Speaker 2 (00:04):
This is episode number you ready, four hundred and sixty two. Oho, Jeff,
how are you dig?

Speaker 1 (00:22):
Stage be made? I'm humping as Befo.

Speaker 2 (00:30):
Park On.

Speaker 1 (00:31):
I don't want sets running against scenes. Hi Matt, Hi.

Speaker 2 (00:47):
Fine? I heard you saw concerts I did.

Speaker 1 (00:52):
I got to go see Weird Al for the fourth
time for me Pam's third time, and it was it
was great. It's his bigger and we tour. If if
he's coming near you and you haven't gotten tickets and
their tickets available, I would highly recommend it. He brings up,
he brought out the suit for fat, did that and
I did a really cool medley where he did a
lot of a lot of songs from his like first

(01:14):
couple of albums that he doesn't normally do in concert.
He's got a couple, he's got three female backup musicians,
and so one of them dressed up as Lucy and
they did Oh Ricky, You're so fine. A grand time
was had by all, and the opening act was an
act called Puddle's Pity Party, who has a YouTube channel

(01:36):
and he's he's a guy who dresses up like a
clown covers music. He's had an amazing voice, and he
opened with Crazy a cover of Crazy Train in honor
of Ozzi.

Speaker 2 (01:45):
Like as one should, yea one should that it was.

Speaker 1 (01:47):
It was a great It was a great show. And
uh yeah, and and saw some really really cool movies
since the last time we talked. We didn't really talk
about it last week Fantastic four First Steps.

Speaker 2 (01:58):
I loved it. Actually saw it in the theater on
opening weekends.

Speaker 1 (02:02):
Hot on the heels, Yeah, Hot on the heels of Superman.
It's been a good summer for superheroes.

Speaker 2 (02:07):
It has, it has.

Speaker 1 (02:08):
We saw it an Imax three D and it was
it was great. Did the three D really added to
the scale of Galactus?

Speaker 2 (02:14):
I imagine it would have. And I and I gotta say,
you know, as a comic nerd, I uh, you know,
the the night before we went to go see the movie,
we saw it on a Sunday morning, I pulled out
my giant size hardcover collecting the first appearances of Galactus
by Jack Kirby and and stan Lee and then, uh,

(02:38):
you know some of the stories that John Byrne did
when he was sprunting the fandoma writing and trying a
fantastic four. Very nice. It was nice to you know,
have that refresher, if you will. And then to just
see how how comic accurate Galactus was. It was incredible.

Speaker 1 (02:55):
It was great. And let me ask you this, Matt,
there was you may have missed it, but there was
one shot. I don't know if I.

Speaker 2 (03:01):
Think it was. I didn't miss it.

Speaker 1 (03:03):
The one okay, so the shot of the two guys
and Jack Jack and the instand, that's what I thought.
I lean over to Pan, I was like, I'm pretty
sure it was suposed to be Jack Kirby and stan Lee.

Speaker 2 (03:12):
Okay, No, I actually I actually it was like very
not too audible because we were in a theater and
I'd like to be put like when I'm in the theater.
But I was like, I elbowed. My wife said, that's
Stanley and Jack Kirby. That's that's supposed to be. And
she said, thanks, I know literally, yeah, I know, dip ship,

(03:34):
where did you marry? That's true. So it was fun though.
I enjoyed it. It's a fun movie. And then you know,
having seen Superman, uh, you know, like I mentioned, befors
loved Superman.

Speaker 1 (03:48):
We've we've been I've been interesting Pam to Smallville. She
hasn't ever seen it, and so we've been about midway
through the first season and just Hammer's Home. How right
James Gunn got Clark Kent Oh yeah in that film.
So because that I love that you.

Speaker 2 (04:02):
Got everybody right he did. So, you know, you know,
I may actually go see Superman again.

Speaker 1 (04:09):
I've seen it twice. I'm gonna go see Fantastic four
US a second time. I probably will. Actually, we're gonna
here to talk about movies. Even though we're talking. We're
here to talk about movies. We're here to talk about
Star Wars comics. We only have one this week from Marvel,
Legacy of Vader number seven, cracking good Tale.

