Live from the new Lional Leaver Studiosin the comic confines of the Northern Ontario.
It is the Star Wars Commonwealth Plusround Table and it's our New Year's
ZVE twenty twenties over like it ornot, I know it was a great
year for a lot of people. But you know, we got we got
to move forward. People, wehave to move forward. But we're here
(00:35):
to help you. But I'm notalone. I'm gonna introduce my round table
real fast, all the way fromSan Diego, California, which is might
as well be the moon compared towhere I'm sitting in Northern Ontario, Canada.
Andrea from the San Diego Saber say, Hi Andrea, Good morning everybody.
And of course I have to havemy Canadian friends. I have to
(00:55):
have one on the left coast.I'm my good friend Rob Williams. How
you doing, Rob? Generation Nextpodcast represented again? Hello there, how
are you guys? Very good?Thank you? And of course I knew
Kyle was on, so I'm wearingmy expos hat. So Kyle from Tumbling
Saber, he needs no introduction. How you doing, Kyle? I'm good,
(01:15):
I'm good. I appreciate the nod. I saw the hat on the
head and I was like, firstof all, you saved me the glare.
Second of all, you give mesome expos love. Yes, stay
tuned. It's there's a couple ofthings you're gonna You might hear something about
a drive in in seventy seven andyou might see a lobot impression. That's
kind of the new If you're playingthe Roundtable Bengal card, that's that's what
(01:36):
you got to check off. Andof course this is awesome. The maker
is with us. He what arethe founding members of our original network,
the founding member of Talk Star Wars, which is this Roundtable is still a
part of Mark Godsiff all the wayfrom the UK. Welcome Mark, Hello,
(01:56):
thank you, thanks for having me. It's such a pleasure to be
with you. Awesome guys. Onceagain, well we we just thank you
for coming on and for those inthe know, um we Mark and I
used to do a lot of stufftogether. We did a comics podcast through
Talk Star Wars. Of course theRoundtable was started out on Talk Star Wars
(02:19):
them we did a celebration together. We got a lot of history. We
just because you you left Talk StarWars doesn't we mean we've fell out of
touch. This isn't like, ohI haven't seen you in three years.
No, we've It's it just weweren't podcasting. That means I'm now referring
to myself as a recovering podcaster.I've clearly fallen off the wagon for this.
(02:40):
Uh this hour. Well, weappreciate it, um, I think,
and robcast the pusher Man, youjust keep drawing again. I have
more just one visit, just onevisit. I have more podcasts. Um.
How do I say this blightly virginities? Um? In my because I
think, Uh, there there's afew of them that went on to start
(03:01):
podcasts on this in this group.I know, uh Retroweight podcast. There's
there's a guy on there. Whenhe started out, he first words were
on this ads night of Camwell, first words were overall podcast. We're on
this show. So it's it's something. It's it's like it's like almost like
being being like a dead mother.Like it's like you take these little hatchlings
(03:23):
and you just they come on andthey're timid and scared, and then they
go out and they Yeah, definitelydefinitely not a dailer. Rob, definitely
not a dealer. Mother, justcall it as it is. Rob,
You're a kingmaker, you know.He said, all right, So um,
let's go. Let's get we tryto keep this nice and tight to
(03:43):
an hour because we've got a big, full round table. Uh. This
time around, we had a lotof announcements come out. I think we
might save a little bit, let'ssave our comments on there was an appearance
by some guy on the Mandalorian.I don't know will we'll say that to
the end. But we get alot of stuff that's been announced, a
lot of stuff was just dropped onus. I'm gonna throw it to let's
(04:06):
say Kyle first. Out of everythingthat's been announced, even just the last
month, what's tickling your fancy inthe Star Wars? Oh boy, I
almost want to say it just pickedsomething out of a hat, and I'm
excited. I'm excited for all ofit, basically, but the things that
have me revved up the most,I would have to say, I'm gonna
(04:26):
go with the Rogue Squadron movie fromPatty Jenkins, just because that came out
of left field. So that justcaught me square in the jaw, and
I'm stoked to see what she's goingto do other than that. Ahsoka one
of my favorite top three Star Warscharacters of all so that's right up on
the list. And of course Kenobiwho doesn't want to see you and McGregor
back in that role with Hayden Christensen. So those are the three that really
(04:48):
have me revd up right now.But I think on top of that,
it's just something like the Acolyte hasme most intrigued. If I can make
that distinction. Okay, let melet me rephrase the question. Then is
uh, what's what's what are youleast looking forward to as far as he's
new. And again, I'm nottrying to be this is a positive podcast.
I'm not trying to poopoo anything forme. You know that the news
(05:10):
about the Bad Bunch, it's likeit was cool in the Clone Wars.
But is this something I want?I'm like, I'm sure I wasn't sure
what the mangalorian when they announced it, so but now I yes, they
apparently they know what I want?Um is something like that with you?
Is there anything? I guess justby default the bottom rung of the ladder
(05:31):
would be occupied by a droid story. I'm still gonna watch it and probably
really enjoy it. They should havethe same theme song they did back in
The Droids, that sting sounding song. Oh oh that's that was the best.
Hey. Hey if for those watchinglive oh, you can't see it.
It's behind my light. There's ananimation cell of three. So um.
(05:55):
And also I'm an astronaut builder. So is he in the room?
Is he there? He's upstairs?I wasn't. Yeah he is, Actually,
yeah, I didn't. When mykids get sick, I can put
him in the corner of the roomand they can just watch them, make
sure no worms come in and eatmy kids. So um. So Kylie,
(06:16):
So the astromat isn't just or thesorry astromats um the Droids stories?
Uh, I haven't heard anything.I haven't heard much other than just the
splash title, like is there something? Um? Is it going to be?
