(00:03):
Okay, so everybody knows that whenI was a kid, I was a
little strange. I liked my toys, my action figure specifically to be dressed
in such a way that they couldgo do mundane tasks like go do laundry,
go to McDonald's, go shop forgroceries, things like that. Well,
as a result, figures like Rambowho didn't have a shirt on couldn't
(00:26):
do those sorts of things because,as we all know, no shirt,
no shoes, no service. Innineteen eighty seven, Hasbro gave me the
action figure of my dreams. Thiswas a guy that was dressed like a
regular Joe no pun intended with thepossible exception of the fact that he carried
a weapon on his leg, butother than that, he could go anywhere
(00:51):
that he wanted to, except maybea five star restaurant. Because he was
wearing a Hawaiian shirt, which Iloved Hawaiian shirts as a kid, and
I love Hawaiian shirts now, andhe was wearing, like, you know,
just green pants and black boots,so we could go anywhere. I
loved this guy. Nobody else thoughtthis guy was cool except me. I
loved this guy. So time goesby I had one as a kid,
lost him in the transition to adulthood. Several years ago, I go to
(01:17):
the GI Joe convention, which happenedto be held here in the Dallas area,
and I'm looking for this character andI finally find one, and right
as I go to pick it up, a woman grabs it. She says,
nope, I'm buying this. Likeokay, she I have. I
have three hundred of these at home. Every time I see one, I
have to buy it, like, well, could you maybe let me have
Nope, sorry, this is mine. That's when I learned that some collectors
(01:38):
are jerks. But that's okay becauseI found one at the next table before
she got there and bought it.Got one. I've got it. It's
it's in good shape. It's onmy shelf at home. The figure I'm
talking about is Chuckles from series sixof G I. Joe. And that's
why I'm here Talking Toys. Welcometo Talking Toys with Taylor and Jeff,
(02:15):
where we go back in time todiscuss our favorite toys, one toy line
at a time. Oh, andwelcome to Talking Toys with Taylor and Jeff.
(02:38):
I'm Taylor, and I'm Jeff andit's time to talk g I Joe
again. So you know what thatmeans. We have a very very special
guest. We're joined by mister DanZare of Coffee with Kenobi. Dan say
hello to everyone out there in podcastland. Hello friends, Yo, Joe
(02:59):
and cole Bran and all that greatstuff. It is wonderful to be back.
I'm telling you every time I getthat text from Jeff. Now I
get a lot of text from Jeff, fortunately for me. But when I
see hey, it's time to talkGi Jogan, I am there. Although
this line may have stretched the limitsof credulity for me, but we'll see.
Now, you did say that youyou had a story about this being
(03:20):
the end of your of your childhood. Would you like to share that with
us? Now, you know,I'm thinking I'm gonna let that sort of
marinate because I have a feeling it'sgoing to come out as we talk,
and undoubtedly as as Taylor shares hisfavorites, and then you and I both
grow Okay, gotcha, He's notwrong, folks, He's not wrong.
(03:42):
So okay, so a series six, This is going to confuse me from
here on out, Folks. Seriessix came out of nineteen eighty seven,
so we had a discussion before westarted. And by we had a discussion,
I mean I made a made apronouncement and Taylor groused about it.
But this this line. According toyojo dot com, this wave included the
battle Force two thousand figures, butmost of those didn't actually come out until
(04:05):
nineteen eighty eight. So we're gonnagive battle Force two thousand its own show.
I thought that would be a goodway to appease Taylor, but he
just can't be He can't be satisfied. Folks, there's no pleasing this guy.
No, and say, when itcomes to toys, he really is.
He wants, he wants his ZoomerBoomers, wants what he wants when
he wants it. That sounds likeadult diaper. Well, if you're listened
(04:30):
to the show before, you knowof the story about the Zoomer Boomers.
That was a toy that my brotherwas obsessed with when he was a kid.
But more about that at another time. But but Taylor, hopefully just
we can do a battle Force twothousand at some point in the near future.
We won't subject Dan to that one, since he didn't even know what
we were talking about, but sufficeto say, it's as close to Megaforce
figures as we ever actually got right. And if we talk about in the
(04:54):
near future, it'll work out becausethese figures are actually from the near future.
Well back at Night eight seven,Yes, yeah, battle Force two
thousand and now that we're in twentytwenty three, So we'll get to them.
I'm gonna say maybe sometime this year, I I will, I will
make that there. So so Seriessix we had two, four, six,
eight, ten, twelve, fourteen, sixteen, seventeen carded figures.
(05:20):
We had well, I guess nineteenif you consider the Cobra Law Team,
and I guess twenty one if youconsider Sergeant Slaughter's Renegades, or twenty two.
I can't do math. And wehad a couple of mail aways,
be those being the refrigerator William, the refrigerator Perry, and a Steel Brigade
(05:40):
figure which I'm not familiar with.I'm hoping Taylor can shed some light on
that. Yes, And then whenit comes to vehicles, we had a
ton of vehicles. We had fourteenvehicles, and then we had some motorized
action packs, which I don't reallyconsider vehicles, but we'll talk a little
bit about those. And then ofcourse we had the battle force two thousand
vehicles, which we won't talk about. Then we had two more Dreadnock vehicles
(06:02):
as well, So we had atotal of twenty twenty vehicles in this line.
No, sixteen vehicles in this linethat we're going to talk about today.
I told you, folks, mathis not my strong suit. That's
why I went into acting. Sothis was probably the nearing the end of
(06:23):
my massive collecting of the Josh Taylorhave a feeling that you kept going or
is it the same for you?Was waved? Was this the last one
that you really gathered a lot from? No, no, No, I
was continuing on for a couple ofyears after this. Okay, well,
when we get to the next wave. There's only a couple of that that
(06:45):
I had from that wave. Sowhen we get to that one, that'll
be interesting. Okay. But butyou but you had quite a few from
this one as well. Yes,I did. Yeah, I had quite
a few from from this wave. And there were there were a few that
I like coveted it all this waythat I could never could find. But
um, this was kind of awave of figures where I even had a
lot of hand me downs from neighborsthat were getting rid of figures and I
(07:10):
was able to get some of thiswave from them and complete and like like
really really got to got to havesome fun with them. Um, there's
there's some cool ones in here,I think, and then there's some that
are just like yeah, oh asalways yeah, as always here Dan,
(07:32):
how about you? How much ofthis wave did you collect when you were
a kid? Well, again,I want to say thanks for having me
on. Um. Do you knowlike when you get like a really nasty
cut on like your fingers something, and every time you bend your finger it
opens up at least once a week. To me, that's what looking at
Yeah, well that's what happened asI prepared for this partoon because this was
(07:59):
the beginning of the and for me, as as I look through this list,
I think and then before I knew, I think I had four of
these. That was it. That'sall I could possibly handle. This line
kind of breaks my heart because asmuch as I love g I, Joe
and you both know it's my favoriteaction figure line of anything, Ever,
(08:22):
this was a line that that puta fork in it for me. It's
not unlike when Michael Jordan came outof retirement and played for the Washington Wizards.
So I just twitched a little.I just can't really think about that
because to me, you know,Michael Jordan is a Chicago bull who won
six championships, and Gi Joe isfrom nineteen eighty two to nineteen eighty six
(08:43):
and the rest of it, Ijust I don't know. There's um,
I even despise some of this linemore than I do a Disney plus this
Lowkey series, and that's oh wow. I didn't realize you had such strong
anger about the Lukey series. We'sto talk about that off, Mike.
Yeah, not anger, more like, um, well yeah that's another sho.
So what is it about this wavethat just didn't work for you and
(09:07):
apparently still doesn't. Yeah? Wellokay, so even coming up with my
list, I struggled, and I'msure we'll get it as we go through
our lists. But what I've alwaysliked about Gijoe is that there's still like
an ounce of realism sprinkled in withthe with the fantasy elements, right,
and but with this line, youknow, as you look across the board,
(09:31):
you started to get into cartoony stufflike stuff that doesn't feel realistic in
any way, shape or form, and it just seems like I don't know
if they were dipping into, youknow, the drugs or what's going on
here, because just some of thesethings just don't look like my Gi Joe
and I understand, like something likesome cranky fanboy and I'm comfortable with that
(09:52):
one. You're not quite yelling atclouds yet because I'm glad to other people
like it. So do you knowit's like yelling at clouds yet? No,
as far as you know. That'swhy the cameras off. But but
yeah, the challenge is just thatsome of these just don't look like they
look like spacey generic Fisher Price onesthat no oney ever purchased. I just
(10:13):
hopefully I'll be a little more eloquentas time with some, but they just
don't feel like the realistic U LarryHamma driven g I Joe, which is
ironic because one of the figures issupposed to look like Larry Hamma. Let's
see. Yeah, I don't know, and and and every single vehicle,
I just I can't, I can't. I just they're not GI Joe to
(10:35):
me actly, not my Gi Joe. There's there's two out of this line.
For me that just that kind ofI think fall into that. But
the others I think we're okay.Yeah, I think we talked about this
last on the last show that Taylorand I recorded, when we were talking
about the mask split seconds line,g I Joe took a long time to
jump the shark. I'm not readyto say that this is where they jump
(10:56):
the shark, but I am goingto say this is where they were going
up the ramp on the skis ohwell, Cobra live if that doesn't jump
on the shark hut well, andand that is they were in mid air
when that happened. And as wego through, I'll tell you why I
don't feel like this is a completeshark jump moment, because there is so
much to like about this way forme and Taylor too, apparently, but
(11:20):
you guys probably both know which figurewas it that was based on Larry Hama's
appearance. Was that tumble ratt?Okay, so that's what I thought.
That's interesting. I always forget aboutthat. That's very cool. So uh
okay, So I had a bunchof these figures I don't think I had
any of the vehicles. Did eitherone of you have any of these vehicles?
(11:41):
Dan? Did you have any ofthese or did you just skip it
all together? I had none ofthe vehicles. In fact, I didn't
even recognize any of them. That'sthat's how helpful to hippen, even the
defiant, even the defiant. Yeah, I just I never I don't even
remember that. I remember hearing youboth talk about it on is it a
vehicle versus a place set? Actually, I find memories listen to you all
(12:03):
talk about that, But no,I don't remember it in the least.
