Boba Fett's back in Marvel's latest Star Wars-inspired Black, White & Red (not blood). The start of the four-issue mini-series (Boba Fett -- Black, White & Red #1 (of 4)) sees the erstwhile loner pitting rival factions -- the Rebellion and the Empire -- against one another in a way that leaves him better off than when he began.

Speaker 1 (00:00):
You're listening to Star Wars Splash Page Comics and Review.

Speaker 2 (00:05):
This is episode number four hundred and sixty eight, and
it's for all the haters out there, led by Jeff
Good evening, Jeff, how are you dig a.

Speaker 1 (00:19):
Stage spin mad, I'm hum as berf.

Speaker 2 (00:27):
Park On.

Speaker 1 (00:28):
I don't want sets running the Gallo scenes. We'd say, Man,
since I'm a hater, I guess I'm just gonna say
that life is pain and nothing good ever.

Speaker 2 (00:48):
Cuts of anything channel Damien from The Omen Part three
or two, all of them.

Speaker 1 (00:58):
Pam refuses to watch it movie just because of the
look the kid gives the camera at the end of
the movie.

Speaker 2 (01:03):
Well, the first one. I don't blame her. Yeah, I'm
still I'm still getting nasty looks from people of the
A few years ago, my Christmas cards I sent out
for everybody, it was the family Cortship from The Omen.

Speaker 1 (01:17):
I remember, I remember that. That was awesome. One of
my best friends is named Damien, so we have a
good time with that. Real quick movie talk. We'll see
the new Slash Last dount Nabby movie over the weekend. Yeah,
and I was grousing about it the whole time because
when they started announcing it, I told people, no, I said, well,

(01:41):
what I thought the last one was supposed to be
the grand finale. It's like, fine, we'll go watch this
cash grap halfway through a landover and I said, okay,
you know what, they can keep making Doubt Nabby movies
as long as they want, and I will come and
watch every single one. The movie is magical. If you've
seen Dowt Nabby, you know what I'm talking about. The
hype is earned from that series, from you know, a
decade ago. But this is a wonderful, wonderful sort of

(02:03):
wrapping up of the entire saga of Downton Abbey. So
if you're a fan and you've been on the fence,
go see it.

Speaker 2 (02:11):
So is it like Downton Abbey Part two of the
Downton Abbey Strikes.

Speaker 1 (02:15):
Back is sort of, it's it's closer to it's closer to. No,
it's closer to I'm trying to think of the return
of the Downton Abbey. So the return of the King
is a good sendoff for that series. So that's that's
what I'll call this one. I didn't want to call
it the Rise of Dalton Abbey because again, I'm a hater.

(02:37):
I hate Star Wars, Folks. The reason Matt says I'm
a hater is because of my opinions about one of
our books this week, which we'll get to in just
a second. We do have two books to discuss. We
have Star Wars the main title, number five, and we
have Boba Fette Black, white and Red number one. I
still say it should have been Boba fet Slate blue, olive,
green and yellow. But that's beside the point.

Speaker 2 (02:57):
Well, that doesn't really exactly roll off the tongue now,
does it.

Speaker 1 (03:01):
No, But it's more accurate. Again, I'm in hater mode.
But Matt, what kind of hater news do we have
for this hater week?

Speaker 2 (03:10):
Well, leading off our hater news, this is the week
that Dark Horses Kickstarter funded art of Star Wars a
New Hope, the Manga Collector's Edition goes live. And by live,
I mean it's going to be Tuesday, September sixteenth, and
we're recording this on Monday, September fifteenth. So I really

(03:31):
can't tell you anything else beyond that other than what
we've you know, we've publicized about this before when they
announced it, so you know, so it looks really good.
I don't know what the pricing is going to be,
but I imagine since we are now living in a
bifurcated economy where everybody seems to be appealing to the

(03:52):
people who have lots of lots of spare cash, it
will probably be pricing, especially for the really big tears.
But you know, we'll say. And then, of course we've
also our friends over at the Tractor Beam Live, which

