Speaker 1 (00:00):
Do you ever feel overwhelmed by the ever changing world
of technology? Check it Out can help make some sense
of it all. Breaking down geeksbeak into street speak. Technology columnist, author,
and TV personality Mark Saltzman covers consumer technology each week
for every listener. Mark tackles the latest news, reviews, and
how toos to help you understand what's hot, what's not
(00:22):
and why.
Speaker 2 (00:24):
Hey, everyone, welcome to Teck it Out. It's episode three
seventy eight. Hope everyone is doing well, and thank you
for making tech it Out a small part of your day.
Whether you're new to this radio show and podcast or
have been a longtime listener, Thank you for tuning into
the program. And we have so much good stuff to
get to this hour. Let me tell you what's on
(00:44):
tap and then we can kick things off. I was
in San Jose this week at the Samsung Galaxy Unpacked
event on Wednesday, where the tech giant unveiled its latest
family of AI powered smartphones, and so we'll start Teck
it Out today with an interview recorded at the event.
After that. Abbott, a pharma company best known for its
Freestyle Libra wearable device for those with diabetes. They've got
(01:08):
a new product called Lingo that I think you're going
to want to hear about. It's wild. Also on the
show today, as you may know, I attended the twenty
twenty five Consumer Electronics Show or CES in Las Vegas
the other week, and so we're going to hear from
Intel about its big announcements from the show. Speaking of Intel,
they're the title sponsor on tech it Out with its
(01:29):
Intel Core Ultra Series two processors, and so I'll tell
you more about that shortly. But let's officially kick off
a brand new tech it Out episode with our first interview.
All right, so I'm here sitting down with Blake Geyser,
head of Smartphone product Management at Samsung Electronics America, at
Galaxy Unpacked in January, beautiful San Jose. Blake is here
(01:50):
to tell us all about the new family of Samsung
Galaxy S twenty five devices, all powered by AI. First
of all, Blake, congrats on another Unpacked under your belt.
Speaker 3 (01:59):
Thank you so much much, and I appreciate you coming
to see just all the exciting things that we're bringing
forth with the new S twenty five family.
Speaker 2 (02:06):
Yeah, so first of all, just to step back for
a moment. Unpacked is a bi annual event where you
celebrate and you launch these new devices globally. The one
in the summer is for your Z family, your flip
and folds, but this one here in January is the
S family. This is the big one. This is like
the super Bowl of unpacked events.
Speaker 3 (02:24):
Correct, you know, this is the event where a lot
of our big tech is going to be introduced to
our customers around the world.
Speaker 2 (02:30):
Yeah, all right, So Galaxy S twenty five, there's a
trio of devices at a high level, tell us about them,
and I know the big story this year is AI,
so we should probably start there.
Speaker 1 (02:40):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (02:40):
You know, if we take a step back to S
twenty four, that's when we introduced the first mobile AI
platform to the market, and that was a collection of
many different useful features that we brought forth and over
the last year we've taken a lot of those lessons
learned and we took the approach to S twenty five
of building a with AI in mind from the ground up.
(03:02):
So everything from our hardware and chipset all the way
through the new features and functionalities that we're bringing to market.
It's really a true AI phone in your pocket.
Speaker 2 (03:13):
Some people tense up when they hear the word AI,
probably because they don't really understand what it is. And
it's beyond generative AI where you're typing in a prompt
and you're asking something that you would ask, say, chat youpt.
There's so much more to it. But essentially, if I may,
AI just helps you get more done in less time,
and your device is becoming a smarter smartphone. If that's fair.
Speaker 3 (03:33):
That is a great way to look at it. We're
trying to allow AI to do the heavy lifting for you,
so whether that's to do multiple actions just with a
simple voice prompt rather than having to go into multiple
different apps find information for you, or do things like
just make your device work better where you don't even
(03:54):
see AI working and it's working in the background. It's
all about making this device as personalized as possible, getting
you things quicker and more efficiently, and just enjoying your
device more.
Speaker 2 (04:05):
All right, So let's unpack some of that pun intended
along with what was introduced last year when it comes
to AI, like photo editing tools, circle to search, voice
to text transcription, and language translation. There's now new features
like auto suggestions, audio eraser, audio recognition, and a lot more.
Can you share what's new and exciting from your advantage point.
Speaker 3 (04:26):
There's just so much on we can't fit it in.
Speaker 2 (04:29):
Got like seven more minutes, Blake, but no, all kidding aside,
What to You is like wow, when you're playing around
with the S twenty five, long before the general public does,
What to You has been super impressive. All Cherry pick
three different things.
