Comedians Mark Bailey and Mike Miller talk funny about how Mark became a comedian from age 6 because of misunderstandings, Mark's stories from first grade, Mark's bicycle gift from hell story, nerdy word origins, how Latin is a rabbit hole where every word means root, and how Osaka police were detaining Mark on the night of our comedy show in Nagoya. Speaker 1 (00:01):
It's Not Funny, a podcast by Mark Bailey and other comics.

Japanese girls are easy to impress. To the Talk Funny
podcasts from Nagoia Radio Dot comed not Gooia Comedy. Here's
Mark Bailey.

Speaker 2 (00:18):
Mark Bailey, Mike Muller on Talk Funny.

Speaker 3 (00:21):
You ever heard the word h Yeah, Copasthetic means you're
good with, good with something, or good with somebody.

Speaker 2 (00:28):
If you wanted, could you say like it means like
everything's fine.

Speaker 4 (00:31):
Yeah, it means like everything is okay between us.

Speaker 2 (00:34):
Right, everybody raised your hand. If you thought that was Latin,
it sounds it sounds Latin.

Speaker 4 (00:41):
Yeah, it's not.

Speaker 2 (00:42):
Okay, it's Hebrew. I did not know that interesting, and
I don't know how it got into the language, but
it comes from oh means everything okay.

Speaker 4 (00:53):
And then it was kind of latinized.

Speaker 2 (00:55):
Yeah, it was anglicized as you do. Well, that's why
you call Hungary hung And you don't call it Magyarta,
Well now they do. But used to call it Turkey.
Now used to call Greek Greek, but now it's Atlantica,
and so uh, people just they put it, they put
c's in Hebrew and it doesn't exist. It's okay.

Speaker 4 (01:19):
Interesting. Interesting.

Speaker 2 (01:21):
I had cousin he went to Israel and he is
a Latin and major, and he goes. I kept hearing.
I said, but no, you you didn't learn heburn. He goes, No,
I haven't learned it yet. It's maybe learned before you
go to Israel. Is that helpful? Is it helpful? Recipe?

Speaker 4 (01:41):
Is that helpful?

Speaker 2 (01:42):
He goes, I don't remember that from Latin. It's not Latin. Yeah,
I'm pretty sure it is, he goes. I looked it up.
It's it's C O P A C E T I C.

Speaker 3 (01:50):
Yeah, but it's not because that I see a lot
of Latin words end with ic, right, So I.

Speaker 2 (01:57):
Don't know how that helps you in your daily life.
Doesn't how many you know? I had a first grade
story a lot of people asking Mark, how did you
become a comedian?

Speaker 4 (02:11):
M hm?

Speaker 2 (02:12):
And my answer now is well, I live in Japan,
and everybody fs for me in Japan, and then I
just talk about that, and people that don't live in
Japan think that's funny because they don't live in Japan.
And I'm not making anything up. I'm really getting hassled
by Oska. We got to Oscca police and actual police.

Speaker 3 (02:33):
Oh wow, and you're still on You're still on the outside.
So they couldn't have ended that badly.

Speaker 2 (02:42):
On the outside looking.

Speaker 4 (02:43):
And that's Mama City says it right now. So that's
a good thing.

Speaker 2 (02:48):
Dea. Mama gave me a bicycle and her brother owned
it in Osaka and it was registered there and then
he left and he's in Mongolia, as you do. And
then I tried to do the right thing, and I
thought the mic. I thought a bunch of people and
like I said, just throw this in the river, right
And I didn't cause she takes it personally. Do you
sew the bike? I feel like you don't want the bike.

(03:10):
You are perceptive, You're hearing is perfect. I don't want it,
but you need to register it. I don't want to, yeah,
So then I sent this is two months ago. Now
I sent the registration to Osaka. It's registered Oscca. You
can't rest. And then it's all this so I have
to fill out a form giving myself power of attorney

(03:35):
from the guy Mogolia.

Speaker 4 (03:37):
Oh my god, for a cheap bicycle.

Speaker 3 (03:39):
It's not even that expensive. It's like what it's like
a regular Mama chawie kind of bicycle.

Speaker 2 (03:44):
Right, yeah, and it has a rip in the seat.
I feel like going to Osaka and taking it there
and going it has a rip in it. That's not
what he bought.

Speaker 3 (03:52):
But we know, you know, when it comes to bicycle thievery,
it's always those foreigners.

