Vernon dot Com, brought to youin part by melbournon Tourism and Enjoy Illinois.
This is five ninety the Fans CAFand s Wood River, Saint Louis,
a zebrast media station. My headcheck by a jumbout check. It

(00:46):
wasn't easy the time. Welcome backto the second hour of STL Soccer Sunday.

(01:15):
This is Jordan Williams. Here's yourhost, Tom Schwartz. Thank you,
Jordan. You like Blur? Ilike that song. I do too.
I can't say I know too manymore, but I do. I
don't know any of the other songs, but I love that song. Ladies
and gentlemen on the phone from flyOver Footy the man who knows the x'es
and o's of Saint Louis City scand I would be curious to have him

(01:40):
explained those x's and o's after lastnight. Matt, are you there,
I'm here, Tom. How's itgoing? Oh man? That was rough?
Yeah, tell me about it.Tell me what I saw. Yeah,
you didn't see a lot from theSt. Lonas offense, that's for
sure. You saw the positive. And let's get a positive out of the
way, because there's a lot offrustration boiling over right now. The positive

(02:05):
is a defensive side, not justRoman Burkey. But this was the Portland
Timbers team coming in that was aboutto set or on pace to some new
record for their entire club and theirhistory for goals per ninety. This is
the high score, high scoring team. They had no problem scoring goals coming
into this. They were on agood streak in their last few games.
They were climbing the standings and SaintLouis shut them down. Matt, Okay,

(02:28):
Matt, Matt, Matt, stopright now, because I already feel
better about last night because I hadn'tpaid attention to that fact. Okay,
Matt continues, It has to behas to be said right because Okay,
Portland had had two attacking players,Evander and Jonathan Rodriguez. These they're designated
players who were rubbing rough shot overthe Western Conference in their past few games.

(02:52):
And Thomas Totland's work on the rightside to shut down Jonathan Rodriguez,
uh, the overall work to limita Vanders role in this It was.
It was remarkable in what Portland hadbeen doing before this game as a game
plan to a t in preventing shotsand shots on target by Portland. Very
little was done to harm the SaintLouis City defense. There was there was

(03:15):
not many chances given. But onthe other side, this is where this
is where the bad feelings come in, is Saint Louis couldn't They didn't.
It wasn't just that Saint Louis couldn'tget a quality shot on the gold because
that's been the conversation a lot lately, Miami notwithstanding, because when he scored
three, everything's better. It's notjust the quality of shots on target,

(03:37):
but it is the ability to actuallyput yourself in a position to take a
shot target. And what I meanby that are look at Klaus in particular,
he had two moments. One wasthe backpass interception at the beginning of
the second half that he I wastalking to Santi this morning on Flyervers Fallout

(03:59):
when we were record and I madethe observation that it seemed like Klaus has
a lack of confidence, meeting himto second guess things that he would have
in twenty twenty three an initial andthat's what happened in this opportunity for the
back pass right because he could havetaken a shot almost immediately from when he

(04:19):
had it or gone or directed, but instead he tries to play it around
the goalkeeper and it doesn't work. The other option for Klaus, or opportunity
rather, is the throw ball fromEddie Lubin, and this is the absolute
best chance in the first half.Eddie Lubn does exactly what we hope and

(04:40):
want to see from Edue Lubn beingon this field, he had an opportunity
there. He was looking two defendersin the face. He had space being
given because the defense was dropping backso deep. They weren't respecting Luvin to
play with the ball. They wereexpecting him to pass the ball around or
send it a cross or a highball. And what he did is he
took the space and he made thedefense come towards him, and in doing

(05:01):
so, it opened up an areafor him to slide the through ball into
Klaus with what I would call somepretty perfect pace in that path, yep,
so much so that because Klaus didn'tget a single touch on it,
it almost rolled in the net byitself, but it had and such little
drives behind it, and so itwas cleared at the goal line and all

(05:21):
Klauds had to do was get asingle touch, any kind of touch on
his foot on that ball and itwould have gone in, but the timing
wasn't there and he whiffed on it. And those two things for Klauds in
particular, are horribly frustrating because it'salmost a step back from the concerns we
had about quality shots being taken. These are just not able to get into

(05:43):
a position to even take those shots. Don't you think it's a manner of
not too of just not cashing inon breaks. Last year, I think
that they started so well is becauseit's like every chance they were given they
took. This year, it's likethey've had plenty of chances and just not
taking them. I don't know thatthat's not a very sophisticated look, but

(06:06):
I'm sure I'm sure there's some statisticsabout that somewhere. Yeah, And it's
the problem with the Salo City styleand the expectation that they create these moments
and the entire way that they're progressingthe ball up the field through long balls,
getting into the final third and lookingfor second chance opportunities as one of

(06:30):
your primary ways of creating those chances. You're limiting yourself in how many chances
you get that are really quality overall, and Salis is never going to be
a team that looks to possess theball, Bradley Cornell says over and over,
and as this team doesn't want possession, they don't value possession as a
way to create goal scoring opportunities. They either work on high press count high

(06:54):
press turnovers that create counter attacks,or they send the ball along and leverage
second chance opportunit unities so that theystart their possession in the attacking third of
the opponents. And when you dothat, you're basically saying we're going to
pick and choose our opportunities, andwe value creating a large number of these
chances knowing that we're only going toget thirty or forty percent of them that

(07:15):
actually turn into a true opportunity. And they haven't been able to take advantage
of any of those because they haven'tbeen able to be clinical in their second
chance ball gathering and creation alongside Klaus. It doesn't just go to Klaus.
Claus has been frustrating in his ownways, But if you look at really
the number ten positions, I wasfocusing on that this morning because Jose Kajima

