(00:28):
Welcome to the one hundred and fiftyfirst episode of the Supernatural Occurrence Studies podcast.
Oh my god, so fucking paranormal. Oh it feels good to say
that. My name is Jason Knight, host of this show, and with
me as always is Oscar Specter Inearly forgot my name, and producer extraordinaire

(00:51):
the podcast co host. Wow,we're back. This first official episode after
a year doesn't feel official any crazy. I don't see a notary. She's
in the closet right now. Youhave a stenographer two for the counting in
the minutes and ship. Uh yeah, So you know what's funny. We
ended our seasons, ended our series, I think, uh say, we

(01:19):
ended the show last year with afucked up story from Japan, and yeah
we did, Yeah we did?Right? Is this Sadala the Kobe Cannibal.
Now we're restarting the show same almosttime of the year, right with
another fuckier story from Japan. Wow. And I didn't really plan it that

(01:41):
way. I just kind of thoughtabout it. I'm like, oh my
god, yeah, it just cameup by way. Just Kis Mats if
you will, coincidence or something, yes, and strange it is a little
strange, or you have something againstJapanese or that. I mean, I'm
not going to focus on that partof it. I don't think it's that
at all. But also, youknow, you remember, have you seen

(02:02):
Avengers like Endgame? Yes? Right, you know when people disappear Dans did
the thing people have to people, right, the snap people called the blip.
We're gonna call twenty twenty two theblip. Dude, it's the blip.
It's nothing happened. We just cameback. We just weird. We
we materialized, and we're just startingback at normal. Like, okay,

(02:23):
we were doing December again. That'sweird, wow, said, we just
do December. Nothing happened. Okay, in eleven months, nothing happened.
Moving on, right, let's moveon. Very strange, and we are
face to face. I'm looking atyour lovely eyes, see each other.
Finally we pick up our cues.Yeah. Even you didn't even mentioned my
haircut? What haircut? I haven'tlong you know, the last time I

(02:46):
cut it was probably around the lasttime we recorded, No kidding, that's
probably been it's been a year.I like it a lot. He's got
long, luscious linguini locks. Gueenylocks. Yes, very thin, long
straight hair. Yeah, I likeit all. The long hair thing looks
good. Thank you. Yeah, you got this perfect hairline going. See.

(03:07):
I couldn't pull that off because myhairlines fucked up. I don't think
it's that fucked up. Thank you. Get you get to stay. Oh
okay, good. We're gonna bounceof ideas off of what are gonna do?
Talk to yourself, you know, run over here and then go over
there. Yeah right, run aroundthe table, knock everything over because everything's
so precarre. Everything is, yeah, exactly one got a two point earthquake.

(03:30):
We'll shatter this. Oh yeah, this is a very precarre two point
on earthquake is nothing, by theway. Yeah, walk heavy and everything's
coming down. Think heavy when itcomes down. Yeah? Are we?
Are we having more whiskey? Orwhat are we done? I'm not I'm
not that If you're not, I'vebeen drinking. Uh yeah, I'm gonna.
I'm gonna have a little poor again. Okay, then I we'll join

(03:51):
you. It's more e h Taylor, We're gonna open it right there.
Oh how did that sound on this? Something amazing? That sound nice?
Yeah, I can almost smile itthrough the fucking headphones here? Do you
know? I went to a barlast weekend and what I just poured?
I paid sixty bucks and you actuallypaid this for that? Poor yep,
because I love EH Taylor. Theyhad eh Taylor Like, oh fuck,
I'm in an DH Taylor. ThenI got the bill like Jesus christ Man.

(04:14):
Oh so you didn't know going in. I didn't, so you wouldn't
have done it. Maybe probably not, Well, you don't want to be
honest, probably not. All right, that's crazy. This is Milwaukee,
right, Yeah, Milwaukee. Yeah, not the street folks in Chicago.
He's talking about Waukey, Wisconsin.Yeah, a great bar called Shaker's Cigar
Bar. Don't go sixty dollars, right, But it goes back to the

(04:36):
early nineteen hundreds. Oh yes, yes, al Capone was involved. It's
built on top of the cemetery medalhaunk. Did they do haunted tours?
Haunted sleepovers? I'll let them slide. Then the Jeffrey Dahmer used to go
there, so they have a Dahmertour, which we took. The stool
he used to sit in is stillat the bar. They keep it off
to the side. No one's allowedto sit in it. Very tons of

(04:58):
history at this place. So yeah, wonderful bourbon selection, wonderful ghosts.
The atmosphere is, like I said, from the early nineteen hundreds, right
up my alley, fantastic sixty bucksfor my fucking poor must be so weird
to be someone that's some at somepoint in history when you met nothing,
you sat in some stool in somebars, right, and then it's now

(05:18):
being showcase and no one can siton it because you were the last one
to have done it. That's bizarre. It is very bizarre. Yeah,
you know, even taking the Dummertour, it's kind of bizarre, must
be. What is like being Beyonceis like I'm sure everything she touches people
immediately, like collecting for museums andshit. Yeah yeah, eBay, so

(05:39):
that should in eBay right waight right, she touched she spit on me.
This is my skin. Cut theskin. It's a terrifier too. I
can see that in a metal Locolipsedoing that. I remember metal Oclipse because
they're like diehard fans had to killeach other waiting for the album. Yeah
yeah, uh but yeah, no, it feels good to be back,
have a fucked up story tonight.Yeah, I know this one a lot

(06:01):
of triggers. Definitely a warning.Oh yeah, moarning galore, some nasty
shit on this one. But hey, it's Christmas time and this is kind
of what we do, right.Put this in your stocking stuffer. Stuff
it in your stocking. Isn't itcalled stocking stuffer? It is? Okay,
thank you, I had it right. Yeah, put this in your
stocking, give it to your family. Enjoy, enjoy. I don't see

(06:26):
this, but he did a givingmotion with his hands. Yeah, but
kind of like disdainfully. I've noticedmy chairs and I'm sure it sounds like
yeah, definitely keep demonstrating it.These mics, man, I'm ready to
go back on zoom. I don'tknow who mics are, but oh yeah
yeah, well even on zoom youcan still use the mic. Yeah you

(06:46):
could, you could, but Iused a much dumber mic. And with
zoom why because of zoom, Iguess it still captures pretty well. That's
they make a whole business around itnow. It's just these things are so
sensitive. Yeah, they pay sensitive. And I don't mean like you know,
if you say one bad word, they'll cry. I mean they can
pick up anything. Yeah, sosome of the downfalls of the quirks of

(07:09):
recording. Yeah, person, I'mreally worried what kind of sounds I'm gonna
hear, Like, do I smackmy lips at all? I wonder I'm
gonna know. I'm gonna find out. Hopefully this pop filter helps with that.
Yeah. No, I'm sure itdoes, but it helps with pop
not Oh well, wet your lipswith some whiskey. Yes, So I
can never heard a call to adventureas much as that. Yeah. Uh.