I remember a handful of the figures, and some of them I literally had
to click on the Yojoe images andcompletely refresh myself because none of them rang
a bell at all, and whichtells me how little they impacted me,
which is it makes me sad.I take no joy in not liking the
majority of this line, believe me, because Gi Joe well and this was
(12:26):
this was an attempt to sort ofrefresh the line. This was the first
line or the first wave that cameout after the movie gij the movie,
which is why you have Falcon andJinks in this line because they were introduced
there, and I believe tunnel Rabbitwas introduced in that movie as well.
Yes, I'm not sure. Idon't. I kind of put that movie
out of my mind too because ofthe Incobra Commander turns to an actual righting,
(12:46):
Yeah, the movie is I mean, what more do I need?
Movies that great? Now? Now, Taylor, well you're gonna have a
difference of opinion here because Taylor, you love Cobra, lah, don't you.
No, I think they're okay, but like you know, when when
I go back, like the wholeit's like the idea, like I love
the genetic aspect of what Cobra iswanting to do. However, like even
(13:13):
like I like Serpentur, and Ithink that's like kind of the the height
of really going into the genetic sortof thing. The Cobra Law to me,
does jump the shark. It goesa little too far. Though I
do like one of the character outof the Cobra Law series, like one
of them's design quite a bit,but not for like a J Joe design
that makes sense. Yeah, I'mglad to hear you say that, because
(13:35):
to me, it seems more almostlike towards the limit of sect. Hearts
are almost like some of the moreeccentric Masters of the Universe figures. Yeah,
absolutely agree. So so Dan,which of the figures did you have?
Okay, so I think Um,I think I know I had Um.
(14:01):
Oh gosh, what's his name?Hip? No, Gypsy Boy,
crystal Ball, I had crystal Ball, I had Falcon, I had Um.
I believe I had Raptor. It'sfunny that we have a Falcon and
Raptor in the same line. Andif you put the two side beside and
said which one of these is namedFalcon, I would go with Raptor.
(14:24):
Yeah, I know exactly. AndI had Outback, And I don't remember
if I had Big Boa or mybrother did. And I honestly can't remember
if I had version three of CobraCommander or not Man. Again, these
the other ones I could tell youlike where I was, and I bought
them, you know, But theothers are just like, okay, they
(14:45):
don't And I remember if I hadTunnel right or not. But now that
I know, he's like Laria Hama, I wish I did well and I
had Tunnel Rat. Like I said, I didn't have any of the vehicles,
but I had tunnel rat, Ihad the new version of gung Ho.
I had law and order, Ihad outback, I had had sneak
peek, I had fast draw, and I had chuckles your chuckles story that
(15:09):
boggles how uncool was, right, lady, I mean God? And she
the woman had like she said,oh, and I also had of well,
when we'll talk about it later.Abou the Battle Force two thousand.
I had Maverick as well, um, because I liked the top gun and
I thought it was to cruise figure. Um. Yeah, and she said
she had like three hundred of analmost. I don't. I just don't
(15:30):
understand that. It's like the guythat was buying all the Rammans and he
was buying her Raman because he wantedto corner the market. What in the
world's yeah? This this woman though, like I can, I can see
wanting like every variant of something,or like me, I have several,
like I have several bosques and severalhung best been Han solos because I carried
(15:52):
one with me everywhere and they haveone for display, and then I have
something that are put away. Iget that, But just buying up everyone
you can can't. I just don'tunderstand it. Yeah, is that one
of the seven deadlist. I thinkit's action figure also like action figure Cluttony
or AFT for short and so Taylor, I showed her to ask which of
(16:15):
these did you have? So?I had fast back, Um, I
had crystal ball, Um, Ihad croc Master. I did have the
battle you had What can you say, fast back or fast draw? You
said fat back. He was thinkingabout bacon be mean fast raw fast raw.
Yes, okay, I thought Ihad missed one somewhere Cobra commander um.
(16:40):
And then on the next row psychout lawn order. Uh. And
then out of the vehicles I had, let's see, I know, I
had the buzz Boar, I hadthe Pogo ballistic ball, the c Ray,
the Cobra Wolf, and I thinkthat was it. Oh No,
(17:03):
also had motorized packs. I hadClimber, I had the radar station,
and I had the ropewalker. Ohand then I also had the air skiff
from the Dreadnocks. This is whyI said, I shuddered to ask.
I know, I've never really maybeit'll come up. I've never truly looked
at the Cobra Mamba until this moment. If not for the paint scheme.
(17:26):
That would be a heck of acool vehicle. But it was Prince Flies
it from Minnesota. Well no,but it looks good with taxo vipers.
Well, I mean, who doesn't, to be honest. So the helico
(17:48):
that the ropewalker looks like it couldhave been something along the lines of Sky
Commanders. Is that kind of howthat worked? Taylor? Kind of Yeah.
It had like two sets of clawsthat would row, take one in
front of the other. So onceyou put like a little zip line,
you could have it walk up therope, and I mean it would.
It would walk up a rope withinreason, like like maybe a thirty degree
(18:14):
incline. So it wasn't like toocrazy, but it was. It was
kind of cool just and it fita full size fee. I remember that.
I think maybe I've seen that one. Maybe do you still have it?
I thought maybe it was in yourhouse, Okay, I think,
well yeah, I think. Imean, after all these years, I
(18:37):
inherited a bucket of them. Nowmy Joe's that I had when I was
a kid are all gone, butI inherited another bucket of Joe's and a
lot of them were things I had, and so um some of them My
god, I was cleaning up andI mean someone just fell apart, like
as soon as you were trying toclean because they'd been out in a barn.
So like I had like really dryout joints that were breaking and busting.
(19:02):
And there's lots of figures that I'vebeen Like when I go to the
Joe show, when I get togo, um, I go through the
parts beIN because I have a listof figure replacement parts and pieces I need.
And Folks, when he says hegoes through the band, he will
get on his hands and knees andspend. Like one time I told the
serve before we went to a toystore and after two hours I had to
say, Taylor, I've got togo. I need to eat because he
(19:25):
had been going through every single bin, going through every single item in every
single bin. I miss that Jadendoesn't have those bins available anymore. Parts.
Where is this Joel convention? Isa well, there is one that
they have here. It's the It'sjust like a local GI Joe collectors club,
But there is every year there isa Is it worth me driving down
(19:48):
for? No? It's it's asmall show. It's a good local show,
but it's a small show. It'sliterally like just vendors, and um,
I don't I'm not even sure theydo any like. There's not every
any like celebrities signing or any like. I don't think there are any like
Dad last year and I was somad because I was supposed to go,
and my kid he there was somesort of fit, and now we were
(20:11):
supposed to go. Omember what itwas because we told him he wasn't buying
any toys and he threw a fit, and so my wife's like, you
know, then you're not gonna go, And so I was mad. And
that was the year that not onlyLarry Hamma was there, the Pixel Dan
also showed up. So Larry Hamais actually going to be pretty close to
(20:32):
my house in like two weeks, like about ten minutes away. That's so
I'm wondering if I should go.You should And the convention I went to,
there is a there's an annual GiJoe convention that goes to different places
in the country, and several yearsago it just happened to be in Frisco,
right down the street from where Ilive. Yeah, and you know,
I took that back. I said, I didn't have any the vehicles.
I think I may have had theCoastal Defender. I just didn't know
(20:52):
that's what it was because it's abox that folds out, and I probably
thought it went with something else becauseit doesn't look like it's g I Joe.
So uh all right, So solet's talk about these figures. Let's
talk just about a few. Let'slet's talk about a few of the new
figures and then the a few ofthe the the new versions of figures.
(21:15):
So first off, um, youmentioned Dan. You mentioned that you had
Big Boa. You're your your brother? Did? Big Boa and kroc Master
are the two that are the weirdestto me because we try to keep this
a family show, but croc Masteralways reminds me of the Gimp and pulp
fiction. Oh why did you sayMaster the same anymore? Tell me I'm
(21:37):
wrong, You're wrong. He's gotmore color and he's more he's comforted an
alligator. He's a yeah he is. I wrote something about him, which
he'll bring up, okay. AndBig Boa was like the Cobra's trainer,
right, he was like, they'rethe guy who was like their sergeants laughter.
(21:59):
Yeah, he was like the exactlyQBC or the close Quarter of Combat
trainer. Okay, got it,got it, got it? And then
like you said, big a Cropmaster, it was exactly what he talked about.
And then we had Crystal Ball, who I was kind of got he.
(22:22):
So doctor Mindbender was a scientist, but crystal Ball was really like a
mystic. Right is that how itgoes? He's a hypnotist Yeah, pretty
much. Yes, and he usesa shield which did you read what it
says about him? Like I didnot? It's been a while, all
right, are you ready for yourmind to be blown? Okay? So
I didn't know this until today, but there's a legend that Stephen King is
(22:45):
connected to this figure and either heor his son created this figure and wrote
the file card. So either StephenKing or now And then sneak peek Um
is the namesake of his son.If you click sneak peek Um, the
character's name is Stephen King's son's name, and he's from uh banger Main Wow
(23:08):
King. How crazy is that that? That gives it a lot of that's
cool hills in my book. Yeah, that's very cool, very cool.
Huh. I like that kind ofmakes me have a I have a crystal
ball. That's why you're here listenersfor hard hitting news. Absolutely, that's
what we bring Dan on because hebrings the heat. I don't think and
(23:33):
I never noticed that on on on. Of course, when I was a
kid, I wouldn't have known StephenKing kid's name. I didn't even know.
I thought I know Joe Hill.I didn't know Owen Keane. Um.