Speaker 3 (04:41):
One is what we call AI Select, and that is
a tool that you can utilize that intelligently knows what's
on your screen and provide you with recommendations of things
you might want to do. So you're watching a video,
it will pull up the ability to turn it into
a gift. If you're looking at a photo, you know
your generative edics tools will become available to you. Really
(05:02):
just letting you do more without having to go and
find various different settings and different clicks. The second is
really a seamless integration between our applications. So now you
can utilize with a long press on your side button,
go out find information, and within that prompt you can
say things like find me the next basketball game, put
(05:22):
it in my calendar and text it to Mark, and
it's able to go and find out when that next
game is where you're at, put it into your calendar
and send it to you all with just one simple
voice prompt that would have taken you seven to eight
nine clicks to do prior to this, so really seamlessly
integrating these voice actions within that. And then the last
(05:45):
is taking personalization to the next level. So we've introduced
something we're calling our Personal Data Engine, and you can
think of that as a personal LM that's learning about.
Speaker 2 (05:55):
You, which is a large language model like a chat
ept if you will large Google Gemini.
Speaker 3 (06:00):
Yeah, it's information where it learns about you and then
can preemptively provide you with information or actions that you
might want to take.
Speaker 2 (06:08):
So if you're.
Speaker 3 (06:08):
Doing things over and over again on your device, for me,
I get into my car, I turn my bluetooth on,
I get out of my car, I turn my Bluetooth off,
it will recognize that I do that multiple times and
suggest it as a routine, saying, hey, let's just do
this for you, so you can stop clicking that button
every time you get into your car. As well as
introducing what we call the now brief where you wake
up in the morning. It's a widget right there. It
(06:31):
recognizes things that are important to you, and just in
one screen provides that information to you without having to
go in and do multiple clicks again. So I'll wake
up in the morning, It'll give me the weather because
that's what I look at. It will give me news
that I'm interested in. It will tell me what my
calendar looks like for the rest of the day, and
if the weather's bad, it will let me know that
I might need to leave.
Speaker 2 (06:51):
Early for that day, or if it senses traffic en
route to the office exactly, continue to just update. So
taking all that information and that is completely locked down
on the chip with Knocks, we have enhanced the security
certificate of our Knocks vault and we've enhanced our end
to end encryption. So you know, just like last year,
we're continuing to drive security as a key point for us.
(07:15):
And within your settings, you can choose not to do
any of these things. You can choose to completely delete
them from it all options, or do it completely on device.
Whatever it is that makes each user more comfortable. You
gave an example to the crowd here, journalists here, and
you talked about sleep and how if you wear a
Galaxy watch or ring to bed and it knows that
(07:36):
you're not having a great sleep, it may suggest, for example,
to turn down the temperature of your thermostat or do
it automatically through smart things, or that your TV's on, Like,
can you tell us about some of that?
Speaker 3 (07:46):
Yeah, you know, sleep is important to us. We really
have been digging deep into it. It's so important to
our health and with our rings that we introduced second
half of last year, our Galaxy watches and the S
twenty five to be able to provide you with anything
that you have tied into your smart things app You
have smart thermometers, smart lights, whatever it might be to
(08:08):
give you that sleep environment to help you recognize what
happens and what makes you sleep better. So if it's
warmer and you're not sleeping, well, it's going to let
you know that. And to your point, the one that
I'm really excited about. I have to use a TV
to fall asleep. It will recognize when I fall asleep,
count down to ten and turn the TV off for
me so I can fall asleep and then stay asleep better.
Speaker 2 (08:29):
Yeah, that's a goe for my wife Kelly, who also
needs a TV to fall asleep, but keeps it on
all night and it disrupts her sleep. I'm sure. So
that's a good one. And then one more AI feature
before we talk hardware, Blake is I was really impressed
by the ability to press and hold on a YouTube
video and ask for a summary of that video to
be sent to your note sections kind of tied to
what you were talking about earlier with a voice prompt,
(08:50):
but you can also do it manually just by pressing
and holding the side button.
Speaker 3 (08:53):
Right correct, you press and hold that side button. You
can have any kind of voice prompt that you want,
or there's a button that will pop up and say
ask specifically about what's on your screen. And so that's
something where you have a really long video you want
to know, you know what.
Speaker 2 (09:08):
What did this guy think of the s twenty five smartphone?
And you don't want to watch a thirty minute unboxing
of it? You can just press right exactly. You know,
you'll get the full summary. Hey, he thought it was
the greatest device ever before.
Speaker 3 (09:19):
He did, yes, and you can you know in that
voice prompt how it saved to your Samsung Notes And
we'll even provide you with the URL so you can
go back and watch that video and its entirety.
Speaker 2 (09:29):
Super smart. And then before we wrap up, let's talk hardware. Obviously,
people love capturing moments on their phone video and photos.
