I'm your host, Jim Riley, and I hope you enjoyed
(00:32):
these interviews as much as I do. I believe that
everyone has an important message worth hearing. Hello and welcome
to the Yes Entrepreneurs Podcast. Jim Riley here with Rod Koontz.
Speaker 2 (00:45):
How you doing, Bud, Jim? As always, I'm fantastic.
Speaker 1 (00:50):
Things are heating up in the Yes Entrepreneur community. Calls
on Tuesdays twelve thirty Tuesdays, Montana standard time free call
jump in if you haven't already. If you have, great
good to have you there. But this last week, Rod,
we had NFL legend Kyle Turley there is promoting some
(01:10):
of the work that he's doing in cannabis for athletes,
NFL athletes working with DC and the Cannabis Coalition, which
is awesome. We had Todd talking about his wine project.
We had Red Shuit talking about real estate. We had
Alex talking about racing, like what are an eclectic mix
of people. We had a painter but then life coach
(01:31):
in there, child development business in there. It is really
awesome a bunch.
Speaker 2 (01:39):
Yeah, it's like, I don't know, it's one of those
things you walk if you're just walking down the street
and you think, wow, what do those people do? All right?
Instead of just looking at there's people, there's warm bodies.
Those people all have a dream and a vision and
businesses and interests and they're affiliated and nected, and you
(02:01):
know it, it gets us looking at people instead of
just well, here's someone on your Facebook page, here's another member,
here's another whatever. These are real, live bodies with dreams
and stories and families, and yeah, it's awesome to make
that personal connection with people.
Speaker 1 (02:19):
Well, and what's fun about it is that we're there
for the for a common purpose, right, so our overarching
messages faith, family, and business. So you know, whatever your
needs are, come okay, whether that's hey, can somebody pray
for me today? Or hey, I need to sell this
house it's been on the market too long. It was
kind of cool. A couple other people. Richard showed up.
(02:41):
He does screenprinting and hat embroidering and stuff like that.
Richard is one of the top in the country. In
the country, which is crazy, right, everybody has a skill
set and you have something like that, you know he's
in there offering his services or collaboration. And Heidi was
in there, who's of course been a member of YES
(03:02):
for a really long time. She is not only a
coach for fitness. She does do some life coaching in
a specific arena, but now she has a real estate license.
And then we had Coben who's eighteen, Like, hey man,
he says, I want to flip homes. I want to invest.
So I connected him to red Suit and who knows,
you're never too young to start, and I just loved
(03:22):
his passion. He also put in there is I want
to detail private jets. I was like, cool, somebody's got
to do it, so absolutely. Anyways, I just you know,
things are on fire. I'm loving it. The community calls
it's an extension of what we do or what we've
been doing with YES, our Young Entrepreneur Syndicate in the past,
(03:43):
we've converted over to YES Entrepreneurs to be a little
bit more expansive, but it's been a lot of fun
and I'm looking forward to launching alex Hermosey's School platform
for the community, so coming soon as you you know, Rod,
We've been talking about that this morning already, So coming soon.
Stay tuned. If you need to know how to get
(04:05):
a hold of these calls or anything, Rod, dm him
social media. You can DM me on social media. We
are posting up to and leading up to the event.
I'll put it in the show notes as well. There's
a QR code our zoom call jump in. So anyways,
it's kind of a commercial, but not really because I'm
so excited about it.
Speaker 2 (04:23):
Well, it's it's never a commercial when you're just talking
about real life, right, We're not selling anything, We're giving
it away. It's free community, this is this is free,
this is free information. Get in and connect.
Speaker 1 (04:35):
I just want people to win. And it's funny because
on Monday I was out in the community and I
had three different conversations with people looking for services. You know,
just hey, do you know anybody that's in the tree service.
I got a tree falling down in my backyard and
I was thinking about, like no, and then my Buddy's like, yeah,
I got a tree guy. I'm like, oh, I know
him too, right, you're solving people's problems, yes, exactly. And
(05:01):
whether that's just for simply helping them or there's a
business opportunity there, who knows. But helping solve one another's
problems is growing community. And that's what this call is about.
