Speaker 1 (00:00):
You're listening to the Armchair GM Sports Network.

Speaker 2 (01:00):
Good evening and welcome to another edition of the Ohl
and sixty podcast. It is the first of the month
of November. I can't believe we're there already. Domania, along
with Colin Ward BC is behind the scenes. Thank you
everybody for tuning in wherever you're tuning in from, whether
it be from your couch, your car, from a hockey arena,
that'd be pretty sweet. But if you're watching us on

(01:22):
YouTube on the Armchair GM Sports Network, make sure you
hit that like and subscribe button to make sure you
don't miss any of the content that gets rolled out
across the platform and of course any audio platform that
you're listening to us on. We really appreciate it. And
it's this month. The game is this month. That's why

(01:43):
you see the hats on the YouTube stream. Michigan hosting
Ohio State, witting their four game win streak on the
line at the Big House this year, and we've got
a little bit of a bet, I guess, bet agreement,
whatever you want to call it. In past we've kind
of done a thing where, you know, the whoever team loses,

(02:06):
and most recently it's been Ohio State over the last
four years where the person has to wear the color
of the winning team. So Colin Ward would have to
wear maze and blue. I would have to wear scarlet
and gray. Yeah, so let's let's do Why why why
do our universities use weird colors? It's yellow and blue

(02:28):
and red and silver or gray. I don't know, It's
just my personal thing, but I guess maze and blue
sounds better. Scarlet and gray sounds better than just plain
old yellow, old red. So yeah, we're gonna do that
this year. So so the first show following the game,

(02:49):
whoever loses gonna have to wear the opposing team's hat
and uh for that for that next show, and it
should be fun to hear hail to the victors for
the fifth straight year, and uh, Bryce Underwood gonna lead
them to victory the home state kid, Yeah.

Speaker 3 (03:05):
I mean against Heisman favorite. Yeah that's rough. Ohio State
plays Perdue this week, but uh, Julian saying, yeah, hey,
you know what Perdue produce jerseys and stuff is kind
of cool, to be honest.

Speaker 4 (03:20):
I like it.

Speaker 3 (03:22):
Yeah, yeah, I mean yeah, I mean it's too bad
they're not good. I mean it's like Northwestern. I like
Northwestern jerse, maybe because I know BC Off in the
distance and the Clouds is gonna love this one. I
know he's a Western Mustang fan too, but maybe it's
a purple that just looks so cool with Northwestern reminds
me of Western University obviously when Western can get the.

Speaker 4 (03:40):
Ball out of the end zone but go Stangs.

Speaker 3 (03:43):
But uh, they got bounced earlier this year, an embarrassing one.
But maybe that's why there's a Northwestern. But there's something
about those jerseys. You're cool, Like, I like those two
those I don't know why, but those two are pretty cool.

Speaker 4 (03:56):
Yeah, yeah, so it'll be it'll be exciting.

Speaker 2 (03:59):
That's a little bit of a side bet for the
Michigan Ohio State game year coming up later this month,
and we're getting ready for it already on the on
November fourth, so we'll give you a rundown of today's
topics on on the show Ohl Headlines, and that included
three trades, one major trade, one shake your head trade,

(04:23):
and one depth trade that I think is gonna work
out for both sides. So we'll get to that along
with the rest of the Ohl Headlines. Sam Dickinson played
game number ten in a shootout loss to the Detroit
Red Wings three to two. He scored his first NHL
goal in that game. So he's one of few players
that we're going to discuss. Do we think they're gonna

(04:46):
come back? Dickinson just hit game ten. I think that's
out of the question of him being this year.

Speaker 3 (04:50):
And he had the meeting that means find a place
kind of place exactly so extra closed, shifted out, yeah,
or find a veteran to shack up with for the
next year.

Speaker 4 (05:02):
So, uh in did.

Speaker 3 (05:04):
You see the Matthew Shaffer's story, living with living with
the Martins, living with Matt Martin's And uh now he's
just going into Matt Martin's closet now and grabbing like
a Gucci T shirt, just living it. I that made
that much money he could afford that in NHL. Well,

(05:26):
the family, Sydney and Siason like fair enough. Yeah, quite
the family. And I saw the picture too with Matthew Shaeffer.
And that's the one thing Islander fans are gonna love
him like New Yorker's gonna love Matthew Shaeffer seeing him
in the picture with Boomer Siasin covering in Boomer Siason
has a Rangers jersey on and Matthew Shaffer covering it
with his hands, with his arm covering the Rangers logo.

(05:49):
That was unbelievable. They're gonna love, They're gonna love Matthew Shaeffer.
The personality is infectious. I mean, we saw that last year.
It's too bad he didn't play many games in the OHL,
but we saw last year the top Prospects game the
three MSD in Branford, where you saw him being the
coach right reading the lineup, the music, a game day
skate on the bench like he's everywhere. I mean Matthew
Schaeffer and honestly, the CHL national development team program that

(06:15):
game as well.

Speaker 4 (06:16):
Matthew Schaeffer owned that game. I mean.

Speaker 3 (06:18):
So it's pretty cool to see the personality and the
skill will translate to the next level. I mean, OHL Grad,
it's always cool to see. Yeah, yeah, absolutely.

Speaker 2 (06:28):
And the photo we're gonna put up on our YouTube
stream eventually of him and Mysa Lisa hasn't hit nine
games yet, or hasn't hit ten games yet, I should
say he's two away. As the show releases on November fourth, Tuesday,
November fourth, so a decision looming for Michael Misa. Is
he a San Jose shark or is he a Segana Spirit?

(06:48):
We're gonna find out over the next week or so.
We'll also get to standout players of the week and
the month, of course, those being announced with Halloween being
this past Friday, so we'll get to that. Well, then
take a quick break, and then some details released about
the Top Prospects Game in Peterborough, the second annual Conor
McDavid Top Prospects Game. Uh so, so we'll chat about that.

(07:11):
Who's established as the ones.

Speaker 4 (07:14):
Who's a trick, who's a treat? Yeah? Hey man, look
at you though? Was that on the flyer? Did you
have that bad? On the fly?

Speaker 3 (07:23):
On the fly I have I have my media notes
out on my iPad to my right and then my
phone's off, so on the.

Speaker 4 (07:33):
Fly yeah, we'll be okay, what's a trick, what's a treat?
So far? Yeah, yeah, it'll be it'll be a fun conversation.

Speaker 2 (07:43):
I think we're deep enough into the season that we
can start to chat about that, because as you go throughout,
probably the first six to eight weeks or so, you
have those surprises, but in six to eight weeks, you
should see more of a true product of of what
a team is and and there are a few situations
around the league where we're starting to see that. So
we'll touch on that in segment number two and then

(08:05):
the Ohl Power rankings. There was a ton of movement
throughout fifteen teams. One team did not move and that's
Branford Bulldogs because they have not lost in regulation yet,
which kind of foreshadows our main topic of who's established
in the league and who's not. The Branford Bulldogs have
a forty power play and we're four for five in

(08:28):
saganaw on Sunday and the penalty kill. Yeah, it's been
pretty good too, So we'll get to that. That should
be a fun one. But before we get started, we
did a little research ahead of the show, and we'll
give a shout out to BC for this one because
he's got some images to put up on the screen.
There's a pretty big event Saturday night down at Rogers Center,

(08:51):
Game seven of the World Series, and it did.

Speaker 4 (08:55):
Not go the Blue Jays way.

Speaker 3 (08:57):
Ah as Colin Warf just slot just slide.

Speaker 4 (09:05):
Hey, you guys did a good job. You guys.

Speaker 3 (09:07):
You guys knew about this beforehand. You guys did a
good job of this because you guys can tested this.
The first thing I actually talked about was the slide,
and I didn't think it was his fault. Okay, I
mean catch those on YouTube. I mean, Aaron too bad.
Aaron Judge wasn't in centerfield, you would have dropped it,
hit it right out of you would have dropped it

(09:27):
like last year that it wasn't that World Series that
I in center field. Well that's the problem, right we
weren't playing the Yankees. We were playing the Yankees. It
would have been over four games ago. What a one
and three? Didn't you have to play the fourth game?
But a mercy roll and it would be a world record.

(09:50):
Yeah you know, Okay, easy there on YouTube right now,
Blue Jay fans, cover your eyes, fast forward. You know what, Rojas,
it was the most Okay, bloody, there is crying in baseball.
I mean, you just lose in the game. You did
as these pictures. I'm just commentating on it right now.
I'm going to play by flight for every picture he's
putting up right now.

Speaker 4 (10:10):
But bloody crying, I mean, yeah, it's baseball.

Speaker 3 (10:13):
You work your butt off to get the game seven
I mean I was emotional the last three days about it,
and you know, the part's tough as I had to
wait twenty seven years to get to this moment, and
when you lose like that, it's.

Speaker 4 (10:26):
The worst feeling in the world.

Speaker 3 (10:28):
It is like as a player, like in baseball, like
never got I never lost in an Oba final, Like
I was lucky that department, but man to lose in
a final like that, you did lose the worst. Yeah,
but you know what the message was before the game. Yeah, yeah,

(10:48):
you had a very bright coach for that one.

Speaker 4 (10:50):
Yeah, facts, idiot.

