(01:07:38):

(01:07:58):

I feel intent like I don't evenhave a soul. Yeah, I
(01:08:23):
don't want to be cold. Ifeel empty like I don't even have a
soul. So what's up? Fuckers? Make some noise. This is a
(01:08:48):
rappy vine. No mo fuck's inhere, like yo, I don't touches
and ship loosen fu check one, check one strength from underground two points.
(01:09:12):
Oh it's the podcast. I'm yourhost, d J Chris g Yeah,
episode four h nine. Yo um, once again shot to everybody out there,
shot of advertisers. Believe we're notnot that as everybody the podcast over
the feeling that you know, itwas a little bit of a little bit
(01:09:32):
of money, you know, sosome change and I don't have to ask
Stremes for it. If you havea DJ Chris G five eight five on
Twitter, Instagram, I d DChris three five let me know how you
feeling about the return of the podcast, And no better than do the podcast
(01:09:53):
with my own girl, Indigo Phoenix. You know, she agreed to come
on the first podcast for two thoushopefully a lot more. Let's get into
it straight from the underground. Twopoint oh the podcast has returned and it's
(01:10:15):
your boy, DJ Chris Geo.We don't get into a little a little
quick interview with my home girl andof course entrepreneur. I mean, I
really can't say enough about her thatwould really really cover what she's done.
I mean, she's an entrepreneur. She's a CEO of her own record league,
which she's a blogger. She's alsoa writer for films. She writes
(01:10:40):
her own rhyme, and she's anMBAC above Power two. So and this
female has put out multiple projects withinthe last like right now, we're in
May, right, yeah, it'slike almost six part projects have come out
in the last four or five months, and she's curating more projects as we
(01:11:05):
see. She's also using a coupleof I mean she does a lot.
I'm not sure how she even hastime to do all this stuff. It's
like, it's incredible. I'm talkingabout the incredible Indigo Phoenix. Thank you,
thank you. That's a beautiful introductionLimetime friends of the show. And
(01:11:28):
yo, who better to have onthe show to come through than in Indigo
Phoenix? Though, Andy, howyou doing. I'm good, I'm good.
I'm staying busy. And now Isee you ain't messing around this year,
playing around this year, playing aroundthis year. Man, it's personally
(01:11:54):
it's like you you, it's wholelike as you can see, I'm displaying
same respect. Yes, I'm playingrespect by wearing my rugged tryad shirt today.
Yes. Peace everybody in the chat. I see you're tapping in.
Yeah, shout out to everybody.I see people tapping share the chat.
If y'all can't share the chat, bring some more people in. But yeah,
(01:12:16):
I'm just I'm excited about this year. Like you said, I already
have six projects out so far.Um, I'm trying to do two a
month at this point. Who amonth? Yea who a month? Light
work? That's light work? Soso why is this glut? I'll just
(01:12:40):
say it glut a project. What'swhat's going on? I mean, because
I can. I mean, it'smy job, you know what I'm saying,
that's what I do. So youknow, when you think about it
in hindsight, it's like it's nota pressure or stretch me to do too.
You feel it, I'm saying,I feel like it's really easy.
(01:13:01):
So now that I'm kind of inthe stride of my work and I haven't
really planned it organized, that's whyyou see more of the pickup of what
I'm bringing to the table, thankyou, just because it just comes naturally
to me. It's easy. It'sno pressure. I'm not trying to compete
with nobody. It's just I'm tryingto make sure that all these producers who
(01:13:26):
I promise I would put out projectswith that I'm trying to get the projects
actually out for them, you know, and make sure that I keep my
word. That's basically, and outsideof a couple like maybe Griselda and a
couple other people, I've never seensomebody introduced so many producers into the game
that you right, it's like youwork with a multitude of producers. As
(01:13:49):
I've mentioned, it's like all they'reall new you find all this new talent
and you work with them and it'slike they've just come with a flavor for
you. I feel it's important tothe producers are like the most important thing.
I feel they're my mules, right, So I feel like the produces
(01:14:10):
need to be highlighted and it doesn'thave to be somebody popular. I feel
like a lot of people try toflock to rush to pay for working with
popular people, and I just likeworking with people who actually get my vibe,
who have my style, who complimentmy style. I don't really do
the cloud things, so that's whyI introduced so many because they haven't been
(01:14:31):
heard. So I would hope thatwants somebody hear me on their music that
they would go keep checking for them. So it's really when I work,
I really be wanting to highlight theproducers who were new and try to break
new producers into the industry so thatthey can, you know, pick up
some work work and start working withother people. So I just feel like
(01:14:53):
that's important. Peace everybody coming inyou feel. I mean, I feel
like a lot of people just tryto gravitate to us pop that I try
to make people pospulate. I thinkthat's the difference in me. I want
to see people when the underdog,I want them to be highlighted, and
that's why I gravitate to more unknownproducers than the known ones. Okay,
(01:15:14):
here, let let's start with alittle bit of history. For those out
there that don't go Indigo phenixes andwonder, you may have missed the last
couple of interviews I've done with her. You may have even just she may
have like gone beneath your radar tooas a listener. So let's introduce the
world to Indigo phenix Indian, howdid you really start in the business?
(01:15:35):
Um, it's crazy how I started. Initially, I started writing around two
thousand and I was just playing.Around two thousand and seven, I started
getting into the little more so louddot Com had like this battle rap website
and you would just be on thissite and it'd be thousands of people going
(01:15:58):
back and forth, and you wouldhave all production from top producers cool and
Dre and all these fake producers andreal quick, let me stop you,
real quick. For those that's justcoming in and you guys are new to
the internet, this is before mySpace. Okay, yes, before my
Space, before my Space three beforeFacebook for tik tok for all that crap.
(01:16:25):
Yeah it was. It was totallybefore all of that stuff. So
I really just got into that Iwas doing well on the site. Um
Lutaine had a competition and I wasselected top five by Riz out of thousands
of people. Look at that kindof made me like take stock and yo,
(01:16:45):
I need to really kind of keepdoing this, just like so good
for me. When along to makea song called ALA's Daughter, I met
up with this producer Na Ken,and now my Space comes into play.
I upload the track on my Space. Listen, a woman with the face
veil I lost daughter starts to gettinga bunch of yids. A bunch of
(01:17:09):
people come and checking. I checkmy inbox and I have an inbox from
Professor Griff. Professor Griff hits melike, yo, you spent like a
hardcore Brooklyn dude. I said, what I am from Brooklyn. Bet you
know what I'm saying. He waslike, I would love to meet you.
I think you're so though. Iwould love to take you to dinner.
So me and the producer with andI ham but to the Jamaican restaurant.
(01:17:32):
You know what I'm saying. Wechopped it up, and he was
just filling me in on stuff aboutthe industry, like how to proceed moving
as a righteous woman and you know, a woman you know, of a
particular mindset, how to watch outfor certain things in the industry. That
was pretty much it. But hewas just very encouraging. Later on,
(01:17:57):
probably like maybe so a year orso later, not too much later,
I started managing Jazzo, which mostpeople may't know. Jazzo is Jay Z's
mentor, right, So I thinkI was managing Jazz And you know,
at that time, him and Jayweren't at the best odds with each other,
so it was it wasn't hard managinghim, but it was just a
(01:18:17):
lot of people was in their businesslike they knew jay Z for real,
Like you know, y'all don't knowthis man and this man relationship. I
knew that they would round up speaking. So that's why a lot of times
I would hit Glad and like Dad, certain interviews you would have or have
to call him and be like, like I didn't want Jazz talking on that,
like take that off to feel whatI'm saying, because I knew that
(01:18:40):
they would be talking soon. Becausesome people were reaching to me then for
them to connect. So I waslike, let's fall back because I knew
that despite what was going on,Jazz really loved and cared for Jay.
It was just people go through thosetype of things. And my conversations with
him, like and Jazz became reallygood friends. Like he would come to
(01:19:01):
my crib. We'd be on thephone two three hours just laughing, like
Jazz is a really cool person, great person to manage it. So I've
learned a lot of stuff through Jazz. So getting even getting into the film,
I was taking Jazz to a magazinephoto shooting. That's how I got
into the film industry. I metsome film people. I was actually talking
(01:19:21):
with um like some of Beanie Seagullspeople, so I hit they wanted a
million Sparks and a couple of themMinister of Black Horror film. So I
add made sure to add Jazz.If you add Jazz, I asked Amilio.
So I was kind of in talkedlike that. So everything through Jazz
kind of just sparked kind of alittle plug in me to keep moving.
(01:19:45):
I started a podcast called Urban SocietyRadio. I still wasn't rapping then,
and I was just doing the podcasting. Then I went on to work for
Damian Hall's radio show for a while, helping with them with guests, and
then I got into the blogging. So over the course of that time,
(01:20:06):
I fell back because I was toldthat my conscious drafts, my righteous rafts,
weren't appreciated. I didn't have thelook like I didn't look good enough
to be rapping, like I didn'tfit the bill for what a female rapper
should look like. So I stopped, and I just came back in twenty
(01:20:26):
nineteen, and I haven't stopped sincethen. And that's why I hadn't stopped,
because I was told to stop beforeand I should have never really listened
to down. I shouldn't have stopped. Basically, you feel me? Okay?
