Speaker 1 (00:00):
What's going on in your life is not permanent. Everything
is going to change. So there's two things you can
do with change.
Speaker 2 (00:08):
You can react to it or you can participate in it.
Speaker 1 (00:11):
It's gonna change anyway.
Speaker 3 (00:14):
Superheroes Story John John Jassy.
Speaker 4 (00:33):
I'm not the father.
Speaker 2 (00:34):
So hello everybody, and welcome to Superheroes. I'm your host,
Dave and John and Don and yes, boys and girls,
there's a lot going on in the world. A Superheroes Speak.
You might want to pull your your handkerchiefs out for
this one before before we do anything else. John, you
(00:55):
have an announcement?
Speaker 4 (00:56):
Yeah after Okay.
Speaker 5 (00:58):
Sorry, I had to turn Spider Man must be on
for this moments.
Speaker 4 (01:02):
I must speak in front of this sacred Spider Man mask. Yes,
thanks Don. Yeah, I am. After twelve years, I will
be leaving the podcast after Sometimes you have something that
happens in your life that kind of puts everything into perspective.
And there's a few things that I am going to
(01:22):
attempt to do in my life now after my mom
passed away, I've decided to make ifew changes. So I've
been here since the beginning date with Dave. It was me,
Dave and Ben that started this twelve years ago at
a company that no longer exists because they're brought up
by Gannett, and then chewed and spit out yes, yeah, yeah.
(01:44):
Do you want to go over like how this started?
Speaker 5 (01:46):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (01:47):
Actually, I said some time at the end of the
show to talk about that kind of stuff, but I
wanted to. I didn't want to bury the lead. I
wanted everyone to know. That was like the focus tonight
or saying goodbye to John eighty said he was going
to join us, but he's not here, so I don't
know what happened with that, But but that's all right.
Speaker 4 (02:06):
He's got a family, he's had, he's got all his
own things, he's been he said the reason why he
had to.
Speaker 2 (02:10):
Go said he was going to try to be here.
So I don't know, but that's not a big deal.
If he comes in, we'll pop them on like we
always do. He has a history of running late. But
other than that, sad news. What how is everyone doing?
Don How are you? How are you taking this? Is?
What are your thoughts right now?
Speaker 5 (02:29):
My thoughts right now is really it's really crazy to
think that for me, seven years or so ago, I
spent two hours in my car commuting to Cleveland and
back each day worked in an office, so finding podcasts
that I enjoyed was pretty important, both for my commute
and just working in general. And I came across Superhero
(02:50):
Speak and instantly felt like, oh, okay, these guys are
like on my same wavelength age group, Like this is
like these they actually fucking know what they're talking about,
which was important to me. They've actually lived the shit
they're just not jumping on now that it's a cinematic universe,
and hey with myself. Although honestly, after that thought, my
(03:13):
other thought was, I guess the average age of podcast
is going down, so that's plus in our metrics. But no,
I just remember liking it, and I really liking the
Dave John and JD version of Superhero Speak. And now
here I am on the show permanently because JD's exit justifiably,
and then now John not being here, it's I just
(03:34):
feel I have really big shoes to fill and just
really hope I can at least be part of something
that makes you proud. John. So it's been a pleasure
and I'll talk more later, but that's my initial thoughts.
Speaker 4 (03:45):
It was I'm glad you joined I really am. Your
perspective is a little different from ours, which is good
for a podcast. We need different perspectives in order first
to be able to have something to talk about, but
also to keep each other honest really and to broaden
our horizons. Understand, I didn't think I could see the
accolyte through anyone's eyes that would make it look any good.
(04:08):
But I understand more now about because I'm not I'm
more of a trekkie than I am a Star Wars fan,
but I understand I see a lot more about the
Star Wars fandom than I did before, and that's because
of you.
Speaker 5 (04:24):
So well good, I've done my job. But to your
point here, Kissan, Hello fellas, Welcome back, John. I'm glad
we have a sane one in the room, obviously per
our announcement just now. So the sane one's leaving so
we'll all enjoy that.
Speaker 2 (04:38):
Yes, moving.
Speaker 4 (04:40):
Pastor freak.
Speaker 1 (04:42):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (04:42):
I talked a little bit about twelve years ago, and
it actually, in all honesty, it started out Ben and
I would talk all the time about comic books, and
we were both big podcast fans, and we kept saying, oh,
we should do a podcast, we should do a podcast.
We're like, yeah, but we need a like a third
to round it out. And this way the original idea.
(05:04):
I don't know if you remember this, John, The original
idea is we kept asking people to come in so
like we could switch people out so people didn't have
to feel obligated to do it everywhere. And that died
fairly quickly.
Speaker 4 (05:15):
Yeah, But and that was also like at the beginning
of Wheredom was just starting to enter the standard lexicon
of of let's call in the straits. Yeah, it's just
it just it was just starting to grow into pop culture.
Before that, it was a niche just like anime or
(05:35):
anything else geeked, which just yeah, it was marveled that
was making that breakthrough. But only it only started And
if I harber correctly, we were just we would just
pass each other in the hall and start talking exactly.
Speaker 2 (05:47):
And that's when I did say to Ben, I think
John was the good third, and I started talking to
you about it, and then I I'll never forget. We
grabbed we had a cell phone and we went into
a meeting. We put the phone on the tab and
we just started talking about Man of Steel. And this
was before the movie came out. This was just like
the hype had started about that movie and okay.
Speaker 4 (06:09):
Okay, you're skipping a whole bunch. We were working at
place cloud point role this doesn't exist anymore. I was
a contractor there. Dave mentioned, we keep talking about all
this stuff, why don't we record it? Next thing? I know,
at the end of the day, we were requisitioning conference
rooms and he was sticking a microphone in front of
me and me the introvert eight O d add OCD
(06:32):
guy who was terrified of speaking in front of people.
It's like, it's like I was like, what, like, oh, John,
by the way, we have a guest on Oh God.
Speaker 2 (06:42):
We didn't know if it was We didn't know if
it was gonna go anywhere, if it was gonna like no,
because let's be honest, twelve years is a badge of honor.
Most podcasts fail within the first that's all.
Speaker 4 (06:54):
We've been our claimed the thing. We just outlasted it.
Speaker 5 (06:56):
That was it pretty much, and that's turning the cockroach
and us our strength as well.
Speaker 2 (07:02):
Yeah, I can't deny that, not at all. Yeah, you
weren't here last week, John, How are things with you?
You lost power with the crazy weather and how long
did you take your power back?
Speaker 4 (07:13):
I just love living in the sticks because we lost
power until until midnight. That Sunday night we lost power.
I bring out my generator and I realized, oh, I
emptied all the gas cans because I didn't want the gas.
I didn't want to wait until it turned into varnish.
So I had to turn the generator on hope that
(07:34):
it lasts long enough for me to go out fill
my other gas cans, bring it back because it looked
like it was going for long term. Power comes out,
it comes back on at midnight, and then the next day,
six thirty, I'm gang ready to start working. Power goes
out again for another couple hours.
Speaker 2 (07:50):
I just I want on a full tank, like how long.
Speaker 4 (07:55):
On a full tank? The generator I have now lasts
about eight or nine hours, which means that I have
to constantly go out and get more gas. I'm hoping
to get a bigger one with my I was going
to get a bigger one with my tax return this year,
but apparently I may not get it for months now
for certain reason.
Speaker 2 (08:12):
I oh, no, there was no Lord.
Speaker 4 (08:14):
Of the Flies, Caissan. It was actually when the power
goes out for long enough all my neighbors start stopping
by to store stuff in my fridge because my generator.
Speaker 2 (08:24):
That's the important stuff during a power out.
Speaker 4 (08:26):
It So, yeah, I guess do you have to flip
side of that coin?
Speaker 5 (08:31):
John? Is if apocalypse happens, be wary because your generator
will become also valuable. What was that, John?
Speaker 1 (08:37):
Oh?
Speaker 4 (08:37):
No, I was gonna I was gonna say, I guess
you don't have to deal with too much power things.
But if the apocalypse happens, I'm going to live with
the Amish because they can grow food without power and
they're right down the streets. I'll work a field in
the apocalypse, So I know.
Speaker 2 (08:52):
I would be like, hey, someone, where's my food delivery?
I do this?
Speaker 5 (09:01):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (09:02):
Why his door dash not working? What's going on here? Casantas? Wait,
you're not homish, big Reviewal in his final episode. Yeah,
he's not Casan.
Speaker 4 (09:12):
You haven't realized that I'm geekish all this time.
Speaker 5 (09:14):
Oh he's just like dhite Shrewd. He just lives on
a farm mountain. Amazing.
Speaker 4 (09:20):
Yeah, I got it, all right.
Speaker 2 (09:23):
Let's I was curious you weren't here last week, John,
So two things. Let's one thing we keep talking about
have you finished watching Friendly Neighborhood Spider Man.
Speaker 4 (09:34):
Oh yeah, oh yes it is.
Speaker 2 (09:36):
So I'm halfway through the last episode, but I'm far
enough to know I was proven right time travel, I said.
I Originally I said, oh, that's going to be the symbio,
and but somehow doctor Strange goes back in time with him.
