Main idea: When we seek only self, we are not seeking God. 

Righteous rebellion is necessary in opposition of corruption (3:1-6). 

Conceit leads to bad decisions (3:7-11).

Esther II: Chosen
Esther 2:1-23

Main idea: God works in all circumstances, good or bad. 

God worked through the summoning of prospective brides for Xerxes (2:1-14). 

God hid Esther’s identity and her relation to Mordecai (2:15-18). 

God gave both Esther and Mordecai favor with the king (2:19-23). 

Esther may have been chosen by Xerxes, but she was first chosen by God.

Esther 1:1-22

Main idea: The events of this world are in God’s hands. 

Great power is wielded by man, but true power only comes from God (1:1-9). 

Even the most trivial of events can have a tremendous impact (1:10-12). 

Fear leads us to make ungodly decisions (1:13-18). 

Rebellion is appropriate when it is in opposition to sin (1:19-22).
