Speaker 1 (00:00):
You're listening to Star Wars Splash Page Comics in Review.

Speaker 2 (00:05):
This is episode number four hundred and sixty seven, Reunited,
and it feels so good. Hi Jeff, it's nice to
hear your voice.

Speaker 3 (00:15):
Dig me, Oh no, stay, it's been made. I'm hum
gonna be as beer found park on.

Speaker 4 (00:27):
I don't want sets running in the galla seas.

Speaker 1 (00:38):
I want to say, Matt, is that is that right?

Speaker 2 (00:43):
It's actually it's Mark. You've been ten years now.

Speaker 1 (00:45):
My name is Mark, so you should have told me
that it's it's set in stone now. Sorry, there's nothing
else I can do about it. You're a hero, Mark.

Speaker 2 (00:53):
I say that because when I was in college, I
dated a girl for about a year and a half
and the entire time she called me Mark. And then
when she broke up with me, and I'm not quite
sure why, I satut of blue and you know, I
was like, you know, okay, whatever, you know, you're breaking
up me. That's cool, that's fine. You know, I'm young,
you're young. These things happen. And rather than you know,
like be mean or unerringly, you know, vindictive, I just

(01:14):
you know, she goes, do you have anything to say?
I said yes, and she goes, what I said, my
name is Matt, and she was like she was thunderstruck.
She was like, wait, what, I've been calling you Mark
since we met. I said, I know, I just never
bothered to correct you. And I mean I tried the
first couple of weeks, and I don't know if you
were listening or not. So I really didn't take and

(01:36):
you seemed comfortable with it. So you know that's fine,
she's huh. So all those times I called over here
to the fraternity house and asked for you and they
said there's no Mark here. You weren't avoiding me, no,
they just you know, you could have asked for Matt.

Speaker 1 (01:49):
So my freshman year of high of college, I was
in the dorm and there was a guy on the
live in my on my hall, not in my not
in my rool. I wasn't his room, Maybe to live
in my hall. We hung out, go to the movies together, everything.
Couldn't I tell you his name to save my life?
And every time I would ask anybody on the hall,
they were like, I don't know. So to this day,
I have no idea what this guy's name was.

Speaker 2 (02:11):
I bet it was probably the ghost of a freshman
who died several several years before you got.

Speaker 1 (02:15):
There, probably, so that was that was That was my
second guess. But we do have some Star Wars comics
to talk about this week together finally, So we have
two books from uh from Marvel, we have Jedi Nights
number seven, and from dark Horse we have Tales from
the night Lands number one, and that's the order that
we're going to discuss them in. But before we do

(02:37):
any of that, Matt, what have we got for news?

Speaker 2 (02:41):
Not a whole lot of news, per se. I will
say this, We're a couple of weeks out from December
solicits from Marvel and January solicits from dark Horse. I'm
banking on some Doctor Afra announcements hopefully from Marvel and
potentially even something from dark forst we'll see. But other

(03:04):
than that, Web tune as finally put its first group
of Star Wars comics from Marvel onto its platform, and
it's the first few issues from Marvel's Star Wars Volume two,
which came out in twenty fifteen. We have a link
to the dispatch that Collider did on this, as well

(03:25):
as a some previews of what the pages look like
on web two, and it's a it's a thing. So
I mean, and I'm not I'm not I'm not denigrating it.
It's just that, you know, web tune is a you know,
it's it's this, you know, you scroll down, it's and

(03:48):
it's a it's a certain format. And so it's interesting
to compare and contrast you know, some of those first
issues of Marvel's Star Wars, so from the Skywalker Strikes
arc that that Jason Aaron wrote and John Cassidy, John
Cassidy illustrated May he Rest in Peace? Uh So, but
you can you can see those on the Facebook page

(04:09):
and on Blue Sky. But again, you know, it might
not be for everybody, but it might be for a
lot of people. So the way I see it, you know,
if you can get Star Wars onto another platform, that's great.
That's the way it should be.

