Speaker 1 (00:00):
You're listening to Star Wars Splash Page Comics in Review.
Speaker 2 (00:05):
This is episode number four hundred and fifty seven. Code Jeff.
Speaker 1 (00:14):
Stage Spin made I'm hoping gonna as beer fo park On.
I don't want sets running the gas seas. I'm Matt, uh,
(00:37):
but what was that? Listen?
Speaker 2 (00:39):
He said, we're breaking the code.
Speaker 1 (00:42):
Oh, yes, we're breaking the code. I always break the code.
That's only because I can't be trusted with codes. It's true.
Speaker 2 (00:51):
I've heard about this.
Speaker 1 (00:53):
Yes, I am the loose lips that sink ships.
Speaker 2 (00:59):
Gotta love it even.
Speaker 1 (01:00):
All right, folks, we have we have two books to
discuss this week. From dark Horse we have Star Wars
Hyperspace Stories, Codebreaker number two, and for Marvel we have
Jedi Knights number five. And I have a couple of
questions about that Jedi Knights book, Matt. I'm sure you'll
be able to answer them, or at least make something up.
But before we dive into that, Matt, what kind of
news have we got?
Speaker 2 (01:22):
We got a lot of news actually, Oh, it's pretty
kind of intriguing. First and foremost, a lot of a
lot of news out of dark Horse. Actually, first and foremost,
the Star Wars Young Jedi Adventures comics that we've seen
for the past two Free Comic Book Day from dark Horse,
well those are going to be collected along with a
third news story by dark Horse in a hardcover collection
(01:48):
that's do out in November, and it's called Star Wars
Young Jedi Adventures The Training Sessions, And of course it's
written by Dave Shite and Daniel jose Older, and it's
illustrated by Andy Dugan, Dan Jackson and Comic Craft, and
it's Jedi Younglings, Kai Lese and Nubs Nubs Nation, and
(02:08):
so looking forward to that. You can see the details
on that on the Facebook and Blue Sky feeds. It
looks like the upcoming round of trade paper for backs
collecting Marvel's new comic series you know, such as Jedi Knights,
Legacy of Vader, and ostensibly Star Wars. In addition to
(02:30):
their six issue arcs and five issue arcs, they will
also be collecting the Free Comic Book Day twenty twenty
five stories tied to their respective characters. We are getting
another Hyperspace Stories original graphic novel. Dark Horse has put
out solicit details for Hyperspace Stories Grievous, and it's due
(02:52):
out right now on January thirteen. It's written being written
by Michael Moretzi with art by Ko Philippe and colors
by Dan Jackson, with letters by Comic Wrap, and the
main cover is by Michael Show. And here's the great
thing is the artist mister Phelippe has teased some of
his work on that book on his Instagram feed, and
(03:17):
one of the images is of Count Dooku and I
got to tell you, I'm going to be seeing that
one in my nightmares, so I mean, you know, it's
just you know, it's all black and white stuff. You know,
it hasn't been colored yet, but it looks superer, so
you know, you can check out you can check those
images out on the Facebook page as well as well
(03:37):
as the Blue skylinks. And then we are getting the
Hyperspace Stories Tides of Terror tray paperback, which is going
to be collecting before issue mini series. It starts, I
believe at the end of July, and that is going
to be coming out March seventeenth. You know, bear in mind, obviously,
(03:58):
you know, publication dates can and do change, so you know,
definitely don't be surprised if those dates get pushed up.
But It's nice that we're slowly but surely getting these
hyperspace stories, original graphic novels. You know, they tease like
what eight or nine of them I think at New
York Comic Con back in twenty twenty three, and to date,
you know, we've only gotten Obi Wan, so you know,
(04:21):
but I think the next one do Up is I
think makes Window, So that should be intriguing. Tangentially related
to Star Wars comics, Jim Shooter died today. I saw
that from esophageal cancer. If you are a casual comics reader,
(04:41):
if you're a hardcore comics reader, you've probably heard the
name Jim Shooter. If you were a Marvel kid in
the eighties like I was, you definitely know who Jim
Shooter is because he pretty much shaped the industry and
the millie you know, in his time as editor in
chief at Marvel Comics. Uh you know, he he is
(05:04):
the one who helped Marvel start the epic line of
creator owned titles.
Speaker 1 (05:08):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (05:09):
You know, he shepherded uh you know, Secret Wars. Uh.
He helped facilitate the creation of Spider Man's Black Suit,
which ended up becoming you know, the Venom symbiote. Uh.
You know, and he also oversaw some incredible runs like
the Chris Claremont John Byrne runs on Uncanny X Men. Uh.
