(01:30):
and we're doing the whole live streamso you guys can join us so real
quick. I'm not alone tonight. If you're watching the live stream right underneath
me directly, which is not doneon purpose. It just happened that way.

staying home and staying nerd, stayingnerd. Welcome back to him.

(01:53):
Yeah, we've we've potted a lot, so this is we're no stranger than
this. But h and also returningto the roundtable. He's uh one of
the founding members of the Star WarsCommonwealth. I believe if you're looking on
the bottom row right to my left, rawbacks say hi everybody, Rob,

(02:14):
Hey, everybody, how you guysdoing good? So Generation x Wing podcast,
So we have the we're representing talkStar Wars, the Nerd Room,
Generation xt Wing. But it wouldn'tbe a proper roundtable if we didn't have
a night. So if you lookat the chat window and you're looking directing
to my left, our night ofthe Commonwealth from I believe it's the Chicago

(02:36):
area. I don't want to pinpointit. I'll give it as exact address
leader to anybody that wants it.Uh Rick, welcome to the roundtable.
First appearance I believe right, thankyou. It's it's great to be here
in my bedroom, but with youguys, so it's not strange at all.
No, it's great to be I'msure. I'm sure you've always had
three Canadian dudes hang around your bedroom, right like, this isn't this isn't

(03:00):
a new thing or this this isa like wish fulfillment, So cheers,
cheers. And then the great partabout it, you know we're all medically
covered, so you know we're probablywe're good to go, right, like
we're fine for now. Yeah, now we've ruined that. So um again,

(03:21):
this is no. We've we've beendipping into retrospectives throughout the movies.
We have a Rogue one retrospective comingup, Rick, I believe your pencil
didn't for that one. But thisis kind of a hangout on a Saturday
night and basically what have you beendoing lately? It's kind of a Star
Wars feel. So I'm gonna startedoff with Tim, we have a lot

(03:42):
going on. Now, I'll letyou pick up that. We've had Rise
of Skywalker just drop suddenly on digitaldownload. Clone Wars is out. We've
had how are you binging? Areyou keeping busy during this self isolation business.
So the floor is yours. Ohman, It's been an interesting few
weeks, that's for sure. We'vebeen here in Alberta. We've been on

(04:05):
kind of lockdown for almost two weekswith the family here, and not a
quarantine, but we're just social distancing, you know, doing the right thing
here, flattening that curve, ifyou will. And we have been really
focusing in on catching up on thingsand really doing Star Wars, you know,

(04:26):
getting back into it in a realway. One Comics is where I've
been really hanging out a lot.You know. We used to do the
TSW comics and that kind of feltby the wayside when I had a kid
and all that. And maybe somedaywe'll get back at it. Maybe this
is a perfect opportunity. But thecomics have been great. The Rise of
Kylo Ren ended on a little bitof a slow note, but it was
a fantastic, fantastic book. TheVader Book. Rick just threw that up,

(04:47):
man, another great book. Reallyinteresting stuff going on there. Bounty
hunters. Just read that. Rick, look at this guy go. It's
it's great. It's got that Mandovibe. I'm absolutely love and that,
and then the Star Wars run byCharles, but he got Oh son of
Data, mir come on picking upafter Clone Wars, Oh beautiful being well
cute man and Clone Wars of course, man, I've been doing that week

(05:09):
by week. I wasn't a hugeClone Wars guy, but I'm loving what
they're putting a screen here, andjust how Floonies come back in a big
way. Clone Wars come back ina big way, and then even Rise
of Skywalker. Look, you know, I know people are all over this
movie again, the novelization, therelease. Now we have it all in
front of us. I don't havea copy yet. I'm waiting for that

(05:30):
steel book Sunday has hooked us upand hopefully fingers Crossby get them. But
I'm looking forward to taking a deepdive back into that. And then all
these guys you can see behind mehere, we've got They've got the collection,
the action triggers and all that. The Hunt's gonna be slow for the
foreseeable future, but it was reallygreat getting my hands on the last few
items before everything went in a lockdown. Toys r Us is closed here everything

(05:51):
Lego store, no matter what,it's all non essential it's pretty much closed
out here in Alberta. So eventhough the world is going down, my
Star Wars is probably as high ashas ever been. You know, all
facets that they're delivering in I thinkhave been fantastic, everything from the toys
of comics, TV film. Ilove the Rise of Skywalker. I'm one

(06:11):
of those guys. I'm proud tobe one of those guys, and so
I'm going to continue to wave thatflag. So that's what that's what I've
been doing. Fantastic, fantastic, and I'm surprised the hunt isn't essential.
I wish it was. But okay, so one there's an email from Toys
r Us. It said, ah, not essential. I should mention real
quick. Um, if you're watchingthe live stream, we have the four

(06:32):
windows. We have the one atthe bottom, and that's for you guys.
So if you're following on the Romanpodcast or my personal Facebook feed,
if you're anything, you're right onthere, we're gonna it's gonna pop in
on the chat. Well I haveI have edit control so easy, so
anyway, grabs just jumped in.It says, don't mention hardcovers. Let's
not reach muscle fatigue. So youknow, Aja East, We're gonna go

(06:54):
take it slow. So um,rawbecks, are you what are you feel
in your your yourself guarantine time witha Star Wars related Star Wars related It's
funny because I've got'm by myself forthe next week here and I'm just kind
of my sons with his mom andso I've got a week by myself and

(07:16):
I trying to figure out what todo. And so I'm like, I'm
not trooping at this very moment.I should be in Victoria doing my year
anniversary for becoming a five first member, and obviously it's not happening. So
I grabbed the bucket this morning, and I saw some people in Italy dudes

(07:36):
this little video. First people inItaly do this little video about just what
they do in their time at home, and a bunch of us at the
Outer Rim Garrison or are doing thesame. But I decided to take a
little further because I just bored. So I grabbed the bucket and I'm just
doing a day in the life ofa of a of a trooper. Silly

(07:58):
things like um, sleeping, takinga shower. You don't see that,
running out of toilet paper, allthat weird little stuff, and I'm just
goofing around because I just I gottado something, and I in the back
of my back of my attic ata crawl face. Sorry, I gret.
I had taken some old boxes frommy ex wife's house which I had

(08:22):
to take out of the attic store, and now it's full of action figures
and toys that's been sitting up therefor a good eight years. I haven't
touched it since, and so I'mgoing to spend this little time going through
it, maybe make some videos, because I've recently made some videos of the
Power of the Forest Line that Ijust happened to pull from my parents house.

(08:43):
So boy, I sound like anerd, but yeah, exactly.
But it's just like I'm gonna gothrough these boxes and just kind of see
what's in there. It's Star Warsaction figures, it's old I got like
crossbows and catapults, board game inthere somewhere. I've got an original ad
at I've got a Power of theForce at it. I got all these
things that are just in boxes thatI haven't seen in almost a decade.

(09:07):
And then I got to figure outwhat am I going to do with it,
But it would be fun just togo through these, maybe make some
short unboxing videos just to share withother people if they really care, and
just do that. Well, Isaw you. You you posted a picture
of you opening a box and yousaid it was like the Star Wars rush
test. Like it was. Itwas because I'm like, oh, I
see the desk, star trash compactor, I see a CLOUDCRC canopy. I

(09:31):
also see like it was like, and you were like, this's weird how
different people's Yeah, people notice differentthings that any other person on the planet
would not know, Like, yeah, it is whatever catches your eye.
It's I got this one box fullof just random stuff from sound wave to
triclops to even like I know that, uh, Corey's gonna Corey's gonna correct

(09:56):
me on this one. But theselittle animals that you can rub and you
can sell for firew water. Wouldhe remember I remember talking about a couple
of years back, and it's justit's all random toys, and I'm just
I would just like to open upand say, okay, we're the first
three things you see, and justand just it's curious what geeks and nerds
will pick out and what really drawsthe eye. Well that's just like like

(10:18):
I said about that, and itwas what got me was you know that
cloud car canopy? Yeah, likeand it was upside that, like only
if you had that toy, youknow what it is? Yeah, and
but it's just if you didn't,there's no way you would you guess it
a millionaire what that is? Butthat, Yeah, it's awesome. I
can't wait to see what more youhave coming out, because dude, I
have been salivating over those boxes, those pictures on Instagram. Man, every

(10:43):
time you pull a new one out, I'm like, oh my god,
like just I want to be besideyou pull them out. I got seven
or eight boxes in there, andI was supposed to get together with my
with Aneil and Steve and Jamie fromthe podcast and we were just going to
go through it. That was ourplan actually this week or next week,
and unfortunately I obviously didn't happen. But it's just like I have this baggy

