n GK Law dot com, aSaint Louis law firm with local roots and
nationwide results. I'm your red Mundoin today's lineup. Listen, I'm gonna
get right through this tom because wegot uh, we got so much talent
in this room. If there wasa talent, what you're talking to me?
Oh? What chance? All right, Well, I don't know if
(01:21):
it's supposed to do here. Sorry, Ladies and gentlemen pressing on uh,
and it's Ted's over there on theboard direct me uh. In the studio
today right now, we have DaveBursick, we got Daniel Save, we
got Jordan Williams. We got Billmcdee coming up on the phone right here.
In about two shakes, so Tomtake it. We get we we
got to get to it. Thisis like Noah's Ark. We got all
(01:42):
this, all this talent. Okay, all right, we need your answer.
Oh uh, we need we needI've got a question, Daniel,
maybe can you see the real name? What'd you say? Can you see
the real meaning? No, you'reso far away? Can you speak louder?
(02:02):
I love it? I love it. You're liking a different area code.
I mean, it's that's all right, that's what technology is for.
From sixtrees. But speaking of technology, did the did our building forget about
technology and just decide we're not gonnahave air conditioning today? Because it is
I don't know if it's David Bursikand studio. Bring in the heat,
dud. It's a wedding in thestudio right now. Sweet Well, usually
(02:23):
it's so cold in here. Imean I've got a sweatshirt on because that
because you're built different, built different. That's Spressmere Mortals over here on the
other side of the universe. I'mbuilt like Luca, and you're built like
Kyrie. Speaking of Kyrie, whendid the country of Turkey become the Turk?
(02:44):
The country of Turk? Kyrie isthis. Have you noticed that with
you're you and Jordan are both onFox. Notice that one in Czech Republic
is also which really confusing to me. Wait, wait, what did Turkey
become? Turkey is now Turk?Kyrie? It's t u r k I
y e. No, just sayKyrie because that that that's what it should
(03:07):
be. I mean that's after hisYeah, his run to the NBA finals.
You've got to honor him some way. Why not change the country's name.
Some big things shaken here? Uhokay, you know I have a
whole bunch of notes here. Wehave we have You know, if you
haven't seen Jordan and Daniel on thenews that matter, what is it the
news that matters or what your coverageyou can count on? Are you serious?
(03:30):
Tom, I'm trying to be serious. You guys are great, and
now here you are giving me craps. I'm sorry I did it anyway,
So I'm gonna just skip you ifyou if you haven't seen these guys on
Channel two the other night, Icaught you, h Jordan anchoring well done,
(03:50):
and Daniel did a just a fantasticjob on sports And I'm thinking these
are the guys we're hanging out withnow things have changed, But forget all
that, because in studio we havea guy who's actually kind of calm.
I thought he was going to be, given our earlier communications this week,
I thought he would be on fire, mister David Bursik. How you doing,
(04:13):
David doing well? How are youthis morning? Well? I mean
I was thinking, oh man,it's there's going to be some fire,
and then said he played last nightand they weren't awful. I'm sure they're
very happy to hear you say thatwhere they ought to be. No,
they the performance last night was solid, at least for the first half and
(04:35):
a good portion of the second half. Again, I think we kind of
fell apart once we subbed, whichhas been kind of a standard protocol.
I think, you know, Ithink, well who do we have?
I mean, you look at thebench. I was watching the game the
other night and the Klaus has beenlost. I think you've made a point
(04:56):
before we went on the air aboutjust do you recall what it was.
I think Klaus is not sure whathe's going to do until he does it.
But I don't think the other playerson the field necessarily understand what he's
going to do. I think he'salways thinking, he's always working, and
he's looking to make those runs andmovements off the ball, But I'm not
(05:18):
sure that everyone else is following along. And I think that's some of the
reason we have some misconnection at thistime. Yeah, and you look at
the bench and you think, well, I mean, Timmerman said a couple
of weeks ago, don't worry.Help is not on the way. There's
less help there on the way rightnow. It's like we're playing the under
(05:40):
seventeen guys. Now, Oh,for sure, at least there's energy.
I mean, and energy can onlygo so far. But this is kind
of the theme of the team asa whole, is there comes a point
where the efforts there awesome, theenergy is there awesome, and then tactically
what they're trying to accomplish, whichis winning the ball back in the final
thing or in the attacking third, which they are doing and creating opportunity,
(06:03):
all those check the boxes. Soat some point you just say, well,
maybe they just aren't that talented. And that's a conversation that you could
potentially be having eight games without awin. Again. I think teams understand
how we play, and I thinkthat's become the real wall that we're not
able to quite get over at thistime. Teams come in with an idea
(06:24):
of how they're gonna play us,and we're having a difficult time breaking breaking
that down. And our press isn'tI mean, I know, traditionally,
if you go last year, Imean most and not all of our opportunities
came off of high press, right, and a turnover in midfield and things
of that nature. We're getting fewerof those, and even while we're getting
them, we're not executing, we'renot cashing them. In last year,
(06:46):
it seems like we Bill all right, ladies and gentlemen, joining this discussion,
mister Socker his own self, BillMcDermott, how you doing, Bill,
John morning? Everyone? You knowBill like David Bursik's institute with all
right, David, I don't knowif I told you that ahead of time.
I wanted to surprise you because Iknow we're going to mostly talk about
(07:08):
the Euros, and you're free totalk about them as much as you want.
But David seems pretty intent on talkingabout cities. So you got anything
to say? Well, first andfore, mostly what a wonderful goalkeeper and
I mean a wonderful goalkeeper. Itwould be like a local Saint Louis and
(07:28):
now going on to play for theOlympic team, namely Patrick Shelsey, and
then further go on to represent yourcountry. But David played in the North
American Soccer League at the time whenit was pretty foreign. Excuse me,
it was pretty foreign to use Americanplayers, and David did a superblative job
playing with some of the literally literallybest players in the history of the sport.