Like? Oh, here, thisepisode's about R five and this episode
was about well, I guess that'spart of it is because there's so little
(06:39):
info about it that what is therereally to get excited about other than it's
a story about droids and a newhero. I'm not sure if it's animated
or live action. I think it'sanimated, but I don't know. I
mean, there's just it feels likethey're just there. They've got a wedge
of lemon. It's been squeezed, and they're gonna squeeze a little more out
of it. On the on theflip side, I'll be happy to hear
(06:59):
Anthony Daniels back one more time,at least one more time, so there'll
be stuff to pull out of it, for sure, and it's probably gonna
be a riot. I'll watch itwith my kids. They're probably gonna love
it to death, and I'll probablybe pleasantly surprised. So that's that's where
I like to keep it expectations low. Yeah, that way, when it
happens, i'll go, hey, that was that was worth it. I
think. I think that's exactly whathappened with I'm not gonna spoil anything with
(07:19):
the with Wonder Woman. And whenthat came out originally Patty and Jenkins' is
like, oh, what has shedone before? I don't know, I'm
not familiar. And then who's thisGalgadac? I don't, I don't and
then it's like, wow, thismovie is fantastic. And then the bar
was raised so high that even thoughWonder Woman eighty four was was it's it's
(07:40):
a great comic book movie. Itjust there's no way you can clear.
It's one of those things where itwas like when we first see it,
it's like, oh, this iswe have no expectation. I mean we
could say that with Phantom Menace. There was a lot of expectation with Phantom
Menace, meaning like that bar no, all right, going around the table,
Andrea, what are your thoughts?A lot of new stuff coming out
(08:03):
um Um. I'm obviously excited byAsoka um that she is currently yeah,
top three Star Wars character for me, because of all of them, she's
had the most screen time and bestcharacter development. Um. So I can't
wait to see what that produces andhow that links back with Mandalorian and the
other stories. Um. I'm actuallykind of more excited about alcolyte A.
(08:30):
It's it's in a set in theend of a high Republic, so they
have no timeline constraints. I'm gettingeither a syth or force magic vibe from
it, um, and that excitesme that that that kind of takes you
away from the fundamentalism of of Jeditype mentality. So there's a lot of
possibility for creative creativity and and uhstorytelling. Um least favorite or at least
(08:58):
excited about. It's probably and OrI'm droids. It's gonna be fun.
I expect it to be, youknow, written for a third grader and
on a Saturday morning. I'm rightthere. Um, But and Or it's
because you know his his finale point, you kind of uh limit your story
(09:18):
options. I think, I meanthey if if they can tell the story,
well, I'll be excited any more. Lore and backstory I I I
love, but by putting you're havinga finality to the character already and a
limited time spectrum. It just kindof feels feels stunted or or or handicapped.
(09:39):
Right, He's no, I know, I I hear, I hear
Rob Williams thoughts. Is there aI was. I was nodding my head
when you said and or that's myleast favorite. I have no desire to
see that. I probably will justStar Wars but um, okay, Star
Wars show. But I mean Istill like the Holiday special, but it's
(10:00):
endors just the character I found boring. I did not. I'm one of
the few that did not like themovie. But I do put a part
of the blame on myself on Rogueone because of my expectations going in.
I do put part of the blameon Star Wars and the trailers for hyping
up something that did not exist. But yeah, sorry, I don't mean
to get negative, but and Oris my least favorite, and I'm just
(10:22):
not into that sort of thing.Droyd's story. You mentioned Droyd's story.
I was like, Tales of theSand Crawler was a book that should have
been written after Tales of the Canteenand Tales of the Jado's Palace. And
I was always thinking, there's somegreat stories of how those droids got into
that sand Crawler. So this ideathat you're saying, again, I'm putting
my hopes up. But ideas ofhearing about R five D four, how
(10:43):
did he get to what happened after? You know, he ends up in
Mandalorian, right, and just allthese droid stories of things would be really
cool. And I can see Cthree people being the narrator and being the
story terror like he does in Jedi, So I'd be kind of cool.
Lando looks cool. I like thestyle of Lando. I'm curious to see
where what time it is, whetherit's just Um, whether it's after after
(11:09):
Return the Jedi, before Return theJedi, after before solo, what's going
on? I would really see what'sgoing on with that one. And who's
going to play Lando as well?Uh My buddy and Neil um my co
host had a great idea about himbeing the storyteller. I already tell you
this story about you know, justgo on and on about some sort of
droid that he hooked up with,so uh top at all I think Soko
(11:35):
would be is going to be great. But on my list above everything else
is Tales of Sorry, the Bookof boba Um. I'm that surprised me
at the end, and not justbecause the fact that rees is a lie.
I'm okay, I'm going to goon to ever told you the story
about rees Um. The fact Isaw him there just made me excited alone.
(11:56):
But this also as a big returnthe Jedi fan seeing some of these
characters return, like uh like Taskthe Core and a bit of you know,
saw Bib return. Maybe we'll seemore Boss in Denar. What happened
after that whole sale barge thing? What you know, there's a story that
needs to be told there and obviouslyBoba, how the heck did he get
(12:18):
out of that pit? And sohim it's it's like, ah, I
mentioned this on one of my videos. It's like a Disney version of the
Sopranos. And I'd like to seewhat's going on with all this and then
we could probably see and we gotming now win in any show, any
show. It's just it's it's magic. Yeah. And and bib Fortuna discover
(12:41):
carbs. I did he ever?Well the whole remember the book he was
supposed to have, as I knowit's not can anywhere. He supposed to
have his brain taken out and putit inside those bomar months hang around the
palace as it's a church again ormonastery, and so obviously that story doesn't
exist unless unless he got out andhe's like, what's you been doing with
(13:01):
my body? Leased to work itout for the back in the skull,
but yeah, I'd be very curiousto see the whole story of how it
happens, so we might get aflashback. They can't get rid of a
lot of these costumes they've made. They've got to reuse costume. Now they've
got a test. They've got tonsof corn costumes, they got all these
sort of things, so I cansee them using these these costumes and raising
(13:22):
the bid for Tuna a little bitkind of before and after sort of thing.
So excellent mark, same question goingaround, what do you again?
