(00:15):
Welcome to Talking Toys with Taylor andJeff, where we go back in time
to discuss our favorite toys, onetoy line at a time. Oh,
and welcome to Talking Toys with Taylorand Jeff. Action Figure Exclusive. I'm

(00:37):
Taylor and I'm Jeff, and we'rehere to talk about another from the two
thousand X Masters of the Universe line. We're going to talk about Evil Lynn
and we well, that's the thing. We talked about this when we did
the original version of the figure. It never dawned on me that it was
a play on Evelyn. When Iwas a kid, I was like,
evil Lynn. I don't I don'tget it, even saying it out loud,

(01:00):
and then I heard somebody else sayevil n. I was like,
oh, I get it. Soprobably twenty years ago maybe I figured it
out. There's there's you know,it's one of those things that with the
art of the Master's Universe, Ikind of want to go back and look
to see if that might have beenlike one of the the creator's wives or

(01:21):
something you don't find out, likewhy evil Lynn. You know, I've
always kind of wondered if that waskind of a stab at someone that they
knew right now. I think theywere just trying to be I think they
was trying to be cute. Yeah. So, uh, like the rest
of the figures we talked about inthis line, this one was sculpted by

(01:41):
the Four Horsemen, and it's basedon the original version, but it's a
little more, a little more detailed. I think this time. Do you
do you have one of these?I don't, So this is one of
those figures that you know, Inever actually came across it. The distribution
that I know of was very verylight, and so there weren't like a
lot of these that have been foundout in the world, Like I haven't

(02:04):
even found these in resell when Iwent online to look. They're ranging from,
you know, on card, aboutone hundred and fifty or more.
Some that were like seventy five withcards were drastically bent, and most of
the figures loose range from about thirtyfive to seventy dollars. So this hasn't
been one that I've found and actuallybeen able to put in the collection just

(02:25):
because you either get out bid orthey're just out of the price range.
Okay, yeah, that makes sense. I'm sure they're they're probably pretty in
demand. Yeah, and I thinkas as it gets further away from that
two thousand to release the price here, a lot of these have started to

(02:46):
become right, yeah, yeah,it makes sense. So this one is
not as colorful as the one thatwe got in the original line, correct,
is the original one? She hadyellow skin and her armor was sort
of the same color as Skeletor's,right, Yeah, So when we originally
looked at Evil in, she wasyellow skin and she had blue with a

(03:09):
light kind of baby blue accents toher. So it was basically the same
mold as Tila with a new head. And this time they've taken a lot
of the aspects of the kind ofthe Tila motif, but then they kind
of turned it on its edge andmade it, you know, dark and
sinister. So a lot of theadditions that we're getting are like little skull

(03:34):
and bone pieces that kind of relateback to Skeletor and also relate to another
character that's in this series that wenever got to figure out until Classics called
the faceless one, which is typicallyher father. Oh wow, yeah,
okay, and they're they're like darkmagicians. The redesign of her I thought
was outstanding because again taking like thatthat base bridge. Before you know,

(03:59):
they had the ram kind of circlesfor the breastplate and the leaf motif on
the actual growing area, and nowthey've skirted her out. They've given her
like stacked leather that have almost kindof metallic cans holding on to the leathern
front. And then for the bodicein the breastplate that's actually like boned fingers

(04:27):
that wrap up and around her chest, along with a kind of a popped
collar that gives her more of asinister, dark villainesque look. And the
whole look is fantastic because you cankind of pair her two teelt and see
a lot of the resemblance, butthen also see the major change in the

(04:47):
two and you can definitely kind ofindicate who's good and who's bad just based
on the attire. Yeah, thisone definitely puts the evil in evil in
Yes, if I can make thathorrible a horrible joke. And again they
it's it's not as colorful, it'sa little more, a little more subdued,

(05:10):
not necessarily subdued, but just notas not as bright. It's it's
a little more, it's dull. It's darker and dull. So whereas a
lot of the colors before have beenbright, they've taken this kind of those
same colors and tone them down oreven um shaded them down a bit to
make them darker. And it works, it does, it does. So

