for this week, and thank you Mondays for providing us
with more news to talk about because that went down,
oh yeah, big time. It was a good day. Good
day around the.

Speaker 3 (02:11):
News world of sports. Busy Busy Tuesdays are the worst
but it sucks. Yeah, Busy mondays to the best.

Speaker 2 (02:20):
Yeah, because wasn't it the Tuesday that the Wastlon trade
went down or was that like Wednesday morning one of
the I think, yeah, one or the other.

Speaker 3 (02:29):
And we're like, bro because Wednesday affiliation of the Wednesday
and other affiliation of the nights playing that's national so
probably too, yeah, Niagara affiliation. But yeah I could great mood.

Speaker 2 (02:46):
That was last week tran and yeah, he's like time
Brady Watson lighting it up for the London Nights right now.
That is not one of the headlines, by the way,
but yeah, yeah, very much so. But o J head
lines made Dustin Brown. His number is gonna go to
the rafters at the Sleeman Center and pretty cool giveaway.
So if you've got tickets to that game, get there

(03:07):
early because it is gonna be pretty sweet.

Speaker 3 (03:10):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (03:10):
Well, we'll get into that once we chat about that.
Jamickee reaches three hundredth win as an ohl head coach.

Speaker 3 (03:17):
Of course, that is coaching.

Speaker 2 (03:18):
The Kitchen Rangers and now the first to Hamilton Bulldogs
for a couple of years and now for the last
two plus years it's been the Brandford Bulldogs. Uh So
we'll touch on that, and we've got some awesome audio
for you.

Speaker 3 (03:29):
Uh for that.

Speaker 2 (03:31):
Colin Ward uh and Danny Brier, Philadelphia Warriers general manager,
former teammate of Jmickee with the with the Buffalo Sabers
Uh gracious to give call in his time and and
chat about Jamickee. This is during the game against Ottawa,
so he didn't yet have his three hundredth win. It

(03:51):
was loading, but uh yeah, uh, it's about five minutes
or so. I believe four and a half five minutes
or so that with Danny Brier, Hey numbers that a
boy love it interview. Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, that'll
be that'll be a cool one. And now Colin Ward
can just be the casual guy that walks past Dannyburgy.

Speaker 3 (04:13):
Hey Danny, how's it going?

Speaker 2 (04:14):
Like that wave and the and the hey Danny, what's up?
Colin Ward with Daniel Brere when.

Speaker 3 (04:21):
When he left he said my name, he knew my name,
and I was like, this is pretty cool. I'm I'm
out of my lane right now. I gotta get back
in it. But that was pretty cool. That was sweet.
My uh, my head was the size of the Canada
Life Place, one of the biggest arenas in the Entio
Hockey League. That's how big my head was. It would

(04:42):
be cool. No, And honestly, the best part was how
close Jay came to that job in Philadelphia, Like, yeah,
that's pretty cool, Like how close it was. Then obviously
a teammate in Buffalo. I know, Brandon, you're gonna love
that Buffalo saber talk. But the I think that that's
pretty cool that he was there for that. And I mean,

(05:04):
the Bulldogs didn't play good in the third period. They
almost deserve to lose that times in the game, so
got lucky. It wasn't a future interview next week's show
or a week after wherever he got his next win
type interview. But no, it's nice. We got to air
it right away and nicely got to chat with Jay
as well post game about it. Got sixteen minutes on
the Dogcast coming out this week sometime, so Bulldogs fans

(05:27):
go there to the Bulldogs Audio Network because that was
a big one sixteen minute post game about three hundred
wins with Jamickee. I think you went through all three
hundred of them, No kidding, he he He's been great,
So that's pretty cool to see three hundred wins fourth
fastest deduced to shell history.

Speaker 2 (05:44):
It's crazy, that's crazy.

Speaker 3 (05:47):
And he did got a long ways to go. Ryan Keilray,
he knew him.

Speaker 2 (05:53):
Yeah yeah, So we'll we'll get into that. And well,
we'll get into that in a few minutes here. I
mean Niagara and Oustua hookup on a trade. Matthew Humphreys
heading to Oshaua with a pick and two picks coming
back to Niagara. So we'll we'll touch on that. Players
of the week we're announced on Monday. Also will we'll

(06:13):
discuss that. We've got some video as well. Barry En
sue how that one ended, and something happened between a
player and a fan that's unfortunate to see.

Speaker 3 (06:26):
And then the guy who.

Speaker 2 (06:27):
Scores the shootout winner complains about ice conditions. Never usually
Usually it's a situation where it like bounces off his
stick or takes a weird hop on like a rut
in the ice when he says something like that, but
he scored the winner and and still said it. But
I mean, if you're gonna listen to anybody, I would
hope you listen to your your home players and and

(06:47):
do something about it. So we'll we'll get to that
in segment number two. Remember in state jerseys around the
Ontario Hockey League. We're out on display this past weekend
the Kitchener Rangers once again hitting a home run with
with their jerseys. So we'll we'll have some pictures up
for everybody on the on the YouTube stream and encourage
everyone to go look at the Kitchener Rangers. One in particular,

(07:11):
Kingston front Nacs had their usual camo jerseys for for
Remembrance Day weekend. Branford Bulldogs did sort of a digit
camo type situation for their Remember and Stay jerseys. I'm
missing one. I'm drawing a blank. There were four teams
that we've got. I can't remember the fourth team, Kitchener
Sue Saint Marie, Sue Saint Marie. There we go, colin

(07:32):
Ward here to the rescue.

Speaker 3 (07:33):
So nice. Every team should do this, agreed, Every team
should do this absolutely Honestly. These jerseys that are printed,
they're so easy. It's not like it's stitched on there.
They're easy to make. It's not as much as a
stitch down.

Speaker 2 (07:49):
I think the Kitchener Rangers stitch there though. That one watched.

Speaker 3 (07:53):
Yeah, yeah, Kitcheners were speaking about other teams especially, I
know Branford for instance, was a pretty yeah. Yeah, but yeah
I wish that team. I wish that, you know, like
more teams did this as Yeah, it's a it's the
biggest game of the year regular season. In my opinion,
it is where a pobby.

Speaker 2 (08:13):
Yeah, it's not hard, absolutely, And and to round out
the show has always updated Ohl Power rankings here on
the Ohl and sixty podcast. Yeah, but before we do
get to any of the hockey, uh, there is a
reason we play for the Memorial Cup here in the
Canadian Hockey League. Tuesday, November eleventh is obviously when the
show is debuting, So that is what the show is for.
And just remember all the veterans that that we're way

(08:35):
more courageous than a lot of other people were to
head overseas and and fight the battle for for freedom
so that we can chat today here on the Ohl
and sixty podcast, so that we can go to the
grocery store without having to be worried about anyone coming
to attack us or anything. That's probably not actually correct,
but you know, back whether it be World War One,

(08:56):
world War two, whether you know, whatever battle they were
a part of and fought for I don't there's really
no way to repay them. And yeah, realistically, the least
you could do is is wear a poppy. You know,
I'm gonna have it on all month of November. It's
kind of in my opinion, I think it's stupid to
stop after eleven days. I mean, we don't start wearing

(09:17):
them till November anyways. But I feel like this is
worth a whole month, not just eleven days or one day.
So it'd be awesome to see more people do that.
We're the entire month of November. But but for sure, Tuesday,
November eleventh, the debut day of this show. Yeah, I mean,
I don't know what else we can say, but thank

(09:38):
you to everybody who fought and served.

Speaker 3 (09:41):
Man. Try to make try to take try to go
to a try to go out and do something in
your community, every community. Try to do so. I mean,
I'm here today because of the military. I have five
family members who have served in the military. I mean,
I know, I remember as a kid, the first thing
on your rememberance Day had to be going out somewhere,

(10:01):
had to be wearing a poppy. Come November first, Like,
just take a moment of your time, Just take a
moment out of out of your time. Nothing's too busy
during the day that we're supposed to be remembering those
for the reason why we're here. So it's a it's
a big day, and just take a moment of your
time if thanks to somebody, you know, go to the
go to a remembrance day ceremony, or go to like

(10:24):
the shopping center, and you know, thank someone who's handing
out poppies and give them whenever you can. You know,
it doesn't have to be million dollars, you know, like
whatever you can afford, just do it, like and just
say like thank you. You know, it's the simple things
in life. There's not enough people right now in the
world that just say thank you. There's not enough of that,

(10:45):
you know. Then that's the unfortunate part. And with these guys,
with everyone that's come before us and has done put
in all this effort that I ever put in for
for for what, you know, Like some of these people,
some of these heroes, you know, they put their lives
on the line. They have put their lives on the
line to do for us, you know, and it's unfortunate.

(11:10):
And I hope that people can say, uh, just go
say thank you, go to a ceremony or hey, where
a poppy. It's just take a moment out of your
day and just say thank you for those who've come
and serve for us.