(04:12):
is a great podcast that I like to watch on
Wednesday nights because they also break down Star Wars comics
in a very edifying and entertaining way. During Fan Expo Canada,
the podcast spoke live in Canada, EH with writer Ethan

(04:36):
Sachs and on the phone from Italy artist Polo Villanelli.
So as you can imagine, some great discussion about the
late and still lamented Bounty Hunters series, that forty two
isshur series that we just loved every month and it's
a lot of fun. And I can say authoritatively that

(04:57):
no necks who were harmed hearing the panel discussion, probably
much to Ethan and Pallow's lament. So definitely do check
that out. There's a link on the Facebook page as
well as on the Blue Sky Feed just you know,
it's a really good, strong listen. In addition to that,
of course, this is the week that our friends over

(05:19):
at the Boba Fett Fan Club are going to be
absolutely beside themselves because you know, there's a new Boba
fet comic book, and so they have a great interview
with the writer of this book at least his first issue,
Benjamin Percy, on their website, and of course you can
check out the link to that on the Blue Sky

(05:40):
Feed as well as a der Facebook page. Last week
we got a nice look at the Star Wars Beyond
Victory trailer. That's the I guess the sort of the
augmented reality virtual reality game for the Oculus. And yes,
that is Gracchus Hut in the in the video, so

(06:04):
kind of cool. I'm really stoked about that. Nice to
see another comic book character make the leap again. And
then of course I do want to, as always denote
that there's a couple of publishing delays from Dark Horse, so.

Speaker 1 (06:23):
I'm shocked.

Speaker 2 (06:24):
Well, well, the Hyperspace Story's previous trade paperback original graphic
novel is now due out February seventeenth. It had been
due out February tenth, and before that it had been
due out I think in February third. All total its
delays are you know, about a little more than a
month total, so you know, it happens, but it's not alone.

(06:46):
The code Breaker trade paperback, which is going to collect
Hyperspace stories code Breaker one through four, which was also
discussed by the way in the Tracker Beams podcast episode,
is now going to duet March third, And of course
I think believe next week we should probably be getting
Marvel's December solicits. We already we already got the one

(07:09):
for Legacy of Vader, but hopefully we will see the
return of doctor Afra Agent, you know, Chaos Agent, back
into the fold. And then of course we will be
eager to see the January solicits from dark Horse Comics
as well. And that, Jeff is I believe all the
news I have for you hate on it as you will, all.

Speaker 1 (07:32):
Right, I will hate all of that news as I
see fit. With that, we will take a short break
and be back to discuss Star Wars number.

Speaker 2 (07:40):
Five sounds like a plan. I'm here for that.

Speaker 1 (07:50):
All right. Star Wars number five of possibly ten twelve
something like that, probably ten attack of the Battle Droid.
We're finally getting at the Battle Droids we were promised
two issues ago. Sort of.

Speaker 2 (08:08):
Better late than ever, I guess.

Speaker 1 (08:10):
Yeah. Yeah, folks, this is this is a book that
Matt is calling me a hater on. I just I
had to tell him. I I just I have to
admit that I'm less than enthused about this series, which
which makes me sad. It's just not hitting for me.
I like the artwork and everything, I just the story
just seems awfully busy and convoluted for me to me,

(08:31):
and I just don't find it that interesting.

Speaker 2 (08:36):
Okay, that's fine. You know you're not the only person
to think that. Ah, And you know that's okay. I, however,
mildly disagree.

Speaker 1 (08:51):
I'm actually a Marvel shill and all that.

