series. We will have a former
nineteen ninety four Olympic Bob Slutter on the program and
(44:09):
he is going to be talking about CTE. We normally
associate it with football. But honestly, if you think about it,
Bob slutters, it's really affected that their sport, and he
is trying to raise money. He's got to go fundme.
He's trying to raise money because hyperbaric chambers and oxygen
(44:32):
help CTE victims and so he's trying to provide that
therapy to people for free. So he is trying to
raise money. So it's going to be a series, So
tune in next week Wednesday, eight pm Eastern Time.
Speaker 2 (44:49):
Hey, Candy, one thing you said with that is people
with some people just in the Rando class, random and everything,
they would laugh at that idea. People forget that Bob
Sled tips over and all their heads bang. The first
thing that bangs is their head, but.
Speaker 5 (45:05):
The Jacob it doesn't even And we think about if
you actually think about it, it's not just tipping over,
it's anytime they're going into a curve because they're already
moving at such force that we don't even think that
their head, even inside their helmet, is moving. And so yeah,
like I said, Goat, you have to watch the program
(45:26):
because we want to really have him tell his story
because there's a lot more to the story that I'm
not going to divulge that. It's a really interesting story,
so go check it out.
Speaker 1 (45:38):
Well, let me just point this programming, No Doubt, No
Limits will be the show that precedes the Sports Exchange
going forward, so this will be a perfect lead in
to the Sports Exchange on this This will be a
continuous topic until we run out of things to talk about.
This is something I gave a lot of thought to
and I'm always looking to the Tim Gage would say,
be industrious and this is of those moves where you
(46:00):
have to be a gunslinger, and I really am excited
about this. Also, Candy, I got a great job. And
the chat talk about the legality of greyhound racing, so
I hope you have a chance put it up there
real quick, Candy. Then we're gonna go to our first
nonsports topic of the night. So leave other states.
Speaker 5 (46:18):
In addition to West Virginia, live greyhound racing is still legal,
though not currently practiced, in the states of Alabama, Texas, Kansas, Iowa,
and Wisconsin.
Speaker 2 (46:29):
They have too many corn fields to be able to
do greyhounds racis.
Speaker 1 (46:34):
Well, okay, we'll take it through, all right, not fourth topic,
I'm sure, Chris Bill. Wait for the first one, Oh
my god, sure that he's coming from Well, this one
coming from Japan, Chris and everybody else the world. Lard
and floating air report in Japan has sunk over twelve meters.
It could be underwater by twenty fifty six. People. Kanti
(46:55):
International Airport is famously built on an artificial island in
those stock don't beay, but it's been seeking since it
opens in nineteen ninety four. All right, Chris, what do
you think about the world's largest bloating airport? Man? You
look at why over there? You know what if it.
Speaker 3 (47:14):
If it sinks in twenty fifty whatever, It's lasted sixty years,
so I think that's a pretty good deal.
Speaker 6 (47:20):
I think it lasted, right, You gotta look at it
that way.
Speaker 4 (47:24):
Well, what do we have?
Speaker 6 (47:25):
We got nothing. Our infrastructure in America stinks. I'm sure
Jacob would appreciate that. It stinks here. The infrastructure is horrible.
We could use a little bit of Japanese you know,
engineering over here.
Speaker 1 (47:44):
Well, don't worry, you'll get plenty of it on future
nonsports subject. But I thought this one made the most
sense tonight. All right, you segued over to Jacob. We'll
turn it over to Jacob.
Speaker 2 (47:54):
Well, if nothing else, remember those planes that land in
the water. You had plenty of those instead of the
regular planes, so they wouldn't have wheels anymore. But the
or here's nothing else. You could have all kinds of
Gertrude utterlyes and to just swim all the weights ashore,
you know, and stuff like that, if they wanted to
do something like that over there. But on the one
(48:14):
of the things is you brought this something to Chris.
You brought this up though it's affected. Yeah, things kind
of stink. And this is what I'm going to say, Chris,
I want to see. I mean, forget the whole thing
in the politics for a second. Here you're in New York, okay, yep.
Remember the whole thing with La and the bullet train
and there took money away and all that stuff we
heard the news and everything. Yeah, if President wanted to
(48:38):
really be a troll, he could just go himself and
do what he did with his ice skating rink back
in eighty four, build it himself if he really wanted
to trol. But that's where vengeance and stupidity come into play,
because we need things like that in this world. It's
like we didn't need the slow downs and all that
(49:01):
stuff just bringing that part up. We didn't need that.
But we do need those kind of trains. So if
you're a builder, go build it. That's all I'm saying. So,
but we need infrastructures like that, just like you were
saying with Japan.
Speaker 1 (49:15):
Okay, Kenny.
Speaker 5 (49:19):
So as I'm reading about this, this floating airport on
an artificial island that is sinking due to the natural
compression of the soft clay seabed it's built on. Since
it's opening in nineteen ninety four, the airport has sunk significantly,
and although engineering efforts have slowed the sinking rate and
(49:42):
efforts are underway to manage it, experts worn parts of
the airport could be below sea level by twenty fifty
six if the trend continues. It talks about, I mean,
I'm just I'm amazed. It was a twenty buil dollar
floating airport. In nineteen ninety one. The terminal construction commenced
(50:06):
to compensate for the sinking of the island. Adjustable columns
were designed to support the terminal building. They are extended
by inserting thick metal plates at their bases, but it's
it says that it's lowered by twelve point six feet
since nineteen ninety four, so the landfill began. I mean,
(50:31):
I'm just thinking if we built an airport over here
on a landfill or something. I mean, but my question
to you is, we've seen where cars now will drive us.
Do we really think there's going to be a need
for the airplanes or is there going to be by
(50:53):
twenty fifty six some kind of How should I put it,
Let's le Jetson's mobile that'll take us that we won't
even need airplanes and then we won't even worry about this.
Speaker 6 (51:04):
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (51:06):
I just like to look on your face when I
come up with this stuff, because you're perplexed every time,
and you just want their own. My gosh, that's good
enough for me. Sometimes body language means it all. So
let's say icon get top egg. I love it when
I come up with these things. I read them so
I don't have to comment them if they were That's
why I put them on the show. But it's the
other people, the reactions in the room that have me
and curious week in and week out. Oh my gosh,
(51:30):
And go ahead, Ichor, I'll give you the last word
about the floating airport.