(07:56):
But then, more importantly, andmost importantly, they think for the
legacy of his last name, wenton to start, well, Amo Bersick
did, and David quickly followed wenton to start something that figures in every
select team's overall future into Saint Louisarea, and that is what kind of
(08:20):
kit, what kind of strip, what kind of uniforms they wear? And
they can accommodate, They can accommodateanybody. You want some white stripe Adidas
on your shoes, even though they'reimpossible to find, you can still get
them at Soccer Master without any question. What you want? You want a
Brazil shirt, a blue one fromthe nineteen ninety four World Cup, and
(08:43):
you want the name Romerio put onthe back soccer Master could do it for
you. Well. They were bringingthe European stuff over before people even knew
where Europe was, so that youcould pull all the contact over. They
were doing things that people couldn't believeback in the day. Member, for
sure, for sure, I rememberthis, uh not that Paul Duker and
(09:05):
I made it a habit of meetingAmo at Kasak Giado. Yes, we
made it enough of a habit whenAml said, listen, I'm going to
start a soccer sporting goods store andno one in Saint Louis had done that
since the days of Gelker, DonahueCorenza down on Southampton, and they made
it go of it made it godas well. Ben al Troch's brother started
(09:28):
Olympic Sporting goods. There was Geesler, Jorgan, Bob Russell, Minnie Garodi.
And as much as I love SoccerMaster, that the World Cup of
Soccer sports shops, they'll never havea slogan like Bob Russell. And that
was if you want your team tohustle by your equipment from Bob Russell.
(09:50):
You you helped him with that, didn't you, Yeah? I did.
But Dad it's an overall huge partof why why a all of us in
Saint Louis continue to give back tothe overall cause, and that is the
growth of the sport in our country. Well, thank you, Bill,
that was that was quite impressive.Off the cuff. You don't have a
(10:15):
terminal illness of Bill's. Hey,Hey, Bill, I don't. I
don't know if you heard this. You know, Timan's over in Madrid,
and they saw our oldest daughter Elizabethand her husband Tom and our three children
who have been over three grandchildren excuseme, who have been over there since
(10:35):
January third. Elizabeth and Tom tookthe three kids and they wanted to immerse
them in the overall culture in Spain. Learned some Spanish along the way.
Tom and Elizabeth are fluent in Spanish. They use it in their jobs all
the time. And they just wantedthe kids to do something different, and
(10:56):
every one of their teachers told themdo it, so now do it.
Their experience will be fabulous and ithas been an astounding experience for all of
them. What is this work related? It is not work related. Tom
and Elizabeth fart he fortunately can bothwork remotely. Consequently, it makes no
(11:20):
difference where they're doing their jobs from. Uh, but the kids grace to
the oldest at eleven depth a littlebit earlier. Uh. The youngest Joseph
is like when is this going tobe over? And and Patrick was just
interested in playing soccer over thelready becausehe wants to be I think I mentioned
(11:43):
it this time. He wants tobe the first American to play for Real
Madrid. Wow, which is alofty goal. Yeah, now, I
said, Patrick, I'll be gladto try to support you in whatever capacity
I can, But that's a kindof a lofty goal. But Tom,
speaking of all that type of thing, all the things we've talked about of
(12:05):
the show in the past, Tom, who is the first person that told
you about Okay gone one? Billcan go to guard Bill. I listened
to Soccer Sunday on CAF and that'sfive ninety the fan And I've heard you
talking about those guys for years, for years years. Look at the youth
(12:26):
coming up. Who's in the firsteleven Come on, come on, I
mean it couldn't have possibly been yearsago for you. I mean I mean,
no, no, no, goodwould have been nine years old two
years ago. That Bill was justlearning how to pronounced when he started,
and you can imagine how long agothat would have been. I don't I
(12:46):
don't buy that for a second.I've never I've never heard Bill McDermott mispronounced
the name. Yeah, because hepractices NonStop in the mirror. He wakes
up. He's got some names. He's got lists of names, you know,
and they're all pronounced, they're spelledout phonetically. So it's that's the
way to do it. There yougo, it, there you go.
(13:07):
But speaking of Gadowan, how aboutGermany at these Euros if there's any country
that has proved conclusively being a hostthat they want to win this tournament because
of their recent failures in the latestWorld Cups, which has been highly unusual.
(13:28):
But boy, they look sharp. You think they can beat Spain,
You think they can beat Spain.Spain is unbelievable in all that the front
six for Spain with Maratta Lamal,Niko Williams, how about the way that
he runs at you, oh my, and then Pedri Rodrick and Fabi and
(13:54):
Ruiz who's having a tremendous tournament. They look awfully strong as well. But
Germany for one person, for oneperson, Tony Kruse. Now there are
very various things underlying here. ForGermany, A they're playing at home.
B they have Tony Kruse who playsexactly the way he plays for Real mcgrid.
(14:16):
You notice how deep he comes toget the ball, and they know
that German players know to get himthe ball. Bill, can I interrupt
you for one second before you beforeyou leave, Tony Tony cruise as Derek
Ray would pronounce it. The nexttime you see me, I'm going to
have the Tony Kruz haircut. I'mconvinced it would improve my life. You.