Speaker 2 (08:54):
No, that's true. That's true as long as those checks
keep coming. So just for the record, for anybody who
may be listening for the first time, we don't get
any money. Ye don't get any We don't get any
free stuff. We get review copies from Marvel and dark Horse.
But you know we are under no obligation. Two feverishly

(09:15):
like every everything that they send us, and we often don't.
So that said, I will say this about the Star
Wars Volume four that you know started this year. I
think the pacing is starting to pick up and you
know they're having to juggle, which you know, I would

(09:37):
say it's a pretty weighty subject. And the fact that
you know, this is our our interstitial, first interstitial new
canon content, you know, post Return of the Jedi, pre
the Force Awakens, you know, you know, with a focus
on the original trilogy characters. So that said, Star Wars

(09:59):
Issued VI Into the Past written by Alex Sigura. Art
is by Phil Noto. Letters are by Virtual Caligraphies Clayton Coles.
Phil Noto has the main cover. Alan Quah has a variant.
Chris broffs Karl's story in Ilaje may not have a
Revenge of the Sith twentieth anniversary variant. Iam just has
a cover uh and it's cool. Uh. John Tyler Christopher

(10:19):
also has an action figure variant cover. The editor the
assistant editors on this book are Mikey J. Basso and
Drew bam Gardner. Mark Ponzia is our editor. C. B.
Sebalski is Marvel's editor in chief for Lucasfilm. We have
senior editor Robert Simpson, Associate editor Grace URIs, Creative director
Michael Siglane, Art director Troy Alders. From the story group,
we've got Matt Martin, Pablo Hudalgo and Emily Shrukhani, and

(10:42):
creative art manager is Phil Showstack. So we have basically
twin storylines going on and we and we have since
the first issue. Uh, the overarching thrust is, you know,
is that Leah and Mathma are trying, you know, to
firm up the footing upon which the New Republic stands,

(11:04):
and of course a lot of that involved statecraft and
negotiations and essentially making their case to a lot of
somewhat weary worlds you know, you know, who have survived
the Clone Wars, have survived the era of the Empire
and are like, well, why what we know? What's in

(11:24):
it for us? H. At the same time, Luke has
you know, discovered that the Nagai are being exploited by
pirates in concert with the Zantark Gang, a group that
balanced by that violet balance gave balance, and Han Solo

(11:45):
had been tracking amongst all of this, a New Republic
trading vessel that it was attacked by the Antarc had crashed,
land on Laura Dill and the surviving crew cane face
to face with Clone wars Arab battle droids. Of course,
that spurred a lot of ringing of hands and clutching
of pearls by the New Republic, and so Luke, Han,

(12:08):
Balance and Renza not have gone to investigate, which is
where we find ourselves on Laura Dill and.

Speaker 1 (12:16):
Are Remember what I was saying about it being a
little convoluted, seeming a little convoluted and busy.

Speaker 2 (12:20):
It is. Yeah, I know it's and it's a valid
it's a valid it's a valid concern I think that
you're making. So anyway, you know, they land on Laura
Dill on the falcon. Uh look, let me be up front.
Phil Noto rocks hard, so hard, and uh you know,
just you know the way Phil draws, the way Phil colors,

(12:41):
it's all superb. So I apologize for the Morse code.
So I'm tracking the Phillies playing the Dodgers because I
really need the Phillies to win because they need to
clinch the NL least.

Speaker 1 (12:54):
Yes they do, yes they.

Speaker 2 (12:57):
So yeah.

Speaker 1 (12:58):
So even though so there's that.

Speaker 2 (13:02):
So they've landed. They're exploring they go into an old
building or perhaps you know eight. You know, it's a
it's the crash, it's the crash New Republic ship. Uh
and uh Han, I love the way Hanna's dress. He
sport in a white vest, you.

Speaker 1 (13:17):
Know, white vests. This is yeah, this is like the
the alternate costume Han, which we do, an alternate version
of an action figure, and I am all about it.

Speaker 2 (13:26):
So I'm sure, I'm sure, I'm sure there will be one,
you know, because Hasro. You know, despite it's a it's
embracing of the bifurcated economy as well. You can see
I'm a little tork about this whole bifricated economy. I am.
I hate a bifurcated economy. It's not fair. But I'm
sure they will probably deliver one, having you know, they

(13:47):
have done a few comics inspired figures in the past.
So uh So they find and they realize that, okay,
there's nobody here, but you know, it's still kind of functional.
So Ren is trying to at the ship up and running.
She does, and when they do, the lights come on
and they can see the massive firefight that has happened
inside the ship, and Han is wary. Luke of course,