He's the guy who demanded the death of Gen Gray
(05:29):
as the Phoenix. Uh you know, you know, to atone
for her for Phoenix's crimes. Uh. So Uh. And then
he helped launch the uh the short lived but what
I thought was really well done uh New Universe series
of titles for creators. Uh. He was instrumental in introducing
royalties at Mark at Marvel.
Speaker 1 (05:51):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (05:52):
But you know, like all people, he's he was complicated.
He was he had some very very good points. He
had some very very bad points.
Speaker 1 (06:01):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (06:01):
And you know, you either loved him or hated him.
They're really you know, there was kind of a gray area.
You know, he did have some issues that I disagreed
with on a person on the level not involving comics.
But here's the thing is, it's the guy knew how
to tell a story.
Speaker 1 (06:16):
You know.
Speaker 2 (06:16):
It's a Pittsburgh native, and he broke into comics at
the age of fourteen because he was in the hospital
as a teenager and was very upset with you know,
it's just he was baffled that d C was not
at the level of Marvel in the mid sixties. And
you remember, you know, that was Marvel's silver age, you know,
(06:36):
that was you know, stan Lee, Jack Kirby, Steve didco.
Speaker 1 (06:40):
And they were all fire cylinders.
Speaker 2 (06:42):
Yeah. Yeah, So he wrote DC comics and Mort Weisinger
hired him, not realizing that the kid was only fourteen,
you know, and Jim and Jim Shooter did a really
good you know, did a lot of good storytelling on
the Legion of Superheroes, which is one of my favorite
DC teams. So, but after he left Marvel, uh, you know,
because of his prickly relationship, you know, with with the creators. Uh,
(07:04):
you know, particularly his micromanaging managing style. Uh. You know,
he he formed he later foreigned Valiant Entertainment, which you know,
and he helped co create characters Bloodshot, shadow Man, Exo,
Man of War, Harbinger and Archer and Armstrong. Uh you know,
and he he was just he was in and of
the industry. So and you know, it's a it's you know,
(07:29):
it's safe to say that he was he was one
of the giants, and he was actually a giant. He
was incredibly tall, I mean, like amazingly tall. So yeah,
he's suffering no more and you know, may he rest easy.
He's definitely left the mark mark on the medium. So
uh yeah, kind of a bummer, but so yeah, and uh,
(07:54):
that's kind of basically it for now. That's that's kind
of all the news. But the exception of one last thing. Uh,
there is a lettered preview of July thirtieth, The High Republic,
Phase three, the finale, one shot you know, about four pages.
Looks pretty good. Definitely check it out. It's gonna win
your whistle of your fan of The High Republic.
Speaker 1 (08:16):
All right, well, thank you for that, Matt, for that rundown.
We will take a short break. We'll be back to
discuss from Dark Horse Hyperspace Stories code Breaker number two.
Speaker 2 (08:26):
Looking forward to that.
Speaker 1 (08:32):
You know, Matt, I realized it's been well over a
month since we got the last one of these, hasn't it.
Speaker 2 (08:38):
It has been yeah, yeah, and unfortunately it's gonna it's
gonna it's been spaced out. You know that there's been
a couple of delays for the third and fourth issue.
You know, not not too long, but you know, like
two or three weeks later, than they're initially solicited. So
but it's worth the way. It's a nicely well went
one story so far, and I'm liking what we're saying
it is.
Speaker 1 (08:57):
But I really do think this is gonna be one
of those stories that will benefit it from the trade
paperback collected version because this issue, as I mentioned before
we started this issue is jam packed with action, even
though not a lot happens, and it's just a really
really cool kind of a action packed mini story about Podamren,
(09:23):
and I'm really enjoying it. Really this this cover reminds
me a lot of like the gold Key comics of
the sixties.
Speaker 2 (09:33):
It does, doesn't it to me?
Speaker 1 (09:35):
It does? I don't know something about the way it's,
the way it's shaded, and the the way that there's
not a lot of harsh lines. It's all sort of
almost to a mirror finish. I just I really like it.
Speaker 2 (09:47):
I agree the moments. It's a great cover. And of
course this is by Diego Golndo. This is Hyperspace Stories Codebreaker,
Part two of four, a desperate escape written by our
guy Ethan Sachs, penciled by Mark Yarza, inked by jose Marson, Jr.