There's a lot to change from, and there is A Soca is obviously high
on my list, if not thetop, because of the name drop if
you had in the Mandalorian, whichI'll try not to spoil just in case
(13:43):
I don't know what we're doing withspoilers in that regard and where that show
is pointing. So definitely a Socaand Obi one, of course, because
that's that has been on my wishlist for years, in before was being
discussed or hoping for a movie. But I think just to I'm not trying
(14:05):
to be contrarian, but and Orhas really caught my imagination. And there's
a couple of things I know theguys have said. It's maybe you know,
you know where Cassian's story goes, and maybe it's not the most original
thing to dip into that character's prestory, But there is something I've picked
up in some of that footage thatthere's a character that's being deliberately obviouscated in
(14:28):
that trailer that we saw that teaser. In some of the boards, the
design, the art design behind someof the talking heads are being fogged out,
defocused. So that's called my imagination. I want to know who it's
a woman by looks of things.I want to know who she is and
what her role is in this. And I know we know what's happening to
Cassian. But as with most characterswhere you know that they're their end destination,
(14:54):
their final destination, or the factthat they're impervious, like Superman,
some of the best things you cando is introduce as appointing character who they
care about and make those the characterthat's at risk. So this this woman
that's on the artwork that they're tryingto keep from us, I'm thy keen
to see you. That is wherethis story goes. I think she might
(15:16):
be the person that we're really watchingduring Angel People know how the Titanic ended,
but yeah, it's still gross millionsand millions of dollars because of the
story that led up to it.So yeah, yeah, yeah, exactly.
And I think from a just ajust to end, just the top
of a off from myself it wouldhave to be. Um, what do
(15:37):
I want Asoka? Just just Ithink that's one of those ones. It's
because it's it I've watched it frommy adult life. That's kind of a
weird thing because I've been with allthese characters from day one. But as
as those at home playing the roundtable mingle, I saw the original Star
(15:58):
Wars at a driving theater in nineteenseven with my parents. Anyway, Um,
I just had to get that out. But the so I think out
of uh can I be a Soca? Yeah, they're at their tops,
but and again it's so hard,it's just gonna be It's almost like splitting
hairs. I don't have no ideawhat's gonna be my favorite? Obviously having
(16:18):
affinity for the for the Droids thatare coming off, I'll be watching that.
I'm a little leery because of theoriginal adaptation of the Droids cartoon back
in the eighties, but we hada holiday special a long time ago and
they redid that and the new ones, I mean as charming as the first
one was Whipster Whip but the newone is actually it is really the Lego
(16:45):
one is fantastic. So um,I'm not what happened before, isn't gonna
scare me off. But again,I think the bad Batch, I just
I don't know it was in theClone Wars. I thought that it seems
in hindsight, it seems like they'rein that bad Batch bunch or match was
in there knowing what was going tohappen. They had something else lined up,
(17:08):
so they had to create like alittle bit of history, Like because
they had limited episodes on the returnof Clone Wars, do we need that
in there? They could have doneup a lot more, But now we
know in hindsight, well maybe yeah, then wanted this little story art because
it's going to eventually spin off anddo their own show. So I'm not
poopooing it. I'm just out ofeverything. It's kind of like this big
(17:33):
Star Wars buffet right now. Youmean the bad batches, like the broccoli,
It's like, oh, I'm sureI'm gonna put some on a plate,
absolutely, but I'm not gonna letit take You mean that the you
mean the chicken balls or the shrimpor yeah, no, no, no,
I'm not gonna I'm not gonna steeranything else away because of it.
I'm very curious about with the badbatch. If they the Order sixty six
(17:56):
moment, I'm wondering what the situationwith that is. And I'm wondering if
that is how things are started, because do they have the chip? But
are they immune to the chip? What's going on with that? So that's
my biggest curiosity out of that one. Hopefully that's the primary storyline or a
part of the storyline in the beginning. That's what I'm hoping for. Is
it has it just a mini series? Is it like going to be a
(18:17):
repeating series? What is it?Don't remember reading that m I just I
am eated what I am? Andthey've got Fennick is going to be in
it at least that's right an episodeor two or something make an appearance.
So that kind of interest actually forthe nerds here, which is almost UM
so Penick shand let's let's let's backtracka little bit to UM episode seven with
(18:41):
them there's a bunch of criminals whocome take over han ship. There is
them, those guys with the circlefaces, and then there's another group there's
a shand in there is or isn'tthere a criminal whose last name is shand
yeah, one of the not theGuavian Death Gang, the other guys,
Canji Club, Canji Club things, right, Rob, there is somebody whose
(19:03):
last name in that group is Shanned. I just think nothing's by accident on
that. It's hard. Yeah,I tend to think that nothing happens by
accident in Star Wars at that level. That name was selected for a reason.
Who knows. It's curious, justcurious because that could be her son
eventually over time. So and maybeBoba's son. Maybe they have a I
would love child, and those moveson and everybody and the whole world is
(19:26):
related to each other. So yeah, that's Baby from the robo womb.
Yeah, well that's what it is. It's built there. It's it's an
incubation thing right inside there. Justit's the new version you updated. That
was the only misstep in that episode. Yeah, yeah, I think so.
Yeah, it was weird. Ididn't figure out how it all worked,
But you know Star Wars. Yeah, maybe they do like a mini
(19:48):
Camino in there and just have abunch of Baby Boba's still coming out.
That's what they do with the withthe clone guy they got off the ship.
Oh, I got another job foryou, by the way, I
want to create another mini me.So all right, okay, So what
I'm gonna do right now, I'mjust gonna let this be known to everybody
out there because there's a few thingsI want to touch on them. But
there's stuff we have to talk about. If you have not seen season two
(20:10):
of The Mandalorian, as much asI hate to do this, go away
because it's and if it hasn't beenspoiled for you already, good on you,
Like, yeah, you're you're definitelynot on social media, You're not
watching this on Facebook, You're notany anywhere around any of us. So
(20:30):
okay, so here on out,we can go ahead spoil a bit.
Um, I'm not gonna I'll letsomebody else touch on that last little bit
how they ended. You may knowit's weird, but anyway, um,
do you I've seen where I've seena bunch of memes where they're saying,
I mean, you see the onewith JJ Abraham saying you can't please everybody,
(20:52):
like the og crowd and the prequeland the and the and the sequel
crowd, and these John Fabris likeor hold my beer, m those moments.