Speaker 4 (09:51):
And that's where we should mention spoilers before you go around.
Speaker 2 (09:56):
Okay, spoilers spoilers for Friendly name Hit Spider Man. People
haven't watched it. But yeah, so it was time travel,
but it ends up being a paradox because they create
that Spider from studying Spider Man's DNA, which is what
spites him that gets his power.
Speaker 4 (10:14):
Now, for those of you who don't know, that's called
a bootstrap pop paradox, meaning that one event creates the
other event, and that event creates the other event, which
means that like at that point, the Spider DNA that
gave Peter his powers just always existed in this time
loop paradox. So yeah, it's it is death. And what's funny,
(10:36):
since we're going to spoilers when he's talking to Strange
in the end and they're getting a little philosophical and Peter.
Sometimes things just seem to want to happen, and sometimes
when they happen to the things that make them happen
make sense, and sometimes they don't. And all I'm thinking
to myself is that's the writers telling you, Hey, if
you think this explanation for him getting his power as bogus,
(10:57):
screw you.
Speaker 2 (10:59):
It's just pretty much your face.
Speaker 4 (11:01):
Man. We don't care what you think that we know.
It's what you got. It's what you're getting from us.
Speaker 2 (11:06):
Oh my god, Yeah, I don't know.
Speaker 4 (11:09):
It is really funny. But did you check out the
Chekhov's arsenal at the end too?
Speaker 2 (11:15):
Again, I'm halfway through the episode, so I didn't get
to see that last bit, but I saw enough to know, Okay,
this is where we're going with this.
Speaker 4 (11:22):
Oh no, it's where they're going. But they set up
a whole bunch of other checkofs gone so you'll get
to them.
Speaker 2 (11:27):
Yeah. Yeah, I like this. So this is going to
be your new podcast there, John the Trek Anime and
d or the Tad podcast ONAD.
Speaker 1 (11:37):
You're a Tad?
Speaker 4 (11:38):
Huh.
Speaker 2 (11:40):
I didn't watch it.
Speaker 5 (11:43):
I can't really say that I enjoyed it because it
really brought to light why we're going to probably continually
struggle with the way the comic properties are handled, particularly
with them they're telling bo to mail, Hey, you need
to put your comic collector brain away and just create
new shit. And no, that's not the message that higher
(12:05):
up should be giving showrunners and directors and writers.
Speaker 2 (12:09):
That is the deep equivalent of we need a writer
for this movie. And Kevin Smith goes, you got a
bunch of writers over there at the DC offices and
Warner Brothers, Oh no, they write comics, we can write movies.
Speaker 4 (12:20):
And we found out how well that worked.
Speaker 2 (12:22):
Yeah. Yeah, But anyway, that was going on on a
tangent again, what did you think of finale there? Don
Did you get to watch it?
Speaker 5 (12:30):
Yeah? I did, and yeah, I'm definitely still trying to
wrap my head around that time. Paradox it's what happened
first at Chicken or the Egg.
Speaker 4 (12:38):
Yeah, that's why it's called paradox.
Speaker 5 (12:41):
Yeah, so it's interesting though. I love the show. I
particularly love the animation and the way they present it
is a comic book. I really like it and it's
very interesting so far, and the finale was good. The
only thing is I did they come out with a
bunch of episodes all at once, or did I somehow
miss that, like I thought they were like to everyone, okay, okay,
(13:02):
because I some hung out behind and I thought, oh,
maybe because they already announced the season three that there's
a boom drop it. But yeah, they're still there. They're
laying a lot of groundwork that's gonna pay off, and
I'm just excited to watch it and pay attention and
see how it unfolds. I think it's a very Spider
Man is so I'm liking it a lot. Now they're
gonna be wrong. There's nitpicks again. If you're the type
(13:23):
of person that doesn't like race swapped characters or gender
swapped character, you're gonna do your complaining. My only complaint
is that they're obviously going with the young Aunt May,
which sets an overall trend in the Marvel universe so far.
Speaker 4 (13:38):
But everybody loves the young Aunt Matty ant May, which
absolutely I'm here for that, But this one looks like
China from the WWE.
Speaker 2 (13:48):
My comment on gender swap race swap stuff, it's like
when you're doing a show like this and you're definitely
making your own thing again, creating, making Spider Man's or
in a bootstrap paradox is definitely its own thing. Like, then,
do whatever you want with the characters, that's fine, But
if you're trying to tell a true to the comic
book origin and you start spopping stuff out, it's I
(14:10):
think that's when you lose me. It's either way.
Speaker 5 (14:12):
What is refreshing though, that with this paradox, they've at
least intrinsically linked Spider Man with Venom, which was my
big complaint about the Venom fucking trilogy that's out there,
So I appreciate that, Yeah, making sure that happened.
Speaker 2 (14:28):
Hey, I wasn't totally on board at first, but by
the time I got to the end, I really liked
the show. I like that it's very different, and it's
what allowed me to like it. I think if they
were doing things where they were trying to be the
same and yet different, I would have been like, eh,
But they're pulling from the comics, they're pulling from the MCU,
and they're pulling from their own ideas and it works.
(14:49):
But it goes with the Boa Domo thing where it's
I don't know. Again, they did stay true to some aspects,
which makes it good, but if they're going to come
back and say just it's gonna to be the X
Men and name only, I think that's gonna hurt them in.
And then the other question I had for you, John,
you weren't here last week and we talked about this
and this is your thing one hundred percent. Did you
(15:11):
see the How to Train Your Dragon trailer? And what
did you think? Oh?
Speaker 4 (15:15):
Wow, look, this is nothing but a cash crop.
Speaker 2 (15:18):
That is what Don said. It felt like a cash crab.
Speaker 4 (15:21):
Yeah, yeah, there's Look, there are certain like Mulan is
one of those shows that was amazing as an animated movie. Yeah,
when they tried to do the live action, they changed
a few things and made her character pretty much worth like, oh,
she's always been special. It wasn't what she did that
(15:43):
made her special, it was that she was always special. Yeah,
she was always a karate expert. Blah blah blah. This.
I don't know that they can change anything, but even so,
you're not going to get the same emotional hits as
the original actors gave you. And they the character designs,
(16:03):
the situations that they do not translate to live action.
And I am tired of all these, Like Don said,
cash grabs. I'm tired of that. This is and maybe
I'm slightly biased, because How to Train Your Dragon is
literally my favorite movie of all time. I just it
has everything that I love. It's a well it's well written,
(16:24):
the characters are amazing, and you feel for every single
one of them. They're all original. And then at the end,
he doesn't win because he got a special power powered
up or some plot contrivance. He won because he's a
smart character and used his brain right.
Speaker 2 (16:41):
And the bond between Yes and Hiccup is like really
well written in that movie.
Speaker 4 (16:47):
Yeah, and we all know that when you're talking a
CGI character, trying to make a bond between a human
and a CGI character is gonna be hard. I just
I just wish they'd stop with these cash grabs. You can't.
You're not going to improve on the original. They still
won't sell or show the original in the original three D,
and that is literally one How To Train Your Dragon
(17:08):
in three D was one of the best three D
movies I've ever seen. In fact, it is the best
movie in three D I've ever seen, because they did
not use three D like it in What was Not
that I grew in the Minions was The Despicable Me.
Despicable Me used three D, but they made fun of it,
especially in the end credits with the minions poking stuff
(17:30):
out at you and all that, and they're making fun
of it. But it was done. But it was done well.
The three D was done well. How to Train Dragon?
Use three D for what it was meant to give
you additional perspective on the action that was happening and
to make that more emotionally impactful. I just I cannot
say enough about this movie, including the fact that Zimmer
(17:50):
didn't write any of the score. Damn it, it was all
John Powell.
Speaker 1 (17:54):
I was.
Speaker 4 (17:54):
I still love his work.
Speaker 2 (17:56):
So we can't get through one episode without you mentioning.
Speaker 4 (18:00):
Hey, I gotta get my shot in the last episode.
So yeah, I just yeah, I just don Would you
think like you say, it was a cash crab.
Speaker 5 (18:08):
Well, because I thought it looked great, but I didn't
think it offered anything different than what they had already
given us any animated version. My big question is what
do they believe they're gaining by bringing it to live action,
other than they're specifically going after the people that don't
pay attention to anything animated, And like you said, like
I could see them taking an animated property and bringing
(18:31):
it live action because they want to get more emotion
and more emoting from the characters and whatnot. Okay, I
don't feel that's happening.
Speaker 4 (18:40):
Yeah, besides Rochelle, the guy who did Hiccup's voice. That voice,
you're not going to get past that voice when it's
played by somebody different. You're just not all right.
Speaker 2 (18:52):
Interesting. I'm a little shocked. I thought you would be
excited for them.
Speaker 5 (18:55):
Hey, I did too. I thought he would. Yeah, I
thought he would definitely be in to it because it
is a dull surprise introduced it. Yeah, it is a
chance to introduce its new generation. But that's it. You
can I still do that with with with the original.
Speaker 4 (19:11):
Casan no, Cassan, No, stop saying things like that and
trying to make them real. That's horror. That's horrendous. Now
I'm gonna need some mindset. Thank you, all right?