(07:31):
Not much has happened with me sincethe last we did a little welcome
back recording release. It's been prettyslow well since I know, yeah,
and I remember that we just didour magic of editing. We just did
our our apology introduction there. Yeah, they welcome back. That's what I
call it, her welcome back rightrelease, right right right. So,

(07:53):
and we don't have a lot totalk about. But I did have something
that's in the season. So everyyear you may have known listeners, if
any of you stuck around that areover a year old, I do a
white eleven Christmas party with my friendsin January because none of us are available
in de summer and obviously this thistwenty twenty three, I mean in January

(08:15):
a month. No, it's nodifferent. We have one already planned and
I found I did find up greatgift is a theme gift, but before
I even mentioned it, which Imay not mention it. I want to
talk to you about the dark asstheme that I had before the theme that
I scrapped. I want to tellyou about theme I almost went with this.
Okay, okay, So I'm gonnastart with a question, Jay,

(08:41):
Yes, Jay, Yes? Didyou notice that I asked you a couple
of days ago, five days agoand text that, hey, is it
okay if I send you some shipments? Yep? And what did I say?
Right away? Sure? I did? All I said, is am
I gonna get arrested? Right?Said? That's it? You're like,
no, it's going on gift Sunday. I didn't even ask you didn't even
down, and I need you tobe down. And I remember you asked,

(09:03):
like, am I gonna get arrested? I said like no, no,
there's just things that can't ship inIllinois. Yeah. I said,
okay, right, okay, that'sa friend right there. I just gotta
say yes and reliably saw I knewwho to ask. Now, honestly,
I don't know if you noticed. You didn't get any shipments for me?
Right? No? Nothing? Okay? Good. I was gonna say,
did you get something? No,because I was going to say, give
an eye roll. Well if itwas small, I didn't check the mailbox.

(09:24):
Oh no, I see. Okay. So my theme for this wildlife
and that I scrapped was going tobe these shipments. Okay, so oh
my god. Okay, Okay,I don't remember the whole list, but
I had a list of things thatyou cannot ship in Illinois. There are
things you can't buy because of thelaws of this state, Okay, but

(09:46):
you can in other states like theydon't give a ship like Wisconsin, like
Indiana, like like Michigan to Thetwo major ones that I was going to
focus in on were e juices,so for vaping, can you can no
longer get those on the mail anymore? As of one Actually, that's probably
why the flip exists. I'm gonnajust dying of frustration anyway. So I

(10:09):
have to go to the store tobuy physically every single time. Now it's
really annoying and more expensive. Sothat was gonna be one and I had
all these ideas for this thing, where like I would separate all these little
little gifts in these boxes, andeach box will have a note card that
says something quippy, we're probably darkabout the thing itself and why it's kind
of funny, kind of making funof the Illinois, but also say like

(10:31):
smoke up Johnny kind of thing. And then the last gift was gonna be
the worst, the pure services stuntsor whatever the prench sort is. The
main thing was going to be anairsoft gun handgun. I don't mean like
the toy, I mean the onesthat people used to go out and play
as soldiers in the field. Theyhave to wear protective yes, they should

(10:52):
be begun. They have a pressurizedcontainer that you use, yeah, the
seal two things, right, theones that use those. I was gonna
get that and put it and takeit out of the original box, put
in a nice thing and have itloaded and have a and have a note
card that says something like, Idon't remember the number. I looked it
up, but I forgot what itwas. There was, for example,

(11:15):
five hundred deaths in the city ofChicago. Shootings. There was five hundred
shootings this year in the city ofChicago. Go do your part, and
then they opened the box. Itye start. I wasn to do that,
and my friends typically know my senseof humor, and we all have
the sense of humor, so Ithink it would have worked. But I
scrapped this idea. So that's whyyou didn't get any of it. So

(11:35):
I'm not gonna get Okay, you'renot gonna get this in the mail.
But I wanted to do it.So what's the new theme? What are
you going with? It's much simplerthan that. I think it's more wholesome,
it's more fun. I went witha home alone team. Oh yeah,
it's nice. So the home aloneteam is. I got the two.
I got a pair of turtle dovesthat are ornaments from the second movie.

(11:56):
I got micromachine toys. I lovedmicro machines. Micro machines. I
got a set of micromachines. Stillfind micro machines, Yes, I can.
I actually want to target. Theyhave some. They still make my
fake No, yeah they do,Okay. Toy soldiers, those old green
toy soldiers that Kevin mcawso used toshoot. I got an airsoft gun handgun,

(12:18):
but like a toy, like anerve type gun. The shoots really
good though, I tried it out, and so you can shoot the soldiers
with I got a VHS copy ofthe nineteen ninety one movie Nice. And
there's some other stuff relating to themovie, like a map of his diagram
of where all the traps are. That is cool. Things like that.
That is pretty. So basically gethome alone thing, that's nice. I

(12:41):
like it. Yes, so Iwent wholesome. I mean complete opposite ends
of the spectrum on that one.I'm still a weapon in it. I
like what you settle the hunt. But yeah, so thank you for sharing.
It's awesome. You just reminded methe whole sending me things and me
not questioning. Yeah, I justyou know, for my friends. Yeah,
I'll do it. Yeah whatever.I had a po box guys po
Box five. A friend of minehas a very successful tattoo shop in Chicago.

(13:09):
Uh tons of money, I meanjust money, hand over fist,
right, And one day he calledme and uh, and it's been it
had been quite a few years sincewe spoke, and he called me out
of blue. He's like, hey, how's it going. Yeah, everything's
going good. Oh yeah, it'sgood. Hey, could I send you
a monkey. I'm like, what, He goes, I can't get a
monkey sent to my house. It'sillegal in Illinois. Yeah, I send

(13:31):
it to you. I'm like, okay, I saw that on the list.
Yeah, so I just said, yeah, sure, I never got
the monkey. You never got themoked out. Yeah. Oh he backed
out, but it was quite afew thousand dollars and it couldn't be shipped
to Illinois. So he's like, wow, I'm gonna call it Jay,
And Jay always says yes, yeah, you also can't send out tiger here
apparently not. No. Uh sothat that's kind of what it reminded me

(13:52):
of. Yeah, if I likeyou, I'll do it whatever I need.
Yeah, I smuggled drugs for peopleaccept monkeys, I mean, on
the human Mule. It's true,it's the truth. You know that Clintiest
movie with a mule based on thisguy, our good old Jason Knight well
jackass jack Ass over No with JohnnyKnoxville based on this guy. M So

(14:18):
I should have probably said at thetop of the show that, you know,
if you don't want to hear thisban tourist intro, go to this
fucking show. Notes. If youremember that there. Wow, I forgot.
Yeah, you know, like throughthis hiatus we took. Ye,
I'm watching a bunch of comments comein on YouTube and people are so mean,
like fucking long intros, get tothe point, blah blah blah.

(14:39):
I'm like, asshole, there's atimestamp right there. Oh yeah, we
have for a timestamps. Go togoddamn timestamp. You don't have to hear
any of this, get right tothe topic. So yeah, I forgot
to say. If you want tohear this to go to the show notes,
it'll be there. Yeah. Yeah, life still sucks, you know.
Can't wait for the Florida trip.I think I mentioned that in the
last episode. We're going to Floridaagain. But that's about it for me.