Once again for those that's brand newto the internet and y'all just seeing
this now, this is before Spotify, before the SoundCloud, all this other
(01:20:47):
stuff. This has been record labelwas pretty much control what was coming out
more or less, right, youknow, and people were still trying to
get signed and stuff, and theywere basing it basically on you know,
your look, your appeal or whateveryou know, or your rhyme style.
I wasn't I wasn't talking that trashyrap, so it wasn't to their liking
(01:21:12):
to be talking about uplifting the blackcommunity or positivity, like they didn't want
to hear that. I was heavilyinfluenced by like the Justice League. So
the Justice League is actually what influencedme to start the podcast. So initially
when I started the podcast, Iwas talking to Legacy Lexter, Edgar Alan
Flo, Caesar Commanche like, Sothose were the people who I was kind
(01:21:34):
of gravitating to and chopping it upwith, and they came on the podcast
and I was a big fan oftheirs, and that pushed me back into
maybe you should get back into yourwriting or doing your music and stuff.
And what's crazier is even like I'mblogging for weekly rap guys, and I'm
(01:21:55):
gonna put it out there because Ifeel like it has to be put out
there. I feel like it's someculture voters stuff. Right, Um,
I'm writing for a blog. I'mwriting for this blog for years, no
pay. I'm bringing pretty much likeI did with Um Damien Hall's Radio.
So I'm bringing Um Prince, PaulBahama, Dia, Diamond d Lord for
(01:22:21):
Nance, I'm bringing all of thesepeople to your fold. I'm changing the
structure and helping you structure your site. I'm bringing the producer's spotlight. I'm
bringing interviews. I'm bringing editorials. You had none of that before me.
I'm carrying the site. I'm doingthe bulk of the articles weekly. I'm
(01:22:45):
I'm blogging from the hospital getting ablood transfusion. I'm blogging from the hospital.
You feel so what I'm saying,I'm carrying the site. Point in
case, let's partner up because I'mbringing all this stuff. I busch the
bands to the table. I broughta couple of other writers to the table,
and you don't want to partner withme. And this is these are
the plights and things that black womengo through and hipp and I'm bringing this
(01:23:13):
to the folds. I'm bringing thingsto fruition for you and offering my services.
And you don't feel like I'm goodenough. But then to boot you
review the whole set up now.But still I'm an artist. You don't
invite me to interview, you don'twrite about me. You feel what I'm
(01:23:33):
saying, So I feel like it'sjust a bunch of funny style culture vot
type of stuff to me and thenit totally wasn't appreciated. Trust a good
word was given. You feel whatI'm saying. You took every interview I
did and started doing a live interviewthing, using every interview that I did
(01:23:55):
to be interview by other people.Now. The only way one time it
stopped was the fact that Diamond dwas like, wait a minute, why
it's an Indigo interview? So Diamondis my homeboy, so of course he's
like, whoa wait, wait aminute, you feel me? So I
conducted that one interview on the strengththat Diamond would not do that interview because
(01:24:19):
that's my homeboy, Like, whyare you doing Indigo like that? And
not having her do people that sheinterviewed? She brought me to y'all.
You feel it what I'm saying. So I applaud Diamond for being like my
boy and like really speaking on mybehalf because dude's holy jacket. All my
interviews I did were like seventy freakinginterviews. It was Jacket each R J.
(01:24:45):
Payne master age, all these interviews, taking my interviews and not even
giving me the opportunity to interview. Are you giving it to somebody else?
I was I was so tight.Yeah, your hid. But but it
goes to say that contributing to thisindustry it comes with a lot of us
(01:25:06):
and downs, and being a woman, that was definitely going to be one
of the things, like how areyou supporting something so hard? And you
got hard for them, and Icome out and I don't get that same
support. So it goes to showI have to fight against a lot of
different odds just to be in theposition I'm in. So I have to
(01:25:28):
consistently pump out consent to be seenand be heard. I feel like that
has to be done until people hearme. I'm gonna keep keep on looking
shots off, like until you hearme. I'm gonna keep looking shots.
That's it. Okay, Now tobringing listen to the president. You said
you came back into the scene attwenty eighteen. Yeah, I said that
the year. I kind of noticedyou too. I've seen you coming out
(01:25:51):
on a lot of stuff and Iwas like, yo, who is Because
I was looking for good female artistsmyself, you know, being a DJ
myself. You know, the poolwas kind of thin. You know,
you had Rhapsody and a couple otherpeople that was that was doing um some
content type empop right, And Iwas looking for more people who like yourself
(01:26:12):
and I found you, and Istarted to notice you popping up with a
lot of the classic dudes, likeyou was with Dining d Savan Sadik,
And then you know, it's like, Yo, she's chilling with people I
actually like, I know them fromlike, they don't mess with black people.
So it's like, if they're supportedher, they must really like her.
(01:26:36):
She must her consent must be offthe chain. So I went back
to her. I went back toyour band camp and started checking you out,
and I was like, Yo,she got some fire. You get
some fire. So I started lookand then then me and you, I
don't know, Doro a mutual acquaintance. We met up. You know,
I think it was an artist. She's managing it. Yeah, it was
(01:26:58):
a dude. You was imagine thattime. And you know he hooked this
up and we started talking. Next. You know, me and you can't
cool, but you can't wifey likeyo, like my dude because he gets
it. You feel me like,I just appreciate the energy you come with
and like how genuine you are aboutthe music and how you pick it and
(01:27:25):
how you create your shows. Ithink that's important and not just love people
who just are organic to what theylike, opposed to going by what's trendy
and was popular, right right,And actually, like I said, you
you have a little you have ayou have a like a dark side to
you, that kind of life, that kind of like especially your gryme you
(01:27:45):
you have to you have a consciousstream about you. But there's times where
you can get a little grimy. You can get oh yeah, I'm the
queen of the grimy baby, yo. You said one line in a round
like we was like, I I'llget rid of you and get rid of
your whole bloodline. I was like, Dad, it's after your whole bloodline
(01:28:08):
and your next to Kenya. Iain't nobody hurt hurt like that's to see
Max liked he like every after everybody, even the unborn. That's some type
of time. I'm warning when youwant to wave more with me you been
(01:28:28):
for war, because it's gonna beunderwavering. And then there's also aspect about
your rhymes. I thought that nobodyelse was exploring the art came witchcraft type
things going back because a lot ofyour albums when I first heard them,
was was on that witchcraft like ourcame like doctor Strange type stuff, and
(01:28:49):
I was like, yo, sheshe, I mean, because it's what
I'm warning. Like literally people thinkingI'm bugging like I here right now and
I could grab this jar and putthis stuff in here that I have going
on, and I could come conjuringlike it's what I do. I'm a
(01:29:15):
uha, like this is what Ido. So when I'm speaking, I'm
speaking on things that I'm learning Africantraditions. I met my friend Tayreek thirty
years ago and he became a highpriest. So when we grew up,
we grew up in a Nwapian nation. You know, I was Muslim.
I converted to islamis seventeen, soimmediately when I turned eighteen, I moved
(01:29:40):
to the tabernacle and I was practicingSufism. So all I would do is
pray and meditate all day. Wehave a different level of discipline, you
feel what I'm saying. And Taikcame and put me onto African traditionalism from
him being a high priest. SoI've been happen into that. So a
lot of this stuff you hear inthe wraps are just little nuances of what
(01:30:04):
I'm taught or what I'm what I'mpracticing, or what I'm learning about our
ancestors, things that we should allknow, but we haven't been privy too,
because when we came here, thosetraditions were ripped away from us,
you feel. I mean, soit's not anything that's evil. It's more
(01:30:25):
so this is inherently should be innateto us, and it's actually something that
was stripped of us. All right. So yeah, when a lot of
people were thinking evil, I'm like, there's nothing evil in any lyrics.
Like you said, everything I speak, I talk righteous because I am refined.
But I also tapp into tradition becauseyou must happen to tradition. You
(01:30:46):
have to pay tribute to your ancestorsbecause they have been here protecting you.
And that's the thing that I'm newlycoming into around that time. Okay,
this is now the ultimate power inthe universe. Streaks from the Underground,
Yo Yo, this is DJ Rocketsand you're tuned in right now to the
(01:31:08):
Straight from the Underground two point onDaily Show with your man DJ Chris G
bringing you the illness of hip hop, that fresh flavor. Stay tuned,
keep it locked straight from the underground, and you bring you bring all these
(01:31:43):
aspects, your religious training, theBrew hot thing um, your actual Ryan
skeme, being Queen of the Grammy, you incorporate at all into your rhyme
schemes. So pretty much every albumwe get a little different aspect of to
go females, you know, everyalbum we get. And then, yo,
(01:32:03):
I have to speak about this becausethis is my favorite album that came
out last year, one of myfavorite albums of the dominique. Yo,
this album. When I say thisalbum is a classic in my eyes,
let's just say this and thego wentfrom Queen and the Grammy to the queen
of high society with this one.She actually took on the Dane Carol.