Speaker 3 (04:21):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (04:22):
And then we also have a look at Lucas Wars
on the Facebook page in Blue Sky. This came from
the Hollywood Reporter and basically it's it's details the story
of George Lucas and the making of Star Wars. Uh
And yeah, this was you know, originally a French graphic novel,
and so it you know, it's by Lawrence Hupman and

(04:42):
renew Roche and it's been translated by Jeremy Jeremy Melul
And there's several preview pages and yeah, here's the thing.
It looks pretty good. Uh, it's nicely done. And you know,
there is one that really there's one page that really
stuck with me. It's you know, shows Carrie Fisher getting
the phone call that she got the part and just
you know, you see her running out of the house

(05:04):
with the phone still, you know, just dangling from the wall.
Carrie just running down the streets in the rain. I'm
Princess Leah. So and that's cool. So but check it out.
You know, like I said, the book is out September sixteenth.
You know, it's not a Star Wars comic per se,
but you know it is definitely very Star Wars comic adjacent.
So yeah, absolutely, it looks like a lot of fun.

(05:26):
So and then, uh, last but not least, shout out
to my local comic shop, Brave New Worlds and Willow Grove,
uh for the pick of the week. There, you know,
the staff always you know, posts their picks of the week,
and so for last week, Elias whom I've not yet met,
uh picked a legacy of Vader number eight. So it's

(05:48):
it's been a long time since, you know, somebody picked
a Star Wars comic there. So I was very happy
to see that. And no, before you, before you even
think it or even ask it, I did not grease
the skids and drop it twenty into the pool into
the poll list. But yeah, that's cool, and that's all
we got for news.

Speaker 1 (06:07):
All right, So a little bit of news. We'll take
a short break and we'll be back to discuss Jedi
Nights number seven from Marvel. Heck, yeah, all right, we
are back Jedi Knights number seven, which is a continuation

(06:27):
of Jedi Knights number six. And I have some questions
about this book, mad, But before we get into that,
can you give us the the deats on the creative
team behind this one.

Speaker 2 (06:40):
Absolutely. This is issue number seven Marvel Star Wars Jedi Knights.
It's called The Necessary Evil. It's kind of launching a
new arc, so to speak, you know. In theory written
by Mark Gugenheim. Art is by Matta Beck Missa Bakoff.
Color artist is Luis Guerrero. The letters are by virtual
calligraphies Clayton Coles. The main cover is by Matta Beck

(07:03):
and Jesus Abertoff. There is a an action homage variant
by Dan Jurgens, Brett Breeding and Laura Martin. Rod Rice
has a really awesome variant. Torren Clark has a lightsaber variant,
which you know Torrin has been doing for every issue.
And then of course there is a Revenge of the

(07:24):
Sith twentieth Anniversary variant by Chris Sprouse, Carl Story and
neur Alagia Menon book Heiner is Carlos Laugh. Our assistant
editors are Mikey J. Basso and Trew Bambgartner. Mark Panicia
is the editor. C B. Sebelski is the editor in chief,
and for Lucasfilm we have senior editor Robert Simpson, Associate

(07:46):
editor Grace Aris, creative director Michael Scleane, Art director Troy Alders,
creative art manager Phil Shostack, and from the story group
we've got Pablo Hidalgo, Matt Martin and Emily skokhani Yah.
So yeah, this picks up as you will recall the
end of Visual Sex, Qui Gon got stabbed in the chest,

(08:09):
not for the last time.

Speaker 1 (08:12):
Well, and so okay, so let me and I may
have asked this the last time we discussed this book.
Why do you suppose they decided to go with Qui
gon for this? Since we know he survived, Why would
they not go with someone who whose ultimate fate may
be unknown?

Speaker 2 (08:27):
Do you think that's probably? Well, it's key to the
story because we're trying to figure out who Corlis Wrath
is and why Corliss Rath is trying to kill Qui
gon We've been trying to figure that out since the
first issue.

Speaker 1 (08:37):
Right, but you know what I mean, like, why go
with Qui gon in that in that scenario, like if
we're we're supposed to have any sort of any sort
of intrigue or or.

Speaker 2 (08:46):
Or because Qui gon Jen has a certain set of
skills of course character, you know, and Obi Wan is
still you know, sort of a padawan if you will.

Speaker 1 (09:01):
But but you know what I mean, right there, there
are no there are no stakes because we know he survives. Yeah,
but but that that's not there, as mom would say, irregardless.

