Speaker 1 (00:00):
What is going on? Everybody? Welcome to strike up your
quick beer reviews with your pounds of Allen and rap
Dave and wrap Dave. I'm allan.

Speaker 2 (00:05):
How's it going, buddy?

Speaker 1 (00:06):
It's getting pretty good, buddy, it's getting pretty good. Nice
October day here, pretty good good.

Speaker 2 (00:13):
We are drinking mass Ascension IPA from ex Novo Brewing Company,
and according to untapped, it's the flagship IPA coming out
of New Kerals, New New Mexico Brewery six point nine
percent alcohol by volume eighty IBus I average score a
three point eighty six out of five on untapped out

(00:35):
at nine thousand, two hundred and thirty seven ratings.

Speaker 1 (00:40):
So I picked this up at I think a gas
station over there.

Speaker 2 (00:45):
Oh so you didn't go to this brewery? Nah, okay,
because I know you went to You went to several
breweries out there in New Mexico.

Speaker 1 (00:51):
When you went Yeah, then go to corrals.

Speaker 2 (00:52):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (00:53):
So I was in Riodoso and well I went to
where's all the ghosts or the aliens are at Roswell,
went through Roswell, and then I went to Rido. So
turned around and came back home. So yeah, no, this
one wasn't out there there was only like two breweries
and Riodoso. Okay, but yeah, I picked this up. Somebody
was like, hey, pop into a couple of these little places.

(01:13):
You can get some good beers. Take them back with you,
And that's what I did. This is one of the beers.
This beer has been out for a while. I was
trying to canned on eleven, twenty twenty four. This is
almost a year old. Okay.

Speaker 2 (01:24):
If I know, we would have waited a month, damn it.

Speaker 1 (01:26):
Yeah, I know it. I didn't think about any but
we do have. I do have more. So maybe we'll
do one from the for the one month, because yeah,
it's funny enough. It's like a day or a month
and two months away from being a year old in
two days. But but yeah, no, it's it's one of
those where I just picked it up on the way home.
It was like, let's try it. We'll see what's up.

Speaker 2 (01:43):
So cheers, cheers and good things.

Speaker 1 (01:46):
Yeah, there we go. Oh this smells quite fruity. Oh
it's pretty good. That's pretty good. I don't know if
I'm going to pour it all out.

Speaker 2 (02:01):
There's nothing nothing was in mind.

Speaker 1 (02:03):
No floaters, no nothing.

Speaker 2 (02:04):
Yep, it was good.

Speaker 1 (02:06):
It was I mentioned that, And if you've been watching
the show where you're familiar with us, you know, whatever
we do, we drink a lot of homebrew beer as well,
and a lot of smaller brewers, and they sometimes, you know,
if you dump a can, you might get some troub
at the bottom, some floaters or something like that, which
he doesn't care.

Speaker 2 (02:24):
It's a little flavor, little extra. It's it's like with
the mustache, little flavor saver, right, same thing, same same,
same theory. Uh, this is pretty damn tasty. It's got
that kind of like a dry, not necessarily like a dry,
but like that I p A taste, right.

Speaker 1 (02:43):
So let's see. So their style is this is I
p A slash West Coast I p A. It's a
core series available on Tap year round. The hops are Centennial,
Mosaic and Simco, which we're big fans of, Malt, two
Row and Crystal fifteen. Profile is fruity and hoppy, which, yeah,
definitely fruity and definitely hoppy. You already said six point

(03:03):
nine percent on a carbo volume fifty six IBus. The
yeast is cheek Okay, how many IBus did you say?
Fifty six? Okay?

Speaker 2 (03:11):
Because on Tap has it at eighty, So.

Speaker 1 (03:14):
Now I don't I don't know which one is more recent.
This is, like I said, it's a year old beer.
The can the can art does match the cannart on
the website, so maybe this is, but maybe their first
iteration had a little bit more. I don't. If it's
an eighty something, they've done quite well of keeping the
bitterness down.

