Speaker 1 (00:10):
The suppression of the use of marijuana, and these is
looking behind it are the most important jobs. Talking Glog
ninety day, the records on marijuana, and the Washington Office
and Artonic Division gustually build a small former like this
today they built pattern.

Speaker 2 (00:28):
Welcome, ladies and gentlemen, Coloradians and everyone that's mort enough
to listen from the outside.

Speaker 3 (00:36):
One of the most amazing plants we've ever discovered.

Speaker 2 (00:40):
The pot Talking, the Trippers, the glass Coopers, the hip Wook,
all gathered in secrecy and flying Eye.

Speaker 4 (00:47):
As a company.

Speaker 2 (00:52):
Welcome back, ladies and gentlemen to another episode of Stone Depetite.
If you haven't noticed, I am on my ones and twos.

Speaker 3 (01:01):
We're recording on location. Today.

Speaker 2 (01:03):
We're sitting down with the Man, the Myth, the Legend,
John spatafora to talk about a brand you've heard about,
especially if you're a regular on the podcast listenership, but
you've also seen them on our social media and likely
you've seen them on shelves across Colorado dispensaries. We're sitting
down to talk about Flower Union. You've heard us use

(01:25):
the phrase if you go out of your way for
good food or good wine, why are you not going
out of your way for good cannabis. That is the
ethos of this fucking brand. Clean ingredients, single source ingredients,
proper terpenes. I mean we're talking dried fruit. I mean
it's we're not shaving it off the skin of my arm.

(01:47):
They're talking about real fucking flavors. And we wanted to
dive into the nitty gritty to learn a little bit
more about this new brand that is starting to really
take over and as we claimed it on social media,
it's the edible of the hospitality industry. Y'all are gonna
really enjoy this interview because not only is John a

(02:07):
friend where I can fuck with him, poke the bear
a little bit, but also he's gonna impart a little
bit of wisdom and he's really gonna resonate a lot
with the casual consumer, but also for the regular user.
If you're a fifty milligram guy, fret not, We've got
you covered. Maybe you're the mom that put the kids
down and they are fucking pill because it's summer and

(02:29):
they're out of school.

Speaker 3 (02:31):
Fret not.

Speaker 2 (02:31):
John's gonna lay out the whole concept of why this
edible has come to fruition. They're made here, they're sourced here,
and we're drinking locally as so if you hear a
little background noise, it's because we're supporting local businesses. And
that's what Flower Union has been about since day one,
without further ado, our episode with John spatafora.

Speaker 4 (02:55):
Dude, if I was to have a walk up song
in the in the for of an announcement, that was it.
That was spectacular.

Speaker 3 (03:02):
Yeah, I gash you off. You better not fuck this.

Speaker 4 (03:04):
I feel like you set the expectation is pretty high.

Speaker 3 (03:06):
Yeah, I hope it. I didn't tell me you were bald,
so maybe they think you're handsome.

Speaker 4 (03:10):
I have a face made for radio and a voice
made for print.

Speaker 3 (03:13):
So hey, my name's kill.

Speaker 2 (03:15):
People will tell me I sound like Bill Paxton, and
I look like Bill Paxton, but from like the weird
science day and age when he was like very unbecoming.

Speaker 4 (03:25):
So I get that feeling Bill Paxon. That's how I
get it. I get it.

Speaker 2 (03:29):
For our longtime listeners. Some of y'all may remember John.
He's been on the podcast a time or two. I
think last time was with your previous iteration of a
cannabis brand. But you in twenty twenty five have now
launched an edible brand that has really taken hold not
only in Colorado, but y'all are dropping bombs all across

(03:51):
the country and legalized markets.

Speaker 4 (03:53):
Yeah, we're in New Jersey now, I congrats.

Speaker 3 (03:55):
It's Sopranos meet Snooky Slash.

Speaker 4 (03:58):
The Wrizzler, exactly right in Jersey. Short, you're looking for,
looking for the situation at all all points in time.

Speaker 2 (04:03):
Yeah, it's white trash meat skiing. That's exactly what we
are on the exactly right.

Speaker 4 (04:07):
That's why we're here today.

Speaker 3 (04:08):
Okay.

Speaker 2 (04:08):
But for those that maybe didn't scroll back to twenty
twenty two or whenever the last time we had you
on the podcast, we'd like to start every episode the
same way, and it's just kind of break the ice.
Get to know the guest himself. John, tell us a
little bit about your backstory. How'd you get into cannabis?
I mean, give the debauchery version of you running through
Vegas with your dick in your hand.

Speaker 3 (04:30):
Tell us the whole kit and kaboodle.

Speaker 4 (04:32):
The whole without the Vegas dick in the hand.

Speaker 3 (04:34):
Story, No given?

Speaker 4 (04:35):
Oh you want to you wanna?

Speaker 3 (04:37):
Uh?

Speaker 4 (04:37):
Yeah? So I was the head of sales and marketing
for Baritas for a long time I was here. I
really through that process fell in love with the terps
and the way that people were able to develop such
the magical tendencies that allow cannabis to be such a
unique product. So I was really lucky. I gotta be
with the big cannabis brand for a long time. As
we grew a market that was the first one in

(04:58):
the country, we had great opportunity to connect with so
many great people, both in industry and in the state.
So it was awesome. I fell in love with cannabis.
I fell in love with how you could create, you know,
not just great flavors and not just great aromas, but
also really consistent in great effects. And so that's what
this scummy is about. It's trying to find a way
to bring those effects into a larger audience. And maybe

(05:20):
isn't into smoking as much.

Speaker 3 (05:21):
No, you're exactly right.

Speaker 2 (05:22):
And one thing, and one reason we love working with
you is because not only do you have that hospitality touch,
but you have the ethos of a cannabis brand before
the MSOs kind of grabbed hold of yeah, and you know,
it's always been a race to the bottom, whether it's
the products that you source the brands that you align with,

(05:44):
you kind of you know everything, You've had your fingers
in so many pies, pardon the pun, But now you've
launched this new iteration and this new brand that really
kind of channels your belief, you know, of what you
want to see out of the industry, and Colorado's kind
of been lacking that for a couple of years now.