Speaker 2 (09:11):
Yeah, however I would I will say this, I do
have a quibble, an editorial quibble with the crawl and
it says because you know it brings. It explains to
us why Mace Windu, Qui Gon, and Ila Sekira are
on Mina Rau, and that's to bring back the remains
of their fallen comrade Jedi Master Fondar. Uh. You know,

(09:33):
the kind of concludes with uh, you know, explains how
Corless Wrath and Qui Gon were dueling. The two men
fought a challenging duel in the fields of Mina Raw
that culminated and Cordless fatally stabbing Qui Gon. Well, no,
not really, because he's still alive.

Speaker 1 (09:50):
Right, That's kind of what I thought as well.

Speaker 2 (09:52):
So you can't fatally stab someone and had them lie
helpless and very close to this. So but yeah, that
that is my only real equivalent with the book. Otherwise,
this is a very solidly entertaining story.

Speaker 5 (10:06):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (10:06):
It does a nice little job of bridging the gap,
but it doesn't really carry us forward forward per se
uh in terms of you know, this great mystery between
you know, Qui Gon and Corless Wrath. I mean, it
does break it out into the open of what's troubling
Qui Gon and why you know and and you know,
and you know that's you know, in the midst of
his uh fatal stabbing throws. You know, he's you know,

(10:30):
he's being tended to by Mason Ala on top of
the very very enormous agricultural implement on this agricultural world,
and you know he's just you know, AILA's like, you know,
can computer analyze it, perhaps formulate an antidote in Maze
is like, I'm not a medic, but it doesn't look good.

(10:53):
It doesn't look like Qui Gon's got that kind and
they're like who And I was like it sounded like Censara,
and Mace is like, I don't know who that is,
but we have to get Qui gone back to the
shuttle and see if we can stabilize them somehow. Well
they do, uh and right smilers Masons. God Ila looks
it up because I checked on the names of Sara.
It's not a person, it's a planet. We've never heard

(11:14):
of it. It's a minor planet and the Anowitz sector.
I've already made the lights speak calculation, so they get
this cin Sara well.

Speaker 1 (11:20):
And I love that they're they're in the the Jedi
starship like we saw in ah Soka, the Ahsoka series.

Speaker 2 (11:25):
Oh yeah, yeah, it's great.

Speaker 1 (11:27):
And again we may have commented that last time, folks,
I've slept since then. Sorry, I thought it was cool. Yeah,
they get here and they immediately get told the Jedi
forbidden here, you must leave it once. And I love that.
Alis says, your customs can tell you not to refuse
a stranger, and so it lets them in. And and uh,
Mace asks said, was that you mind tricking him?

Speaker 2 (11:47):
No?

Speaker 1 (11:47):
Then how do you know about their customs? I didn't.
It took a lucky guess, which is cool here. And
so they find out that that this this guy knows
the poison. It's called Imbra. Imubara. Sorry, Imubarra quite deadly
says there's an antidote. He says, Imubara is made by

(12:09):
the banished, you might ask them. So it's banished, the banished.
They were driven out after the Horomeda like the Jedi,
and so like what were they banished too? So no matter,
there's no help, and so alisas don't worry. We can
be very persuasive. And this is where we're thinking, maybe
she'll have to use the mind trick.

Speaker 2 (12:27):
I assume, right, But I really love this panel by
Matta beck care and and Luis. You know, because just
the way she's looking.

Speaker 1 (12:34):
Up at him, right, and that leads into my two
favorite panels of the book on the next page, where
they're walking like at dusk or twilight through this this
very creepy looking forest.