Speaker 3 (10:53):
I know, I you know, it's it's tough. It's very
emotion like I was sang before the show, like being
a way eight. Yeah, they win the Stanley Cup, it
is great, No nine, what happened?

Speaker 4 (11:04):
Happened?

Speaker 3 (11:05):
But your kid and after it's like, well they won
the year before, right, Like it's not like you had
to wait that long and I didn't. I don't remember this,
but I was born fourteen days before the Red Wings
won the Stanley Cup, like in ninety eight.

Speaker 4 (11:18):
So like it's just things like that.

Speaker 3 (11:21):
But it's devastating though, like growing up every month going
to a Jay's game that that was the most devastating time.

Speaker 4 (11:31):
O KBC tron sports never fails. Well, yeah, if the.

Speaker 3 (11:35):
Toronto Blue Jays played in London, that catch is not made,
the home run of the ninth is not happening.

Speaker 4 (11:42):
None of that's happening.

Speaker 3 (11:44):
And I truly believe that if it's any city in
Canada other than Toronto.

Speaker 4 (11:48):
Yeah, okay, that was awesome.

Speaker 3 (11:50):
It's devastating for sure. Didn't you win the fifty to fifty?
That would have been tough.

Speaker 4 (11:57):
Did did you see?

Speaker 3 (12:00):
You know?

Speaker 2 (12:00):
So you know how in Scooby Doo, Fred's usually the
dude to unmask the villain. Did you see the graphic
of him unmasking the Blue Jays logo and it turns
out to be the Toronto Maple Leafs logo. No, but
the Leaf's got to win a round though, I mean

(12:20):
couple in the last few years.

Speaker 4 (12:22):
Yeah, but the Jay I mean that Stanley Cup final?
What's that for the Leafs? Wow? Second round? They act
like that's the Stanley Cup. Yeah. No, haven't been to
a final since they won last.

Speaker 3 (12:38):
No, exactly, And that's why I think with the Jay's
it's different, like it's they they Honestly, I thought they
forced the Dodgers more than I ever thought they were
going into the series, like I really did, I really did,
Like I didn't expect it to go that way. I mean,
I didn't expect them to make the playoffs the beginning
of the year, and I don't think anybody did. It's
it's devastating, honestly, it's probably the worst feeling I've had

(13:00):
as a sports fan and one of my teams ever.
It was, it was it was heartbreaking. I mean, for
the last couple of days, it was frustrating. I mean,
that did not happen. I was watching on YouTube that
did not happen.

Speaker 4 (13:14):
But no, it's it's it's tough. Yeah, it's it's horrible
to go through.

Speaker 3 (13:19):
I mean, when you're that close, right, and you had
to lead in the ninth like it was right there,
and then seeing the thing in Edmonton where they thought
they won, when the fans thought they won the World Series,
that's horrible, Like, that's horrible at the plate that with
Edmonton Chicago on Saturday, like that reaction, like that's tough
to see for an Edmonton Blue Jay fan for sure.

(13:42):
But it sucks and and you know, and I did,
and it's tough to hear, like the worst thing to
hear is oh, you'll be back next year. No, you won't,
like you know, like it, Yeah, exactly, that's dumb. Exactly
the way the odds.

Speaker 2 (14:01):
For the twenty twenty six World Series are out, Blue
Jays aren't even top five, and that's.

Speaker 3 (14:05):
Okay, And that's okay because they weren't on there last
year either. But yeah, I think that it's just like
to say that because it's so hard to get back.
There's no guarantees in baseball, Like, yeah, there's no guarantees,
Like it's one of the hardest games to play, and
it's one of those it's one of those sports where
every single day you live, you live the way you're playing.

(14:29):
You know, if when you're in a slump, life's miserable,
but when you're and it's gonna happen, you're gonna go
through slumps. And then there's days where you're gonna have
good days. And I know Yankee fans have never had
a good day since two thousand and eight or whenever
the heck the last time was they won the World's Series.

Speaker 4 (14:46):
But you know, then you have good days.

Speaker 3 (14:48):
But I just think that it's so hard to get
back and it's just unfortunate, Like it sucks. So where's
feeling in the world's sports fan?

Speaker 4 (14:58):
But to say they're gonna.

Speaker 3 (14:59):
Just me back next year, like, come on, I know it.
Whatever helps you feel better, but I don't even want
to think about next year.

Speaker 4 (15:07):
It's like still grieving. I mean to make you feel better.

Speaker 2 (15:11):
It seems like a lot of Blue Jay fans are
blaming Carnie the Clown because he met with the Oilers
before they lost in the Stanley Cup Final, and he
met with John Steider before the World Series.

Speaker 4 (15:21):
So that's on that idiot. So there you go.

Speaker 3 (15:26):
But we're not going to get into politics because I
will get canceled. So let's talk about the Ontario Hockey
League because it's something we enjoy, unlike politics. But the
Branford Bulldogs and the Aushawa Generals hook up for the
biggest blockbuster of the year so far, Ben Danford and

(15:49):
Zach Sandu, Which what a hell of a weekend for
those two guys in Michigan to make their Bulldogs debuts Sunday.
Yeah yeah, they're lined up together on the second pairing
both games against Flint and Sagana going the other way.
Tough one in eight in O'Donnell, I'm a huge fan

(16:09):
of his. Oshawa, You're getting one heck of a player.
He's he is really really good. Lucas Moore, great away,
great leader for the for the young club that you're
gonna have in Oshawa. You get the rights to Luca
de Placido, who could be a guy late in the
season as well, and then draft picks nine of them.

(16:30):
Ottawa's second in twenty twenty six, Brantford's fourth in twenty
twenty six, Kingston second in twenty twenty seven, Barry's tenth
in twenty twenty seven, Oshawa's second in twenty twenty eight.
So that's theirs again, Sudbury's third in twenty twenty eight,
Gwelf's third in twenty twenty nine, Brampton's third in twenty

(16:52):
twenty nine, and Brantford's fourth in two thousand and twenty nine. Colin,
this is a deal where, sure you give up a lot.
Normally you don't see nine picks sent with three players,
maybe one or two, not three. It's still not as
bad as the Niagara Kingston deal for Jason Robertson and

(17:14):
Jacob Piquette. Sending Ian Martin Billy Constantino and eleven picks
to the Kingston Front and acts. But for this one,
this is a move you go all in for and
if you win, you don't really care what the future
looks like because you got your ring, you got your
banner up top of the TD Civic Center and eventually
the new arena that's going to be in Brantford, and

(17:36):
that's all you care about. And this is that kind
of move where you just throw all your chips into
the middle of the table. You've already shown obviously during
the off season that you're going for it, but this
kind of cements that where it doesn't really make a
difference about the future. We just want to win now
and that's our goal. Yeah, it gets you the opportunity, right,
It sets you up. It sends a message in the room, right,

(17:56):
It's sent on both sides. I think this is a
deal that was in talk real long time. I mean,
going back to the offseason, this was a tough This
was a deal that was talked about for a while.
I mean there's a lot of negotiations going on when
you have a lot of players involved like this too.
It's it's a lot of talking to players it's a
hard deal to get figured out. It's a it's a
long deal to get done because there's so many players involved, right,

(18:17):
you have five players involved.

Speaker 4 (18:19):
Take a long time to get that.

Speaker 3 (18:20):
Deal processed, to the league meetings with the players agents
and worth. But no, it's a good deal for both sides.
I mean gets draft picks. Sorry, what's that reason?

Speaker 2 (18:29):
Yeah, now, just no move clauses having to get as
well for Donald the first rounder.

Speaker 4 (18:35):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (18:35):
So like it's a long deal. It's a process for
this deal. And I mean for Oshawa you're getting picks.
You're getting an excellent leader who I think should be
the captain of the Osawa Generals in the second half
of the season.

Speaker 4 (18:47):
I don't think Lucas Moore wants to get moved again.

Speaker 3 (18:49):
I know I've gotten a few comments about the tradement
and a few Generals fans about is Lucas Moore a
potential deadline flip. I don't think that's the case with
Lucas Moore. I think Lucas Moore wants to play minutes.
He's gonna play minutes inwa and I think that he's
fine with that. The way the landscape is for o Age, right,

(19:10):
you play a lot, you get a contract, or you
get a chance playing the NC double A. That's kind
of I think the approach for Lucas Moore. I mean
I could be wrong here. I could be a if
the deal comes and you have an opportunity to go
play on a team, well you might take it. But
if it's not top minutes, I think he's glad where
he is. I think he's in a great spot in Oswa.
He's in a long a ton of minutes. He's gonna

(19:31):
be playing thirty five minutes a night there for oshwas
So it's a great move for Oshwa.

Speaker 4 (19:35):
They get a lead, it takes over Danford's minutes. Yeah,
big time, big time.

Speaker 3 (19:38):
Him and Wang're gonna be running, They're gonna be doing
the heavy lifting.

Speaker 4 (19:42):
So I think that's it. I think that's a great move.

Speaker 3 (19:44):
And honestly, for o'donald up front eight, o'donald's gonna get
the opportunity to play with Owen Griffin.

Speaker 4 (19:49):
I would imagine a few times he did Game one.