Colored by Nicola Rihey and lettered by commocrats Tyler Smith
and Jimmy Baiton. Court for Dark Horses, publisher is Mike Richardson,
(10:09):
the editor Spencer Cushing. Assistant editor is Joe Cavanaugh, designer
is Rebecca See, Digital art technician is aj Newell. Pre
press is Jake Johnson, and from Lucasfilm we get creative
director Michael Siglane, Editor Grace Artist, Senior editor Robert Simpson,
art director Troy Alders, creative art manager Phil Shostack, and
from the story group it's Matt Martin, Pavel Hidalgo, and
(10:31):
Emily Scukhani. So at the end of the UH first issue,
Poe is undercover, so to speak. He's at the First
Order Command base at the Narcaga City and he has
found the codebreaker, which, despite with the cover shows is immune,
not immune but immune im un uh and apparently a child. Yeah,
(10:56):
And Poe's like, so wait, let me get this straight.
You're the codebreaker device, Well, that would be technically inaccurate.
My name is Cheka. I am a kid, a kid
who could interpret patterns in the cryptic communications and break
down those ciphers into numbers. But checking then process Africet,
I asked, and it should be noted that check is
you know, it seems to be sporting, you know, basically
you know, the low bought headband. So so it's helping.
(11:19):
And you know, of course Poe's like Afriget, I asked,
And there.
Speaker 1 (11:22):
I'm guessing that's why they can check I can can
do all the things that they can do.
Speaker 2 (11:27):
Exactly. I have imagined that it's it's you know, it's
augmenting Checker's abilities. Behind Poe is BB eight, who is
is uh camouflaged if you will? And I'm doing air
quotes as the first start Detroid and you know, and
and BBA is like, no, no, we stick to the
basic plan. We get the codebreaker back to the resistance
(11:48):
while we still have the element of surprise. And this
post says that the alarm sounds woo okay, the new plan.
Come on, this is the way to the exit. So
Poe grabs CHECKA and you know, and it's great because
CHECKA is very literal. With all due respect podemm and
as I have never been personally involved in the escape before, uh,
(12:08):
there is a low probability that the most direct path
and a heavily fortified tower is unguarded. Uh and postly. Look,
I'll have you both know that everything is under control.
I can pass as a first order secure, first order
officer and talk our way out of here. I'm actually
quite charming, bing swoosh uh. And then the elevator doors
open and it's three first order troopers. That's no officer,
that's the intruder, you know. So they start, you know,
(12:31):
firing at them and checka is you know, I am
growing increasingly skeptical of your ability to talk our way
out of here. We're gonna need a new plan, says Poh. Fire, fire, fire,
And they're you know, they're running through the halls, and
we get some nice little design elements in the background
here that sort of, you know, evoke the Death Star,
you know, with the with the vertical light shafts and panels.
(12:52):
There should be another way out over here. Oh, come on,
who puts a wall in the middle of a perfectly
good hallway? The wall is clearly necessary to maintain the
enormous weight of the reinforcement titanium.
Speaker 1 (13:05):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (13:05):
You could enlighten those stormtroopers with your theories in our
on architecture, But I'm guessing they're not in the mood either,
and so they turn around and then Poe just has
his hands up. The troopers show up. This is all
in us understanding, So yeah, I'm a first order officer.
And then Cheka throws a thermal detonator and says, perhaps
you will find heat dynamics of more interest. Uh and
(13:28):
you see this the troopers, this is a great panel.
They're kind of looking up at the thermal detonator and
then the next panel is a kaboo.
Speaker 1 (13:35):
It's shattering kaboom. And yeah, we find out that.
Speaker 2 (13:38):
That is that is great letters, great lettering by Yeah
bye by Tyler, Bye by Tyler and Jimmy there.
Speaker 1 (13:45):
It was exactly the right amount of each letter to
to get the point across. I love it. And uh
he says that they calculated a fairly a fairly safe
point at which to center the explosion, and uh so,
of course they get be set upon by more stormtroopers
and BB eight takes off because he has an idea.
(14:05):
And I love this because you see what he does
is he runs up one of the one of the
dead and or stunned stormtroopers and does a backflip and
knocks two of them, the other two over which cracked
me up. I thought it was awesome. And so from
he he leaves, and so Poe and check A run
(14:26):
the other direction. Checka says, is it too late to
return me to the relative safety of my cell? And
the next thing we see is an imperial officer, sorry,
a first order officer, telling the troopers to set a
perimeter every at every exit. Those resistance spis will not
get past us on my watch. Meanwhile, BB eight is
just rolling through with that his hat on. It looks
(14:49):
like a fez and he says, what's our target, sir,
And the guest says, it must be an elite squad
of commandos to have breached this heavily secured tower. And
it looks like there's one stormtrooper w watching BB eight.
And then in the next panel he's looking at the
others going did we just.
Speaker 2 (15:06):
Uh uh?