Speaker 2 (12:46):
It very creepy. It looks like something out of you know, gosh,
you know, like you know, the Brotherhood of the Wolf
or you know, or even the Witch's Road from the
recent Agatha Harknas TV show U and uh, just you know,
they just get swarmed upon by dozens of corless wraths,

(13:07):
although it's not Corliss wraths, it's a it's wraths, but
it's the banished, Yeah, and they're all you know, sporting
blades and you know, wearing you know, masks with red
glowing eyes and whatnot. And and we get a really
a couple of really good, solid, you know, frenetic pages
of combat, you know, and the panel panel work here

(13:28):
is really great. The letters that Clayton is doing here
with the womb choomp, uh you know, and it's just
you know, and they just, you know, they just keep
coming in waves. And I was trying to talk to him,
We're not here to fight, you know, and Mace's like,
I don't think they care, and we don't have time
for this. She says, I don't disagree. If you have
any better ideas, she goes just one and she turns
off her blade. We surrender and she, you know, drops

(13:49):
to one name puts her blade on the ground. Meanwhile,
Mace has still got his saber lit and they're all
surrounded and he's just like whatever, and it works, and
they meet the King Garay.

Speaker 1 (14:00):
Who's responsive that the Jedi are back. Is I'm amused.

Speaker 2 (14:04):
Yeah, you know, tell me, Jedi, why shouldn't I have
my men finish what they started and open your next will.
We surrendered peacefully, which just means you made it easier
to kill you. And Mason's like, it seems you're more familiar.
You're familiar with the Jedi. You know, we could destroy
you if we wanted. I love Mace's attitude, but that's
not the Jedi way in any case, you know, says Island.
We don't have time. One of our order has been

(14:25):
poisoned with Imubara, and Mace ads, we understand you have
the antidote. We need it badly. I take it how badly?
Kinggara says, and he's just like, I'm gonna help you Jedi.
If I'm gonna help save a Jedi, the price must
be steep, indeed. And then we get a nice little throwback,
you know, to the all Kaijura issue right back in

(14:46):
number three years ago. Kaijura was brought to Cinsara as
a gift one of my predecessors. Have you heard of
Kanjara Kaijura, vicious peace? This ONEm grew to their maturity,
and now each season that ventures form its home and
slaughter as many of my people. We're formidable fighters, but
powerless against something of that size. Help us and I'll
help you. And Macy's like, I've never heard of Kaijura.

(15:09):
They're you know, I excuse me, ilas Is, I've never
heard of Kaijura, and May says they're exceedingly rare Qui
gon on Obi Wan encountered a herd on Barentia. And
we get an edge note thank you for that, and
that star Wars Jedia nine number three, A heard of those,
and you turn the page and get this great full
page spread. You know, they're standing on the rocks looking
down a valley and we see the Kaijura and it's

(15:30):
gargantuan and she's like, and they're still alive. Yeah, any suggestions.
So what happens is, you know, they ultimately they fight
it and kill it, but they kill it, but again
they take they take no pleasure in killing it. And
Isla is you know, is visibly upset about this, just
you know, it's a sad end for such a noble creature.

(15:51):
This is not the Jedi way. But then Mace comes
through and this is that this was some really good
writing by Mark Kugenheim here, I know, but the Kaijura
was taken out of its now environment. It's attacks were
a result of its suffering. Death was a release, and
we needed to do what we had to do to
save Qui Gon. So we cut back.

Speaker 1 (16:10):
What but one question real quick he made the comment
about it suffering, and is that is that just do
you think because it was not in its natural environment,
it wasn't around it's its own kind or something that
indica I think it was not acclimating well to this planet.

Speaker 2 (16:27):
No, it's I think it's just the fact that it's
not on its home world. It's not on Barandia, and
it's and it's it's not it's without, it's without, it's
it's heard and it's alone. You know, it's to me,
it harkens back to the Zilo Beast from the Clone Wars.

Speaker 1 (16:40):
That's what I was thinking. I'll buy that. Yeah, that's
that's good.

Speaker 2 (16:43):
So we cut back to Chorissant. They've got the antidote.
Qui Gon is you know, in the hospital. He's in
a he's a he's in an induced coma. And we
meet doctor Reegnema, Jedi physician, which is always very cool,
and they just you know, she has no idea how
long Qui gon will be in the coma.

Speaker 1 (17:02):
I guess he's got he's got to heal himself. Yeah. Yeah,
And I guess they don't. I guess, well, I guess
I was about to say, I guess they don't have
back to but I guess maybe they wouldn't need it
because it wasn't no eternal.

Speaker 2 (17:12):
Yeah, he was poisoned, so.