Wow, that's actually kind of dI kind of want to sneak no,
I know, I know if Iever find mine, Taylor, I'll
bequeath it to you, Okay. And then we had I have three hundred
(23:57):
and ninety nine of them, andevery time I find I'm looking for,
nobody gets a sneak peek at anythingwith Dan's around him. We had we
had the rap, We had Rapptor, who was the Falconer and he was
worked for Cobra, right, notg I Joe, Do I have that
right? Yes? Okay, Iguess you might know him by the name
(24:17):
Blue Falcon. I don't know shirtlessblue Falcon. He is. Doesn't he
look like he belong? Does Yeah? He is? I prefer absolutely a
Cobra. Yeah, his his actualcard back. It's just so odd because
(24:38):
it's like you've got all these likesoldiers and you've got this guy that's got
a falcon head and wings on inthis giant medallion and he just, yeah,
does not seem to fit this isthis is one of the ones that
I'm just kind of like, Idon't get it. And well, that's
the interesting that's the interesting thing aboutthis line. I'm so proud of you
(25:00):
right now, Taylor. I don'tget it either, just so well,
the four that we've talked the fourthat we've talked about, and then we
also have the technic, the technoviper, which is in bright purple,
which Taylor probably loves. But theseare so weird. And then contrast that
to the g I. Joe figureswe got and they're sort of all over
the place because we have Falcon, who is just in military fatigues. He's
(25:22):
I believe Flint's nephew, Is thatright, I think a fair murder from
the movie. So we got Falconwho's in his in his you know,
regular fatigues. We've got gun whowho's in his marine dress blues. You
got out Back who's in kind ofa combination so we got fairly well and
and law and order who was anMP. He's dressed kind of like an
MP. So we've got these fairlyum I guess normal military garb for some
(25:45):
of these guys. And then youhave as we talked about, quick draw
or or or faster or fast backas as Taylor called him, straw fast
draw sneak peek um, psych outand crazy legs who are in and crazy
legs. I guess you could sayhe's in kind of a normal uniform.
(26:07):
It's just weird colors. But theseguys are in these really very very specialized
UM outfits, and so it's sortof like that. That's why I say
they were they were going up theramp. They hadn't quite jumped the shark
yet, because we don't have thatmany g I Joes in neon colors except
for psych out right. Yeah, there's like six. So you think,
(26:30):
okay, this could easily pass foran earlier line or easier earlier wave,
like easily, and then the restare like, WHOA, what what this
is? This GI Joe is?Did they make a mistake putting these figures
on these rights and tunnel rat?I think is kind of right, in
the middle because he's not wearing anygarish colors, but he's also not necessarily
in a uniform. Right, Butthat, but that goes very much in
(26:55):
line with a lot of the previouswaves, right exactly, you know what
I mean. And then when youtalk about the vehicle drivers, we had,
we had the vehicle drivers backstop, gyro Viper or is that euro Vipers?
He like sandwiches and the peple hardtopice Viper, Payload, Rumbler,
(27:22):
c slug steamroller worms and zanzibar Umand Zanzibar. I always think about a
Tenacious D song that I can't quoteon this show. Same here, same
here. I'm not going to cookit, but I'll order it from Zanzibar.
(27:42):
Yeah, that's right. That's aboutall you can say from that.
And they're all sort of they're allkind of a mix as well. We've
gotten you know again, the Cobrafigures are way out there, but then
the Joe figures are kind of amix of normal two I don't know if
(28:03):
this is military standard military issue righttoo psychedelic? Yeah, yeah, Well,
but then there's Cobra La but I'msure you'll get to that. Well,
let's talk about Cobra law right now, because we had we talked about
the last wave was where we gotserpentor and we didn't get Cobra lat until
this wave and we got we haveGlobulus, Nemesis Enforcer and who's the other
(28:27):
guy? Umy the Royal Guard andyeah, and I had these figures because
I you know, I think Ithink I did have those. I think
I got him like at a mallor something when I was a kid,
but I never left him. Globuluswas so weird because you couldn't store him
anywhere. Taylor, you love Cobra. Do you like these figures? Though?
(28:49):
I like the Royal Guard. Ithink the Royal Guard looks really cool.
Um. I was always confused.I so originally I came across these
carded figures way back the day,and I wanted to get it when I
was younger. But I was alwaysconfused because I always thought Globulus came with
another like half piece that was morelike a worm that would sit up and
(29:12):
not make him quite so tall orI guess unposable because his tail is kind
of a wire base, right,it kind of turns and bends. Am
I correct on that? Sure?Well, I thought that he had a
gray body portion like what he hasin the film, that you could like
(29:37):
move his upper body into. Andit seems like I remember seeing like some
sort of marketing picture that had that. So when I would see, you
know, the card out with Globulusand everyone on there, I would always
look and say, well, I'mgonna wait for the other one because I
want that one instead, And neverit never went out. I never realized
(30:00):
that the Royal Guard is a quotein case from head to foot in organic
insect toy armor. Yeah. Yes, and then we also had start right,
and we also had sergeant Slaughters. It just it's just the most Yeah,
I gotta rain on this parade realquick. Well it's not really raining
(30:22):
because everyone is has the raincoats up. But why, like, what in
the world these are just they stretched? There's no there's no zero amount of
realism in this at all. Howcould you possibly take your line seriously?
You know, can you imagine snakeguys fighting these things that are wrapped in
sect toy to armor? I haveI have so many things I want to
(30:48):
say, and yet I have nowords at the exact same time. Sorry,
I don't Plus I don't even rememberSergeant Slaughters are the gates. They
look like the three well, they'rethey're basically a counterpoint to to Zartan's Redknocks.
You had three figures. You hadMercer, Red Dog and Taurus,
And yeah, I don't remember themeither. I never saw them, never
saw them on shelves. I'm notfamiliar with them. They're in these brightly
(31:11):
colored outfits and they do they Theysort of remind me of the Dreadknots dread
Knocks. You didn't weigh in onCobra Lites whom you you? I don't
care for it. But my myexplanation for it, though, Dan is
the same explanation that I have forFearsome Flush being produced by Kenner in the
eighties. Cocaine is a hell ofa drug. No, seriously, I
(31:33):
mean honestly, it's it's like itthat that is the Cobra lot destroyed the
Gi Joe line from this point forward. In my estimation, I just I'll
never I'll never forgive them for that, because this was the greatest thing too
well. And I still love thefact that it's only called Cobra Law because
they put it in as a placeholderand Hasper said, no, that's good.
(31:56):
Let's good with that. Seriously,I didn't know we're calling it corbola
like Shangri la. And Hasbro waslike, Okay, well we're gonna go
with that. They're like, butno, that was just a place like
no, no, no, we'rein production. We're gonna we're going that
happened. It's thought the original namewas Laura. What isn't that the place?
(32:16):
Yes, that's a joke that nobodybut you gets, isn't it.
Maybe it's some lay up people thatget it. That's pretty clo Please explain
it to me and anybody else.Laura epsom is the type that you get
when you get a magazine layout andyou don't have anything for like captions or
(32:40):
blocks of letters. You put itactually will say lauram epsom, And that
means that you have to put inyour descriptors or your type there, so
it's like a placeholder for type.So it looks like typing. Don't websites
have that too? Like older websiteshad that too, And it looked like
it was last I'm gonna Taylor,I'm gonna say something to you now that
(33:01):
Listeners of the show a long timelisteners and show will know how monumental this
is. That is the nerdiest jokeyou ever made. And you know what
I've been saying something, there's onefriend that'll get it. Jordan, that
joke was for you. Oh yeah, no, I when I first had
my school website on back in twothousand and six, that was what came
(33:22):
up, and I had to dosome digging into what it actually meant.
I just haven't heard the term ina long time. Silent press. Yeah,
when one of our friends has thattattooed on his arm and when people,
yeah, people are asking, hegoes, I don't know. I'm
still thinking about it. Oh that'sgood. I to go those lengths for
(33:43):
a joke. I'm that's right upthere with that's right up there with buying,
buying a royal title or something.Uh, Scotland that you have a
title Lord seland no sea Land mineis legit. The established titles from Scotland
are fake, but sea Land islegit. So on a recent Facebook live,
someone brought you up and they referredto as Count Jess McGee and I
(34:07):
thought you, yes, it's happeningof yourself in this wave. True,
that's true, it would be better. So let's talk about a little bit
about the third version of Cober Commander. Um, and precisely my question to
you that two of you is,what the hell? Um? That's exactly
(34:31):
right, exactly it looks like atransformer. Yes, it's I mean,
the in and of itself, youknow, it's it's it's an interesting if
it was a you know, insteadof Cober Commander would be a really cool
figure. Well, you know, the story on this is that he likes
to be up with vipers and eels, which doesn't make any sense, but
(34:54):
he wears this to be completely protected. So why not do this for every
buddy? Because it's expensive. Iguess it's because they're too expensive even for
a multi billion dollar terrorist organization. So, I mean, this is obviously
just like a Super seventy's when theykeep releasing the same version of stuff with
(35:15):
like a little tiny accessory you're,like they do with separate Darth Vaders or
Chewbaccas or what have you. Ikind of I do like the the attempt.
It's something original while still maintaining sothe original uh menace slash silliness of
Cobra Commander. But it's certainly notsomething that is needed, if that makes
(35:35):
sense, right, Yeah? Iagree, Taylor. How do you how
do you feel about this one?I like the design. I think for
me, some of the color schemeof them just feels a little off.
I feel like instead of the brightblue, he should have been a darker
blue. Looks like something out ofCenturions, doesn't. Yeah, I think
it's because it's that that light blue. And you'll have to hear me out
on this, because it's like, think about Cobra. You think about red.
(35:58):
You if there's silver, you've gotsilver black and then this really dark,
deep navy blue with this bright blue, it does kind of set him
out of the wave and makes himlook more like an autobot or like a
Centurion. But I think if hewould have been in the darker navy,
I think that that might have tonedhim down a little bit, made him,
you know, feel like he's apart of Cobra again, Like he
(36:21):
just stands out a little too much. She's a little too bright fair,
But that's what a lot of thisthing is to this whole is very bright.