Speaker 2 (11:23):
Yeah yeah, well said Colin. And I mean it's awesome
to also see all these remembering state crosswalks starting to
pop up.

Speaker 3 (11:29):
Also, those are big time. Keep those around.

Speaker 2 (11:32):
So where we are in Saint Catharines, it's portant to losey.
We call it kind of if anyone's in the kW
area and remembers Cambridge, you got Preston Galton Hespler. We're
kind of the Hespler. I think maybe I can't remember
which one is the smallest, Preston Galt Hespler.

Speaker 3 (11:50):
It doesn't really make it.

Speaker 2 (11:52):
But anyway, yeah yeah, Sosper is pretty small. Yeah yeah, yeah,
thoughts so we're probably more like that. But but right
across the street from where we are is the Port
dealuzy Cenotaph for statue for for Remembrance Day, they've got

(12:13):
the crosswalk painted with the soldiers red, red, white poppies
are thrown in there also, So to see more of
those pop up, I think it's pretty sweet. That's a
a really nice way to make crosswalks less boring than
just white stripes although good band, but but just white
stripes is a little boring on pavement. To add some

(12:33):
red in there and and to see a tribute to
the soldiers, that's pretty sweet.

Speaker 3 (12:37):
Yeah, that's unbelievable. Yeah, that's cool. It's nice when towns
do that and like cities do it. I mean, that's cool. Uh,
gotta give thanks, right, Like I say, Rememberance Day is
always going to be a touchy subject for me, Like yeah,
you know, it's one of those things where I'm not
here if it's not for my grandfather served back in

(12:57):
Hungry you know, like it's just to be like, it's
the biggest it's the biggest moment of the year. It's
one of the most underrated. It's not even underrated. It's
one of the most of my opinion, unappreciated holidays. It
should be a holiday. It should be bigger than what
it actually is. So that's just opinion.

Speaker 2 (13:16):
I'm gonna say it's it's it's day off of work
in school. Important time.

Speaker 3 (13:23):
Should be and I mean it's really cool to Like
when I was a kid, I got to go in
in the del High, Ontario in each business, each school
in the city of del high for wreath with like
remembrance and stuff on it. So I got to bring
up the wreath a couple of times in uh Dell High.

(13:44):
That's pretty cool. I don't think I went back to
school after either, so I think one of the teachers
I was playing hooky onya for a good read. But I, uh, yeah,
it's good enough. I could have been there in the
first placed, per I mean, I remember grade seven and eight.
We got to go to those We got to go
there as a whole class. We went there in high

(14:05):
school too, like you could go like they suggested you go.
But it was pretty cool. We did a lot of
people at the Indalla.

Speaker 2 (14:12):
Yeah. Quick, before we get to Dustin Brown. Here was
your school a Pittance of Time school? Or were you
Highway of Hero School? That video they play every single
morning on Remembrance Day there was like We're in the
grocery store that video for the Pittance of Time or
like the Highway of Hero Time hi Way four oh one?
All right, yeah, so right, yeah. The only reason I

(14:34):
thought of that question is I saw a video come up,
and you know, one of those nostalgia videos where it's
like Remembrance Day when we were a kid, and that
was the song that was.

Speaker 3 (14:41):
Playing in the video everyone in the gym and.

Speaker 2 (14:44):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, no, I had that. I had to
ask because I feel like every school is either one
or the other.

Speaker 3 (14:48):
I don't know. Yeah, And like anyone anyone listening did
your kids school? What's your Remembrance Day ceremony like? Unless
there's kids ement to school listening to us, which, hey,
all the best. I hope you're I hope you're learning.
Maybe I'll come in and teach your class one day,
but no, no, no, no, no, no, nobody wants that. No.

(15:09):
Oh yeah, what are you gonna teach them about the
history of del High history of the the del High
Ontario And we'll go over the Ohl trade.

Speaker 2 (15:21):
Book back when I wait, boy, I remember when we
only had one stop light.

Speaker 3 (15:26):
And five and that'll be me all right, yeah, yeah,
I wonder what the ceremonies are like doing elementary school.
Anyone that has a kid that's in elementary school or
even high school, let us know what the ceremonies are

(15:46):
like for your child. That's interesting to see, like what
the schools are like because when we were in when
I was in elementary school. It's like it was huge,
like it was cool. I hope it's I hope it is.

Speaker 2 (15:57):
Yeah, me too, Yeah, I hope it's still the same.
But I mean, we'll touch on to remember it's Jay
Day Jerseys a little bit later because it's it's good
enough for its own segment. But to Dustin Brown former
gwelf Storm, which, by the way, look at that jersey,
the Nike the Gulf Storm jersey. Those are solid. Honestly,
they gotta wear those. They wear those that night, No.
Number twenty seven night a second they should for twenty.

Speaker 3 (16:20):
Third, twenty third, twenty wear those twenty second Okay, they
gotta wear those. Yeah, I agree, absolutely.

Speaker 2 (16:27):
So the number thirty two for Dustin Brown is going
up to the rafters at the Sleeman Center, and you
can see if you're watching us on YouTube, you can
see his stats pop up. For anyone listening, we'll kind
of just go over it all for you. Is rookie
season two thousand and two thousand and one, Colin and.

Speaker 3 (16:42):
I were two years old.

Speaker 2 (16:44):
Twenty three goals, twenty two assists for forty five points,
fifty pims.

Speaker 3 (16:48):
Love that too.

Speaker 2 (16:50):
That was in fifty three games, sixty three games is
next year forty one goals, thirty two assists, total of
seventy three points. Pims go up to fifty six, and
then and then two three fifty eight games played, he
scored thirty four goals, added forty two assists for a
for an ohl career high seventy six points and eighty
nine penalty minutes. Colin Ward big fan of a player

(17:13):
that can do both of those.

Speaker 3 (17:17):
Bottom line, the stat line, that's why.

Speaker 2 (17:19):
Yeah, absolutely the hey and born in nineteen eighty four.

Speaker 3 (17:24):
Good year, good year.

Speaker 2 (17:25):
That's very shortly after the Tigers won the World Series
last time against the San Diego Padres.

Speaker 3 (17:30):
So it's a eighty four. Remember wasn't born I wasn't
born in ninety two or ninety three either. I'm not
talking about last week. Yeah, but Dustin Brown.

Speaker 2 (17:42):
He'll join Todd Bertuzzi, Jeff O'Neill, Ryan Callahan and the
late Paul Fenley having their number retired above the rafters
or to the rafters, above the rafters, that'd be on
the roof. Okay, yeah, English today, Hamilton back in the day,
man man, screw those banners. Sorry, not sorry, pretty much honestly. Yeah,

(18:09):
it was also a special weekend in Kitchener. They got, uh,
they got their level of excellence group started, action started.

Speaker 4 (18:20):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (18:20):
Pete de Borr was gifted his uh his level of
legacy honor as his ceremony took place this past weekend.

Speaker 3 (18:31):
Uh. Still crazy.

Speaker 2 (18:32):
I think it's been that long since he was a
coach of the of the Kitchener Rangers, right, you think
of all the NHL teams he's been in Florida, New Jersey,
San Jose, Vegas, Dallas, which also goes to show you
the life of an NHL head coach because New Jersey
Devils lost in the finals and then the next two

(18:52):
years out of the playoffs. Okay, you're fired. San Jose
Sharks round one, round two, round three. Next year, didn't
last the season, see ya, goes to Vegas, lost in
round three, lost in round three, didn't make the playoffs,
okay by Dallas, lost in round three, lost in round three,
lost in round three. Yeah, okay, by Dallas. Which is

(19:16):
crazy to think, but I mean when you look at
his time with the Kitchener Rangers, two championships for him
before that, obviously, you know he can't forget his time
with the Plymouth Whalers. Detroit Whalers Detroit Junior Red Wings
as an assistant. This guy spent a lot of time
in the junior ranks as a head coach before moving
on to the NHL, and for his tenure in Kitchener,
the you know, if you bring two championships to a city,

(19:38):
there's a really good chance you're gonna end up somewhere
in the rafters or along some sort of wall. And
for Pete de Bor, this is well deserved, you know,
much deserved and maybe maybe overdue. Oh eight last year
in Kitchener. But also he's had a job for the
last how many years and probably hasn't been available for
something like this, honestly not, So he's got some time. Yeah,

(20:02):
and being in the Western Conference soon in the NHL
since fourteen or since fifteen sixteen, has been in the
Western Conference. It's hard to get an off day in Ontario,
especially with the Bruins on Saturday night dismantling the Leafs.
Even though the Leafs get a power play with two
minutes left, it still was not enough to beat the
Boston Bruins.