And by the way, your opportunity, you know, to grow
and reach beyond the borders of your own city. You know,
we're kind of in rural Montana, but we got guys
on the call from Florida, New York, Chicago, like southern Virginia,
(05:27):
like all over the place. I talk about, you know,
taking borders away there you go expand your business. So
I don't know, I'm fired.
Speaker 2 (05:34):
Up well, And you know, the neat thing about that
is we we are dealing with people literally across the country,
and we've had Canada as well, and everyone has the
same issues. Yeah right, it when it comes down to it,
everyone has the same problems. They have the same fears
and the same stumbling blocks, and you know, other people
(05:56):
can help. Yeah, we can help. And it's it's good
to know you're not alone.
Speaker 1 (06:02):
Well, and I don't want to over deliberate on this,
although I'm excited about it is something new and it
is like where he suggested free for people to get
involved with. At the end of the day, we want
more time with our family. We want to be able
to pay bills. I mean, when you really make it raw, right,
I want to be with my family more or time off,
(06:24):
and I want to pay my bills. I don't want
to stress anymore. You know what does that look like?
And so as my example on the call on Tuesday
was like, hey, my need I need a videographer. I
have a five hundred dollars budget. Does anybody know a
video guy? Send them to me. I'm willing to pay
somebody right now, five hundred dollars to do video projects. Right,
So that's me offering financial reward for services. That's somebody
(06:49):
else hopefully getting paid to help pay their bills.
Speaker 2 (06:53):
You know.
Speaker 1 (06:53):
And what I hope to see as this group grows,
we get a lot more of that.
Speaker 2 (06:58):
Right.
Speaker 1 (06:58):
My want is, yeah, I need a tree guy. Who's
the tree guy? Right, Let's put money in each other's
pockets through our community and build that up, right. And
so when you talk about whatever our needs at the
end of the day. I mind more time with my
family and not have to worry about, you know, paying bills. Now,
granted that's not always my everyday worry, but here we are.
Speaker 2 (07:21):
We're here to help them serve absolutely. Yeah, that's kind
of funny because last week on our call, we talked
about take the vacation. Yeah, right, and that's what's that about.
That's about more time and if you've already earned it,
it's not costing you anything to take it, so take it.
You know, let's find you the time. And by the way,
(07:41):
we did that call last week, Jim and I took
this week off.
Speaker 1 (07:46):
Good job.
Speaker 2 (07:49):
Not that I haven't been busy with lots of other stuff,
but you know, it's just one thing off the plate.
It's like, you know, yeah, I can take time away.
I don't need to do this.
Speaker 1 (07:58):
I hope the guy that I did the show for
that I got the topic from, actually put in for
his vacation time. And you know, just going back to
this community, using my own personal example, like real estate,
if I want to take some vacation, I got a
bunch of deals going. I need to know that I've
got somebody that can cover for me while I'm gone.
(08:19):
Within this community, there's other agents. There's a lot of
different business in there, but there's other agents to be like, hey,
as I build my relationship with you, Rachel in this case,
like hey, I want to take a vacation, let's collaborate.
We are in this for the common and why don't
you cover for me while I'm gone? And by the way,
I'll pay you for it.
Speaker 2 (08:38):
Right.
Speaker 1 (08:38):
So, anyways, this community is going to expand your reach.
So let me get to the topic, and that is
simplify the invitation. Simplify the invitation. Now, the reason why
this came became a topic it actually had to do
(08:59):
with these calls is my invitation on the call was
come on the call, bring your wants, needs and give back.
Okay for me, the way that my business mind thinks,
I was like, okay, well my wants or I need
a video guy? My needs are I need to sell
this house. And my give back is I'm going to
(09:19):
commit to giving hosting these calls indefinitely, right, what are
your wants and needs and give backs? And this person like,
well I kind of glazed over, like my mind doesn't
work that way. What do you mean?
Speaker 2 (09:32):
Right?
Speaker 1 (09:33):
And so what that comes down to is simplifying the
invitation to participate. Okay, and this is across the board
in business. Right when you look at UH I just
transfer transferred over to the real brokerage. And one of
(09:54):
the things I love about them is that they have
so many resources, so many tools, so many opportunities. They
have eight revenue streams. You would think this is real estate.