This is happening what we wanted asot fans or what I wanted.
I'm just gonna just I'm not gonnaspeak for everybody. I wanted what happened
after Jedi, right again, becausethat's where I left off. I wanted
(21:17):
to know what happened after Jedi, and then the only thing I had after
Jedi was a Thrown trilogy. Andnow what name pops up five years after
Jedi Thrown? I mean, andnow we have this new character Aska that's
sprinkled in and that's you mean,So that's awesome, And of course there's
links to Ezra and Sabine and allthat other stuff. So basically, what
(21:40):
we're having is what we wanted asOT fans, and again with the Thrown
trilogy and the early nineties because thatwas the only thing we had. It's
like that's a lot of us cravedit. So now we're getting five years
after Jedi. M what's happening withLuke? What's happened with the Jedi Order's
now you're getting getting hints of Thrownand everything else. It's like, basically,
somebody was listening to me. Iguess, I don't know, like
(22:04):
again, and I'm I like,I like the sequel to relies they got
nothing wrong. If you're gonna putout a new Star Wars show or Star
Wars movie, I don't have tolove it, but I'm not gonna go
on line and poopoo it. TheResistance cart animated series wasn't for me.
But it's not like I'm gonna Imean, scorched the Earth because they made
something that Rob Cast disagrees with, like it's or it doesn't or it doesn't
is it entertained by or is iteven made for someone a forty seven year
(22:26):
old white guy from Sudbury, Ontario, like like, so you know what
I mean? Like again, I'mventing at it was in their mission state
exactly, Yeah, he was inthe opening crawl specific exactly, Rob stop
lotching. What did you do?Rob? Who did you upset? Which
one? Um? So basically,But now I'm seeing this Mandalorian. It's
(22:52):
got that old school look. It'sfilmed very similar. We're getting a lot
of the there's fan service everywhere, even even even the Reese fans are excited.
Well the Reese sorry the correction, the Reese fan in the room.
No, it's me and Ben bothMeg's notorious. And of course the reveal
(23:17):
at the end. Um. I'msure most of us saw this coming.
But yeah, Luke Skywalker making anappearance as a jed a night so around
the horn, I'm gonna throw atKyle firstcause because keep things in order.
Um, so what are you? What are you thinking of this new Star
Wars Luke Skywalker thrown Yeah, Yeah, it seems like they've built themselves almost
(23:40):
an MCU style universe on the DisneyPlus side of things. Where they've left,
They've planted lots of different seats forthem to explore. And the way
I'm thinking of it, I thinkLucas film with in tandem with Disney has
sort of evolved what their plan is, whereas you know, going we've just
celebrated the eighth year of Disney takingover, and so I think originally,
(24:03):
of course they hadn't you know,Disney Plus was not really a thing in
their brain at that time, soeverything was about theatrical releases. And eventually,
now we are in twenty twenty movingout of it, and it's all
about Disney Plus and how are wegoing to populate this platform? And so
they've I think they've evolved from let'swe can now space out our movies because
we don't know what the hell we'redoing post episode nine, and we don't
(24:26):
know what direction to take this.We don't know. It seems like theatrical
fans want two separate things, andhow do you make that a coherent thing
for a theatrical release. So okay, let's put that aside for a minute
and let's just mind the hell outof Disney Plus and let's give them all
kinds of stuff. Let's talk aboutLuke, let's throw in Grand Admiral Thron,
(24:48):
Let's bring a Soca back into themix, and let's build this all.
It seems like with Asoka and withMandalorian Rangers of the New Republic,
which we didn't mention before, butthat's part of it. It seems like
they're doing this MC style build uptowards a confrontation with Thrown and his forces,
perhaps which might lead us closer tothe sequel trilogy and the First Order
(25:10):
origins. That's kind of where myhead's at. I'm excited for that.
I always wanted to say, like, I want to go forward. I
want to see what happened after Riseof Skywalker. I want to I want
to go past all this stuff.I don't want to worry about the backstory
and the Lord of the Details. But it seems like Star Wars fans almost
split down. I want the backstoryof the Lord of the Details, the
checkmark the boxes I want to Iwant that info and pushing ahead. But
(25:33):
I'm an easy mark. I willtake it all. You know, I'm
a bottomless hole when it comes toStar Wars content. So bring it all
on. I'm excited for all ofit, and especially now that they've they've
fleshed it all out, it seemslike to me that this might be where
it's headed. I gotta agree withyou, but also I am again I'm
by Wars. I'm also a bigStar Trek fan. And what people wanted
(25:56):
most when the reboots are happening, everything else it's like, no, what
happens after When Voyager finished What's Next? Like everybody was like, yes,
I get it, Kurt, Yeah, he was awesome, Okay, cool?
Whatever? It was just you know, I mean it was It's it's
almost that same sentiment where like, let's push forward a little bit here,
even though there's lots to be mine, but there's lots to be done,
(26:18):
and but it's just it's it soundsit's it's it. Just give us something,
tell us we want to turn thepage on the story, right.
And the biggest sorry, I mean, the biggest analogy I can come up
for it is is we've got up. We've all these forty years we've had
a puzzle, and we put thepuzzle together, and then after episode or
after Return the Jedi came out,the puzzle was complete, and then the
(26:40):
prequels came around and we said,oh, it's not complete. Actually we've
built the bottom half of the puzzles. Now we're gonna build the top half
of the puzzle. And then Disneytook over. Turns out, oh,
we didn't have that at all,So you got to redo the puzzle and
fill it in again. And itseems like with every announcement we're the same
puzzle is just being organized. We'rerebuilding the edges of the puzzle and then
(27:03):
filling it in again. What whatI'm hoping for at some point is to
say this puzzle is now complete, and you push it to the side and
say, take the box, emptythe pieces on the floor. We're building
a new puzzle. It doesn't connectto that one, right and other than
by name, yep, no,and I agree with you. And again,
like I was saying, with wantingto turn the page on the next
step, but that's that was mysentiment. I understand five years after Return
(27:25):
of the Jedi, yes that isbefore him Forest awakens, but I mean,
that's that's my next page. Again, I understand that's kind of going
backwards a bit, but again it'sit's just wanting to continue our favorite stories.