(01:32:28):
If you don't know what I'm talkingabout, if you ever watched The Dynasty
as a character that was portrayed byDiane Carroll, who's a classic actress back
in the day, one of thefirst female black actress that you actually saw
on TV, and that Dynasey wasbasically an all white show. I don't
even know why black people watched it, but it was just some old ghetto
type, white rich things. Grandmawould be watching it you know, and
(01:32:54):
I'm sitting right there like watching AllMy Children and all the other soap operas,
Like you just be there watching itand you just pick up on a
lot of stuff. Now, whenDynasty was out, I'm trying to give
people from the background, right theDynasty was out right now, when Dane
Carroll showed up, the whole dynamicbecause the whole host show change. She
(01:33:18):
brought blackness into it in high society. She just wanted to know normal chicks.
She just walked in and just commandedthe whole can't sleep for her clothes.
Her clothes had to have a separatesleep from her when she went to
the hold. So that's the currentlevel of boogie. Just straight ye drama
(01:33:44):
with he said, the drama withwith white folks. Yes, we just
loved it. We loved it allthe way to Dallas and Jr. And
all that stuff, like we justlet the drama falcon crest that this is.
This is during the late eighties,um, early eighties, late seventies
and stuff. Yo, believe itnot everybody's watching General Hospital, come on,
get out of here. Exactly. If you, as a child,
(01:34:05):
you was watching the Sola at LockColombo, I was watching all types of
stuff I wouldn't really watch. Yeah, you're this waiting for streaming people,
so this is like you was gluedto these shows that came on a late
night too, right, so,and to see a black character show up
in this show, it was likeit was game changing. And dang Carroll
(01:34:28):
was this character called Dominique Deverell, and she basically just took over the show
more or less. And Indigo decidedto take an album. I guess she
saw a rerun or something or youor is this is stuck with you?
It actually stuck. It always stuckwith me. But there's a page on
here that has sound bites from DianeCarol and I saw it and I knew
(01:34:53):
that I was going to do aproject like that. So what happened was
one day U, who was theproducer on the project, put up some
free beats. He was like, check these free beats. I got.
So I get really sick, andthat dad just felt really bad. I
had the worst headache and I getthe worst panic attacks, and I started
(01:35:15):
getting too sick. So the bestway into anybody who has panic attacks is
to focus in on something. SoI said, let me focus in on
these beats and that should take thestress away. I won't start panicking and
thinking, you know, about howI'm not feeling too well. And so
I started listening to the beats, and I started going back and forth to
(01:35:36):
the sound bite page, like thissound bite that song, this sound like
that song, this sound bite thatsong says. I was finding the sound
bites. I was sending them tohim, telling him which beats I wanted.
He went and clear to and said, yeah, you can't record to
that. And when he sent itto me, I recorded probably all of
(01:35:56):
the songs except for one. Thatsame night. Well, actually you took
out a Croisana where like I said, he became the high society female,
and you even spoke in a differentvoice more or less, and it was
just like, so do the flowwas there, the beach was there,
even even your character was was like, Yo, this is a whole change
(01:36:19):
for Indigo Man Slavery. It islike the entire album. I loved it.
In fact, I loved it somuch I had to call you that
night and be like, Yo,this is so yeah. You don't call
me yeah, you know, becauseit's like you had to embody the character.
I hate when people do concepts andthe need to still be talking about
killing people, Like what the hellhappened to the damn concept? You know,
(01:36:44):
like stick with the concept. SoDominique Devro like I think she's like
I told you, she influenced megrowing up as a child because she was
a business smogul. She was abusinesswoman. When I saw her as a
child, I said, I'm gonnabe a businesswoman. I'm not having children.
I'm gonna be rich like that.I'm gonna have a company and do
this and that. And that suckwith me. That honestly, you can
(01:37:06):
stick with me. I do havetwo degrees in business and that and that
goes to show wholeheartedly representation does matter, you know, in my insight,
because that really stuck with me,and most people may not know. I
am actually super bougye um I'm lookingat I'm looking at two bottles of champagne
(01:37:29):
right now from here, like freshbroke, Like I just like like really
nice things. I'm very particular aboutthings. I'm very defined. I love
going to museums, i love goingto wine tastings. I'm not to check
this at the club. I'm notyou know, the scardu be'st backup.
I'm not doing none of that.I'm actually I might talk a lot of
(01:37:50):
stuff on my rafts with I'm veryrefined and chilled until provoked. Let's put
it that way, right right. But that was that came out last year,
The Dynasty of Dominique Devereau. Yo. Look for that band camp Yo,
you guys. It's like four orfive tracks and pretty much she pretty
(01:38:14):
much bodies this whole album. Thankyou. Okay, then again, of
course let's see, you know,I also talk about all the other stuff
that she's been involved with. Um, the whole Hidden Blades thing. Oh
yeah, free Thinker clan. Let'stalk about Free Thinker clan. Yes,
what's going on? The Thinker ClanI was founded by my boy Ali Preme
(01:38:36):
aka um Apter over the Loud Icall him. But you know, people
be changing me means like Preme foundedit with his cousin Fire. Um,
you know what I mean, Premacool. The Dominique Devereau project brought him
to me because he was like,yo, who is that? But that's
(01:38:56):
absolutely now. I met him tothat project, so, um, we
like best do a project together. So he started working on a project which
is will come out of Antili It'scalled rod repertoire Um and we just started
building and just went to Yo.He was mixing something for me. He
said, this sounds like some FreeThinker Clan stuff right here. He I
(01:39:19):
was like, oh, I waslike, I would rock with you with
Free Thinker Clan. You know whatI'm saying, even though I have the
um Rugged triad, I'll walk withyou and help, you know, boost
that up. So I just linedthat up and Save Me is a UK
producer early twenties. Save Me isso fire and so when I heard his
(01:39:40):
greedy, grimy dark sound, hethat was definitely inspiration for my Queen of
the Grimy sound. So that wasone of the first joints. So we
put out then Free Thinker Clan wedid like a compilation. Let me tell
you how crazy we are a FreethinkerClan. At this point, Prime will
(01:40:00):
hit you. He talking to inthe morning. He's like, Yo,
can y'all get me versus in bytomorrow? I have appointment it like nine
in the morning for the doctor.Like this is my primary visit, sir,
So I'm gonna have to make this. But okay, let me see
what I could pull out. Youknow, I rather beat I write.
I reported, like seven in themorning, I don't go to sleep.
(01:40:23):
I reported, crap, it's calledall In and it's probably one of everybody's
favorites from Freethinker clan. I literallywrote that track and probably like fifteen minutes
and reported it without any sleep. And by the ninth time, by six
o'clock he wanted everything submitted. Byseven, he was like everything up to
put out that compilation. And atthat time a Freethinker clan, there's probably
(01:40:46):
like maybe ten of us or so, and that compilation got put out immediately.
Then I realized old it wasn't thetrack by one of the other producers,
So I ran, did that track? He could add that so we
wouldn't be missing any of our keyproducers. And that was true Cipher Jay's
dagger. So I rushed to recordthat, rushed to get Hilltop to mix
(01:41:10):
it, rush to get out andmix the other track. And that's how
he worked, like literally within twentyfour hours, he put out a compilation.
So I have to tribute and Iand I told m Premiss when um
I dropped the Billy project dedicated tocall Me Billy EP to um AP because
(01:41:31):
he kind of motivated my work effortand how to organize and get things done.
Showed me that it's possible to geta consistent, decent amount of things
done within a certain amount of timeby his fust, you know what I'm
saying. I would be on thephone with him when he recorded whole album.
Was like he did Good four.I was on the phone him the
whole time he did that album. He literally doesn't write, He goes to
(01:41:56):
the mic, he's sick. Hewho come back and laugh, We crack
a joke, he'd go back.I'd be like, next thing, He'd
be like, check band camp.I was like finished, He didn't finished
this song, he don't mix it. All of that at the same all
in the same time. You knowthat inspired me to see that work ethic
(01:42:18):
and we were having fun with this, just having fun, that's all I
said. It's not anything that ispressure of for us. It's organic,
and it's a matter of being organizedand being consistent, because you have to
be consistent in this era of hiphop right now, right right. I
(01:42:42):
didn't realize he was that. Imean, I've seen mad practice. I
didn't realize he's working on that kindof level. He works on that level.
He does not write. Literally,I've been on the phone with him.
He I've been on the phone withhim recording a couple of albums.
He goes to the Mighty Spigs,he does it, he uploads it and
he and I'm like, damn, that's amazing right right definitely, so you
(01:43:05):
know that definitely motivated me and inspiredme to see somebody working like that,
like, yeah, I can Ineed to get my stuff together and didn't
work like that. Actually you havebeen yeah now distant music now like I'm
heavier now, so it's like, okay, it's like you got all this
stuff right now on your band campright now, Like you got the oldne
(01:43:30):
site be finally came out. Yeah, right after sit it came out,
and then you came up with theConduring. You revamped the whole Condreing album.