Yeah, wave line, what arewe saying? Are we were using
them as syne no Waiver series isgood. This is Wave six or Series
six. Yeah. Yeah, SoI won't say a whole lot about Chuckles
(36:43):
because I have a lot to sayabout him later on when we get to
our top five Shaker. But Iremember my friend Turtle, I was going
on and on about Chuckles. He'slike, well, Chuckles didn't all that
neat And that's when I thought,I don't know if we're going to be
friends forever. Like I went thought, um, but what do you guys
think about Chuckles? I love Chuckles. I think a lot of people didn't
(37:05):
like the fact that he only camewith a gun, and I likes a
shoulder holster. I go ahead toI really liked Chuckles. Um. I
think for me at the time whenum, when Chuckles came out, I
remember seeing a few of the comicsthat had Chuckles on the front, and
he was like being like tied upin a chair and like with Cobra people
(37:28):
like shouting in a space. Sohe was like a ci operative And I
always thought he was really really cool. But he was one I never could
find, like I never could findhim on card because that lady had him
right exact. Hawaiian I used tohave a Hawaiian shirt that looked almost just
(37:49):
like this as a kid, andit was like bright blue and it had
like the big flowers of except Ithink I had like green pink and then
a few of the yellow flowers, and so it didn't match him that way,
But I kind of I kind ofidentified with Chuckles. I thought he
would be really cool to have, but I never could find them. So
(38:12):
Chuckles for me is like um,when you're dating and and you're not really
quite sure if you want to takeit um too more serious or you just
want to break up because it justseems so crazy. Because I like the
idea, I understand he's sort oflike a tom Selicky concept. I remember
when he came out, I didn'tbuy him because I thought I just didn't
(38:34):
think it was military enough. Butthen in the lore there was like there
are multiple sort of versions of theGig comics, and this one is not
Larry Larry Homeddriven. There's an alternateuniverse of Gigel, and then it Chuckles
is the ultimate undercover spot. Heeventually ends Yeah, he eventually ends up
assassinating Cobra Commander, and he isunbelievably fascinating, compelling, and I'm going
(38:59):
to do a shameless name brop.Psychopolotis in advance. But Pablo Hidalgo and
I were at Rancho will Be oneone time and we spent like an hour
talking about Chuckles and it was avery very cool conversation. So I have
a lot of respect for what theytried to do with him post this figure.
I was gonna mention, I can'tremember the name of that series.
I don't think it was origins,um. I can't remember what it was,
(39:22):
but it was one of the idW books and it's been probably about
ten years ago now, but ifyou can find it, um, Well,
the one I'm thinking about this maybe a different, different storyline if
they They've done some great storylines withChuckles, especially after they started writing it
from a more adult perspective where beingundercover really did have consequences. Yeah,
(39:44):
yes, and it definitely didn't likeit wrecked his and it was no,
it was a realistic it was likeDonnie Brasco in uniform. It was Yeah,
that's a great Cobra was the serieswas back? That was one thousand
nine, Yeah, yes, thatwas it. So it has been more
than see to me. Two thousandand nine is I've just gotten to the
(40:07):
point where two thousand and nine wasten years ago, So don't don't shatter
my illusions because I know it wasactually fourteen years ago. I'm with you,
dude. To me, nineteen ninetyis still ten years ago. So
um, that's enough of that.So uh okay. So I won't say
much more about Chuckles other than thefact I'm glad you mentioned that, Dan,
because I had that in my notes. Um, so let's unless there
(40:29):
are any of the figures that youwant to touch on before we before we
move on. I did obviously.I actually I didn't want to talk about
the the Gung Ho in the DressBlues. Anybody have any idea what possessed
hasbro to do this when it's oneof my favorites, But I just thought
it was an odd choice. Ithink it's inspired from the comics. It
(40:50):
was one of the few things thatactually took Kid's que from the comics.
Is at least full dress because therewas a death in the ranks. Yeah,
yes, dress and that's where hecame from. M M yep and
again to have a distinguished concept andidea of a respected figure like Gung Ho
(41:10):
in the same wave or yeah asor in this yeah as techno viper with
bright rival. That's why there's crystalball this whole thing. Yea crystal ball.
We haven't even we haven't even mentionedpsych Out. I mean, are
you kidding me? He's like,is he from the Talking Well I know
(41:32):
that that's an insult to the talkingheads. Um, you're right. I
always thought that psych Out when Isaw him, always thought he was one
of the dreadnocks. But he's not. He's a Joe. Yeah I can
I can see that he's a joe. But yeah, I agree. He
sits at a table by himself.I'm pretty sure he just seems like wepe
he's you know, he's he sitsover there. He sits over there with
(41:57):
Scoop from the previous waves, thenewscast guy, because they're both communication officers,
so they hang out. Yes,yeah, well, and of course
I have to mention Law and Orderbecause he came with a dog, so
automatically he's he shoots to the topof my list because he comes with a
dog. I always loved the oneshe came with dogs. I really liked
Law and Order, especially like likethe idea of pairing him with the security
(42:22):
checkpoint. That was like one ofthose I always wanted to do. And
I have a law and order nowthat I'm trying to replace some parts on
well, let me rephrase, Ihave law, I'm looking for order,
which is kind of how my liferuns these days. Yes, absolutely,
that was deep. And then Ialso did when I say, did either
(42:45):
of you have sneat peak? Iknow I did either of you have sneat
peak? Use he came with oneof the things I like. He came
with this giant, bright green lookedlike a spotlight, but it was like
basically like a large telescope that hecould use to see around, like basically
like a portal portable periscope. It'sinteresting because they call it a tower and
(43:10):
it has a handle on it,like it is probably the size of him,
this giant periscope. Well, itis a tower. It's called a
tower. That's right. That's realismin his finest Yeah, yep, Okay,
(43:30):
So that's it for the figures,I think. So let's talk a
little bit about these vehicles. Umagain, I didn't have any of them,
but you know, we we wementioned the Cobra Mamba, which is
a helicopter looks a little bit likethe Dragonfly without the skids. But it's
uh, what, it's purple, right, yes, yeah, it would
(43:51):
be so cool if it wasn't purple. Why do you have a problem with
it being purple? This is youand you and Taylor are going to fight.
That's fine, um, because becausethat's not are you going to sneak
up on the Joe based is likethe elite of the elite of the elite
in a bright purple helicopter. Imean it's for the same reason I have
a problem that Batman has a sharkrepellent in the nineteen you know, sixties
(44:15):
TV show because it's just ridiculous.Well, I mean, but in the
defense of the TV show and theAdam Wants Batman, it was meant to
be ridiculous. Okay, So ifit's if it's camp, which is an
art form, is it supposed tobe camp, because then why do we
(44:35):
have dress blues to honor a fallensoldier with. I think that's where like
this line kind of fills said. It's it's you know, you've got the
realism aspect of the figures that arepresenting like realistic views of the world,
and then you've got areas of Cobrathat are done in bright colors, because
that's kind of where we were goingwith some of the toys at the time
(44:59):
where things started to kind of goa little bit crazier, and so I
think this was like Hasbro's thing of, you know, we've got to silly
it up a little bit in orderto keep you know, the kids interested
and wanting to go buy more, because it's like, you know, if
there's a young kid that's getting intothe jokes, let's say there's an older
kid that's been getting Joe's forever, but he's about or she's about to age
(45:22):
out of that range. Then Ithink this was Hasbro's way of saying,
Okay, kids right now are reallyinto space and sci fi and bright colors
because you know, they like NinjaTurtles and some of these other things are
coming out are really bright. We'regonna make half of this wave kind of
bright and over the top in ordernow to capture that audience, to bring
(45:44):
him over to our space instead ofgoing and getting it somewhere else with another
toy line. I like the explanation. Unfortunately it didn't work well, but
you were aging out at that point, don't you. Yeah, I was
yeah so so yeah, but Iwish the other ones would. I just
couldn't. I guess, in myin my limited brain, I just couldn't
(46:07):
make peace with them being from thesame thing. And I just you know,
and I guess maybe that's it,maybe and help me out of this
guy. Maybe that the completest inme, although I'm not really completest anymore.
Maybe that was why I struggled,Like, if I get these,
that means I had to get allof them. Well, I can't afford
that. I'll just get none ofthem. It makes perfect sense to me.
(46:27):
Yeah, but I don't know ifmaking sense to me is is the
uh he'll you want to I don'tknow if you want to use that as
you're as you're measuring rod measuring sticks. So my little test. So again,
once again, just like the figures, the Cobra vehicles are the ones
that are the weirdest. We havethe Mombo. We got the buzz Boar,
(46:49):
which it looks like the entity fromSouth Park, only it's got um
it's got razors on it, it'sgot blades on it. I hate that
many memories of this vehicle. Iloved it I thought it was so so
much fun. There's a Masters ofthe Universe vehicle similar to this, right,
(47:09):
Taylor, it's the Road Time Okay, yes, yes, yes,
on that side, right, yeah. Said. Then we had the memory
memories of this one, of courseyou do. And then we had the
We had the Cobra jet Pack, which again color scheme and it looks odd.
The Cobra Cobra Pogo Ballistic battle Ball, which I don't even know why.
(47:31):
We've got the trouble bubbles. Whydo we need a poco a pogo
ball? Oh? Because this onecould. I think it could go into
space as well well as it should. I mean, do you really think
that Gijo would have been scared ofcobra if this is what they were,
they're bringing up poo into the battle. And then there was the Cobras that
(47:51):
this one too, of course youdo. There was the Cobra, the
Cobra c Ray, which looks likesomething out of Batman, the Cobra Wolf,
which um is sort of off whitein color. It's cool, Yeah,
it's it's the outlier. This.I will admit this one because I
did have this and I thought itwas super cool. It's a snow vehicle.
(48:14):
It's got sleds, taint treads thatfold up missile rack and then it
actually has like you can either writeon it or launch them off as cruise
missiles. So to me, Ithought this one was like like the cornessential
from the from the collection for Cobra. I thought it was a really cool
(48:36):
and and like just great snow vehicle. And of course WOLF stood for well,
of course, yeah, Wolf stoodfor winter Operational white fighting vehicle.
So there you go, Yeah, the Cobra. Go ahead, Dan,
you talked about this, Okay,so before we talk about this, I
hate the word maggot. Um.I almost gagged and threw up a little
(48:59):
bit just saying it. That's oneof the concepts and the words that one
of the only concepts and words thatjust really skeeves me out and grosses me
out. So I'm gonna take myheadphones. The name of the drive,
I'm gonna I'm gonna take my headphonesout. You guys talk about it for
a minute, then I'm gonna comeback. Okay, the name of the
driver of the Cobra maggot is wormsand he's brown. He's yeah. So
(49:22):
I mean, honestly, what elseneeds to be said. Really, it's
interesting because the worms. The driverum like he has kind of like this
bus got this weird kind of likelike you know, totalitarian military vibe,
you know, with the the cross, you know bar and then the belt.