(05:35):
let's let's talk a little bit thenabout Let's start with that head sculp.
Now, talk to me a littlebit about Obviously, the headpiece is not
removable, correct, right, Yeah, the headpiece is a non removable piece.
And I you know, I don'tthink we ever got into any head
swaps or anything until much later andmore the collector market. But this is

(06:00):
one of those where I believe theywere looking originally at maybe making it where
the headpiece came off, because inthe cartoon we do get to see evil
Inn without the headdress a few times, right, But you can't take this
one off, right, cannot takeit, Okay, And it's it's hard

(06:23):
to tell. The photos I'm lookingat her not great, So you'll have
to help me out here. It'sthe whole thing is silver that goes and
does it? Is it like?Is it basically like a tr that you're
sitting at the very top of herhead? No? So how it works
is she's got kind of a skullcap, and the skull cap is what
creates her widow peak, and thenit comes down over her ears and along

(06:46):
the back of her head. Andso you've got this kind of skull cap
that sits on her head along witha purple band, and the purple band
goes along the front and it's holdinga kind of web metallic crown that's made
out of silver with kind of ametallic bird skull on the front, and
all of that's being held by thispurple band that is basically adhered to this

(07:11):
headpiece. Okay, I'll tell youwho you want. She reminds me of
Maleficent from Sleeping Beauty very much. That's I think that that's got to be
who this is sort of modeled on, I would have to think, because
even her skin tone is the same, sort of that almost green skin tone.
Yeah, it's very, very verylight. It's a it's kind of
got on this version. It hasa bit more of a grayish kind of

(07:39):
natural flesh tone to it, soin a way, it's almost like decay,
but it's not quite there. It'svery um it's very malnutrition from vitamin
C let's just say that almost jaundice. Yes, you would say she has
not seen the sunlight of a longtime. And uh, and you're right.

(08:03):
And so that widow's peak, likeyou said, is a skull cap
that you that you were talking about, and um, the back of her
head, it looks to be it'sit's smooth. We don't really have a
lot of texturing here, right, but the way it falls down, it
almost looks like a helmet. Itlooks like it's rigid around the edges down
at the back of her neck.Yeah, but it's not supposed to be,

(08:26):
right, I think it is.It's um from the cartoon from what
I remember when she takes up,Yeah, it is like a helm.
So like when I say skull cap, it's like a more like a helm,
like a smooth metal guy Okay, goes over and then it's painted black,
so it is like where it comesdown that kind of points a little
bit to a ridge on the back. All of that, including the crown

(08:50):
and the purple all that would probablybe made of like metal or something that
is actually like a helmet. Gotit. Okay, So that explains why
it's kind of smooth. And Ilike the purple ridge that we've got on
the dead headpiece as well. Yeah, and what what am I looking at
with this design on the headpiece? And you may have mentioned this, but

(09:11):
is that like a little bit it'ssupposed to be like a little bird skull
in the very center. Yeah,so it's like a it looks like a
bird skull, and then it comesup and you've got like five spikes where
the center spike is along us ithas a couple of rings to it the
others or just like one ringed spikes, and then it's almost like webbed with

(09:31):
extra webbing inside, so it's almostlike set like if it would be a
like a thick armored piece that resemblesthat of a spider. Okay, got
it? Got it? And thenwe mentioned her skin. The face sculpt
on this thing is is fairly simple, but the paint app on it is
amazing. She's got the like thepainted on eyebrows, her eyes, her

(09:54):
eyes, and her lips are justamazing to me. Yea, because you've
got you've got no as I cantell, no overspray, no overpainting or
anything on her lips, which arevery bright red. And then her eyes
which again she get those malificent eyes. This had to have been done by
hand, right, There's no waythey could have airbrushed this. Probably,
yeah, And I think a lotof these at this point, like I
mean a lot of toys usually arepainted by hand, but something like this,