Andre this man Aline drawn loop back. You're you're a Saber guy.
You must know, right, I'mleaning on the heretical because even though I
(27:49):
understand why Luke came back and he'sa fan favorite and I appreciate him,
I actually was kind of disappointed thatit was him. And either way school
I just wanted something that didn't havea Skywatcher fingerprint in it. Um I
I kind of you know, whenyou put Skywalker in and then you once
(28:11):
again you're starting to put you know, fan expectations and handicapping yourself going okay,
well now we kind of know whatLuke kind of was doing during this
time period, so now we haveour expectations. They're different now. I
too, am a Star a StarTrek fan. Actually, Star Trek was
my original fandom. My first howdo we end this skull again? This
(28:32):
is this is my one and onlyappearance on the Round Table. Um.
But um, I am currently watchingthe New Star Trek and I appreciate the
fact that they literally jump a thousandyears um and so that's also why I'm
really excited about the High Republic stuff. It's it's even though it's backwards in
the timeline, it is untapped timeperiod. There's there's no real um weights
(28:55):
that you have to our anchors, that you have to really hit besides certain
basics, you know, so Iyou know when you put brought Luke back
in, like I said, andyou know, traditionally we only have like
two or three choices. So I'mnot I'm not saying I didn't I didn't
enjoy I didn't fist pump the wholebattle, the fight scene with the Death
Troopers. I didn't, you know, I didn't have that moment. But
(29:15):
at the same time, I'm like, could we have done something different?
And these guys have done beautiful storytelling. I have absolute faith in what they're
going to do next because they haveyet to disappoint me, even though they
had a couple of distraction episodes, which I when we only have eight,
I'd rather have more. Um.But by bringing Luke in, you've you've
(29:37):
kind of put our expectations in acertain spot where I don't know if I
want to have those expectations. Whowould you have chosen? I don't know.
That's the thing. They didn't.They didn't put any groundwork for any
of the other characters. As Ezrahad been fun because it would have been
an interesting point if they have Asokaand the and and the throne stuff pretty
mapped out, because then you justkind of throw that out there. You
(29:57):
push Mandalorian back a season because thenyou put Boba in there, and then
you put a Soak, and thenthen you bring Mando back. But that's
you know, andre fantasy. Um. You know, but that but you
and I fantasize about completely diverything anywayfair enough, you know. Um,
(30:18):
I just I want a broader, broader scope of storytelling. And when you
bring Luke in, you kind ofput our expectations in a certain flow of
direction. UM, And I Icould be wrong. You know, in
a year's time we get together again, you can grab a big rock smack
me in the head with it.Because I was wrong. Um, but
currently I'm I'm leaning that way.Okay, yeah, we we don't have
(30:41):
other Jedis to choose from. Justwhile, I got you on on the
comparison to Darth Vader and Luke Guywalker, they're they're they're saber fighting abilities.
Did that was that I'm not inthe know and I had this conversation.
I used to have this conversation withSteve all the time. I'm like,
oh, when Obi Wan killed Mallat the end of Rebels, that looked
(31:04):
for really He's like, yeah,of course, elatory. So I'm asking
you, yes, it was.We seen the side by sides with a
rogue one and with the animal oryof what is there something us Layman's are
missing? No, No, it'sthey obviously took their their cues from the
(31:25):
rogue one scene. Um. Thereare those who are speculating on well is
that dark side stuff? And mostof it isn't in my opinion, Um,
except maybe the crushing the bot atthe end. You know that kind
of was a little overkill. Ums, that's that's why. So so that
he wasn't killing you know, that'skept him in his Jedi line. Um.
(31:49):
No, the style is similar.I mean that's you can it's it's
where you get the difference between likea soak fighting style which is very active
and physical, which we're sorry youdid a lot of that. But um,
when when you look at Obi Wan, you look at Qui Gon,
you look at Luke, they tendto be very more linear, very straightforward,
for a lot more effortless in thethey're just kind of mosying through where
(32:10):
where there's you know that's different thedifferent forms, And I could geek a
little bit on that, but it'snot necessary. Um, but no,
it it it showed that that youknow, he got some of that training
from Obi one, which same withAnakin did um you know, so that
kind of there's there's touch points there. Um And so no, it's it's
(32:32):
it's it's it's the the choreography wasobviously had both both scenes in mind.
So um, I wouldn't wouldn't youknow going two nuanced on Form one versus
four and three or Form five typething? But um no, it's it's
obviously showing that he's had he's reachedmaster level. Yeah, it's just in
his fighting at least my opinion.Fantastic. Can I throw a hot take
(32:55):
on top of that here, sowe've seen the shot of course Vader in
the hallway with a saber ignited versusLuke. For me, what that scene
brought about is that everybody in thegalaxy is terrified of anybody with a glowing
death stick. Yeah, yeah, because in Rogue one, it's we see
Vader through the eyes of those haplessguards, right, and they're all screaming
(33:17):
for their lives, Vaders walking throughand he's chopping them all up without even
a sweat. And it's kind ofthe same thing in Mando, where we
see Luke's actions through the eyes ofBocatan din Jar and all the people on
the bridge, including Moff Gideon, who's terrified with Luke here and we're watching
(33:37):
Luke mo through these dark Troopers, which gave our Mandalorian of all kinds of
fits. So I don't see itas necessarily a tribute like Father, like
Sun kind of thing. Here's badassLuke. To me, it's everybody is
afraid of Jedi and Sith. Sowe're you know, the last five years
of Star Wars have done this umgraying of things good and evil. Ass
(33:59):
just point of view, and that'sall that stuff has kind of been uh
muddied, and I think what wegot was some of that as well,
where it's people are afraid of theJedi. You don't understand him. They're
terrified as they're terrified of Luke's Gouwalker. We're crying. I'm crying watching Luke,
my hero. He's back, andwe're all fist pumping and going crazy
because we know Luke, but everybodyelse is terrified of this guy. And
(34:21):
I think that's a story point thathas kind of gone amidst all the happiness
and joy went under the radar.Yeah, and and also the dog that
with the Empire saying that Jedi areare trash for the last twenty years in
that universe. I mean, ofcourse he's gonna be gonna be I was.