(11:05):
full of just random pieces and Iwas going to do as as a contest,
like name as many things as youcan, like it's so random.
There's just to give you an idea. If you know gargoyles, the cartoon
show. There's an action figure partin there, and it's just like,
name name these pieces, and ifyou can name the most pieces, I'll
give you. I'll send out aprize or something like that. But it's

(11:28):
just one of those little random things. I know geeks and nerds love absolutely,
So we're gonna go around the horm. We're gonna toss it to rick
Um. You've been flashing a bunchof comics in the background there. So
what what's been keeping your Star Warsbusiness during this kind of social lockdown we
got going on. You know,a lot of my Star Wars time is

(11:54):
things that I do with my son, So Clone Wars drops, we watch
it, comic books come out,I'm usually telling him what's going on.
My shop well, as of thisweek, has been really good with you
know, getting me very like I'ma variant collector for covers and stuff like
that. So you guys can't seekind of the chaos that's just outside of

(12:16):
this little window because over here there'sa bunch of stuff, and over there
there's a bunch of stuff that Ihaven't really sorted and organized. So I'm
really big on Prince for Star Wars, so I haven't read last week's books
or this week's books yet, justkind of with all the craziness. But

(12:37):
I was one of the lucky fewthat had an early copy of the Rise
of Skywalker novelization, so I finished. I finished that a week ten days
before it came out, and therewas a lot of cool stuff in that.
I was really iffy on the movieafter the first viewing. I didn't

(12:58):
really know how to feel about it. Um. And the last time my
son and I went to go seeit at the end of January, we
just had fun with it. Andlike, my mind has kind of changed
on the movie and it's not it'snot worth nitpicking over um. As far
as I'm concerned, I'm looking atit with the mindset that my son has.

(13:20):
Again, he's ten, and likeyou were all roughly about the same
mate. So when Return of theJedi came out, I was five,
and there was no, well thatdoesn't make sense and e Walks should have
four they should blank you know,I it it didn't matter. Um.
So after after that last after thelast fewing, we sat in the we

(13:46):
were the last two in the inthe theater. Everybody else left and we
we stayed through the credits, andwe stood up and we were in the
aisle kind of slowly making our waydown and just kind of you know,
seeing what our names are in thecredits and listening to h to the music,
and it just it dawned on methat like, this is the last
time I'm going to see my childhoodheroes on a screen. And I couldn't

(14:11):
help it. And it was like, you know, and they had had
some sweaty eyes for a second, and uh, and my son said he
was like, Dad, with what'swrong when you're crying? And I was
like, I just love Star Wars. I just love everything about it,
and I couldn't, you know, besides, you know, critical nippis,
I'm not concerned. I wasn't somuch concerned about it in the moment.

(14:33):
It was just something that I wasdoing for fun with him, and I'm
good with the story as it is. And then you know, reading the
book and everything extra that came outwith that, um, all the little
extra material that they either ad itin or just filled in blanks. UM
was really fun. Yeah. Absolutely. But Rick, Well, like you
were to um your story about whenyou were mentioning watching your a lot the
last time you're you're we're watching thissag on the big screen and maybe well

(14:56):
we'll touch on that first as faras far as one of our main topics.
So Rob x rises Skywalker. Weare literally very like we We were
the ot guys. We saw itas kids. Did you see it in
a movie theater? The first Isaw it in a driving with my parents
driving. You were you were there? That was me? Yeah, so

(15:20):
everybody at home playing the ts Wroundtable drinking game. I saw Star Wars
wasn't a new hope Star Wars ina drive in nineteen seventy seven with my
parents. Yes, so the firstreal fan, I may add my problem
guaranteed. Yeah, first real WellI don't know, I don't want to.
Yes, So so Rob, thisis me personally. When I saw

(15:45):
it, it was kind of likeand again, the digital download just came
out. I don't know if everybodyon this roundtables has purchased it or had
a chance to rewatch it at home. And I just saw it again and
I'm like, from the comfort ofmy own couch, I'm like, despite
what everybody says, and like youknow, of course everybody can knitpack nitpick
about a little certain things. Iwas like, man, I really love

(16:06):
Star Wars, Like like this isso cool. You mean, like so
rob X, what do you yes? Our saga finished again? Yeah?
Yeah again. I guess I wasspent after the last time it ended,
after episode three, and then itwas just this is just a nice little
surprise having this seven, eight, and nine come out. So when it

(16:30):
finished, Um, I was okaywith it. It's it's fine. It
wasn't it's this Star Wars. I'msorry, I'm just gonna sound nerdy.
Start not nerdy, but sound alittle bit. Um. I don't mean
to come off whiney, because itreally isn't. It's not my Star Wars
anymore. Uh, this Star Warsit was great. I enjoyed every enjoyed

(16:52):
all last three episodes, lots offun. It really enjoyed solo. But
when it comes to the prequel orthe sequels, I really enjoyed it.
But I had come to terms withthe fact that this is not directed towards
me. But I can still enjoyit. They have They still give me
little things. Ope, there's wedge, Ope, there's this, Hope,
there's that. That's great. Ilove it, um, but when it

(17:14):
ended, I was happy with it. It was. It's good because I
know that Star Wars is going tocontinue on from there. I have not
purchased the digital I haven't purchased thelast three movies. I'm sorry, the
last five movies, including Rogue one. I haven't purchased it because it's just
you want to talk about Originally,I spent so much money buying the original
trilogy, like fifteen different bloody timesbecause George Lucas wanted to put Java in

(17:38):
there, or a droid in there, or mcclunky in there, and it's
just like, you know, it'sjust like he keeps changing things, and
I was just I've been spent sohe's gotten enough on my money. I've
even bought the original trilogy on BluRay. It's just I'm I'm not Star
Wars out, but I'm I'm moneywhen it comes to spending so much money

(18:00):
on the movie I got streaming now, I'll watch it when it comes streaming.
I'm enjoying Mandalorian right now. I'menjoying Clone Wars. Those are great.
I don't feel I have to keepspending money because my money is precious
to me now, single dad,and it's just don't have a place to
live right now. So it's justlike my money. You're not George Lucas,
you got enough money. You don'tneed my money kind of thing.

(18:22):
Disney, you don't need my money. But at the same time, going
back to what you're saying, Iwent on a rant. Sorry, I've
been trapped in this house. It'sjust so I only got like a week
left, yeah, the only weekleft. But it's just I enjoyed Skywalker.
It was a lot of fun.I went in there with open eyes
and just tell me a story.I'm not gonna bitch at just show what

(18:45):
you got and I'm going to probablyenjoy it. And I did, and
I was satisfied. I was happy. I went to the last movie by
myself. Unfortunately we're supposed to gowith everybody else. We didn't. And
it was fine by myself. Itwas just I was around other people who
were enjoying other quiet, polite Canadianswho don't say anything or don't clap or

(19:06):
anything like that. But uh,like I said, it was it was
great. I'm happy. Let's seewhat you got now, so excellent,
And Tim, before I throw itto you, um, I'm gonna just
touch us it because you were mentioningthis was this is not your Star Wars,
like it's not made for us.Like again, they have the Easter
eggs in there, which are aregreat, and again when we saw Wedge
fantastical. This is something I've noticedwith this sequel trilogy for the people that

(19:32):
maybe not Tim and Rick's age,but the really younger audience, the people
that were kids when the prequels cameout. We're like say, like,
you know, I was like fouror five like when the OT started.
So the kids that were the sameage when the prequels came out, they
really grew up on the prequels andthey loved it. And I've actually heard
a lot of them don't like thesequel trilogy. And again they're like ironic.