Speaker 2 (03:30):
I would say it does not taste like an eighty
Ibu beer. I would. I feel like it's more long
lines of that fifty nine that you have, because I'm
not picking up a ton of bitterness from it. Again,
I'm kind of picking up kind of that that dry
I PA taste.

Speaker 1 (03:45):
You know.

Speaker 2 (03:46):
It's it's just it's very specific to I Pas, that
kind of dry taste that I'm getting, which is something
that I like and enjoy.

Speaker 1 (03:54):
Excuse me. Yeah. They have a two different locations, Corrals
and Albuquerque. So it's a pretty big little brewery, pretty
big outfit that got going out there and I saw
it jumped off the shelf obviously looking at it, it's
just like, you know, I was like, oh, yeah, you're
coming home with me.

Speaker 2 (04:11):
It's got like eight bit look to it. With the
with all the squares where right, Oh, it just takes
us back to our childhood, which you know, we enjoyed
our childhood Nino and all that fun stuff.

Speaker 1 (04:24):
So yeah, our mission brewing for a better world. From
the onset outset, our mission has been simple yet profound,
to donate as much as our net profits to organizations
actively working towards better building a better world. We believe
in the power of a community and decided to dedicate
ourselves to making a difference in both local and global causes.

(04:44):
There you go, there we go with a purpose.

Speaker 2 (04:48):
Yeah, I like purpose when you're brewing beers. You know,
let's get into it now.

Speaker 1 (04:53):
It is rude with pride in Portland organ So I
guess I came down from Portland, right, Is that what
you mentioned?

Speaker 2 (04:59):
No, you just mentioned that.

Speaker 1 (05:00):
I mentioned it.

Speaker 2 (05:01):
Okay, the Kansas brewed in Corals, New Mexico.

Speaker 1 (05:06):
Yeah, yeah, that's where they're at now. So maybe that's
they came down from there.

Speaker 2 (05:09):
Or do they have locations once?

Speaker 1 (05:12):
Well, they have two in New Mexico, Corrals and Albuquerque.
So it says here. Once x Novo expanded down to
New Mexico, they introduced our new flagship i P a
mass ascension in honor of the infamous balloon Fiesta that
happens in New Mexico annually the Clean West Coast I
pa brew with SimCom mosaic and Stantio hops with notes
of citrus and stone fruit. So that does make sense.

(05:33):
Then it doesn't like the balloons, you know what I mean,
like when they get up in the this guy like that.
I like this can. I like it a lot. And
we have a balloon festival here in North Texas as
well in Plano, so we definitely don't. Definitely no ones.

Speaker 2 (05:46):
I felt I feel like there's one in Graham Prairie too.

Speaker 1 (05:50):
They might do one.

Speaker 2 (05:51):
Yeah, yeah, I feel like we got a few out here.
It was funny the other the other day we were
talking at work because we've got we have a location
here we're in North Texas and with location out in Arizona,
and we got managers both areas. We're like, hey, we
need to do we need to try and see if
we can get the company to do like a meet

(06:11):
in the middle type thing and pull up Internet dot com.
What's in the middle, Roswell, New Mexico. Ah, that's awesome,
And it's funny because there's a couple of guys in Arizona.
One guy that I actually we grew up in the
same area, not knowing each other. Then actually both had
the same first job at the same time and not

(06:33):
knowing it at the time, not knowing each other at
the time, come to talk about it, you know X
number of years later, Right, Holy crap, you did that job.
I did that job too, and we were right there
at the same time. They do an alien podcast where
they talk about aliens and stuff like that, and they've
gone to some conventions and things. Because I've kind of

(06:55):
talked to him a little bit, I was like, hey, man,
you know you ever want to join the Get you
on the show and let's talk to aliens. We'll do
a little deep night stuff and talk some alien stuff.
So I think we might be working on something with
that to do that, because you know, we we love
talking aliens.