Speaker 2 (04:25):
Oh my gosh, that was such a good story. Matt.

Speaker 1 (04:28):
What have we got news wise?

Speaker 2 (04:31):
Well, be sure to check out the publishing schedule in
the show notes, not just in this episode's show notes,
but also last week's if you need to, because Dark
Horse has got some some slight delay. It's nothing, nothing
too big, just sort of adjusting the schedule. That's affecting
all of their books that are coming out, well not

(04:51):
almost all of them, So those are at the bottom
of the show notes and definitely worth checking out. And
then of course, you know we've already been over the
solicits for October from Marvel and November from Dark Course,
but if you head over to the Facebook page or

(05:12):
you know, God forbid the Blue Sky fee, we have
updated solicit details for the raft of Marvel published epic
collections and omnibus editions, including Star Wars Legends, the newspaper
Strip's Omnibus, which is coming July twenty first, Star Wars

(05:33):
Legends the New Republic Omnibus Volume three, which is coming
June sixteenth. May nineteenth, Star Wars Legends Legacy Omnibus Volume one.
I know a lot of people are going to be
very excited about that. And then of course we have
the details for the trade paperback that's collecting the ten
issues of the current Star Wars run, and oddly enough

(05:56):
very interesting. I just you know, I was the trade
collecting Doctor Afric Chaos Agent is dueout May nineteenth, and
it's collecting ten issues. So again, like the Star Wars trade,
it's kind of like, all right, is this just going
to be the new style? But you know it's neither
here nor there, because you know, Jedi Knights is getting collected,

(06:20):
you know, in you know, two trades, same with Legacy
of Vader. So you know, can't we say with any
resolute authority that Doctor Affer is only going to be
ten issues? Maybe maybe not.

Speaker 1 (06:33):
We can say it's going to be at least ten.

Speaker 2 (06:35):
Issues now, at least ten issues. And of course, you know,
the general rule of thumb is that Marvel usually makes
its decision by the fifth issue. So you know, if
it's not selling super you know, really well, they make
that call by the fifth issue. So so we'll find out.
We'll find out, but you know, it's neither here nor there.
Just enjoy it while we got It's a fun series.

(06:56):
As we said, you know, we'll be discussing it last week.
So uh and then of course, uh, you know, we
had mentioned out of the SDCC that The Bad Batch
is getting another four issue mini series by the same
creative team that did Ghost Agents. This one will be
called Rogue Agents, and uh it uh, it will be.

(07:17):
It will debut the first issue on December seventeenth. No,
definitely definitely did check that out, and that I think
is all the news.

Speaker 1 (07:28):
If the next Bad Batch sequence is called Fallout Agents,
I'll though they're just they're just copying Mission impossible. It
goes a protocol and rogue nation not a.

Speaker 2 (07:39):
Bad idea actually at all.

Speaker 1 (07:41):
So all right, so with that, we're going to take
a short break and we'll be back to discuss Legacy
of Vader issue number seven. Let's do that, all right,
Legacy Evader issue number seven. It's it's it's I've made
no bones about the fact that I've not been blown
a way by this series so far. I like some

(08:02):
things about it very much. This is the first issue
that I would say is as the kid say a banger,
this me.

Speaker 2 (08:10):
This was great. Yeah, I love this one. This was awesome.
This you know that everybody? I mean, yeah, they've they've
been doing a great job of this from the first
from the first issue.

Speaker 1 (08:18):
Yeah, there's nothing wrong with the book itself. It's just
I don't think it's for me. Up until now, it
hasn't been for me, And that's okay.