Speaker 3 (20:20):
So it's nice that he was there. He's able to
the off day get his level of legacy and it's
pretin neat like Kitchener. I mean, they do everything right
in that organization. It's not surprise it and like I mean,
it's a tough Kitchener to me, is going to be
like what it's like when the Detroit Red Wings retire
Jersey numbers. It's gonna be hard because there's so much talent,

(20:42):
but there's so much tradition that comes with it, right, Yeah,
you have to be you have to be a complete
six out of five star instead of just a five
star person. It's the viebigging from the Kitchener Rangers organization.
And that's a big compliment I can give the Rangers.
They did the model of consistency in the league for
a long time and they do everything right. So it's
really cool. It's very well deserving National Hockey League too,

(21:07):
so close all of his team's naven Phil bad for
Dallas because they were so close to the top top two.

Speaker 2 (21:13):
Damn yeah no kidding a. So obviously you want to
get over the hump. You want to win a Stanley Cup.
But also it's coach took you to three Western Conference championships.
When's it on the players. But anyways, now looking up
for a trade. Another headline that came through on Monday,
Matthews a graphic?

Speaker 3 (21:33):
Is it London? I just wondering. BC is just shaking it.

Speaker 2 (21:39):
He probably walked away from the screen. BC's like, I'm done.
I'll be back in ten when you're ready for a break.

Speaker 3 (21:48):
Oh man, she does not approve of that. I apologize
and I got to recover from that. I just had to.
I had to make that joke the same thing.

Speaker 2 (22:00):
Probably, Yeah, Matthew Humphries goes to Ostawa for along with
Owen sound seventh and twenty twenty six. Niagara gets Brantford's
fourth and twenty twenty six and Sue seventh in two
thy and twenty eight. I mean, this is Niagara figuring
out their goaltending. I think this is something we had
discussed even before the season got started during training camp.

(22:20):
But the amount of goalies they had and your Malanco
hadn't come over yet, so you're thinking, okay, like, is
robertson back. You know what's going on with Humphries, is
the import coming over? You know what's going on with
your Malanco? So you know they essentially ran with three
and your Malanco unable to travel to the States for
games against Erie and in Michigan against Sagan and Flint.

(22:43):
So Humphries was the guy that would back up for
for Charlie Robertson, who would start in those American games
like we did see uh this past weekend in Erie. Now, Uh,
who's the backup if you have to go to Erie again?
I think there's one more trip to Erie. I could
be wrong, but and Oshawa gets another young goaltender. I mean,

(23:03):
it's still a team that's looking to regain assets this year.

Speaker 3 (23:08):
They're not going for it.

Speaker 2 (23:10):
Humphries is an OJ guy right now getting some regular minutes.
Well it was Robertson and your Malanca with the Niagara
Ice Dogs. So he goes to goes to Oshawa from
Niagara to get an opportunity as a general.

Speaker 3 (23:24):
Yeah, you know, And honestly, it balances out the picks.
Do you see the seventh swap. That's that's balancing out
the picks that for Oshawa standpoint, you might have multiple
picks in the seventh's trade that pick the Niagara. You
balance it out fourth round picks. A decent return, to
be honest, for a guy that played one game started
the year, played ten minutes, got pulled right in Brampton.

(23:46):
That's that's pretty good a fourth round pick in return.
In my opinion for Niagara, I don't think it's that
bad of a deal. I think for both sides. I mean,
with Oshawa, you cannot keep running a cholette every single game.
Grivell just hasn't played good enough this season for them.
His last one of his last starts, the Kingston game,

(24:07):
that was that wasn't a great out all so by
the looks of it. But Humphreys comes in, He's gonna
get the chance to play a little bit. Obviously, Oshawa
likes him. It's a low risk, high reward type of
deal for them. It's a good hockey trade for both
sides that you kind of see in situations like that.
I mean, for Humphries, if he's gonna be the third
guy at seventeen years old, you might as well the trade.

(24:29):
Like if you're Niagara, I don'tn't. I don't fault Niag
making this trade. I think it's a I think it's
a deal for both sides. And who cares about your
third goalie. You're not gonna play anyways. You all you
think like you're Niagar, You're not thinking he's gonna play anyway.
If he's playing well, then the year is over anyway,
So it doesn't really matter about the deal. They got
a fourth round pick for him. It gives them an

(24:52):
opportunity and I think it's a good hockey trade for
both sides.

Speaker 2 (24:55):
Yeah, which, by the way, the Niager Ice Dogs do
go to Eerie one more time this year, but not
until my fourteenth. So I would hope visa issues are
figured out with your Malenko and he can travel to
the United States.

Speaker 3 (25:07):
But we'll see.

Speaker 2 (25:07):
And for the people watching on YouTube, you can see
what the draft class in twenty twenty four looks like
for the Niagara Ice Dogs. Brady Wastlin, London, Max Creete London,
Nick Frasca, OJ, Matthew Humphries, Oshawa, Jacob McMahon, oh, J,
Charlie Atlas, Flint Slash.

Speaker 3 (25:29):
OJ, A lot of them.

Speaker 2 (25:32):
Now, this is obviously not a Frank Evila draft. But
that does not look very good to say, uh, to
say it nicely, that is not an awesome look that
a like you might as well have not even participate
in the twenty twenty four OHL Priority Selection.

Speaker 3 (25:53):
If NHL if NHL draft, if NHL GM head like that,
would they have a job? You give me answer anyone listening,
let us know the answer. That's that's that's what I
That's what I think of it. It it's unfortunate. I mean,
it's one of those things too, especially with Wotlon and Crete,

(26:16):
two guys that I don't think and this goes both ways.
It takes two to tango in a relationship. Relationships end
for a reason. It's takes two people to end a relationship,
not one. And I think that in that relationship, if
they weren't gonna be there, I don't think they got
the support they wanted now, so don't think they gave
enough to the organization as well. I'm just gonna say

(26:38):
it like that. I I I missed the days where
guys just didn't go to places to play and be
part of the solution. I missed those days so bad.
But it is what it is. I think both sides,
it takes two to tango. It's over with, but definitely
doesn't look great in the draft class. For sure. You
get a get you get a kid in you guys

(26:59):
do your part to keep them happy. You gotta do
your part to keep him developing. If you're the kid,
you get accept the development. If you don't, well, this
is what happens. But it takes two to tango. Niagara
mess that up dramatically. And I would say I'm leaning
toward the player's side on this, but it's unfortunate for
both sides. I mean it's embarrassing, right, It's embarrassing. It's

(27:21):
like guys leaving the maple leafe to win cups. It's
embarrassing for them, Like it's yeah for the Leafs, yeah yeah, yeah,
funny for us. Oh, it's great from the outside if
you're not a Leaf fan, but it's it's one of
those things, right, Like it's unfortunate. It's like how many
coaches of the Buffalo Sabers had Like it's yeah, it's

(27:41):
not great, it's bleak. I mean, people can laugh at
it all they want, but if it was your team
in the mix, I mean, it's embarrassing if if if
freaking hurts like well, and I mean we we've been
we've been harping on Niagara and giving them, giving them
crap for for having tough attendance. Yeah, give them some.

Speaker 2 (28:01):
I mean those fans are probably looking at that and
thinking that's probably going to London. We yeah, like, we
just lost a year of drafting. What big time? What
are we doing? What am I gonna go watch?

Speaker 3 (28:15):
Why would I get season tickets to a team when
I know my best player or my captain. Don't even
started on that one. We're not going there. He's gonna
get traded, you know, like, give me something, give me loyalty,
give it to the fans. Well, I'll finish up.

Speaker 2 (28:31):
The point on that is it's already hard enough to
buy a jersey customized because the players barely for long enough,
like you get them for two years minimum, five years massage.
So I mean, how can like You're gonna get a
Matthew Humphreys jersey at the start of the year, expecting
him to be a guy in the mix, and then
I know he got traded. It's like, oh, well then

(28:53):
third round pick is gone.

Speaker 3 (28:55):
Cool.

Speaker 2 (28:56):
Well that was a waste of two hundred and fifty bucks,
but probably more. I don't know how much jerseys are. Yeah,
so we'll move on from that. Jami Key, let's get
to more positive note. I guess you could say, uh,
Jamickee three hundred wins as an Ontario Hockey League coach,
he does it with two franchises with the Kitchen Rangers

(29:16):
and now with the Bulldogs organization. Two years in Hamilton,
two plus years now here in Brantford, and the Branford
Bulldogs have helped him get to it a little bit
quicker than usual. I would say, coming into the year,
you're like, Okay, he should be able to get that
by December. And then we're chatting about this after a

(29:36):
November ninth win because the Bulldogs have not brought lost
in regulation at fifteen to oh to three.

Speaker 3 (29:42):
One, So oh wow, God Holy But Jim.