(19:56):
I call them the ironic generation becausethey're like, oh, sequel,
that's not my Star Wars. Andnot in Rob's way where it's like,
yes, we've just grown up.They're like, Oh, that's not what
I wanted, so that's not mine. It's almost like what we heard a
lot of the OT guys when theprequels came out. It's like, oh,
that's not my Star Wars. OTForever whatever, and now you have
the next generation that we're kids duringthe prequels are like looking at the sequels

(20:19):
going and that's not my Star Warsand I'm I'm watching this online and I
stay out of it when online, but I'm watching this going, oh,
this sounds very familiar. It's likeI've done this like twenty years ago.
What's going on? Like this isreally strange. So Timm jump an ear
rises Skywalker. But also if youcan kind of comment on that, kind

(20:42):
of that phenomenon that's happening, likeif I guess if you're five and this
thing comes out again. I lovethem all so it doesn't bother me,
but maybe I don't know that somepeople just whatever you're born into that trilogy
is your a trilogy? Well that'sit, right. You want to own
something, and that's fair that youknow there's an OT generation, a prequel

(21:03):
generation, and now a sequel generation. And speaking from I would consider myself
and every fan I don't have,like, sure, there's films I like
better than others, and there's certainissues I have with particular parts of the
sequel trilogy, the prequels and evenparts of the OT that are like they're
like, they're fantastic films, butthey're by no means like perfect cinema.
But when I look at it objectively, I'm like, hey, these are

(21:27):
movies. You can You have thechoice to watch these if you If you
if you don't like the sequel trilogy, that's cool, just be on your
way and you can watch Oteam prequel. I personally really enjoyed the sequel trilogy
for what it was. Sure wouldI have liked a few different threads pulled
a different way. Yeah, Butthese guys are creatives. These guys are

(21:47):
paid to make films, and theywere entertaining. The Force Awakens was one
hell of an experience when seeing that, you know, ten years out from
Revenge of the Sith. You know, I'm kind of in a weird space
when it comes to Star Wars.I was kind of born and grew up
in the nineties when there wasn't awhole bunch of Star Wars on filming.
I had the ot had to waittill I was, you know, early

(22:10):
teens, before the prequels came outand Star Wars kind of ramped back up,
And then I went into university towardsthe end of that and my mind
was elsewhere when Revenge, Yeah, you didn't have that, Oh I got
to get that action figure Star Warsexperience because you were you were too weight.
You weren't here during the ot andyou're weight, you're a little old

(22:30):
by time. Yeah one I was. I was. I was fifteen when
the when Phantomenace came out. Yeah, so yeah, and again Grant,
did you you you were still collectingfigures, you were under your bed with
exactly. Yeah, there's little boxesfor different things, right, and action
figures like and there's a point inmy life where I was just like,

(22:52):
this is the action figures aren't somethingI talked about? And then by Attack
of the Clones and Revenge of theCity, I'm late high school, early
university when it's like it's pretty farfrom my mind at this point. Yeah,
the story, I just I justhad this image of Tim, teenage
Tim reaching under his mattress to grabsomething and then ends up with like jar

(23:12):
jar Like yeah, oh Darth Maul, all you'll do probably all right?
Yeah, I can see. SoI have this like weird gap in my
action figures. I go up tothe Phantom Menace, and then when I
was in university, I kind ofpicked it back up near my third year
where Revenge of the Sith came outand all that, and so I have

(23:33):
a stack of Revenge of the Sifters, and then it disappeared for me for
years, and it wasn't until thehype of The Force Awakens that it really
started to amp up. When Igot podcasting them at all, you guys
that started really collecting us when Imet Troy and Sunjay and everything just kind
of skyrocketed from there, and Ithink a lot of people had that experience,
And to be honest with you,Force Awakens, Rogue One, even

(23:56):
Las Jedi. Yeah, I haveissues with it, but they're all fantastically
made films, yes, of coursefrom a Star Wars perspective, and come
on, like half the stuff Igot back there is from the sequel trilogy
and now coming from the lens ofmy daughter, who is five, should
be six later this year, I'mstarting to show her stuff like Clone Wars
Rebels. But she absolutely loves TheForce Awakens. She loves Ray And this

(24:21):
is the first time for me thatI've had that experience of when you know,
when there's a little girl seeing throughher eyes, the hero is a
female like, she doesn't really connectwith an it can she does really connect
with Luke, but when she seesRay, it's like an explosion in her
brain and she projects herself exactly tothat. And so it's really awesome seeing

(24:44):
that they've put that female protagonist inthe space, kind of put her up.
And now my daughter feels like shehas her own Star Wars. And
that's the thing I love about thesequel trilogy is now her growing up.
This is her her generation, herStar Wars growing up into that she can
project herself into it and find herselfloving Ray, like she dresses up as

(25:07):
Ray and we go to cons andwe do all this. And so I
can see from like this broad spectrumof whether it's OT, prequel, sequel,
comics, whatever, there's something foreveryone. You don't have to like
everything. I never read any ofthe old Extended Universe stuff, and I
don't read everything now, but Ilike and I choose what I want to
do, and the Rise of SkywalkerI went that the first thing. I

(25:30):
said, I want a Star Warsexperience. You know, it doesn't like
that's and that's what I got,you know, coming off the back of
Avengers Endgame, which was the bestcinematic experience I've ever had, and that's
just because of the people in thetheater. No, and then going to
Rise of Scott I want with twentypeople, twenty friends, and we started
at Rise of Scott or Force Awakens, we saw Last Jedi and we finished

(25:52):
it off here. So we hadthis tradition going at Christmas time, all
of us, you know, afew dinner, a few beers, hit
the theater and just have an experience. That's what I wanted and it delivered
on that. Yeah, and yeah, sure, you know, we review
movies, we knitpicks. Sometimes wepull things apart, we have preferences,
we see things that maybe could havebeen strung through a little better. But

(26:12):
at the end of the day,it was it was a Star Wars experience
and that's what I wanted of it, and it delivered on that. I
hear you say the same thing aboutDC all the time experience. Yeah,
yeah, I don't know. That'san inside joke. Um, what I
should just real quick jump in here. Matthew Gilbert from Australia. He jumps

(26:33):
in, He says, hey, folks, hope you're all well. Watched
episode nine for the first time, since the cinemas and had a blast despite
his frustrations. Mike McDonald part ofthe Commonwealth, He says, greetings from
Bell River. Oh there we go. Sorry, it's not exactly French,
but you know, when you seeBell you kind of have to h Dave
also chiming in from Twitter. He'sold enough to seen all of them in

(26:57):
the theaters. He just um,and I just don't get the haters of
any of them. Yeah, correct, Dave. I agree, how to
haters are people who are U.I equate haters to people who are still
not grown up yet. They're notmature enough and they're not comfortable confident in

(27:18):
themselves to accept others different opinions. Is okay to not like something, but
I see it like I'm a teacher, and the same behavior that I hear
about on Twitter or or whatever, the people that complain or wine or or
threaten even is the same immature behavioryou have from kids who are just learning

(27:42):
how to grow. How mature isprepubescent, It's but the difference is I
think a lot of the time iskids, these the kids I teach,
have a chance of maturing. Us. These these A lot of people on
online are at a state right nowwhere it's just like, I just don't
feel they're confident in themselves as aperson and they need to find their tribe

(28:04):
because they don't have a tribe.I know, it's it's I don't I
know if that's getting psychological, butit's just I see the same behavior the
same kids that went. Like whenI took when our school took everybody to
see Force Awakens, the entire schoolSee Force Awakens, there was still the
one kid who would run through thehallway screaming out, Solo is dead,

(28:26):
Solo is dead, was dead. And it's just like, who are you
trying to impress? And it's justit's a kid trying to find acceptance or
a laugh or some sort of tribe. And I can't I can't hate the
kid because he's still learning. Yeah, but yeah, it's kind it's kind
of like even though Rob you'll you'llagree with this, I'm quite sure.

(28:48):
Michael jackson Thriller album came out inthe eighties and it was the biggest thing
ever for it wasn't cool to admitif you were like myself, who was
a mo shout at the devil.Yeah, I had to wear that badge
of I don't like Michael Jackson.That's not for me. I'm a metalhead.
But yeah, wow, that BillyJean. That's some catchy crap right

(29:11):
there. That's unbelievable. Like Iremember how much I hated Michael Jacksons just
for the fear fact that I neededto hate Michael Jackson. Yeah, don't
know why. I just hate andI need to hate him because probably some
kid liked them or something like that, because it wasn't cool for a guy
that's our age, new kids onthe block all that. You just pick
somebody justin Bieber if you want totalk about ten years ago, eight years

(29:32):
ago or something like that. Yetstill these guys sell millions and millions and
millions of dollars. Somebody must likehim. I mean, whether it's still
you're at your taste, it's thereis something there. And again yeah we're
to like it. Yeah, andwe didn't know Michael what all the other
stuff like it he was. Yeah, put that aside, Yeah, put
that aside. Just we're talking abouthis music. Yes, that thrill,

(29:52):
That Thriller album is outstanding front toback, like it's just it's a masterpiece.
And but we could never admit sucha thing back in the day,
because no, that would be we'dbe called all sorts of homophobic names and
all sorts of stuff. So sohere's a here's a little Canadian for you.
Sorry, Rick um So, Andprobably only you and me were gonna
get this rob But switch Back ifyou remember switch Back on CBC. I

(30:17):
don't know if Tim does this, but switch Back and CBC they were they
were talking about Michael Jackson and thenMuch Music. We're like, I think
it was Switchback or Much Music. We're gonna air the the first Thriller video
and it was there was warnings andeverything, and we're all getting excited and
it's just like, and I hateMichael Jackson, but I was there to
watch that day. Yeah, itwas a theatrical release. But on Much