(14:41):
I think it would definitely sharper. And by way, another thing for
the Euros, you cannot play Youcannot play for any country, for any
team in Euros unless you have tattoos. Yeah, well, I mean makes
sense to me. But and alsothe third thing I was thing about the
(15:01):
Germans and why they're doing so well. Uh, they're playing for number five
Franz Bacabauer. Yeah. Hold on, Bill, oh, Steven wonder everything,
sing it Bill, sing it,billing it go Bill? Oh,
come on, that's a big lineto tease us. All right, you
(15:22):
got it, man, I cansee you dancing that one of the c
y C dances there. Hey,listen, we collars with Bob Cuban in
the background. Ah, that's right, his collars were fourteen. Nobody's working
on that first mustache about seventeen.Nothing going, Ladies and gentlemen. You
are listening to KFN S five ninetythe fan. This is Steal United Soccer
(15:46):
Sunday show coming you from the environmentsthere and just mention sing it and the
best thing about that, the bestthink about the Stevie Wonder song or any
songs at that particular time from Motown. The Funk Brothers r in the back.
(16:06):
You're getting that started. I gotthat. Hey, Hey, let's
let's Bill. Let's jump over tomister Bursick because we don't have him so
terribly long. I'd like to hearDavid just give us and any observation about
city. Uh, and let's haveBill respond. How's that? That's fine?
(16:29):
Uh, well, there's a lot. I mean I haven't been here
for a few weeks. Yeah,I think you know, after the Chicago
game where they won three to one. It's been it's been a little bit
of a roller coaster since then, more more on the downside than the upside.
I mean, obviously you gotta look, I mean, losing Alm and
Ostrich. Yeah, I think eventhough you know, when you're watch an
(16:52):
average game, those aren't the twoplayers that always seem to stand out or
you know, seemed to have abig impact. But I think we missed
him tremendous. I really do.Can't agree more David, especially Ostrak who
at the first part of this year, in the absence of Luban, who
really seemed well, it seemed likehe was growing into the role of controlling
games. Yeah, and of coursenow missing Celio. I mean, you
(17:17):
know, you had the one playerthat could break a defense down in Italy
because I mean you look at someonelike lubn I mean, I love the
way he plays, I love hiseffort, I love everything. Can he
Can he break down the defense? You know, by himself? No?
With his passes, yes, butnot by himself, you know, David,
except he really shouldn't have filed thatguy. Let's have it. Let's
(17:38):
have a discussion about this. Okay, the referee, this is the first
goal that we had that was calledback. The referee is staring right at
Luvin when he makes that tackle, and it happens in the center circle,
center circle, clear as a bell. He sees it. I'm thinking to
myself, that could be a foul. He doesn't call it right now,
(18:00):
past past, past, past, boom, we score. Now we're thinking
it was off side as they called. And then they go back to a
play that happened what you know, eight nine seconds ago that he clearly looked
at. So I mean, thereferee's role is to make a call or
not make a call. So Imean, what if that happened, you
know, two minutes earlier. Imean, every call that a referee makes
(18:21):
or doesn't make impacts what happens forthe next whatever. Could be as much
as ten minutes, right, Soso how does he go back and look
at var if something he clearly sawwhen he was on the field, and
say, well, you know whatnow, I think it's a foul that
has to change. That cannot bea way that this sport is operates totally
(18:42):
agreed evident that was that was amicrocosm of that particular law slash rule being
not used correctly and the length oftime which took to all, you know,
overall orchestrate it. That's also apoint of concern for me. Now
David is a goalkeeper. Would youhave said, even though Klaus was in
(19:04):
an offside position, he was passive, but did he still obstruct or did
he still prevent Brad Guzan from playingthat ball? Well, I don't think
so, because it was deflected bythe defender. So you know, if
that ball was clean and whizzed rightby Klaus, you know, then yes,
(19:26):
and I don't you know, Idon't blame the keeper for claiming that
that was an issue, but Imean he had no chance to stop that
that that shot because it was deflected. So in that particular case, no,
But many other cases, yeah, you could say that, but not
not in that case, right right, But the Rasmus Alm aspect of when
you said Alm and ostrak Alm,if there was anybody on the flank who
(19:49):
was running at people, it washim on a consistent basis, And then
Celio on the left wing, who, as you said, Unlock's defense by
running at people and taking people onand getting into dangerous areas of the field,
so that if indeed, when he'srunning at people it gets filed in
the process, it's going to bea dangerous free kick. And Luvin I
(20:11):
think Luvin has adapted the style withHarry and Val. He used to always
tell us the ball is never goingto get tired, so you use the
ball. You use the ball toput it behind people. Case in point,
his first through ball to Thorrison veryearly in the game. That's what
we're used to seeing him do onthe ground behind people, making the defender
(20:33):
play on the protected side of theoffensive player. And that's what we have
missed as a team in the pasttwo three months. But now he seems
to be getting back into the overalltheme of playing for ninety minutes. But
the runs have to be there aswell. I think part of the issue
is he's not seeing those runs.I mean, if you look at these
games and you look at Luvin whenhe's on the ball, he's looking up
(20:56):
and it's pretty static, you know. And and I think that's one of
our issues with only one forward, you know, which is what we're playing
in most cases. I know yesterdaywe played two with Kajima. But those
runs have to be there, andI think that's one of our major issues
that we're not seeing those runs, either laterally or vertically. We're just not
seeing enough runs. And other thinkDavid, with reference to Klaus in particular,
(21:22):
I like it to what England's doingwith Harry Kane. Don't come back
so deep. We don't need youthis deep. I remember story when Brad
McBride went over to first play inGermany and he's running all over the field.
He's coming back to the center circle, he's going to the corner flag
arcs, he's coming to the thirtyfive yard nasl Old nasl Off sideline.
(21:44):
The coach says, what are youdoing? Yeah, well, I'm just
trying to find the game. I'mtrying to get involved. Of course,
I'll tell you what. You're herefor one reason. Stand in the penalty
area and we'll get you the ball. And that's how you're going to find
the game. Scoring head balls willflight plenty of balls into the penalty area,
(22:06):
and that's how you're going to getinvolved. And he's also a guy
who all many times told me hehated the concept and playing with one forward.
