Speaker 1 (00:00):
When they're not covering the sports world, they're talking about
the world or professional wrestling. It's sports guys talking wrestling.
Now here's Stu Myrick. It is sports guys talking wrestling.
Stu Myrick here apologize for usually these drop Tuesdays Wednesday.

(00:24):
And well, I've come to kind of a epiphany. I
guess that's the best way to put it. And you
saw that if you're on social media, saw the tagline
that sports guys talking wrestling. He's going on hiatus and
here's why. And it it came to me. I was

(00:48):
watching the clip from Wrestling Observer Live a couple of
days ago, Brian Alvarez and Lance Storm, and they were
talking about the the main event picture on Monday Night
Raw where you have el A Knight see him punk
Jay Uso all wanting to face Seth freaking Rawlins for

(01:15):
the World Heavyweight Championship, and it was and Brian alvaresk,
you know, it's so funny. So you know back, you know,
a few ago, well, let's say a year ago two.
You know, I always had Mike Sipperviv who was also
a part of that show for a long time, and
I always refer to him as the voice of reason

(01:36):
for Wrestling Observer Alive. Because while Brian makes great points,
don't get me wrong, he gets emotional by it's you know,
sometimes he goes off, but this one I couldn't agree
more so. As I said, jay Uso seem punk Elle Knight.
They're on the ring now, they're all supposed to be babyfaces,

(02:00):
and yet they're all acting kind of healish, and we're
starting to see this, you know, more and more healish
stuff from jay Uso, La Knights trying to be that
tweeer a lah Stone cold, you know, seeing punks just
beloved and and Brian was kind of you know, he

(02:24):
put out the question who were we supposed to cheer for?
And it got me to thinking. So, you know, if
you in case you didn't know, I'm fifty seven years old.
I have been watching wrestling since nineteen eighty first time

(02:45):
I ever saw Mid South wrestling. Back then it was
the rat Pack with Teddy Biassi and Hacksaw Jim Duggan,
and then you had the babyfaces like the Junkyard Dog
and you know other others, And back then it was

(03:09):
there was a clear line. You had the baby you
had the good guys, you had the bad guys, and
wrestling was always framed, at least then as the struggle
between good and evil acted out in the wrestling ring.
You look at World Class, which you know, I also
grew up on the Von Eerics and the Freebirds there

(03:30):
that that was it. You know, Chris Adams who was
sat on both sides with a baby face and then
turned heel, joined up with Gino Hernandez. Even looking at
at you know, the old w w F, Huh Cogan
and Roddy Piper, you know, uh, Jim Crockett Promotions, the

(03:51):
Horsemen and the Russians and then on the other side
Dusty and the Rock and Roll Express and you know,
uh it was you always had the good guys, the
baby faces, and you booed the heels, and you know,
and it was it was set up that way. Then

(04:11):
you get to the mid nineties, w CW introduces the
nWo and now we get introduced to the cool heel,
and the fans gravitate to the cool heels of the
nWo and to another extent, WWF had D Generation X

(04:36):
and they were cool kind of heels, but the eventually
they turned babyface, and then you know, and then that
you know, that ended, you know, in two thousand and one,
of course WWF buys WCW changes to WWE, and then

(04:58):
for you know, for almost almost two decades, you had
WWE that was yeah, you had Ring of Honor, you
had TNA, but those were never going to reach the
success of ww and ww got lazy and their booking
was kind of just you know, headshaking sometimes. Fast forward

(05:21):
all that to now October twenty twenty five, and this
is something I've noticed over the last few years watching
whether it's well, it's been a lot of it's been
Monday Night Raw, and it's back then a lot of

(05:41):
it's been WWE. There is a little bit in AW
as well. Fans don't cheer baby faces boot heels as
much anymore. It's more of you just like somebody. And
even if you do, even if they are heels, you
still their songs. It's it's like it's like the Rocky