Speaker 2 (08:24):
Well this is just but this is just a standout story.
So but anyway, this is the Reign of Kylo Ren,
Part seven, written by Charles soul Art is by Luke Ross.
Colors are by Novan Woodard. Letters are by Virtual calligraphies.
Joe Karamania Derek Chu has the main cover, Chris Sprouse
Carl's Story and near Adjmnham have the Revenge of the
sixth twentieth anniversary cover, Karen s Darbo and Hey Susso

(08:46):
Bartof have a variant cover, and Miguel Mercado has a
variant cover. The book's designer is Carlos Lau, assistant editor
is Mikey J. Basso, editor is Mark Benicia. The editor
in chief for Marvel is C. B. Sebalski. From Lucasfilm
we have editor Grace Aris, Senior editor Robert Simpson, creative

(09:06):
director Michael sigmayin art director Troy Alders, creative art manager
Phil Shostack, and from the Story group we have Pablo Hidalgo,
Matt Martin and Emily Schmoo Connie So. Essentially to get
us caught up an issue number six, Kylo Rinn was
sent on a quest by Vinier to find a worthy opponent,

(09:28):
a survivor of Order sixty six and so last issue
Kylo went to a distant, snow covered planet, and as
the crawl written by Charles Soul reads, the young tyrant
has now come face to face with the formidable former Jedi.

(09:49):
And that's where we open up. We are on Latti
in the mid rim, in the pub.

Speaker 1 (09:54):
And Grandia, okay, I need to stop you right there,
is this a joke? A planet called Latte and a
former Jedi called Grande? Is this in the Starbuck Galaxy?

Speaker 2 (10:11):
It could be, or you know, you could go even
deeper and say it's a tribute to Christine Latin, the
excellent actress.

Speaker 1 (10:20):
Yeah, I'm not buying it, all right, all right, that's fine.
I think that I think somebody's just I think somebody's
just a fan of caffeine. I love it though.

Speaker 2 (10:27):
It's great. It's great. And what has happened here is
as Grandia and last at the end of the last issue,
has acquired Kylo Ren's lightsaber from Kylo's hands, and Kylo's
just you know, we open up and he's just shot
return that lightsaber to me, and Grandia is holding the
blades like so you can cut me down. That would
be an extremely foolish decision on my part. And as

(10:50):
you're about to discover Kylo, I'm brilliant.

Speaker 1 (10:55):
And based on based on her her face in this
issue this from this panel, I was thinking she was
like a week Way or maybe a Kletchouonian. But when
you see her when she's younger, she looks more human,
just with these little spikes coming out of her face.
Do we know what species use?

Speaker 2 (11:11):
We don't, but you know what, let me see if
I can find that out. Hold on while you're doing that.

Speaker 1 (11:14):
I think part of the reason I love this book
so much is that somebody besides Kylo talks for the
entire issue.

Speaker 2 (11:21):
It's great, isn't it?

Speaker 1 (11:22):
And he's just it and listen.

Speaker 2 (11:24):
So while you're doing that, well, yes, a theling okay.
So Grandia is a theling okay, And they are a
rare sentient species, recognizable by their brightly colored hair and
spotted skin. This, of course is coming from Pedia and
we have we have seen theling before. I believe they

(11:47):
were in the Hunt for Zero. They're mentioned at least
in the Hunt for Zero. Uh they you know, we've
seen a Fling in the High Republic Adventure as the
Monster of Temple Peak number one. I think they're also
in The Star Words Young Jedi Adventures, the TV show,
and they are mentioned in the High Republic Cataclysm book
as well as the Battle of Jedda the path of

(12:09):
disease for the city conversions so much, so many so,
you know, so not exactly new, but I think they're
also in the acolyte as well. Okay, so so yeah.

Speaker 1 (12:24):
So she she she, she, she starts, She gets stopped
by Spahan, who I guess is.

Speaker 2 (12:31):
Her her partner, her partner, her bo.

Speaker 1 (12:34):
He says, don't worry about me. This won't take long,
so let's take it outside. We're going to talk. And
I don't want you disturbing my friends here any more
than you already have because we have nothing to discussed.

Speaker 2 (12:43):
Then it'll be Gol's just all attitude. And Luke Cross
has drawn Kylo like this, I mean, because Kylo is
just he's torqued. What who's talking back to me?

Speaker 1 (12:58):
That's a good way to put it. Yeah, just he's torqued.
And he asked her how she how she knew his name,
and she says, well, it's right there in front of
your mind, young man. You're screaming it to yourself and uh,
and you know, he says, get out of my mind.

Speaker 2 (13:11):
Wait, wait, I'm sorry, I gotta interrupted. The most famous
feeling human hybrid, of course, was Jackie Lawn from the acolyte.

