Speaker 1 (00:00):
You're listening to Star Wars Splash Page Comics and Review
episode number four hundred and seventy, and uh, this is Matt.
I'm flying solo this week because Jeff had some prior
commitments and you know, that's life.

Speaker 2 (00:14):
That's how it happened. Dig me ay spin Mad, I'm
gonna be as beerf.

Speaker 1 (00:26):
Park On.

Speaker 2 (00:27):
I don't want seats running the gallo sy not a
whole lot to discuss on this week on the.

Speaker 1 (00:45):
US, and then of course we have the retinue of
news news obviously.

Speaker 2 (00:54):
As for news, there's not a whole lot going on
per se.

Speaker 1 (00:58):
If you check out the Facebook page and the Blue
Sky feeds, you can check out some previews from the
oft delayed Hyperspace Stories Grievous original graphic novel from Kyle Philippe.

Speaker 2 (01:12):
We've got four panels. Looks really good. This book, I
believe is now due out March third, so.

Speaker 1 (01:19):
I you know, eventually it'll get here. You know, we'll
see if we get any more of these. Announced at
the New York Comic Gun later this month. Also, Jason Aaron,
you know, at at a convention, had noticed they had
some unusual guidelines that were issued issued to him by
Lucasfilm back when he was writing the twenty fifteen run

(01:40):
of the then relaunched Star Wars series. We've got some
more preview pages of the art of Star Wars A
New Hope, the manga by Isao Tamaki kickstarter that you
know has not only been successfully kickstarted, but is just
rapidly overtaking its stated goal, and it continues to climb
higher and higher, and perhaps more importantly, we have a

(02:04):
short four page preview of October twenty seconds Star Wars
Jedi Knights number eight by way of Mark Guggenheim. On
this of course, this show is Matta becmus Musabaykov's art.
This issue is done pretty much entirely from the viewpoint
of a young Padawan who has been selected to join
the Order. Guggenheim has said before on social media that

(02:28):
this is probably the most favorite story he's written, and
just based on the initial three pages, it looks like
it's gonna be a tugging at the heartstrings sort of story.
So with that, we will take a short break and
then we will jump right into Star Wars number six. Okay,

(02:48):
so this is Star Wars number six. It is written
by Alex Sigora art is by Phil Noto letters or
by virtual calligraphies.

Speaker 2 (02:55):
Clayton Coles. Phil Moto is the cover artist. There are
some variants.

Speaker 1 (02:59):
Bengal has a Jedi Knight's variant, John Tyler Christopher has
his action figure variant, and then of course there is
a variant by Jose Maria Casanovas, as well as Luke
Ross and Alex Sinclair.

Speaker 2 (03:11):
Mikey J.

Speaker 1 (03:11):
Basso is our assistant editor, Mark Paniczia our editor, and
Ceb Siebelski is the editor in chief for Lucasfilm. We
have senior editor Robert Simpson, Associate editor Grace Arris, Creative director,
Michael Siglane, Art director, Troy Alders creative art manager. It
is Bill Shostack, and from the story group, we've got
Matt Martin, Pablo Hidalgo and Emily Scuccani. The title of

(03:32):
this issue's story is Revolution, and just to bring up
to date, the Nagay Pirates and Xantark Gang have led Luke,
wren Han and Bilert across the galaxy in a bid
to stop becoming attack on the fledgling New Republic. Meanwhile,
Princess Leah Organa is still struggling to convince other systems

(03:53):
to join the New Republic. Unfortunately for the prior group,
they are stuck on Laura Dill and having to fight
their way out of a general morass of battle droids
from the Clone Wars.

Speaker 2 (04:09):
And so it's kind of cool, and you know, the
story has got a really good solid pacing.

Speaker 1 (04:12):
There's a lot of fighting, but it's kind of cool
to see to see our original trilogy heroes wearing Clone
Wars era.

Speaker 2 (04:22):
Kit, particularly a Clone War armor trooper. So it's really cool.

Speaker 1 (04:26):
And the battle droids, of course, are still quite quite deadly,
if not inaccurate in their shots. But you know, there's
this one page, like it's page two digital page three
where you know, vilert Han and Luke come out dressed
up in the Clone Trooper armor and you know, firing away.

Speaker 2 (04:48):
So what's interesting is.

Speaker 1 (04:52):
On Blue Sky, Justin Acklin, who's a friend of mine
and actually asked Alex Agora the writer, you know, is
Luke's Clone Trooper outfit a tribute to my boy Glitch.

Speaker 2 (05:02):
He says, please say yes, please say yes, And.

Speaker 1 (05:04):
Of course Alex said sure, although you know, kind of
tongue in cheek, and of course you know the reason
that I bring that up is because Justin had written
a great story back in December twenty twenty regarding regarding
you know, a clone trooper holding a lightsaber. So check
out our Blue skyfeed you to see more about that
if you want. But you know, they're doing some great

(05:26):
slicing and dicing and holding their own against these clone troopers.
And then you know, all of a sudden they're not
clone troops, excuse me, battle joys. But then all of
a sudden you get a two page spread and the
cavalry has arrived, so to speak, and Lucas, just like
I do not like our odds here. Meanwhile, back on Schandrilla,
Mathma and Leya are realizing that their efforts to contain

(05:47):
the Funeral Consortium have ended, especially diplomatic efforts, and of
course that has Leaya a little bit, you know, disturbed,
because you know, we what we go back to, eternal
interminable war is this is this how our and revolution
ends the second our metalist tests and we fall back
to old habits we treat we answer threats and violence
with bigger threats and violence. So much for the New Republic.