Speaker 4 (06:05):
You know, colrad has been a tough place to do
business for a long time, and a lot of people
have really worked really hard, and you know, the market's
gotten smaller, and many of us weren't set up for
the problems that you face today. You know, that was
the problem with Veritas. We we never answered the questions
about cost production. We focused on other things. And then
when this market kind of fell apart, you know, it

(06:26):
became really challenging, and innovation became a tough thing to
do because you couldn't put time and energy into trying
to figure out new stuff. You were trying to figure
out to keep what you had going. And so it's
car has been a brutal spot. But I also think
Colorad was an amazing place to launch a product because
you have an incredibly educated consumer. You've got a ton
of great products. You got people who know what the
fuck they're doing.

Speaker 2 (06:46):
Yeah, now you're keeping just put it on this side
so that folks can hear you, because you're talking to.

Speaker 4 (06:52):
Me, I talk on the right side.

Speaker 3 (06:53):
Yeah, so I want to make sure.

Speaker 2 (06:54):
But you're exactly right, you know, like you recognize the
faults that maybe came from preview, you know, endeavors, and
you've kind of let the market correct itself and then
you have kind of leaned into what you know and
how to be a better brand for it and for
the consumer and the process.

Speaker 4 (07:14):
Well, yeah, it's been amazing. Now instead of you know,
I get to go around to people who produce great
weed and say, what are you excited about? And I
let them show me through their gardens. I let them
show me the terps that they're excited about, or the
strains that they think are unique, or the things they
think that differentiate them and really kind of showcase what
they're doing it. And I get to work with that
and showcase that a different way. So it's been a
really great way to move from all the things that

(07:36):
were happening in the old days, you know, to suck
in pictures were. You know, it's been a great transition
away from you after falling in love with the plant
and falling in love with the way that you really
could create an amazing experience. And that's why I loved
a Veritas. We had so many amazing consumers who would
reach out every week and be like, where can I
find this? Or I need to find this? And you know,

(07:58):
I really learned that for a lot of people, this
plant is an effective way of managing so many different
things right. And so now I get to go to
other production, other facilities, and I talk to great cultivators
and say, what are you excited about? Show me what
you're good at and what you did well, get your
dickcard right? What do you think makes you better than
the guy next door? And you know, people's eyes light

(08:18):
up because then you're not asking the same stupid questions
that they're used to being asked, what's the eighest potency?
How are you doing this? And they start telling you
stories about why they get involved in what they love,
And then we've got a unique way of showcasing it
and we can we can share that product with a
much bigger audience. It's been an amazing transition. It's been
therapeutic after going through the tumultuous nature of building a
brand and working with a brand that rose to the

(08:40):
top and didn't have all the right things in mind
and struggled and fell apart, you know, this ability to
go back into engaging this product that we love and
approaching it from a way of Okay, we've learned a
lot of lessons, how do we do this differently, how
do we make this more approachable? How do we put
out something people love, you know, and also be able
to showcase all these other people are doing so well.

(09:02):
And that's what's so cool. Color. It's great this community
of so many people who are really good at what
they do.

Speaker 2 (09:07):
Now, No, you're exactly right, and obviously, you know, you
kind of learned the hiccups, the bounces and what not
to do for this round. But what I think y'all
have done beautifully, And you know, we've gotten a lot
of questions, which is the reason we wanted join the
podcast to dismiss or dismiss some of those issues, dispel

(09:27):
some of those shout outs to Mariah, she's out here
making sure we look great and sound great, but like, yeah,
fucking a, no, I wasn't okay, so y'all can't hear,
but she's just belittling me. It's like Eve is back
all over again. Maybe we hire Mariah to join us.

Speaker 4 (09:48):
She could be like the devil on his shoulder.

Speaker 2 (09:49):
Oh yeah, that's what we'll call it. But no one
thing y'all have done is y'all you knew your pitfalls
and you came back and you were like, how do
we do?

Speaker 3 (09:59):
What's rate about Colorado?

Speaker 2 (10:01):
Because we've seen it, especially over the last four to
five years since COVID, everybody deemed it essential. A lot
of large investments went into, whether it was dissolate programs
or a race to the bottom to create the.

Speaker 3 (10:15):
Most price friendly option.

Speaker 2 (10:18):
Y'all found the way to highlight what brands are passionate
about and what they do best and then put it
to a consumer or give it to a consumer to
where it's like, this is what y'all have always wanted,
and it's at a fucking friendly price point and a
lot of the things that we've had issues with. I mean,
we've only been working with y'all for a month. We've

(10:38):
done social media outreach. Y'all were kind enough to team
up with Mile High Asian Food Week, y'all are teaming
up with you know our giveaway that we just did
last week for the Colorado Restaurant Association and shout out
to Chef Loca over at Karne.

Speaker 3 (10:52):
Because it is a hospitality like nature.

Speaker 2 (10:55):
If you go out it, like if you're looking for
dank s pekanya, if your looking for a brutally choice
moist salmon, then why would you not go out of
your way for the same kind of buzz or the
wine that you go out for. And you've brought that
into just a nucleus of how y'all operate business. And
so I had a litany of questions that I wanted

(11:17):
you to answer from the community.

Speaker 3 (11:19):
And I think the first start is how did we
come up with what is flavor?

Speaker 2 (11:24):
Our flavor flo Flower Union and where did it kind
of spur from.

Speaker 4 (11:28):
Yeah, so I'll give you the quick backstory. The product
was started. There's a company out of New Mexico called Azuka.
A Zuka is an ingredient company, and so I think
this speaks to the real reason why this is such
a necessary product. Like when you think of someone who
wants to experience cannabis and the easiest way to do
that eating cannabis. Having an edible is the way. It
is the easiest way to consume. You don't have to

(11:49):
know any tricks out to roll a joint, how to
light a dab brig, how to nobody knows you're doing.
There's no smell. But after you consume, it's the most
difficult way to experience cannabis typically, and that's because most
of the time in edibles, the cannabinoids your body to
a fat and your body processes fat the way it
processes it. It goes last, it goes through your liver, and
the high is different. It gets converted to this really

(12:10):
lethargic that puts you down in the couch high, right,
And that's what edibles do. And when we started thinking
about this project, we started talking. We talked to a
lot of people, and we found that consumers all kinds
of people were terrified a edibles. And that didn't matter
if people who had a lot of weed in their life,
for people who didn't have a lot of weight in
their life. The theory of you're gonna get so high,
you're not gonna know how hig you're gonna get. You're
not gonna know what's end that's a scary thing, right,