Speaker 4 (51:34):
Well, I never heard of this idea before. I mean,
it's very very unusual. The Japanese are very crafty, they're
very good at engineering, just like the Chinese are and
the Taiwanese people. A lot of great, great thought goes
into these things in Asia, you know. I mean, you'd
(51:54):
be probably willing to try anything as long as it's
not human life at stake here or anything like that
when you try something different. But I really think that
this is very very unique, and it really is something
that you have to really have to see it to
believe it. I guess as saying would go, but I
would really have to take a look and see it though.
But it's it's crazy, man, and I it's a it's
(52:17):
a weird one, Scott. You really picked out a good one, though.
This is very unusual. And I don't like autonomous cars either,
so that's another subject for another day.
Speaker 1 (52:26):
We'll go to Google and work Instagram, Hordor, and you'll
see it. Sick them. Okay.
Speaker 5 (52:31):
Twenty five point nine million passengers went through that airport
last year alone. Really, it is the third busiest airport
in Japan.
Speaker 1 (52:42):
How me swim there? No, don't give her nont con time.
You don't even give her more time to come up
with it, because I know she will. Okay, she will,
She's Jacob.
Speaker 2 (52:59):
If you're twenty two thousand, just slam their last year.
Speaker 1 (53:03):
Okay, Well, if you inside her the research, you'll be
past your bedtime. You promise me, old show. Don't go there,
but I'll tell you where we are going to go.
We're going to Iceland because it's the only country in
the world that doesn't have any mosquitos. George, what do
you think of Iceland not having any mosquitoes?
Speaker 4 (53:18):
I love it. I love it. Those little buggers always
come out during the summertime in Michigan and elsewhere. As
we know, that is a pretty cool thing. Not to
have any mosquitoes bothering you as a country. That's amazing,
and I really am for it all the way. I
don't like them. I never have liked them, but then again,
(53:40):
people will tell you otherwise that, well, it's part of nature,
and the mosquito helps with something else, maybe it helps
the depopulation whatever, But no, I'd rather have that no mosquitoes.
Sign me up, Sign me up to Iceland for that.
Speaker 1 (53:55):
Well, no, we w to fly you up. Fine, then
you won't be able to go to any of your
sports eventsure, Polish Hall of Fame, every other But it'll
be all right. Should move there, I'll tell you I
love it up there just is my new favorite place
I've ever been to, not the squato little featable thing.
All right, Candy, you were there. We didn't see any.
Speaker 5 (54:14):
We didn't, I mean, Iceland doesn't have them, and it's
because it's harsh, cold and unpredictable climate marked by frequent
freeze thaw cycles prevents the insects life cycle from completing,
even though there are plenty of suitable water sources for breeding.
But they have other Let's face it, every place that
(54:36):
you go has positives and minuses, you know. Some places
have snakes, some places have different kind of spiders, like
some places have hurricanes, some places have tornadoes. Some places.
You're gonna have good and bad no matter where you are.
But the fact that you don't have mosquitos, and you
don't have disease carrying mosquitoes as well, makes it a
(54:59):
good place to live if you want to be in
a place that gets cold. A great part of the year.
Speaker 1 (55:07):
If you want serenity, you don't care for it. Sport
good Iceland, all right, make god, what do you think?
Speaker 2 (55:12):
Well, if you have an entrepreneurial spirit, the first mosquitos
to decide to migrate in there, you go get them coats,
Make them tiny little coats. You know they can be
able to survive the cycles and then wait till the
summer hits. But no, I think it'd be great because
personally I live in Hotlantis, so yeah, we get mosquitoes
all the time. You know, it's it's just a pain
(55:32):
in the butt. It's like and here's the thing, some
people get sick from mosquitoes. People just have that part,
so that that becomes a tough thing. Also, so how
vicious are they going to get over the.
Speaker 1 (55:41):
Years when the green wore find the topics in here?
I hate them. Everybody out there on chat wherever, tell
me what you think of mosquitos. They will have a
full question. How many people really like them? Guaranteed they'll
be easy too. All right, go ahead, Chris, I.
Speaker 6 (55:56):
Don't think anybody likes mosquitos.
Speaker 3 (55:57):
So yeah, if you tell I mean as a place
that's that there's no mosquitos.
Speaker 6 (56:02):
Yeah, I'm I'm down to move the Why not? Well,
what's the time difference in Uh? In Iceland?
Speaker 1 (56:10):
Four or five hours?
Speaker 5 (56:11):
It's only like it's less than London because it's closer,
So it's like four hours maybe four hours.
Speaker 1 (56:16):
I think it's not bad. We could do we can
do that.
Speaker 3 (56:18):
Fly over there, you can live over there, you could
get you know, you could probably stream games.
Speaker 6 (56:23):
Come on, we could still do this show from Iceland.
Speaker 1 (56:26):
Oh, I wouldn't mind do it. Hey, didn't they once
have a chess tournament out there? I think many years ago?
Speaker 4 (56:31):
Yes?
Speaker 1 (56:31):
Good, yeah, there you go. I know my chest back there.
We won't get into that, but all right, but I'll
tell you what we are going to get into his
mine town, man. That's We'll let George Drayncorn do that
because that's one of the good things he's good about
is my town, because he talks a lot about just kidding.
I like, I haven't seen I corn. I like to
bust the shops once a while, giving Chris the knight
off and get the chop busted. But no, all seriously, George,
(56:52):
my town. What's going on in Detroit?
Speaker 4 (56:55):
Well, Uh, everybody's excited as the Lions bounced back with
a tremendous went over to the Chicago Bears the other day.
I mean, people were really excited about that and how
rude Ben Johnson was when Jared Goff tried to go
after in a friendly way to shake his hand after
the game, and the Bears coach just pretty much blew
(57:16):
Golf off. He shook hands with Campbell, but he kind
of blew Jared off. But that's okay. There's a lot
of bad blood. The fans were very very rude. They
were doing a vulgar chant aimed at Johnson during the game.
I did not like that at all, and it's just
something that really you could do without. I don't really
particularly care for it. Detroit's going to have an unbelievable
(57:39):
test the course next Monday against the Baltimore Ravens in Maryland.
As far as the Tigers go, just briefly, they you know,
they were really struggling again. I don't know what's wrong.
This team seems to want to lose two out of
three more often than they were winning those series, as
you know, which was a constant and got them into
that position that they're in. But my guy to Cleveland
(58:00):
is not only what four and a half games. I
believe out with today's win, this race is not over.
