Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is Ricky Starkson. You're listening to sports guys talking
wrestling when they're not covering the sports world. They're talking
about the world or professional wrestling. It's sports guys talking wrestling.
Now here's Stu Myrick. It is sports guys talking wrestling.
(00:22):
Stu byric Here back from a nice little visit to Orlando. No,
I did not go to the ww Performance Center. I
actually enjoyed a visit to Star Wars Galaxy's Edge at
Disney's Hollywood Studios. If you are a Star Wars fan,
I highly recommend. I had such a great time there,
(00:45):
you know. So you know, you got the Millium Falcon there,
and you got X Wings, and you get the First
Order or the Empire, and they have characters coming out
and they you know, inact, you know, they act out stuff.
They're you know, in front of the crowds, and it's
just so much fun. So highly recommend it. So it
was a fun time, fun week being off. But now
(01:07):
I'm back, uh so, yeah, you know it was. It
was a great time. I wanted to start off by
congratulating Ricky Starks Now Ricky saints he defeated Obafemi at
No Mercy this past weekend to become the brand new
(01:28):
NXT Champion. I mean, it was it was such a
cool moment and it's so well so, so well deserved
for Ricky. I mean, I've you know, I have been
I've known him for you know, known him for ten
years at least, of course, and I called him an
(01:51):
icon of Inspire, Inspire Pro, Inspire ad Inspire Victorious. He's
been an Inspired Pro champion and a pure Prestige chainchampion.
Of course. He's also been the NWA World Television Champion,
one half of the aw World Tag Team Champions, and
now NXT Champion, and you know, just could not be
(02:13):
happier for him. So congratulations Ricky. Hope that title reign
is long and prosperous and we get to see you know,
the full Ricky Saints, Ricky Stark, whatever you want call him.
We get to see the absolute individual that he is,
so fantastic. Did get a press release? Did get sent
(02:38):
out today? Actually it was earlier this morning, I believe,
we do know it is being confirmed. It is official.
The final match for John Cena will take place at
Saturday Night's main event on Saturday, December thirteenth. It will
(03:00):
be at the Capitol One Arena in Washington, d C.
It will be they're gonna do I believe they're gonna do.
Let's see, they're gonna do. Oh, they're gonna do a
live episode of Six Feet Under with the Undertaker on
Friday night. I think they're doing SmackDown that weekend there
(03:25):
as well. Let's see, I'm trying to see if there's anything. Tickets,
by the way, go on sale on October seventeenth at
ten am Eastern. Let's see. That's from first to take. Okay,
it doesn't say, although I would suspect they that's what
(03:46):
they'd been doing here recently, that they're gonna, you know,
kind of they take over a city. So but now
do we do know it? It is official. We do
not know who he will face, but we do know
it will happen on December thirteenth in Washington, D C.
(04:07):
At Saturday Night's main event. So so there you go,
make your planes accordingly. And again, I know there's been
a lot of speculation as to who his final opponent
will be. You know, of course, he's slated to faced
aj Styles at Crown Jewel in Perth, Australia in a
(04:28):
couple of weeks. But yeah, so we'll see. We'll see
who his final final opponent is. I wanted to address
this because of course I was out last week. But
Russell Palooza happened about almost ten days ago. It opened
(04:50):
up with brock Lesnar, or as I said on The
Mark Coke Show, the alleged participant in a sex trafficking
incident involving Janelle Grant and Vincent Man, taking on John Cena.
And it was a pretty one sided affair on the
side of brock Lesner, followed by defeat of John Cena.
(05:15):
And I'll say, why why did they Why did they
decide to do it that way? I I don't know,
never mind everything that comes with bringing in the alleged
participant in a sex trafficking incident involving Vincement Man, Janelle Graham.
(05:40):
Why have John Cena do a job to on a
retirement tour. It makes no sense. There's no story to it,
there's no no anything. It makes no sense. I mean
res Palusa didn't get great reviews anyway. I mean even ESPN,
(06:02):
who you know, carried reala gave it a c and
I'll be honest, I think that was probably I would
have said C minus because it was a It was
pretty pretty much a nothing show. It was interesting, Respaluza
(06:23):
kicked off, you know, they were trying to counter program
against aw all out. Well, they were kicking off about
the same time as the the Reunion the Jurassic Express
when Jungle Boy Jack Perry showed up with the Young
Bucks and then here comes Luchasaurus and there you go.
