(00:15):
Welcome to Talking Toys with Taylor andJeff, where we go back in time
to discuss our favorite toys, onetoy line at a time. Hello,
and welcome to Talking Toys with Taylorand Jeff. Action Figure Exclusive. I'm
(00:39):
Taylor and I'm Jeff. And folks, this is the second and a half
time that we've tried to record thisshow. We were almost through with it
the last time and something happened andwe lost all of Taylor's audio, So
we will attempt to recreate the magicfor you here. This is the next
to last of the action figure exclusivesfor the Vintage Kenner toy line. We
(01:03):
talked about it and yak Face wasnot ever released in the United States officially,
so we were talking about whether ornot we should include it. But
you know what, he was onthe card back, so I say we
talked about him. So next timeout we will be talking yak Face,
but this time we're talking Warreck, who is the last of the e Walks.
This is kind of sad for me. I like the EU Walks.
(01:23):
I know everybody loves you, wellnot everybody. Everybody should love the e
Walks. People who don't love theEU walks are just too cool for their
own good. In my opinion, there's a certain place in hell for those
who don't love the EU walks.Yes, I agree, but yeah,
this this guy. It's funny.I was talking several years ago, when
(01:45):
I was still going to conventions regularly. I was talking to a guy about,
you know, yak face and bluesnaggle tooth and everything, and he
said, you know, it's funnythat those are the ones that are so
in demand and so expensive, becauseI've seen more of those than I have
Warrecks. I never see Warwick. And for a second I had to think
about it. I was like, that was work, Yeah, that was
an e walk, right, hesaid, yeah, he showed me a
(02:06):
picture. I said, okay, yeah, so I did have this guy
um, and I'm not sure ifI've bequeathed him to email yet or not.
I think I probably have. No. I think we have we have
lou Matt, but I don't thinkwe have Warwick. Okay, I may
hang on to Warwick for a littlewhile, since I know how well he
treated Wicket, which is to sayhe lost him. Folks. Is he
(02:27):
is really, really, really distraughtabout that. He's been trying to get
mine, as he should be.He should have to save up his allowance
that he doesn't get and uh andbuy one himself. Maybe thought we'll teach
him to hang on to stuff. It was my fault for giving a child
a toy that was that small hewas and he was still really really young.
Yeah, that's that's on me.That's on me. But so so
(02:53):
this guy came out at the endof the Power of the force Line in
nineteen eighty five. He came witha hood, a bow, and a
quiver which is not painted. Right. But so you didn't have one of
these, right, I'm assuming no, no, no, So out of
the ewalks, I loved the ewalksand I'm one of them, I only
had Low Grade, and at thetime, like you know, there were
(03:16):
money issues and even distribution issues,so I was never able to get any
more e walks past Lowgrade and itwas kind of a bummer for me because
I really wanted more. So outof my childhood figures, I had.
The only e walker I had wasLowgrad and that's the one that I have
today. But yeah, I ifI had a scene work, I probably
(03:40):
would have got this one. Well, let's talk about why I'm maybe getting
rid of Warwick sooner than I hadoriginally intended to. So Warwick looks cute
as long as his hood is onright, But when you take his hood
off, you realize that this mustbe where the term murder bearers came from.
First of all, unlike any othere walk, his head is tilted
(04:03):
slightly to the right. I sayslightly. It's it's it's halfway, but
it's probably at about a twenty degreeangle, I would say, yeah,
which, which is kind of creepy. You know, it's like he's kind
of looking at you like he's playingwith his food. He's got these dead
black eyes, you know, theydon't have any pupils or anything. He's
(04:24):
got the nose, the dark graynose. Then his mouth, like his
lips are pursed, and you cansee these two fangs. It looks like
the nos feratu fang sticking out ofthe front of his mouth. Yeah,
which is creepy enough as it is. But then he's got like one of
those chintz strap beards like you seeAmish men wearing. Because of the way
(04:44):
his fur is matted. Yes,why would Kenner do this to us?
Taylor? It's the I think thepart like, like even even with like
the black, black dead eyes, that's that's always kind of a scary thing.