(15:01):
Man, That's cool. I justwant to mention that a little bit
and then we can move on.Yeah. I'm ready to sum this horrible
story and give people nightmares for Christmas. That's my gift to our listeners is
you know, my favorite gift you'vegiven me without you even without even knowing
you've given it. Uh so farat this point in the year is that
there is, as far as Iknow, no phone number, no fake

(15:22):
ass phone number to give out.Bro, there is no phone number anymore.
You can't give out one. Thereis none. Actually no, there
isn't no, there isn't. Giveme this gift of not lying to the
American public, well, the worldpublic, the public, I could say
world. I mean we have listenersall over yeah right yeah, yeah yeah,
Germany listens to us. But likewebsite no, Chicago ghost podcast dot

Send us an email, Chicago GhostPodcast stack, send us some ai

(16:30):
art, which is all the newthings. Might not people do ai art?
Ai art? You not look itupd No, Oh, it's fucking
fantastic. You could look up anything, anything, little brain and think of
it'll make art out of that thingyou think, and AI would do it
for you. I kind of likethat. Yeah, you know, they
said, I've heard that if AIgets to the point where it could replicate

(16:52):
a human what was it, ahuman signature? Hmm, it would be
the end of the world. Ohokay, yeah, I mean I'm embracing
it more at this point. It'sbeen shitty everywhere. So yeah, I
forgot the whole story behind the signaturething. I'm not going to get into
it here, but that's what Iheard. Yeah, I can be a
topic, So it's I mean,if they're doing beautiful art, it's only

(17:14):
a matter of time before they couldreplicate it. They're beautiful, just but
they're making art, Okay, Imean some of it is beautiful. I
guess all right, do we dowe break anymore or do we just roll
into it? We should probably?Yeah, I mean we should take a
break because I think, I mean, your your cataracts are acting. You
probably need to take your medication orpastardhone numbers. I don't know what the
fuck are doing because you hate yourself. That's why this year I really did.

(17:38):
All Right, we'll be right back, Welcome back to the show.

(18:10):
Well, I can't believe I'm gonnasay this. I remember now, but
the lights are turned down low,the ceremonial candle is lit, and the
Eh Taylor is flowing. Let's startthis show so again. Trigger warning,
major trigger warning on this one.Yes, this is nasty. I think

(18:36):
this is worse even than the Kobecannibal we covered last season. This topic
is probably the worst thing I've everresearched. Many people believe that what we're
gonna talk about tonight is the worstmurder ever committed, ever committed. The

(18:56):
story of Junko Faruta, the agonizingstory of Junko Faruta, is a brain
worm. Details about this case slithertheir way into your brain at the most
unexpected moments, and there they digdeeper and deeper into your gray matter until
it's impossible to forget this story.Horrible mental images of what Junko went through

(19:22):
creep their way into your dreams, turning them into literal nightmares. And I
had several nightmares while putting this storytogether. Junko's story is a story that
changes you the way you look atthe world, the way you look at
people. What happened to Junko mademe question the existence of God, Like,

(19:42):
if God exists, how could heallow this to happen to someone.
This story proves that humans are worsethan animals, and it shows just how
empty and devoid of empathy and compassionman could really be. Story might have
made me question the existence of God, but it sure as hell solidified my

(20:04):
belief in demons. Keep in mind, this is a real story. All
of it's true. It's not anurban legend or made up gore porn.
This really happened to a completely innocentseventeen year old high school girl, who,
in my opinion, was an incrediblystrong girl, a fucking survivor because

(20:29):
she held on. Junko held onfor forty four days, enduring unbelievable torture,
and, in a final act ofdefiance a final fuck you to her
captors, Junko beat them at agame of majong despite not being able to
walk, or eat, or breatheor control her bowels. Now, if

(20:55):
you want to see pictures of JunkoFaruta and these animals that killed her,
be sure and go to the episodeshow notes. I've let pictures there for
you. Yeah, there's no crimescene photos that they're just actual good pictures
of junko. Right. Oh yeah, yeah you actually you really can't find
crime scene photos of this case. And that's probably a goddamn good thing.

(21:15):
Yes, But if you're interested tosee what this, what this young woman
look like, and what these fuckinganimals look like, I left them in
the show notes, some real likecrazy it's such a crazy, like be
steal mindset that goes on here.I don't even know how to describe it.

(21:38):
You can't it. It defies yeah, you know, defies description logic
because you know, you've heard ofyou've heard of things like, for example,
jaguars or other creature like cats.Maybe especially cats is more relatable because
also jaguars, that's hypocatea guess.Cats are known to have, you know,

(21:59):
torture their prey before they eat them, things like that, like a
play, like a tortury play thingthat they do. It's a little bit
of that that it feels like ina very like like like a like a
gut feeling kind of sense. Itfeels like a little like that little brutal
but like a cat playing with Like, it's not the cat's fault, right,
not necessarily like an animal doesn't it'storturing, yeah, the mouse,

(22:22):
sure, but like it's like partof them in a weird way. This
feels like that it does, althoughthese guys are completely at fault. Oh
no, no, yes, we'reconscious, we're aware. Yes, you're
right, you're right. It's agreat analogy to all right. Now,
the Junko Faruta case, the storythe murder takes place in Japan, and

(22:48):
it's also called the Concrete in casehigh School murder girl case Concrete in Case
high School Murder girl case because ultimatelyjunk goes he was found in a fifty
five gallon drum, encased in cementand discarded in a landfill. The Japanese
could be so literal. Yeah, the translation could be weird too. Oh

(23:10):
you think, like in maybe intheir dial you know, in the way
they say it, it's probably muchmore common and their descriptive, and then
so when they translate it, itjust sounds like, oh, this is
the way to break down this word. But for them that it's a one
two word thing, and that makesit flows probably better. I'm saying lost
in translation maybe good point, goodpoint, that's probably what it is,
because when I read that, I'mlike, wow, that's but also on

(23:32):
our sound Texas Chainsaw massacre pretty long, just to give an example, Well,
you're right, it does sound veryweird. That translates yea, yeah,
not good concrete. It sounds likesomeone's first time naming a case.
Yeah right, a rookie name thatright, right, right, Okay.
So everything we know about this agonizingstory of Junko Fruda comes from japan,

(23:57):
Japanese news stories blogged mostly, andnot a lot of American sources to pull
from it. All that, coupledwith the fact that a lot of the
details about the case were kept fromthe Japanese public because of the offenders' ages,
makes finding cold hard facts about thiscase incredibly difficult. In fact,

(24:18):
we wouldn't even know who the piecesof shit that murdered Junko are because they
were under eighteen when they killed her, and because of their age, they
were given special privileges in Japanese court. Their names and certain details withheld from
the public to quote unquote protect theunderage offenders. We only know who these
fuckers are because a Japanese reporter saidFuck these guys. They don't deserve to

(24:42):
be protected by nidity and amidity.I can never say that after what they
did. So then that's what hesay, is it? Fuck these guys,
they don't deserve this protection. Sothe reporter dug around, he discovered
the offenders' names and released them tothe public. That's crazy. Yeah,
So what I'm trying to say isthat I've done the best I can to

(25:03):
gather enough credible information to tell thisstory. But keep in mind, things
change depending on what you read, dates, people involved, duration of captivity.
Was Junko held for forty days orforty four days? Stuff like that.
What doesn't change from source to source, however, are the descriptions of

(25:26):
the mindless brutality and unimaginable torture raineddown onto an innocent high school girl by
a group of devils, and evenworse, the staggering lack of any form
of justice for Junko. Yeah. Now here's what we know about Junko Faruta.
She was born on January eighteenth, nineteen seventy one, in Misado,

(25:51):
Japan, Sadama Prefecture, about fortyfour miles from downtown Tokyo. Junko lived
at home with her mother, father, and two brothers, one older brother
and one younger brother. Junko attendedYashio Minami High School and had a part
time job after school. She waspretty with wavy shoulder length black hair,