(12:32):
And so Azuka does this magic trick where they can
make cannabinoids water soluble, and so what that means is
that your body can accept them the same way that
it accepts them if you smoke. And so the magic
of this gummy is that it comes on really fast,
and it comes on the way that it would if
you smoked it, but then it also goes away in
two or three hours. And so when I realized that,
we realized that it was very consistent and that it

(12:54):
would come on fast. We were very consistent in that
if the turfs in the cannabis would make you feel engaged,
this gummy made you feel engage. If the kerbs and
the cannabs would make it feel lethargic, this gummy make
it feel lethargic. So it was true to what the
plant would deliver in a combustion experience. We thought we
had something really special. So we we decided to go
through the process of let's let's make this gummy right,
and so let's figure out how to do it. And

(13:14):
what we're really doing is we're creating gummies that are
flavored by the terpenes and the cannabis, so there's this
water soluble terpenes. Terpenes are naturally occurring compounds that exist
in every plant. They give its color, they give it smell,
they give hops the flavor that the flavors and IPA, you.

Speaker 2 (13:29):
Gotta say it with that high pitch hops like super bad.
I heard they added more.

Speaker 4 (13:36):
Hops, right, But that's the magic of cannabis, right. So,
like for those who cannabis is a big part of
your life, you know what to expect. You can find
something that will help you do and be engaged, or
something that will make you laugh and lighthearted, or something
that will help you relax after a long day. And
so when we realized that the Azuoka technology could deliver that,
we thought that was a pretty unique concept. And then

(13:57):
we started thinking about you know, what we're working with
is a version where we're using flour. So we're using
whole cured flower, same thing you would smoke in our product,
which is super unique. Every other edible is made with
an oil, it's made with the hash, it's made with
dis lit, it's made with something that'sponded to a fat typically,
and so when you apply a Zuoka to flour, it
makes the terpenes water soluble. So when you think of

(14:18):
cannabis and what makes it special, terpenes are like a
steering wheel, right, So TAC's your gas pedal of how
are you gonna get? Yes?

Speaker 3 (14:25):
Can I get another? So unfortunately it is going to
be service at Okay, cool, I'll get it. They were
bringing up. Yeah, continue on.

Speaker 4 (14:33):
We could just walk up to the bar.

Speaker 3 (14:34):
Yeah we can't water continue.

Speaker 4 (14:36):
Right, So what the basic the the reason we think
this is such a cool product is that it makes
it go. It allows someone to experience cannabis like they
would have combusted it if they were eating it. And
that's a really unique thing and that's something that most
edibles can deliver.

Speaker 2 (14:49):
And you know, I think one of those things that
that that also appeals to the aficionadas and the cannabis
brands are the cannabis world because obviously.

Speaker 3 (14:59):
In a we are now kind of in that.

Speaker 2 (15:03):
I guess age of cannabis in Colorado, where there are
a litany of experienced consumers where oftentimes they're making or
growing their whether it's growing their own flower, making their
own concentrates. But the edible market is one that remains
kind of in the we're not doing it at home as.

Speaker 3 (15:23):
Much as the other one.

Speaker 2 (15:24):
So you'll have created a concept where not only is
it approachable for those that are purists at heart or
want to make sure they kind of get not necessarily
a hashy taste, because that oftentimes assimilates with like an
after burn flavor, but it's the oh you're mind as
you're eating it.

Speaker 4 (15:42):
These bodies taste like. These things taste like you're if
you've ever been lucky enough to be in a garden
on harvest day and there's this magical amount of smell
of terpens in the air.

Speaker 3 (15:52):
A euphoric theater right to me, that's.

Speaker 4 (15:54):
What these gummies tastes like. These gummies taste like. You know,
if you're a fan of beer, I'm a huge beer fan.
I love IPAs.

Speaker 3 (16:00):
Everyone knows that I love beer.

Speaker 4 (16:01):
Right yeah, yeah, I learned that today loves well wine.
Same thing. There's flavors in wine, but I'm a huge
beer fan and I pas are driven by these really
kind of unique flavors, and and you source them out.
You might like Citra hops or you might different hops,
and you chase those flavors. Those flavors are driven by
the turpines. So like, I think it's a really cool
thing to be able to experience cannabis in that same

(16:22):
way where you really get to go and appreciate. We've
got gummies that taste like a tropical papaya, I pa.
We've got a gummy that tastes like you siphoned diesel
out of a car. Right, that's a wildly different flavor.
But these are flavors that are found in cannabis, and
so what our product does allows that that flavor to
shine through, but also the effect that's accompanying it. And
then we're actually launched this week a second version which

(16:44):
is the exact same everything else, but it's got natural
fruit pure in it.

Speaker 2 (16:47):
So that's what everybody wants, skin flake strawberry. What I
was thinking, like, y'all are literally adding like the like
the desserts you feel from a net, you know, scratched
the table when they dry out an orange rind.

Speaker 3 (17:04):
You get that through the chocolate.

Speaker 2 (17:06):
Y'all are now creating that concept where it's the same
for edibles without this bullshit.

Speaker 3 (17:13):
Oh Hawaiian Punch.

Speaker 4 (17:15):
No Red number five nothing fake. You know. The best
compment we had we had a dispensary buyer who is
tasting him in there like this tastes like fruit leather
from the whole foods like it does. The only difference
is it's got fruit pure and then sometimes the oil
from the skin depending on what the fruit is, like
grapes have a lot of oil from the skin.

Speaker 3 (17:30):
But that's exactly it.

Speaker 2 (17:31):
That's why we call it the edible for the hostility
industry because it's the same folks that if you can discern.

Speaker 3 (17:37):
Or tell me is that the right word, Mariah.

Speaker 4 (17:40):
Right, if you're checked out.

Speaker 2 (17:41):
If you can distinguish between tastes and flavor profiles, you're
definitely gonna appreciate it. But at the same time, if
you're one of those cannabis folks that's like, no, I
want to taste it, I want to feel it, I
want to do all of the things in one bite.
You have those varieties that allow you to do the
whole kit and kaboodle.

Speaker 4 (17:58):
Yep, exactly right.

Speaker 2 (17:59):
And I think that's just it's a fairly novel concept
to where that's why it's very approachable. And we've heard
from chefs at cart Driver, we've heard from teams at Karne,
We've you know, had the same reactions from folks from
the Male High Asian Food Week where we did collabse
with restaurants that do spicier combinations.