(06:07):
Then you know, if we have to fight, we will fight,
but we did dream of a softer way. I didn't
imagine it way less reliant on anger and violence. And
math is like, look, you know, we've we've done everything.
We've offered the Piros and their allies, everything we've been,
you know, on the hand of friendship. You know, she goes,
I mean, you know, and you know, Lea and Mathma
have to realize that, you know, forging a new republic

(06:28):
is hard work, and the ideals of revolution sometimes have
to be cast aside, maybe even temporarily. So uh and
you know that's and that's essentially what happens here is
there's a lot of give and take in this issue,
you know, of you know, realizing you may have a
lofty goal, but sometimes you may have to eat away

(06:49):
at that to get your success.

Speaker 2 (06:51):
So and it's it's it's quite intriguing. So but it
keeps on going on.

Speaker 1 (06:57):
But still, you know, there's also this sort of sense
of frustration because you know, once he seems like you
you you cross this crevass, all of a sudden you
have just even more resistance approaching you. So meanwhile, you know,
Wren is talking with some of the members of the

(07:18):
New Republic.

Speaker 2 (07:19):
You know, from the.

Speaker 1 (07:20):
Freighter who had been who had crashed on Laura dill
uh and you know, you know, so you know, and
so she's talking to the crew of the Neckroom's wake
and you know, you know, you know, they're saying, look,
the pirates shouts down for a reason, and ren is like, well,
this reason better not be the kind I need to
shoot introduce in the Pilot's like, no, no, no, Ren
quite the opposite.

Speaker 2 (07:38):
This is a friend. And we are introduced to Marntiff.

Speaker 1 (07:43):
And he is in the guy for whom the pirates
the Zantark were after because of everything he knows and
everything he is. So he's also a follower of Garlav,
you know, a freedom fighter who we met in the
first and first couple of issues. And of course Wrenn says,
you know, look, the Xantark, they work for the Federal Planets.
They're trying to destroy everything the New Republic is building.

Speaker 2 (08:03):
But have so and.

Speaker 1 (08:07):
You know, he explains, because well, look, the antarch, our manipulators,
their leader, Golana Vink, is a traitor to the Nagai
in our ways. She's corrupted us, taken our children, our brothers,
and our sisters, and they've allied themselves with monsters to
gain wealth and power with the Anzati Witch, and of
course the witch is Oscure from the Battle of Jakum
MAXI series. They think that by killing us and killing Garla,

(08:28):
they will crush our spirits. And of course Ren is
like the Azati raina Oscure. She's behind it all, which
of course makes sense, you know, given what we saw
in the Battle of Jaku. So you know, with this knowledge,
you know, she's talking, you know, and explaining a little
bit more to Martev about what's going on, and you know,

(08:50):
he's saying, look, then the guy always had always fight
for our freedom with our lives, to ensure the freedom
of our children, of our people, the way Garl taught us.
So and that's you know, kind of where we get
set up. Meanwhile, Luke and han Uh managed to stir
up extra courage Uh and Moxie to to fight the

(09:11):
battle droids, and they are aided by the by the
the crew of the of the New Republic freighter as
well as Wren Uh and Uh. So you know, Balance
explains everything to han and Uh you know, you know,
and Lucas like, you know, we've got to go back.
We have to go back to Caltrace and Haunt is like,

(09:32):
why said then the guy They're taking one last shot
at Oscuer at the end the funeral consortium. This is
their only chance a true freedom. You know, say no more, kid,
says Han, I owe garlive that much. And back on
Caltross we see Oscure talking, you know, to the Chancellor,
so you know al al al Almavar uh and uh.

(09:55):
You know, they get word that the the guy have
attacked and of course you know, a rebel negotiator is there.
And as the Prime Minister in Osker leave, the rebel
negotiator you know, gets contact, makes contact with Leyah. I
made visual contact. Princess Oskier and Almavar are heading to

(10:17):
the intercept. Good work, agent, bast you, you know, your
order's agent. Do what you must for the new Republic.
And this look on Leah's face is just stirring because
Leah is realizing that she is going to have to
set aside her personal values and you know, for the
safety and the health of the new Republic.

Speaker 2 (10:35):
And it's a big step. We'll see if it happens.
The next issue, number seven.

Speaker 1 (10:39):
Is due out November twelfth, so we'll we'll see if
that comes to pass, so we'll take another short break
and then we'll come back with solicits for next week.

Speaker 2 (10:50):
And here we go for next week. Get two books.

Speaker 1 (10:54):
First off, on Tuesday, October seventh, we get The Legacy
of Vader Volume one, The Reign of Kylo Wren and
that collects the for six issues of Legacy of Vader.
And then on Wednesday, October eighth, we get Han Solo
one for the Falcon number two of five and Hyperspace
Stories Tides of Terror number two four.

Speaker 2 (11:11):
That should be fun week and you should have back.
So I'm Matt, and I thank you for listening to
especially give me a song that I'm still recovering from
COVID so Mad the the Star Wars splash page.

Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