Speaker 3 (19:52):
I think yesterday he didn't, or on Sunday I don't
think he did to start the game. I could be wrong,
but I think that it's a good opportunity for o'donald
to play with Owen Griffin still he's playing with Melhultra
and Dennis and Branford. That's a good opportunity for him
there he goes to Oshawa, if he plays with Griffin,
plays with Rigowski, he can get him the puck. I
think that's a good opportunity for a o'donald play a

(20:14):
lot of minutes in his draftear. He's gonna play more
minutes in that in that role than what he would
in Branford. Just to Nick rossetto coming back shortly. That's
one of those moves for for the Bulldogs in generals
where it fits both sides, right. You get the opportunity
to play, you get the draft picks for Oshwall that's great.
Roger Hunt, you had to you had to jump all
over that to get the amount of picks they got.
And Luca a p fosdo we'll see it. Sounds like

(20:37):
it's just a fill, it's just a throw in and
we'll see what happens. But for oshwat's a good dealing
for the Bulldogs. I mean, you get two stud defenseman
what you kind of needed. Right.

Speaker 4 (20:46):
Yeah, you'll watch them, You'll watch them play.

Speaker 3 (20:48):
Day in and day out, and you're thinking, Yeah, you
look at the plus minus leaders and Ben Danford, Zack Sandy,
they fit kind of what they needed.

Speaker 4 (20:55):
Sandy's a tough defenseman. They have Rider bolting up front.

Speaker 3 (20:57):
Now they have Sandy on the back end and then
Ben Andfred one of the defentions in the enterial Hockey League.
So scream move for both sides. It helps Branford go
for it helps Oshawa look for the future.

Speaker 4 (21:08):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (21:09):
Uh, I felt like we've said this at least twice
a year for the last four years. But the Niager
Ice Dogs in London Nights hooked up for a trade,
going to the London Nights for uh for Noah reed
coming back the other way one for one.

Speaker 4 (21:27):
Maybe they only have the London area code phone number.

Speaker 2 (21:30):
Yeah, how do I phrase this without chirping too hard
or making the Ice Dogs sound stupid?

Speaker 4 (21:42):
Why?

Speaker 2 (21:44):
I know there's behind the scenes, like, yeah, there's their
trade request, whether it be by the player, whether it
be by the agents going to Boston.

Speaker 4 (21:54):
Yeah, yeah, like he committed early, he commitsarily, I mean the.

Speaker 2 (21:59):
Wall and you know what, I'm gonna defend the Ice
Dogs here for a second, because there are a lot
of fans on social media that are on the ice
dogs about this trade, And I'll be honest, behind closed doors,
I'm like, Niagara, what are you doing? How do you
not get more than that? But then when you look
back and see why they didn't get more than that,
London's not a team that really likes to give up

(22:19):
their young players unless they're in a championship year and
they can get a veteran to go all in. But also,
what picks did you want? If you're a Niagara fan,
what high end picks were you going to get from
the London Nights. Realistically, there is no draft pick that
comes back to Niagara that has an impact on your
team over two to three seasons from now, just based

(22:42):
off of what London has in the cupboard. And I
mean it's not like it's an empty but I don't
think it's I don't think it's where you want it
to be if you're trading away Brady Wasstlin. I don't know,
Brady Wasslin, to me get you should get you two
second round picks or is that just the they got
one they got in rental.

Speaker 4 (23:05):
Like and and all.

Speaker 2 (23:06):
And this is part of my question to you Colin,
it's one for one deal. Should Niagara have tried to
get picked?

Speaker 4 (23:12):
Sure?

Speaker 2 (23:13):
Did Brady going to going to school next year have
an impact on them not getting picks? I'm curious what
you think about that. Do you think that's the case
or is that London saying we will.

Speaker 3 (23:25):
Were hanging on to those Well, I want to know
how many teams they actually talked to in the play
in the trade negotiation. And I honestly, I truly believe,
I mean, the writings on the wall you were you
commit to college that young, It's on the wall, the
writing right like what the future is in Niagara for
WoT and it was right there for him.

Speaker 4 (23:44):
I truly believe that.

Speaker 3 (23:47):
You look at the deal and BC is a good
point about Lechenko for was for Wostlon last year was
the top twelve. And I actually remember that a lot
of people talking about that deal where it was interesting
at the time that deal. I think, when I look
at this trade, if Walston, if that's the only place
you want to go, and we saw this with Sam Dickinson,
but they got a lot for Dickinson.

Speaker 4 (24:07):
Yeah yeah, do you you know, like is that all
you want? Is that?

Speaker 3 (24:12):
Like I mean Noah Reid. He's a local kid. He's
an effective player for sure. He's an effective player for sure,
and I think he's gonna play a good wall for
the Ice Dogs. And to be honest with the Ice
Dog systems here, I think Noah Reid might fit the
system better. When you watch the ice Dogs play, it's
a dump and chase type of hockey. I don't think
that's winning hockey by any means. I don't think that wins.
I don't think that wins playoff rounds. But I think

(24:35):
that with the way their system is, Noah reads a
lot better fit.

Speaker 4 (24:39):
I mean, I've been critical, and.

Speaker 3 (24:43):
I've been critical, but I've questioned about Ryan Robrick there.
I mean the system's dump and chase hockey. He's a
skilled guy, he's a catching your release guy. He's a shooter.
That's not a fitting of it. That's not fitting a
shooter in that system. That's just my opinion on that.
That's what I that's what I believe. Uh So, come
at me if you disagree with that one. But that's
just my opinion on that. I don't think that the

(25:05):
system's right for him either. And Brady Wastlin's in that system.
I don't think he fits it. I think, no what
Read's gonna look really good in that system, I really do.
He's not gonna get the points that Wastlin's gonna get.
But I'm telling you right now, he's gonna have more
than half the block shots that Wastlin has this year
in that system. He's gonna have more penalty kill minutes
in that system more more so, the game that Niagara

(25:28):
values were nowhere. Reid fits that system more than Brady
Wastlin does. Call me crazy, but it's a fact. When
you look at the dump and chase hockey, when you
look at the way Niagara plays, Noah Reid fits the
system more than Brady Wastlin. On the flip side, Lon
in sold Player, Wastlin fits the Knight's Tea to a t.

(25:51):
I think if I'm Niagara, it would have been and
obviously maybe they did ask for this, maybe they did
ask for this. But if I'm Niagara, I'm trying to
bolster up my thirds. The Ice Dugs have no third
round picks for the next four years. London has three,
or it has four, actually, and one of them is
Niagara's own third and twenty twenty eight I'm at least
trying to get that pick back because the ice Dogs
right now only have three picks in the first three

(26:12):
rounds of the next four drafts, and that's only three
second round picks. They have none this year. So you
gotta try. Yeah, you gotta try, right, like and maybe
they did, maybe they did, but if to me, then
hang on to them until you get it. But if
he if you I know, I know that holds out
and goes back, well it sucks to suck, but then

(26:37):
then they get nothing. Then they have the uh, then
they have the Sudbury situation, and we know what we
thought about Subbury's deadline last year. That's just my point.
That's just like, you know, it's interesting, like yeah, very
it would be very intriguing.

Speaker 4 (26:50):
To see how the negotiation process went.

Speaker 3 (26:53):
Maybe it was, hey, but then we need to call
this guy up from our farm system.

Speaker 4 (26:56):
We're gonna call Niagara. Maybe that's what it was. Like
I don't I don't know, like no pun intended, but.

Speaker 2 (27:05):
Like no, no, but I don't know how you can't
find a way to get a pick, like you said, like.

Speaker 4 (27:12):
A third third round picks. I don't get it.

Speaker 2 (27:15):
Like again, I think Brady Wasslin could have been worth
two seconds. And now again, if if he leaves for school,
then there might be a different argument. If he stays
in London for another year, then I mean, you would
have liked to have gotten two seconds. But you know,
to me, to me, Wastlin moving away from Niagara guarantees
him another year in the OHL. That's just my personal opinion.

(27:37):
I think is in the OHL for every year Greece
is he uh, he's staying in London, right? Yeah, well,
I think so. I agree until the commitment.

Speaker 4 (27:48):
That's where. That's where.

Speaker 3 (27:49):
If I'm Niagara and general manager, that isn't in sphere
because Sudbury and Otawa tray.

Speaker 4 (27:53):
We know how that went last year, the trade deadline?
What are we doing?

Speaker 3 (27:56):
But I just think if I'm Niagara, well then I'm
asking for conditions. I'm asking for I'm asking for a
condition this year.

Speaker 4 (28:04):
Just the year.

Speaker 3 (28:05):
Let's say he plays forty games, he plays forty games
for the London Nights this year. Okay, I want a
conditional thirty he plays forty games. Boom, we get our
pick back in twenty twenty eight. Sorry for anyone on YouTube,
I'm reading your draft picks right now. But twenty twenty eight,
that Niagara third round pick. So let's got pick back.
Let's get our pick back because we have no thirds.

(28:26):
So Niagara gets their pick back. They have one third
round pick now. And then I'm saying, hey, you're getting
a potential first round pick in the National Hockey League.
You're getting a guy that we think that could score
forty fifty goals for you guys, I mean, Mark Hunter,
You're making this trade because you believe in Brady Wostlin. Automatic,
I mean, let's be honest here. So then BC, it's Reese, you.

Speaker 4 (28:48):
And I go for Walton.

Speaker 3 (28:50):
I can see him scoring forty goals at at eighteen
nineteen years old easily.