Speaker 3 (18:19):
They were like, I loved the flavor profile, but.

Speaker 2 (18:22):
At the same time, it's like, how do we con
vent or at least like bring it to the attention
of the casual consumer or those that listen to this podcast,
that listen for us to talk shit about places like
my neighbor Felix, Like, we don't go eat shitty fucking tacosa.

Speaker 3 (18:39):
Yeah, we're not eating tacos at the bar we're at
today because we know better. But at the same time,
it's the same.

Speaker 2 (18:45):
Ethos, like if you go out of your way for
a good taco, why would you not go out of
your way for a good And it's not like you're
breaking the bank at the corner store.

Speaker 3 (18:55):
It's just go to the.

Speaker 2 (18:57):
Locations that have the product that you want. Don't just
be like, oh, well, I'm here.

Speaker 4 (19:03):
This is the Elx mediocrity.

Speaker 2 (19:05):
Yeah, and you know, Chris has said it seventy million
times about the Wannas. It's like the sugary exterior, the
chew is bad, Like it doesn't do it for those
that prioritize flavor and quality of you know, the effect,
like we like the same reason we look for a
quality wine.

Speaker 4 (19:23):
I'll make you now that for we, I make the
case that there's on every other shelfing dispensary there's an product,
there's an item, there's a line that's true the plant.
It's the greatest celebration of the plant. It's a seven
to ten percy pod half gram the bait that's someone's
buying sept for seventy five eighty bucks. It's great. Right
on that same shelf, there's four grams of dissolt bullshit

(19:44):
that tastes like blueberry.

Speaker 3 (19:46):
We've got to talk about which is.

Speaker 4 (19:47):
Fine because whatever, it's an accessible way to get into canvas.
That's fine. On the edible shelf, we're the only thing
that's true the plant. We're the only thing that's consistent
in how it affects you, and we're the only thing
that's consistent in how it tastes. And so you know,
I think when you think through that, there's always like
your there's an audience, and I have no issue with
sugar edibles. There should be there too, right, there's people.

Speaker 2 (20:04):
There's a time and a place, and there's an audience
for it, but for the audience that is already doing
this in every other capacity, Why aren't we.

Speaker 3 (20:14):
Now skimping in the cannabis space.

Speaker 4 (20:16):
And that's why, Well, it's not the same thing as
like you're enjoying a glass of wine. There's great and amazing,
well nuanced flavors that these cultivators took a lot of
time and energy to create, and that's what we're celebrating, Like,
that's the excite, that the excitement they've went through, and
they've gone through the work, and they've put in this
They put in many, many months of work to create
an amazing product that's full of terpenes and full of

(20:38):
cannabinoids and everything's well developed, and then they took the
time to cure it right and trim it right and
all these things. This product is able to celebrate that
in the same way that a great wine or cocktail would.

Speaker 2 (20:47):
Don't do the disservice of now we're gonna blend it
with fucking fruit blue raspberry, which is.

Speaker 4 (20:52):
Nic Yeah, yeah, there's no such thing as blue raspberry.

Speaker 3 (20:54):
Maryah was very excited when I was about to say
fruit punch. She was like, fuck yeah, I love fruit punch.

Speaker 4 (20:59):
I mean.

Speaker 3 (21:03):
Sorry, Maria.

Speaker 2 (21:05):
She was like, please don't miss her. I want to
make sure we convey that. Everyone's like, who the fuck
is Mariah?

Speaker 4 (21:11):
She's at the bar with us. He's like the behind
the don't pay attention to the person she is it.

Speaker 2 (21:17):
Yeah, you're exactly right. But at the same time, you know,
y'all have done the due diligence, and I was blessed
enough to join you on the early stages of navigating
these profiles because you and I have been friends for five, six,
seven years now, and this was literally fucking twelve months ago.

Speaker 3 (21:36):
We were sitting in a basement. It wasn't a rape den, a.

Speaker 4 (21:39):
Very nice basement.

Speaker 3 (21:40):
It was a very nice base.

Speaker 2 (21:41):
I mean like, I mean, yeah, that's that's consensual. They
had like pinball machines. It was awesome. They were filming
us in the sexiest way possible.

Speaker 3 (21:55):
My nips were out.

Speaker 2 (21:57):
But you have done every aspect of your dude diligence
to make sure that you convey the best of these brands,
but also to make sure that you cast these brands
not in aspersions but in the best line.

Speaker 4 (22:11):
No, that xis. You're exactly right. We we went through
and worked with a world class branding agency and said, look,
we want to create something where we're curating the work
of others, right, we want to give that credit. That's
not our work. We want to find a different way
to present that. And so I love that you remember that.
That was quite the experience, Like that was the first
we had on I mean, and we spoke, We saw
people of all ages, we saw people of all cannabis used.

(22:33):
It was like it was it was a proper focus group.

Speaker 2 (22:36):
No, it was a wonderful focus group. And I think
I was in like group three of four. So it
was like the true gang bang. It was like twenty
two year old kid frat guys from fucking Boulder, and
then there were some sixty year old blue hairs. I mean,
I'm sitting there in the middle. I'm like focus using
the casual.

Speaker 4 (22:52):
See I'm not a stick to yeld but I don't
even have it here.

Speaker 3 (22:54):
Oh yeah, Mariah's now calling John Old.

Speaker 2 (22:57):
But at the same time, no, y'all have done your
due diligence in all capacities. And so now the product
has come to market and as we started to kind
of do this like promo to like showcase, y'all's products,
whether it's you know, obviously award winning in New Jersey
as y'all kind of taken that market by stranglehold, but
in Colorado, a much more saturated market, we would love

(23:21):
to have a more educated buyer. And not only you know,
we've said go out of your way to buy it,
but it's like when you see it, it's like why
should I try it? And these are all exemplary reasons.

Speaker 3 (23:33):
As to why.

Speaker 2 (23:34):
Now, let's talk a little bit about the what and
the who. Sure, so, who are we partnering with? Because
as much as we want to talk about oh we're
using you know, bits of flour and the edible, we're
sourcing it and letting the brand showcase their strains and
their flavor profile, it's important we make sure you're not
just fucking buying it from the basic you know, betty
of the bottom.

Speaker 4 (23:55):
No, like listen, sorry, this is my favorite part of
the whole process, in our process, from every partner we
work with. It starts with a garden tour. We go
in and we want to see the production. We walk
with us, the team, and we want to see how
happy the people are. How's how's the bush look?