Speaker 1 (15:08):
Because the guy says, we must presume they've been planning
this hikes down in the smallest detail for a long time,
and we know for certain that Poe was just flying
by the seat of his pants.
Speaker 2 (15:15):
Oh yeah, and this and that is and that's that's
you know, that is supremely well drawn.
Speaker 1 (15:19):
So yeah, yeah, and so the of course Poe has
led them to a dead end, to a window, and
they're shooting at the the the troopers that are coming
after them, and he tells them they're pinned out or
they're pinned down by the upper windows on the northern
face of the tower. And BB says something. He says,
are you sure? I mean, are you really sure? Then
he says do you trust me? Checka not particularly, but
(15:42):
just follow my lead. He says, you do not need
to be a mathematical prodigy to deduce this is a
poorly thought out strategy. And right as she says that,
they they jump out the.
Speaker 2 (15:51):
Window exactly and then the First Order troopers, Uh, who's
going to explain this one to the captain? You mean,
how we accidentally let the First to Orders prized codebreaker
plummet to her death. Uhh, And they haven't, you know,
they find it on an outcropping of a balcony down
the tower.
Speaker 1 (16:08):
This is called back to the Empire strikes Back when
Luke flies out the when the invader are fighting on clouds.
Speaker 2 (16:14):
It is yeah, but you know it's a subtle nod
and I like that, so yeah, uh, you know, do
not worry about me. I'm in satisfactory condition. And Poe
looks at bba C. I told you that I would
get it out of this mess. Of course I meant
we would get ourselves out of this mess. And then,
of course, you know, check us as I would not
break up this celaboratory blue milk. Just yet another one
of your poorly fought out stratagems might be in order
(16:35):
first and then that's you know, we cut through the decimator,
which is the first order star destroyer.
Speaker 1 (16:42):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (16:42):
And you know it's just you know, we see the
Banshee of Bestine. Look, it's the Banshee of Bestine. We
saw the Banshie. Last issue, I heard he took out
the whole Republic, the whole Republic patrol by himself in
the Battle of your Tangy. I heard it was a
whole squadron. Now, now, my comrades, you know how these
victories can sometimes get distorted in the retailing. It was
two squadrons that year, TANGI and I could use a
(17:03):
drink after wiping out another batch of resistance scum today.
And then, as you know, the bandshe is you know
saying this, we hear a clap clap, clap, hey.
Speaker 1 (17:14):
And so this guy, okay, so this guy. Do we
know what kind of trooper this guy is because he
looks like one of the Crimson Vipers from G I.
Speaker 2 (17:20):
Joe. He does anybody else. He also brings to mind,
you know, the character of Cardinal from the FAsMA novel.
But you know, and you know, of course, you know
what an impressive accomplishment that would have been had you
actually taken out all of those pilots. A Major von
rag always a pleasure to listen to the second best
(17:41):
pilot at the first order drone on and on about
in case you on about this time you can't.
Speaker 1 (17:48):
See anyone needed, reminding that the empire is full of
people who are just out for themselves and have no
sense of camaraderie or teamwork or anything. And of course
the Crimson Viper or whatever whatever the name is, Major
von Regg says, you know, basically this is I took
the liberty of checking the camera feeds and hearsed to
be a flyer by the name of Poe Damn Run.
(18:10):
And he says, perhaps he's uh, he's able to a
pilot that would be able to potentially fake a crash
and perhaps out smart and unobservant opponent, and of course
run I'd like to, I'd like to, I.
Speaker 2 (18:21):
Would like to break in. I like how they have
drawn this because you see Poe on the data pad
so and it looks almost realistic. It does. Yeah, so
the bansheet just you know, storms out. Meanwhile, back on
Narcaga City, you know they.
Speaker 1 (18:36):
Have they're a coming here to a big like a
speed or a transport of some sort.
Speaker 2 (18:41):
Yeah, and of course bb BB eight is driving go straight.
You're not supposed to fly to the walls. Whoop woop.
Of course I could do better. I'm the pilot. You're
just a come on. That was on purpose. As BB
eight slides up against the wall, you know, and then
you know, a first Order trooper pulls up on a bike,
pull over to the side. Whoop woop, that's not what
I meant. As the speeder bike goes flying, as does
(19:01):
the first Order trooper, and then we get a nice
two page spread here, you know of check out with
her head down in the back of the transport, you know,
and the Poe is firing at the First Order troopers
giving chase on their speeder bikes. Keep your head down, CHECKA,
is this how your rescue missions usually go? This one
is actually going better than most. And then Checka starts
(19:23):
doing the calculations, make a sharp left up ahead, and
then an immediate rite that will take us in into
a bankment, which should give us some extra cover for
blaster fire for at least two clicks. I could get
possibly know that, asks Poe. I process the layout of
the city when they brought me in on the prisoner
transport of course, oh, and you know it's effective. Although
one of the troopers does manage to make a leap
(19:44):
off of their bike onto the transport, and Poe turns
are like, huh, I suppose this first order officer disguise
is still working, And of course the trooper pulls out
you know, the little stun cannon that we saw in
the Force Awakens movie Battle of Moscanada's Castle. I didn't
think so so uh, and the guy strikes Poe out.