Speaker 2 (19:23):
That that wrapped it up, as you know what, As
a gift for you on your final episode, John, I'm
not going to do a inappropriate icular the catch. There
is no catch. There is not a cat. So what

special person. So here we go.
Speaker 7 (22:02):
If it's hey, Superhero Speak, it's Beard Yac the Beard
of Knowledge aka Ben. It's been a while since I
brought my dulcet tones to this podcast, but some events
merit dusting off one's cape. Twelve years is a long time,
and this show has had a lot of twists and
turns in that time. There have been a lot of
changes in the show, in the media, and in the world.
(22:22):
But you, John, you are a rock. You've been said
fast and consistent, which made you the ideal chief DC apologist.
Perhaps the real reason you're taking about now is because
soon you may not need to apologize for them.
Speaker 2 (22:36):
With James Gunn at.
Speaker 7 (22:37):
The Helm anyway, as usual, I'm getting off topic. I'm
here today, John in voiceedly to celebrate your tenure on
this show. Over the years, We've been to so many conventions,
interviewed so many creators, dealt with so many technically, and
eaten so much Brazilian steak, and through it all, you
have been a clarion voice time and time again, as
(22:58):
a comic officionado, as a critic of pop culture, and
as a discerning brownie. And your contributions will be missed.
I know we all wish you the best on whatever
comes next, be it writing the next great novel, reading
some really great novels, or just dusting off your collection
of novels. I will miss your wit and wisdom in
this forum, and I hope whoever gets it instead appreciates
(23:20):
it as much as we did, Good luck, godspeed, and
as always, don't let your cape get caught in the door.
Speaker 4 (23:26):
Man. I haven't heard from Ben and a long time.
Speaker 2 (23:30):
Yeah, I reached out to him. He was going to
come along but said he couldn't make it. So you
recorded that message.
Speaker 4 (23:36):
Damn.
Speaker 5 (23:37):
I don't know, Ben, but I feel we're going to
disappoint you with a certain bit of sanity that's not
going to be here anymore.
Speaker 4 (23:46):
Replaced Ben was the beard of knowledge. Yes, yeah, I
should have brought my alcohol.
Speaker 2 (23:51):
Wait, you're not drinking.
Speaker 4 (23:52):
I'm already I've had a paraef. I am fine.
Speaker 2 (23:57):
Well, a little bit of news, a little bit of news,
we get, we get, you get cut punch and I'm
gonna complain because we talked about Friendly Spider Man, and
it has been revealed that the next years season will
focus heavily on Gwen's Stacy and Spider Gwen.
Speaker 4 (24:15):
Oh, Dave, your favorite topics.
Speaker 2 (24:18):
I might not watch the next season.
Speaker 5 (24:20):
We'll see that's you're gonna walk.
Speaker 2 (24:23):
I don't know what do you think? This is such
a different take on Spider Man that I don't know
how they're gonna do it at this and have the
same kind of emotional punch that they did in the
else World story that introduced her. I'm sorry, what if
story that interests? But I know, what do you think?
Don Do you think it's a good choice. Do you
think they should do it or should they hold off?
Speaker 5 (24:43):
No? I don't think they should hold off because Spider
Gwyn is popular amongst the children. Do I care about
Spider Gwen? I don't at all. I don't like that.
I don't like gwen Pool, Spider Gwen, none of that
bullshit my boomer self actually I'm gen x. But anyway,
ow ever, I really like the show. And that's even
(25:05):
after the fact that fifty it is e W bullshit
that I don't care about. But the other half is
fucking awesome. So whatever whatever grows Spider went in there,
Who gives a shit? That's how I feel about it.
I know I don't want it, I don't care about it,
but it's probably not going to prevent me from really liking.
Speaker 2 (25:22):
There's a I didn't include the article because I only
did a few things, But there is a gwen Pool
New gwen Pool comic coming out where it's a dark
version of Gwenpool. Something you're not going to read that one.
How about you, John, You're gonna just make you more
excited for season two, less excited or about this.
Speaker 4 (25:41):
I'm excited for literally all of it. Like I said,
there's a checkofs Arsenal at the end of the last episode.
There is plenty of stuff that they can riff on.
I'm actually interested to see where this goes, mostly because
they've huge so close to the MCU timeline and they
haven't gotten to Banos, and I'm wondering if true the
(26:03):
diverged timeline will now either cause that to not happen
or if they'll actually address it. But yeah, like it's funny,
like the Superman movie, the new one, they are They've
introduced Spider Man into an already existing, living, and breathing
Marvel universe, so all these other things are going on
(26:25):
in the background that we're already in motion, and now
we get to see Peter just pinging off of all
of these plots and everything that are already going on
and how he affects them. So yeah, I'm gonna watch it.
And besides, I don't have your guys aversion to Spider Gwen.
I don't mind her at all. I think she's a
cool character.
Speaker 2 (26:45):
I don't know. Yeah, Don's right, I'm gonna watch since two.
I did enjoy this season, and yeah, the kids like her.
He's a popular character. That's why they used during the
Spider Verse movies.
Speaker 5 (26:57):
Yeah, a lot of costumes. The Halloween time.
Speaker 2 (27:00):
I'm just more sure.
Speaker 4 (27:01):
God, just for that. I'm going to hire a choir
for Halloween to go up to Dave's house all dressed
in Spider question.
Speaker 2 (27:11):
I'm just curious how they're going to do it because
there's no relationship there. They didn't have Wen Stacy in
season one where that was the love interest and then
have her become Spider Gwen like that would have been
an interesting take on it, where now it's like they're
just going to bring her in and boom, shall be
a female Spider Man in the universe.
Speaker 5 (27:28):
Well, he's already buddy with Doctor Strange. That's gonna be
his multiversal link.
Speaker 2 (27:34):
Yeah, but like they have a relationship in the comics,
they've always had a and in the movie, so Peter
and Doctor Strain. So we'll see.
Speaker 5 (27:42):
But now Peter has this relationship with the oh Eco.
Speaker 2 (27:46):
Yeah, it's in the email that I sent, as I
always do.
Speaker 5 (27:51):
Sorry, Dan, No, that's Okay, an Eco character is obviously
some sort of witch. And I wonder if the mother
that she said, oh I can't make if they get
to see my mother or whatever paraphrasing comment is not
the character that we saw in Agatha all along.
Speaker 2 (28:06):
That's an interesting take.
Speaker 4 (28:08):
He says, you can get an email and by the way,
while you're working on that our in our comments Sour
Grapes a Tim Jones, Tim, I you may miss me,
but I'm not going to miss you because I will
be going to Sour grapescomic dot com every week to
check out your your Sour Grapes comic.
Speaker 2 (28:27):
Since we haven't been doing social media, man this, we
have not had any Tim Jones jokes lately. I know,
but that's part of what I've been talking about. There
are going to be some changes and for a little
while there will be a rotating third seat, and I'm
pretty sure Tim will be filling in a couple of
times in that third seat.
Speaker 5 (28:47):
Oh yeah, it's gladatorial combat for John's job.
Speaker 2 (28:51):
Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, that is definitely where.
Speaker 4 (28:53):
They the Greatest Geek Win.
Speaker 5 (28:57):
Will be held at New York Comic cod.
Speaker 2 (28:59):
The Great Geek is leaving the show. Oh my god,
look who's here?
Speaker 4 (29:04):
Oh hello, I'm being haunted by the ghosts of geek past.
You calling it geek you that's that's right. He does
do was it wrestling? So I should watch my mouth and.
Speaker 1 (29:21):
That's right, watch your mouth, that's right. Oh, I got
my head now, I got my head set working. Hey,
heard and nasty you were hanging it up and retiring. Yeah, exactly,
I get it. I'm I dude, No one gets that.
And having to take care of life when life gets
too far.
Speaker 4 (29:38):
Yeah, pretty much.
Speaker 2 (29:40):
Yeah, and you're shocked he didn't leave sooner. We know
John would take sabbaticals.
Speaker 5 (29:43):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (29:44):
And I was on the show for seven years and
there was times that job would just be like, hey, hey, Cassan,
Hey great, see you again too. Yeah, man, miss I
missed talking with you guys every week.
Speaker 4 (29:52):
We miss you too.
Speaker 5 (29:53):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (29:54):
I appreciate. I appreciate that life is complicated, especially with
fucking grad school. Gott I hate do. I thought it
might be when I saw Dave's post, because Dave told
me you were leaving and I saw that that's all
bost I'm like, Dan, did Dave pull the plug on
the whole show? So you got me. My mouth is open.
Speaker 2 (30:09):
Now they're they're they're. Don and I have been talking
a lot, and there's actually gonna be a superhero two point. Oh,
I'm going to talk about that at the end of
the show. So yeah, change some stuff up. It'dal Don's fault.
Speaker 5 (30:24):
Exactly.
Speaker 2 (30:25):
Randy says, more.
Speaker 1 (30:26):
Feet picks, not surprising. I can show you my feet
if you want.
Speaker 4 (30:31):
Man, this is my last, so just get mine up
here too.