Speaker 3 (24:09):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (24:10):
Is it happy?

Speaker 3 (24:10):
That's the first thing I look for on porn hub.

Speaker 4 (24:15):
That's I wonder how how common that searches is The
first is it?

Speaker 3 (24:19):
Is it? Yeah?

Speaker 4 (24:20):
Like kitchen, and then step brother and then like.

Speaker 2 (24:24):
Well the Game of Thrones really threw off the algorithm
about five six years ago.

Speaker 4 (24:30):
Interesting what so, so we walk the garden and we
really do have the conversation of what are you excited about?
So in Colorado, we're super pumped. We work with Boulder Built,
we work with high Fuel, we work with a Gozy.
We're doing our first run of Indico right now, and
we've got a bunch of other gardens that are in
the queue. I think that the word is starting to
get out from a cultivation standpoint, and we've got stores

(24:52):
that have the audience of people who really love weed, right,
who loves this product? People who love weed love this product.
And that has drawn the attention some great cultivators. And
it's been a super cool product process to have people
that I respect that I've seen for years. You know,
local love is that after that, Elias does amazing work.
He's a great person and he's really good at what

(25:13):
he does, and he gives a shit, right, And that's
the that's the case.

Speaker 2 (25:16):
We can like highlight that. It's not like we've talked
about the race to the bottom of the msas. It's like, nah,
these have been steadfast.

Speaker 4 (25:23):
Well. Mike over at High Fuel, this dude gives a
ship and when you walk the garden with him, you
see this sparkle in his eye. This isn't about selling
a pound a weed. This is about what he's passionate about.
So that's what we look for. And I think that
our first four partners in Colorado Indico, Boulder Built, High Fuel, Agosi,
next up's local Love. We've got many more that we're
talking to and we're super excited about that. I think

(25:44):
it's like, what we've learned is that we made this
gummy from Boulderbuilt. It is mister nasty. So if you
ever smoked mister nasty, it's gas gas gas gas strain.
The gummy tastes like you siphon diesel out of a car,
but like in a good way.

Speaker 3 (25:56):
And those that know.

Speaker 2 (25:58):
No right, someone be like, that's not what I'm looking
and that's totally understandable.

Speaker 3 (26:02):
You have things on the other side of the variant.

Speaker 4 (26:04):
It came to my sample que and I was like,
I don't fucking know about this one, because there's gonna
be people who will be I feel like we should
have like a double diamond mark. This is an expert
level with us that would that would them once we
realized that, I took that around, that's the one I've
shared with a bunch of cultivators and it got all
their dick card and they were like, these are the
other crazy flavors I have. I mean, I had a
group give me one that smells like blue cheese. I

(26:26):
can't wait to try that. I mean, I think it's
gonna be fantastic.

Speaker 3 (26:28):
Maybe you know what that would pair with a little
buffalo chicken.

Speaker 4 (26:31):
Buffalo chicken be excellent with that, you know in Jersey.
We so we just launched in Jersey. We've got great
partners in Jersey. We're working with a group called Hamilton Farms.
They just won two Cannabis Cups Best Sativa in Best
Indica and it was a really cool competition actually judged
by Gonngie's. So it was like, exactly right, we're working
with Garden Greens, Who's who's the dominant force that is

(26:53):
known for quality for a long time in that world.
Work with illicit and so same thing we did this
run of from Hamilton. I think I might got you
what it was a muscadine.

Speaker 3 (27:01):
Oh dude, that one. Yeah, it tastes like.

Speaker 4 (27:04):
You know, and like I describe it as when you
open a great bottle of old wine and there's that
funky mushroom dirt flavor. It had it and it was
like the strongest part. And so what's been so cool
with these gummies is when you start to find those
really spectacular strains, right, and we've seen fruit come through too.
I've got a Keanu Reeves here on the table tastes
like papaya.

Speaker 3 (27:23):
I p a I mean, that's exactly it.

Speaker 4 (27:26):
And so it's like showcasing the flavors of the weed,
which is so.

Speaker 2 (27:28):
Cool and mine would a weed ran not want to
be a part of that. They're like, oh, now my
flavor is an edible form without it being diluted or
you know, like.

Speaker 4 (27:37):
Oh, it showcases what they're doing to a much different audience.
And listen, I still smoke a lot of weed. You
can't always smoke weed when I'm here on airplane, or
you gotta go to a parent teacher conference or you're
you know, you gotta like, you gotta judgmental roommate. Any
of these things require discretion.

Speaker 3 (27:51):
I mean, yeah, we'll call it discretion. I have zero
of that.

Speaker 4 (27:55):
Par You got a lot of kids. We haven't been
their conferences yet. You haven't.

Speaker 2 (27:58):
I've been talking about having sex with food for twenty
fucking minutes, John. But at the same time, what I
did do is I flew with your edibles up to Connecticut,
not two three weeks ago, sat shared them with not
only friends of mine that used to be in the game,
they're now teachers in Connecticut.

Speaker 3 (28:15):
But we paired it.

Speaker 2 (28:16):
With a wonderful little food tour of Oh I need
the right mindset and kind of like not necessarily xanax
belly where you don't know, you're not hungry, but it kind.

Speaker 3 (28:27):
Of like spurs that activity.

Speaker 2 (28:30):
And it was the exact thing you wanted to, Oh,
let's do this and then do dim sum.

Speaker 3 (28:36):
Let's do this and then do a food tour. It's
let's eat this ten twenty milligrams, not be like drooling
on ourselves.

Speaker 2 (28:44):
Let's order a pizza and still be able to carry
casual conversation. So the approachability is one hundred percent there
and then obviously y'all have done the due diligence and
the hard work to make sure that the brands and
the growers hard work has not been lost on the consumer.

Speaker 3 (29:03):
Let's talk a little bit about the consumer.

Speaker 2 (29:05):
Okay, so we've been sharing this, we've been doing giveaways
where we pair it with food because for that same
mindset that we talked about earlier.

Speaker 3 (29:15):
But let's talk a lot. Let's debunk some myths.

Speaker 2 (29:18):
Okay, what's the average cost at a Colorado dispensary?