(07:39):
has been getting a lot of praiseand credit, and I've enjoyed what I've
been seeing from jose Kajima in gettinga more extended role. But what I
don't like, necessarily is just thatconcept of the number ten position being so
ineffective in playing off of Klaus, and Saint Louis has been doing it in
a four to two, three toone shape where that player is underneath Klaus
and not more alongside him like NicoJokini was last year. And when you

(08:01):
do that, you just seem likethere's this gap or there this black hole
in the attacking midfield area. Whena second chance balls played off of Flows
or anybody else, really, there'sjust nobody to help take that ball collect
it. And what City tries todo is they have very few passes one
to one or two passes in thefinal third they're looking to before they create

(08:22):
a shot, and this number tenarea, this underneath central attacking midfielder role
doesn't seem like it's doing enough tocreate opportunities on the offensive end. Jima
did great in trying to be openin space off of Flows, but when
Klaus has its back to goal andhe's looking to collect those aerial those long

(08:43):
balls sent to him. There's nobodyunderneath it. It's all everybody's worried about
going so direct a goal that they'realmost look like they're forgetting the ball at
times. Matt, do you thinkthis was a fair result? You started
with the positive and again, youknow, DSc got up and I talked
about that. You know, youtalked about Portland coming in and being so
hot with all the goals they've beenscoring. CITYSC holds them. You know,

(09:07):
they get a point and you expectto get points against these teams that
you're contending for playoff spots with.So was it a fair result or was
this a game that CITYSC really neededto win? Oh, it was definitely
a game they needed to win.It was only a fair result if you
consider the fact that we don't havea good functioning offense, and that's the

(09:28):
only possible way you could consider it'sa good result because when you play at
home in and of itself, noother factors, When you play at home,
you expect to get three points inMLS, that is that needs to
be a given for Saint Louis, especially especially at City Park. I mean,
last night was crazy and we didn'twe didn't. Bugger did get it?

(09:48):
No, we didn't. That wasthat was another thing so positive about
the defense is that we didn't dropback into a low block and let Portland
possess the ball. In fact,we led in possession. It was fifty
to fifty the first half, andwe led in the second half. So
was this was Portland dropping back andtry to do what they needed to do
to prevent us from getting space, and we weren't able to take the few

(10:09):
moments that we were given, notjust from Klaus, but you know,
Luvin had some good free kick opportunities. Tim Parker actually had probably the best
opportunity off of a Louvin free kick. But like I told Tazi, if
you're going to rely on Tim Parkerto be your guys scoring goals, you're
going to have a bad time.Yeah, but it in general, like
not just because the defensive piece wasfundamental and fantastic job, but this was

(10:35):
also a Portland team that was allowingthe second most goals in the Western Conference.
This this Portland team is they theyare great at scoring goals, but
there's a reason that they're only inninth place when they've scored the second most
goals. In the conference and theyhave they have a leaky back line,
and it was even more so withthis game because they were missing their number
one goalkeeper, they were missing twoof their four back line players due to

(10:58):
international duty, and they were missingtheir best defensive midfield or Diego Chara for
a yellow card suspension. We weren'table to take advantage of any of these
holes in their defense where they weresending out their second string guys. And
that's that was the most frustrating thing. Is our best eleven that we carried
forward from Miami, who we wereso proud of the work that they did
against Matsy's team. We weren't ableto break through what I would call it

(11:22):
clearly inferior Portland Timbers season. Matt, let's in the remaining time we have,
let's jump to the next match.Well, this is a mess.
This is a match where you lookat the standings and you look at what
we know Saint Louis is capable of, or at least what we really think
they're capable of, and you saythis should be a win a few Dallas

(11:43):
is coming into this match having justdrawn Minnesota United this week. They are
a team that will low block you, but they don't have much of an
offensive capability right now. They're dealingwith injuries. It's not unlike the team
that Saintlis played just a few weeksago and drew or mill. The Saint
Louis in that game where they playede FCI Dallas at home at City Park

(12:05):
had an overwhelming amount of possession, like sixty six percent possession in that game,
which is absurd for Saint Louis Cityside, but it shows what SCI
Dallas is going to look like. When you attack them. They're going to
look like a more more folded versionof the Portland Timbers. They're going through
low block. They're not going tobe as forthcoming. They're probably going to
try to hit you on the counter, but they don't stretch the field very

(12:28):
well with some of their attacking players, and they do have some danger and
some quality in that attack. Whenyou look at Peter Musa, you look
at Paul Aerolis, Vash and theJets, some of these guys that have
the ability, they I expect themto come out on the counter at times,
but it would not surprise me ifthey bunk her down even at home,
similar to what they did at CityPark. And that's something that in

(12:50):
this Saint Louis team, where we'veseen flashes of their ability to break down
a low block if they want topossess in their current form, I just
don't think you can really trust thatthis is going to be a positive result
unless they grind something out similar toMiami, and it's tough to the toughest
thing, the most frustrating thing ofthe fan is you don't know which version
of Sanlis you're going to get atthis point. They've not been able to

(13:11):
string together consistent wins two in arow yet this year, and games where
they score three goals they've they've doneit four times this year, and they
bounce back with three of their fourfollow up games being goalless. Outing Matt
real quick. You know something DavidBursik said on the show A couple and
I think you and he were talkingabout it that pointed out to me that

(13:31):
I had kind of been thinking whenI'm watching is Burkey's long ball is being
wasted. We watched him pregame lastnight and the other goalie was on the
midfield line. He was just casuallykicking balls exactly to into the guy's hands.