And also there's a newer processor, and talk to us
a bit about that.
Speaker 3 (09:39):
Yeah, So, deep collaboration with Qualcom, we're introducing the Snapdragon
eight Elite for Galaxy. That is a three and animeter
processor by far, you know, the highest performing chipset that
we've ever brought into one of our devices without impacting
battery life, same battery life as last year, even though
it's more powerful and better AI. Right, we're seeing a
(10:00):
better battery lot cool because the three and nanimeter processor
uses less power. And then just how we've optimized the
battery using AI even better, we're seeing year over year
enhancements even though we have not changed the size of
the battery.
Speaker 2 (10:15):
So there's three devices, the S twenty five, the S
twenty five plus, and then there's the S twenty five Ultra.
And on the Ultra there's a new fifty megapixel wide
angle camera.
Speaker 3 (10:24):
Correct, So with last year with S twenty four, we
took our telephoto lens and upgraded that from twelve megapixels
to fifty megapixels. Now we've taken our ultra wide lens
from twelve megapixels to fifty megapixels, so that gives us
high resolution on all three of those lenses where you
want to get more within that picture and provide you
with great detail there. But then those macro shots if
(10:46):
you want to get really close to something and get
a lot of detail. It's providing us four times the
amount of detail year every year on those really close.
Speaker 2 (10:54):
Sub images, and then editing those photos even better. Now
you don't have to circle, for example, those people obambing
your picture. You can have the AI detect what it
thinks you want to remove, and it just does it
for you. Where could our listeners learn more?
Speaker 3 (11:07):
All of that's going to be available on Samsung dot com.
Speaker 2 (11:10):
All right, So pre orders are now available and it
launches February seventh at retail and online. Great to see you, Blake,
and congrats on yet another successful unpacked.
Speaker 3 (11:18):
Thanks Mark, really appreciate sharing this with you and your listeners.
Speaker 2 (11:21):
We'll be right back with more Check it Out.
Speaker 4 (11:24):
Listen to check it out whenever you want to find
the check it Out podcast, did I Too, or wherever
you get your podcasts.
Speaker 2 (11:40):
Welcome back to check it out before we touch Base
with Abbot to learn more about their new wearable device
they made a big splash with at the recent Consumer
Electronics show. I did mention Intel was the title sponsor
on this program and we are going to touch base
soon with asthma Azis from the company to hear all
about what's new from Intel. But if you are in
the market to buy a new PC, really there's never
(12:02):
been a more exciting time, thanks to more powerful devices
driven by AI, much longer battery life than we've seen before,
and countless designs like touch and convertibles where the laptop
can convert into a tablet by bending back the screen.
Speaking of which, many of today's laptops are not just
thin in light but have a stunning OLED display, and
(12:22):
Intel is leading the charge with its new Intel Core
Ultra PCs series, two laptops that are powering portable PCs
across more than twenty five computer makers. They can deliver
a lot more performance, up to eighty percent more for gaming,
for instance, compared to last year's machines, yet amazingly consume
up to fifty percent less power to do so. This
(12:44):
translates to battery life of more than twenty hours with
some applications. Head on over to Intel dot com slash
aipc to learn more. That's Intel dot com slash aipc.
All right on with the show. You don't have to
have diabetes to know about Abbott's poppyler biowarable device called
Freestyle Libre. I always see it when I'm out. It's Warren,
(13:05):
usually on the back of the upper arm. This is
a continuous glucose monitoring device that measures blood sugar levels.
And now the company has a product called Lingo. It's
another biowearable device again, which just means you wear it
on your body. And this is designed to help people
improve their metabolism, eating habits and overall health. Is this
the same as the Freestyle Libre? Who is this for? Well?
(13:28):
Joining us to chat is Pamela Nissovich Bead. She's a
global nutritionist at Abbot's Lingo business. Welcome to the show, Pam,
good to chat with you.
Speaker 5 (13:37):
I'm excited to be here.
Speaker 2 (13:38):
Thank you, and it is okay to call you Pam. Yes,
all right, nice and informal. Before we talk about Lingo
by Abbot, please tell us a bit about your work.
Speaker 5 (13:46):
Sure, so, I am a registered dietitian and My specialty
is actually sports dititian. Outside of Abbot, I work with
high level athletes. I advise on nutrient timing and nutrient
delivery and just how do we use nutrition as this
great tool to fine tune and optimize performance as well
as protect the athlete from a health standpoint. I've also
(14:07):
been with Abbott for a very long time. I started
in pediatric nutrition as a clinician. Actually before I came
to Abbot, so I was in the hospital. I was
working in type one diabetes and genetics and obesity research,
and then I started at Abbot on our premature infant
formula brands. Prior to joining LINGO, I was actually using
continuous glucose monitors to fine tune athlete performance and I
(14:28):
was brought in as an expert to really help people
understand this. So what about glucose and so as we
brought LINGO to life, I really kept that in the
back of my mind of how do we give people
a tool in the palm of their hand that helps
them fine tune their own nutrition, their own lifestyle and
really explain what this data means.