Speaker 1 (30:36):
Randy, be careful what you wish for. You just might
get it.
Speaker 6 (30:39):
You'll notice that that's a true geek. I've got different
colors on him.
Speaker 1 (30:43):
I'm going to school for career technical education so I
get paid more as a graphic design and video player,
and I hate every minute of it. It's been the
bane of my existence, saying I will take my socks
off if you give Dave a super chest. Let's be real.
Let's be real. This guy's coming off, but it's gonna
cost you five bucks to put it back. I love
(31:09):
I should take off my socks for real. Speak and
thinks that's creepy.
Speaker 4 (31:14):
Right, you should have waited. We should have put this
on wiki feed.
Speaker 2 (31:17):
Oh my god, I'm gonna miss that real quick. Have
you been, JD. We haven't seen you in a while.
Speaker 1 (31:23):
Busy man, busy. Our wrestling season just wrapped up for
both the high school kids and the little kids. So
I get a nice little month reprieve before see thron
kill gets it. Bring that super chat money, Yeah, because
I'm on the MIC a couple hours. An hour and
a half will be live of the MIC and JD
Show Live on you every Sunday Central time. You get
those super chats for those those nice days. So I'm
going to offer that by Patreon and say I will
(31:44):
take off my socks for you guys. No, it's just busy.
Life is because you've grad school, regular work, coaching. It's
a little much, right. I haven't Patreon, so it sucks.
Speaker 2 (31:54):
How's your team doing? You got how your guys doing?
Speaker 1 (31:57):
Terrible? Worst sure in a decade. It's been misery. It's
been absoluteary this year. But life at a public school.
Some years you're really up, some years you're down. So
next year we start over again and we go to work.
My son had a really good year in the kid's
division this year, so I'm really proud of We can
build off that in the future, and it's all good.
He's in third grade now, so he's getting older. You
guys remember when he was a baby and oh yeah, yeah, so.
Speaker 5 (32:21):
Have you seen Andy take like a massive duplex?
Speaker 1 (32:24):
Oh? Fuck?
Speaker 5 (32:24):
Does that happened to me? And my kid? He no
longer wrestles because of it.
Speaker 1 (32:29):
About three weeks two weeks ago, we were at a
tournament and he got he's wrestling a really good kid.
He's wrestling a couple times. Here, he's wrestling a good match.
And this kid double legged it and took about four
steps and these are eight year olds, mind you, and
just swung his legs out and he dropped head first
into the mat and I went ape ship and I
(32:49):
was like, he got slammed. Yeah, And I was given
the option. I was given the option to take a disqualification.
But I knew the kid didn't do it on purpose,
but the greedy dad and me wanted it. So I
looked at my head coach, who was one of my
former pupils, like I'm mentoring our head coach along, and
I said, you make the decision. I'm way too al
right now, Yeah, he said, he said, we wrestling. We
(33:11):
did the right thing. But the greedy danity regrets it.
So it was the right thing, and it's it sucks.
It sucks watching remember that has yeah the shield, Remember
that's her. You got dropped on your dome? Feed them?
Did you? It works?
Speaker 5 (33:28):
No, great advice, Cassan.
Speaker 1 (33:31):
Great, Oh yeah, we'll get there.
Speaker 2 (33:37):
I think it means I think he means. I think
it means your high school team that you're you're coaching,
not the not your son. At least I hope that's
what Casan means.
Speaker 1 (33:46):
Waste of money. I just it was a rough year.
The kids tried real hard. Some years everything clicks, in
some years nothing.
Speaker 2 (33:55):
I have a question, and I think I know the answer,
knowing your past with animated Shoe. Have you been watching
Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider Man?
Speaker 1 (34:02):
It's out?
Speaker 2 (34:04):
Okay, yeah, yeah, it just finished. Actually, oh dude, I
haven't watched the t show.
Speaker 1 (34:10):
And oh I'm not even watching wrestling, and I have
a wrestling podcast that I have to do in an hour.
So what do you do?
Speaker 2 (34:18):
Watch the highlights before you do the show.
Speaker 1 (34:21):
I read and what I'm supposed to be teaching. Like
when there's downtime, I'll go on Twitter look at what's
going on, or I'll catch up that way. No, I've
had zero time, and it's not fun.
Speaker 5 (34:30):
Not fun.
Speaker 2 (34:31):
No, No, John, how was it?
Speaker 1 (34:35):
How was it? Is it good?
Speaker 2 (34:37):
It's good?
Speaker 4 (34:38):
Watch it.
Speaker 2 (34:38):
It's very different. They borrow from the comics and the
MC Okay, it's a very different take on Spider Man though,
and it's interesting. I want to see I want you
to watch it, and if you do, tell me if
you catch in the first episode, you know where they're
going to go by the end of the first I.
Speaker 5 (34:55):
Like it a lot. I love the present absolutely. Yeah, no,
I do. I like it a lot. Is no like
I was telling them, it's fifty to fifty, it's fifty
per c w bullshit. But the other fifty percent is
fucking awesome. I'm here.
Speaker 1 (35:09):
I guess that's always Spider Man stuff.
Speaker 2 (35:11):
Yeah, that's claim the fame. Yeah, I'm pretty sure you.
I'm pretty sure you did not see Captain America four yet.
Speaker 1 (35:19):
No. I at that time, we actually tried, but we
couldn't get in. I was gonna take the kid last week.
I didn't. I couldn't at the time. Didn't work. So
I think maybe this Friday. What do you think? What
do you think? Was it good? Actually?
Speaker 2 (35:29):
Wait, John, you were supposed to be here. You didn't
tell us what you saw exactly.
Speaker 4 (35:33):
Yeah, John, it was I thought it was okay, Yeah,
that's better than Yeah, that's better than what it's coming
before it, you know what.
Speaker 5 (35:41):
I great job, Harrison Ford, Great job, Harrison. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (35:45):
It's like, it's not the best of the MCU. It's
not the worst, and it's not the worst. It's probably
the worst Captain American movie. But when you put it
up against three, yeah, really good.
Speaker 1 (35:55):
It's unfair.
Speaker 4 (35:56):
My My one big problem with it is the amount
of CG that they put into it, Like they don't
build practical sets anymore. Everything, Like the last couple of
scenes on the raft, like even the metal, even the
bars on the cells were c g ied in between
the actors. It's just it was starting to give me
a real shark boy and Lava girl. Seriously, it was.
Speaker 1 (36:17):
It was pretty bad.
Speaker 4 (36:18):
So I wish they would just build practical sets and
go back to real filmmaking this.
Speaker 1 (36:24):
I haven't talked to you guys in a few months.
What did you think of Love It?
Speaker 2 (36:28):
Yeah? I got curious, Crypto, what'd your son think?
Speaker 5 (36:34):
I'm just saying, I'll see, man, you're met, You're more
of a Marvel guy anyway.
Speaker 2 (36:39):
So that's why I was curious, like for me, Yeah,
what did your son think?
Speaker 1 (36:42):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (36:42):
He loved it.
Speaker 5 (36:43):
Yeah that's what.
Speaker 1 (36:46):
Was So he was like, Okay, I'm in like, because
I know you.
Speaker 5 (36:49):
Got one of those You've got one of those sons
that like chip off the old block where the apple
was thrown three hundred yards away from the tree.
Speaker 1 (36:58):
Whatever, there's a side to that.
Speaker 5 (37:00):
We have.
Speaker 1 (37:01):
We have it like it's almost like we tried too hard.
So no, but yeah, we're into it. We're gonna go
see Superman. I know. I just for me, it hit
on all those emotional the trailers hit on all those
emotional beats that I need Superman. And then you guys
have heard my I'm super excited. I feel like that's
the movie that I really want. And now that I'm
still gonna be around, I'll come and join you because
the summertime, I'll have a lot more free time when
(37:21):
you review Superman.
Speaker 2 (37:23):
Yeah, the calendar you were already on the list to
call to say you better come and join this show.
Speaker 1 (37:30):
I will be there for that, because God, I love
it so much.
Speaker 5 (37:34):
Isn't your dog doesn't your dog look like Crypto JD.
I swear I've seen pictures of your dog.
Speaker 2 (37:42):
I don't think he kind of really, I don't think
the trailer gave it all the way I know, I
don't think it gave anything away.
Speaker 1 (37:48):
Honestly, to those crypto listens a lot better than Okay, Okay, yeah,
I thought they thought Astro looked like I was gonna
put Astro on. I guess he looks like guns crypto. Oh,
if I just turned the camera, that would have been
a much better ride, which I was.
Speaker 2 (38:04):
Out of the mouth of babes.
Speaker 1 (38:06):
Yeah, exactly, Okay, where's the okay, Oh, the treat Okay,
I'll show Hey, wait, here's at Ye look like him?
Speaker 5 (38:13):
He does. Chunk here, but hey, you little bit Chunky
we called him.
Speaker 1 (38:19):
He's my chunky bud.
Speaker 2 (38:20):
He is.
Speaker 1 (38:21):
He's a broad worst. We like to him a broad worst.
Speaker 2 (38:23):
Now you need to learn to whistle like Superman does.
See will come save you.