(26:14):
large dark almond shaped eyes, anda pretty smile, and she had huge
dimples. Junko liked to bake, and she was known as a good girl.
Pure is the word that kept poppingup, popping up when describing Junko
in these articles. She didn't drinkor do drugs, she didn't cause any
trouble, and she was really goodin school, smart, and she was

(26:37):
popular. Everyone liked her and shewas close to her family. Yeah,
at the time this all went down, Junko had a fairly serious boyfriend and
when they were planning to take askiing trip together. Now, the common
storyline says that ironically, it wasJunko's perceived purity and her good looks that

(27:00):
caught the attention of a fellow classmate, a demonic fucker named Hiroshi Miyano.
It said that eighteen year old Hiroshiapproached Junko on a number of occasions,
trying to hook up with her,but each time Junko politely, politely refused.
After all, she already had aboyfriend, and she was more interested

(27:22):
in school and work and supporting herfamily. So when Hiroshi would approach her,
Junko was like, noah, man, I'm good now, this miano
asshole. In all the reports I'veread, he's kind of this gangster character
who walked around claiming to have closeconnections to or actually was a member of

(27:45):
the local Yakuza, the notorious Japanesemafia. Needless to say, Yakuza or
not. A guy like Hiroshi, his attitude wasn't used to hearing the word
no, especially from a woman's lettingit go it anyway exactly, it's a
slight to his manhood. It's aninsult. Yeah, this guy, Now

(28:07):
this you got to keep in mind, this supposed Yakuza connection. It's really
important, as it's a repeated threatby Hiroshi that if anyone said anything about
what was happening to Junko, Horoshiwould stick the Yakuza on him. So
everyone just kind of shut up andlet this horror unfold unheeded. Now,
I did some research into this Yakuzathing, and apparently it's a pretty big

(28:32):
deal in Sadama prefecture where Junko wasfrom. I was able to find stories
of Yakuza activity in Junko's neighborhood innineteen eighty eight when this case happened,
all the way up to present time. So if Hiroshi wasn't really connected with
the Yakuza, even if he saidhe was, there's a good chance people
would have looked the other way justin case. Yeah, that's some sure,

(28:56):
it happens a lot too, especiallylike examples of of UH, you
know from World War Two saying thatyou know the reproach you for this,
or like saying it and UH inthe mob heavy era of the of our
components days, you don't have toactually know UH an enforcer right from these
mobsters. You just have to sayit to the right person, right,

(29:18):
And that's enough about threats to wardoff any kind of police involvement or whatever,
because a lot of people, likeyou know, a lot of people
would have called on the screams,on the activity going on the obviousness of
them, because these kids are notlike smart, they're kids. They're now
they're young adults, right, They'renot just kids, I guess, but

(29:38):
you know what I mean. Sothey're pretty dumb about it, but like
the one thing hanging, that onething that lets them be in this case,
like it's the it's the it's acriminal element. The fact that there
is a criminal element in in Tokyoand Japan called the yakuza they can use
on, they can use to likehad this time. It's just I'd think

(30:03):
that speaks to also a larger, right, societal problem, Yeah it does.
Yeah, yeah, and people wereafraid. Yeah, so it makes
sense that maybe they wouldn't say anythingjust in case. Yeah, because it
was a real thing. It wasa real threat. So here, you
know, quick recap. We havethis young, pretty vibrant, innocent,

(30:25):
pure to use the word from thearticle's girl Junco high school girl refusing the
advances of an uber guy. Right, and this isn't going to sit well
with him. Yeah. So onNovember twenty fifth, nineteen eighty eight,
at around eight thirty pm, seventeenyear old Junko was riding her bike.

(30:48):
Most stories say through a park, heading home from her part time job,
looking forward to having dinner with theirfamily. Now stories differ as to what
Junco data is part time work.I've read Sheho was a waitress and I've
also read that she worked at asmall plastics factory. Regardless, as she
was riding to the park, unbeknownstto Junko, the scumbag Hiroshia Miano and

(31:08):
a friend, sixteen year old NobajaroMinado Nobajaro Minado, were out on the
prow, slithering around Misado looking forwomen to rob and rape. Apparently,
at just the ages of eighteen andsixteen, these two were already seasoned criminals

(31:30):
and rapists. Now normally er nothingin the story is normal, right.
Let's say, Let's say typically thetwo would rape and release women, but
they would deviate from their mo owith Junko, And we're not exactly sure
why. Was it simply the boy'stime to escalate from serial robbers and rapists

(31:51):
to kidnappers and murderers? Was theresomething special about Junko that made them deviate
from their norm Did Junko refuse Hiroshi'sadvances one too many times? I can't
really say, But unfortunately, thetwo maniacs saw ju Junko that night riding
her bike, and Hiroshi devised aplan. On Hiroshi's orders, Knubaharu kicked

(32:14):
Junko off her bike and then quicklyfled the scene and like a hero swooping
in the save the day, Hiroshiapproached the frightened Junko and offered to escort
her home in case the attacker shouldreturn. Now, remember, Junko knew
Hiroshi from high school. It wasn'ta positive experience knowing him, but in

(32:35):
her frightened state, she decided totrust him. Fatal fatal mistake. Instead
of bringing Junko home to safety,Hiroshi, the little shit, took Junko
to an abandoned warehouse where he rapedher and he threatened that the yakuza would
kill her and her family if shesaid anything about what was going to happen

(32:55):
or what was happening. Hiroshi violentlyran rape Junko right there in the warehouse.
Then he took her to a localhotel where he raped her again,
and he continued to threaten her thatif she told anyone about the rapes,
the Yakuza would kill her and herfamily, Junko and her family. After
raping her at the hotel, Hiroshicontacted his friends Joe A Goa eighteen years

(33:19):
old Nbaharro Manado, the one thatkicked Juko off a bike. Right and
remember Nobaharo. He's just sixteen, and he also contacted another jag off named
Yasushi Watanabi seventeen years old. Hiroshibragged to his friends about what he'd done
to Junko, and Joe A Goaapparently told Hiroshi to keep hold of Junko

(33:43):
so they could all have a turnwith her. Joko was then brought to
Nobaharro Manado's parents' house where she wasgang raped by the four boys. And
it's at this house on the secondfloor with Nobaharro Manado's parents regularly inside their
home that poor Junko's forty four daysof captivity, rape, torture, mutilation,

(34:06):
and eventually death took place. Yousee, it's believed that Nobaharro's parents
were fooled into believing Junko was theirson's girlfriend, and so they thought nothing
of Junko being in a house.Other stories say that the parents were fully
aware of what was happening to Junko. I mean, how could they not
be, for fox sakes their home, But they were simply too afraid of

(34:28):
their son's supposed Yakuza connections through Hiroshimianoto say anything or do anything about the
depravity happening inside their home. Thatand according to a few sources, apparently
Nobaharro was beating the shit out ofhis parents too, so they were afraid
to intervene and afraid to go tothe police for fear of Yakuza retaliation and

(34:51):
getting beat up by their own son. That makes it sound as if Nobaharu's
parents were just as much a hostageas Junko was. Maybe right, maybe,
yeah, I mean, maybe Iwore stas a sort of willful ignorance
to you know, being asked frightenas a neighbor would be about calling the
cops on the kids, right, right, yep, fucked up, But

(35:15):
they're just about to see it andhear it more, right, right,
and get beat for it, probably, yeah, yeah, beaten his own
parents. These are just gold starpeople here. Now. Reports say that
Nobuharu had a brother who also livedin this house and who was also aware
of what the boys were up towith Junko, but this brother, too