Speaker 2 (29:53):
Jamie Key, the twentieth head coach in league history to
reach three hundred wins matches the legend Brian kill Ray
from the Ottawa sixty sevens, and funny enough he got
number three hundred against the Ottawa sixty sevens. Did Ja Mickee,
but but he matched him for the fourth fastest to
get to that, Mark Dale Hunter, Dick Todd, and well,
speaking of uh, the man Pete de Boor reached the

(30:15):
milestone in fewer games than than kill Ray and j Mickee.
So I mean, for for Jay, you know, the playing
days came to an end in the in the two thousands,
was an assistant and I should add it says assistant
on our screen for Niagara University. He was a volunteer assistant,
So I mean unless he was getting something under the table.
I've been in spots like that, not not coaching, but

(30:39):
but you you're down as a volunteer assistant. But you know,
j McKee got into coaching that way using connections at
Niagara University. Again, listen to the Dogcast if you want
to hear the full sixteen minute UH interview with j McKee.
Brian Smiley Colin Ward conducted that one on Sunday. But

(31:00):
you know, he moves on to Rochester as an assistant,
moves to Eerie as an assistant, moves to Kitchener as
an associate. I don't know what the difference is. Can
someone explain that to me? What's the difference?

Speaker 3 (31:12):
Assistant associately associate is usually like the coaching waiting at
a CUCH team. It's like Brian Hartlin at Ohio State
where they're the one below.

Speaker 2 (31:22):
Oh, the next guy that lose to Michigan four times
in a row.

Speaker 3 (31:24):
All right, no, no, no, they you better hope Michigan
don't lose this year. But I just associate is in
between the head coach and the assistant.

Speaker 2 (31:33):
All right, okay, I got you, and then of course
going on to be the head coach of the Kitchen Rangers. Okay,
I got you. Defense, I just I didn't see what
the huge difference was. There isn't obviously one, but enough
you see that you suspended.

Speaker 3 (31:50):
That's usually time it really comes in. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (31:53):
True, But but look at that year, specifically twenty seventeen eighteen,
which by the way, was the first year the Bold
won an OHL championship. Kitchen Rangers just had to get
past the Sue Greyhounds and it would have been Kitchener
Hamilton in the Ontario Hockey League Championship. And obviously the
Sue Greyhounds prevailed in that one. But what a heck
of a team Jamickee had that year for the Kitchen
Rangers forty three and twenty one record with four overtime losses.

Speaker 3 (32:17):
At it's a pretty good club. And then.

Speaker 2 (32:21):
You know, obviously he gets let go in the nineteen
twenty season and then comes to Hamilton out of the
pandemic and wins a championship. Now he had a very
talented roster, don't get me wrong, But you also have
to have the right man behind the ship and fifty one,
twelve and five not good enough apparently to win Head
Coach of the Year, but he won an Ohl Championship

(32:43):
and in his work, Bulldogs were the champions of the
champions in the Memorial Cup because they were the last
team with a championship standing before they lost to a
host that had a month and a half off and
changed head coaches. So the Bulldogs, you know, they're on
a run, hoping for another championship this year. Of course,

(33:04):
despite trading away all your veteran guys in twenty two
twenty three, still found a way to get thirty three
wins out of his Bulldogs before losing to Bury in
round one, making the playoffs first year in Branford, losing
to Ottawa and then making it to round two against Oshawa.
Yet last year and.

Speaker 3 (33:23):
In falling but still a division title.

Speaker 2 (33:25):
I mean, colin Ward, we we talked to Jay, not
on a daily basis, but on a fairly weekly basis,
sometimes two or three times a week, and you know
it just it really is an honor to be able
to talk with him postgame about the game, about his experience, coaching, playing,
you know, any any topic, really, you can ask him anything.
He's not great set you know, he's yeah, absolutely, Oh,

(33:48):
he loves.

Speaker 3 (33:49):
Saking the media. He's got a great fancy football team.
Oh yeah, you know.

Speaker 2 (33:57):
I still think of the story he always goes back
to about the trade deadline, and I'm sure he's gonna
bring it up again this year about him going from
Sudbury to Niagara and he was a young guy and
Niagara falls, I should say, and.

Speaker 3 (34:10):
And you know, moving on and and doing all that.

Speaker 2 (34:12):
But uh, and and Josh Brown knows a knows a
ton about this talking to him on a daily basis
when he was in Kitchener. But Jmickey just a just
a great dude. And and couldn't be happier for him.
And we know he's gonna get a shot in the NHL.
But but couldn't be happier for Jay one hundred.

Speaker 3 (34:29):
Percent echo that statement. He's he's great. I mean, nothing
bad to say about Jamie Kee. Jamie Key is awesome.
I mean he's the best storyteller too, and such a
classy like nothing bad to say about well Actay coach Jamickee,
that guy. I mean, there's nothing he can't do in
the league. He's a great person. He's one of the
best people in the OHL you can meet, and he's been.

(34:51):
He's incredible, And I mean we talked. We talked earlier
and coming up soon Danny Briere, former teammate of his.
It's no quick and it also worked out because of
Rick tal Bucket wasn't in the running in Philadelphia. Jamicke's
the head coach of the Philadelphia Flyers. That's how close
it was, which is which.

Speaker 2 (35:07):
Is amazing because we talked about him potentially going to
the AHL first, whether it be in Philly, whether it
be with the Ottawa or Philly, whether it be with
Lehigh Valley or is it just Lee Valley now one
or the other the phantoms Sick Logo by the way,
or or in Belleville with the Sens organization, having that
connection with Michael aanlou or Steve Steos. And then to
hear that he was in the running for a head

(35:28):
coaching job in the NHL, We're like WHOA, Like yes, well,
not saying you didn't deserve it for sure, but we
were having a conversation like, oh, yeah, he's headed to
the AHL first, and it's like, no, he was ready
to go to the next step and shows you how
much belief he has, not only from a former teammate
and Danny Briere, but just NHL executives in general.

Speaker 3 (35:47):
Yeah, and in Jay's EHL head coaching jobs almost a
PARAOHL the way if you're if you're an elite coach
in the OHL, it's a parallel job to the HL.
And I think for Jay he's put in his he
put in his time. If he has a good season
this year, if if they're successful with championships in Branford,

(36:08):
I mean, why not, like why not get the chance? Right?
And Mark Savard was a great coach and winsor but
it was a one and done, which was so weird
in my opinion to see how fast that ended and
how fast we rocketed up as an assistant. Like Yeah,
and Jay McKee won that series. That's why it's it's
all that has always shocked me in the back of

(36:30):
my mind. Two, I'm pumped for Jay to get the
opportunity at the CHL NDBUS game series. I'm very happy
about that opportunity for Jay. That's he he's deserved that,
he's so deserving of those chances. I mean, how he

(36:51):
hasn't coached in a Hockey Canada event since the Canada
Russia series is baffling to me. I cannot believe that
guy hasn't been able to be on a bench world
junior team. The guy like you look at the guy,
I mean, he could run you, he could run the
easy as an assistant coach. That's how That's how I'm impressed.
I am by Jamie Key. Maybe it's because we work

(37:14):
with him, but I you know, I like to ask
people on road game to the Bulldogs when it's like
working with your coach and every single person, and I
know we always have the conversation with Josh Brown. They
got a great one now in Kitchener as well, and
we talked all the time about Jamie Kee and Jet
like how great it is to work with Jay. I mean,

(37:35):
Jay's the best. He knows all about that as BC
picking up an iconic pitcher in Buffalo there. Yeah, that's
very real. I gotta print that off. Yeah, I gotta
print that show him. Got to get that sign. Maybe
we'll do a giveaway on the on the podcast as
signed Jamickee guard. But Jay Jay is great, like the

(37:58):
parson you talk to people around the league, how great
of a person Jay is and you ask, what is
it like working with your coach? And I go, We're
pretty lucky to have Jay, and then only, yeah, Jay's great.
Every single person says that how great it is to
talk to j mickee, And that's the best compliment you
can give him. He gets junior hockey. He's such a
good junior hockey coach. That's the one thing that I'm

(38:21):
interested in to see how much it translates to the
next level in the NHL, because Ja McKee so good
at communicating with junior hockey players. There's not a lot
like him. You look at Ja McKee on the bench
and you think that guy, that guy is pretty intimidating, Like,
you know, like he looks pretty intimidating to talk to,

(38:41):
Like it looks like he'd be a yeller. Ja mickee
hasn't yelled. He hasn't yelled at anyone yet in the
last three years in Bramford and he and I mean,
there's only been a couple occasions we've heard about in Hamilton.
But yeah, he's not a yeller. He's a he's a teacher.
He communicates. I have nothing bad to say about Jamie Key.
You watch the Branford Bulldogs play and you watch them live.