It reminds me of something of RamboForce of Freedom like it. It
(49:45):
kind of learned before those characters. But I remember there was this kid that
that I went to go visit orhis maybe my dad was doing a job
for his dad. And this kidhad the the Maggot vehicle and I remember
getting to play with it a littlebit, and at first I was like,
Ah, this thing stupid. Andthen I got to break it apart
(50:06):
and play with it, and Iremember I was like kind of shocked.
I was like, this thing isactually kind of cool, like the way
it separates into the parts and stations. I had a blast with this thing.
I thought it was interesting. Butwhy would they go with such a
disgusting name. I know that it'sit is an acronym, and I'm sure
(50:29):
it stands for some that same withworms. I know it's an acronym as
well. Um No, it doesn'tseem to well, it's weird. We've
probably given it more air tender.Yes, I think we are. It
is. I will say it's acool vehicle, but I that's all I'll
ever say about it because of thename. They lost me with the name
um and and that and then weso for for the Gijo vehicles, we
(50:54):
have the Coastal Defender, which Imentioned before. It's basically like it's it's
a trailer that you're riding. It'sa small trailer that gets pulled behind you
and then they just drop you offon the beach, I guess, and
you sit there and wait for peopleto come up the tilt the world.
It looks yeah, yeah, Idon't get it. We had the Crossfire,
which is yet another jeep sort ofvehicle. It looks like the Austriker
(51:19):
to me, How is it differentfrom the Austriker, Taylor, I think
this is the trend. It wasa remote control control yeah one, which
is pretty sweet. I didn't Ihad actually had an RC cars that looked
a lot like this when I wasa kid about around this time. It
was a combo with the RC radio. Okay, well that how cool.
That is cool. I will giveit that. That's cool. We had
(51:42):
the Persuader, which is a greatname for a vehicle, by the way,
for a little mini tank. Andhe came to backstop. That's Sargeant
Slaughter, isn't it. That's oneof his Uh well, no, I
think he drives that. Um.Yeah, yeah, he's got his own
little like the white tank. Yeah. Oh no, I thought yeah for
a second, I'm sorry, Ithought this was a part of the Slaughters
(52:06):
Marauders group, but it's not.Yeah, it sort of looks like that.
You just wanted to make a rhymeslage marauders. Of course he did.
Um the Dreadknocks, you know withthe head, the air Skiff and
the Dreadknock cycle. The air Skiffcame with Zanzibar, I do remember that,
and the Dreadknock cycle. I can'tremember who it came with, but
it looked very much like the uthe Dreadknock jeep that we had in the
(52:29):
last wave that I like so much. But then then we also had the
Slam Slam, which the Persuader andthe Slam both to me looked like something
from Waves one or two. Yes, I agree, although the Persuader is
just a little off what could beconceivable, But yes, it is more
(52:52):
in long align with that. It'sactually then the green yes, and the
darks and not these crazy na welland which is to say they're also just
sort of generic looking, which notnecessarily a bad thing, but just when
they just sort of get lost inthe shuffle when you're looking at everything else.
Um, the road toad is theone that always confused me. I
(53:12):
couldn't figure out what the deal waswith that. I guess it's just like
a trailer that gets towed behind something. It's a battlefield recovery vehicle, so
I guess you're supposed to go inand yeah, that's it's it's a tow
truck basically, yeah, yeah, with a big gun on it. Yeah,
(53:36):
I'm saying this one. This oneis you know, I had to
admit, though, it's kind ofcool because looking at the directions, is
it though? It is like think, think about it. Okay, you've
got let's say you've got um likeone of your tanks or one of your
vehicles. Let's say the awe striker'sbroken down and you've got to get it
(53:58):
in and you're in the middle ofbattle, but you need to get it
off the grounds. And so youcould hook it up and tow it off
and still fire your way out ofthe battle and get the awe striker out.
Yeah, that's really cool. That'swhy you have stayed farm exactly.
I think it's the idea is cool, but the execution of it just it
(54:20):
doesn't look worthy of GID. Ilike the idea, but it just it
can make it look a lot quickI think. I think what the aspect
of it that I like has saidit? It actually is in itself also
a tow a bowl, So it'slike it has it to where you can,
um, you can tow a vehicleand it can run on its own
(54:43):
for short ways. But then italso has a hitch up front. Looks
like you can also tow it tosomething else, so it can be like
an in between a meat like amedia type of vehicle. It can be
the middle portion of the g IJoe Centipede. Is that what you're saying?
I guess. Okay, Well thatbrings us to the two big big
(55:06):
guns in this line, the MobileCommand Center and the Defiant. So the
Defiant is a space shuttle that comeswith its own launching platform. It was
sort of one step down from theUSS Flag. I saw one of these
once in a Walmart in the toydepartment. Either of you ever see one
(55:27):
of these in the wild? WellDan did not, obviously, because he
doesn't remember it. No, Ibarely only. I only barely remember it,
And I don't know if it's becauseI actually remember it or I just
remember you guys talking about it sovividly. I've only seen it at a
vintage toy store, but that's it. Other than that, I've seen parts,
(55:49):
but I've never Like when I wasa kid, I never saw this,
Okay, I remember this was oneI would ask for like once.
I saw it every year first andyour parents just laughed at you, right,
yeah, they said, you wishwe you wish we love. Does
it bother you that the top portionof it just looks so fat? No?
(56:13):
No, no, Because I assumedthat if they had made it with
the normal specs of like a spaceshuttle, it would have either had to
be too big or too small. So by doing it this way, they
were able to keep it in scalewith the rest of the line. So
I didn't mind that as much.I thought it was a bold move.
(56:35):
Even at the time. I waslike, they're really going all in on
this, and I thought it lookedreally cool. It doesn't take up as
much space as the flag, butit was equally as expensive. I think
this thing, I think this thingran. It was over one hundred dollars
in eighty seven. Yeah, yeah, which nowadays will be that four hundred
bucks or something or something like that. I love the idea. I love
(56:59):
the idea of it that they wentfor it. I think it's cool.
I just don't I just don't haveany And it came with two figures,
two yep, which I really like. I mean, if I was going
to get an epic Giji, Ithink it would still be the flag.
But I think it's I think thisis a good idea. And I like
the fact that when you when youfolded everything down, it was a little
more compact, made it easier tostore. And I liked the way it
(57:19):
looked in that configuration M But thenwhen you when you set it all up
tick to launch, it looked evencooler. The mobile command center is the
one that I forget that it exists, because I have never seen this in
the wild, not when I wasa kid, not now, not ever.
What about you guys, My localVantage toy store has it is.
(57:43):
It is it as big as it'spretty big? Um, but it's not
as epic as you might think.Because I asked the owner and as it
is that gho, because I thought, is this in the wrong place?
He said yeah, and I said, okay, it just it doesn't again
it falls under my criteria, doesn'tlike a realistic thing that would be beneficial
in the art of war in ain a semi realistic fictional universe. But
(58:06):
I'm sure for some people it isan absolute treasure and God bless them.
You know. It reminds me,did did anyone have the hot wheel sets
that would like fold open to liketwo or three sets and had the little
legs that would kick down so youcould put the car in the top and
it would drive all the way downto the bottom of the set. No
this this no, but I know, but that is a good That is
(58:30):
a good. Well. I knowTarget did a vintage run off them of
those uh hot wheel sets recently, and I think this last year and I
remember thinking about it and like kindof going on. That reminds me of
the Mobile Command Center because I alwaysbecause like one of the sets. One
(58:50):
of my friends had a hot wheelset that was in that same plastic color,
and so when I would look atthis, all I could see was
that hot wheel set that would basicallyfull open almost like a toolbox, and
have legs that would kick down andyou would have like two or three levels
that would pop back on it.Well, it goes back to this,
Yeah, I think goes back towhat Dan was saying about this not seeming
(59:14):
like a Gi Jovi toy. Itseems more like, according to us,
seems we're like a hot Wheels toy. Yeah. Or I mean, in
this case, this one seems likeone of those where it's like day someone's
like, what can we do andsomeone said, well, here, let
me look at my toolbox and theyopen up this like tackle box and they're
like, oh, let's utilize thisand make three levels out of it.
(59:35):
And I mean, this has thesame like building and engineering premises as a
toolbox. Well, and I thoughtit was odd a couple of thoughts that
I have on this. I thoughtit was odd that they included it in
this wave because we already had theDefiant, and I think the the idea
of putting two huge playsets together inthe same wave seems odd to me.
(59:58):
It seems like people want to spacethem out. And also this seems like
something that we should have gotten wayearlier in the line because it is a
mobile command center. We should havegotten this instead of the headquarters that we
got in way. I think itwas Wave two or three that I had
that would split apart into three sections. This would have been a I think
would have been a much better playset. But the one, the one
(01:00:22):
thing it has going against it isthe figure that comes with it steamroller wearing
a vest with no shirt. Hecan't go into McDonald's, he can't go
to his laundry. How's he goingto live? He can't get anything done.
It just doesn't look fit either. He's what, Well, I'm not.
I'm not here to body shame dance, come on to Well, it's
(01:00:44):
the Gi Joe man. It supposedto be the elite of the true.
This is true. He's too swollfor his his vest and he can't go
into anywhere anyways because he's got grenadesall over him. Well, that's true.
He's just Yeah, he's just antisocial. I guess I would. I
would feel kind of weird, likedriving around without a shirt with grenades hanging
(01:01:05):
off of me, I would feeleither really tough. Well, yeah,
I try it. It's pretty cool. Actually I am in Texas that that
probably would be. Uh, that'strue, especially not in Denton where Taylor
lives. I see people like thisall the time walking around. You probably
do, actually, so all right, So so that's it for the line.