Speaker 2 (14:46):
And somehow you found the time to author a couple
of books over the years oh yes, including fuel the fire, sweat, eat, repeat,
and run to lose among them. So Abbot, they've enjoyed
tremendous success with its Freestyle Libre platform. As I mentioned
off the top, I know a lot of my listeners.
If they don't wear it, they know someone who does,
or they've seen it. Millions and millions have been sold.
(15:07):
So let's first explain what that is and then we'll
pivot and talk about Lingo.
Speaker 5 (15:11):
Sure, so it's kind of like you said at the beginning,
no one knows how to manage glucose better than Avid.
With our Freestyle Libra technology, we're really the leader in
that technology, and we pioneered glucose sensing and we've studied
you know, glucose and continuous glucose monitoring because we use
it to help over six million people globally manage their
(15:32):
glucose and free style Libray has clinical and real world
proven outcomes that support its use as well. So at Lingo,
what we did is we took this really strong foundation
of glucose knowledge and we thought, we all have glucose,
we all want to optimize our health, our wellness, and
we're at a time when metabolic help is not at
(15:53):
a great state worldwide, and so that's where we thought,
you know, how do we bring this great technology really
to the back of the arms of war individuals who
can benefit from it.
Speaker 2 (16:01):
Going back to the Freestyle Libre, this wearable or biowearable
device monitors your blood glucose levels and so this now
means fewer pin pricks where they have to prick their
finger in order to test their blood. Is that what
we're talking about here.
Speaker 5 (16:16):
That's that's true. So when you think through how we
used to measure glucose levels, it really was a finger
prick and when I started in clinic, that's what we
were using. And you get this value of blood glucose
and it's a snapshot in time. But glucose has a
ton of variation throughout the day. So with continuous glucose monitoring,
we see more patterns and trends and you know that
minute by minute data like you would have on with Lingo.
(16:39):
For Freestyle Libra, we use it to manage conditions like
type one diabetes, type two. It's got features for insulin
management and medication and sharing with your healthcare professional in
a different range than you would have for Lingo. But
the technology is the same in which we're pivoting from
this snapshot fingerstick to this continuous look of what's going
(16:59):
on behind and the scenes.
Speaker 2 (17:00):
I know the expression is ignorance is bliss, but I'm
a firm believer that data is bliss. So let's now
talk about Lingo. What is it exactly and how is
it different than freestyle Libra sure.
Speaker 5 (17:10):
So, Lingo is a continuous glucose monitor. It's really two
tools here. You've got a biosensor that you would wear
on the back of your arm. It utilizes a tiny
filament think about about the size and the length of
an eyelash. It's very flexible. SIT's right below your skin,
and it's going to measure your interstitial fluid. So it
never touches blood, glucose or blood. But basically, the biosensor
(17:32):
is going to be measuring your interstitial fluid.
Speaker 6 (17:34):
It's going to send.
Speaker 5 (17:35):
That data to an app on your smartphone, and Lingo
is going to translate that data and so you're going
to see your glucose in real time, minute by minute.
You're going to see it in graph form. And what
Lingo does differently than a lot of other glucose trackers
is it's kind of highlighting the times where you've got
kind of spikes and crashes in this movement that you
should really pay attention to. And we call that the
(17:57):
Lingo count. So it's highlighting in its giving a value
to spikes so that you can play detective, just like
we would with any data. Right, what is important about
data is what we do with it.
Speaker 2 (18:07):
So how is this different than freestyle libre? More about
Lingo with Abbot When we return on teck it out.
Speaker 1 (18:14):
Want to follow Mark Google Mark with a C and
Saltzman with a Z breaking down geeks peak into street speak.
Speaker 6 (18:32):
This is check it out.
Speaker 1 (18:33):
To check it out with technology columnist, author, and TV
personality Mark Saltzman.
Speaker 2 (18:39):
We're chatting with Pam or Pamela Nisovich, bead global nutritionist
at Abbot's Lingo business, to teach us all about the
Lingo biowarable device that made some headlines again, this time
at the Consumer Electronics show last week in Las Vegas.
Pam is a certified specialist in sports dietetics and an
expert in nutrition communications. In fact, just as my goal
(18:59):
on this program is to break down geeksbeak into street speak,
Pam's mission is to translate the often complex science of
nutrition and metabolism into tangible and practical advice to inspire
others to change their habits and improve their overall health.