(39:04):
Look at Ja McKee, you never see him. He never
saw Oh there's a game fake, he said, loving this
right now. BC's loving the now. But uh assistant captain
those great Buffalo Saber teams. The Jerseys though, like Jane
McKee like, nothing bad to say about the guy. I
I can't wait to see what's next for Jay. But

(39:26):
he deserves any everything, especially that Easton Center energy stick.
You know what I last year when we were talking
to him at the Prospects the game, the NHL Prospects game,
there is doing another Michigan and at tenth and stuff,
like in a skate around there in the morning skate
and I like, he's a skilled guy. He's got some hands.

(39:46):
I asked him on Sunday after the game, if Owens,
Branford Bulldog defenseman, reminds him of himself at that age.
You know when Jay goes I got some points in junior.
Everybody got more points as Owen Bronz is walking to
the gym behind us. But hey, that's how that's Jamie Kee.

(40:07):
He like, if Jay's just the best. Nothing bad to
say about Jamickee at all. He's honest. You know the
other day after Thursday's game, the Bulldogs lost that game deservingly,
so I talked post came about how much of a
joke it is how they can't shoot the puck. I
don't think they can shoot. I don't know, I don't
think they know how to shoot the puk. Blah blah blah.

(40:28):
And Jay agreed. So it's pretty cool. But Jay gets
a game, great with media, uh, just great individual in
the entire hockey the best in the game. Nothing bad
to say about Jamie Kee. Yeah, yeah, and we'll we'll
hear right now what what former teammate Daniel Brere had
to say about Jamickee. So we'll get to that audio.

(40:48):
It's about five minutes or so.

Speaker 2 (40:50):
But here is what Philadelphia Flyers general manager Daniel Brere
I had to say about former teammate Jamie.

Speaker 3 (40:56):
Key wed former team in yours catching three hundred wins
the NHL's a head coach. Did you ever think j
Mickee would get to this moment?

Speaker 4 (41:05):
Well, I Jay always had an act for understanding the game.
He is part of the reason why he played so
long in the NHL. You know, he's a student of
the game. I had the chance to spend a little
bit of time with him in the off season, getting
to know his coaching philosophy. After spending time with him,
I can understand why he's he's doing so well.

Speaker 5 (41:25):
He's very impressive and really happy for him too.

Speaker 3 (41:29):
How for what you can say, how close was he
by all accounts he had an interview with you guys?
How close? How close was he and how impressive was
his interview for you?

Speaker 5 (41:39):
The interview was great, It was very impressive.

Speaker 4 (41:42):
You know, I think Jay's got a great chance of
being an NHL coach. Pretty convinced of that in the future.

Speaker 3 (41:50):
You know.

Speaker 4 (41:51):
On our end we had Rick talking in you know,
in line and when that worked out, obviously Rick was
our number one.

Speaker 5 (41:57):
Target, but but Jay was right there.

Speaker 4 (41:59):
We've really impressed by, you know, as philosophy and coaching
is approach, and then you see it here with the players.

Speaker 5 (42:07):
They play hard for him.

Speaker 3 (42:08):
How what is it now in a coach with a
younger generation. I know when you guys came up, you
had to play that hard, gritty styles though, but now
you guys on the third line that come up and
they're trying Michigan attempts. You watch the game to know
you guys on the third line trying a Michigan attempt.
What's the difference between coaching and how you treat your players,
But obviously without let them get to weigh with too much.

Speaker 4 (42:29):
Yeah, first of all, I think the players are probably
more talented than than we ever were in our time
when I played. It's really impressive the skill level that
the players show up with now. And as a coach,
you know, what's critical is making sure the players are
willing to play for you, They're willing to buy into
whatever you're selling. That's the toughest part as a coach

(42:50):
is getting every player on the roster moving in the
right direction. And Jay seems to have, you know, found
a way to get it done for himself.

Speaker 3 (42:59):
All Right, I gotta ask you a Bullock question. Are
you impressed with this Bulldogs team? What's your thoughts on
the Bulldogs right now? Well?

Speaker 4 (43:05):
I can't say too much obviously, but my friend coaches
for for that team, so I love watching him lay
and they've had an impressive start there.

Speaker 5 (43:15):
They looked like they could be a dangerous team in the.

Speaker 4 (43:18):
Second half of the year and then hopefully for the
OHL Championship.

Speaker 6 (43:22):
Okay, So, one thing I noticed about Jay, and you've
been around long enough.

Speaker 3 (43:25):
I've been around long enough. The demeanor on the bench.

Speaker 5 (43:28):
You know, different coaches have different demeanors.

Speaker 6 (43:31):
Jay's demeanor on the bench, I don't think match is
what he was as a player.

Speaker 3 (43:35):
Are you surprised at that demeanor?

Speaker 6 (43:36):
Report like understand it because you know he's just not
smart of a guy.

Speaker 3 (43:40):
That he knows he has to kind of have a
different demeanor.

Speaker 5 (43:42):
And I think he's figured out that. You know, he could,
you know as a defenseman.

Speaker 3 (43:47):
It's almost like.

Speaker 4 (43:48):
Survival, right, he do as a defense but that's how
he had to play to have the career that that
he had. And then he's figured out now because he's
he's highly intelligent, he's stiggered out that debt.

Speaker 3 (43:59):
That's how he has to.

Speaker 5 (44:00):
Be and get everybody on board, get everybody.

Speaker 3 (44:03):
Buy into him.

Speaker 4 (44:04):
You know, every personality is different on his bench, and it's.

Speaker 5 (44:07):
Making sure you can get them all together. And seems
like he's figured out, you know, how to do that.

Speaker 3 (44:13):
Yeah, it's it's called the meter.

Speaker 5 (44:15):
I think reflects this team as well.

Speaker 3 (44:18):
Or is this the Wayne Gretzky.

Speaker 5 (44:19):
But Keith Jones is also a pretty good hockey player
from around Europe.

Speaker 3 (44:22):
What's it like working with Keith? Keith? What's he like?

Speaker 4 (44:25):
It's a blast, you know, I I tell everybody I'm
luckiest GM in the league.

Speaker 3 (44:31):
You have a guy like that.

Speaker 4 (44:33):
That knows the game, displayed the game, which was you know,
for years on the bench closer than even you know,
the coaches were because he was step ahead of them
on the board when he's calling the game. You know,
he has an insight for a lot of people. Highly
intelligent guy, that's crazy. The most impressive work about him.

(44:58):
Uh and witty as well. Now you know, I feel
bad for hockey because we lost an amazing announcer in
the US on Debbie, probably the best there was. So yes,
you're gelfishly your game. Selfishly, I have him all to
myself every game. So it's been a blasts.

Speaker 5 (45:18):
He's a lot of fun to be around, Like he
says is you know, he's the.

Speaker 4 (45:24):
Second best player to ever playing for coming from Grandfart.

Speaker 3 (45:28):
So we have a laugh a moment.

Speaker 5 (45:30):
When you say he's one of the fear around quick story.

Speaker 6 (45:31):
So when I first started out, I was in my
earlier twenties here, I was out of barm he was
there and we shot the shift for like ten minutes.
I've never met the guy, and I said, do you
mind if my introduce my wife. My wife came over
shot the ship for the other time. Just the most
down ever guy that me.

Speaker 3 (45:48):
Just a great guy. Yeah, the funniest Hell yeah, yeah
for sure, you know. So, yeah, we have a blast,
you know.

Speaker 5 (45:54):
On the full part is we're on the same page.

Speaker 3 (45:55):
We see the game the same way, you know, and
hopefully we're we're gonna.

Speaker 4 (46:00):
Build a Flyers team that's gonna be around for a while.

Speaker 3 (46:04):
Appreciate you, tak us. All right.

Speaker 2 (46:05):
That was Philadelphia Flyers general manager Daniel Brier and former
teammate of Jami Keyes, chatting with Colin Ward about Jamickee. Again,
that interview taking place during.

Speaker 3 (46:17):
The game on Sunday, not when he.

Speaker 2 (46:18):
Got or after he got his three hundredth win, but
nonetheless a great chat with Daniel Brier and and very
very kind to to give Colin his time to grab
some audios.

Speaker 3 (46:29):
So again, Danny Brier knows who I am.

Speaker 2 (46:34):
Colin Ward fired out he comes back, We'll go to Chucks.
Oh Man, Chucks, of course, Chucks. But yeah, it's pretty cool.
So uh, let's get to the players of the week
that we're announced on Monday as well, and we'll start
with the player of the week Alex cost Off from

(46:54):
the Flint Firebirds. Three games he had seven goals and
two assists for a total of nine points. He was
also a plus six for the Flint Firebirds over the weekend.
Who we'll see live calin in Branford coming up on Friday,
and they look for a big rebound against the Branford Bulldogs.
They lost seven to nothing to Branford on a couple

(47:14):
of weekends ago in Flint, so they'll be looking for
a bounce back there. Ohl Goaltender of the Week from
the Kingston front Nact. It seems like they're just pumping
out goalie talent, much like Cohen sound is right now.
Matthew Minchak two games for him, he was one and
one with a two point zero three goals against average
save percentage of nine to forty two, making sixty five

(47:35):
saves in those two contests for the Kingston front Knacks.