(10:18):
it was they probably had their theirbest painters on the line for the
faces. Because if you look evenon the eyes, you've got the white
of the eyes, you've got theblack of the irises and the pupils.
But then you've got a well donelike like eyeliner into two sets of eyelashes

(10:43):
painted out on each eye. Imean, they're beautifully done. And it
probably has more paint application as faras the face, as far as like
the creation of the the eyeliner andeverything than the Teela figure does. I
think so, probably more than mostof these that we've seen so far,
I would imagine, I mean, just thinking about the headpiece itself. So

(11:05):
it's casted in skin tone, andyou've got silver, purple, this kind
of matted black. You've got ashiny black white, and then this maroon.
I mean, already you're looking atsix paint apps on one head.
There's six colors running on this onehead and that's kind of unheard of sometimes

(11:28):
ridiculous, especially again for a massproduced figure. You know, if this
is like a boutique where they madeyou know, five hundred or a thousand,
it's one thing. But you knowthey're they're making a ton of these
things. So they've hidden the scenefrom her neck going into her body with
this like choker collar that she's goton that goes into this pop collar,

(11:50):
which I really like. It's hardto tell if there's any kind of design
on it, though it's I wastrying to on a really good picture of
that. It's hard to tell. It's very hard to tell. The one
I'm looking at does not have acollar on it, so I actually think

(12:11):
that that might be something that isthat's removable. I'm guessing that is something
that can be removed off of thefigure. Oh wow, so looking because
I have an eBay listing that's theone I'm looking at right now and doesn't
have any accessories, but the figureskind of all together, but this one

(12:33):
does not have a collar on it, which tells me that that's a removable
piece, which is pretty cool.Yeah, yeah, it is very definitely
definitely cool. All right. Then, coming down from there, it's like
about her her Torso this is wherethe figure I think really shines because we've
got this almost a heart shaped collarcoming that comes down like a plunging v

(12:56):
neckline with that the lighter purple ontop of the darker purple leather yep.
And then there's like a bodice thatgoes over her chest that isn't even lighter
colored, almost like a lavender thathas the skull and the three things hanging
down almost looks like a Native Americansomething or other to me. Yeah,

(13:18):
So looking at it, there's thatskull in the center, and underneath there's
kind of a repeat of the motiffrom her crown, but done very suddenly
underneath the skull, and then outof that you've got three bony fingers that
emerge from the bottom out heading towardsthe stomach and then wrapped around each breast

(13:41):
on the breastplate. You actually haveit's kind of almost like a bird bone,
where it's like a bird finger thatcomes up in wraps and then almost
like a wrap of wing that goesaround each side, both top and bottom.
And then from there it's got youknow, flitched pieces that fall off
on the ends. It's it's avery cool piece. It It reminds me

(14:05):
like when I look at it,I see like leather work within the black.
I see some of the leather workwithin the purple and the collar.
But when I get down to thispiece, it makes me think of either
hardened leather or some sort of likemetal plating, because there are some rivets
and stuff that run along the stomachportion of the plate as it goes down.

(14:26):
Well, and on the back we'vegot we've got, you know,
the same spot on the back we'vegot it's it's all the same color.
So it's all that like that hardenedleather like you mentioned, but we've got
a lot of detail on that. We've got some rivets it looks like in
there, and some distressing that's goingon. Yep. And then you know,
going down around like her over herher rear, I guess you would
say. Or but we've got adesign in there as well. Ye that

(14:50):
sort of mimics what we had inthe front. Yeah, And then that
and then the skirt comes all theway down and it is like freight at
the bottom, which is really cool. I just wanted to make and that
before we get go back to thefront, Yeah, because that's obviously where
we'll spend most of our time.I love like the way that it's it's
torn and ripped towards the bottom tomake it look like it's been used and

(15:11):
abused and destroyed. Kind of givesit, you know, that evil flare
that just makes her look like justsuch a b a, you know,
as she continues on. And Ilove the extra like kind of this figure
is riddled with what I call likesharp points, and sharp points indicate normally