Speaker 4 (29:22):
Twenty four hundred and thirty dollars? Like that it's expensive. Jesus, No,
I just don't know. It's it's I mean, we're we're
priced like a premium medible. So we're in the twenty
to thirty dollars range, depending on what part of the state.
I think the highest that I saw them last year
last winter in Aspen, and tell you're right, I think
they were as high as forty. But most of the
places in Denver City, most place in Denver you're seeing,

(29:43):
I mean, I'll tell you Crystal Leeds has them for
eighteen Yeah, I mean Oasis has.

Speaker 2 (29:48):
Them for twenty three, right, or twenty three dollars twenty
six out the door.

Speaker 3 (29:52):
You gotta get bring cash.

Speaker 2 (29:53):
Bring cash, or you're paying the three dollars service fee
at the ATM by the exit door, which I do
because I grab a cartridge and your edibles. But they
are unbelievably approachable. Like my parents, my in laws, this
is what they're like.

Speaker 4 (30:07):
We want to be accessible. I mean, the idea is
that I think this product brings the magic of cannabis
to a much wider audience, right Like it's it's like
I said, you might be going to a parent teacher conference,
or you might not know how to smoke cannabis, or
you might only have This allows you to get those
strange specific effects, comes on fast and then goes away.
And that's the other thing that I think is so cool,
the session ability of these. This is not an all

(30:27):
date edible journey. This isn't like I'm going to be
fucked up forever. If you want to be fucked up forever,
you have to keep eating them, which like is the
same thing you would do your problem. It is just
like if you were smoking, If you were smoking a
joint and you want to be high forever, you would
continue to smoke joints.

Speaker 3 (30:41):
That's exactly it and you know this better than most.

Speaker 2 (30:44):
But that's I'm the vapepin guy though, because like I'm
at a restaurant or I'm in an uber and sometimes
I get yelled at because.

Speaker 3 (30:52):
We try to ghost it. But you can ghost it in.

Speaker 2 (30:54):
An airport bath I've been going This edible is the
same cut of the rug, yes to where it's like, oh,
I want that efficacy, I want that flavor profile and
I don't want to diminish, but I don't need it
for seven hours.

Speaker 3 (31:09):
I do have a double dip.

Speaker 4 (31:10):
I'm not signed up forever. Yeah, that listen. I used
to always hit my bait pin in the airplane bathroom
and I always like this is fucking stupid. At some
point some story about it, and like to people like
that guy's an idiot. Now I don't. Now I eat
a gummy and I don't have to go to the bathroom.
I just eat him at my trade table and no
one knows where cares. And so that's a great moment
where I think this, this product applies to a lot

(31:31):
of people, and that's so. Yeah. Sometimes you can't be
fucking smoking a joint you've done.

Speaker 2 (31:37):
I mean you can't, you can't, but you shout out
to CRUs that's the only place you can smoke.

Speaker 3 (31:42):
And we love Aaron and Crystal and the team over there.

Speaker 4 (31:45):
We need more serious in the world. We need to
be able to like that's.

Speaker 3 (31:47):
Yes, right, and we love Dwayne and Tetra as well.
We need more.

Speaker 4 (31:52):
We need more Dwaynes in the world is what we need. God,
but we need a lot of Dwayne.

Speaker 2 (31:56):
Love them as a human, yeah, and then obviously as
a killer consot.

Speaker 3 (32:00):
But that's how.

Speaker 4 (32:00):
Biggest arms are that dudes like NonStop push ups. He's
got to be the most muscular man I think I've
met in a long time. He is like the most
He's just constantly working out.

Speaker 3 (32:08):
I think he may be. I mean I've been working
out myself.

Speaker 4 (32:12):
Yes, I guess you know.

Speaker 2 (32:14):
Nine ounce curls here at the bar today, shout out
to the white wine from Carboy. But at the same time,
you're exactly right. I think we've kind of dispelled some
of those who created an educational package for those to
kind of build off of, and we want everyone to
just go try him out if you don't win the giveaway.
We do them once every two or three weeks with

(32:35):
Flower Unit, and we're pairing them with restaurants that we
think you will appreciate, because not only do we give
the staff some of the equipment, but at the same time,
we want them to be able to enjoy it. It's like,
eat this edible, go eat three or four different kinds
of fucking steak, do a martini bar, and it's not

(32:57):
gonna have you to the point where you're like, oh God,
I'm well over my skis. You'll have the approachability aspect
dialed in. But for those that are looking to get schnockered,
as we like to use that phrase, you have that
ability eat to eat three and then go eat.

Speaker 3 (33:13):
Five fucking pizzas.

Speaker 2 (33:14):
Shout out to our boy, Bill Coleman and Bridgeport and Connecticut.

Speaker 3 (33:19):
Let's talk a little bit. It's been a while.

Speaker 4 (33:22):
It's been too long, man, it's been way too long.

Speaker 2 (33:25):
And so I you know, I can't tell you how
much I appreciate you taking the time to just sit
down and chat a little bit about the business. But
also it means that we've left a lot untalked about,
and so I think we would be remiss if we
didn't kind of pick your brain.

Speaker 3 (33:39):
You know, you're.

Speaker 2 (33:39):
A you've been in Colorado as long as I can remember.
But you've also been in big cities across the country
and you're frequenting those all the time. So I think
folks would value your opinion on some other concepts as well.
Before we dive into the personal questions, tell people quickly,
what are your socials best ways to find the display

(34:00):
that are closest to them?

Speaker 3 (34:02):
And your website.

Speaker 4 (34:03):
Flower Union Goods is the instagram. I believe that's consistent
across all the socials.

Speaker 3 (34:08):
Yeah, mess the note we've literally tagged.

Speaker 4 (34:10):
All like ye, I wuld appreciate that. Appreciate that. Flower
Union dot Co is the website, and we keep an
updated list of where we can be found in that space.

Speaker 1 (34:19):
You know.

Speaker 4 (34:19):
I was also gonna say I anybody wants to try
these if they don't win the giveaway, we do a
pretty cool pop up which is all about it's a
quick game where people get to experience terps. All right,
so terps, you get to smell the terps, you get
to do this in the pop up and you get
to win free gummies. And we're really a big fans
because I feel like this is a unique product that
people need to experience and once you experience this and

(34:40):
you understand how different this is from a normal edible.
You really understand. So paid into our socials. We do
pop ups every week. We're doing three or four different
stores both Jersey and Colorado, and want to give away
a lot of free gummis. We want people to try these,
not free, we want people to sample them. It's nothing
is free. Nothing is free, nothing's ever free.