It just but I don't get it. I don't forget
(06:46):
why you have John Cena take a loss year But
I don't know. It made no sense. I think it
was a it was a stupid move. And I said
this on as well by the way Mark Oke Show
Sunday's ten AM's and in Central eight to ten am
Pacific on Kate on FM in Las Vegas, as well
(07:08):
as all all over the world via the Odyssey app.
I said this, if I didn't know better, it feels
a little like remember back in the twenty tens when
WW was the only show in town and they kind
of got lazy with their booking and it wasn't compelling,
(07:31):
and it was it was just there. I'm not saying
they're that far, but you're starting to see glimpses of that,
and I they I mean it's and it's I mean,
(07:52):
obviously it's different now because yeah, you got AEW, you
got TNA who they have a partnership through NXT. I
get it, what but whatever, you also have Major League Wrestling.
By the way, did you see I think in fact,
I think it was when they were up in the
Metroplex says that Duran made the comment about, you know,
while some companies send their ship their big show to
(08:15):
Saudi Arabia for blood money, you know we're gonna keep
ours here. It was, you know, I don't know, it
just feels like, you know, they are rolling in cash,
so it's kind of like they don't have to try.
I don't know, it's just it's weird. Ah. Let's see
(08:36):
and I'll be honest, SmackDown a raw this week, eh.
I mean, if you're listening to this and you feel
different if you were, if you think they are just
you know, it's just fantastic. Let me know. Send me,
you know, tweet at sgt W, A t X or
(08:57):
Blue Sky, you know, hit me out, let me know
what you think. I'll be honest. I mean, I bounced
back and forth between that and some other stuff I
did not watch. I didn't watch straight through, I mean
caught recaps and stuff. I did make note of a
few few things. Uh, Javon Evans. Good on Javon Evans
(09:22):
answering Sammy z Ain's Challenge US title up and Challenge
had a fantastic match. Of course, Sammy Zein did win.
He won with the Blue Thunderbomb. He never wins with
the Blue thunderbomb, but he won. But it was a
great showing by Javon Evans, who, by the way, is
challenging Leon Slater for the TNA X Division Championship, so
(09:45):
that should be a great match. So good on Javon Evans.
Did you see the main event? So it was Nia
Jack's Jake Cargill and Tiffany Stratton, Tiffany defending the women's
the w d W Women's Championship, and there was a move.
It was Tiffany hit a move on Nia jacks Pender.
(10:11):
The referee counted two and then held up three even
though Nia Jackson didn't kick out. Now a lot of
people are just going nuts about this. Look, I I
get it, but I get the referee knew that wasn't
(10:32):
the finish and she's trying to preserve the finish. Okay,
I get that now. I've talked to referees in the past,
James Beard, who's you know, legendary referee in the NWA,
of course you know, still still works every now and again,
and other referees, and you know, they always told me
(10:57):
that when it comes to being a referee in the
wrestling match, you you count it as if you know
it's real, as if you don't know the finish. So
you know, if if if a move happens and the
person doesn't kick out, you counted, you count three. It's
(11:18):
on the it's on the individual, it's on the wrestler.
So in that sense, I'm kind of going, well, yeah,
the referee and I forget her name, she probably should
have done that. It was a miscommunication, I don't know.
(11:38):
Against Sue. Sounds like it wasn't too big of a deal.
They went on Tiffany Strappancourse, you know, was victorious, She's
gonna face Stephanie McGerr, the women's world champion at Crown Jewel,
So you know it was I guess it was a
big ado about nothing, maybe because there wasn't a whole
(12:02):
lot going on this week. So you know, hey, Monday
night on Raw. Last night saw the return of Roman Rains.
It was the usso's taking on the bron Bronze from
the vision Usso's get the win. And then Bronson, Reid
(12:25):
and bron Breaker attacked the USOS and they're gonna Pamela.
I think if they were setting up for a tsunami.
And and here comes Roman Rains with Jair and beats on
both the bron Bronds, clears the rain and then helps
Jay up and starts telling Jay you're the man, you know,
(12:48):
giving him encouragement. Meanwhile, Jimmy is standing, you know, a
few couple of steps away, and he's watching this. But
Roman isn't even acknowledging Jimmy. He's focused on Jay. Which
I've seen people say, you know, it's going to be
the return of the Bloodline. It's going to do this. Look,
(13:10):
it's hard to capture lightning in the bottle twice. I mean,
it has been well documented throughout the wrestling, you know,
whether it was the n W or you know, the
Horseman or the Bloodline or whatever. It's it's just hard
and I I don't know what they're doing with it.