Speaker 1 (17:15):
Him like basically on like a ventilator of some sort.

Speaker 2 (17:17):
Yeah that's where we end. So uh and it looks
like we're gonna get a completely different story next issue,
which is gonna be a fun one because this is
the one that features uh Keller and Beck from the Mandalorian.
So you know, you know, play you know the character

(17:39):
that Acaman Beeth played, you know the guy who played
jar Josh right, right.

Speaker 1 (17:44):
Save the same Gurugu from the Temple.

Speaker 2 (17:46):
Yeah, so we're gonna do like we did two or
three issues ago. We're gonna sort of veer off of
the main story and do a side to a side quest. So,
and it's gonna be kind of cool because it's gonna
focus on soon a Taj, a young girl in the
strong in the Force who's in great danger, kidnaped by
a group of pirates. And this, you know, as it
says in the in the preview page, this unique story

(18:08):
is told for Soon his own eyes, making you a
force at tuned to young one. And I'm looking forward
to that because you know Mark, you know Mark og
and I has proven time and time again that you know,
he is more than comfortable stepping out of his wealth
for lack of a better turn his comfort zone right
and doing something unique and uh and interesting. And I'm
looking forward to this. So, I mean, I am still

(18:30):
kind of curious, I won't lie. I am still kind
of curious what's going on with with corless Wrath and
what the heck qui God did to this guy?

Speaker 1 (18:37):
Right, and I'm hoping we find that out and it's not.
We get to the end and it's like, find out
in our next mini series.

Speaker 2 (18:43):
Well no, we I know, we get at least twelve
issues based on this illicits for both trades, So I mean,
so hopefully it'll be resolved by that.

Speaker 1 (18:51):
Well, we'll take another short break and we'll be back
to discuss our offering from dark Horse.

Speaker 2 (18:55):
Heck, yeah, all right.

Speaker 1 (19:03):
Tales from the night Lands number one. I gotta say
this cover is my favorite that we've had maybe this year.

Speaker 2 (19:11):
You like it.

Speaker 1 (19:12):
I love this cover.

Speaker 2 (19:14):
I'm glad you like it.

Speaker 1 (19:15):
You're not a fan, No I am.

Speaker 2 (19:17):
That's it's a Francesco Francavilla cover, of course. Yeah no,
I never never seen the bad frank of Villa cover.

Speaker 1 (19:24):
No, this is just to me. This is the best
one he's done yet.

Speaker 2 (19:28):
Oh yeah. And so this this is essentially our this
year's you know, Tails from Vader's Castle. Uh. It's written
by Cavin Scott, It's illustrated by Sue Lee. The you know,
the the letters are by Commoncrafts, Tyler Smith and Jimmy
Baiton Court. Uh. And it it's a three issue mini

(19:48):
series that will not be done by the time Halloween arrives.
But each issue is set in a specific era. So
this one is the prequel Trilogy era, the next one
will be the UH the original Trilogy era, and then
the third and final issue will be the Sequel Trilogy

(20:08):
era UH. And basically it's it's Each story is set
on Rye Loth in the night Lands, which is.

Speaker 1 (20:18):
The UH their after their version of the Afterlife.

Speaker 2 (20:22):
Yeah, the tree Lex version of the Afterlife. You know,
you're the land of the Dead, and so naturally Cabin
Scott has proven time and time again that he is
very good at writing a very creepy story, and he
kind of does so here. Ah, this is this one
kind of veers a little more not so much into creepiness,
but you know, a little bit more suspense as.

Speaker 1 (20:43):
A little both I would say is this is this
is in keeping with with the tales from Vader's Castle
books that we've had before.

Speaker 2 (20:49):
Yeah, it was done in such a way that it's
nicely measured so that you know, again, because it is
an all ages book, so it's not over the top,
it's not gory, but it is you.

Speaker 1 (20:58):
Know, it's it's it's creepy. I I had forgotten that
it was considered an all ages book. Yeah, so at
the very end, the way things resolved.