(06:02):
Horror Picture Show, you know, you know, moviegoers would act
out everything, whether they liked him or not, they acted out,
you know. And nowadays everybody sings seth Rowlins theme song,
and he's a heel. Everybody does the whole thing. With
Paul Haymon. He's a heel and it's gotten to where

(06:27):
it's it's not it's not good versus evil anymore. Even
and I'll say even in AW things are cloudy. You
got Samoa Joe taking on Hangman Page at wrestled Dream
for the world title. Again, who am I supposed to

(06:47):
cheer for? I mean, I think Hayman Page is baby face,
But then and so is Samoa Joe of course, one
third of the AW World Trios Champions with powerhouse hobs
and cuts through a Shabbata, and then you've got you know,
and then it so on top of that, it feels

(07:08):
like we just want heat, lots of heat, like the
don Kallis family. Now you've got who's it just came?
Oh Andrade came back and joined the don Kallis family.
And then they added Clone, the evil evil hologram. I mean,

(07:32):
and it's getting it's almost silly. It feels a little like,
you know, the the kind of the the beginning of
the end of the nWo when when you had half
of the half of the roster in WCW was nWo.
And it's like just I don't know, and I think

(07:56):
part of it is simple fact. I'm just it's it's
not interesting right now. Nothing is captivating me. It's you
got the death Writers, who I you know, I have
criticized constantly on this show, on The More Coke Show.

(08:18):
I really thought that when Moxley lost the world title
to Hangman Page at All in Texas, I thought we
would start to see the disillusion of the death Writers.
But no, instead you brought you got pock Back. You've

(08:39):
added Daniel Garcia, so the death Writers are stronger than ever.
I just I don't know. I'm it's I am. I
have always been the guy that cheers for the good guys.

(09:02):
I had a I took a trip to Orlando a
few weeks ago to visit Star Wars Galaxy's Edge at
Disney's Hollywood Studios, which was fantastic. I loved it. It
was wonderful. Now I have watched I am, I am.
I'm one of those that I have seen every movie
in the theater, including the first one, A New Hope.

(09:28):
And I've always been on the side of the Jedis.
I always bow Darth Vader and Kylo Wren and you know, so, uh,
you know, I I'm that guy and look and I
get it. Wrestling fans nowadays, that's not the case. And

(09:53):
I think it's there's a there's a wave of it
in society as well. Like I I was watching something
they're talking about Walt Disney World and what they're planning,
you know, the plans for the future. And in fact,
I saw a little bit of it, you know, saw

(10:14):
a little bit while I was there, where they are
planning to build out alack a villains area, well where
you will hear the different Disney stories from the side
of the villains, and I'm going, but they're villains, they're

(10:34):
bad guys. You're not supposed to want to be like
the bad guys. And yet they they're gonna do that.
And I get that. Fans, will you know, grab it?
I mean, and I see it. I've seen it at

(10:56):
I've seen it inspire when I would do commentary. There
are no more you know, pure good guys, bad guys.
It's all gray area and it muddies the waters. And again,
today's wrestling fans may enjoy it, and that's great. I'm

(11:19):
glad you do. I'm not enjoying it. And I think
that in order for me to enjoy wrestling again, I
need to take a break from it. I mean, I
find myself nowadays even I don't watch all of Raw
or SmackDown or Dynamite. I rarely watch Collision. I'll check

(11:44):
in on it every now and again. I don't watch TNA.
T and A is great product. They got Bound for
Glory coming up this weekend. I don't. I haven't watched
a full episode of NXT in months. I'm just I
don't know. It's it's not it's not as captivating for

(12:11):
me as it once was. So all that to say,
I'm I've decided that sports guys talking wrestling will take
a hiatus. It won't be I mean, it's not. We're
not going down. It's in. The show will be back.
I don't know when. It's one of those things. I

(12:34):
gotta step away from it so I can find out
why I miss it. And look, I'll still keep tabs
on you know what's happening. I'll probably check in on Brawl.
You got a Crown jewel this this week Saturday Saturday
morning from Perth, Australia. So it's it comes on Saturday