(35:37):
did nothing to stop the insanity. Now, up to this point in the
story, Junko had been viciously beatencontinually threatened with her and her family's death
at the hands of the Yakuza, and she was raped at least six times,
and sadly, it's about to getmuch much worse. When Junko didn't

(36:00):
return home from work on the eveningof November twenty fifth, nineteen eighty eight,
obviously, her parents got worried. On the twenty seventh of November,
Junko's parents contacted the local police toreport their daughter missing and ask that a
search for Junko commence, to whichthe police agreed. When word got out
that police were searching for Junko, her captors forced her to call her parents

(36:23):
and tell them that she was perfectlyfine, that she ran away to a
friend's house, and that she wasthinking about coming home soon, so could
they please call off the search. Her captor said she'd better be convincing that
if her parents thought anything suspicious aboutthe phone call, the yakuzo would be
sent over to the house to killher entire family. And apparently Juko was

(36:45):
convincing enough, because the police searchwas soon called off. Now with no
one looking for her, her parentsreasonably appeased that Junko had just run away
but was safe, and Nubaharo's parentsheld that Babe to fear or stupidity or
both the four devils had all thetime in the world to play with Junko.

(37:08):
Now understand, we don't know theexact timeline of events. Junko was
held for so long and ultimately somany people were involved with her torture that
a breakdown of the sufferings she enduredday by day is impossible. All we
have to go on are the wordsof her four main captors. And again

(37:29):
that's Hiroshi Miano, the eighteen yearold supposed to Yakuza tough guy. There's
sixteen year old Nobuharu Minado, that'sthe one that kicked Junko off her bike,
and it's at his house where allthis goes down. There's eighteen year
old Joe Agora and seventeen year oldYasushi Watanabi Watanabi and so you know,

(37:51):
it's believed that up to one hundredpeople either knew about or participated in the
rape, torture, mutilation, andmurder of Junko Feruda. One hundred people.
Yeah, yeah, there's no wayother people didn't know about it forty
days, at least forty to fortyfour days. Court records say that at

(38:13):
one point a young girl visited thehouse during Junko's imprisonment and the little bastard
doodled on Junko's face while she waspassed out from the abuse. I found
this little piece of information in onlyone source, so I'm not who knows
if it's true, but something aboutit just chills me to the bone.

(38:34):
And it's also believed that during herforty to forty four days of captivity,
Junko was raped up to five hundredtimes five hundred, So let that sink
in. Yeah. Now, thetimeline of events that investigator investigators believe is
fairly accurate is as follows, andagain trigger warning, this is bad stuff,

(39:00):
the worst we've covered to date. And remember, up to one hundred
people are said to have either known, watched, or even took part in
this nightmare. It's even said theboys charged an entry fee, yeah on
that part, so people could watchas Junko was slowly tortured to death,
and other stories say people paid anentry fee to participate. The fuck is

(39:22):
going out in Japan, man,So on No. Nineteen eighty eight,
Junko was kicked off that bike, taken to a warehouse, and raped.
She was taken to a hotel whereshe was raped again. Then she was
taken to Nobaharro Manado's house, gangraped. Then she was forced to act
like Nobaharro's girlfriend and made to callher parents and say everything's okay. And

(39:45):
holy shit, what's going through Junko'smind at that point when she's forced to
make that call to her parents afterwhat she's been through and so close to
help that right there would break someoneand all this is just the first couple
of days. Junko's got to gothrough much worse. For over forty more
days from there, up until aroundDecember first, approximately nineteen eighty eight,

(40:10):
Junko was continually raped. Rape happensnearly every day in this entire ordeal,
and many many times a day bymany many people. During this time,
Junco is starved and she's refused water. Instead, she was forced to eat
cockroaches and drink her own urine. Now I had to look this up.

(40:32):
A person can get away with drinkingtheir own urine for a few days,
as our urine's about ninety five percentwater, but the other five percent consists
of harmful ways like nitrogen, potassium, calcium. So when you drink your
own pea, all the bad shityour kidney attempts to get rid of winds
back up in your system and backinto your kidneys. Ultimately, forced to

(40:54):
drink urine for an extended period oftime, one could suffer symptoms brought on
by to kidney failure or vomiting, diarrhea, increased urination, terrible muscle cramps,
heart palpitations. As for eating cockroaches, not only is it fucking gross,
but roaches feed on anything, includingdead animals, rotten flesh, spoiled

(41:15):
food. When eating a roach, there's a high risk of passing that roach's
contaminants to the human host. Notgood right. Junko is also forced to
participate in humiliating acts for her captor'senjoyment, like being naked constantly and masturbating
vigorously in front of them objects likebottles and food skewers. Some food skewers

(41:42):
with chicken on them were forced intoher vagina and anus. Fireworks were inserted
into her anus and lit, theexplosions, causing severe damage to Junko's insides,
specifically her rectum and lower digestive tract. Anything into the anis can lead
to a severe abdominal pain, rectalblading, vomiting, fever are objects large

(42:07):
enough like a fucking bottle, canrip through the anus and rect them again,
causing severe pain, hemorrhaging, andof course, terrible infection. A
hot light bulb wased inserted into Junco'svagina and her abdomen punched until the light
bull broke. Insider. Foreign objectsinserted in the vagina like a fucking skewer

(42:30):
or a broken light bulb, canperforate the vagina and enter the abdominal cavity,
again causing extreme pain and hemorrhaging, and if not treated, putrid infection
will result. This is what shewent through. It's believed that fireworks were
also set off in Junco's mouth andears, resulting in obvious extreme pain,

(42:51):
as well as damaged or ruptured eardrums, burns to her mouth and lips,
damaged tongue, probably damaged teeth too, depending on the charge. Fireworks
set off in the mouth could alsocause temporary dizziness in the sense of vertigo.
All this within roughly the first tendays of Junko's captivity. Fuck now

(43:14):
Beginning somewhere around the eleventh day,the real beating started and Juko was beaten
mercilessly Junko's lean schoolgirl body was hungfrom a ceiling by her wrist and her
body used as a punching bag,her captors throwing full on hay balers straight
to her body. Again and again. They punched and kicked as she helplessly

(43:36):
hung from the ceiling, Unable todefend herself or even attempt to block the
onslaught, Junko had to hang thereand take it. Think about that a
second. Think about how hard itis to breathe when your arms are above
your head supporting your weight, likehanging from a monkey bar or from a
pull up bar. Just hanging there. It's hard to breathe when your arms

(43:57):
are supporting all your weight. Nowimagine someone or multiple someones in this case
throw that are bigger and stronger thanyou, throwing these punches at you as
hard as they can in the gutwhile your arms are above your head supporting
all your weight, and your defenselessto stop it. I can't even imagine.
And considering how slight Junko was,she likely suffered broken ribs internal organ

(44:20):
damage from these suspended beatings. Reportssay that blood started to flow from Junko's
mouth uncontrollably while she was being usedas this punching bag. This would have
been caused by punctured organs, mostlikely now from being suspended and beaten.
Junko was then stretched out on thefloor on her back, feet secured,

(44:42):
and her hands tied above her head. That's when heavy weightlifting dumbbells were dropped
on her stomach and chest. Withagain no way to lessen the blow because
she's fully restrained, she just hadto lay there and take it. She
the fucking seventeen year old girl.Junko's head was jump while her face was
held against the concrete floor. Thishappened multiple times. At one point,

(45:06):
her captors left her alone, figuringshe was too well beaten and weak to
try to escape. But that's exactlywhat this incredibly strong woman tried to do.
Even after the extreme torture Junko hadgone through, she worked up the
strength and couraged to try to escape, to make it to the phone to
call the police, but she wascaught. Some stories report that Junko actually

(45:30):
connected to the police, but oneof her captors, likely Hiroshi, the
ringleader the yakuza guy, took thephone from her and told the police that
the call was a mistake and promptlyhung up The police never followed up his
punishment for trying to call the police. Her captors burnt Junko all over her
arms with lit cigarettes, then dousedher legs and feet with lighter fluid and

(45:52):
set her on fire, while anotherbottle was shoved into her anus for good
measure. And don't forget Junko's continuallyraped throughout all this by both people and
objects. By this point, itwas difficult, impossible really for Junko to
drink or eat anything because of thedamage to her stomach and internal organs.