Speaker 2 (21:07):
It's funny you say that, because I tend to forget
that pretty for pretty much all of dark Horse's books. So,
but you know, I mean, you know, I will not lie.
I am. I am a dark Horse, a dark Horse
Star Wars evangelist. When people, you know, you know, when
I'm at my comic shop, which is not as often
as I should be, what do you recommend it is
that well, you know, anything dark Horse is publishing, you

(21:27):
can't go wrong with. Oh, that's all ages said, Yeah,
but it's really well done.

Speaker 1 (21:31):
Yeah, all ages meaning all ages will enjoy.

Speaker 2 (21:33):
It, including your age from you know, from from from
two to one hundred and two. Yep, though you one
year olds and you you one hundred and three year olds,
you're out of luck. But so so this one, of
course features uh again Anakin Skywalker.

Speaker 1 (21:51):
A question before we dive in, I'm noticing in the
credits we have concept designs by Ian mckaig and Francesco Francavilla. Yes,
what is that indicate?

Speaker 2 (22:01):
Well, the very well the cover b for this book,
it's it shows Uh, the night Lander, and it's by
Ian McKay. Ian mckaigu did a lot of the concept
work for the prequel trilogy.

Speaker 1 (22:14):
Okay, so they're basically they just sort of designed what
the books are going to look like.

Speaker 2 (22:18):
Well, no, it's just kind of it's it's you know,
it's you know, the you know, Ian mccague, I think,
you know, just doing some of this work on The
night Lander. Uh. So, you know, it's so that's why
it's got this great sort of prequel trilogy vibe to it.
Uh and also makes it very creaking. And of course
Francesca Francaville, you know, Francisco worked on a lot of
the tales from Vader Castle tails from Vader's Castle books. Uh,

(22:41):
you know, not just covers, but you know some I
believe some interiors as well. And you know, but you know,
he's also you know, he's also done the Archie Horror
And again, as I have said before on this podcast,
even if you don't like Archie comics, yeah, oh my god,
they're so good. It's so good. So and uh and

(23:02):
they're not bound by all ages restrictions.

Speaker 1 (23:05):
Nice all right, sorry a little dive in So yeah,
like you said, Anakin and Uh and Obi Wan have
come to rile Off to help mourn the passing of
Tarmid Doll, head of the Twilight First Family.

Speaker 2 (23:17):
Mm hmm.

Speaker 1 (23:18):
And of course Anakin is chafing because he wants action.
I want adventure. He wants to go to Toashi Station
to pick up some power converters, and he says, we're
here to repay the republic respects master. When it says
they may, I suggest you try to remember the names
of those you were commemorating, Oh sick burn. Yeah, And
so he meant Doll and everything. And so he's Anakin

(23:40):
sort of meets his match with the daughter of Lady Ceci.
And I guess, is she the head of the fan
of the royal family now or the.

Speaker 2 (23:46):
First yes, or at least at least you know, the
she who is speaking for the for the family. So
and I just again I just want to say, you know,
and and you know, Suley's art here is really good
or you know, it's just he's got kind of.

Speaker 1 (23:58):
A blue hue to it, which I really like.

Speaker 2 (24:01):
Yeah, yeah, it's just got this wonderful tent to it.
And you know, Souley is just you know, you know,
it's it's it's almost uh, it's very European style by
my count you know, I'm I'm probably may be wrong,
you know, I'm I'm no expert, but it's just you know,
it's visually appealing, uh, you know, and and it captures
the impetuousness of Anakin and even you know, the uncertainty

(24:23):
of obi Wan. Uh, you know, and it's you know,
and it's and it seems to be, you know, sort
of dovetailing nicely with the last Anakin and obi Wan
miniseries we got from Marvel, which was the one that
you know, Charles Soul wrote many many years ago, the
one that you and I still rave about because it
was just so good, uh and didn't have and it

(24:45):
had no right to be so. But and yeah, you know,
so it's it's so it's you know, it's Anakin. He
wants to help out the granddaughter because you know, she's
she's aware that you know, yeah, he's dead. But then
she explains to Anakin, but tonight is the night American
Junction and grandfather was researching it before he passed. He
wanted me to be able to talk to him. And then,

(25:06):
you know, and her mom's like, oh, come on, not again.
Let's just let's just give it up and then and
you know, I'll be honest, just like I'm not even
sure what a night American junction is, Princess. And and
that's you know where the you know, the.