Before the Breakpam, you were starting to explain the differences
between the Freestyle Libre product, which is super popular also
(19:22):
from Abbott, same company, with the new Lingo device. Could
you elaborate please sure?
Speaker 5 (19:27):
Compared to Freestyle Libra, the range in Lingo is going
to be different. Lingo is available without a prescription, It's
available over the counter. There's also different perspectives on what
we should be using lingo for what we should be
using free cell libra for Lingo's not for individuals who
are using insulin. Lingos for individuals over eighteen freesell Libra
(19:47):
is appropriate for individuals who are managing diabetes, children who
are managing conditions too. Freestyle is a prescription product.
Speaker 2 (19:57):
Okay, thanks for that clarification and distinction. So is it
fair to say then that lingo is a preventative tool
so you don't become type two diabetic.
Speaker 5 (20:05):
I like to think of it as a proactive tool.
Speaker 2 (20:07):
Okay, I think we're saying the same thing, but yeah,
that's better. It's a better word. For it.
Speaker 5 (20:11):
What we're finding with lingo is there's a variety of
people who are using it. So some individuals who know
they have a health condition that they are trying to
proactively approach. Right, so, you know you have pre diabetes,
you have diabetes in your family, and you say, I
want my journey to look differently. I want a different
end to my story than someone who you know disease progresses.
(20:31):
So people are using it proactively to make changes, bring
new habits to life so that their metabolic health is
in a better place. Some people are you can think
of like the biohackers who just want to peek behind
the scenes, fully optimize theirselves and just really fine tune
what kind of what their glucose is looking like, or
maybe they're working on nutrient timing for a marathon or
(20:53):
a triathlon. And then others who are who are curious
about nutrition or weight loss or just general metabolic health
and they know that glucose is kind of at the
center of that conversation. So there's a lot of different
people who are using lingo really to feel better in
their own skin and really to feel better about their
own health.
Speaker 2 (21:12):
So with that in mind, I'd love for you to
explain how our bodies convert glucose, which is I believe
the main source of energy that we derive from food
and drinking into fuel for our bodies. And what is
it then that we need to control? Is it too much?
Is it the wrong time of day, the wrong foods?
What are the issues here?
Speaker 5 (21:29):
Sure? So, our body uses glucose and then fat as fuel,
and we need to manage our glucose for many reasons.
One almost every food we eat is going to contribute
to glucose to our diet, especially carbohydrates and sugar sources.
And our body likes to keep our level of glucose
within a certain range. And by keeping it within a
certain range and even a certain pattern, we can kind
(21:51):
of proactively prevent a lot of the leading causes of
death that are actually associated.
Speaker 6 (21:56):
With poor glucose control.
Speaker 5 (21:57):
So what happens is when we have a lot of
glucose flooding our system. We often see that as a
spike in a crash on our graph, but you can
often sometimes feel it right, You're not you're not focusing well,
your mood is shifted, your energy levels are in flux.
But what's happening is We've got all this glucose, and
our body is going to put it into storage, so
(22:18):
insulin comes into action, and basically insulin is transporting this
glucose from circulation to hopefully the muscles that are going
to use it as we're active throughout the day. But
we can only store so much glucose across our body
in you know, mostly liver and muscles, and so the
extra that we have based on really kind of our
(22:39):
diet and our choices, we often have extra we are
eventually going to be storing that as fat, right, and
we know that across our world we've got you know,
a problem with obesity, a problem with metabolic syndrome, and
so some of that is based very much on kind
of this excess of glucose, excess of insulin, you know,
different levels of response for insulin. So that's why it's
(23:02):
important to kind of think through where our nutrition is
coming from, think through changes we can make to keep
our glucose at a healthier level. But also as our
glucose is kind of spiking and crashing throughout the day,
the data is pointing to increase risk for diseases like
cardiovascular disease, Alzheimer's, diabetes, other conditions that those are chronic
(23:25):
conditions that you know they increase mortality. And then we
have conditions just like skinhealth, obesity, menopause symptoms, pcos that
are very much tied to what our glucose patterns.
Speaker 2 (23:37):
Are really interesting, Can you, before we wrap up, walk
us through how it works so you don't need a
prescription for this. You buy it either online or at retail.
You get that sensor, that biowearable sensor. Do you download
the app? Can you walk us through a bit of
how it works?
Speaker 5 (23:52):
Sure, so you would visit hellolingo dot com and you
would purchase biosensor. There are three different kind of packages
you could choose from. And this is one of the
most common questions I get of how long do I
use Lingo? So if we have an option for those
who want to learn more, it's a two week option.