(14:09):
is forever the Optimist, and as they walk down a
corridor we get to surrender immediately and Hans says, but
I'm not sure our trip to the other side the
other ship's going to be all that easy. You are
now prisoners of the Separatist Alliance and yeah, battle droids
led by some familiar entities from the Clone Wars TV show,

(14:31):
which I miss very much. And then we cut back
to Caltreas, where you know, last issue, Leah has sort
of been ambushed by stormtroopers, you know, or at least
people wearing storm trooper armor. Right, these are you know,
I guess you know this is the Xantarks and they

(14:53):
are slaving then guy, and then all of a sudden
there's an explosion. We see uh, the guy in shadow uh,
and it's just essentially a freedom fighter. It's Jesuit who
is rallying the the guy in the name of Garlev,

(15:18):
whom we encountered in the first issue. In the second issue,
you know who died Uh And Uh. It's great because
it's you know, we're seeing these these trodden the guy
in shackles uh and their oppressors have been gunned down
by jesreit you know, and ah, you know, and Jest
says that, you know, it's not as easy to be
glib mercenary when the very people you stood over boot

(15:42):
on their necks become your executioners. Now toward the President's chambers.
Let's find our oppressors and bring our blades of vengeance
down upon them. And then the other the other guy
looking at Jesuit, I thought you were dead. And Garland's name,
we fight for the guy. We fight, yes, Jesuit for Garland,
for Garland, for the guy. Cut back to the Han

(16:03):
and Luke and Wren and.

Speaker 1 (16:09):
And can we put can we put? Can we put
the kaibosh on naming characters names that are homophones for
other characters. I'm looking at you, Wren. I'm just gonna
say that I'm hating on everything. I'm just dealing and
everything tonight. I just I don't get it. But yes,
so so back there, they're trying, they're trying.

Speaker 2 (16:28):
To yeah, but you know you can't do. And then
of course, uh violence goes all iron Man with his
repulsor repulsors. But you know, again they're being swarm so
it's very difficult to all they say, however.

Speaker 1 (16:43):
And they're not humans, but they did do grab Wren
and take him, sorry her.

Speaker 2 (16:47):
Away, yeah much too uh, much to everybody's chagrin, particularly
Luke's uh and uh, they just, uh, they kind of
just let loose, you know. Yeah. So, you know, and
what we find out here is that, you know, these

(17:08):
battle droids, this complement of battle droids for the Separatist
Alliance had crashed on the planet a while back, and
we're never able to get off. So they don't know
the war's over, you know, I mean for them, they're
still in a state of active fighting active you know,
at state of active combat, which is why they're fighting them.
And you know, just when it looks like things are

(17:30):
gonna get better, it doesn't get better because a massive
battle droid shows up with a droidica, you know, and
that's where we sort of get the details. You know,
we were in route to Acamar when our ship was
brought down here on Lauraville. It has been years, but
now our enemies are plentiful and willing targets we can
hunt again. So meanwhile we're in uh, every resourceful pilot

(17:55):
and soldier has managed to you know, sort of escape
her captives the battle Dryish and you know, it has
made it to one of the other ships. It looks
like almost like she's made it to the downed Blockade Runner,
and all of a sudden, you know, we see from
off panel someone you know, with a gun extending a hand.

(18:17):
You a pilot, Listen what we're friends. We can help
you get out of here. You don't have to say it,
Twoice this way quickly. And then we cut back to
Chindrill and it's Leyah and mon So, you know, and
they're debating what's going on with the Almavar and the Piosi,
you know, who are making things very difficult for the
New Republic, especially now that they know who they're in

(18:39):
league with, as Leah says, and because you know, we
discovered that, as we discovered last issue, that Alma Var's
counselor is Pretur Cooyon as Rayna Oscure, which was you know,
of course Grand moth Adelheart's partner as Mon Mathmas duplicit
as partner, as Mon Mathma says. And Leah, you know,

(19:00):
it feels attentive regret, you know what we should have
searched for her after Jack, who assuming she was dead,
was a deadly miscalculation. Oscure or not, we have to
respond to the so called Funeral Consortium. Those planets take
their cues from Almabar and Piros, and they're uniting in
defiance of the New Republic and all we stand for.