I'm sorry, don't count your chickens before they're hatch the
old saying. If you're a Tiger fan, that's it for me.
I'll just stay to those two right now. Thanks guy.
Speaker 1 (58:14):
All Right, Candy, go ahead.
Speaker 5 (58:17):
So the Packers, obviously they have started out pretty good
to the season. They did re sign wide receiver Christian Watson,
who is currently injured, and I think, honestly, I think
that was a really good mood. Yes, he's been injury prone,
I will give you that, but it really allows him
(58:41):
the time to recover and really not rush back thinking
that he needs to prove himself this year in order
to get a new contract. So there's something to be
said about that. I like the excitement that the defense
is playing with. Whether you're a fan of Micah Parsons
or not, whether you can that was a good move
(59:01):
for Green Bay or not, they're playing with excitement. They're playing.
They're young, they go in. They not this week they play.
I believe it's it's Cleveland this week. So the Brewers,
on the other hand, they're doing doing pretty well right now.
(59:21):
They are they won today again against the Angels. They
have clinched a playoff spot. Uh, they're they're playing. They're
on house money. I mean, they got nothing to lose
like that. No one projected them to be where they are.
Uh so they have nothing but upside. No one expected
(59:44):
them to do anything, So I hope they go show
it prove everybody wrong.
Speaker 2 (59:50):
Uh, let's see.
Speaker 5 (59:51):
I'm hoping that the Badgers will bounce back. They did
not farewell with Alabama last week. U it seems, and
I don't know why, but it seems the last two years,
the starting quarterback in the first game of the season
goes down with injury, and the same thing happened this year.
And anytime a school that is not as elite as
(01:00:15):
some of the top tier schools, they don't have the
same second tier quarterback and it's just not the same.
So hopefully they'll be able to bounce back. That's pretty
much what's happening in my town.
Speaker 2 (01:00:28):
Okay, Jacob, Well, just to say this, Candy, they can.
They had all the news all week long, but no question,
Dan Campbell saw Caleb Williams and just notched a w
up there already. By the week they just went to
the rest. But I mean, I mean, that's exactly what
exactly what Dallas is gonna do. That's exactly what everybody's
gonna do.
Speaker 1 (01:00:49):
And so he is out.
Speaker 2 (01:00:50):
But there's not a good than my town part Atlanta.
They looked good against Minnesota, they looked from this is
against Minnesota. It's like, really overall, Pennix and Beijon might
be an absolute stack together. Especially the thing is Pennix
is more of a pocket quarterback, but he can be
(01:01:12):
able to run the ball. He needs to himself and
if he stays healthy, they're going to get dangerous very fast.
And one thing to forget if he's not healthy, they
that is a division that's always eight nine ten wins
will win the division. That's always. They just beat each
other up all the time. So even if it's not
like it's Eastern stick as your backup, it's Kirk Cousins.
(01:01:34):
So if he stays healthy, he gets everything they can.
Kind of got to remember Penis is not a you
don't do an RPO with Pennix. He's a pocket quarterback
too that can run a little bit, so you could
just swipe, you can slip Cousins in. If Penks gets hurt,
so they look pretty good right now. And even though
he's a very expensive backup, and you never know if
you trade Cousins because because they but at the same time,
(01:01:58):
do they want the contract Either way, I think they're
in better shape they would be if they had the
Eastern Stick and Pegs got hurt. So Atlanta might have
a really good year this year.
Speaker 1 (01:02:08):
Okay, Chrish, Yeah, I agree, Jacob.
Speaker 6 (01:02:11):
I like Atlanta this year. Yeah with us, I mean
New York football stinks already after two weeks, both teams
zero and two and both teams going nowhere this year.
So it's going to be up to the Yankees, not
really the Mets.
Speaker 3 (01:02:24):
I don't think the Mets are going to do much
in the playoffs, even if they make it, but just
hoping the Yankees bullpen can just settle down, if they
could just settle into their roles, Like bed NAR's already
the ninth inning guy.
Speaker 6 (01:02:39):
He looks like he's the closer.
Speaker 3 (01:02:40):
But the rest of the bullpen has got a straighten out,
and if they do, I think they got a great
shot to get back to the World Series again this year.
So that's what New York fans are going to be
looking forward to. I mean other than you know, the
Knicks will be starting soon and Rangers and Islanders.
Speaker 6 (01:02:55):
So it's really about it going on in New York?
Speaker 1 (01:03:00):
All right? What's going on in my town? Number one?
Earlier this spring, the Miami Dolphins were unwilling to take
on any of Jalen Ramsey's guaranteed money to facilitate the trade.
Guess what. They eventually sent him to the Pittsburgh the
Steelers for Minca Pasatic for Mika. He used to come
down and play for the old lowly Dolphins, but he
(01:03:20):
was a huge factor, and the Steelers went over the
New York Jets with that said, more power than Jalen
Ramsey and Mika Fitzpatrick here in for a rebuild, and
I can only hope that you can sell with that
thing that they had there called the dumpster fire. What
else is going on in my town? Well? The stage
is set Saturday night, Miami Hurricanes host to Florida Gators.
(01:03:42):
It should be an interesting contest. Candy and I will
be there to provide coverage nationally as well as locally.
So enjoy your win and joy win win. The Florida's
not beating them, yeah, no, Florida Gators right now are
in a heap of trouble. And I'll say what, it's
gonna get any easier. But the Miami Hurricanes are looking
pretty good under Carson Beck. Mario Crysto bal Is done
(01:04:05):
a good job. They have a lot of good players,
and they certainly did ran rousshot over my Holma Monter
use your South Florida on Saturday forty nine to twelve.
But that's the side of the point. The Canes are
looking good. The Dolphins are looking bad. But the one
thing they have in common is they play at hard
Rock Stadium. All right, Next non sports topic of the
night is this. Once we talked about homes stadiums, we're
(01:04:29):
gonna talk about homes. Walmart is selling tiny home for
sixteen thousand dollars nineteen my twenty feet bathroom, living room, bedroom, kitchen.
How long can you live in a tiny home, Cris?
I could.
Speaker 6 (01:04:45):
I could probably live in a tiny home. That shouldn't
be too bad.
Speaker 3 (01:04:48):
I see listen, Amazon is selling houses now too, those
those kind of homes.
Speaker 6 (01:04:52):
So I think Walmart is smart for doing this. Why not, right,
I'd be all for it.
Speaker 1 (01:04:59):
Ill's good?
