Well, I'm not admitting I knowthat I'm my hart Is critic. I'm

(00:44):
just trying to deal with it.I take it back because it's incomplicating you
with symbol. We are looking forsomething. Must now and get Unconditional now
on its Amazon, Spotify title andall of the major digital outlets from FCB

(01:07):
Records. Welcome back to Take two. Today we have Barbara Daniel, owner,
publisher and editor of Cleveland's Woman's Journey. How are you today? I'm

(01:29):
doing great. Thank you for havingme, Thank you for being on my
show. I'm happy to have youhere, so thank you. Can you
tell me a little bit about yourjournal? Our journal started in two thousand
and four. The founder, LindaPlotter. She saw a copy of a
similar magazine in Chicago, and shebrought it home. She contacted it's a

(01:51):
national syndicate and contacted them. Igot the licenses and decided to start a
magazine in Cleveland, and I mether right after she was beginning the magazine
and we sort of collaborated on things, and then I bought into the magazine
later that year. It's really ourmission is to empower women's through knowledge and

(02:14):
knowledge about all kinds of things thathelp them make educated decisions, whether it's
about their health, their finances, health, fitness, everyday lives, their
families. It is just a wayto provide information and resources to the women
of Cuyahoga County, Okay. Ilike that. I like that. So

(02:36):
my question is what got you intojournalism? It was It was one of
those things when circumstances happen and you'reready to accept them. I was in
financial services, insurance and securities fortwenty five years, and when I met

(02:59):
Linda and we started talking about mypurchasing part of the magazine, it just
seemed like a good fit. Iwas bored with what I was doing.
It seems, you know, twentyfive years is a long time, and
it was time for me to starta new career. But I wasn't thinking
that publishing would be the new career. I was just thinking it was time

(03:20):
for a new career. And Iwas sixty when I decided to do that.
So it's never too late to decideyou want a new career and go
for it. That's very motivational.Actually, I like that. So tell
me a little bit more about thetopics that you have please our topics.
Yes, well, we even likethe topics that nobody else likes to talk

(03:44):
about, domestic violence, rape, sex trafficking, heroin. We support those
organizations. We've been sponsors of theirevents, and you will see that other
than one TV media, most ofthose don't have any print sponsors whatsoever.
We felt that it was definitely neededas women supporting women, and those are

(04:10):
problems people do not want to talkabout. So we're able to provide information
and resources so they don't have tosay who they are. It's there in
the magazine. They can contact theorganizations that can help them. They can
refer them to women they know thatmight be in those situations. So those
are tough topics. Others are youknow how to stay healthy, keeping fit,

(04:34):
plastic surgery than other things for yourface and neck and so on that
aren't sturgical, that might be laseror you know certain injections that are non
surgical but still helpful, and youknow how to find a nursing home,
about attorneys about your complexion, youknow from dermatologists. And then we get

(05:00):
other topics. We'll have about orthopedics, shoulder problems. The biggest portion of
our magazine is about health and wellnessand anything that falls under that category.
And one of our favorite topics isintegrative wellness, which is all those topics
outside of traditionals such as yoga, acupuncture, reiki, massage, hypnotherapy,

(05:26):
and things like that. So wereally cover a wide range of topics.
Okay, this question is like alittle off subject. What is reiki?
Oh boy, I just had reiki. My gala does facials. Is does
your facial and then she does reiki. Reiki is basically they're they're only touching

(05:49):
you sometimes most of the time they'rejust moving the energy through your body.
So are they're handling over your yep, over your body, moving the energy
through your body because sometimes our energygets misplaced, and so they have a
technique and there is a legitimate trainingfor it. It's not just something anybody

(06:13):
can do. And I've had itdone by several people and it is amazing.
It's almost like getting a massage. You really feel something at the end
of the day. So it's it'svery good. Okay, so let's understand
why I was confused. Okay,So now my actual question was who are
some of your writers? Our clients. Our clients do the writing. I

(06:39):
think that's what makes us unique andwhy our clients like us so much is
they have the opportunity to write aneducational article for our magazine and then they
usually include an ad of sometime withthe article. They can write better because
it's their business, their passion comesfrom their heart. I could certainly write

(07:00):
it, but it would sound likeme Like each of our clients writing their
own articles. It's them, theirtheir passion comes through, so it's a
much better way to do it.That's a great idea. I like that
they get to talk about their story, they get to tell you it's their
words, it's their minds, everythingthat they felt, so they I like