(46:13):
Her body was so damaged and simplycouldn't accept the little food and water she
was given. When she was forcedto eat or drink, Junko had just
vomited all back up, which angeredher captors, so they beat her some
morech this vicious cycle. Now,by the twenty ish twentie Fish Day when
it came around, Junko was unableto walk properly because her legs were so

(46:37):
badly beaten and burnt. She wasbeaten repeatedly with bamboo sticks, golf clubs,
and iron rods. I'm talking fullon swings to this poor girl's already
bangled body, she couldn't walk, and still they're beaten the shit out of
her. Fucking pussies. More fireworkswere forced into her anis and lit cigarettes

(46:59):
lit in her vagina. Her clitterwas burnt with a lighter and the captors
laughed and laughed. Junko's hands andfingers were smashed and mashed with weights.
Small pieces of wood were inserted underher fingernails, and then the woods set
on fire. Fucking hell. Andat this point we're far into December,

(47:19):
so it's cold outside around forty degreesfahrenheit lower at night, and Juko was
forced to sleep outside on the secondstory porch with little to no clothing.
The boys would later say that Junkosmelled bad, that's why they made her
sleep outside. Besides, Jinko wasin no shape to Junko was in no
shape to run away or call forhelp. Plus she had already learned what

(47:40):
would happen if she tried to escape, so the boys didn't worry about her
being outside, So Junko just basicallylaid there, naked, freezing, agonizing
in pain, helpless to do anythingbut wait for her next round of torture.
At the hands of the sadists.Junko was crammed into a freezer and
made to stay in there for hourson end. And despite all of this,

(48:04):
despite being broken beyond repair, Junkostill found the courage and strength to
live, and once again she attemptedan escape from her hell, but again
she was caught, and again herlegs were set on fire. Junko convulsed
and passed out because of the painbrought on by her burning flesh, flesh
that was already mangled at oozing pussfrom her previous beatings or burnings. The

(48:27):
boys thought she was faking her passout, so they set her on fire
again. Unbelievably, Junko still heldon now. At some point during this
madness, a boy named kiochi Iharawas bullied into raping Junko, and after
the deed was complete, the kidran home and told his brother what was
happening back at Nobiharro Manado's parents' house, or Noble Maharo Nobu Minatto's house of

(48:53):
horrors, as I like to callit. The brother told his parents,
and the parents called the police, and police went to Nobaharo's home to investigate,
and unbelievably, his parents said thatno, there's no girl here,
and they invited the police into thehome to have a look around, and
satisfied with the offer, the policedecided not to enter the home. After

(49:15):
all, why would the guilty offerto allow the police to enter the home
and search the scene of the crime, right, so the police left.
Had they just entered and searched evena little bit, Juko would have been
found and rescued. But unfortunately thatdidn't happen, and ultimately, when this
whole case came out, the twoofficers that went to the home but didn't

(49:37):
investigate were fired. It's good fuckthem. Around the thirtieth day of her
captivity, Junko's eyelids were burned witha lighter and hot wax was dripped onto
her eyelids and face. Sewing needleswere shoved through her breasts, Some needles
left inside her breasts, and herleft nipple was mangled and ripped off with

(49:57):
a pair of pliers. The scissorswere inserted into her vagina, causing more
massive bleeding. Junko's insides must becompletely mangled and non existent at this point,
and she had completely lost the abilityto control her bowels and bladder.
It would later be discovered that Junko'sbrain had actually shrunken in size from the

(50:19):
constant trauma to the head and beingin the constant state of fear. One
of the boys said that Junko wasso crippled at this point it took her
over an hour to crawl down asmall set of stairs to go to a
lower level bathroom. Junko was sobadly damaged that the boys were growing tired
of her and instead just thought herdisgusting and useless. No longer a fun

(50:43):
plaything now. On day forty NewYear's Day, Junko begged her captors to
kill her. Of course, theywouldn't grant her that mercy. She spent
New Year's Day alone, mutilated andunable to get up from the floor.
On day forty four, Junko's finalday, she was forced to play a

(51:04):
game of Majong, which, fromwhat I could gather, is kind of
like our American card game Rummy, only as played with one hundred and forty
four tiles instead of cards. Hersmug captors challenged Dunko to the game of
mahjong challenged her smug captors challenged Junkoto a game of Majong, and believe
it or not, she won herfinal fuck you to her captors, and

(51:27):
of course this enraged her infantile tormentors, so they went on a rampage.
They beat Jugo with an iron barbell. They forced her to stand and beat
her feet with the stick. Theykicked her and punched her. They placed
two short candles on her eyelids andburnt her eyes with more hot wax.
They dropped weightlifting barbells onto her stomach. Junko was beaten so badly and so

(51:50):
much puss was oozing from her burnsthat they decided the only thing left to
do was douse her arms, legs, face, and chest with lighter fluid,
and they set her on fire again. What's this the third or fourth
time they set this poor girl onfire? At least this final act of
torture is said to have lasted forover two agonizing hours, and later on

(52:15):
that forty fourth day, Junko Ferudafinally succumbed to her injuries and died.
The animals could hurt her no more. About twenty four hours later, the
boys wrapped Junko's body in blankets andstuffed her into a fifty five gallon steel
drum and filled the drum with concrete. The drum was then ditched on a

(52:35):
tract of land in Codo, Tokyo. And in case you're wondering, I'm
not exactly sure why they kept herfor a day before getting rid of the
body, but knowing these demons, necrophilia is probably not off the table.
That was never discussed to have happenednecrophilia. But again, if these guys
could go this far, Two weeksafter Junko's murder, police arrested her Rosiano

(53:00):
and joe A Goura on a totallydifferent gang rape charge. During the course
of the questioning, the police insinuatedthat they knew about a murder the boys
were involved in, though the copswere not talking about Junko, but rather
a completely different open investigation, thedisappearance of a local woman and her seven
year old son. Now Hiroshimiano thatlittle bitch. He panicked thinking that the

(53:24):
police got the information from Joagura, who must have confessed to Junko's murder.
So he Hiroshi told the police everything, including where they could find Junko's cement
in case body. Within a fewdays, Joagura, Nobaharu Minado, Yasushi
Watanabi, and Hiroshimiano were all incustody. The police quickly located the fifty

(53:47):
five gallon drum containing Juko's body, and she was only identified by fingerprint.
It's the only way they could identifyher. Now, in court, these
demons seed They were tried as adults, but instead of being charged with torturing
and murdering this poor girl, whichcould have likely led to the death penalty
or at least life sentences, insteadthe charges were reduced to committing bodily injury