Speaker 2 (28:53):
Yeah, like and that like for me, that's where you
also throw a condition on a draft pick for games
he plays next year exactly. And that's what he's back
in what let's say half the games next year out
of sixty eight he plays thirty four, then Niagara gets

(29:14):
another third or that second round because if he plays
another half season in London next year. Yeah, that's a
trade that should result in a second round pick. With
the talent that Brady Wastlin's got, That's my thing.

Speaker 4 (29:29):
Behind it.

Speaker 2 (29:30):
It's not saying London's cupboard was empty and you made
a trade with a team that had zilch to give
the you.

Speaker 4 (29:35):
Gotta make it work.

Speaker 2 (29:36):
It's it's it's about adding You're right, adding those conditions.
If he comes back next year. If he doesn't, well,
then maybe a one for one doesn't look stupid. Whereas
you see him play another full year or two, or
you see a de commitment from Boston. Not having conditional
picks makes it worse. Oh yeah, that's worse. That's a

(29:58):
that's a fireball offense. If you're General Andrew that's a
fireball offense in the NHL. I mean you get torch
for that.

Speaker 3 (30:04):
Like I so Reese hypothetical trade here, let's draw one
up that all right? Like, so Brady Watson's going to
the London Nights, okay, dred percent, yep, I'm fine. Noah
Reid comes back to Niagara, Okay, that's great. We need
a player. He fits our system perfect.

Speaker 4 (30:26):
I like that.

Speaker 3 (30:27):
But ye, if he if he finished, if he plays
forty games this year and gets seventy points, I want
a conditional third round pick for this year's draft.

Speaker 4 (30:38):
Boom. And then if he comes back next year.

Speaker 3 (30:41):
I want to con I want a third and a
fourth round pick if he comes back next year. So
that's three picks, two thirds which London has, and yeah,
one fourth, all conditional, all conditional for this year's performance,
and if he comes back next year, at least at
least we get two picks.

Speaker 4 (30:57):
Yeah, I'm gonna say next year. It's not year. It's
not even based on points.

Speaker 2 (31:01):
It's about how many games he plays, because he's gonna
coming back to London and it comes back like I
don't know, maybe you make a stipulation if he plays
past January first, then Niagara gets that extra pick or whatever,
thirty four games, whatever the case might be.

Speaker 4 (31:17):
That's what I'm.

Speaker 2 (31:18):
Curious about, if that ever came up in the conversation
where yeah, sure, no problem. But if he if he
doesn't go to Boston next year or the year after that,
I want my conditions on some of the picks that
you currently own, so I can get those if you
benefit from another year of Brady Wasston.

Speaker 3 (31:37):
And that's why, and that's why I think you have
three conditional picks, one for this year, two for next year,
and no, reed, I think that's a fair deal.

Speaker 4 (31:44):
It's not. I don't think it's as fair as it
would be.

Speaker 3 (31:47):
I think that obviously, if you're gonna trade Rady Washston,
you gotta get high picks, you gotta get second to
in multiple thirds for where the deal is. And if
it's a trade request, if he doesn't want to be there,
I think that's a fair deal. Three conditional picks, one
for this year, two year and no. I read Yeah,
it seems like the lead standard if a guy wants out.

Speaker 4 (32:06):
Yeah, But I don't know.

Speaker 2 (32:07):
Maybe this is me just being like, you want to
help the player out as much as possible. But this
has happened in Niagara quite a few times over the
last number of years. And and I don't mean like
fifteen players have said I'm not playing here, trade me.

Speaker 4 (32:22):
That's not the case. That's not what I'm saying at all.

Speaker 2 (32:25):
But it's happening way more often than it should or
then it did with the Niagara Ice Dogs organization. Pre
I don't know twenty two or twenty three.

Speaker 4 (32:34):
I'll tell you.

Speaker 3 (32:35):
I'll tell you number one. You're like, why, let's hear it.
No leadership, where's Where's I mean automatically not having a
captain for a full season. Yeah, that that's a voice. Help, Yeah,
who's the voice. It's it's not a surprise to me
me personally, it's not a surprise that they had a
little fun date night in the movie theater last year
after Gavin Bryant gets moved that. I'm not surprised. Gavin

(32:58):
Bryan is a close friend of ours. No, we know
Gavin pretty well. I know for a fact that it's
not happening with Gavin Bryant. I think everybody knows that
in the in their own organization, they.

Speaker 4 (33:09):
Would know that.

Speaker 3 (33:10):
I mean, so it's not a serious title though. The
Captain and the ice Dogs I know about. I mean,
and again that's my opinion. It's not a serious title.
Being the Captain is just a thing to get on
the trade board. But that's just my opinion.

Speaker 2 (33:22):
Yeah, I mean, that's that's no disrespect to Kevin. He
he's one hell of a player. He's gonna be in
the American Hockey League lighting it up for the Manitoba
Moose next year. But but yeah, it does seem like
you wear the sea in Niagara, it doesn't mean as
much if you wear it in London or Kitchener or
Sue Saint Marie or wherever. So there was another trade.

(33:45):
There was another trade that that took place in all
Midwest Division trade for this one. The Erie otter is
an Owen Sound attack who actually played each other on
Sunday too, Yeah and eight three Owen Sound win, but
Erie sending Wesley Royston to Owen Sound Michael Deck going
the other way to the Erie oters Colin Ward. How
do you see this trade in Division two? That's that's yeah,

(34:08):
in division trades this past week. I think it's an
opportunity for both to play.

Speaker 3 (34:13):
I mean, Royston never really got his footing down this
year with the points twenty seven point or last twenty
seven points sixty three games. You look at the first
thirteen games with the Erie, he has three and thirteen,
but hey, he has one and two with Owen Sound.
And I think that with Royston, he's a big guy.
I honestly, you look at you watch him playing Aree
now you're gonna watch him Owen Sound.

Speaker 4 (34:32):
You look at six four one ninety a right handed.

Speaker 3 (34:34):
Shot that's appealing, that's appealing, and that's a Fourward too,
a right winger up and down the wing at that size.

Speaker 4 (34:41):
You know, I think that's a good opportunity, right, you
have opportunity for these guys. I think it's just it's
an opportunity for both teams and hockey trade.

Speaker 3 (34:50):
We don't usually see the trades we did with Schwa
and Branford, like these are the kind of trades we
expect to see at this time of the year.

Speaker 4 (34:57):
And Royston, but that's kind of it.

Speaker 3 (35:00):
That's kind of the move, and I mean I think
it's a good hockey and moved to get opportunity for
both sides.

Speaker 2 (35:05):
Yeah, yeah, so we'll we'll see how that works out.
Owen Sound can continuing their hot start, which was again
on display eight goals on Sunday against Eerie. Right, Royston
reminds me of the Nation race situation when you went
to Niagara.

Speaker 3 (35:18):
Opportunity Yeah, yeah, good, I mean it was what it was,
what it was right in Niagara.

Speaker 4 (35:25):
But it's kind of similar. Yeah now, yeah, Owen Sound.

Speaker 2 (35:32):
Absolutely uh gwelve Storm making headlines as well naming co
captains for the for the twenty twenty five twenty six season.
Piquette and Luchenko will wear the seas of course, one
at home, one on the road, which is hilarious because
you started to see trade rumors for both these guys
heading to Windsor and then they announced them as captains.

Speaker 4 (35:55):
Awkward, but so there's this.

Speaker 2 (36:00):
That's that's all I have to say on that one
or else again, I'll probably say something I'll regret, regret,
but uh CO captains, I've never been a huge fan
of just just my personal opinion. You put one C
on one guy and and that's it. That's your captain
for the season. Alternate alternate captains if you want to

(36:21):
value I don't like either. Thank you, Tom McClelland for
for the Red Wings. It's just Raymond insider this year.
But yeah, I mean the Sea.

Speaker 4 (36:30):
Adds another pick potentially. I mean a lot of people
aren't expecting.

Speaker 2 (36:36):
To be in the GWELF Storm organization after the So yeah, exactly,
and and and I loved what gent Luchenko said and
to the media. I believe it was on Sunday or
or immediately when he came back and don't remember what
day it was. Yeah, about the rumors, and just like, yeah,
just wants play. He's coming back to play. He likes
it in gwelf. You know, if he gets moved, it

(36:58):
is what it is. But but right now. He's really
focusing on playing hockey for the Gulf Storm and that's
all you can do at this point. Has there ever
been a player in the OHL that's been getting moved
longer than jet Lachenko has?

Speaker 4 (37:12):
This goes back to last year. This has been over
a year now, Trade Dot trade.

Speaker 2 (37:18):
Rumors he's giving McTavish a run. That went on for
a while.

Speaker 3 (37:22):
Bason rumors, Yeah, that did, but McTavish it felt like
it was just the year no.

Speaker 4 (37:29):
Got the start of the Y. Yeah, I guess yeah, yeah.

Speaker 3 (37:32):
And then Shane Wright too at Kingston BC gets a
good point. Yeah, but it feels like it's one of
those deals where it's talked about every month from last
year from November on, so almost a year now. It
feels like it's been one of those deals been talked
about and it's been close. I mean it's been close,
but yeah, it's just it's interesting.

Speaker 4 (37:54):
Yeah. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (37:55):
So also the CHL you US national team development program.