Speaker 4 (38:27):
We'll ask for treats first.
Speaker 1 (38:29):
Chunk, we do call him, and he wanted.
Speaker 5 (38:34):
I wish I would have thought that, yeah, because it's
he does.
Speaker 1 (38:38):
He does have good he is. He's quite the reader
these days. You guys be proud of him. He actually
just finished Ram Stoker's Dracula.
Speaker 2 (38:44):
Oh awesome, Holy ship.
Speaker 1 (38:46):
How old is eight? I don't know how much of
it he got, but he read the whole thing. And
he was listening. He had his tournament today and the
lot of kids listening to music. He had his head
bos on. He was listening to Audible's Dracula.
Speaker 4 (38:58):
And I would have thought you start him on the stand.
Speaker 1 (39:01):
All right, Stephen king Stan gave me nightmares because the
pandemic stuff. I tried to listen to it. Oh yeah,
oh yeah, And he gave me the heat.
Speaker 5 (39:11):
And we need a podcast. Third, what do you do
on Sundays at eighth?
Speaker 1 (39:16):
Do you want to drop on superhero speak? That it's
not for No? Do you want to do you want
to work on superhero speaking? Will take my old job? No? Okay, good,
smart boy.
Speaker 5 (39:25):
I know that does smart.
Speaker 2 (39:28):
So he tried to We have we.
Speaker 1 (39:30):
Got our own little podcast called Deep. He talks about
the horror stuff that he's a little and he is
just creeping in the background, shirtless. He's done. Yeah, he's
got tons of he's it's bedtime. It's bedtime and for
some reason, my kids too cool to sleep in PJ
right now. So we sleep shirtless. I don't even sleep shirtless,
(39:51):
but my kid does for some reason.
Speaker 2 (39:53):
All right, so well we'll let you get down, but
we'll do one article with you because I think this
is a good one to talk about, because comic books,
come on, that's what we're all here for. It was
announced just recently there's going to be another Marvel DC
crossover this summer.
Speaker 1 (40:08):
Dude, my buddy Jeremy Headstone sent me to this the
other day and I said, this is a gag, right,
and he said, no, Marvel DC, you're going to do
another crossover. I don't know. I don't think.
Speaker 4 (40:21):
Uh, the demo just spoke.
Speaker 1 (40:26):
Eight year olds out there know what the Amma Gland
universe was. I'm very proud of my nerdom as a father.
I'm I am excited. I'm gonna get it because I
don't know what they're gonna do. But most those crossovers
were bad. But the ones that were good were a
lot of fun. I owe a lot of like special
memories of X Men, teen Titans that would Walt Simonson
on art, Chris Claremont writing that was all like good stuff.
(40:47):
I'm in. I'm in.
Speaker 2 (40:48):
I'm curious what don thinks because it's a multiverse crossover.
Speaker 1 (40:53):
Hates the multiverse in general, so he's probably out.
Speaker 5 (40:57):
Yeah. No, it's a bad gimmick for me. I don't
get or whatsoever. Don't get me wrong. They've already put
in canon the DC and Marvel exist in the same universe.
I get that. But I just when I think of
like the DC versus Marvel, what was it, the Justice
League versus the Avengers or whatever the fuck that was,
and Captain American Batman just say we should stop fighting
(41:18):
because this is useless. Let's just go do something else.
I'm like, I don't know, it's just give me, but
I do the Amalgam stuff. Hell, I've got I remember
Dark Law number one. I still got it back there somewhere.
The Amalgam stuff was fun, nice, nice, nice.
Speaker 4 (41:35):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (41:38):
No, you're a father, Yeah, but I say, I've done
worship for my kids. Yeah. So that's my thoughts.
Speaker 2 (41:44):
We'll say, al cos, what about you, John, I'll.
Speaker 4 (41:47):
Check it out as long as they don't do the
whole Here's Superman fighting the the Incredible Hulk and they're
trading blows.
Speaker 1 (41:54):
Now.
Speaker 4 (41:55):
The Hul can lift a mountain. Superman can bench press
a planet. There's no way like.
Speaker 1 (42:00):
The Crisis Superman could not the post Crisis and the
post Crisis Man could not in fact bench print.
Speaker 2 (42:06):
So I'm definitely with John though, like a lot of
the crossovers were just them fighting, and I really don't
want that. I want to see them have to team
up to save the multiverse. Let's see that.
Speaker 1 (42:18):
And that is why the X Men teen Titans, Yeah,
because it wasn't just them fighting, like they were teaming
up to fight the combined forces of Dark Sided.
Speaker 2 (42:26):
Yeah, that exactly. That was do something like that again,
don't just give us Hulk first fighting Superman or Batman America.
Speaker 1 (42:37):
Before I bounced. So we'll say this, if you're not
reading the absolute line you are, we are, Oh my god.
Speaker 5 (42:43):
Yeah there are.
Speaker 2 (42:46):
We did an episode on the first issues of Batman, Superman,
and Wonder Woman'self.
Speaker 1 (42:51):
They're phenomenal. All those books are so good, like they're boiled.
They've taken the characters out of their elements, but they
still have retained the core of what and that's why
they're like, I love this is a universe. I guess
so much.
Speaker 2 (43:02):
And before you bounce, you got any last things to
say to John before he goes off into the sunset.
Speaker 1 (43:08):
You are my favorite cantankerous bastards. I mean no, you
entertained me every week the show. You're always one of
my biggest fans and supporters as a creator, and I
appreciate that from the bottom of my heart. I have
found so many creative character names for John O'Grady. I've
just started writing it into books without even thinking about it.
Speaker 4 (43:31):
Don't pass up the don't pass up me being able
to pay you to kill me. That is the point
of this.
Speaker 1 (43:37):
Oh I'm going to I'm just writing to rewrite a
character you're already flagging out of John O'Grady sounds like
he's planning for it.
Speaker 4 (43:44):
Yeah, excellent. You make sure you email me when you're
raved for another book. I will definitely hit the kickstart.
Speaker 1 (43:51):
People are beginning emails. It's not a problem, no man,
I understand. I enjoyed the seven years. I couldn't believe
it was that long in retrospected, seven years is a
long time. I became a really good podcaster working with
you two specifically and then Don later on. As the
years went along, like to the point now where I
get to put a couple of coinut I get to
put some coin in my pocket, and I owe that
(44:11):
to the two of you and John. You and I
have gone back and forth, the same side, opposite sides
on numerous NERD issues, and I've just loved every minute
of it.
Speaker 4 (44:21):
Thanks. I yeah, I really appreciate it coming from you too,
because you were amazing. I still can't believe you're right.
Seven years I didn't even feel like that, but wild wow.
Speaker 1 (44:31):
I was on the show from twenty seventeen to twenty
twenty four. Yep, my child's life like it's crazy. Like
I said, I love that. This was a friendship that
grew off because I was just I jumped at an
opportunity to self promote because I'm shameless and I longed
o lifelong friendships and I never I didn't. I did
not foresee that coming when I jumped into this thing.
And to see you bow out, it's sad, but understand
(44:54):
because I was in the same boat you were a
year ago, and I spent a lot of time working
on myself and in therapy and getting my head straight,
and I hope you can find that same piece.
Speaker 4 (45:02):
Thanks. I appreciate it.
Speaker 1 (45:04):
I love you, Man to man, I love you. I
love you, guys. I love this show. I love I
love everything you do, and I love the fact that
in my absence you've managed to make the show grow
and continue with success. It makes me feel like not
a proud pop up because it's your baby, but like
a proud uncle.
Speaker 2 (45:21):
There you go, all right, Uncle JD funcle.
Speaker 1 (45:29):
There's a lot of places. I got a lot of jokes.
None of them are good. That's what happens after I
made him blush one more time. There you go, Dave,
you promised me, No, I promise you. I make no promises, dude.
(45:49):
I tried every week to keew on it and make
you embarrassed and turn purple. And I got that most
weeks for the better part of five years, when I
was like, fucking, I'm just gonna be me like and
it always entertained it because it was great me. As
I said, I miss you, guys. I will be back
this summer to talk Superman, perhaps earlier. We'll see what else.
Speaker 2 (46:09):
Pop all right, yeah, all right, I'll talk to you.
Speaker 1 (46:12):
Yeah, keep me in the loop. Dave, Don's good as
he as always, John Happy trails, don't be.
Speaker 4 (46:16):
A stranger, Thanks Man, Same with you.
Speaker 1 (46:18):
I love you.
Speaker 2 (46:19):
Guys, love you, I said, if I can't get you
to stay, at least I would try to make you cry.
So there we go. All right, let's do this article here,
chunkle And this is a big one. This is a
big one. This is a big one to me because
my dad was a huge James Bond fan. Amazon is
officially taking over a full creative control of the James
(46:40):
Bond franchise because they bought MGM, so they own the
rights and the I can't remember the name of the
family that ran it for years has walked away and
they gave full control to What do we think about that?
Speaker 4 (46:53):
And there's the end?
Speaker 2 (46:54):
Yeah, what do you think, John, You're probably more of
a James Bond fan than Don.
Speaker 4 (46:58):
Is always Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli that But yeah, no,
just no, Like.