Speaker 1 (07:09):
Like yeah, yeah. Roswell was a cool place, you know.
I don't think I went for the day, spent the night.
Was there a little bit the second day then we
rolled rolled on West. I think it was just good
enough for the one day. I think I got everything
out of the way in one day, to be honest. Uh,
it's it's really neat. Now they do have a bunch
of it's NonStop like you know, traps, right, alien traps

(07:32):
everywhere or whatever. Now there is some cool stuff. Can
go check out the desert whatever. But you know, when
we left Roswall, Lizzie was convinced that the clouds were
chasing us because they looked like space ships, like alien spaceship.
Maybe I didn't.

Speaker 2 (07:43):
I'm not gonna I'm not gonna say they weren't.

Speaker 1 (07:47):
I go, those look like their followers that looked like
the little saucers, you know. So I was like, let
me just step on the gas a little bit for
a little bit harder.

Speaker 2 (07:53):
But uh, a spoiler, you're not out running them.

Speaker 1 (07:57):
Yeah, so the uh, I will say, this black Cock
Brewing is out there, and ronswell, big black I'm sorry
what you say, big black cock brewing. You heard it.
That's exactly what it is.

Speaker 2 (08:10):
Spell that.

Speaker 1 (08:12):
Black cock. And so it's funny. We go out there
to hang out and the pets were welcome. They're like, yeah,
bring your pet out. You know, we had Tilly was
We're like, hey, we'll bring Tilly, and so Tilly hung
out with us inside, you know what I mean, it
was like cold out there. They're like, no, she comes inside.

Speaker 2 (08:31):
That's pretty much every brewery these days.

Speaker 1 (08:34):
All the way indoors, closed doors. Yeah yeah. I was like,
holy crap. And so I was like, that's that's cool.
And so we went out there. They had a quarter
pipe out back for skating and stuff like that. There's
some fires going. Almost dropped in damn there did bro.
I was like, I was gonna, you know what, I
think I need to show Lizzie what I used to be.

Speaker 2 (08:53):
Just kind of let me let you know who you're
married to here, Lizzy, let me let me just show you.

Speaker 1 (08:58):
Yeah, and but I'll tell you the one downside. So
we go there and I'm like, let me start knocking.
Let's let's start knocking out some some local beers. And
the bartenders were great, right, unbelievably hot. Anyways, I was like,
I want to touch the HEIMI and so I was
looking at the beers. I go, wait, hold on, you
don't have any of your beers here. She goes, yeah, no,

(09:20):
we don't have any right now. It was like all
they had on tap was every other brewery's beers. They
had none of their own. And I was like, okay, well,
that's cool. I guess I don't know, so I did.
I had a bunch of cool New Mexico beers from
other places around New Mexico. I was like, all cool,
and we went to bro except for the one I
was at. I never got my hands on a black

(09:42):
Cock Brewing beer, never got my hands on it. So
but uh, it was really good.

Speaker 2 (09:49):
So we went to This was years ago when Liz's
dad passed away and we went out to a and
m we we went out there because he was part
of the Aggie Muster, which is a big deal, right
if you're a part of that where they just honor
everyone who went there and passed away. And so we're
at just outside her hotel is like a pizza place,

(10:10):
a pizza beer place, right, and they've got forty beers
on tap. And I go, hey, uh, what what do
you recommend? I always ask, you know, what do you recommend?

Speaker 1 (10:23):
A yard over there?

Speaker 2 (10:25):
Why did she recommend to me a false idle beer? What?
I think it was the Viva Los for Caros. She goes, oh,
we got this great Mexican beer, this a Viva Los
fa Caros. I go for false sidle brow and she
goes yeah. I go, Yeah, that's a block away from
my house. What else you got? Yeah?

Speaker 1 (10:43):
Try again, Jesus god, what the hell? Try again? Try again.
I've had it. I've had it.

Speaker 2 (10:54):
I go, yeah, I go, that's a block away from
my house. Try again. I guarantee you. I have some
in my fridge right now.

Speaker 1 (11:01):
Like, let's why are they the worst at recommending beers?
I don't understand.

Speaker 2 (11:05):
Well, they're not. I mean, that's a really good beer.

Speaker 1 (11:08):
It's good, but they're the worst at recommending beers.