Speaker 4 (38:03):
I'm just gonna say, the USA, Yeah, no kidding, hey, like,
what the heck are we doing? It's too long of it.
It's cute and all, but yeah, come on, too many letters.
Just my personal but that was twenty three years ago. Well,
my dad's a grade three four teacher and the amount

(38:25):
of kids that can't read he write right now is outstanding.
But ten OHL players selected the phones out auto correct man.

Speaker 3 (38:34):
Yeah yeah, it's a lot of correct You gotta be
careful with yeah.

Speaker 4 (38:40):
Oh yeah, just dangerous. Don't put anything on WhatsApp, but u.

Speaker 3 (38:47):
Ten players from the Ontario Hockey League have been named
to the hl USA Prospects Challenge that will take place
out West up Front.

Speaker 2 (38:57):
It's Ethan belchat So the Windsor Spitfires, Alessandro Diorio of
the Sarnia Sting. Beckham Edwards of the Sarnia Sting Sting
Fans is gonna be really interested in this game, and
I'm excited for them. Uh Nikita Klapov from the Saganaw
Spirit who scored his thirteenth goal of the year on
Sunday against Brantford. Speaking of the Bulldogs, Caleb Manjultra will
be there, Adam Navatni from the Peterborough Pets, Brooks Rogowski

(39:19):
from the Oshawa Generals, and Ryan Robrick from the Niagara
Ice Dogs. On defense, Chase Reid from the Sude Greyhounds
and goaltender Zach Jovanovski from the gel To come to
Ontario Native gonna be one of two goaltenders that are
that are competing in that game. Good for him, eh
or those games, I should say, that's cool.

Speaker 4 (39:42):
Yeah, yeah, I like me. It's hard to be the goalie.
It's hard. You know, you only take two goalies. It's tough.
It's hard to be.

Speaker 2 (39:49):
It's nice that there's two games, so you know you're
getting a full game, whereas previous it was, oh, I'm
playing fifteen minutes or fifteen minutes, twenty five minutes or
thirty minutes whatever. What thirty thirty is half of sixty?

Speaker 4 (40:03):
Wow? Whatever the commercial break was used to switch. Holy crap,
that's all good. So that that's a guarante numbers, teamwork.
Oh my god, So you're guaranteed a full sixty minutes, right.
I think that's the.

Speaker 2 (40:16):
Big thing for for goaltenders of this. You get two
games and and one full game. Uh to be a
part of it, and I guess look cool as a
backup for a full game. I don't know that you
have no Yeah, that has no interest from the scouts.
How you look backing up? But I mean the fans
will think it's cool. Some guys have good styes.

Speaker 3 (40:39):
So me personally, if I was backing up, I'd be
I'd be tracking every single shot like crazy, trying to
look get in front of the scouts.

Speaker 4 (40:48):
I try to do everything.

Speaker 3 (40:49):
I'd be like a coach, change about, change up Bundy,
change them up, run on the bench.

Speaker 4 (40:57):
Well had a boy.

Speaker 3 (40:58):
Number thirteen's out there, he's your best four, let's go
change him up.

Speaker 4 (41:01):
I get the match up. I'd be as a as
a backup. I missed that like crazy. Oh jeez. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (41:10):
So so to get to a couple of players that
are still in the NHL that might come back to
the oh uh, I would say more guys than not
are probably in the NHL, including Sam Dickinson, who just
played his tenth game on Sunday, uh in a loss
to the Detroit Red Wings. So you mentioned it, Colin,
he got uh, he got the meeting. He got the meeting,

(41:30):
And and we know that in spring training before opening
day walking to the coach's office and and you get
the chat, and then you go call your parents saying, hey,
I'm making my major league debut on opening Day. And
and for Sam Dickinson to sentce you be told find
accommodations permanently. That that's pretty cool. So congratulations to him.

(41:52):
And you know what, he scored his first goal in
the end in the National Hockey League in that tenth game,
which is which is pretty swee.

Speaker 4 (42:00):
He looks really good in that game too.

Speaker 3 (42:02):
It's nice playing the Red Wings after the Bulldogs game.
It was nice to be able to watch that game
and to see Dickinson playing overtime too and regularly three
on three. It felt like in BC, you can chime
in if you can, I feel because I know you're
a Sharks guy, but and that probably halts the burden
of cheering for the Buffalo Sabers because you're probably already
onto the Sharks at that time of the year it's November.

(42:23):
But anyway, I feel like Dickinson. I don't know how
many minutes he's played on the regular, but I feel
like especially the game on Sunday night against Detroit, and
he was a regular in overtime. I mean, he was
out there twice and logged a lot of minutes. It
was cool to see, it looked like and it was
funny could and uh Ken Daniels calling the game for

(42:43):
the Red Wings and Chris Osgin billeting it with USA
Hockey one of the plot brothers too, which is kind
of cool at their place in uh in Michigan.

Speaker 4 (42:54):
But it's cool.

Speaker 3 (42:55):
Like talking about that, you could tell how Dickinson's strengths
in the Atario Hockey ygue, how good he was in
the O but his minutes in San Jose, he looked
really good in that overtime. He might have been the
Shark's best defenseman in that overtime, and I like, I
thought that he I thought he was really good, like
he was sharp. You get a transition to pockets we
expect out there with Celebraini and Smith too to start overtime.

(43:17):
That was pretty cool to see him out there against
big guys. Oh, Brandon just sent his last five games seventeen,
twenty eleven, twenty six, twelve oh four, fourteen twenty three,
and sixteen something.

Speaker 4 (43:28):
As the message clears off, But sixteen twenty three, that's
pretty yeah, what was it? Sorry? Sixteen twenty three was
that total in the in the last game, So, I
mean his.

Speaker 3 (43:39):
Minutes went down. They're starting again, but he earned those
minutes since and it looks.

Speaker 4 (43:43):
Like the Sharks are given it old school, which is.

Speaker 3 (43:45):
Kind of cool, where you got to earn those minutes, right, Like, yeah,
we're gonna put you in situation, but you got to
earn those minutes. We're not gonna give you fifteen sixteen
minutes a night unless you unless we don't feel like
it's necessary in this given night right now and yesterday
it was definitely necessary.

Speaker 4 (44:00):
Scores a goal, he gets rewarded, plays in overtime. Sam
Dickinson is gonna.

Speaker 3 (44:04):
Be a star there. It's nice San Jose has all
these good young forwards. It's nice to have that star
d right on the back end.

Speaker 4 (44:10):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (44:11):
Being red wing fans, we saw that with more excited
how much that change when Cider came up.

Speaker 2 (44:15):
So that's cool to see uh in San Jose. Yeah,
and I mean we're we're gonna continue with the San
Jose Sharks and Michael Misa, who has yet to play
nine games, let alone ten.

Speaker 4 (44:26):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (44:26):
He's currently at seven games, played one goal to assists,
as you can see on your screen. If you're watching
on YouTube and and being in Saganaw on Sunday for
that Bulldogs and Spirit game and chatting with Dylan Clark,
the voice of the Spirit, you know it's coming up
on a pretty big week for the Sagan of Spirit organization,
right because they're gonna find out sooner rather than later

(44:48):
if they're getting Michael Misa back for year number four
in the Ontario Hockey League, or if he's gonna be
a full time San Jose Shark uh for the rest
of the season, if they're going to begin his his
ELC So, Colin, what's your opinion on this? Do you
do you think Lisa should be a Shark? Do you
think he should come back to saganaw what do you think?

Speaker 4 (45:05):
Well?

Speaker 3 (45:06):
First off, BC, is his minute still low or high?
I know you're a Shark's guy, keep relying on you
from the clouds. Is his minutes still Are they still low?
Because if they're still low, I'm sending them back uh
seven games, three points. It shows how good of a
skill said he is, right, give me that good in
the limited minutes is pretty impressive. Unless they are gonna
use him in a big role. If they're gonna use

(45:29):
him in a bigger a little bit of a bigger role,
I think I truly believe, I truly believe he's coming back,
and I know he's a healthy scratch against Detroit. But
and that's too bad because I was really excited to
see him play.

Speaker 2 (45:43):
Yeah, so I'll ask you this, Colin, what what do
you consider low for Lisa's minutes? And and Brandon just
sent it in ten, eleven, ten, ten and eleven oh two?
Do you consider ten minutes.

Speaker 4 (45:54):
Or below too low?

Speaker 2 (45:56):
Is twelve minutes too low? Where's your bar on that
kind of the situational stuff too?

Speaker 4 (46:01):
Right? Is he playing on the fourth line? Who's he
playing with?

Speaker 3 (46:03):
If he's playing with skilled guys, I love it. If
he's playing with no unskilled guys. And if he's playing
on the pro typical fourth line in fourth line minutes,
I'm not a fan of that.

Speaker 4 (46:12):
So that's not his game. He's never gonna be that guy.
So you're.

Speaker 2 (46:17):
You're essentially wondering, is he playing with guys that are
part of the San Jose Sharks future or is he
playing with guys with placeholders until they're ready to start
competing again?

Speaker 4 (46:25):
Oh, we saw, we saw in Detroit.