Yeah, yes, the whole album. Physicals to be coming for that,
and then you came out with anotherreturn of Dominique Devoux right after that.
(01:43:54):
Um, and this Our Chives likecame a month after that, like
right, I like INDI dropping justwhen I thought it was over, then
came another free click free Thinker Clanjoint Glory produced by say An his Archives
Part two or Sight Beata. Thenhe came out with another drink with another
(01:44:18):
producer. I had Nigeria Yes,red Brick Dust Yes. Right after that,
and then another free click a freeThinker Clan joint hitting daggers. Then
you didn't you didn't even rest.In February Valentine, Yeah, that and
(01:44:45):
stream say they wanted to put outa project. They said, we got
something. I said, okay, let me hear it, because you know,
you know, I could be reallyI could be something about them beast,
but they were one point. Everythingsounded amazing. I got the artwork
done for it and just dropped it. And Valentine's Day, It's my birthday,
so I said, this is perfect. Thank you guys, like I
(01:45:08):
love the project, and I putit out. Yeah, that's you curated
right there, and you had thecurated. They had the curated themselves,
so that was even better for me. I didn't have to lift the fingerpick
a beat. They produced it andthey wrapped on it. And then he
came with a Yours Unruly joint.Yeah, yeah, you guys untruly,
Yes, Thatt woman, we mustcontribute to Earth the kid baby. Yeah,
(01:45:34):
that. I like that project too. That project was nice too,
like, um, yeah, theVillainous Vengeance. Yeah, I wanted to
do a project they reflected women whowere villains. I'm the type of person
and forgive me if it seems evil, like the Villains. I liked the
Villains, the Black Panther. Ilike Michael B. Jordan's character, You
(01:45:59):
doe it. I'm saying, Ialways like the Villains. It's sue me
because it's something that adopt the village, that said to it needed you turned
me to become this way. Iwouldn't need this way if it wasn't for
something that happened to me, right, And that's kind of how I deal
with people when you got to realizesometimes when you deal with difficult people in
life, I don't walk down becauseI always have the mindset something happened to
(01:46:24):
them that hurt them, and sothey're this way because something happened to them,
and I always try to keep thatmindset. So you try to show
people grace and compassion because maybe theyhurt so bad they have a wall up
and that's why they act that way. That's how to understanding the people,
and that's why I kind of canrelate to the villain, like something triggered
them to be this evil. Right. Hey, there's a quote. You
(01:46:48):
know, I'm a big kind ofbook fan, right, so one of
the greatest quotes in complot history isthe Joker telling Batman, like, the
thing that happened to me was onebad day. That's that's put me on
this path, one bad, badday. Hey, what what happened to
you was one bad day, whichis why you dressed like a bat right,
(01:47:13):
one bad day. So it's likethe one bad day separates the villains
from the hero, right, likeyour bad day your parents are getting killed,
made you want to be a hero, and me me having the things
that Well, there's multiple origins forthe Joker, so you know, right,
whatever happened to the Joker set himon his bath where he's right,
I really want to know the Joker'sorangery story. Now I'm gonna have to
(01:47:35):
go back, and there's a fewof them, so they are are multiple
choice, right. But that's whyI have Harley Quinn in there, because
I like Harley Quinn. Harley Quinnwas in love with the Joker, you
know, I can relate to beingin love with somebody who's crazy. I
thought, I thought, I thoughtthat project was pretty good. I can
(01:47:57):
relate to being another with somebody who'sthe nuts. I get it completely.
You're in love, you're in love. You feel with me, you don't
see you just try to masch thatenergy and link with them like I got
you, bou, I'm here withyou, and that's about it. But
like even Poison Nivy, you know, she was trying to save the world
and then saying she stopped plants andthe little accident at the lab just you
(01:48:18):
know, so like that's okay, the entertained with villainous vengeance right after that.
Yeah, yeah, that's what Isay. That's what inspired Poison Nivy
and Harney Quinn and eighty eight orin e she like the kill Bill characters,
(01:48:39):
kills Bill and Jean Gray because youknow, me being Phoenix, you
know, everybody always makes it synonymouswith you know, Jean Gray, the
Marvel, and I can relate tothat. Like she was triggered, you
know, she couldn't control her abilities, and once she got to the point
she couldn't control What can you dowhen you don't have charge of your stuff,
(01:49:00):
You're just gonna blackout? So Iunderstood. But that's why I had
the song Gene is Dead, becausethey were looking for Gene to be compassionate
and it wasn't Gene anymore. Feelme like, that's not Gene, that's
dark Phoenix, like she don't careabout nothing. And that scene when she
killed the professor man and I cried, do you hear me? I cried,
(01:49:24):
so then like no, not theprofessor. But I just like doing
entertaining stuff. I figure everybody islovely as killing somebody or talking about how
they daddy abandoned them or you know, everybody else had these seen topics over
over again, and I want usto do something that shit with me.
(01:49:45):
I love watching TV. I lovewatching TV shows, and I like strong
women's role so that's why they're villainthis vengeance. I think it would be
entertaining and to tackle a lot offemale characters that people probably didn't even know
about. Right. I enjoyed it. They came with Lorder's Move. I
(01:50:09):
moved like a month after that.Yes, And now we come to the
latest projected, Call Me Billy Billy, which features a couple there, keep
my mouth shut, call me Billybotch, but um call me Billy Botch.
(01:50:30):
But I called me Billy, callme Billy. I got the idea.
I had it since last year.Okay. It was like Gold and
everybody like I'm grimy, and Iwas like, you know, I'm very
grimy. Now Conway is the grimiestman of all time. I feel like
I'm the grimiest woman of all time. So therefore, Billy Gold like the
(01:50:55):
grimiest of all time as far aswomen go. So that's that the new
all to egos Billy. Now,okay, that's another aspect. Yeah,
that's the good. That's the goodto that. That's that talking my mess,
popping my collar. Um, allto ego? You feel me because
I try to be humble. Um, but a lot of people be like
(01:51:16):
you need to stop being some homeWell you on this one, this one,
Oh yeah, I wasn't gone anotheranother couple of heat rocks on this
drink man's flavor. Now, um, let me let me back up for
a quick second. I want youto talk about Rugged Triad. Okay,
now, I guess I'm wearing theRugged Triad shirt, you know, So
(01:51:39):
I wanted to talk about your crewor your business. Um that you happen
to be the CEO of UM,Rugged Triad talk about that Rugged Tryad.
I founded Rugged try twenty twenty.UM. Initially, Uh, I wanted
to have a crew called the Tryadand one person comment fell off, so
(01:51:59):
now place with another person. Sothere was me and two other guys and
then Dad being pan out with them. So then I kept you moving,
got two other guys from my firstgroup that I was in to come in
and we started working back into gettingtriass. So I have Novet, I
have Iron just left, so yeah, Iron is not with us anymore.
(01:52:25):
But I have Nevetta, have DoctorTerra, I have zigs UM, I
have Subterrane, I have Banner,I have Streets, I have Nique Deville.
Then I have my producers, UMlike save Me Brand News, Texilla,
Who am I missing? Texilla? The Queen new Um Quake Mob is
(01:52:48):
my original in house producers. Ihave Wisdom Beats. I've bought on this
new production. So I feel likeI'm bringing on more new producers, like
you said, than anything else.UM, bringing my producers to the folds
and work in that way. Workingwith artists is hard because I find that
I really want people who are goingto back me up and promote my brand.
(01:53:11):
And it seems like every time Ibring people on, they want to
promote their brand and not really tryingto put in the effort to Like when
I was let's put put the backto Freethinker Clan. When I work with
Freethinker Clan and working with Cream tohelp boost that brand. I never mentioned
Rugged Triad. I always kept ittwo separate. You never saw anything.
Everything was Freethinker Clan, free ThinkerClan. Freethinker Clan never regged tryad.
(01:53:35):
I've separated the two. I needpeople to who are able to separate their
shit from mine. You feel whatI'm saying. Can we separate the two
and can we push the brand forward? That that's the most important thing.
When you have the unity to forcethem push the brand and goes further,
then the further it goes, thenwe could revisit your brand. You feel
(01:53:59):
what I'm saying. That's why Imake non compete contracts. You can't even
have a record label until one yearafter your contract has inspired with me because
I don't want you taking my strategy. And you're gonna take my strategy and
go compete with me at the automput you in and plug you to all
the recent right, you feel ithimself right now? God thing, I'm
(01:54:27):
gonna be bold and assets because I'vebeen me and you've talked about this before
off air. Yea. Is ithired for you as a female with the
knowledge you would have in the inthe connects you have, you know,
through blogging, through the industry andbeing a being a female well MC yourself,
I mean, let me get ridof that whole. Yeah, you've
(01:54:50):
been an MC yourself. Is ithard because somebody said once it's hired for
artists to work with another artist, whereas you're trying to push yourself and then
you're trying to push an artist out. Is it hurt to you being a
I hate to even say it,would you being a female? He got
(01:55:10):
for me to be running men?Yeah? Is it hurt to manage dudes
that's coming into the industry and you'retrying to guide them? Um, certain
ones are responsive and others just feellike, I mean, I'm just gonna
do what I want to do.I had an artist who I had that
(01:55:30):
was he He came to me,he was like, oh, I fully
invest in what you got to say. And the minute I started telling him
how to do this and that tomaximize his outcome. He want to be
combative with me, get an attitude, wanting to bro I'm not going through
that with you. I'm not becauseI'm not because I get get violent and
(01:55:55):
I don't want to have to beviolent with nobody. So we gotta gotta
sid feel what I'm saying. Thatwould be the undomini devieau part of me,
because now you're gonna make me turnsomething else I don't want to be.