(54:10):
that resulted in death. Therefore,Hiroshimiano, the ring lader of this hellish
circus, the Yakuza guy, wassentenced to only twenty years in prison.
Nobaharro Manado was originally sentenced to justfour to six years, but was re
sentenced to a whopping five to nineyears on appeal, just five to nine

(54:31):
years. No Baharro Manado's parents, the owners of the house, were all
this took place. They were nevercharged, and neither was Nobiharro's brother.
Now, Yasushi Watanabi was sentenced tojust five to seven years and Joe ah
Gura only eight years in a juvenileprison. Such incredibly lenient sentences for absolutely

(54:52):
abhorrent crimes, but they were protectedby special provisions applied to individuals eighteen years
and y younger in Japan's court system. Now in court, two other men
were proven to be involved in theassaults because of physical evidence found on Junko's
body, including semen and pubic hair. These men were Kuichi Ihara, the

(55:13):
one who was bullied into raping Junko, and someone named Tetsu Nakamura. The
judge in the case was quoted assaying, quote, exceptionally grave and atrocious
violence had been inflicted upon the victim, Djunku Varuda had been murdered so brutally
at the young age of seventeen thather soul must be wandering and torment end

(55:34):
quote. It's kind of crazy fora judge to say something like that,
but it's the culture, right, the wandering ghost torment. Mm hmm.
Yeah. What do you think ofthat guy, the guy that was bullied
into it? You believe that hedeserves a certain sentence or something. It
must be weird, Yeah, Imean he deserves something. I don't know.
I think that's a tough one.Man, that's a tough one.

(55:58):
Yeah. So it's so weird.I mean, you know, unchecked aggression
as like putting it mildly, butlike there's this level of unchecked teenage id
roaming around here. Oh man, yeah, I mean correct, how were
you as a teenager? Was?How much of your actions? Do you

(56:19):
even control? How much? Andif it went unchecked helpful? I feel
like, are we all like this? If we're like we let it to
happen, and these guys just gotlike a weird, rare window of opportunity
to do let it run, tolet it run, and a poor and
it's in person, it was inthe wake of it whatever. I hope
this level of depravity isn't in allof us. I really do well.

(56:39):
I mean, I mean there's acertain sense of, like you believe that
humans can't be this bad. Theycan be also the complete opposite. They
can be that much good too. It's just that not these guys, right
yeah, right, Like you know, it's easy to read this story or
hear this story. I mean,in your case listeners listening into it and
see nothing but the depravity that itis and nothing hopeful and anything out there.

(57:01):
But you can also you know, you girlso ring up bring up a
fine story. That has the completeopposite reaction to that and be also true
right, because we're capable of bothright as mankind, and these guys just
feel like a lot of unchecked anger, a lot of like teenage ed nonsense,
like run amuck. It feels sovisceral that they themselves don't even know

(57:27):
what they're doing. It's like they'rejust trying things out. It's like they
just see they're not seeing a person. You know how a child can be
an actual child here, not likea young adult. An actual child can
be devastatingly brutal in what they say, what they do because they don't know
what they're doing. They don't knowwhat is or what isn't wrong. These
guys know what they're not. Theseguys know. I'm not saying they don't,

(57:50):
but I'm saying, just like akid, dude does that, can
do that, it's capable of havingno discernible whatever between right and wrong.
It seems like this is like anextreme version of that. With their upbringing
and whatever's going on that it's likeit is one hundred percent that I'm not
saying it's not their fault, butit seems just such a powerhouse of an
example of like some sort of nonaware consciousness going on. It's like it

(58:19):
just seems so unnecessarily over the top, so extra, so extra, so
extra, nothing compares to no emotionwhatsoever involved. Well, the only emotion
you get here is what you're feelinglistening to his details, to Jay's details
here. That's all the emotions youcan bring in, and that's all anything
is in that story. This storyhas nothing like that. There's no emotion

(58:43):
in the story. Like, wedon't know. We can imagine a lot
of things, Like if the parentsand the younger brother were hostage in that
situation, then I would say Idon't think they deserve anything, But like
I don't know, Like would youfight to the death as a younger brother
or the father gets beaten to stayin one place and tell the police to
get out of the you know whatever, would you fight with everything you can

(59:06):
to try to get the word out. I don't know. We'd like to
say yes, right, we wouldlike to say yes, but we're not
in this We're not in those situations. It's just such a weird mind fuck.
It's like pure evil and the sidecasts of evil that are like joined
or forced to join in with them, and it's like a weird societal thing
that's obviously aside from the junk toYeah, it's true, there's a lot

(59:27):
of repression in society, right, you know we talk oh generally speaking,
Yeah, yeah, talking about alot of that with is he Sagawa.
Yeah, it's it's there's no explanationhere. There's there's not no, no,
there really isn't. It's like alienscan see as an example to kill
us, all right or not toshow themselves right, and we have examples
here too. It's nothing, imean, nothing to do with the fact

(59:50):
that it's this particular culture. Butit can happen anywhere. It has happened
here. We have the most serialkillers in in any other country and among
other problems. But like you know, it's just insane. It's just insane.
It's insane to think about it.You can't wrap your mind around it
because you'd have to think of howyou were at that age and then somehow
find the weird, find a touchtonewhere you could have gotten that far.

(01:00:14):
I'm not even saying with another person. It could be with an animal,
could be with yourself, it couldbe with what you say, not what
you do. Right, it couldbe non violent, but you can all
have that example. But it's hardto touch back. And the older you
are, the more for a partyou are from it. Hard to relate,
yeah, hard to relate absolutely. And another thing there's you know,
there's a lot of inspiration. Thisstory has inspired a lot of things in

(01:00:36):
Japan with their with their artists particularly, there is a manga called seventeen Its
meaning seventeen years Old is a mangawith the story by Seiji Fuji and art
by Yoji Yoji Kamata, published intwo thousand and four. It depicts the
kidnapping and rape of a girl basedon the murder of Junko. Now obviously

(01:00:59):
it doesn't have her name, butit's strictly based on that. And there
is a movie called Concrete as youcan imagine from two thousand and four,
independently produced Japanese film based on themurder case. I've never seen it,
but never seen it either. Andthere are others that are not indirect,
even more like subtle than those twoexamples. I remember. Takashi Mika has

(01:01:21):
done a few, oh yeah,a couple of things that like you do,
some of your descriptors. They torturepeople in his movies that way,
and some of them are like, are meant to be like an honorific on
this horrible case, because that's one. On one hand, it's art he's
making, and he's touching back onsomething that his audience to Japanese people would
understand. You know what I mean, that's what he's doing. He's inciting

(01:01:43):
a viscerol's reaction with his scenes. So if you know this story and you
watch them, you know, youcan see how artists can take the story
into their own interest. Keep italso, keep it not fresh, but
keep it in the in the zeitgeyselflike not to be forgotten, exactly,
keep it, keep it there, don't forget, never forget, right,

(01:02:04):
never forget kind of like that, yeah now. At Junko's funeral, which
was held on April second, nineteenninety eight, one of her classmates said
in a memorial address, this isa quote, June Chen, welcome back.
I've never dreamed that we would seeyou again in this way. You
must have been in so much pain, so much suffering. The happy now

(01:02:28):
Happy is a traditional Japanese coat wornduring festivals. The happy we made you
for school festival looked really good onyou. We will never forget you.
I have heard the headmaster has presentedyou with the graduation certificate. So we
graduated together, all of us.June Chen. There's no more pain,
no more suffering. Please rest inpeace. End quote. And so listeners,