Speaker 3 (47:40):
Rookie of the.

Speaker 2 (47:41):
Week to Sarnia Easton Whalos, three games, four goals, almost
got the games and goals mixed up there. Three games played,
four goals, three assists for a total of seven points
for the Sarnia Sting rookie which they got a huge
piece back in the second year four Alessandro Diorio. So

(48:02):
they'll look to get on a run right now while
the Sarnia Sting with that with him back, and then
a prospect of the week from the Strathroy Rockets London
Knight's prospect Jake Ritzen two games, three goals and two
assists for a total of five points. This Drathroy looks
to climb back into the playoff picture. Here towards the

(48:25):
middle of November in the g o HL. Time for
a break though, colin Ward, you have the floor before
we head off.

Speaker 3 (48:34):
Happy for Wallace, uh, he's played good for sary Sarniya
is a weird situation there. They I cannot comprehend the
Sarniat thing this season. They played their their best hockey.
In losses they played their best. I mean, obviously they
took three or four with windsor they drop one where
they should have won against Branford, they drop one against London,

(48:55):
I don't know, and then they go have a stinker
against Owen Sound I don't know how like I can't
comprehend this team how they can't get it together. But
I'm happy for Wallas. He looked he looked really good
when I saw him play this year. Uh, it's an
I don't know what. I cannot comprehend the sarnest thing
this year. Let me know, d MS, let me know

(49:17):
what's going on. Like I, I can't comprehend the thing
this year. Yeah, like I. It's like I watched them play.
They can be unbelievable. Next night, come up, Dort. Then
they can play a game and they get absolutely smoked,
and it's like, how do you not have life after
being in games with the top teams in the league.

(49:38):
And then I love the caption absolutely. I love it.
Can't I cannot comprehend the sarniest thing absolutely, title title
the pod. What's the sarniest thing, asked Danny be question mark,
I should ask, but that.

Speaker 2 (49:56):

Welcome back to the Ohl and sixty Podcast with Colin Ward.
I'm Reese do mane BC is behind the scenes running
the show, making sure we continue to record and stuff
don't hit the fan, so shout out to him for that.
Thank you for everyone listening on your favorite audio platforms
as well as on YouTube. On the Armchair GM Sports
Network mentioned off the end of that first segment, the

(52:41):
biggest rivalry on this week's show might be Colin Ward
and the sarniest thing might be the Barry Colts and
Sue Gray, which we're gonna get to in a couple
of minutes. Here, it's not either of those. It's Bones
and the right post on the net.

Speaker 3 (53:00):
Now we're gonna break down this video. You can see
Bones skinning onto the ice. The flag's not ready, and
it's man, that's remembered flag etiquette. You just it's got
to be better. You gotta have it out and ready
to go. That's just, you know what. I'm thinking. It's
not good.

Speaker 2 (53:24):
And I mean well, I think, yeah, hey, man, those
come out of nowhere.

Speaker 3 (53:30):
I think it's hilarious. He left it. Make the ice
crew do it, put it back, let it slide. Panic Bones,
He's like, he's like, crap o, crap, crap A flag
smiling wave, bone smiling wave. Right away. When I see
Bones right to the net, It's like, who's that net there?

(53:52):
And right to it? I'm thinking, I gotta go back
to my tight days when I got the metal bar,
when I first started learning how to skate, and you
got that metal bar at the local arena. I'm thinking
skating's dried. The push thing, the skate, yeah, the skate
like GUIDs. You got metal ones.

Speaker 2 (54:13):
Geez ours were plastic winds there arenas geez.

Speaker 3 (54:18):
But yeah they uh. Right away when I saw that,
I thought, going out on the ice right away, this
isn't gonna be good. And then I kept thinking turn turn,
go behind the net, go behind the net. And then
how you doing? I mean, I will say, I will say,
people only probably watch Nascar as Brandon's gonna love this.
People only watch Nascaro going to circle advertised stuff? Turn left?

(54:44):
How about you turn right, create a diversion. You'd probably win,
But just like you have to you have to turn
right to go left. Exactly what was the line?

Speaker 2 (54:56):
Stupid grandpa car something like that.

Speaker 3 (54:58):
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (54:59):
My my friend, my buddy's son might get a kick
out of that. He's a big cars guy. Shout out
to Oliver. But uh yeah, that was uh. And I
mean we had a discussion about how many beverages bones
had consumed before we're skating out of the ice. But
then looking at it again, pretty clear that he just
didn't have the flag in order. So it's uh, I
was it went viral. I mean a lot of people

(55:20):
had a lot of laughs, so included.

Speaker 3 (55:23):
This end skating mascots. Not a lot of mascots skate before.
I mean not a lot dude introduction like Niagara does
on the road where it's like Bad to the Bones
is playing, which is which is sweet? But I don't know,
Bruiser doesn't. Yeah, like I think if you're a mascot.

Speaker 2 (55:47):
For Kitchener text might I can't remember.

Speaker 3 (55:50):
I can't remember Opening Night, he didn't.

Speaker 2 (55:53):
Windsor's got like three mascots. I'm sure one of them does.

Speaker 3 (55:57):
Spike and Stormy had been out on the scoresy skates
come on? Call?

Speaker 2 (56:03):
Yeah, right, skates come on. That's embarrassing.

Speaker 3 (56:09):
Yeah, well, I didn't really pay attention to the mascot
as a kid, to be.

Speaker 2 (56:11):
Honest, you are the only kid not to pay attention
to the mascot.

Speaker 3 (56:17):
Yeah, it was to be going through power play percentage
with my dad and why the shooting percentage is the
way it is? All right?

Speaker 2 (56:26):
Colin Ward is going to take over the Be Better
segment for this week for whatever reason, six seven seems
like a big thing. I have no freaking idea what
the heck this means. I think that means because I
don't know what this trend is. But Colin Ward is
the floor for the next ninety seconds to complain like
an old man about sixty seven around the ohl.

Speaker 3 (56:48):
I'll cut you and cut me off. I'm in, yeah,
cut me off, ring the buzzer and I gotta stop. Okay,
three two one? You know what, this six to seventh
thing is becoming a joke. I have no clue what
it means, Like maybe that's a problem. I've I've looked
it up. I've gotten my girlfriend to look it up.
I we have no clue what it means. I think

(57:08):
it's just a slogan like that the kids are doing nowadays.
But they're raising the hands of those on YouTube. But
just did a six seven. It kind of reminds me
of when Cam Newton did that, started doing like the
dabbing thing, and that was like, what are we doing
other than losing in the Super Bowl fifty to the
Denver Broncos as they should But uh, lovely, lovely night
that was. But I just think the six to seventh

(57:32):
thing and the captions on social media, how come every
single team that plays the Ottawa sixty sevens has to
post six to seven? Every team the last three weeks
except for the Branford Bulldogs last week on Sunday, and
I made sure of that one. I made sure of
that one. I wanted to hug Maddy Gallant in company
after seeing that the six seven as BC raises a

(57:54):
great point. Maybe it's non Leaf fans celebrating six to seven.
I mean, yeah, the Stanley Cup was probably that light
that lifted at that time, and it's probably maybe maybe
it was heavier back then. It probably heavier product. But oclue.
I wasn't even born, My parents were barely born. I
mean I just think, yeah, like, oh, like, what was

(58:15):
that dad? I don't know, you know, like no clue.
So this one more. The six to seven thing is
a complete joke, and I'd like to see team stop
doing the six to seven thing for every single Ottawa
sixty sevens game. Thank you. I am done, all right,

(58:36):
moving on. I don't even know what's next. That threw
me off. Oh my god, look at us go here.
In segment number two, we got bones running into posts.
We got colin Ward complaining, right Burry in c Saint Marie.
That's right. The shootout winner goes in. Yeah, you see

(58:57):
it on YouTube.

Speaker 2 (58:58):
Essentially the wave Goodbye to the Barry Colts bench, which I.

Speaker 3 (59:03):
Hate when teams do that. I hate when teams shoot out.
When scoring the shootout and they go train and mark
at the bench, it's like, okay, I understand, but if
a whole bench came after the one player, what are
you really gonna do? Like the old phase, what are
you gonna do? So that's that's one of.

Speaker 2 (59:20):
The who said that was that Clarkson against No, it
wasn't Clarkson against Bertuzzie when he knocked off the water bottle.
Don't touch my water bottle, David signing Toronto, good job.

Speaker 3 (59:34):
Yeah, yeah, what are you gonna do? What are you
gonna do? So? Yeah, that's uh, yeah, I don't.

Speaker 2 (59:43):
I mean, and then then and then you get the
salute to it's supposed to be the fans. I guess
more directed at the Barry Colts saluting them back home.