It's one biosensor. Each biosensor you wear for fourteen days
on the back of your arm. So that's really to
(24:14):
get an understanding of how your body's responding the food
to exercise, distress, et cetera. That is one biosensor is
forty nine dollars and then the build package would be
four weeks two biosensors. That's really taking a deeper dive
into metabolism. You're experimenting with habits and changes, you're learning
from Lingo, you're getting coaching throughout. So for two biosensors
(24:38):
or four weeks, that would be eighty nine dollars and
then the Transform package is twelve weeks. So that's for
those who want to really continue to deep dive, continue
to find to create consistent routines because it really is
a lot about habit change, and that would be two
hundred and forty nine. So those are all available at
Hello Lingo dot com. And you're right, no prescription would
(24:58):
be needed.
Speaker 2 (24:58):
Okay, do you wear it continue or do you take
it off to go to the shower like or if
you go for a swim.
Speaker 5 (25:03):
Good question. We'd like to say that Lingo is life proof,
so you would wear it continuously. Once you apply the sensor,
it's going to stay on the back of your arm
through showering, swimming, all all life.
Speaker 2 (25:14):
Okay. On the app, which the companion app, which gives
you a window into what the biosensor is capturing it.
Does it push notifications to you or is it the
onus is on you to pull it. Do you know
what I mean? Like, is your phone going to notify
you if something that you should know about or is
it up to you to go and dive deep into
the data in the app and graphs and charts to
(25:36):
read the information.
Speaker 5 (25:37):
Right, It's really up to you on how you want
to use Lingo. So we have an option for different
notification settings. But we're finding that people are engaging with
Lingo consistently throughout the day. They're diving into their data,
they're learning from our discover page, they're taking challenges, they're
looking at their graphs, their real time data, their progress.
So it's really you being that detective of what's going
(25:59):
on going on and then what changes you want to make.
Speaker 2 (26:02):
Sounds great. Thank you so much, pam so Hello Lingo
dot Com.
Speaker 6 (26:06):
Yes, thank you too, Mark.
Speaker 2 (26:07):
Pamela Nisovich Beid has been our guest. All the best,
all the best of you.
Speaker 6 (26:11):
Thank you too.
Speaker 2 (26:12):
What can your next laptop do that you're existing one cannot?
We're going to catch up with Intel when we return
on Tech it Out.
Speaker 1 (26:19):
Breaking Down GeekSpeak into Street Speed Check it Out, hosted
by Mark Saltzman.
Speaker 2 (26:36):
Welcome back to Check it Out. We cover cybersecurity a
lot on this program and how you can best protect
yourself in the digital age, even if you're not super
tech savvy. One part of the solution is securely shopping online,
and so I'm thrilled about my partnership with Visa on
tech it out, as they've made some significant investments in
fraud prevention over the past five years, as much as
(26:58):
ten billion dollar yes that's billion with the b to
support Visa's brand promise to protect the financial information of
individuals and businesses. Zero liability means peace of mind when
you shop online using your Visa card. There can be
no half measures when it comes to cybersecurity, which is
why the company takes an aggressive and multi layered approach
(27:19):
to combating the rising threat of malicious software and other
threats by well funded and global criminal enterprises. Read more
about Visa and how securing the world's payments is priority
one at Visa dot Com slash Security. That's Visa dot
Com slash Security. It's a new year, and hey in
the tech world, it starts off with the bang as
(27:40):
the Consumer Electronics Show or CES for short, takes place
in Las Vegas every early January, and as we heard
from Sam Safe at Intel. Also this hour, there were
so many award winning computers at CES, laptops and desktops
and gaming machines, all powered by the latest Intel Core
Ultra series two processors. To tell us more about highlights
(28:01):
from CES, including how aipcs are getting smarter and some
automotive news, we're joined by Asthma Azis. She's marketing director
for the Americas at Intel. Welcome back to the show, Asthma.
Great to chat with you again.
Speaker 6 (28:13):
Thanks, Mark, the pleasure is all mine.
Speaker 2 (28:15):
Intel had a great booth on top of the Venetian
Expo there, So how is your CS well.
Speaker 7 (28:20):
CS twenty twenty five has been phenomenal, Mark, As you said,
the energy on ground was electric, and then for me personally,
it's always exciting to be part of an event with
the most innovative minds in the world kind of converge
to showcase the future of tech and for Intel this
year we have had particularly special moments as we unveild
the groundbreaking advancements in AI powered PC, automotive technology and
(28:44):
so much more, really setting a tone for the exciting
year ahead that we're expecting to have.
Speaker 2 (28:49):
All right, great, So with that in mind, I'd love
to talk about CES highlights from your vantage point. Where
would you like to start? I know we'll get to
automotive at some point, but how about LA tops and desktops.