I was probably the only one Ithought when I saw the X Wing,
I thought maybe Perkins lived, Andboy was I disappointed. And who
(34:47):
wouldn't be one tie fighter. Let'soh it's Perkins there, right, all
right? Rob williams um and canyou keep your your ees comus to under
fifty? I'm done. I'm sorry, no, no, that's my note.
So we're talking about it. Theend of mental knocking on your door,
pushing my religion here, um theU. I okay, So first
(35:08):
of all, we were thinking we'retalking about Jedi. I can I understand
what you're saying, Andre, becauseI did not think they would actually go
there. I didn't think they wouldactually go to loop. It was was
too obvious in my mind. Imean, but I loved it. I
absolutely loved it. I was,I was, I was. I thought
it was the best. Um kylquestis possibly if you know fallen order.
(35:30):
I just thought, maybe if youwere for going into that little thing,
you can possibly Kyle castus there asas a guy who's not known well,
um, but a representative of lootto pick up maybe got message that sort
of attitude, and um Leiah,I was thinking, could that be another
one? It's just it's just toomuch. Um who else I couldn't see,
(35:52):
You couldn't have um, you couldn'thave anybody else really, So I
really enjoyed it. As for oneof the things I noticed people complain about
the deep fake on this, UM, I for years, I've been watching
a puppet Yoda. I've been fora couple of years, and now I've
(36:12):
been watching a puppet baby Yoda it'snever real to me, but you we
learn to as fans as as moviewatchers to put that aside. My favorite
movie, um, next next tothe Star Wars is Tron Legacy definitely,
And the facial stuff they did tomake him young is not perfect, but
(36:32):
I put that aside. It's it'sactually really good. I can lose myself
into it because it is a digitalworld. So when I see things like,
yeah, it wasn't true the Forcethere was that on Kenny Valley sort
of thing, but I put thataside. And if I can put it
aside for a puppet baby Yoda,and I get again, I just it's
not perfect. The baby Yoda isyou know, when it walks, it's
(36:55):
still still a part of me islike, yeah, it's still a puppet.
But you put aside because it's thestory and he sells up with the
stories. So when Luke came backand I was like, no, how
they're going to do this? Mybrain was was questioning, how how is
this, Luke? How? Andhow awesome is this? And um,
it's my favorite. You talked aboutmemes. My favorite one is, um
(37:16):
is that picture of those two kidsjust with the ad at and the scout
Walker just playing to playing with toysback in the eighties. Just look like
they're having the best time of theirlife. And this is this is like,
um, what was the what theysaid? This is um, thank
you planning out Star Wars world andit's just the two kids having fun and
(37:39):
this is their sandbox and I'm lovingit. Feloni is the new Lucas and
um, I say almost better. He can't say better because it is Luca's
stuff. But he knows how totell a story, knows humor. Favre.
I just watched a bit of theelf Um movies. How It's made
Christmas, We've made yeah making. He's a great storyteller because he has the
(38:04):
heart of Star Wars as a kid. And I think that's what's fun about
this. And sometimes the obvious canwork. They've done fan service. Well,
now there will be a point Ithink, well, they will push
the boundaries and that's fine, that'sjust what happens. You're not going to
hit it out of the park everytime. But I'm really enjoying this and
I think Luke Skywalker was fantastic.I'm curious to see what will happen.
(38:30):
I have a feeling baby Yoda.I keep calling baby Yoda. I think
Grogu will come back. I thinkwe'll have a We will focus just on
Mando for the next little while becauseof the whole Manda's story and the sword
and everything. But I just itmight be a nice little break to have
Grogu go away for a little bitand come back at the end of season
three. So yeah, I agreewith you, and also too with that
(38:52):
did with the Dave Filone takeover aslike kind of like the star not the
showrunner, but the universe runner. You mean he's with George Lucas. It
would be like if Elton John goeson stage and plays a wrong note,
people go, oh, you playedthat song wrong, and go it's no,
I just rewrote it. It's mysong, right. But if I
play Elton john songs like you playeda wrong note, it's like, yeah,
(39:13):
he got me. So Feloni doesn't. Lucas had that autonomy where it
was just like, yeah, that'sthat prequels or that was weird or that
first Clone Wars movie. It's like, hey, it's my song, too
bad, like I made this.So like Jon Favreau and Floni have,
they don't have that get out ofjail free card because it's not there's you
(39:35):
mean people, it's almost like theyhave this you can call them out on.
Oh well that doesn't quite match that. But Feloni's either him. I
know, I've seen him in PanelsAlive. I think I was time to
talk to my daughter both us theother day, five or six times at
our various conventions around North America, and I think, like his knowledge is
(39:59):
just so yeah, he's the goto guy, Like he's the one.