And in the movie, when youthink about it's like, that's kind
of creepy. But the teeth isalso kind of a scary thing, the
beard. But for me, Ithink what's the most scary is that kind
(05:08):
of Patrick Bateman like head tilt ofhow should I kill you? Sort of
questioning the head tilts the part thatjust really freaks me out. I think
that's the part that that pushes himover that edge of murder pair more than
anything else. Kenner was onto somethinghere, And I'm not sure why they
(05:31):
decided this, but it's it's Iguess they've I guess whoever did it.
It's like, you know what, this is the last one. Let's um,
let's go out. Let's go outwith a murderous bang. Yeah,
I guess, I don't know.It's it's it's bizarre though, and you
know it. Any of one ofthese elements on its own wouldn't be so
bad, but you put them alltogether. The eyes have never looked creepy
(05:55):
until now. The mouth has neverlooked creepy until now. But again,
they've they've got the teeth sculpted inthere and the chin strap. He just
looks like a backwoods murder bear. It's it's weird because when you put the
hood on him, the hood coversup a lot of this and it makes
it okay. Well, it's likeme with facial hair. If I take
my facial hair off, no matterhow little I have, I look completely
(06:16):
different. Like people don't recognize me, true, true, And when I
have a head on, I lookcompletely different. Sometimes people don't recognize me
without the hat. You know whatI think the head tilt is. So
there's a couple of things I'm lookingat. There's a comparison picture with Roc
and lou Matt. They're together.Warwick also kind of leans, you know,
(06:38):
to one side. But I thinkwhat it is is, do you
remember in the Return of the Jediwhen they cut R two D two away
from the thing and R two Dtwo kind of falls face forward. They
pick him up and he opens upthe little electrocuting thing and sticks it out
(06:59):
and he shocks, yeah, thatewalk looks at him and kind of turns
his head. I think that's work, and I think maybe you're trying to
capture maybe that's what they're capturing. Is that kind of head tilt. Yeah,
you may be right, Like Iwas just sitting there thinking about it.
I think also because I looked atthe card and I was like,
is that the is that the onelike that kind of like turns and looks
(07:24):
and kind of even on the caryard, his heads tilted a little bit.
So I think they were just maybethey were trying to capture that sort
of a pill. And even withthe mouth opened, the teeth showing,
it's just the scowl and the eyesjust set it off and he doesn't look
as quizzical and instead he just looksmore murderous. Well, you're right talking
(07:45):
about that card back. Let's talkabout cardback real quick. You're right,
he is tilting his head. Thisthis looks creepy too. I'm not even
sure this is still. This almostlooks like a painting to me. It's
still. It is a still, but it almost looks like a painting.
But I do I do like thefact that they've got the you know,
kind of the hot pink backing behindthe figure in the hot pink like nameplate.
(08:09):
Um, but it looks weird withthat sort of magenta headdress that he's
got. But but yeah, this, yeah, I think I think he
may be right. This is theone that looks most like a man in
a suit of all the card backsthat we've gotten. But back to the
figures, so he's got the typicalagain, folks, this may not be
a very long show because he walksare all sort of the same. Um,
(08:30):
he's got the hair. The furon his face kind of splays out
from his from his nose, comesout from his nose. His ears are
really well sculpted. I think Ifeel like they're a little bit taller than
than some of the other ones we'veseen, a little bit taller, not
not necessarily taller, but I feellike the inside sculpted a little bit deeper.
(08:52):
Yeah, we've had before. Maybethey're wider or something, because yeah,
it looks seems like there's a littlemore detail. Yeah, and then
again coming down from there down throughhis neck and his chest and everything,
the fur is matted in places whichyou would see. And they've they've sculpted
on him a belt that goes aroundalmost his winden midsection. Um, they
didn't bother to paint it, soit's a little weird. But I like
(09:15):
it, like they've done before. They've got some of the some of the
hair, some of the fur issculpted over the belt, and some of
it is sculpted under so you know, because that's how it would happen as
he's wearing it, some of thefur would come out and ride over it.