Speaker 1 (25:19):
The basically are all hallows Eve.

Speaker 2 (25:22):
Literally it's it's exactly what it's. Yeah, what's like what
Sam Hayne And I know I'm mispronouncing that soign so solid,
thank you, And and that's exactly what it is. And
you know, that's what the story details is, you know,
is Anakin helps the Princess Daisha uh to uh to

(25:42):
let her you know, full try to fulfill her quest.

Speaker 1 (25:45):
And what happens is we learned that it happens every
thirty years, the stars align the bill between the living
and the dead into such a garity that you could
talk to as they call him, the denizens of the
night Land. Yeah, and so what happens is, of course
Anakin decides he's going to help her do this because
he belie leaves that it can be done.

Speaker 2 (26:03):
Yeah. Yeah. And also what I think makes it even
more intriguing is the back This is not the first
time we've heard of the night American Junction.

Speaker 1 (26:10):
Oh was it not?

Speaker 2 (26:11):
No, this was actually mentioned in the High Republic. Uh,
and uh, you know it actually it was actually first
mentioned and Douku Jedi Lost and supposedly you know, which
was of course written by Captain Scott, you know that
audio drama.

Speaker 1 (26:26):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (26:26):
And it just rumor, you know. And the rumor in
the High Republic is that the Night American Junction was
allegedly tamed by the Sith Lord Darth Krawl. So kind
of interesting.

Speaker 1 (26:41):
If it was Diana's brother.

Speaker 2 (26:42):
Yeah, yeah, you know, we'll find out.

Speaker 1 (26:44):
So Dana Crawl that was just a bad joke.

Speaker 2 (26:47):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (26:49):
So what what I think is funny is Anakin tries
to use the Jedi mind trick on the guards and
it doesn't.

Speaker 2 (26:54):
Work fun with it because they're not taking it, sir,
and they're not mad at.

Speaker 1 (27:01):
The kid, right, and so he's what he does is
he he manipulates a sword out of a statue's hands,
and so they run to check that out, and that's
when they sneak in. And so the ritual works, but
it doesn't bring back her grandfather. She thinks it's her grandfather,
but it turns out that it's this sinister spirit called

(27:21):
what is his name?

Speaker 2 (27:27):
You got it? Come on, you can do this. I
believe in you.

Speaker 1 (27:32):
Well, I'm just gonna have to scrumb the night, thank you.
And so basically what we find out is all of
the spirits are getting free. You you you you have
recalled her to the light as we did long ago,
dooming ourselves as you are doomed. So these are all
the people that have died. Are we to assume this

(27:53):
is everybody just died or just the people that died
at night whatever's hand?

Speaker 2 (28:00):
I think it's probably just people who died on ryelof.

Speaker 1 (28:03):
Just the people, That's what I mean though, just people
from everybody from their culture pretty much.

Speaker 2 (28:07):
Yeah, okay, And it's very it's it's got a very
good Ghostbusters vibe to it, you know it does.

Speaker 1 (28:11):
But it's a little confusing because it also makes it
sound like they're all just in perpetual torment running away
from Nightlander.

Speaker 2 (28:19):
Well, it's because they are, because that's what we find out,
is it apparently, you know, the the the Nightlands are
not what you know they have they have been told
that it was you know it is. In fact, it's
a it's a place of demons. It's essentially, it's it's
you know, it's the rye off hell, you know, and uh,
you know they are not in a good place. They're

(28:42):
not very happy.

Speaker 1 (28:45):
So ultimately what happens is Anakin so this Nightlander appears
first as her grandfather, then appears as the Nightlander and
is trying to take uh, the little girl, to to
take over her body.

Speaker 2 (29:01):
Yeah, you know, to possess her so that she can
cross over for good and then so the night Lander
can wreak havoc outside of the nightlines.

Speaker 1 (29:10):
And that's what we say, because Anakin swites at it
and she goes, did you see that my saber passed
through the monster like she wasn't there? And Obi Wan
says that's because she hasn't possessed Dasha's body, and so
Anakin's going after her. They're both trying to pull her back.