Speaker 2 (11:11):
But the odds that she's she recommends a beer that's
a block away from my house right like and two
hundred miles away. We're nowhere close to Northwark Hills right now.
It's like she's like, yeah, I really like this Viva
little for carols from a false side of brower. She goes, yeah,
you heard of it. I go, I'm a block away.

Speaker 1 (11:31):
Try again, Like, come on.

Speaker 2 (11:34):
God, I can't get away.

Speaker 1 (11:37):
So so damn good.

Speaker 2 (11:39):
Well, And I think there was one time when I
went to, Ah, I'm drawing a blank where it was,
but it's like an hour and a half away or
something like that, and they had was a brewery and
they had a false idol. No, it wasn't. When I
went to Waco, it was false yes, which is all false.
I went to a brewery there and I'm looking at

(12:00):
and they've got like six or seven beers from other breweries,
and I look up there and I'll be damned if
there's not a false idle beer there. And I'm like,
some of them there everyone.

Speaker 1 (12:07):
I'll tell you what though, if they if they got
they got the culls from the pills, and they got
the pills, they're on. All right, that's fine. I'm in.
I'm in.

Speaker 2 (12:16):
Let's go, let me off real quick.

Speaker 1 (12:21):
I'm not going to finish mine. But yeah, it's a
it's got a lot going on, and it's pretty good,
quite hoppy, quite fruity too. It's a nice little combination.

Speaker 2 (12:30):
And with it being almost a year old, not going
to give it a score. When we do these older beers,
we don't give them scores, but I will give it
the thumbs up. I really enjoyed, especially for almost being
a year old. It's really delicious. I would love to
have this fresh just to see kind of how it compares. Uh,
But I really enjoyed.

Speaker 1 (12:49):
I think it's delicious.

Speaker 2 (12:51):
Mass Ascension. I pa ex Novo Brewing, Go and get
you some. Let us know what you think.

Speaker 1 (12:57):
You know what about you you can get He's at allsups.
I'm pretty sure that's what I got where I got
it from. So if you get into New Mexico, just
all allsops, I think you can get in there. So
I think that's where I picked it up, because I
did grab a three or four different four packs six
packs at that gas station that was in Riodoso. Individuals
or no four packs, four and sixes. Yeah, I didn't

(13:19):
see any solos. You know me, I would have loaded
up with a ton of solos.

Speaker 2 (13:23):
But oh yeah, I'm gonna get one of everything. I
treated him like Pokemon. I gotta catch them all.

Speaker 1 (13:27):
Oh, reasonably priced too. These weren't crazy high. They were
like ten bucks, you know what I mean. Yeah, I was.
I was pretty excited.

Speaker 2 (13:34):
I was like, oh, I'll say Texas craft beer beer
brewers are very proud of their beers. And I've been
another place and I'm like, you know what, you guys,
you guys, get me, you guys, get me. I'm gonna
buy more. I'm gonna buy more. I'll spend more if
it's reasonably priced. Yeah, yeah, versus like, Oh, you're gonna
charge me twenty five dollars for a four pack, I'll

(13:56):
buy one. But if you're gonna charge me sixteen bucks
for a four pack, I'll buy five. It's it's just
the way it is. I'm gonna spend a lot more
if it's cheaper.

Speaker 1 (14:06):
Yeah. Really enjoying it though. I love the color, love
the smell, the perfect perfect carbonation. After after a year,
I do like the combination of the fruitiness and the happiness. Uh.
Neither one is overbearing, Like it's not too coppy, but
it's like the fruit I like the fruit inness too
more citrusy. I guess if you want to call it that.
The hops they use, it's just perfect. The combo I
think work perfectly for this.

Speaker 2 (14:28):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (14:28):
And the Cannart's awesome, So big thumbs up for me.

Speaker 2 (14:30):
Yeah, go and get you some. Have you had this before?
Let us know, have you had this with aliens in Roswell,
New Mexico. Let us know. Well, if you've drank this
beer with aliens in Roswell, New Mexico, we'll have you
on the show. So just hit us up and let
us know, and let's let's hash it out. You know,
let's let's talk about it. But as always, guys, I'm allen.

(14:51):
We'll talk to you later. Deuces,