One thing that's interesting is coming downfrom there looking at his back.
He's got some junk in the trunk. He really does. He's kind of
(09:37):
a bit of the belly and thebutt here. Yeah, he is.
He is definitely a certain mix alot e walk here and the other thing
like like big e walks and Icannot lie. Yes, I like big
walks and I cannot lie. Hisarms again, are very pretty standard for
e walks. You've got the furthat's coming down and sort of you know,
flowing down towards his wrists, andthen you know there's no fur on
(10:01):
his hands, and then the samewith his legs there it's all sort of
flowing down. But I think it'sinteresting that there's a very sharp line above
and below where his knees would be. You see that, Yeah, yeah,
this is the one that you walkthat that actually has some visible chunk
knees. Yeah, why do yousuppose they did that? You know,
it's one of those I've been tryingto kind of figure out, like why
(10:22):
in the world. And I thinkit's because maybe the the like based off
of the suit capture that they haveor the the suit the picture they had
at the character. It feels likethe suit for this character didn't fit quite
as much or quite as well, and so there's a lot of extra flowing
(10:45):
folds, and so I think they'rejust trying to to kind of capture those
folds. Okay, Yeah, Ithink you're probably right. It's it's it's
a weird it's a weird design consideringthat most of that you walks at this
point, I've had fairly straight legsand not really a lot of like knee
action. All of a sudden, you know, we're getting one that's got
(11:05):
you know, kind of double doubleset of fat knees here where it's you
know, very accentuated where it standsout. It's just I don't think it
quite as much knees as it's likefolds in the costume, and they're just
trying to accentuate that aspect. I'mtrying to remember it is this the same
(11:28):
that you walk that died. Idon't know. I don't think so.
I don't think they ever actually namedthat one. And that's all we're gonna
say about that, because that seemmakes me very sad and things that make
us happy. Thanks a lot,Taylor, I'm sorry. It's okay.
So coming down from his knees,we get the toe, you know,
the toes with the toenails, whichI've always been a big fan of that
(11:48):
scult. So the parts where thisfigure, the thing that really sets his
figure apart for me is the headpiece. So let's talk about that. Because
the bow is the same one thatwe got with um is it. It's
Loomat, Yeah, blue mat It'sjust a different color, right, Yeah,
(12:09):
So they reused the bow. LoomAT's got a lighter brown mark has
the darker brown bow. But thebow is reused. However, the quiver
is not. And it's weird becauseyou figured they would just reuse that part.
But they are not reused at all. Quiver are both brand new skulls
(12:33):
okay, but but not but notthe but not the bow. Not that
we've seen this before, Like there'sa few figures that have like the reused
hand cannons, guns, um,even lightsabers have just been recolored. I
mean, weapon wise, that's probablywhere Kenner says, and that they have
(12:56):
often reused weapons quite often. Thatmakes sense. But I mean the fact
that they they reuse this bow.Okay, well it's the standard you want
bow, big deal, But theydidn't reuse quiver just shows that they are
looking like they're they're tooling and sculptingmatters, like they are finding things that
(13:18):
work for the figures. Because youknow, lou Matt, their quiver kind
of goes off to the side,it reaches to the right side of the
body, and the arrowheads are donevastly different. Warrex actually sits on the
left left hand side of the bodyand has the spearheads up. So,
I mean, it's interesting how they'vetaken basically the same concept but retold it
(13:43):
into something new and you don't neversee this thing used again. M yeah,
all right, okay, I meanthat's like an a testament to Kenner,
that's is no, it is itis I do. And and I
like that quiver. I like theway that they've got the you know,
the leather strap coming down and wrappingaround what looks like we talked about it,
(14:07):
a log that's been hollowed out.Yeah, and it makes sense.