Speaker 1 (20:08):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (20:09):
And then the first story a troopers like the skiff
is being operated by an astro mech I'll take control
over and Bba's like nah blat and electrocutes him and
the trooper goes, oh no, and we see a pen
of clearly some sort of domesticated animals, and the trooper
goes flying into them and they are large and it's
(20:30):
puffer pigs. No who buys puffer pigs in the market.
No matter, I can apprehend you without my colleague. WHOA,
that was too close, And Poe tries to kick the
other trooper. Well, that was a tactical mistake in your
over confidence. You have allowed me to get between you
and the droid. Now I'll knock you off the back
of the skiff, incapacitate the astromach, and take the girl
back into custody and just post just I'll have you know,
(20:55):
my confidences quite justifiable. I got you to turn your
back so you don't see the low clearan skate rapidly approaching.
Do you expect me to fall for that? That's kind
of the point. And yet crunch and as they're exiting
the compound in the city, Jeka says that rescue was
not completely inept. Poe, I'll take that as a compliment. Checka. Meanwhile,
(21:17):
back on the Echo of Hope at the resistance command ship,
Leah is talking to snap Uh. Poe is in more trouble,
even more trouble than he usually is, we have to
send reinforcements immediately. General Leia, I have no intentionally big
pilot behind, but we'll need some diplomatic help if we're
going to enter Hut space with fighters. Patrick threw to
(21:37):
the regional governor's office and we got you know, so Leah.
Leah brings up the governor scoor Sean, I am reaching
out to you by a pilot who contacted you before
admission to car to Narcaga. I have been a party
to no con to no such contact, and it is
outrageous to suggest otherwise. The New Republic has a standing
treaty with the Huts, and I will not do anything
(21:58):
to risk breaking that degree. Click and he hangs up.
And I was like, well, that could have gone better.
And then you know, snaps like the governor did make contact.
She was lying apparently so, and that means Poe Dammer
is an even greater danger than I feared, says Leah.
We cut back to Poe and he's just all right,
(22:19):
they've cleared, They've gone to his X wing and he's
just like hurry. The x wee get is just ahead,
and Beabie's like whoop, whoop woop then go faster. Whoop whoop.
Now that's just rude. Ah there right where we left it.
She's a bit dinged up, but we'll be able to
get to the nearest republic. Ooh and Jacka says that noise,
it sounds like an ion take cover and yeah, it's
three tie fighters, including ostensibly what might be or who
(22:42):
might be the banshee of best team and kaboom, Poe
has lost another X wing. So and they get down
and then we see the troopers on the ground fan out.
They must be hiding somewhere in this area. Okay, if
anyone has a new plan, I'm open to suggestions. And
BBA says black and we gotta to be continued. So yeah,
(23:03):
rapidly based, very quick, and very funny.
Speaker 1 (23:08):
This one would make And I keep saying this, and
I keep hoping that Marvel slash Disney will listen. This
would make a great like animated film, like you know
the DC animated movies that they do that run between
you know, an hour and fifteen an hour and a half.
Speaker 2 (23:24):
Oh, it'll be perfect for those I agree whole heartedly.
I love it. So we'll see if that happens.
Speaker 1 (23:29):
We will, I really enjoyed this one, and we got
got a really cool cover for next next, the next
issue as well, So a lot of fun. We'll be back.
I will take a short break. We'll be back to
discuss Jedi Knights number five along with my question.
Speaker 2 (23:43):
Okay, that's good, all.
Speaker 1 (23:49):
Right, Jedi Knights number five and this is an ongoing
Ish series, correct, Matt, Yes, okay, I really liked it.
That's not my question. So we get a really cool
cover with newt gun ray, Count Douku Yaddle and her
apprentice whose name escapes me, Sira Longa. Yes, and uh,
(24:14):
there's a nice salt and pepper in Douku's hair because
this all takes place, you know, quite a bit before
we met him an Attack of the Clones. However, we
open on Corussants shortly after the Battle of Naboo, and
I'm assuming this is the Battle of Naboo that takes
place at the end of the Phantom Menace.