(07:23):
that. I love that. Butmy next question was, how do they
become part of your journal if theywanted to? So say we have some
women right now listening and they wantedto be part of the journal. What
do they do to get on yourjournal? It's advertising, So they just
need to contact us. I meanall of our articles and everything, they're

(07:44):
all advertisers, some of them withus since two thousand and four, some
of them with us for a muchshorter time. But we have very loyal
readers and very loyal advertisers. Sowe have many different packages. So it's
a pricing. So depending on aperson's budget, they can do a small
package, they can do a bigpackage. We help them design what is

(08:07):
right for that particular business and alsofor their particular budget. So you,
Doug, I say, hey,how can people find the magazine? It
is an over a thousand location throughoutCuyahoga County, including all of the libraries,

(08:28):
the public, the private, theCleveland the county and all the libraries,
hospitals, medical buildings, the universities, colleges, every place imaginable where
women go, beauty salons, fitnesscenters, spas. Yeah, they are

(08:50):
everywhere, over a thousand locations. So if a reader, we have a
digital version on our website, andour website is Women's w O M E.
N s hyphen Journal dot com.Our digital version is on our website,
so they can go there and ifthey call me, I can give
them and tell me where they liveor work. For instance, I can

(09:13):
help them find a free copy. It's free. So that's why we have
so many locations that carry our magazine. Where do you see the direction of
the magazine in the next five years? Wow, I was hoping I'd be
retired this year, but that didn'thappen. So the next five years we

(09:33):
have gone from tabloid newsprint to glossymagazine and then to digital plus our print.
So in five years, I don'tknow what's coming up in technology.
We do. We have a videoon our website that I had done about

(09:56):
advertising about your message, and I'mnot sure each issue is different. We
try to make it fresh every issue. Our readers like the print, so
we're never going to abandon print tojust do digital. We realize we have
to have digital too. We havea Facebook, we have Twitter, we

(10:18):
have a social media gal who takescare of the things for us. Maybe
we'll be doing Oh, I don'tknow what else is out there. I
don't even know what else is outthere, so we may be on another
platform in five years where we're doing, you know, whether it's Instagram or
whatever, the new one the flavorof the week is. We may be

(10:39):
doing something like that as well. But our commendment is to print because that's
what our readers tell us. Theylike to have the magazine in their hand.
Okay, so one more time.Let everyone know how to subscribe to
your journal. Okay, they canfind it online. Our website is Women's

(11:00):
w O M E N s ApostleI'm sorry, hyphen journal dot com and
you'll find the digital version there. And if you can't find you know,
if you don't like reading digital likeI don't, you can find a copy
and you can just call me attwo one six two to eight one three
seven nine. Let me know whereyou live or work, and I can

(11:24):
help you find a free copy inyour neighborhood. So, do you have
an event coming? We do havean event, but it's it's a little
different. We don't really do women'sevents because we sponsor so many events,
like we're sponsoring the Susan Coleman comingup, the Celebrating Women, the Dress

(11:46):
for Success Wine and Shoes event, the Ronald McDonald House, another women and
wine event, something about women andwine. I guess the old rack walk.
I mean, we sponsor all ofthese events, so we don't We
don't normally have our own events anymorebecause we sponsor so many events. But

(12:07):
let me find we are having asocial media event, and that can be
found on our website. We havean event page and also in the digital
version of the magazine that can alsobe found. So I'm looking for that
page now. Okay, So itis from our social media expert talking about

(12:31):
it's a workshop of what is thebest way to be posting, how to
handle negative feedback that you might getthat you don't like. Obviously it is.
Actually it's a two day workshop. It's an avon at the Redtail Golf
Club and it's November ninth. There'salso one in September, and I'm sorry,

(12:52):
but I can't find the date inhere. There's one in September as
well. So I just suggests thatthey go to our website and find that,
find a digital version or the postingon our event page, and all
those events I just told you about, they're listed on the page, including
the link for registration. So anytimewe put an event on our event tab

(13:16):
on our website. There's always alink to register or a phone number to
call for more information about a particularevent, because there are a lot of
them coming up in the next fewmonths. Okay, So I would like
to thank you for coming onto myshow, Miss Barbara, Well, you
are so welcome. Thank you forhaving me. I enjoyed it, no

(13:37):
problem, I enjoyed it myself. So I hope you have a nice dress
of the day. Thank you youtoo. Bye. We'll be right back
