I'm Dr. Princess Fumi Hancock, an African Nigerian princess and a board-certified psychiatric Mental Health Doctor of Nurse Practice. Trauma should never be underestimated or made light of. I've witnessed people suffering and even losing their lives due to trauma. Let's exercise empathy and understand the impact of trauma on individuals. Recently, Harry and Meghan's situation reminded me of the lasting trauma Harry may have from losing his mother. Triggers can cause strong reactions. It's crucial to focus on the message and support others. Don't underestimate trauma; it affects us all. Be inspired and value your journey!

me to come into your presence today. What do I want to talk about
today? I want to talk abouttrauma, right. I want to talk
about why it's important that we donot underestimate each other's trauma. We do
not underestimate people's trauma. We donot make light of it, we do
not joke about it, because there'snothing actually funny about trauma. I know

(02:23):
a few a lot of people thathave passed on, that have completed suciety
that I've been quite miserable, thatI've attempted, that I've done all kinds
of thoughts because of their trauma. And so when we live in a society
where we cannot exercise empathy, andthat when we hear other people's stories,

(02:43):
and the first thing we want todo is make light of it. The
first thing we want to do isjoke about it. The first thing we
want to do is just to youknow, kind of ridicule them. I
think that's a sick kind of acommunity. If you would agree with me,
Okay, So I want to talkabout the impact of trauma, that

(03:04):
it is essential for us or tounderstand what trauma can do to somebody.
So for instance, if someone hadwitness somebody died, if someone had seen
somebody had an accident, a gashlyaccident. Let's say, for instance,
Um, Harry and Meghan, Right, we all know that they live in

(03:27):
the US now, and there wasa there was a situation where, um,
they got into they came into NewYork to do an event, and
when they got into I guess acarp or something like that, they had
paparazzi that was following them, right, they had a lot of paper perhaps
that was following them, and perhapsthey might have talked about oh it was

(03:53):
like two hours, but that wasnot the That was not the main stage
of their experience. Can I saythat again, the fact that it might
not be two hours in New York, that's not the main message of the
experience. And so for people tolook around and start say, oh,

(04:16):
their information is different from what thecap driver said from what we need to
stop that and really see and understandthat this or somebody who was young and
I think from what I heard,it's almost twenty six years ago when the
mother Diana passed through a gashly accident. Because we find him and the wife

(04:42):
and the children going all over theplace, doesn't mean that he's over his
trauma, you all. And everytime anything close to what took the life
of his mother happens, it's quitepossible that he might over It's quite possible
that that would trigger the past. And so for them to be afraid when

(05:08):
they saw lights and cameras around them, it is not unusual for those who
might be dealing with trauma. Itis not unusual for him to over want
to protect the wife and protect theirprivacy and protect themselves when they see popularity

(05:29):
around them. And so for peopleto sit around and be making light of
it and joking like, oh,they lied about two hours. Who cares
about the two hours. Let metell you something. It might have been
one minute, and that one minutewould look like ten hours to them because
it's a flashback of what happened inthe past, is a flashback of trauma

(05:54):
that is probablished in dealing with andperhaps it might think maybe I've over you
know of a comment, but thatthis experience we're happen to know, Oh,
maybe I'm not doing yet. I'mnot finished here with my trauma work.
And so it's important that we needto exercise empathy when we see people

(06:16):
who are being triggered with trauma. After all, we've all been through over
two years of COVID. Some peopleperhaps are even still dying as I speak.
I've known patience in places that I'veworked. I've known people personally that
are passed due to COVID. Andso when I hear people passing still passing,

(06:44):
even though we have all the toolsnow still passing from COVID, you
know what it does. Even asa psychiatric provider, it takes me back
at the flashbacks and who knows, without my knowledge, without my background,
without my expertise, who knows Iwould have responded, finding that that's somebody

(07:08):
just fast. And so I saidthis to US, America, Nigeria,
all over the world. If you'rewatching, let's not underestimate people's trauma.
You don't want somebody to question yourtrauma. You don't want somebody to question
how you feel about your trauma.Right now, in America, most women

(07:33):
are beside themselves, you know, rightfully so because a lot of rights have
been taken away, right, Andwe're saying that America is a leading country,
and yet we have people under theguise of the Bible, which I
read just taking just getting crazy andjust taking pulling away right. And yet

(08:01):
they're saying they're free people and they'retaking away right. They're making men make
decisions about things that they are solutelyknow nothing about. And so when something
happens and we see on the TVhow a woman almost passed, if I

(08:24):
had been through that, guess what'sgonna happen? Trigger? Now, does
that mean that if somebody sees mesitting next to me and see how I
reacts because of the trigger, isit right to make light of that?
Is it right to say, well, it's no big deal, after all,

(08:45):
it's just not Carolina, or afterall is Arizona, or after all
is your toys? Don't big deal, get over it. When you make
light of people's trauma, you getyou. You're telling them to get over
it, and that's just not cool. So do not, never ever underestimate

(09:13):
people's trauma. The lesson we shouldhave learned from that story about Megan and
Harry. Right, Wow, thisguy, this young man is still traumatized
by the death passing of the mother. And when you are able to see

(09:33):
that way, then you will notfocus about on what he or she said
about two hours, three hours,or what the cab driver said the second
driver, cab driver said, that'snot the point. The point is he
felt that he needed to protect hiswife. He was scared, he was

(09:56):
triggered. Can we see that? Can we all see that that that was
his response to the paparazzi was atrigger from what that young man passed through

(10:16):
when he was young and he losthis mom. That is a message that
I took out of that. Notfor two hours, not all that,
because frankly, if you were kidnapped, you would have been in a place
for ten minutes. That ten minuteswill look to you like ten hours.
So let's not focus on minor things, but focus on the major things that

(10:41):
we could use to actually help ourown kids, because frankly, our teenagers,
our young ones in college, theyare constantly being traumatized by all the
foolishness that our so called leaders professionalasports are displayed across social media and media

(11:05):
platforms. Never underestimate people's trauma. So until next time America, to next
time Nigeria, until next time mypeople all over the world, be inspired,
be motivated, be your sentimental value. Understand that you are the hero

(11:26):
in your life story. Do notallow anybody to rewrite your story for you.
Just like what we just talked about. Your trauma is your trauma and
do not allow anybody to underestimate whatyour trauma is. If you haven't subscribe