I mean, think about the ewalks. That would be like a kind
of a utilitarian thing for them touse. It's like that, Hey,
we've got this log, let's putsome leather on the bottom and put some
animal height around it. Will usethis to carry arrows around, and of
(14:28):
course we see the tops of thearrows there then probably mad out of stone
yep. But where this figure reallyshines is this head dress. And we
talked about this before. The headdresses for the Ewoks, we're all just
amazing and this one's no exception.M I like this one because a in
keeping with that whole Backwoods murder bearerthing. It looks like something that at
(14:48):
a burlap or something he made homemade. Kind of reminds me of a Friday
the Thirteenth part two, which isthe one where Jason is a full grown
adult but wearing like a burlap bagover his head with one eyehole cut out.
Yep. Kind of reminds me ofthat. But the cuts on it
are very uneven. The hole forhis face fit through is very uneven.
It, you know, it kindof goes up to a peak, but
it's not right in the middle, and then it comes down and frames his
(15:11):
face, but then at the bottomunder his chin where it straps together is
off center. Yeah, and they'vegot some really good fold work. And
then on the back coming down fromthere, it's it's cinched in the back,
but it's cinched very crudely. Talkto me a little bit about this.
Do we assume this is made outof leather or what? Yeah?
I would I would figure that prettymuch all of the e Walks, all
(15:33):
of their all of their fabric goodsare going to be made out of leather
because they I wouldn't really count themas people who do a lot of weaving.
If you look most of the stuffthey have, it seems like leather
stone sticks. Any weaving they haveare gonna be baskets. And if you
(15:54):
look in the movie, they're allvery crudely made, which tells me that
they haven't white got to that pointof making a lot of like textiles.
So I would think that pretty muchevery ewalks hood is going to be made
out of some sort of animal hide. Okay, And I mean looking at
this, it looks like animal hide, right, Yeah, No, it
(16:18):
makes sense. It makes sense. What about this color? What I called
him magenta earlier? But what you'reyou're you're the art expert. What color
is this? It's it's almost likea it's not quite magenta. It's it's
kind of a brownish color. I'mI'm seeing some of them. When it's
off of him, it looks browner, but when it's on his head,
it looks like it's got more purplein it to me, And I think,
(16:40):
I think that has to do withthe color of him, like when
he's kind of a like a verymuted, like a cool gray tone,
almost like a cooler like Davy's gray. Um. I say that because Davy's
gray is relatively warm, but thisis almost like a cool end of it,
where it's like the same sort ofvalue of gray, but it's it's
(17:03):
not quite very warm. It's it'sgot kind of a colder tone to it.
And I think with that and thenputting the hood on them, like
with that cooler value of gray,it makes the hood feel more more purple
in tone. But I think it'skind of it's a very mute, it's
(17:23):
a very subtle. It feels almostlike a like a siana or like a
raw umber with a touch of ofpurple dock side in it. Like it
just it's very very subtle. It'smore brown than anything, but it's a
very cool brown, so it tendsto fall more on kind of the purple
(17:45):
and red end of things. Okay, yeah, I believe that. Yeah,
I think that makes sense. You'dbuy that for a dollar, That's
what I thought. What I wasgoing to say, something that we haven't
seen before, at least that Iremember, is at the bottom on the
back of it, where it's cinchedup, it hangs down a little lower,
(18:07):
and it seems like there's a lotmore folded underneath. So this one
looks a little bit more haphazard tome than some of the others, which
I actually like. Do you seewhat I'm talking about? I could see
that, yeah, because it kindof turns up and then falls back and
then turns up and then you actuallysee the tie going through the multiple layers
and kind of cinching it. Butthe back it hangs a little bit more.
(18:30):
Yeah right, ye, all right, Well, you know, folks,
like I said, that's really allthere is to discuss about this figure.
So let's talk a little bit Taylor, tell me what is your favorite
feature about this toy? So forme, messages for that murderous scal I
really like that a lot. Ido love the accessories that come with Wark,
(18:51):
like the hood, the quiver ofthe bow. I like the fact
that we're getting another bow ewalk, and the accessories actually seen so much better
than LaMotte's orl Matt's accessories, Like, like, the accessories with this are
spot on. Okay, yeah,I agree. For me, it's it's
(19:11):
got to be. It's a tiebetween the head dress and that quiver these
carrying because I think both are justwonderful. And I don't mind that the
quiver is not painted because it's adifferent it's interesting that it's a different color.