Klaus knows how to get open inthe box and that's where he belongs
where he's He's crafty and he's smart. He makes very small, subtle moves
to get himself open, just likethe assist that he received last night.
I mean you know, there weretwo guys that were on him and he
(22:30):
just sort of kind of leaked away, leaked away and just got to a
right position where he was able tohead that ball back to the vassal have
to score. That's where he's thestrongest. But you got to give him
space and and you know, sowe have to understand that. But you
have you know, the other players. My biggest argument is that our offensive
system misses the word system. Youknow, I'm not sure. I'm not
(22:53):
sure there is one saying that's critical. No, haven't I critical? No,
that's that's no. No, no, no, I'm saying you're what
I'm saying, you're suggesting that wouldbe a good idea to have in your
offensive system as also an offense welloverall, yeah, either word could be
omitted anytime, you know. TedTed pointed out last night that in his
(23:15):
opinion, uh that Klaus was toldstay around the box. And it's it's
funny because if you think about it, some of my memories from last year
are Klaus running the length of thefield to defend and stopping shots on goal.
So those are those are two ideasthat are contrary too. You know,
(23:41):
how do you how do you dealhow do you do both of those
things? And it's kind of likeyou were talking about last time that our
defenders were David, I'm pointing ifthe people in there listening can't can't see
this, but uh about a problemwith our defense that they were spending too
much time thinking about getting in theoffense right, Well, well, where's
(24:07):
number nine. Where's number nine fora reason, and that reason is you're
a goal scorer that's been in thehistory of the sport. The number nine
is the guy who stays in thepenaltaria and gets us actively involved in every
aspect of the offense as possible,in particular playing, as David mentioned a
moment ago, playing without the balland inside the penaltary. You have to
(24:30):
be adept and comfortable playing with yourback to go. We don't need you
chasing the left back at our ownteam's corner flag arc. That's not going
to help us when we try tobreak out correct I was very excited.
There was a moment last night andprobably no one else probably will remember this,
but there was a point last nightwhere we played a long ball.
(24:52):
Klaus backed up, his defender, received the ball and played it out to
our left wing. That could beone of the first, if not only
the second time. I'm in theentire season where he played as a true
target man where you could play theball up to him and he received it.
But the ball was played without height, and I think often we played
when we played the ball with heightlong, ninety eight percent of the time,
(25:15):
you know, our opponent ends upwith the ball. And we've talked
about that before here too. Maybethat is our plan. We play it
long, we just create it,create a little chaos, try to try
to pick up a loose ball, and then move on from there. But
I'd love to see I'd love tosee the ball played the Klaus more often
where he can actually control the balland play it off to a winger.
That that, for me, isjust a very simple approach. City a
(25:41):
lot. Last night they asked alot, but then what right? And
what Yeah? It transit They hadnumbers in transition at least three or four
times and we're unable to create anything. And one of them came off a
similar player that you're talking about,David, where they had Klaus as a
target man to him, he backedup his man and then he had to
(26:02):
flick onto Jose Kajima, and Ithink Jose Kajima with the ball's been great
despite playing in a position he doesn'ttypically play. But he just offers something
that we do not have, whichis a creative player in the final third,
and he tries to set people up. But that transitionary offense for City
is so poor, and I thinkyou a bit You saw it a bit
(26:23):
yesterday, but you saw it plentyon Wednesday. The start contrast between what
Colorado did in transition, both offensivelyand defensively, versus what City did offensively
and defensively. So, Klaus,I agree hundred percent. One, he
needs to be that target man.Two he needs to stay in the box.
But one he needs people who aregoing to run off of him well
and then be able to finish thetransition run. And two, if he's
(26:45):
gonna be in the box, heneeds service, and the service has been
lackluster. Two, So the twothings are great in theory, but one
you need the talent for lack ofa better word, and to you need
what we talked about, what Jordanmentioned, system to support it. Because
we've also had a couple opportunities whereChris Durkin is running into the channel and
(27:06):
he services the box, and youhave three guys at the front post and
nobody on the back post. Youknow, people need to know where they
can attack the box. Okay, hold on, Bill, hold on before
Bill, hold on, Bill, before I lose. You. Have you
seen the Reggie Jackson comment at what'sthe name of the field. Sorry,
(27:26):
we're gonna lose. Okay, didyou see his comment during his interview?
I did not. I heard aboutthem, and I understand he was.
He was very, very honest, tremendously honest. Don't what they transpire with
(27:48):
him and his youthful career. Whatdid you say, David before when we
were talking about it, this issomething that they should teach, you know,
to talk about, you know, how to rewrite our history. Well
that that is our history, thatis our history. And I think that's
maybe why he took that approach, that he wanted people to hear what his
life was like. Unbelievable for me. I was never a Reggie Jackson fan.
(28:11):
I just I'm not really a baseballfan. I just I didn't.
I didn't care about him or orit. But he always seemed like a
kind of a braggart kind of guy. But man, when somebody lays the
truth out at a moment when noone's expecting it. Right, all those
guys, I'm sure they were watchingtheir careers go up and smoke in their
(28:34):
eyes, right, And that dudejust laid it out and said I lived
it basically, f Off, AndI thought, oh, I love this
guy. Now, I absolutely lovethis guy. Now, Bill, go
ahead before we get, Before Ileave, just a quick couple quick things
about two other teams, England inparticular. And I was listening to Phil
(28:56):
Neville's comments about England and he wasvery stark in his criticism of England.