Speaker 2 (47:08):
Randy says, the boys meet Double O seven.
Speaker 5 (47:12):
That might work.
Speaker 4 (47:14):
Great, We've got another extended universe. I just it, Jeff Bezos,
there's only this whole thing with all these companies that
are just trying to buy everything around us. You don't
you don't get you don't get good creative juices flowing
when you have a mega corporation stacked above you, trying
(47:34):
to control everything. There's so many restrictions that come with that,
Like this division doesn't want you to do this, This
division wants you to add this product placement, this division
wants you're not going to get I don't like the
fact that they bought it.
Speaker 2 (47:48):
I don't totally disagree with the creative juices go away.
The joke that my brothers and I have been making
is that you're going to get a reboot of the
movie series, like they'll start fresh with a brand new Bond.
They'll start at Doctor No or whatever. This time, Sina
Royal is really the first book, so they'll start at
Casino Royale again, brand new Bond, retelling the story again.
(48:11):
And then what we'll do is we'll bring in like
Timothy Dalton and do like Bond the retired years, like.
Speaker 4 (48:17):
They did with what's his name? Shoot, the original, not
the original Bond, but the best Bond that they ever had.
Sean Connery, Yeah, yeah, Sean Connery did James Bonder think, Yeah, James.
He did James Bond movie at the same time they
were doing another James Bond movie. But his movie was when.
Speaker 2 (48:33):
He was right. It was shortly after I can't think
of the second Bond's name. Shortly after Roger Moore took
over and Sean Connery did a movie called Thunderball, which
is a retired James Bond basically in the movie. So yeah,
we'll get like a Thunderball type movie with Timothy Daltoner's,
then we'll get a prequel of the young James Bond,
(48:54):
and then we'll probably get a spin off series like
the Inventions of h Yeah, because that's what happened, is
when these big corporations.
Speaker 4 (49:02):
They want to milk it for They don't want to
make good stories, they just want to milk it for
everything it's worth.
Speaker 2 (49:06):
Yeah, what do you think? Don do you like James?
Speaker 5 (49:10):
I can't think of much else less boring than James Bond.
James Bond is one tenth of Nick Fury. So no,
I've never even completed a whole James Bond mo ever in,
nor will I ever. It's just it's I've seen Austin
Powers many a times, but I've never seen a James
Bond movie. That's my feeling, That's how I feel. I
(49:32):
don't care.
Speaker 4 (49:34):
Is a better James Bond the human targets a better
James Bond.
Speaker 2 (49:38):
I think James Bond works in the time he was written.
But when you keep the character static but change the
world around him, which has happened because he's been around
since the sixties, it doesn't work anymore.
Speaker 5 (49:51):
And it doesn't work without Sean Connery, racist agent, Get
up Full just movie. Yeah, the one that wore the
impersonated Asian was racist Asian. This guy's ever like the
Tople of Seven Kids.
Speaker 4 (50:08):
No, I think they didn't they do that. They did it.
Speaker 2 (50:10):
There was a young James Bond, James.
Speaker 5 (50:14):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, boring as fuck. It came on right
after something I watched. This fucking sucks.
Speaker 2 (50:19):
Bon Christopher Lee was the real James Bond. I know
there was a real James Bond, but didn't I hadn't
heard that before. Bond Baby says Randy and that I
hate you. We can't be normal? Was that from James Bond?
Speaker 5 (50:34):
I wonder baby, But like literally, James Bond is a
character that has like sexual assault written into his characters trade.
Speaker 2 (50:44):
But again, that's why I'm saying. It works in the forties, fifties,
and sixties, yeah, but doesn't work today. Yeah, Well, it.
Speaker 4 (50:53):
Still worked in the seventy eighties and nineties because every
character had to be that big, buff guy who got
all the win in the end. And I think society
in the last fifteen years has gotten tired of that
and moved away from it.
Speaker 5 (51:07):
Yeah yeah, except for me, give me a mom changing bitch,
or I'm going to smack you with my ring hand.
Speaker 2 (51:13):
You can't do that, it's not cool. Cassan my favorite.
It's the alcoholic father hitting on the school teacher. Yeah,
we are, we are so yeah, that was that. I
don't know. I don't foresee anything great coming from this,
which you'll see. The only other news and this really
(51:34):
is a Don story more than anything is this is
a rumor. We don't know if it's true or not
that they are working on a series called Mutant Academy
for Disney Plus, which would be the first appearance of
X Men or Mutants in the MCU, and then that
would spin off into the first X Men movie. So
I'm curious. Like again, there's a lot of back and
(51:55):
forth whether this is true or not. It's a shame
Don that JD couldn't stay because he is one. It's
always been a proponent that said he thinks the X
Men work better on the small screen than they do
on in a movie because there's so many characters in
so many dynamics. It's hard to put that in a
two hour movie.
Speaker 4 (52:14):
I don't know. Mutant X was on for a while,
wasn't and that was supposed to be for in two
thousand and one, there was a TV show called Mutant
X ran for three seasons and it was supposed to
be The X Men, and then there was licensing trouble
and so it became Mutant X and they changed the
storyline so it had nothing to do with the Marvel.
But everybody had different powers. They instead of mutants, they
(52:37):
were like had experiment There was experiments on them.
Speaker 5 (52:40):
When there is one in the nineties where Emma Frost
and Banshee were.
Speaker 2 (52:45):
Was that Generation X or something it? Generation X doesn't say.
There's been quite a few X Men series on.
Speaker 4 (52:52):
TV, Legions, Misfits of Science.
Speaker 5 (52:56):
I still need to watch one, need to watch. The
Gifted was decent. Gifted, Oh yeah, Gifted.
Speaker 4 (53:02):
It was pretty good.
Speaker 2 (53:02):
Yeah, Alpha's Alpha is not an X Men show though, and.
Speaker 4 (53:06):
It didn't work out. We were all some of the
things we mentioned were X Men either that they were,
but they're pretty much the same dynamic, and you're right,
it does work better in this it's the same problem
as the Eternals. There's too many personalities, too many things
that they need to cover for them to do it
all into our movie.
Speaker 2 (53:26):
The other problem with the Eternals is it's too many
characters that no one knows anything about, and now we're
going to put to our movie. But I'm curious, don,
as our resident experts, do you think it should be
a show and spun into a movie or should it
just be a movie or what.
Speaker 5 (53:42):
I don't think it should start as a show for
unless they're going to go full balls to the Wall
and do the X Men Academy with Jean Gray, Cyclops,
Hank McCoy, Warren Worthington, and Bobby Drake the five original
X Men. Do I care about things like that, the
New Mutants ex Academy Generation X. I don't, but I
(54:02):
do recognize the popularity of those types of shows, the
Academy type of shows. My hero Academia and shit like
that's an anime and the X Men world can certainly
provide that, but I want that as a supplement. I
don't want that to be the introduction of the X Men,
(54:22):
unless again, you're starting at the original class in school,
then okay, I'm here for it. But otherwise I think
we should get some sort of cinematic ensemble X Men movie,
And absolutely if you want to put some sort of
New Mutants X Academy show on Disney Plus, then I'm
all for that. I'm just not for this being an introduction. No,
(54:44):
no way, no, unless it's the original five, which just
me saying that doesn't make much sense.
Speaker 4 (54:51):
That seems to trend is not to like the last.
But they're not covering Batman's origin anymore because everybody's tired
of it. They're not covering Spider Man's origin anymore. Technically,
it's just this Superman's not going to have an origin.
They may have some flashbacks in the movie, but like
we we, the thing is that all of this stuff
has entered the social zeitgeist for so long now that
(55:15):
everybody knows those stories and they're sick and tired of paro.
They just want to see something new, So you're not
off based on that.
Speaker 5 (55:22):
But outside of Wolverine's origin, have we really seen like
the origin story of the X Men in movies? And
I don't think we have. I've really got ten to
fifteen minutes montage here or there. But have you No?
X Men movies have always helped the X Men are here.
They've done this before. We've never actually gotten the origin.
Speaker 1 (55:42):
Of the X Men.
Speaker 2 (55:43):
That is, the X Men comics, like the first X
Men comic with the five original, we don't go too
deep into their origins.
Speaker 5 (55:52):
Two pages, two pages of Hey, this is why X
Men exist. Here we are, we're in the school. Hey
look at that. Yeah, and we're off And.
Speaker 2 (55:59):
It's always been that way. The closest we've gotten is
first class. But that's just the origin of the X Men,
not necessarily the origins of all the characters.
Speaker 5 (56:10):
We've gotten Wolverine's origin beaten to our brains, Which is
funny because for a while Wolverine's origin was a very
big mystery in the comics for twenty plus years, but
now everybody knows his origin because it's been beaten to
death in movies.
Speaker 4 (56:25):
Yeah, sounds spouting off here.