Speaker 3 (34:59):
Nothing is free.

Speaker 4 (35:00):
A bid someone had a free fucking gummy that would
be like the end of the world.

Speaker 2 (35:03):
Dude, you want to talking about You had to have
the lawyers and the health.

Speaker 4 (35:06):
And the m oh yeah, nothing free at all. Nothing
nothing free, nothing in this world is okay, Well, no,
you can get a free alcohol sample. You could go
to any fucking liquor like big liquor store right now,
and you can walk down and someone hand you a
shot at tequila without a doubt.

Speaker 3 (35:21):
Okay, well fine, we're gonna leave with that is our
first question.

Speaker 2 (35:23):
I'm gonna ask you to take off the work at
what's your favorite city where you can consume and eat
that is not in Colorado.

Speaker 4 (35:31):
Where you can consume it like cannabis and food. Oh,
I mean New York is obviously the win, But I'm
a huge New Jersey fan. Jersey spectacular, hebuken. Are you
talking like what would I just discovered? Well, so I
used to be like white trash Jersey, but what I
just discovered was Jersey City. Give it the Jersey Jersey
secret place. It's the greatest place.

Speaker 2 (35:49):
It's like not that secret, it's literally there's a walk
to taxi.

Speaker 4 (35:53):
To go to the New York. New York's the best
answer for that question, don't It's an easy answer to
that's best answer.

Speaker 3 (36:00):
What's your favorite?

Speaker 2 (36:01):
Okay, So for those that don't know, John has a
litany of history working in the hospitality industry from Vegas
to god knows wherever.

Speaker 3 (36:09):
He's traveled to fucking Asia.

Speaker 2 (36:11):
He's traveled all over the globe, not only for food,
but just for throwing parties and raging with DJs and bands.
What's your favorite bespoke city or town to eat across
the globe?

Speaker 4 (36:26):
The favorite bespoke city or town to eat?

Speaker 3 (36:29):
Yeah, it's like talking about it.

Speaker 4 (36:36):
Oh, I know, Gualahara. I like it. Gwalahar is the
coolest city on fucking Earth. So I had this like
I gotta go when I was super young, early in
the career. I was like the alcohol buyer for the
casino I was at, and I gotta go in this
magical trip to Gualajara to go like tour the tequila places.
But we ate around the city and it was fucking amazing,

(36:58):
Like that is the coolest city on earth.

Speaker 2 (37:00):
I mean, Mexico has been popping off left and fucking right,
and then next thing, you know, all of Latin America
is kind of like using this we call it.

Speaker 3 (37:11):
Folks hate when we.

Speaker 2 (37:12):
Say fusion, but like collaborative flavors or culturally inspired ingredients
to where Latin food just fucked so hard, not only
on its own right, but even when paired with everything
from Japanese, Chinese, Italian, whatever culture may be. I gotta
do the guadaljaa vibe. The Mexico City a wahaka scene

(37:36):
is also second.

Speaker 4 (37:37):
To non Mexico sees. Like on my list, I've not
been to Mexico City's next to my list. I want
to go there.

Speaker 3 (37:41):
You want to team attack it. Mariah's over, You're like,
why don't we why.

Speaker 4 (37:45):
This interview in Mexico City.

Speaker 3 (37:50):
Okay, yeah, we're all gonna go.

Speaker 4 (37:51):
Second place on that. You know, the coolest place I've
ever eaten. Like a place is the Ladies Market in
Hong Kong. Have you ever been to Hong Kong?

Speaker 3 (37:58):
No, I haven't they more they.

Speaker 4 (38:00):
Have these things called night markets. Now, ladies markets sounds
like a different right.

Speaker 3 (38:02):
Now that I know the night markets of like MANGGKK.

Speaker 4 (38:07):
Yeah. Yeah, So Hong Kong's like like a proper Asian city.
It's got the night markets. The Ladies Market had like
a row of like everybody had different buckets of uh
sea animals that they were preparing in whatever their way was.
So you could go down the row and have like
octopus on a stick and like what all this? Yeah,
it's fantastic. Oh that was the best experience ever.

Speaker 3 (38:28):
That was awesome. What's the strain your highest on right now?

Speaker 4 (38:31):
Right now? My favorite strain will to eat or to smoke?

Speaker 3 (38:35):
Let's do smoke? Since anyone we glazed the hair.

Speaker 4 (38:38):
So I bought last week, I bought some Randy Watson
number five from seven to ten deliflower. This fucking killer.
It was like I was, honestly, I was so excited
about how good this flower was. It was probably the
best flat I've had in called out on a long time. Really, Yeah, yeah, fuck,
it really spectacular. I've been lucky. I've been I've had
some really great stuff lately, and uh, it was the
cure was perfect. It was one of those that like,

(39:00):
it's so funny because Colorado is still so stuck on
this potency bullshit and one of the things about crazy, Well,
so there's the problem, you know, listen, I come from cultivation.
The longer you cure, the more dry that product is,
the higher the potency. So these ridiculous conversations we have
the store level about high potency result in shitty wheat.
And this was a low tester. I think it was

(39:21):
like a seventeen percent tester, and the terps were spectacular. Nice,
that guy's having fun.

Speaker 3 (39:28):
That's mine. That's awesome. That kid is awesome. I like
that love.

Speaker 4 (39:36):
Right, bring well hang with us. Yeah no, but like
that was spectacular. That flower was spectacular. That was the
most tasty thing I've had recently. Think it was a killer.

Speaker 2 (39:44):
All Right, So I know you got kids, you got wifey,
you got a real life.

Speaker 3 (39:51):
Let's pretend like you had a minute to get away.
That's your date night spot.

Speaker 4 (39:56):
My date night spot's always red Rocks. Yeah, I mean,
we're so lucky to be here.

Speaker 3 (40:02):
I mean I almost thinking food, Mariah, I mean food.

Speaker 4 (40:04):
Too, Like, listen, I always you're not eating food at No,
you're not. You're like, but that's like, that's if you
got a life that doesn't have a lot of free time.
That's always my go to through these days. When the
cats away, We're gonna because it's like, we're so lucky
we live next to one of the greatest places on
earth to see something.

Speaker 3 (40:21):
I mean, you're literally gonna.

Speaker 4 (40:22):
I don't give a fuck how good. I love restaurants,
don't There's no restaurant in here that's the greatest on earth.
Musical experience transformative.