He said, I wrote this down. We've never been able to get out
of the back in high pressure moments, and right now Gareth Southgate is trying
to put square pegs in round holes. He said. The big gamble,
(29:19):
the absolute biggest gamble, was puttingAlexander Arnold at the wide midfield spot when
he's not accustomed to play there. It's a big ask for him because there's
not enough movement at top. Harrykanees coming back too deep. We just
talked about that, and more orless, if you watch decland Rice,
who doesn't seem to be at homevery often because he feels I think I
(29:42):
think he feels like he has tobabysit Alexander Arnold in possession and that's the
biggest problem. Now. France,on the other hand, they haven't scored
a goal yet. What France,Oh my what? And they are a
different team obviously in Miami, adifferent team without Messi. Germany when they
(30:02):
won the European Championship in seventy two, when they ruled the world, they
couldn't have played without Gundrenetzer. Butyou cannot play. They can't play without
Killing and Bappe because dem Belli andTuram have been marginal at best. Bill,
Bill, who's the leading score?Who's the leading scorer in the Euros?
Do you know right now? It'sOh, yes, I do,
(30:23):
it's Lucy Alla No, well yeah, but the main score is own goals.
There are six or seven own goalsand that's the leading that's the leading
scorer in the Euros. And therehave been where there were six own goals
Tom in twenty twenty one, Well, Na, Mattie will catch him,
(30:44):
there were eleven. Hello all right, Bill, the great Bill McDermott,
thanks a lot. I gotta headoff the Soccer Master to get my replica.
Alco. They're working on that mustacheagain. They opened it eleven on
Sundays. All right, that wrapsup, wraps up this half hour.
We're gonna pay a few bills. Please stay with us. We got If
you like this, as letterman said, buckle in and get a bucket of
(31:08):
dip. There's more come and we'llbe right back after these brief announcements.
Shakira, Shakira, welcome, welcomeback, everybody. Do s t a
(31:52):
United Soccer Sunday coming to you livefrom k f N S five ninety the
fan Saint Louis, Missouri. Andthat song means only one thing. It
means said the goal, getting hotand heavy in your head, said the
goal. The music just represents it. Did I say that right? S
close close? So Santiago, Well, Tru Sati got to call a goal
(32:22):
last night. I was so happyfor you. I was too. It's
been a while but I got tocall a goal actually too, but then
one was called back. But yeah, it was great to hear the excitement
about getting a goal and Pitty Parkgetting so loud. It was great.
(32:44):
It was great to call the goal. But in the end, another time.
So I'm a little worried about that. Oh, I guess what did
you think? We've been talking aboutthe play where Luvin just obviously that guy
at midfield and the ref. Whathappened is the ref must have sneezed when
(33:06):
he fouled him because he didn't pickit up, and then we scored the
goal. But then apparently apparently nowwith var they can go back to when
these guys were in high school andreview plays. He said, well,
you know that that affected the goal. What's your take on that. Yeah,
they can look at the build up. I know, it's frustrating because
(33:29):
they called didn't go see this way. What's more prostrating is that the red
was very close to where the playwhere that foul happened. He was like
five feet from it, and heeven like waves for play to continue.
Not sure what the video review assistantso and told him, but yeah,
(33:52):
it's just frustrating a city cannot geta break on these viar calls. It
to me, it's like every timethey go against the team. It's not
quite Belgium Belgian, you know.Roman Lukakuh has had three goals disallowed in
the Euros from Vaar calls, yeah, yeah, offside by what two inches?
(34:15):
Yees? Ridiculous? I mean,is sure, are they right?
Or the one ball where the balljumps up hits the guy just barely touches
his hand. Okay, how thatwasn't intentional? Isn't it supposed to be
intentional or not? Handballs? It'snot always intentional, Noka. But you
(34:35):
know, I understand if it's deflectedand it pops up and hits you in
the hand, you can't do anythingabout that, you know. But when
you jump up in your arms areway out here and it hits you in
the arm, well that's not necessarilyintentional. Yeah, yeah, right.
The real changed in twenty nineteen. And I don't know why I know this,
but I mean it could have beenand is because of the Champions League
final when Liverpool played Tottenham. Inthe second minute of the game, Sadiomye
(35:00):
kicked the ball into Musa Sosoko's armand they called it a penalty two minutes
in and so because it was soclose and the defender doesn't have time to
react and his arms were in aplaying position, it was it is no
longer a penalty, whereas in thatscenario what five years ago because it quote
(35:22):
unquote took away a goal opportunity,it was a penalty, and so that
rule was actually changed similar to becausethis is the story of my fandom and
sports, the Dallas Cowboys, GreenBay Packers, does Briant catch that?
Now the ball cannot cause an incompletepass if you carry into a football move
with possessions. So rule changes thanksto thanks to my teams. In life,
(35:44):
Sandia, I'm thinking about how itaffects you when you're broadcasting, right,
because you're calling the game and youknow you call the goal, you've
got to you got it, andthen now it's like you just have to
wait. It was like five minutes, Wasn't it ridiculous? How what do
you what do you talk about?Obviously I kind of can't understand what you're
(36:05):
saying during the broadcast. It soundsgreat, but right your inflection as perfecto.
