Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hey everyone, welcome back to the Start Thinking Forward Podcast.
I'm Brandon L. Draper and you're here on day six
of our twenty two day journey. We're building a life
of intention, action, and success one step at a time.
Over the last few episodes, you've clarified your vision, set
actionable goals, and started creating habits that bring you closer

(00:22):
to the life you want. Today, we're going to talk
about something that makes or breaks every journey, mindset. Today's
episode is about building the kind of mental resilience that
keeps you moving forward no matter what. We're talking about
pushing past limiting beliefs, conquering self doubt, and creating a
mindset so strong that it aligns with your vision and

(00:45):
fuels your goals. Because let's be real, the path to
success isn't always smooth. You'll face challenges, setbacks, and even
your own inner critic. But with the right mindset, none
of that has to stop you. So if you're ready
to strengthen your inner game to build a mind that's
as resilient as your goals, let's dive in. Let's start

(01:08):
by talking about why mindset matters. According to doctor Carrol Dweck,
a renowned psychologist from Stanford University and author of Mindset,
The New Psychology of Success. There are two primary types
of mindset, fixed and growth. In a fixed mindset, people
believe that their abilities, intelligence, and talents are static they

(01:30):
can't change. This mindset leads to avoidance of challenges, fear
of failure, and a tendency to give up easily. In contrast,
a growth mindset is grounded in the belief that abilities
and intelligence can be developed through dedication and effort. A
growth mindset encourages resilience, a love for learning, and the

(01:52):
courage to embrace challenges as opportunities for growth. This episode
is about building that growth mindset, creating resilience, and mastering
the way you talk to yourself. Real life story from
limitation to liberation. Let's take the story of Maya, an
artists who faced years of self doubt and rejection. She

(02:13):
had a talent for creating beautiful, intricate paintings, but always
felt limited by an inner voice that told her she
wasn't good enough. Every time she tried to showcase her work,
that voice would whisper, who do you think you are?
For years, Maya let this belief hold her back But
one day, after reading about growth mindset, Maya started challenging

(02:36):
that inner critic. She stopped seeing rejection as a reflection
of her worth and started seeing it as feedback. As
a stepping stone. She shifted her focus from being perfect
to getting better. Today, Maya has exhibited her work internationally
and her art has become a source of inspiration for
countless people. Her transformation started with a simple shift in

(02:59):
mind mindset from limitation to liberation. Let's get practical. Take
a moment to write down any limiting beliefs that have
held you back. These could be thoughts like I'm not
smart enough, I'll never succeed, or I'm too old to
start something new. Be honest with yourself and don't censor.

(03:20):
The first step to breaking free from these beliefs is
recognizing them. We all have an inner critic, a voice
that questions our worth, doubts our abilities, and highlights our mistakes.
According to doctor Kristin Neff, a pioneer in the field
of self compassion from the University of Texas, the inner
critic is often a learned behavior developed as a form

(03:44):
of self protection, but while it may intend to protect,
it often holds us back. By creating fear and self doubt.
Research on self compassion and success. Doctor Nef's research shows
that people who self compassion, who treat themselves with kindness
and understanding in the face of challenges, are more resilient

(04:07):
and better equipped to face setbacks. Self compassion doesn't mean
ignoring mistakes. It means responding to them with kindness instead
of criticism, which helps you stay motivated and reduces the
impact of failure on self worth. Take one of the
limiting beliefs you wrote down and reframe it with self compassion.

(04:29):
If your inner critic says I'm not good enough, reframe
it to I am capable of learning and growing. Use
this new phrase as a counter to your inner critic.
Each time that thought arises, write it down, repeat it,
and make it a habit. Resilience is the ability to
bounce back from setbacks to keep going even when things

(04:51):
get tough. Psychologists refer to resilience as a psychological muscle
that grows stronger with use. Studies by doctor Angela Duckworth,
a psychologist at the University of Pennsylvania an author of Grit,
The Power of Passion and Perseverance, show that grit sustained
passion and perseverance is a greater predictor of success than talent.