He's almost like, you mean, where they It's like, can't we do
this? Like I know he hasa lot of staff, and there's a
lot of other names I'm not goingto drop. But so Rob Williams,
you're thinking, I also gotta mentionedFeloni must have a tremendous amount of respect
in this world, in this StarWars world. He talked to many years
(40:21):
ago, a couple of years agoabout his tree of trust. I think
it was yep, And don't youknow you're so so many people are on
this tree of trust. The factand Hama Hamil said this, the fact
that Luke was kept a secret, the fact that Grogu, the name Grog
was kept a secret for this long. There must be a lot of respect
for those who are in the businessto keep their mouth shut, as well
(40:44):
as Feloni's ability to to keep thecage tight, his his tree of trust
tight, because very few people knewabout this. I mean we had,
you know, we had David ProssGod bless him, uh spoil Luke's parentage,
and but now we have in theworld of digital social media, this
(41:08):
wasn't leaked and that's an amazing thing. So yeah, well, just to
reinforce your point there, Rob andthe lead up to Rise of Skywalker,
I think there's a vanity Fair piece, and Kathleen Kennedy specifically said, actually,
I think it was more in promotalking about the Mandalorian, she said
that there's not a thing they dostory wise that they don't run through Dave
(41:30):
Feloni. Nice, So take that, Take that what you will. If
they run every single story and everysingle every single media through Dave Feloni,
that's a lot. And whether ornot they take his feedback and edit based
on his feedback, who knows, but they say they. She said that
they run everything through Dave Feloni.Well she knows, she knows better than
anybody. Now, that's like,oh, you can't do that because that's
(41:51):
going to contradict this and we've putthis out already under your banners, so
you can't be meat like so orhe might say, yeah, you can
do that. That was in thebooks. Mark, you've heard of this
Luke guy, right, Yeah, yeah, I'm George Luke. Is that
the one? But yeah, mymind was blown watching that episode. It
was everything I wanted. Robin, you've mentioned a couple of times we're from
(42:15):
the with the original generation of StarWars fans, the projected generation. This
is all I've wanted since I wasa kid. This is all I wanted
to see was Luke after a turnof the Jedi. What did he do
next? Did you go and becomea moisture farmer on tattooing or did he
become this Jedi knight? And there'smy answer. And I'm hoping that this
(42:38):
is the first step between Bridge andthe gap between Jedi and the false Awakens,
and perhaps there's a there's an entiregeneration of of space where they can
tell these stories now and what we'vebeen discussing Floni and Favre, they are
a two man George Lucas you've gotone that's so studiously steeped in the law
(43:07):
of star Wars, he studied atthe feet of George Lucas, and the
other one, Favreau, is buildingthe world and building the technology that they
can tell these new stories in theway Lucas did in the seventies building Ireland,
building everything from the ground up.Favreau is doing that now, creating
the space that Feloney can tell thestories in. So there are two men
(43:29):
doing the work of one, andI have nothing but faith in them.
And that last five minutes of theMandalorian season finale was proof to me that
these guys can do it. Andit really, it really hit me in
the fields watching that guy, forsure. And again it's like, but
(43:49):
they didn't write. It's not likeif you were a child of the eighties
and somebody said in twenty twenty, you're going to see a play by Magazine
and it's gonna have the Ally partonin it. You'd be like excited at
first, but then you'd be like, oh, wait a second, twenty
twenty, why you know what Imean? So, but that's what I
(44:10):
mean. And again, you canpoopoo the CGI all you want, but
it was cool, like you mean, like, yeah, we have photoshop
now, it's cool. I'll happilyopen that magazine. I'm not you know,
it just it was gat Yeah. For me, it was like it
was like I once Grogu was sittingon that once Aska said this, you
(44:30):
gotta go to the temple. He'sgonna say on this rock, I'm like,
oh, I I know what's happening. I don't know if it was
confidence or just hope. Yeah,I mean, and again, that's what
Star Wars is all about, isn'tit. Hope. That's the the thing
it leads us to have, youknow, And maybe that's why people get
disappointed so much because they do carrya lot of hope. All Right,
(44:52):
we're gonna try to keep this tightto an hour and with with such a
big roundtable, and we're all podcasters, so we're very all long way to
including myself, I can kick itaround the horn. This is if by
the time you listen to this,it'll be the New Year already. But
this is literally New Year's Eve,Um twenty twenty, so Kyle twenty twenty
(45:14):
one. Again, we were nottalking about coronavirus. We're not talking about
anything it's just Tumbling Saber. What'shappening again, We've already talked about what
you're looking forward to on the shows. What's what's twenty twenty twenty one have
in store with Tumbling Saber. Well, we're gonna take a little bit of
a slow start to it, forsure. I'm starting a new life adventure
(45:37):
as we roll into the new years, so I want to make sure that
goes right. So Tumbling Saber forthe early part of twenty twenty one,
it'll be not dormant. I don'twant to use the hiatus word, but
we're taking a slow start just tomake sure that the actual priorities in life
are taken care of before I getback to the podcast table. But once
I'm back at it, you knowwe're going to be still talking to all
the news, all the books, comics, video games. UM I thought
(46:00):
twenty twenty was going to be aquiet year across the board, and it
turned out to be an absolute bonanzaof news and rumors and stories to talk
about. UM So I'm through.I'm through assuming that twenty twenty one is
going to be one way or theother. I'm just sitting here waiting for
the star Wars tidal wave to hitme, and I can't wait to get
(46:22):
back at the table at some pointand start breaking it all down and getting
back with the with the team andstart having some fun again. Fantastic and
also too, I have to say, as as a side note, I
guess I am a Toronto Blue Jaysfan. But nothing would make me happier
if and I'm sorry to our TampaBay friends, but if the Tampa Bay
Rays moved to Montreal and the Exposit renamed the Expos again and we had
(46:47):
a division where you had the BostonRed Sox, the Baltimore Orioles, the
New York Yankees, the Toronto BlueJays and Montreal Expos would nothing would make
me happier, of course, butgiming hey like, I'll take it,
I will take I'll take it.Excellent. That's that's my whole. I
know it's not gonna happen in twentytwenty one, if ever, but oh
(47:07):
that that division is just so ball? What is this base Yeah, it's
a sports ball thing. Yeah that'strue. A Canadian based podcast. So
far too, baseball references, nohockey references. Shut out. It was
(47:27):
the shutout and all the boy,all right, Andre san Diego, Sabers,
what do you guys got coming upin the twenty twenty one. It's
been a real challenge for the clubbecause we haven't been allowed to meet,
so it's been creative on trying tofigure out what the club is doing and
then how that longer. Sabers,I'm assuming podcast six two meters so sorry,
(47:50):
starting we're gon we're moving to Hikesinstead of sas UM. So that
that and then we've had a completechange of leadership UM with Steve passing and
then Eric and Eric and his wifewhich happens to be my daughter moving to
Wyoming UM, and then Robert RobertJohn taking a step back from the leadership.
We've we've rebuilt the council and theHigh Council on the Council UM.