(13:52):
The guy didn't have to move right. That's how accurate he's able to
pass these balls. But all theselong pass I was counting at one point
they didn't connect on any of thoselong passes that included that. It's almost
like we're giving them the ball sowe can steal it in their third Yeah,

(14:16):
what do you think about that?I mean, that's overall, that's
kind of the style, is thatwe're willing to play those long balls in
such volumes because we value the secondchance opportunities more than we value possession.
So you think that that is thethe strategy is to play the second ball.
Almost has been pretty He's actually beenpretty direct on that, saying they

(14:39):
don't value possessions, but also consistentlysaying they need to be better with their
second chance opportunity. And so youput those two together, and to me,
what Roman Burkey does when he looksto distribute the ball. He said
this himself when I asked him.He said, he looks high first,
and he just comes back down thefield and he doesn't see anybody open.
So his initial sending the ball Lonkto Klaus sal Indie or whoever, is

(15:01):
because he sees enough of an openingto where our player can at least have
a good chance to put that firsttouch on the ball and create the second
chances for others around him, andwhen it doesn't work, and then it
really mitigates what our entire offense todo. We haven't talked about him since
hesited with his team, but arewe missing Jared's strad He's I mean,

(15:24):
Jared dreads an easy answer to theproblem. At the same time, you
remember what a lot of people saidabout Jared Droud last year and that he
wasn't the best in the final third. He was more of an in the
weeds than the trenches, kind ofa guy who was very physical. Maybe
that's what Saint Louis needs in theirmidfield. But I just think looking at

(15:46):
Jared Stroud and his absence is hisescapegoat more than anything. Okay, because
the quality in personnel to me isthere, and what Salio can do on
the ball on the left side, which was where Jared Stroud often played,
we're getting previous to this game,We've been getting a lot of opportunities to
pay shots and Derreck Stroud doesn't openup space in the attacking third to the

(16:07):
point where the quality in our shotswould be markedly improved with him on the
field. I opinion, Well,Timmerman kind of lated it to all of
this to the laws of average andthe soccer gods without saying the soccer gods.
But we got all those breaks lastyear and we ain't getting them this
year, and maybe maybe that's that'spart of the deal. Hey, no
help coming. There's no help coming, le Matt. Thanks a lot,

(16:32):
catch flyover Footy wherever you catch yourpodcast. Thanks a lot, Matt Baker.
Matt Baker with the x'es and o's. He said, you have to
win at home. In the MLScitysc's first five games at home this season,
two wins, three draws, notbad. The last four one win,
two losses and a draw hasn't beengreat either. Hey, folks,

(16:55):
Jordan Williams again a quick station idea. You are listening to soccer Sunday on
KFN S five ninety the Fan.Give it away, give it away,
give it away, give it away, give it away, give it away,
give it away, give it away, give it away, give it
away, give it away, giveit away now, give it away,
give it away, give it now, give it away, give it away.

(17:18):
Give it a way that cities thatthat's we're not going. I thought
you didn't know we were on there. We are, Okay, So that's
okay, all right, what Mattsaying this, that's our strategy is give
it away, give it away, take it back. I missed that.

(17:38):
I thought I thought it might havegotten ugly here for a second. We're
creating new city s slogans today.Yeah, another one. Yeah, there's
I appreciate the fact that Matt soin tune to the trends, and that's
that if you say something that itreally doesn't support you know, your your

(18:03):
your theory isn't supported by the facts. He's right on it. Yeah,
he's on it. He's got thefacts. My contention with Ered Stroud was
there are guys on rosters that createhavoc, do the benefit of their teammates,
right, and like him or hatehim? Right? People hated him

(18:25):
Dennis Rodman. Yeah, for theBlues during their their run to win a
couple more cups. Pat Maroon,he's not a he's not a guy that's
gonna make spectacular plays. But whenhe's on the ice, the other team
knows. Yeah, right for sure, Jordan, this is your segment.
Yeah, what are we going totalk about now. Just standing on CDSC

(18:48):
and I'm not the most hardcore CDSCfan, but just hearing what I'm hearing
today, it seems like there's alot of frustration, inconsistency, Matt bringing
not how they've scored three goals andthen they follow up the game without scoring
anything. So I guess it's justbeen a tough season for a CDSC fan

(19:10):
at the moment. Again, Idon't think they're playing. Last year was
last year spoiled everybody? Last yearit was just a joy ride, man.
Yeah, yeah, because the problemthis year this year should have happened
last year, right, and becauseeverybody would have nobody would have been upseted
to say, we're, you know, new franchise, blah blah blah blah,

(19:30):
whatever the excuses they would have made. But the expectation level was raised
so much last year, right thatpeople just couldn't you know, we become
hyper critical because we have something tocompare it against. Speaking of expectations,
a couple of weeks ago, youhad the Marco Royce expectation. Now I

(19:51):
kind of feel like a fool becauseI had gone down to CITYSC and interviewed
some fans, and I said,oh, and what do you think of
these rumors about Marco Royce coming here? And then we had Bill I think
it was Bill. It was Bill, or it was Bill talking about that
that there's no way that that wasgoing to happen, that there wasn't money
for that to happen in the firstplace. But our hopes, our hopes
got high with Roman Burkey, youknow, sending the real message message to