(19:20):
And of course, Mahma, ever the rational, pragmatic stateswoman, my
mind is clouded by questions. How did the scuer survive?
How are the planets? How are the funeral planets being armed?
But one truth remains, and it comes down to why
we are here at all? What do you mean? Says
Lea asked Lea, The dream of this new Republic was
to create something better, not another vehicle of violence and hate,

(19:42):
but a tool of peace and unity. It pains me
for that dream to be tested so quickly while we
struggle to our feet. Leah responds, I know what you mean, man,
and I agree. But if we're to do this right,
then we must push for peace above all. And then
boom Alesha runs their Princess Chancellor. It's urgent. What's going on?
The Funeral Consortium has put together a fleet of warships

(20:04):
and they're heading toward New Republic space. Oh, fun that
should be good, right you? Know we're back. We're back
on Laura Dell. Han in Balance are fighting the you know,
the Battle Droid, you know, the Super Battle Droid and
the and the Droidica and you know, you know, Hans like,
I'm opening to any ideas you might have right about
now in Balances, as much as I hate to say it.

(20:26):
Our only shot might be to run for it. And
Han says, well, if we cut now, we might make it.
Looks us, hold your fire and get behind me. And
he goes all super Jedi, you know, and start slicing
and dice and everything. And he tells him head down
to that hall and take shelter. We're not gonna leave
a kid. I'll catch up. Then we find Ren. Let's
get out of here. Solo Skywalker gave us an opening.
Don't let it be in vain, So render now, Jena.

(20:47):
You are a prisoner of the Separatist theli it not now,
not ever, swum It goes flying. Meanwhile advances you know,
with you know, with with Balances of the Han. I'm
not sure how long to be able to hold the
droids off. Been trying to tap into the ship blueprints,
but my records don't include providence class vessels means you've
got to guess where the exits are. Well, there's got

(21:07):
to be something to here we can use, says Han
as he's looking through something. Meanwhile, lucas slicing and dicing anything.
Hans says, weapons shields. This ship is a relic. Luke
slices and dices up here some kind of compartment, and
then we cut back to Luke, who is They're all
sliced and diced, and the compartment that Han has opened

(21:28):
is crashed out of the floor. No, it can't be.
And then Luke gos to join them in balance as well,
isn't this what you were hoping for?

Speaker 1 (21:37):
Solo?

Speaker 2 (21:38):
And it's a cache of Clone Trooper armor, a fighting chance.
So so you know, that's you know, gives us our
great look at the cover for October first this year,
which is, of course, you know, the three of them
in Clone Trooper armor, right.

Speaker 1 (21:56):
All they're missing is Chebacca, you know, and Princess Leah.
So again, it just it's it's busy and it seems cluttered. Uh,
And that's the best way I can put it. I
can't explain why, you know, I have no problem with
with complex storytelling, with juggling storylines and everything. These just
I don't know, I just don't find any of it
that interesting. And I guess it's just there's a lot

(22:18):
of juggling and you know, and not much happening.

Speaker 2 (22:21):
I think it would be better if we've maybe broken
it down to sort of just two threads agreed and
focused on you know, and and and focused on a
thread per issue, or two threads per issue. Absolutely, I
am curious to see how Alex is going to tie
it all together by issue ten.

Speaker 1 (22:38):
Me too, me too. Like I said, I'm hoping that
at all that everything comes together. I just right now,
I'm just not enjoying it.

Speaker 2 (22:44):
Okay, all right, well you know you're allowed.

Speaker 1 (22:46):
Thank you. I appreciate that. All right, we'll take one
more short break anyway, right, we'll take one more short
break way back to discuss Boba Fad Black White and Red.
M Bubba Fette, Black White and Red. Number one of
is this four or five?