Speaker 3 (59:52):
I guess. Uh.

Speaker 2 (59:54):
We know Calvin Crombie from his Brantford Bulldogs days, he's
all over that.

Speaker 3 (59:58):
But I don't, I don't know. I don't know how
to react to this one. And I didn't watch the game.
I'll admit it.

Speaker 2 (01:00:04):
Barry and Sue is not something I'll go out of
my way to watch unfortunately. And that's no offense to
the Sue Greyhounds or Barry Colts. Barry is a little
bit more exciting with Heming coming back. That's a big addition,
and I think they have a chance to really do
well this year in the Eastern Conference. But I mean,
unless you're number one in the OHL, I'd like, why

(01:00:27):
are we doing this? I don't get it again unless
something was said earlier in the game, unless there was
a big interaction that in the place again that I
might not know about, and that'll be on me for
not knowing that. But you want a skills competition, Yeah,
that's all I have to say about that.

Speaker 3 (01:00:47):
If it was a ten minute overtime, you probably lose.
I And you know what, Brandon gives a really good
point here on YouTube. Who was right? Who was wrong?
I mean just saying no team was in the right,
no team is in the wrong. I will say this,
The biggest wrong of the whole was after the game
going off, the ice takes his water bottle and sprays it. Fright.

(01:01:11):
That's that's that's gotta be a five gamer minimum five game,
minimum five games. You look at that.

Speaker 2 (01:01:18):
Object purposely into the crowd, like Big Time said that
shot a Teddy Bear back in but yeah, you get five.

Speaker 3 (01:01:26):
Yeah, he flicked it back up.

Speaker 2 (01:01:28):
Kind of indo similar. I mean, you're off the ice,
but still.

Speaker 3 (01:01:32):
This has intent. You see the guy barking at you. Okay,
fans are gonna bark. It's gonna happen. Your first round
pick in the NHL. It's not gonna be the last
time someone yaps at you. I hate to break it
to you. It's not gonna be well. When you play
in New York.

Speaker 2 (01:01:49):
Devils and Rangers fans can be pretty uh pretty mean.

Speaker 3 (01:01:52):
The Islander players. Islander fans can be bad to their
own if you if you don't play hard, ask John
Tavarius about leaving them and go him back there. You know,
Like I think, like on the Island, it's an island
for a reason in the New York and I think
that with this situation here, when you take the water body,
you come off the ice and it's like the water

(01:02:13):
at the guy at the fan, like Ingram on the
Raptors got suspended on Monday afternoon for his in Philly
for spiking the water that hit a photographer of Philadelphia
of the seventy six ers he got suspended twenty five
thousand dollars and there wasn't even intent on that. Obviously
that's the NBA. Wait wait, whita, whoa, whoa?

Speaker 2 (01:02:34):
Hang on, he got suspended twenty five thousand.

Speaker 3 (01:02:37):
Sorry, sorry, I'm thinking about this. So was there a
suspension on top of that? I hate it.

Speaker 2 (01:02:41):
I think it's dumb. No, no, just a fine.

Speaker 3 (01:02:43):
No, there wasn't a suspense. Sorry, got fined twenty five
guy and that Sorry. I was taking suspension with Ahson
on the matter, just in in my opinion, it's a
five game minimum suspension. Five games. You can't that's in
league protocol. And if and if there's not a suspension
on this, if there is not a suspension on this,

(01:03:05):
why do fans go to the games? And obviously we're
OHL promote promoting the OHL every week we're talking about
the OHL. I love the OHL. But if the OHL
does not do a suspension here, why do fans go
to the games? Like I understand, there's a Code of
Conduct policy one thousand. For instance, Oshawa on Friday night
played it three times every period they played it, which

(01:03:26):
is hilarious when you got people on social media who
are absolute clowns hanging out on a flip phone burner accounts,
but uh, that's a song. That's a song. And d
answer another day. But I think that those situations happen.
You have to control it. You have to set a
standard right now, it's not right. I don't think that

(01:03:46):
can happen again, Sue Saint Marie. A lot of barkings
going on. It. Stop going by the bench every time
you score and having to say something why, like why
so I no team is in the right. One person,
in my opinion, is in the wrong. It's gonna happen
when you're walking at a bench.

Speaker 2 (01:04:05):
Man teenagers like we've been teenager before, Like, like, it happens,
but it's just I think, I don't know. I kind
of thought it was dumb then, like, don't show about
until you win a championship. That's just my thing, Like exactly,
I get you want to be excited when you win,
but there's no really real reason to direct it at
a bench or another player again, unless something agreed just

(01:04:28):
happened earlier in the game that makes you be like, hey,
we got the two warrants.

Speaker 3 (01:04:31):
Sucks to be you.

Speaker 2 (01:04:33):
But again, yeah, whether someone was in the right or wrong, I.

Speaker 3 (01:04:38):
I don't know. I don't know. Again, we weren't there.
We'd get a better idea if we were actually at
the game.

Speaker 2 (01:04:42):
You can only see so much on highlights and on TV,
but I caught the ending of it.

Speaker 3 (01:04:47):
Who knows. I I think I in my opinion, I
think the player in Ahison is wrong for skating off
the ice like that with the water bottle. That's my
biggest wrong in the whole thing. Like I don't know
if I'm saying else, but that's my biggest wrong right
now in the whole situation. Seeing that it's not a
good look. It's a horrible one for the league. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:05:07):
Well, I've got a video of kin of an executive
throwing a water bottle onto the ice and Niagara, but.

Speaker 3 (01:05:11):
We won't get into that.

Speaker 2 (01:05:14):
Remember in state jerseys from this past weekend, I mean
again on YouTube you can see them pop up on
your screen for anyone listening. Go check out social media.
They're pretty well plasted everywhere or plastered everywhere. Kingston front
and acts do it really well as always. The Sue
Greyhounds with the poppy right on the front. Those are sharp, Yeah,

(01:05:35):
like no offense to the Greyhounds logo.

Speaker 3 (01:05:37):
This is a jersey.

Speaker 2 (01:05:38):
It doesn't need the Greyhounds logo on it. I see
that it's on the shoulders obviously, But you got the
poppy front and center. You've got that maple leaf or
the Canadian flag I should say, on each on each arm. Yeah,
I will say the logo does look nice on the shoulders,
don't get me wrong. But but the way they designed
that jersey with the poppy just front and center, that's sharp. Like,

(01:05:58):
I'm a really big fan of that jersey right now
for the suit Greyhounds. Not also because their other jerseys
are red and white, much like the Detroit Red Wings
jersey concept, but a jersey setup. But that one is
really really sharp. And I mean Colin Kitchener does it again.
I love these man, They're incredible. All three so far unreal.

(01:06:21):
Kingston's been around for a while. There's but Kitchener.

Speaker 3 (01:06:23):
I mean, like we say, not a surprise model of consistency.
They they honor their tradition like no other in the league.
You ask someone from Kitchener when it's like to trade
their captain in the middle of November, they would they
would not know what that means. That's how good Kitchener
is into an organization. They're incredible.

Speaker 2 (01:06:40):
Yeah, absolutely, And and again Branford has theirs as well.
You can go look on their social media. Those jerseys
are up for auction, I believe as well, So go
check those out. And it's it's sort of like a
yellow digiKam jersey white background white. I guess it's the
background white is the main color, and then it's got

(01:07:01):
the yellow digiKam in there also.

Speaker 3 (01:07:04):
But yeah, yeah, the I don't know.

Speaker 2 (01:07:08):
It's hard to bet against Kitchener. I love Kingston's love.
I love the camouflage. Look like I said, the sue
with the poppy right on the front is sweet. But yeah,
I mean Kitchener again takes the cake. It's not even close.
So all right, to wrap up the show as we
do always, let's get to the power rankings from the

(01:07:29):
Ontario Hockey League and we'll go through that before you
give up, we give our top five. Brampton Steelheads up
into the top sixteen, up one spot to number sixteen.
North Bay Battalion down two spots, number fifteen. Sarnia moves
up three spots into the number fourteen position. Peterboro also
up three spots number thirteen, gwelf does not move their

(01:07:50):
number twelve, Buryed down one to number eleven, Niagara down
three to number ten, Kingston does not move their number nine,
Flint up three to number eight, Soue down two to
number seven, Owen Sound down two spots to number six.
Ottawa sixty Seven's grab five of six points this past weekend.
I just had to do some quick math in my head.

(01:08:11):
There they're up three spots number five, London up two
to number four. Kitchener and Winsor switched spots for the
second straight week. Kitchener down to three, Winsor up to two,
and the Branford Bulldogs, who have not lost in regulation,
continue to sit at number one. Colin Ward this week
team number five for you tied again, oh, Owen Sound, Kitchener, Brandon.