Because the best explanation for it,Jazzolle says, I'm a female Dame
Dash. That's how he refers toIt. Feels like you remind me of
(01:56:16):
Dame Yo here. It's like you'rea female Dame Dash. I'm just like
a no nonsense person. Once Ilay out a protocol in the structure and
you sign off and we agree toit, and I have conference calls about
it, be conferencing consistently. Myphone line is always open to you.
Why are you trying to go againstthe green? But it'd be because people
(01:56:38):
be willing to use your presence anduse your resources to push their agenda.
And once they get a little buzz, then they feel like they got it
all on a lot. They couldcut ties and skate. Then when they
skate and then they a little carcassin the desert with the hyenas speaking off
of them dead, then you realize, oh, why a mistake. Yeah,
(01:57:00):
but it's too late now because learnto listen. It's not hard for
me to put my artists first, because that's the priory. I made a
promise to you, So I'm aperson who I'm a woman of my word.
If I have to stay up onnight to make sure I make something
happen in this end for you,I'm gonna be up on night to make
sure I'll uphold that for you.I'm not gonna put my career like I
(01:57:23):
got put my career ahead of it. I can't do that because I made
you a promise. So oftentimes I'mgiving them my best beat so they could
shine on the beat. But it'ssupposed to be for me. I'm staying
up, putting out the resources.I'm staying up blasts and stuff, creating
promo, trying to line stuff up, and it's often not appreciated, which
(01:57:44):
actually it's good to have this conversationbecause it comes to the point where I'm
possibly dissolved working with artists and justbe curating because I just don't like the
head. I feel like I becomeso selfless that people take advantage of it
and they don't really appreciate it,and I feel like I'll be wasting my
time. Not only does it wastemy time, it breaks my heart,
(01:58:05):
like I'll be here crying, likenobody else is gonna do this for you
in your life. And I feellike working with black men, I figured
out as a black let me helpthese men and they will literally like walk
all over me like I'm not doingnothing for them, and then like you
(01:58:26):
know, I'm gonna turn turn upon you. So I don't want to
do that. Nobody for the peopleout there, listen, I'm gonna see
this right now. I first handseen this within thego all right. I
first hadn't seen as an indigo whereshe's stepped back where she told me she's
got this project coming out and she'sabout to come out with something. This
is when I first met with her. But she pushed her stuff back so
(01:58:50):
she could push the artists that shejust signed out and try to get them
out there first, right, Andthen they stepped and did they think?
So he had to push everything fromhers back and then she had to recover
from that. So what she's sayingthat just isn't her just saying it.
This actually happened. I've seen ithappen. I keep telling people. People
(01:59:13):
be thinking you're speaking from opinion.I don't speak from opinion. I speak
from sperience. I see from experience. I'm putting a person on. This
person promised to push my brand, and they had their own little side brand.
I'm giving them beats, and thenthey come out not only are you
my artists on my label, I'myour manager, and you come out with
(01:59:35):
a whole project with beasts that Igave you that was supposed to be under
my label, under your label.I tell you I'm done with you.
Next thing is, oh, jumpoff a bridge, heal yourself, hit
yourself in the head with a nail. All this slanderous type is from men
who I've done nothing but support. But you did some snake stuff, and
(01:59:57):
you expect me to just be cornery'all. Wouldn't you know I'm not just
rapping about this stuff, bro,I'm not rapping about this stuff. I
still have people looking and they'd belike, we don't never see him come
out. Pop out. Yeah, that's all I gotta say. Pop out.
It's best served cold. Pop out, That's all I gotta say.
(02:00:19):
All the little click talk men behaving for me, like I have men
who will handle all of that.I don't go back and forth with men.
I just find it crazy that yougive so much love and affection and
support to people. And that's thehurtful thing about stuff, is that I
really be putting my heart out therefor them. I really be trying,
(02:00:42):
and I almost to sweat almost everytime I get a knife in my back.
It's crazy to me. Hey,I understand how that's happened to me
as a DJ, where I've helpedpeople get to a certain point and then
they just you know, and me, I do this like you. I
do it from a point where I'mnot looking for anything back. I'm just
(02:01:03):
there to help you, right, and to find out that you, you
know, you kind of like usme and jerked me around later on and
spoke bad about me. That mademe feel a certain type of way.
It's like, I'm a businesswoman, and this is the thing in business,
(02:01:24):
you never give people your resource.I didn't give you one. I get
you one third of what I knowone thing about me. I'm going to
teach my artists to business, becauseGod forbid, something happened to me.
I want you to know how tofunction. I helped them set up the
band camp. I had to setthe music was going, the money was
going directly to them. Everything wasgoing directly to them. I was paying
(02:01:45):
for all the art, I waspaying for all the mixes. I was
paying for all of this. Andit's just crazy how people will try to
switch then them narrative when you stopdealing with them. But I learned never
to share all your resources because youjust don't do that. You give people
enough of what they need to know. That's why they figured when they skated,
(02:02:08):
they thought they had the formula.H I only told you too teaspoons
of salt and samakan soda. Ididn't tell you all the other stuff,
right, I didn't tell you howto whip. I'd give you the whole
pyrex um recipe. So now you'resitting there looking crazy. But because you
(02:02:29):
thought you ran off with the plugsand even in burnt Champagne Dominique Devereaum,
so you could use my plugs, results won't be the same. You could
use my plugs. How you approachit ain't gonna hit the same. How
you rocket on the track from oneof my plugs ain't gonna hit the same.
(02:02:49):
I picked people that compliment me.I don't pick people off a popularity.
People be thinking people off a popularity, and they they don't sound right.
That's why a lot of rappers whothink they rap good and they'd be
picking these beasts. Yeah you rapgood, yet that beat this fight,
but you and that beat together don'tsound good. So that's why a lot
of people don't hit, because you'repicking things to try to compete and be
(02:03:14):
popular instead of picking soundscapes that arecomplimentary to use the artists and that that's
the difference to me. I pickthings that compliment me and my style.
What I like, what I wantto hear. I don't try to pander
to any audience. I do musicthat I like, and I know the
certain people who like that say Iwill gravitate to me. I don't have
(02:03:36):
to be a Sarak or a rapCity or any other female rapping because those
roles are already taken. I'm gonnabe in the go Phoenix, and I'm
gonna come with variety. You knowI'm not a one trick pony. I'm
not gonna just be doing one style. I'm not gonna be just doing you
(02:03:56):
know how you want to box me. I'm my mask. I'm gonna see
how I want. I'm a banghere. I might see some righteousness over
here. But either which way, anytime you heard me, you heard what
I said, you feel me,And I did it my way, and
I did it with my style andmy sound skit, and it's plaining simple.
(02:04:17):
Now, this is the thing Iwant to touch on. I'm tired
of hearing producers and I know whatit happens, but I'm sure it's tired
of hearing producers taking beasts that Iuse and just changing the drum or raging
the guitar or changing some something onit. And then next thing, I
know, it's on somebody else Stubecause out I heard Prispelda drinks like that,
(02:04:41):
and I know for sure this personshe used this song. But then
it starts to feel like, ohdad, she using a Grizelda saying I
know I had these beats before Grizelda, and somebody taking my ship and taking
it over to Griselda and ushering itoff then it's seemed like I'm biting and
I don't. That's the only thingI don't know sicular soundscape, but I
(02:05:02):
don't like nobody taking it over therelike it's there. It's like that that's
mine. Yeah, hello ups.So you know when it comes to curating
as well, I love curating. But when I'm curating, let me pick
the beas, let me pick theart. That's what curating is. If
you pick the beach. If youstart being particular here, you are curating
(02:05:25):
now. So when your project flops, you can't turn to me like I'm
gonna keep it a band. That'swhat Rob Walker did. He wanted to
put all the psychic production on fromhis friends. I understand you feel what
I'm saying because he took fault heboils to his friends. I respect that
he wanted to make them inclusive, but the soundscale just had to match,
and it just wasn't matching what Iwanted to hear. When I'm curating for
(02:05:48):
you, I want you to stepout outside of your comfort zone and jump
on some brandy stuff or something likeI'm doing, and how you could sound
on that instead of what you're comfortablewith doing. Feel me so when you
hear Shabam Sadies album, you're gonnahear that from him because Bam just totally
stepped out of his comfort zone.He let me get him some production from
(02:06:11):

check one straight from Underground two pointoh. We're about getting into another part
of that interview I did with IndigoPhoenix. Yo. I hope y'all listened
to some of the joints. Thesejoints is coming from a couple of the
albums he don't put out this year. She's got mad projects. Weren't talked
about that, and she's got acouple of work on the way more she
(02:17:52):
let's get back into it. ButKevin like listening to a band soundscape or
his project. I lot of peopleand I'm curiating to step outside of being
comfortable with what they're used to doingand do something different, like trying different
sound. Don't argue with me aboutthe art because everybody'll be thinking they aren't
(02:18:13):
fly that shit fly if you trash. If you trash it, don't be
hitting. It's not cohesive with theproject. When I do something, I
want everything to be cohesive, allthe way down to the titles, the
concept. Everything means. You knowhow I rob. Everything needs to be
across the board. So I lovecuration, and I think that's where I'm
(02:18:33):
gonna be going from this point, just because I'm getting tired of going back
and forth with grown men. Youfeel what I'm saying. If I have
to keep beef with you like thisone person. I just told somebody the
other day, like they disclose tome taking a flight, for real,
(02:18:54):
they disclose to the flight and thesmell. I just want to witness the
slap because I got somebody there toslap them. I stop playing with me.
