Speaker 1 (00:00):
Big days been made. I'm using speak as beerful park,
and I don't want seats running against scenes.

Speaker 2 (00:33):
Obvious surprising. No news this week, which is I guess
not a surprise given the holiday. So Jeff cannot be
here just this week, but he will be back next week,

(00:53):
and so we will dive right in after this brief message.
Perhaps so Star Wars Legacy of Vader Number six, The
Reign of Kylo Redd. It's written by Charles soul Art
is by Luke Ross Welcome Back Luke. Color artist is
Nolan Woodard. Letters by VC's Joe KRAMNYA cover artist is

(01:14):
Derek Chue. Variant covers of by Chris Sprause. Carl's Story
in Neiraje Menon, Jose Maria Casanova and Simon and DeMeo
Carlos Laois. The book designer Mikey J. Basso is the
assistant editor, Mark Ponizzia of the Editor and C. B. Sebalski,
the editor in chief for Lucas Filming of Editor Grace Harris,
Senior editor Robert Simpson, creative director Michael Sigline, art director

(01:35):
Troy Alders from the story group, It's Pablo Hidalgo, Matt
Martin and Emily Kokhani and the creative art manager is
Phil Shostack. It's a great story. It basically shows that
the First Order has conquered Karelia. It's called the Conquest
of Karelia. And for ship fans, especially those who love
wy Wings like me, this is your issue. And this

(01:58):
is basically Hucks his moment to shine. His battle plan
is working, Karelia is systematically being defeated with precise strikes,
you know, the usual amount of First Order terror. But
then Kylo shows up throwing a monkey wrench at the plans,
bringing his tie interceptor and going straight forward the killing blow,

(02:20):
which doesn't really surprise anyone, particularly me. Hawks is a
little concerned by this because it could mean, you know,
the potential death of the Supreme Leader. But it's Kylo
ren and we sort of know how it ends. The
art here is very spot on one now, it's very detailed,
it's very precise, and it conveys a lot of the
emotional action as well as the simmering hate to which

(02:43):
Kylo Wrenn feels. He takes out the main control cluster
for Karelia, and the First Order is victorious, and we
get this great page where it's essentially Kylo on his
throne receiving the adoration of his First Order subjects, and
he looks over and goes, Hucks, I know all of

(03:06):
this makes you feel small. It is not your role
to feel large. Of course, Supreme Leader. See me in
my chambers for an after action report. General. You did
well with the throne. I am pleased. Thank you, Supreme Leader.
And later we see the two confabbing and the Hucks
rightfully says, hey, you know, I had a plan and

(03:26):
it worked, and it was working, and you showed up,
and that's fine. It's your prerogative. You're the first Order leader,
you're the Supreme Leader. But I need to know strategically
and tactically what's going to be happening by those for
whom I am defending and working for. Kylo, of course,
does not take criticism well, makes Hucks dismiss himself, and

(03:50):
then Vonnie reaches out and Vagnye has found him a
Jedi who survived to Order sixty six, and this has
got Kylo's appetite wedded. So we cut to Latia in
the mid rim. It's a forest planet, lots of snow,
it's very gorgeous, and Vanye and Kylo are walking down

(04:11):
a snow path. We get some backflashes to Return of
the Sith, with the Anakin leading the clones into the
Jedi temple.

Speaker 1 (04:24):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (04:25):
We see Vader UH fighting some familiar faces, particular if
you've been reading Charles Soul's Darth Vader comics.

Speaker 1 (04:32):
UH.

Speaker 2 (04:32):
And then you know, we see the Emperor Uh influencing
Vader as always, you know, because you know, as Vanne notes,
Vader's efforts down the Jedi were successful, which means his
role in the empire evolved. And then of course Kylo
being a little bit of a wise acre, you know,

(04:53):
you know, as I said, if the Jedi ar dead,
what are we doing here? Well, then Vanya says, well,
there was a report of a potential j but it
was never acted upon by Vader because he was dealing
with your uncle at the time. And they continue to walk,
and then Varney stops and he goes, now, you must
go on alone. That's what Kylo does, and he goes

(05:14):
through the forest, takes a moment to enjoy the snow,
emerges into a tavern which I think suspiciously looks a
lot like Marion Ravenwood's Tavern and Raiders of the Lost
Dark in Nepal. And that's probably by design, and that's fine,
and because I like the little nods like that. And

(05:34):
Kylo walks in. Everyone's at the bar, having a good time,
lots of different creatures, lots of familiar faces, at least
particularly for fans of Snaggletooth, and the bartender is like, hey, stranger,
what do you need. He goes, well, I'll drink of wine.
Wine it is, this is pressed for some local scow grapes.
It'll keep you a warm at night, that's for sure.
And so Kylo is trying to sort of ask some questions,

(05:56):
maybe find out about so many unusual you know, I
question is there may be any one unusual in this town?
You mean other than you? No, I mean, k this
is ridiculous. And he just starts force choking everybody. You
don't hurting everybody? Tell me, you know, you know exactly why,
I mean, the Jedi. I'm not here to play games.
You will. And as he's using his force powers, he

(06:18):
sees his saber go flying across the room into the
hand of potentially this is a Jedi, and he ignites
the blade he goes, now looks like you got yourself
a cracked Kayper Crystal here. You really ought to get
that looked at. But for now, young man, let's chat.
That's where we get it to be continued for Legacy

(06:40):
Evader number seven. So yeah, fun little issue. You know,
really really blazed through the Battle of Karelia. I would
have loved to have seen a little more. But then again,
you know this book the focus is on Kylo Rin
and not so much the first order. So but still
a lot of fun. Glad to have Luke rossback. Curious
to see and learn more about this new Jedi whose

(07:01):
name is revealed you know in the Solicit Inspiration number seven.
We won't reveal it here because the worl't really spoil
it too much. So there we go. Now, what we
got coming out next week, it's a pretty big week.
July fifteenth sees the release of Star Wars Legends the
Rebellion Omnibus Volume three, so that's gonna be a big one.

(07:21):
We will not be reviewing that. But on Wednesday, July sixteenth,
we get Star Wars number three, The High Republican Adventures
Phase three number twenty, the final issue that's gonna be sad.
I'm gonna miss that one. And then, of course, also
from dark Horse, The Bad Batch Ghost Agent's number five
of five Star Wars.

Speaker 1 (07:56):
The Star Wars song is mart Can Handle the Cape.

Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