Speaker 2 (01:05:00):
What about you, Jacob trying to take trying to take
the people from Ikea. I mean, it's understood, and Amazon
trying to be able to do the same thing.
Speaker 1 (01:05:13):
But I don't.
Speaker 2 (01:05:15):
That's the big thing. When I mean, I if Sam
Walton was around, he was doing it, I would trust it.
It's like they sell everything and most of it's crap
at Walmart. Between clothes and food and all that stuff,
it's crap. And the biggest thing about it is, in fact,
if I want a really nice home, I'm going to
(01:05:36):
go to Ikea. If I would do that, I want
to go to Ikea. That's just being very honest. They're
the one that started it all in the first place. Walmart.
I go there maybe twice every two years. It's just
it's junk. Now, it's unfortunate, but it's junk.
Speaker 1 (01:05:54):
So are you telling me that you'll live in one?
Speaker 2 (01:05:57):
Well, see, I would open the door and fall apart.
Would be kind of like a Charlie Chaplin movie, you know,
he just fall apart all around me. Man I slammed
the door.
Speaker 1 (01:06:06):
So I mean, I don't think so. Well, yeah, I
don't know if a tiny home would fits your personality.
But one of the things I'm looking to get done
for you down the road here on live areas. I'm
gonna get you on the show with the young actress
by the name of Rachel Delvan. I'm gonna work. Yeah,
I'll do that. We'll have to figure out the time
to do it. Rachel do to come on pretty soonable
that log jam a program when we have coming up.
(01:06:26):
It's unbelievable. But that hasn't left the back of my mind.
You'll definitely get some benefit. All right, Candy, What do
you think about tiny Holmes?
Speaker 5 (01:06:34):
I think tiny Holmes is a great concept.
Speaker 6 (01:06:38):
I think.
Speaker 5 (01:06:41):
Especially for a lot of people that can't afford big,
big houses, A lot of the homeless people. I would
love to see them, some of the veterans you know
that can't afford a lot or choose not to. You know,
(01:07:03):
we we've become a society of I need, I need,
I want, I want, I want, I want more and
I want more and I want more. And it's and
what happens when I hate to say this, but what
happens when you pass away? You have all this stuff
and someone else has got to do with all your junk, Like,
do you need the big houses?
Speaker 1 (01:07:23):
Do you you know?
Speaker 5 (01:07:25):
Could I live in a small house. Absolutely, do I
want to buy it from Walmart? Not necessarily good for you.
Speaker 1 (01:07:35):
Well, George, I guess that leaves you well. I went
from we went from Iceland to tiny holes. I'll bet
you never thought you'd see that.
Speaker 2 (01:07:41):
When we don't What about tiny homes in Iceland?
Speaker 4 (01:07:44):
What about not.
Speaker 1 (01:07:48):
With mosquitos?
Speaker 4 (01:07:49):
With Candy, I thought that also is the homeless. Let's
get the homeless off the streets in our major cities.
Let's get them. Let's buy some of those tiny homes,
and let's get the people there off of those freezing overpasses,
underpass laying out there in the in the raw cold
(01:08:09):
or in the heat of the summer. We could try,
we could try some of those tiny homes. Me personally,
I probably would not like it because I got too
much of that stuff that Candy talks about.
Speaker 1 (01:08:21):
Yeah, I have.
Speaker 4 (01:08:23):
With that, I'd have to give all my memorabilia right
over to Scott. I don't know where he's gonna put it. Okay, Okay,
Candy will do it for you. Get the garbage dumpster out.
Speaker 1 (01:08:37):
Well, I mean, if I'm forced to answer that question,
I want to say, I'll say about it is if
you put me on some land and is an opportunity
to chill out on some land. I guess I can
handle one of them out there, a bed out in
the middle of the land where it's all peace, all
that straight. I've already fallen in love with Iceland. And
when I start traveling more and more international to the
other places that I enjoy, oh my goodness, life. As
(01:08:58):
I start to back away and scale back, take the
Michael kay vergon, Okay, oh my goodness, international, baby, make
your own kind amusic.
Speaker 2 (01:09:09):
They're gonna win a Grammy for that eventually, if you
do it enough.
Speaker 1 (01:09:12):
Oh, I'm telling you, I'm working on that. But I've
been about like it. Michael kay You know, he has
his voice issues. I have mine too, you know, made
your own kind of news. Yeah, I can live in
a tiny homeless on some land. It's all good. So
all right, let's talk about our feature Top of the Night,
Top four broadcasters, and here's what we're going to talk about.
How Stephen A. Smith five year, one hundred plus million
(01:09:33):
dollar deal with the SBA compares to other broadcasters. I'll
break I'll break down particular Tom Brady thirty seven point
five million per year, Ferald Barkley twenty one million per year.
Leevin A. Smith had twenty million per year. He's number three,
Troy Aikman at eighteen million per year, Tony Romo believe that,
get this as eighteen million per year, US at number five,
(01:09:55):
Pat McAfee's seventeen million, and he had Shaqil O'Neil. Oh
my goodness this listen, I look at it again. Fifteen
million per year and Joe Buck fifteen million. Joe Buck
is Candy's favorite announcer by the way, Now she just looked,
doesn't want to admit it, but so you know what,
I'm gonna start off with Candy. You know, said Joe
Buck is her all time favorite candy. What do you
think of Steven A. Smith? And how does the bear
(01:10:17):
was all the this group? And tell him how much
you love Joe Buck?
Speaker 4 (01:10:25):
Oh?
Speaker 5 (01:10:25):
I love Joe Who wouldn't.
Speaker 2 (01:10:31):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (01:10:32):
Yeah, a lot of people.
Speaker 1 (01:10:35):
Yeah, she's some tied here. She need to see this curveballentleman,
go on, Candy swing and hit it.
Speaker 5 (01:10:42):
Okay, Bin hit it. But like I said before, stephen
A gets paid for his personality. He drove ratings up
for ESPN when people did other people didn't. Some people
love like Christmas, saying earlier in the program, he loves
a very like a sports reporter type show where they're
(01:11:06):
talking and discussing things. Well, the other flip side, some
people really like an animated, loud, opinionated person. And so
do I think he is worth that kind of money?
Absolutely not, But he entertains. And let's face it, there's
(01:11:28):
actors that get paid how much for movies, there's athletes
that get paid how much for and it's a business,
but it's an entertainment business because it's entertaining us. They're
playing a game and they're getting paid lots of money.