(05:14):
Resilient people see failures as temporary, as a part of
the journey rather than the end of it. They believe
they can grow, learn and adapt. Case study The Grit
of entrepreneurs The story of Alex. Consider Alex, an entrepreneur
who faced multiple business failures. After each setback, Alex found

(05:37):
a way to extract a lesson, to analyze what went wrong,
and to keep moving forward. It wasn't that he wasn't discouraged.
It was that he refused to let failure define him.
Over time, his resilience paid off, and today Alex runs
a thriving business. His grit, his refusal to give up,
became his greatest asset. Resilience isn't about ignoring failures, It's

(05:59):
about learning from them. Think back to a recent setback
you faced. What lesson did it hold? How did it
help you grow? Write down what you've learned and how
you can apply it going forward. Reflecting on resilience helps
you build the mental strength needed to bounce back. The
language we use with ourselves has a profound impact on

(06:21):
our mindset. Doctor Martin Seligmann, known as the father of
positive psychology, has shown that people who engage in positive
self talk, especially in the face of challenges, are more
likely to persevere, less likely to experience depression, and generally
more successful in reaching their goals. Think of a challenging

(06:42):
goal you're working toward. Create a phrase or affirmation that
reinforces your ability to achieve it, such as I am
capable of achieving my goals, or every challenge makes me stronger.
Write it down, repeat it every morning, and use it
as a remot whenever you face doubts. Cognitive behavioral therapy

(07:05):
CBT techniques are powerful tools for mastering mindset and overcoming
limiting beliefs. CBT is grounded in the idea that thoughts, feelings,
and behaviors are interconnected, and changing negative thought patterns can
lead to more positive behaviors. Thought reframing involves identifying negative

(07:25):
thought patterns and consciously replacing them with constructive ones. For instance,
instead of thinking I always mess things up, reframe to
I'm learning and improving every day. Studies show that consistent
practice with reframing can lead to long term changes in
mindset and behavior. Each night, reflect on any negative thoughts

(07:48):
you experienced that day, write them down, then consciously reframe
each one into a positive or neutral thought. This practice
helps you recognize and transform limiting beliefs over time. Impostor
syndrome is the feeling of not being enough or fearing
that you don't deserve your success. It's common among high

(08:09):
achievers and can be a major obstacle to confidence. A
study by doctor Pauline Klantz, who coined the term impostor syndrome,
found that even accomplished individuals experience self doubt, but the
key to overcoming it is to recognize and challenge these feelings.
Story of overcoming impostor syndrome The journey of doctor Lisa.

(08:34):
Doctor Lisa, a highly accomplished surgeon, felt like a fraud
every time she received praise. She questioned her abilities and
feared that others would find out she wasn't as capable
as they thought. But through therapy and personal work, she
began to see her achievements as a result of hard work,

(08:55):
not luck. She started acknowledging her worth, and that shift
helped her step into her role as a leader with confidence.
When you feel like an impostor, list out your accomplishments
reflect on the work, effort and resilience that brought you there.
Remind yourself that you deserve to be where you are

(09:16):
because you've earned it. Visualization isn't just for setting goals.
It's also a powerful tool for overcoming challenges. Studies have
shown that visualizing success, including the obstacles you'll face and
how you'll overcome them, can increase resilience and reduce fear.
Take a few minutes each day to visualize yourself facing

(09:37):
a challenge. Imagine how you'll respond with confidence, how you'll
push through in a sense of accomplishment you'll feel on
the other side. By visualizing resilience, you train your mind
to be more adaptive and capable in real life scenarios.
To maintain a resilient mindset, consistency is key. Building daily

(09:57):
habits that reinforce resilience and power positivity strengthens your ability
to stay grounded and focused. Start each day with a
morning affirmation that reinforces your resilience, such as I am
capable of handling anything that comes my way. At night,
reflect on the day, acknowledging any setbacks, and affirming what

(10:20):
you learned from them. This practice helps you stay focused
on growth and improvement. Our sponsor, Cerebroai, offers tools designed

empowered mind. Today's episode was about strengthening the most important
part of your journey, your mindset. Remember, resilience isn't a
one time act. It's a daily choice. Each step, each challenge,
in each victory builds the mindset you need to achieve

(11:03):
your vision. If this episode resonated with you, share it
with someone who could use a mindset boost. Remember you're
not alone on this journey. Together we're building the resilient
strength and mindset needed to achieve greatness. Until next time,
keep moving forward, keep believing in yourself, and keep thinking forward.