But uh no, what do youdo? Then you just like,
you know, twittle your thumbs orwhat? Yeah? No, So initially,
when when the play happened, Istarted to call the goal, but
right away I saw the assistant refereewith his flag apps, so I stopped
(36:30):
because I knew he was going tobe reviewed. But I was thinking,
Okay, once the review is completed, if they confirmed the goal, do
I go back and call it asif I was calling a goal. So
I was that's what I was goingto do. Okay, well I've just
called it now official, but unfortunately, uh, the ref had a different
(36:52):
idea. But yeah, all thosefive minutes we were just looking at the
replay and talking about it, andas we got updates that initially they were
looking for the off site and thenthey ruled out that it was an offside,
but then they went back and lookedat the at the bid as the
build up on the play and asthey were showing the replay, we were
(37:15):
talking about that. But but yeah, it was one of those that could
have gone city way didn't. I'mglad the team stayed resilient and kept looking
for the goal, and uh thefact that that wasn't called in its favor
and then somewhere missed opportunities. Theykept pushing, and I liked compared to
(37:39):
Wednesday, they're showing the Wednesday, but still frustrating that the team is not
winning at home and getting behind onthe table. That's a dangerous game to
play, though, is Wednesday wasso bad. Yeah, so bad that
if you compare yesterday's per four monthsto Wednesday, yeah, sonta, Yesterday
(38:02):
looked great. I think there wasa lot of positives. We started to
build a bit, you know, like like David said, you know,
seeing job playing in a target manrole was great. Uh, transition was
a bit better. NUKV had someopportunities, we created chances, there was
there was you know, a savedpenalty and a couple unlucky things. All
these things you can point to.But if you take Colorado's game, Wednesday
(38:23):
Night's game out of context, thatgame looked a lot like the other six
games on this eight game streak wherewe have not won a game where things
are looking okay. Maybe we hada couple missed opportunities inter Miami, you
could have won it. But thereal the reality is is we still have
won a game in eight games, and Colorado aside, this one looked a
(38:45):
lot like the other six. Iseemed the Dream is going to try to
drive NUKV to the airport. Isee the Dream would drive like the whole
team out of city if you possiblycould. That's that's just that's just the
passion that a seem the scene carrieswith him day in and day out,
so shady, but give Nubi abreak. He had a better game yesterday.
(39:07):
I think the fact that he started, I got to spend the time
watched positive for him. He madesome good moves, some good runs.
Obviously ha scored that goal that wascalled back would have been great for his
confidence. And yeah, it's alsomore positives seeing guys from City two like
Michael Venzel and Jay Reid like havinggood games and stepping up to the opportunity.
(39:32):
That was good to see. Butagain, another draw and you have
to start getting three points and onlysix home games left, so I'm a
little bit concerned because City not onlyneeds to win its remaining hommage, but
needs to also get points playing away. Jane Reid played his way into the
(39:53):
starting eleven just given the lack ofdeath, we haven't left back Anthony Marchanic's
find an offense and and read goinginto it. Dale Shilley talked about how
you know he's great. He's physically, he's a good defender positionally, but
he doesn't offer a lot going forward, and sure enough he's the only one
that sets up the assist for theday. But going back to NUKEVI,
there is no player on that teamthat I want to succeed more than NUKEV.
(40:16):
Poor guy, man, I justhe's so such a good dude.
He has all the tools that youwould hope that he could bring to the
table, but man, there's justsomething about it. I'll share a quick
story, Santi, this is hilarious. I was filming him at practice one
day and he was just doing someshooting drills because Lord knows he needs it,
and so he's working on his shootingdrills and he's ripping them, ripping
(40:37):
them. So I'm like, oh, you know what, let me pull
my camera out because I think thisguy's gonna he's kind of coming to his
own. Let me get a coupleof shots of him. When I hit
record, this man three times justmissed one off the post and two just
skided. I'm like, there's justthis man is cursed. There's something about
this camera. When the lights areon this guy, I cannot score a
(41:00):
goal and I feel so bad.And so when he scored yesterday, it
was just so reminiscent of that momentfor me at training and also what ended
up being the rest of the game, a lot of yes. But yes,
yes we scored, but there wasa foul. Yes, Roman Brickie
said the penalty, but they endedup scoring afterwards. Yes we played,
Okay, we still didn't win.Hey, Santi, we got a role
(41:22):
brother. All right, I'm justgonna say very quick, now we know
what's going on with Nugby. Isthat Daniel Court? It's me? This
is fault Juggle fell truy and Santitakes us up to Thanks, Santi.
Santi takes us up to a quickreminder of playing in the background. Here
(41:45):
is a if you you have tobe some other fairly big Stones fan to
recognize this song. This who me? Yeah? Oh this is for a
Richie Bear. If you're listening, this one's for you. This is Factory
Girl from the nineteen sixty eight albumBaker's Banquet, describing his taste in women
at that point and probably this isprobably when they started getting serious about writing
(42:06):
their own stuff. We are listeningto camp and s five nine of the
fans waiting for a girl with curlersin her hair. All right, I
can't think of a better leading toDaniel's partner in crime and News. What
is it again? News? Coverage. You can count coverage, you can
(42:29):
count on check. This guy isan anchor, Tom, come on,
Oh no, no, Jordan's areal deal. I listen. I'm stepping
out of the room with that.Yeah, well that would not be a
bad idea, but no, I'monly joking ladies and gentlemen from Channel two
and eleven and all that other stuff. Jordan Williams, How you doing,
(42:51):
Jordan, I'm doing well. CopaAmerica has started. Oh yeah, yes,
have you watched it? I watcheda little bit Argentina. I watched
game one. It's really exciting time. We've obviously talked about just USA obviously
hosting the World Cup. This iskind of the preamble, I guess,
right, So that and then obviouslywe have the Club World Cup next year,
so it's all all getting ready forCOPA, which is really exciting.
(43:13):
The uh, there's a huge difference. I don't know, David, have
you seen much Hero and COPA bitsand pieces? The difference in the physical
ness of the game. The gamesI've watched in Copa America, it's just
knockdown, drag out stuff. Wellthat's the thing about well, Conker cap
(43:34):
is typically pretty dirty. Yeah, obviously this is with South America as well,
but yeah, you'd think that it'sprobably a little bit more physical.
Oh man, it was unbelievable. So who's the pick, Brazil or No,
Argentina. I guess yeah, ArgentinaI think is the favorite. Brazil
is the second favorite. Uruguay isalso there as well. Today USA plays
Bolivia at five, which should bean interesting game. What do you think?
(43:57):
What do you think about the US? I actually give him an outside
shots, to be honest. Imean they're like six or seventh favorites.
When you talk about this Golden Generationand a lot of people have said that
they haven't done anything. This istheir opportunity to do something. Obviously,
I think they're outside favorites. It'sreally interesting how the tournament was laid out.