(48:15):
So that's taken a lot of focuson that. The podcast is trying to
figure out UM, and then youknow, we kind of just reflect on
what we do as a club, and then what Star Wars is doing,
and we've got some exciting things happeningstar Wars wise, but the club we're
probably not meeting again until spring. So I was gonna kick out of Robert's
take on age when he when yeah, uh, as you guys were going
(48:39):
up the episodes and he and hetalked about episode forty seven, episode for
eight, and he's such a younglittle guy and yeah, he's funny as
he though. I do love Robert, so the color of the Stye and
Roberts On Robert's world is just it'sa beautiful thing. I love him.
He's he's a dear friend, butyeah, he's he's his rhythm and thing
(49:00):
is always a new take. Butno, we're excited because we've been able
to transition well and I think intothe digital uh you know, zoom and
get vocal or even messenger stuff.Recording wise, it's just yeah, finding
topics and getting everybody together. Everybody, like you mentioned in the last round
(49:23):
table, everyone's just kind of kindof a fatigue right now, so even
getting everybody together to talk is achallenge. So yeah, absolutely, and
again but this is also my goodfriend Roman and I do the Roman podcast
a week. It's not Star Warsfor Leader or anything like that, and
it's at alt content, so Iwant to subscribe unless you you're ready for
it. But we um we starteddoing this live stream thing because we were
(49:47):
inspired by what the Rose Squad ofthe podcast we're doing with Cody and and
men Mopar and I talk to them, but because we're both not Star Wars,
I'm like, how do we dothis? Because we're not gonna we're
just like a broadcast. So youguys are too, And I got a
lot of information from them. Sowe did this live streaming and all of
a sudden, COVID hits and I'mgetting inundated with like podcasters from everywhere.
(50:13):
It's like, how are you doingthis? Because nobody was doing these live
streams, like there was very fewof us, and it was just this,
we have to do this. Howdo you not? How do you
record when you're not in the sameroom? How do you know? It's
just thankfully, Roman and I areso lazy that we even when I was
living half an hour down the road, I wouldn't go to the house to
do it, you know. Soour laziness and our vanity made us well,
(50:38):
we want to do our podcast andwe want everybody to see us,
but I don't want to work atit. So I mean we figured it
out and that's the recipe for apodcast today row exactly exactly. So um
Rob Williams, Generation Next Wing oreven if you can touch on your five
(51:00):
first stuff once again. Once vaccinesstarted happening, obviously that's going to change.
Yeah. Well, first of all, I want to congratulate Mopar on
his new child, by the way, that's awesome. Yes, it was
funny because the last time was onhere, we talked about podcasting and how
many Star Wars podcasts that were andthere wasn't a lot of stuff happening,
and then all of a sudden wasit a week later? Boom? Yeah,
(51:21):
Well they were listening to you. That's what it is, Rob,
They're listening to you, and theyjust drop all this and now we're going
to see the podcasting role double.Just with all this sort of stuffy.
As for us, I have afeeling what I expect now is going to
be completely different by the end ofan end of twenty twenty one. I
still we're still going to have alot of fun. We're going to talk
(51:43):
about all this sort of stuff. We're still going to talk about movies and
TV shows and stuff. It's justI'm still hoping to get Paul Lee from
Kim's Convenience on the show. I'mstill working that hard. I would love
to talk to him, and it'snot just because of his Mandalorian role,
but mostly because his five First role, which leads me into the Outer Rim
rookie. So hopefully I will beable to get my knee and Nunn built.
(52:06):
Waiting for the mass to get done. My buddy Terry Chew is working
hard on that at Pandaprop's Costumes plug. He's also I'm waiting for like COVID's
delayed my flight suit and so twentytwenty one my goals to get that costume
completed and hopefully one day we willactually troop again. We had a meeting
(52:27):
just yes a couple of days agofor new recruits to the Outer Rim Garrison
of the five First, and itwas fun seeing them again. We didn't
do it live off, we didn'tdo it in person, but it was
just like, hey, I rememberyou. I missed this. I missed
that, I missed this. We'rejust sharing stories and it was I only
hit twenty five troops and I shouldhave done that months ago, because it's
(52:51):
just we don't get out. It'sall virtual troops now, it's not the
same. So I want to getout there and hopefully twenty twenty one,
I will see that. So that'sfor podcasting. I enjoy doing the videos.
I enjoy podcasting with my three otherfriends, Jamie and Neil and Steve.
And who knows what it's going tobe like in twenty twenty one.
I'm just Jamie has taught me todrop my expectations and just kind of go
(53:14):
with things. And that's what's goingto happen. Just six years. We're
selling our podcast sell Bring six yearsin January, So it is amazingly Well
thanks, I'm so It's it's hard, I said, it's like like on
our hundredth episode, it's really hardto keep this going. And because as
Kyle was saying, life has thingsin the way we have we have.
(53:37):
Life comes first. You know, you have your job, you have your
your family, whatever. So todo this every week like the Nerd Room
does, I don't know how theydo it. Man, those of you
have no life. Well, Jim, you have no life, so you
have a great life. I'm notgoing to make fun of you. So
(53:58):
yeah, the goddamn Mark GOTSI Markgods if, um, what do you
got again? I'm not going tosay anything, but I don't want to
spew information they can't be said.So you just in You've got You've got
stuff coming, you got irons inthe in the fire. There's some stuff
going on. I can can weexpect anything in twenty twenty one or or
or announcements? Um, everybody, this is terrible podcast becauseverybody's like, hey,
(54:25):
just say it. I'm like, yeah, yeah. At the moment,
I don't know anything. So I'vespent this year working on something yeah
not alone, with a couple ofcreative friends and working very hard, and
we're waiting for other people at themoment to give us some feedback. So
I can't really discuss what that's about. And the Lorian season three, it's
(54:51):
very exacting, Yeah, the Markde Lorian and I don't yeah, in
terms of podcasts, And I'm goingto try and stay on the wagon,
but I am open to doing thismore often, Rob, if you need.
If I did a mic field, yeah, I'm trying to spare myself
the work that goes into doing whatyou chaps do all the time, because
(55:13):
I know how that feels. Itis something, isn't it. So Um,
while I have you on the mic, I'm going to go around the
horn real quick, so people cantell us where to find you. Um,