(20:14):
Marco Royce and stuff. And nowRoyce he was linked with Charlotte, and
now Tim Riem has been linked withCharlotte. And I think Marco Royce,
I think the most recent one Isaw was maybe the Galaxy. He's been
linked with several teams. I gottaimagine every every thirty three to five year
old European player who still knows he'sgot games and he thinks, well,

(20:37):
I wouldn't mind going living in Americafor a couple of years. That's the
thing that I'm always interested by,because we heard when Steven Gerard came over
there's certain players that don't like itbecause you have to fly every sure sure,
and you're that is coming from England. Dennis burg Camp would have hated
it. Yeah, you're coming fromEngland, you're coming from Germany, these
places where you know, they takethe bus or they take the train,
and I'm curious into the mindset ofthose players, and I'd have to assume

(21:00):
that, you know, like aSebastian Giovinco who came over when he was
twenty seven twenty eight years old,I guess they're just infatuated. I mean,
he went to Toronto. But Iguess just the culture in America that
they want to go try it out. Because what's stopping Marko Royce from just
playing in two Bundesliga He could probablystill play for a Bundesliga team. Yeah,
you know, that's still solid. So I guess they're just interested in

(21:21):
coming to America. I'm not I'vemet a fair amount of Europeans in my
life. We've been fortunate enough togo over a lot, and I've never
really met anybody. I mean, they want to know about America, right,
They want to come to America. Now it might only be Disney World
or Las Vegas, but they wantto come to America. Young guys,

(21:45):
old guys. They see it inthe movies, it's in the TV,
it's you know that we've got thatplaying for us, right in terms of
that. By the thing with City, it's I think I guess this was
Tom was talking about that they're notgoing to spend that kind of money.
They're just not going to spend thekind of money necessary, you know,
if it gets something gets into abidding. More literally, the rumors were

(22:08):
Marco Royce, well, they signeda kid from the Australian youth team.
Now, okay, maybe that guyis really good, or maybe the guy
they got from the second division inBundesliga is very good, and I think
that's probably not a bad fit becauseit's a similar kind of league. You

(22:30):
know, maybe get some guy fromthe English Championship, you know that's a
proven goal scorer at that level.Because I think in contrary in agreement with
what Ted said as opposed to Imean, I understand that about how important
the stats are and you're measuring what'shappened, But the truth of the matter,

(22:52):
it seems to me is that teamswith guys like Jared Stroud, who
doesn't care what he does for theteam because he's so thrilled to be on
the team and he gets the conceptof team in an individualistic manner is.
It's the kind of thing you miss. I mean, what else do you
have to say that's different from lastyear? You know, on paper they

(23:15):
improved, right, everybody thought, well is a good player? Yeah right,
and so you know they have, but things happened. Uh, Luvin
got hurt. Things are not thesame, right, was really starting right?
He got hurt the end of theyear, right for him? Oh
no, it sounds like six weeksnow. Oh okay, all right,

(23:38):
So what else do you want totalk about? Jordan? Something that I
think it was Bill Bill that broughtup talking about the Champions League and uh,
and you brought up how at halftimeReal Madrid brought in all this.
You know, the legends are thelegends, right, the ghosts. They
have some Dodgers fan and now Iknow how other people maybe feel looking at

(24:04):
the Dodgers and what they've done, because when you look at Real Madrid and
you can say that they already haveBellingham and any I used to think about
their midfield and I thought they're midfieldand it is so crazy that you know
they would start with Tony Cruz andLuka Modrich maybe like Fetti Valverde or whatever,
and then off the bench. Youhave Truemene who's a French international,

(24:25):
right, Kamavinga, who's a Frenchinternational, who could both start for France,
the most talented team in the world. And those are the guys that
are coming off of the bench. So you have so then you add Bellium
to the midfield, and then youhave Vinnie as well. Rodrigo don't know
if he's gonna stay or not,but you have Imbape coming in, oh

(24:45):
god, and then you have thisseventeen year old Endrick. I don't know
if you've heard Aboutzil. He's supposedto be the next big thing. And
I had read a stat this morning. I don't remember it off the top
of my head, but it wassomething about the only tea to score in
his first three games for Brazil sinceWow. Wow. So they real Madrid

(25:06):
are just and they just won theChampions League. And I don't even think
people without trying. That's the thing. They don't really seem they I don't
think they were really dominating anyone. No, they just with Carlo Ancelotti,
they just were winning. They werejust winning. They weren't really destroying people.
The point you just made that it'sif you think about Chelsea when they
were great, aren't you? No, you're not? Are you a Chelsea?

(25:27):
Okay, we're still great. Okay, you're where, You're still great.
But when like when it was manyou and Chelsea. Right, The
thing about Chelsea it was destructive isthat in the seventieth minute against the majority
teams they were playing, not whenthey played United, okay, but when

(25:47):
they were playing the majority of teamsthey were playing, at the seventieth minute,
they could bring on a game changerthat the other team didn't have a
guy like that on their entire team, but they're bringing them on fresh legs
with the desire to prove his point. And it was like that the game
over, right, you just can't. How do you compete because your guys

(26:12):
are tired? And yeah, RealMadrid is bringing French internationals off the bench.
Yes. And the other interesting thingwhen you think about their team,
So speaking of teams destroying other teams, I think of the Chris John,
Ronaldo, Gareth Bale, Krim Benzemateams right right, those guys are all

(26:34):
in their prime. They were twentysix, twenty seven. Rights, I'm
just looking up one more stat orone more age of a player because I
want to bring this up. Sowhen you think of the new, the
new, it's just what ed Mundodoes. But he's looking up stats and
when he's rambling about some categ thenew Galactico. So you think the Galacticos,
it was Figo Zidon, Roberto Carlos, David Beckham. I saw them