Like his bow, his hood, and the quiver are all different colors
and I like that, but theyall work together. Yeah, yep,
(19:32):
and uh, the both. Icouldn't pick one because they're both. They're
both unique to this figure and they'reboth what they both makes sense for this
character. Yeah, for accessory wise, I mean that right makes sense.
And even you know, even tokind of piggyback off of that, like
(19:52):
the the tone of the accessories.I mean, every e walk has a
hood. These e walks have likesatchels that cut across this happened to be
quivers, and even like the reuseof bows, but this time bows still
Each e walk has its own specifictools and even though there's parts that are
(20:14):
reused, they are recolored in adifferent way that makes the standard part.
And I like that about the ewalks that they are so vastly different from
one another that you can identify whoseparts go to who so easily. Yeah,
agreed, agreed, Yeah, Sowhat is your least favorite feature about
this toy? So something we didn'treally talk about on the actual sculpture the
(20:37):
figure, there's that belt. I'mkind of bummed that there's absolutely no pain
application that belt, and I nooriginal we had talked about. Well maybe
that's kind of the a light tanor the color of his skin and everything,
but I really feel like that beltwould have stood out and looked so
(20:57):
much better with just that touch ofgray that's on the nose. I'd like
to see in that belt painted.I think that that was kind of a
cop out. It would be toughto do though, and do well,
because it's such a thin piece ofyou would assume leather yeah, I mean,
but I get it. For me, it's the fact that he just
(21:19):
looked creepy. Normally I would likethat, but I just I can't.
I don't know if I could sleepat night knowing this thing was in the
room with me. It's that's whereI'm at. It's one of those like
I can understand again the pill ofhaving the mouth open, the head tilted,
but it's that paired with the scowlof the eyes. The eyebrows should
(21:41):
have been a little bit more raised, a little bit more surprised or more
quisitive, and I think that wouldhave changed the tone of the figure by
just changing those eyes. Yeah.Again, any any one of those by
itself wouldn't be bad, but youput them all together, and it's just
that's the stuff that nightmares are madecreepy. Yep, I agree. What
(22:04):
do you feel like best exemplifies theKinner line with this toy? You know,
for this one, thinking back orthinking with even like the head tilt
and everything, Kinner is definitely givingus what they see. You know,
They're they're giving us an accuracy thatworks that is sculptor well enough that you
(22:25):
look at it and you can tellwho that character is supposed to be,
even though colors are not exactly thesame. Like I would look at this
and I'm like, yeah, it'sthis ewalk that's on the front. I
can tell it looks like him.And so they've given us really good sculpting
that that gives us what we needwithout going too far. And I like
that even though that at this pointthey're sculpting is you know, it's it's
(22:49):
the ritz. It's on the highend. They still haven't gone so far
that it doesn't either look like thecharacter or it's too much. Okay,
Yeah, I agree with that. For me, it's the fact that again,
this is the last e walk wegot in the line and they're still
giving us new stuff. They couldhave just you know, knocked this one
(23:11):
out and given us a very genericewok, but they didn't. They give
us something new. He's he's differentfrom the other e walks. You look
at him, you can tell adifference between him and any of the others.
Yeah, So I I just Ithink it's great that and that's that's
really simple for me, is that, you know, they just they keep
giving us new new ideas, whichI think is to be commended. So
(23:36):
is this toy cool. I thinkso. I think so too, even
though he gives me the creeps,it is cool, you know. The
the the face is weird, butat the end of the day, it's
an ewok at Star Wars. It'sdifferent from the ones we got before.
So yeah, this is a coolfigure. Yeah, I agree. So,
folks who love to hear your thoughts, how creeped out are you by
(24:00):
a Warwick? So let us knowon the Facebook page and show us pictures
of yours if you have one.And if you have one that is somehow
you've made even creepier. We'd loveto hear that as well, like painted
like, you know, blood onhis teeth or something. I don't know,
I'd love to see that. Soedited Facebook page and let us know.
