you today? I'm good, Thanksfor having me, Thank you for coming.
You are director and casting director,aren't you right? I am a
producer and casting producer and casting director. Okay, okay, So can you
tell me a little bit more aboutyourself so the guests can know. Sure,

my company name is hops Out andit is an umbrella for producing and
casting. I focus mostly and I'malso a partner for Skip Thomas Productions,
and that's where I do most ofmy producing work. I mostly focused on
independent film. That's kind of mypassion, my love is to help grow

the independent film community here in Cleveland, Ohio, and I am usually on
set either producing or casting or alittle bit of everything. Okay, Okay,
So when did you start producing?I actually started as a casting director
six years ago. Six years ago, yeah, and then from there it
(02:28):
developed into producing because, like Isaid, I focus on independent film and
sometimes I was finding out that independentfilmmakers would shoot more if they had a
little bit more help, like ifthey had some producers to kind of help
them with the project, and kindof expanded into producer. Okay, So
what are some of the projects backin the day that got you, you
(02:51):
know, wanting to produce, gottand you want to do casting. Can
you tell us some of them?Well, you know, I actually started
as an extra on the set ofAlex Cross. That was a movie with
Tyler Perry. It was his firstdramatic do well all because you know,
everybody knows him for comedy and hewas kind of doing a dramatic scene.

But from there I really became interestedin behind the scenes. Like it was
just so inspiring to me to beon a Hollywood set. So that kind
of led me and my partner atthe time, her name is Delusca McGee,
and starting up a casting company.And what we found is that there's
a lot of awesome talent here inCleveland and they were looking for an outlet
(03:38):
like we want to we want toact, we want to be in something,
you know. So from there,our first project was with like Barry
who was not my partner, andthat was called the Skip Thomas Project and
it was actually a really cool movie. It was a feature film, but
it was composed of four short filmsand we had it in a theater at

Soul and Cinemas and m six hundredand fifty people came out from Yeah,
it was just amazing. It wasjust like and from there we had the
bugs and it's been on it.So who was some people that inspired you?
Um? Actually, my first inspirationsare my daughters, because I was
(04:23):
a very happy stage mom. Myyoungest daughter, she's seventeen now, but
she's been acting in mostly theater.Uh four, so she was like eight
years old and my oldest daughter.She is in LA. She is aspiring
to be an actress. Soul justkind of following their careers and helping them

in the business. Um, definitely, definitely yeah, Okay. Was there
any professional inspiration there along the way? Yes? Uh Shanda Rhymes. I
think she is just one bad youknow, Mamajama. He does it all
and just knowing her story and seeingher grow and become the powerhouse that she

is for an African American woman inthis industry has been very inspirational. Okay,
And I want us to know forour guests, could you explain a
little bit more on Skip Time ProductionsSkip Timea's production. Yes, that is
a production film filmmaking house that Ipartner with Mike Berry and we have just

an awesome partnership because Mike Berry isvery if you don't if you don't know
him, you gotta go on hisFacebook page because he's also a motivational speaker,
so he will get you up andgoing in the morning. He does
these one minute this real rap segmentof motivational speaking. But he is very
super creative, so he does allthe creative side of the business, so
(05:54):
directing, filming, you know,post production, all of that, and
then I do all the business usin and we work together really well because
we both have those strengths and itjust really works. Okay, okay.
And I was also told and whenI was doing some researcher on you,
you're working on a movie right nowfrom Hey mister Postman. Can you tell
(06:15):
us a little bit about it?Yes, Hey, mister Postman is filming
right now. It's a comedy andit is from the It is from the
brain of Brian Berry. He hasno relation to Mike Berry. So it's
so funny because you know they're workingtogether on this project, but he wrote
it. It has been his babyfor I think he's said like four years
and he's finally being able to bringit to fruition. So we started filming
(06:41):
last Thursday. We finished our firstfour days of set and we've been having
a ball. So it's it's it'sa comedy. It's about a postman who
just has just on his route.He just has these characters and this day
that is just hilarious and will definitelywant to check it out. Okay,
So tell me some funny things thathappens on the set of Mister Postman if
(07:05):
you can, well, I can'tgive away any spoilers. But our lead
character, his name is Walter Franks, and you've probably seen in some things.
He's done some some he's been onsome Hollywood sets, and he is
just naturally funny. So the scriptis already hilarious, and when we're like
(07:26):
not even filming, he just doesand says some of the funniest stuff.
So we're like in stitches all dayevery day. So it's been a really
fun set. Okay, okay,So what is some advice you to give
to some people that you know ifthey want to take on in your footsteps?
You know, you're very motivational,you're amazing African American woman who's doing
(07:48):
all this amazing things. What aresome advice that you can get to some
of our guests? Well, thankyou very much. Um My advice is
to if it's a passion, ifit's something that you you think is it's
what you want to do, justjust do it. Um. I would
say, do a little bit ofresearch because it's a it's a little bit
(08:11):
more. No one knows what theproducer does, but everybody knows that the
producer is important, but it's alot of work involved. But if you
have passion, if you're resourceful,if you're good at organizing and putting things
together, then producing maybe something thatyou want to look into shadow a producer,
get on a film set in turn, just to see if that's something
(08:35):
you want to do. Like Isaid, I started at wanting to be
an actress, but once I goton a set and just kind of experience
some of the things behind the scene, it was like, you know what,
I think, I want to beon the other side of the camera.
So yeah, I have got anotherone. When you were younger,
did you ever think that you wouldbe where you are in today? Never.
(08:56):
I'm actually from corporate America, andum I have been. I have
a business degree from Cleveland State University. I have been, you know,
in an insurance underwriter for as longas I can remember, and I never
would have even dreamed that I wouldbe in this industry today. But you

know, God moves in mysterious ways. Um I got to a point where
I was actually downsized from my corporatejob, and that was how I had
time to be on Alex Cross andfind out that you know what I like
this? Yeah, exactly, Okay, Okay, So my next question is
going to be were there any peoplelike in high school that you know kind
(09:39):
of motivated you a little bit inanything that you were going to do in
high school? Um, you knowmy high school. I'm from Shaw Hi
Hey Shaw Him. We are sosuch a very close class and school network.

I don't know that I knew inhigh school that I would be in
this industry, but what I doknow is that I come from a very
supportive school base, and you know, they're always very supportive and they're always
cheering me on, and you know, just just give me that, right
Rode. So I wouldn't say that, you know, that's what motivated me

to be in the industry, butit certainly keeps me, you know,
level headed and willing to stay inthis industry. So if there was any

don't like that I can't get everythingI want to. I thought they were
changing that that you could do morethan one hundred forty. I was just

told what was it called a tweetline or something that you're supposed to do
well until you go one period.Yeah, I think I present. Yeah,
I'm like, that's doing a lot, but I never worked on it.