(13:33):
I don't. I'm not crazy about it. I again, why
do you I say this, why do you want to
turn jay uso heel? But at the same time, the
crowd they treat them, they're still treating them like a
you know, conquering hero, still doing the eating all that
good stuff, you know. Hell, then again they sing Seth's
(13:57):
They sing a long with seth Rawlins's theme song. So
you know, I may just be too old school, but
I'm just not crazy about it. I really am so uh.
And then Eosky, our EO Sky came out at the
beginning show saying, look, we're still family, but you you
(14:18):
know you did me wrong to Oscar and Kyrie Sane.
Here comes Oscar's Kyrie Sane, Well it was Hea. Ripley
came out trying to talk some sense in Eo. Io's
gonna know, they's still my family. I still love them.
Then here comes Kabuki Warriors, and back and forth in
(14:40):
Oscar spews the poison mist into EO's face and there
you go. So it is. You know, it's official. Yosky
has been turned on again. It's and now they're going
to set up it's rear Ripley and Eosky take and
on the Kabuki Warriors at Crown Jewel in Perth. Uh,
(15:05):
that could be fun. That'd be if that could be
a fun match. Let's see how that goes. I got,
in fact, I got some betting odds on what the
on what on the the uh for the current matches
book for Crown Jewel. Let's see Men's Crown Jewel Championship.
(15:30):
The ww Champion Cody Roads taking on the World Heavyweight
Champion Seth Rawlins. Seth Rollins currently at minus seven hundred
or one to seven Cody Roads four to one. Current
odds gives Rolins an eighty seven point five percent likelihood
of winning the match. I think that's probably likely. Cody
(15:50):
won last year, so makes sense. The Women's Crown Jewel
Championship Tiffany Stratton at plus three hundred or three to
one odds. Stephanie vakorup minus five hundred or one to
five odds. Current odds gives Vakour eighty three point three
percent likelihood of winning the match. Again makes sense. You
(16:10):
had lived Morgan winning last year, so why not? And
it says Seth as a heel. Stephanie's the face, so
makes total sense John Cena versus AJ Styles mentioned earlier,
John Cena at minus two thousand, one to twenty odds.
AJ Styles at a plus seven hundred seven to one
(16:31):
odds current odds gives Sena a ninety five point two
percent likelihood of winning the match, which I would think
that makes sense. And then in tag team Real Ripley
EO Sky taking on the Kabuki Warriors, Ria Eo at
a minus fifteen hundred or one to fifteen odds, Oscar
(16:51):
and Kyrie Sine at plus six hundred six to one
odds current odds give Ripley and Sky a ninety three
point eight percent likelihood of winning in the match. We'll
see that one I could I could see where the
Kobuk Warriors would come out victorious if for no other
reason than to extend the extend the feud. So I'm
(17:14):
gonna take quick time out. When I come back, I'll
talk some ae W including the women get to experience
blooding guts. That's next on Sports Guys Talking Wrestling thunder Rosa.
(17:42):
Yes is Putando, Sports Guy's Talking wrestling. This is thunder
Rosa and you're listening to sports Guy Talking wrestling. Welcome
back to Sports guys talking wrestling Stu Myrik here is
I turned my attention to ae W. It was announced
this was that I think after Collision, we are going
(18:05):
to get the first women's Blood and Guts match. It
is scheduled for Wednesday, November twelfth at the First Horizon
Center in Greensboro, North Carolina. Remember that was where they
had Revolution in twenty twenty four Stings final match where
he and Darby Allen retained the AW World Tag Team
(18:26):
titles against the Young Bucks. Right now, it seems like
the Triangle of Terror. I think that's what they're called,
Tekla Julia Hart and Skyblue on one side, Jamie Hayter,
Queen Amanada and Harley Cammon on the other. Now we
know this is this is five on five, so we
(18:46):
will see others get added. There is a there's a
rumor that Tony Storm is going to show up on
Dynamite tomorrow and she will declare for Button Guts. So
we'll see that could be fun though, A women's blood
and Guts match, that could be that could be good.
(19:08):
You know, hey, why not they you know they they
have other matches like that. The women are also getting
their own tag team titles. He was unveiled last week
on Dynamite. Tony Kahan made the announcement and then Renee
Pecatt showed off the belts. They look there their their
exact duplicates of the current men's World Tag Team titles.