(01:01:27):
Like I said, we had.We we talked a little bit about
the Dreadknock vehicles, but you know, I there's not a whole lot else
to say there. I did likeZanzibar. We didn't really talk about it,
but I like that Zanzibar has ahas a ponytail. That was that
was pretty forward thinking on the Hebasically is a pirate. He's the pirate
Joe, and I figured Taylor wouldbe a big fan of him. And
(01:01:50):
he has actual cloth. Okay,so let's talk about it a little bit
because this is the only Joe figurethat had actual hair, right, because
his ponytail was actual hair, wasn'tit. Yes, Yeah, I'm surprised,
Taylor. Taylor, did you nothave this one? I did?
Oh yeah, okay, this wasthis is one of those I got it
as a gift from my uncle forChristmas, and so I was able um.
(01:02:15):
He got me the set that hadZanzibar and the air skift in it,
and I remember kind of like,at first, I was like I
don't get it, and then Istarted breaking it down in my head and
I'm like, oh, dude,he's he's a pirate. He's basically a
pirate. So I really really gotinto him. He has a hammer and
a spear and a handgun. Hisspear will actually like hook onto his air
(01:02:38):
skits along with his hammer, andhe can just you know, use his
handgun to fire people. But it'slike he's like a swamp pirate. Yeah,
that's exactly it. And his hairum is apparently very stable and we'll
only come out if you just reallyreally yank on it hard. So Taylor,
did he lose his hair? No? No, he still had his
(01:03:00):
hair up until the point that Iguess they got donated that. How they
did it was that they you know, made a little like uh loop or
not of hair they put in thefigure. But the head came in two
parts. So yeah, the toplayer that was glued down, So once
they inserted the hair, they justglued that top layer down and then it
(01:03:21):
was stuck forever. Wait, whichfigure is this zan Zanzibar. Oh,
I just okay, now I seewhat should mean. That's so weird.
It was bizarre. But I forgotabout that. So I'm glad I remember
so we could talk about it alittle bit because he was he was like
a he was like a swamp pirate. That's exactly. It's a good way
to put it, Taylor, Yep. Okay. So so we're gonna say,
(01:03:45):
we'll take a short break now,then we'll come back and we'll do
our top five list. And it'sfunny because you know, Taylor talked about
having to re redo his list becausewe weren't going to talk about the battle
Force two thousand and yet he's hadso many great things to say about so
many of these, and I'm wonderingif his his list was just like a
bunch of three way ties. It'sthe best, he said off Mike that
(01:04:08):
it's the best wave in the historyof his life, of any toy ever.
Of course he did, oh yeah, no, no, we'll do
Okay, well, we'll take abreak, we'll be right back, okay,
(01:04:36):
So our top five list. Beforewe do our top five I want
to say, does anybody have anythat they considered honorable mentions because I always
hate when you do top five listsand you do your honorable mentions right before
number one. You're basically slotting thosein ahead of everything that came before it.
Can I do honorable mentions after?Because if I give my honorable mentions,
you're gonna know what's not in mytop five. True, So I'm
(01:05:00):
gonna I'm gonna pass and say becauseI've got quite a few. Maybe that's
why people do honorable means. Okay, fine, you taught me you can
miss me, Dan, Okay,so since you're our guest, we will
let you go first. Give usyour your top five from this line,
you're your number five, okay,And I again, I want to apologize
if I'm rankling people and not accustomedto doing that. I I love g
(01:05:23):
I Joe so much. It's hardfor me that these didn't hit the sweet
spot for me. But if peoplelike them and it brings them joy,
then that makes me very happy. So I will start. This was a
very difficult list for me because overallin my top five, some of these
I didn't have. So I debated, is it fair for me to put
this on my top five? IfI don't have them, and then I
(01:05:43):
just said yes, because this isreally about, in your opinion, one
of the top fives from the line, and some of them in my top
five I don't even like, butI appreciate them. So my number five
is big Boa. The idea isa good idea. I think the name
is terrible, but I I likethe fact that and I don't know exactly
(01:06:09):
when punch Out my Tyson's punch Outvideo game came out, but this to
me echoes the popularity of that.I absolutely love and completely adore the boxing
gloves. I think they might beone of the coolest accessories and the history
of G I Joe. The colorscheme actually kind of works. This is
one of the few figures and assignit to me. I believe Cobra would
(01:06:29):
have and it could easily have madesense in nineteen eighty four as well as
nineteen eighty seven. But it's thoseboxing gloves. And I'm aware of how
absurd this whole thing is, butit's the boxing gloves that really put up
for the top for me, andit makes it my number five. Okay,
let's I can get behind that.That's good. That's a good,
good reason for it too cool.Yeah, all right, and I just
(01:06:51):
remembered one of mine. We haven'teven talked about you one of mine on
my list, and we'll talk aboutit than Taylor. What about you?
What's your number five? My numberfive is actually a vehicle, and I
tried to keep it my list towhat I actually owned. Um Mine number
five is the buzz Boar, whichI thought was I really really fun and
(01:07:13):
interesting vehicle that the whole premise ofit is that you lay inside this basically
a giant skill show. You goto town, just ripping up the ground
and troops in front of you.So um. I had a lot of
fun playing with this on the playgroundwhen I was a kid. All right.
It's kind of a pretty gunarly weapon. On the other side, it
(01:07:34):
wasn't a Nintendo game too, Isn'tthat fun? Yeah? Yeah? It
looks likehobic to sit in. Isn'tit like the cover art? Yeah?
Interest, that's a cool choice.I'll allow it. Very unique number.
(01:07:59):
My number five is the Mobile CommandCenter. It's on the list because it's
awesome, but I've never seen onein real life, and based on everything
you guys talked about with it,I just I feel like I wanted on
my list because I do like theway it looks and I love the concept,
But it would be higher if thedriver had a shirt, and if
I had ever actually seen one inperson. So I can't really speak to
(01:08:21):
exactly how cool it is without seeingone. So that's why it's only number
five on my list. Cool.I'm glad it came up, though,
and I'm assuming it will show upon Taylor's list. But we'll see,
we'll see. Damn, what aboutyour number four? Number four for me
is outback, all right, outback, outback looks kind of like Um,
he could be related to rock androll. He's the most Joe looking
(01:08:45):
I think of the entire line, besides Our, the entire way, besides
Falcon I don't I can't remember.I thought I wrote down that I have
him, but I can't remember ifI do or not. I know he's
got kind of a cult following himamong gi Joe stuff. Um, if
he would have been anywhere else,I would have thought, now, this
looks too much like rock and roll, But the fact that it somehow keeps
(01:09:10):
some sort of a consistency with theearlier action figures of that are from the
g I Joe team itself. Uh, And I try not to think about
Blueman onions when I see him becauseI just think he's kind. He's kind
of a cool idea and he's alittle more buff, I think than some
of the other Joe Yeah figures, which is kind of cool. So that's
(01:09:30):
why to show off his packs exactly. He reminds me of a ginger Chuck
Morris. Oh, that's a that'sa good call. That's a good call.
So I like the attempt at takingwhat had come before and mental popular
and kind of adding to it alittle bit. So he is my number
four. I'm really having a hardtime not ordering the six inch version of
(01:09:54):
him that was announced recently. Samesame here, same here. But I
also because he's not a my childhoodmemories too much. Well there you go,
Taylor, what about your number four? My number four is actually Joe.
It is fast draw this one,and I know it seems kind of
weird, but this one was oneof the figures that was given to me,
(01:10:15):
and they just they gave me thefigure and I ended up like going
through a lot of the parts thatthey had and finding the rest of them,
putting them together based on what Icould find from the card back.
But I liked the idea of himbeing like a mobile rocket launcher and having
you know, all the armor thatwould face out to the blasting of this
(01:10:40):
rocket launcher on one side of him, because the other side is all green,
like it's just like a basic likeflak suit. But I just I
like the look of this character.I think it's really cool. No,
that is a cool figure. He'sactually my arm He is my one of
my honorable mentions. So I'll justtalk about that there. Everything you said
(01:11:02):
is absolutely right. That's why he'son my honorable mentioned list. My number
four is the first of two tiesthat I will not apologize for on this
list because while I didn't love thisthis wave as a whole, the things
about it that I love are someof my favorite things from the entire Gi
Joe line. So my number fouris a tie between William the Refrigerator,
(01:11:23):
Perry and Law and Order. Andwe didn't talk about the fridge. This
was the as far as I remember, the only no m wasn't he in
the last wave too? Because Iremember talking about him before. Was he
okay? Good? So I don'tknow, let's let's Sarget Slaughter. Sergeant
(01:11:45):
Slaughter was in the last wave. You're right, maybe you mentioned the fridge,
but we didn't. Yeah, okay, yeah, go ahead, carry
on, my bad. He wasthe second uh Joe to be based on
a on a real per person.Uh And so I didn't have one.
He was only a mail away.I never got one until just a few
(01:12:06):
years ago. I got one atDFW Vintage Choys. Found him and he
was complete. Came with the littlefootball accessory that he comes with, and
it's a really good likeness of WilliamPerry. Yep, and uh, Dan,
I know you're, you know,a big Chicago Bears fan, so
I assume this one is one's kindof close to your heart as well.
(01:12:26):
So Matt as Surprisingly, I lovedthis this Bears team. I loved the
fridge. I love g I Joe, but I never got this one.
This was another symbol to me ofthem jumping the shark and you know,
and a plus I could never findhim anyway, well right, yeah,
because he was a mail away,so it's kind of hard to find him.
So he failed the purity test foryou when it came to exactly and
(01:12:49):
I'm and I'm ashamed of that,but I you know, it's all right,
that's all right, but but it'sit's a good liken to save HIMN
got the gap and his teeth andeverything. It's great and um law and
order. Of course I have tohave it on the list because he comes
with the dog, so he hasto be in the list. The design
of both the figure and the dogare great. And and again he used
(01:13:11):
to my rule that he can goout in public in the outfit that he's
wearing. So that is the firstof my two ties. My number three
is also a tie. I justkind of spoil that a little bit,
but I will not apologize. SoDan, we're your number three. I
always smile when you give ties whenyou guys do, because Corey is so
anti tie, we're never allowed todo them on par over. Well,
(01:13:33):
that's why you have to come overhere. We were a little more egalitarian,
if that's the right word or forgiving. My number three is law and
order, And next time I gottasay I didn't. He's based on a
Hasbro executive, which I didn't knowuntil I looked through the yo jie thing.