Speaker 2 (24:31):
Yes, yes, this is actually a direct tie to the
episode from Tales of the Jedi that was on Disney Plus.
Speaker 1 (24:38):
Okay, so if this is about ten years before Attack
of the Clones, why does Count Duku have jet black hair?
Speaker 2 (24:46):
Because he probably uses hair dye for men.
Speaker 1 (24:49):
But so he just stopped using it before when we
get to Attack of the Clones, it's a serious question.
Is an oversight or is it something I'm just not aware?
Speaker 2 (24:58):
He may he may have been too busy to color
his head, but.
Speaker 1 (25:02):
His face even looks younger. Well, i'll call it. I'll
call it artistic autistic license, Okay, because I really did
enjoy this book. I just had that one question that
when it when it started.
Speaker 2 (25:13):
It's understandable. So yeah, but you know, the whole premise
of this issue is you know, this is Yaddel uh,
you know, and you know, as we found out in
Tales of the Jedi, it's Dookku who kills gottl so uh. Anyway,
Jedi Knights Before the Fall written by Mark Gugenheim. Art
is by Matebek Mussabakoff. Color art is by Luis Guerrero
(25:36):
Hi Luis h. Letters are by Virtual Caligraphyce Clayton Coles
Raza is the main cover artist. There are variants, including
one by Dan Jurgens, Britt Brett Breeding and Laura Martin.
Ivan Tao has a Great Count Dooku variant, and then
there's one by Mike McCone and Maury Hallowell, as well
as a Lightsaber variant by Torred Clark. Carlos Slow is
(25:56):
the book designer. Drew Baumgartner and Mikey J. Basso are
the assistant editors. Uh Mark Poninsia with Danny Kazm are
the editors Nice Promotion Danny and Cebe Sepalski is the
editor in chief. Same crew for Lucasfilm. We got Robert Simpson,
Grace Rris, Michael Sigline, Troy Alders, Phil Shostak, Pablo Hidalgo,
Matt Martin, and Emily Kocannie so Yes. Again in keeping
(26:21):
with the theme of Jedi Knights, pretty much every issue
is kind of a one and done, you know. So
it's an encapsulated story, and Yattle and Sira Longa have
been dispatched, dispatched to the outer Rim world of list
Can to mediate a disfute between the Gallanter Corporation and
the Trade Federation, including a very familiar pace from the
(26:42):
prequel trilogy. But all on the Scan is not as
it initially seems, uh so, And that's where we set
after having you know, basically revisited tales of the Jedi
and the death of Yaddle. You know we we cut
to list can years before the Padlo that boot and
Siri Langa is with Yaddle. Yaddle has tapped Sri Langa
(27:05):
to join her to help mediate this dispute. Uh, and
Sirah is grateful, you know, thank you, master Yaddle, whatever
form selecting me to help you mediate this trade dispute.
I'm honored thousands of Jedi in the galaxy, and I
seem to have found the one who enjoys mediation. If
you find this exciting, wait till you wait till you
have to negotiate a trade route or arbitrate taxation policy.
(27:28):
Are you having a chuckle at my expense, master Yaddle,
I'll never tell. Yattle says with this wonderful spurt, And
so they approach, and yeah, it is Viceroy Newt gun
Right of the Trade Federation and the Roodian Quillan Zorro,
chief negotiations officer for Glantern. Quillen is trying to spew
(27:50):
the flattery. And I say, it's an honor to have
not one but two actual Jedi serving as our mediators.
And Yeattle gets right to business. My understanding, Viceroy, is
that you have few claimed Gallanter violated its contract with
the Trade Federation in numerous respects, all of which are
basis lies. The truth is that the Trade Federation has
(28:11):
stolen an entire freighter full of our goods. We are
merely holding it in escrow until the Galanter Corporation honors
its contract with us. And Sirius says, by doing what
as I said, there are several violations. Well, perhaps you
can give us the light speed version very well. The
Trade Federation promised and thirty eight denysium paracels in exchange
(28:33):
for ten thousand shares of Galanter corpse stock. We delivered
the paracels in question, and they yet to make good
on their end of the bargain. And Yattle says, so
you stole one of the freighters, took it into escrow
and cirus as well. The solution here appears to be straightforward.
Transfer the shares has agreed, and I'm sure advice for Gunroy, Well,
(28:55):
Gunray will be more than happy to release your freighter.