(12:56):
morning eight am Eastern. That's seven am here. Little little
like Formula one when they're out and about except for
a couple of weeks when they're here in Austin for
the United States Grand Prix. Usually on Sundays, you wake
up and there's Formula ones on television. That's kind of

(13:19):
the way this is feeling is with you know, with
this Crown Jewel and this card. I mean it's there's
I think as of now, there are five matches on
the card. You've got the two, you know, the two

(13:39):
matches to determine the Crown Jewel Championship for men and women,
Cody Roads versus Seth Rollins, Cody Roads WW champions, Seth
Rowlins World Tavyweight Champion, and then the Women's Crown Jewel
Championship Tiffany Stratton WW Women's Champion, Stephanu Recur the Women's

(14:00):
world Champion. Right by the way, betting odds as of
I guess two days ago, Seth Rawlins and Stephanie Verkerr
are you know the odds are in their favor. Not
a big stretch, but they are. Then you got Johnson

(14:22):
Universus AJ Styles, Bronson Reed takes on Roman Rings in
Australian Street Fight and then in tag action the Kabuki
Warriors Oscar and Kyrie Sane taking on Rear, Ripley and
Io Sky and it's you know, so the end. It's
in Perth, Australia. And look, I'm sure the fans there

(14:44):
in Perth will have a blast. But this isn't a
this isn't a show I need to see. I mean,
I'll catch the highlights. I'll probably read the review on
Wrestling Observer Fight FORU or something, but it's not it's
not one of those that I have to see, you know,

(15:08):
because it makes it. I would think seth Rawlins will
probably win because Cody won last year. And I think
Stephanie Vaker will win just because the momentum is on
her side. I think John Cena will beat aj Stiles.
I think it'll be a great match. That one I
might I might actually check in on. But yeah, Roman

(15:32):
Rains is gonna be Bronson reed just because Rumman Rains
doesn't lose matches like that, Kabuki Warriors and Ripley and
Ria and Neo, that one that one feels like the
betting odds are heavy in the favor of Riha Neo,
But I don't know that one feels like one that

(15:53):
could go could go either way. So but again, I
I have no real there's nothing that says I need
to tune in at seven am on the ESPN app
to watch that. So yeah, I'm not sure. I'll I'm

(16:13):
not sure I'll buy Wrestle Dream and i'll I've always
bought the aw pay per views unless I get to go,
like you know, All in Texas or Revolution last year.
But yeah, you know, I don't think. I don't know.
I haven't decided yet. So all that say, as I said, so,

(16:36):
this show will go on hiatus for a bit, as
it will be back. I don't know when it may.
I may turn around next week and say, okay, so
much for the hiatus. But I got a feeling I'm
gonna take a few weeks. And part of its simple
fact I'm enjoying. So again, I think if you've listened

(17:00):
to the show, I've mentioned that I retired at the
end of August from my career in state government here
in Texas, and I'm enjoying my retirement. I've got a
trip coming up beginning towards the first part of November
to Monterey, California for alumni weekend for the Defense Language Institute,

(17:24):
which I attended when I was in the army to
learn Russian. I took a break when I went to Orlando,
so so yeah, I'm gonna take a break. We'll see
how long it goes. What I would say is stay
tuned to the socials and I yeah, I don't do
social media that much. I'll put out pictures if I'm traveling,

(17:50):
but you know, other than that, but yeah, check out
the socials. Keep an eye on that, and that's where
you'll find out when Sports Guys Talking Wrestling resumes putting
out episodes. So that's gonna do it for this edition

(18:10):
of Sports Guys Talking Wrestling. As I said, make sure
you follow follow the show on X at SGTWATX, find
the show on Facebook, Instagram, Blue Sky, and YouTube. So
just search Sports Guys Talking Wrestling again. Enjoy the wrestling

(18:33):
and I'll check it out here in a little bit,
you know, every now and again. Otherwise, have a great
week and sometime eventually once again I will see you
at the matches. Good Bye, good it five