Speaker 2 (23:05):
Four four? Yeah? The BWR series are always four issues.
So what I was thinking, and I think the reason
being is, of course, you know, because they collect these
into treasury edition trade paperbacks, and then of course they
follow five or six months or even later, you know,
with normal sized trade paperbacks. Right. So right, so yeah,

(23:27):
all right, a little primmer for the Black White and Red. Uh.
You know, we've had Darth Maul, We've uh you know,
we've had you know, like Vader the Vader of course. Uh.
And these are if you're a cannon junkie, you know,
these are kind of cannon kind of not they're just

(23:51):
stories and they focus on their titular character and they
really sort of just take everything about that specific character
and just go nuts. I mean, I just you know,
they they floor it. You know, they're just the gas there,
just hitting the gas with these these stories. And the

(24:14):
reason why they're black, white and Red is because you know,
you can't call them black white and blood, which is
what Marvel's superhero versions are called.

Speaker 1 (24:22):
So oh see, I didn't know that. I didn't I
never knew that they did this with other oh yeah titles.

Speaker 2 (24:28):
Yeah, it's been actually a very successful run for Marvel.
You know, they've got a lot, you know, they've got
a lot of their characters and it's black, White, and
Blood and they're a lot of fun to read, you know,
because I mean they're just they're just visceral, violent, books,
and these are sort of the same way, but they're
not as violent because it is a Star Wars comic.

Speaker 1 (24:46):
They're just more action oriented than anything. They're focused on.

Speaker 2 (24:50):
And and singularly focused. And you know, if you're a
Boba Fet fan, you're gonna love this book. If you're
not a Boba Fet fan, you're not gonna love this book.
How Ever, that said, it's got a heck of a
creative team. Benjamin Percy is the writer for this first issue.
Chris Allen is handling the pencils. He's also handling the

(25:10):
inks with Craig Young. Rachelle Rosenberg is the color artist.
Uh and and I have actually read that colorists, you
think this would be an easy coloring job.

Speaker 1 (25:20):
Oh no, no, no, no.

Speaker 2 (25:21):
No it's not. It's no very difficult.

Speaker 1 (25:24):
I would imagine this would be This would be far
more difficult than than working with every color on the
in the palet.

Speaker 2 (25:30):
Oh yeah, oh yeah. And and as always, uh, you know,
Rachelle Rosenberg just brings the fire, you know, with with
her colors. Letters are by virtual calligraphy s. Joe Kramanya
and books like this is also a chance for the
letterers to really, you know, exemplify their work because you know,
I I have always maintained that letterers do not get

(25:54):
the the acknowledgment that they should be getting, which is
why we are. We always take great pains to focus,
you know, and things that they've done that we, you know, enjoy.
So the main cover of this book is by Alex
malieb and there are variants black whites and reds and
black white and Blood's always get really tons of good variants.
Other variants for this book include one by Jose Maria Casanovas,

(26:18):
Lionel Francis hu and Romulo Fajardo Junior, as well as
Carrie Andrews, who has one that is just absolutely fire,
as the kids say, or the kids probably don't say
that anymore. I'm really five to ten years behind behind
the polyglot so book designer. But the book designer is

(26:40):
Carlos Lau. The assistant editor is Mikey J. Basso, Mark
Benicia is our editor again. C B. Sebolski is our
editor in chief. And for Lucasfilm we have Grace Rris,
Robert Simpson, Michael Sigline, Troy Alders, Phil Shostak, and from
the Story group we have Pablo Hudalgo, Matt Martin, and
Emily Scukani. So this this this issue is called the

(27:01):
impossible job, and uh it is impossible, but it's Boba
fet It works out, and we open up on Stern
of four, which in a prison.

Speaker 1 (27:13):
That many the one we saw in and or yeah.

Speaker 2 (27:16):
Yeah, And I'm thinking that's probably by design, because I imagine
the Empire, you know, in the emit, you know, and
in the pursuit of efficiency sort of probably has a
template for its it's prison.

Speaker 1 (27:27):
Oh yeah, they're mass producer prison at a box, I'm
sure so.

Speaker 2 (27:31):
But uh, it's an escape is going on, and it's
Boba Fett who has broken in, who is grabbing take
dragging an inmate through the halls, as as the Imperial
guards are running around, you know, with their mag boots on.
Uh and through all of this, you know, especially on
the first page, we just have the the PA system.