Speaker 3 (46:28):
So he's not playing with top six I I'm sending
them back. What's the point? He's not gonna be a
guy it's on the penalty kill. He's not gonna He's
not gonna be that guy. He's not gonna be the
guy that's gonna go out and lay so many hits
a year. That's not gonna be part of his bonus
come contract time, and you look at his bonuses in
his contract. It's not gonna because of that. It's gonna
because he has the puck. He's creating offense, he's getting

(46:51):
scoring opportunity, he's getting shots on goal. That's gonna be
his that's gonna be his bread and butter in the NHL.
You're drafted second overall. Oh you're not. You're not gonna
be that. Beckett Seneca got sent back in Beckett Seneca.
We saw the leap he had last season with the
with Dana Hin and Oshawa.

Speaker 4 (47:08):
We saw that. We saw that.

Speaker 3 (47:10):
I think if I'm in Saganaw is a great system,
it's a good spot for him. We've it's a proven
track record for him for the last few seasons, for
the last three seasons he's been in Saganaw.

Speaker 4 (47:21):
I'm sending them back. I'm sending back he's gonna be
the guy.

Speaker 3 (47:24):
He's gonna obviously know, like man, if he goes back
to sagan I mean, look up, real quick, look up
real quick, where they are, where they are in the
power play, and where they're gonna be If Mysa comes back, right,
is gonna go through the roof. I think that that.
I think for sure, Michael Mysa comes back. If I'm

(47:44):
the San Jose Sharks, he's not playing on the power play.
You have contracts in the way I'm sending them back.
I'm I'm taking a note what Anahein did with Beckett
Seneca and I'm sending him back. I I think that's
the way it's gotta be.

Speaker 2 (47:58):
Yeah, I I agree. So well, we'll see. We're coming
up to that time. Seven games. He's got two left
before he starts his ELC, So we'll see what happens
with Mike Michael Misa. But we've gotta we've got to
hit a break coming up. So so let's let's highlight
the OHL Players of the Month for October before we

(48:20):
get to UH players of the Week around the Ontario
Hockey League. The OHL player of the Month Jake O'Brien,
I mean, this guy continues to just be awesome. Eighth
overall pick in the twenty twenty five NHL Entry Draft
just has been lighting it up for the Bulldogs and
he's leading the league in points right now. So so
Jake O'Brien Player of the Month, Goalie of the Month.

(48:41):
And it was a tough start to November for Joey
Costanzo getting chased in Saganaw giving up five goals against
the Spirits, so yeah, in the fight, Yeah there's that too,
But he was the goaltender of the Month for for October.
Defenseman of the Month Carson Wood all of the winds
as spit Fires in the top of the Western Conference.

(49:01):
Not a surprise to see two guys from the Spitfires
as part of that. And then Rookie of the Month
and Ke had a Klepov which thirteen goal Well, he
scored his thirteenth goal on Sunday against Brantford, but twelve
goals in that month of October. A guy that's just
burst onto the scene and he looks really, really good
for the Saganaw Spirit that we've we're gonna chat about

(49:24):
them in segment number two as part of our establishment
and who is, who isn't, who's kind of mid right now.

Speaker 4 (49:31):
He's going to be a part of that conversation, So
we'll touch.

Speaker 2 (49:33):
On him a little bit more moving on, but he
had a really good month of October for the saganaw Spirit.
Now to the players of the Week in the Ontario
Hockey League from the Owen Sound Attack Harry Nancy. Three games,
he scored once. He had eight assists for a total
of nine points and was also a plus four. Yeah,

(49:54):
that's pretty good Bardia week. You imagine that's yeah, I
wish I was that talented. Uh yeah, no kidding, Holy crap. Absolutely,
we'd be uh man, we'd be playing pro hockey in
Sweden for sure. We would fourth line grinders or actually,

(50:15):
no colin, what would be a net And then I'd
be that stupid defenseman that would screen them all the time.

Speaker 4 (50:20):
You'd be getting hit. I used to hit. Oh yeah, yeah, absolutely.

Speaker 3 (50:26):
Modeled my game after Ron Hackstall, but no, I usued
to be aggressive.

Speaker 4 (50:34):
You know what it was?

Speaker 3 (50:35):
I get the worst phase for me and goaltending as
we get to Goalie of the Week, fitting the worst
phase you in goaltending is when Peter Murrazak had that
hack of a World junior in Ottawa. I think it
was in Edington, Well it was in Canada. And remember
when remember when the celebration and stuff with chack like
it was just wild.

Speaker 4 (50:54):
And I remember, well, no you played. They made him the.

Speaker 3 (50:57):
Logo of the World Juniors in check Yeah, yeah, and
I uh, that was inspiring for me. I remember Peter
mra Asak going out to practice the following days, you know,
trying to snap the puck around be a defenseman. Oh yeah,
even though it's one of my biggest pet peeves. But
I actually used my stick a lot, a lot of
contact poke check. No one was deaking me. If you're

(51:18):
gonna try to deacon, I'm gonna I'm gonna make you
look bad and just poke.

Speaker 4 (51:20):
Check it off your stick. It's the easiest move in
a hockey as a goalie. Yeah, that'd be love that.
I love you loved it.

Speaker 2 (51:29):
Did you ever go Dominic Kashick two pad stack? No,
because then I'm at a position fair enough. If I
have the two pad stack, that means I'm caught in
him at a position. Then I got ah crap, I
gotta get back in position. So then it's a desperation. Honestly,
I think that's why Dominic Kshick.

Speaker 3 (51:45):
But I mean he was just one of the best
places of all time too, so he could do that.

Speaker 4 (51:48):
That's true. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (51:50):
Alexei Medvedev Ohl Goalie of the Week. In two games,
he was two and h with a goals against average
of one same percentage of nine to seventy, and he
made sixty five six in those two victories. Ohl Rookie
of the Week. We're sticking in the blue paint, writer
Federal of the of the Ottawa sixty seven's Colin Ward,

(52:11):
big fan of this man.

Speaker 4 (52:13):
I'm surprised that this first one.

Speaker 2 (52:15):
Yeah, yeah, no kidding, nine point nine to six goals
against average, nine to sixty, save percentage forty eight saves
over those two contests, including a shutout for the sixty sevens,
who look to get back on a roll after having
a tough couple.

Speaker 4 (52:29):
Of weeks or so.

Speaker 2 (52:31):
And then the Gohl Prospect of the Week from the
list of all Cyclones. He's an Eriados prospect lyndon Cabril.
Two games, two goals, four assists and six total points
for the Cyclones, and that will bring us to our
first break or only break.

Speaker 4 (52:50):
I should say, I don't know why I said first.

Speaker 2 (52:52):
That was weird, but but on the other side, we've
got a still got a ton to go over. Who's established,
who's not power are rankings included in there as well,
and it's going to be a fun second segment. Hope
you'll stick around here on the Ohl and sixty podcast.

up in the clouds and thanks so much to everybody

well as listening wherever you get your favorite podcasts. To
start off the second segment, just some details have been

(55:36):
announced about the Connor McDavid Ohl Top Prospects game that
will be taking place in Peterborough, Ontario at the Peterborough
Memorial Center. The game taking place Wednesday, January fourteenth, twenty
twenty six. Tickets are going on sale Wednesday, November twelfth,
so that is two wednesdays from now, not tomorrow, but

(56:00):
next Wednesday. They'll be at ten am, with the pre
sale beginning this Wednesday, November fifth.

Speaker 4 (56:05):
At ten am.

Speaker 2 (56:06):
So okay, I guess it kind of starts this Wednesday,
but that's the pre sale, so a link to purchase
tickets will become active at ten am on November twelfth.
Of course, you can grab the pre sale tickets through
Ticketmaster on November fifth at ten am. So that should
be a good follow up. And again, it was such
a great event in Brantford last year, It's gonna be

(56:28):
just as awesome in Peterborough this year. If you want
to read the full article on that announcement, can look
at the OHL's Twitter page. They've they've tweeted out the link,
but it's also on the Peterborough Pete's website as well
as they are the ones hosting the game. And now Colin,
this might be one of our favorite segments of the year,
always talking about you know, once we get into the

(56:48):
beginning to mid November, depends on the show. But but
what teams have gotten established in the Ontario Hockey League?

Speaker 4 (56:57):
Not many?

Speaker 2 (57:00):
Maybe maybe last year? I yeah, one, maybe two. You're
you're absolutely right calling and and to be honest with you,
I don't think it's a heavy total in the field
of going for it this year in the Ontario Hockey League.
You're maybe gonna see five at the most really go

(57:21):
for an OHL championship this season, and one of them
being Branford Bulldogs. Two clear cuts. Yeah, for sure, winsor Branford.
Absolutely A lot of questions with that one, sound right?
What they're gonna do?

Speaker 4 (57:33):
Yeah, Kitchener gets a Meta Cup built for this year
and next year? Yep.

Speaker 2 (57:38):
Absolutely, So let's start on the Branford Bulldogs Colling. I
mean we get to watch them on a daily basis.
Thirteen to two and one to start the season. This
is the best start in franchise history. For the Bulldogs organization,
They've got twenty nine points in sixteen games. They've scored
eighty eight goals, they've only allowed thirty nine. Their power

(57:58):
play is operating over forty percent and their penalty kill
at eighty three point three percent. And on on Sunday, yes,
they were going up against the seventeenth ranked penalty kill
in the saganaw Spirit. And yes, Jilkin gifted the Bulldogs
a five minute power play because he was called for

(58:20):
checking to the head on Merrick van Aker. He got
five in a game for that, and the Bulldogs scored
twice on that power play, and in total they were
four for five and that was the difference because they
won by four goals. So so for the Bulldogs six
number one, yeah, yeah, no kidding, and scoring thirteen goals
in those two games in Michigan. But right now, clear

(58:42):
cut the one for sure team that is established in
the OHL. Yes, you can make the argument for the
winsor spitfires, don't get me wrong, but but the Branford
Bulldogs right now are in a league of their own
and I don't think it's close, Like I think this
is London of last year, right now this is the
exact same situation that London was in last year at

(59:03):
this point entering November.