What's new that our listeners should know about?
Speaker 7 (29:03):
Absolutely, let's dive into laptops and desktops. In my opinion,
Mark twenty twenty five couldn't have started better and at
CS this month, Intel unveiled the new additions to our
Intel Core Ultra processor family.
Speaker 6 (29:16):
This launch sets a new.
Speaker 7 (29:18):
Benchmark for innovation, really empowering work play and creativity, mark
like never before, and I would want to just unpack
a little bit and double click into what it means
for different users. So let's say for businesses, we announced
the Intel Core Ultra two hundred V series and now
professionals have AI tools at their fingertips to supercharge productivity.
(29:42):
This paired with Intel Vpro technology and enhanced by Microsoft
Copilot Plus experience, it's truly a game changer mark for
the enterprise. It and together they offer seamless, secure remote
work environment and deliver a robust platform for modern workplace.
Is right now for our gamers and creators. You know
(30:03):
that we announce the Intel Core Ultra H and HX series.
Speaker 6 (30:07):
This brings serious.
Speaker 7 (30:08):
Power with up to twenty four cores and integrated Intel
OUR graphics for ultra thin devices that do not compromise
on performance, which we know is super important for this
audience and lastly for our everyday users. The Intel Core
Ultra two hundred U series brings the perfect balance of
performance and power efficiency, featuring up to twenty four platform
(30:33):
tops mark and Intel XE LPG graphics for seamless multitasking
and entertainment on the goal.
Speaker 2 (30:40):
All right, So, just because I like to explain what
these phrases mean, you know, like terra flops and cores
and it can make your head spin. Essentially, we're talking
more power to get more done in less time on
thin devices that also excel in the battery department, so
there's no trade offs. With the help of AI and
your process us our family.
Speaker 6 (31:00):
You're spot on Maine.
Speaker 2 (31:01):
Okay, awesome. I just you know, I try to break
down GeekSpeak into street speak on this program. But yeah,
something for everyone, whether you're using computers for productivity's sake,
Something for content creators like yours truly who shoots video
in the field and edits it on the fly, and
I like how you said, let's double click through some
of these clever as well as something for gamers and
other entertainment seekers, those who like to stream video, and
(31:23):
even every day folks. So how would you say? Then? Overall, asthma,
these PCs will help shape the future of technology.
Speaker 7 (31:30):
Mark, This is an excellent question, and that's the one
that is on everybody's mind. So AI powered PCs represent
a paradigm shift in computing. So by embedding AI directly
into the processes, these devices can now automate and personalized
user experience, right, something that's super important, such as real
time transcription, photo editing, boost productivity like you were mentioning,
(31:52):
which is super important for our commercial users or the
business people with features like intelligent noise suppression predictive management. Also,
these aipcs are enabling entirely mark new capabilities like real
time language translation, immersive virtual collaboration. I can mark go
on and on, But in a nutshell, aipcs are making
(32:14):
technology more accessible, intuitive, and capable than ever before. It's
really shaping how we live and work in profound ways.
And this is mark just the beginning, with lots more
advancements to come.
Speaker 2 (32:27):
I compare buying a computer to buying clothes for kids.
Try to go a little bit bigger than you need
to today to grow into it so you don't have
to replace that laptop or desktop so fast. You know,
try to go with a little bit more power and
performance and you think you need today in order to
future proof your investment.
Speaker 7 (32:43):
Absolutely, Mark, you know you need that little bit of
headroom because you know we've seen and research tells us,
our own experiences tell us the more somebody uses a device,
they get more mature on their usages and their requirements increase.
So you are absolutely right when you say, while buying
or choosing a device, like buying kids clothes, have a
little bit of that headcoom and future approve your investment.
Speaker 2 (33:06):
A few more minutes with asthma Azis from Intel. When
we return on check it out, We'll be right back.
Speaker 1 (33:12):
Follow Mark Saltzman on Facebook, on Twitter, on Instagram, listen
to check it out whenever you want.
Speaker 2 (33:27):
We are chatting with asthma Azis, marketing director for the
Americas at Intel. We're doing a bit of a POSTCEES
wrap up of some of the big news out of
the show from the Semiconductor giant and when can we
see these innovations available to us? And also how would
we know that it's an AI powered Intel processor inside
you mentioned like the H series and the V series,
(33:49):
the S series, So is there like a badge or
a sticker on for example, the laptop where you know
that it's the latest and greatest.
Speaker 6 (33:55):
Yeah, let me unpack your question. Mark.
Speaker 7 (33:57):
So, firstly you asked me about when will these be available?