I won't permit Galantor to be blackmailed. Give me back
that freighter, or I'll file ten articles of peachment with
you with the Galactic Court honor our contract or I'll
see to it you'll never be able to do business
in a civilized system again. And Yaddow's like, sigh, gentlemen,
(29:16):
it appears we are at an impasse. Ah. So she
and Sarah walk off, and Sirah's like, agreed, what do
you suggest that freighter concerns me? I sense Gunray isn't
being as truthful about it as he claims, And Sirius says, well,
I have a similar instate. It seems we need to
have a private conversation with device Troud. But doing so
(29:39):
would violate the rules of the mediation, says Yattle. But
I have another idea, and so we cut to where
the freighter in question is the Galantward Freighter. And it's
awesome because it is a yet three hundred thirteen hundred,
except it's the one where the cockpit is in the
middle of the of the shipping forts, of the hallowing forts. Uh.
(30:00):
I love it. I love this.
Speaker 1 (30:02):
I love the White Tea, the White series because anytime
you see one, it's kind of like the stars the
Federation starships. They use the same pieces, they just put
them in different in different formations to make a community
different ship but they all look like they're from the
same family exactly. So what they're doing here is they're
they're slicing into a locked freighter, which is okay when
(30:23):
listening to a private conversation is unethical. And I love that,
Yeattle says, My understanding of the law is that it
is replete with iron, with tiny ironies. So they get
in and they they find the disputed goods, which is
ry Lothian spice, which makes uh them wonder why legitimate
corporation like Gaillant which would trade in illegal spice, And
(30:47):
a voice says, I should think that the answer to
that question would be obvious, my young Jedi friend, and
it's uh, Count Dooku. It is a young handsome Count Dookou.
Speaker 2 (30:57):
Yes, and he has you know, he has left the Order.
Speaker 1 (31:00):
At this point. Yes, because I've never met a former
Jedi before.
Speaker 2 (31:05):
Yeah, yeah, you know. And then you know, then the
addole adds much less one who has knuck onto a
private freighter. Please, my present here isn't nearly so insidious
as it happens. I'm here as a favor to a
friend of the Trade Federation. He asked me to safeguard
their property, to which Theaddle says, except the ship belongs
(31:26):
to the Galanter Corporation, yet it now rests in the
custody of the Trade Federation. I have reason to believe
Glana will attempt to recover it's confiscated freighter. And you know,
as he says, that get a pew poo pew, and
all three of them draw fire from wookies right on schedule,
to be who says.
Speaker 1 (31:46):
And I love they're even even color coded. We get
one that's in like white fer but it looks blue,
one that's brown for the looks red, and one that's
like a lighter brown for the looks yellow. And that
one is wearing an eye patch.
Speaker 2 (31:57):
Yeah, I noticed that. I noticed that, of course. But
which is when it's cool, though, is they've all got
you know, casters and uh and then you know, Sira
sees uh Duku ignite his very wonderfully crafted lightsabers. Why
does he still have a lightsaber? And to which Yattle says, well,
Duku remains a friend to the order, but even though
(32:18):
he may still wheeld a saber, he nevertheless requires our help.
And you know, we get to see Yaddle in action,
which is awesome as always, and it's much like you know,
we saw Yoda and Revenge of the Sith and an
attack of the clones, you know, raar, you know? And uh,
you know, Yaddle smacks one one boat caster and tears
it apart. Uh and then uh, you know, we cut
(32:41):
to Douku, who's parrying the brown wookie. Interesting, it's so
rare to encounter wookies of a criminal persuasion. And the
sand colored wookie with the eye patch tosses a thermal
detonator and seriously, master Yaddle, look out, and you know
she jumps on the addle. Think dead, nave the chum again.
Great lettering here, and you know we see the spice
(33:03):
clouds from the deat nation, master Yattle, are you all right?
The only thing wounded, as they say, is my pride.
Thank you for your assistance, of course. But where's Douku?
They took him? Who took him? Who were loose wookies?
They work for Galanter? How is that possible? It looked
like criminals, really, Sira, it hasn't occurred to you yet,
(33:24):
what has it? The Galanter Corporation are criminals. The company
is an artifice to hide their true nature. Apparently the
company is a front so they can smuggle spice. And
they took Douku to punish him for stealing their spice,
but why not take the spice along with Douku? There
weren't enough of them to fight off too Jedi, Well,
(33:46):
what are we gonna do. We're going to save him.
We're going to save Doku. And that's where we cut.
Do we see Douku in chains, strung up by the
wookies and we now have a red Wookie. Well it's
the brown Wookie. But you know, you've made a very
grave error in judgment, my friend. And he is addressing
another Wookie named Lucas and his protocol Joy says. Luncus disagrees,
(34:10):
particularly considering that you're his captive. Uh tell Lucas why
you're helping the Trade Federation? Why not? You'll be among
the dead soon anyway. I am in league with someone
who is in league with the Trade Federation. They need
the Federation sell or something they're planning, so I'm helping them.