A lot of people had an issuewith Argentina winning the World Cup and
guitar because they think that the refereeswere kind of trying for Messi to win.
(44:21):
No, but if you look atthe star that the robe was cool.
The robe was cool. I feelsme. I don't think I would
have worn the road down of ruinsthe photo, but I guess that's part
of the culture there. So Iguess it makes the photo a little bit
special if you want to look atit that way. But if you look
at Copa America in the way thatthe knockout stages are set up on Argentina
side, if they are to gothrough, the only hard team they'll have
(44:43):
to play, I think is Mexico. Maybe you have Uruguay, Colombia,
USA and Brazil all on one side, which is peculiar. You probably want
to balance out. Yeah, I'dgive you USA an outside shot. I
would say part of that is becausewe're coming up to tomorrow is the fifteen
year anniversary of I would say,is USA's biggest win at any major tournament,
(45:08):
putting everyone on the spot if theycan remember fifteen years ago David Brazil
Spain in the Confederations Cup YEA,in the cutup YEP, the year before
the twenty ten worth that got hopesup. Well, then they played Brazil
and they were I think they werewinning two zero against Brazil or they lost
(45:28):
three two, But it was justan insane game and it's kind of a
perfect time to look back at itand kind of revitalize the team. I'd
imagine Berhalter is kind of bringing somethingup like that to the players and saying,
hey, look back at this teamand you'd think the Spain then maybe
Confederations Cup. Maybe they didn't sendlike their best lineup, but they had
PK Chabi Alonso. Oh that waslike one of their first teams. I
(45:52):
think there was a couple of playersmissing, like Iniesta didn't play. But
you know, really you bring upthe Golden generation, David, I want
to hear you talk about the hasthe United States had a Golden generation?
Yet? How about silver? What'sthe golden generation though? Because people like
(46:14):
to say it's until they win something. But you can say the Netherlands had
the one with van Persi and Schneider, Belgia or Belgium, you know,
yea perfect they have a golden generation. You have to have some extended period,
right, You've had moments do youhave to do you have to win
something big? If you're talking aboutus, no, No, you can
(46:36):
make it to a to a semi, you can make it to the quarters.
You know, it depends on theon the situation and the opponents.
But we've had our moments where you'reright, we're all of a sudden,
Okay, we're there, We're there. Well, you know we're not.
So we're getting there. We're gettingthere in terms of this generation, the
most talent by far, without adoubt. But I think the thing people
(46:59):
forget is everybody else is getting bettertoo. Right. If people do ask
me like, well, when's theUS going to catch up? And I
said, well, when we taketen year olds and put them in a
facility where all they do is goto school and train for soccer, right,
that's not going to happen. Right, that's not going to happen.
You know. I mean Brazil breedsplayers, they create players, they develop
(47:22):
players from a very very young age. The culture. But it's the part
of culture and in the US that'sthat's very difficult to replicate. How much
how much of it do you thinkis the fact that, I mean everybody's
got their opinion on this, isthat our best athletes are not playing soccer.
Well, it's all about ease ofaccess. I mean, you talk
(47:43):
about soccer as a global sport. It's because you just need a ball,
right, and you can put somechalk lines and go kick it a wall.
Right. Well, that sport inthe US is basketball. You need
is a ball and you go stribblearound. And the reality is is when
you walk down New York City, you know, you're not saying a bunch
of soccer goals. You thinking aboutto basketball courts, But you walk down
Rio de Janeiro or Sapoulo, right, and all you're gonna see is a
(48:05):
bunch of soccer goals. You know. That's why we're producing the best NBA
talent or best basketball talent, whereasthe rest of the world is is we're
producing most of the great Yeah that'sa discussion on aau actually, but that's
we'll save that for another I wouldmaybe disagree with when people bring up that
point, like our best athletes aren'tplaying soccer, because I mean, yeah,
you could argue that soccer is probablynot a top sport, but I
(48:25):
mean we have top athletes in everysport for the most part. When you
look at the Olympics, I meanwe more like I mean, you dominate
the Olympics, You're not going todominate every sport, but you have a
lot of players just playing a lotof stuff, and that's what comes with
being a big country. I thinkthe great thing about this set of players
that we have right now is thatit raises the standard for USA. So
when we go into this Copain,if you look back, we've played in
(48:49):
Copa America's before. The last onewe played and I think was twenty sixteen
and we got fourth place, likewe made it to the knockout stage beat
it was Ecuador or something. Soit's raising the standard. So I think
in a tournament like this, it'sgoing to be really hard because whether they
win or come second in the group, and you assume everyone else does what
they're supposed to do, we're goingto play Brazil or Columbia. Brazil obviously,
(49:09):
I mean, we just played Braziland it was decent. We played
Columbia kind of got smashed. Idon't know if they if Greg was messing
with the tactics or whatever, orimplementing any sort of tactics, depending on
what kind of fan you are,on how you look at Greg. But
it'll be really interesting because a successfor this tournament, I mean they have
(49:30):
to win. They have to eitherwin or come second in their group and
then beat Brazil or Columbia, andthat's a tall task, I think,
but it'll be I think that's what'sgreat about this set of players is obviously
they haven't won anything yet, butthey're right raising that standard. And if
you if you were to look backand again looking at this golden generation is
when we hosted the World Cup inninety four. This is probably around the
(49:53):
time you'd expect like a crop ofplayers to come up from that, whether
their parents were watching. A fewyears later you had a MLS and then
this group of players that were bornin insteady eight, ninety nine, two
thousand, instead of Netflix and Chill, it was Cup Show. Yeah,
so it'll be a really interesting tournament. And I think they have a good
(50:14):
chance. Like I said, Ithink they have a good chance, and
I think if they they come together. Obviously it's a talented group of players.