(30:41):
Music, well that's a Canadian thingtoo. Anyway, we're going off on
a tangent terry David Mulligan. That'sall the whole point. The whole point
of this rent is to say,the whole point of the rent is to
say there are people that poop poostar Wars because it is the coolest thing
on the planet at the moment.I mean, whenever whenever there's a Moon
movie coming out, and they haveto be that that Yang did the Yang.
They just they have it deep insideand that's what we're comparing. Are

(31:03):
you the sto? So I'm gonnathrow it back. Thank you Rick for
being patients. You're you're unfortunately you'reon with three Canadian podcasters and we're not
leaving you a whole lot of roomhere on the show. But you are
the Knight of the Commonwealth. Um, yeah, you are. You spoke
so beautifully about your final viewing inthe cinema with H with Rise of Scott
Walker. So what now that that'sdone and you have kids and you're saying

(31:26):
you're enjoying the stuff with your withyour son? Uh? Is he?
Uh? Is the new Disney streaminglike you know, the Mando and with
the H with the new Clone Warsand all suf is this? Uh?
Is this enough to keep it goingfor you? Or is this or to
keep it keep it up with yourkids? Uh? Well, it's just
makes fun. But um okay, yes, yeah, because you know he's

(31:48):
into you know, other stuff asmuch. You know, maybe I've failed
as a parent that he doesn't onlylove Star Wars, but he's into you
know, Pokemon and he plays MineCraye after you know, we got him
a switch for his birthday, sohe's playing you know, Mario Carton stuff.
But if um, yeah, ofcourse, you know. And I
want him to be just so longas Sheep doesn't hate the things that I

(32:10):
like. I guess I don't know, but no, he's um. What
we get is enough in regards tothe things that I experienced just with him.
I mean, we we spent Imean, last year was just like
a flood of information. From thebeginning of the year until the movie came

(32:30):
out. It was like every otherday there was some new bit of news
or behind the scenes or or anannouncement of something, or a date or
a new book, whatever it was. There was always something to talk about.
And it was so exciting to bea fan in the last year leading

(32:50):
up to the release of the movie, because there was again, it was
a lot to talk about. Hekept podcasters talking and kept my son and
I talking about some of this stuff. And I look at it now in
hindsight and as fun as it wasand as exciting as it was, especially
having celebration here in Chicago last year, looking at it afterwards, it's almost

(33:12):
like, man, we kind ofalmost got too much because we got used
to seeing or hearing about every littlebit of minutia that goes into the behind
the scenes or what's coming and whatexpectations are there, to the point where
now things have slowed down, we'relike, oh, man, what are
we going to do? Well,we talk about our phantom, that's that's
what we should be doing, oneway or another. But I'm at the

(33:35):
point now where I kind of don'twant to know everything that's going on,
because again, looking at it inhindsight, it kind of sulays the experience
because it builds up an expectation thatyou realistically nothing is going to live up
to it if you're that hyped upfor it. You know, when you
look at certain segments of fandom, and I'm not trying to call anybody out,

(33:59):
but when you find yourself aligned witha group that falls in line with
it with a certain expectation, andthen the moviemakers decide that that's not exactly
what they want to do, you'regoing to be let down. Or if
you have a favorite character in thesenew movies that you expect something grand and

(34:23):
big to happen for that one character, and it doesn't happen because the filmmakers
decide not to go that route. You're gonna be let down. You know.
It's like it's psyche when you're yourfavorite band goes on tour. You
know, we all have our musicaltaste and you go to see them play.

(34:45):
It gets to the end of theshow and you're thinking, man,
it was great, but there's thatone B side that they never released,
and it was a thing and Iwish they would have played it, and
then they didn't. You're so hypedup for the experience catering to you in
a way that it realistically in termsof what you're getting. You're getting a
story that, yeah, if youdon't like it, you don't like it.

(35:05):
But the idea that like, everythingwas so amped up all year long
last year leading up to like Isaid, before the movie came out,
and even before The Mandalorian came out, there was all of this hype and
build I'm better up to it andMandel was good, but there were a
couple of episodes that didn't drive witheverybody. You have to take it like
and again, as us we're alladult, straight males, everybody's experiences are

(35:30):
going to be different, but youhave to temper your expectations to a degree
so that whatever you do get,you know, you can say, okay,
cool that was I liked it.I didn't like it. And to
give you an example, we gotthe first Clone Wars episode with the Soca
yesterday, and as much as Ilove Aska and the news that we got

(35:51):
yesterday concerning if we want to getinto it, the cast, potential casting,
rumored casting for Mandel season two,I didn't really care for the Clone
Wars episode that we got. Youknow, there wasn't a lot there,
you know, with the bad batscame in and it was fun and it
was entertaining, and it was alot of pupu and you know, we're

(36:13):
blowing stuff up and we're saving Echo. We knew that that was the crux
of the story from the beginning.Yesterday's Asoka episode, which I'm glad she's
back. I'm so happy to seeher in new content again. But the
episode didn't really hit for me.And again I'm okay with that because I
knew what my mindset was, thatmy expectation. Yeah, I didn't go

(36:37):
into it like, oh, she'sgoing to come in lightsabers flailing like you
know, like grievous, and she'sgoing to be taken down, Like no,
that's not what the story is goingto be. But again, what
we did get was fun. Butit's not like, well they ruined Asoka.
They they really know, you know, Dave Filoni ruined. Yeah,
I know, anybody poopooing. Thereason the Soaka episode is, I think

(37:00):
what it's coming from is we knowwe have a very finite amount of these
episodes left forever, you know, means so we every one of them.
We want to count so if theydon't quite hit with you, or it's
like, oh that didn't move alongwhere I wanted. Like again, people
just again, it's hard to We'renot getting mad at fandom, we're not

(37:21):
getting mad at the online community. It's it's just we understand when people are
love these characters so much, andit's like, we know we only have
a little bit left. And thenit was the same reaction with Luke with
the sequel trilogy. It's like,oh, everybody loves Luke and if they
didn't, they didn't land the way, they didn't play them the way they
want it. It's like it's it'snot like they're mad, it's just disappointed.

(37:42):
Like I mean, it's like youyou know, you only got a
finite time left, but there wasa lot of anger. Yeah, no,
I I plieve Rick, I completelyunderstand what you're saying there. Um,
just a real quick note. Wehave Grabs and reds. We have
we have Grabs and Reds on thechat which and they're having a conversation about
Nie and them. So if you'renot so, you know what's in the
chat window. We got we gotsome, we got some. We got

(38:06):
some listeners that I just have ontheir own. I have a reveal.
I have a live reveal for grabs. Okay, yeah, you could do
whatever you want. It's grab.If grab's still on the chat, I
got I got some a live reveal, grab it for grabs. This is
a quarantine reveal because this is supposedto go in the mail. But given
circumstances, I'm gonna wait, Sogive me six seconds. Six seconds.

(38:30):
Okay, you're good, You're you'recounting down. I think I know here
we call live reveal. So I'vebeen meaning to send this for a little
bit of time, but you know, give them current circumstances. Give them
that we're alive. We've got Grabsin the chat here. I've got something
for him that will end up inthe mail. Oh yay for those before

(38:51):
he sends it to you. Yes, those are are listening, and are
are listening after the fact. Tim, please tell us what what you have
there for Grabs. We've got aNion Numb eb games exclusive, EB game
stop whatever exclusive here and Grabs aredude. You know he's a listener in
the nerd room, not always interactingwith us, Sir Grabs, big big

(39:12):
yes, sorry, sir Grabs.Yes, he's a big, big fan
of NI and Numb And I gotthis years ago and I just did a
self purge here getting rid of alot of stuff, and I said to
myself, there's one dude that needsthis. Yeah, that's Grabs. Josh
Tag Nenne lives lives. This isall yours, buddy wants. Uh.
There he is, Grabs. Hejust chimed in, thank you so much,
and he's very excited. Yes,we get that probably sometime in I

(39:37):
don't know, next May whatever, whenever we're allowed to send stuff Vietic spect
once ever once the yeah, sowell maybe maybe deta. Okay, here's
the question. I got a questionsort to go right ahead, Rob,
do you yes a Rob? Actuallyboth Robs, because because we're the same
person, why not, we're thesame name, same person. Take three

(40:00):
letters, Tim, Rob, whatever. Do you think that we're going to
be able to go to celebration ordo you think that's going to get next
this year? Um? Wow?Okay, well, first of it,
for me, it's not looking good. I had a family Disney cruise planned
literally the two weeks before celebration, and it was just and it's not we're

(40:23):
not world travelers, it was justjust happened to line up that way.
I was actually worried because the cruisewas booked and I was worried, Oh,
celebrations is coming in August. Whatif the celebration is during the cruise.
I'm like, oh, they're gonnahave to miss the Yeah you don't
you mean again? Anyway? Itwas just some it's stupid first world problems,
right So but yeah, I justliterally canceled in the steps to canceling

(40:45):
my Disney cruise because it involves alot of other family members and I'm not
canceling my hotel room or anything yetbecause I still have that no need.
I still have that little hope thatit's still going to happen, but I'm
not If it's for the safety ofeverybody, I'll be disappointed, but I
won't be upset if that makes anyYeah, and I we're the same way.