Speaker 2 (56:29):
Yeah, hey, logan, let's be uber alpha males and stack
that cash. That's what bit deadpool it says. So yeah,
I don't know. I like, I've always said this with
a lot of different characters in the MCU. Like, you
could do a show to get into the nitty gritty
origin stuff and then do a movie for the general
audience who doesn't care about the nitty gritty stuff. But
(56:52):
we'll see. I don't. I the X Men are too
big of a name to put on the small screen first,
I think, so I agree. Yeah, everyone is clamoring for
an X Men movie. I don't think. I really don't
think that it's gonna start off as show. They might
spin into a show, but I don't think they're going
to start there. All right, that is all the news
are brought this week. So we're gonna do something a
(57:13):
little special right now for Johnny Boy, this being his
last show and all I have a little video that
we're gonna play. It's about three minutes long. Let's enjoy
this look back on John's time here at Superhero Speak
and smoke A movie got him.
Speaker 4 (57:28):
This is your host, Dave and Ben and John all make.
Speaker 2 (57:32):
Sure we do that in every episode so people know
the voices.
Speaker 7 (57:36):
Hey, come on, we don't need you poisoning yourself this
early on.
Speaker 5 (57:41):
Okay, we told you, come on, come on.
Speaker 8 (57:48):
Oh yeah, alright, another time on the box stuck in
the road to wrapped your bother.
Speaker 9 (58:05):
Res directs you had to go, So.
Speaker 10 (58:08):
Make the best of this task and don't.
Speaker 8 (58:11):
That's why it's not a question about a lesson learning time.
Speaker 10 (58:18):
It's something unprotectable and in the endless, I hope you
at the time of your life.
Speaker 8 (58:35):
So take the photo, grab some Stelle friends.
Speaker 4 (58:37):
In your mind hanging.
Speaker 1 (58:40):
On a shelf, and guide out.
Speaker 9 (58:42):
Then guide time, take to some memories and dansking on
trial for what in sweat it was worth all the while.
Speaker 10 (58:54):
It's something unprotectable, but in the end.
Speaker 11 (58:58):
That's why I hope you have the time of your life.
Speaker 8 (59:32):
That's something don't pretext up long, but in the ye,
that's right.
Speaker 11 (59:38):
I hope you have the time of your life.
Speaker 10 (59:50):
It's something untable in the end, that's right. I hope
you have the time.
Speaker 2 (59:58):
Of your life.
Speaker 4 (01:00:11):
Who gave you those pictures.
Speaker 2 (01:00:12):
Are the hosts that has been featured in artwork for
the episodes, more than any other host has ever been
featured on the show. Just want to point that out
there here so photogenic, Yeah, me right. Some of these
pictures are acts of characters said no, no, they're not.
Speaker 5 (01:00:29):
No, but they do make me. Perhaps you prove me
wrong with John. They do make me lament, Like I
want to go to comic com with with Dave, and
that's great, and that's awesome there. I just wish I
was there, that's all. I don't know. Get drunk with
you at some little Mexican bar in Manhattan, I don't know.
Hopefully you join us at some point.
Speaker 4 (01:00:50):
Like it doesn't mean I want to stop going to conventions.
It just means that I'll have to be much better
at sneaking into the New York comic Dave knows how
good I am. I'm getting past security at some of
these places. He's watched me in action, and it is
I'm terrified at the time, but I always seem to
manage to scratch through somehow.
Speaker 2 (01:01:09):
So it's been twelve years, and in that time, John,
you're not just my friend or my brother, and you too,
you too, it's gonna be You're gonna be missed. Every
week we got to come on here and bitch about
our lives and then talk comics and bond and it's
been great and it's been wonderful, and I know we're
still friends. We are like we're already trying to make
(01:01:30):
plans to go to dinner hopefully next week. But but yeah,
like it's just not going to be the same being
able to talk to you every week and bullshit and
complain about work and all those fun things, complain about
James Gunns and and I can't think it's the Zimmer
there you Zimmer and all those things. So yeah, but
I understand. Look, I get it. Do you know how
(01:01:50):
many times I've wanted, and I want to say this
in all sincerity, I have wanted to throw the towel
and how many times just having a bad week and
just I just don't want to deal with the podcast
this week. And believe you or not, the thing that
has kept me going all the time is that you
wanted to keep doing it and I got done.
Speaker 4 (01:02:09):
Wait I wanted to quit several times too.
Speaker 1 (01:02:11):
We should have talked it.
Speaker 2 (01:02:13):
No, Don has brought new on board, and I'm thankful
for that. And this is not this isn't a slate
on Don at all. But it's just it's gonna be hard.
It's gonna be really difficult. No one that next week
we're gonna Wednesday a little preview about when I'm going
to announce in a minute, we're going to fire up
the podcast and you're not going to be there. It's
(01:02:33):
gonna be tough, but you gotta do what you gotta do.
And I understand.
Speaker 4 (01:02:36):
Yeah, And just to answer, Kassan said he missed the reason,
Kissan a mental health thing. That's what you would guess
normally for me, but no, it's you gotta understand that
when you get to our age, you know some sometimes
you decide that it's time to make a change. There's
several things that I want to actually try to get
myself to to finish, get done. My mom passing away
(01:02:59):
the last year put things in perspective. I'm trying to
buckle down and get some things done that I've always
wanted to now and doesn't preclude me from chiming that.
You know what this means. This means that now that
I can heckle you from the messages.
Speaker 2 (01:03:16):
Look forward to it, and we looked very forward to it.
That's the thing. This also means you get to go
to bed at this time on Sunday.
Speaker 4 (01:03:23):
So when you get to our age, now, yeah, stay
connected with me.
Speaker 2 (01:03:31):
Let's get that book done.
Speaker 4 (01:03:32):
That's the plan, Becassan, that's the plan.
Speaker 2 (01:03:35):
Yeah, so great American novel. Yeah, yeah, I don't. I'm
not gonna I think I've said everything I wanted to say.
I'm not gonna go on for hours again. It's you
said it earlier in the beginning of the show. We
went into a meeting room with a phone and we
talked about Superman for an hour and the new movie
and the trailers for a movie that wasn't even out yet,
(01:03:57):
and and then we cleaned up the audio and that
on the internet, and twelve years later, here we are.
You know what I'm gonna say this. I'm so glad
you decided to do this at five sixty. It's a
nice round number, but it's not, oh, five thirty nine
as the last episode. It's a good even number, five
sixty odd.
Speaker 4 (01:04:16):
Please. Yes, we had been happier five point fifty or
six hundred, that's OCD.
Speaker 2 (01:04:23):
But then you gotta stick around forty more weeks. Yeah,
do you have anything you want to add on?
Speaker 12 (01:04:31):
Oh?
Speaker 5 (01:04:31):
Yeah, guys, understand the mind fuck that I've gone through.
Not that this is about me, but as I explained
earlier in the podcast, I really came about this as
a listener and picking this as my favorite podcast, and
I never really interacted with the show or anything until
after the Rise of Skywalker. Yeah, oh my god, in
(01:04:55):
which case I did not like John's take. I was
really looking looking forward to everyone in the show just
loving the Rise of Skywalker and John did not, and
it pissed me off. I was really feeling like, because
I interacted with the show and that manner. Though it
proved to j D that I had actually listened to
(01:05:15):
the show, Hey listen to the show down, but he'said, Hey,
this guy, so listen to the show. A podcast house
it was. My podcast was House of D. You know,
House of Don's playing off of the House of X.
But JD called it House of D's Nuts. Yes, that
I thought was funny. I actually really never took offense.
But he was like, hey, he should come on the show.
(01:05:36):
And I came on the fucking show and they asked
me back, and then I eventually replaced j D and
now John a founding member again. When I when I
first loved the show, it was the Dave John and
j D version, and now here we are and it's
been quite a journey that it had just been a
very big honor to do amongst John because as much
(01:05:57):
as I interacted with the show because of I hate
of your take, but it could be a listen to everybody.
For that one thing that I hate about you, there's
teen things that are wonderful and that we agree on
and can bond over. Just let that be known. Yeah,
this person might do one fucking thing that's annoying, but
they probably do thirteen or eighteen other things that are
(01:06:19):
great and lean into that, and that just been a
great friendship. So thank you, and I'm trying to bring
you proud here.
Speaker 4 (01:06:26):
But you're doing better than anything. It's good that you're here,
it really is.
Speaker 2 (01:06:31):
Yeah, I will second that greatly. So before we call
it a night, I wanted to talk about the future
of Superheroes. Obviously, John leaving is a big blow, but
Don and I have been talking a lot since this,
since John told us his decision, and obviously the show
is not going anywhere. In fact, you're gonna get annoyed
(01:06:52):
with us. We have decided and this is probably a
bad idea, but we'll see. We are going to go
live two times a week Boys and Girls, starting this
week Wednesday and Sunday nights. I believe we'll do eight
thirty on Wednesday because Don has to work and won't
get home until eight, so we'll give him some time
(01:07:13):
to get ready, but we're gonna try. Maybe we'll talk
about this doing eight o'clock on Wednesdays and stick to
our normal Sunday night. We're doing this for two reasons. One,
we want to see if we can get a bigger
live audience on Wednesday nights because a little birdie told
me that Monday through Friday you should do between six
and nine o'clock, and the weekends you really should do
(01:07:33):
in the afternoon, not post six o'clock. So we'll see
what happens. Plus, this will allow us to keep the
show to an hour because we're not gonna be talking
about as much per episode. We'll be keeping it to
one or two articles. We'll be in and out, try
to be a little faster, and we're gonna be changing
some of the format, not too much. I've been working
(01:07:55):
on some things.