(15:33):
something that's dangerous. So that's dangerous, some sort of villain. Most of
the time when you're looking at designand character design, and you have a
lot of really sharp edges built eitherinto the armor or built into like their
weapons, sad or even the facialfeatures. Most of the time you're dealing
with a villain and they have notcut anything shy of a multitude of sharp

(16:00):
edges and points built into every seamand fabric within this armor and costume.
And it just again eludes completely toher being an absolute villain. Absolutely.
Yeah, No, you're very verytrue, very true. Well, and
and coming down from there, youknow, we talked a little bit about,

(16:22):
you know, the crossing her chest, but then going down there,
like you were talking about her stomach, that that that design there, But
below that we've got this like silverportion that looks like the helmet that like
the Witch King of Agnor war inthe Lord of the Rings in Return of
the King. Yeah, it's whatit reminds me of. Um. Is
this representing something or is this justsomething to make her look even more intimidating.

(16:45):
I think it's just something to makeher look more intimidating. Um in
the in the comics where they hadher redesign everything, it's very much just
kind of a metal plate and thenit comes down it holds leather, so
it's it's just kind of a designand that that makes her look intimidating.
One thing I did want to touchon where the plate is up along the

(17:08):
sides and heading towards the back. She has a feature in the sculpting that
ties her back to Skeletor. Youknow how Skeletor has the big long pieces
of leather that hang down that hasus stud on each end and they're cutting
long strips that are tapered at thevery end along each side. She has

(17:32):
that same sort of design. Asmall pieces of leather that mimic the front
of skeletors, growing like loin clotharmor. And I love it because it
is a nice subtle tie back toskeletor cool. Yeah, that's very cool.
Yeah, again shows that they're puttinga lot of thought into this,

(17:55):
into this design. And again, this is a mass produced toy. Yeah,
it's it's wild. It's definitely oneof those where like you look at
these figures and you can see thethe love that the four horsemen had for
what they were doing. Yes,So before we move on down below,

(18:17):
let's talk about her arms real quick. Her arms are are very small,
they're wiry, uh, and theywere not able to hide the seams on
those because she's got bare upper arms. But she's got gauntlets on each of
her biceps, which is odd.And those look like they're kind of studded.
Yeah, they have kind of ait's like a swirl design of little
studs in it, and it's it'snot an uncommon thing. Tela has the

(18:40):
same thing on her arms, right, and it's just kind of it's also
representative of the vintage figure which alsohad them. Right, and then going
down she's got these you know, these like pretty gnarly. I guess their
fingerless gloves or are they just gauntletsof around her wrist. They're just bracers
on her wrist sprinsters. But they'vegot a really again the same kind of

(19:03):
really cool design on those that Ireally did. And so then her legs
much the same. They're you know, very they're slender, but you know,
toned. But then her boots areamazing. She's got these kneepads on
her boots that again have that samesort of design, like we saw it
from the top of her head downhere near the bottom. And then underneath

(19:23):
that, like the the part ofher boots that goes over her calves,
it looked like they're ridged. Whatwhat's going on there? Are they spiked?
So there's there's a couple of things. Um, the boots themselves are
their boots that probably go up aboutmid shin and then they they fold down
and they have you know, leatherwork that kind of folds down almost like

(19:47):
old style pirate boots. But thebig difference, and it's very similar to
what Tila had, but the bigdifference is that there are spiked ribbed shin
guards that go one goes over theone goes into the boot, So the
left one goes over, the rightone goes into the boot, and they're
just ribbed like shin guards that protectyour shins. Then on top there's a

(20:11):
metal plating that has rivets and thisevil skull that's built into the design,
and it's almost shaped like a policeshield, right, but it turns out
cuffs the knees and it is likebuilt into the shin guards itself. But
it's just so gnarly and kind ofyou know. Mean, what I find

(20:36):
interesting about the skull design on thisis instead of there being like long like
or like teeth designs in it,the tooth portion of the skull breaks down
almost like a bird, but ithas a nose built in the top,
like if it's just a skull.Yeah, that's wild, that's really wild.