There's one sell a house to get paid. No, there's
eight revenue streams. I wish they had one video that
was maybe ten minutes long that simplified the invitation to
(10:16):
come over, and they might, but there's so many videos.
I haven't found it yet. Right, So applying that to
just about anything else you're doing, Rod, you have made
a good life out of multi level marketing businesses, right, Yes,
I would guess that some are overly simple to explain.
This is what we sell, this is how it works.
(10:37):
And then some required the whole two hour dinner that
you invited them over, Like let me tell you about this, right,
I don't know, but you know, does this make sense?
Can we simplify the invitation and have you dealt with
overly complicated invitations?
Speaker 2 (10:51):
Well? Absolutely so. First I'll give it to you this way.
Do you want the cliff notes version or do you
want the PhD program right? Because a lot of people
just want to know how it works, right, They don't
need the details. That's number one. So figure out how
much information you need to take the next step, don't
(11:13):
overcomplicate it because if you download all your information at
once on somebody, they're gonna say, there's no way I
could ever remember all that. I can't see myself doing it. Yeah, right,
So you have to keep it simple. But know the
audience and know their aptitude, and they're hunger for knowledge
because if you overwhelm them, you're not doing them any favors.
(11:37):
So start with the small bites and say does that
make sense? Do you need more? And how much information
do you need to actually get started versus to be
an expert in your field. And it's funny you mentioned
this because you referred to somebody to me and I
sent them a long text. I sent this person back
(11:57):
a long text and there's probably more information than you.
But ultimately what it comes down to is you have
to become the expert in whatever, especially in multi level marketing,
you need to be the expert in that field. In
other words, you need to understand. You were just talking
about real I would love to see those eight streams
(12:19):
of income potential because most multi levels have multiple income
streams available and a lot of people don't even know that.
But when you become an expert in it, and I'll
tell you how you become an expert in it, you
engage in it, and when you start getting checks, you say,
where did that come from? Because that's how I learned.
It's like, where did this extra money come from. It's
(12:40):
like I had to go back to the marketing plan
and say, oh yeah, I hit this particular level and
I got a bonus, and it's like wohoo. You know,
and all of a sudden, when you're engaged in doing it,
you learn better and it leaves an impact. And then
you can share with people say, I didn't even know
how this worked and I got paid right, And if
I could do that not knowing, imagine what you can
(13:02):
do with some knowledge, with some coaching, with some training.
Oh my gosh, you know, I can help you with
saving time and the frustration of not knowing. And do
you need to know? No, you don't need to know everything.
You need to know enough. And that's that fine line
that finesse knowing what's enough for that person at that
(13:24):
point in time, that point in their growth, that point
in their career. But make it fun, make learning fun.
Speaker 1 (13:31):
You've you've opened Pandora's box unintentionally, and that's the other
side of simplifying. Yeah, the other side of simplifying the invitation, right,
So I think the call out here is if you're
in leadership, are in anything that you're inviting people, right,
the invitation to understand, like you said, great, point your
(13:52):
audience and make it as simple as possible so that
they can they can move forward on that. But the
Pandora boxes on the other side, I just I just
had this flashback. When I worked for in and out Burger,
I receive as a manager, I received four different paychecks,
and so they had a program like, here's your salary.
(14:14):
That's one paycheck. Here's your bonus based on profitability of
the store. That's the second paycheck. Oh, by the way,
they were all different colors. Oh fun intentionally, No, it
was fun right. Well, then you got a paycheck for
a unit, you know, products sold up over last year,
which was a third paycheck, and then a fourth one
(14:36):
I think was similar to upover last year whatever. But
when I got my first random colored paycheck, I'm like,
what is this for?
Speaker 2 (14:45):
Right?
Speaker 1 (14:45):
And then when you understand it and you drill into that, well,
guess what. I got those paychecks every month? I got
all four every month, you know, And so understanding what
the invitation was was important for me, you know, somebody involved.