So do I think he's getting paid way too much? Absolutely?
(01:11:50):
I think most of them are getting paid way too much,
but to their benefit. Hey, when you earn it, and
you earn the contract someone's willing to pay you, go
out and make as much as you can because you
don't know how long you're gonna be able to be
in that position. And in that role, let's face it,
(01:12:11):
ESPN has cleaned house how many different times, so you
never know how long he's gonna still be there. So
go get the money that you can get if someone's
willing to pay you for it. I'm not the one
that's paying paying it.
Speaker 1 (01:12:25):
So go earn it, George.
Speaker 4 (01:12:29):
Yeah, I you know, it's mind boggling, it really is.
I mean Tom Brady, you know, of course, was the
greatest the goat. And you know, what does Fox do
is go out there, like you said, and give him
ten years, three hundred and seventy five million dollars unbelievable.
I not that I don't like him, but I just
think that he's going to need a little bit more
time to develop. And of course we all know about
(01:12:52):
his connection now with the Raiders. The other thing is
that when you talk about guys, you know, you think
about the names that you mentioned, Scott, A lot of
them are the analytical types. They're the analysts, they're the commentators.
Joe Buck and I know al Michaels must be up
there too somewhere. Those are the kind of guys that
(01:13:13):
I grew up with as far as the play by
play goes. But it's interesting just to note that, you know,
it's the analysts now or commentators if you will, that
are making more. And I'm not holding anything back. I mean,
if somebody's out there willing to pay Tom Brady or
Steven A or whomever you know, that kind of money,
(01:13:33):
All the more power to them. I mean, I don't
necessarily agree that they all deserve what they're getting, but
the fact is is that they are. They're highly paid
because they do something. They bring ratings and they bring
the numbers that that particular network or sport needs. So
all the more power to them, I say. As far
as getting that kind of load of money, Jacob, Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:13:56):
I don't.
Speaker 2 (01:13:56):
I mean, here's the thing. I can't say anything about
this because I would love to be able to be
a pundit to get you, but I just won't ever
be with ESPN, you know what I mean. I would
love to do, they'd they'd be too afraid of me.
Speaker 1 (01:14:11):
So kidding this topic, this topic was ideally suited for you, Jacob, Yeah,
I think about these topics real thick a lot, especially
when you're on these shows.
Speaker 2 (01:14:20):
I mean, I have two places that's gonna ever call
me in life, and I doubt they'll do it. We'd
be outkicking. It'd be like a daily wire. Other than that,
and there's gonna be nobody. So there's gonna be no one.
So most likely I'm gonna be building my own empire.
But the thing is, I don't mind. I don't mind
it by itself because money is just such a different way,
(01:14:41):
and you're making it a billion different ways now. It's
like podcasting. You go and podcasts along with everything. As
far as see, the only one that's not doing that
is Tom Brady with Tom Brady Owns that has the
ownership of the Raiders.
Speaker 1 (01:14:53):
So there's that.
Speaker 2 (01:14:55):
But everybody else that's doing any kind whatsoever, whether it's
Greg Olsen, whether it's any of those we brought up
an own Eagle, any of them are gonna have podcasts
of some type, right, and all that kind of stuff.
There's that money whatsoever. There's it's just like like in
the old wrestling days, you did the announcing just like
on the shows and did it all that kind of stuff.
(01:15:15):
Now you've got TV, now you've got again podcasting. Now
you've got a billion different ways of getting information out there.
That's why there's the extra and if people are listening,
and remember it's not viewers, it's not Nielsen, it's hits,
And that's where the thing is going with It's like
they talked about and a little thing that comes with it.
(01:15:37):
I was putting this vote quote on the poster on
Facebook the other day. It's not just like like I said,
it's not Nielsen. They talked about how many hits like
some of the Netflix or all the streaming networks get
number eighteen of all time. I'm twenty twenty five right now.
It's gun smoke after all these years.
Speaker 4 (01:15:56):
It's not.
Speaker 2 (01:15:56):
I mean, yeah, there's gun smoke still after it's seventy
started seventy years.
Speaker 1 (01:16:00):
Ago, So it's not.
Speaker 2 (01:16:04):
It's so guess what. It's not Nielsen.
Speaker 1 (01:16:06):
RADI is not anything.
Speaker 2 (01:16:08):
So you have more of an opportunity to make that
kind of money because you're gonna see people if some
if one of us ever got one billion views, we're
set for life.
Speaker 1 (01:16:18):
It's true.
Speaker 2 (01:16:19):
So there's that part right there.
Speaker 1 (01:16:21):
Because this is the way they pay, all right, Chris,
he gave you a lot to work with their.
Speaker 6 (01:16:27):
Yeah, listen, you can't blame them for taking the money,
right like Brady, you can't.
Speaker 3 (01:16:33):
You can't blame the guy for taking three hundred and
seventy five million dollars from somebody.
Speaker 6 (01:16:39):
Is he the best?
Speaker 3 (01:16:40):
I think he's gotten better since he first started. He's
definitely gotten better. I thought I thought Greg Olsen was
the better the better guy. I thought he should have
been on that number one team on Fox, but you know,
he got kind of demoted once Brady got there.
Speaker 4 (01:16:56):
But yeah, I mean I.
Speaker 6 (01:16:57):
Don't I don't watch.
Speaker 3 (01:16:59):
The thing is, I don't get why they get paid
so much, because I don't watch a game to hear anybody,
you know, to hear a certain announcer, you know, like
whoever's there. Like, I'm not going to turn a game
off or turn a game on because of course of
the announcer, right, I mean, if I want to watch
a game, I'm watching a game, whether it's those two
guys or two of us talking about it, right, because
(01:17:22):
I'm there to watch the game.
Speaker 6 (01:17:24):
So I'm amazed a how much these guys get paid.
Joe Ross, he is what he is?
Speaker 2 (01:17:29):
Sorry, sorry, that's right. How old are How old are you?
Speaker 1 (01:17:33):
Did you say? I'm sorry?
Speaker 6 (01:17:35):
Fifty three?
Speaker 2 (01:17:36):
Yeah, And it's like I'm forty seven.
Speaker 1 (01:17:38):
So we can say this.
Speaker 2 (01:17:38):
But here's the thing. Like, for instance, if you go
there's a pile of old PGA tournaments from like you
can go away from the sixties all the way to
two thousands. Yeah, and going on piles on YouTube, a
lot of the old British ones have no scoreboard up,
(01:18:00):
barely announcers. They say three words and it's usually oh
that's so beautiful, you know, and it's like, oh that
was so swing, you know that kind of thing. They
say nothing and it's quiet. It's it is dead air.