(01:13:56):
I remember that now, Yeah,do you really see? I barely
remember this one. I remember thinkinghe was like a poor man's mutton junkyard.
But I looked at him again todayand I don't have him, but
like you, I have very muchhave a soft spot for dogs. I
love dogs. And he looks again. He passes my purity test. He
looks like something that I would believewould be pre nineteen eighty seven. That
(01:14:18):
color kind of pushes it a littlebit, but not so much. And
I like his file card a lot, and I love the dog a lot.
So I thought it was cool andso cool that I put him all
the way at number three. NiceI can get behind that. Yeah,
Kylo, what about you? What'syour number three? My number three is
(01:14:39):
another vehicle, and it's one ofthe smaller vehicles, the Cobra Cobra Pogo
Ballistic battle ball. I A lotof people hate this vehicle. I happen
to like it a lot because itreminds me of like a little space pod.
And so at this point, forme, like I'd always put astro
(01:14:59):
vipe, we're in there and havehim, you know, shoot off and
do space things, because to me, that makes like a yeah spaceship,
Yeah, Doug, this one alot. This is actually one that I
have on my radar too to goand replace one day because I do like
it. If I ever see whenmy vintage store has a lot of stuff
like this, So if I receivewhen, I'll snake it for you.
Okay, thank you. Yeah itdoes. You know now that I look
(01:15:26):
at it, very much looks likesomething that would be in Superman two at
the beginning of Superman too, Sothat's kind of cool from that perspective.
Nice. Nice. Yeah. Right, So we three too when they're when
they those astronauts meet. Oh yeah, yeah from Planet Houston. Yes,
that's right exactly. So we're tomy number three and it's my my second
(01:15:50):
tie, second of two ties, and it is tunnel Rat and gung Ho
in uh the dress Blues, andI just I love the concept of them
green dress, gung Ho and itlooks really great, Like I for some
reason, the design of that hat, I thought they just really nailed that
hat, because I don't know why. It seems like that would be really
tough to recreate in plastic. AndI just, again, I love the
(01:16:14):
concept and I love the idea thatthese these guys do have these formal functions
to attend to and Tunnel Rat hasalways been one of my favorite characters because
the backstory is so cool that heknow was claustrophobic and he became a tunnel
Rat to sort of overcome that, and his design and accessories are really some
of my favorites from the line allover. And I love the fact that
(01:16:36):
they know they painted on his face, they painted the camouflage, the black
streaks on his face, and Ijust yeah, I loved everything about this
figure. Alpine, we talked aboutit in a previous way, if I
believe it was sort of the samething. I just love the accessories that
he came with, and and TunnelRat was always just one of the more
interesting designs for a figure, andespecially now that we know it was based
(01:16:58):
on Larry Hamma, all the morereason for him to be number three on
my list. So Gung Ho andTunnel Rat are my my tie from my
number three. Cool. So we'reup to your number two, Dan,
all Right. Number two is onethat I was I had everything written down
except for my number two. Icouldn't figure out what my number two would
(01:17:19):
be. And then I kept skimmingover this picture because I thought, no,
no chance. But I thought,no, I'm gonna look at everyone.
I'm gonna look at the card backs. I'm gonna look at the foul
cards because again, this is atricky list for me because I feel almost
feel under qualified to even weigh in. But you don't turn down an invitation
(01:17:40):
from from Jeff and Taylor, soobviously, but it's crazy legs. All
you gotta do is look at that. That foul card is insanely cool.
He's jumping out of his out ofan airplane or a jet or whatever,
and he just he just looks likehe almost looks like he's Asian at least
done this art, which I reallylike because it shows a little bit of
(01:18:02):
a diversity. While the reds arequite striking, and it doesn't seem like
the smartest thing in the world tojump out of an airplane wearing red,
especially if you're jumping into anime territory, because you're basically putting a pole line
on yourself. But the file cardis fantastic. They say his fingers,
he would have been the greatest organistin the world of his fingers hadn't been
(01:18:23):
too short. And then in thesecond paragraph there's these great descriptions that Larry
Howmum must have written about how hecomes duck in and we even through all
this with the weird light in hiseyes and humming his selection from Johan Sebastian
Bach. So what a great conceptor idea for a character. The accessories
are cool, and the fact thatyou know, of course the plastic wraps
(01:18:45):
around his legs so you can actuallyit doesn't come with a parachute, but
conceivably you could take a parachute fromanother figure and use it and it would
work well. Plus I like howthe his weapon goes in tucks inside there.
I just think that it's a niceone. If again, if it
wasn't for the bright coloration of thered, I think this could easily fall
under my criteria of pre nineteen eightyseven Gi Joe, right, and at
(01:19:11):
least the red is not Neon red. Right, But you're right, I
did, is it? Really? He's one of the gifts kind of got
overlooked. But I'm glad you mentionedhim because that is a very cool figure.
And if I'm looking at his face, I would guess he was either
um Native American or maybe UM Hawaiian. Perhaps well, I was thinking his
spacific Yeah, maybe I like PacificIslander yeah, I could see that as
(01:19:34):
well. Yeah, it's and Ilike that it's that he has some ethnicity.
But it's yes, it's not it'snot there. They're not playing to
it. No, on my screenthat I'm looking at on it's it's really
super hard for me to tell. It's yea, his real name is David
Thomas and he's from Fort Dodge,Iowa. So they haven't really gone the
(01:19:55):
Apache Chief route with this, rightright. So yeah, great, great
choice Dan. I'm we get totalk a little bit about crazy Legs.
Taylor. What about your number two? My number two is actually it's a
vehicle and figure combo. It isthe Cobra Wolf along with the Ice Piper.
I remember getting this because this wasone of the ones that I saved
(01:20:17):
up my money as a kid toget, and when I finally got at
home and put it together, Iwas like super super super stoked. And
that was around Christmas time, andso there was a chance that we might
get some like ice or snow thatyear, so I definitely wanted to take
it out. Of course, nothingever happened, but I remember just like
(01:20:39):
having a blast with this one. This one to me was a lot of
fun. I had a really nicekind of sci fi look, but still
felt very much as a workable vehicle. And then the two canopies lined up,
one past the other, they openedup kind of one into the other
a little bit, and it remindedme of the big jets that we used
(01:21:02):
to get that was called laser Forcefrom I think it was like gay toys,
and there were these plastic ships thatyou would find at like the Dollar
General. And yeah, Steve Chubbrought me one of those at celebration.
Yeah. Yeah, we talked aboutit on a on a previous show and
he found one and brought it tome at Celebration back in May. That's
(01:21:25):
awesome. Yeah, I had aton of those laser Force vehicles, so
this kind of played right into thosefor me. You got me to take
a different look at this thing, and it, I gotta say it,
looking through it, like the closeup images on yojo dot com, it's
pretty striking. It kind of remindsme of like a snowy version of the
Shark. Yeah, you know alittle bit of it. Yes, it's
(01:21:47):
pretty cool. And trying to thinkis really neat. I trying to think
of what it reminded me of andthat was it. At the shark.
Yeah, it has the tank trendscould fold up so it could just slide.
But you could also pop tink treadsdown and the two skis on the
side would pop out, and theyhad footpecks, so you could actually put
the figure on the skis and havethem just ski and battle. So if
(01:22:11):
you had an ice like another iceviper or snow viper, you could put
them on there as well. Thetorpedoes you could tuck the legs behind the
little fins and have them write itout. And there were I think pegs
on the back and on the sideas well, so you could carry like
a ton of troops on this thing. And if i'd like just known about
(01:22:32):
this toy, if I'd known aboutthis toy back then, I would have
had like three of these. Ithink I think you may have converted me,
Taylor, that this is pretty serious. You need to move to the
un because if you could convert meon knees, wow. Well. And
the other thing like the kind oflike the cherry on top for it was
in the front canopy. You openedit up so each canopy had their own
(01:22:56):
kind of set things. So onthe front canopy was the driver that had
the actual handles that were sculpted outthat you could put the figure's hand on,
and then it had like a littleviewscreen and on the back one was
a radar and gun room which hada little like targeting system sculpted down.
And so it's just like a nicething of like, hey, this is
the pilot and your copilot that's goingto defend you. And then the actual
(01:23:21):
the actual missile rack would fold downand kind of lock into place. Well,
it like folded down like it lockedinto place because you could move the
missiles forward to keep it from slidingopen. And then when you're ready,
you would slide the missiles back andyou could tilt the thing back and then
if you if you hit it theright way, you could kind of finger
(01:23:44):
flick thump these missiles out and firethem at a long distance. The only
problem with this, the only thingI don't like about this is effect that
it's a Cobra vehicle and at aJoe vehicle. Yeah, this should be
a Joe vehicle. Cobra shouldn't havethe better t This is the thing.
This thing is cool. That's verycool. Thing is very cool. It
is I'm surprised. It's only yournumber two. I can't wait to hear
(01:24:05):
what your number one is. Ibet I know it is number one is
I'll have to think my number twois out Back. So you know Dan
mentioned him before. He's one ofmy all time favorites. He reminds me.
I said this about rock and roll, but this character, even more
than rock and Roll, reminds meof Ace Hunter from Megaphorce because of the
(01:24:28):
headband and everything that he's got on, and his accessories are really cool.
He's get that big backpack and justget a really cool gun that comes with
him. He would be number oneif he didn't have that white T shirt
on. But I like that theywent to the trouble of printing Survival on
it to kind of let you knowwhere this guy is coming from. But
I don't know. The fact thathe's called out Back and he's got this
white T shirt it makes me thinkhe's not going to blend in as well
as he might want to. Buteverything else about this figure is so cool
(01:24:54):
that I don't even mind. Ijust love that ginormous backpack that he had,
And you know, Taylor said,he looks like a like a ginger
Chuck Norris, but I think he'seven cooler than that. So and and
like I said, I'm still I'mhaving a hard time not ordering that six
inch version of it, and Imay still have to because I do have
a couple of the six inch toysin my collection and this would be a
(01:25:16):
nice addition to it. Of GiJordist in general, G I Joe.