I show nothing but love and respect, and man, as you start
doing all this crazy stuff and thinkingyou're going to crazy to me, now
you're gonna have to get washed.I'm for real, like, don't play
like that. I show nothing butnothing but love. So that's the only
(02:19:16):
gripe I have with label stuff isI have loyal writers. And then I
have people who like to squabble withme and try to tell me how to
run my company. Like, you'renot gonna tell me how. I'm not
changing, not gonna switch it up, Niga. I'm gonna keep doing it
how I've been doing it. Weall agree to this, Like we agree
to this so many times. Whyare you trying to switch on me?
(02:19:39):
So I don't understand it? Yeah, I don't understand. Why didn't you
trying to switch up for me?I absolutely hate it, but I love
running the label. I love theguys that I have. So far,
we get ready to drop our firstcompilation, like twenty something song. So
literally the minute I get over here, I'm about to go in my room
(02:20:00):
up across the bed and start organizingall of this stuff. Um wow,
we have so many songs, soI'm so excited. This is the first
compilation from Rugget Trash. So we'regonna be covering some old joints, adding
new joints in there. So I'mgonna do a sidday side. Okay,
now real quick, let me I'mgonna touch down a couple of the collaborations
(02:20:20):
you did last year or over thelast six months. It's been like highly
selective. You did a track called, um, let's see I can't remember
now, I can't remember the nameof that because I put it. I
put it in the intro. It'sone of my favorite tracks, right,
you know, National's my six Whenevershe's in Atlanta, we LinkedIn. You
(02:20:43):
feel what I'm saying, like videoshoot, Michael Door is going to scooper
up. You know, my grandson'sin the back stair to her, Like,
yo, who's this? Like isso sweet? He's adorable. Um,
she's probably one of the most curiousfemales. We worked on the Essential
album and then she was you know, I return the favor. You feature
(02:21:07):
for me, I feature for you. Um we did the vice Grip clearly
killed me on the mountain top.Oh my god, she nearly killed me
on the mountain now mind you.I'm thinking, oh, this is good.
This is not a bad hike. We're going up the mountain. So
I'm sitting me, I'm just watchingher. But there's no cover from the
(02:21:31):
sun, and it was dumb hotand I'm in and that thing I'm now
I'm seeing like four edgels. NowI'm like, oh crap. Yeah,
I'm like, yo, I'm seeingmirages. I'm about to pass the hell
out. MC M bagoes fly andI'm like nah, But then yo,
(02:21:54):
Nestra runs to the car to goget the juice. I'm likely like pouring
water old like faces beat like this. I'm literally just poured water all over
my face, like yo, Ican't pass out on this mountain and she
ain't got the juice. I snappedout of it, got back up,
and we finished the record doing thescenes like if that's how hot it was,
(02:22:16):
I poured water over my head itwithin five minutes. I was that
dry enough to shoot h Yeah, that's how hot it was. Yea.
Yeah, I love that collaboration betweenyou both. Man. I'm glad it
because Nesma had become one of myfavorite female and sees within the space of
(02:22:37):
a couple of months because her andmy other homeboys, I gotta join Napoleon
as well. Yeah you do.I love that combination and the hum did
you joined Napoleon on my very firstalbum? I recognized Ali is my my
(02:22:58):
first album, and yeah, rememberthat right, yes, voda um.
I can't remember who else Kille shootelo cuz you know when I first my
first album was lit for real guy, Yeah, yo for real? And
then of course you also go backlike you already mentioned that your friends are
(02:23:18):
diamond d but another friends you haveis with Daddy O. You was on
he was on the track of Daddiolast year. Man, Daddyo is the
homie like I could honestly tell peoplelike I'm I'm in the chat just probably
a little while ago, laughing upwith Pete Rock like Pete rockets hilarious too,
Um Domingo, like I talk toa couple of legends, did just
(02:23:41):
be he she want serves the purpose. Pete Rocket is totally jokes like he
hen't offering no advice. He andsaying this and that. When it comes
to Diamond Um diamis said to datemy home girl. So he's kind of
like big brother iss with me.He always giving me advice, don't do
this, you shouldn't do like that. You know. He always talking mess
(02:24:03):
about my grimy Sava. He's toofine to be grimy. Indeed, you
can't be being grimy. But I'mlike, this is who I am dying
and you can't change me. DaddyHill is just that one person who he
just loves me the way I amum straight out of Brown's vill be from
the same place, and we justbecame fast friends. Like I had a
(02:24:24):
video point and um, Daddyo camethrough. He came through with the Minister.
At that I thought that was cute. I'm like, I'm over here
with the black Witch concept and youbought the minister. But cool. Um,
So he came to the video shoot. We chopped it up and we
decided to do a project together andwe're still working on that. We got
(02:24:46):
some joints just coming um one featureand playing the Asia rass pass Um Sadam's
gonna be on one. We gotthe one with Thirst already and then I'm
talking to Tragedy about getting on one. I just have to fire stop from
one to put Tragedy on and Um, that project is going to be fired.
But Daddy, you're the type ofperson. He'll literally hit me at
(02:25:07):
like eleven thirty yo. Up.I just thought it is and it's like
what He'll play something from a femalerapper and he'll just she's not affing with
you, She's not affing with yourlife, yo. I sway, He's
just be asking me. I'm like, Daddy, I don't do that and
(02:25:28):
of course you mentioned them already andyou already said you're doing a project with
them already. But another another goodfriend of yours, Sabama, who I
feel is like one of the mostunderrated, yes underground m seas that ever
walked the face of his earth. You know, Bam is like my best
(02:25:48):
friend. I can honestly say Bamis also like a mentor to me,
um because when I be going througha lot of stuff, He's been that
go to person for me in lifethings and music things, because he'll try
to make sure I'd be diplomatic abouthow I go about certain things. Because
he's a really chilled person. He'ssold they back and chilled, and he's
been in this industry almost what closeto thirty years. He's been doing this
(02:26:13):
and he it's like he said,it's timeless. So working with him on
this project that's coming up is reallyspecial because he's actually letting me curate.
He there's not one beat that hepicked. He's like, I trust you,
Indy, you don't miss do it. The artwork he loved. He
(02:26:33):
just trust me, you know whatI'm saying. And that's all I'd be
asking people when I'm curating. Letme take the rain. I'm not gonna
jack you up, just give methe chance to do it. But I've
enjoyed working with Bam. He shotmy first video for me. Um.
You know, he's just a dopeperson to work where he always because actually,
(02:26:54):
you made my friendship with Saban Sadiqa little bit more strip because of
me and your friendship. Yeah, and I'm not linking people like that.
I feel like that's important to linkpeople that way. I'm gonna definitely get
you with Daddyo too though, becauseyou gotta talk to him about this new
set to sonic problem. But it'simportant to link other people. And I
(02:27:18):
like cooking people up. Like likeI said, save Me is doing some
stuff on m Sabantce project, givinghim a different soundscape. I feel feel
like it's important to kind of putpeople togetherether and make things happen. I
mean, that's what we're here for, to share the resources and the friendships
and the connections, and that's justhow we rock. Bam is probably one
(02:27:43):
of the people I've dealt with overthe years who I've never had any issue
it. He probably knows me thebest out of anybody. That's what we
was just talking about you. What'sgoing on, my lady, Yo,
got I gotta shout out to Sabancereal quick because I think the project you
and him are working at it isthe project he wants to promote. Because
(02:28:05):
sa Man really doesn't do too manyinterviews, but he has promised me an
interview when this joint comes out, right, I'm looking forward to it.
It's gonna be fires. I couldjust tell you this because I have XP
on me in general Steel that's justa couple of Terra vampoo is on there
as well, so it's Terravan Pool. I see him in the comments.
(02:28:26):
Yeah. But Naturale, I wasjust talking to Naville the other day.