And it's like, and guess what, You and I could
watch it all day before we're watching golf. Were used
to it if you want, Yeah, if you want to,
(01:18:20):
you and I could do it because we've seen it.
So we've known what dead air sounds like in our life.
But there's no way they can get away with that anymore.
And it's like and it's and it's one of those things.
It's like you were talking about it yourself, but to
do But what we're talking about is dead air and
they can't get away with any of that right for
what we want to see. So there's where our problem lies.
(01:18:41):
It is the fact that it's not our world anymore.
It's like, we can watch this stuff from YouTube, but
you try to put that in front of a fourteen
year old forget it.
Speaker 3 (01:18:51):
I mean, I'll be honest, I've watched games and I've
muted it and put like music on you know, I've
been at that point, you know, not all the time,
and sometimes I've listened to the radio calls instead of
what you know, instead of the TV calls.
Speaker 1 (01:19:05):
So yeah, that's common too. I've seen people do that.
Speaker 3 (01:19:09):
I'm just not that impressed by some of the announcers
for them to get paid the money they get that,
the money that they get paid, it is ridiculous.
Speaker 6 (01:19:16):
Well yeah, I'll tell you, both of you know hang
Out No and the Cold they should get paid more money.
Speaker 1 (01:19:22):
Yeah, both of you set this one up really well
for me. I appreciate everybody for doing that. Here's what
you have. Remember when I've met Steven A. Smith a
couple of times, I've seen a lot of people on
the air. Bob Lee, first of all, is my all
time favorite. Candy remembers my interaction with him and n Sma.
It was unbelievable. And Bob Lee retired and retired after
(01:19:42):
we left and back, and I knew he would is
the best ESPN talent they've ever had. Bob Lee hand
down number one. Steven Ah Smith. I'll say this much
about him, does it carry a lot of following. I
think he's worth a lot of money. But the thing
I've learned about I'm watching him and in my couple
of interactions with him is he may be loud, but
(01:20:05):
he researches his stuff. So if you think you're gonna
get into a screaming match with this guy and think
you can beat him at his game when he's researching,
you're in trouble. If you don't believe me, ask Max
Kellerman who got run off a network that way. He
literally got railroaded off that network because of it. The
Stephen A. Smith is definitely worth the money because of
(01:20:27):
what he brings on a platform. Max Kellerman got run off.
He's intimidated a lot of people for sure. But I
don't have a problem the loud if that's his style,
it is what it is. But the guy on that
list and I really think is worth a lot of
money with Charlo Barkley. Charle Barkley is a guy that
speaks his mind and a lot of people love him.
Hear what he has to say, and that's why he's
(01:20:49):
in my book. I admire what he stands in front
with Steven A. Smith, he wears on you for a while.
You just have to get used to his demeanor and
how he goes about doing things. We'll continue these even
a thing a little bit. We have two more topics
we want to get to and then a special birthday grinning.
I want to get out there as well. So get this.
Stephen A's contract perks include his primary focus are obviously
(01:21:12):
going to be on First Take and the NBA, appear
in the NBA, appear on Monday Night countdown, the ability
to grows production company, freedom to talk politics and social issues.
If he was able to get that in his contract,
that was a win. Is all right, and I'm not
getting into politics on it, but it's not. It's the
worst CP secret on the planet. He's going to run
for presidents down the road. I think he's using this
(01:21:34):
to set that up. That's one of the enticing things
that you have a platform that bank how you're able
to do it? Do I need everybody to comment on this.
Speaker 2 (01:21:41):
Which I brought that up. I brought that up on
my Facebook today. I made Chris may have seen it.
I said, I said, if you think that forty million
is big, now wait till he gets a superpack exactly.
Speaker 1 (01:21:51):
So he'll go to the moon. So so yeah, let
me finish my thought. But I agree with your great
minds thinking light there. So he's got that plan from
the set up as presidential run whatever happens on the road.
I don't get into politics. I'm just mentioning it. But
here's a guy. Your win is in so much to
forty million bucks, Your win really is you know, first
take NBA and that's nothing. But when he has a
(01:22:16):
chance to grow his politics and a social issue, that's
where this whole thing sets in. All Right, the floor
is George Aikorn. You agree or disagree, don't make it long.
Speaker 4 (01:22:28):
Well, step and a Smith we're talking about again.
Speaker 1 (01:22:31):
Yeah, we got one more. We're gonna talk about it again.
Speaker 4 (01:22:34):
I mean, I'm not at all opposed to making as
much money as you can and this freedom of the
United States of America. Some people turned off, they don't
like him, they don't want him. Then you just have
to either turn the sound down or you put on
a different channel. Is he opinionated, Yes, But so is
Charles Parkley opinionated, So is Shack O'Neill. So, I mean,
(01:22:56):
we got a situation here, and it is it's just
amazing how these salaries have skyrocketed. And the fact is that, yeah,
he doesn't have a single source for that income. He's
going to have multiple sources, and he is looking at
the future. I don't want to get into it either, Scott,
but yes, I agree that he's really looking into the future.
Speaker 1 (01:23:15):
Yeah, he's just setting up the central saying George is
setting up the stage for the inevitable. I think we
could say that without getting into trouble, right, right, right,
and then it got the following to do it right?
Speaker 4 (01:23:27):
He does, absolutely, and I'll leave it at.
Speaker 1 (01:23:30):
That, all right. Can he need a researst or do
you have an opinion?
Speaker 5 (01:23:33):
I have an opinion. I think if you are on
a sports program and you are that, you shouldn't be
talking about politics. If he wants to talk about politics
outside of that, that's fine because the rest of us
can always turn him on or off depending on what
it is. Everybody has a right to their opinion, and
(01:23:56):
everyone has that has a voice, has a has a
right to voice that opinion. It's up to you whether
you want to listen to it. As long as you're
being respectful. That's the only happle to say no.