(26:59):
in person, in person, that'samazing in Madrid, in Madrid beautiful,
and you think of this new Galactico'steam that they're forming. So I mentioned
those guys were probably also twenty eight, twenty seven, twenty six, Bale,
Ronaldo and their peak. Jude Bellingis twenty years old, Benny Junior
is twenty three, and Bape's twentyfive. He's the old guy and he's

(27:22):
twenty five. He seems ancient.Yeah, he's been around for so.
I just he was the most expensiveteenager when he was bought for like one
hundred and thirty million or whatever. He's crazy. And then Endric now is
seventeen. So these guys could legitimatelyfor the next eight years, right,
just yeah, I don't know who'sgoing to compete with them. It's going
to be crazy watching them be inthe Champions League. Well, I'm sure

(27:44):
they. I'm sure they broke nofinancial FIFA financial rules. Speaking of that,
if we want to talk about thePremier League, sure, loving on
what's going on with Man City?My segment's next, so we can talk
about it. Yeah, exactly whatit's Yeah, really interesting. If we
want to hold it off for acouple no, no, no, j
Well we'll start it now. Andthen we had this year one of the

(28:07):
set, one of the shows Iwas on earlier this year, we talked
about I think he was not eamforced. I was deducted a few points,
and then Everton that was deducted afew points. And you look at
Man City and one fifteen has beenthis just number that's followed them around for
all of the breaches that they've soone and fifteen breaches that they're under investigation,

(28:29):
Mark yes. And now Man Cityis I don't know if they filed
it yet or they're attempting to,or that's just a rumor that they're going
to sue the Premier League. Well, sure their backs are against the wall.
That's like a last disc So youknow, people are looking at this
as what type of point deduction arethey going to have? Now? I
did have this conversation with a buddyyesterday when we were watching the USA game.

(28:49):
Two points they're gonna take two?Well, no, the thing is
how many points would you have todeduct from city for them to like face
relate. You have to take like, well, they're not going to get
relegated, but like if they werejust to be in a relegation because Everton
and Nottingham Force that's what they were, you'd probably have to take like forty
points. Yeah, off the startof the Well, they have so many
violations. They ought to stagger itover years. They had every every year,

(29:12):
but they gotta do Theoretically, theygotta do something. Well, if
they're gonna take six points, ninepoints ten, the season is up for
grabs, and you'd think Arsenal forsure gonna be the heavy heavy favorites if
there is a round a ten pointdeduction. But it'll be very very interesting.
I mean they should get something. You're talking about Everton and Nottingham Forest

(29:32):
and mean something you got man citywalking around. Oh, it drives me
crazy, It drives me crazy.Well, we're gonna talk a little bit
more about that when we come back. But you're listening to Soccer Sunday on
KFN S is five ninety the Fan. This is Jordan Williams from Fox two
News. Here. We're gonna takea quick break. We'll be right back.
Don't touch that dit and don't bean American idiot. I guess it

(30:00):
makes it. I have very specificinstructions for you. Check on the five
ninety the Fan out and you're appstore. You don't have that got side

(30:23):
the plain precious way, I myjem, that's a white book god side
the Twain Gee, I don't knowmy fad. That is no future and

(30:45):
they get it's all a lot too. It's a lot to Nate Jack,
no huge jump. Now, Netyou are listening to soccer Sunday on KF
and S five ninety the Fan.Now, Tom, you may have to
queue me in. I know we'relistening to some punk rock sex Pistols.

(31:08):
Sex Pistols, That's what I wasthinking about. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
yeah. I mean I'm not asex Pistols fan, but I love
that song because it really expresses theway I feel about Royalty. You know,
I mean, these are not greatpeople. I don't know why you
are giving them so much money andso much attention. But we all have

(31:30):
issues, right, speaking of elites, yes, Man City just it drives
me. I have friends that areMan City fans, and I get it
because you know, when they're onsong Man, there's nothing like it.
They're just it's beautiful to watch.But it's obviously they're breaking the rules,

(31:51):
right, I mean the Everton youknow, well, you're too stupid.
That's ten points. Now we'll makeit five, so you're only five points.
Where the stupid. I don't thinkthat they From what I read about
at Everton's issues is they weren't inthe back room conspiring. No, they
had spent an extra bit of moneyon whether it was stadium renovations or something,

(32:15):
and it was like it was duringlike COVID and they weren't supposed to
do. It was like a reallyweird kind of thing. And all right,
immediately there's ten points, which Ithink was deducted to four. But
yeah, but the thing with Cityis that every year they've got new players
that I've never heard of that arelike no other team can afford, you

(32:37):
know. I mean they've got guyson their bench who, if they were
on any other team, would bethe star. It's like what, I
don't know. I mean it hardfrom them. Well, Tom used to
be a Manchester United fan. Yeah, I was stupid, you know,
and then they changed and you know, life moved on. Now I'm mostly
a fan of other people's teams.Yeah, this is a peace that the

(33:00):
Guardian just posted today. It's anopinion piece. But playing the victim card
is how a leads game the system. Just look at Manchester City. So
an opinion piece posted today by theGuardian talking about some of the violations that
they've done, and this is theother thing, and talking about what type
of punishment should City get. Well, when you have billions and billions of
dollars, there's really nothing you cando whether they take ten points. I