(20:57):
That's very cool. And then ofcourse down at the bottom, I
guess they're supposed to be leather boots. Yeah, yeah, there's a really
nice texture there, a lot ofgood work going on there. So let's
talk about her accessories. Now,she's got a she's got a dagger that's
curved that looks pretty scary looking becauseit's uneven. First of all, it

(21:22):
looks like it was just hammered outof something recently, right, and I
think, I think what it is, it's got that same sort of it
looks like a spider web on itis what it is what I'm looking at.
Yeah, it's got it looks likea riveted piece that holds the blade
in place, but it is curvedoff like a spider web. It reminds
me of the a little bit ofthe sacrificial night that the priests us on

(21:47):
the Beastman movie. I think youhad like this gnarly dagger that had like
a skull on the cap of it, and that's what it reminds me of.
It's very kind of evil, lesslike sacrificial and away it looks like
a knife that you know, anevil sorceress, so would you use.
So it definitely plays a part andlends back into the design of her armor.

(22:11):
Yeah, it does. It's it'sit's very cool. And again it
all looks like it's of a piecebecause it's just the silver on it matches
the silver in her her headpiece evenyea, at least it looks like it
does to me. Yeah, andthen she's got the staff. This is
this is like the one that shecame with. The originally came with it
came with the staff with a crystalball on top of it. This one

(22:32):
is supposed to be the same staff, but it's just much much scarier looking
because she's got You've got the longblack staff and then on top of that
is sitting the silver looks like atalent of a bird with this big purple
ball sitting in it. What remindsme what is the purpose of this?
It's a spellcaster staff. So theoriginal Evil Lyn had it was all blue

(22:55):
sky blue, and it was itwas smaller, it looked more like a
club. So this time they've tradedthe club for staff. But it's you
know, when you like so backwhen I was in high school, I
was really big into dragons and wizards, And did you ever get like a
pendant that was like a little dragonclaw that came down and held like a

(23:17):
marble? No, I wasn't anerd jerk. Okay, well I was,
and I had some really incredible puzzlesthat I put together. Anyways,
So you know, you would havethese like talents that came down and they
would have like three or four calls. They would hold a marble and so
basically it reminds me of like thoselittle necklaces, and it's kind of like

(23:41):
kind of like the necklace from likewas it a dragon slayer that the old
man used, except instead of insteadof a ball, they just had a
crystal but it was still held onby these little talents. So that's kind
of the same principle they're using, like old school kind of fantasy lore of

(24:03):
like a metallic talent holding your crystalball here, and this crystal ball is
kind of like what helps her channelher magic. Okay, got it,
So it is it's kind of agood it's crystal ball basically. Yeah,
really, really, I feel likeI gave myself off a little too much.
No, no, Taylor, weall know you were a nerd.

(24:26):
You were even you You've always beena nerd. You're still a nerd.
I was a nerd too. Ijust wasn't a dragon nerd. I was
a theater nerd. I was amovie nerd, music nerd. I was
not a Dungeons and Dragons type nerd. But but we are, we are
one and the same. Okay.So that's it for the figure. So
let's talk about a couple of things. So what is your favorite feature about

(24:47):
this toy? You know, umwhat this one? We didn't talk about
the action feature on this figure.M oh, I didn't even know there
was one, So please tell meabout the action features. It's at spring
loaded Waste, which I think isjust an excellent action feature. I think
it works really well, the waythat they've been able to include the action

(25:07):
feature and continue with like superb sculpting, Like I really like the bodice,
like the mid section so down fromthe hips into the bodice. Like the
way that they've redesigned that and kepteverything moving I think is beautiful in that
level of sculpting. That's probably someof my favorite sculpting work that they've done

(25:30):
on like a female in this line. Okay, yeah, that's cool for
me. It's it's that face. The paint app on the face. I
think it's I think it's awesome. It looks amazing, Like you talked about,
we've got, you know, moremore paint on this one than we've
had on some figures in total,so I think that's really cool and it