So to your point, you know in MLM are certainly
at real with eight different revenue streams. Hey, we should
(15:06):
be digging into what are those revenue streams so that
we could take advantage of the earlier And that's the
that's the other thing that you said, like, had I known,
I might have been chasing this sooner.
Speaker 2 (15:17):
Yes, well, and I went down the rabbit hole. I'm
you know how I operate mentally, right, We've worked together
long enough. But when when I was in multi level
marketing and active in it, not only did I make
myself an expert in my company's compensation plan, I literally
analyzed and blueprinted other companies marketing plans because I wanted
(15:42):
to if someone came up and they said, oh, no,
somebody approached me with this other one and it sounds better,
and blah blah blah, I knew, I could pull it
out and say, look, this is the shortcoming to what
they're doing, and this is how my compensation plan overlays
on that one. So there are levels of I don't
know of knowledge, do you need it? Know? Did I
(16:03):
need it? It made me successful to know, right, So
I was constantly learning. I had a binder full of
other companies marketing plans, and if somebody came to me,
i'd just flip it open to that section, pull it
up and say, oh, yeah, I've looked at their marketing plan.
I've looked at their compensation plan, and let me show
you what I don't like about it. I'll tell you
what I like about it and what I don't like
(16:24):
about it. So there are degrees of knowledge when it
comes to simplifying. That was to me, that's a simple strategy, right,
know your enemy, right, know your competition. That's simple. But
when you get into it, you can get into the weeds.
But how far do you need to go? You don't
always have to go deep.
Speaker 1 (16:43):
I want to take this a step further. Sometimes the
invitation is the invitation to buy something. Okay, it's not
literally invitation to join a company or to purchase or
not purchase. That's where I'm going with it. But you know,
the invitation goes beyond just what you might think of
any invitation, the invitation to buy your product. And simplifying that,
(17:03):
I'm going to use one of our YES members, Chris Moller,
as an example. He has if you want to follow
these Mollar design m O E L L E R
D E Z I g N and it says, watches
and precious metals are our passion. Take time to take
it to the next level. Now, Chris's invitation is about
(17:26):
precious metals and watches. The watches are pretty clear and simple,
like he'll post up watches like, hey, this is available.
It's the precious metals that I want to hone in
on as an example. When you think precious metals, you
think silver and gold is what we've always seen it
shiny bars or shiny little pieces. Yes, and and by
(17:48):
the way, this isn't a critique on Chris, but I
do want to make this very clear. I wasn't quite
sure what to put you know, how I felt about
Chris's work because when I looked at his silver and
metal projects, they look like pirate booty. You know, pirate
coins and little statues and stuff like that. I was like,
(18:09):
is that even silver? Or is that gold? Or what
is that? Right? So his invitation for me to purchase
wasn't clear or simple enough until I talked to Chris,
and then I dug into his website and it's like, hey,
I love taking these typical shiny bar square and turning
it into something that's collectible. And by the way, I
(18:30):
have a passion for pirates and pirate ships and all
those types of things. Right, So he's turning these silver
bars into something that he's passionate about. And so in
his case, simplifying what his message is, right, and that
could be turning, you know, simple into something he's passionate
about however you want. You know, I'm not going to
create his marketing plan here on the show. But once
(18:51):
I understood that, also is like, oh, now I see
where his customer base is. Now I see where the
attraction is if this is your thing.
Speaker 2 (19:01):
Right, So, and there are so many cool things about
what Chris does. And the other branch of that, of
course is redneck watches, which is, yeah, Chris's other business.
But with the silver You're right to be clear, and
I didn't understand it either. But once I did, the
light bulb went on, and it's like anyone can own
you know, silver bars, you know, or you know, coup
(19:24):
grants or whatever however you want to if you're collecting
gold or silver. But the value in it is in
the purity and the weight. And if that doesn't change, now,
all of a sudden, you've got a third category of value,
which is art, art, right, or function? You know, he
makes pistol grips out of pure silver, right. And if
someone comes to your house to steal something and it
(19:46):
just looks like it's it's a piece of art that
they don't know anything about, they're going to leave it behind,
not knowing that it's, you know, worth thirty thousand dollars
in silver, right, it looks like a statue or something.
