The creator of SSWYP believes that there is no such thing as “I survived –period.” Because survival is a process and a life long journey. Each of us is the sum total of all that we have experienced in our lives and these experiences create the lens through which we view our lives, the world and various situations.

Host Gigi Blackshear interviews persons from various walks of life who have faced challenges ranging from drug addiction, rape and sexual assault, domestic violence, etc. These guests have learned to use the ugliness and darkness of their pasts to find a glimmer of hope and strength, moving from darkness to not only discovering their purpose, but to be able to walk boldly in that purpose.