Speaker 1 (13:21):
Which one was that?

Speaker 2 (13:23):
Come on, I think about it.

Speaker 1 (13:25):
I just I'm not going to remember.

Speaker 2 (13:27):
Daphne is her name. She played X twenty three in.

Speaker 1 (13:31):
The Oh okay Dephney Kean.

Speaker 2 (13:34):
Okay, that's it, Daphne Kean. So so yeah, So anyway,
I digress back to you, okay.

Speaker 1 (13:41):
And he tells her to get out of he out
of his mind, and she says, I'm not in your mind.
No one can do that. I'm not trying to steal
information you don't want to give, like he tried to
do to your poor with poor Armad back in the tavern.
I'm just picking up what you're giving off. Like I said,
you're it's like you're screaming. And I love that that
that He's just everything is so close to the surface
for him that she has no trouble reading him. Yeah,

(14:05):
and she says, you know, you're looking for a Jedi,
like there's no bounding, not for a long time. He says, well,
she said you need to keep looking because I'm not
a Jedi. Says that's a lie. Use the force, you know,
the crystal will out sabers cracked at a glance. She's
just so I did, but I didn't lie to you.
I was a Jedi, but I'm not one anymore, she says,
tell me, cala Ren, have you heard of Order sixty six?
And we get this back a flashback for most a

(14:28):
good portion of the issue. And I love the way that,
you know, all the colors are kind of washed out,
and I'm assuming there's just a process they do with it,
but it's just so effective.

Speaker 2 (14:37):
Yeah, it's sort of like almost like this opaque sheen
that helps you realize that, you know, we are in
the past.

Speaker 1 (14:45):
And I love this because we finally see a Jedi
who gets it, feels betrayed by the Clones, and is
bitter about it.

Speaker 2 (14:54):
Noh, very much.

Speaker 1 (14:54):
Assassins, she calls them. Assassins have been hidden in our
midst for years, and once they received their orders, they
slaughtered us. And we see them do it, you know, yeah,
we see her. I guess her Master ali our uh
you know dead the roady.

Speaker 2 (15:11):
And dead, yes, and and uh and you know then
you know, Grandia is just uh. I survived only because
I used a weapon my enemies were not expecting, not
my lightsaber, something else, something that has always fascinated me.
The technique was often dismissed within the Order as undignified, unworthy.
No one ever said it could set it right out,

(15:33):
but I could tell they considered it a little more
than a trick, and I disagreed. And this trick is
what we first encountered when we watched Star Wars for
the first time, with Obi Wan going, these are not
the grouig you're looking for.

Speaker 1 (15:46):
Right, And I love that that they the Order sees
it as a parlor trick. And of course it's not
something they want to use on a regular basis, because
you know it's you, you're taking away someone's free will.
But what we what we see from here on out
is her basically saying that she's honed it because she
she uses it on these these true persons. She says,
the Jedi has disguised herself as one of you do

(16:07):
what she must, take no chances, and she watches them
start beating one another up, and so she's basically spent
the rest of her life honing that one skill. And this,
this whole story is just fascinating to me because we've
seen how she she threw away her lightsaber, and she's
basically made a life for herself and gotten by gotten

(16:28):
what she needs by avoiding people and using her mind trick,
where every time she deals with someone she uses it
and basically, to use the will Smith parlance from Men
in Black, she flashy things them and they never She's like,
you never saw me here. And for instance, she's talking
to a Monklamari he says, I never saw you here,
and he's wearing a hat, which is awesome, by the way,

(16:50):
It is cool, isn't it. And and she focused it
on I focused on it exclusive to use it to
constantly hone my skills's I tested myself. She used it
on huts and toy darians, which is you know, waddo
and which is.

Speaker 2 (17:03):
I thought that was a nice little throwback, you know,
because I mean, you know, you know, given her what
we saw, you know, in the Phantom Menace, you know,
I'm a to dairy. Your Jedi mind dricks don't work
on me, you know. And you know, we see, we
see great deal going. This is a good deal. You
are pleased, This is a good deal. I am pleased.
And then we cut that that bottom panel where she's

(17:25):
just walking surrounded by crowds and just blending in, you know,
very much alone and getting you know, getting comfortable.