(01:02:53):
you're aware. I left a linkto Junko's funeral in the show notes.
It's in Japanese, but you reallydon't need you really need it to
be in English. The images speakfor themselves in their own universal language,
that of heartbreak and loss. Inthe video, you'll also see photos of
Junko as a whole, yeah, regular Junko, as well as the outside

(01:03:17):
of the home where all this shittook place. It's pretty interesting, so
I'll even link there. You couldcheck that out now today if you could
believe it. All four of theseassholes that tortured and rape jun Go to
death are out of prison and onthe streets. Hiroshi Miano, now going
by the surname Yokoyama, was arrestedon a number of occasions after his release

(01:03:40):
from prison in two thousand and nine. Charges include fraud and attempted murder,
and he's also done additional time inprison. Horoshi is chronically unemployed, yet
he always seems to have money andfancy cars and nice clothes, so maybe
his connections to the Yakuza were realafter all, and the other three animals

(01:04:01):
can't really find much on him.I know that Joe Agra was released from
prison in nineteen ninety nine and isnow known as Joe Kamasaku. Apparently he
got married and lived a pretty normallife until he suspected his wife was cheating
on him. Agra found the mansupposedly nailing his wife, kidnapped him,

(01:04:23):
and beat him to a bloody pulp. All the while he's saying, I've
done this before, I could getaway with killing you. I've done this
before I could get away with killingyou. Aga caught another seven year sentence
for this subduction and beating. Andbelieve it or not, I read that
Joe Agra wound up having a daughter, and I hope, I hope he

(01:04:43):
sees Junko every time he looks intohis daughter's eyes. Nubaharro Manado, who
now goes by the first name Shinji, got out of prison and wound up
beaten and stabbing a guy in theneck, and he committed other crimes and
little else is known about him today. But he is out there, he's
free, he's walking around. Asfar as Yesushi wanted to Nabi, he

(01:05:04):
seems to be the only one thatgot out of prison after a pitifully short
sentence. They all receive pitifully shortsentences. Actually, but Yasushi seems to
be the only one of the fourthat stayed down the straight and narrow and
he hasn't reoffended as far as weknow. But you literally cannot find anything
on this guy, like where heis, what he's up to. He

(01:05:25):
dropped off the map, dropped offthe map, and also this text.
In the eighties, no, notmuch cultural full print and internet especially,
so yeah, maybe never logged ontoMySpace. Well these guys got out of
prison in the nineties. Yeah, well no, yeah, yeah, yeah,
but I say, good, fuckthis guy. Let history forget his
ass, forget all their asses.Yeah, I'm sure that's what he wanted

(01:05:45):
now. Sadly, the shaming ofJunko didn't stop with her torture and murder.
Shortly after Junko was laid to rest, Nubaharu Minado's mother spit on Junko's
grave and she vandalized it because sheblamed Junko for ruining her son's life.
Can you believe that shit? Nofucking forgot that part. Nobaharromanado's parents were

(01:06:06):
ordered to sell their house and handover four hundred and twenty five thousand in
Japanese yen two Junko's parents as compensationfor their son's involvement in Junko's torture,
rape, and murder, but insteadthe money was given to three of Junko's
killers upon their release from prison. With this money, it said, the
boys took lavish vacations and bought themselvesall sorts of nice shit. Not a

(01:06:30):
penny went to Junko Feruda's parents. Not that money would have stopped their anguish
or brought their daughter back of itexactly, just another slap in Junko's face
and her family's face. Yeah, and that, listeners, is the horrifying
case of Junko Feruda. If youwant to follow the story deeper, A

(01:06:51):
number of books have been written aboutthis case. There's a movie called Concrete
that Oscar mentioned that's based on thiscrime. There's been a lot of maga
based on this murder case of JunkoFuruda, but probably the most notorious manga
is called and I'm Gonna Fuck thisUp Shouin and daire you can, or

(01:07:12):
High School Girl in Concrete by waltaUziga. Okay, walta Uziga, which
is a pen name, and it'sa pen name that's strikingly familiar to it
familiar to a Japanese phrase that translatesto the maggots gush fourth. So that
should hopefully get an idea. Yeah, about this guy's style and his mindset.

(01:07:33):
Yeah, so apparently he's incredibly popular, but this stuff is nasty that
he draws. It's a style calledguru which focuses on extreme gore and mutilation,
and most consider his High School Girlin Concrete manga his most brutal work.
And I've seen excerpts from this mangaand it's disgusting. Yeah, there's

(01:07:55):
definitely not I have not a fewof his, but I have a few.
Yeah. Likewise, there's an animecalled seventeen Psai based on very loosely
on it. They changed the endingprobably to be more hopeful because it's pretty
horrible. But there is a shortlived anime you can watch as well that
does very similar Oh, okay,Yeah, I wasn't sure. I was

(01:08:18):
going to cover this one. Whatwould you say, is like the detail
that hurts you. It feels likemore visceral to you. I think some
of the most visceral stuff for meis the suspended beatings and the beatings where
she's secured on her back, legsoutstretched, arms stretch above her head.
These guys, I mean, she'ssuch a slight has such a slight frame.

(01:08:41):
Yeah, a seventeen year old girlnot being able to do anything to
stop those blows or try to protectyourself from the bill, just taking it.
I can't even imagine what that's like. Yeah, well, none of
this, I can't imagine nothing.Yeah, never experienced this kind of thing.
Usually that or the jumping on herhead when he faces against concrete.
I mean, what what do youthink they're not right? The light bulb

(01:09:05):
over me? Hits I say,so that the light bulb when they something
about it, and then it's justsomething really better. I I don't know
a lot of parts of the storyis like that for me. You know,
the real this is not positive byany means, but a small positive,
weird thing about this movie as faras like how legendarily it is.

(01:09:26):
I mean, this happened, andit's happened in the eighties and we're talking
about it in twenty twenty two.So there's something to be said there about
that brutality, the very specific natureof what's going on. But more importantly
is that the one we remember isn'tthe killer so much is Junko Faruta.
Her name is the prominent thing thatmakes everyone remember what happened. Unlike most

(01:09:49):
nightty cases of the world out thereregarding murderers, even one off or spree
killer, serial killers especially, weremember the murderers and not in this case,
though, it's the victim that isprominent. And there's something to be
said that her legend lives on inthat sense because she's the victim here and
she is the reason why it hasstayed on for thirty years. A great

(01:10:14):
point, What a great point.Yeah, you're right. I researched this
ship for the show all the time. I couldn't tell you one of Richard
Speck's murder victims I've covered that Idon't remember. It's terrible to say,
Bundy can't tell you a single one, dah, I'd have to look it
up. You know. Gacy Iremember because he was close to home and
blah blah blah. But you're you'reabsolutely right, and it's a shame we

(01:10:38):
don't remember the victims, right, you know. Good point, Thank god
we remember in this one. Yeah, because this is probably the worst one
we've done. Yeah, for me, it is what a way to come
back. Yeah, I don't know. Yeah, I'm not sure it's going

(01:10:58):
to release before Christmas after Oh right, okay, well Merry Christmas, Happy
New Year, Happy Chinese New Year, happy before that. I thank you
for listening. Any final thoughts,No, that was it. How did
I usually sign off? Oscar?Take us home? That's right, Yeah,

(01:11:41):
take us home, that's right.