(25:52):
just looks amazing. And again shedoes she looks like Maleficent, And I
have to think that that was sortof they were thinking of that in the
design as well. Yeah, soI just yeah, I love the paint
on the face. I just yeah. I could go on, but I
don't really need to because that's that'sit. So what is your least favorite
feature about this toy? So thisone okay, because I own the Tila

(26:18):
and I understand like they used alot of Tila and retooled it. One
of the problems I had with Tilais the way that the legs are shaped.
They sway off for this action pose, which looks really cool. However,
it makes it incredibly hard for thefigure to stand and to stand correct.

(26:41):
I was gonna ask about that becauseevery picture I've seen she's in kind
of the same pose. Yes,and she has supposed that way. And
I don't know if Eva Lynn hasthe same ordeal that Tila does. Was
staying on a shelf or if itbumps, you know, my Tela usually
falls over. The leg pose isa little harsh for me. I'm not
a big fan of that. I'dlike to see something that was a little

(27:03):
bit different that wasn't in this pose. I don't like that post at all.
I'm with you on that, uh, and knowing that she does look
a little top heavy with that, with that headpiece and everything, So it
would be nice if they if theyhad had given her, you know,
some sort of counterweight right in herboots or something to to make that not

(27:26):
be the case. So I'm goingto say the same thing. So we're
going to agree there. What doyou think best exemplifies the line with this
toy? You know, kind ofwhat we were talking about, what the
Four Horsemen were doing with that modernizationand kind of keeping you know, a
a nice look on the vintage. She definitely has that vintage look with really

(27:52):
good and well thought out adaptations andlike kind of an upgraded modernistic look about
her armor and color scheme and everything. And what I like what they've done
and what I think that the FourHorsemen have done for this particular line.
They've taken this concept and get givenus a more realistic look to the absolute

(28:15):
fantasy of this world, and sheI think really exemplifies that. Like it,
I can see that area fantasy ina more modern take, Like I
could see people cause playing as thisand not having a difficult time making it
because it seems to be set morein reality. Okay, yeah, I

(28:41):
can see that. For me,it really is what you just said.
It said that updating of the figure, because it still looks like I don't
know how they did this where it'sstill you know exactly who it is because
you're familiar with the original line, but it's so much more advanced and so
much more ornately designed but not overdesignedright that it really just it really just

(29:06):
impresses me a lot. So that'sthat's it's kind of the same thing for
me. It's just that it's theperfect updating of this figure. Ye,
So is this toy cool? Yes? Yes, absolutely? Yeah, this
is this you know, in lookingat this, this may be my favorite
of the two thousand X figures we'vediscussed so far. It's definitely, and

(29:29):
I said that a few times, this is definitely gonna be this, This
would be in my top five.So definitely, this is one of those
that I have been, you know, trying to get a hold up for
a while because like, I reallywant to see her next to Skeletor,
and like you know, and youknow, I want to make sure I
try to I'm wanting to get onethat's complete, but I really like to

(29:49):
see them together as a pair, because you know, they look so cool
in the cartoon together, and Ithink on the toy shelf they would command
that presence because of their design, because both of them are designed beautifully well
and have a very nice like darkand evil m A tourists look about them

(30:10):
that it's like I would really wantto see them on the shelf. So
this is definitely one. I thinkit's really really cool. I agree completely.
So there you haven't folks, we'dlove to hear your thoughts on the
Four Horsemen's version of Evil in andif you have one, we'd love to
see it in your collection, especiallyif you've got one with skeletor. Taylor

(30:32):
wants to see them together. Yes, so head to the Facebook page and
we'll let us know what you thinkand share those pictures with us. Until
next time. For Talking Toys ofTaylor and Jeff Action figure exclusive, I'm
Taylor and I'm Jeff. I Rememberthey're not dolls, they're action figures,
action figures, really cool, headdresses, very cool, get dangerous, can