I have the the Ram cycle thatcame a breaker, and I have the
AARONSS cycle. They were gifted. They were both gifted to me and cycles
really cool. It is. Pamactually claimed that one as soon as it
came in. So we're down toour number ones. So and then we'll
(01:25:42):
have to do our one that gotaway. So Dan, tell us your
number one from this line that youloathe. So this is It's true the
lowercase cell. Taylor's actually helping toconvert me on a couple of concepts here.
And yeah, the fact that youhave something that I like is well,
Jeff makes me feel a little morevindicated, right, our liberal maybe
(01:26:03):
liberated small ill. So the onethat's my number one, this might be
history on talking toys with Taylor andJeff. My number one is a figure
I don't even like, but it'smy number one because I just, again,
I appreciate the attempt. I appreciatethe idea, and it is the
(01:26:26):
Cobra Commander Version three ball. Ididn't have it. I wouldn't buy it,
but I really like that they winfor it. The idea of him
in full armor that Destro builds forhim because he coward as he is,
he wants to be in combat, but he doesn't want to get hurt is
about as anti samurai as you couldpossibly get. It's it's the blasters kind
(01:26:50):
of neat even though it doesn't seemrealistic. The backpack is absurd, but
it just seems to kind of workfor what they're trying to do. And
I'm sure it made a lot ofkids really happy because Cobra Commander is just
is a great looking figure. Umit's certainly better than one that came out
(01:27:11):
in nineteen ninety one. So yeah, I don't really like it, but
I gotta put it my number onebecause I just appreciate what they went for
well, and that's that's something thatI always appreciate about about you. Dan.
We're kind of cut from the sameclow out there, and I can
I can appreciate something without liking it. There are lots of movies that I
get white people love them. Ijust don't care for him. Um yeah,
he's like Aaron Rodgers of g IJoe Figures. For me. I
(01:27:33):
don't like him. I definitely appreciatehow good he is. That's fair.
That's fair Aaron Rodgers and football playerfolks for those of you who who are
unaware. Um, so okay,well that's that's that's a reasonable number one.
Yeah, Taylor, what about you? What is your number one?
All right? So my number one, and this was one that Again,
(01:27:56):
everything that I've chosen on my listhas been one that I I have owned,
So this one was one that whenI was handed the box set,
first, I was like, whatin the world is this? It was
a Christmas s gift from my uncleand I finally when I put it together
it got stickers on it. Ireally just fell in love with this thing.
It is a figure in vehicle set. So I'll talk about the two
(01:28:20):
together, but it's Zanzibar and theDreadnought air Skiff. Oh. I was,
oh, okay, I love thebox art. That's that's the first
thing when I when I finally gotit all together, and I looked back
at the box art I would justI thought it was awesome. So I
grew up in kind of the swampyareas of Deep East Texas, piney woods,
(01:28:43):
kind of like out in the marshand pines, and so this figure
always kind of spoke to me asit was. But he's a pirate,
and I love pirates. And hehas his bright kind of awkwa blue air
skiff, which I always did.And he's got skull and crossbone stickers all
over this air skiff a few otherthings that I really enjoyed that they put
(01:29:08):
into this air skiff. So thefigure has a pistol, a hammer,
and a spear, but they madeit to where the air skiff would actually
house the hammer and the spear clippedinto the side of the vehicle and it
didn't get in the way of anything, so he could technically fly this thing
(01:29:29):
or drive it and still have apistol fire outside of everything, and not
have any loss of hands, likehe would still be able to pilot and
drive, which I thought was reallycool. The other thing is I love
the fact that and they didn't doit with all the vehicles, but They
did do the backpag so he's ableto peg into the vehicle so it doesn't
(01:29:50):
fall out, so's he holds toit really well. They had that free
flowing kind of fan on the back, so if you twist, it'll create
like the fan noise and it lookspretty cool. And then he's got missiles
and machine guns, and the partson it are are nice like the way
(01:30:11):
they designed the part scheme as faras the colors and where you put all
the decals. It's a cool, small shelved vehicle with figure that just it
kind of like defines the Dreadnoughts withoutoverdoing it. It's not in the normal
blue and like over the top redsand purples. It's a little more subtle,
(01:30:34):
more aquatic, which is kind ofwhat they need to go for.
So it feels more like it's somethingthat was designed for the water moccasins,
but still within the Dreadnought community. All right, I did not see that
coming. Well, folks, you'llhave to come back to you next week
(01:30:57):
to hear the one that got away, because we Taylor's gotten hyper verbal on
us, and uh we it appearswe're out of time, speers. We're
out of time and no. Soso my number one is chuckles. Moving
on. But everything that we've alreadyalready talked about. He has a Hawaiian
shirt, and he's in Ski City, so we can go anywhere. I
(01:31:19):
love the character. I love thedesign of the character. His hair.
He's got like a really weird, like a sort of a matinee like nineteen
fifties hairstyle, which I always kindof liked. And uh, the fact
that he's an undercover operative always Ithought it was cool. And the fact
I liked that he came with thatshoulder harness our holster that he that he
had. I thought that was reallycool and it worked fairly well. Could
(01:31:42):
have been better, but uh,you know, we've already talked a lot
about chuckles, so I won't saya whole lot more. Plus the fact
that it's now a Thursday morning andwe started this on Tuesday night. Um,
so I will cut that off there, yeah, right, so that
we can now talk about the onethat guy away Taylor in ten words or
(01:32:04):
less, slap that in mind thefirst last day and to tell us which
is the one that got away?Is my one that got away? Is
one that I'm ashamed that I don'thave, and it's the fridge. Not
only that I love getting stuff inthe mail, but I mean again,
the eighty five Bears. That ismy jam. Um. I must have
(01:32:27):
quite a jam collection. I usethat phrase more on this show than I
do anything. But you know,it's the fridge. It's I thought it
was like, it completely took meout of the realism of the idea of
the fridge. Besides, his firstyear and a half was in horrible shape.
So um, but it's cool thatthey made it as a Chicago Bear.
Was a g I Joe figure,so it should have been right up
(01:32:48):
my alley. So I should haveforced myself to get it. So that'll
be the one that got away.Do you think if they put him in
here's Chicago Bears uniform, it wouldhave been an easier self for you,
Oh my gosh. Yeah, butthen I would have struggled with the wait,
Gijo doesn't have right. I wassuch a dope. I mean I
probably still am who we kNN Butyeah, okay, so that's a good
(01:33:09):
that's a good choice. That's agood choice. Taylor. What about you?
What is your one that got away? Uh? The defiant? Okay,
I thought for sure, dude,I thought for sure that was going
to be your number one. Thatis also to put money on it.
That is also that is also myone that got away, and it literally
(01:33:30):
got away because I didn't see itonce in Walmart. It is ginormous and
awesome. When I was a kid, I swear when I saw this thing,
it was about half my height. And I was a tall kid.
I'm a tall adult. I wasa tall kid, so eighty seven,
I would have been probably almost fivefeet tall. This thing stands like two
two and a half feet tall whenit's well, when it's when it's in
(01:33:53):
that yeah, it's it's huge. The thing is huge. Um and if
you see one now and Taylor,I think I saw it at the same
toy store you were talking about, the same vintage store you were talking about.
The only problem with it is Taylor, correct me if I'm wrong on
this one. When you see itfolded up and everything, it looks really
cool. But the plastic looks alittle thick, so it looks a little
cheap somehow, I agree with that. That's what kind of put me off
(01:34:15):
from it. On the complex partof it. It does the shot the
blue portion, Yeah, the blueand some of the gray portion the actual
crank, some of that fills alittle, a little thick, but at
the same time I can understand why, because I mean, this thing is
heavy and the like the the actuallaunch complex is meant to house this heavy
(01:34:39):
placet. I mean it's a playsetwithin a playset and a vehicle exactly exactly.
So that's it. Okay, folks, Well we've been Dan. I
want to thank you for joining ustonight on on Into the Morning. Where
can folks find you if they wantto reach out to you, either via
social media or I want to listento more of your dulcet tunes on your
(01:35:01):
podcast. Well, thank you guysagain for I think it was actually kind
of therapeutic to review it. Thisline through the two of you and your
expertise and your personality and your friendshipalways rings true and your listeners definitely enjoy
that. So I'm really honored tobe a part of your show. And
if you ever want to talk aboutthe Super seven gi Jo line or the
(01:35:24):
power of the Four Stars figures, you know where to find me. I
would love to talk about this,so by you can find me on coffee
with Kenobi twice a week, sometimesa little bit more depending on what interviews
I have going on. You canfind my writings on Star Wars dot com,
and I've written a few books forLucasfilm that are on Amazon dot com
as well, the Star Wars BookstarsCharacter and Cyclopedia and Star Wars I Am
(01:35:46):
Your Father. Plus I have aPatreon page as well, the CWK A
lots. Yeah, Dan and Ihad a comedy of errors at Star Wars
celebration when I was trying to getone of my books signed that he had
written the one time I had thebook, I didn't have my bag which
had my pins in it, sowe had to go. We finally had
to go to like this gift shopin the hotel and he signed it with
(01:36:08):
a marks a Lot marker. Yes, it was awful. It was hilarious
as I thought they can. ButI still was able to sign Jeff's chest.
We could get that tattooed, sothat was nice. Yes, yeah,
working on that so okay, andTaylor, if people want to check
out your art, where can Igo? We haven't talked about that in
a while. I don't even knowanymore, Uh, probably just Instagram at
(01:36:31):
this point. I haven't really postedanything to the side, so instead of
posting his YouTube channel, yeah,YouTube and Instagram and it's a Tay ray
Gun and my channel, like youjust searched my name and it'll show up.
Um. Yeah, but I dotory views there and I'm trying to
get some of the cosplay tutorials everyonce a while over on the YouTube channel
(01:36:54):
as well, based on some ofthe toy stuff that I do. So
and it's a good channel. It'sa good channel, all right, And
okay, well that will do itfor this episode. So for talking toys
with Taylor and Jeff, I'm Taylor, I'm Jeff, and I'm Dan.
And remember they're not dogs. They'reaction figures, really good action figures,
(01:37:17):
exact with Scorpion Tales. For somereason. Ye here my dog sneezing in
the background, So I'll say goodmorning, folks, thank you for listening.