Speaker 2 (29:25):
But thank goodness, this is young Anakin, who's still you know,
who's still got some innocence, because right if this was
twenty something Anakin, he's like, all right, well, just you know,
well what you should get, Well, we'll wait till Daisha
gets possessed of that just kill.

Speaker 1 (29:39):
Her killer, right, Well, And what's funny is and and
to that point as well, this the the Nightlanders is
even like taunting Anakin, saying, you know the real reason
you're helping this girl is because you was to speak
to one you lost, meaning Qui gone. And she's not wrong,
and he's not wrong at all.

Speaker 2 (29:58):
He's like, yeah, yea, I mean he's not acknowledging, he's
not admitting it, but yeah, he's like, man, all right,
that works.

Speaker 1 (30:05):
So he asked daysha Anakin says, how much time do
we have totally conjunction passes. She says minutes, maybe seconds,
and he says, uh, so you'll never save me in time.
And he says, well, maybe that's true, maybe it's not,
but maybe you don't have to be Nightlander's vessel. So
he offers himself up instead, and the Nightliner says, would
you sacrifice yourself for this goal? You barely noticeays why not,

(30:27):
it's what Qui Gon would have done that or play
for time, and that's when we get a beatb beep
on somebody's watch and the conjunction is over and we
see them see the night Landers slip back into the
uh the ghost trap as it were, or wherever. Yeah,
just get you basically yeah, and so they've they've Anakin

(30:49):
and Dasha fall. They're both fine. He says, how did
I do? Master? And Obi Wan says, Qui Gon would
have been proud as am I.

Speaker 2 (30:56):
Yeah, oh yeah.

Speaker 1 (30:57):
And so this is where we find out it happens
every thing years. What if she escapes the night lands?
What if she finds another vessel and Anakin says, we're
gonna be ready for it. The old Hag doesn't stand
a chance? Uh, and he says, and Obi wants to
don't get too confident, he says, not like the Jedi
going anywhere.

Speaker 2 (31:16):
Says, yeah.

Speaker 1 (31:19):
So we get this little to be continued in that
that that final image is so creepy with the three eyes.

Speaker 2 (31:26):
Oh yeah, it is. It is. It's super creepy. And
it's funny because if you look at all three covers
and the solicits, those three eyes all feature prominently.

Speaker 1 (31:33):
I know it's gonna be cool. So here's my here's
my question though, why couldn't they just you know, put
up a sign or something on that wherever that is
or whatever, pass it down and say, look, don't do this,
because this is what actually happens. Thirty years is not
that that long.

Speaker 2 (31:48):
Well, yeah, but you have to also remember, you know,
in thirty years time, people forgot that the Jedi existed, true.

Speaker 1 (31:53):
True eighteen years time. So but yeah, really really strong
start to this little mini series. I'm looking forward to
the next issue and the when I.

Speaker 2 (32:00):
Oh my god, I always look forward to Kevin Scott's
Star Wars Halloween stuff.

Speaker 1 (32:04):
I actually had a friend of mine. I had a
friend of mine who reads comics but not Star Wars
comics reach out and ask about Tails in Vader's Castle,
and I recommended it to him and he goes, Okay,
I'm just bought it just because, and he said, of
course he loves it.

Speaker 2 (32:16):
Good job you yeah, good job you do.

Speaker 1 (32:19):
So all right, well we'll take one more short break.
We'll be back to discuss Solicius for next week. Okay, okay, Matt.
If I'm not mistaken, and I usually am, we have
two books next week? Is that correct?

Speaker 2 (32:33):
We do? We do? We get the start of Boba Fette,
Black White, and Red, number one of four would be cool, yep,
And then we get Star Wars number five.

Speaker 1 (32:41):
All right, is Boba Fett And I may have asked
us before it does Boba fet Black White, and Red?
Make as much sense as Darth Vader black, white, and red,
since he is himself all his costumes all black.

Speaker 2 (32:50):
You know, initially he did not, but then you know,
having looked at the preview pages that I've seen, and.

Speaker 1 (32:57):
I wait, We'll be back next week to discuss that
and anything else that happens between now with Man until then.
For Star Wars splash pane on Jack, I'm still Matt.
We get a force feed with you always.

Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