So yeah, it's so creative. And I've not seen anyone
do what Chris does.
Speaker 1 (20:07):
Which is pretty cool. And so in this case, we're
talking about simplifying the invitation to purchase a product from him.
So if that's who you are and what you do,
look at your product, look at how you're offering it,
and is it as simple as possible for people to
understand your mission vision and the value of buying that.
And if it's a service, same, why do you want
(20:31):
to get involved?
Speaker 2 (20:32):
Right?
Speaker 1 (20:33):
So I love the topic. I love drilling into how
do we make things easier for people to understand? How
do we grow our business? And I think sometimes simple
is better, simplify the invitation.
Speaker 2 (20:46):
So anyways, yeah, well here's here's a good example of
that too. That and I I will look at it. It's
the hook, right, simplify what's the hook? You know, if
you're fishing, the hook is what abs people, but it's
the lure that attracts it. So think about those two things.
What's your hook? Your hook should include the lure. Right
(21:09):
we always think of it's the hook. Well it's more
than that. It's the lure. So take a look at
movies that come out and look at the just the
movie poster. What is the tagline of that movie? Right?
That's that's where they're trying to give you a hook.
So here's this great, beautiful visual, whether it's Superman or whatever.
(21:29):
But what's he up to now? It's going to be
in that that hook, Right, there's the lure. So start
paying attention to other people's lures and their hooks and
see how you can adapt that simplified process and put
it into your your company's use. You know, so learn
(21:50):
from other people. It's just they're out there everywhere, and
the big companies specialize in it. They hire people like
our partner Rachel to put it together for them. Right,
So you can become an expert in all of these things,
and well maybe not even an expert. You can you
can become highly functional and on your road to being
(22:12):
an expert just by watching what other people do, paying
attention to it, and figuring out how you can adapt
those things into your own business. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (22:20):
Good, good point. Well we'll wrap on the simplify the invitation.
A couple of tidbits. Takeaway is we are August seventh,
so we're basically on the tail end of summer. I know,
some school districts in other states are already starting school,
so kids are going back to school. Here's my tidbit.
Our thought for the day is start. You know, I
(22:42):
believe in ninety day increments, So what you're doing now
you'll see the results of in ninety days. So that's
putting you late October early November, depending on when you're starting.
So you know, here we are. That puts you towards
the end of the year. So I want you to
start thinking about what you're doing today to set you
up for a a really good fourth quarter finish. Look
(23:03):
at your financials, look at what you succeeded at where
you can push a little bit harder. How are you
going to achieve those numbers to have a great fourth
quarter finish? And by the way, in the very back
of your mind, you really should be thinking about what
your twenty twenty six goals are so that you can
start manifesting that come October. You better be working on
twenty twenty six goals and kind of writing out that
(23:25):
game plan so that January one you hit the ground
running in your business and personal life. I'm hoping that
you put some physical fitness in there. This month is
a great month to start seventy five hard. You'll roll
into the holiday filling the best you've ever felt healthy
and without sugar or alcohol for seventy five days, and
(23:47):
so you can splurge a little bit by the time
Christmas kits here. So anyways, that's where my mind is headed.
Ninety day increments. What does that look like for me
in October and the fourth quarter and what am I
manifesting for twenty twenty six? So ride any closing thoughts.
Speaker 2 (24:03):
Yeah, just remember how you end one thing is how
you begin another. So how are you ending this week?
Because if you're ending it on a negative, a downer note,
can't wait to get out of here, which I had
more time off, is how you're going to start the
next week. So start start moving yourself into the cycle
of positivity. Watch what comes out of your mouth, the
(24:25):
words you say, the things you're doing, be positive. End
your week positive, and you're going to begin next week
positive as well.
Speaker 1 (24:32):
Awesome, Hey, great way to do that. Tuesday, twelve thirty,
Montana Standard Time. Jump in on the community call. It's free,
bring your needs once and give backs if you got
it all right, Rod, good to see you, thanks for
the show.
Speaker 2 (24:46):
Good to see you, Jim. You bet next time,