Speaker 1 (17:39):
Getting by and getting comfortable. Yeah, and and then she's
I believed I was safe. I was not. In that panel,
we see we see Vader strolling off of his one
of his ships with two of the inquisitors in tow
ninth and thirteenth Sisters or in tow, and she's find
the Jedi, do not fail me, and we see that

(18:00):
they they did find her. She she ran, but they
did find her, cut off one of her legs at
the knee, and she uses the mind trick on.

Speaker 2 (18:09):
Them, yes, which is a kind of sinister you know
it is.

Speaker 1 (18:16):
She says, you've killed me and not yet, little lady,
all in good, but all good things come in time,
and you know, they stab her again.

Speaker 2 (18:23):
I would also like to point out that this is
very cool that you know that our our our night sister.
You know obviously we've seen before, but it's also our
thirteenth Sister, and that is is Scott the Curse, which
is just very cool to see to see it's got
in action again because you know, we we know we

(18:46):
we we saw her in I believe it was Oh
my gosh, what is the name of the miniseries that
you and I both liked about the The Jedi Inquisitors,
the Quiz. There's many series she's in The Inquisitors.

Speaker 1 (19:02):
Oh, the comic book series. Yes, I was thinking one
of the Disney Plus series.

Speaker 2 (19:05):
Sorry, yeah, I mean, you know, her first appearance was
back Yeah, and Darth Vader volume two. I believe that
Charles soul had had written so and you know, I
just that stuff that was really cool. And then of course,
you know, she is the subject of the wonderful Delilah's
Dawson novel Inquisitor Rise at the Red Blade.

Speaker 1 (19:26):
And so she she convinces him and and is able
to crawl away, says, we have killed her. They come
back and they say the Jedi was Grandee a Knight
on the list of possible survivors. She didn't have a lightsaber,
probably let her training lab. She didn't put in much
of a fight. Faders, as I see, where is the
body burned? Incinerated? Are you certain? Absolutely, Lord Vader, she's dead.

(19:46):
There's no doubt in my mind. What what's gonna happen
when he figures out that's not the case. If he
ever did.

Speaker 2 (19:53):
Yeah, we've kind of seen what happened. So but you know,
they you know I will be curious to see what
happens to all the sisters all the so. But yeah,
and it's just it's just it's just nuts, you know,
Uh you know, because you know, I mean it's one issue,
you know, and uh you know right now, you know,
I mean we had a little bit last issue and
then we'll have some you know, probably some more hopefully

(20:15):
we'll see but you know, we just we see Grandia
go from padawan to Jedi to survivor two just Grandea
and you know, and she's explaining all this to Kyler,
whose it's not not impressed at all. She's like, I've

(20:36):
gone far beyond anything my teachers in the Temple had
ever contemplated. What I was doing was no trick. I
don't know how I did it, really, but it let
me survive and it still does there. Do you see?
I was a Jedi, but no longer. My time in
the Order was a part of my life, but it
does not define me. I took what I needed from
it and I moved on. I am many things as

(20:58):
are You wouldn't that, and you're close enough to the Jedi.
From my purposes, I've learned what I needed to know
it's time to end this Jesus the port Kylo and
just you know, Grandia has just got that look, you know,
and we give zero in and the way Luke Ross
is drawn Grandea, then you know what these colors where
we see the snow falling around them all, huh, perhaps,

(21:21):
who are you? Why do you need my death so badly?
The Jedi or ancient history? Why can killing a stranger
who was once a member of a lost Order possibly
give you? Let's just see, it's a great idea starts
going in and you know, I would say, Kylo, right
is being violated here, but you know, Grandea's availing herself

(21:47):
of the options she needs and Kyleo's just get get
out out of my head. And then we don't see anything,
but we can tell because you know, then she's said, oh,
poor thing, it could have been so much more.

Speaker 1 (22:07):
That probably makes him even madder than anything else.