Speaker 1 (01:24:07):
And I think you're one hundred percent right. Number one,
You have streaming and he is his own production company,
and if he wants to talk about on his own
production company and George, and I'll tell you everybody that's
not SCC regulated, that's a different animal altogether. Georgia, when
we were doing our thing back in seventy nine, you
know who in the right mind ever thought about streaming
production companies all that stuff. I never thought that my
(01:24:28):
final stuff would be on my own platform doing this,
But that's how things work, So streaming his own production
company any more power to them nowadays. When I've had
the vision of starting the Tribune years ago, I saw
that those newspapers were going south, and I quickly turned
to digital. And then everybody else started catching on layers
that make me smarter anybody else, No, but I saw
(01:24:49):
the direction was going. So you have to be insightful
to be able to know what the inevitability is. And
I know, jab you comment on this, Is there anything
quickly you want to add to it? Will turn over
to Chris. And one last thing I want to get
to Wright. I send out this propecial happy Birthday go
ahead to Jacob.
Speaker 2 (01:25:03):
Now the overall is you brought up the things with
these people, you know, It's like you brought it up
with you having their own platforms or everything. Everybody. One
great thing that I can say with something like this
is everybody has their platform and everybody's got a shot
before it was, so you got to remember everybody. It's
(01:25:25):
like if you try to go like put it in
resumes for ESPN, now you're a boomer. It's just true.
It's like your main thing is to start your owns,
your own company, your owns, the show, your own empire
if you will, and have them call you, have them
come to That's what my dad used to say about
me with dates. He just says, let them come to you.
(01:25:48):
It's like, it's kind of funny now you think about
the thing. But guess what, that's the way you get
the media. That's the way you get everything. You almost
build your own stuff and let them come to you.
Speaker 3 (01:26:01):
Well done, okay, Chris, Yeah, listen, if you're talking about
him running for president or something like that.
Speaker 6 (01:26:08):
You know, why not? At this point? What is politics
right now?
Speaker 1 (01:26:13):
Like what do we? Uh?
Speaker 6 (01:26:15):
You know, I don't want to get too deep into it,
but why not why not run for it?
Speaker 1 (01:26:20):
Right?
Speaker 3 (01:26:20):
Both both parties are a mess, so why not run?
He's probably got a shot to win because Look what's
out there. Look what it's become. It's become a poop show.
So why not run?
Speaker 1 (01:26:33):
Yeah, but you see all the person I guess my
question to you, Chris, is you understand the perks for
there in general where he's getting a lot of other
things in addition to these other things. That's what it's
all about nowadays, if you can get more freedom to
say what you want. When I'm getting in trouble because
you look at all in the last week, and I'm
not getting in any specifics, how many individuals have lost
their job over an unfortunate recent tragedy that's taken place.
(01:26:56):
I mean, we're in his case, he might get away
with it because he's already covered his backside. Other people
when they went out on a limb, found themselves out
of a job. I'm not divulging anything, but I think
a lot of people that are following the tea leaves
there can understand that this is where the perk's coming
to play for this guy. He's smart, he's shrewd, he negotiated,
(01:27:16):
he's in advance. This is a This was an absolute
platform they couldn't handle rush Limbo okay, and now they
have this guy who's polarizing. Rush Wimbo was on their
NFL pregame show and they let and he didn't make
it a year. That's what this is about, Chris. It's
about the perks and all that. If you don't want
(01:27:37):
to go any further, I'm okay, and I'm with what
everything you have to say. I really am ye. So
that's the one last little fact and nobody has to
come and it is what Stephen A. Smith is being
paid more than all but eighty two NFL players that
I want to tell you exactly the nature has conversation
and will leave it at that. So all right, I
(01:27:58):
know I'm stealing this from from George, but I didn't
mention it on football for a reason, so I'll go
ahead and mention it now. Happy one hundred birthday to
Martha Firestone Forward. To make it one hundred years old
for that woman is unbelievable. You talk about the fortunes
of the franchise that has changed when she took over,
and only to turn it over to her daughter, Sheila Hampford.
(01:28:19):
I think her name is more power too. So happy birthday,
missis Forward. Hope you've enjoyed it, and I'm glad that
you've had a chance to see your team do any
some well in the last couple of years. All right, George,
you can talk about this one.
Speaker 4 (01:28:32):
Well, yeah, I mean she's an incredible woman. She really is.
When you think about the women and George Hallis's widow
and the ladies Frontiera Rosenbloom at the time she was
a there's been a lot of them and I'm not
gonna start naming them, but missus Ford she's stuck with it, okay.
And my feeling is that, you know she was maybe
(01:28:54):
a silent partner with her husband, you know, Scott. You
would see him in the locker room all the time,
mister Ford after lying games. Missus Ford she's not that accessible.
But then again, she's one hundred years old. She did
a nice thing and smoothly transitioned to one of her daughters.
I think it was a great handoff, a great tribute
to her, and there's no question about it. She's going
(01:29:16):
to be remembered a long long time as far as
the NFL and women in the NFL goes.
Speaker 1 (01:29:20):
Yeah, Well, where you're really missing it here is when
she took over the ownership from her husband, she cleaned
house and got rid of a lot of people.
Speaker 4 (01:29:29):
She did.
Speaker 1 (01:29:30):
I remember when she did that. She took control and
wiped out a lot of people. This is how her
husband ran it. That's how I'm running in and a
lot of heads rolled. I'm not mentioning names, but that's
when she put her That's when she put her stamp
on it, and we know what the succession plan goes there. Anyways,
having a one hundred birthday with Fort Katie, I'm sure
he has some pretty nice thoughts about a woman that
(01:29:50):
who's obviously a game changer, one hundred years of age, woman,
minority ownership, especially with the female side, a lot of them.
We're not going to mention this. This second strictly dedicated
to missus Ford.
Speaker 5 (01:30:04):
So kudos to her, because, let's face it, anybody that
makes it that long, like we've all talked about how
we hit. You hit certain ages and you start to
feel it in your bones. You're taking more medic medicines
and everything like that. So kudos to her. She still
looks like she was in good health over one hundred years,
you know, old and part owner like you. I like
(01:30:28):
to see females be successful, especially in the sports arena.
Whether it be owner, whether it be athlete, and then
and then to live as long as she has, that's awesome.
Speaker 6 (01:30:39):
Kudos to her.
Speaker 5 (01:30:39):
I hope she lives many more years.
Speaker 1 (01:30:42):
That's why I don't think there's a better way to
end to childon with her at the very end, all right, Jacob.
Speaker 2 (01:30:48):
Well, she has to be I'm just saying this part whatsoever.
Speaker 1 (01:30:51):
She has to be more.