(41:07):
You know, We're supposed to beon a Disney cruise and a Disney
World trip in two weeks in Aprilmid April, and that's not happening,
and I'm thinking we're looking at celebration. We had planned to also go to
Disneyland there. My family was goingto come down with and all that and
end of August, and I don'tknow if it's I wouldn't be surprised if

(41:29):
we hear the next two weeks thatcelebrations pushed for a year or something like
that. I think I think thefirst shoot to drop will be we lost
um A D twenty three, andI think the next one will be San
Diego Comic Con, and then ifthat goes, the other dominant will fall
is gone. I think. Ithink I think these big venued, big

(41:51):
gatherings are gonna be knicks probably tillsometime in twenty twenty one. I just
don't think that there's going to bethe risk taken on the part of any
of the organizers to put something andput that many people that close into a
room into a giant forum of somesort and exposing how many and so it's
unfortunate things. I've been thinking aboutthat a lot about men. You know.

(42:15):
I missed celebration in Chicago for verygood things, you know, and
you know, I got Rick endedup taking my tickets, which was awesome,
and he ended hooked me up withthe exclusives and all that, so
it all worked out for everyone, but this one it was like, you
know, I remember when I boughtthe tickets and Rob said, all right,
Tim, you're going, but juststay away from your wife around I

(42:36):
don't know, December. Yeah,yeah, it's yeah. I think I
think my exact words were stay offyour wife in December celebration if that,
and then again out mine. Idon't know if she's watching those those are
my words. And I apologize toeverybody, but we're all adults here.
Let's let's real. Yeah and again, um yeah, so that's just it
so and and well done a deal? Yeah yeah, well done, Tim.

(43:00):
You you managed to I did it. I did it? Did it?
I don't like it halfway Jill endingnow so yeah, maybe, yeah
exactly. But then again, youknow these things are I guess the way
they're supposed to be. Um,raw backs, what do you what are
your what are your Tim was throwingit out, what what are your thoughts?

(43:20):
Uh? Not looking good? Idon't think or um, yeah,
well, a lot happens. It'sonly been a week since we've had to
deal with the major part, atleast in Canada. It's been a week
since we've really gone hardcore on dealingwith what's been going on. A lot
happens. But um, when Ihear the news talking about the new normal,

(43:42):
and I don't think this is thenew normal. I think this is
just it is what it is atthe moment, I have a feeling celebration
will be canceled. Um, butI don't think we'll hear it until maybe.
Um. I I the way youexplained, Tim, I think that's
the best way, because I thinkthey go in order, they go in
order. They just they don't wantto cancel right now. It's too far

(44:04):
ahead because there's still say, aswe say in Star Wars, is still
hope. But I think it's Uh, I think it is false hope,
because as everybody here has probably beento a con and con flu is a
real thing, whether it's an actualflu or not. Yeah, yeah,
it's it's a real thing. Youdo interact with a lot of people.
And so I'm really disappointed because Iwas planning going with this one. Um.

(44:28):
I still am collecting money saving moneyfor it, but I have a
feeling this is going to be canceledand I'm accepting of that. It's just
that's just the way it goes.I want to focus on I need to
focus on bigger things right now.So yeah, and okay, so Rick,
last year, last year, almostexactly at this time, we're just
like a few week shy of theone year anniversity Star Wars celebration fell in

(44:52):
your backyard, Like yeah, whatwas what was that? Like? That
would be like it that would bethat would be like having a celebration for
me lands in Toronto, Like it'dbe like, oh, it's it's close
enough, Like it's wow, thisis weird. So what was that?
Like you like, Star Wars cameto your dear house. Celebration being here
was about the most well, excludingwhat's happening right now, probably the most

(45:17):
surreal thing that I could think of. And when the announcement came out in
twenty eighteen, it was like, you know, I saw it on Facebook
and just scrolled past it because itnever seemed like it was going to be
a reality. And then one ofmy cousins Semi attacks and was like,
have you seen this? And Iwas at my son's taekwondo class with him,

(45:42):
and like, I was like, and I called my son's instruct her
out because she's a big Star Warsfan too, and I was like,
do you need to see this? And she was like what is going on?
And I'm like Star Wars celebration nextyear and like so she freaked out
and like ran and put it onher calendar right away. And when it
happened, you know, with uhwith you know Tim's poor planning, um

(46:07):
and uh you know, baby makingwe um um he he he could not
go, and um, I youknow, offered to graciously accept his um,
his his ticket to go to celebrationand as you should. Yeah,
you know, it came up andI was like, I'll give you based

(46:30):
value, I'll give you extra andhe said no, just getting me some
of the exclusives and We'll work itout. And I said great. And
then there was like adding to allof that excitement, there was like he
Tim send me a message saying, you know, like like hey, it's
it's in the mail. It shouldbe there by X date. And I
was like, okay, great. And I hadn't told my boss that I

(46:52):
wasn't that I was going to calloff a work you know that Thursday and
Friday, probably not Thursday, whichis Friday, because that was the episode
night panel and the tickets had notcome in, and I'm like, come,
I'm not going to tell him I'mgoing to take the day off if
they're not here, Like, I'mnot gonna. I didn't want to lose
out on the day. So youknow, it ended up. You know,

(47:14):
Thursday rolls around and I'm starting tosee pictures and you know, everybody's
hanging out already. And that Thursdaynight, my son and I went out
and had we had dinner with UM, with David and UH and Nathan and
Sam from Tattooing Sounds. We wentout, we had pizza with him and
a couple other people with UM,the Professor of Positivity himself. U.

(47:36):
You know Neil, you know hecame out and met us and we we
yeah, we had pizza. Itwas great, we all had We had
a good time, you know, just chatting up, you know, our
favorites and what we expect and stuff. And the next day was the episode
nine panel, and again the passershadn't coming to mel yet. So I
went to work and I ended upon my lunch break watching them the episode

(47:57):
nine panel, and probably about ahalf an hour after that, I've texted
me and she said the package hasarrived, and it was like, oh
god. And so Saturday, wealready had tickets for Saturday to go anyway,
the three of us, and sowe went and I ended up giving
my one day pass to another guythat I had talked to one line,

(48:20):
who he had a ticket for himself, and he found one for his mom,
but he didn't have one for hisdad. And they just wanted to
come for the dance and listen tomeet me outside of the arena at about
X time. You can just havemy one day, you know whatever,
have peffun. So we got thereSaturday in time for a Falling Order for
a Jedi Falling Order panel. Wesaw that it was such a whirlwind that

(48:43):
that whole weekend of you know, making sure that I got the exclusives for
Tim and then subsequently for myself, but trying to catch up with people,
Like I don't think I went toa single panel the entire weekend. I
think everything about that was just hangingout with people and talking and like I'd
like, we're I can, we'reall friends, but we've you know,

(49:05):
we've never been face to face orshook hands or things like that. But
I know when the day no shakinghands. No, you know what I
mean, I'm not, you know, I don't. I stopped looking.
I stopped looking. I stopped Istopped looking at my poems a long time
ago. So, um right, well, I actually, Rick, Rick,
what you're saying there is is absolutelytrue. It's very strange. Um,

(49:25):
you were there, I was thereall weekend. We never we've still
never met face to face, right, because what happened. What people don't
understand is, and um, youguys, Tim and Rob, you guys
remember Ben from the Skyhoppers. Wesaw each other. He was coming down
an escalator. It was like froma rom com. And I'm like Ben,
and He's like, because I dothat when I see him, because

(49:45):
his name's Ben, and you haveto do the haunst a little Ben anyway,
So and he comes down and hekind of recognizes me, and because
you know, he's he's a growingboy. He's changed a little bit since
since Celebration Orlando. Anyway, bigbig hugs, and then a skyhopper listener
sees him and then jumps in andhe kind of hijacks our conversation. I'm

(50:06):
like, yeah, I don't worryabout it. Then we're gonna meet up
for a meal, and it justnever happened, and I had one thing
after another, and then finally thelast day on the Monday, I'm like,
we're gonna meet for lunch, andthen I had an autograph signing with
Greg Proops and they bumped that backover lunch time, and it was just
like I never got to see himthe rest of the con Yeah, and