(19:31):
That says Women's aw has way too many titles, but
they need women's tag team titles. It makes sense. And
the and the way the roster, the women's roster is
right now, it's it's set, I mean, and and they've
got you know, you got stat Lander and Harley Cameron,
they could be Tame up, Tony Storm, Mina Sheer, Kyleak
(19:54):
team up of course, Julia Blue and Julia Hart and
sky Bloo. You know you've got some you got some
ready made tag teams. It's not like not like when
WWE put it together and they just threw people together.
They've got some ready made tag teams. And I think
it could really be a lot of fun. So looking
(20:14):
forward to see now that they've not unveiled, they've not
you know, revealed how you know what's gonna happen. And
I assume there will be a tournament, but we haven't
heard like when or where, you know, how many teams
are involved whatever, but I'm sure we will get those
details eventually. So, uh, saw, last last week on Dynamite,
(20:37):
Chris Statlander, you know, gets hugged by Wheeler. You to
it looks like Statlander's going to join the Death Riders,
and then she just wallops you to, gets in Moxley's face,
gives him the double Bird, and heads off from the crowd.
So Chris Statlander finally rejecting the Death Writer's invitation. So
(21:03):
that's that's cool. And then kind of in the same
same breath, then here comes Darby Allen with a flamethrower
and he is challenged Moxley to an I Quit match
at Wrestle Dream. Which Wrestle Dream will be October eighteenth
in Saint Louis. By the way, aw won't have to
(21:28):
worry about counterprogramming because you know, Crown, Jewel and Perth.
That's gonna be Saturday morning. That's gonna be that Saturday morning.
I think I saw a start time eight am Eastern,
which will be seven am here and here in the
Central times on here in Texas. You'll be kind of
like watching Formula one. You'll be in early in the morning.
(21:48):
So auh, So October eighteenth, Saint Louis. We'll see if
they can. We'll see if they keep it in the
evening or they move it to the afternoon as well,
because you know, they talked about how they've they've had
success having these, you know, their pay per views in
the afternoon. So we'll see. Uh. Speaking of tomorrow night,
(22:12):
Dynamite the sixth anniversary show, My god has it been
six years now? Sixth anniversary show. I think it's supposed
to be two and a half hours. Of course, ap
me from seven pm Central on TBS and HBO Max
the Rundown right now. So Hologram was supposed to challenge
(22:32):
Kyle Fletcher for the TNT Championship. Hologram has been injured.
Now they did a backstage attack, you know, and so
and so forth. But apparently he's got injuries that are that,
according to Tony Kahan, could keep him out for the rest
of twenty twenty five, which you know again that's the
next three months. I remember they were going to do
(22:54):
this this thing with Kloone. It was going to be
the the bad Hologram. Well, apparently the wrestler that was
supposed to be cloned. He's also injured, so they're probably
gonna put that on the back burner. So it'll be
Orange Cassidy stepping in to challenge Kyle Fletcher for that
tn T Championship. I don't expect Orange to win. Kyle
(23:16):
Fletcher just want it so but it'll be fun. In
Trio's Action, the aw World Tag Team champions Brodido Brody
King Bandido, we'll team up with the one and Only
Kenny Omega to take on the Young Bucks and Josh Alexander.
(23:39):
This will play on the you know, the ongoing rivalry
between Omega and the Bucks. Should be a good match.
Looking forward to it. Uh stemming off what I talked
about at the end of last week's Dynamite Darby Allen,
Chris Statlander will face Wheeler Yuda and Marina Shaffir. You
(24:02):
Mixed Tag Action, you gotta believe Alan Statlander are gonna
get the win, and then of course death Riders will
do what they do. We will see the return of
Jurassic Express jungle Boy Jack Perry Lucasaurus. Now. Perry said
in an interview, expect to see maybe some darker tones
(24:28):
with Jurassic Experience this time. There's still going to be babyfaces,
but you know, a little bit more, a little edge
to them, so but still it will be a lot
of fun to see those two together again. And then
in another trios match, John Moxley, Claudia Casta going get
Daniel Varcia taking on Hangman Adam Page, the AW World
(24:50):
champion in two thirds of the AW World Trios Champions,
Samoa Joe and Powerhouse Hobbs from the ops. That's just
gonna be a just a beat. This is just a
fight and it's gonna be great. So looking forward to that.
A lot of a lot of fun tomorrow night on
Dynamite sixth anniversary crazy but a congratulations Tony kahn aw
(25:16):
six years of providing you know, the we're the best wrestle.