(27:53):
All off shift prisoners sholl were made in their cells,
All on shift prisoner's shell remade IDOL at their stations.
All security personnel shall follow Luckdown protocols. Please be assured,
we are dealing with an inconvenience that will be solved shortly.
And that last group of lines is as you know,
features Boba fat So and it just you know, bug

(28:15):
Boba Fett has no problems well breaking breaking down and
breaking out. Uh. And the his quarry is just making
whoever you are, man, you're cripping crazy, you know. And
you know, just Boba fet has no qualms about shooting
anybody or everything to get everybody out. And so uh,
you know, you know, the guards just like I don't know,

(28:37):
you know, he's just like, but you don't just get
away with this sort of thing. The Empire will destroy him.
You are your bloody mind.

Speaker 1 (28:42):
There's no way out of he ay.

Speaker 2 (28:44):
And that's where we get Boba's narration. This was, by
anyone's standard's an impossible job, but Boba Fett always found
a way when others didn't, as long as the price
was right. So and that's where we turn the page
and we get this great full page splash of Boba
flying off the platform, uh, you know, with the guy
in tow, you know, gripping by being gripped by Bob.

(29:06):
But you know they're going to come after it. She
can't beat the empire. He didn't want to beat the empire.
And the repellion didn't interest him. That was on nobody's side
but his own. He just wanted to get paid.

Speaker 1 (29:16):
And it's not really so much his inner monologue as
it is just like like an omniscient narrator.

Speaker 2 (29:22):
Yeah, yeah, unless he's.

Speaker 1 (29:23):
Preferring to himself in the third person.

Speaker 2 (29:24):
And from there we go, you're you know, you're right,
it's it's our narrative.

Speaker 1 (29:28):
So we go to Ergashui where he turns the guy
in and uh, you know, get you know again, gets paid, says, now,
pay what you promised me some guy named Tusk who
looks like a two horned rhino very much. So, so
they pay the pay the bounty hunter electronic high denomination
as requested, and uh, he says, if you want to live,

(29:51):
to spend those credits that advise you to hurry on
your way. And so they just dropped this guy into
a pit and uh he's and so tuss if this
one did me dirty a while back, the only reason
I wanted him alive is because I needed dissatisfaction of
seeing him die. So he paid Boba Fet to bring
this guy to him just to kill him, even though
he was in prison and probably likely never getting out

(30:14):
and uh he says, you know, you should watch your back.
If you're willing to sell out to anyone, then everyone
will sell you out in turn. And of course he
gets beset upon by a bunch of stormtroopers. He told
him to drop his blasters, so they take him onto
a ship. And what is this ship? Matt? On this
next page, he's with these big satellite dish looking things.

Speaker 2 (30:34):
Oh, this is uh, it's a starter. It's a it's
a it's an interdict. It's star destroyer interdictor Okay, one
of this is one of my one of Ralph Macquarie's
or this is one of the concept designs for a
Star Wars destroyer.

Speaker 1 (30:47):
Okay, I hadn't seen one before, so yeah, it was
just a little little, uh a little curious about it.

Speaker 2 (30:53):
So yeah, this, I think this is like that's like
from like like God, like like the early seventies, you know,
when when I guess him and Lucas had just hired,
you know, gotten hired required to do it, so uh
you know they uh they even made a toy of
it because I I finally found it and I was
so happy to get it. H you know, like like
it was like in the last four or five years.
It made like a little little little uh die cast thing.

(31:16):
So that's awesome. Oh okay, Oh love love this uh
love this ship design.

Speaker 1 (31:21):
So so what what happens is they've they've got him
in they've got him in a in a cell, but
they haven't taken any of his guns, or his his
his suit or anything. And he says uh. He says,
feed assumes there's a deal to be made. And he says, uh,
I would expect someone in a cell to be a
touch more deferential. In fact, I'd love to see you
down on your knees begging for forgiveness.