(50:27):
it wasn't weird like we're trying toavoid each other. It's just it's insanity.
It's crazy. Yeah, exactly exactly. And again it's when's the next
time I'm gonna meet in Chicago.I don't probably not that I know,
like you mean, but it's justone of those things. It's really hard
but it's it's it's interesting to hearthat that reaction to a celebration just landed

(50:49):
in my backyard. This is crazy, Like yeah, it was. It
was a crazy weekend and being thereand hanging out with all the different people
that we met. Um. Theonly big panels that I did go to,
like I said, was that fullin order, I know. And
then Monday morning I went to thePhantom Menace panel with UM with Michael Morrissey
who's now writing like Star Wars Adventurecomics and stuff like that. We met

(51:12):
the week prior at a book signingand stuff, so like, yeah,
we've we've stayed in touch and stuff. So it was it was great.
And Tim, I haven't said thisto you so that you can hear it
with your own ears. Thank you, UM for those I know I've told
you and I typed it out.But you know that that's one of those
things that you know, I I, like I said, if I would
have gone before and it would havejust been one day, and you know,

(51:34):
being able to go, you know, those the three days that I
did and hook up with the peoplethat I did who are now going to
be lifelong friends. I mean,I owe you a debt gratitude. And
I know it was just a circumstantialthing because you know your your daughter was
born around that time, but youknow it's you know, I mean,
I joke and say, well thetrade off was I went and you got
a baby, but um, itwas it was a lot of fun and

(51:59):
I owe you thank you well,no, and like to be The thing
that's awesome too, is that youpaid it forward. You had handed off
your your one day pass. Andthat's what I love about the community that
we're all part of, right Andthat's to me, the biggest thing that's
coming to Star's fandom for me personallysince really the Force awakens is this big
community. And you mentioned Rob.You know, none of us have ever

(52:22):
met each other, but we're inthe DMS talking almost every day. You
know, we podcast together, wetalk, we share different things. You
know, we all understand what eachother's likes. You know, when something
weird, like a pez thing popsup, you know Rick tags me in
it, or he takes Sunday insomething, and you know, just random
stuff. You know, Rob's taggingme and all this stuff that he's posting
on Instagram with all the power ofthe forests and Phantom Menace stuff, and

(52:45):
it's so I have this like reallyclose community that we're all a part of
now, and I didn't have thatbefore. And so the ability to hand
off those tickets to someone that Iwould know was going to enjoy it,
you know, it's like sending somethingto a good home. You know,
you want someone that's going to enjoy, take advantage of it, and and
just go crazy with it. Andthen on top of that, you know

(53:07):
you you hooked me up with thePhantom Menace to exclusive figures and the celebration
before that Rob down in Orlando hookedme up with the x Wing Luke.
If I only known how much hewould have been, I would No,
I'm joking, yeah, if it'sonly right, No, No, I
I My my thing is when Isee these things, I just want to
save him from eBay. You mean, like I just scot like if they

(53:27):
if I can, if I canget in line, if I have an
exclusive lottery winner or something, whateverthe case is, and I can snatch
it and get it to a someonethat's gonna really appreciate it that just can't
make the trip for whatever reason.I that's that's just that makes me all
the more happier and also too,I'd be really mermiss if I didn't mention
our good friend Steve Kirk. Hewas right there. That's where the X

(53:50):
Wing lukea is right there is.Yeah, Steve Kirk. He was the
the most generous guy out of outof all of us, and he was
that he lived to make these littlewhat these little yep, these little things
like for uh, whether it wasan X Wing Luke or a poster or
something, he was he lived formaking everybody's little tiny dreams come true.

(54:15):
And so that's why, yeah,I have to comments on that too.
Man. That guy was an absolutegem, you know, you know,
rest in peace, Steve. Uh. He had been to the numerous cons
and he sent me over two yearsexclusive from San Diego Comic Con, an
exclusive Iron Man Mark one. Hesent me this gorgeous Ryan me Actually,

(54:35):
I'm gonna show it off here anart right there, This thing right here
that's framed yep, Steve Kirk. It's all of Ryan Meandering, who's the
concept artist for the MCU. It'sall his concept art from for Captain America,
from the First Avenger right through toInfinity War. Absolutely beautiful pieces.
Autographed. He sends it up tome. He says, you have to
have this. I didn't know whatit was. I said, dude,

(54:57):
let me you know, let mepay you whatever. And and he says,
I don't want anything. And itwas the same thing with the Funkal
Pop And I'll tell you guys thistoo, after talking to him. You
know, before his passing, hehad bought in four tickets to star celebration
and he had only planned on usingfour or four day passes. He had
only planned on using one. Hehad planned on giving away three others.

(55:19):
That's the type of guy he was. He wanted to give other people the
experience. He wanted to fly peopleout. You know, you guys paid
for Who was it thing you guysthat that came out? We had We
know, we had a night therewas Steven And again it's not it's we
just you know, it's one ofthose is Steve. We're just fortunate enough
that we were we were able tosponsor somebody to come up exactly. It
was amazing, but there was anyYeah, and again it was and he

(55:42):
would it was completely I mean again, we're not getting into it here.
It was just one of those thingsthat he approached me, and I'm like,
oh and I it was just somethingI could have done and something he
did and we were only get awhole bunch of people in on it.
It was really great. And andthat's a community, man, That's exactly.
That's what it's about. It's abouthaving those experiences. It comes back
to what we're talking about, youknow, sitting right of Skywalker, going

(56:05):
to celebration whatever it's for the community. But the experiences that we've all been
able to have over the last coupleof years, and you know, even
you know, Rob Rob X aswe call them, the promotion you did
with the coins and all that,oh yeah, absolutely fantastic, you know,
and I know that was that wassupported by the community and all that,
you know, selling them off andin support of the Children's Foundation out

(56:27):
there NBC and just unreal that there'sthat type of work going on within the
community and able to give back.We did the toy drive this year that
Rob gave gave toys too, Soit's it's it's unreal. And I just
that's the thing I love the mostabout Star Wars almost you know, I
love the films and all that, but all of this that's come out of

(56:49):
it is you know some of them. It's the positive community. And Ricky
rus mentioning um uh, mister positivityhimself. And Neil Lowry. I got
to meet him at in Chicago too. We actually presented him with the twenty
nineteen Star Wars com Walf Positivity ord. It was just it was one of
it's just so awesome. But anyway, yeah, anyway, yeah, our

(57:10):
community, if for those not inthe know, if they're if they're getting
real tired of a lot of negativity. The Star Wars Commonwealth. We've discussed
this off mic that pushing forward. We're just we want to be if you
love what you love when we coverall the bases here. We have people
into the comics, into legends, into into all the all the different niche

(57:32):
all the TV shows, all themovies, all the like. Yeah,
we have a we have a wehave a five oh first member, we
have a astronach builder. We haveanything you want, we have it ready
for you. But to end real, I'm gonna throw it to you.
I know, Robi you're looking atsaying something, but um, we're gonna
go a little bit longer on thisepisode. But I would be remissed if

(57:52):
I didn't. Twenty nineteen was abig year for myself and my Vancouver or
my BC counterpart. You. Youbecame officially for those following along a five
first member I think in twenty nineteen, right, it is a year ago
last year. Yeah, and Iin November, I came up in the

(58:12):
rear much to your inspiration. I'mI'm I'm official astronaut builder because I built
an arter D two and you,you know, And the only reason I'm
saying I'm not trying to I wasn'tsorry. I wasn't laughing at that.
I was laughing. There's a there'sa joke about two sentences back that Roman
podcast would have really picked up on. Oh yeah, I know, I
know, I know it's different.I'm aware of that yet. But so

(58:38):
but uh again, a couple ofyears of three two three years in the
making. So congratulations, and nowyou've had a year under your belt.
So I'm gonna ask you while wewere gonna end this show, just on
trooping and what that does. Whatyou're going to that right shoulder of rob

(58:58):
there too? Oh yeah, yeah, got my bucket. I tried to
put it on, but I couldn'tget the microphone on and stuff like that.
So um, sorry, I apologize. The question was no, I
just give you've you've you've had thiswhole ongoing saga five oh first rookie all
we everybody can follow the videos, everybody can catch you online, everybody can
see you're what and you've had setbacksroute at that time and again, I'm

(59:22):
I'm I feel you because I'm adad, I'm a husband, I have
a job, I have a lotof responsibilities. But I had this R
two, like your armor being builtover the last two and a half years,
and now in two not twenty nineteen, we cross that finish line.
Now again, armor and R twosare never done. They're always ninety nine
percent done. We get them presentable. So what was how was that?