So aipcs have been in the market since twenty twenty four. However,
the stuff that we you and I just spoke about,
many of these innovations will be hitting the market in
the first half of twenty twenty five with subsequent more launches.
And to ensure you're getting the AI powered PC, look
(34:20):
for devices featuring the Intel Core Ultra badge, So you're
looking for Intel Core Ultra badge or the latest Vpro
and EVO platforms. So these markers or these stickers as
you can call it, on the device signify cutting edge performance,
AI integration and energy efficiency.
Speaker 6 (34:39):
Another thing mark if.
Speaker 7 (34:40):
Somebody is buying in store, you know, look for retail
salespeople that have been trained by Intel share your requirements
and needs, and they should also be able to help you,
help direct you the right direction, or you can go
to Intel dot com and we've got these pc you know,
choosing options available where you can literally it's very intuitive.
(35:04):
You can plug in what you are looking for, it'll
ask you a couple of questions and then it can,
you know, sort of pull up different devices that match
your criteria. So we're really making this process easy for
our users.
Speaker 2 (35:18):
Just before CS, in fact, Asma, I saw you speak
at an event in Toronto. You were great, by the way.
I recall you sharing how many aipcs Intel already shipped
in twenty twenty four, I think just the end of
the year, in fact, do you recall that number? And
this is expected to be a big deal in twenty
twenty five as well, no doubt.
Speaker 7 (35:34):
Yes, Mark, firstie, thank you you're so kind. I know
we met at that event right before CS. And yes,
we've shipped over one point five million AI powered PCs
in twenty twenty four and the number is expected to
exponentially grow in twenty twenty five. And this reflects the
growing demand for smarter, more capable computing devices. Mark, I
(35:55):
want your listeners to know aipcs are not just a
trend there are transformative technology that's here to stay, and
we are leading the charge with all the innovations that
are happening in our workshop.
Speaker 2 (36:07):
Let's now pivot and talk automotive news out of CEES
and how Intel fits into all of this.
Speaker 7 (36:13):
Certainly, Intel's automotive presence at CS was centered around advancing autonomy,
in activity and AI in vehicle.
Speaker 6 (36:21):
You know, Mark, our mobile.
Speaker 7 (36:22):
Eye technology continues to lead the charge with innovations that
enhance the safety and enable smart driving experience. I believe
two very important vectors. And I hope you were able
to visit our demo on the show floor where we
showcase solutions that integrate seamlessly into the vehicle ecosystem so
(36:43):
that in turn is delivering real time data analysis, intelligent navigation,
and predictive capabilities. This positions Intel as a critical enabler
of the smart and autonomous vehicles of the future.
Speaker 2 (36:58):
Awesome. And then before we wrap up ASTHMA, any other
key innovations or announcements from Intel at CES that we've.
Speaker 7 (37:06):
Missed, Certainly, Mark, I think another standout was the announcement
dot Panther Link, which is a successor to our current
lunar like processors and the one I'm particularly excited about
because this is the first product on our Intel eighteen
a process set.
Speaker 6 (37:21):
To launch in late twenty twenty five.
Speaker 7 (37:23):
We also revealed advancements in edge computing with new processors.
Speaker 2 (37:27):
All right, awesome, And of course edge computing is often
a business term. It's a device that is at or
near the network edge, if you will. Instead of sending
it to a cloud server, it's done more locally and
it's faster as a result, and reduced latency and more secure. Finally, ASTHMA,
where can we get more info?
Speaker 7 (37:46):
For sure find all the latest updates and detailed announcements
on Intel dot com. We'll also be sharing mark more
insights behind the scene content throughout the year on our
social media platforms. You know that we are available on
Facebook x so give us a follow and stay tuned
and let's get on this exciting journey together.
Speaker 2 (38:07):
And you're a great follow on LinkedIn as well. By
the way, you've got some great posts and articles that
you that you share in, images from Intel events around
the world as well as ima. Always great chatting with you.
Thank you so much for taking the time, especially it's
a very busy time for Intel coming out of cees
and kicking off twenty twenty five. Thanks again for everything.
Speaker 6 (38:25):
Thank you Mark, likewise, always a pleasure to talk to you.
Speaker 2 (38:28):
All right to you. Well. That wraps up another episode
of Teck it Out. Speaking of laptops, I usually end
the show by reminding you to back up your files
on a regular basis, just in case something happens. I've
received some emails this week from very upset listeners. In
one instance, the laptop just would not turn on and
they didn't pack things up. So I always trust sand
Disk and Western Digital Drives very reliable for local offline
(38:52):
storage that does not require a monthly subscription. Westerndigital dot
com or SanDisk dot com has more. Thanks again for
tuning in everyone, Looking forward to catching up with you
next time for another new episode of Tack It Out.