(33:22):
mean, obviously you could stop themfrom winning the league, and you can
deduct them ten points and you couldprobably assume Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea,
you know, maybe someone someone couldcould get there and fight for the title
when you take ten points away fromCity. But even ten points, who
knows, they could still just goinsane this season. So you just kind
of wonder what you can do toa team to really make them, you

(33:44):
know, face the music and kindof follow the rules. But when you
know, money is king and theycan just keep spending money. And yeah,
but if you don't do anything, yeah, something's got happen. So
something has to be done. Imean it, even if it's a slap
on the wrist, at least justslapped them on the wrist. It strikes
me. But then again, youknow, in a way you think about

(34:07):
it, sports is the best. It's the it's pure capitalism. You know,
you win or you die, right, especially in soccer, and especially
and here there's a salary cap atleast that that controls something. And I
think I had seen something that hadcome across my interwebs about maybe introducing a

(34:28):
salary cap into European soccer, whichwould be maybe ideal and help some teams.
But yeah, it'll be interesting tosee see what happens. We you
know, the NBA. I reada tremendous book on it, which I
can't remember the name of the bookor the author at the moment, but
it was it was about the NBAhow the league who had a really good

(34:52):
lawyer and what was his name, the former commissioner of the David Stern,
worked a deal out is that theyrealized, you know, a lot of
people don't realize. Like when Burdenin Magic came into the league, it
was kind of a garbage league, right. I mean their games were on

(35:13):
at ten thirty at night on Fridaynights on delay. A lot of drugs,
I think a lot of drug itwas. It was people thought about
it as well, the drug letYeah. And one of the things that
the problems this guy pointed out isthat they had a number of owners who
basically were renegade kind of guys anddidn't really have the money to be in

(35:35):
the league, but they stayed inthe league, so they did kind of
crazy stuff, but they needed somerules and stern from the owners. And
this guy who's name like it wasa New York labor law guy and got
involved in the NBA and worked thedeal out and they shared revenue and the
owners didn't want to share numbers andthe players. I can't remember what the

(35:58):
players did, but both sides gave. They worked a deal and now the
NBA is worldwide. Right, It'slike, you have to make these deals
and you have to bake teams. It seems to me that teams think in
Europe or in the rest of theworld, the goal is survival, you
know, promotion relegation, right,So if you get to the next league

(36:22):
and then you stay in it,that that's a reward in and of itself.
But we don't have that here.So owners, you know, can
make if you're in the NFL,you can make a trillion or however many
dollars you make and have a prettycrappy team. You bring up an interesting
point, and there's so many Americanowners now in the Premier League and really
owners all over the world there thataren't English. Yeah, you know,

(36:45):
David Stern is no longer with us, but I'd be interested to know how
many times the Premier League or leaguesover there have brought in American kind of
minds, you know, how yougive them advice. This this is a
this is a weird thing. I'veread another book on this, a great
book about how the Premier League gotstarted. And one of the things they

(37:05):
did is like the owner of Arsenalmaybe it wasn't the owner, maybe as
a chairman, whatever he was,was of a number of guys who came
to the NFL like they didn't havemoney and football. They copied that off
the NFL. But the thing thatI think it was. David Dean was
most impressed. The guy from Arsenalis he came over to the NFL stadiums
and the bathrooms were clean. Hesaid, this is this is bizarre,

(37:30):
right, this is this is whatwe desire to to to get to the
place because at the time the Premiere, they were just out of the hooligan
era, you know, just barely. Uh, And that that's how one
of the ways they copied a lotof stuff. I have to remember that

(37:50):
book. Remind me of I'll getyou that book to read because it was
a club. Huh the club,I think it was the club. The
club, right, Yeah, Ithink so good, well done, Ted.
Remind me to get you the back. I think you really enjoy reading
that. Yeah, first Premier Leagueseason. We always forget. We think
that it's been going on for solong, but it's just ninety ninety three,

(38:12):
that's the first season. So yeah, you know, only a thirty
one year old league. So yeah, the NBA was around for a very
long time. Obviously they had thefirst division in England. But the NFL's
Yeah, the Monday night football thingis interesting because yeah, that I'm like,
where did they Yeah, it's literallyexactly yeah, not exactly the same,
but I mean it's called Monday NightFootball and it's well, it's funny
that they that you would think, well, they'll never take ideas from America.

(38:34):
Well and then they took ideas andthey started getting the owners. I
got to drop this in before Iforget. I bought myself for Father's Day,
Bill Maher's new book. I thinkthe title is it's it's like taking
from a clickbait thing, see whatthis comedian said, you know, And
it's got a like like button onit. And I've started watching them again.

(38:57):
I didn't have HBO, so Istopped watching him. But now CNN
runs his show like they run anhour of his show on Saturday night.
So I recorded and I watched mostof it this morning before I came over,
and I was reminded why I boughtthe book, and I was reading
the book. The book is laughout loud funny true. I mean literally,

(39:19):
yes, you're I'm laughing out laudbecause what he said is just true.
The extremes of both sides in thiscountry are absolutely bat blank crazy.
I was talking to my wife thisweek. It's really a shame that the
people that really give it, giveit to you like it is. Are

(39:44):
the comics, Yeah, you're absolutelyright. You know they speak truth to
power and nobody else does because everybodyelse is so worried, like the entire
Congress. What do they worry aboutkeeping their job? They've got to keep
their job. Well, I gotto keep my job to keep you know,
good hands on the government. Yeah, well they can get your hands
out of the mock. You know. It's but he does that, and

(40:07):
you know, nobody anybody's saying doesn'tagree with everything anybody else says. Right,
but do yourself a favor. Readthis book. It will it will,
It will make you feel better. It's making me feel better, although
worse at times because people are sostupid. But let's get over it.