Speaker 3 (40:30):
I mean, everybody knows mine.

Speaker 2 (40:31):
For date night, it's probably mescal Area's Wind.

Speaker 3 (40:37):
Yeah. I love hop Alley as well, but it just
kind of varies. But you're exactly right.

Speaker 4 (40:45):
So I have been eating gummies the whole time, so
now you've been doing so slightly confused.

Speaker 3 (40:49):
I'm so proud of I'm so proud of you. And
those things.

Speaker 2 (40:53):
They pack a punch and they hit you in a
rapid speed, like fifteen minutes, which is oftentimes been one
of the reasons folks are concerned about edibles. Let's say,
if you're going to treat yourself to a meal on
the company card, where are you taking yourself?

Speaker 4 (41:09):
If I'm going to treat myself to a meal on
the company card, it's all okay. I think food is
like whole experience spend. It was a nice day like this,
I would want some like oysters on a patio would
be spectacular, it'd be good, you know, if.

Speaker 2 (41:21):
It's traveling Mercies out there and Aurora.

Speaker 4 (41:25):
Over I live in the Burbs, I live. I love
going down to Lafayette. It's got some really cool ship along.
It's like little main Street.

Speaker 3 (41:32):
Like little local Lafayette. Have you been to the farmers
market up there?

Speaker 4 (41:37):
The farmers go there all the time, so it's.

Speaker 3 (41:39):
New, right, this is our first or second.

Speaker 4 (41:42):
Going for a couple of years. Okay, they do it,
but yeah, I love the Farmer's Market thirteen. Some of
the best beer in the state over there, I'll take
your word for it. Right, And then there's a uh,
come with a pizza ghostbox Pizza.

Speaker 2 (41:54):
Rams. No, you're exactly right. And Lafayette's got a lot
of fucking vibes and it's kind of right there on
the cusp. I forget what burb you're in, because your
old office was out there in Aurora, so I was
thinking Stanley, but up there, like it's a hoot and
a holler as well. You're not wrong, all right. So
these are the last two questions. We probably asked them

(42:14):
to you in the past. But my mind is like
fucking porous at best.

Speaker 4 (42:21):

Speaker 4 (42:26):
Long term memory.

Speaker 2 (42:27):

want to visit that you hadn't hit before?

Speaker 4 (42:36):
Somewhere? I want to visit the Costa Rica. I've never
been to Costa Rica.

Speaker 3 (42:39):
For what reason.

Speaker 4 (42:40):
I feel like it's just very similar, Like I want
to go surf and eat and get high and just that.
I think the vibes would be very relaxing.

Speaker 3 (42:46):
Are you worried that's gotten too westernized?

Speaker 4 (42:49):
I have never considered that. Of all the things that
I thought about today, I never worried about whether Costa
Rica was westernized.

Speaker 2 (42:54):
You have too, some motherfucker. No, I'm just kidding. That's
a great one. And also on my short list as well.
The lady friend she's been and I have not.

Speaker 4 (43:05):
Friends easy trip like It's like, not like this monumental
trip is an easy trip, agreed. Most of my trips
are always the sky places, and so like, I don't

yelling at us for the rest of the day is Mariah.

Speaker 5 (43:35):

Speaker 2 (43:37):
She works with the team and different capacities. You can
hear happy hours starting to pick up pace down here
in gov Parks slash cap Hill area. So we're gonna
pick a couple. Uh, we're gonna pick your brain on
a couple of spots. What's your happy hour?

Speaker 5 (44:25):
That's going to be up to him, isn't it. But
I can tell you he's gonna definitely choose illegal pizza.

Speaker 3 (44:30):
That's fair.

Speaker 5 (44:31):
And I'm not saying it's that I would choose him,
saying it's what he is choosing tonight.

Speaker 3 (44:36):
That's so fair. Yeah, that's apropet. That's apropet. Okay.

Speaker 2 (44:40):
Last question, if you had to pick an edible, smokable
or digestible, what's your mode of cannabis consumption?

Speaker 3 (44:50):
Smoking? For sure? Smoking. I'm old school, yeah, and you've been.
Are you a Colorado tried and true? You have a
brand that you love.

Speaker 5 (45:00):
Any so hear me out. I like a light strain.
It's tough to find.

Speaker 2 (45:05):
So you like the dad weed of sorts John spoke
about earlier thirty It's the ever clear of the world,
and it's we've got to dismiss and debunk that morning.

Speaker 5 (45:16):
Way less than that. Yeah, just a super cheap, cheap date.
Hand rolled beautiful. That's that's what I'm going for.

Speaker 3 (45:24):

Speaker 5 (45:28):
If you can do it yourself, it's what are you talking?

Speaker 3 (45:31):

but it was just like that.

Speaker 4 (45:52):
It's all good. You were you, you were spot on,
you were exactly right.

Speaker 2 (45:54):
Very contrarian, but hey, we love it. Okay, she's now
mad at John. Yeah, you're gonna get us in Toronto.
She's gonna do like some like cgi work to make
us look not nearly as skinny as we are, and
all the photos she took. I can't wait to see him. Yeah,

a oh the Beth from Rick and Morty. Okay, she's

Speaker 2 (47:33):
I cannot tell you how much I appreciate you taking
the time to sit down and chat, dispel some of
the rumors, but also educate our listeners and our followers
on social media a little bit more about what it
is y'all are doing for y'all that are listening at home.

Speaker 3 (47:50):

Try it.

Speaker 2 (47:57):
It's fucking these edimals not only they ply friendly, but
they are in the same camp as those that go
out of their way to buy wine. We don't buy
it from just the random corner store like we do
with Jim Beemer Jack Daniels.

Speaker 3 (48:10):
We buy our wine specifically because.

Speaker 2 (48:12):
We know that it's a choice ingredient, whether it's natural,
whether we're looking for that summertime vibe, whether we're looking
for that full bodied red with apasta. There is an
edible that is in that same game, and Flower Union
has actually been going at that exact same profile. They
have flavor profiles, they have strained specific they have ups, downs,

(48:36):
in betweens, and everything in between.

Speaker 3 (48:39):
John, I can't thank you enough.

Speaker 4 (48:40):
Thanks for having me appreciate you.

Speaker 2 (48:42):
Until next episode, y'all, Stay high, stay hungry.

Speaker 3 (48:45):
Cheers