So I'm gonna take quick time out. When I come back,
I will let you know what's happening in invent Wrestling
around the state of Texas. Plus a couple other news
and notes. You're listening to Sports Guys Talking Wrestling. This
(25:43):
is the International King of Swerve Swerve Strickland and this
is Sports Guys Talking Wrestling. Bro. Welcome back to Sports
Guys Talking Wrestling. Stu Myrick here, Happy birthday to the
former aw World Champion, former Wrestle Circus Ring Master Champion,
(26:07):
shanees Or Swerve Strickland. Hope he is enjoying his birthday.
I know he's convalescing from injury, but hopefully he's making
a full and speedy recovery. Hope he gets to enjoy
his birthday. Always enjoyed having him when we had Wrestle's
circuits here. I always talk about how I was his
(26:27):
ride back to the hotel because I was the one
that would always take him to his bank so he
could deposit the money he would get from working wrestle circuits.
He deposited straight into his bank. Hey, he's responsible, got
to give it to him. So but happy birthday, Swerve.
Hope you're enjoying yourself. I got a couple of independent
cards coming up this week in independent wrestling. We will
(26:52):
start with Metroplex Wrestling bringing you success Saturday at the
NPX Arena in Bedford, Bell Times, AMC, Dave Segen, Franko, D'Angelo, LVJ,
and more. That's Metroplex Wrestling this Saturday in Bedford, and
New Texas Pro Wrestling has we Know Ball Sunday at
the Empire Control Room Magarrage in downtown Austin Bell time
(27:16):
six pm Central. The Bounty Hunter Brian Keith will be there.
One called manders Maya World, Thomas Shire and more. That's
new Texas Pro Wrestling this Sunday, right here in the
beautiful at X. And that's to look at independent wrestling
around the state of Texas. Wherever you may be, go
out and support independent wrestling. Couple of notes. TNA had
(27:42):
Victory Road this past weekend and in development ash By Elliance.
You may have remembered her from ww's Dane Brook. She
relinquished the Knockouts World Championship at Victory Road. I mentioned
that she needs to take time. She's actually stepping away
from wrestling now. This happened on I think Friday or Saturday.
(28:08):
I I've checked, I've checked reports, checked the usual sights.
I have not seen anything as far as like what
you know, uh, what you know? Why? Uh it doesn't
seem I haven't seen anything as far as an injury.
It could be, could be burnout, it could be anything.
(28:30):
I mean, I hope, I hope whatever it is, she can,
you know, find that point where she can enjoy, you know,
come back because she's a great great wrestler said that
she had to give up the Knockouts World title, so
they set up that night Klonnie Jordan from NXT and
(28:55):
lay Ye lay Ying Lee to battle for the vacant title,
and it ends up Kilanie Jordan winning the Knockouts World titles,
so the Knockouts title back in an NXT wrestler's hands,
which that will feed to this whole TNA NXT invasion thing.
We saw it last week on NXT. The TNA roster,
(29:17):
you know, filling the ring and beating up on the
NXT wrestlers. She is going to defend. By the way,
Klanie Jordan will defend the Knockouts World title against Indy
Hartwell at Bound for Glory. Of course, they're big show
October twelfth in Lowell, Massachusetts that's come up. There's also
(29:37):
going to be where Trick Williams defends the TNA World
title against Mike Santana. You're going to see the Hardy
Boys or the Hardys and Team three D the Dudleys
in a tables match, kind of the one final confrontation
between arguably the two greatest, two of the greatest tag
teams ever. That should be a lot of fun. So
(29:58):
looking forward to see what happen. That's next weekend too, wow,
So I'll give you a quick preview of that next
week Newspan Pro Wrestling. Zach Saber Junior defeated Ren Narrita
at Destruction in Kobe on Saturday to retain the IWGP
World Hivyweight Championship. So now he goes on to King
(30:21):
of Pro Wrestling in Tokyo on Monday, October thirteenth, where
he will defend against the winner of the g One
Climax Kuonuski Takeshta, also of AEW. This is the second
year in the row that the the g One winner
cashes in before Wrestle Kingdom. Remember they did that the
(30:45):
same thing last year. But nevertheless, Zach Saber Junior and
the Konuski Takeshta on Monday October thirteenth, so about two
weeks little two weeks from yesterday in Tokyo for the
IWGP World Heavyweight Championship. That should be That should be
(31:05):
a good one. That could be something worth watching. That'll
do it for this week's sports guys talking wrestling. You
can follow me on all social media at stumeric that's
stew m Y r I c K. You can follow