Speaker 2 (31:42):
Yeah, and you you know where you've seen this ship? Right? No,
it's and Or. Okay, that's the ship that luved and
rail destroyed.

Speaker 1 (31:53):
Okay, Okay that I it looked vaguely familiar, but I
didn't remember seeing the satellite dishes on it.

Speaker 2 (31:59):
So yeah, no, it's that's that's that's it. It's it's
called it's an arrest or cruiser as well.

Speaker 1 (32:03):
Okay, so this uh, this imperial officer which has this gnarly,
gnarly scar going down her her eye.

Speaker 2 (32:12):
I got to correct some of them too. I was
totally wrong. Ralph mcquarie didn't design it. Colin can't well
apparently designed it.

Speaker 1 (32:21):
You're gonna have to answer all the emails I've already
been sent.

Speaker 2 (32:24):
Oh boy, yeah mm.

Speaker 1 (32:26):
So uh so tear tears up the the data card
that has his pay on it from his from his
last job, and uh gives him. They give him a job.
They said, there's a press uh to the empire generosity.
As you might expect, this is Banton Jabbar depending on
your point of view. He's either one of the greatest
or one of the worst thieves in the galaxy. So, uh,

(32:48):
they're they're hiring him to go hunt this guy down.
And so what happens is he hunts him to this
uh to a lava planet, finds him. I don't want
to spoil this because I want people to read it.
But he finds him and then they sort of take
him hostage. This guy sort of takes him hostage, and uh,
basically what he does is genius. He gets away and

(33:12):
goes to find he gets gets beset upon by another crew.

Speaker 2 (33:15):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (33:17):
Who what is this guy? Who is this guy's name?

Speaker 2 (33:20):
This is the Rebellion crew.

Speaker 1 (33:22):
Right this Oh it's there, Yes, the Rooker it's the
it's the Rebellions version of a Saugerera. Tell me I'm wrong.
But they they send him to Fine and they said,
you know, if you can find him, you know, bring
him to us. And so fet basically uh find finds
a guy, gets and the guy it's a whatever dexter

(33:45):
Jetster's species is. Is this this guy that he's after besialist?
Thank you? So it gets him and in order to
uh make sure he gets he gets his record expunged,
he sends a hologram to the Empire. Andy sends a
hologram to Rooker and tells him, you know, I'm gonna
give send you my coordinates, meet me there, And of

(34:07):
course he's not there. He sent them to one another exactly.

Speaker 2 (34:11):
You know.

Speaker 1 (34:11):
But they clear his record first. Yeah, and he's got
he's got a thermal detonator in this guy's mouth that
he's delivered to them, and so they get rid of
his record so that he doesn't doesn't blow the guy up.
And it ends with him with with the the rebels
showing up and then getting into a firefight. It ends

(34:31):
with him saying he'd done his job his way. He's
done his job and done it his way. Now it
was time to move on the lawless frontier. Space was
calling to him, and now we're going to get our
next issue is is in October. But yeah, really really
fun book.

Speaker 2 (34:45):
Yeah, it's just it's just a blast. It's a riot,
you know, it's just and it's just the way it's
you know, it's it's you know, it's one and done,
which I think is great. We get some great you know,
we got some great Bubba feed action. We get some
great space battles, you know, man, we get you know,
we get to see some great tie fighters. You know,
we get this you know, Y Wings X Wings, you know,
the the arrest Or Star Destroyer. It's just it's great.

(35:06):
It's a lot of fun. Uh, you know, and that's
you know, I won't lie. I can't wait for this
to come out in a Treasury edition because it's gonna
be fun pouring over each page.

Speaker 1 (35:15):
Agreed, Agreed, all right, Matt, what have we got for
next week?

Speaker 2 (35:21):
Just one book? Jeff, it's weird, I know, right, all right,
Doctor Afra Chaos Agent number four.

Speaker 1 (35:28):
And that's it.

Speaker 2 (35:29):
That's it.

Speaker 1 (35:29):
So we got all right, We'll be back next week
to discuss that and anything else. That happens between now
and then in the world of Star Wars comic. Until then,

Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