Speaker 4 (59:06):
Oh lot of Oh for sure, they look good right now.

Speaker 3 (59:08):
I mean it's only sixteen games in a lock happened
in the season so far in the third in the
sixteen games, nine times they've scored six goals in a game,
which is a good recipe for success on it. And
it's surprising their power play at forty four at forty
point four percent, it's kind of a surprise because I
always thought that I watched the power play day in
and day out. I'm thinking they need a goal score,

(59:28):
they need to shoot, or maybe because NECKLRDI is in there.
But yeah, yeah, it's almost like they passed to so
many goals right like, but no, they look good to start,
But a lot can happen in the season, right They
got to create depth. Yet there's a lot of ads
still there. They got to get guys back in the lineup.
Nick Rossetto should be returning soon into the lineup.

Speaker 4 (59:45):
For the Bulldogs. I mean, but a lot they still need,
a lot that needs to be involved. Something.

Speaker 3 (59:50):
You hope if you're a Bulldogs fan, they don't peak
too early, right, like something we saw last year. Right,
Teams that go all out in the offseason get bounce
in the first round. So it'd be interesting to see
what happens. But you got to continue to build. You
got to continue to you can't get complacent. And that's
the one thing I'm interested in seeing right now, because
championships aren't wanting November.

Speaker 4 (01:00:08):
They're one in May June. Ye, It'll be exciting to
see how this season Hall holds out for them.

Speaker 2 (01:00:14):
Absolutely absolutely. Do you consider Winsor established.

Speaker 3 (01:00:22):
I think that they so mentioned Branford. I think Winsor
needs a couple of pieces. Yet I like their forwards,
I really do. I like I like them up front.
I like their defense. I think that.

Speaker 4 (01:00:35):
Close they are close there.

Speaker 3 (01:00:38):
They are by far the second team that's close to
establish Owen sound. They play hard, you know, they battle hard.
Their numbers are legit Owen Sound.

Speaker 2 (01:00:48):
You could arguetending in the Western Conference exactly, the best
goaltening in the West.

Speaker 4 (01:00:53):
Like.

Speaker 3 (01:00:55):
I like them, but they're they're I don't they're there.
I think there's a lot of games yet, I mean
they're eighteen games in. We said the first twenty games, right,
they kind of know what they are as a team,
but I still think there's any given night Owen Sound
that's junior hockey. Any given night, they're gonna be different team.
It's like Kitchener, right, Kitchener now all of a sudden
it's on a roll. Kitchener's on a roll. But two
weeks ago, with what we have said about the Kitchener ranger, right,

(01:01:17):
so teams are closing in on that. I think another
five games Kitcheners. The Sue Saint Marie's Brady Martin, by
the way, a highlight reel goal against Oshawa this weekend.
That was incredible, Sue Saint Marie getting Martin back, naming
their leadership group. That's a team that's very close Winsord
in my opinion, is the most established team in the
Western Conference. Answer your question, but ohen Sound, Kitchener's us

(01:01:37):
Saint Marie Maybe in a couple of weeks. Kitchener I
think the closest out of that three. But in a
few weeks here each week we're gonna see it more
and more teams get established in where identity is. And
also to be interesting with the London Nights are right,
the London Knights in the West you can never count
them out. Getting Brady Wasson making the trade that they made,
you can tell that where their thought process is there

(01:01:59):
Alwaight group which are very strong for next season, which
is dangerous because it figures the mem Cup is going
to Gwelfer Kitchener and London's gonna be a wagon. It
makes sense, right, So that's that'll be fun to see
those three teams hopefully battle it out next years. I
know that's a long ways away, but the way things
are looking, look out for that. And then in the East, Honestly,

(01:02:22):
I think right now and the eye test, I believe
the Barry Colts are going to win their division.

Speaker 2 (01:02:29):
I think Barry on paper it changes from a cellar
to a buyer. So I'll ask you this, what's all
in the Barry Colts. Are they the next Eastern Conference
team when we do this again at the beginning of
December that you expect to be Yep, they're They're with
the Bulldogs, They're an established group. Right now, they look
like they are on their way to win the Central.

Speaker 3 (01:02:50):
When December December, the first show of December, we will
be seeing the Barry Colts second in the Eastern Conference.
We'll be seeing that. That's how close I think Barry is.
You look at the effort, you look at their compete level,
you look at the way their front offices, you look
at they know they they're very they're very calculated. You
get Heming back, and that that presence changes everything. That

(01:03:11):
changes everything we talked about this last week. You get
Heming back all of a sudden, Well, instead of trading
a just In in trading Gardener in trading these pieces
we have, maybe we go for it right. It makes
it a lot easier. It makes a decision. It's like
what we said about the London Knights, right, Sam Dickinson
comes back, you have a decision to make. Yep, Barry

(01:03:31):
Colts get Heming in it, which is a big surprise.
I think it changes everything. I think Barry is in.
I think we that answer for where we think the
division leaders are gonna go in that division. I think
the Barry Colts like, you get those guys back, that's
that's strong. I mean you got guys, You got guys
playing their best hockey they played there in their careers.

(01:03:53):
BC this poste pointed out in their chat here on
the Zoom call eleven points in seventeen games. Youre acid
Orian like that's that's that's his best hockey could be
playing right now?

Speaker 4 (01:04:03):
Like that, you gotta stay at that level. You have
to stay at that level for sure.

Speaker 3 (01:04:07):
But the Barry Colts, I mean you look at the
the eye test, they're passing it. They play hard. You
have Elias and eight just in on the back end
log minutes. I think Barry is the next closest established team. Niagara,
I think still working out the kinks where they are Ottawa.
Ottawa had a bad week a couple of weeks ago.
Now they win their last three in a row, right
like yeah, what like that's.

Speaker 4 (01:04:28):
About a big win.

Speaker 3 (01:04:33):
Them beating London's huge, right, So now, but there's the
thing with Ottawa, right Ottawa, it's like that NFL team
where they get a big win like that and then
the next week they lose to like the Cleveland Browns,
Like that's kind of that's kind of what the Ottawa
sixty sevens are right now. The sixty sevens are really
they're honestly, they're playing like they're a really good team.

(01:04:55):
But you gotta you gotta win that that next week.
So import and if can Ottawa be that team that's
second in their division. Right, that's gonna be a race.
So can Ottawa take that jump? I mean, look at
Kingston last week we talked to you Kingston, they were
rating that mix. Now you lose four in a row,
you're in seventh in the East, right, Like the Eastern
Conference is no joke. It's it's it's you have a

(01:05:18):
bad weekend, You're going from second to seventh. You're not
going from second to third or fourth. You go on
too on a weekend, You're going to seventh. And that's
what the East. That's probably what the East is gonna
be this year.

Speaker 4 (01:05:30):
Were all reality. I don't know if that's gonna change much.

Speaker 3 (01:05:32):
Yeah, So I think Barry is the team that is
gonna be a team to watch for. I think they're
a treat. But it gonna be interesting what Ottawa and
Niagara do this weekend. It's they're very intriguing teams to
watch this weekend in the Eastern Conference. In the West,
Kitchener SiO oh and sound let's.

Speaker 2 (01:05:48):
See yeah, which gets us to our final topic of
the show. It's perfect timing for this the power rankings
immediately following us going over kind of what we're going
to see over the next month or so and who's established,
who's not, and when we have this conversation again in

(01:06:09):
a month's time, what that could look like. So the
ohl Power rankings really were interesting this week, and by
that I mean every team moved but one, and that
being the first place Brantford Bulldog. So we'll run through
the sixteen for you. Peterborough Peat's up one spot to

(01:06:29):
number sixteen. The Generals drop a spot to number fifteen.
Zaganaw Spirit up one to number fourteen after despite losing
to Branford, they did take down the Winsor Spitfires six
to three in an impressive win for them. North Bay
Battalion drop a spot to number thirteen. Gwelph drops the
spots and number twelve Flint drops the spot to number eleven.
Barry Colts jump three. They're at number ten. Kingston Front

(01:06:52):
n Acts down one to number nine, Ottawa up one
to number eight. Niger Ice Dogs drop three spots, they're
at number seven. London drops once to number six, Sue
Greyhounds up to to number five, Owen Sound up to
to number four. Winsor and Kitchener they swap spots. Windsor
is now three, Kitchener is now two, and as I mentioned,
the Branford Bulldogs, the number one team means it's time

(01:07:16):
for our power rankings following this week of action. Colin Ward,
who is team number five for you? I have a
tie for five, Sue Saint Marie. I know there's special
team teams and.