(59:46):
Like? You crossed the finish line. Now you're you're you're in you're in
there, you're in the five Ofirst and you're tripping and now you've been
to a few cons and so wasit everything olped? Kind of like,
well, first of all, it'sfunny because oh, my shoulder is the
bucket, but behind that is myboot which is broken, and so I
have to fix that. So it'sas you were saying, it's never it's

(01:00:07):
a never ending work, piece ofwork. But it's been a year.
And when I did the last video, when I thought it was the last
video of my very first troop inVictoria and blubbering and like all over it,

(01:00:28):
I thought that was gonna be it. But then you know, I
you see it for the videos, but I decided that I was watching people
like Alaska Vader, who is DarthVader in Alaska. If that didn't,
if it got enough for you,I watched his vlogs and I really enjoyed
watching his vlogs and how he wouldjust show what he did as a troop,

(01:00:51):
and I was like, you knowwhat, this is a lot of
fun. I can do this aswell. And I did a little bit
that just after my first troop, and I was kind of doing things like
that. They were kind of long, long to edit, long to watch.
Sorry everybody, but but I decide, you know what, I'm going
to do short vologues of Oldham Rookieand just kind of here's where I'm doing
today, here's what I'm doing here, here's what I'm doing there. And

(01:01:13):
I got a lot of positive response, and not just from my friends in
the Audham Garrison. But also Ihad people it's like, contacted me off
air and off air, but contactingme and saying, you know what,
I'm inspired now I want to dothis. And I was able to meet
like, for example, Terry fromone of my last videos. He came
to the fan expo from Kamloops andthat's a that's a long way away.

(01:01:35):
It's a few hours drive. Youdon't it's not a day trip. And
he came down to do trooping andhe was inspired by Terry. Cho my
partner of the Rim Rookie was inspiredby me and his own inspiration as well,
and it was nice to meet himand nice to contact get keep in
contact. You talk about community, you're building this community of people who want
to do this for good. Imean all the things that you guys have

(01:01:59):
been talking about, um supporting somebody, buying stay in line and getting in
figure for this guy, raising moneyfor these people. This is what we
should be doing as a normal humancommunity of people. And this is why
I like about the positive part ofStar Wars. This is this is the

(01:02:20):
stuff that I focus on. Iignore that BS that's online, and I
focus on I make my own positivityto and and that's why I guess again,
Neil is just an awesome dude.We we and this is what this
is, and this is what theAdam Rookie has been able to do for
me. I've been able to reachout to other people, teach other people.
I don't have a lot of lists, followers, or viewers, and

(01:02:43):
I don't give a crap about thatas long as I get to the ones
that need to hear the message Iwant to hear. I want people to
understand this is what I do.This is how we help community, This
is how we can help others, and especially in times like this, when
you see people who are the mostvulnerable having to clude themselves while others just
kind of go to the beach andparty, and it's just like you're missing

(01:03:07):
the point. You're missing the pointof those who need help. This is
not about you. So when Iso going back to what you're saying,
Rob doing this for a whole yearand really meeting kids who needed help,
and meeting adults who have kids thatneed help, and just being adults who
need help or need an outlet orneed to give back. I don't know

(01:03:30):
how to give back. I don'tknow how to break this feeling of emptiness.
I don't know how to do something. I need to fulfill my life
with something, and that's how Igot into it. I need to be
more fulfilled. And this has givenme such a level of happiness and fulfillment
that is only second next to thebirth of my son. And it's just

(01:03:52):
like, I feel so positive aboutlife when I'm in that bucket and helping
others and uh, and it's it'sit's tough because right now we're not allowed
to do this. It was toughnot not not trooping, and we had
a whole line of things going onand it's tough not to do that because
it's not just tough for me becauseI'm missing out, but there are cherries

(01:04:14):
that need this help. There thereare people that need money for support and
they're not getting it right now,and I know where we have to figure
out what is more important. Andyes, this is making sure that people
who are vulnerable right now are safe, but it's also it's just like it's
not just and I hear you.I was supposed to be right now at

(01:04:36):
Toronto Comic Con as Yeah, itwas supposed to be. But yes,
and and that was I was allset up and I was getting the exhibitor
pass and here we go, likeyou know, it's just a different thing.
And again I'm the astromac builder.Like I mentioned earlier, I finished
my R two in November, andand Rob he is, he is gorgeous,

(01:04:57):
love beautiful. I And what thepeople don't really when you're a five
first member or part of the Rebelsor part or an astroback builder, when
they meet when you got in areal authentic armor or you got a real
authentic droid, people it's like they'remeeting that person they've been watching on the
screen. I took mine when Ifirst finished mine, I took it out

(01:05:21):
to my local mall and I tookit early Sunday morning before them all opened,
just well with all the mall walkers, just to kind of give him
a test run in the out inthe public. And then the mall opened
and it took me hours to getout because everybody was taking selfies with my
R two, like he's just alittle celebrity. And there was a young
lady, she was twenty if shewas a day, and she was almost

(01:05:42):
in tears and she's like, Ican't believe I Alm was called in sick
today because she was working at oneof the hair salons and she's like,
this is the best thing ever. It's like she was meeting R two and
I'm like and I'm I'm like,you know, I'm controlling them, right,
but anyway, but I didn't ruinthem. Kitty Baker isn't in Yeah
exactly, yeah, yeah, it'slike you know, but it's just it's

(01:06:02):
the joy that it brings people. And not to mention, like you said,
Rob, all the money that's raisedthrough these outfits is just it's nothing
but positive and it's been I wouldjust I just wanted to mention that at
the end of the show because whenyou were you've done a lot of episodes,
even on your Generation Next Wing, and you're talking about you get that
part in the mail and then yougotta paint it, but you gotta make

(01:06:26):
a cut, and it's like youonly got really one shot at it,
and it's like I have to justclose my eyes and do it because you
can't practice doing it. It's likeone of those things. And I was
like, I was following along rightwith you, and when you made that
final push, I'm like, Igotta get mine done too, And anyway,
it just that final push, thatfinal push brought me out of a

(01:06:47):
lot of negative feelings, negative thoughts, negative emotions. We all have things
that go on our lives, andthere was a whole period of time where
nothing was being done and it wasjust because life got in the way and
it got me out of that thatit got me out of falling into areas

(01:07:10):
that I didn't want to get into. And so, you know, it's
just it's it's inspiring when you're you'redoing something good. And like the last
con we did, we raised wewere two dollars in twenty two dollars in
a nickel short of ten thousand wellsfor charity, two different charities. And
it's just like and we were justall we were doing was in costume.

(01:07:32):
People wanted to take a picture ofus or shoot me in the head with
a NERF gun. That was that'sall we had, punching Baby Yoda.
For punching Baby Yoda yet and youknow, it's just it's a lot of
fun. So if there's something thatI can say, you know, kind
of where we're at right now,you know, we talked about how we
is you know, a bunch ofnerds who thirty forty years ago wouldn't have

(01:07:58):
congregated in the same way. Probably, you know, looking at the grander
scheme of everything that's happening right nowwith the world. I pet mentioned this
Blue Harvest on their latest show andHappy Birthday hausberk Hard Today's birthday. But

(01:08:19):
the idea that you know star warsthematically from episode one into episode nine starts
off with this idea of symbiosis, how two things need each other to coexist.
And in the end, whether youlike the idea or not, there's
this idea of a diet of twopeople's coming together to face a larger enemy

(01:08:43):
or whatever it is. We're ata point now in the largest human history
kind of scale of things where we'rebeing told to not come together. We're
not being we're being told to stayapart because it's a matter of public health
and things that we do as afandom, talking online to other people or
taking a little bit of time toput out a podcast as a distraction for

(01:09:06):
things is a way to to maybehelp people say, like listen, we're
going to get through all of this. It's not easy. And yes,
you know, charities need uh,financial backing, and they need to see
faces in places to put smiles onthe faces of people who need it or

(01:09:27):
um, you know, not beingnot falling into the whims of a negative
media cycle or whatever is out there. Having something like Star Wars they have
that larger theme. Uh. LikeI said, symbiosis and us connecting also
has that theme of hope. We'rerunning all the way through it and we
kind of we're living in a veryweird, scary time right now, and

(01:09:50):
you know, for for everything that'sgoing on, you know, if we
can do this for an hour fifteenminutes or an hour and twenty minutes to
help try to take people's minds offof things and do away with the stresses
of what's becoming a normal everyday lifeat least temporarily, you know, that's

(01:10:12):
kind of what people need. Andyou know, I'm glad to be able
to have the community that we have, and not just the Star Wars Commonwealth
p the Star Wars fandom in general, the friends that we've made over the
last couple of years, so thatbehind the scenes and DMS or in phone
calls or phase times or whatever you'redoing, you could talk to people who
might be feeling a little anxious rightnow about what's happening, and that's having