They'll just have to do something thatthey haven't done quite often under Greg,
and that's like win against great competition. They've won, they've won a
Nation's League, they've won a GoldCup with Greg. They just haven't done
a lot obviously. Well, we'vegot the secret weapon, you guys.
I'm sure you guys Heardina Heiorina's girlfriendhas helped keeping him grounded. The big
(50:38):
story they were talking about, allright, the Orina's head is in the
right place right now. Heading intothis and that's gonna hey, I'd go
get my own coffee today. Okay, that's that's ridiculous. It was a
I don't know if you're referring,it was a Jenny Taft. She was
doing like a sideline report, andI was like, this is just a
weird thing to talk about. ButI was like, I guess if if
you're gonna compare like our soccer teamto like our basketball team, if it
(51:01):
was like one of our stars wouldbe like, oh, you know,
it would make sense if they're like, oh, Lebron James got married and
that's helping him stay grounded. Butjust like Giorana not being like why why
are we carrying? Okay, personallife. This is maybe the best time
to interject this because I read thisin a in a some It was in
a book I read about the NBA. You read, yeah, I do,
(51:22):
and you're like, picture, okay, okay, that's what I thought.
But the guy made the comment thatin the NBA team's road records had
really improved, and he gave acertain date and I can't remember exactly what
that date was, but then hewent on to say that that was with
(51:44):
with Tinder and all those kind ofsex apps and so guys when they went
to apps to not sex apps.I don't know what you use him for.
I wouldn't know how to use it. I wouldn't know how to use
it. Not Well, we usedto have a guy who would work here
to be doing on his phone.Yeah, who I love that guy.
(52:04):
I wish he'd come back. Buthe did well at something. Tom.
You know, one of the greatestfeats of journalism in history, and I
mean this seriously, I can't wasthe man tracked James Harden's performance relative to
the city's strip clubs and catered everyperformance on the court to the quality of
(52:27):
and and number of quality and quantityof strip club in said city that he
was at. Did that improve hisperformance? Did not improve his performance?
Can you imagine if you? Butit was a start contract, very obvious
decrease in performance relative to increases.Well, see he's an old guy.
He must have come around before thisnew technology. Because the guy's point was,
(52:52):
they don't spend any of their timelooking. They've got everything set up
ahead of time, so they justgo and take care of business and go
to sleep. And their sleep hasimproved. And at for an athlete.
If your sleep improves, your performanceimproves. This was this guy's point,
and he pretended he had statistics theymay or may not have been, but
I just love the argument. Sowhat you're saying is Greg Burholton needs to
(53:14):
give each of these players an iPhonetender locked in, nge locked in.
I just need you guys swiping.I'm not saying that. I'm just observing
and historical point that was made tome, and I don't have the facts
to prove it. I just thinkit's interesting. What's that? Yeah?
(53:37):
Oh cool, all right, great, So you want to know we still
got a couple of minutes in this. In this in your segment, Jordan,
who we want to we can talkabout England. Yeah, but England's
the most interesting team at the Euros. I thought it was really interesting when
Bill brought up that France hadn't scored. That was interesting. They scored an
old goal in the first goal.Yeah, I didn't realize that. Yeah,
(53:59):
so England Boppy has never scored inthe Euros. Interesting. Bill had
brought up England and Phil Neville andkind of what they've got going on.
So I do think that is veryaccurate. A lot of my YouTube recommendations.
We've talked about the rest is football. I just see a lot of
England punditry come across my time. Then I do think that is true.
I do think Rice is babysitting AlexanderArnold. I watched their first game and
(54:22):
I thought he was horrible in themidfield. I think the idea is to
have him Arnold Trent Trent. Ithink the idea is to have Trent kind
of ping passes around. Yeah,and it's I just don't think it's work.
He just doesn't really even look naturally. He'll be Calvin Phillips. Yeah,
that's what Garrett said. Okay, all right, Well I'm glad I
have replacements, and I think thatthey Adam Wharton. I I don't know
(54:45):
this guy, but he plays forCrystal Palace and they brought him for a
reason. He's a midfielder, soI think he should probably Okay, you
bring up he went back to theEuros. So I'm gonna make this point.
Why don't they have people on AmericanTV who speak American English so that
I can understand them. I liketo watch, like, I watch a
(55:06):
lot of soccer, but I'm notwatching it all the time, like I
might be out in the kitchen,or I might be doing the log or
something. So I rely on theguys describing the action so that I can
understand what's going on. Some oflike some of these guys, I literally
can't Derek Ray and ever whoever he'swith like an English goalie. They have
(55:29):
conversations that I literally when they saythe people's names, I realize that those
are the only words I recognize. You can't tell me that they don't have
enough announcers. This is not acriticism of Fox, of course, but
that they don't have announcers and therearen't enough Americans, or at least people
who can speak understandable English. Idon't think I should need to learn another
(55:54):
language to watch a game on TV. I watched Univision if I want to,
If I'm want to do that,I'm just having a lot of people
turn on the caption. I'm notserious. No, I thought about that,
but then it takes up too muchof the field. Well, it's
ridiculous. I do think Fox's analysttable is very interesting with k and Sturge
and Lawless and lawless. Geez,we can't come up with somebody else other
(56:20):
than Alexi Lawless to be on myTV all day. It's crazy. Shock
the Monkey, Peter Gabriel taking thisout, Shock the Monkey. We've shock
some monkeys around here. I thinkthis point. Don't go anywhere, because
we're going to be coming right backafter these announcements, with more from Dave
Bersick, from Jordan Williams and MattBaker Baker from Fly Fly Over Footing.
(56:44):
I hope you're sitting down because there'sso much to absorb your little brain.
It's gonna pop. We'll be rightback after these announcements. I don't like
it when you're talking me that way. Good morning. I'm an tell you