(40:30):
Pretty stupid myself. Is it yourturn now? Is it? Play the
song? We'll see unless Jordan's gotsomething else to say? Take away?
Okay, give a station ID,Yes, a quick station ID. You're
listening to soccer Sunday on KFN Sfive ninety the fan catch us wherever you

(40:52):
get your podcasts? This all thetime? Yeah, doctor song right bad?
I love that back and forth throughmy mind like a cigarette. Come

(41:19):
on, dog, that's a manwho has smoked a cigarette or two.
I'm suspecting. All right, apologizefor my voice. After being a little
bit stronger there for a while,it's starting to get weaker again. Gotta
go see doctor Eisenby, I am. I'm going to see my therapist tomorrow.
And then based on that ointman,I'll go back to the doctor Jack

(41:43):
advice and all that's from there. You know. They tell me that it's
still just the muscle tension to sphonia, and I'll drust in their judgment and
and there's certain parts of the dayweren't better. And George Stotts, Oh
so Jordan. Ted goes to ishis uh this physician and I says in

(42:07):
the office, he goes, guywalks in. He goes, hey,
you were on our show. AndJack EISENBEI, who's a friend, says,
oh yeah. Start recognizing that heThe first time Ted met him was
sitting in one of these chairs atone of the studios we have been in
our loom because we've been how manystudios five? I think, hey,

(42:28):
you know what, this is thewomen's world. I've got I've got a
stat break it may okay, Sowhat am I always saying about women's sports,
what you gotta buy tickets, yougotta write tickets, you gotta you
gotta support it, or sorry, you can't pay him as much sam as
the men. Okay, So theWorld Cup, the women's the women players

(42:54):
take in the World Women's World Cupout of a gross of one hundred and
thirty million dollars is thirty million dollars. Okay, twenty the men of a
his take is four hundred million outof a gross of six billion dollars.

(43:21):
That works out to be seven percent. That's how women are going to achieve
paid right and exactually quickly. There'sa lot of conversation about Caitlin Clark not
going to Paris. She doesn't deserveto go. First of all. The
only reason, in my opinion, the take her is but what's for the

(43:45):
game and to help NBC is holdon. It's that. Let me ask
you quan Olympics and building for Olympicsare becoming a losing proposition. Let me
ask you this question. Don't theAmerican women dom? Yes, yes,
they never lost? Yeah, okay, well why do they need They don't

(44:05):
and she wouldn't play very much?Well, I feel like that would be
the only reason why they would takeher because they dominate and they don't need
her, and you know she maynot be good enough at the moment,
but then it's like, why whynot take her? And I'm interested?
Actually, NBC, I if Nike, well, Nike is also team say
so Nike and NBC not really youknow in the back rooms applying pressure to

(44:27):
take her hasn't announced yet. Theseare all rumors. Okay, theyamn sure,
they'll have a reveal show they donow. They have a big to
do and it's the team. Publicly, I don't really think it's a big
bru haha for her to not beon there and she's a rookie. But
me to me, can you imagineeverything she went through Iowa? Yeah,

(44:51):
he goes to the final and aweek later she's draft and then she's in
drain camp. She needs a break, she needs a right. Yeah,
every human being, they're to leused to say, there are men machines,
they're women machines without a doubt, and the last thing she needs are
the league deeds is to hurt forher to sustain in a serious injury from

(45:15):
overused. So it's you know what, it's a conversation, but do the
economic is dom As much as Ilove women's sports, I totally agree,
totally agree. Okay, quickly, the women's national team won their secondly against
South Korea and they completely change thelineup. So the first match I talked

(45:44):
about the young players up top,Grethy Rodman, mals Wanston, Zylvia Smith.
Then the second game they don't start, but at the sixties of the
minute here's they come on the benchand Korea was like, what the heck?

(46:06):
And to top it all off, they have a sixteen year old named
Lily Johan Lily Johannes. She hasdual systems ship she faces professionally in the
Netherlands. She has it committed towhich national team she gonna play for yet
she's sixteen sixteen. Her skills thatis strong, every touch, every pass,

(46:36):
her finish city see could use this. Cow's a good idea. See
your bodies and instead of crushing theball, try to go top ninety.
She just slots it in like amass poacher. Yeah, so the whole
team was loving on her after hescored. Now that's a big deal,

(46:57):
your first I think it was herfirst cap goal. But they really really
are hoping that you'll commit to theUS. How are the Netherlands girl women's
They're good. They won they wonthe last Euros Heroes before last and they
were in the finals against the USin Paris. Was she born here,

(47:20):
Yes, and we moved when shewas young and she's lived there most of
her life. You know, Ican tell you this about the Netherlands teams
without having seen them or knowing anythingabout them, is that they're tall because
here, and here's an example,is my friend Ralpha Rosen, who is
Italian but works in the Netherlands, and her major complaint is that all the

(47:49):
mirrors in the bathroom are too top, too high, because uh uh,
that's goal. Oh good, howare you doing? Who? Gold Bard
teams? He's producder on some ofthe shows here. Cool, but her
her biggest complaint is that she can'tShe took a picture and her head was

(48:10):
literally at the bottom of the mirrorin the bathroom, and that was because
she's not really a tall person.All right. So that's the US women's
national team. And I did lookup. South Korea was ninth feet A
ranked when those games were played. They dropped two spots to eleven, so
I thought they were more like atwenty ranked team, but their their top

(48:34):
ten one. As you as yousay every week, the world is catching
up. It is. It is. Well that's a good thing, all
right. So I talk a littlebit about an event that happened last night
at Wrigley Field. The Chicago RedStar has played a home match against franchise
that's expansion team see and it's abig deal playing at Wrigley cool event.