Speaker 5 (01:07:56):
Don.
Speaker 2 (01:07:56):
We'll probably get together Monday or Tuesday and go over
some things. But for one, I'm gonna do this right now.
This is a little preview. We're going to have a
new background for the show, so that will be the
background going forward, and that will be what you guys
will see going forward, and there'll be some other changes
(01:08:16):
obviously coming. This is just a little bit, just a
slight little taste. Obviously we're getting into gaming. There is
now a games playlist over on the channel. Check it out.
Don did the first live streams yesterday. Was it for
an hour and fifteen minutes of him playing Rivals. I
will be getting Rivals loaded on my PS five, and
(01:08:38):
Don will and I will be playing together and streaming that.
Plus we we'll probably be playing some other stuff. I'm
going to try to get some more modern games because
it's that and Spider Man two of what I'm currently playing. Yeah,
but yeah, that's so we'll be adding games. We'll be
going live choice a week, and there'll be some changes
to the format. So don't miss any of that because
(01:08:59):
it's not says I want to play let's fucking go.
Let's fucking go. But your gamer tag in our discord
uh link is in the description as always. And yeah,
we'll probably also be more heavily in discord of doing
gaming with people.
Speaker 5 (01:09:13):
Full disclosure on the gaming part, Like on a video
that's up there, you really can't hear the game sound.
Speaker 2 (01:09:19):
Well, we'll work out that.
Speaker 5 (01:09:21):
So I'm just putting out there that was a trial,
like getting everything to a point, but there's yeah, we
will work it out to where you will hear a
game sound because the characters say a bunch of cool
shit that I comment on.
Speaker 2 (01:09:33):
The Other thing is, for now, we're not replacing John.
We will be doing a rotating third chair. We have
a lot of people that I said this earlier, We
have a lot of people that want to come on
and guest host, and I don't want to like worry
about a permanent third right now. I think if we're
gonna get a permanent third, I'm good that this is
(01:09:53):
gonna sound bad. Maybe it's on some level, but I've
talked to a few people and we might want to
bring a few email perspective onto the show. But if
we can find a woman who has the right personality,
the right energy and fits in with don Nye, then
it's a go. Otherwise, I'm not gonna it's not a
(01:10:14):
it's not a drop dead I've got to have this criteria,
but it is something we would like to try. If
anyone listens to so Wizard, Aubrey is like the perfect
energy against Mark and Joey and it works really well
for the three of them. So I would love to
find a third like that in a woman, cause it
replace Jehan. You just got to be grouchy and miserable.
(01:10:36):
And yes, yes, yeah. And of course, if you are
a former co host of this show and you're watching
this or listening, hint hint, nudge nudge somebody that was
just on a few minutes ago, somebody that has a beard,
and you want to drop in for a night, let's
do it. Let's hit me up David superheroespeak dot com
and you guys really know my real email address. Hit
(01:10:58):
me up and we will work something out. We'll just
have you drop in on a Wednesday or Sunday for
an hour and we'll have some fun.
Speaker 5 (01:11:05):
I know James.
Speaker 2 (01:11:05):
Burton wants to come in and do a show with us,
Tim I know what's to do an episode, So yeah,
let's be This'll be fun for a little while. We'll
see how this works out.
Speaker 4 (01:11:14):
I bring you should bring Cassan on because he's really
tearing it up right now. But he's tearing it up.
Speaker 2 (01:11:22):
Then it's Joanna Grady answering as you were going into
and it's jo Okay, it's Joan O Grady. Yeah, I'm sure.
I'm sure Cassan would love to come and sit in
third chair and complain about old man stuff with us.
So yeah, keep an eye out for all of that.
(01:11:43):
Like I said, we're still working out a couple of details.
We'll have that worked out before Wednesday. Hopefully there will
be a new theme song. I don't know what that
is yet. Obviously we can't have it singing the praises
of somebody who's not here anymore. Cassan says, I'll identify
as Cassandra Sandra Nova. Is that it? So? Yeah? So definitely, Don,
(01:12:05):
you're excited for SUPERHEROESP Point zero?
Speaker 5 (01:12:07):
Yeah, absolutely, I'm gonna want to do John proud and
I used to have respect for our brand at this
point and can't wait for comic cons. I'm just all
about it. A boring married guy, so I always got
free time.
Speaker 2 (01:12:22):
And John just remember and you have your reasons and
you're doing what you need to do for yourself. The
door is always you know that, And if and hell
if you just say if you just say, hey, I
just saw Superman, I know you guys are gonna be
talking about it. Can I come on, Don? That's not
even a question.
Speaker 5 (01:12:39):
And I'll go one further. If Generation five, my little
pony shit goes down.
Speaker 4 (01:12:46):
That ship already said five sucked.
Speaker 2 (01:12:52):
What if generation six comes out.
Speaker 4 (01:12:54):
We'll see depends on who the showrunner.
Speaker 5 (01:12:56):
Is genetically enhanced.
Speaker 12 (01:12:58):
Oh god, okay, so we can either call the show
or not to speak. Damn, that might be the name.
Speaker 2 (01:13:09):
Of the next episode.
Speaker 4 (01:13:11):
Kill seven per game man. Cassan's taking the lead.
Speaker 5 (01:13:15):
This is big pressure though day, Like what if all
like our next video and it's just trash and like
John's what if?
Speaker 2 (01:13:22):
Yeah, what if no one watched survived?
Speaker 5 (01:13:24):
Yeah, I don't think we'll see.
Speaker 2 (01:13:27):
We lost a couple of viewers when j D left.
I'm just gonna say that the friends of j D
that watched the show stopped watching after.
Speaker 4 (01:13:34):
Oh then you're safe. I don't have anything I got
to say.
Speaker 2 (01:13:39):
Your two friends are right here.
Speaker 4 (01:13:40):
Yeah, yeah, look at that.
Speaker 5 (01:13:44):
Already watching Star Treking.
Speaker 4 (01:13:47):
Yeah, we have all very large Star Trek conging here.
A lot of Tricky's watching.
Speaker 2 (01:13:53):
Cassan says, I've got to admit I only came for John.
You guys are just.
Speaker 5 (01:14:00):
I can't blame you.
Speaker 2 (01:14:01):
Yeah, John's the meat worret the dessert.
Speaker 5 (01:14:03):
Listen, John, you're definitely coming on. If they somehow make
a like Grist movie, you definitely better be here for that.
Oh yeah, I would ask that you maybe craft a
little D and D for us to do on the
stream here.
Speaker 2 (01:14:17):
I don't know.
Speaker 5 (01:14:18):
And yeah, I will.
Speaker 4 (01:14:20):
Never finally do grant Caissan's request for a D and
D game with you, guys, I will DM it.
Speaker 2 (01:14:27):
I will just say that I will respect your choice
to go write your book, and I'll let you go
write your book, and I won't bug you too much,
but you definitely owe me at dinner.
Speaker 4 (01:14:39):
So Casan, that means it's triple d's nuts, right.
Speaker 2 (01:14:45):
With these nuts?
Speaker 4 (01:14:46):
Triple nuts.
Speaker 2 (01:14:49):
I guess that's all we got. So let's bring this
one in for landing. Let us go around the room
and tell me, gentlemen, did you heard anything in the
last twelve years. We have a recommendation, and John, of
course you can go for it.
Speaker 4 (01:15:03):
No recommendation, but I'll tell you what I've learned since
the last time I'll be able to say it. Be
kind to the people around you, and try to live
your Try to live your life like every day is
your last. So just try to enjoy your life and
enjoy the people around you, but most of all and
before anything else, be kind to yourself.
Speaker 5 (01:15:23):
Okay, DoD, I learned truthfully that even people with differences
say shit that you really hate a lot of stuff
that you really love, there's still going to be a
lot more than you have in common difference.
Speaker 4 (01:15:35):
Unless that motherfucker likes Zimmer than in that.
Speaker 5 (01:15:37):
Case, So that's it. That's it. That's what I learned,
and that's whatever. For every one difference you have with somebody,
there's team things you have in common and be open
to that.
Speaker 2 (01:15:45):
I learned in the last twelve years that the guy
that I worked with that I had some stuff in
common with, I threw a microphone in front of his
face and built a lasting friendship. The guy that I
wouldn't have been able to survive Comic Con without by
the guy that when my wife passed away, it was
one of the first to jump in and offer a
(01:16:05):
hand and help me out through a lot of things.
The guy that is not my friend, he's my brother.
I mean that when I say that this is not
gonna be the same, but Don and I will soldier on.
But you will be missed, John, They'll definitely be missed. Yeah,
and that's it. I'm not even gonna do my normal
plugs des end on that note, So, as always, boys
(01:16:28):
and girls, it's been a fun ride. To you on
Wednesday and until then, as always, don't let you keepe
got in the door. Have a good week, superheroes.
Speaker 5 (01:16:47):
Sorry crazy
Speaker 8 (01:16:52):
John John Jazz