Speaker 3 (01:07:28):
Ties because it's I think it's a conference. I think
it's the two conferences. It's had top six. If we
had a six, it plays into it plays in right
for three and three that and it's hard to tell
right now at the beginning of the year, but for me,
it's tie Sue Saint Marie. Their power plays it terrible,
but I'm not gonna I'm not going to say it's

(01:07:49):
terrible when they just got Brady Martin back and Chase
Reied in the mix, like you know, they're I'm not
concerned about that at all.

Speaker 4 (01:07:56):
I mean the Branford Bulldogs last year for.

Speaker 3 (01:07:57):
Us covering the team last year was that like three
percent in November, So yeah, I'm not I'm not worried
about that at all right now with Sue Saint Mariy,
but Saint Mary Greyhounds tied for fifth with the Barry
Cults Barry winning four.

Speaker 4 (01:08:10):
In a row. You know, like that's big.

Speaker 3 (01:08:13):
Yeah, they they're they're this week they were the best team.
I mean they should put them higher. So to me,
Barry Colts tied for fifth with Sue Saint Mary. They've
won four in a row. Hemming back, They're undefeated in
the Heming era. Why not Barry Colts.

Speaker 2 (01:08:31):
Barry is six for me. They're close, don't get me wrong.
They'll they'll be in the top five sooner rather than later.
Number five for me. And they drop a spot this
week on my list. It's the London Knights dropping down
to number five on my power rankings. Power plays still clicking,
penalties kill is still good. They've got twenty one points

(01:08:51):
on the year. They're nine to three and three through
fifteen games. That's three games in hand on the Greyhounds,
the attack and the spit Fires. Not that the Knights
could catch the Spitfires with those game games in hand, however,
you could passed. You could pass the Owen sound attack
for that division lead early on here if you win

(01:09:12):
those three games in hand. So, London Nights, despite that
loss in Ottawa, I thought it was a really nice
bounce back effort in Kingston. Uh to to dominate the
front next six to one and uh and get wastly
in his first goal as a Night. So so they're
number five for me Colin Ward, who's number four. Four
for me the Owen Sound Attack. Owen sounds awfully close

(01:09:33):
to the.

Speaker 4 (01:09:33):
Top three too.

Speaker 3 (01:09:34):
They have a big week this week, winners of their
last three, undefeated week.

Speaker 4 (01:09:40):
Gottam, you gotta move up.

Speaker 3 (01:09:41):
I mean, I think they're staying the same for me
of last week, but they're very close. They're very close
into the to that precious top three, it feels like
right now.

Speaker 2 (01:09:51):
Yeah, uh yeah for me. Number four are the Kitchener
Rangers and uh again it's a it's an impressed have
run the Rangers are on right now.

Speaker 4 (01:10:01):
They've got points in their.

Speaker 2 (01:10:02):
Last six games, are up to fifty two goals four
on the season. They've only allowed thirty eight, which, based
off of my eyes looking at the standings, that is
the second least in the Western Conference, only to the
London Nights who have allowed thirty seven. So the Rangers,
they're at thirty eight goals against is pretty impressive. And

(01:10:22):
they're at number four for me. Colin Ward, who's Number three.
Three for me is the Winsor Spitfires. Winsor's gonna drop
one spot for me this week. Tough loss to Saganaw Obviously,
their penalty kills unbelievable, their power plays good, and like
I said, I don't ran into special teams a month
into the season. I don't think it means anything yet.
Teams aren't established into their system yet. Respect for that,

(01:10:45):
there's gonna be some wrinkles. But I'm gonna say Winsor
for the week that they had is the three spot
compared to who I have in the two spot. Right,
that's understandable. I can get that they're still at number two.
Number three is the Own Sound Attack for me. They're
just one win behind the Spitfires, so it's a lot

(01:11:06):
closer than that three point gap looks. But the Own
Sound Attack, Yeah, that's a that's a very big victory
on Sunday there against your division rival. I know it's
the Eerie Otters. I know they're in tenth place, but
it's just for whatever reason, you could be in first
playing the tenth place team. But it's an inner division matchup,
so it's a one goal game in overtime. It could

(01:11:27):
be that close, and I think for the own Sound
attack to score eight on the eerie otters, it is
is pretty huge and pretty impressive, right. You don't see
that in many divisional matchups, and to be honest with you,
until March. You might see it in March or February,
once the deadline's over and you've got all of your
new players into the system and everything, you could see it.

(01:11:47):
But I still look at that as an impressive win
despite it being the number two team versus the number
ten team. So Owen Sound. Yeah, they're number three, colin Ward,
number two for you, as I already kind of spoiled mind.

Speaker 3 (01:12:02):
Hey our town, what's up? Welcome to my rankings? Five
oho and one in their last six. The hottest team
right now in the conference Kitchen Rangers. I'm back, shout out,
Josh Brown. Kitchen Rangers two for me. Hottest team, hottest
team in the Western Conference.

Speaker 4 (01:12:21):
Right now over the last two weeks. Kitchen Rangers for me.

Speaker 3 (01:12:24):
And I mean with those games in hand too, right,
that gets very interesting to see if they can continue
to build off that.

Speaker 4 (01:12:29):
But to me, the Kitchen Rangers are my number two
in my power rankings.

Speaker 2 (01:12:35):
Yeah, I've still got the winsor Spitfires at number two,
and the reason being is I I, yeah, it was
a tough weekend, but and I get your reasoning behind it.
We are sort of going off of recency result or
recent results and how teams do each week to week.

Speaker 3 (01:12:53):
Honestly, at the start of the year, that was kind
of what we talked about anyway. Kitchener Windsor Yeah, yeah,
big time absolute.

Speaker 2 (01:13:00):
I just I still really like Windsor. There's a lot
to like about them. I think I think that was
a nice bounce back against Flint the next night, a
team that that has a has a ton of talent
and really wants to mix things up there in the
middle of the Western Conference this year. So so the
Spitfire is rebounding after that game against Sagana. They're they're

(01:13:20):
number two for me still, I still think they're the best,
second best team in the o HL, and that that's
also a big reason why I've got them at number two. Also,
so number one, yeah, I mean Brandon kind of beat
us to it. I don't think there's any debate who
the number one team in the OHL is. So Colin
Moore take it away, yep.

Speaker 3 (01:13:37):
Ranford bull Ducks continue, they continue to play better each week,
and you know, you kind of got to hope that.
But after the after the movie with Danford Sandu Friday
night or Saturday night's game, they I didn't think. I mean,
obviously Sanford and d or Sandwy Anford coming over.

Speaker 2 (01:13:57):
You look at the ad I did that on Sunday.
You combine Sandu and Danford and it turns into Sanford
and you're like.

Speaker 3 (01:14:05):
Oh, man, yeah, jeez, But but I just I think that,
I just think, yad, those guys. You look at game
one and Flint on the weekend, you tell they had
to get comfortable in the system. A lot of differences
between Oshawa and Branford system wise defense and oshawas his
own system defense. In Branford, you can see this man
demand system in their own end. A lot of differences

(01:14:25):
in the systems this year between the two teams. And
I think that's the Sunday game. You saw a little
bit more comfort. You saw Jamie Kee switch up the
line a little bit back there in the second half.

Speaker 4 (01:14:36):
Of the game.

Speaker 3 (01:14:36):
Level out the minutes. But they look good. I mean,
the ads, it just speaks for itself. So Branford number one.

Speaker 2 (01:14:43):
Yeah, Yeah, I'm pretty well gonna say the same as you,
So I'm not really going to go too far into it.
But the gold differential speaks for itself. I know you
don't like to get into power play early this early on, Colin,
but we looked a year ago. You look at year
ago for the Branford Bulldogs, it was what four percent

(01:15:04):
the power play? Yeah, and last year and obviously it's
a different group. They're still similar or similar. There are
still some of the guys that are on this team
from last year. But I think when you look at
a calendar year from two point six percent to forty
point four percent, uh, it is hard to ignore that.

(01:15:25):
And eighty three point three is is on the higher
end in the OHL, but but it's not the highest.
So they're just they're they're way better than everyone else
right now. They're like I said earlier, they're on their
own island. And the Bulldogs are going for OHL Championship
number three in Memorial Cup number one this year.

Speaker 4 (01:15:44):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:15:45):
The thing that makes them spread that, the thing that
makes them kind of stand out from the others is
they box out well in the di zone. They they
really do a good job blue line. I noticed Sagan
especially really respected the ford check or laid off the
four check Flint do where you can see the draft
delswell where last year, last couple of seasons, you look

(01:16:06):
at the Jamickee system and the one way you're gonna
beat it is you're gonna four check against him. Right,
you can beat it out a lot a couple of seasons.
Going the first round eliminated them by easily in my opinion,
because of the for checking ability and the Dave Cameron
system that's kind of out of the way right now.
If you do that, you're gonna get burnt with the
amount of talent on the back end, especially when you
have that top line banocked. The skating ability he has

(01:16:28):
the transiting game has been really impressive so far.

Speaker 4 (01:16:31):
Mm hmm. Yeah. So so we'll see. Uh.

Speaker 2 (01:16:35):
I mean, I'm pretty confident in saying that they're gonna
continue to add, so we'll we'll wait for those moves
to happen. But for now, they are the number one
team in the Ontario Hockey League. I expect the ego
rankings for the HL they'll be at number one again
as well, so stay tuned for that. But for everybody
who who tuned in, whether it be on YouTube, on

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