(49:01):
A Hey sold thirty five thousand tickets. But I was telling Tom before the
match, you know, Chicago RedStars, they're pretty talented team in their
middle of the table. They justlaid an egg. They didn't score till
extra time. They were down tonothing. I mean, it's it's a

(49:23):
sports competition. You can't control allthe factors. But man oh man,
when you when for women in sportsand you get a chance to perform it
in front of your biggest crowds,it's important to perform. And that's a

(49:44):
shame. But the Iago franchise hadnew owners. It's the family, the
Ricketts family that owned the gubs, okay, and it's the female the female
part of the family that bought thewomen's soccer So they're in good hands financially,
but I was hoping for a betterresult for them. And then when

(50:07):
I mentioned the end of the well, they were on a feat of break.
They're back. They will have along break during the Olympics. They'll
have a few competitions with Lega MXFeminiley, like the MLS is competing against
Lega mex So we'll see how theleague unfolds Kansas City at their new stadium,

(50:35):
they host the game tonight at fiveo'clock. But the team that is
shocking the league is Orlando. They'vegot some African strikers. They've got Marza,
the Brazilian superstar, and she seemsto be revitalized by this young team
that is getting some results and theyare top of the table. And they've

(51:00):
been a team that a lot oftalented players in the past and they could
never get it done. So happy, happy for that. Bridge. So
I got I got a question,Yeah, go ahead, Will uh Dallas
win a game in the NBA Championship? Yes, Jason Kidds master mind plan

(51:21):
is working. If you heard aboutwhat he said, no what he say.
He said that Jalen Brown was thebest player on the Celtics. So
then they had to ask all theCeltics player about it, and they're like,
oh, we know he's trying todrive awage between us. Yeah,
but Drew Holliday, interestingly enough, said that he Jalen Brown is the best
player, So I don't know what'sgoing on. Well, he is the
best player. You think he's betterthan Tatum? Yeah, in the big
games, don't you agree with that? Tatum is kind of like if you

(51:44):
look back at the big games overthe past few years, I mean,
I love I love him, buthe's he makes questionable decisions with the ball
at the end of the games andyou cannot do that one that one finally
he was injured, and the otherone he almost broke his ankle. Anyway,
so tom let night that I've scenebost and be vulnerable do a bad

(52:14):
shooting night from three. They havea wee they're bad shooting nights from three.
But when they're shooting at clip fromthree, the hard Dallas will figure
it out. When you have Kyrieand Luca, they'll figure something out.
The only one before because Kyrie turnedinto Superman to me for for a few
different games. He just was unbelievable. But I think the biggest biggest factor

(52:42):
is Perzingis. I mean he wasyou talk about a game changer. Wow,
that that particular game. I meanhe was seven for his first nine
from the field. It's horrible whenthe team you're playing against can bring on
a guy that hasn't played in soevermany weeks and could be the best player
on you know, five or soNBA teams. You know, kind of
a version of what we were talkingabout with Man City bringing on all these

(53:07):
our sub is better than any player. Well, you can't say that about
the MAVs, but you know mostteams you can say that guy he's an
All Star, isn't he? Ifhe's his maps, have somebody else step
up. I mean they've got they'vegot to have somebody else emerge. And
they're big. They can't shoot threethroats right well in any in any NBA.

(53:30):
One NBA game means absolutely nothing otherthan it puts you up three two
or something like if I think allthese guys at this level, from coaches
to the players, are able tosay, Yep, that game just ended.
It's over. Let's get to thenext game. So tonight, I'm
very I'm really looking forward to it. I do want to end on one

(53:52):
headline, maybe the man City headlineof the weekend. Yes, this is
the daily Mail. Brighton inch closerto a point Fabian Hertzler as their new
boss, with the thirty one yearold American set to become the youngest manager
in Premier League history. Thirty onethirty one. He was born in Houston,
dual citizenship with America. In Germany, he played some youth national team

(54:15):
games with USA. He kind ofconsiders himself American and German. But he's
only thirty one. He just gotSC Saint Pauli promoted into into the Bundesliga.
So we'll see if he actually makesit to Brighton. But thirty one
year old American manager maybe in yearsand the TV got promoted again. St
Pauli. Paul Girl, Sat PauliGirls. Is that a beer? Well,

(54:38):
there's the beer in Hamburg. Yeahfor sure. Let's schedule. You
know they so Man play tonight, play against all winnsday. That's the way
they do it. Though, comeon, man, come got to give
him a day off for the jetlag you know, Dallas and Boston.

(54:58):
I wanted to assist the last Imean this the last series. I want
it stretched out I've got no.I was really happy that they Game two
wasn't last night. Watch any ofthe TSD soccer Durnam No, I've seen
some highlights. I know some ofthe big names that are in it.
Is it on TV or where doyou find it? You find out ESPN
plus most of the games TSD A, TSD st Okay dom it. I

(55:22):
love the DBT basketball. We lovee La Mending. That was awesome.
Okay, do we have to go? Well we should? All right,
you have to go, folks,It's time to go. Audio Ted Williams,
Santiago Beltran, Matt Baker, TomTimmerman, myself, Jordan Williams,