Speaker 2 (03:57):
The biggest problem, Mike. It's the biggest problem in the world.
Old I don't know if it's Gaza stuff. I don't know,
Gaza blah blah radio, Gaga radio Guz. I don't know
what you're talking about Ukraine. I don't know. It's bicycle theft, Mike. Mike,
why are you talking about anything? Screw your shirt, screw
your beer. I don't care about your bicycle. You take it.
It's bicycle theft, Mike. I don't care you're talking about

(04:21):
your Your apartment is dirty, but yea yay bicycle theft. Anyway,
So I tried, I tried. I got power of attorney.
This guy somebody forced me, forced his signature. I don't know.
I hate it.

Speaker 4 (04:36):
When that happened to you.

Speaker 2 (04:36):
Was Sammy Gravano and Spotify. It was a Spotify lawyer
who did that. And then then you have to fill
out a new under registrations at that in it's two
months ago. And then no, nothing, nothing for like seven weeks.
And then the day before our show, get a phone
call bicycle office in Osaka is so Osaka police reached

(04:59):
your place? Yet? Excuse me? Who is? I think you
got the wrong number. I'm sorry, this is Steve in Boston.
May I help you? I will relay messages for mister Mark.
And so they had my cell phone number. And the
second police called and said, you have an address in Yamato.
I said, I'm not there now because I'm leaving. I'm leaving.

(05:20):
I'm down. You're not coming in here. Where are you?
Are you in the vicinity when you have talked to
And I said, uh, how do you even have jurisdiction? Oh? Ichi?
Police chiefs with us? Okay, what's this about?

Speaker 3 (05:32):
Chief?

Speaker 2 (05:34):
Is there anything else going on? Is there anyone less qualified?

Speaker 4 (05:39):
My lord?

Speaker 2 (05:40):
This is the day, this is the morning of our show.

Speaker 3 (05:42):
Now wow?

Speaker 2 (05:44):
And so they're like asking did you sign this? And
did you? I said, I don't know. There's so much
going on. I got like, you know, the Mongolian guy,
and then I didn't see it. I just put an
envelope and put it in. Can we just cancel it?
Just cancel it? You want the bike?

Speaker 3 (06:00):
M M?

Speaker 2 (06:00):
Do you want it? I got it right here. Well you
have the bike, but you're not allowed to have that.
Well she threw it. She gave it to me, and
I'm trying to if I'm going to illegally use the bike,
would I send my name? Yeah? And they said can
we see the bike? And I said, only if you
take it away from me. I want you to take

(06:20):
it away from me.

Speaker 4 (06:21):
I don't want to see it again.

Speaker 2 (06:23):
Do your God in Heaven take this cross away from me?
How many more Bible verses? Hey, osaka, the log in
your eye? The freaking sprinter in my eye? Am I
my bicycle brothers keeper? And I said, They said, we
need to talk to you some morning. I said, I
am going to my show. I have a job to
do and I'm going. I said, you can wait for

(06:45):
me here. I'll come back, but I'm going to the show.
And they said, well, just had one more questions question.
You know what, I don't care about the bike. No,
because now you know you're implicated. I'm implicated for what?
For forgery?

Speaker 4 (07:00):
Oh God?

Speaker 2 (07:01):
Contact the guy in Magolley. They said, we tried it,
we can't find him. See what I mean, what would
you do? You might forge? So I still this was
months ago. Now, I I eventually would know how it goes,
but I can't talk about it right now. So we

(07:22):
had that going on. Let's got police, police get same
day Spotify Spotify spotifies.

Speaker 4 (07:30):
You brought two jurisdictions together, bringing people together.

Speaker 2 (07:33):
Can it prove Sammy Gravano, which is the proper center? No,
I could prove he was not because I will state
he was not, because I never said he was. Well,
you really need to say it wasn't. Are you saying
maybe he was? Why is it so important? Then I
go there and then we got a very at that show.
It is a very weird crowd.

Speaker 4 (07:53):
Yeah, but there weren't the worst. We've had worst routes.

Speaker 2 (07:57):
And then boo but I can't hear.

Speaker 4 (07:59):
Yeah, the loudness in the next room always I didn't know.

Speaker 2 (08:03):
I didn't even know that band was at Shooters that day.
But the loudness, it's just loud, and they can't hear people.
So then I assume you're not laughing. So then I
started making fun of them, and then they don't like
that because they were laughing but I couldn't hear it,
and I'm making Front of the Crown and why it's
it being such an a hole because I can't hear
your laughs because I don't have superhero all right, Mark Bailey,