(34:31):
It's really just that simple. And Loncus and the protocol
Droid says, and what makes you think we'll be dying
anytime soon? Destiny? And you know, and it's interesting because uh,
you'll notice, we get the you know, after that, we
get the word destiny in another little speech box, but
(34:53):
it's coated green, so we know that that's yattleh And
we cut to Yattle and Sira for their ship. What
Yeattle says, you ask me why we should, why we
should aid Douku destiny? Destiny is the answer. Who's destiny?
I do not know. The Force is my guide. It
tells me to follow my instincts, to trust my feelings,
(35:16):
and so I do. I don't trust Douku. There is
a disturbance surrounding him, like a shroud, something troubling that
brings a chill to my soul. But I cannot deny
the force. We get the next mantle and we see,
you know it's that it's where Douku has delivered the
killing blow to Yaddle. I would sooner die, and you know,
(35:38):
Yeattle sigh at Doku's hands. No matter what, we must
save Douku. And again again it's right there in the open,
you know. I mean, Yaddle knew but didn't put two
and two together until it was too late. So we
cut back, you know, and the wookies of that, Lonkas says,
(36:01):
Oh that I understood. It sounded disturbingly like kill him,
says the red of the Brown Wookie. Would it be
too much to ask for me to die with a
lightsaber in my hand? Consider it a last request, if
you'd like. And as he's saying this, despite the fact
that he's chained, he draws his lightsaber to amusing that force.
(36:22):
It ignites and goes through the Brown Wookie. Oh one second,
iought to him bother and then you know, Duco gets
a hold of it, cuts his chains. I seem to
have found it, and then you know, longkas is and
then protocol joined, nice little wine here, I'm afraid it's
against my programming to translate profanity. And the other twoies
(36:45):
Wokies are rare, and then no, and we see in
silhouette Sierra in Yattle, count Dooku is under our protection.
Back off. You want to sit in the corner and
reconsider your life choices, Yettle sister one of the wookies
or and the Wookie leaves and the protocol, you know,
(37:06):
the protocold is like, oh wait, what about me? Where
are you going? I locus so as I recall, and
then Douku has lucas as I recall, I promised that
you would be among the dead, and I always keep
my promises. And he brings his saber up over his head,
(37:29):
swings it forward with a wound to strike, and there's
yaddle and she parries the she paries the killing blow.
If that were so, you wouldn't strike someone down at anchor, Douku,
you know it is not the Jedi way. And this
panel where she says that the intensity of the light
billowing off of their clashing sabers is just stunningly good.
Speaker 1 (37:51):
Here, it's great. Yeah, it's these next two pages because
because Doku he's in shadow here and he says, what
I know, master Yadel, is that they are forcing it
work in the galaxy who do not share the Jedi's
reluctance to do what is necessary, and it will mean
the end of the Jedi order. And the way like
the way he's framed there is great.
Speaker 2 (38:08):
Oh my god, yeah, because you know he's he's looking rough,
he's been tortured, he's been beaten, and you know he's
been denied his prize, which is killing Lankas. And he says,
thank you for the rescue. Pity that will never know
whether I truly owe you my life and he leaves,
and Siriah's just like, he's wrong. You did save his life, No, dear,
(38:31):
we did. And yeah, that sounds like you're already regretting it.
Preserving life is never regretful, whatever the cost may prove
to be. So, given what we know, it's a very
bittersweet story because Yaddle. Yeah, and you know, we still
(38:53):
don't know a lot about Yaddle. We never have really
known a lot about Yaddle because Yeaddle is like Yoda,
and that species has just been this is closely guarded.
So but it was a good story. It was a
nice little one and done tail and I for one
was glad to see it, and I like, I like
how Mark Guggenheim, you know, is is sowing the seeds
(39:17):
what we know is to come in the prequel trilogy,
and it's interesting, it's intriguing. It's also intriguing to see,
you know, exactly again how long Duke Wu has been
in league with Sidius. Right, So that leads us into
Jedi Night's Number six, which features Qui gon Jen, Mace Windu,
(39:40):
and Isla Sakira. They will retrieve the body of a
dead Jedi Master named Fondar et cis should be interesting.
So for next week, fairly light week for once, it'll
be nice.
Speaker 1 (39:53):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (39:53):
On Tuesday, July eighth, we get the Ewok's trade paperback
which collects that mini series, and then until night we
get Star Wars. So Star Wars slash passing, I Am
Mad Jeff is around. May the Force be with us always.