I'm working on some video stuff.Natural is gonna be here in Atlanta like
the end of June to July,so I'm definitely linking. We definitely smoking
some cigars because I like cigars ifthey pop it in fused and they have
to be like the expensive one.My people actually own a cigar plays Jewish
(02:28:46):
Jewish Day cigars. So he's gonnasend me some cigars because I'm doing some
videos and shows and he's gonna sendme a sponsor package. So me,
I already saw Natural the other day, Like, Yo, we're gonna have
some smokes, some wine or champagneand chop it up. You know what
I'm saying. So I can't wait. You know, you know, the
greatest, the greatest collaboration I've seenNasma do is the joint she doing my
(02:29:11):
man Napoleon. But I gotta admityou and her sound dope together. Now.
I'm supposed to be creating a projectfor Negima this year when she's ready,
So that's gonna be fire because I'vebeen dying to curate for a female
and Nema is that female that I'llbe curating for us. So she'll be
the first female artist that our curatedproject. Yo. I can't wait to
(02:29:33):
hear that man, right, Yo? I hope I hope you guys when
she comes down there. H Ihope you too do some kind of track
together when you know, we gottado something. I'm definitely doing. I'm
doing videos for Dominique Devereaux. I'mdoing the flag Fire video just for you,
(02:29:54):
Yo, I'm a close with thatthat I want to talk about that
in the second ahead keep going.Yeah, we're gonna through the flat on
fire. So I'm gonna flat onFire your sound Garden with two and I'm
gonna mash up those videos. ThenI'm gonna Dominique Devereaux Burnt Champagne and Patrol
Skip with Luca mashed up. Sothose are gonna be two upcoming visuals I
(02:30:15):
do because I'm working on a virtualshow. So I'm actually gonna have a
concert performance to be on YouTube,Robbie performing some of my hit joints and
the fans worldwide can't just go toYouTube and check the performance from there.
Now, I got a couple ofpeople in Atlanta. When I visit Atlanta,
(02:30:35):
me and the wife. You haveto come by your crib. You
gotta come by. We gotta gottacome by crib. We gotta come through.
You gotta come through. You know. I love Wifey too, and
I gotta get her her try assshirt. I know she's gonna kill me.
When he messed up the order,I was like, you know these
shirts and cracy baby. Now youday yo, um what I see?
(02:31:01):
I want to say the best forlast you talking about it called me Billy
album right now. My favorite tracksof course on here is I love the
Immersion Drink with Banner. Yeah, that is a bang cave niro Yo.
I saw him in the chat earlier. Yo, that that is a bang
(02:31:22):
right, that's my joint. Noapex flex is a tight joint to things
is in here too. He producedthat um sound. Gar Una was in
here earlier. He wasn't here earlier. It was in here earlier. Goldfings
is still in here. And ofcourse my favorite track right now because the
minute I heard it was like,yo, because you took an old nursery
(02:31:45):
Ryan, my grandma, grandma, everybody the nursery song. But you know
what it is. It's a whoduwho type of and when it says,
I'm she's gonna sell her flat, gonna fire me, and she's gonna put
a curse on it, flag onfire, that's all I said. But
(02:32:07):
like hell, if you don't knowthe meaning of it, that's definitely only
what that means. I got thatfrom. I can't remember what scary movie
it was, but Day's played thedefinition of that song and it's not not
really a nursery song. That's whyI'll be laughing with people. Well,
that's that's why I heard it backin the day when I was a kid.
But hearing you recited and then justthe rhymes on there because I wish
(02:32:30):
you had did a third verse tome, I wish your third I think
that sound deserved the third verse.Yeah. The other day and it was
like, you'll playing Grandma's song,yo, yo, and let's see,
maybe maybe you could do a remixof it. Who knows. I wouldn't
be dope. I know one thingis a certain Nega will be here by
(02:32:54):
the time I'm shooting a video foryou. In your head, there's a
potential for that, Okay. Anyway, so that signed, and then there
was a time like you went fromone flow and then right in the middle
of the first, but she wentright into another flow. I was like,
yo, oh yeah, big sickgloss click click pop click stopped saying
(02:33:20):
shit stop yo. I was like, yo, yo, yeah, I
was slugging out. I just beover here having fun. Man, when
I hear the tracks something different,I'm be signed all the same. But
now you'll be trying to learn differentcadences, different flows. So you know,
(02:33:41):
I couldn't you have to hone yourcraft. I'd be feeling like I
really have to put into what I'mdoing. Indie Yo, you like one
of my favorite rappers right now.Yeah, when you when you really,
when you really set your mind toit, you just surprised it shot out
of it. Yo. She killedthat yo? Yeah, thank you.
(02:34:05):
Yeah, I can't wait. Iactually just found, when I tell you,
the aesthetics for this visual. Who'sgonna be crazy. I just found
the craziest goat horns. It's thegoat horn crown and I did the album
cover for Call Me Billy. Itlooks just like the horns that I put
on that art. So I'm actuallygonna have the big horns. It's gonna
(02:34:26):
be fly. Let me ask youreal quick, who did the earth for
call Me Art? It's crazy,yo, I don't know what I'm talking
about here. Let me let meshow the people that's on on Instagram what
this picture of this album looks like. Right yeah, that's the cover art
(02:34:48):
right there. Yeah, Yo,that is nuts. Man. I'm proud
of myself. You know what itis. I can tide the way it
for people to do stuff up forme. You have to start figuring stuff
out. Like Plane had already toldme about doing mixes. So that's the
thing that I'm working on next,is learning how to do my own mixes.
(02:35:09):
I started working up doing my ownart, learning how to do my
own mixes. That way, youdon't have to wait for people, you
know. Now, I started learninghow to do my own beaches over with
for people at this point, youknow, watching my mouth, you know,
Chris GiB getting on me because I'llbe having a party now. But
it's over with for y'all once I'velearned how to do my own now.
(02:35:30):
Actually, you could remember the podcastokay, yeah, yeah, you know
Overweight for you niggas. When Ilearned how to do that, I save
the radio voice for when we dow But I was trying to behaved because
I know how this doing certain interviews. You can't be cursing. My friend
(02:35:50):
went to the college radio and curse. I said, girl, you don't
got to find so good. They'renot inviting me back. And remember,
Indie, this is the first episodeof the podcast over seven something month.
Wow. I had to stop becausemy mother got sick. Okay, I
had I had to devote time toher. So so it's ironic that I'm
(02:36:15):
restarting it my mother's day. Mymother's fine. I dropped off. It's
awesome, glad to get out.Oh so she's good. So now I
have time to do the podcast again. So when you said that you you
wanted to be down for it,I was like, oh, it'll be
perfect, Indie being an oh happyMother's Day. Thank you, Yeah,
thank you that ma saw that andLady Crawley. I'm laughing because I was
(02:36:37):
on the Live with m Jack Sparrowthe other day. He was like,
Yo, your Mother's Day. Iknow you're gonna be having all this stuff.
I said, yeah, my daughterand study and study. I mean
she's probably trying to go off somewhen. Sure enough she head into the beach.
So at least somebody made sitting. That's the highlight. I'm not baby
sitting. Yeah, that's it.The happy Mother's Day to all the minds.
(02:37:00):
This some moms in here in thechat. Your happy Mother's Day.
Real indeed. So I was like, happy to get you on Mother's Day
and we can kick off podcast becauseI don't celebrate holidays for real, So
any holiday works for me. Youknow, you know what I'm you know
what I'm doing, what I'm working, to me, to me, to
me, it is a Sunday, regardless of exact actually it's Sunday, like
(02:37:20):
I said, as soon as weget off this, I'm gonna grab some
Cafe Boosilla and just hop on thebed and get this, getting this this
compilation out. Like all I dois work for the most part, and
I want people to know I dotake days off like people tell you're just
the machine. You just know, don't be fooled. I can't look this
young and cute at this age ifI don't get sweep. So I'll take
(02:37:45):
a cool day. You'll go tosleep now and just won't do anything for
that day and I have to recharge. I always up. It's over.
I'm nice to tie to you inman. You know you always do a
great interview thinking and you've always beenlike a real good friend and always for
us, always agreed to see youall your endeavors. I didn't even get
(02:38:09):
to talk about your writing yet.Let's get people briefing short. I'm doing
writer's film UM film workshops. Idid the first one already, UM.
For those who don't know, I'mthe director of African American Women in Cinema
Atlanta Chapter UM. So I hadthat chapter here UM Initially when I started,
(02:38:33):
I always wanted to have an educationalcomponent because I am a certified facilitator,
you know, and for people whodon't know that, like I facilitate
any meeting, Like you're getting yourtopic of a meeting, I can't facilitate
that meeting for you, like Ifacilitated meetings with government officials here in at
Manta. So I created customized classesfor the workforce. Um. I started
(02:38:58):
one of the first jobs, welfareto work. So that's my wheelhouse.
So I wanted it to incorporate thatwith the writer's workshops so that I can
get free writing workshops to women whocan't afford these three five hundred dollar workshops.