(01:08:38):
We gotta start placing bets on when colin Ward's not
gonna have a team tied to fifth or two teams
tis a fifth probably December.

Speaker 3 (01:08:46):
That's just gonna happen, though, man, especially this year in
the West. How close it is. It's hard, it's it's
I don't think it's fair to leave a team out
for five when now there's no really teams established in
the so I think give it another month it I'll
start to switch up. But right now, Owen Sound and
Kitchener h four to four oh and two and Owen
Sound their last ten uh Ohwen Sound Kitchener to.

Speaker 2 (01:09:09):
Me, all right, number five for me, I'm gonna go
with the Ottawa sixty sevens, despite their special teams still
not being good at nineteen point seven percent on the
power play, sixty eight point one on the penalty kill.
They don't take a lot of penalties, so really that's
not as big of a difference, but or as big
of a deal. I guess you could say you'd want
that percentage to be higher, of course, but they've only

(01:09:31):
taken one hundred and fifty nine minutes in penalties where
everyone else is hovering around two hundred, just below, just over.
And then Barry Culture at three oh seven kind of
well out in front of the pack, along with the
own Sound Attack at three oh two. But the Auto
sixty Sevens, like I said, they grabbed five of six
this week on their three game road trip, and yeah

(01:09:53):
they're they're rolling. They've got points in their last six,
so they're up to number five for me, and they
bump London out of my power rankings as week.

Speaker 3 (01:10:01):
Yeah, Ottawa is good. They're they're funding to watch. Who's
number four for you? Ardi? Four for me? The Barry
Colts six oh oh and one. Obviously that shootout loss
in SIUs Saint Marie that we just talked about. Barry
to me is four standing in that same spot as
last week. I think that Aarry. They're They're they're winning

(01:10:21):
their division hands down. I said it in the off season.
I'm gonna say it all year. Barry's winning their division
and it's not even gonna be close. Oh yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:10:29):
They They've worked themselves into a tie with the Niagara
Ice Dogs at twenty two points, and the better team
Niagara was running away with it by any means, But
I would say.

Speaker 3 (01:10:42):
Yeah, all right, we're gonna move on from that. Jeez
oh man. Number four for me, I can't remember.

Speaker 2 (01:10:55):
I might be switching this up on you, b C.
But uh, number four for me or the are the
Owen sound attack, They're they're the modern day five hundred
In the last ten power play is still unreal.

Speaker 3 (01:11:06):
Right now.

Speaker 2 (01:11:07):
They've scored ninety two goals. That is the most in
the Western Conference. They give up a lot at seventy four.
But at the same time, they're still they're still leading
their division by a couple of points. They're they're at
thirteen wins, just a couple behind the winsor spitfires. So
not a bad weekend for own sound by any means.
But they're They're number four for me because I think
three teams are a little bit better.

Speaker 3 (01:11:27):
Uh, Colin Ward, who's number three for you? Three for me?
The Ottawa sixty sevens. I think Ottawa is really good.
They're systematically, their defense is really good. You know, Ottawa
can win the two to one game better than anybody
in that system that they play. I'm they're defense man
defensive system too. I like Ottawa. Their power play gonna

(01:11:48):
go up washing in person power play to watch them.
I mean, they're like Moreley, he looks good, white Head
can shoot the puck. Ottawa Ottawa is. I'm not worried
about Ottawa at all. I think Atwa is a three
spot this week.

Speaker 2 (01:12:04):
Number three for me. The Kitchener Rangers. Again, they're past ten.
You mentioned it, Colin. They're they're on a roll right now,
seven to two and one in their last ten games. Again,
a team that you'd like to see the power play
in PK maybe a little bit higher, but they're not terrible.
They're probably about middle of the pack or so about
league average. But they've only lost four times in regulation.

(01:12:24):
London Knights are the same at four times winsors at three,
So they're in that mix where they're not really losing
a lot of points. They're still collecting them, whether it
be wins or whether it be losses beyond regulation. They've
lost a couple in overtime, but they're still collecting those
points and they're just they're two back of own sound,
they're six back of winsor with two games in hand.
So the Kitchen Rangers number three for me this week.

(01:12:48):
They might have gotten a boost because they had awesome
jerseys on I can't confirm or deny that as part
of my rankings. It may have factored into it. But
number two calling, who do you got?

Speaker 3 (01:13:00):
Two for me? The Winster, Smift Fires, the Geam they
were three last week. They got back in the win call.
I mean three in a row wins A number two yep, yeah,
I'm with you as well.

Speaker 2 (01:13:10):
Their their goal differential is is really good as well,
at a plus thirty three right now, eighty goals for
forty seven goals against. Yeah, they're still They're still the
best team in the Western Conference. I think not by
wide margin, but I'd say by a fairly decent margin.
They're the best team in the Western Conference right now.
I think they're This is gonna be weird to say

(01:13:31):
because I love the height of their defense, all seven
of them that are on the roster, seven or eight
of them that are on the roster. But if they
can add to the blue line, that'll be really huge
for the winsor spit fires. I think they might need
another goal scorer too as well. But right now, they
are still the best team in the Western Conference. So
that's why they stick at number two. Colin Ward pretty obvious.
Who's number one?

Speaker 3 (01:13:51):
Yep? Ran for Bulldogs. They keep it going, streak keeps continuing,
and like I said, a time to think they're trying
to lose. To get over that, but not it's all jokes.
But I think at times they've shown that they're vulnerable.
They're getting teams bashed every night in Branford. But yep,
Branford's won.

Speaker 2 (01:14:10):
Well and I think for the Bulldogs they're gonna feel
it like some of the teams that are gonna lose
a lot of guys. You think of who's on the
Bulldog's roster come World Junior time, you can easily see
all three imports gone and Dravetsky, yeah you're a check
and Benock to the team Checkia at least for Luck
captain in camp. Yeah, yeah, probably. You have to imagine

(01:14:35):
O'Brien at least gets an invite to camp for Team Canada.
Mark van Acker maybe he gets an invite as well.
Edison Angle, we'll see if the Americans give him a
look with how well he's played for the Bulldogs on
the back end. But Danford for Team Canada also, so
you know, they might feel the effects of losing some
top guys for the World Juniors. And again we've talked

(01:14:58):
about it at lengths on the dodcast. They're gonna lose
in regulation. Eventually, it's going to happen. This is hockey,
this is the Ohl. Crazy things happen. There's gonna be
a night where the Bulldogs just don't have it. It's
gonna happen. That's hockey, and I think for them right now,
you just continue to ride the high how well you
know the results in getting wins. Might not have been

(01:15:20):
the best weekend, but you still walked away with five
out of six points with two wins against Aushauain Ottawa
and then losing it overtime to peterboroughs so plus fifty
goal differential. Really hard to beat that first team to
one hundred goals for so bray for Bulldogs number one
for both of us again this week, and that will
wrap up this week's edition of the Ohl and sixty podcast. Again,

(01:15:42):
if he's listening, we'll give a huge shout out to
Daniel Brere and and thank him for his time speaking
with Colin ward On during Sunday's game in Branford. I
hope you all enjoyed that five minutes with with mister Briere,
the general manager of the Philadelphia Flyers, former teammate of
Ja McKee. And yeah, there's there's lots more hockey coming

(01:16:03):
up this week. We've got another school day game this
week as well, on Wednesday, ten thirty in the morning
in Ottawa. Kingston front acts Ottawa sixty sevens. In the
right time to have a school day game, not in
March in the middle of a playoff race. Some teams
that do that team but This one's at Canadian Tire Center,

(01:16:23):
which is always awesome when they can fill that huge
building with kids for a junior hockey game.

Speaker 3 (01:16:29):
Oh my goodness.

Speaker 2 (01:16:30):
I would not want to be in the building for
that because I would lose my hearing. But but to
see that atmosphere from Afar on a TV screen is
pretty awesome to see. This is one that that I'm
sure the sixty sevens players look forward to right off
the hop but as well as the Kingston Front and
acts whenever this one gets scheduled. So yeah, that that

(01:16:52):
should be fun again. Hope everyone wore their poppies today
November eleventh, Remembrance Day. If or not, I have no words,
So so let's uh. I'm gonna keep it going all
through November. I hope that's a trend that starts. I
don't know, I'd like it to, but man, oh yeah,

(01:17:15):
but you gotta find a pin. I've got a Canada
pin that I throw in the middle so it doesn't
fall off.

Speaker 3 (01:17:21):
Yeah that I've figured it out. Yeah I've dropped like
five or six I've lost. But keep her going. Keep
her going, all.

Speaker 2 (01:17:32):
Right, everybody, and enjoy the enjoy the week's action coming up.
And that'll do it for us here on the Ohl
and sixty podcast. Thanks to BC behind the Scenes for
running all the production for Collin word. I'm Reese Dumani.
Thanks so much for tuning in and we will chat
again in seven days.

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