(01:10:34):
this social networking platform or we don'thave to be in the same room to
share our concerns. And for usspecifically, it would not have happened if
it wasn't for Star Wars or ageneral nerdom that again, we grew up
where maybe we got picked on forliking a thing a little too long,
or we were reading commuquence at atime when it wasn't cool, or whatever

(01:10:56):
the case was. Now we havea platform where it's kind of like the
hell that we can be nerds butalso be humans and take the time to
say like, hey, we're goingto be all right, your family's great.
Thanks for that thing. You mademe feel great after you said the
thing, whatever it is, umAnd for my part, you know,
I like the idea of being ableto tune into a show and have it

(01:11:16):
kind of you know, in aweird kind of posterity to say that,
like, man, it's it's it'sa little window into the time that we
were living in and I'm grateful forthis right now. So thank you,
mister Cast for putting this together. You know, even we've talked about,
you know, having other shows, you know, going on unrelated to current
events. But um, I lovethis. I love that you know,
we can do something like this.Um and my pleasure people myself. Yeah,

(01:11:42):
more to that point, this isthis is exactly what the roundtable was
all about. It was about toget It was a it was a chance
for me to squeeze my put myfoot in the podcast at Star Wars podcasting
door, which I wanted desperately, but I didn't want to undertake the whole
publishing because I have that going on. But secondly, it was trying to
get It was wanting to get Knightsto the Commonwealth. And we don't like

(01:12:03):
to say fans. We're all listenersand we're all friends. Like no one's
a fan of the other guy. It's really weird. But we like to
have our listeners come on with usand get a chance to to podcast and
see what it's like and talk toother people that you that are we're literally
in your ears every week for halfan hour an hour, and it's it's

(01:12:24):
kind of cool. We've had lotsof people on this show that we're nervous
coming on for the first time, and then they went off and started their
own podcast. I mean, there'sa few of them out there that and
they're still going. It's it's it'sfor me. It's weird. It's like
kind of like, oh, didwe plant that seat? Well no,
but we can kind of take creditfor it, right, that's where they
you know. But but yeah,I completely I agree with you one hundred

(01:12:46):
percent. And you know what,we couldn't end it any better. I'm
really glad we have this community.I'm glad we get to all hang out
because for Rob, Max and I, if we were hanging out with you
guys in the eighties, it'd beweird. Just so we are a little
bit older than you. So I'mglad that we've all met now, you
know, because you know, it'sjust you know, are we still using

(01:13:09):
freezing? Yes? Okay, it'sso yeah. But uh, and again,
for everybody that's jumped in on thechat, everybody that's watching now,
and anybody that's listening in the futurewhen this drops on the Talk Star Wars
feed, Uh, thanks for hangingout. We're gonna do a few more
of these, depending on how longthis uh this self quarantining and stuff goes

(01:13:32):
on. But you know, Ijust want to mention I'm sure for all
all four of us here, likejust you know, we're all around hop
into our slide into our dms,you know, And I'm not being weird.
It's just if you just want tohang out cool, like we're somebody's
we're all over the world, sosomebody's always up right, you know,
and like some somebody's always going tobe there to answer. Ay you up?

(01:13:56):
Yeah, it was busy plus someship Disney pleasant shi. Well okay,
you know what on that note,I'm gonna swear I'm Rick ended it
so nicely and then you know, and then off the rails. Yeah,
thank you. So I'm gonna startwith Rick. We're gonna go around the
horn. Um, if anybody wantsto uh you mean, slide into your

(01:14:19):
d MS or just uh catch youon Twitter. Where can people find you
on social media? You can findme personally at cat Baines Boonie. Um,
you can al still listen to mea month so chatting up with Kyle
on Tunneling Saber or the other show, Yeah, so called Cannon Pod.

(01:14:43):
We've got one plan to record atthe end of this month. It should
be a lot of fun. Um. Yes, the other show that that
name that was named by a supercool and handsome guy. Um me and
I am also every once in awhile showing up on a show called The

(01:15:06):
Drunken Menace podcast and which is alot. So that's apparently working for the
Techno Union by the sounds of it. Yeah sorry, yeah, yeah,
no problem, no this and believeme this for the Roundtable, this is
dicey at best. And again forall for all the Roundtable listeners, they
know audio quality. We're literally everyshow is different. It's not like the

(01:15:28):
three of us are getting together nextweek and doing the same thing. It's
one of those things that gets setup. Um rawbacks Generation Next Wing.
I know trooping is on hold fora little bit, but tell us about
all your good stuff that you gotgoing on online. So you can find
my podcast Generation Next Wing anywhere We'velisten to podcasts, Star Wars, Commonwealth
Network. You can also find wehave a YouTube channel where I'm doing it

(01:15:51):
supposedly me doing videos but at theOuter Room Rookie. You can find on
our Generation Next Wing YouTube page, and it's just again information about the five
first how to join, how tobuild a Scout Trooper costume, and what
I do on a on a typicaltroop or prepare for a trooper Just the
life of a five first member.Uh. The Generation Actually podcast also has

(01:16:11):
two other five first members as well, Steve three and Jamie Pale Ryder,
So if you have any questions, you can contact one of us three.
And then of course Neil Sharma isour the co host and we're trying to
push him into joining as well.He make a great Lando or a will
row Hood. Other than that, though, um, the YouTube channel's got
hopefully going to have some more stuff. We got episodes coming out to hopefully

(01:16:33):
every week. Um, we're we'regonna be podcasting from via Skype and stuff
like that now. So it's gonnabe a little bit a little bit new
for us next a little while. But we're just gonna have a lot of
fun. We talk star Wars aswell as other nineteen eighties and nineties fun
stuff. I think top I don'tknow when this is coming up. I
think we're gonna be doing top Gunand H and Jamie's hosting an episode which

(01:16:56):
is gonna be too. Yeah,so's he's been talking about hosting. So
he did a Generation Next wing GXWVersus Trivia contest just a couple of weeks
ago, so, which is alot of fun. But yeah, there
you go, and obviously Twitter,Facebook, Instagram, all that great stuff.
Awesome tim Where where can people findyou and listen to you? Yeah,
you can find me every Thursday atthe nerd RM. That's on Twitter,

(01:17:20):
and we got our episodes that droppedthe Nerd Room podcast every single Thursday.
We're transitioned a bit here from weusually do in person stuff. You
can see behind me for those inthe video. That's our table where the
four of us myself, Sunday,Troy and Carlos hit the hit the mics
to talk about stars, Marvel andDC with the news and all that kind
of dwindling out here. Over thenext few weeks, we're going to transition

(01:17:42):
a bit looking back at some moviesand that TV shows, figure collecting and
all that. We're all big collectorshere. Kind of an eclectic mix of
individuals at the mic every single weekwith varying opinions and all that. So
we have an absolute blast there andwe'd appreciate you guys. Come check us
out if you haven't already, andyou can find on Instagram or Twitter at

um myself, you can find myself. I am at Robert mmcast on Twitter
and on Instagram, also too onInstagram or I'm sometimes not very much on
toy but mostly on Instagram. I'vestarted the hashtag Rob's are too, and
basically what I'm doing. I'm notdoing the video series like like Rawbacks,

(01:18:45):
but I'm kind of if you followRob's are hashtag robs are too. I
just started it. There's not awhole lot up there yet. If whenever
somebody meets my R two and takesa picture with him a selfie, which
happens a lot, but for thosethat are that put it online and they
can use that hashtag and that wayI can kind of see hopefully in the
next few years, I'll be ableto look back at hashtag robs R two

(01:19:06):
and see you know my uh,the adventures my archwo has been on.
Is that letter R number two orthe word R two. No, it's
a it's ah robs R O Bs R and then two new new merrit
two. Yeah. So anyways, yeah, check that out if you want
again. I have a weekly showwith the Roman Podcast. It is not

(01:19:28):
Star Wars, and it is soit's for it's it's it's a certain required
taste, but it's not for kids. Let's just say that. Tons of
phrasing and innuendo and all sorts ofstuff. So, but my good buddy
Roman and I we've been doing it. We just put out two hundred and
eight episodes straight without missing a weekto do or those podcasters out there.

(01:19:56):
We when we crossed that two hundred, it was like just such a relief.
Now it's like it's almost like wegot that cal Ripken thing. It's
like, huh, how long arewe gonna go? It was just it's
crazy, like we've we've for fouryears never missed a week. Now,
we haven't had an episodic release. It's been a like if we can ye
review goes in or whatever. Butit's a ton of work, man,

(01:20:17):
it is, it is, andand well you guys made it there too,
and you guys appreciate it exactly. It's one of those things. So
but anyway, um check that outat if you're following this live stream on