Speaker 2 (01:30:53):
She has to be more less, not saying more. She
has to be less insufferable than Virginia McCaskey was. So
I'm the one thing is that's good. That's a good
thing for her. But one of the things about it
is we're gonna see this a lot more. I mean,
look at the look at the the three Look at
the three daughters that are running them. You know, daughters
(01:31:14):
that are running the cult right now, and they're too
old right you know, it's like and if they succeed
being that, you're gonna see this a lot more. And
guess what, there will be people that are rooting for
them to have another four or five win things. So
it goes, that's up. But they're gonna here's the deal
they get regardless of it. They do know their football.
(01:31:36):
There are people that throw complaints that they're on the
field and they're listening in and they're trying to make
sure to see if the coaches know what they're talking about.
When they're doing it, they stay on the microphone, they
have the ears the ears open and I say this,
they've been doing this since they.
Speaker 1 (01:31:51):
Are about eight years old. Nine years old.
Speaker 2 (01:31:53):
They were within that the whole time he taught them
the game. They know this kind of stuff. So it's like,
I trust them. So this it's like, and you look
what you're having right now with Jalen Hurts. He's got
an all women the Banishment group and look at all
the stuff that he's.
Speaker 1 (01:32:08):
Taken care of.
Speaker 2 (01:32:09):
So this isn't the world where it's like they're way
and it's like if it's the world where the man
runs things, it is by volunteering. I mean, the woman
says that they want him, but you don't have to
have that anymore. It's this is just a different world.
You know, you're both sides can do it now.
Speaker 3 (01:32:26):
Christ Yeah, I think it's amazing. You know, God bless
our one hundred years old and still being around at
one hundred is uh, that's a gift in life. I
think to be around that long and to see everything
that she's seen. Unfortunately, you know, not to make fun
or anything, but she hasn't seen her team, you know,
(01:32:47):
get to a super Bowl or anything.
Speaker 6 (01:32:49):
Maybe one year hopefully she'll see it. Maybe this year.
Speaker 3 (01:32:53):
You never know, but no, Candy does not agree that
trying to be nice Candy probably not gonna happen, but
you never know. But hey, God, God bless her. She's
an amazing, amazing woman.
Speaker 1 (01:33:09):
Well, you know what, I have to get ready to
wrap up the show. I'll tell you what I'm gonna do.
I'm gonna whipping her own award, and then Candy is
gonna take us for us the way the rafting part
of my voice is a not ready to set in Chris,
Lunch and everybody know, they get ahold and talk about
Friday night show and what I'm in for, what everybody
else is in for. I know that you and Rob
have been certainly looking forward to this a few weeks
into making, but it was like, we're gonna have an
opportunity to have some fun. Going to more details, Chris, Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:33:33):
It should be fun Friday night, ten o'clock on our
on our show n y MLB Talk you can find
us on YouTube, Twitter and also Facebook and all that stuff.
Definitely check it out. Scott's gonna be one of our guests.
We're gonna have Anthony Savino, big loud met fan, so
it should be fun. It's gonna be a fun show.
(01:33:55):
We tried to get together a couple of weeks ago,
just didn't work out, but yeah, looking forward to it.
He's he's a fun guy. He's a fun guest, and
so is Scott. So we should have a very interesting
uh episode uh Friday night.
Speaker 6 (01:34:10):
So definitely looking forward to it. I can't wait for
it now.
Speaker 1 (01:34:12):
I'm looking forward to crossing pants with Anthony. I know
I wouldn't do this normally the night before a game
like this, but I've been looking forward to meeting this
guy for a few weeks. He's a good Gators and
the King.
Speaker 5 (01:34:22):
No.
Speaker 1 (01:34:22):
I've heard nothing but good things about him, and the
fact that I we'll have an opportunity to uh be
in the same airwaves will be pretty good stuff. Especially
so ten o'clock pm Eastern time. Go check him out,
all right? Take him go ahead.
Speaker 2 (01:34:35):
Oh, I'm on by the way, with your with your
Mets fan just mate, Like I only make another Frank
the Tank deal.
Speaker 1 (01:34:42):
Make sure he's not.
Speaker 6 (01:34:42):
Him Now, he's much but he's much better than Frank.
Frank the Tank is just uh.
Speaker 2 (01:34:47):
He's a moron, yeah, mon, But I mean, I mean
he's a morons everything. He's everything bad about bands and
then and then and the front special guys.
Speaker 1 (01:35:00):
Yeah, no he's not but still but not.
Speaker 6 (01:35:03):
No, I'm saying, you know what I mean, especial.
Speaker 1 (01:35:04):
Yeah, I get you mean.
Speaker 2 (01:35:05):
Yes, I am on Facebook, where I do all the
philosophies of Greek and literature, you know that kind of
deal like that. No, I'm on Facebook, Jacob Christener. I
am on Once in a Blue Moon, on Instagram. I
I am on TikTok that is sideline on sports. I
(01:35:29):
get guest spots in different places ryan nef I named
a couple others already. And then I just as I
get calls and all that stuff I should be getting.
I think I'm gonna be getting a Monday Night and
spot soon. But I'll let you folks know about that.
And I just do a couple of things, and I
also write scripts so we see what happens from there.
Speaker 1 (01:35:47):
Yeah. Again, like I told you down the road, I'm
gonna I'll get you and Rachel together. She's a woman
that you could definitely pair up with if you're looking
at the entertainment.
Speaker 2 (01:35:57):
And one more thing, I was also at the nflp
a See Cancer Society thing. I actually actually met Ernie.
Ernie Johnson, you real, real short because he real show,
because he does not look great, doesn't any very thing.
And it's like it was just a handshake and a
go you know what I mean, And it's like he
(01:36:17):
wasn't but it was nice to that. I also met
a bunch of men Edwin Moses met. I mean, I've
met a bunch of the old NFL veterans and I
should see some of them at Suit Bowl if I
go this year.
Speaker 1 (01:36:28):
Let me tell you something I came across Ernie past
few year's ago, really personal. We spent some time talking.
One of the nicer guys. Don't meet okay, Marvin Powell.
Speaker 2 (01:36:37):
I also met there.
Speaker 1 (01:36:39):
Well, I Marvin Paul. My goal is get him on
the show and then not so just a future. That's
what we're striving for, to get you and him and
I and Chris. You're gonna be meeting some people soon,
my friend. Okay, George, go ahead, and Candy takes us
the rest of the way. All right.
Speaker 4 (01:36:53):

Florida Tribune on the contributors section, and at the end