Speaker 2 (22:09):
Well, and it does, because he's finally able to to
pull his lightsaber out of Grandilla's grip, get it back
to his hand and then he gashes her die And
now Skywalker, oh that's what you want. But I'm sorry
to have to tell you this. What look, Skywalker is

(22:32):
dead you think about it, Kyler ren didn't know this.
This is set between the events of the Last Jedi
and the Rise of Skywalker. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (22:40):
I didn't realize it at the time, but then I
thought you like you said, oh.

Speaker 2 (22:43):
Yeah, you wouldn't know. Yeah, so this is how Kyler
finds out and you lie and then you know he's
he seems to be lifting her from the ground, not
at all. I felt it when he passed, very strong
sense of loss through the force. And this is a
really great two page spread. You were a student, Yes,

(23:07):
I wonder why you didn't since it. Who are you,
Kylo Wrenn, Who are you? Who are you? Stop? And
he slices and she vanishes, And I was a little
puzzled at first, but I guess it makes sense. She

(23:29):
was a Jedi.

Speaker 1 (23:31):
She's one with the Force.

Speaker 2 (23:32):
She's one with the Force. And Kyle's like, well what
and he just drops to his knees and screechs gral
and that's where it is. So again you know he's
he's he was looking for a trophy, because you know,
we know that Kylo Wrinn likes to keep trophiescept his kills.

(23:56):
He's found out that his uncle has died, rob him
of the chance to kill him, and he's no closer
than to where he was. It really wasn't that much
of a fight to begin with it either, you know,
so Vanye is set him up pretty hard. So that's

(24:18):
where we get next, the Knights of Ren. And that's
going to be interesting because the Knights of Ren return
with a new leader, Taba Wren. So you know this
will be interesting. I'm looking forward to this. So yeah,
so let's give Charles a chance to dive a little
deeper into the Knights of Ren. So although you know,
we know that Kylo does take control of them thanks

(24:41):
to that and see the movie.

Speaker 1 (24:42):
So and if anyone from Marvel is listening, I think
we need a mini series about the adventures of Grindia.

Speaker 2 (24:50):
I think we do. Actually, I love it. I would
really like to see this a lot. So uh and
I would just like to point out that I was wrong.
The thirteenth Sister was not in in Wuizardors, so that's
my bad. So it was just in Charles Soul's Star
Wars run, his first run. However, ninth Sister, you know
it has been everywhere, so so I apologize for feeding

(25:16):
everybody bad information. The Night's sister was an inquisitors so
as well as you know Charles Soul's twenty seventeen Darkly.

Speaker 1 (25:24):
So I guess we'll let it slide this time.

Speaker 2 (25:28):
I hope. So I would be grateful if you would.
All right, you would be doing me a personal dab.

Speaker 1 (25:33):
All right, I can do that. Okay, all right, we'll
take one more short break than moving back to discuss
what's coming next week.

Speaker 2 (25:40):
Excellent?

Speaker 1 (25:45):
All right, man, after we get done with our with
the solicits, I do have a music recommendation for our
listening audience, which you already know about. But what'll we
get for next week?

Speaker 2 (25:55):
Well, as it looks right now, this is the one book,
and that is Star Wars Jedi Knights.

Speaker 1 (26:01):
All right, Well, we'll be back to discuss that and
anything else that happens between now and then. But before that,
I just I believe if I didn't send you this
link yet, Matt, I will. A new album came out
last week by one of my favorite bands called Blankenberge.
I'm assuming I'm pronouncing that correctly. They're a Russian band,
Russian shoe Gay's band, and their latest album called Decisions,

(26:21):
just came out last week, and it is phenomenal if
you're at all a fan of like dream Pop, Cocteau
Twins or Jesus and Mary Chain, anything like that, or
like current slow dive is really what it reminds me
of a lot slow dive and aerial. It is just
very dreamy. You can kind of float on it. It's
it's it's wonderful. I cannot say a good enough good

(26:44):
things about it. You can get it on band camp
for like ten bucks, so we'll put a link to
the band camp page in the show notes. And yeah,
I just I put it on planning to listen to
one song the other night and listen to the entire
album start to finish cool. It is is phenomenal. So
with that, here's a show to an end. So for

(27:06):
Star Wars splash page, I'm Jeff Matt made a force