So I dedicate some of my timeto teach women for free quarterly and
(02:39:20):
just offer them advice. They canhit me up if anybody can hit me
up, if they really want tolearn about film stuff. I have resources
for that. And that's all I'mdoing right now. I'm really getting more
invested back into stuff because one ofmy friends, he works with Paramount and
show Time and HBO and remember myold script, so now he wants me
to revamp a couple of things. So yeah, so yeah, I'm about
(02:39:45):
to get back in my bag withthat. And you know, he's talking
some good stuff. About the filmstuff from there. I do have a
film that's out on Amazon problem thatI wrote called Toxic Behavior. You need
to check that. Yeah, butI'm trying to get back in the bag
of my horror films because horrors thegenre that I like the best. But
(02:40:05):
I also have episodics like power raisingcane in like I have one along that
line that UM initially talent I wasabout that very was interesting any but there
was a liaison in between it thatwas he was trying to be greedy.
So my lawyer, UM decline that, UM, I hate he declined.
(02:40:30):
I said it just like he hadn'tcreated something else. But uh, but
you know you because I'm working withsomebody else and where you have to create
a control over the writing. Youdon't want you're writing looking too crazy out
there and you're a writer and thenthey start switching up stuff. You feel
what I'm saying, but your nameis going it. So it was kind
(02:40:50):
of an if he's situation. ButI wouldn't a kid if the person wasn't
trying to like Railroad, the FindersStreet like you in certain caps when it
comes to um finders feeds and canpeople up. But other than that,
I'm back into the writing. I'malso um thinking of combining all of my
interviews um into a book and umsoon Chance has agreed to help me.
(02:41:16):
Yeah, helped me with that.So I'm excited about that. And yes,
definitely I want to give a majorsalute to him. He's been our
gam He's spoken up on my behalfso many times. Like with the Grind
Award, he just came out thegate like he didn't kill who said what,
He just came out and big reportedme. And I appreciate that,
and I want to thank everybody whovoted for me for that award. I'm
(02:41:39):
excited, you know, to getthose results out there. And hey,
what was doing that? A word? Yo? Yeah I heard him get
a results that already let's go totheatrics of it all. So now I'm
excited about that one. But yeah, okay, you know what I mean.
(02:42:03):
They were trying to shut my accountdown and all of this bashing me
in the comments. Oh we don'tknow who she is, but distance like
what like, I'm like, look, this is a grind a ward,
not a bar for bar award, and even bar for bar you gonna keep
scause I had to get cocky, like not fucking with me. Shock,
(02:42:24):
don't play with me like that, talking about don't let them go, don't
let them wipe your whole blood Yes, it's that's your whole bloodline and your
next the kid, all of it. It's all of that because why you
know, I worked really hard andlike I said, I just do it.
(02:42:46):
It's it's fun for me. It'sorganic to me. It's nothing strange
and stressed about it, like Isaid earlier, pier for those who minced
it. Like I attribute a lotof my newly found work FIC to AP
to Overlord because how he showed mehow to organize and put out the content
a certain way and keep things structuredin a certain way. I was able
(02:43:09):
to do things with more ease andmore grace than I was before one Huma.
Right, you feel what I'm saying. I appreciate that, and I'm
an avid believer in giving people creditwhere credit is due, you know.
So he introduced me to a lotof the producers like saved me Um grand
(02:43:33):
new Um, who else um,Russian futurists like Sighter like those are people
he was working with. So justto be able to work with those same
people too. You know, youknow, I enjoy working with them and
we have like a good bond rightnow. So I appreciate the introduction all
those people that Indy just mentioned. Those producers. You can find them all
(02:43:56):
on the Call Me Billy, availableon bandcamp dot com. Oh and there's
one thing I got to compliment youon. I was just talking about this
last night on my radio show lastnight where I was talking to my man
saying I even a terrible and Italked about how he set up his own
(02:44:16):
website and releases his music through website. You're one of the artists I mentioned
also that got kind of smart withthe whole streaming thing. Oh yeah,
you're watching to put your music outfor free? Why it is to be
popular? Like, no, stopdoing that. Stop doing that. I
made so much money off of bandcampbecause people could pay me more. You
(02:44:41):
know what, I dropped Animal Archivesright that you mentioned in Genuary, right,
somebody that album was seven dollars.Somebody paid me one hundred dollars for
that album. Yeah, that's whatI'm saying. More, why would you
short change yourself just to be onstreaming. I'm not doing that Once the
(02:45:03):
album fizzles out and it's not reallypopular, then I'll throw with the streaming.
I feel like this is an artist. We gotta pay for the art.
We gotta pay for this, payfor that. You can't pay seven
dollars to buy a project or fivedollars to buy project how he used to
be ten and twenty dollars when Iwas young. I remember going to buy
myself for way more like you asa grown adult in your thirties and forties,
(02:45:28):
you can't spend five dollars or sevendollars on the project. That's why
artists artists that I really really like, right, I don't mind. Look,
I don't mind that you you sendingyour projects for free? Right?
And he paid And let me say, y'all, I sent him every project
for free and he still paid forthe project. Yeah, I go out
(02:45:48):
and pay for it because I wantto keep keep supporting you. I don't
just talk support, I actually wantyes. And I appreciate that. I
mean, I'm like, you don'thave to do it and he still pays
for it. Anyway, I appreciatethat, you know, to me as
money well spent, and I'm investingin you as well. But as I
was saying, I like the factthat you did that because you did it
(02:46:09):
to rock Marciano type of stuff. This is what Marciano does. He put
the album out on band camp.Let's a bubble for a while, and
then he'll put it on streaming likemonths later. You adopted. You adopted
that early. You started doing thislike four or five years ago. You
started doing this a couple of yearsago, where you didn't rush to throw
(02:46:31):
your stuff on streaming and people belike, well, I was looking for
Indigo Phoenix, I can only plana couple of songs on Spotify. I
was like, you're not gonna findall her new stuff on Spotify yet.
It's gonna be a while. Goto band camp dot com and go check
it out and go buy it.And because it's to me, it's fine,
Like you said, five dollars sevendollars called me billy right now on
(02:46:54):
band camp at five dollars five bucks. I left it five dollars from the
other day when it was the freeband camp day. I said, let
me leave it at five. It'swho buys it. I mean, you
can't beat that five dollars. Comeon, y'all. So it's like,
how much more you want people tocheapen their craft. It's like this,
(02:47:15):
the streaming services charging you ten dollarsfor subscription, they make billions of dollars.
I broke that for free, Butyou're paying them to get art music
for free and we have to getdamn near billion streams before we make ten
dollars. How is that any benefitsto us as an artist. It's more
(02:47:37):
beneficial for you to take money andgo buy an album than it is to
pay for streaming and listen to iton streaming. It doesn't help the artists,
yeah, especially the numbers. Itjust came out lately where they said
there's at least over at least halfa million artists on Spotify. They don't
get listened to it all, andit with the mainstream, like even the
(02:48:00):
only people who I feel like benefitoff of that type of a platform is
mainstream artists because they're getting billions andstreams. So yeah, they're getting checks.
But if you've seen Snoop Dogg lately, he was up on Instagram.
I saw a video circulating of himspeaking about this very thing, streaming.
(02:48:22):
So if Snoop Dogg is complaining aboutstreaming and making money and you're an underground
artist, Why are you rushing tostreaming your music? Did you know it's
only getting a couple of thousand playerswhile Snoop Dogg is getting millions and billions
and he's not making money. Wehave to be sensible in the fact that
stop trying to do is popular anddo what is conducive to your pockets.
(02:48:46):
And that's why I don't follow thatstructure and sloop to you, though,
I gotta make whenever I talked aboutindependent artists, your name is usually the
first name I throw out there andbe like, thank you. Doesn't mess
around with that. She can seeall her followers. She has the email
of all the people that's basically followingher, and bang right us, I
(02:49:11):
talked to everybody. Most people havemy number. Who are my friends?
Like they can literally hit me sometimeseven if they buy I get, I'll
send them exclusive stuff that nobody elsehas, like kid, check this out.
Here goes this whole project. Thisis something nobody else herd like.
I feel like it's important to keepin touch like your supporters or who helped
you make it. So you haveto be in touch with these people,
(02:49:35):
and I consider them to be friendsto me. So I definitely like to
keep in touch and make sure thatthey're enjoying the music and that they're getting
exclusives and getting some type of incentivefor supporting me as dubed Indio. You
keep doing what you're doing. You'redoing your thing, that CEO, running
(02:49:56):
your own label writing even without power, you know, come on, are
you doing it? All right? Now? Here? Got my girl Broche
And also I'm now a content creatorwith og Press magazine. Congratulations, thank
you. I'll also be featured onthe magazine. My girl sche just came
(02:50:16):
in here. She's gonna be aphotographer and content creator for them as well,
so I'm glad to have her workingwith me as well. So it's
gonna be it's gonna be a lotof fun. I'm doing some different stuff,
so I'm back to a little hiphop journalism. Already have a couple
of interviews lined up with some dopeartists with y'all. Gotta wait and see
(02:50:37):
who the artists are. But theyhot. Speaking of rock Marcy, hint
hint um. The next issue isgonna feature somebody really fly, so I
gotta stay posted and check that out. All right, All right, that's
dope, yo, Indigo Phoenix.Yeah, yeah, follow her right down
on Instagram. And do you stillgot to addresses on Instagram or good one?
